#Jason's angry and he has every right to be and to say he isn't is to erase an incredibly important part of his character
Text
Dear God how I fucking hate when people dismiss s character's traits because "that's just a facade! you as the reader have to see underneath it!!" like yeah no fucking shit Sherlock, a well written character has more than one (1) defining trait but that doesn't mean their most prominent one or the one most recognized by fandom ISN'T there
yes this is about people thinking dick grayson isn't actually a ray of sunshine, that it's just a mask. he's much more than the happy one, of fucking course, all batfam members (when written well) are, but that doesn't mean that being happy and bright is not a crucial part of his personality. he brings light to people's lives, he's a beacon of hope, that's what Robin was born for, as a light to Batman's darkness. That's what Nightwing is. He can be serious, sure. He's smart, an amazing strategist, incredibly good at fighting, he can be manipulative and morally gray and sometimes an objectively bad person. But he's ALSO funny and quippy and bright and sunshine. BECAUSE HE'S WELL WRITTEN.
Like Jesus stop making him so sad and wrong all the time just because you want so bad to go against "fanon". It's not fanon if it's literally his core trait. It's not fanon if it's what the character was BORN AS. God.
#I'm not sure if this even makes sense#it's almost 6am I haven't slept and I just saw someone say he's a manipulative bitch and to stop writing him as a ray of sunshine#and now I'm mad#because this parson had this lukewarm takes with most of the batkids#like yeah I get a lot of damian's traits and back story are deeply rooted in racism#but like he did try to kill tim. and he killed a bunch of people when he first got to Gotham. that's a thing that happened.#and no matter how racist the reason behind that plot line might have been#it's something that happened and choosing to believe it didn't happen because it doesn't fit your preconceived ideas of how#a character should or should not be is just plain stupid#you can explore the character and change their personality and play with them in fanfic sure that's what we all do#but don't pretend that canon doesn't exist. you can choose to utilize it or not but acknowledge it even if it's just to spit in it's face#damian's not tame he's not more chill than his brothers he's not misunderstood#he's a child who had a horribly traumatic childhood and reacts with violence because that's all he knows#Jason's angry and he has every right to be and to say he isn't is to erase an incredibly important part of his character#you don't get to tell a victim how to be a good victim. Jason's a victim.#dc#batman#rambles#batfam#batfamily#dc universe#dc comics#batman and robin#dick grayson#Jason Todd#Damian Wayne#nightwing#red hood#oh look I made a post about dc that is NOT about Tim#wild huh

The seven + Nico and Reyna and their red flags ✼
warnings: not proofread, swearwords, lmk if I missed anything!
a/n: okay I'm sorry I didn't post for like two months, ngl I simply forgot that this blog existed😭
notes to the fic: reader is written as gn (one mention off y/n), but pls don't read Nico's part if u identify as female! :)
masterlist
Tumblr media
Percy
he's always barefoot during spring and summer
you'll never catch him with shoes on because he things that they are "blocking the fresh air his toes need"
at least they never get that dirty because he can't survive five minutes without jumping in the sea
when he was younger sally had to force him wear shoes to school, to the parkt et cetera and he was always so angry at her after that because he hated it with all his passion
that anger quickly faded after she baked some blue cookies
after growing up he learned that he should wear shoes to school et cetera but the second he is at camp he gets rid of them
after you dressed it he delegated that he always washed them and kept them clean so there was no wrong doing it and that it's actually healthy for your feet
Annabeth
listen, I love annabeth
but she's always mansplaining
Like u could be talking about ur close family that she only met once and she‘d say something like „actually, i had the impression that…“
It’s so annoying
she doesn't even mean it mean or something
but it also could be just a conversasiation that she isn't even involved in and she'll just randomly pop up and mansplain the topic
jason
That boy doesn’t have any basic knowledge
Like he is at camp jupiter since he’s three or something
I‘m not sure if they even knew what they where teaching him
Like that boy doesn’t know algebra
You could be talking about something in history and how deeply that event infected the way society lives now and he‘d be like „what do you mean?“
And he’s serious
Everytime Percy and Leo make fun of him for not knowing something he‘ll run to you and beg you to explain it to him
Most of the time you make a bit fun of him too because a 17 year old boy who doesn’t know what the french Revolution was is kinda funny
He knows that you‘re just joking though
hazel
I love her but she's like one of the extra careful mom's whose world break when their child hears a swear word
every time you are someone near both of ou swears she has this weird shocked and impressed look and looks around the room
you had to stop swearing around her bc she always starts blushing and looks at you in awe
they don't even have to be the "bad" swear words, it could be something like shit and she'd still be shocked
you had to learn to find alternatives like fudge or fox
she made you browse for the alternatives to swear words for around two hours at midnight and made you subscribe to the mommy blogs incase they had "more cool little alternatives"
piper
she's a die hard romance book hater
she always gives you the weird look when you read one or even only look at one at the bookstore
like she doesn't even have a plausible reason besides that they "always have the same ending and are very predictable"
I mean she's right but still
when she was 14 she had an instagram where she just talked shit about romance books because she was bored
it's not even that she doesn't like reading or books that much, she just doesn't like them because they (as already said) have the same ending and because she gor sick of the perfect romantic ending after drew talked night in and out about it
you once convinced her to read your favorite romance book and she tried her best to be nice
she actually didn't find it that bad and liked the ending but she would never admit that to you
leo
that boy either doesn't shower for one week or takes two hour showers
it's a bit better in the summer but especially in winter he never shower because he "would just get dirty later again"
you have to force him too properly shower because he would just forget it again
and when he actually showers for once he takes two hour showers
but especially in summer he's just gonna swim in the lake and call it a day because he basically "got clean already"
frank
I love frank sm but he would 7 in 1 shampoo
he doesn't get why it's bad and insists that it makes his hair shinier
you try to explain it to him once but he just doesn't understand 😪
he also tries to convince you all the time that it's so much better than owning body wach, shampoo and conditioner
nico
is a pop music hater
he always has this annoyed look on his face when you play pop music
he always makes this disappointed dad sigh and says "again?"
nico sounds so disappointed
he secretly loves it about you tho
reyna
she's like a confused mom and never gets jokes
"what do you mean by that, y/n? I never do that"
you try to explain the joke to her but give up after 10 minutes
she's grumpy for the rest of the day because you wouldn't finish explaining it to her
eventually she gives her pride up and asks you again
and after another ten stressful minutes she finally gets it
she kept arguing that what you said doesn't make sense

Every time I learn something new about Batman: War Games I lose my mind a little bit more cause just, just fuckin, look okay so here's the thing:
Stephanie Brown tries to implement a contingency plan of Bruce's just after he fires her from being Robin and because of that gets tortured to (almost) death and no one knows she survived.
THIS STORY RUNS IN THE NEWS:
Tumblr media
So, you know, anyone who might be paying even half a fucking ounce of attention to news about ROBINS would definitely absolutely notice this!!!
And then very very soon afterwards Jason comes back and specifically targets Black Mask to ruin the criminal empire he tortured Stephanie to get
As a way to torment Bruce about the fact that he doesn't take care of the nastiest criminals and they continue killing people
And how Jason should have been the last to die
and SOMEHOW
these two things are in no way related and Jason has nothing to do with or say about Stephanie Brown, fellow Robin, fellow martyred soldier, fellow child dead due to Bruce related villains.
HOLY DEAD SIDEKICKS BATMAN, DO YOU COMPREHEND THE MAGNITUDE OF MISSED OPPORTUNITIES HERE????
Tumblr media
please walk with me down a timeline in which:
Lost Days Jason at first just tries to go after the Joker and can't because who he's really mad at is Bruce.
Then he sees Who Really Killed Stephanie Brown and the utter horror of another Robin dying on Bruce's watch (not just dying, but tortured to death!) is what convinces him to try to straight up kill Bruce via car bomb
Roman Sionis is no longer merely a tool against Batman, but another figure to demand vengeance be brought upon, another attempt to give Bruce a chance to right his wrongs and do what needs to be done
The confrontation with him and the Joker being all the more tragic due to how obvious Bruce's answer would have to be once Jason knows Bruce isn't going to avenge Stephanie either
Does Jason, once he escapes the rubble after UtRH is over, kill Black Mask anyways? Does he decide to avenge her himself? Or does he think that she too would demand that of Bruce, and find his death by a different hand unsatisfactory?
If he doesn't kill Black Mask, then when Steph is back, I feel confident he approaches her, tries to reach out to the other dead Robin, almost certainly makes the offer now that he can ask her. Does she take him up on it, gaining an ally and slipping into a far darker role? Does she instead refuse, either appealing to forgiveness or far more interestingly refusing both vengeance and forgiveness? How would Jason handle a refusal, which I gut instinct feel is more likely?
If he does kill Black Mask, then when Steph is back Jason drops his corpse at her feet like a loving housecat with a dead lizard and she has to grapple with her feelings about having someone really and truly avenge her!!! Like how DO you react to someone who you have been warned is wildly dangerous and mentally unstable coming up to you and saying, "I'm glad you're back, like me. I'm sorry you're back, like me. I made sure you could rest knowing he was dead, because I know what it feels like."
Like no matter how each character reacted to this happening there would be so much high stakes emotional shit to explore with both of them!! Revenge I feel like is such a pivotal thing for both characters, they mirror each other in so so many ways, they could be really interesting together if DC would just fucking let them!!!
Jason had a criminal father who he missed and wanted to avenge. Stephanie had a criminal father who she wanted vengeance on.
Jason started off as a fairly gentle soul who progressively became more violent and more hopeless as he was exposed to genuine horrors during his time as Robin. Stephanie starts off violent, angry and rash and finds her own courage and hope through her time as a crime fighter despite of the horrors she's been through.
Jason went to Africa and died there after Bruce failed to save him. Stephanie was taken to Africa via a fake death in order to save her from Bruce and the vigilante lifestyle.
I just...
There's just...
There's SO MUCH HERE I am genuinely fucking confused as to how this is not all deliberate?? And it's all just left on the cutting room floor because for no reason apparent to me they all just decided Stephanie and Jason were not gonna interact!
AAGHHHH!

