~ IT'S FATE, RIGHT? ~ ARRANGED MARRIAGE PROMPTS
Tumblr media
requested by: various anons requests: see full requests at the end of the post
Feel free to use and reblog!
Part 1 (kinda): 10 marriage of convenience prompts
Setting/action:
#1 - freaking out briefly every morning when they realise they're sharing the house with their newlywed spouse #2 - finding out new quirks of the other with great fascination #3 - trying to willingly make the other a part of their daily habits #4 - getting that strange feeling in their belly whenever they introduce the other as their "spouse" #5 - being awkward around each other because they don't know how polite or how casual they should be #6 - being nervous because how do you do the married thing? #7 - slowly but surely growing fond of the other #8 - getting used to the other's company and being completely thrown when they're suddenly in a situation on their own #9 - making time to have dates to get to know the other better because you should know your spouse, right? (there's absolutely nothing romantic about it, alright?) #10 - biting their tongue because somehow everything they say comes out as flirty and that's not who they are, right?
Dialogue:
#11 - "We have to be married, but we don't have to pretend we are that lovey-dovey newlyweds when we're clearly not." "I'm just trying to be nice." #12 - "You... look pretty." "Really? You never said that before." "Well, then certainly I was blind." #13 - "Wow, you're actually really fun to be around." "Well, and you really have to work on your compliment skills." #14 - "You don't know how glad I am that fate brought us together. This is much more pleasant than I had thought." #15 - "I think we're doing this pretty well. I am certainly glad to have you by my side while figuring out all this being married stuff." #16 - "Who would have thought we would end up like this?" #17 - "Thank you for being so patient with me." "How I see it, marriage isn't about intense feelings and going all in for one particular moment. It's about making a promise for the future and every day to come to stick it out together and be each other's backbone. What is marriage if not patience?" #18 - "May I ask you something? Why me? It's certainly not because you were madly in love with me. So, why me?" #19 - "We're the bestest of teams, aren't we? Unstoppable! The ultimate duo!" #20 - "Even though this was meant to be a rational affair and just a wise deal, you changed my life. Marrying you was both the best and the most nerve-racking thing I could've done."
(requests: hii i was thinking could you do like a newly arranged marriage thing and like action prompts and dialogue prompts where they haven't gotten too comfortable around the other yet but they're starting to like each other or something 😭 I hope I could explain it somewhat well; Hey could you do an arranged marriage prompt where they don't hate each other but are just nervous around each other ish; arranged marriage secret affection prompts?)

Happy Halloween!!! More Lady Mo? I love your writings!!

Lan Zhan doesn’t want their baby.
Not their baby, he forces himself to think through the blood pounding in his ears. This body doesn’t belong to him. He’s just borrowing it, and the child he’s carrying no more belongs to him than the body he’s wearing. It’s Lan Zhan’s baby. And he doesn’t want it.
For the first time, he’s grateful that Mo Xuanyu didn’t stick around. It’s breaking his heart, and the baby isn’t even his. This would have killed her.
Or maybe it wouldn’t have. She didn’t want to be a bride, maybe she didn’t want to be a mother either, and she and Lan Zhan would have just been in perfect agreement about any child they would have created, and what had to be done about it.
I’m sorry.
I never intended –
This is for the best.
He can complete the mission that Mo Xuanyu died to give him. He doesn’t have to try and stretch it out or leave Lan Zhan behind to raise a child alone. What a mess that would have been, for him to have the kid and leave it behind with a father that didn’t want him. He wouldn’t wish that on any child, especially his ow – especially any child he helped create. It would have just been another terrible, bitter legacy of his to leave behind, an unloved child and a disinterested father.
This is better. This is a good thing.
“Oh, Meimei.”
Wei Wuxian blinks and sees Jiang Yanli kneeling in front of him, rubbing her sleeve over his cheeks for some reason. They come away damp and it takes him raising a hand to his own face to realize he’s crying.
Stupid. There’s nothing to cry over. This is the best thing that could have happened. A baby makes things complicated. Now they can be simple.
“We’ll take care of you,” Jiang Yanli says, pulling him into her arms, and he lets her, because he’s weak and she’s his sister and he feels that familiar roll of nausea even though there’s nothing in his stomach to upset it. “Don’t worry. We’ll take care of everything. You won’t have to – you know, you barely got a chance to see Jin Tower the first time, you should stay past the cultivation conference. Or, hm, I know there’s, well there’s also Lotus Pier. You’ve never been have you? A-Cheng could escort you there and you could see the ponds. We can think of a reason. A-Yao will help.”
Most of what she’s saying doesn’t make any sense, but it’s so comforting to be held by her that he just goes with it. He looks over her shoulder, expecting to see Jiang Cheng awkwardly hovering in the doorway, but it’s empty.
It’s. Empty.
“Where’s Jiang Cheng?” he rasps, even though he thinks he already knows.
She stiffens, her voice taking on a tone that reminds him of Madame Yu. “He went to talk to Lan Wangji. He’ll be back.”
He remembers Jiang Cheng’s reaction when he thought that Lan Zhan had hurt him, and now here he is, crying, and even though it’s stupid, he’s, well, it’s easy to see how Jiang Cheng could look at him and think him hurt, even though it’s not his baby and it’s for the best. But he doesn’t know that.
“Shit,” he curses, pushing himself away and stumbling to his feet. “Oh, no, he’ll kill him.”
He’s spared against Lan Zhan and Jiang Cheng has his core in his chest. Maybe he can’t actually kill him, but blood will be spilled, and both of them are stubborn enough to keep at it until someone does die. Fuck.
Jiang Yanli shrugs, then winces, like she knows that wasn’t the appropriate response. In other circumstances, that would be enough to goad him to laughter, but now he just rushes for the door.
“Meimei!” she calls out, but Wei Wuxian ignores her.
He doesn’t get far, running into Jin Guangyao almost as soon as he steps into the hallway. His eyes flicker to Jiang Yanli behind him, his frown deepens, and then he looks Wei Wuxian up and down once, then does it again, except this time he stops at his stomach. “Ah.”
How does he do that? He’s so lucky they didn’t know each other during the war and that he didn’t know his sister at all, otherwise he would have been made the first time the two of them had a conversation. “Where’d they go?”
“Perhaps it’s best if we leave them to it,” he suggests.
Wei Wuxian stares. “Have you lost it? Jiang Cheng is pissed and he’s going to take that anger out on Wangji. How many more whip scars do you want him to have?”
Jin Guangyao presses his lips together. “He is A-Huan’s brother. In different circumstances, that would entitle him to my protection. But you’re my sister.”
The warmth rushes through him and causes his eyes to sting. It’s all borrowed, all a lie, because he’s not Mo Xuanyu, but his stupid heart is really doing a terrible job of remember that right now. “A-Yao, please.”
He sighs. “All right. Follow me.”

Wing Man Part 7
Fic Summary: Steve 'the Hair' Harrington is your best friend, and is constantly striking out. Sick of this, you two make a deal; you'll wing man for each other. Hooking Steve up with dates is easy, but he finds himself struggling to find you a date. At least, until Dustin starts talking about his new cool friend Eddie.
(1 2 3 4 5 6)
Tumblr media
Chapter Summary: Dustin spills the beans, and Wayne gives some advice.
A/N: Happy New Year! I ran out of steam there for a while but I am bursting with new inspiration and have a billion ideas for new and old fics! Thank you for your patience and support 💜
Tumblr media
The next night after dropping you off at home, there was a storm the likes of which Hawkins had never seen. Lightning lit up the sky through the night like a shitty rave, knocking out the power for Forest Hills Trailer Park for the better part of two days. It wasn’t until Saturday, when Eddie attempted to check in on Ronnie again, that he realized that their worn out phone had been completely fried. Shit.
Getting a new one was easier said than done, Eddie and Wayne had to pinch pennies this week after his uncle had been out of work a few days because of a cold, and having to replace a good chunk of groceries that had gone bad sitting in the dead fridge.
Sure, Bev had been nice enough to give Eddie a few extra shifts at the Hideout to help cover but that was a paycheck that wasn’t going to be in for another week. There was always his dealings, but he’d been keeping his head down after nearly having his stash blown by an over enthusiastic K-9 unit that, thankfully, was more interested in the jerky that Eddie had in his jacket.
For a week, he’d been without a phone now. Normally it wasn’t a huge loss, not many people actually bothered trying to call him anyway, and Wayne didn’t really socialize much working the night shift. But he missed Ronnie, and he really was stressing each day that went by that he didn’t call you. Eddie knew that whatever this was, he was probably already blowing it.
Tuesday rolled around again, and he hoped that you’d show back up to the Hideout. Jeff had even agreed to give most of the band a ride if Eddie agreed to haul their equipment and do all of the breakdown in case you needed another ride home. No such luck though, unbeknownst to him Keith had come down with the same cold that his Uncle Wayne had the week before, meaning you had to work a double.
It was now Friday, over a week since you’d written your name in the most stubborn permanent marker he’d ever come across. Your name still stained his skin in a faint and ugly shade of pea green. Eddie could now say your number by memory, despite never having punched in the digits once. If anyone at school had noticed that Eddie ‘the Freak’ Munson had a girl's name on his arm, they didn’t say anything.
“Whose number is that?” Mike asked in the middle of a time out while Zach and Gareth were pouring over the rule book over the legality of a move that Eddie was sure was bullshit. So much for that.
Eddie’s head snapped over to the freshman while those in Corroded Coffin snickered and suddenly lost interest in the rules for the moment. With the candles and stage lights on, it was always warm in the Hellfire room, and Eddie had stripped his jacket giving his arms a chance to breathe while he guided the party on their next adventure.
It had also meant that the faded remains of your number was still visible, which he hadn’t thought much of until Mike had pointed it out.
“Yeah, Eddie, whose number is it?” Jeff snickered, which earned a hard look from Eddie that under any other circumstances would have shut Jeff up but in this case only made him laugh harder.
For a moment he debated internally about putting his jacket on, and telling them all to shove it. It was tempting, very tempting, but Eddie wasn’t a teen anymore. Hell, he had a good two to three years on most of the members in this club. Why should he be embarrassed because a cute girl had some sort of interest in him?
Because you’re blowing it by not being able to call her. He told himself.
Eddie then told the table about how you’d given him your number right before he dropped you off. How you’d been a perfect gentleman and hadn’t taken advantage of him or made any untowards moves to him. (Even if he had thought you almost did, but he kept that part to himself).
To his surprise, the ribbing was kept to a minimal. Without Eddie fighting against it, the group became less interested. Eddie’s love life was only of interest when it meant that the sheep could finally have some fun with the shepard.
That was going to be the end of it. Jeff had conceded that the rule they were looking up had been an old house rule from his middle school group that he had never questioned as not actually being accurate, and they were ready to move on. Eddie opened his mouth to guide the party to the next encounter-
“I thought you said you weren’t interested in her.” Dustin suddenly said. Eddie had thought that the shrimp had been suspiciously quiet for the past few minutes.
“If that was him not interested then I’m quitting Hellfire to be a cheerleader.” laughed Gareth.
“No one wants to see you in a miniskirt, man.” said Mike.
“They have guy cheerleaders!” protested Gareth. “I’d wear the pants.”
“That’d be a first.” ribbed Zack.
“Don’t you have to be crazy strong to be a cheerleader? Gareth, your strength stat sucks.”
“I haul my own drumset every week!”
“Can we get back to the game?”
“Eddie,” Dustin spoke up again. His brows were furrowed and he was messing with his pencil, the same way he did when someone in the party was about to do something that didn’t make any sense. “You did say you weren’t interested.”
So much for Eddie’s love life being of no interest, he now had a herd of sheep looking at him expectantly, no longer talking about Gareth possibly changing after school activities. He should ignore it, get everyone back on track, and lead them back into the Forbidden Caves where he was not tempted to throw a mimic in for messing with the flow of the game.
He should... but Dustin’s comment bugged him for some reason.
“I never said that.” Eddie said, looking at the kid.
“What? Yeah you did!” Dustin looked as shocked as Eddie felt. When had he ever said he wasn’t interested in you?
“Oh yeah, when?” Eddie crossed his arms and leaned back in his throne, his eyes narrowing.
“At the arcade!” Dustin sounded frustrated. “You told me that you didn’t want me introducing you to anyone when we were doing Hellfire related shit, and that you weren’t interested anyway.”
The warmth from the candles and stage lights were nothing compared to the heat of everyone’s eyes on him. What the fuck was Henderson even talking about?
Oh. Oh what the fuck?!
“Excuse me?” Eddie said slowly as that thirty second conversation started to play in his mind.
“Yeah, I remember that.” Mike added, in an attempt to back up his friend. “We just assumed she wasn’t your type.”
Eddie hadn’t been looking to be anyone’s boyfriend. He was never looking to be dating anyone, the few times he’d found himself in the good graces of a girl who’d shown interest in him it had always blown up in his face.
That had never stopped him from trying though.
“Are- wait. Back up.” Eddie stood up and made his way over to the opposite end of the table where the freshmen were suddenly looking very nervous. He grabbed them by the shoulders, as he’d done so many times in the past and hauled them up while the rest of the table watched on in amusement. Normally, Eddie would never pause the game but, fuck it. This kid had something to do with you, and he was going to figure out what.
“Jesus, Eddie-” Mike said, wincing at the grip. “I don’t have anything to do with this, it was all Dustin and Steve!”
This was getting more and more confusing by the moment. Eddie shoved the two boys to face them, leaning over them. Even with Mike’s growth spurt over the past few months, somehow Eddie still seemed to tower over them.
“Steve?” Eddie’s voice was slow, trying to understand why that name was even being spoken in the private sanctuary away from jocks.
“Yes, Steve! They’re like, best friends or something! Ask Dustin!” Mike said, throwing his friend under the bus.
“What’s the big deal?!” Dustin asked, looking between Mike and Eddie with a look of bewilderment.
“Henderson, you have thirty seconds to explain what the actual Hell is going on before your character becomes Quasit food.” Eddie said, releasing his grip on both of the freshmen.
“Okay, okay!” Dustin held his hand up in surrender, looking nervous as everyone watched the scene unfold. “So, you know how her and Steve work together? Well, they had a deal going on where they’d help get each other dates.”
Eddie’s head tilted down slightly, but his eyes stayed firmly focused on Dustin. This was making less and less sense by the minute. Steve needed help getting dates? King Steve of Hawkins High who had the pick of any girl in school before he graduated? That Steve Harrington couldn’t get a date and so had recruited you into helping him?
And you, you with the everything about you couldn’t get a date either? Hadn’t you mentioned something about that before, at the Hideout?
“I help him and he uh... he helps me get out of the house.”
You’d said that, and he hadn’t thought much of it until now. All this time, Eddie had thought the arcade incident had been Dustin trying to have his two older male friends meet and be friends, but it had been you that he was supposed to meet?
“So you’re telling me that you, Dustin Henderson and Steve Harrington were trying to set me up on a date?” Eddie looked over at the rest of the table that looked just as bewildered as he did. This was a prank, right? He’d been tossed into some sort of alternate dimension where a freshman and a jock had any sort of interest in his love life, in any part of his life. He’d sooner believe that he’d run a drug deal with Chrissy Cunningham than this.
“Well, technically we were trying to set her up on a date and you seemed like a good fit?” Dustin’s answer came out as more of a question, leaving Eddie’s mind reeling. Behind him, he could hear the growing snickers of the party.
Eddie was ready for this to start making sense any time now.
“So she was helping Steve get dates and he wanted to set her up with me?” Nope, even after thinking it a half dozen times it still wasn’t clicking.
“That part was my idea actually!” Dustin said, showing off a smile filled with metal. “She’s pretty weird and Steve said she was picky-”
“Can’t be that picky if she was interested in Eddie.” muttered Gareth, earning another round of laughter at the table.
Eddie didn’t even have it in him to shoot another look at the table as he continued to try and piece together what was going on.
You and Steve had a deal to try and get each other dates. You were picky and so Dustin suggested Eddie. Steve then brought you to the arcade to force a meeting and-
“Wait, did she know that she was supposed to meet me?” Eddie asked suddenly.
“Oh yeah, she knew the whole time in the arcade.” Dustin nodded, hoping that Eddie wasn’t about to blow a fuse over this. “Well, she figured it out at least. See she was just supposed to be tagging along with Steve to find guys to flirt with but then uh... she realized she was supposed to meet you.”
“And she didn’t know who I was?” Eddie clarified, thinking back to the way you’d tried to talk to him about Hellfire, Chris Morrison, anything to try and start a conversation. How the hell was it that he could remember every time you two met so clearly, but you didn’t know who he actually was?
Because it wasn’t about you, Eddie. He had to remind himself.
Dustin shrugged. “I guess not? She’s never mentioned you before that night.”
Guess not everyone paid attention to the Freak. He hated that it bugged him that you didn’t remember him but could he blame you? He probably wouldn’t remember him either, just a Munson fuck up who everyone was waiting to end up dead in a ditch somewhere.
Eddie pushed Dustin back down into his seat, done interrogating the poor freshman. Everyone watched as he made his way back to his side of the table, behind the DM screen. He had a lot to think about, but he wasn’t about to start processing that in front of the rest of Hellfire.
“You all wander deeper into the cave, the only light coming from the torch carried by-”
“I have dark vision!”
Broke and bored, Eddie haunted the trailer for the rest of the weekend. He did have practice with Corroded Coffin for a generous two hours on Saturday, and then a long shift that night at the Hideout where one old drunk had slipped him a $10 tip for making sure he always had a cold beer in hand. But those few hours were just a minor reprieve from the information that Dustin had given him the previous day.
Tumblr media
When he wasn’t distracted by work or practice he was practicing guitar, working on lyrics, prepping for the next Hellfire session.
He tried to think about you, but ended up feeling confused. When he was trying to think about anything else, all he could see was the way you had flirted with him at the Hideout.
Despite popular opinion, Eddie wasn’t stupid when it came to girls. He could tell when a girl was interested in him, and you had made it clear that you had at least some interest in him. You had told him point blank that you were not with Harrington, and had no interest as well. He’d seen the way you looked at him while watching them play, that excitement in your eyes. Your head had bobbed to the rhythm of their songs watching them with as much enthusiasm as if you’d been a fan for years.
Paige had watched with similar eyes, right? She’d seen something in them that no one else had before-
No. Not them. Not Corroded Coffin. Just Eddie.
It felt pathetic that he kept comparing you to Paige. He didn’t want to, he really didn’t want to. It wasn’t like he was still hung up on Paige, not really. She’d just been a turning point in who he was as a person. She’d been the first (and last) girl to really look at him as a person. If his dating prospects had been small before, they had completely dried up over the past two years.
Date the freak? Yeah, right. There had been the odd girl who’d hit on him as if daring themselves to get with him but he was done with that. A few mediocre dates that he’d agreed to out of boredom or loneliness had only added to the idea in Hawkins High that he was undesirable. Adding to that, the older he got, the younger his underclassmen became and the idea of dating someone younger was... well he didn’t need to add ‘creep’ to the long list of rumors about him. It didn’t matter to him most of the time, instead focusing on his friends, his band, his club, his business, himself. God knows he’d never be able to hold down a relationship unless he got his shit together and earned everyone’s trust again.
“Graduate and get laid, Munson.” Ronnie’s voice echoed in the back of his mind and he groaned as his face warmed. It was the middle of the week, just over two weeks since the night at the Hideout. Eddie was laying on the old couch face down, his homework on the counter half finished and the blue glow of the tv doing little to distract him.
The sound of the door opening didn’t even phase him enough to look up, even as Wayne grunted out a hello before setting something down on the counter next to his forgotten schoolbooks.
“Did you eat?” Wayne asked, which earned a shrug from Eddie. How could he think about eating when he was stuck thinking about everything else?
“Are you gonna tell me why you’ve been moping around for the past few weeks?” Wayne tried again in an attempt to be a good guardian. When that didn’t work either he sighed and said “Might as well step outside with me and have a smoke.”
It was better than doing whatever the hell else Eddie was doing now, and so he rolled off the couch less than gracefully and followed his uncle out onto the porch to sit on the outdoor couch. Wayne offered him the smoke and for a moment it was peaceful. Wayne wasn’t one to push Eddie to talk about anything, but he did have a way to make him think even if it did piss him off occasionally.
Eddie took a long drag of the cigarette and released it slowly as he stared up at the sky. It was a dark night, a million tiny dots illuminating the trailer park, even if the moon wasn’t out. He scanned the stars, looking for the three that he knew were Orion’s belt. That’s about where his astrology knowledge began and ended, but it was something to look for at least.
“I think a girl likes me.” He finally said as he spotted what he assumed was the constellation he was looking for.
“Yeah?” Wayne asked, his own eyes gazing upwards as well, giving Eddie the space to talk more.
“Yeah.”
It was silent again for a few minutes as they smoked, the only other sound for a while was that of Wayne cracking open a beer. That’s what Eddie appreciated about Wayne, he didn’t need to fill the silence like his dad did, and Eddie didn’t need to either. He could just... exist.
“I don’t know what to do about it.” Eddie finally said a while later. “She only has an interest because her and some jock are trying to get each other dates.”
“Is that right?” Coming from anyone else that question would have been dismissive, a filler phrase to show that they were paying minimal attention. Eddie knew better though, which caused a knot of frustration in his gut.
“I guess.” he shrugged.
“How many dates has she gone on?” Wayne passed the beer to Eddie, who took a grateful sip.
“Don’t know. It didn’t sound like she’d been on many. Henderson said she’s picky.”
“But she likes you.”
“Yeah.”
Another long stretch of silence as Eddie stewed over the question. He hated how Wayne could break down his problems into simple questions.
Don’t see why you’re moping around if she likes you.” Wayne glanced over at Eddie. “Are you sweet on her?”
Eddie snorted at the term, taking another drag from the cigarette and flicking the ashes off the porch. “She’s cute.” he said, thinking about how you’d looked the last few times he’d seen you. He might have been distracted that first night at the arcade, but not so distracted that he didn’t notice that at least. “Smart too. She got the guys to listen to her last time we hung out.”
Wayne raised an eyebrow. “She got Gareth to pay attention? That’s a damn miracle.”
“They liked her too.”
“More than the California girl?”
The question caught Eddie off guard and he looked up at Wayne who was still looking off in the distance. Eddie had never explained exactly to Wayne what had happened that first senior year, most of the details going to what happened with Al when Officer Morris was shot. They never talked about how Eddie was so damn close to packing everything up and running away to California.
Thinking about everything that happened that year still stung. Eddie had tried hard not to think about what could have been if CJ and Toby had just shown up one or two days later. Would Eddie have made it to the audition? Would they have really liked him? Maybe in another life he’d be signed and he’d be working on an album or on tour and him and Paige...
It didn’t matter, that ship had long since sailed. Eddie was no rock hero, and never would be. He tried to tell himself it was better this way, if anything it meant that his relationship with Al was over and done with which was a hollow victory if he was being honest.
“Definitely more than her.” Eddie finally agreed. You weren’t asking him to ditch the band and run away with you, so that had to give you some points for them, and for him. Dustin vouched for you, and even Mike, but he wasn’t sure how much that counted for yet. After all Dustin still seemed to worship Steve, and you were friends with Steve-
But did that actually matter? If you and Steve were close enough friends to help each other like this, and Steve was willing to vouch for Eddie, despite never having any real conversation just because Dustin said something-
“She gonna ask you to run away?” Wayne was now looking at Eddie again.
Sometimes he wondered if his uncle could secretly read minds.
“Doubt it.” Eddie said, “She works at the video store. I don’t know much about her, honestly.”
“So ask her on a date.”
“What?”
“She likes you, you want to get to know her. Ask her on a date. It’s not that complicated, Eddie.” Wayne dropped the cigarette on the porch and crushed it under his boot. “You always did think too much, always sucked up in your own world. You’ll be happier in the long run if you open up a bit.”
Easier said than done for a 20 year old still in high school that the whole town considered a satanic cult leader. Then again, when was the last time he’d really opened up to anyone other than Ronnie or Wayne? Right, his dad in the weeks before the heist.
“I think I fucked this up before I could even start.” Eddie sighed, snuffing out his own half finished cigarette. “She gave me her number and I never called.”
“Could’a grabbed a quarter from the change jar and used a pay phone.”
Eddie pressed his hands against his face and dragged them down slowly. Why did good advice always come too late for him?
“Well, I guess it’s a good thing I brought back a new phone for the kitchen today.”
Eddie’s head snapped up so fast he should have snapped something, his eyes widening.
“Don’t get too excited. It’s a new used phone. Guy down the line from me offered it up and it’s better than nothing.”
Eddie didn’t care if it was a rotary phone, he’d take anything at this point if it meant that he could try to call you.
He wanted to call you.
He wanted to call you. Eddie didn’t care if you remembered that first time you met, did it even really matter? You had an interest in him, Eddie Munson, now.
“Thanks, Wayne.” Eddie stood up and hurried inside, seeing the new old phone that was sitting on the counter. It took a few minutes of making sure it wouldn’t fall off the wall before he plugged it in and heard that sweet dial tone sound.
Eddie grabbed his copy of Lord of the Rings from his bedside table and pulled out the paper flower, looking at the number scribbled in his own chicken scratch. He didn’t trust himself to punch in the number without checking, no matter how many times he read the ten digits over the past two weeks.
It rang once.
Twice.
Six times.
No response.
“It’s late, she might be asleep.” Wayne said, grabbing a box of pasta from the cabinet.
It wasn’t that late, not even 8:30 yet. Eddie sighed and hung up the phone, crossing his arms as he thought about his next move. He’d always had tunnel vision when he got an idea into his head, from Corroded Coffin, to his campaigns, to a book that he wanted to read, it was hard to shake the urge when he got one.
Grabbing the keys from the counter he called over to Wayne “I’ll be back later.” which was responded to with a confirmation that he’d save some pasta for Eddie in the fridge.
There weren’t many places he could think of where you could be tonight. You hadn’t shown back up at the Hideout, and the arcade was closed this late on a weeknight. You could be at home, but Eddie didn’t remember where you lived and showing up to your place after two weeks of radio silence would definitely get him in trouble.
So he drove to Family Video.
If you were there he’d do.. something. If you weren’t he’d call you after school tomorrow. Eddie winced internally at the thought. He’d been trudging through school and dragging his feet for the past six years to graduate, and now was the time he felt childish about it. You could legally buy him a beer, and he could illegally sneak you a drink in the Hideout.
At a stoplight he swapped out the Black Sabbath tape for W.A.S.P., remembering that you had mentioned liking them. How did he continue to remember these small details about you?
Because she’s treated you like a human each time you’ve talked. It was startling how something so basic was such a big deal to him.
The lights were still on at Family Video, and the open sign was still lit up. He could see movement inside the store, and he caught sight of someone wearing the signature green vest that the employees wore.
He’d walk in, and if you were there he’d- fuck what the hell was he supposed to do? Eddie stared at the door from inside his van for a few minutes. It was past nine now, and he could have sworn that they should be closed now but that stupid sign was still on. That had to be a good sign right? Eddie wasn’t one to believe in stuff like that but maybe he’d be stupid to ignore a literal neon sign hanging in the door.
Okay, now or never. Eddie had never really been one to hesitate before and he wasn’t about to start now.
He made his way to the entrance and opened the door before he could think about what he was actually wanting to do. Eddie could improvise, it was one of the more useful skills that came from years of running Hellfire.
“Who didn’t lock the door?!” Your voice was a welcome sound, sealing the determination inside of him. No going back now.
“It was Steve’s job to-” your co-worker said. She looked familiar, but he couldn’t place a name to the face.
“Oh, shit. Hi.” Steve was the first to actually notice Eddie as he walked in, looking as if he was expecting literally anyone else.
Turning on the Freak, Eddie smirked at Steve. “Cursing in front of customers, Harrington? Now that’s not very professional of you.”
“Well, we’re closed. You can’t be a customer if you can’t pay.” Steve said, putting his hands on his hips in a way that reminded Eddie of a mother hen. Steve did have a point, and so he decided to cut through any bullshit and looked over at you. You looked like you’d had a long shift, but the way you were looking at him... there was still the same shock that was on Steve’s face, but while his shock was laced with confusion yours was excited. As if you couldn’t believe that The Freak was here and that was a good thing.
“Do you want to get out of here?” Eddie blurted out the request before he could think. He had no idea where you two would go or what you would do but he had to do something.
Your coworker nudged you in the ribs, and your expression changed to a more professional one.
“I- uh. I have to finish closing.” you said, looking at Steve for a split second.
“Steve and I can handle the rest of closing!” Eddie made a mental note to learn this girls name and send her a fucking gift basket one day.
“Guys, I’m literally in charge of you both. I can’t leave before you.” You said, reaching down to grab something from below the counter- your bag. Eddie felt himself growing more excited, his heart pounding as you tossed your work vest and keys over to them. They were basically shoving you out the door to spend time with him.
“We can handle it!” Steve said.
“And I can handle Steve!” Robin added. “We close without you and Keith all the time, remember?”
You stepped out from behind the counter, looking up at him. The color of your eyes under the fluorescent lights reminded him of the stars he had been looking at earlier this evening. Eddie found himself smiling at you as you opened the door for him.
Someone was quick to lock the door and turn the OPEN sign off.
Eddie opens his van door for you, trying his best to make a good impression for whatever was about to happen. You hopped into the passenger seat and he thought that he might enjoy seeing you sitting next to him like this in his van more often.

