2: Quiet Pining or Shameless Flirting
Awwww, thanks for making the game. Since I've already done Shameless Flirting, I'll do Quiet Pining this time 😆 Enjoy! 🥰

Quiet Pining
Sam lay on the wooden deck of The Paul and Darlene. He could feel himself breathing with the movement of the waves. Smell the salt air in every deep inhale. Watched the haze of clouds above him.
It wasn't a beautiful day.
It was overcast and a little too muggy.
But Sam didn't care. He liked this. This felt like home.
"I could live here forever," whispered Bucky up at the sky.
They were taking a break. A small break between fixing things on the boat as they did every Saturday now ever since Bucky moved to Delacroix.
Sam treasured these little moments. These points in time where it was just him and Bucky, alone on the boat. Sometimes joking. Sometimes, listening to Marvin Gaye. Sometimes, in comfortable silence.
Sam forgot how easy it was to be with Bucky before this. Before his ghosting Sam. Before how he treated Sam those first few weeks of talking. Before Bucky needed to really work to make Sam trust him again.
How easy it was in Europe. In Birnin Zana. When Bucky living in Delacroix felt like a pipe dream. When Sam moving back home felt like a fantasy.
Sam missed this. His heart ached for silent moments like this where they just smiled at each other.
When Sam felt how much he loved this man.
How much this man probably loved him back.
But still.
Sam needed time before he could admit that. To even trust Bucky again like that.
Sam was sure they would get there, though.
"What?" whispered Bucky curiously, his shirt completely askew as he lay next to Sam on the deck.
"Nothing," said Sam as he stood up, "Let's get back to work."

At some point while writing all the WIPs I have that never make it past the planning stage, I decided that Tommy from FATWS was Paul’s best friend and he made Sam’s middle name Thomas for him and I just thought I’d share that.

Written a week late for the @sambuckylibrary Anniversary Event!
Sorry about any typos in advance
Sam Wilson, God bless his nearly perfect soul, didn't have the self-serving skills that the good God gave a gnat. From across the diner, Annalise watched her best friend's son ignore every single sign that his handsome, quiet friend was putting down across their quickly emptying breakfast plates. Her own breakfast was cooling below her, but she had already forgotten about her blueberry oatmeal (cinnamon on top).
To begin with, Sam had invited her to eat with them, despite the fact that were clearly new flowers sitting on the table as well. She knew Bucky Barnes had already made friends with the local florist and she knew he had a weekly order of Sam's favorites set up. (Sam had dropped his affinity for carnations since high school, but still liked yellow flowers and baby's breath). Bucky had also been sitting with his hand on the table, palm up towards Sam, but Sam hadn't taken it yet, hadn't seemed to notice, except to occasionally move some silverware closer to him. Then there was the matter of Bucky's feet, which Annalise could see clearly under the booth as he keep putting his ankle to Sam's, only for Sam to apologize and move his feet back.
Sam Wilson had all the easy charm of his father, but didn't seem to have inherited Paul's keen sense of when the attention was on him. Paul had been a flirt and a half back in the day. He clocked Darlene's interest before Darlene even admitted it to herself (or Annalise, for that matter). Oh, how he had worked day and night to woo her. And then he spent the rest of his life doing the same thing.
Sam was staring down an oncoming train of attention and devotion and he didn't even hear the whistle.
"Dom," she said softly when the waitress walked back by her table. She was across from Sam's booth anyway, but she was pretty certain that even if she was right next to them, neither young man would hear her, too focused on each other. "Could you send a slice of chocolate cheesecake over to them?" she asked. "Keep it between us."
Dom looked back at Sam and Bucky as well, humming in agreement. "Ma'am, consider that fine idea on the house," she laughed. "Might forget a spoon too."
"Oh, now you're speaking my language, young lady," Annalise laughed. "Isn't it great when a plan comes together?"
Dom squeezed her shoulder with an exuberant grin before she disappeared into the kitchen again.
She wasn't the only exuberant one. The boys were bright and cheery as well. It was nice to see after a couple of weeks of quiet from them. Times when one or the other of them was pulled away for their superhero business were always rough. Times when they were both gone were downright untenable. The recuperation needed for the superheroes also never sped things along.
But they seemed to be more at ease, finally back home, as they swiped bacon and toast from each other's plates and cried foul at the same time.
Sam Wilson deserved the world and every happiness. Even as a young boy, clambering over the pulpit to set up his daddy's readings before church, but getting distracted by the crickets that needed a helping hand outside, he had a heart of gold and a moral compass that would go toe-to-toe with most adults in the community. Annalise could remember all of his accolades from high school so well. The sports trophies, the academic achievements, the service awards. She didn't know how he found the time in the day for everything he did, and then helping his parents with the boat and the food boxes as well. All the Wilson kids were like that, but Gideon had gone off without a forwarding address and Sarah had learned to go for what she wanted, created a fairytale love story in front of everyone. Sam had joined the Air Force and spent the rest of the story sacrificing. It wasn't until he came home for Cassius Sr's funeral that they even heard about the accident in Bakmala. It took years after that and a slip up from Sarah for them to learn just how deep the relationship between Sam and his Air Force partner actually was. He just never spoke about it, even to his longest supports in the community. Just focused his attention on Sarah while he could before going off to save the world again.