,,,, russian bruce wayne
Russian Bruce Wayne
RUSSIAN BRUCE WAYNE -
Listen. Listen. Not fully compacted into something coherent, but I'll do my best, because this idea has been haunting me, -
SO he's russian on his mother's side!! Martha Wayne immigrated in America when she was a teenager, nothing to her name but hope in her chest and her mother's pearl necklace in her pocket
She always got ugly looks for speaking in her native language and her accent. Slowly, it melted into something perfectly English, but she still spoke Russian at home and especially to Bruce
Little Bruce loved Baba Yaga as a kid and dressed like her for Halloween every single year; Nobody really understood it, but a glare from Alfred was enough to fill a bag full of candy
Martha and Bruce would talk shit in front of Thomas' faux philanthropist friends, but they were on wildly different spectrums
Martha, whispering: You see that man, Brucie? He sold his soul to greed. He's a worm of a human and his morals are rotten. That's why his eyes are dead
Bruce: haha, he's balding at 25
Martha, Alfred, and Bruce cooking beef stroganoff, syriniki, borscht, and Bruce's absolute favorite- pirozhki.
Martha also played the piano and LOVED Swan Lake so, so much. It was the one song that calmed Bruce during night terrors.
When he reaches eight, it all stops.
He eventually reconnects with his Russian roots in his 20s, when he's in college and his literature teacher shares a DISRESPECTFULLY incorrect opinion about one of Dostoevsky's works.
His teacher scoffed, " Well. Didn't know we had a Russian citizen here. "
" Not a citizen, but I AM a Russian descendent. My mother was an immigrant. That's kind of how America was formed. It's a pretty significant thing that happened."
Imagine you're a Gotham criminal and Batman starts muttering things about you in Russian. Somehow that's even more intimidating than anything he does.
" I can't believe they're more afraid of someone who doesn't speak English than a guy who beats up people dressed as a bat."
Alfred hums, sloooowly pulling away the vodka cereal Bruce made. " I can't imagine why. You're the poster child for mental health, sir."
" Not funny, papachka"
" For you."
When Dick is brought into the nest, Bruce struggles a bit with showing his affections; He only has money to offer, but Dick is happily uninterested in that, and seeks Bruce out instead.
BRUCE ABSOLUTELY SPENDS AN ENTIRE NIGHT TRYING TO PERFECT HIS MOTHER'S BAKLAVA FOR DICK!!
yes he's supposed to be on patrol. No, he doesn't care, Jim. It's all worth it when Dick takes a single bite and he has stars in his eyes and vines his little but strong arms around him, " this is PERFECT! Thank you so much, dad"
Air freezes in his blood, " ... Of course, ptichka."
He absolutely uses russian proverbs all the time (mostly when his children need to be reprimanded and reminded that making jokes is illegal when they're on duty)
JASON AND BRUCE FIGHTING OVER TRANSLATIONS AND CONTEXT IN ENGLISH ADAPTATIONS OF SLAVIC LITERATURE!
" PAPI, THAT'S NOT WHAT THEY MEANT TO SAY!"
" MISKHA I'M SO GRATEFUL YOUR GRANDMA ISN'T HERE, BECAUSE SHE'D DIE AGAIN IF SHE HEARD YOU SAY THAT!"
Damian 100000% prides himself on knowing russian and communicating with Bruce the smoothest.
It becomes a competition soon enough. Bruce is SO tired but the way they butcher words is funny, so he just pretends they're right.
The League finds out when Bruce snaps and calls Hal Cyka in a low, angry mutter while stomping away from his stupidity. " ... Bless you? What did he call me?"
Diana, struggling so hard not to laugh. " He said you were a genius."
" Huh. Had no idea he was French."
Meanwhile Clark is losing HIS shit because wow, Bruce's russian might be the hottest thing he ever heard. Please, this dork would absolutely try to learn Russian and talk to Bruce more.
He's absolutely horrible with it but Bruce is just very excited. He definetly chuckles (which. Wow. Clark couldn't even make him GRIN 3 weeks ago) " You just asked me if I sleep with my dentist."
" ...Oh. I...Was trying to ask you for drinks. You can kill me right now. Please?"
" Maybe another time, solnyshko. Take me for a drink first."
Clark inhales. " oKaY thank yoU."

Eddie is wrongfully deemed guilty for a spree of murders throughout Hawkins- from Chrissy, to Fred, to Patrick, to Jason... blinding Max. And at first, Steve is just as angry as everyone else. All the evidence seems to point to him.
But the way Dustin, Lucas and Mike all talk about Eddie makes Steve look a little closer and... something is off. He can't tell what. He just knows that something about the whole thing isn't right. He tries to ask around, see if anyone else feels the same. No one does.
He wants to figure it out though. Robin encourages him to "seek the knowledge or whatever" so he starts doing everything he can to learn about law, about criminology. He ends up in school again, retaking his tests and finally going to college.
He becomes a pretty good investigator type. And he does everything he can to prove himself, moving up and up and up. He ends up working at the FBI, a special agent, one of the best.
By the time he's 30, he's finally established enough to choose a case. He chooses Eddie.
People think he's insane. Eddie is a problem prisoner, stuck in a cage all alone for safety reasons. He doesn't talk to anyone either, started refusing not too long ago. Even when cops turn up, he's always kept his mouth shut, no matter what angle they came at him with.
Steve just tells them to tell Eddie his full name. Eddie immediately agrees to see him and, before Steve can say hi, Eddie is asking about his old D&D kids. He wants to know if Suzie is real, if Dustin is still with her. He wants to know if Mike finally got his head out his ass or if Will the wise ever came home. He wants to know how Lucas' championship game went.
So Steve tells him. Spends the entire 'interview' getting Eddie updated. Because, as it turns out, he isn't allowed letters. Steve has to tell him everything and promises to try and get him his mail- it's his right, after all. Eddie thanks him, a lot, almost begs Steve to come back- to which, Steve laughs.
"I have to come back," Steve explained. "I'm the one who's going to get you exonerated."
When he comes back that next week, Eddie is pacing. He's excited to see Steve again. He tells Steve that he got his letters, all of them. He'd even been allowed to send his own letters out to the kids.
Steve doesn't beat around the bush though. He wants Eddies side of the story. And, unsurprisingly, Eddies side doesn't make sense with the evidence. He has alibis- watertight alibis. It's impossible that Eddie killed any of them.
It begs the question, then, who really did it? But that's not Steves job. That's not what he cares about. He just needs to prove that it's not Eddie and he's going to do prove that there was never even any probable cause.
It doesn't help that when Steve tries to visit Eddie, he's always getting hit on, but he does eventually find a vital part of the puzzle. Just one, small little thing, and the paperwork for Eddies release is being filed.
Steve is only 33 and the reason he started down this career, the one goal he's had since the very beginning, is complete. Eddie is a free man! He's cleared of all charges!
He stays on Steves sofa for a while, struggling to get back up on his feet. And... if he moves up to Steves bed a month later... well. Let's just say Steve didn't keep visiting every week just for the pretty scenery.