Learning to Love Part 6
Tumblr media
Pairing: Rafe Cameron x FemReader!PlusSize
Warnings: 18+, langauge, angst, fluff, mentions of bullying, body image issues, fat shaming, fake relationship, eventual smut, minor enemies to lovers trope.
Summary: It's not uncommon for you to be shamed for your size, it is however uncommon to be told that no one would ever date you because of it. Rafe on the other hand is used to being called a jerk, that is until he is accused of seeing people for only what's on the surface. It's purely coicidental you two meet right after these accusations are thrown your way. So even though you two don't know each other, and probably never would've looked the others way before this, now you're both going to prove a point. It's simple really, prove others wrong and don't fall in love. Easier said than done.

Rafe had done a great job at avoiding Matt and Levi since dating you. He was afraid if they started asking questions he wouldn’t be convincing enough. Thing was he couldn't avoid them forever, which is proven true when the client he had met with abruptly left lunch early leaving the three men left to discuss more than just work. So Rafe is sat in the same position he was the day he met you, some beach club during lunch hours, bourbon in his hand, and two assholes sat across from him.
"I should probably get back to the office" Rafe says after one more sip of his bourbon, he had no plans to finish it. He hadn't really needed to numb feelings since meeting you.
"Woah, why such a rush? We have at least twenty more minutes" Matt says with a smirk and Rafe sighs. If he wanted to spend time with these two he'd still be an active member at the country club. He hated when Barry called him country club, he was trying to leave that life behind.
"Meeting is over, I have work to do" Rafe says and a low chuckle escapes Levi's mouth and reverberates into the rim of his whiskey glass.
"He just doesn't want us asking questions about his little girlfriend. Or should a say big girlfriend" Rafe's hand instantly tightens around his glass at Levi's words.
"That's right, Rafe has a new lady" Matt smirks, leaning back in his chair and Rafe does everything he can to not roll his eyes.
"You guys have no right to talk about her" Rafe says with a cold and sharp voice. The boys know they've gotten under his skin, struck a nerve with the hot tempered boy in front of them.
"Listen all we're saying is it's pretty suspicous you start dating big girl right after we say something about how you never date unattractive girls" Levi says leaning forward, his arms crossing over the table.
“Well that’s not the case” Rafe says leaning back, standing his ground. He had grown far too fond of you to let some bitter assholes say anything or assume anything. Even if they’re right.
“If I didn’t know any better I’d say our Rafe here is using the poor girl to prove a point” the sentence makes Rafe stomach churn. Before he had gotten to know you that was the case and he hated how bad it sounded out loud.
“Well you never have known any better Matt and what do I have to prove to you two idiots?” and Rafe had a point. It never was about proving himself to these jack offs. It was to prove it to himself and anyone who ever saw the worst side of him and never thought he could come back from that. His sisters, his Step Mom, all those Pogues he harassed for so long. He had killed someone and it was a burden he had to live with every single day. The least he could do is start seeing people for more than what’s on the outside.
"Nothing, just a little weird you started dating a fatty" Rafe's hand slammed the bottom of his glass so hard on the table both boys jumped at the noise, wild eyes looking at Rafe who seemed far to calm for what he just did.
"Let's not forget who controls your employment status, on top of that you have no right to talk about my girlfriend and her size. Actually anyone’s size for that matter. Considering that it's coming from big nose and pimples over here" and both boys sit there shocked for a moment as Rafe stands, rebuttons his suit jacket, and heads to his truck where he can go back to work and not be bothered by those idiots. He should've fired one of them for the hell of it.
Yet he couldn't shake what they were both saying about you at lunch and they were right about one thing, he did have twenty minutes left. Actually he had all the time in the world left because he was the CEO, he'd pull a late night if it meant seeing you and getting whatever those idiots said out of his head. So his direction changed and he found himself pulling into the empty lot of the bar. He was actually surprised the doors were unlocked when he pushed through them and even luckier he was met with the sight of your back. You leaned over a table, wiping it down for the upcoming shift. You wore your usual outfit, jeans and a T-shirt, this time with the logo of your bar across the back in neon. The door slams shut behind him just as he begins admiring the curve of your ass.
"We don't open for another twenty minutes" you call out without turning and he grins, arms crossing over his chest.
"Damn, because I was really hoping for a drink now" he watches as you perk up to the sound of his voice and he's met with a wide smile when you turn around and face him.
'What're you doing here?" you grin and he chuckles, walking forward and spotting Mila and Randy who watch you both from the bar. Mostly because he wants to and the audience you have, he wraps his arms around you and pulls you close.
"Had some time left on my lunch break, I wanted to see you" he says and that's when you spot the pain in his eyes and you need no explanation as you hug him close.
"How bout a drink on the house, mainly because we haven't put the new drawer in yet" you tell him and he laughs loudly before pressing a kiss to your forehead.
"I'd like that" he says and you nod before locking your hand in his own and leading him over to the bar where Mila and Randy jump to look like they were working and not watching the two of you interact.
"Hey, can you get Rafe something to cheer him up?" you ask when you hit the bar and Mila chuckles as Randy nods.
"Rafe having a bad day?” Mila teases lightly, now more comfortable with him since he had been coming around the house. They had reached a new level of friendship when she dug into Rafe about the hickey he had given you. You hadn't realized how carried away he had gotten either and your neck looked like a crime scene opposed to the small mark you had before. She had bitched about how much makeup it would take for her to cover you up when he had told her not too, that he wanted everyone to know you were his. You had felt that sentence in places you shouldn't of and Mila finally accepted Rafe was in this for real.
"Just some idiot coworkers, my revenge was leaving them with the lunch bill today" Rafe returns as Randy sets the brightest drink in front of him. Rafe's eyes widen at the vibrant red color of the liquid and you can't help but giggle.
"What, you said something to cheer him up. This cheers me up" Randy defends and Rafe tilts his head before lifting the drink up.
"Here's to red dye I guess" he says before taking a sip. You all watched curiously as he gulps the the liquid down.
"Not bad Randy, a little too sweet for my liking but good" Rafe says and he grins victoriously as Rafe takes another sip from the drink.
"Don't listen to him, he likes things sweet" you tease and the minute the words leave your mouth you blush a deep red because you know exactly what it sounded like. Mila snorts out a laugh as Randy wears a mortified look.
"I didn't need to know that" he says and you know your flushed cheeks burn visibly for the whole crowd to see.
"I didn't mean it like that" you mutter out and Rafe feels his heart soar over how adorable you look in this moment.
"Don't worry baby, I know exactly what you meant" Rafe says in a proud way, arm wrapping around the back of your chair, and pressing a chaste kiss to your lips. He pretends it's real, that you're really his girl and can kiss you as much as he likes. After trying to finally turn his life around for the better and allowing someone like you so close he realized how lonely he truly was, it creeping in like a bad cold.
“God, I need to go on a date” Mila groans out and Randy chuckles beside her.
“What happened with that guy from last night? What was his name? Paul? I thought you were trying to get his number?” Randy asks, continuing to clean the glasses for the upcoming shift.
“Pope, and turns out he was with that gorgeous girl with him the whole time” you don’t miss the way Rafe freezes against you.
“Not really a surprise, that whole group was some of the most good looking people I’ve ever seen. No surprise they were all dating one another, they’ve probably swapped before” Randy says as your eyes look up to Rafe who suddenly looks like he doesn’t want to be here anymore.
“They were the ones who found the road to El Dorado, hence why it would’ve been amazing to get his number” you recognize the look on Rafe’s face being one of panic, so you furrow your eyebrows together and put your hand on his thigh.
“Rafe, what’s wrong?” you ask and as if he’s brought back to reality he stands and begins to shake his head.
“I have to go, good luck tonight guys” and he’s rushing out of the bar before you can even process what’s happening. That doesn’t stop you from chasing after him though, pushing open the doors to find him in the empty parking lot, gripping his hair, and breathing heavily.
"Rafe, whats going on?" you call out after him but he starts to pace, not turning to face you. The worry you had for him when he showed up now heightens as you see him experience something similiar to a panic attack. So you do what you know best and rush over to him, arms stopping his movement and locking him in your space. You'd never willing press yourself so closely to him, allowing him to feel the curves of your large stomach pressing against him, making him aware of your size, but you know with the panic in his eyes he won't register what was happening. "Hey, talk to me"
"I have to get to work" he say's trying to pull away but you squeeze your arms tighter around him so he's not allowed to escape. This brings his attention to you, eyes finally locking on your own.
"Listen to me Rafe, we may be fake dating but that doesn't mean in the last few weeks I haven't gotten to know you. That being said I know you're upset about something and there is no possible way I can allow myself to let you get in that truck and drive off knowing the mental state you are currently in" he freezes at your words, not quite expecting such a speech to come from you but he also feels his heart rate slow to a small thrum. You had calmed him down. Nobody has ever been able to calm him down. "Talk to me, I'm a stranger, remember?"
"You're not a stranger" he says with the shake of his head, his own arms coming to wrap around you. He takes a beat, allow himself to collect his thoughts and consider sharing this with you. "Those people they were talking about, those are my sisters friends. Considering she doesn't go anywhere without them it meant my sister had been there. I haven't seen my sister in over a year. It just freaked me out"
"The sister you dont talk to?" you ask and he confirms with the nod of his head. "She's the one that found the treasure?”
"It was almost me" Rafe whispers and you feel your heart break for him. This showed that the issues with his sister was much more than resentment, it was the high of the chase. Willing to do and sacrfifice anything for something as beautiful as ancient treasure.
"It wasn't just resentment" you whisper out and Rafe squeezes his eyes shut, clearly trying to push away memories he doesn't want to recall. It's when your arms loosen around him his own heart breaks.
"I've done things I regret. Things that I wasn't even in control of. My whole life all my Dad wanted was that damn treasure and I wanted to be the one to give it to him. To make him proud and instead he sacrificed himself for Sarah's safety and she got the treasure instead of me. She got everything and all I got was the stupid company he didn't even want me to have" then to your surprise a tear slips free from his eye and he steps away from you to hide it.
"Hey, stop" you grip his wrist, tugging him back. His heart flutters as your free hand reaches up and brushes the stray tear away. "Come here"
And just like that he falls into your embrace. Head landing on your shoulder and hugging you tightly. He hadn't had someone comfort him like this ever. At least since his Mom has passed, you're embrace warm and a reminder of all those time's he came to her with scraped knees and misty eyes. The thought alone makes him cry silently against you because maybe for the first time he was realizing how broken his family had become. He was technically orphaned and he didn't even have his sisters to rely on anymore.
It was crazy how fast they went from sharing bowls of cereal at the kitchen island, teasing each other like siblings should, to picking sides of a hunting war, faking deaths, losing lives, and hurting one another for real. A year of hatred and blind rage had changed the entire course of his life and now he was left all alone with the one thing he never truly wanted. At least he had you, even if it wasn't real. Then again how sad is it that the one person he can rely on is one he had to bargain to spend time with him. His entire life was a sham.
"Take the day" you say and he pulls back, sniffling and looking at you with teary eyes.
"What?" he asks curiously and you give him a light smile, hands gripping his own.
"Take the rest of the day, Mila and Randy can handle it here. Let's just go back to your apartment, watch a few movies and order some pizza" you tell him and his own smile cracked across his face. He took a moment to consider it before nodding and brushing his damp cheeks away.
"Okay, yeah. I do have to stop into the office quick. Then we can go" and you nod, willing to agree as long as he was okay.
"If we stop at the office I get to drive" you tell him, holding you hand out, and he furrows his eyebrows before you give him a stern look which makes him comply, dropping the keys into your hand.
"Goodluck reaching the pedals" he mutters and you roll your eyes before walking towards the bar to tell Mila and Randy you were taking to day with Rafe.
"I bet I drive it better than you"

sweet calamity | ch 7
Wednesday Addams x Reader
Series Summary: It was something people described as the sweetest pain, the feeling of when the soul that’s destined to find yours is closer to you. Wednesday saw it as a curse, promised herself she would hate whoever was chosen for her; but it’s easier said than done.
A/N: This chapter was going to be even longer, but in the end, I thought it was best to split it into two, next chapter should be out as soon as I'm done writing it. Anyway, Wednesday is head over heels in love and I'm not even sorry for it.

