Percabeth for valentines day because they own my heart !! 🔱🦉🏛️🫶
So the new PJO show has reignited my middle school obsession with the riordanverse (my tlt-pj-musical brainrot has also made a swift comeback 🫡) and I’ve been hyperfixating on it for the last couple months (WOOHOOO SEASON 2 WAS GREENLIT 🎉🎉🎉). I’ll ramble more about how much this show means to me and just how amazing it is to see these beloved characters come to life on screen in a future post, so expect more pj fanart soon. Also what even is valentines day, I only know of Percabeth day 🙈🙈
When I saw @/jonesy.cosplays and @/tinydancercosplay ‘s percabeth post (on ig), I just had to draw one of their pics! I love yalls cosplay sm!!!!
Anywho, I started this drawing in December, but I’ve been so busy with school (💀), so I apologize about the overall unfinished look to this piece 🫠🫠

Saves and shares are super appreciated 🤓🙏

They say the average demigod at camp half-blood curses the gods 13 times a year. It is actually closer to once per year. Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Nico DiAngelo all curse the gods 200 times a year individually, and should not be counted as they are statistical outliers

everyone talks about "oh what if Percy could bloodbend" but I think there is woeful little discussion about other potentially fucked up big 3 kid powers:
I mean it's already canonical Hades/Pluto kids can just. straight up kill you. Like literally Nico can just tap people on the shoulder and they get Thanos Snapped. Totally fucking dusted. Sometimes bones are left and he just starts controlling that but that seems to be optional. He does it like three times in Tower of Nero.
Not to mention Nico also being able to just rip people's souls out of their still living bodies. Is that a Ghost King thing or a Hades kid thing or a combo from both? Who knows.
All the different ways Big 3 kids can make somebody just. Explode. Zeus* kids can just build up air pressure, Poseidon kids can build up water/blood pressure, and Hades kids can just make your bones splinter and shoot out.
I don't think Zeus kids would be able to mind-control people by controlling electrical impulses BUT they could just send several thousand volts directly through you via touch so like. That's not great.
Bloodbending for Poseidon kids is obvious but Hades kids have SO many options to potentially control people. Puppet their bones? Control their actual literal soul? If you go the route of "shadows are connected to the person" then dragging somebody around by their shadow? Or given that Hades kids are heavily implied to just have nearly all abilities ghosts are said to, there's a decent chance they could Just Straight Up Possess You.
Poseidon kids can control blood (and actually exemplified in canon - seemingly just about any bodily fluid, as Percy makes Achlys start choking on her own tears/snot). They could also theoretically completely dehydrate you in an instant.
Zeus* kids meanwhile can. Make air bubbles in your blood or etc. Which is VERY bad for those of you who are unaware. Hades kids can probably just yoink all the metals out of your blood. Casually revokes your iron privileges. Poseidon kids are just yoinking your blood In General. Etc etc.
And then yknow, the casual natural disasters stuff. Zeus kids making tornados and hurricanes? Plus the aforementioned just throwing massive amounts of electricity around. Probably also able to make dust storms and stuff. Poseidon kids making hurricanes and floods and earthquakes? Or being able to create geysers just wherever they want? Hades kids also being able to make earthquakes or just shatter the ground or create giant ravines and etc. And, yknow, ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. And aforementioned insta-killing I guess. Bonus Hera kids probably being able to also do tornados and dust storms and etc, possibly moreso than Zeus kids.
*Zeus with an asterisk because wind/air powers actually seem to be more of an Hera/Juno thing and so exclusive to Jason and not Thalia, while Zeus/Jupiter seems to be just the storms/electricity.