Too much pain had visited the Wilson household in waves that just never stopped coming. First Gideon leaving, then Paul and then Darlene, then Cassius Sr. and then Sam's partner. Or near enough that order. Plenty of sunshine too, though. Sarah's boys were stunning fruit off of the healthiest of trees. It was hard not to see Sam when Cass was running around town, feeding strays, or when AJ read at church.
But Annalise had been waiting for Sam to bring someone home, make something just for himself. Being Captain America was hardly helping matters. If the young man had ever run out of excuses for his lacking love life before, he had a fresh host of them now.
If you can have lunch with me once a week, you can find yourself a nice man too, she'd said to him a while ago.
It seemed like he had found himself a nice man, she had to admit. No matter how goofy a name like Bucky was, there was no denying he was a good man. (Sure, she'd heard the youngsters talking about The Winter Soldier, but she'd never met the Winter Soldier, thank you very much. Just Bucky Barnes) He was exactly the kind of man for Sam. Not afraid to get his hands dirty, strong and supportive but soft too, on the inside. He was clearly so far gone on Sam that his eyes practically radiated hearts at all times. And, oh boy, could he keep Sam on his toes. They were delightful together in a way that made her ache for her own long-gone love.
And Sam was oblivious to it all. It wasn't for lack of interest. During their lunch dates, the conversation could center entirely around Bucky some days. No matter what else Annalise brought up, Sam would find some way to circle it back around to whatever heroic, or idiotic, thing the other young man had done recently. (Not so young, she supposed. Bucky corrected her every time she said it) If Sam wasn't as far gone on Bucky as the reverse, it was a near, and growing, thing.
So she watched them flirt and banter and pretend like their fingers weren't touching on the table as Bucky mooned over Sam and Sam couldn't look away from Bucky.
Dom came back just as Sam was eating the last of Bucky's pancake. It took a moment for them to look away from each other and to clock the cake she was setting between them.
"Oh, we didn't order this," Bucky corrected sweetly.
"Or that," Sam added as Dom produced two glasses of mimosas as well. His eyes instantly darted over to Annalise.
"Don't worry," Dom assured. "It's on the house. Just a little early-bird-regular special." She smiled brightly at them--there'd been a time Annalise would have loved to see Dom settle down with Sam and they'd have made a lovely couple too--and then turned to leave.
It was Bucky who reached for the spoon first. Then Sam, who came up a spoon short.
"Oh, wait--" he started to call, but Dom didn't look back. Sam shot another glance towards Annalise, who was doing nothing but minding her own business, thank you.
"Well, this is some of the best cake in the state," Bucky pointed out smoothly. He offered the first bite to Sam. "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth and all that."
Sam put his fingers over Bucky's hand on the spoon. He maintained eye contact for just a second before he had to look away as he took the proffered cheesecake.
Bucky grinned cheerily at him before taking at least twice as big a scoop for himself, which led to a familiar scene of them squabbling and trying to strong arm each other into relenting.
"I'll give you the rest!" Bucky insisted, trying to hold the spoon away from Sam's reaching hands.
"The middle is the best part of the slice!" Sam argued, halfway climbing across their booth table. He put a hand on Bucky's shoulder to hold himself upright and had almost reached the spoon when he hip-checked the glass of sweet tea between them. Annalise had lost track of whether it was his or Bucky's. They both had a sweet tooth to end all sweet teeth.
Bucky took the opportunity of Sam reaching back to catch the glass to shove the spoon in his mouth. Sam squawked out a sound that Annalise was sure Captain America shouldn't make and then actually reached over like he was about to pry into Bucky's mouth.
Bucky quickly smacked a hand over his lips as he bent over laughing. "Stop it. I'm gonna spit it on you if you don't stop," he warned, trying to fend Sam off with his other hand. "Don't make me laugh."
"You didn't even taste that!" Sam accused. "That was a waste of the perfect bite!"
"I did taste it," Bucky promised. "It was so good. You missed out."
Annalise was starting to agree with AJ. Sam and Bucky were gross together, in the most endearing way. She hadn't seen Sam goof around like this since junior high. It felt like a little bit of sunshine had been restored to the world.
Bucky chopped off a bite of the crust and offered it to Sam as reconciliation. Judging by the way Sam was still pouting, it was only partially working. Sam took the spoon and they settled down as they finished the cheesecake and their mimosas.