Saturday's sun set to what seemed to be an ordinary night, but it was nothing of the sort.
Principal Weems could be seen speed-walking from one side of the big ballroom to another, gesturing wildly to where the fairy lights should actually be placed because someone — Xavier — got her instructions wrong.
The school was royally decorated to the nines; golden lights and a few wooden ornaments contrasting with the white tablecloths set the theme for this year's Rave'n. There were sweet flower arrangements on top of each table too, kindly made by you when Weems told you she wanted something that resembled a new beginning. Everything was ready to receive the students and their plus ones.
While everyone was getting ready, Wednesday sat in front of her typewriter, the sharp sounds of each letter she pressed resonating through the dorm room.
Since last weekend, Wednesday has been dedicating extra time to her writing. It meant she was either really inspired or frustrated, and from the permanent scowl on her face, Enid assumed it was the latter.
The werewolf stood in front of her mirror, her manicured hands adjusting the last details of her white velvet dress to perfection.
"Wednesday?" She started, shooting a side-eyed glance to the back of her roommate's head, "aren't you gonna get ready?"
The typing halted for half a second before it resumed again, "I won't be going."
Enid frowned at her reflection, tucking her hair behind her ears before stepping away. Her heels thudded against the wooden floor as she walked up to Wednesday. "What do you mean you're not going?" She asked as if the mere idea was absurd.
"That I am not going," Wednesday responded sharply, her eyes fixed on her writing.
If this was about anything else, Enid would've dropped it, she knew better than to test Wednesday's patience. But she has been seeing firsthand just how much your absence is affecting Wednesday — and herself, consequently, because living with a moody Addams could be considered torture — even if the girl herself still refuses to admit it.
"So you're giving up?" Enid placed both hands on her hips, knowing very well that her words would get a reaction out of Wednesday. "Just like that?"
Wednesday's frown deepened and she hastily got up from her chair, making it scratch the floor. "I'm not giving up on anything, I never give up."
"You're giving up on your soulmate." Enid dared say.
Wednesday's eyes widened the slightest bit, her posture going rigid. So Enid knows. She didn't know if it was you who told her or if Enid figured it out on her own, but either way, she knew the werewolf would figure it out sooner or later.
Wednesday gulped, trying to keep her features impassive. "I never wanted her in the first place," her voice isn't as strong as she wanted it to be for that line. Wednesday turns around and walks away to look out her window, far down, she could see students already making their way inside the ballroom.
Feelings have never been easy for her. Enid softens as soon as she hears the melancholic undertone behind Wednesday's words.
"But you do now, don't you?" It's not necessarily a question, Enid already knows the answer.
And because of that, Wednesday doesn't say anything. Though her silence is answer enough in its own way.
"You don't need to beat yourself up for it, Wednesday," Enid continues, "it's not a bad thing to have feelings for someone, I mean she is your soulmate."
"That's the problem, Enid!" Wednesday snaps, turning around and taking a few steps closer with urgency.
There's a glistening to Wednesday's eyes that Enid has never seen there before, it gets her own words stuck.
"If I am to-" Wednesday stumbles out, words thick with an emotion she herself can't name yet, "to love her," she tries to take a deep breath, but it turns into somewhat of a sob, "I want it to be my choice."
Wednesday blinks away whatever tears were trying to escape her, "and not some cosmic force pushing us together," she closes her lips in a flat line, the outline of her eyes and the tip of her nose becoming reddish the more she holds everything you've ever made her feel.
She's fighting against herself, against her own heart that beats erratically in her chest. And it was a losing battle from the start.
Wednesday breaks in the form of a single tear sliding down her cheek as a shaky breath comes out. The truthfulness of her own words cutting deep before she even says them; "I want it to be real."
A beat of silence passed and Wednesday finally looked up at Enid, only to see tears shaping her friend's smile and starting to ruin her makeup. The Addams girl scoffed, hastily wiping her cheek, "why the hell are you crying?"
Enid shook her head with a teary chuckle, quickly closing the gap between the two. She circled both arms around Wednesday's shoulders, pulling her in with a strong grip, "how can you be so smart and so clueless at the same time?"
Excuse me? Wednesday thought of saying. She didn't return the hug but did rest her head on Enid's shoulder, though there was a confused frown on her features.
Enid pulled back, resting both hands on Wednesday's shoulders to hold her in place, "just because she's your soulmate, doesn't mean you're gonna love her no matter what, silly."
"What are you saying?" Wednesday asks, and it's the most vulnerable Enid has ever seen her be.
It's endearing.
"I mean, sure your souls are linked and most of the time you're predestined to meet, but your feelings are yours," Enid's smile could be felt in her words, she spoke easily, sincerity overflowing her tone, "they're yours, Wednesday. You're not… predestined to have them or whatever, that would be impossible."
Wednesday keeps silent, her hands balled into fists at her side.
"I've heard so many stories of people who met their soulmates and rejected them, or either tried to be together but the spark was never there," Enid kept going and Wednesday realized she was quite the enthusiast. Not really a surprise; she'd kill for a love story, good or bad.
"Just because you're bonded doesn't mean you'll end up together," Enid shrugged, squeezing Wednesday's shoulders once, "as much as I'd love to believe that everyone who meets their soulmate lives happily ever after, that's as much of a media construct as anything else."
"How did I not find anything about it when I looked it up?" Wednesday asked one of the many questions swimming in her mind.
"That's because you're awful with technology," Enid grimaced, gaining a glare from her roommate.
She took a deep breath in as she let go of Wednesday; "the universe might point your person to you, but it doesn't have the power to control your feelings for them. Wednesday, if you do have feelings for her, they're yours. And they're real."
It was with careful steps that Wednesday walked down the stairs that lead to the ballroom, her hands smoothed out the fabric of her black dress and she could already hear the party's obnoxious music.
With much reluctance, she had taken Enid's words to heart and decided she owed it to both of you to at least try.
Because that was it, wasn't it? Somewhere along the way, Wednesday had developed feelings for you.
She closed her eyes, nails digging into her palms and almost drawing blood to try and feel anything besides that. To no avail and she knew it.
The ballroom was already filled with people when Wednesday walked in, it was dimly lit with blinking lights all around and questionable drinks.
Her eyes skimmed over the crowd as they always did, finding Enid dragging Ajax to the dancefloor, Bianca trying to get a hold of Xavier, Yoko and Divina doing a poor job of being sneaky when stealing from the snacks table, and… you. Wednesday's lips parted in a quiet sigh, the scrunch of her eyebrows softening at last when her eyes finally set on you after what felt like ages.
The feeling that you always brought to her chest washed over her, and Wednesday realized that try as she might, it would never go away. You had ruined her, killing her slowly the further away you went; because she knew what bliss it was to have you close even before any cosmic bond came to light.
It was the universe that, for some reason, decided that your light complimented her darkness. But maybe, it really could be her choice to call you hers if she wanted to.
You had a drink in your hands and a smile on your glossy lips — a smile that's directed at a certain boy but Wednesday doesn't think about that. The dress you wore was a dark shade of purple, almost resembling black when the shadows covered your body.
You were enchanting, bewitching.
Wednesday doesn't see beauty in this doomed world too often, but she seems to always find it in you.
And it's a realization that could be the death of her. But she does. She does want to call you hers.
She just doesn't know if it's too late for that now or not.
Shaking herself off of her trance, Wednesday makes her way to the drinks table, taking a glass of the blueish beverage. She raised it to her lips and took a generous gulp, grimacing at the sweetness of it.
What happens now? Wednesday wonders to herself. What's the next step on this?
Murder mysteries are infinitely easier to solve than dealing with feelings.
"Wednesday," Weems' voice caught her attention. "I'm so glad to see you here."
"I wouldn't miss it for anything," Wednesday stated as she turned to face the principal, her half-full glass held between her fingers, "I can't wait to see what disaster will end tonight's festivities."
Weems chuckles but there's no humor to her tone, "there will be no disasters this year, rest assured."
Wednesday hummed, her gaze focusing behind Larissa's figure to where you were standing; you talked animatedly with Yoko while Andrew had an arm around your shoulders and it made Wednesday grit her teeth, "the night is young still, I can think of a few ideas to make it memorable," she huffed.
"Don't force me to expel you a second time, Miss Addams," Weems warned with a raised brow, but there was a teasing tilt to her tone. She laid a hand on Wednesday's shoulder with a smirk, "enjoy your night."
Weems walked away and Wednesday paid her no mind, because she was suddenly underwater, the more she tried to gasp for air, the more her chest tightened. She was drowning, slowly sinking, going down and down and it's all your fault.
Your hand holds onto Andrew's as he drags you to the dancefloor, silver lights are shaping the curves of your dress as it hugs your body. You're grinning, swaying gently to the song that's playing.
Getting stabbed was way less painful, Wednesday decides, because she could physically feel her heart shattering and it almost made her drop her glass.
Because you're hers. Not his. Not anyone else's.
Your touch doesn't belong to him, your smile doesn't belong to him. It belongs to her.
Her urge is to walk up to you and punch the boy in the face for his audacity. But she refrains — begrudgingly, but she does — for the first time, Wednesday wants to do it right. You deserve as much.
"You can still turn this night around, you know."
Enid had materialized beside Wednesday, taking her by surprise and making her flinch; she curses you for her lack of awareness.
Wednesday scoffed, discarding her drink, "how? She looks sickeningly happy to be dancing with that moron."
Enid bumped Wednesday's shoulder with her own, smiling fondly, "I beg to differ, you don't know how miserable she's been because of you."
It gets Wednesday grimacing, her features falling slightly. "How is that a good thing?" She asks incredulously.
"No, my point is-" Enid shook her head, realizing how badly she had worded her thoughts, "uh I'm pretty sure she would rather it be you and her instead."
Wednesday hesitated, "I wouldn't be opposed," it was quiet, so much so that the music almost muffled the words.
Enid shifted so she was standing in front of Wednesday, blocking her view with a determined look, "then let her know that, ask her for a dance."
"She already has a partner," Wednesday tries weakly, trying to find good reasons to not do it, yet coming out empty.
Enid raises a brow, her eyes shifting to you as the song reaches its last notes. "When did that ever stop you?"
The song ends, and to the many present couple's delights, a slower melody comes in its place.
Your skin is hot and prickly under your dress because of the exertion, it's been a while since you've let loose enough to dance like that. "I could really use a drink," you breathe, pushing your hair behind your ears.
"Sure thing, I'll grab us some," Andrew smiled, his hand going to the small of your back as he leads you to your table before making his way to get the drinks.
You leaned back on the table, your gaze following him for a moment. He's always been nice, and you're thankful to have him with you to take your mind off of things tonight, but try as you might, you can't bring yourself to feel anything for him besides friendly affection. Your heart apparently had already chosen its owner, as much as you wish it hadn't.
Andrew returns, handing you your drink to which you mumble a thank you before taking a much-needed sip. You watch as your friends dance together, dry ice moving with their feet and shaping the lights into something magical. You get lost in it, and in some ways feels like a fairytale.
"Do you still have a dance left for me?"
The sudden voice almost gets you choking on your drink, it's one you'd recognize anywhere and the fluttering in your stomach is nearly instant. You can't decide if you're dreaded or relieved to hear it. You set your glass down, turning to face her.
She has her dark hair up, only a few rogue wisps framing her face; the black dress she wears fits her body to perfection; there's light makeup shaping her eyes and the outline of her lips, it's a darker shade of burgundy than what she normally uses, you think for a moment about how many times you'd have to kiss her for it to wear off. She's hauntingly beautiful, and you think you should be breathing but your brain seems to have forgotten how.
"I thought you said you weren't coming," you managed.
"I wanted to see you," it's a quiet confession from Wednesday, words a little tight because of how much effort it took for her to force them out.
You avoided her eyes, nervously tapping the table with your nails. "Don't do that." You shook your head, "not here, not now."
Wednesday could see your distress and knowing that she was apparently the cause for it brought her considerable discomfort. "Do what?"
An indignant scoff escaped you. You ran your tongue over your bottom lip before looking at her; "you have to stop giving me hope for something that's not there, Wednesday." Your gaze roamed over her face, and the sudden tenderness of Wednesday's eyes was so unfair. "Even torture has a limit," you mumbled.
With an annoyed huff, Wednesday cursed under her breath.
What would it take for you to see that, even if she didn't want it in the beginning, there always has been something there.
It didn't help that Andrew had watchful eyes boring into her. Wednesday wanted this moment to be yours and hers only, yet there's a crowd of people around and a parasite attached to you. Oh, she was hating every second of this.
"Please, I want to-" Wednesday hesitated for a beat, "I do want to try this." She extended a hand for you, praying to a god she didn't believe in that this would be enough for you to see.
Maybe you were a fool, but the soft lights were reflecting against Wednesday's dark eyes, and there was no denying the faltering in your heartbeat; trying to mimic her own, trying to tell you what you already knew. You glanced back at Andrew, silently asking if this was okay, to which he responded with a kind nod, and you took the hand Wednesday had extended to you.
No matter how many times you touched her, your skin would always fill with goosebumps when colliding with hers. Her hold on your hand wasn't light, almost as if you could escape her grasp anytime; it was dangerous how well her hand fit with yours though, almost as if they belonged. Touche.
Wednesday took you to the middle of the dancefloor and turned to you without letting go, placing her free hand on your waist; tugging you closer.
Your own hand hovered before settling on her shoulder. This felt too intimate, like crossing an invisible line with no way back.
When Wednesday started to sway your bodies from side to side, following no particular rhythm, you finally asked; "what is this, Wednesday?"
Wednesday's eyes didn't leave your face, the hand she had on your waist squeezed the fabric of your dress there. Your perfume is clouding her senses, something that reminds her of lavender. You feel warm under her touch, alluring; if she leans closer, and you don't pull away, your noses might brush.
For a fleeting moment, she caught herself wanting to.
Wednesday doesn't get nervous, but the twisting of her stomach was something very close to it. "This is me trying to tell you that… though it is true that I never wanted to have a soulmate, it was before I knew it was you." The words got Wednesday closing her eyes for a moment, she hated saying them; she's awful at this and part of her thinks she's doing a terrible job anyway, but words are what hurt you in the first place so they're the ones that also need to fix this.
"I couldn't hate you even if I wanted to, and it's not because the universe said so, it's because-" Wednesday tried to continue. She felt you squeezing her hand and at the same time that it helped it almost left her speechless. "You make me feel… a way I never did before. And though it's not always pleasant, I don't want it to stop. I want to make it up to you, if you'd let me."
Her eyes lazily glance at your lips, and she dares to intertwine your fingers; "and maybe we could start with this dance."
You could cry. You could kiss her. Part of you wanted to do both. But Wednesday's breathing fanning over your lips was worryingly unstable, her eyes couldn't find a place to focus on you, and her hand had a death grip on yours. This scared her. Being this vulnerable, it terrified her. It was a delicate line you were threading on, but you knew you'd never let go of her.
You settled for tentatively pushing those loose wisps of hair behind her ear, letting your fingertips touch her cheek while doing so; the gentle act spoke volumes for itself. "Okay."
———
Sunday's sun was setting to a peaceful night, everyone was still tired because of last night's partying. Nevermore has never been this quiet.
You had your eyes on the sky, appreciating how the usual blue took on shades of orange, pink, and purple; clouds highlighted by the strong colors. It was nice to have the gardens all for yourself; and as you walked towards the greenhouse, you couldn't help but think about last night.
Did she mean it? Did Wednesday really have feelings for you?
You'd be stupid to say she's lying, considering the toll her own words took on her yesterday.
Only the mere thought of it got your heartbeat skyrocketing and your hands sweating. You wished you could dive in head first into… whatever it was she wanted with you, but what if she's not there to catch you when you fall?
Another blow and your heart just might not make it.
The glass doors of the greenhouse opened with a creak and you breathed in the familiar scent of flowers and freshly watered dirt. It was so quiet you could hear the fluttering of the wings of the wandering butterflies if you focused enough. Some lingering rays of sun still managed to seep through the glass walls, molding shadows from the leaves around you.
Parties were cool, but nothing could compare to this.
Walking inside, you first spotted the familiar little orchid you've been taking care of; "hey, you're looking lovely today, miss," you smiled, allowing your fingers to run over its petals and give it just a tad more color.
It was routine for you to give a once over each plant whenever you were in here alone. As you did so, you slowly made your way to the teacher's desk to find what you came to get.
Passing by a cactus, you had to double-check; the poor thing had been neglected of water. "Oh this won't do at all," you grumbled, placing your hands around it, careful to not touch the spikes. The yellowish tone went away, being replaced by a vivid green that got you smiling; "that's much better, you deserve love too."
Finally reaching the desk, you opened the drawer that contained flower seeds yet to be planted. You sorted through the name tags until you found the one you came for. "Gotcha," you whispered, biting your lip as you stashed the seeds in your pocket.
"Y/N!"
The sudden call of your name almost got your soul leaving your body with the way you jumped. You placed a hand over your racing heart, looking up at the culprit.
"Holy shit, Eugene, you almost gave me a heart attack," you exclaimed.
The boy chuckled, raising his hands in surrender, "sorry, wasn't my intention, I'm just glad I found you."
You pushed close the drawer and walked around the wooden desk, stuffing your hands in your hoodie's pockets. Cold, and no gloves again. Very smart.
"What's up?"
"So, I actually came here looking for those lavender flowers you got me last time," Eugene adjusted his glasses, a sly grin coming to his face, "but since you're here, maybe you could grow some for me?"
You smirked, turning around to grab the seeds for him, "so the bees liked them?"
"They loved it, you have no idea how much," he told you excitedly, gesturing around, "even the new ones I rescued are looking chipper already."
Picking up an empty pot and filling it with fresh soil, you placed the seeds on top, easily making them grow and bloom into beautiful purple flowers. "I'm glad they did," you then handed it to him and made to walk outside.
"Thanks, you're awesome," he told you, truly meaning it, he stopped outside as you closed the greenhouse doors.
You shook your head and waved off his compliment, "it's nothing, really, I'm here whenever you need."
Eugene turned to go to his bee shed and you to the quad, but before you went too far, he called out again.
"Oh and, Wednesday was asking about you."
It got you stopping in your tracks, your cheeks instantly warming up, "she was?"
"Yeah," the boy nodded, his eyebrows furrowed as he remembered it, "I think she wanted to see you," he shrugged and waved you goodbye; "thanks again."
"Yeah, no problem," you mumbled, though he couldn't hear you anymore. The thought of Wednesday actively looking for you got your skin filled with goosebumps, maybe you'd find a way to go see her without being painfully obvious.
Reaching the quad, you kneeled down in front of the flowerbed you'd been renovating for the past few weeks. Various flowers were already in place, their colors mingling with each other nicely, one complementing the other; all around a big maple tree you managed to grow in the middle. It took a lot of energy from you and you could still remember the metallic taste of blood on your lips, but it was worth it; the tree was divine.
Burying your fingers on the rich soil, you found the perfect place for the last flowers to go in. And with a press of your fingers, they bloomed. Dark petals standing out amidst the sea of colors.
You could see them becoming your favorite.