Bruce opens the front door of the manor and Kon-El is standing on the steps in unassuming civilian clothes that don't look like they belong either on a farm or at a punk concert, a cheap duffel bag slung over his shoulder and his hands jammed tight into his pockets, body language unsettled and uncomfortable.
"I'll call Tim down," Bruce says, already resigned to putting up with the kid at dinner tonight and breakfast in the morning. Every time he shows up looking like this, Tim refuses to let him leave before a full twenty-four hours are up.
"Please don't," Kon says tightly, and Bruce . . . pauses. Looks at him more closely.
Processes.
There's a faint little unfamiliar scar on Kon's face. A thin white line splitting his left eyebrow, as if someone actually hit him hard enough to bleed. He's not wearing any earrings, and the scattered piercings that should be in his ears . . . aren't. There's one, but only one. His build is off. A little less brute strength in it; a little more flexibility. He's standing like he doesn't know how to fight.
And, again: the scar.
When and how did anyone actually cut him like that?
"'Don't'?" Bruce repeats, his eyes just barely narrowing.
"There were eighty-four pearls," Kon says, and Bruce's gut goes cold.
Tim didn't teach him that. Tim would never. None of them would ever. Even Jason was never angry or bitter or broken enough to compromise that code.
So someone else taught it to him.
"The doctor is out," Bruce replies by rote, perfectly neutral, and Kon's shoulders sag with . . . relief. He's relieved. He didn't know if Bruce would know what he was saying.
He wanted Bruce to know what he was saying.
"I'm sorry," Kon says, swallowing roughly. "I fucked up real bad this time, B."
That's not something Kon's ever called him. The look on his face isn't an expression Kon's ever directed at him.
This isn't Kon.
"Name," Bruce orders, just as perfectly neutral.
"Jackson Kyle," Kon mutters, his eyes slanting away guiltily. Bruce is in no way inattentive or oblivious enough to miss either Tim's middle name or Selina's last one in that answer, much less the guilt. "Technically."
"Technically?" Bruce asks, not even bothering with a pointed tone, and "Jackson's" mouth twists. He doesn't bring his eyes back to Bruce's face.
"That's not what you call me," he says.
"Inside," Bruce says, stepping back from the doorway. Jackson swallows again, visibly steeling himself, then steps across the threshold. Bruce doesn't ask why what "he" calls him is more his name than the technical answer is, and doesn't ask what "he" calls him either.
That's the whole damn point of that code phrase, after all.
"Report," Bruce orders as soon as he closes the door, and Jackson shifts his center of balance and stops standing like he doesn't know how to fight.
And meets Bruce's eyes again, too.
"Alternate reality," Jackson says, and sounds just like any one of them when the worst has happened. "Things went–bad. Level Omega, final phase. You ordered me to take the out. I said no, and you shoved me through anyway."
Of course he did, Bruce thinks.
Jackson would've died with that version of him, otherwise.
"Solo flight?" he checks without any actual hope for a merciful answer. Not if Jackson had to be forced to take the out.
"Yes, sir," Jackson says, his hands curling into fists at his sides and his mouth going tight. "Nightwing was already–it was solo."
Bruce doesn't imagine a version of himself that had to bury Dick.
That didn't have time to bury Dick, more than likely.
"Downstairs for decontamination, containment procedures, and questioning," he says. Jackson nods, short and efficient. He doesn't protest the precautions.
Maybe Kon would've, but Bruce doesn't actually know him well enough to know.
This version of the kid knows all about him, though, doesn't he.
He takes Jackson to his study. They don't run into Tim or Alfred on the way, and no one else is in the manor right now.
That's for the best.
Bruce looks at Jackson. Waits. Jackson glances at him, then to the grandfather clock.
Its hands move. Tactile telekinesis, obviously.
And 10:48.
Obviously.
The door to the cave opens.
So yes, Jackson knows all about him, and the manor, and the cave, and who knows what else.

