#I just would appreciate some Annabeth and Connor being friends
garussy · 1 year
Text
I’m upset that no one talks about the relationship between Annabeth and Connor Stoll.
They don’t interact a lot but they talk about eachother a lot.
Annabeth sees a pack of peanut M&Ms and immediately thinks about Connor and how he would burn a pack for his dad.
Clearly she spends enough time around him to remember little things about him.
He also pranked her before she met Percy so they’ve known eachother for a while.
I’m just saying we were robbed of Annabeth and Connor being friends.
Also robbed of Annabeth squaring up everytime someone makes a comment of Connor betraying the camp because of children of Hermes betraying the camp for Kronos.

guess who watched high school musical 2 and got caught up in the ryan/chad of it all: a conchell AU
this is pure 100% cheese. thats ur warning. also unbeta-ed.
Spending the entire summer at their mother’s golf resort had sounded like a dream for exactly 3 seconds, until Mitchell remembered the…. Everything about his siblings.
When he wasn’t pulling Sebastian away from flirting with all their guests and the entire staff, he was lecturing Scarlett and Drew about taking advantage of the concierge service, making sure Stefan and Valentina weren’t spending too much time in the sun and were definitely drinking virgin cocktails, reigning in Lacey and Sophia’s pranks, and making sure Sabrina was happy in her first summer enrolled in the youth program. Oh, and he was choreographing a major number for the end of summer talent show. So. Full plate.
Still, it was nice he had convinced Will to come along for the summer. While he was one of Mitchell’s official guests, he had quickly befriended the entire young staff in the kitchens and by the poolside. More than often, when they were on their walks around the resort, Will would no doubt be called out to or greeted by grinning teens in red and white polos.
Mitchell, used to his friend’s sunflower attraction toward attention, smiled knowingly and let it happen without a complaint. At least Will was enjoying himself--he’d been way too stressed about his pre-med program the last few months and, with Mitchell spending most of his time at the resort trying to rein in his power-drunk sibling, he was glad his friend wasn’t spending the summer alone at the poolside.
Of course, with all his new acquaintances, that also meant that Will’s tendency to interfere with Mitchell’s personal relationships appeared.
“I’m telling you, you need to hang out with friends more, you’ve been busy all summer!” Will was smiling brightly. “This is the perfect opportunity!”
“Yes, the perfect opportunity to intrude on a social gathering!” Mitchell protested, “It’ll be weird if I go. You should just go and have fun, don’t worry about me.” Mitchell sighed, “I don’t want them to be uncomfortable! This is their down time, I don’t want to ruin it by being the boss’s kid.”
Will rolled his eyes, “It’s a baseball game, Mitchell.”
Mitchell shook his head, final. “Sorry. But I don’t think so. Text me afterward, okay? We can grab ice cream.” Will said nothing. He peeked a look back to the other boy, “Unless there’s something else?”
Will sighed and looked off to the side as his cheeks colored. “Okay, listen, of course I really want you there because you’re my best friend and everything but also -”
“There’s a guy.” Mitchell guessed, bored. Will found the love of his life at least once a week. “Who is he?”
Will didn’t even put up a fight. “I’m not sure if you know him. He works in the coffee shop? Pale, dark hair, sharpest cheekbones I’ve ever seen?”
Mitchell thought for a second, “Nico?” He guessed. Nico, for the past few months, has consistently served him the best caramel macchiato he’d ever had every morning. Mitchell dreamt about that drink, on especially good nights.
Will melted into a dreamy mess. “Yeah. Nico.”
Mitchell blew a puff of hair up into the hair around his face, “I mean…” He grimaced, “If you need a wingman or something -”
“Yes!” Will was already celebrating, “Thank the gods, thank you! I mean, I think you’ll enjoy yourself at the game and everyone’s really cool, but yes! Okay, if you could just like, set up a really good opportunity for me and Nico to be together like, alone, I’d so appreciate it -”
Will continued to ramble about the perfect situation Mitchell could set up, including the ideal mood lighting, when Mitchell interrupted him.
"Is Percy okay?" Percy had just rushed by, looking upset, and hopped in his mother’s car without a word to either of them--odd, as he usually offered at least a hey guys! If not a full on conversation that left Mitchell feeling like a better person for having it. It was kind of his thing.
"Oh, he's in turmoil because he feels like he has to choose between swimming or singing with Annabeth at the talent show and he doesn’t know which to choose."
“Oh.”
Will wrinkled his nose, “Yeah, he’s kinda got his own thing going on right now. I saw him dancing by himself in the golf course earlier, but I thought I’d just give him some space.”
“Smart,” Mitchell commented, growing a bit uneasy as they approached the field. There was a crowd already assembled there with a smaller circle throwing a baseball back and forth. As they approached, a few people called out to Will in excitement but it wasn’t until they were faced with a smaller inner group of people that Mitchell was addressed.
A tall, smirking guy with wild curls was the first to greet him, lightly tossing a baseball into his own mit as he spoke. “Brought a friend, Will?”
Will smiled brightly. “Yeah! This is Mitchell.”
“Trust me, I know who Mitchell is.” His humor-filled gaze flickered to Mitchell himself. “Nice to finally meet you.”
Mitchell’s cheeks heated. “You know me?”
Travis let out a small disbelieving laugh. “Yeah. Yeah, I do.” Travis elbowed the guy at his side, who shared similar curls and features. “And this is my brother, Connor.”
“Hello, I don’t think we’ve been properly introduced.” Mitchell held out his hand with a smile. “I’m Mitchell. You’re on the staff, here?”
Despite the incredibly stupid question Mitchell just asked considering Connor’s bright red LIFEGUARD tank top he still wore, Connor was kind enough to nod along with Mitchell’s obvious question, his eyes wide. Mitchell’s hand, still extended out to him, wobbled in the air.
He was a second away from dropping his arm and shaking it off completely when Connor seemed to realize that he was waiting for a handshake in the first place and nearly dived for it. In his haste, he almost completely tripped over himself and onto Mitchell.
“Oh, well,” Mitchell caught him before he could take them both down on the dirt field. “Are you okay? Is it too hot or something?” Connor’s face was strangely pale compared to his brother’s, despite the mid-afternoon summer sun. Mitchell resisted the urge to reach out and touch his skin for sun stroke.
“So hot,” Connor whispered, in his arms. Mitchell stared down at him in concern.
A girl--Katie, maybe--came up beside him and physically took Connor out of his arms, a tight smile on her lips. “This is nothing, he’s just dehydrated.”
“More like thirsty.” A girl across from them muttered.
Katie continued on like no one said anything. “Let’s get some water in you, dude.”
Will was smiling on like this interaction was completely normal. “So anyway I was wondering if Mitchell could join our game?”
“Hmm, well this is an employee-only game.” Despite his words, the light tease in Travis’s voice kept Mitchell from getting nervous about the whole situation. “But it does raise the stakes.”
That Mitchell could work with. His lips stretched out into a wide grin. “Yeah? What were you thinking?”
Travis clicked his tongue, “How do you feel about being Captain? I take one team, you take the other.”
He thought it over then nodded. “That sounds fair. What’s the prize?”
Travis shrugged, messing with the baseball in his mit as he spoke. “Any ideas?”
Mitchell pretended to think, already knowing what he wanted. With a group this size, his choreo could really expand into something great. “If you lose, you guys have to join my dance group for the talent show.”
“Hmm,” Travis looked to the girl at his side--Phoebe, he thought, another lifeguard. She once helped him with Sabrina’s floaties. “We’ll consider that. Guys?” The circle of employees gathered a bit closer to talk it over. Will shot him an excited look.
Suddenly, in the midst of their talking it over, Connor burst from the huddle and pushed his way over to Mitchell. “I’ll give you fifty dollars if you let me on your dance team.”
“Wait, no -” Travis grabbed his shoulders from behind to push him back, “Connor, we’re trying to negotiate with him!”
“Oh,” Connor nodded seriously and turned back to where Mitchell was waiting, amused. “I’ll pay two hundred -”
Katie slapped a hand over his mouth and dragged him back to the crowd, him protesting all the way. Travis looked back to Mitchell, tired. “Just ignore him, please.”
Mitchell watched him sink back into the crowd, something small curled at his lips. “I don’t think I can.”
“Anyway,” Katie was the one to speak now. “We talked it over, that sounds fine. If we lose, we’ll be in your show.”
Mitchell had to resist punching the air in excitement. “Great.”
Travis leaned back with his arms crossed, looking him over. “And what do we get if we win?”
“Well, what do you want?”
“Dinner and a movie,” Connor choked out, almost like he didn’t mean to.
Mitchell raised an eyebrow, “An catered employee afternoon in the movie theatre?” He thought it over, then shrugged. “I could probably arrange that.”
Travis rubbed at his forehead, “I - sure. Yeah, that sounds fun.”
“Alright,” Mitchell smiled with a small shrug of his shoulders. “I guess it’s game on, then.”
...
Of course, against a batch of peers who had been playing baseball all summer, Mitchell was bound to lose. However, they didn’t lose as hard as he expected.
After the match, when Mitchell was left aching from the game and loss but proud despite it, Will sunk down next to him at the picnic table. “Good game. I didn’t think you’d get so into it.”