Sam had mentioned that Bucky couldn't get drunk, on account of his serum whatnot, but Annalise wasn't sure she bought it. Every time she saw him drinking, he still seemed to get loose limbed and smiley. Then again, she only ever saw him drink around Sam, so perhaps she was giving credit where it wasn't due. She watched him practically melt into the booth seat, hooking his ankle on Sam's and finally being allowed to stay there as they chatted about their plans for the day as orange juice and champagne slowly fizzled away. They were back to working on the house they'd bought. Technically there had been a housewarming party a couple of weeks ago, but she'd seen the both of them in and out of the hardware store often enough since to know the work was not done. She'd bring over some pie for them. Bucky liked cherry and Sam liked peach, both of which she had in her kitchen.
Eventually, she turned her attention to her thoroughly cold oatmeal. She had almost finished it when the boys started shifting around, bickering about the bill. Bucky darted away to pay for it, even though he'd just been complaining about having to use the restroom. Sam came over to her table, catching her eye as he stood. By the time he sat across from her at the two-seater, she still hadn't looked back up.
"Surely you can't still want to have breakfast with me," she teased him finally when he didn't offer a new greeting.
"You're really just gonna set me up like that, huh?" he asked. The gap in his teeth always gave away his grins, just like Paul's had. He really did make her chest ache sometimes. "Just 'cause Bucky won't blame you doesn't keep you out of my sights."
Annalise scoffed softly and shook her head. "I don't know what you're talking about, Samuel Thomas. Mind your manners."
Sam held up his hands placatingly. "Was there any reason cake appeared between us then?"
Annalise shrugged and pretended to read something on her phone. Usually she read the news while she had her breakfast, but she hadn't even opened her subscription because Sam and Bucky were more interesting. "I suppose there was extra. It can only sit out so long, you know."
Sam put his chin on his criss-crossed fingers, elbows on the table, which she swatted at but was ignored for. She continued to pretend to read a text message until she sighed.
"I just think you deserve something nice. You never take anything for yourself," she admonished lightly. "And I'm not talking about cake, young man."
Sam's eyebrows rose in surprise, but not at her words, she didn't think. Just at the admission. "Bucky is not nice," he said. "He's a pain and a lot of work."
Annalise hummed with a smile, thought of her loves. "All the best things are, aren't they?"
And Sam smiled. Really smiled. The sun came out. Birds sang. He really was her favorite Wilson child. "Yeah, sometimes they are," he agreed.
"Ready to go?" Bucky asked, appearing like he'd been summoned by that smile. He had his hand on the back of Sam's shoulder, inching towards his neck. "Hi again, Mrs. Corbett," he said to Annalise warmly.
"Yeah, mind pulling the truck around?" Sam asked.
Bucky glanced at Annalise, then back to Sam. "Sure," he agreed. "I'll give you two a little while longer to gossip."
Sam had a scar below his left eye that hadn't been there when he'd left for the Air Force. Shrapnel, she'd heard from someone, but she wasn't sure how true that was. Sam never talked about it and it'd be rude to ask. The first time she'd seen it, it had made her heart stop to think about something so violent coming so close to Sam's face, his eyes. By then, it had been a pale thin, still a little tender and thin, but healed. By now, it was barely noticeable, unless the sun was shining in the window just right to make it shine a little. Unless she was watching it as Bucky's lips came down on it, even though Sam's left side was across from where Bucky was standing.
Sam's eyes were still closed, long eyelashes fluttering, as Bucky stood up again. "Don't leave me idling for too long," he warned as he squeezed Sam's shoulder and turned for the door.
She watched Bucky leave, a Levi's ad come to life, and then looked to Sam who had come back to the world of mere mortals.
"Now, Samuel Thomas Wilson," she started, pointing a spoon at him.
Sam laughed merrily, slapping a hand across his chest. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry."
"I didn't set you up anything! You set me up!" she accused. "Why haven't you told me?"
Sam was still laughing, shaking his head as he clutched onto his ribs. "I don't know, Miss Lise. I guess...I just liked having it for myself for a while. I was gonna tell you first," he said with a hand over his chest. He settled back in his seat and watched her with a slight apprehension.
Annalise watched him back. "I like Bucky," she said. "I don't like his name, but I like him. You did good there."
"I know you like him," Sam assured. "You just tried to set me up with him."
"Well, the last time I tried to set you up, you just never showed up," she said with a sniff.
"It was a dinner with you!" Sam defended. "I didn't know you were going to ditch me with a stranger."
"She wasn't a stranger. She was only three years younger than you."
"I lived in DC at the time," he added.
Annalise shrugged. "You skipped. Did you know Bucky then?"
Sam laughed softly and shook his head. "No, not then," he said. "Not yet. Besides, it took us a while to get there, even once I did know him."
Annalise knew there was a whole novel worth of story behind Sam and Bucky. She read the news about Sam, and Bucky had been mentioned in a few of them, but she hadn't been paying attention to him at the time, nor did she care to go back and reread anything.