Not Romeo, Not Juliet
Chapter 9: A Little Wild
Fandom: Red Hood
Pairing: Jason Todd x f!reader
Warnings: minor violence, angsty af Jason, semi-bad father Bruce Wayne
Summary: Dick blocked YN's number and Jason isn't please
Notes: so this story is turning out longer than I imagined and I'm pretty sure it's going to have a sequel; I know where I'm ending this one but so much is going to remain unresolved that I'm going to need a second part, also I think my favorite thing in this fic is Jason's crush on Annabeth Chase, it makes me laugh every time it comes up
If by chance I talk a little wild, forgive me; I had it from my father.
— HENRY VIII, ACT 1 SCENE 4
Jason had texted YN that night from the ER and she had said she would talk to him the next day but then she didn’t text him that whole day. He thought maybe she had been scared, worried, annoyed, a plethora of less than flattering thoughts filled his head, but she had never just disappeared on him so at school on Monday, when he wasn’t under the watchful eye of Dick, he tried to text her and found that her number had been blocked and he wasn’t able to unblock it. He held tight to his anger that day, using it for play practice, enough so that the director asked for him to stay after. He didn’t want to, he wanted to get home and punch his brother in the face before demanding he undo the block on YN’s number, but his director had been nothing but kind of supportive to him, so he stayed, keeping the rage locked down, eyes a striking green at the moment.
“How do your eyes do that color changing thing?” she asked him as he sat on the edge of the stage by her. He shrugged; fist clenched at his sides. She could see he wasn’t in the mood for her jokes, so she took a more serious tone. “I appreciate that whatever you are angry about you are using for act five, but you actually punched Matt and that wasn’t great.” Jason nodded, he knew that had been too much, but he honestly thought Matt was lucky it would just be a black eye and not a broken nose. “You want to talk about it, or should I just send you home to glower?”
“My brother is being an ass,” he said, glancing at her to see if she would harp on his language. She just nodded in understanding. “There’s this girl and he doesn’t like me seeing her because of who her dad is. She is great, but he says we don’t actually know her.” Jason didn’t know why his theater director was so easy to talk to, besides his therapist and YN she was the only person who actually seemed to listen to him, and he needed that. He needed someone to see him as he was, not his past or what he could be in the future but who he was right now. Dick didn’t understand that, couldn’t settle on who Jason was in this in-between world. He wasn’t Robin anymore, but he wasn’t whatever was coming next, he was just confused and somewhat lost. She seemed to get that, and she probably saw a lot of kids like him wander through, trying to make sense of their lives, maybe that’s why she always knew what to say.
“Sounds like he has his reasons, they’re not good ones at all, but maybe you should talk to him about those reasons,” she suggested. Jason hung his head, shaking it. “Look, I have seen your file, it’s a very thick packet of papers, they describe a kid who came from a less than happy home life to become a child of one of the richest men in the world. Then you stopped being Jason Todd and because almost a carbon copy of Dick Grayson, your older brother. Bruce Wayne knew what he wanted in a son and you seemed to give that too him for a while. I can’t exactly say what happened after you were expelled from Gotham Magnet Academy, but I know that the fight you got in wasn’t your fault. There was nothing to suggest that you would attack anyone…”
“It was my fault,” he said softly. Jason hated thinking about that day, the day that Bruce had probably given up on him. Sure he had kept him, he was still Robin, but he had been pulled from school, forced into home school, all because Jason had refused to believe he was wrong. Bruce didn’t always know best, Jason was smart despite what his adoptive father thought. He knew that Penguin had an illegitimate son in his school and Jason would prove it, get the kid to talk. He had been a classmate of his in science, quiet, but with a mean streak that even Jason didn’t fully find out about until he found the kid cutting lines onto a girl in an empty classroom. She had broken up with baby Penguin after only dating a month, which in terms of 8th grade relationships, was a long time, and he hadn’t taken it well. Jason had stopped him, saving the girl, who had run out of school that day and never came back, never told anyone why Jason had put that boy in the hospital. Jason had been expelled, that boy had been proven by Bruce to not have any relation to Penguin, just a slight resemblance in how cruel his eyes were, that Jason took as proof. It was the same recklessness that had led Jason to chasing the Joker on his own. Led to him being cornered while Joker beat him to death in that empty funhouse. Jason still wasn’t sure whether Bruce left him to die or not. Jason was a ticking time bomb, maybe Dick was right to block YN from his life. He wouldn’t be any good for her.
“Jason, you were 14, kids get into fights and that kid was bad news if you ask me,” she said. Jason looked at her, how did she know so much? She smiled at him. “You’re a good kid Jason Todd and you’ll be a good man someday if you let yourself heal from whatever trauma you experienced. Right now, you’re holding onto the pain, and its going to take a long time, but you have to let it go and let yourself move past it.” Jason nodded slowly, still curious why his theater teacher knew so much about everything, but he was late, and he knew Dick was still tracking him. He said thanks and departed for home.
Dick was waiting for him when he got back, on the phone, and Jason’s blood ran cold when he heard what the conversation.
“Bruce, I have no idea who that guy in the helmet is,” Dick said, clearly agitated. Jason went up to the loft, pretending to do homework, but listening to every word his brother said. He was guessing the other side of the conversation, but it sounded like Bruce wasn’t easily convinced about Dick’s innocence.
“He used smoke bombs; you can literally buy ten of those in the Narrows for three dollars…”
“What are you talking about? Jason didn’t even like red…”
“Jason is dead Bruce, remember? You left him in the ground to rot…”
Jason still his fake writing, hating the reminder that his father didn’t really want him to be alive, had decided that instead of going to the league, which had paid Joker to be a distraction in Gotham that night, and make them right the wrong they had created he had wanted to leave him be. He heard a deep sigh downstairs.
“I know you’re listening, just come down and we can talk,” Dick called. Jason walked down the stairs, plopping on the couch. “So, I’m guessing you noticed I blocked YN’s number…”
“Ya and I really would like to know why,” Jason asked. Dick sighed again, the sound becoming second nature since Jason had moved in. “She isn’t dangerous, she just wants to be in theater, go to Gotham U, become a teacher. She’s not some greedy villain like her dad.”
“She could be one day though. We’re all just one bad day from being criminals,” Dick said.
“Yes, I know, Bruce and fear toxin showed us that,” Jason said, remembering that day quite well. Bruce had given him a scar across his stomach that until his dip in the Lazarus Pit had been a reminder that the Batman was always one step ahead of them.
“And you’re not exactly in the best place to be dating,” Dick continued. “That’s rich considering that when you thought I was dating some girl in my theater group you were giddy about it,” Jason shot back.
“That’s because when you talked about her I could see it wasn’t serious, you didn’t really have too deep of feelings for whoever you made up…”
“Annabeth, and I love Annabeth, she ever becomes real I am marrying her, Percy be damned,” Jason muttered, folding his arms. Dick ignored him.
“I saw it when I walked in on you and YN the other night, you really do love her. And I’m not watching you become Bruce with Selina,” his big brother finished. Jason paused, thinking back to what he knew of Selina Kyle, Catwoman, and sometimes Bruce’s lover. She had been the only person to make Batman lose his advantage, always getting away, sometimes staying around, but ultimately leaving again. The last time she had been in Gotham Jason was maybe 13 and he just remembered Bruce being upset about her leaving.
“She wasn’t that bad for Bruce,” Jason argued.
“You didn’t see them when they started, all the damage it did to Bruce and to Gotham. I was cleaning up messes for months because Bruce refused to do anything about her. Then she leaves and I’m sure you saw Bruce trying his best, but he was devastated, he was nearly useless. I was patrolling all of Gotham and Bludhaven to make up for his lack of care,” Dick said. “I know Alfred was shielding you from it, guiding you in that time, and I’m glad he did, you didn’t need to see your hero like that. But Jason, I will be damned before I see another criminal take one of us down like that.” Jason shook his head.
“I understand what you’re trying to do Dick but you can’t. You can’t just assume she is like Selina, who at the time all that shit went down, was a hardened criminal with years of built up anger and hate towards the city. YN isn’t like that and you keeping her from me, someone who wants to help her never become that, isn’t going to help,” he argued.
“I won’t risk it Jason, I can’t lose you again,” he said. Jason felt his heart tighten at that. His brother cared about him, he knew that, but how deeply he didn’t think he’d ever know. And maybe Dick was right to keep him away from YN, maybe she would become a criminal, or more likely, Jason would be the one who hurt her. He was reckless still, just like he had been in middle school, with Joker, even at the club the other night. He hadn’t thought things through, and he got lucky no one had been hurt, how often would that happen? What if YN was in the line of fire? What if she was holding the gun? He sat back and shook his head.
“Fine,” he said softly. Maybe he would give it time, see if maybe he just thought he was right again and that this feeling wasn’t what he thought it was.
He kept it up that whole week, but nothing changed. He felt empty when he couldn’t call or message YN, hated going to practice when he knew he wouldn’t be able to send her something stupid Jackson did, or she couldn’t send him stories about how bad her male lead was. He couldn’t tell her how he was lost right now, all the new information about Bruce, the digging into his past, how all of that was making him feel incredibly listless and apathetic. He felt like he’d never care about anything again. Then he left practice on Friday evening and sitting on a bench in the front courtyard was YN, with the seniors stomping right towards her.

"It's stereotyping black people to headcanon Jason Todd as black because he's temperamental and violent!!!"I cannot fucking stand this argument against afrolatino Jason because it's so easy to realize it's bad faith critisism since nobody who says this awknowledges WHY he has those traits-He literally got brutalized and then blown up by a supervillain at 15 and even before that he had deal with either an emotionally abusive dad OR his dad being a good person but having him forced out of his life while in both cases his mom overdosed when he was young so he had to live on the streets when he was just a little boy.He has every right to be angry and mean because he was a good kid who did his best but the world was against him anyway and his brutality is potrayed as morally grey instead of him being full on evil. The writing quality for the latter is debatable but that was very much the intention!!You guys love talking about how we should only pay attention to Duke and the Fox Family if we want black Batfam members as if there isn't tons of content of Duke and Jason being black bros both in the adoptive sense and as in best friends and when most afrolatino Jason truthers have Duke as one of their fave's so they make a lot of solo content of him too and NOBODY ELSE talks about the Fox Family at all except a very small part of the fandom but apperantly, they only matter to you when it's time to guiltrip actual irl black people for fucking headcanons and NONE OF YOU speak on Kory's black-coding since her creation or how Babs and Selina have multiple black versions
If you can't see someone say they want a character to be black without pulling an 'Ackstually, here's why they shouldn't be!!!' with something that has nothing to do with why they actually see them that way, highly consider not saying anything at all and wonder where you get off lecturing black people on our own history. And that's just the thing, black Jason was started by black people and we're still almost always the ones posting him and the reason we did and do is that he acts so much like irl afrolatino men and there's a surprisingly high number of elements in his story that fit a black latino narrative-Black people having culture is not 'stereotypical' and with full offense to nonblack DC fans, quit barking about what we should be offended by and instead start paying us reperations with your ancestors money since it's y'all's fault we even have stereotypes to begin with

I read your pinned Jason post and just wanted to comment on how smart and compassionate he was while also being emotional and occasionally brazen, and how his negative traits were exaggerated to make him appear destructive and doomed from the start. But one thing that got completely overlooked was how mature he was for a kid his age. Like he was a parentified kid taking care of him mom, he never once blamed her or Willis for their misfortune. Hell, Robin-Jason’s morals barely encompass petty crime, addiction, etc. as “evil” traits. Nowadays, this obsession with portraying Jason as a completely immature, hair-trigger, child in hysterics, and the emphasis on having "daddy issues" without directly clarifying what they are and where they stem from; is so dirty. it's as if the writers looked at fanon's soulless (also classist) interpretations of him and called it a day. Their misunderstanding of poverty and crime prevents them from offering nuanced perspectives on the subject (also because utrh was released during a spike in the War on Drugs era), so there exist a million canon and fanon works of the bats explaining poverty to the homeless guy. (this is also not me saying he's even been right as RH, but the fact that they refuse to add any nuance to the conflict outside of Bruce irritates me.)
perfectly put anon. HEAVY on the differing perspectives of what constitues as 'evil' crime robin jason had in comparison to, for example, bruce. he was an incredibly complicated and mature boy who was a victim to classist writing in every single aspect of his story. even after the introduction of tim drake and how he was basically the exact opposite of everything that made jason jason you get the feel of, oh, so even in death he is ridiculed for who he was.
'Their misunderstanding of poverty and crime prevents them from offering nuanced perspectives on the subject'
this is so real. i think a very recent example would be the 'cheer' story for batman urban legends, which, to my dismay, is often said to be the best jason writing in recent years (to which, uhm, task force z, hello!) because of how the entire situation with the boy and his father was handled. obviously the father was in the wrong, and jason knew that — but suddenly, all the compassion and reasoning jason has for being a character like the red hood is completely pushed away until AFTER he kills the guy. he mentions something along the lines of having orphaned a child and he can't believe he's done this or something and i was sat there like.. what on earth! not to mention the atrocious young jason writing which shows him contemplating murder(?!)
dc has this staggering inability to separate the idea of poverty with crime and again, it is almost laughable how it is not even hidden in subtext. it is very obviously there. children of drug addicts and criminals MUST be evil, for some reason, no we will not explain why.
i agree with you in that the real tragedy of red hood is that he's become a consequence of bruce as opposed to batmans mission. when he was first introduced dc were setting him up to be, what i believe, a permanent spot in the gotham rouge gallery. meaning he would have been developed and stayed separate as his own anti-hero for gotham, being the ultimate enemy that can never be defeated by batman and alike BECAUSE they are doomed to be on opposite sides of a solution.
that obviously never stuck. and now we get jason in stories he doesn't need to be in, or written terribly all in order to emphasise his broken relationship with the other bats. which, maybe, could be done well, but most the time, isn't. red hood aka angry red bat 'daddy issues' extraordinaire jason todd.
maybe one day we'll get a writer who truly loves what jason can mean to a place like gotham and respects his origin but also how that would affect him into adulthood. one day.