At the last moment, Mitchell had ended up diving for a ball, completely dirting up his outfit. He had caught it, and it had counted, but two players had already made it home in the meantime. Still, it was a close loss.
Mitchell smiled slightly. “Me neither. But it was worth a shot at a full dance group.”
Will laughed softly, “Still. Great catch.”
“It really was.” They both looked up at the new voice--Katie, from before. She’d been on Travis’s team with Connor, Jason, Leo, Annabeth and a few others. The rest of the group was mostly dispersed by now, most of them arranging rides home or plans to grab food. “We haven’t had a game that fun in a while.”
At her arrival, Will stood and offered her his seat. Which was kind, but also definitely just a ploy to escape and run off wherever Nico was lurking. Mitchell waved him off with a roll of his eyes before returning back to the conversation. Katie took his place without a word.
“Well, I’m happy to help. It was a good time, you guys work well together.” Mitchell shot her a knowing grin. “I’ll start working out the theatre rental. Any movie requests?”
She shrugged, “We can take a vote on it. But we’ve also been talking.” Katie had an amused twinkle in her eye. “We’re in. We’ll still do your show, it sounds fun.”
Mitchell sat up completely, a bolt of excitement hitting him. “Wait, really?” At her nod, he absolutely lit up. “Oh my god, it’s gonna be such a fun show, I promise!” He got to his feet in excitement and threw his arms around her shoulders in a hug, pulling away promptly. “Oh my god, wait, I’m covered in dirt I’m so sorry -”
She waved it off but stood herself. She, too, was covered in dirt from the game so didn’t seem to care much at any additional.
He couldn’t help but babble on. “It’s going to be so much fun. You won’t regret it.”
She smiled at him, looking like she was indulging him. “I know. Anyway, just a moment,” She disappeared for a few moments only to return, dragging Connor by the wrist. She pushed him toward Mitchell, almost bumping them into each other. “Connor will be your contact point for organizing this. Trade numbers, will you? For planning.”
“Oh, sure!” Mitchell fumbled to get his phone out and hand it over. Connor’s phone appeared under his hand faster than he thought possible.
Katie left them alone as he punched in his own phone and name, drifting back to where Travis and a few others were waiting. He handed back Connor’s phone, suddenly closer to the other boy than he had realized. He paused.
“You have grass in your hair.” Connor breathed out.
“Oh,” Mitchell dipped his head in embarrassment and rubbed at his head. “Oops.”
“I -” Connor gestured to his own temple. “Other side?”
He tried but Connor only stepped forward slightly into his space, reaching out slowly. “Let me -” Mitchell felt a slight pull on his hair, not painful. Connor pulled away with a blade of grass in between two fingers.
“Got it,” Connor said weakly, staring down at him.
“My hero,” Mitchell teased. Connor nodded gravely at that, like he was accepting a mission.
Connor licked his lips before he spoke. “That was a really good catch. You’re a good player.”
“Baseball’s just a dance of its own.” Mitchell shrugged, joking. “What can I say? I’m just that much of a star athlete.” Connor nodded, looking like he completely agreed.
Before either of them could say anything further, Will called out to him and ran their way, grinning, with another guy at his side. “I heard the news! They’re still doing the show, that’s great!” Will was glowing, “See, coming to this was a great idea!”
Mitchell stuck out his tongue, “You just wanted to brag that you were right.”
“No!” Will looked behind where he had ran from and lit up, “Actually, I wanted to introduce you to Nico!”
Nico, who trailed after him a few steps, walked up beside Will with a sarcastic roll of his eyes. Mitchell liked him already. “Next time you’re going to run off mid-conversation, can you at least give me a warning first? I’ll die before I jog after you in jeans.”
“You’re the one who wore jeans to a baseball game!”
“And why not? You think I’m gonna participate in this?”
“Well, you’re an employee at an employee baseball game. Perhaps I thought you were going to play.”
“Where would you get that idea? Have you not seen the everything about me?”
“Hi, I’m Mitchell.” He stuck out his hand with a grin. He could sit here all day, truly, but he did have things to do. “You’re Nico?”
“That’s me.” He raised an eyebrow. “You look familiar.
“Mitchell is one of Aphrodite’s kids. He’s a good one, don’t worry.” Will explained, shooting Mitchell a wince like he didn’t know exactly how his siblings were.
Mitchell snorted, “On behalf of Drew and Scarlett, I can’t apologize enough.”
“That… helps.” Nico winced. “I messed up Drew’s chai latte my first day on the job.”
Mitchell groaned, “Again, I’m so sorry. I’ve been trying to get them to act like, you know, normal people -”
Nico cut him off. “We work at a golf club. I get more cranky boomers in an hour than an AARP meeting.” Nico shook his head, “They’re a lot, but definitely not the worst customers to have. At least they tip well.”
He could have wilted in relief. Across from him, Will’s eyes were nearly hearts. God, he was already lovesick.
Which reminded him --
“Actually, Connor and I were just leaving. We’ll leave you two be.” Mitchell lightly grabbed Connor’s elbow to start steering him away. “Will, can you get a ride home? I’m probably going to be staying late.”
Next to him, Nico perked up. “Oh, I can give you a ride? If you want? I’ll have to pick up my older sister but, um, it’s not that out of the way -”
“I would love to.” Will looked perfectly composed, despite the screaming excitement that must be running through his head. He even managed to grab onto Nico’s hand as he led them away toward the parking lot.
“Young love,” Mitchell commented, shaking his head fondly as the other couple walked off. “Must be nice.” He stepped back and dropped his hand from Connor’s elbow. “Oh, sorry!” He laughed lightly. “Sorry, I was recruited as Will’s wingman and I wanted to give them some time alone. Cute, right?”
Connor’s throat bobbled. “So cute. Um,” Connor made a jerky movement, like he was gonna run his hand through his hair but decided not to. “So you’re, uh, staying late?”
“Yeah,” He blew some air up into the hair hanging over his face. “If you guys are gonna join the number, I want to have the choreo adjusted for a group before we start rehearsals.”
“Cool, cool.” Connor nodded slowly, “Cool.”
Now that he was closer, Mitchell could almost recognize Connor from his many shifts poolside. His lifeguard chair was almost right across from where Valentina would occasionally drag him to tan in the afternoon sun. Didn’t he once help Mitchell apply sunscreen, when Valentina ran to get slushies right when he was reapplying?
His hands were cold, Mitchell remembered, or maybe his own skin was just that hot. He shivered when Connor applied the first handful of cream on his back. Mitchell had to advise Connor to take some of the sunscreen himself, after his own skin started to stain red.
He was kind, was the point. Or at least, that’s what Mitchell remembered.
Mitchell gestured at his parked golf cart as they approached it. “You want a ride anywhere? I’m heading toward the main pavilion.”
Something wobbled in Connor’s expression before he spoke. “I could, um, go with you?” He said it as a question, looking slightly nervous as he spoke.
“Yeah, sure! The employee entrance? Did you forget something?”
“No, no, like -” Connor made another awkward gesture toward nothing. “Like, if you need help with the number? I could come? I mean, it’s never too early to get started on learning the dance, right?”
Mitchell smiled, “Oh, sure! Do you have experience with dance routines?”
Connor nodded confidently. “Yes.”
“Really?” Mitchell turned to him in excitement. “Have you been in any dance groups before?”
“Um. No.”
“Oh, so like private lessons or something? A club?”
“Uh. No again.” His confidence was fully wavering now.
Mitchell raised his eyebrows, “So what experience do you have?”
“I sometimes dance in my room?” Connor scratched at the back of his head. “I, um. I didn’t think you’d ask many questions, actually.”
Despite his awkwardness, Mitchell was… charmed by Connor’s fumbling.
“Um,” Mitchell bit his smiling lip, looking away then back. “Actually, I was supposed to get ice cream with Will after the game.”
Connor deflated before he could finish. “Oh. Okay, yeah.”
“No!” Mitchell was quick to correct. “I meant like, with Will going off with Nico, I still want to get it. With you. If that’s okay?”
Connor’s expression bloomed into something so joyful, Mitchell was almost taken back. “I would… adore that.”
“Adore?” Mitchell couldn’t help but tease. “Why’s that?”
“I just,” He turned to Mitchell, his eyes wide. “I just really, really like ice cream.”
Mitchell bit his lip, “Me too. I mean, I really like ice cream. Ice cream is… sweet.”
Connor huffed out a small laugh, “Yeah. I, uh, agree.” He made an awkward little motion with his arm at the golf cart. “Um, shall we go?”
Mitchell stepped forward and looped his arm with Connor’s. “Actually, I thought we could walk?”
“I will do literally anything you want.”
Mitchell laughed, “I’ll hold you to that.”
To Mitchell’s amusement, Connor’s face turned a dark, dark red. He looked away, his lips pressed together in a small excited smile. Perhaps the baseball game hasn’t been such a bad idea.

Chapter One
Skate Into My Heart -- Solangelo AU
It’s finally here!
In the prologue I said that sectionals came first- I’m sorry part of the internet lied to me. Regionals is first so that’s what’ll be happening here
Bryce was barreling towards him.