to the next stage of our adventure! digimon survive week 2024 day 7: post-game / future personal thoughts under the cut - less about the artwork and more about shuuji and lopmon themselves. a long rambling containing major spoilers and heavy topics. will cause whiplash. proceed with caution.
other than the fact this may be boring and long-winded, cw and tw: there will be mentions of self-harm and suicide. if these topics make you uncomfortable, please step back. if you're sure, then alright. i'm aware this is a weird place to ramble about shuuji and lopmon considering the notorious highlight of their story would match the themes of day 5 (villains) and day 6 (dark & loss) better. unfortunately (ironically?) i never planned to feature them for those days, so... pretty sure i'm not the only one feeling this, but when i discovered that a good part of the fandom seems to loathe shuuji with utmost passion, even after they claimed to have completed the game, i was confused. the way his death happened and (understanding) the cause made me uncomfortable for a while, but never drove me to the point of hate... once i recovered from the initial shock, what i felt towards him was more pity, then respect (on truthful route). i feel shuuji should have been one of the most appreciated characters in survive. yet it was the opposite that happened. (between you and me though, knowing there was this discourse with the fact digimon survive is a visual novel, i'm not that surprised it turned out this way...) from my point of view, lopmon evolving into wendimon then killing shuuji symbolizes suicide, the act of taking one's own life. it was the climax of shuuji's mental breakdown, leading him to basically self-destruct, causing damage to everyone around him and ultimately himself. lopmon evolved, just like he hoped. but failed to do it like other kemonogami partners (maintaining control of themselves and fending off enemies). the next and final outcome was death, through his own partner actually eating him alive too. it reminds me how when someone thought they have prepared well for something important yet it failed spectacularly, the devastation and frustration would eat them in the same way from inside. and they probably would for one second think, "i'm better off dead". the more i pondered about it, the more it hit home, so of course, the last thing i could do is hate him, when his struggles sound similar to my own - having to rely on consistent achievements to prove your value, to feel you are worth living and not a waste of resources. the part where shuuji went all abusive on lopmon felt like the equivalent of pushing yourself to the extreme to reach your goal, to the point of neglecting your own needs. it's like a student so absorbed in their study, sacrificing food and sleep, until their body eventually snaps and shuts down for good (...this in fact happened to one of the students at my previous workplace. she was in her last year of high school. life was just about to truly start for her when her classmate informed us of her sudden death). even in truthful route where shuuji and lopmon survive that point, things aren't immediately nice and easy for him. you can see that he still has self-doubts, and what i think is impostor's syndrome. he could be making a great contribution to the team and still put himself down for having done "nothing". i have found it interesting that artists and writers tend to be especially fond of shuuji. so perhaps it's not just the matter of one's upbringing - whether you were raised in a harsh, competitive environment and/or with family with (unreasonably) high standards so you can relate more easily to him - but also whether one can see just what every struggle shuuji and lopmon went through symbolizes shuuji's mental state. out of all survive characters, i think shuuji and lopmon pulled off this thing called "surviving" the hardest, no joke. which is why i almost always gravitate to drawing them happy because that's what they deserve :') after all this, what i also would like to say is, it's okay if a character makes you uncomfortable. it's okay if you hate a character. but never, ever bring down the character to people who like them or even consider them their favorite or comfort character. if you must, do it in your own space and only with like-minded people.

Tell Me Sweet Little Lies Part 10
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | AO3
-----
They're a restless group, checking weapons, going over the plan, bunching together in tiny groups of twos and threes that shift and change as they all seek something - distraction, comfort, anything to keep their minds off what's coming, he supposes.
After a while, Eddie finds himself alone, standing at the little kitchen of the camper and staring into a cabinet like he could stomach anything even if it wasn't all but bare. Erica and Dustin are sitting with their heads leaning into each other, discussing something that must be pretty important with how focused they are, though Eddie can't make it out. Robin's sprawled out on the couch, Nancy's reading through her notes again, one long line of tension. Steve sits with Lucas and Max, all loose limbs and forced ease, like he's done this a dozen times before.
He probably has, Eddie realizes, wondering just how many times this little group has sat together like this, waiting for their turn in the action.
Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Steve stand to rock up on his toes, miming tossing a basketball into a hoop.
"And the crowd went wild," Steve says, grinning widely and voice just loud enough to carry to where Eddie's standing. "I should know, I was in the crowd."
Lucas scoffs, says something that Eddie can't make out, though there's something like a tiny smile tugging at his lips.
"Robin'll back me up!" Steve says, purposefully louder this time. "Right, Robs?"
"I know better than to blindly agree to anything just like that, not after last time," Robin calls back without even opening her eyes.
"What happened last time?" Eddie asks, too curious not to.
She opens her eyes now, sitting up so she can look piteously at Eddie. "He tricked me into going running at dawn."
"Ouch," Eddie says sympathetically, resolving right then to never let that happen to him. "Thanks for the heads up."
Steve looks between the two of them, nose scrunched up like he's not sure he likes them ganging up on him, which makes Eddie flash a wide, gleeful grin at him.
"You're backing me up that Lucas was awesome at the game," Steve says, waving his hand like he's waving off their previous conversation.
"Oh! Yeah, okay, that I'll back you up on. You were great, Sinclair."
"See?" Steve says, turning back to him triumphantly. "Would I tell you that you were epic if it wasn't true?"
Lucas ducks his head. "Yeah, well, you stood up to cheer for me whenever I even made a good pass, so your definition of what's epic might be a little suspect."
Steve makes another motion with his hands, though Eddie's not sure if it's supposed to mimic some sports move or is just a meaningless gesture. "Man, no one ever cheers at good passes, and they should! Getting the ball to someone is just as important as the one who-"
"You went to the game Friday night?" Dustin interrupts, sounding betrayed. "I thought you had a date?"
Eddie… didn't know that Dustin knew that much about what was going on in Steve's life, which. All right, maybe there was some truth to how much Dustin talked about the guy beyond their shared adventures in the Upside Down.
"I did!" Steve protests. "Brenda and I went to the game."
Eddie raises his eyebrows. "…you took your date to a high school basketball game?" He doesn't want to agree with Dustin, but - he kind of agrees with Dustin, here. If that's Steve's idea of romance…
Steve scowls at him. "No, I took my date to a championship game where one of my-" He cuts himself off, jaw snapping shut with an audible click.
Robin immediately pounces on his unfinished sentence, gleeful. "One of your kids! Aw, Steve, you took your date to see your kid's basketball game."
"Shut up!" Steve retorts. "I took my date to see one of my friends play, because it was important to him."
Lucas and even Max are grinning at him a little now - though given the gleam in their eyes, Eddie suspects they're getting ready for a whirlwind of teasing.
Eddie glances over at Dustin, expecting to see the same gearing up towards mockery, but instead the kid looks - almost hurt. Before he can say anything, Dustin's speaking up again.
"What, so some dumb basketball game is good enough to make a date out of, but coming to Hellfire isn't?" he demands.
Lucas's smile drops, and Steve frowns at Dustin.
"We really doing this now?" Steve asks.
Eddie looks back and forth between Dustin and Steve, bewildered. "Why the hell would Harrington ever come to Hellfire?"
Look, Eddie may be beyond sold on Steve Harrington being both a badass and a good guy, but he still can't see him anywhere near Hellfire or Dungeons and Dragons in general.
"Because I asked him to!" Dustin shouts. "Because it was important to me, and that's supposed to matter, because he's supposed to be my best friend!"
Silence echoes through the camper. Even Nancy and Erica, who had stayed out of the conversation, are just watching them now.
A muscle in Steve's jaw twitches, and then he nods. "Right, yeah, okay, I guess we're doing this now."
He stalks over to Dustin's side, grabbing the back of his shirt and hauling him towards the door of the RV. Dustin yelps and bats at his hand, but he doesn't actually stop Steve from tugging him outside.
The door slams shut behind them.
The awkward silence lingers. Nancy just looks confused, Lucas won't meet anyone's eyes, Erica and Max have twin expressions that are some mix between defiance and guilt, and Eddie -
"Jesus Christ, does the constant world saving make you all this dramatic about everything?" he asks.
Robin and Max snort, then level him with near identical bitch please looks.
"Do I have to bring up the table speeches again?" Robin asks, at the same time as Max says, "Said the guy who threw a hissy fit about someone missing a session of his dumb little club."
Eddie slaps a hand onto his chest, clutching his heart as if he's just been shot, and lets himself drop dramatically onto one of the chairs. "I am wounded, the likes of which I may never recover from! Will no one defend my honor?"
He casts a glance around the camper, wide eyed and beseeching, gaze never straying to the window. From this angle, he can just see the back of Steve's head, and he'd rather keep everyone's attention away from whatever emotional warfare is going on outside.
"Don't look at me, fool," Erica says. "You are a dramatic little bitch, those're the facts."
"This is stupid," Lucas says suddenly, standing up and pacing across the camper. "I told Steve it doesn't matter. Everyone was right, okay, there's way more important things than a basketball game, and I don't even know if I still want to be on the team after all of this. It's not like it mattered to any of you before, so why are we all talking about this now?"
The levity that Eddie'd been trying to bring back is sucked completely out of the RV, which - yeah, okay, fine, fair enough, this isn't a time for levity. It's just that Eddie doesn't really know what to do without that, and he casts a desperate little look over at Robin and Nancy.
Nancy and Robin exchange a look.
"Lucas," Robin says, softer than he's seen her so far. "Did it matter to you?"
"I-" Lucas stops, looking miserably over at Max before his eyes cut away. "I don't want to answer that."
He doesn't want to lie, he means, or else Max will know, and he doesn't want to admit that it mattered. The way Lucas looks right now is like a kick in the teeth.
Eddie did that. Eddie made one of the kids feel isolated because of something he enjoyed doing, Eddie made the kid's friends find a fucking replacement for him, Eddie made sure that not only did he not get to participate in the final session, but that he was made fully aware that they would all choose Hellfire over him and his shitty basketball game.
Fuck, that Eddie guy is an asshole.
"I should have moved Hellfire," Eddie gets out through gritted teeth.
Lucas's head snaps up. "What?" he asks in disbelief.
"Look, if we're all going to ride off to our very probable heroic deaths soon, then I'm going to do it with a clear conscience and not feeling like I'm the one who made you look like a kicked puppy, all right? Your terrible choice in extracurriculars and even worse choice in new friends notwithstanding, I should have moved Hellfire. It wasn't fair of me to make you choose, or to make your friends choose between you and the campaign, or to hassle you all about it."
The door slams open, making Eddie and several others jump, and Dustin stomps back up the stairs with Steve right on his heels. Dustin's shoulders are hunched and his face is screwed up like he's still upset, but there's no lingering tension between him and Steve. Steve ruffles Dustin's hair, then grips his shoulder briefly as he passes him, so Eddie assumes they've worked whatever it was out.
Dustin stops next to Lucas. "Hey Lucas, can I talk to you for a sec?"
Lucas looks at him warily. "What about?"
Dustin sighs. "About me being sorry?"
Lucas raises an eyebrow. "Sorry for what?"
"For making you feel like your friendship wasn't important and not being there to support you?" Dustin gets out, looking at Lucas pleadingly as he edges towards the door, clearly hoping not to have to keep going with everyone else here.
Lucas lets him squirm a little longer before nodding. "Yeah, okay, we can talk. I guess I'm sorry too."
The two of them tromp back down the steps, the door swinging open and closed again. Steve comes to stand by Robin and Eddie, raising one eyebrow at him when he sees how he's still just flopped over the chair.
Eddie waggles his eyebrows at him, grinning. "You tell him that you weren't mad, just disappointed?"
"Shut up," Steve mutters, which Eddie is going to assume means yes.
Nancy's smiling, looking at Steve all amused and a little fond, and even though Eddie was the one who encouraged Steve to go for it, that makes something twist in his stomach.
"Did you do the hands on your hips thing?" Nancy teases.
Steve rolls his eyes. "Little shit just needed a little reassurance, that's all. And a smack upside the head."
Max groans, bending over to rest her forehead on her knees. "I don't want my soulmate to come save me from stupid boys and their delicate feelings."
Eddie beams, resting his elbows on the table and cupping his chin in his hands. "Look, guys, we created a monster. A soulmate talking rebel."
Max chucks a candy bar wrapper at him without looking. He expects it to go wide, or flutter to the ground without making it very far, but it must have some candy remnants still stuck in it because it smacks him right on the forehead.
Which, well, means there's only one thing to do.
"Free snack!" he crows, opening it up to scrape melted chocolate and caramel off with his teeth.
"Dude!" Steve says at the same time as Robin yells, "Gross!"
"Oh my God, Eddie, if you're hungry we have food," Nancy says.
Max sits up enough to fix her gaze on Erica, gesturing at Eddie. "This?" she asks, judgment dripping from her tone. "This is the guy your brother and his stupid friends have decided is their new dork lord?"
"He's your soulmate," Erica scoffs. "He's your responsibility now."
Eddie grins at them both, hoping there's chocolate in his teeth, just so he can watch them make grossed out faces.
When he looks up at Robin, Steve, and Nancy, all three of them are clearly trying not to laugh, and oh, that's even better.
"Now!" Eddie says, pitching his voice a little in a muted version of his dungeon master boom. "Where is this food I was promised? Cause I gotta tell you, Wheeler, cabinets are looking a little bare unless we want to eat tomatoes or beans out of a can."
He's not certain what he's expecting - maybe for them all to look around at each other before he or Max sigh and start doing what every kid who's been left to their own devices before they're old enough to be able to grocery shop knows how to do. It sure as shit isn't for all of them to look at Steve.
Steve shrugs. "Yeah, sure, I'll see what they've got."
Eddie stares at him as he slides past to peek in the cabinets, pulling out canned vegetables and cream of chicken soup and probably expired spices, a worn looking pot and a can opener and a few half eaten bags of chips.
He leans over into Robin's space so he can whisper, "Can Steve actually cook, or are we all about to have food poisoning?"
She flicks him on the forehead. "Steve's a great cook," she says, and she sounds just a little bit irritated, which -
Not what he was going for, at all, and he leans back, hands up palms out to show he's backing off. Nothing that could be interpreted as talking behind Steve's back, got it.
"Just wary about the expiration date on all those cans," he deflects.
She raises one eyebrow at him, clearly not buying it - he did just lick chocolate out of a candy bar wrapper, after all - but she lets him have it.
Max comes up behind Steve, grabbing the can opener and getting to work opening up the cans he's set out. Robin leans back into Eddie's space, his transgression apparently forgiven, and rests her head on her hand, just watching them. It makes him feel like they've done this before, and there's a moment where he's not sure if he should feel out of place.
Nancy comes to sit at the table, looking a bit tentative. Erica's worming her way in there before anyone can say anything, immediately providing commentary on what Steve's doing like it's a cooking show, and something in Eddie settles in a way he's not sure he's ever felt outside of the trailer with Uncle Wayne.
Dustin and Lucas come stomping back in when Steve's got a mess of diced tomatoes and beans and corn and cream of chicken and spices in the pot cooking over a hot plate, all bluster like they think if they make enough noise no one will call attention to why they were outside in the first place.
No one does, but Eddie's pretty sure that's more to do with the fact that no one wants to talk about it than anything else.
"What're we having?" Dustin asks, while Lucas leans in to look only to get shoved away by Max.
"Taco soup," Steve replies. "There's chips to go on top when it's done."
There's not enough tortilla chips for everyone, but it doesn't really matter. Robin shoves handfuls of potato chips on her soup without complaint, and Nancy digs into hers without bothering with any chips at all. Eddie joins Dustin and Lucas in fighting over the bag of corn chips, only to have Max calmly snatch it while they're occupied and share it with Erica.
Both Lucas and Dustin turn huge, sad eyes on Steve - who'd clearly grabbed tortilla chips for his own bowl before anyone else - but he just gives them an unsympathetic smirk and shovels a big spoonful of soup and corn chips into his mouth.
The soup's good, tortilla chips or not, and Eddie actually kind of likes the salty crunch and extra flavor from the barbecue potato chips he'd put in his. Part of him wonders how - or why - Steve Harrington knows not only how to cook, but how to cook with whatever ingredients are left in someone's pantry. It's the first hot food he's had in days, though, and the mood is probably the lightest it's been in a while, so he doesn't ask.
He just eats his taco soup, hunched around a cramped table in a little camper with a group of people who risked their lives for him, who are all about to risk their lives more, and tries not to feel guilty for having a moment of contentment.
When Max suddenly jolts up, they all know it must be time.
I'm not ready, appears on Max's arm. It isn't time to move forward with the plan.
Eddie feels like a fucking live wire of nerves, stripped raw and bleeding. Part of him wants to nervously ask more questions about this girl with superpowers, what her plan is, how they're sure they're all on the same page, but the others have a focused air of grim determination about them and he's a little afraid to bring down the morale.
It doesn't really matter, he guesses, since he'd been on board with this plan before they looped in Max's magical soulmate.
Before he knows it, Steve is telling him and Dustin not to be cute, if anything goes wrong, and fuck the way that stupid boy is looking at them. He understands it with Dustin - as much as he hadn't gotten it before, it's obvious that Steve and Dustin think the world of each other, and Eddie's pretty sure that Steve would do just about anything to protect the kid. But Steve is looking at him, too, like he gives a shit if Eddie makes it out of this - like he gives more than a shit.
Eddie wants so bad it nearly overtakes his brain completely. If this is going to be the last time that they see each other, he wants Steve to know - to at least consider -
He chickens out just like he had the last time they were in the Upside Down together, scrambles to come up with something other than I'm pretty sure you're my soulmate - and tells Steve to make him pay instead of saying anything really important.
He's running on pure adrenaline after that, playing like his life depends on it - his life does depend on it, fuck, all of their lives do, and he pours more of himself into his guitar than he ever has before, all that bottled up terror and rage and grief, until he feels like he's all burned up with it.
It's not done.
Of course it's not done, of course the little shits found a way to get past their reinforced walls, and as he looks up at Dustin shouting at him, he knows there's no other option.
Eddie's not going to run this time. They all brought him in, made him a part of this party, relied on him, and he's not going to let them down.
When it comes down to it, anyway, he's the most expendable. He's been nothing more than an NPC for most of this, and yeah, he's been helping the party - flirted with one of its members, maybe thought he could be something more - but in a campaign, his death makes the most sense. A valiant NPC that the player characters will mourn, but they'll all survive onto the next campaign.
It was always going to be him.
There's been so many moments where he thought he was going to die during this last week that it seems fitting for it to finally happen, for it to be the demobats that get him. He makes it longer than he thought it would, but he can't fight them off forever, can't keep them from pinning him down and tearing into him like he's a fucking banquet on display.
And he thinks, one last time, that this is it. This is going to be how he dies.
But he doesn't.