I saw where requests were open and you cleared out some.
I was wondering if you’d be okay for me to resubmit my dark/yandere batboys requests.
If you dont feel like doing a request like that it’s perfectly okay, this is your blog and your time so don’t worry and think I won’t be on your blog if you don’t. It’s all up to you, I just don’t want to take up you inbox if so.
Just let me know
Love ya!
- angst lover 🖤
This Unruly Mess I've Made - Dick Grayson
Tumblr media
Pairing: Dick Grayson x gn! reader
Genre: angst, hurt/comfort
Word Count: 1.9k
Summary: while Dick Grayson has always been your ball of sunshine, Nightwing hasn't, and on a particularly bad night, you see just how terrifying the vigilante really is
CW: violence, fighting, Dick accidentally hits reader (mistakes them for someone else), yelling, Dick says some pretty mean things, angst, groveling, some hurt/comfort
this is the third time ive had to rewrite Dick's part (also why this took so long!!) i kinda struggle with writing yandere/darker themes but i am trying! im sorry if this isn't quite what you wanted, but i was honestly stumped on how to write this for Dick.
also since these turned out so long i am going to separate them (also im thinking about doing a Tim version + am definitely doing a Bruce version)
Jason Version
————
It’s dark and cold, but that’s typical for a night in Gotham. The rain is coming down hard, dripping down your face and soaking you to the bone. You squint into the darkness, searching desperately for your boyfriend.
His words echo in your mind. Stay put, I’ll be right back.
He had clenched your shoulders just a little too hard, his jaw set a little too tight. You understand why—if the roles were reversed, if you had received a call from him in the middle of the night, his voice strained and teary, you would be angry too. If you knew someone was following him, stalking him like some sort of prey, you’d be equally as mad.
He was at your side within a minute of the call, swooping in to save you. He had gotten you to safety, making sure you were okay, before diving back off into the night.
That was almost an hour ago, and you couldn’t stand in the rain under the overhang of the convenience store any longer. You had tried to call him, but he wasn’t answering. So, you set out to find him yourself.
How hard could it be to find a vigilante dressed in all black in the dead of night in Gotham?
Very hard, apparently, because you’ve been stumbling down the wet streets for what seems like hours with no sign of Nightwing.
Your clothes stick to your skin, every inch of you is wet and cold. You try to make your way back to your apartment, but the streets don’t look familiar to you anymore and you only grow more desperate with each passing moment.
There’s a bright orange light up ahead, so bright you feel like you’re imagining it. And it’s warm, warm like the sun. For a minute you’re not sure if it’s already day or not, but when you get closer, you see the roaring fire in front of you.
There’s figures in front of it, casting shadows across the street in a way that can only be described as menacingly. You squint, the light so intense it hurts your eyes. You can just barely make out the figure of your boyfriend up ahead, beating up some goons.
Someone else is with him, someone big. You can’t tell if it’s Bruce or Jason from this angle, but you don’t care. You’re so overwhelmed from the cold and your misery that you’re running to Dick before you even realize what you’re doing.
Dick’s just knocked out the last goon on him before he sees another, smaller one emerging from the darkness. Running straight towards him. The adrenaline has his heart beating so fast that it’s painful, his vision tunnelling, his instincts kicking in.
Just as you get to his sides, Dick reacts. His arm flies out, hitting you in the chest and knocking you flat on your ass. The wind is knocked out of you from the hit, shockwaves being sent up your tailbone from the impact.
You look up at him with teary, confused eyes. Dick stares back, equally confused, pupils blown. No, not Dick. Nightwing.
You expect him to react, to help you up, to apologize.
“What are you doing here?”
There’s not enough breath left in your body to speak, but he takes that as a sign to keep talking.
“I told you to stay put! Do you even know how much danger you’re putting yourself in, here? Putting me in?” His voice is gravelly and angry, a tone that you’ve never heard before. “You could have ruined everything!”
“I-I’m sorry,” you wheeze, tears rolling down your cheeks.
Jason’s ears perk up at the yelling, and you see him start to approach from over Dick’s shoulder. You don’t want him to see you guys argue, but that went out the window when Dick started yelling at you in public.
“Sorry doesn’t mean anything! Why can’t you just listen to basic instructions, y/n? Why do you have to make every single thing so fucking difficult on me?”
You flinch from his words. Actually flinch. He’s never spoken to you like this before. He’s never been this angry before. His chest rises and falls quickly, the adrenaline taking over completely. He takes a step towards you but you scramble back, your hands scraping on the pavement.
He tries to step forwards again but a hand catches his collar. He spins around, facing his younger brother. “What the hell are you doing?”
Jason shoves his chest hard. “No, what the hell are you doing? Can’t you see how fucking terrifying you’re being right now? Look at y/n,” he gestures to you, and when the older boy refuses to look, he shoves him again. “Look!”
“Stay out of this, Hood,” he shoves him back. “It’s none of your damn business.”
They keep arguing, voices rising with their adrenaline. Neither one of them are paying any mind to you, too busy shoving each other and getting in each other’s faces to look at you.
You take this opportunity to scramble to your feet, forcing yourself to take slow and silent steps until you’re far enough away to start running. You don’t look back, feet pounding the pavement.
Dick knows he’s out of line, he knows the adrenaline and the aggression are consuming him the way they’ve always consumed Batman. But he can’t stop it. Not tonight, not when you were in danger not once, but twice. He knows he’s spiralling, losing the control he’s held onto so tightly, but he can’t stop it now.
And Jason. Jason stepping in the way and shoving him? He can’t let that stand. And even if he knows he’s wrong, he’s not going to admit it and give the younger boy the satisfaction.
Their fight only gets worse, spiralling out of control. Dick giving into the adrenaline, Jason giving into his urges. It gets so bad that even Tim and Damian are scared. It gets so bad that all of a sudden there’s a familiar thud behind them and they both freeze in their tracks.
Dick knows even before he turns around that he’ll be face to face with Batman. Still, he does it, and the disappointed look his father is shooting him is enough to drain the fight from his body. Waves of clarity wash over him, and the events from the night start to register.
Bruce says nothing, his look is enough. The anger in his eyes says it all. Cave. Now.
The boys trudge after him, finding their own respective ways back to Wayne manor. Dick can’t help but tug on his hair and groan. What is this unruly mess I’ve made?
————
There’s bruises on your ass and chest. A large, long one across your chest in the exact shape of Dick’s forearm, and a big round one on your ass from where you hit the ground.
You can’t help but stare at them in the mirror, the ugly purple colour only making you more emotional. You want to scream, you want to cry, you want to hit him.
But you don’t do any of that. Instead, you step into the shower and stand under the hot water and close your eyes. All you want is to forget, for last night to have not happened. But it did. And nothing you can do will change that.
Dick feels horrible. How could he have said any of that to you? He didn’t even help you up after he hit you, accident or not. The thought of his own actions make him sick.
Bruce spent the better part of the night lecturing both him and Jason, and even after Jason left, he kept yelling at Dick. He couldn’t bring himself to argue or defend himself. How could he? He hurt you. He continued to hurt you. If Jason wasn’t there…he hates to think what might have happened.
He slams his phone down. This is the 37th time he’s called this morning, and still no answer. After the fifth call, they just started going straight to voicemail. Even his texts say they’re not being delivered.
He sighs, knowing he has no choice other than to head to your apartment.
You know before you even open the door that Dick is the one knocking. He keeps his touch on the wood soft, as if he’s scared to startle you. Which he is.
You don’t open the door. You look at him through the peephole, and he looks almost as rough as you feel. You sigh.
“Y/n,” his voice is soft, raspy. “I know you’re there. I-I can hear you breathing.”
You slide down the other side of the door, leaning your head against the hardwood.
“You don’t have to talk, and I know you owe me nothing but please—just, listen.”
Your heart aches and you’re not sure what to do. You want to listen to him and you want him to make everything okay again, but you don’t know if it ever can after last night.
“I fucked up. God, y/n, I fucked up real bad. I-I don’t know what was going through my head. I was being so stupid and I was on edge and the adrenaline—I was so worried about you.”
A few tears fall down your face at his words.
“I didn’t mean to hit you, and I think you know that. I would never hit you. I would never lay a damn finger on you like that.”
You wipe the tears on your forearm, your nose stuffy from crying.
“I know that I can’t take back what I said. I know that you’ll never forget that—fuck, I’ll never forget that. But I just need you to know that I didn’t mean it. I never meant any of that.”
Your breath is shaky and it takes everything you have to not start sobbing loudly. You clench your knees together, shoving your head between them. You know that he’s being sincere, and you know that he didn’t mean what he said.
“Y/n, you are the love of my life. I mean it—you are it for me. There’s never going to be someone else. And I need you to know that this will never happen again. I will never let this happen again.”
His voice cracks with every word, he’s so close to tearing up, but he won’t let himself. This isn’t his moment to break down. This is yours.
He doesn’t know what else to say, he doesn’t know what he could possibly add to make this better. Just as he goes to speak again, the door swings open and you’re face to chest with him.
“Y/n…”
“I-I don’t really know what to feel right now,” you admit. “A part of me is really scared of you, but I love you so damn much and—and I think as long as Nightwing stays away from me, we can make this work.”
He nods. “Whatever you want, baby. You name it and it’s yours.”
“Thank you.”
“Are you okay if I hug you?” His blue eyes meet yours, “we don’t have to if you’re not up for it. I understand that you don’t really trust me right now and—”
You practically jump on him, wrapping your arms around him. Dick accepts you with open arms, squeezing you so hard he lifts you off of your feet. You wrap your legs around his waist, nuzzling your face into his shoulder.
He holds you, gently bouncing you up and down in a motion that’s so soothing you almost fall asleep on his shoulder. “I love you, y/n. I love you more than anything.”