Clarisse attempted to take the puck and stop Bryce but today he was chock full of red-hot anger and elbowed her out of his way, swiping at her ankles with his stick.
She barely managed to skate out of his way and yelled, “Lawrence! What’s the matter with you!”
It seemed to go in one ear and out the other.
He kept the puck close to him, keeping every other player away from him.
And he just kept his course straight to the goal. Straight to Will.
It was a practice game. Didn’t he know that? What was he doing? This wasn’t a big deal.
Bryce was still skating when he shot. It seemed like it was in slow-motion. The puck soared through the air, rising off the ice.
Will dove to block it from entering the goal - which was the wrong move. It hit him square in his chest, with enough force to make Will abruptly lose his breath.
Bryce came to a halt in front of him, spraying Will with ice shards.
“Lawrence, it seemed like that had quite the pent up aggression,” Connor said, while Will caught his breath.
Bryce rolled his eyes, taking off his helmet. “Just cause Solace and the rest of you are weak pussies.”
“Pussies’?” Travis came up behind Connor. “What’s that supposed to mean?” Clarisse only snarled her agreement.
“Guys,” Jason said. “Come on, it’s just Bryce being Bryce.”
Bryce turned to face Jason. “What is that supposed to mean, Grace.”
Jason crossed his arms, his eyes flashing.
“Why was that the term you picked?” Clarisse asked, her voice low. Dangerous.
“This isn’t helping anything.” Will cut in. “Let’s just leave it. He’ll learn his lesson eventually. Someone will teach him.”
Jason seemed to steel himself, “Yeah. Let’s not fight.”
“Why?” Bryce taunted. “Are you both gay or something?” Will felt his hand twitch, almost curling itself into a fist. Surveying the team, everybody seemed to be holding themselves back.
Will was saved from answering Bryce’s (admittedly, most likely rhetorical, though it was doubtful he knew what that word meant) when he heard someone yell, “Will!”
It was Kayla standing at the edge of the rink. He skated over to her and came to a stop in front of her.
He jumped up to sit on the thick barrier and pull his skates off. “What?” He looked over to see Kayla looking at him with her arms crossed over her chest.
“I’ve been trying to get your attention for ages now. Your mom keeps calling your phone.”
Will went quiet, holding back a curse.
Kayla looked at him sympathetically despite him not saying anything.
“Alright. Thanks.” She patted him on the shoulder as he wove around her.
“Hey, mom,”
“William. Why haven’t you answered me?”
“I’ve been practicing, mom.”
“Practicing for anything in particular?” Her voice was high - too high - he knew this always meant she expected an answer he couldn’t give her.
“Hockey, mom.”
She sighed sadly and he got defensive.
“You know I’m only playing to try and somehow help me get through med school.”
“I know, honey. But still, it’s such a brutish sport, and locker rooms,” He could feel her shudder through the phone. “All the men.”
Will knew better than to probe about what that meant.
It would be easier to get through med school if you let me ask - or even talk - to dad. You and I both know he’d be willing. It is Medical School.
He didn’t say that though, it would only piss her off or make her sad and it just wouldn’t be a good situation.
After an awkward silence, he saw Jason poke his head into the narrow corridor Will was in. Jason made some frantic, but quiet (ever polite) hand motions.
Will didn’t know if he should be feeling such intense relief, considering Jason’s face was pretty panicked.
“Mom, I’ve got to know. They need me.”
“Okay,” She said hesitantly. “Make sure to study tonight. You’ve got to keep everything fresh. Always.”
He wasn’t even in school yet. (He was trying though). And she wanted him to know everything.
Will didn’t know what he hated more. His mother’s expectations, or Bryce Lawerence. Really, it was a difficult choice.
She hung up before he could say anything.
He jogged over to where Jason was. “C’mon,” Jason said.
While they were walking Jason kept glancing at Will with a concerned expression. “What,” Will said finally, lips quirking into a smile.
“You alright, man? Your facial expressions during that call didn’t seem great.”
Will shrugged dismissively, “Just my mom. You know how that is.”
Jason laughed darkly, “Don’t I.”
“So what’s up,” Will asked, remembering how frantic he’d been.
“Oh, yeah. Um.”
Will grinned, “Spit it out, Grace. I’m a big boy. I can take it.”
Jason snorted. “I need someone to come with me to the figure skating Regionals tonight.”
Will tripped over his own feet but caught himself before he hit the ground.
Jason looked at him with brief worry then just burst out laughing.
“Leave me alone,” But Will was laughing too. “Why?”
“So you know, my sister Thalia,” Will nodded - everybody knew Thalia - “She’s best friends with this woman, Annabeth Chase. They’ve known each other since Annabeth was seven. Old history ya know.”
“So Annabeth’s a skater. She was going to be competing actually. But something awful happened with her boyfriend, he’s across the country. I’m unsure about the details. Thalia left to meet them earlier today, she’s also close with the boyfriend, I guess. So Thals needs me to go because apparently these tickets cost a lot and she doesn’t want them to go to waste.”
Jason’s voice got low like he was sharing a conspiracy nobody knew. “A little secret about me, I appreciate figure skaters.”
Will let out a surprised laugh and made his voice as low as Jason’s, “Me too.”
Jason smiled, “I figured. Which is why I’m inviting you. Thalia had two. One for her, and one for Grover Underwood.”
Will hummed his acknowledgment. “Yeah, dude. Of course, I’ll come. Just tell me time and place.”
Jason pumped his fist in the air.
~~~~~
Jason had told him he would pick him up, so here Will was. Waiting for Jason to arrive. He’d dressed nice (but not too nice) it was a competition after all, and despite how much he’d deny it his mother’s lessons in etiquette had stuck.
Will was texting, sitting on the couch up against the window in his small apartment. He was letting the dying sunlight filter in and light the space. The reds and oranges and yellows made Will look like some sort of deity. It haloed his hair and accentuated the sharp planes of his face. His feet were propped, knees bent, next to him.
It was a groupchat with Austin, Kayla, and himself. The only way it could be summed up is: chaos.
Kayla: Sooooo
Austin: Yes?
Kayla: Not you
Austin: How dare you
Kayla: Go play your saxophone and feel better
Austin: I will
Austin: Not because you told me to
Kayla: Oh of course not
Will: So that ‘soooo’ was for me, then?
Kayla: Oh yeah
Kayla: Any cutes boys you’ve met recently?
Will: You know that you’d know if I met anybody
Austin: Is there anybody lgbt even at the rink
Will: Oh yeah but nobody I’ve noticed I like
Kayla: :(
Will was startled by a knock on the door.
“It’s open!” He called, getting off the couch to meet Jason.
~~~ Nico
I slowly sank to a sitting position, feeling the rough brick scrape my back. I knew it would leave noticeable marks but right now, I couldn’t bring myself to care.
I had been stretching and messing around with the others but suddenly my chest had felt very tight.
Hazel had seen the pained expression on my face and made some excuse, letting me slip out the backdoor.
I couldn’t do this.
Saltwater. I tasted salt water.
I couldn’t.
It trickled down my neck.
I couldn’t.
I was so fucking weak.
For so, so many reasons.
I could feel the gradually growing serpent of my anxieties building in the back.
I hadn’t practiced for this enough, and I was going to let everyone down.
The judges were going to find out my most closely guarded secret and-
No. Forget the judges. Everyone was going to find out.
Everyone.
I was probably going to mess up and embarrass myself in one of the biggest competitions of my life.
I was going to let everyone down.
Again.
I’d found a family and all because I was a fucking failure, I was going to lose them.
I knew I had enough cash in my bag to leave if I had to.
By bag I mean the one I always had:
A change of clothes
Cash for bus tickets
Bottled water and protein bars
A pocket knife.
But it wouldn’t be enough, would it?
I still wouldn’t be able to get away from the shame.
From any of the shame.
Why did I have to be this way? Why
I couldn’t breathe
I couldn’t fucking breathe.
The saltwater ran like a perverted caress down my face and neck and chest.
I shivered involuntarily
“Hey,” The voice was soft, and not familiar.
I turned so quickly half of my face scraped the wall.
We winced in sync.
It was the boy I’d seen in the rink some time ago, the hockey player.
~~~~
Will
“Hey, Jason?”
He looked at me.
We were being jostled through the crowd. There were so many people. So many.
“I need some air. Can you text me our seat numbers?”
He paused and looked at me. At how my eyes flitted around the room and my flinch every time someone ran into me.
“Yeah, of course, dude.” He made shooing motions with his hands, making me snort. He grinned but kept staring at me until I turned around and started pushing my way through the crowd.
I knew I couldn’t go outside the front door, there would be even more people there. So I did something scandalous.
I pushed open the door marked Employees Only and was ejected outside the back of the building.
I was walking along the wall when I saw movement a few feet away.
It was a boy, pressing himself against the wall like it was simultaneously all that was keeping him alive and like he wanted to fade into it.
“Hey,” I murmured like I was attempting to talk down a tiger.
He turned, scraping his face along the wall. But he didn’t seem to feel it.
He looked like some kind of ghoul, sitting there. The bad lighting from the street lamps washed out his ivory skin, making him look deathly.