Upon request, today we have the fourth part of our rec list of bottom Louis fics where Louis and Harry are friends who become lovers. If you'd like to check out the previous rec lists, you can find part one here, part two here, and part three here. If you enjoy our rec lists, please be sure to like and reblog this post to help spread the word.
Happy reading!
1) Truth Or Drink | Explicit | 5,548 words
Harry isn’t nervous. Of course he isn’t. He has done much more intimidating things than this. He has had sex with at least 100 men, and a few women along the way, while being filmed and watched by another 20 pairs of eyes. But for some reason the thought of doing this sounds a hundred times worse. He can feel his insides churning and sweat is starting to form on his palms. Sure, sex is Harry’s job and it has been for as long as he can remember. He doesn’t mind having a crowd of people watching him anymore, and everything is always quite professional. At the beginning things might have been a bit challenging but now it’s almost second nature. This, though, is more distressing than anything he has ever done before.
2) Incalescent | Explicit | 5,649 words
The onset of heat is something Louis still hasn’t learned to recognize.
3) You Step Where Words Are Written, Delicate Under Your Feet | Mature | 6,495 words
Prompt 513: A fic where Louis gives Harry a footjob over his pants while they're watching TV and Harry finds out he has a thing for Louis' feet.
4) Kiss It Better | Mature | 8,080 words
Harry shakes his head with a light laugh and leans down to kiss him again which Louis happily accepts even if he is a little confused by the reaction. "Baby, not a night has gone by that I haven't thought about you in my bed, naked, and begging for my cock." Blinking up at him with wide eyes, Louis opens his mouth to say something but nothing comes out. While they did flirt a lot over the last few weeks, Harry had never said anything like that. It shocks him as much as it turns him on. "News to me." "I won't lie and say I like random hookups or casual sex, but to me this isn't what that is." Louis swallows thickly, unsure of what to say to that but once again Harry gives him an out. "So, If you want we can stay up here and I can show you all the things I've thought about doing to you." Another kiss, quick and sweet. "Or, we can go back downstairs and we'll dance all night."
5) To Love Without Reason | Explicit | 8,854 words
“Come on in, soldier,” Louis pats Harry’s chest and walks away, leaving Harry to follow behind. Harry stands in the living room, looking around at Louis’ dwelling. Family pictures placed high on a shelf, certificates of Louis’ practice, and other trinkets that make Harry entirely too nostalgic. “I have to warn you,” Louis says as he puts the kettle on, the water droplets from his hair trickling down the golden skin of his back. “The door jams if you lock it so you'll have to leave it ajar.” Harry acknowledges with a soft hum, too entranced by Louis’ glistening skin to form a coherent reply.
6) I Would Wait Forever (And Ever) | Not Rated | 10,018 words
Louis is brave but has the worst timing in the world, Harry doesn't want to lose his best friend and they just don't communicate enough.
7) If I Saw You Every Day Forever | Mature | 10,685 words
There really should be a statute on the number of dates one can go to because how much longer does Louis have to suffer through this? A modern AU in which Louis might have accidentally signed up for something he probably shouldn't.
8) Wait Until You're Sure | Explicit | 13,042 words
Prompt 465: Louis and Harry are best friends who made a pact. If neither of them has found love by the time they’re 30, then they’ll get married. It was all laughter and fun until Harry realizes they’re celebrating his 30th birthday and in a few months, Louis is gonna be 30 too. So, he struggles to find someone for Louis to avoid being together, but Louis just keeps rejecting all men Harry introduces to him (because he has feeling for him, of course), which really upsets Harry. They argue about that and Louis says something like “wow, it’s that bad to be with me?,” accepting that Harry simply doesn’t feel the same. Louis moves for a couple of months with another friend and Harry has all this time to understand his feelings, realizing that he loves Louis too and wants to be with him. But when he goes to tell him, Louis is already seeing someone else. So what’s Harry gonna do to get Louis back?
9) Candle Wax & Polaroids On The Hardwood Floor | Explicit | 13,082 words
Prompt 463: Clumsy modern witch Louis AU where he accidentally gives his roommate Harry a love potion and he has a crisis because he thinks he will get in trouble with the law for technically poisoning someone and Harry’s heart eyes aren’t helping.
10) Blackberries And Cherries | Explicit | 13,894 words
Louis is a witch and Harry is his human friend. When Harry needs help focusing on his schoolwork, the obvious solution is to ask Louis for a potion. You could say things don’t go quite right.
11) Bend The Rules | Explicit | 16,823 words
Prompt 588: Lous hires a ‘ghost cooking’ service because his family is worried he’s not eating well and he wants to impress them by showing them what an amazing cook he’s become. The service includes sending a discreet cook to your house and have them get everything ready so that you only serve and take the credit. Problem is, his sisters (can be OCs if that’s more comfortable) get to his flat earlier than planned and the actual cook has to hide in the master bathroom for hours. Louis is mortified. The cook is amused and helps him to clean and well. Gives him a thorough service. Feel free to pick your fave as the cook.
12) Swap Me For Your Shadow | Explicit | 16,829 words
If Louis thought being in love with his best friend was a knife that continually twisted into his heart before, it was nothing compared to when Harry started to go around talking about having fallen for someone else. A 5+1 fic; 5 times Louis has to listen to Harry’s vague confessions of love for his ‘omega friend’ and the 1 time Louis snaps and confesses his love for Harry.
13) Sometimes A Fantasy | Explicit | 18,654 words
There’s nothing to complain about when Harry’s walking around their flat with his cock swinging about, nothing to complain about when Harry’s pressing himself up against Louis’ naked backside when he’s reaching for a mug in their cupboards, and nothing to complain about when Harry’s got his hand firm on Louis’ arse when they’re cuddling on the couch. So, in reality, it’s really fucking weird, and Louis knows that. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t like it.
14) Lonely Shadow Dancers | Explicit |20,838 words
“Mm,” Harry’s arms circle him, and their fumbling somehow turns into a cuddle session, “still can’t believe we’re here together.” Growing up with someone, one tends to become used to another. Used to the mannerisms and personality of them. Used to the changes and the things that stay the same. Harry hit puberty and sprung up into this cheeky curly flirt of an alpha and Louis still hasn’t found the time to get used to it. His stomach flutters and he bites back a stupid smile and wonders if he ever will.
15) The Mess We Created | Explicit | 21,099 words
An innocent one night stand changed into something more than that.
16) Not Safe For Work | Explicit | 23,295 words
I want to drown myself in Harry’s scent until I smell like him. “I think I'm open to trying that too. Sounds very good.” Louis shakes his head a little to get out of the Harry’s-scent-spiral. “Huh?” “The dish your finger's pointing at. I thought that might be what you’re choosing?” “Oh. Yeah.”
17) Sweet Like Honey | Explicit | 33,117 words
Weeks of flat shopping with their limited budget with Louis as a librarian aid and Harry as a barista and arguments about whether a balcony or extended bathroom suite were more important (Harry wanted to be able to feel the crisp night’s air and watch the sun set and Louis just wanted to take long bubble baths) led to them stumbling across the perfect fit. A small flat only ten minutes from campus with a cramped but lovely balcony and an included bath.  It’s affordable too… well, sort of. But they always manage. Louis picks up more shifts as an aid, adapting a habit of bringing his Psych textbooks and homework with him to finish in between duties, and later his script so he can quietly practice lines with little distraction. Harry also increases his number of shifts at the cafe and valiantly endures the nasty customers who for some reason flock to their establishment like moths to a flame.  For a while, it’s enough.
18) Once Burnt, Twice Shy | Explicit | 52,644 words
Louis and Harry are polar opposites in every way. Where Louis is a bestselling author from the city, Harry is a small-town firefighter who's never left his home. Where Louis is spontaneous and spirited, Harry is introverted and calm, never straying from routine. When an ill-fated accident and an exceptionally intelligent tabby bring them together, they are forced to confront their pasts and forge a better beginning for themselves. Will sparks fly, or will it all go up in flames?
19) Gallery Of Us | Explicit | 55,778 words
Harry knew what he was doing in life, everything laid out in black-and-white, each day pleasantly predictable. Cue lively art student, Louis, trying to find his place. An almost insufferably happy person who sometimes forgets to hide the way they feel meets the person who is diligent enough to notice and determined to make a difference.
20) If You’re Out There (I’ll Find You Somehow) | Explicit | 55,916 words
Harry looks so intensely into Louis’ eyes it’s as though he’s reaching in and touching his very soul. “I never thought… I never… I’ve been searching for so long, Louis, but I never gave up. I couldn’t stop, wouldn’t stop trying,” Harry says, bottom lip trembling as he strokes the backs of Louis’ knuckles. “I just knew that if you were out there, I’d find you somehow.”
21) It’s Golden, Like Daylight | Explicit | 61,496 words
"I actually think you might be onto something.” Harry’s eyes widened. “You mean…” Louis nodded. “As crazy and insane as this, this might just solve both of our problems.” “Are you saying you’re in?” Harry asked. “I’m in.”
22) Derail The Mind Of Me | Explicit | 77,323 words
Beside the photograph of a gaunt, pale face spattered with blood and lips torn into a Glasgow smile was a bloodied object, crumpled and stained almost to the point of unrecognition. Another photo showed the object shoved into the woman’s mouth. While Harry leaned forward to get a closer look, Louis scrunched up his nose and purposefully kept his gaze locked on his computer screen, refusing to so much as glance at the gruesome images the rest of the team examined. “What is that?” Zayn frowned. “Is that a tarot card?”
23) Ghost Note Symphony | Explicit | 96,426 words
Louis is on tour when he first hears about it. It’s all over the news – Harry Styles Attacked By Fan runs in headlines for days. It’s not even just the gossip rags, either. Actual journalists are covering the story. It would have been impossible to avoid hearing about it. Technically, Oli is the one who tells Louis about it, but it’s not exactly being covered up. Harry doesn’t answer Louis’ text asking if he’s alright, but that’s not really surprising. They haven’t spoken for months, and it’s been a lot longer than that since they’ve had a real conversation. The sting of the text going unanswered is still there, less painful than it might have been a few years ago. It’s not that it’s easy to forget about, exactly. Louis has a whole life outside of One Direction now, though. So Louis goes on with his life, figuring that if Harry was seriously hurt he would have heard about it by now. He might currently be in the same country as Harry, but being on opposite sides of it puts enough distance between them that putting it in the back of his mind is easy. There’s nothing Louis could do, even if he thought Harry might want him to. That’s why everything that happens next comes as a complete shock to him.
24) Our Endless Numbered Days | Explicit | 120,815 words
“Harry?” whispered Louis, his mouth dry, his nose pressing against the other’s warm skin. “Mh?” Harry’s humming was gentle, his fingers lightly caressing the younger boy’s arm, his chest steadily rising and falling beneath Louis’ cheek. A couple of seconds passed, and Louis looked up at him in the darkness of the cave, barely able to make out the expression on his face. When he tried to inhale deeply, his breath hitched. He struggled to find the words to tell Harry what he was thinking about. Another couple of seconds passed, and Louis listened to the reassuring beating of the prince’s heart beneath his cheek. He couldn’t. “Nothing,” he whispered, his voice weak. I think you’re half of my soul.
25) Love Will Tear Us Apart | Mature | 204,151 words
It was only meant to be a one night thing, but when the country goes into lockdown, Louis Tomlinson finds himself stuck in windsor castle, in company of his royal fucking highness, Harry, the prince of England.

Part 1 I once was poison ivy
Older!Firefighter!Steve x reader
Synopsis: After a lifetime of running from your feelings, it's hard to face the ones you have for Steve. Fortunately, he doesn't give you much choice, and they're stronger than anything you've ever felt, anyway.
Warnings: SMUT 18+, unprotected, a little bdsm if you squint (consensual bondage and choking but nothing extreme), angst, talk of manipulating men and talk of drunk driving, very long chapter but the end is worth it (;