Hey dude your writing inspires me a lot so I was wondering if I could request a tigerfreak hurt/comfort?
Of course you could! Always dare for hurt/comfort!
Jason’s pretty sure they have to break up.
Not that they’re dating.
Only Munson keeps hinting about it, high on his own supply and the idea that he (probably, actually, really) will graduate this year. He’s been talking about a road trip with his band while Jason hastily dresses after they fuck, or in between puffs in the back of the Jeep, unwrapping chocolate bars and kissing Jason with candy and weed on his breath. About how he’s tired of people asking him if he’s going places. He wants to go places. Deserves to.
And he deserves better than Jason, though this he doesn’t say in so many words. But Jason gets the hint. Kind of wants to snap at Munson to just do it already.
But why would Munson do it when he already has a sure thing, an easy fuck practically every night. Certainly that’s why Jason keeps crawling in the window of the trailer long after Mr Munson gave him a key and told him to stop almost breaking the damn window.
Jason sticks with what he knows. He knows he comes over too often, so the window makes it feel spontaneous. Not like he lies awake in bed when they’re apart, wishing he was curled up in Munson’s arms in his too-small bed. Not like he can’t watch Thundercats anymore without Eddie. Not like he’s not sure if he’s strong enough to break it off like Eddie so clearly wishes Jason would.
He's going to be stuck in this same town with what he knows, while Munson drives off to something better, and Jason's known that from the start.
It’s what every couple in town is going through, deciding whether to break up before college or stay together.
Not that they’re a couple.
Things just get mixed up in Jason’s head sometimes. Sometimes when Eddie says to stay it sounds like go. Sometimes when Jason wants to keep going it comes out as frustrated tears. And when he wants to tell Eddie he loves him, that he wishes Eddie would never go anywhere he can’t follow it comes out like…
“That’s the last time,” Jason says roughly, swiping tears on the back of his hand.
“What?”
“Graduation is tomorrow,” Jason hates how tight his voice is, hates how close he is to tears so he forces it out angry and pressured. “So that was the last time.”
“But…” Eddie sputters.
“Come on, don’t make this harder than it has to be,” Jason slips the trailer window open and starts to put one foot through. “Oh. Wait.”
Eddie hasn’t moved from the bed, sheets still tangled around his waist. And Jason can’t believe this is the last time he’ll see him this way. Maybe in a few years the memory will soften and seem sweet. But right now it’s razor sharp, like a blade in a bar of chocolate.
Jason digs the key out of his pocket and leaves it on Munson's dresser. He almost wants to yank his 'Hawkins High Honor Student' keychain off of it, it makes him cringe in the worst way. But he doesn't want to stay here any longer, there's no way he can stand to be here any longer.
He slips out the window, not bothering to look back, and walks down to the end of the trailer park, rounding the corner and heading to where his car is hidden.
And he feels fine, just fine. He swipes his face on the back of his hand and unlocks the Jeep, crawls inside, slams his hands on the wheel until they hurt, closes the door and screams because he feels fine. He feels just fine.
It's not raining, but there's a hint of it in the air, petrichor and car exhaust and Jason's exhaustion.
And then there's a knock at the window.
"I'm moving the car, I swear, just hold your horses Mr. Roberts, I-" Jason scowls, wiping what definitely isn't tears on the back of his hand.
"Jay," It's Eddie, hastily dressed in jeans and one of Mr. Munson's flannels. "Let me in."
"I'm going, I just," Jason sucks in a breath.
"Let me in, angel," Eddie knocks again. "Come on. You would never leave me like that."
"Fuck you, what does that mean?"
"It means you would never leave all calm and cool like that," Eddie shook his head.
"Fuck you."
Eddie actually smiles, and it's like tasting Easter chocolate after a long empty lent. Jason wishes he wasn't so weak. Jason wishes he wasn't so in love with this boy it hurt.
Jason's arm aches, actually hurts, as he rolls down the window, "I don't have anything of yours in my car. I can look and send it-"
Eddie cups Jason's jaw, swipes his thumb across Jason's cheeks, "What happened?"
It takes Jason a beat, but then he scowls, "I told you, that was just the last time."
"Are you tired of me?" Eddie asks.
"No," The word really is too easy to say. "That's just... it's just the last time."
"Why?"
"B-because," Jason jerks his head back, "It just is, okay? Fuck, you've been talking about leaving for weeks. What do you want me to write it in the sky? I fucking understand it...."
"I was... I wanted you to come with me," Eddie blinks, "Did I not ask you?"
"What?" Jason croaks.
"I-"
Eddie's cut off when the sky opens up, pouring rain down on him, and through the open window. They both yelp, and Eddie yanks at the back door until Jason lets him in, rolling the window up and scrambling. As soon as Eddie's inside the car, he pulls at Jason's arm until he joins Eddie in the backseat. He's too shocked to do anything else, frozen by Eddie's admission.
"I wanted you to come with me," Eddie practically has to yell to be heard over the storm, "Before you leave for college. I swear to God, I... I wasn't trying to rush you. I want all the time with you that I can get."
Jason's just frozen, blinking with lashes wet from rain and tears.
"I fucking love you," Eddie yells, "Please, don't do this right now. We still have time before you have to leave me. Just..."
Jason scrambles into Eddie's lap, pressing kisses to his throat, wanting to stop the sweet words even as he can't bear not to hear them.
"I thought you wanted me to break it off. I don't want to leave you, not now, not for college," Jason shouts, "You kept talking about the trip, over and over-"
"I was trying to ask you. Clearly I failed," But Eddie didn't sound too upset when he pulled Jason close.
"I love you," Jason yells, "I love you too."
"I know," Eddie yells right back, "I fucking love you and I know."
They're both grinning, happiness that can't even be dimmed by Mr. Roberts knocking on the window and telling them not to yell all fucking night.