Those dark eyes peered at me.
He’d look terrifying, except he appeared too small for his body.
He was shivering, tears running freely down his face.
At the angle he was sitting, it looked like his bones were almost poking out of his skin.
Some sense in me was screaming to help him, and though he looked like the opposite type to accept my help he hadn’t run away either.
I looked him up and down and saw with panic he seemed to be holding his breath, but he didn’t seem to realize it.
I didn’t know who this boy was, besides seeing him occasionally at the rink.
But we were both here and like hell was I going to leave him.
~~~~
Nico
He was looking at me with a look of sympathy. Not pity. Sympathy.
He reached out but I flinched away from him and he let his hand drop.
“Can you breathe?” His voice was serious but caring. I couldn’t really see him, the water in my eyes distorted him but I felt like he was some kind of god. He looked like pure sunlight.
I only shook my head, suddenly feeling the urge to take large gulping breaths.
“Put your head between your knees.”
He didn’t reach for me again, but his fingers twitched like he wanted to.
The surrounding world was a dull roar in my ears. The serpent, who’d been ready to devour me whole, angrily shrank back into the recesses of my brain until I could only see those slit-pupiled eyes. It was only lying in wait. Like always. When I lifted my head, my scowl was back.
Despite the rivulets of saltwater- not tears, I couldn’t call them that - I snarled at him, “Leave me alone. I didn’t ask for your help.”
He raised his hands in surrender, “I’m sorry. I’m not going to tell anyone what happened here, so you don’t have to worry about that. Nico, right?”
I just growled again but he didn’t seem to take the hint. He had a small backpack next to him and he rummaged through it and handed me some tissues and a water bottle.
I raised my eyebrows.
“I figured you wouldn’t want to cross through to go to the bathroom.”
I grudgingly accepted and started wiping at my face after dampening the tissues. He pulled out a small tube of ointment. “Put it on your face, okay? The scrape is not that bad. But it can’t hurt.”
I just stared blankly at him and he laid it next to me with a smile.
He waved, a little awkwardly, as he walked away.
As I stared at the ointment and the tissues and water I could only come up with one coherent thought:
What the fuck
~~~~ Will
His phone pinged with a message from Jason. After a few seconds of searching, he found it in his small backpack. He distractedly glanced over the text.
Jason: We’re in row A, seats 5 and 6. Thalia got us right up front.
Will: Sounds good
Will: I’ll head there now
He slipped his phone back into his bag.
He really hoped Nico was okay. He was a figure skater and most likely is competing tonight, and Will had never seen him in action but he was almost positive they would need him.
“Hey!” Jason waved to him from their seats and Will slid in next to him.
“You okay?” Jason asked after Will got settled. “You looked pretty uncomfortable.”
“Hmm? Oh. Yeah, I’m okay. I’m not normally like that but something about that environment.” He shuddered. “Anyway, everything’s good now.”
Jason nodded with a smile.
Will surveyed the rink. It was nicer than their rinks back at the studio which was saying something.
He spotted the judge's podium, on a small platform slightly above the rink. There were five judges, none of them looking like they entirely wanted to be here and all of them looking like they would throttle whoever came out.
Not only did the judges look unhappy, but about half of the crowd also did too. They were all shifting like they were here, but there was somewhere else they’d rather be. Why come then?
Will couldn’t imagine being one of the skaters in the locker rooms right now, he’d probably throw up.
“First up!” The booming voice of the announcer made Will jump slightly in his seat.
“The singles competition,” He drawled. “From Crescent City…”
Will tuned him out as he watched the woman glide out onto the ice. She was really good and kept most of the crowd entranced, but Will also had an eye on the judges. Only a few of them seemed impressed but only one seemed bored, which most likely was a good thing for her.
“From Olympus Ice,”
Jason and Will leaned forward at the same time.
“Nico Di Angelo!”
Will felt himself clapping as soon as his name was announced.
Nico seemed to magically appear on the ice, looking significantly more confident than the last time he’d seen him.
He appeared to take a deep breath and steel himself before beginning his routine. It was magic. Pure magic.
The way he flew made it look like he’d been born to do this.
It was elegant, but, in a way, suspenseful. Like he could do something unexpected at any moment.
Will was frozen, lips slightly parted as Nico made everyone believe he owned the rink.
He wove a story with his fluid movements, a story that held Will captive.
He attempted a move that never in Will’s wildest dreams could he do, everyone watched as he spun with bated breath and cheered when he landed but the skater in Will recognized that he hadn’t done it. He almost did, and he definitely caught himself, but he hadn’t done it.
And if those judges were worthy at all for their position, they would know too.
Nico finally slid to a stop in front of the judges, his arms crossed over his chest and his chin tilted upward, challenging them to mention the slip-up.
It was quite a scene. He looked almost ethereal and they were all sitting (or standing in Nico’s case) looked like something out of a painting.
Later, after the other singles and the partners and the ensembles, the audience was still, waiting for the announcement.
“The 1st place winner, and who will be going to Sectionals is…
Olympus Ice!” People burst into applause but Will was only staring at Nico who was standing with his team, a barely-there smile present on his face, but enough to make Will whisper, “Wow,”
Jason glanced at him, then at where he was staring. “Don’t do that, Will. No figure skaters. You know that.”
Will rolled his eyes and scoffed,  “I would never.”
Jason sighed and smiled, “Good.”
If the Avengers and HOO/BOO characters came together
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clint Barton would immediately make a fatherly connection with all. of. them. Especially Percy, who’s dealt with a lot of abuse for a majority of life because of Smelly Gabe. Clint is kinda just the man that Percy needs in his life.
Percy would also grow close with Tony and Natasha; seeing as they all have a similar sense of humor and have a habit of pissing off the wrong people. The three of them understand each other in ways other people never possibly could. And the three of them all on the same team? That’s one hell of a sass team.
You might think Percy, Nat and Tony together are too much to handle; but just wait when Leo gets in the mix.
Percy also seems to really like being around Sam Wilson as well—but they definately have a “dude/bro” kinda relationship rather than a father/son relationship. They share a lot of inside jokes, and have similar personalities.
Percy and Bucky definately have some kind of friendship/father/son going also; they’ve both experienced things that no one ever should. They’ve both been traumatized and tortured in ways others couldn’t ever imagine. Bucky, who had managed to overcome most of his trauma, teaches Percy how to come to terms with his own and vise/versa. They also tend to share their own stories when the time is right. These two really understand each other.
In the end, Percy has a really good relationship with all of the Avengers. He’s just too easy to get along with if your vibe matches. Percy’s loyal and (sometimes) reasonable, which is why he’s so widely trusted and easily considered reliable among the team.
Natasha would absolutely become like a mentor to Piper. She would teach Piper how to be a badass and fly asf all at the same time when needed—they’d either become like sister or mother & daughter, I still can’t decide which.
“You are strong, beautiful, and powerful.” Natasha reminded Piper, who was mervous for her first mission with the team, “nothing can beat you. Remember that.”
Also, Peter P. definately as a huge crush on Piper.
Don’t tell Jason.
Leo and Pietro are hella troublesome, like, they’re both so hyper and fast paced that everyone has a hard time keeping up with them. But they can keep up with each other just fine, which makes them the perfect fit, ya know? They’re basically the best brother/brother duo to ever exist.
Leo would also get along hella good with Thor—they both have the same kind of cocky behavior on the outside, but on the inside they’re both really unsure of themselves and they can bond over that
Leo also gains a father/son connection with Tony. They’re both really in tune with engineering and creating things, they can teach each other. Best of all, Leo helps Tony improve his products to help build up his industry even more.
And Leo loves helping Tony create the best suits for the rest of the team—when they work together on these londs of things, you can expect it to be hella advanced.
“You’re going places, kid,” Tony oftened praised, which was a big change for Leo. No one ever really noticed his talent. “I’m sure of it.”
Just like with Pietro, Leo and Peter P. have a good relationship also. They’re both really smart and quick in similar ways, but also very differently.
Steve is the kinda guy Nico needs in his life—Cap is lighthearted, understanding, and trustworthy. Because Hades isn’t always so dependable, Steve is the man Nico turns to for actual good advice because he knows Steve can be trusted.
But because Nico can really appreciate comfortable silence, he and Bucky vibe pretty well. They aren’t awkward around each other, and both have experienced similar trauma. That being said, they all understand what it’s like to be thrown into a completely different time period. It’s something that Nico, Steve and Bucky can relate to.
But unlike Nico, Hazel and Wanda finds themselves drawn to each other. Like sisters, mostly. They know what it’s like to be treated like their weird; with Hazel’s mortal mother being a ‘witch’ and Wanda pretty much being a witch herself, it kinda just pulls them to each other.
Jason and Thor would be pretty tense—with Thor being the god of thunder and Zeus the god of lightning, they just have an unspoken mindset that wants to prove which is better than the other. BUT there are times when the two work together very well; they have a very strange love/hate relationship, kind of like an older brother and a younger brother. In the end, they DO care for and appreciate one another.
Jason would also probably look up to Steve, hoping that one day he could be as 'righteous’ and as good of a leader. The Roger’s man is strong and intimidating when he has to be, but friendly and laid back on the regular.