She reached out for Sam's hand and squeezed his fingers. "I'm glad you're happy, Sam," she said softly. "It's what you've deserved for a long time."
Sam put his other hand over hers to squeeze back. "Do you think they'd like him?" he asked softly.
Annalise looked out the front windows, where Bucky was drumming his fingers on the steering wheel of the truck Sam had had since high school, singing along to some song she couldn't hear. She squeezed Sam's hand tighter.
"I do, Sammy," she said with a smile. "I really do. They'd be so proud of you. All of you. Always."
Sam kissed her hand before standing up. "Thank you, Miss Lise."
"We love you, Sam," she said, standing to hug him. She kissed his temple fiercely. "Good job on this one."
He smiled again and then left to get into the truck. He paused outside the driver's side to kiss Bucky through the open window.
Annalise smiled too. "Dom," she called, sitting again, "could I get some cheesecake over here. I earned it."

Comic Theory: The Wilson family are descendants of the Shi'ar
Okay so here me out. There was a moment in comics where professor Xavier had a feeling Sam Wilson was a mutant (Thank god that was never confirmed. I still don't like that Kamala khan was confirmed mutant. I have my own issues with how BIPOC mutants are treated in comics.) and his contact with the stone just awakened latent gene's within him. Johnny Storm even asked Sam if he was sure he wasn't a mutant. But they never brought this train of thought back up. I always had a theory that either Darlene or Paul had pretended to be human to assimilate or have an ancestor that pretended to be human. That Sarah and Gideon as well as their kids also have dormant genes. Now that I watched episode six of X-Men 97 and seeing the Shi'ar race. A race of bird people that have a few people that have Psychic abilities. Who Xavier obviously has a lot of intimate knowledge about. Fun fact Shi'ar who breed with humans those hybrids are called Mutants. So what if those feelings Xavier was getting from Sam weren't a earth mutation but because he is a Shi'ar hybrid. It would answer why Sam always felt close connection to birds but couldn't explain why, the Psychic abilities, and why Sam has great feats of strength despite being "human". Also Newer Shi'ar tend to lose their bird features which is why lady deathbird has the metallic wings. So it would explain why we don't see the feathered hair and features. Everything points to the Wilsons being Shi'ar. We can even say high council Shi'ar since those with Psychic abilities we see in comics are on the council.

Youre Just Gonna Set Me Up Like That Huh?
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/saElb0r by Writer_Lethogica Sam may or may not be feigning ignorance to watch Bucky fix things on the boat. EXCERPT: “There was this girl. In high school. Connie Feldman. She was the best math student in our grade. Until junior year where seemingly she couldn’t put two and two together unless I told her it was four,” said Bucky, and Sam couldn’t stop himself, he found his eyes gravitating up to Bucky’s, “Are you pulling a Connie Feldman on me, Samuel?” Bucky’s voice was a notch lower. A shiver-inducing, melodic, knowing tone looking for Sam to back down and fess up. Little did Bucky know, Sam was one of the most stubborn people in the world. Sam Wilson, son of fishermen, raised on The Paul & Darlene, who worked summers and winter breaks and spring breaks on this ship wasn’t going to tell Bucky Barnes that he was absolutely making excuses up to watch Bucky do handyman work. “You’re really good at this boat stuff,” said Sam much too innocently, fluttering his long eyelashes. Bucky. Laughed. Baffled. “You’re just gonna set me up like that, huh?” asked Bucky as he pulled Sam to a standing position by the hand, “You’re really just gonna set me up like that?” Words: 1767, Chapters: 1/1, Language: English Series: Part 5 of TFATWS Anniversary 2024 Fics Fandoms: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (TV), Captain America (Movies), Marvel Cinematic Universe Rating: Explicit Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Categories: M/M Characters: Sam Wilson (Marvel), James "Bucky" Barnes Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Sam Wilson Additional Tags: no beta we die like men, POV Sam Wilson (Marvel), Tooth-Rotting Fluff, Boat Sex, Getting Together, Gay Chicken, of a sort, Blow Jobs, Hand Jobs, First Kiss, Competence Kink, Actions Do Indeed Have Consequences, In That Sam and Bucky Must Fess Up They're Actual Feelings, Bucky Barnes Takes Care of Sam Wilson, Sam Wilson getting his needs met, And Those Needs Are Being Given Care and Attention By Someone Who Loves Him, Big Dick Barnes read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/saElb0r

The last plates of breakfast were being withdrawn from the table when King Paul started talking, wanting to update his children on the news their castle was going to get prepared for that same day. Stretching his hand to take the one of Queen Darlene, he cleared his throat as his daughter and son were sharing their plans for the day with each other.
“We received an urgent letter written from the Kingdom of Asgard last evening,” he started, soon getting the attention of the youngest in the room. “It appears that Lady Darcy is traveling to Manhattan Land, and in her journey she wishes to make a stop at our castle. We will host a dinner for our guest, and I trust you both will behave by showing the values our family has been keeping for generations.”