My name is whatever you decide And I’m just gonna call you mine I’m insane but I’m your baby
The bath helped ease my aches more than I thought it would, but I still felt horrible when I got out. I groaned at the thought of how long it would take for the pain to go away. Knowing Steve was coming over, though, was a good distraction. He told me he’d be there around 7 so I took a long nap and woke up at 6, rushing to get ready.
Considering the only state he’d seen me in was freshly wrecked and a mess, I wanted to look good. Of course, I wouldn’t mind him seeing me freshly wrecked and a mess again. But for a much better reason.
I curled my hair lightly and shook it out until i had beachy waves, then put on light makeup. I didn’t want to do a full face, I was running low on time and energy, so I just filled in my brows, dabbed some blush on my cheeks, put mascara on, and finished off with glossy strawberry chapstick. My body was shaking with the need to rest by the time I was done, so I didn’t bother looking for a nice outfit. I just pulled on a tank top and a comfy pair of shorts and went with it.
Not long after I finished, I heard his knock at my door. I opened it to reveal him standing there, jeans and a v neck where his work clothes once were. His hair was neatly combed back, one perfect strand falling into his face. He was even more handsome than I realized, all cleaned up and fresh. He even smelled good, the same cinnamon from before stronger now and filling the space around us.
“Hey,” he smiled, one hand in his pocket and the other holding a bag, presumably full of food.
“Hey,” I grinned back and sidestepped, “Come in.”
“Thanks,” he took my invitation, stepping past me. I lead him to my kitchen, gesturing for him to set the food down on the bar.
“I brought mexican food, I hope that’s okay. Just some tacos and queso. I wasn’t sure what you’d want, and everyone likes tacos, right?”
“Yes,” I giggled, “Everyone likes tacos.”
“Oh, and I remember you saying something about losing a cheesecake in the wreck, so I got you another one.” He pulled a box from his bag. Not just a small to go box, either. A full sized cheesecake with the logo from a local bakery on it. I’d been there before, I knew their stuff was pricy.
“Steve,” I sighed, “You didn’t have to do that.”
“I wanted to,” he shrugged, opening my fridge and slipping the box in.
He was just so nice. He wasn’t like the other men I dated. He didn’t bring me cold gifts and nice dresses or custom jewelry. He brought me a full sized expensive cheesecake because I was sad about losing mine. I felt warm, like my stomach had melted and turned to a puddle. It was honestly scary. I looked at him and felt more than I ever had with any other man. I’d dated guys for months on end before and they didn’t spark the reaction Steve gave me. It was intimidating. What was even more intimidating was knowing I wasn’t good enough for him. He deserved someone who hadn’t done the things I’d done. He deserved someone pure.
“I’ll go get your jacket,” I cut into my own thoughts and rushed out of the room, fearful that the dam would break and tears would spill over. My emotions with him were high. Maybe it was the way he took care of me. Nobody had ever done that before in my life. Sure, I’d never wanted for anything, but being financially taken care of and having someone take care of you are two different things.
I returned with the garment in hand a moment later and he slung it over the back of his bar chair, taking a seat.I pulled two plates from my cabinet and grabbed the one across from him while he laid all the food out between us.
“I got chicken and beef. I didn’t know which you’d want. There’s two of each.”
“I’ll take a chicken and a beef, and you can take a chicken and a beef,” I offered, and he nodded, splitting it onto the two plates. He set the queso in the middle and spilled some chips onto each plate.
“I know this probably isn’t as extravagant as the date you were on last night, but I hope you like it,” Steve smiled at me, seeming shy all of a sudden.
I furrowed my brows, chewing through the bite I’d taken of my taco and swallowing as quickly as I could. “I don’t need extravagant, Steve, this is perfect for me. In fact I think this is the sweetest thing any man has ever done for me.”
“But it’s not fancy, and I’m sorry. I’d like to do better one day, if you’ll let me.”
I sighed, giving him the most pitiful look I could manage, “I’ll let you, Steve. I’d love to go on another date with you. But I don’t want or need anything fancy. I’m more of a lowkey girl.”
“That’s not the idea I got from the dress you were wearing last night,” he pointed out. And he was right. It was custom made, tailored just for me, and it cost that man about $4000.
“I…” I started, unsure of how to proceed, “I didn’t buy that dress. The man I was out with bought it for me.”
“Oh,” confusion filled his face. He thought it over for a moment before concluding, “So you have a sugar daddy?”
I couldn’t help the snort that came through my nose. It was funny, really, to hear it put into those words.
“Not quite,” I explained, “There’s not really any… sugar involved. Just… I didn’t have a lot of advantages growing up, but I had so much ambition. I made the best grades I could but college is expensive and they only got me so far. Now I’m waitressing, but it still doesn’t cover everything, I mean I have a mortgage and a car note, insurance, tuition. Sometimes I go on dates with men who like to help me.”
“Why do they help you without any.. you know… sugar?”
“Because I make them feel good about themselves. And they don’t know there’ll never be anything physical, so they hope for it.”
His silence spoke volumes. I should’ve kept my mouth shut, but I didn’t want to lie to him, and it was the second time he’d pressed me about it. I don’t know why people say the truth sets you free. The truth felt like a horrible ball of pitch black nothingness, sucking the energy out of the room.
“You can go if you want, I understand,” I whispered, too afraid to speak up.
“No,” he rushed out, “It’s not that, I just… I don’t know how to be right now. You understand that I can’t take you to those nice restaurants, or buy you elaborate gifts. I can’t do any of the things you’ve said.”
“I know,” I nodded frantically, “That’s not why I’m here with you right now. I… Steve, you’re different.”
“Different how?”
“Look, I know you probably don’t understand and you might be judging me but I haven’t always had a choice. When I was a teenager, older men were always trying. Trying so hard, it was creepy. I went so long without giving in, but one day I just didn’t have the money to get anything to eat and my parents wouldn’t help me. They said they’d already done too much for me, you know, raising me and all. I let one of the men take me to dinner, and then it happened again. And again, and again, until dinner turned into nice parties and fancy dresses and paid bills. I know I should be ashamed, and believe me, I am, but I can’t change any of it and it’s gotten me to where I am now.”
“Sweetheart,” Steve hummed, that soothing tone back in his voice, “You don’t have to be ashamed of what you’ve done to survive.”
Tears were flowing down my cheeks. He brushed them away with his thumbs, keeping my face in his rough hands.
“I’ve never wanted more, Steve. Never. I’ve never looked at a man and felt anything but indifference. But like I said, you’re different, and I just… I’m scared.”
“It’s always scary the first time you give up your power. I felt the same way the first time I ran into a burning building. But I haven’t regretted it, and I hope you don’t regret meeting me.”
“I don’t. I really don’t.”
“Then don’t worry about anything else.”
We finished eating and he helped me clean up. Or rather cleaned up everything for me.
“You didn’t have to wash all of my dishes,” I huffed.
“It hasn’t even been 24 hours since that truck hit you. You’re not lifting a finger, I’m here to take care of you.”
My eyes hit the floor at his words, not able to look into his anymore. He kept saying that, and it wasn’t just talk. He was making sure to do it, and to do it well.
“You keep saying that,” I breathed out, a small giggle following.
“Because I mean it.”
“I know.”
He stared at me for a moment, the look in his eyes heavy and intimidating, before putting the last dish away.
“Let me take you to dinner Friday night.”
My eyes widened at his sudden words, and I couldn’t fight the frantic nod that followed. “Please.”
“I know you’re probably sick of dressing up, so we can go somewhere more casual if you want.”
“I’ve never dressed up for you.”
His eyes darkened and he stepped closer to me, brushing my hair behind my ears.
“You wanna dress up for me, huh?”
“Yes,” I whispered, leaning into his touch, “Wanna look pretty for you, Steve.”
“You look pretty without trying. But I’d love for you to look pretty for me.”
“Steve,” I whined, “Please. I’ll wear whatever you want me to wear, just kiss me.”
He obliged with a groan, cradling my head in his hand carefully and letting the other one fall to the small of my back. I arched into him, pressing my mouth into his, wanting more and wanting to be closer.
It ended entirely too soon, and I stood dumbstruck, dazed and kiss-drunk.
“I’ve got work early,” he whispered, “I should probably go. But I’ll pick you up Friday at 7.”
I nodded, walking him to his truck. He pressed me up against the door and kissed me one more time before climbing in.
“See you Friday,” he winked.
“Can’t wait,” I smiled, breathless. My heart was racing, my mind full of him.
“I’m not leaving til you get inside safe,” he told me, and I nodded, springing into action.
Echoes of your name inside my mind Halo hiding my obsession I once was poison ivy but now I’m your daisy
Good morning pretty girl. Just got to work.
The message was sweet and simple, and it put a smile on my face as soon as I woke up.
I quickly responded,
morning stevie, be careful saving the world today
And from that moment on, we didn’t skip a beat. Never did more than a few minutes pass between messages.
I called the insurance company and they set up a rental car for me until they could finalize my claim and get me a new car. One of my coworkers, who happened to live close to me, offered to take me to pick up the rental, and I graciously accepted. When she picked me up, she had flowers and a “Get Well Soon” card signed by everyone at the restaurant. Along with a message from my boss, I had the next two weeks off to recuperate and more if I needed it. I was grateful to have such a nice work environment.
I didn’t tell Steve about the car. Instead, I decided I wanted to surprise him. I stopped at the store on my way home and got the ingredients for homemade baked macaroni and barbecue chicken. I whipped it up, a large helping of both because I imagined a bunch of firemen would be pretty hungry, and packed it all into passenger seat.
I put on light makeup again, and slipped on jean shorts and a low cut t shirt with a pair of matching sneakers. My hair was still wavy from the night before, so I didn’t bother with it.
I was relieved to see that both fire trucks were there when I pulled into the parking lot. My tummy was knotted up as I worked up the courage to step out of the car. The knots unraveled though, as I jumped, a knock on my window startling me.
I turned to see Eddie standing there, gesturing for me to roll it down.
As soon as I did, he commented, “Nice wheels, insurance kicked in?”
“Not quite,” I shrugged, “it’s a rental.”
“A nice one, too,” he observed the car, looking every corner over. “Came to surprise Steve, huh?”
“How do you know he didn’t know I was coming?”
“Because he’s been bugging me about you all day, saying he wishes he didn’t have to wait til Friday to see you.”
I blushed, “Yes, I’m here to surprise him. And I brought all of you some food.”
“You sure do know the way to a fireman’s heart. Here I thought Steve only liked you for your looks.”
“Will you help me carry the food inside?” I asked, rolling my eyes at him and fighting a laugh.
He ended up carrying all of it, and I followed behind him.
He lead me into a small dining room where two men sat, laying the macaroni and the chicken out on the table and searching for dishes and silverware.
“Billy, can you get the rest of the guys? Don’t tell them why, she’s here to surprise Steve and I want his live reaction,” Eddie instructed one of the two men, and he nodded, doing as asked.
Moments later, five more guys were filing in. Steve was the last of them, and he looked tired. I couldn’t help the twinge I felt in my heart. But then his eyes landed on me, and everything changed.
His eyes brightened and a smile overtook his face, “What’re you doing here?”
“Well I accidentally made all this food and didn’t know who else to give it to,” I shrugged jokingly, erupting a laugh from Eddie.
“Yeah right,” the long haired man smirked, “She came to smooch you up, Steve.”
“Eddie,” Steve warned, cheeks heating at the looks he was getting from the other firemen. He then turned back to me, “Wanna go somewhere and talk for a minute?”
I nodded, grabbing his outstretched hand and following him to the fire trucks. He sat on the back of one and I joined him.
“Extra food, huh?” he smirked. I nodded, “So you’re telling me you didn’t make all this on purpose so you could see me again?”
“Well,” I hummed, “Maybe I did. What about it?”
“It’s sweet,” he smiled, “Nobody has ever done something thoughtful like that for me.”
“Somebody should’ve a long time ago,” I mused, “You deserve thought. ‘ts why I think about you all the time.”
He blushed, letting out a chuckle, “Oh yeah? Guess it’s a good thing I found you.”
“You didn’t find me, I wrecked my car to get to you,” I laughed. Our banter felt special. It felt right.
“Sureeee, you probably begged that SUV to hit you. All so I’d have to take care of you.”
“Exactly,” we giggled for a minute and then settled into a comfortable silence.
Finally, he broke it with a sigh, placing his hand on my knee carefully, “I don’t want to wait until Friday to see you again. Let’s go to dinner tomorrow night instead.”
“Tomorrow night would be perfect!” I exclaimed, grinning wider than I ever had, heart beating so loudly I swore he could see it.
“Pick you up at 7,” he leaned in and kissed my cheek, “Now let’s get back to the guys before they have an excuse to make dirty jokes.”
And we did. His coworkers were all nice, and they all seemed to like me. I liked them too. They had plenty of sideways remarks and jokes about Steve and I. They told me he’d never brought a girl by or even told them about a girl before. He blushed so hard I just knew they were telling the truth. They also told me he hadn’t stopped talking about me.
By the time I left, I was on cloud 9, my heart fluttering in my chest. The only thing on my mind was Steve, Steve, Steve. I couldn’t think about anything else. He’d made an irreversible mark on my heart.
The next day, I raided my closet, desperately looking for something to wear. I tried nearly everything I owned on before settling on a cream satin mini dress. I had on the cutest pair of black underwear I owned and slipped a pair of fishnets on over them. I didn’t need a bra with that specific dress, the bosom was tight and pushed me up perfectly with no help. All that was left was shoes.
I wanted so badly to wear heels. But I was still sore and weak, and wasn’t sure how well I’d be able to walk in them. I shrugged it off, finding my favorite pair anyway, black closed toe louboutin stilettos.
I washed and curled my hair, and put on a full face of makeup, finishing it off with eyeliner and a red lip tint. I wanted him to be able to kiss me without worrying about getting it all over his face. I painted my nails black and finally I was done. I was pleased with what I saw in the mirror. I only hoped he felt the same way.
When he knocked on my door, it felt just like the first time. I took a deep breath, checking my teeth in the entryway mirror then letting him in.
The way he looked at me sent shivers down my spine. His eyes raked me over like a starving man with a meal, stopping on every curve, admiring every inch.
"I.." he stuttered out, seemingly lost for words, "I knew you were gonna look good, sweetheart, but I didn't know you'd look this good." He stared at me some more, then muttered a "Fuck," as if he couldn't help himself.
"You look good too, Stevie," I bit my lip, taking him in almost as hungrily as he did me. He was wearing a nice pair of jeans and a white button down with a sports coat over it. His nice boots matched.
He cleared his throat, easing some of the tension between us. "You ready?"
I nodded, grabbing my small purse from the table beside me and following him outside.
I let out a breath as I stumbled over my own two feet, almost falling flat but Steve caught me by the arm and set me upright.
“Sorry,” I huffed, “I wanted to wear these shoes so bad but I guess I’m still too sore to walk in them. I’ll go change.”
“Don’t,” He shook his head rampantly, his arm sliding around my waist and holding me up like he had before. “I’ll help you walk in them. You wore them for me, I don’t want you to have to change out of them.”
I smiled at him and let him lift me into the truck. He slid the heels off of my feet and set them gently on the floorboard beside me, promising he’d put them back on when we got to the restaurant and explaining that he just wants me to be comfy. I giggled, heart warmed by the gesture.
We chatted the entire car ride about nothing in particular. The conversation flowed so easily we could’ve gone on about the weather for an hour. Finally, we pulled into a small parking lot with a red brick building in the center. It looked unassuming, just a small sign above the door with its name. Other than that, nothing stuck out about it at all and it was pretty tiny compared to other restaurants.
“It does look like much but just wait,” he winked, coming around to my side and slipping my shoes back on as he said he would then pulling me out of the truck. I leaned on him the entire walk in and, to my surprise, he was right. The inside was not what I expected.
The place was small, but it was advantageously so. There were about ten tables altogether, all round black metal with ornate chairs pushed under them and red tablecloths. Everything was bathed in warm lighting and there was a small chandelier above each individual table, casting a glow on the fancy gold centerpieces. Water glasses were set out next to bread plates and silverware, and menus were neatly stacked at each seat. I’d been to enough restaurant to recognize a fancy one, and that’s what it was, but it was also quaint and homey. The kind of place you dress up to feel comfortable at.
“This place is perfect, Steve,” I commented, taking everything in as the hostess lead us to a two seater corner table. Next to it was a window with a view of an enclosed patio garden, warm fairy lights strung up highlighting an array of purple and red flowers. “Fantastic,” I whispered, to myself mostly but Steve smiled anyway.
“I made reservations for the best table here,” he chuckled bashfully, his hand rubbing the back of his neck.
“The best table here for me? Steve, this is too much, you didn’t have to go through all this trouble.”
“Just tell me you love it.”
“I do.”
“That’s all I wanted to hear. Now look at your menu, they’ve got a lot to choose from.”
I did as he asked, a shy smile crossing my face. I liked the more demanding side of him. Still gentlemanly but firm and unyielding. He wasn’t going to let me complain about being spoiled. He just wanted me to be happy.
“Hello,” the waiter smiled, his attention focused on me. “I’m Max, I’ll be taking care of you. What would you both like to drink?”
“I’ll just have diet coke, please,” I smiled softly as I ordered, and he kept his eyes on me for a moment before slowly turning to Steve.
“Same here.”
Max left us to look over our menus and Steve snorted.
“What?” I asked, eyebrows furrowing.
“The waiter has a little crush on you.”
I rolled my eyes, “You’re silly. No he doesn’t.”
“He just looked you up and down, and that wasn’t a friendly smile, it was an ‘I want to see you naked’ smile.”
“Well. Too bad for him, I’m not available,” I shrugged, sending him a wink.
“Not as long as I can help it,” he smiled back, turning back to his menu.
Max brought our drinks and took our order, and I started to think Steve was right. He was paying a lot of attention to me, and the looks he was giving me were more flirtatious than they should’ve been.
“Is there anything else I can get for you, ma’am?” he asked me, ignoring Steve completely.
“I’m okay,” I politely smiled, trying to ignore the way his eyes held me in place, my skin crawling due to his blatant ignorance of the man across from me. But when he simply smiled and walked away instead of asking Steve if he needed anything, just as he had asked me, I’d had enough. “Excuse me? Are you not gonna ask my date if you can get anything for him?”
“Oh,” Max’s eyes widened as he feigned shock, “I just thought since you were okay, he would be okay.”
“Well, this is a shocker so stay with me, but I’m actually not a mama bird spitting my food into his mouth. If he needs something he can tell you himself. So ask him.”
I turned to Steve and his expression sent me reeling. His eyes were dark, heavy on me, his lips parted just enough for me to catch a glimpse of his perfect teeth, the same ones I wanted to rake over me and mark me up.
“Sir,” Max cleared his throat, “Is there anything you need?”
“I’m good, thanks. I think I have what I need right here.”
The waiter looked thoroughly uncomfortable at this point, so he took his leave, and my eyes didn’t leave Steve’s for a second. The mood shifted, and I didn’t see how it could possibly go back to normal.
“You gonna do that every time a man flirts with you?” he asked me.
“Next time I’ll say you’re my husband. That should scare other men away,” I hummed, not really thinking through the words. I realized what I’d said right after it came out of my mouth, though, and briefly wondered if I’d screwed up. This was a second date, much too soon to joke about marriage. He would probably say something awkward, or take his leave. He would probably think I was some lunatic looking for a mail order man or something. Oh God, my brain ran wild.
“Good girl,” he cooed, smirk turning the corner of his lips upwards, and I gasped. I felt every inch of my body heating up and suddenly I just wanted to go.
“Steve,” I whined, desperately and needy. A plea of his name was all he needed to call the waiter over.
“We’ll be taking our food to go,” he informed, and goosebumps littered my skin.
Max nodded awkwardly and mumbled a “yes sir,” shuffling off to the kitchen to do as Steve asked.
The implication was pretty clear, but I was worried that I was wrong and he wanted the food to go because he wasn’t enjoying himself. It would be pretty embarrassing to assume he wants to take me home and him feel oppositely. “Did I do something wrong? Are you wanting to leave?”
“You didn’t, but I do. I think the food will taste better after.”
“After what?”
“Wait and see,” he winked.
The table was filled with tense, electric silence for a few minutes until finally the waiter brought a bag full of food and the check. Steve paid, leaving a 20 on the table as a tip.
“He was so rude to you, why are you tipping so much?” I asked.
“I always tip. Even if the service sucks.”
Fuck, that was hot.
He grabbed my hand and helped me out of my seat, walking me to the truck carefully and lifting me in like he did the first time. Only this time, he leaned in and captured my lips in a slow burning kiss.
“Steve…” I whispered as I pulled away, “Where are we going now?”
“Back to my place,” he stated, as if it were obvious.
“What are we gonna do there?”
“We could watch a movie,” he thought for a second, “Or I could take you in my bed.”
“Second option sounds good,” my eyes widened, giving him a once over. He chuckled, closing my door and getting on his own side.
“You’re really cute, you know that?”
I blushed, staring at my lap until my cheeks turned to their normal color.
It was a 20 minute drive to his house. We didn’t talk much, I think we were both too nervous to know what to say, but he played slow music at low volume and it only seemed to make the mood more ambient.
“Here we are,” he said as he pulled through a black iron gate into a secluded and dimly lit driveway. The house was two story but still very small, bathed in warm lighting from lamps above each window. It was red brick with black wood accents and a black roof. It was nice, the kind of house that comes straight out of a catalog. He had a little garden on the side, and I thought briefly about how it would be a perfect place for fairies and gnomes.
“You ready?” he raised a brow at me. The look on his face was heavy, but so was mine as I nodded slowly.
He opened my door for me as per usual, and helped me all the way to his front door. As he unlocked it, I took in even more details. He had one of those big welcome signs beside his door, the vertical ones. He had two rocking chairs with cushions on them and a small table, two coasters. It didn’t seem like a single man’s home, it definitely had a woman’s touch.
“Who decorated, Steve?” I asked as he got the door open.
“Oh, my friends, Nancy and Robin.”
“Were either of them your girlfriend?” I asked curiously as I followed him in.
“Nancy was in high school but that was 18 years ago,” he shrugged nonchalantly, “We haven’t even thought about each other that way since. Just friends. She’s married now with a couple kids.”
“Neat,” I forced out, not knowing how to respond. The thought of him with another girl made me want to throw up, but I plastered a smile on my face.
“Baby,” he smirked, “I promise. I haven’t had feelings like this for anyone in a really long time. It’s been a couple years at least, and even that wasn’t like this.”
“I haven’t either,” I commented as I pulled off my shoes and kicked them to the door. My toes wiggled comfortable in their new found freedom.
“Well then…” he looked deep in thought, his nerves on his face like a novel, intricate and beautiful and twisty, “I’ve run from things like this in the past. I know you have, too, and I know you’re probably scared. But I want to be with you, really, I do. I want to go on more dates and I want you to keep some of your things at my place and I want all of my sheets and clothes to smell like you all the time. I like you, a lot, really, I do. It feels like more than just… I don’t know how to explain it, all I know is I don’t want to run from it or push it down. I don’t want to risk losing it. So will you?”
I let him ramble, face stoic though I wanted to smile. I could tell he was overthinking by the tremor in his voice.
“Will I what?”
“Be with me?”
“I’m with you right now, Steve,” I giggled. He huffed and ran a hand through his hair.
“No, I mean, will you be with me. Be my girlfriend. Anything, I just want you to stay tonight and tomorrow and whenever else you want.”
“I’m with you right now, Steve,” I repeated, more emphasis on my words, “As far as I’m concerned I was yours the second you picked me up off the road. Your girlfriend. Whatever you want me to be.”
The grin that spread across his face was wide and contagious, and he wasted no more time, taking three big steps towards me, backing me into the wall behind me. His lips landed on mine in an excited rush, teeth and tongue clashing.
We kissed like that for a moment before he turned me around, lifting me onto the table on the opposite wall. He pulled me to the edge, my hips meeting his, meshing together like they were meant to be that way. I let out a shocked moan, tugging his hair, pulling him closer, and he groaned.
His mouth found its way to my neck, leaving wet kisses down the column of my throat and grazing his teeth in the crook.
“Please,” I hummed, pulling his face back up to mine. As we kissed, I pushed his jacket off his shoulders and started working on the buttons of his shirt. I whined, unable to undo a single one of them, too preoccupied with his mouth and he chuckled, patronizing me.
“It’s okay, baby,” he breathed out, “I’ll take care of it. I’ll take care of you.”
I moaned as the words passed through his lips, loving the way they embraced me. He didn’t miss a beat, smirking at me and sliding his hand up my thigh to where I needed him most, pressing down just rough enough to send a jolt through my whole body.
“That’s what you want, huh? To be taken care of?”
I nodded rapidly, leaning in to kiss him again, desperate and rutting against his hand.
“Easy, pretty girl, I’ve got you. I promise.”
He finished the buttons on his shirt and let it fall to the ground with his jacket, and I almost fainted at the sight. He was perfect, all tan skin and chest hair, taut and warm and ready to be touched. He pulled me off the table and before I could even react, he spun me around, bending me over it.
“This dress is so nice, don’t wanna rip it,” he cooed, his hand starting at the back of my neck and making its way down to the zipper of my dress. he tugged until it fell completely open, sliding it down each arm and onto the ground, leaving chills in his wake. “Fuck, baby, you’re so perfect,” he groaned, his hand finding the area between my shoulder blades and pushing me right back down.
His hips met mine, grinding against me in a slow and torturous way.
“Please, Steve, need you,” I gasped, rutting my ass against his bulge, needy and desperate.
“I know, baby. Turn around for me.”
I did as he asked, facing him, looking up to meet his eyes. He ran his hand up from my hip to my throat, pressing lightly on both sides, and my breath caught.
“You like that?” He asked, pulling me closer to him with the hand that was cased around my neck.
“Yes,” I whispered, pulling him closer, wanting more.
“Such a good girl for me,” he praised, “Come on baby, let’s get you to bed.”
He lead me down the hall to a staircase, and I began following him up, but by the fifth stair my legs were ready to give out.
“Steve,” I whimpered, leaning on the wall for support, struggling to hold myself up.
“Fuck, I forgot you’re hurt. Here,” he rushed to my side, winding his arms under my ass and lifting me into his arms. I squealed, wrapping my legs around him.
“Please don’t fall!”
He rolled his eyes as he carried me the rest of the way up the stairs. When he got to the door at the end of the hallway, he pressed me against it, his lips finding mine again. I was rutting my hips against his, unable to create the friction I wanted. He quickly noticed, opening his door carefully so he wouldn’t drop me and walking me to his bed.
I expected him to drop me or even throw me on it, but he laid me down gently, not releasing his hold on me until I was flat on the mattress. He crawled tentatively on top of me, towering over me, yanking his belt off one handed and in one fluid motion. The other hand was on me, feeling anything he could reach, eager and needy.
“Fuck,” I moaned, more turned on than I thought I’d ever been. I began pushing off my fishnets, but he stopped me, holding my wrists above my head with one hand and ripping the tights with the other. “Steve!!”
“I’ll get you a new pair,” he shrugged, then ripping the lace of my panties, “of both.”
I sighed, leaning back as his fingers found the place I needed him most. They rubbed slow circles that turned into quick motions, then they slid right where I wanted them and I cried out. I was so wet I could hear it, and his eyes widened.
“All this for me?” he asked, and I nodded tentatively, “My good girl.”
“Your good girl,” I agreed, and a dark look settled on his face as he began sliding his fingers in and out faster. “Please Steve, want you now.”
“Anything for you,” he smirked, climbing off the bed and stepping out of his pants and boxers. My jaw went slack at the size of his bulge. It felt big but I had no idea it was that big.
He climbed back on top of me, grabbing me by the hips and pulling my core flush to his. The contact had me reeling, my head falling heavily back into the mattress under me.
He hooked one of my knees into his elbow and lifted my leg, teasing my entrance slowly. I shuddered, a plea heavy on my lips, but he shushed me before it could come out.
“I promised I’d take care of you, and I’m going to,” he said, his voice low and gravely, sending shivers down my spine and straight to my center.
He pushed in slowly, letting out a groan as my walls clenched around him instinctively.
“Fuck, you’re tight. So perfect for me,” he whispered as he pushed further, then pulled back.
It only took three slow thrusts for him to set a steady pace, and I was a mess. A puddle on the bed under him, useless and ruined already. I rotated my hips up to meet his with every motion, helping his rhythm along, my walls fluttering around him steadily.
“Please, Steve, harder,” I groaned and he obeyed, pushing even farther, hitting exactly the right spot that made me see stars.
It wasn’t long before I felt a knot in my stomach, an urge I had repressed for too long, and I moaned, breathy and desperate. “‘m gonna cum,” I hummed.
“Not yet, you’re not,” he stated. His hands found mine, pinning them above my head onto the mattress, his lips meeting mine in a frenzied kiss. His hips didn’t stop for a moment, the rhythm speeding up but not breaking. “Keep these here,” he demanded, letting go of my hands and using one of his to balance. The other started rubbing slow circles on my clit.
“Fuck Steve can’t hold it please” I managed to say in my messy state, and he nodded, his lips finding my neck, latching on and sucking. I knew there’d be a mark there and it put me even closer to the edge, wanting to be his. Wanting him to claim me.
“Cum with me, baby,” he whispered, and that’s all it took for the band to snap. My walls clenched right around him, my eyes shutting as my head fell once again. I felt him release inside me, warm and wet, but he made no move to pull out or roll over. He just laid on top of me and stared at me for a moment.
“What?” I giggled, in a giddy haze. I was sure nothing could bother me then. The moment was perfect.
“You’re perfect. I know I said it, but I really meant it.”
“I was just thinking the same thing!”
He smiled and pulled out, laying beside me.
“That was good.” His comment threw me off guard, and I full belly laughed.
“Yeah,” I said in my fit of giggles, “I hope so. I was planning on doing it again.”
“How about in the morning, on the kitchen counter after I make you breakfast?”
“I couldn’t imagine a better time,” my smile was huge and contagious, filling the room with buzzing energy.
“Well then let’s get some sleep so it’ll come faster,” he grinned back, climbing out of bed to grab a wet towel, a T shirt from his drawer, and a pair of boxers. He slipped his own boxers back on on the way back into bed.
He went to work cleaning me up with the towel and my heart swelled, watching him.
“You didn’t have to do that,” I pointed out, and he chuckled.
“What part of ‘I’m gonna take care of you’ don’t you get, Y/N?”
“Oh, sorry, you’re right,” I rolled my eyes, “Carry on. Throw in a nice facial and massage while you’re at it.”He sent me a glare and I laughed, “Kidding.”
“Put these on,” he instructed, handing me the shirt and underwear, and I did as he asked. “I’m gonna go put our food in the fridge real quick so we can eat it tomorrow.”
He left and was back moments later, and we settled in. He pulled me tight to his chest and I’d never felt so safe as I drifted off.
-
The next morning, I woke up to an empty bed and the smell of fresh pancakes. I climbed up, padding my way into the kitchen to see a shirtless Steve slaving away at the stove. I pranced behind him and gave his ass a little tap, laughing when he jumped and the pan splashed, ruining the pancake he was working on.
“Can’t you see I’m cooking here? And all you’re worried about is groping me. I’m not a piece of meat you know,” he joked.
“Sorry, sorry, you’re right. I’ll behave myself,” I shrugged, playing along, turning my back to walk to the other side of his counter but as I did I felt a slap on my own ass.
“Hey!” I squealed, jumping out of his reach. Soon, we were in an ass slapping war, pancakes forgotten, giggles filling the room.
In one swift motion, he caught me in his arms, keeping me in place, not budging an inch.
“I’ve got you right where I want you,” he smirked, pressing his forehead to mine, our noses brushing.
And I wanted to be where he wanted me. I wanted the moment to last forever. Maybe it would.
All of the time I spent surviving, and Steve was the first man to show me how to live.