Jason and Nat would both probably have a pretty big brother/sister relationship. They had both been trained young to fight and show no merch, both their parents sucked. It was like they had lived the same lives with the same parents, despite not ever knowing the other had existed.
“We’ve lived rough lives,” Natasha once said, “but only so that we can provide better ones, safer ones, for the people who can’t do it themselves. It had to be us.”
Just like Percy, Jason and Sam have a “dude/bro” kind of relationship. And the three of them often hang out in Sam’s apartment making stupid jokes and messing around. It’s nice to have some mortal friends that can introduce them to normal human things, and Sam does just that.
Frank and Clint definately hit it off pretty good. Sooner or later, the two of them become like father/son like Clint does with all of them. But they’re different. The two of them fight back-to-back with their bow and arrows and together, they’re basically unstoppable. On missions, the rest of the team usually like to say things like, “we’re gonna need our favorite archers for this one”
Frank, for the most part, tried to avoid Tony. The Stark man just gets on his nerves sometimes with his cocky attitude. But, Frank’s a pretty reasonable person. He pushes aside his channeling resentment when it’s time to get serious.
Much like Hazel, Frank gets along well with Wanda. They have pretty strange powers, and when the time is right, like to show off to each other what they can do. It’s not a competition; they’re just genuinely interested in the things one another can do.
Thor and the Stoll brothers would drfinately welcome each other with wide open arms. They have similar humors and personalities, and after losing his chance to truly make Loki his brother, he finds that Connor and Travis Stoll are the younger brothers he needed all along. In a way, they’re just Loki—but kind of a better version of him. Thor doesn’t doubt for a second that Loki and the Stoll’s would’ve appreciated each other’s company.
Also, these kids would def love Stephen Strange, and Stephen Strange would def love them, too. They each have abilities they’ve never even imagined having, and Strange has no problem helping them reach their full potential.
But most importantly, Stephen would see HUGE potential in Annabeth. So he would take her under his wing and teach her to do the things he knows how to do; it just fits so well.
And overtime, he begins to father her more than he mentors her. Because Stephen knows that Annabeth could never really come to terms with her mortal father—he was just too misunderstanding toward her, it was toxic. At this point, he’s like her emotional support.
And Annabeth is so smart and strategic, Stephen is just so frickin proud of how far she’s come as she really begins to understand the concept of his magic. And just like with Chiron, Annabeth looks up to Strange. She just wishes she had run into him earlier. Maybe then she and Percy wouldn’t have had to suffer through Tartarus and all that. Maybe she could’ve protected Thalia all those years ago.
And Stephen may not ever have his own kids, but having Annabeth often refer to him as her father makes his nose tingle emotionally. Her biological father had really given up something that could’ve been a truly amazing aspect in his life.
“I’m proud of you, Annabeth. I really am.”
And Annabeth almost cried, thankful that someone other than Percy really appreciated her talents.
That’s what really needed in the end—recognition, support, and for people like Leo or Nico, all they needed was some sort of family that could see not their flaws, but their potential.
Puck it chapter 4 liveblog
btw @bipercabeth @jasonsmclean enjoy <333
under the cut because this is going to be long af
He doesn’t want Jason to think he doesn’t respect Annabeth, but he also doesn’t want to break his promise to her. But that promise is already broken. Jason already knows. And Percy really can’t handle the thought of Jason thinking he doesn’t respect women. “You have feelings for her, don’t you?” Jason asks, his tone a bit lighter, eyes a bit softer. Percy sighs and the words rush out of him on the exhale. “Yes I do Jason I’m so fucked please help.”
ME SCREAMING A LOT!!!!!!!!!!! they matter so much to each other omg. and Percy having loyalty to Annabeth even in this, I am DECEASED
A sigh falls past Jason’s lips; his shoulders deflate and he ducks his head with a slight nod. “I figured, but I also figured I need to say it straight up. I can’t get mad about you not telling me when I’ve been keeping this from you.” “Trying to keep this from me.” Percy takes a risk and grins slightly. “I’ve known for a while now. But I appreciate the honesty. I don’t want this to be something we fight over. We’re better than that.”
DARLING IDIOT CO-CAPTAINS WHO ARE BEST FRIENDS
That’s… a lot of ‘no’. But I respect the last one. I’m glad you guys prioritized, I guess. But you’re seriously okay with all of that? That’s gotta be a lot on your mind.”
“Yeah, I guess it is. But it’s worth it to be with her. Like, the sex is great, but she’s just so good to be around. I’m definitely saying it all wrong, but something just… pulls me to her? It’s hard to explain. She’s not an escape from everything, but she calms it all down. Like at the first party, I wasn’t doing well, and Annabeth gave me a way out. Then we just kept talking, and she was going to walk home alone, and I— one thing led to another.” Percy sighs and messes up his hair. “Sorry, I don’t mean to make this about me, but if we’re getting it all on the table, you deserve to know why.”
PERCY JACKSON IS IN LOVE WITH ANNABETH CHASE IN EVERY SINGLE FUCKING UNIVERSE
“Wow, we’re so fucked.” Percy can’t help but laugh. They’d realized their feelings within 24 hours of each other and still took an entire month to talk about it.
FIRST OF ALL THIS IS THE MOST HOCKEY THING IN THE WORLD AND WOW!!!!!!!!!!
“Should we pay him for his emotional labor? I feel like we should pay him for his emotional labor.” Jason jokes.
I CACKLED
“I accidentally rigged Secret Santa on purpose.”
OF COURSE YOU DID PERCY! OF COURSE YOU DID
“I knew you’d be mad if I rigged it just for me to get Annabeth, so I rigged it so you’d get Piper, too!” Percy holds out a fist, waiting for a fist bump. “You can thank me now or later, whichever you prefer.”
PERCY JACKSON YOU ARE THE GREATEST
Except Jason wants to be so much more than that.
Ever since the Halloween party, Piper’s been talking to Jason a lot more than she did before, and she talked to him a fairly decent amount before the party. Of course, she’d gotten so ridiculously drunk at the party that she ended up puking so she apologized profusely to him for putting him through that, even though he’d wanted to stick around. (Oh man, he’s sounding cheesier by the second when it comes to her.) Since she’d been so wasted, he doesn’t want to bring up the dancing to her, especially since he’s convinced she’d only danced so close because she’d been so drunk.
Still, there’s a tiny part inside of Jason that hopes maybe she’d been aware of her actions even though she’d been drunk.
Jason’s always been a rule follower. It’s a fact, plain and simple. He sometimes bends the rules when they’re unfair or unjust, but overall he doesn’t dare break them. Especially when it comes to hockey. He’s not one to defy his coaches or trainers or talk back to his captains (before he became one, of course).
But now with the stupid no dating rule, Jason’s tempted to defy his coaches, which scares the shit out of him.
LOUD LONG SCREAMING JFC JASON *SHAKES HIM* THAT’S SO FUCKING ROMANTIC I WANT TO DIE FUCK YOU BOTH
But the smiles and jokes have made him only want to break the rules more.
YOU LOVE HER YOU WANT TO MARRY HER YOU WANT TO HAVE HER BABIES
Annabeth swings a leg over Percy and leaves him stranded on her bed, his hands still fastened to her headboard. One second he was on top of her, kissing down her neck with the intentions of going far lower, and the next she had him flipped and restrained. Suddenly she was pressing down onto him and teasing him relentlessly, forcing him to beg for release (which she’d eventually granted, but only after making him beg). Annabeth and that damn tie.
oh my fucking god this entire scene was so fucking hot!!!!! also how’d you know that hockey and bondage is like a thing 👀👀👀👀
ajklfdsjfdsladsfjaklfsdajlkfdasjlk annabeth being jealous, annabeth tying him up, Percy with that satisfied smirk I just
So he pushes his heart out of where it had leapt into his throat and sits back down on the edge of the bed, pulling her into his lap as he slides back. She follows and Percy pulls her face to his, letting her set the pace and meeting her there movement for movement. If he can’t claim her as his, he’ll be damned if he doesn’t show her that he’s hers. - I WANT TO DIE
that’s all he wants right now. That’s all he’s going to want for a very long time. WELL I’M IN A GRAVE RIGHT NOW GOD THAT’S ROMANTIC AF
Matching with your boyfriend? That’s cute.” Annabeth says from behind him.
Percy turns to look at her, fully taking her in for the first time today. She’d followed the ugly sweater rule, but only barely. It wasn’t one of the gaudy or loud ones he knew would make an appearance tonight; instead she’d settled on a light blue turtleneck sweater with grey squares making up that classic Christmas print and setting off every different shade in her eyes. She looks more cute than anything.
Her eyes are fixed on his sweater, which is black with red details and the word ‘HO’ stitched onto the front. Percy feels heat flood his cheeks as he tries to play it off, but it’s only a matter of time until the entire team sees Jason’s matching ‘WHERE’S MY HO AT?’ sweater. - OK NO NO NO YOU CANNOT DO THIS TO ME!!!!!!!!!! THEY DEFINITELY MADE OUT EARLIER AND I WANT TO MURDER NO GIVE ME ALL THE FUMBLING FIRST KISSES OH MY GOD
“It’s a Rangers sweatshirt.” He says slowly. “You hate the Rangers.”