Princess Sarah’s face lit up at the name of the other young woman, and the Prince could not help but show a tiny smile as he knew the true meaning of that reaction.
“As I know you two are good friends,” the King continued, “I believe it will be suitable to settle her in your chamber, as I wouldn’t want her to feel un-welcomed by having one of the guest rooms, since they are at the other wing of the castle.”
“Father, we will make sure she feels at home,” Princess Sarah reassured, even if her father did not have a doubt about that being their performance.
“Is she traveling alone, father?” Prince Samuel asked, earning a questioning raised eyebrow from his mother, who then landed eyes on the princess.
“The letter spoke about her bodyguard as well,” the king continued, strange to the exchange, “Thor from the ancient Odin Dynasty. I believe he was the Lady’s personal guard in previous visits, so he will not want to leave her side. It is expected of you, son, to offer him accommodation in your chambers, since it is placed next to your sister’s.”
Prince Sam nodded in agreement, not wanting to seem too excited about their future visit as his sister gave him a knowing look from the other side of the table.
“You can go now to have your classes of the day, my dears,” Queen Darlene let them go before going back to discuss with her husband what arrangements they would have to make for the Lady’s driver and carriage.
Lady Darcy tried to hold her excitement as she knew they had entered the lands of their allies, where they would spend a night with a family she had known since she was a child. Thor was working on her hair to pass the time, having finished a second braid that he linked to the first one with a red ribbon, over the rest of Darcy’s long hair, at the level of her neck.
“I believe Princess Sarah will be eager to see you,” he commented, knowing the depths of her protégée’s feelings for the woman as they had been raised as equals before he had become part of the royal guard.
“I will adventure myself to say the same about the prince,” Darcy responded. She was not unaware, either, of the glances the men had exchanged in other events in which they had coincided. “We have not encountered them in a long time. I believe we will have time to catch up with our dear friends.”
Thor smiled in silence.
As they had been promised by their driver, they arrived at the castle when the sun was leaving for the night. While some of their luggage was brought up upstairs, Lady Darcy and her guard were welcomed by the King and Queen in a hall briefly before heading to one of the dining rooms, where they were double- welcomed as well by their long-distance friends and a display of local products.
They had dinner while chattering about how things were going on in Asgard and summarizing what their trip to Manhattan was for. The King offered them accommodation for their way back the following month, and the Lady was pleased to accept such a generous offer.
When food was run low they moved onto other entertainments to a larger hall. The Queen delighted them with some songs, filling the room with glee as Prince Sam asked Lady Darcy for a dance. Then, at the first sign of tiredness from the Lady, Princess Sarah excused all of them for the night and after wishing their parents to have a peaceful night, they led their visitors to the part of the castle where their chambers awaited with the promise of a comforting night among loved ones.
Having passed the corner where the last guard stood, the princess and Lady Darcy linked hands as the prince backed off to walk at the level of the bodyguard, their fingers brushing as their hands got closer with every step.
“We can set up the fireplace and sleep in front of it,” Sarah was telling her beloved as they planned how to spend the little time they would have together. “Oh, and I loved your braids!”
Lady Darcy had a smile that almost could not fit her face, and soon the pair parted ways.
Prince Sam led Thor to a chamber that was not strange to the bodyguard and out to the balcony, where they could finally speak; a place to return to their shared memories of passionate moments from past encounters.
“I believe my raven found its way into delivering my letter,” Thor stated.
“He did,” Samuel smiled, remembering Thor’s words in his later letter. “You trained him well. I hope mine got to you as well.”
“It did,” Thor replied, taking one of his hands. “I also wish you liked my gift, though I am aware you are accustomed to higher accessories.” They locked eyes on the bracelet Thor had made for the prince, one that now he wore proudly every day.
“Having with me a piece of you, it means everything,” Samuel shared before lamenting “I am sad I do not have anything from me to give you, as I wish this would be reciprocated. I can only offer you this night, my dear.”
“Being able to hold you, to kiss you, is enough of a gift,” Thor confessed to him and the night sky only, brushing a thumb over his beloved’s hand.
Prince Samuel took a step closer to seal his silent confession of love with a kiss, cupping the bodyguard’s face in anticipation of everything they could do together if they chose not to sleep that night.

Official Invitation - Chapter 2: “Dressed To Impress” by @tllgrrl aka Nefertiri Jones
Summary: Now that the whole family knows he and Sarah are officially seeing each other, Bucky feels like he needs to step up his attire before the next Big Family Cookout.
He asks Sarah for some advice, so they snag a bit of afternoon downtime to go over his options.
* * * * * * * * * *
Previously…
“It’s finally happened,” Sam nods.
Bucky lays down his phone, leans back and crosses his arms, mirroring Sam, but without the smile. “What’s finally happened?” he glares.