If you asked the batkids (generations Dick to Damian) who Bruce’s favorite child is, what would they answer?
Ugh, you asked about what they'd say, rather than what they believe. This is a much harder question!
(I'm including Babs and Duke anyways. I will figure Duke out through answering asks and you can't stop me!)
I'm not sure if ANY of these kids would have a set answer. It would vary so much based on who their audience was, and what period of their life the question was asked.
Dick - Why are you so cruel??? Unless you are a Titan, or maybe Babs, you aren't getting a truthful answer. He's going to answer whatever would be best for his siblings to overhear. And he's going to respect you less. Don't ask him this question. As for what he actually thinks - I ... I have no clue. Not him. He probably realizes it isn't Damian, and is angry about that. Other than that, I don't know! While Jason was dead (and before his death) he almost certainly thought Jason was. But now Cass and Tim are in the mix. A mystery.
Babs - She's been an outside observer for all these kids, so I'm guessing she'd think it was Jason. Bruce was gentle and openly affectionate in ways he wasn't with the others for both Dick and Jason, but with Jason, he did it without prompting. I think she'd be disgusted with the question and wouldn't answer, though.
Jason - Either Dick or, "He doesn't care about any of us, we're just cannon fodder." I suspect love may be boolean for him - either there or not, so 'favourite' might not be meaningful.
Tim - Okay, he could say anyone. Because he is NOT answering this question truthfully. No. That is not a form of vulnerability he could handle. You are getting managed. In reality, he thinks it's either Dick or Jason (depending on when this question is asked), but he is doing SO MUCH PROJECTING, you guys. He's basing it off what he saw before he joined the family, what he secretly feels about his siblings, and complex mental models of his dad that are only semi-connected to reality.
Steph - She'd say Cass, out of loyalty. And to make sure people don't forget Cass. Steph saw such a distorted version of Bruce - he was at his worst when interacting with her and Tim together, which is how he usually interacted with her. And she saw very little of Dick or Jason. My closest guess for her actual opinion is, "I HOPE it's not Tim. Surely he can do better than THAT, right?"
Cass - Cass MIGHT say herself? Especially if she was teasing a little. If she was trying to be serious, I think she would need to know context. Favourite to patrol with? Tim. Favourite to bring to galas? Cass or Dick. (He enjoys watching her, and appreciates how well Dick handles them.) Etc. I'm not sure she would understand the idea of a general favourite, since those aren't really a real thing? People are more complex than that.
Damian - early Damian of course says, "I am his ONLY child and am superior in every way." Later Damian would probably still say himself, in most situations. As for who he THINKS is the favourite? I'm not sure if he thinks of Dick as 'Bruce's Child'. Dick is an adult, and raised Damian. Sure, Dick calls himself Damian's brother, but he isn't competition. Jason isn't shown favouritism in any way Damian can recognize, Cass isn't around, and Steph and Babs don't claim to be family. So that leaves Tim, and later Duke. And I think he is CONSTANTLY keeping a running tally of who is currently doing better in the cut-throat 'Bruce's Favourite' and 'Dick's Favourite' competitions.
Duke - Duke missed most of the drama. All he has is the current relationships to go on. Ignoring everything but his own continuity, post-Flashpoint (because Damian did not go off on his own as a young teen. That's unacceptable), I suspect that he'd think he had it pretty good. Dick and Tim have so much responsibility, and always seem insecure about how well they're doing. Bruce fights with Jason and Damian a lot. And Cass is rarely there. Duke isn't sure which relationship is BRUCE'S favourite, but he knows that he definitely prefers his own relationship with Bruce over everyone else's.

for the ask game - JayTim obviously!! or, if that's been asked already, maybe JayRoy?
YESSSSSSSS okay I'm gonna do both ships, because neither has been asked yet!
We're going to start with Jaytim though, because obviously I ship it 😂
What made you ship it?
There was a fic by Timmyjaybird that I read that had unrequited Jaytim (different main pairing with Tim), and their dynamic piqued my interest. I decided to click into the ship page, read strange fear I ain't felt for years by sister, and then it was over for me. If you know me, you'll know I always say that all it takes is reading one good fic for a ship and I'll start shipping it. Plus I'm a Tim kinnie and Jason is so so hot, so theres definitely a projection character/attraction character thing going on
What are your favorite things about the ship?
All the ways I can play with them. They can be fucked up, unstable, unwell, obsessive (on both sides). They can be bitter and angry and fall into each other (which I tend to favor in longer works). They can be soft and sweet and gentle and forgiving. They can be blushing and nervous and uncertain. They can be petty and annoyed and really into riling each other up. It ALWAYS works. And also, there's something I find so fascinating about the way they accidentally helped create each other. Tim as Robin happened mostly because of Jason, and Jason becoming Red Hood and going after Bruce gets set into motion because he finds out about Tim. They're a feedback loop and neither of them is happy with the results. Okay, I have to stop here before this turns into a dissertation. Or before I spoil a future fic which I already had to erase a spoiler for so next question
Is there an unpopular opinion you have about the ship?
A little bit? I think my only opinion that some people disagree with (but isn't necessarily unpopular) is that I don't like the whole Pit Madness thing. When Jason came back he had a fucked up plan, and he wasn't entirely in his right mind, but he justified it. He was doing the wrong thing for the right reasons when it came to Tim (being mad at Bruce because he's going to get Tim killed and then he almost kills Tim to prove the point). It's something I explore in my fics at almost every opportunity, because I think it's too easy to let Jason off the hook by blaming it on the pit. It also frustrates me because it doesn't really matter whether or not he meant to hurt Tim, because he did. And I like watching him take responsibility for the knowledge that he wanted to hurt Tim, and being forced to confront the realization that his logic at the time involved a lot of mental gymnastics, and grapple with the idea that it might not be a thing he can fix and that even if it is, Tim probably shouldn't forgive him, and definitely shouldn't get involved with him. Okay, halfway through writing this I realized that I definitely have an unpopular opinion about them, but I'm not erasing all that, so you get both. I hate the nickname babybird. I know. I know! I hear you all disagreeing with me. I see you all throwing tomatoes at me. I just don't like it! I don't think it's cute. I like little red or little bird much better, personally.
Okay I'm also gonna do JayRoy but this is getting long, so I'm gonna put the rest under the cut.
JayRoy: I ship it!!!
What made you ship it?
I think one of my friends told me they knew it was a ship and they thought it was cute sometimes and I checked it out? I've actually been reading Jayroy since before I read Jaytim. And as previously stated, all it takes is one good fic.
What are your favorite things about the ship?
Honestly I just love their relationship so much. Roy is one of the few people Jason ever really allows to get close to him after becoming Red Hood (if we're ignoring the whole being brought back into the batfamily thing which I have a Lot of Opinions about, but that's a story for another time, anyone reading this can feel free to send me an ask if you want the rant), and I really just love the way they understand each other and are there for each other. I also love that they're assholes to each other. Roy is so irritating and Jason should hate it but he can't and he doesn't because Roy is too endearing and genuine. It's sweet. It's the angry one and the sunshine one.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have about the ship?
I guess? I think they work better as friends who also sleep together. Like, I don't necessarily think they should date. I think that if they ever ended up in a long-term relationship, it would be because Jason realizes he hasn't slept with anyone else in years and they've been partners for even longer than that. But when it comes to things that healthy relationships should have, I don't really see them having it. It's not healthy to start dating someone because you realize you already are after not talking about it for years. I think too much of the responsibility and emotional labor would fall on Roy, and I think he deserves better.
okay, if you're still reading at this point then thank you for reading!!! and thanks for the ask!! I had so much fun answering this 💚💚💚