“To be fair, I still think they suck. Islanders for life and all that. But what do you think?” Her voice betrays her smug words. - THE NEW YORK RIVALRY I AM DEAD AND BURIED OH THIS IS THE SWEETEST THING ANNABETH
Annabeth doesn’t pull away or refuse him though, so he holds on for a bit longer than he should, one hand resting on the back of her head and holding her to his chest while the other finds her back. Her arms loop around his waist, her fingers lacing behind his back. Percy takes in as much of this moment as he can before she pulls away, because he knows he won’t be the first to do so.
When she does pull away, it feels almost reluctant. He lets himself believe that, cling to that for a moment as she looks up at him with those big gray eyes. And as she does, Percy realizes that he is completely and utterly ruined for anyone except her. - JFC I’M A WRECK
“You know at some point I’m going to need to see this on you.” - POST HAT TRICK SEX, I CALL IT
“You,” he can’t help the way he leans into her, far too close to be out in the open like this, “are impossible, Chase.”
“I’m flattered.” Annabeth scoffs. - THESE ABSOLUTE DORKS I LOVE EVERYTHING
As long as Annabeth is here, Jason’s ultimately edged out. - OUCH
“Bisexual people exist, Leo. ”  - HE’S ALREADY SMARTER THAN ALL HOCKEYS EVER, SORRY JASE I LOVE YOU BUT YOU’RE TOO SMART FOR THE NHL
Thanks, captain.” She takes the cup back and takes a sip and Jason would be a dirty liar if he said he didn’t stare at her lips the entire time. - ME: DYING
The consequences might be worth it, though. - YES JASON GO AFTER HER
“I didn’t say it was for me,” is Reyna’s cool reply. - I LOVE EVERYTHING SO SO SO MUCH OMG REYNA GETTING A DILDO!!!!!!!!!
Before Percy can look at Annabeth, his head whips around and he settles his glittering green eyes on Jason. “I know what we’re doing tonight,” he stage whispers as he winks.
“Do you guys need condoms? Some lube?” Connor asks, lifting up his newly gifted bottle of lube and box of flavored condoms.
“Don’t worry. We’ve got a nice supply,” Percy responds, wrapping an arm around Jason’s shoulders.
“Percy, not in front of the kids,” Jason complains, and he’s not embarrassed until he sees Piper giggling behind her hand. - *BOUNCES* GIVE ME THE BACKSTORY - hockey fandom has corrupted me and now I ship them to a ridiculous degree *shrugs*
Inside the box lays a brand new hockey stick. When he says brand new, he means brand new. The paint is shiny and glossy and he can just imagine how it’ll feel when he uses it on the ice. It’s white, blue stripes painted onto the butt and the bottom of the shaft, just before the blade. On the heel of the stick, he can see GRACE 1 painted in red letters. It’s the nicest hockey stick he’s seen gifted to a college player. The only thing he can compare the quality of this is to NHL and Olympic equipment. - I LITERALLY SCREAMED OUT LOUD LIKE IN MY DORM A VERY HIGH PITCHED SCREAM PIPER MCLEAN PIPES BABES YOU GOTTA KNOW PLEASE
god every single one of the gifts just demonstrates how well they know each other, how much they love the other person already and I am in TEARS
Holy fuck, Piper did that. - MY REACTION SAME
the two California kids bonding over their warm state and the fact that they’ve found a home on the ice - say with me AWWWWW
“Jason.” She takes a step closer to him. “I want you to have it. You deserve it. You love hockey and…” She falters and she bites down on her bottom lip. “I wanted to give you something meaningful. I just didn’t have the guts to do it without using Secret Santa as my excuse. I’m just so lucky I got you.” - dfaslkdjfdsajlkdfsjaklkjdfslakljdsajlfsdkakljszdfjoirewaklcszioojewfkmflsiouearwjoweiofjfdwerijefojfeidljfiawfjcewuoirijffuiwoewjdkoeioewuoriwejafwK
THAT’S ROMANTIC AF PIPER
“Shut up.”
Before he can think straight, her arms wrap around his shoulders and she angles her face up until he feels her lips press to his. He doesn’t hesitate to bring his hands up to her hips, holding her there and soaking in the fact that this is real. Here he is, giving into the temptation, allowing his heart to win the ruthless battle over his head. All rationality and self-control go out the window as he focuses solely on kissing her. Her lips taste like peppermint and are just as soft as he’s imagined them, which also brings back the influx of memories of the persistent daydreams that’d plagued his mind for weeks. Yet every expectation pales in comparison to this moment. He feels like he could melt from the heat coursing through his body, engulfing him in a fiery embrace. - FALLS ON THE FLOOR, SCREAMS, COMBUSTS - god you guys write the romances so well, they’re totally unique and this was PERFECT
Nothing,” he lies easily. While he usually can’t lie to save his life, he finds this lie effortless. “She was just being a good friend, Percy. Nothing more.”
A look of disappointment floods Percy’s face. “Really?” he asks sadly. “Damn. I was hoping for a good conversation or at least a kiss. I’m sorry, man. That sucks.”
“Yeah.” Jason shrugs and tries to look crestfallen. “Oh, well. Rules are rules.”
“Right.” Percy shakes his head once and sighs. “Rules are rules.” - *buries head in hands* JASON I HAD HOPE FOR YOU, oh well I guess this does mean you can survive the NHL
If this is what Jason has to do to be with Piper, so be it. - OH FUCK
fklasfjslkdafjskldaajfklsd guys this was so fucking good and beautiful and perfect and the perfect mix of angst and fluff and I JUST WOW
jan, march, sept + one of your choice, love. have a great day, u icon
thank u kyra i adore u
january: what was the first fic you posted this year?
the first fic i posted this year TECHNICALLY was the epilogue of a different path. the first standalone was chewbacca (aka my introduction to the jily world once again and i have such a soft spot for it)
march: do you listen to music whilst writing?
yes! pretty much always; if it’s not music, it’s a TV show.
september: share a comment or review which still warms your heart?
quite literally anything you’ve left on any of my fics BUT there are a few that i hold dear to my heart. i’ll post them under the cut cause they are LONG :’)
ancient: the first fic you ever posted online?
hahahaaaaaaa. it was my own version of rick riordan’s the son of neptune before the actual book was published. it was on ff.net, and the first chapter got 7 reviews, and i felt so good about myself after that lmfao. who knew i’d still be writing 8 years later?
ask me questions!
OKAY so i have 3 top favorites:
from a different path:
okay so i had seen this in someone else’s bookmarks the other day, thought it was an interesting concept—especially since i too love slytherin!percy and strongly subscribe to ofswordsandpens’ headcanons about it—but didn’t give it another thought until i was listening to a video about the cursed child and went: wait, there’s a percabeth hogwarts au that i saw somewhere. and immediately i hunted this down and i’m just in awe? i tore through it. belatedly, i realized that i made a mistake: i didn’t write down my thoughts as i was reading, which is definitely a disservice to you. however, here are a generalized list of things that i loved.
first of all, with hogwarts au’s, there are three main aspects that i look for: plot, characterization, and quality of writing. normally, fics of this size lack one or more of these key factors, but i was astonished to find that the plot is tremendously tight and intriguing (my lip bled from biting it so much because i’ve been stressed to the max), you write these characters with such distinct voices i can easily picture them saying everything—except, of course, now in a little british accent—and your writing flows so well, it feels almost like i’m reading an actual harry potter book, just with percy and co. you also do a masterful job of weaving together aspects of the pjo universe with the established canon of hp.
and there are so many specific things that i love. primarily, the way you write the relationships in this story; not just concerning percabeth (though i will get to that in a minute), but also with each of the interactions between all of the characters. i applaud you for how you handled luke/annabeth and rachel/percy, and the friendship among them all is just incredibly well done. i especially love how well you wrote connor and zoë and just, a lot of characters that i don’t often think about when i think of pjo. grover and percy’s friendship especially is heartbreaking, i just. he’s so protective because he loves his friends and holy fuck i also love how you wrote grover in this. but i just adored how you wrote annabeth/percy—the love between them, both platonic in its early stages and the romantic all throughout, was doubly apparent. i ached when they kissed each other’s cheeks, and i inwardly cheered when she kissed him in the locker room. there was just such a natural progression, to me, of their relationship. and man did i dig it. i’m excited (and maybe a little scared) to see where you take their relationship in the future.
boy, this is getting long. sorry. but some more just little quick things: loved the b99 reference, with both of their competitive natures playing out in a similar way to jake and amy’s. i kind of want to go back and see if i can find any other references that i missed because i was just too engaged in the story to catch them. also, zoë’s death killed me all over again, thanks for that. i like how you’re working the kronos plot in, and i can’t wait to see how the Final Battle plays out. what else? oh! professor hestia? beautiful. eventual maybe professor percy? outstanding. percy kissing the top of annabeth’s head? breathtaking. rachel being a quidditch commentator? earth shattering. (truly i cackled when i saw that.) mrs. o’leary being a cat? incredible. how you incorporated percy’s water powers? stunning.
ooh, this exchange was beautiful and had me cackling it was so in-character:
“None of us are dying.” Connor clarifies. “Not you, not me, not Annie, not the rest of us.”