“You lived in Wakanda, where you…well…became a person again. You started dating Sarah, you’re a part of the Wilson family now. And you’re living near New Orleans, home of some of the best cuisine in the world, outside of Sarah’s cooking, that is.
All of this adds up to you developing a more finely-tuned palate and a taste—no…a preference—for seasoned food.
Man, I’d say what’s finally happened is that you are ready for an official, permanent Invitation to The Cookout!”
Sam could tell, by The Squint now accompanying The Glare, that Bucky had no idea what that even meant.
* * * * * * * * * *
2 months later—
“…especially now that you and I are officially…keeping company. Anyway, I can’t be at the cookout looking like a bum, ya know? I want to look sharp…for you. I want you to be proud to be with me, Sarah. Especially in front of your family.
So…what do you think...?”
The look on his face was so earnest that she felt it warming in her own chest.
As she expected, his first choice was to wear black. All black. Black jeans, black t-shirt. Black motorcycle boots.
She put her laptop aside, left the bed and walked around him, evaluating his “look”.
(Not that he doesn’t actually look somewhat…formal…in all black. To be honest, he looks straight outta GQ in all black.)
But she knows that she’s not the one he’s trying to impress. Not the only one.
The Titis and everybody else would be looking at him through a different lens now.
He’s no longer Sam’s Friend and Captain America’s Sidekick, Sargent Bucky Barnes.
He’s now Paul and Darlene’s Babygirl’s Steady, Sargent James Barnes.
Keep Reading on AO3.

The Delacroix Kitty Corner Hello, my kitties! It's been a hot day, and I'm not just talking about temperature. It seems a beloved local hero is being targeted by a former assassin. And not with a sniper rifle. With cupid's arrow! There have been several reports of a certain James Buchanan Barnes hanging out with our own pride and joy Sam Wilson near The Paul & Darlene supposedly trying to fix the boat, though, you can be the judge of that based on these photos. Will this Brooklyn transplant win the heart of our favorite Falcon with his machine know-how? Probably not. But he might with those arms. - The Delacroix Kitten Squad

Not Having Fun Down on the Bayou
Bucky is less than thrilled about exploring what’s supposed to be a deserted island off the coast of Louisiana. But letting Sam go alone would be worse.
This is a fill for today’s  @flashfictionfridayofficial prompt  [#FFF192 Sea and Sun] as well as my  @allcapsbingo  N4 - Deserted Island  square.
Fandom: MCU/Marvel Pairing:  Bucky Barnes & Sam Wilson Rating: General Tags:  Falcon and the Winter Soldier compliant,  mission fic, Louisiana, Bucky is not a fan of Nature Word Count: 355
Bucky was still getting used to this part of the country,  where lakes and rivers and bays all sort of flowed one into the other and the ground under your feet couldn’t always be trusted.    He was a city boy, born and bred, with Central Park and Coney Island beach being his touchstones of nature.   Everything down here felt too wild and untamed,  dangerous and unpredictable.
The two of them had  stepped off the Paul & Darlene onto what Sam had called Lonesome Island  but looked – and smelled – more like a gigantic heap of seaweed and mangrove with nothing making it worth more than a cursory visit. But that was exactly the reason they were here: to find out if this deserted island really wasn’t deserted after all.
Sam pointed across the water to a smudge of green just above the waves.   “That’s the West Black Bay Seaplane base, but I’m pretty sure the guys we’re tracking are using this island as their base instead
“I still don’t know why we had to come out here,” Bucky complained, water already starting to ooze into his boots.  “Isn’t that what  your little drone-thing for?  Remote surveillance and stuff?”
“Redwing can only do so much on his own, Buck. Don’t you want to take these smugglers down for good?”
“If they’re hanging out here, odds are the gators and mosquitoes will take them down first.”   Bucky replied irritably, swatting at a cloud of bugs.
“Fine. Go sit your ass in the boat. But put a line in the water at least, so it looks like you’re fishing or something.” Sam shot back.
“Nuh-uh.  We’re a team, Sam.  Whither thou goest and all that jazz.”  As if Bucky would let his friend hunt down their quarry alone.  Besides, now that the sun was starting to burn off the fog,  Bucky could admit there was a certain charm to the island, especially as a light breeze was blowing away the heavy scent of vegetation, replacing it with salt-laden sea air.
Bucky could still think of a hundred places he’d rather be,  but he belonged at Sam’s side -- wherever that was.

The bright red digits of the clock shone across the small space. Bucky felt as though they were searing his eyeballs with the strength of a thousand suns, and at the same time mocking him.
12:37 am.
He closed his eyes and gently turned over, trying not to make too heavy a movement.
The heat of Sam’s body, now in front of him, tempted him to press closer, to seek warmth and comfort, but Bucky held back. Sam had had a busy week, a busy month in fact, and the last thing he wanted to do was disturb him. Instead Bucky settled for just watching over his boyfriend as he slept.