I think my favorite JayKori dynamic that I've seen is not only Jason being down bad, but every single one of his siblings as well. God forbid this man bring her to the Manor, because he won't get to spend even five minutes with her.
Dick sweetly offers to propose to her because "If Jason's too much of a coward to do it, I don't mind taking initiative 😊"
Cass makes a PowerPoint about how why she should date Kori instead of Jason and sits both of them down to present it. Steph writes a paper and passes out a pamphlet with the summary of the presentation. It has statistics, at least thirty slides is them asking for just one chance, please, includes why Jason doesn't deserve her, and has at least three compliments on every slide. It takes eight hours to present, and Kori is impressed by their dedication and very flattered. Jason is murderous.
Tim isn't outright, but he's unusually nice to her. Like this boy is an snarky on the best of days, it's how he shows his affection, but when it comes to Kori? Nothing but compliments. He could call Damian a waste of space and in the same breath, ask Kori what perfume she's using because "you smell so nice! I mean you always smell nice, but this is a new scent, right?"
Damian's blatant about it. It's always, "when is her next visit?" and "why does Todd have to visit with her?" and demanding her attention at every turn. Nobody has heard him so much as breathe a bad word about her, and threatens anyone who does
Jason is seething and threatens his family with violence every time this happens. Kori thinks it's adorable.
HONESTLY it's just inexplicably cute to me. You're very very right, -- that saying " if you marry a man, you marry his family" is almost never sang positively, but if you're Kori Anders? It very, very much is.
Not to mention, -- the batfamily very rarely has the chance to witness the tough guy mask slip off Jason's face. They've only seen him be sappy with Bruce and Alfred. They never would've thought sugar was his favourite taste till Kori came along.
I do love Damian being a protective baby brother, thought; First things first, predominantly, he's in a state of numb shock. He's like 8. He doesn't understand romance that much, or how it works, or how it makes you act.
" Is Todd sick?"
" Mentally or morally? Cause yes to both."
" No, - Koriand'r purchased a strawberry dress and he passed out when he saw her wear it. Is he allergic to her?" Dick laughs and says oh no, he's worse. He's in LOVE.
More so, he just doesn't understand! Scientifically speaking, opposites do attract, but parallel lines don't. They're a mathetimatical equation he just doesn't understand.
Kori is sugar pink and cotton smile and honey fire. Jason is rough hands and sharp smirks and sun hot temper. And they shouldn't work but -- they....Do?
Damian is a protective little brother. I love the image of him " testing" Kori before he took to her. Like, he's just handing her the most ominous liquid and is like can you drink this? I have a school report.
And Kori very much wants his approval so she downs it up, " Of course, little star!"
Damian writes down Immune to poison. A valuable quality.
His good intentions don't phase Jason at all; He just hears his little worm of a brother poisoned his sunshine gf and he marches into the manor, stomps right over to Damian while trying to unlock his helmet with angry hands " Did you poison my FUCKING girlfriend-"
" It was a test. Todd, Todd it was a test --, IT WAS A TEST, TODD, --"

bruce strongly believes that the easiest way to get tim's attention is to confide his suicidal thoughts. 'Sweetheart, daddy's about to kill himself' and boom tim is tugging down his pants and goes 'no!! You need my kitty right now!! 🥺🥺 it will help you get over bad feelings! 🥰🥰'
no because i keep saying that if bruce and tim had met online then bruce would be the adult who holds himself hostage and threatens to kill himself while 13 year old tim is trying to talk him out of it at the breakfast table before school starts!!!!!!😩😩😩😩
i feel like tim would've been very 🥺🥺🥺 in the beginning but then he just starts rolling his eyes and peeling down his underwear, spreading the lips to reveal his cunt (waxed bare just how bruce likes it) and asking "is this what you want? will this make you feel better?"
like bruce is the level of toxic that will threaten suicide to get tim's attention because he knows that tim will absolutely drop everything to go to his side.
tim's on a date?
bruce will send him a text of the view from a roof with a message of 'thinking of ending it fr 😕'.
because he really was when he heard tim was on a date.
bruce almost couldn't stop himself from drinking bleach when he heard that he'd spent the night at jason's apartment (and he made sure to to text tim that).
and tim???
well tim has learned through trial and error that there's really only one way to get bruce out of that mental rut when he's like that.
tim has tried talking with bruce, reasoning with him, hugging him, holding him, feeding him, cuddling, and kissing him-
but the only thing that is guaranteed to work and get bruce off that metaphorical (and sometimes literal) ledge is pussy.
bare. raw pussy.
tim tried condoms in the beginning because he'd just started the sex-ed module of his health class but bruce had huffed the entire time. been disgruntles at hacing to wear and just overall been in a pretty foul mood about having to fucking tim with a barrier between them.
so tim bit the bullet and put himself on birth control.
it was worth it because bruce instantly livened up. and so long as tim made him cum and fucked him for hours he'd calm down. so long as tim rode him long enough that the 'bubbling thoughts' in his head faded away and all bruce wanted to do was to recline on a soft bed and drift to sleep- he'd be okay.
sometimes tim isn't lucky enough that bruce calls tim from his room and tells him about his 'dark feelings'. so tim is left with a pussy full of cum and a half asleep batman on some random roof in the middle of gotham.
maybe tim should be more 'sensitive' about bruce threatening to off himself but he can't help but have grown a little desensitized to it. and how couldn't he?
when tim was thirteen he'd get a call or text from bruce like that at least twice a week.
so tim had more or less developed a sort of 'c'mon bruce eat a snickers bar, you're not you when you're hungry' attitude.
bruce being able to touch tim's body calms him down. like how a pacifier calms down a screaming baby.
bruce had once been angry after a rogue got away and been lashing out at anyone who came near so tim had no choice but to climb into his lap and unzip his pants, shoving his cup out of the way. bruce had been gritting out a demand for tim to get off, that he wasn't in the mood.
but tim ignored that because bruce didn't throw him off and because bruce was never NOT in the mood.
tim got about halfway down his cock before bruce launched up, pinned tim to the console, and fucked him hard hard, fast, and mercilessly. beating up tim's pussy like he'd wanted to do to that rogue.
when bruce picked tim up from school he'd sometimes have his brows furrowed in stress and he'd finger tim at every stop light, curling his fingers in deep as tim clenched around them.
bruce is the most mentally and emotional unstable person tim has ever known.
but he's also tim (and his pussy's) responsability.
and tim would sooner die before he'd fail the self appointed responsibility of being bruce wayne's mood stabilizer.

🔥 jason todd
Ok im gonna talk about how jason todd stans here for a bit because i feel like i have a lot to say about how the character is percieved in fandom spaces. Jason wasn't some happy go lucky kid. I think the fandom treats him like he's just a "little lad who likes berries and cream". And that's probably people going too hard in the opposite direction to counter the idea of him being the "violent" robin (which I don't think he is. None of them are. There's a violence inherent to being a robin, being a vigilante, and arguing over which one was the "sweet" one and which one was the "angry" or "viscious" one is pointless), but I find the woobification harms the character. It's just another example of fanon erasing nuance.
The other thing that gets me is the way people handle Jason's willingness to kill as the red hood? As if it's something positive. As if sometimes people need to be killed. I think that's just a part of like, copaganda invading our psyches. The idea that a "good" person will enforce what's right and punish the bad people by any means necessary. I'm not even talking about the people that view red hood as dc's punisher, I'm talking about fandom takes who say jason was justified in killing xyz, because that person was especially awful. I think, sometimes there's a feeling of vindication in seeing revenge against someone cruel and unapologetically evil, but I also think that like. Stories are statements about the world.
Characters, especially superheroes, are not real people but allegories and stand-ins for larger groups or modes of thinking. Imo the bats are different from cops because they don't kill people, they don't have a license to be judge, jury, and executioner. They are trying to change the entire system, save every lost cause. Jason stands outside that. It's a good character choice! He's like that for a reason, and i do enjoy his early red hood stories. My point of contention here is I don't think that's a good or justified thing, and I'm a little off put by the people who act like he's "right" to kill, or that batman should have killed the joker for him.
One more point. I see a lot of people coming up with elaborate theories about how like, jason was killed because he was poor and homeless which made him unlikable and unrelatable to the middle class kids reading comics, and that he was killed with the plan to introduce a new robin (tim) that they'd find more relatable and I think that's all bullshit. I think things just lined up unfortunately. Like, jason as robin is not very consistently characterized, and a lot of his robin run isn't particularly special? We don't get much Jason's day to day life, his friends. Things that make him feel like a person? So then when there's a poll to kill him (that may or may not have been tampered with, as someone supposedly made essentially a bot to call in a bunch of times to kill jason) and people probably just weren't passionate enough about keeping robin alive at the time. When eventually the sales started to go down and they panicked. They need a new character that kids could connect themselves to. So, we get tim.
Tim has a very fleshed out personal life independent of batman. Tim was purposely built to be relatable to the audience reading these comics. He's an instant hit because his early run establishes him as a unique character his target audience could easily empatize with, not because of some long standing plan. And there is a statement to be made about the broader treatment of certain characters, but I dont think Jason's death is the prime example or some kind of conspiracy