“I might have to dispute that.” Annabeth says, from Percy’s other side. “Call me ‘Annie’ one more time, Stoll, and I’ll kill you myself.”
Connor only grins at her. “Sorry, love. No more ‘Annie’. Can I call you Beth?”
“No.”
“Anna?”
“No.”
okay, so i just finished chapter nine and i am blown away. sorry for how long this comment was, but a fic of this magnitude truly warrants it. i can’t wait to see what happens next.
i leave you with just two words: “holy shit.”
from a different path:
god, oh my god, am i the only dumb bitch who didn’t get what the prophecy was??
anyway, i stumbled on this fic last year, patiently waiting for its completion, and now that i’ve rediscovered it, i’m so glad i finished it all in one go! i couldn’t imagine the tension of waiting for the next chapter, especially since the tension is so well-crafted!! i hardly noticed the tonal shift even as the story got darker and darker as it led up to the war, and in that way i was reminded of how extremely similar it felt to reading the hp books for the first time! you nailed percy very well i might say, and the awkward-yet-caring relationship he has with his dad. i daresay you gave connor and zoe more characterization than rick riordan himself, and the percabeth you wrote is perfect to the nth degree. i appreciate that you didnt bother with all the love triangle and unrequited feelings nonsense as well.
but i have to say, even as i cried at sally and paul’s wedding, or at dionysus’ quiet mourning for castor, what really struck with me most was the way you handled silena. for that, i have no words. that was a job extremely well done. thank you so much for blessing us with this fic.
from chewbacca (a comment from u!):
A girl in a bright yellow hooded raincoat stumbles into the cafe on one of the slowest nights James has ever seen. Her coat is dripping all over the floor he’d just cleaned (but it’s fine) and when he leans over the counter he sees that her boots match the coat.
First of all!!! Thats the best opening line in the world and nobody can convince me otherwise. I want to become a publisher just so that if you ever write a book, I’d be able to publish it. ( like omg, what an honor??? )
She looks like sunshine, standing there with the amount of yellow in her wardrobe. Briefly, James wonders if that’s her favorite color. It’s got to be.
Im going to quote this whole fic but I really love these lines? Like, you have this distinct style of writiting that I aim to acheive and you’re literally such a rolemodel!!! These are my favorite kind of fics to read. Funny story but I was going through a ‘no thanks Jily’ mood (  a horror, i know !! ) but your fics are just,,,,exceptions? You could write about trash and I’d love it and ask for you to sign me up.
 “Say it again, but convincingly this time.”
ooof this dialogue??? let me breathe
This is the longest he’s stood still since he started working. It’s actually a miracle.
and the funniest person award goes to YOU. also, the most talented and cutest but thats neither here nor there.
james taking care of fleamont, switching off the lights gives me just a nice and realistic vibe? its so simple but i love how you added it.
honestly at this point, ive been sucked again by the fanfic. it feels less like a fic and more like a masterpiece that belongs in a museum but anyway.
“James is supposed to be helping.
James is on his phone.”
ugh i love ur mind. im rereading and its so nice and lovely. even if its like 1am and im exhausted, this fic is sustaining me.
“Do it off the clock, would you?”
PEAK HUMOR
have i mentioned how much i love that scene with euphemia? she seems like such a lovely mom. i love ur euphemia the most. and ahh, both of them just rushing to the hospital ? another 100% good scene.
“Euphemia smiles too, but looks at Fleamont rather than at her son. “Yes,” she says. “It really does.””
fic? or shakspeare? HMMM
A girl in a bright yellow hooded raincoat stumbles into the cafe on one of the slowest nights James has ever seen // “Get fucked.”
the fic!! has made a circle!!! i love how it begins and ends along the same lines. I really want to know how??? are you so talented im in love.
i just really love this fic, okay? i love how james is just the kindest, lily is allowed to have feelings, its just so soft and warm. and it makes someone feel loved, want love anyway.
the dynamic between the characters are just so real and great and im astounded, in short.
your sirius is everything. so many fics potray him as a dick??? which is first of all #rude and also, not at all true. you made me love these characters even more so i sincerely hope you never stop writing.
you’re such a beautiful writer and the way you string words together is just poetic and gorgeous and all the other good adjectives you can think of. i read your spiderman x reader too and i was a goner for you. EVERYTHING YOU WRITE IS SO GOOD. i read it so long ago but i can vividly remember peter whipping the mask off and she just going wtf stop on the window ledge. what im trying to say is that you leave this lasting impression on people that make them remember random scenes and words / prose long after they’ve read it which is a remarkable feat, i believe.
and im so sorry im not on tumblr rn bc i cannot keep recing this fic but i have told my friends about your writing and they loved it too. you’ve got like a million fans. when i do get back from my hiatus, im going to keep recing your fics and people will cry because their universe will shift thanks to the newfound joy of your presence in their life.
lastly, im more of a dog person and that, more than anything, should tell you how much i love this fic. i love u. and basee on your writing, i want to hug you, be your best friend and make you cookies bc again
Solangelo: First Day of Camp
This is my first Tumblr post, and it’s the first part of a little series I’ve been writing about the adventures of Nico and Will after Blood of Olympus and into Trails of Apollo. The first chapter is mostly fluff with almost everyone in the Heros of Olympus series. I promise lots of Solangelo to come.
Yes I know about the spelling mistakes. I wrote this on my phone since I’m currently doing field work, and my laptop doesn’t have Internet.
Warning contains fluff of Percabeth, Jasper and Frazel.
First Day of Camp
Nico walked into his cabin and slid down the closed door. He titled is head back and smirked. Today had been the one of the best days of his demigod life.
It was his first day out of the infirmary. He has spent several days there under the watchful eye of Will Solace while he recouped from using too much underworld magic. He had almost faded into the shadows permanently. That morning Will gave him one last check and said he was good to go, and not to push the shadow traveling. “That means staying at camp for awhiel” Will smiled with a smug face. Nico attempted to smile back at Will. He hadn’t smiled in so long it felt unatural. The healing son of Apollo had been so nice to him the past 3 days.When Nico ate lunch or dinner Will would pull up a chair beside Nico’s bed and talk to him about pretty much everything. He wanted to try and show him he appreciated everything he had done.
His smile must have been pretty awkward looking, because it made the smug look fade off of Wills face and turned to pure amusement. Crinkles appeared around his blue eyes. His skin was tan, it made him look like he was glowing. He had lots of freckles across his nose.The bright blonde hair didn’t help with the glowing. Maybe all children of Apollo glowed. Nico caught himself staring and lowered his head. Will was very good looking, and sweet, and kind, and funny, and kinda annoying. Kinda like apollo now that Nico thought about it.
Stop thinking like that he thought to himself. Will was way out of his league.
“Thanks for everything Will” Nico said.
“No problem. It’s what I’m good at. Healing demigods. I guess my siblings got the lame gifts from my dad” he joked. Nico did his awkward smile again, “I’ll see you around”
“I’ll see you at the campfire tonight. Promise to save me a seat?”
“Sure. I’m not much for the campfire though. I don’t sing.”
“Don’t worry about that I’ll sing enough for both of us”. He gave a dazzling smile. Nico felt himself flush a little. “Anyway, see you” Nico said as he jumped off the bed, and hurriedly grabbed his sweater leaving the limfimary.
When he got outside he could see that the sun was almost all the way up. Campers were already beginning to head down to the dinning Pavillion. Nico followed suit.
For breakfast he had some eggs over easy, toast, chocolate milk, and some orange slices. Pretty much his perfect breakfast after McMuffins. He scanned the dinning Pavillion and then went to sit at the Hades table. When he sat down and was about to dip his toast in his eggs Jason came and sat across from him with Piper.
Nico smiled again. He liked Jason. The guy was pretty much the only friend he had at camp. Wow he was now up to 1 really close friends. He was gonna have to pace himself as to not get too popular. He smiled at his own joke. “Sword practice with me and Percy after lunch? If the big three cabins team up could be alot of fun.” Jason offered sounding excited.
“Sounds great. I’d really love to get back into practice” Nico said.
“Then if you want Nico the Aphrodite cabin is helping rebuild some cabins do you want to help?” Piper asked.
“Ya, sure I guess.” Nico didn’t know how he could help. He wasn’t that great of a decorator, especially compared to the aphrodite kids. Nor was he as good at architecture as the Athens kids.
Piper smiled. Nico felt himself smiling again this time he didn’t need to force it, it just happened.
Piper then went on telling Nico and Jason about her plans for making the new minor god cabins Jason had promised to build feel more homey.
After breakfast Nico followed Jason to the sword arena. Percy must have been there already there his bag was laying on the bench. They looked around and couldn’t see him. Mrs O'Leary was in her corner eating a large bowl of food. She looked up as they walked in and wagged her tail excitedly. Nico walked over and scratched her ear as she went back to devouring a truck load of kibble. “Huh, I wonder where Percy is? He can’t be far” Jason thought out loud.
Jason went to open the equipment storage room to grab some new dummies and quickly shut it again.
“What?” Nico asked.
