Monthly Series Appreciation
What's this about?
I want to share some of my most precious reading experiences with you.
I'm a total sucker for a good series to binge or wait excitedly for the next chapter to drop. And I would love to see you all interact more with those stories, with those incredible writers who put so much of their heart into their work. And especially series often don't get the attention they deserve. And I want to change this.
So here are three stories that I love very much. Give them a try, re-read them, shout out to the author, reblog it!
Every tiny bit of interaction keeps the fandom alive and this is what we all want. Right?

Second Chances
Syverson x OFC Eve (💕🔥🌩, status: completed)
I read this early after I found my way to tumblr and I was drawn into this world so fast. @notabronte gave us this lovely small town feeling where we can see Sy fitting in so well. It's the good old enemies to lovers trope, perfectly executed. I had to re-read earlier chapters after I learned a few things about our protagonists in the later chapters and it made me realize how good exactly this whole story was put together. You're going to fall in love with this town, with this car, with this girl and of course with Sy.
The heir
Modern AU Charles Brandon x female reader (💕🔥🌩, status: completed)
This one is special to me, too. First of all, I am such a huge fan of modern AU Charles. I just love the idea of it. And @daydreaming-in-letters is a master in building atmosphere in her stories and The Heir is not an exception. With the first scene she dragged me into that misty morning where we're about to meet His Snobbiness. And it only gets better after that.
Adaptions
Walter Marshall x OFC Jo (💕🔥🌩, status: completed)
This is my favorite Walter ever. He's just perfect. As is @mayloma's writing. She gives us wonderful characters, not only our two lovebirds but also the side characters that we meet. And so many sweet memories, it's heartwarming. Both Jo and Walt have a past and a life and joining them on their journey how to adapt to each other was a great experience.

THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General.
Some things about living still weren't quite right, though. April for instance, still drove people crazy by not being springtime. And it was in that clammy month that the H-G men took George and Hazel Bergeron's fourteen-year-old son, Harrison, away.
It was tragic, all right, but George and Hazel couldn't think about it very hard. Hazel had a perfectly average intelligence, which meant she couldn't think about anything except in short bursts. And George, while his intelligence was way above normal, had a little mental handicap radio in his ear. He was required by law to wear it at all times. It was tuned to a government transmitter. Every twenty seconds or so, the transmitter would send out some sharp noise to keep people like George from taking unfair advantage of their brains.
George and Hazel were watching television. There were tears on Hazel's cheeks, but she'd forgotten for the moment what they were about.
On the television screen were ballerinas.
A buzzer sounded in George's head. His thoughts fled in panic, like bandits from a burglar alarm.

Goddamn this manga! It's beautiful.
It's able to talk about complex problems without trivialising them. I think it's incredible.
Everyone read Magus of the Library!

Just Finished "A Little Life" and my god that has got to be one of the best books I've read in a long time. It is such an emotional rollercoaster where you're curious if the future of the next chapter but hesitant it will have a gloomier plot than the last. The use of such detailed descriptions in Jude, Willem, Malcolm, JB, Harold and Andy's lives as well as their thoughts, actions, feelings, characteristics and appearances make them so real.
This book is definitely not for everyone as it contains explicit details of physical abuse, sexual abuse, mentions of suicide, selfharm, drug addiction, kidnapping and much more. While it is a difficult read, it has you on the edge of your seat for the choices certain characters will make. You catch yourself thinking in your head how obscene, how disgusting, how fascinating, how morbid, these scenes are. I think this is one of few books that has made me genuinely cry, gasp, smile and laugh over the process of reading for months.
There are so many times you'll be reeling in your head over a choice or thought a character has, shocked but intrigued at why they made that decision. It really dives into how trauma and any mental affliction can warp one's vision of themselves and the world. It makes you reconsider mundane things and what you say to those around you, reminding you that everyone is going through so much on their own, that one sentence can make or break someone.
Sometimes I wish I could go back and reread certain parts all over again like I had never read them before. Some I wonder if I didn't, if I could be able to put the book down at all. Even though the rollercoaster of emotions this book was one I will never forget and one I will love for a very long time.