Sam’s back was to him. He was wearing a sleeveless tee, and Bucky’s eyes traced the lines of the strong muscles in Sam’s shoulders. The shoulders that physically carried the wing suit and metaphorically carried the weight of the world. He could see the defined triceps on one of Sam’s arms. His strong solid arms. Arms that could hold Bucky in a tender lover’s embrace. Bucky smiled to himself in the dark. Once Sam had had a point to prove and those arms had held him aloft, pinned to a wall as Sam…
No…supposed to be going to sleep.
He craned his neck and twisted slightly to look at the time.
12:42 am.
Fuck. Okay Meditation time.
He rolled onto his back, and placed his hands on his abdomen, fingers interlaced.
Breath in through the nose 1…2…3…4…5
Out through the mouth 1…2…3…4…5
Bucky tried to let his mind drift, not really focusing on any one thought or another, letting the images and feelings float through his mind without too much inspection. He was vaguely aware of his body relaxing, the tension starting to ebb away, and a spark of hope began to bloom….
SNORT!
Now Bucky was counting in his head for another reason because, as sure as day follows night, if he didn’t love Samuel Thomas Wilson with every fibre of his being, he would have smothered him with a pillow for making that noise. It had dragged him fully back to the surface again, and he was no closer to sleep now than when both of them had headed to bed at 11:30.
12:55 am.
Carefully he slid out of bed and made his way carefully to the kitchen. Hopefully, a cup of tea might help.
With the steaming mug of chamomile in hand, Bucky walked through to the living room, flicking on the lamp and settling on the sofa. A smile played on his lips as he pulled the throw, one of Sam’s many purchases, off the back and draped it over his body. With the steaming mug in his left hand, he picked up his book from the coffee table and flipped it open at the book mark. Surely sitting and reading the Lord of the Rings would help him drift off?
The steady ‘tick-tick-tick’ of the mantel clock, one that had belonged to Paul and Darlene, provided some background noise as Bucky read and sipped his drink. When the mug was empty, he turned and looked up at the clock
01:23 am.
The book fell to his lap, and Bucky scrubbed his hand down his face. He was so tired. Why couldn’t he sleep? This clock was mocking him now. He made another drink and settled down to read more of his book. It was so frustrating. His eyes would close and his head would nod, so he’d put his book down, wriggle down under the throw, only for his brain to sharpen up again.
Sam looks so tired at the moment. Is he doing too much?
01:58 am
Tick-tick-tick
Joaquin isn’t quite getting those barrel rolls right. They leave his left flank open too long
02:36 am
Tick-tick-tick
Yelena’s technique is good, but her cockiness might be her achilles heel.
03:02 am
Tick-tick-tick
Oh dear lord, Kate!
Maybe if he wrote down what was on his mind, that would help?
Tumblr media
Sam woke, as he normally did, at 5.30am. Stretching out his limbs he turned over to find…a half empty bed. He shook his head to himself and, gently rising from the mattress, headed downstairs.
There he found, as expected, Bucky curled up on the sofa with the throw he claimed to hate so much pulled around him. On the coffee table was an empty mug, Bucky’s book, a notepad, and a battery.
The latter confused him momentarily, until his eyes darted up to his parent’s clock. The back was off and the compartment empty. Bucky had either got fed up with the noise, or the reminder of the time; it wouldn’t be the first time that that had happened.
His gaze returned to the notepad, and he could see that Bucky had written out a list.
Tumblr media
It took him a moment to decipher the last scrawl.
Aww, hell no…….

The Times Are Wrong
I was in the mood to write some dark Bucky.
***
“Can you stay with him?” Steve asked after they decided that they would call Scott Lang and the others tomorrow. “I’ll go get us some food.”
Bucky’s metal arm was still stuck under the machine they had put it in so Sam wasn’t that worried about the former Hydra agent but he still did not want to be left alone with him.
“I dunno. What if he breaks free?” Sam answered unsurely.
“Well, he seems lucid enough right now. He won’t hurt you,” Steve replied with the confidence only he could muster despite the situation. “Please, Sam? I will be back soon. I just- I need to catch a breath. Away from here.” Away from him. Steve left that part unsaid.
Sam sighed and nodded his head. “Fine, but you better hurry up.”
Steve reached out and touched Sam’s cheek. “I promise I will.” And with that he left. Sam could still feel a tingle where the other man had touched him. They were so close. Sam could have just leaned in and kissed him. It would have been so easy.
“So you’re in love with him?”
Bucky’s voice brought Sam back to reality and he turned to frown at the super soldier.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Sam claimed.
“Oh, don’t play coy, sweetheart. I can see you practically drooling after him,” Bucky replied with a roll of his eyes.
“Yeah, fine, I’m in love with him. What’s it to you?” Sam asked.
“What’s it to me?” Bucky huffed. He easily pulled his metal arm free from where it was clamped down on the machine and stood up.