Tumblr media
apologizing to Anakin was one thing. it was easy especially after you’d both opened your hearts to one another, apologizing to Padme however was going to be a completely different thing. everything was going smooth thus far since Anakin’s confession that morning, but you were nervous. you knew Padme and you knew she’d forgive you but you had this overwhelming guilt. it was eating you alive as you waited for her to arrive for the day. you twist the ring on your finger becoming lost in your thoughts as you await her arrival. not even entirely sure of what you were going to say or how to start your apology.
as soon as she enters the tea room you’re on your feet. she freezes for a moment processing the fact that your actually acknowledging her existence before carefully continuing in, closing the doors behind her. there’s an awkward silence as you both stare at each other waiting for someone to make the first move. you almost wished you could just pretend as if everything was normal and although you knew if you did do that she’d go along with it, you also knew she deserved better.
she was your best friend and the distance you wedged between the two of you albeit one sided- needed to be addressed. you clear your throat and gesture to the chair beside you wordlessly asking her to take a seat, she takes the offer. silently walking over to you and sitting down, you pull another seat directly in front of her to join her. still you both remain silent for a moment as you struggle to find the words, reaching forward to take her hands into yours as she had done to you days ago when trying to offer you comfort.
“Padme…” you force yourself to keep eye contact as you start to speak, wanting to show your sincerity. “i am so sorry, what i did was wrong. i should not have ignored you the way i did, it was childish-” she cuts you off before you can finish your sentence “y/n, i am not mad at you” she looks at you with nothing but pure sympathy. “i know you aren’t mad but it doesn’t excuse my behavior” she shakes her head at you “you where hurting and reacted accordingly, yes it wasn’t the best way to go about it but i understood- i understand” she squeezes your hands reassuringly.
“please let me apologize, i know you understand but you must realize you did not have to do what you did- what you’ve done. you stick beside me even as i pushed you away, you didn’t give up on me even though i would of more than understood if you had.” she gives you a gentle smile, letting out a soft chuckle “y/n you forget our friendship is not one sided, nor is it fragile. i will always be here for you the same way i know you will be for me.” you feel your eyes begin to water and just as quickly you are pulled into her arms. “thank you for the apology i appreciate it” she adds not wanting to brush off what you where trying to do. you both indulge in the hug for a moment, staying in each others embrace before pulling away and smiling.
you both can’t help but laugh. it felt nice, therapeutic almost. “i think we may have more important matters to discuss now” she says with a smile, leaning back in her chair. “like what?” you snort, shifting in your own seat to get more comfortable. “well for starters who’s responsible for finally pulling you out of your own head, who should i be thanking for giving me my friend back?” she’s smiling as she asks, giving you a look that you could only assume meant she already knew.
to be fair it’s not like there where many options for people who’d speak out to you. “You and I both know you’ve already got an idea as to who it was” she laughs, turning her head to the side and gestures silently over to a few of the castle servants. they work quickly, moving the small table to where you both where sat. setting up a small tea party for you both, one of the servants pouring you both a cup of tea adding in milk and sugar to your likings. “of course i do but that doesn’t mean i don’t want to hear you say it” you can’t help but roll your eyes, bringing your cup of tea to your lips before taking a sip. she gives you a smug smile before mirroring your actions.
“what else did you want to discuss?” you ask curiously, she hums for a short moment as she thinks to herself. “we have to address the situation publicly…” you feel your heart sink, looking down into your tea cup to stare at the liquid in order to avoid eye contact. “you don’t have to do a announcement if that’s what your worried about- there are other ways we can go about this matter y/n” you take a deep breath, looking back up at her and placing your tea down. “i don’t have to do an announcement but if feels like i should, a murder and attempted one is not something that can just be so easily looked over”
“well there are ways you could do so indirectly” she quips perking your interest in an instant. “how so?” she places her own tea down now, sitting a bit straighter before she begins. “let’s start with the council members. forget an announcement, skip straight to punishing them and let the news come out in articles as it usually would. then simply replace them, business as usual. you’re the queen, the people already know what’s happened there so there’s no real need to address them in particular.” you nod carefully taking in her advice, tapping on the table beside you with one of your fingers as you think. “that leaves us with one thing”
“addressing your fathers murder and the attempted murder on Anakin” you nod letting out a sigh, leaning your head into your palm. “i don’t feel as if you have to address it head on. write a statement about what happened to your father and have it printed and released in the papers” you purse your lips in thought “but what about the attempt on Anakin’s life?” Padme goes silently, briefly contemplating what you could do to address it while also avoiding the spotlight. “maybe not a statement with words but a gesture, something to show you and him aren’t going anywhere nor are you scared. even though you are but they don’t need to know that.”
a gesture? what could you do to act as a gesture big enough to garner everyone’s attention whilst simultaneously showing there’s nothing to fear.
Tumblr media
Anakin sat directly beside you, Listening carefully as you and Padme explained what you’d been discussing. you’d called him in for more than just coming up with an idea- actually you’d already figured out what you wanted to do the problem was you didn’t know how to execute it without his help.
“so you need help coming up with a gesture then?” he asks curiously running a hand through his hair as he thinks. “Yes-” “No-” you and Padme both speak at the same time, her turning to you in confusion when she hears you say no. you keep your attention on Anakin however as you speak “do you remember when we discussed the things you liked about your kingdom?” he blinks a few times processing your words as he thinks back through your conversations, the gears turning in his head. you watch as he visibly lights up once he realizes what you’re hinting at “The Races?”
“Yes!” you exclaim happily now turning to Padme to see if she was beginning to see where you were going with this. she seems more curious than anything, which to be fair you didn’t have horse races in Alderaan so it made sense it hadn’t clicked for her yet. “It’s a big event that brings together a lot of people. pretty much anyone can participate as long as they have a horse to ride” Anakin begins to explain the details behind the Tatooine tradition, happily reciting the rules and regulations.
“it’s the perfect thing that could unite the people and us, a public event for the Ton to participate in and if Anakin raced as well then it’d also serve as a way for us to show we aren’t afraid. let them know we’re with them. we could add a Ball as well, so that we can socialize and maybe give a brief statement?” you suggest the idea to the both of them, Anakin grows more excited at the mention of him being able to participate. Padme seems completely onboard as well, perking up at all the new info.
“i think this to be a wonderful idea, and in all honesty you could probably use the excitement of the whole event to sweep this under the rug. at the end of the day its up to you of course” you nod at her comment. there was a lot to think of and a lot to take care of if you wanted this to happen and for it to be successful. you couldn’t help the excitement that bubbled over all of the fear and doubts. Anakin seemed to be even more excited than you, tapping his foot against the ground ready to jump up at any moment.
“well for this to work we’d better get started now, i believe we have a letter to write.” you say with a smile as you turn to Anakin.

Chapter Seven
“Stay. Please.”
“I just got you back,” he smiled, stroking your thighs tenderly. “I’m not goin’ anywhere, sweetheart.”
Cupping his jaw in your hands, you leaned in and kissed him deeply, your lips parting for him. His hands slid further up your thighs, gliding over your skirt to rest on your hips.
You moaned quietly as Bradley began kissing down your neck, his mustache tickling your skin. Dropping your head to his shoulder, you rocked against him hesitantly. “Oh, god… that feels good…”
His lips curled up into a grin as he continued his ministrations. “You’re so beautiful, baby,” he rasped against your throat before finally pulling back to look into your eyes. He stilled your hips with a gentle squeeze when you rolled them again, causing him to groan. He was already hard and wanting, but he needed to be sure that both of you were on the same page before going further.
“Brad…” you whimpered, pupils wide and chest heaving.
“Slow down a minute, Dimples,” he whispered, kissing your lips softly. He waited a beat while your breathing slowed back to normal, reaching up to tuck a loose strand of hair behind your ear. “That’s my girl. You okay?”
You nodded, returning his tender kiss. “I’m good… are you?” Bradley smiled and stroked your cheek. “I’m fantastic. Just checking in, you said you wanted to take things slow, and I want to respect that.”
Resting your hands on his chest, you locked eyes with him and bit your lip. “Really?” You asked, your voice quiet. “I thought you'd want--”
“I think you can tell that I want you,” he cut you off, gesturing at the erection that was obvious even through his flight suit. “But if you want slow, we'll go slow. I want us to last.”
You lowered your eyes as you spoke. “It's just… it's been a while since, you know, I've been with anyone.” Your lack of a sex life was something you hadn’t given much thought to while focusing on your career, but saying it out loud made you feel embarrassed.
He lifted your chin gently with a finger. “Hey, that's okay,” he reassured you, sensing that you were getting self conscious. “I'm not in any rush, we can take our time and learn each other again.”
The reverence in his voice threatened to bring tears to your eyes. Your previous relationship had left a lot to be desired, which was one of the reasons you had avoided them since. But with Bradley, things felt different.
“I'd like that,” you smiled, relaxing against him. “Would I be a tease if I asked you to stay the night?”
He chuckled, kissing you again. “Not at all.” His hands on your hips helped slide you off his lap and back to the couch. “I'll need to use your shower though. I stink like jet fuel.”
“It's not so bad,” you grinned, smoothing your dress over your thighs as he stood. “But I don't know what you’ll wear after, I doubt my clothes will fit you.”
Bradley nodded toward the door. “I've got a bag in the truck for emergencies,” he explained. “Make yourself comfy, I'll be quick, promise.”
You watched him through the window as he jogged out to the Bronco parked in your driveway, returning with the bag he mentioned. He dropped a kiss to your lips when he passed the couch, flashing a smile as he closed the bathroom door behind him.
Once you heard the water running, you stood and moved into your bedroom, changing out of your dress and into a pair of sleep shorts with a tank top. After you were dressed you started your nighttime routine while you waited for Bradley to finish in the bathroom.
“Your shower is way better than the ones we have on base,” he announced, appearing in the doorway wearing nothing but his dog tags and a fresh pair of boxer briefs, drying his hair with a towel.
You were almost done moisturizing when you looked up and your mouth instantly went dry. He had been fit when you were together in high school, being a baseball player, but the man standing in front of you now was on a completely different level.
You managed to find your voice, though it came out as a breathless whisper. “You’ve definitely been staying in shape.”
Bradley chuckled, a bit of a cocky glint in his eye that you remembered from when you were younger. “Yeah, the Navy will do that to you.” He looked you over as he approached the bed, tossing the towel he had been using into your hamper. “You’re no slouch yourself, y’know.” His fingers gently traced your collarbone and up your neck, stopping at your jaw. “You’ve always been stunning.”
A warm blush spread across your cheeks and you bit your lip, feeling a sudden surge of shyness. The bed dipped with his weight as he sat beside you, leaning in to whisper in your ear. “You’re even more stunning when you blush.”
The laugh that escaped was loud, and you fell back against the mattress. “You’re too much,” you teased, pulling him down by his dog tags when he leaned over you. His lips met yours gently before he propped himself up on his elbow by your side, one hand on your belly while your fingers remained tangled in his chain.
A comfortable silence fell over the two of you, and when you yawned, Bradley nuzzled your ear. “Time for bed?”
“Yeah,” you nodded, smiling softly at him. “It’s been a long day.”
He kissed you once more before standing, helping you to your feet before you both settled under the blankets on your bed. He couldn’t help but smile when you curled against his side, resting your head on his chest, the simple motion feeling familiar despite your years apart.
“I’m really glad you’re here, B.” you whispered, nuzzling his warm skin as his arm wrapped around your shoulders.
He responded with a sweet kiss to the top of your head. “I’m glad too, Dimples."
-------------------------
The gentle morning sun roused you from your slumber, your senses slowly awakening one by one. First was touch, feeling a solid, warm weight against your back, and a heavy arm draped over your waist. Your body tensed, confusion washing over you as your groggy mind tried to process what was happening.
“S’okay, baby,” Bradley murmured, his voice husky from sleep as he pressed a tender kiss to the nape of your neck. “‘M here.”
His words instantly relaxed you as memories of the night before flooded back, the familiarity of his voice and scent registering as ‘safe’. Turning in his arms, you gazed into his hazel eyes with a mixture of gratitude and affection. The light that streamed through the curtains cast a soft, golden glow on his tousled hair and warm, sleepy eyes. “It’s been a long time since we’ve woken up in each other’s arms.”
Bradley brushed his nose against yours, his mustache tickling your lip. “I know, I missed it. This feels right, though, starting the day with you.”
Nestling into his embrace, you kissed the hollow of his throat with a little moan of agreement, your fingers tracing over his dog tags. “I didn’t mean to wake you though, I forgot what a light sleeper you are.”
He grinned, his thumb tracing circles on your hip beneath the sheets. “It’s a pretty handy skill, I think. I’ll be able to keep you safe.” He paused briefly before speaking again. “You’re okay with me being here though? Seemed like I startled you.”
“I’m just… used to waking up alone,” you explained, looking down. “Took my brain a minute to remember who was here.”
There were follow-up questions he wanted to ask, but he stopped himself, not wanting to make you share something if you weren’t ready to. Instead he slipped his large hand under your shirt and ran it over your spine slowly. “You don’t have to worry about that anymore, Dimples. I’ll be here every night if you want me to be.”
You leaned into his touch, pressing a kiss to his jaw. “Well, you’re here now, and we have the whole day ahead of us. What should we do?”
“Hmm…” he laid his head back against the pillows just as his stomach grumbled. “Breakfast?”
A smile crept onto your lips and your hand slid down to affectionately pat his tummy. “I make great pancakes.”
“I remember,” he said as you climbed out of the bed, his hazel eyes appreciatively roaming over your figure.
You stopped at the door, looking back over your shoulder. “You coming?”
Bradley chuckled and joined you in getting out of bed, pulling on a pair of sweats from his bag before following you to the kitchen. You were already pulling ingredients from the cabinets when he caught up, leaning against the counter, content to watch you work. It felt natural, like something you had been doing together for years, and it made him wish he could freeze time and stay in this moment forever.
“Anything I can do to help?” he asked, attempting to stay out of your way in the small space.
The sound of whisking pancake batter didn’t stop even as you looked over to him with a smile. “Coffee?” You nodded to the pot beside him. “Grounds are in the drawer behind you.”
He turned to retrieve the coffee grounds and started brewing the pot of coffee you requested. When that was done, he glanced around your living room while you focused on the food, taking in the simple decor. The house itself was an older craftsman cottage, but the interiors gave it a modern feel that was still cozy.
The picture frames on your fireplace mantle caught his eye, and he couldn’t resist crossing the room to get a closer look. There he found your parent’s wedding photo alongside one of himself, you, Carole and Maverick in front of a decorated tree, taken the Christmas before Carole passed away. He picked it up and stared at it, his chest tightening at the memory. It was the last Christmas he could remember enjoying, choosing to forego celebrating at all after he left at 18. Both you and his mother loved Christmas, and it was too painful to celebrate without the two of you.
“Pancakes are ready,” you called, setting the plate down on the table beside two cups of coffee. You looked over to him, the smile fading from your face when you saw what held his attention. Crossing the room, you wrapped your arms around his middle and pressed your cheek to his broad shoulder from behind. “If you want me to put it away, I can,” you offered gently, aware of the pain he carried from the loss of his mother.
“No… no,” he shook his head, setting the photo back on the mantle and shifting to face you. “I’m glad you have it out, it’s a good picture.” He swallowed hard and flashed a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Let’s eat, I’m starved.”
You allowed him to change the subject without argument, releasing him from your hold and sitting beside him at the table. Pancakes and coffee were consumed in silence, the heaviness of the past casting a shadow over your otherwise bright morning. When you were done eating, you sat back in your chair and looked him over, your psychiatrist brain turning on inadvertently.
“You know… I miss her too, Brad.” You tried, not taking your eyes off of him as he piled more pancakes onto his plate.
“These pancakes are perfect. Just how I remember them,” he declared, an obvious attempt to change the subject again. When you continued watching him silently, he set his fork down and sighed, carding his fingers through his hair with a sigh. “Please don’t psychoanalyze me.”
Leaning forward, you rested your elbows on the table. “We don’t have to talk, if you don’t want to. I just don’t want you to feel like you have to keep it all bottled up inside. Not with me.”
Bradley remained silent, opting to stand and take the empty plates to the kitchen for washing. You remained at the table for a moment with your eyes closed, hating the way he was shutting down. You understood how hard it was to talk about, you hadn’t been able to talk about your own parents’ death without breaking down until graduate school.
As Bradley washed the dishes, you took a deep breath and decided to give him some space, not wanting to push too hard. You cleared the rest of the table and then went to take a quick shower and dress for the day. Wearing a pair of jean shorts and a UCSD tank top, you headed back out to the living room and found Bradley sitting on the couch, flipping through channels on your TV.
“Hey, you,” he greeted, his arm lifting to draw you closer when you sat down beside him. Planting a gentle kiss on your temple, he inhaled deeply, savoring the scent of your hair. “I really like your shampoo.”
You smiled and relaxed against him, resting your hand on his stomach. A movie played on the TV and the two of you watched in a peaceful silence, enjoying your lazy Saturday together. When the movie finished, Bradley turned off the TV and gently squeezed you  with the arm he had wrapped around you.
“Sorry about earlier,” he began, his voice soft. “I didn’t expect to react that way.”
Shaking your head, you sat up to look him in the eye. “You don’t need to apologize. I was there for you before, I’ll be there for you again. I’ll always be there for you.”
Gratitude filled Bradley’s eyes as he smiled at you. You had known each other since you were only eight years old, yet you continued to amaze him with your compassion and empathy. You were always able to see behind people’s masks, and he supposed it was one of the things that made you good at your job.
You felt a blush creeping onto your cheeks as he held your gaze, and you finally lowered your eyes, biting your lip. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“I can’t help but stare at you,” he confessed, raising a hand to cup your cheek, his thumb gently caressing it. “You’re just so…”
“So…?” You prompted, leaning into his palm.
“Breathtaking. Thoughtful. You’re… perfect.”
You shyly met his eyes again, your blush deepening. “You really know how to make a girl feel special.”
He chuckled and drew you closer for a soft kiss. “I mean every word,” he murmured against your lips.
A quiet moan escaped as you deepened the kiss, your neatly manicured nails dragging gently up his chest until your hand was resting over his heart. When you finally parted, you were both out of breath, foreheads pressed together.
“Do you have plans for the weekend?” You asked, closing your eyes as your heartbeat slowed.
Bradley shook his head. “No, not unless you count staying here with you as ‘plans’.”
You snuggled back into his arms, a content smile on your lips. “I had the same idea.”
“It’s perfect, just like you.” He turned the TV back on and settled against the couch with you in his arms, ready to embrace the weekend ahead.