He walked forward and opened the storage room door before Jason could stop him. Percy and an Annabeth where leaning against a hanging punching bag very much entangled. They where trying to hope away from each other but with no luck. Percy’s feet were tangled in a celestial bronze net that had fallen on the floor. Annabeth tried to push him off but all of Percy’s weight was against her. Eventually she managed to push him down sideways and quickly brushed her hair with her finger to fix it so it didn’t look so messy. She lowered her head and made a small cough. She quickly got out of the areana without even in ‘Hey, sup?’. Percy looked up from the floor at Nico and Jason. His face was really red but he smirked proudly. He stumbled up and kicked off the net.
“So it would be great if you didn’t tell Chiron about that”
Nico nodded with a smirk.
“Fine I won’t tell Chiron, but I kinda have to tell Piper. She’ll just love that” Jason chortled. “Whatever there Mr.Perfect. Maybe it would do you some good to break the rules once and awhile. I’m sure Piper would appreciate that.” Percy tried to chirp with a half irritated half amused voice.
“What happens between Piper and I is between Piper and I…. and probably her mom” he said.
He didn’t seem very thrilled about that last part. One if the downside of dating a daughter of the love God. “Annabeth tells Piper everything so she probably already knows” Percy said.
“Let’s save Percy some dignity and get to practicing.” Nick said with a smirk as well.
Sword practice left Nico feeling sore and extremely sweaty. On the bright side he had managed to beat the snot out of Percy after losing embarrassingly to Jason the first round. Percy seemed pretty tired. Nico wondered if it had anything to do with sneaking around early in the morning to snog Annabeth.
At lunch Nico sat with Frank and Hazel. The twelfth legion was leaving after lunch to head back to New Rome. Hazel and Frank were so cute with each other. Frank held her hand under the table hoping that Nico wouldn’t notice. When Nico turned around he noticed out of the corner of his eye that Frank would sneak kisses on her tempel. He was so happy Hazel had found the big gallout. He may look like a buff war commander, but he was rally just a giant cuddly teddy bear with her. It made him feel better about staying at Camp Half Blood. Frank would keep her safe. Not that she needed Frank. She was perfectly capable of cutting down anyone who angered her. But it was his sister and you just never get over the feeling of wanting to protect your siblings.
Nico patted Frank on the back and kissed Hazel on the cheeks and said his goodbyes. “Hopefully I’ll see you sooner than you think. I’ll stop by new Rome whenever I can shadow travel again.”
Nico then headed towards the cabins. There the Athena kids had set up a bunch of tables that had building instructions and plans laid out. Annabeth was talking the Piper about the plans. She pretended the closet incident hadn’t happened. But Piper gave Nico a smile and rolled her eyes.
“So Nico we were wondering if you wanted to help the Hermes kids rebuild the celeing on the Zeus cabin.maybe you can scare them into being prodictive” Nico nodded.
“I can do scary”
The Hermes kids were the most unorganized bunch of half bloods Nico has ever had to work with. Only a third of the cabin did any work at a time. Most of the time they were trying to prank each other by sneaking fake spider down backs, flinging paint at each other, and trying to steal things from unsuspecting passers-bys.
“I have a better idea. How about we make other peopel do the hard work” Nico said to Annabeth.
Connor Stool came over and said “Anything to make this go quicker. I don’t think I can keep getting paint thrown I my mouth”
Nico concentrated. He felt to see what was far below him. Hmmm some bones of a squirrel, farther down something that felt like a drakon, then BINGO. He raised about 8 ghostly skeletons. Where they came from he didn’t know. Sometimes he felt as if skeletons just showed up whenever he was looking for them.
“Do whatever Annabeth here says to fix the cabin” he ordered. He looked over at Annabeth.
“There all yours” Anabel smiled as if she was impressed. The aphrodite kids a d some of the Hermes kids looks scared yet interested. Annabeth started giving out orders.
Nico sat down against a tree and watched as his skeletons took over the build. Summoning those skeletons had made him very tired. Probably a repercussion from overusing his powers. His head swam slightly. Piper passed him down some water.
After the build was complete the skeletons crumbled back into the earth. One left a giant blue patch in the ground when he melted from the bucket of paint that the Julia Fiengold had ‘accidently’ dropped on it.
At dinner Nico grabbed a burger and some fries. He dropped half his fries in the fire saying a quick prayer to his dad. As he was walking back to his table a bunch of campers waved at him, and said hey. One guy from the Hepheastus cabin even fist bumped him. Nico felt awkward and uncomfortable again. He wasn’t use to people being so nice to him. Maybe coming back from a super dangerous quest made you instantly popular?
He ate quickly and then went back to his cabin. He quickly changed and showered. Then threw on a black wool sweater. The sun was setting and it was getting cold. He headed down to the campfire. A few people were already there. Nico looked around for Will but saw no blonde hair among the group. Then he quckly looked down at his feet. What was he doing getting all excited to see Will. He was being stupid. Jason and Piper came up behind him. Jason sat beside him and Piper sat down in the grass. She laid her head against Jason’s knee.
She started humming a song Nico didn’t know. It was kinda catchy yet sickening (like all campfire songs). Once she stared humming most of campers stopped taking and started listening. Although she didn’t mean it her charm speak often wove into her singing making everyone want to stop and listen. Jason stared playing with a piece of her hair.
“We don’t even have to try, it’s always a good time” Jason chimed in out of tune. Piper smiled widely. The sun had gone down and her face shone beautifully in the fire light. Jason leaned down the kissed the top of her head and she began to sing too. “Whoa-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, whoa- oh-oh” Soon others had joined in. An Apollo kids pulled out an acoustic guitar. How cliché Nico thought as he moved his head to the rythm. Never on beat tho.
Soon they were singing clasic campfire songs. The ones that were super annoying yet really fun to sing.
About two songs in Will Solace sneaked up behind Nico and plopped down beside him. There wasn’t much room and he ended up knocking some Ares kids backwards off the bench. The Ares kid looked pretty mad, but then they decided to get revenge later and went and sat with some pretty Aphrodite girl. Butterflies stated flapping in Nico’s stomach once Will sat down he was squished in so he was touching Nico. Nico was having trouble calming those stupid butterflies.
“You said you would save me a seat” Will teased.
“ I did. But I wasn’t going to tell that big Ares kid to go somewhere else”
“I’m just poking fun at you. No big deal. So has anyone started Bohemian Rhapsody yet?” he asked.
Nico didn’t know what that meant. “UMmm I don’t think so yet”
“Great” he smiled “It’s the only song I’m any good at. Don’t have the natural music talent like my brother”. He pointed to the guy with he guitar.
Will was right he wasnt a good singer. But he sang so enthusiastically it didn’t matter.
At one point during a song called 500 miles Will placed his arm around Nico’s shoulders. Not on top of his shoulder like Jason would do to annoy Nico. No w Will’s arm was around his shoulders. His hand was lightly holding his arm on the other side. Nico stiffened. He didn’t like being touched. Will kept holding him. At the corus everyone started bouncing up and down in their seats. Will took this time to pull Nico a little closer while everyone one was per occupied. The buttefflies that had begun since Will sat down started doing backflips. Nico tried to relax and let Will pull him a little closer. He looked over at Will. He was practically shouting the corus like everyone else.
“ DA DA DAH!” one side would shout. “DA DA DAH” the other side would shout back.
Will noticed Nico looking at him form the corner of his eye. He gave a small side smile at Nico. Nico turned red and tried to join in the shouting that was passing off as singing. He was slightly behind so that he would be still going for half a second after everyone else. Jason had been watching the whole exchange. He winked at Nico. Nico threw him a face.
As the night drew in Nico got very tired. It had been a very long day. Sword fighting and summoning the dead took alot out of a person. His head nodded slightly as he fought to keep his eyes open.
Eventually during the song We Are Never Getting Back Together he noded off so strong his head rested on Wills shoulder. Once the song was over he snapped out of it and jumped up.
Will shook him slightly. Smiling like an idiot. His face was glowing in the camp fire light. “Can I walk you to your cabin before you fall asleep right in the middle of the sing along?”
Nico nodded, and got up with Will. They walked beside each other towards the cabins. It was pitch black away from the campfire. Nico had no problem, but he noticed Will kept tripping slightly when the ground went uneven. His hands had retreated to his Hoodie pocket. They seemed to be clenching and twistung in one another. Once they got to the Hades cabin Nico went to say thanks and goodnight, but Will spoke first.
“UMmm hey Nico. I was wondering…… UMmm I mean if you not busy… Or maybe not interested. ….. But I was hoping….. UMmm mm. I’m kinda stupid at this…. UMmm. would you like to spend the day with me with me tonorrow its the day off… And UMmm. I kinda wanted to spend it with you…. I mean if u want…. UMmm if your interested that is?”
Nico paused for a moment. The butterflies in his stomach had migrated to his throat making it hard to talk.
He managed a weak “ya…..Id love to.”
Will smiled then quickly turned and practically ran back to the campfire. Nico walked into his cabin and slid down the closed door. He titled is head back and smirked. Today had been the one of the best days of his demigod life.
It took him a little while to come to his senses and head to his bed . Maybe camp wouldn’t be so bad after all.
