How drained you feel after interactions with someone can be a helpful measure of how 'yourself' you're able to be around them. The more effort we put into performing or shapeshifting, the more drained we're likely to feel.

any recs for fantasy w queer characters that’s not like squeercore glurge abt a Disaster Gay(tm) whose biggest flaw is social anxiety and is too flustered to talk to their crush
--
It depends how picky you are, to be honest.
If you're fine with prose that's mid-tier AO3 level, just go wade through the indie m/m stuff.
Charlie Adhara's Big Wolf series is about a human FBI agent whose new partner is a werewolf.
Hailey Turner's Soulbound series is a former combat mage doing federal agenty stuff in NYC. It reminded me of early Anita Blake and of the Dresden Files.
I loathed The Last Sun for having a boring rape backstory straight out of 00s BL, but fluffy it was not. Some people around here have recced the series.
--
That whole sector is full of people who sound 40+ and who seem to be drawing from urban fantasy of the 90s. It doesn't mean their books are good, but they don't contain the same literary crimes as those of an author a decade or two younger.
You can always go read mine. Haha.

I need a new series to listen to on audiobook during my commute/exercise/walks etc, but I always feel like I'm rolling the dice with audibook narrators and the sample usually isn't enough time for me to tell. So I turn it over to you mutual and/or booklr. Which of these is the best narrated and/or audiobook experience? (All of them are in my wheel house and on my TBR so I'd be happy with any of them from a premise standpoint- it's just audiobook quality that I'm thinking about here)

My girl Draper & her husband Keane adopted a young drakenar named Harper 💖She's very good at getting into trouble, but just as good at not getting caught.
Which is probably good for Draper's sanity, considering Harper gets to roam the mage college Draper works at.
timelapse & some extra lore under the cut!
Tumblr media
Harper was born from a political marriage and otherwise unwanted, much like Keane, so he pretty much insisted to Draper that they take her in, which she was fine with.
What she was not fine with was Harper making friends with a baby night haunt and bringing it and its siblings home. And then eventually it's mom.
Between Harper and Keane though they did eventually work through it, so uh. The Hailey family now also has 3 large monster dogs.

Oc art time!!! This post was drafted back in march but never finished (i think i started writing it in school-), so i'm finishing it now!!!
Tumblr media
Main crew of Sticky Notes, my original story! Characters are, in order!
Lucien the kitsune! She is the melee/tank of the team, and is the main character! She is agender aromantic asexual, and is left handed! She uses mirror pronouns. She has social anxiety, and is generally quiet. She's the one who's design has changed the most since I originally made her
Skylar is a cat fairy! She is the healer! She is a cis lesbian girl, and uses she/her, fae/faer, and they/them pronouns! She's very energetic, always flying around and never touching the ground, thus her lack of shoes, and is dating Hailey!
Hailey is a witch! He's the mage! He's a cis lesbian girl who uses he/him pronouns. He's a lot more mellow and calm than his girlfriend. Bc i accidentally gave him and Aria like basically the same outfit, he's prolly gonna get a slight redesign in the future
Evelyn is an Avian, specifically a golden eagle! She is the ranger/archer of the team. She's a cis girl who uses any and all pronouns with no preferences. She's Lucien's best friend, and often helps to calm her down in stressful situations. Evelyn's original name was literally just "Ea" (pronounced like "ia" in "Maria"), bc apparently younger me wasn't very creative at times
Aria is a mer, specifically a Beta fish mer, and the Princess of the ocean kingdom Aurora Boreas. She is the monk of the group, using a bo staff as her weapon. She is a cis lesbian girl who uses she/her pronouns. She's dating an octopus mer and witch hybrid named Fauna, so her backstory is kinda like The Little Mermaid except she got with the sea witch. Her outfit is prolly gonna get redesigned bc as previously mentioned her and Hailey have basically the same outfit. Also, she shares the same name as my cat! Although she was named first

1: which oc has the best sleep schedule? the worst sleep schedule?
Jay has a very consistent sleep schedule, 16 hours up, 8 hours down. Esme, on the other hand, tends to be up until 2am or later clubbing with her friends.
2: which oc has never had their first kiss?
Arya, despite being over 1000 years old, has never been kissed. It's mostly because they were fairly unpopular among both Fae courts, due to their unpredictable nature, and they don't want to get entangled with a mortal.
7: which oc has the most cohesive color pallet? the craziest color pallet?
Hailey has the most cohesive color pallete, preferring to dress in soft shades of blue, silver, purple, and green. Ember, on the other hand, dresses however the hell he wants, drawing inspiration from just about any source you can think of.
9: what is one universe/story an oc would fit in to besides the one they live in?
Siv would fit very well in the universe of Arcane. I feel like the gritty magitech world would suit them well.
11: what’s one canon character all of you ocs LOVE? one they all HATE?
Look, who can hate Cisco Ramon? Seriously. That man has less haters than a nun who runs a kitten rescue.
However, there is not a single person among my OCs who actively likes Eobard. Esme, still under the illusion that her father was Harrison Wells all along, still feels amicable towards him, but if she was to know the truth, she'd hate him too.
21: which oc is a lightweight? which oc carries them home?
Despite her raw power as a dark mage, Cassandra can't even take a single glass of champagne without getting all giggly and clingy. Hailey and Jay usually have to work together to get her home.
23: which oc dog ears pages? which oc thinks that’s an ABOMINATION?
Jay dog ears pages. Gina, while alive, would scream at him for it because that's just repulsive, Jason, what are you, an animal???

Release the belief that you're only valuable to others when you're holding space for them. TAKE UP SPACE, TOO. Share your ideas, your emotions, your voice. If they don't like that, they never wanted you--they wanted a mirror. And you were made for more than just reflecting.

found a new favorite series :3
Soulbound by Hailey Turner
im surprise this book isnt talked about a lot/ considering the content of this novel, and the internet's love for Supernatural (the series) and percy jackson, i imagine this would be the perfect read for those who shared the same interest in the genre.
this series has it all, mages, witches, sorcery, detective/ special agent (and not the pretending to be one type too lol ) , found family, werewolves /werecreatures (like weretigers etc) , vampire, demon/angel & alpha/pack shenanigans, mythical deities from different pantheons.
Plus , guessing who the deity is and from what pantheon they are is part of the fun, i pat myself on the back when i got a guessed right.
And best of all, im a sucker for 'Over protective mother hen x Tortured soul with suicidal tendencies' ship dynamic~~~
So yes, make way for A N G S T.
(Book according to order)
Tumblr media
I dont wanna go into details about the book, cause spoilers. So out of context memes will do.

Folks! I've figured it out! The reason why I love Patrick and Jono from Soulbound so much is that they basically have the same dynamic as the fandom interpretation of Arthur/Eames from Inception.
So let me sell you this: an urban fantasy au where Eames is a smooth werewolf baretender without a pack and Arthur is a bitchy mage with broken powers. And then gods conspire to bind them together. <- You'd read that right?? So now, shoo, go read Soulbound by Hailey Turner and give it some traction so I can get my fanfics.