The PJO boys
I tried a palette and aesthetic farrr out of my usual comfort zone. Anywayyy here are the pjo boys in cyberpunk x ancient(?) theme. I was just pulling random lines out of my frontal lobes without giving much thoughts about the colors and the clash of styles. The process gave me joy 🥺💕
PS. I gave Frank a new haircut because his original version would resemble Jason’s hair and I wanted vArIeTy of styles in this one as an exercise.
PS2. Right as I was finishing this piece, the nurse called me over. Someone's going to give birth. It's 1 AM. Wish me peace and healthy babies for the rest of the shift 🙏🏼
I also post my art on instagram and YouTube, avocadrawz

i just noticed how similar jason and annabeth look so whenever they’re out in public, people constantly mistake them for siblings and they’re both just like “yeah, okay, sure.” but one day they decide to get matching cancer constellation tattoos and the artist is gushing over how nice it is to see siblings getting along and they just accept it

Me: Yeah yeah, which demigods can see the shrimp colors?
Chiron: Excuse me?
Me: You heard me. Who’s got the shrimp colors?
Chiron: Well, ah…Iris is the goddess of the rainbow, and Poseidon is god of the sea, but I don’t think—
Me: Give me the shrimp colors, horse man.

reminder that the only reason the "ADHD is actually demigod BATTLE STRATEGIES" and "dyslexia is DEMIGOD BRAINS HARDWIRED FOR ANCIENT GREEK" things exist in the PJO universe is because it's a very direct reference to early 2000s teaching/parenting techniques for neurodiverse and disabled children, which aimed to frame childrens' disabilities and hardships as a "superpower" or strength so that the children would feel more positively about their disabilities or situations. This technique has fallen out of favor since then for the most part since more often than not it just results in kids feeling as though their struggles are not being seen or taken seriously.
Yes, demigods are adhd/dyslexic (and sometimes autistic-coded) in the series. This is extremely important and trying to remove it or not acknowledge it makes the entire series fall apart because it is such a core concept. Yes, canon claims that their adhd/dyslexia is tied to some innate abilities, which is based on an outdated methodology. It's important to acknowledge that and understand where it comes from! But please stop trying to apply it to other pantheons in the series like "oh, the romans have dyscalculia because of roman numerals!" or "the norse demigods have dysgraphia for reasons!" - it's distasteful at best.
A better option is to acknowledge the meta inspiration for why that exists in the series, such as explaining potentially that Chiron was utilizing that same teaching methodology to try and help demigods feel more comfortable with their disabilities and they aren't literal powers. In fact, especially given Frank, there's implication that being adhd/dyslexic isn't a guaranteed demigod trait, which means it's more likely to be normally inherited from their godly parent/divine ancestor as a general trait, not a power, and further supports the whole "ADHD is battle strategy" thing being non-literal. It also implies the entire greco-roman pantheon in their universe is canonically adhd/dyslexic - and that actually fits very well with the themes of the first series. The entire central conflict of the first series fits perfectly as an allegory about neurodiverse/disabled children and their relationships with their undiagnosed neurodiverse/disabled parents and trying to find solutions together with their shared disability/disabilities that the kid inherited instead of becoming distant from each other (and this makes claiming equivalent to getting a diagnosis which is a fascinating allegory! not to mention the symbolism of demigods inheriting legacies and legends and powers from their parents and everything that comes with that being equivalent to inheriting traits, neurodiversity, and disabilities from your parents).
anyways neurodiversity and disability and the contexts in which the series utilizes representation of those experiences particularly during the 2000s symbolically within the narrative is incredibly important to the first series and the understanding of what themes it means to represent. also if i see one more "the romans have dyscalculia instead of dyslexia" post in 2023 i'm gonna walk into the ocean.

I have always wanted to draw full glam pjo crews 🦉🌊 Might draw the PJO girls in their aesthetics or make a zine later
I read PJO so long ago in middle school and since uni started I didn’t have the time or the heart to read anything other than web comics and my class materials and for 2 years my arts were put to dormant 😭 I tapped back into the fandoms in my last university year. Tough days and shifts passed by easier when I draw 🥺 and ohhh you guys’ comments make my days!💕 Thanks for all the support!
Let me know which PJO crew you guys want to see illustrated next ☀️