Sam’s eyes widened and he took a step back as Bucky stalked his way over to him. Bucky cornered Sam into a wall, leaving him nowhere to go.
“Back off before I make you,” Sam warned him, although his heart was beating hard against his chest.
“I’d love to see you try,” Bucky retorted and pressed his large body against Sam.
Sam tried pushing him away but failed. “What do you want from me?” He asked, annoyed.
“I want you,” Bucky replied
Sam stopped squirming against Bucky and blinked at him. “What?”
“I want you… I’m in love with you,” Bucky clarified.
“What?” Sam asked again. “What do you mean you’re in love with me? You don’t even know me!”
“Of course I know you. You’re Samuel Thomas Wilson, middle child of Paul and Darlene Wilson. You joined the Air Force at 18. Rose the ranks pretty quickly and became part of the Pararescue team. You and your boyfriend Riley were inseparable until Riley lost his life.”
Sam watched Bucky with his mouth agape as Bucky recounted his life story. But then he frowned and grabbed Bucky by his shirt. “Why do you know all this about me?” He demanded.
“You took an interest in me so I took an interest in you,” Bucky shrugged.
“There was nothing about Riley and me in my files. How do you know he was my boyfriend?” Sam asked. Those were the days of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, so no one knew about him and Riley, apart from what he told Steve.
“It wasn’t hard to put two and two together,” Bucky replied. “The more I got to know you, the more I fell for you.”
Sam let go of Bucky’s shirt and pushed him again, who went without resistance this time.
“Look, I am flattered that you have feelings for me but as you know, I love Steve.”
“But does he love you back?” Bucky asked. “Isn’t he caught up on Peggy Carter or is it Sharon now? I can’t keep up with the Carters.”
That hurt because it was the truth but Sam refused to show it to Bucky of all people.
“I don’t care,” was all Sam said.
“Wouldn’t it be easy to just forget about him and give me a chance?” Bucky asked.
“I don’t care for easy.” Sam past him and walked away.
“Well, too bad, cause I don’t intend on giving up,” Bucky called out after him.
***
Sam’s heart broke into a million pieces as he watched Steve kiss Sharon.
“Told you you were wasting your time after him,” Bucky said from behind him, making Sam wanna turn around and punch him. Punch him for being right.
“Shut up,” Sam grumbled.
Steve left Sharon and came over to them with a dopey smile on his face that hurt Sam even more.
“What was that all about?” Sam asked casually when Steve got into the car.
“What was what?” Steve asked.
“You kissing Sharon?”
Sam asked and tried to keep the hurt out of his voice.
“Oh that… it was nothing,” Steve replied.
Sam frowned at him. “It was clearly something Steve.”
“Not really. I kissed her and it made me realize something,” Steve said, looking over at Sam.
“Realize what?”
“That I was in love with someone else,” Steve replied without breaking eye contact with Sam.
Sam gulped. “And who would that be?” He asked, both eager and nervous to know the answer.
“You,” Steve replied and leaned in to kiss Sam. “I love you,” he whispered against Sam’s lips.
***
What neither of them saw was that behind them, Bucky was seething in rage.

'I DON’T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT MY BAD REPUTATION' I wanna know more please 👀👀
hi sary!!!! thanks for the ask <3
this is my placeholder title for the 10 things i hate about you au! basically sarah's 15 and a sophomore and paul and darlene think she's a bit young to be dating anyone, but she's grown closer and gotten a little flirtatious with the junior in her chemistry class, ayo. she asks her parents if she can start dating, not telling them why, and they joke that she can date when sam does. sam, despite regularly getting asked out by pretty much everyone around, has been avoiding the dating scene, as he's got way too much on his plate between classes, volunteering, working, and athletics to add that on top. there just hasn't been anyone worth trying to find the time for yet
sarah takes the joke seriously though and tells ayo about it. ayo happens to be decent friends with bucky barnes, even though he can get on her nerves times, and tries to get him to ask sam out, since bucky's been crushing on sam since elementary school and has literally never told him. bucky agrees after some cajoling on the premise that he gets to wait to ask and get to know sam first, and sarah starts giving bucky information on where sam goes when he's not at school/his likes and dislikes/etc etc etc
excerpt:
“I need a favor.”
Bucky looks up from his calculus homework to see Ayo sitting down across the cafeteria table from him, somehow still as intimidating as ever despite the garish colors and lighting of their high school lunchroom.
“Is it opposite day?” he asks, more than used to asking Ayo for favors rather than the other way around. He must owe her a million by now.
“Considering you owe me about a million favors by now,” Ayo starts, echoing Bucky’s thoughts, “we’ll call this a start to repaying your debt.”
Bucky sets his horrendously sad, gray chicken nugget down, half-submerging it in the overly liquidy cafeteria ranch dressing. “What do you need me to do?”
“I need you to ask out Sam Wilson.”