to any americans who feel "paralyzed" and "dont know what to do" to help with gaza:
reading a fucking book. i beg of you.
in a time of knowledge suppression is it your duty to arm yourself with knowledge.
read about americas occupations in the middle east.
read about 9/11 from outside of america and see how they inflicted senseless harm and violence to countless amounts of people and have been suppressing your rights for the past 2 fucking decades.
read about any of the countless wars from the past 30 years. especially from a civilian's. and the victims and survivors' perspective. listen to the horror stories and do not plug your fucking ears as to what your country is doing.
and read about fucking gaza and palestine and keep up with what is happening no matter how "sad" or "uncountable" you might get.
dont look away from this.
you dont have the right to be comfortable during countless active genocides.
if you're knowledgeable, you're powerful, and our current state doesnt fucking want that.
you have the power to change things if you open your eyes and scream to the world.
wake the fuck up.
Edit: please check the reblogs there are readings and ways to help

lead balloon (the tumblr post that saved me)
if this comic resonated with you, it would mean the world to me if you donated to this palestinian family's escape fund.
--
no creative notes because this isn't that kind of comic.
I know I don’t owe any of you anything but I still felt compelled to write about my long term absence. And I feel far enough away from the dangerous spot I was in to be able to make this comic. I have a therapist now, and she agreed that making this could be a very cathartic gesture, and the start of properly leaving these thoughts behind me. I am still, at seemingly random times, blindsided by fleeting desires to kill myself. They’re always passing urges, but it’s disarming, and uncomfortable. I worry sometimes that my brain’s spent so long thinking only about suicide that it’s forgotten how to think about anything else. Like, now that I've opened that door for myself, I'll never be able to fully shut it again. But I’m trying my best to encourage my mind in other directions. We'll see how that goes.
I am still donating all proceeds from my store to Palestinian causes. So far, I've donated over $15K, not including donations coming from my own pocket or the fundraising streams which jointly raised around $10K. In the time since I made my initial post about where this money would be going, the focus has shifted from aid organisations to directly donating to escape funds.
If you'd like to do the same, you can look at Operation Olive Branch, which hosts hundreds of Palestinian escape funds or donate to Safebow, which has helped facilitate the safe crossing and securing of important medical procedures for over 150 at-risk palestinians since the beginning of the genocide.

Things in the new 91W chapter I read over and over and over again.
Dean once won Sammy a beat-up tin kaleidoscope at the county fair, a dumb thing the kid loved literally to pieces, and when Dean finally got a chance to peer through he understood the obsession: it was dizzying, beautiful, breathtaking, incomprehensible. That’s Lieutenant Novak for you. Shifting shapes and colours every time Dean tries to hold him up to the light. He doesn’t know what he is or what he wants. Whenever Dean starts to get the sense that he’s figuring him out, he twists again, becomes something else.

Flowers for Algernon & Why You Should Read It
Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, a novel that earned Hugo and Nebula Awards, is a novel you need to read.
Here's the summary from Sora, an e-book app.
"Charlie Gordon is about to embark upon an unprecedented journey. Born with an unusually low IQ, he has been chosen as the perfect subject for an experimental surgery that researchers hope will increase his intelligence-a procedure that has already been highly successful when tested on a lab mouse named Algernon.
"As the treatment takes effect, Charlie's intelligence expands until it surpasses that of the doctors who engineered his metamorphosis. The experiment appears to be a scientific breakthrough of paramount importance, until Algernon suddenly deteriorates. Will the same happen to Charlie?
SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT
Charlie, 33, is mentally retarded, traumatized from abuse that he doesn't remember, and was abandoned with the owner of the bakery he works at, at the age of 12.
Before the surgery, Charlie is made to race Algernon in all different kinds of simple tests like paper mazes.
After the surgery, Charlie's IQ begins to grow and it grows faster as time goes on.
The unfortunate part of his awareness? He realizes that no one was actually being nice to him except for the lady at the adult teaching center that teaches his class.
When his IQ surpasses the doctors', he goes into what I could only describe as a state of self-inflicted psychosis. He becomes angry when he can't absorb information anymore and enters some kind of manic and depressive episode where he "steals" Algernon after finding out what happens to him when the experiment is over.
Remember the teacher? That's Charlie's girlfriend now and she thought it would be a good idea to get Algernon and girlfriend too, so he's not alone with his intelligent rodent thoughts.
Algernon has his own manic episode, bites the female, and begins to fall drastically ill until he succumbs to death.
Charlie worries that the same will happen to him and luckily it doesn't, but he still experiences regression back to his original IQ.
I don't think the surgery necessarily changed Charlie's IQ, but I do think it changed his ability to understand things and his situational awareness.
What do you think the surgery did to Charlie?