So there is a "leaked" script that claims Eddie asked Marisol to move in, and is it just me, or is that completely out of character for Eddie? He dated Ana for longer, and they weren't living together. we are really supposed to believe that he would ask Marisol to move in after a few months of dating? Unless Eddie is unable to process anything after learning his Buck. Is dating a man that is not him, and instead of breaking up with her like he planned, he pulls a Buck and asks her to move in with him.
Eddie does not deserve to be stuck with someone like Marisol.
According to 7x04, he apparently needs a live-in babysitter so he can go out with his shiny new boyfriend. So… 🤣  And it took a whole relationship and a blackout before Ana was his babysitter! Just from that much I’m still going, yikes. Like, girl, do you not have friends? Do you not have someone who will tell you this relationship is red flags all over the place? Can we not call up your Folger brother and have him talk some sense into you?
You’re very right though. Eddie deserves so much better.
I have heard about the supposed leaked scripts and I’ll talk some about that under a cut below in case anyone wants to read my thoughts on it.
But what I’ll say in general is that in some of the interviews we’ve been seeing recently especially with canon bi!Buck, Mr. Showrunner had scathing things to say about love interests who are just there to be love interests. He didn’t like that they couldn’t interact with any of the other characters and that they weren’t part of the overall story.
Given we’ve had what, two? offhand comments and maybe five whole seconds of screen time this season with her, if they wanted to actually develop that relationship for the audience, they could have done that. And should have done that a long, long time ago. (For example, see Eddie and Tommy’s relationship. In one whole episode they did more to build that up than they have done for Eddie/allegedgirlfriendconfirmedterf in all of season 6 or 7.)
Instead, they showcased the bond between Buck and the Diazes and the trauma that Eddie and Chris still have over Shannon leaving and them losing her. And also Eddie’s new friendship with Tommy that sounded like they were both spending every day, every moment together.
So far for Miss Homophobe, we have—
hey mari it me eddie from the hardware store
the phone call where they set up a date
it's not MY date it's CHRIS' date (r u sure, dude? why is she there then 🤣)
her chaperoning Chris’ date with Eddie
her babysitting twice off screen
Obviously, she’s in the next episode and they have a pizza date while Eddie has to stare at his bestest friends while they’re on a date. But at this point, if you want the audience to root for the relationship or enjoy it at the very least, it’s a little late in the game for that? We have nothing to go on and it doesn’t make sense if we’re taking it at face value.
All this to say, if he does ask her to move in with him, there is no way for the audience to buy that it’s genuine, reasonable, or a smart move. It reads like Buck asking Taylor to move in with him because he cheated and he’s desperate and clinging. Even if Eddie and the terf show up and are all happy and handsy and lovey, it’s not convincing. There’s been no development. It would come across like Buck and Ali apartment hunting and being touchy and giggly, and then her dumping him at the end of the episode. It sets up a contrast between what we think is happening and what is really happening. Perceived happiness vs the reality of not knowing each other and their relationship crumbling.
I don’t remember who said it or when it was said, maybe it was Kristen? But I know someone talked about how Eddie rushed things with Ana and they were wanting to do the opposite when continuing his story. Dating someone for (how long has it even been? 2-3 months? Idek? Does Eddie even know?) Mere months and asking them to move in reeks of, “something is going wrong and I have to fix it by doing something rash and ill-advised to keep us together.”
Remind me to do a post about Eddie also being someone who clings and stays because it’s convenient and he doesn’t want to be alone.
It would be completely out of character if it is a sincere, legit thing. However, as a panic response? I buy it. But that also doesn’t bode well for their future. Darn. Hold on, I’ll get the champagne. That relationship is just waiting to be bones. And in an episode called, “You Don’t Know Me,” is where they’re putting their relationship under a microscope? Hildy, cue up the ominous music.
I doubt the glorious day we are free of her will be this week. I think they are just starting whatever they have planned. Unfortunately. I would hope they kept her around and brought her back for a reason like what they did with Eddie/Ana. I want there to be something satisfying about the end and the fact that we have to suffer through this. It just needs to happen quickly because I am so over homophobic terfs who know what fucking show they’re on and what the story is and still persist in their assholish bigotry.
Now? My thoughts on the leaks?
IF we are to believe they are legit, and who knows if they are. But if we are saying they are legit, then Buck comes out to Eddie at the very end and Eddie is surprised. So, Eddie likely wouldn’t be jealous or weird about Buck and Tommy dating if he didn’t even know they are dating. Plus, they just had a whole episode dedicated to jealous!Buck and it would be redundant to immediately take that into, now EDDIE is the JEALOUS ONE. I think they’d have to take the story further for Eddie to really consider how he feels about Buck and Tommy dating.
Maybe it will come down to him being displeased by it (for some unknown reason he just can't put his finger on) and grappling with how he genuinely likes Tommy a lot and that’s a new thing for him and one of Buck’s love interests? But it wouldn’t happen this week. In theory, this week is about Buck feeling like he’s hiding because he just realized he’s bi and hasn’t told anyone yet. Hence, more of the “you don’t know me.”
Obviously, I am rooting for Buddie. All the way. All the time. I like Buck/Tommy just fine but they’re not BuckandEddie. But I think it will take a while before we see anything that might really develop the Buck & Eddie storyline. They’re working on Buck’s bisexual awakening and his first time dating a man. WHERE OH WHERE ARE MY EDDIE STORYLINES.  I just want them to do some justice for my boy. Give him something interesting! And for the terf to gtf away from him. :D
And apologies, I rambled a lot at you. Love and hugs!

A Little Murderess °❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・❀*
❀ female!murderer!reader x poly!ghostface ❀
Part 7 // 1.1k words
-> Part 6
Warnings: none!
A/N: sorry for the short chapter, tomorrow's is gonna end up being super long tho so hopefully that makes up for it!
°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・❀*ੈ✩‧₊˚⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
Summary: You've just moved to a new town after the death of your little brother and stepfather with your mother. You're not ashamed of what you do to cope with the deaths; especially when you make two new friends who you might have more in common with than you thought...
°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・❀*ੈ✩‧₊˚⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
The next morning was brutal. Your arms were sore from stabbing, your room smelled of blood. The high of killing was crashing down, and you really didn’t want to go to school.
But you had to. You wanted to see the faces of Tatum and Sidney as they worried what happened to Randy. You knew they wouldn’t discover the body in at least two days; Randy’s parents were going to get home Friday. And you wanted to see Stu and Billy. They very nearly spent the night at your place, but they weren’t quite keen on the idea of having to sneak out at five. You had two hours of sleep, and you knew you were going to need one hell of a boost of coffee to make it through the day.
You drove to school, a thermos of hot coffee added to your bookbag. You had nearly no makeup on, and you didn’t really care about who’d see you—your eyes were on two different people, and they were the only two people in which any opinion had an effect on you.
You took your beater to school, tired of fighting through the crowds to get to your normal car. Your beater was more suspicious in your opinion—nobody questioned a cherry red sports car, everyone questioned the polka-dotted paint job of your beater. Which was fine.
You were greeted by Stu, who was jumping up and down excitedly. He was wearing a Hawiian shirt, with a huge grin plastered to his face. Billy soon joined Stu, but he was dressed in a simple white tee-shirt and blue jeans.
“Sid’s out,” He drawled, his eyes glancing at you. “She’s at home, sick. We can still go after Tatum, but it won’t be as fun.”
“Is she home alone?” You asked, and Billy nodded. “Then why don’t we just kill both of them in one night? Alibi that you’re at my house.”
“Whose car would we use?”
“Steal one. Tatum’s ex-boyfriend’s, maybe?”
“What? Like, kill him, use his car?”
“Naw, I was thinkin’ of pulling one of the shit’s we’ve done to Casey and her boyfriend. Keepin’ him as a kind of reward if she answers a question right.”
“If she gets it wrong?”
“Off with his head!” Stu stuck his tongue out, his lips curled into a smile and he cackled, causing you to laugh and Billy to smile slightly.
“You’ve got to answer our trivia questions, it’s like Jeopardy but with actual incentives,” Billy explained, and you nodded, pretending to take notes. Stu ripped the pretend notebook out of your hands, and mimed stomping it on the ground.
“You don’t need to take notes, just do, don’t think,” He told you, and Billy nodded in agreement.
“So let’s see, we’ll kill off Tatum first, then Sid. Alibi is that you both are at my house, and we rented four different movies, just for safety. Who’s going to be the killer, who’s going to be the caller?” You wanted to get the general semblance of a plan formed, even though you were certain Billy already had one. He was more of a silent prepper, making sure that everything could happen just right, allowing Stu to do basically whatever his heart desired in the time Billy allotted for it.
“I was thinking we have you be the caller, and then Stu and I go after the kill. You’re shorter than us, so it’d be odd if the killer was two different heights. We don’t want to make it obvious that there’s three of us,” Billy concluded, and you agreed with him. You were good for kills that weren’t going to require planning, but they were better for the planned-out, multi-faceted kills that made the original kill of Sid’s mom a success, even though they weren’t directly to blame for it—they framed someone else. You weren’t sure if they were going to bother to frame anybody, or just leave it as a cold case.
“Are we blaming anyone for this?” You asked, and Billy and Stu’s eyes went dark with some information that you knew would make your stomach sick.
“That’s the beauty of it. We’ve kidnapped Sid’s father. He’s going to get the blame for all of this,” Billy grinned, his smile practically ear to ear. “He can be blamed for Sid’s death, and Tatum’s ex can be blamed for hers. Such a sad coincidence that they happened on the same night.” Clutching a fake string of pearls, Stu dramatically fell into Billy’s arms. Billy dropped him.
“You’re such a dick, you could’ve pretended to go along,” Stu grumbled, and Billy simply shrugged. You were excited for tonight—Randy’s death was a good introduction to the kill pattern, but tonight was going to be the big game. This was going to be one hell of a night for all of you, and it just depended on not getting caught. Which was easy when the three of you had parents that didn’t exactly care about your whereabouts.
•❃°•°❀°•°❃•
Your night started with getting your gear on, which was pretty simple. You found time to tailor the robes to actually fit you, which was wonderful since Stu and Billy couldn’t find any in your size.
The mask that Billy gave you fitted decently, but you decided to soak it in water and bleach beforehand, just to make sure it wasn’t coated in dried layers of teenage boy sweat. Your knives were in your bag, a familiar weight for you to carry. The finishing piece to the outfit was a bowie knife, one that matched the ones Billy and Stu used for their own killings.
Billy said he’d bring his voice changer, which you found relieving, since you couldn’t find the one that they used. Stu said he’d try to track down one of them, but he couldn’t remember where they got them. Billy just remembered that they weren’t the cheapest things ever. Stu said it was pocket change.
You were called at exactly nine-thirty, where the familiar and eerie tone of the voice changer greeted you, telling you to go outside past the bushes where you caught the two of them stalking you. You were to make sure to wear comfortable shoes. Even though you weren’t going to get out of the car, Billy and Stu wanted to make sure you were prepared. Just in case. Everything could go wrong, and Sid still had to end up dead. That was the singular goal of tonight. And although you didn’t know it, the end of tonight was going to be the most spectacular and unexpected turn of events that you wouldn’t have suspected in the wildest of dreams.

It was always so easy to sleep when you lay next to Kidd. His heartbeat was like a lullaby when you laid your head on his chest. Your fingers would sometimes trace the scars that adorned his body. All of them containing a different story. You liked to place small kisses on them just to see Kidd’s face turn brighter than his hair.
When you weren’t sleeping next to each other, you’d sit on his lap and watch him work on whatever new project he had in his shop. You even got to help him make his robotic arm! The happiness you felt inside when he praised you made your face burn hot. You loved making him happy.
He’d tell you stories about his travels on the sea’s before meeting you. Tell you all sorts of things that only you would ever know. The trust he put in you had your heart overflowing with love.
When you laid in bed together, you’d tell him about your day or about the new book you’ve read. He’d just sit there and listen, not saying a word, only humming when you ask if he was still awake. He might not be the most romantic guy in the New World, but he was perfect the way he was.
And that’s all that mattered to you.
~~~~
Leaning against the railing, you look out to the sea. The beautiful sunset had a calm washing over you. Even though the smell of salt hit your nose, it still didn’t change your mood. Why would it? This is the happiest you’ve ever been in your life! How can you be sad when you have the love of your life by your side?
You don’t know what you would’ve done if you hadn’t met Kidd. No one’s ever made you so happy! He truly was an angel in disguise. He saved you from a group of pirates who burned down your home! At least, that's what Kidd helped you remember. You couldn’t remember what the pirates looked like, but you remember seeing Kidd’s face. With that in mind, he helped you remember that he rescued you.
According to Kidd, PTSD and trauma can cause people to forget things. He told you it was okay to forget things. Everyone does. It made you feel better that he knew you so well. You swear he knows you better than you know yourself.
“Pretty, ain’t it?” Your thoughts were interrupted by a voice beside you. To your shock, it was Heat leaning against the railing next to you.
“It is. You’ve been pretty busy these past few months, huh? Feels like I’ve barely seen you.”
“The New World keeps you busy. How’s it with…Kidd?” Heat sends you a look that you couldn’t decipher. Almost sadness, maybe pity? But what would he have to pity you for? You were perfectly healthy, and your life is great!
“Great! He told me he’s making me something, so I’m looking forward to that!” You feel a big smile crawl across your face as you look at the man beside you.
“That’s good.” A silence followed after his words.
“Oh! Also, he’s teaching me self-defense! He’s worried that other pirate groups are gonna take me away. Isn’t he such a sweetheart for worrying about me?” Your gushing didn’t help fix Heat’s expression. Instead, it seemed to worsen it.
“What’s wrong, Heat? You look sad?” Heat sighs before pushing himself off the railing.
“Does the name Sabaody mean anything to you by chance?”
“Huh? I mean, the name sounds familiar, but I can’t remember.” You hear Heat mumble to himself, but you can’t make it out.
“I see. Well, just know that I’m sorry.” You furrow your brows as you watch him walk away. His words made an unease settle inside you. What could he have to be sorry for? Maybe you just misheard? Yeah, that’s the logical answer.
The whole experience made you tired and the calming sunset didn’t help either. With one last look at the sea, you make your way to your and Kidd’s shared bedroom. You couldn’t wait to snuggle under the covers and lay next to him.
Opening the door, you see Kidd already passed out. You smile as you discard your own clothes before joining him in bed.
Throwing open the covers, you lay behind him and look at his bare back. The skin looked so soft that you couldn’t help but gently drag your fingers against his shoulder blades before kissing them. You can feel him tense slightly but let out a small sigh. Rolling his shoulder blades, Kidd turns to look at you over his shoulder.
“Having fun?” Kidd’s groggy voice had you silently laughing.
“Am I not allowed to admire my love? You work so hard as a captain. No doubt you’ll become King of The Pirates.” Kidd turns around to face you, his hair cascading down his face. You smile at him before cupping his cheeks and moving to give him a kiss. His flesh arm grabs you and pulls you closer. You scoot up so your face to face with him. Wanting nothing more than to look in his eyes.
“Cheesy.” He laughs as you pout at his words. With a huff, you turn around, upset that he ruined the mood.
“You big baby.” Kidd places his head on your shoulder before kissing your neck. He kisses the sensitive skin before nibbling across your neck, making you sigh.
“Your so lucky I love you.” A groan leaves Kidd’s lips, and it vibrates along your neck.
“Say it again.”
“I love you Kidd.” You smile as you move your hand so you can run your fingers through Kidd’s red locks. The familiar silk feeling never faded. You can feel Kidd start to suck against your neck to the point red blotches appear.
“I love you too.” It was a silent whisper but still loud enough to have your heart overflowing with love. You never wanted to leave his side. He was the love of your life, and you couldn’t bear the thought of living without him.
~~~~
“Come on! Let’s go shopping! You’ve been busy all week! I haven’t seen you other than bedtime, and even then, you're out cold!” You grab Kidd’s flesh hand with both of yours as you try to drag him away from leaving the bedroom.
“I told you I’m working on something. Don’t be impatient, princess.” Kidd laughs with a cocky grin before throwing you over his shoulder and leaving the room.
“Plus…”
“There’s something I want you to try.”
“Oh? Did Killer make something new?”
“No, and why do you assume Killer made something? I can cook!”
“You’ll be good at cooking the day the sky turns green.” You feel a slight pinch on your thigh, causing you to slap Kidd’s back.
“That hurt you jerk!”
“Kidd!” The sound of footsteps running caught your attention as you caught Killer in the corner of your eye.
“What? Can’t you see I’m busy?” You couldn’t help but laugh when you heard Killer sigh.
“Anyways, we’ve got everything stocked, so we can set sail anytime.”
“Alright, let’s get going.” Kidd’s response had your face drop and your mood souring.
“Hey! You said we could go shopping after you had me try something!”
“Never said that. Nice try, princess.”
“Well, you heavily implied it!” Kidd laughed at you, and it only pissed you off more.
“I actually needed things! I could have just gone by myself-”
“No!” Kidd’s voice boomed in the hallway, echoing repeatedly in your ears. You could feel your mouth grow dry, and your heart skipped a beat. Turning back, you see Kidd glaring at you with his amber eyes. His piercing gaze made you freeze as the look was something you’d never seen before from him.
“You are never to leave this ship unless I say so. Do you understand?” His words put a heavy unease in your stomach. You look at him with shock before you grit your teeth. The air was so tense you could cut it with a knife.
“I’ve got somewhere to be. Bye-” Killer quickly left, leaving you and Kidd alone.
“Kidd put me down.” Seemingly, Kidd snapped out of whatever ‘trance’ he was in and started tripping over his own words.
“Shit I-well…I mean-” You didn’t want to hear it. You were an adult woman who could make her own choices. Even if you loved Kidd, you wouldn’t let him talk to you like that.
“Put me down now. This is not for discussion.” He held onto you for a few more seconds before putting you down. You look up at his face, and to your distress, it was blank. No emotion or anything. But he emitted an aura that had you scurrying away without saying another word.
Seeing Kidd like that deeply disturbed you. Why weren’t you allowed off the ship? And why did you need his permission? Does he not trust you or something? What reason would he have to keep you trapped on the ship?
Your head started pounding, causing you to stop in your tracks. Another migraine. You’ve been getting them a lot more recently, and you couldn’t pinpoint why you got them or why they’ve become more common. It was always in the same spot, right in the back of your head. There happened to be a huge scar there so you originally thought it had to do with that, but Kidd was very insistent that it had nothing to do with the headaches. That it was just a councidence. Per  your request though, kidd’s brought doctors to the ship to check you out, but no results. They gave you some meds, but nothing worked. No ice, meds, dark rooms, or water helped with the pain that it caused. Even though the meds didn’t do anything, you still took them just in case. Which is why you needed to go to town today. To get meds and scar cream.
The scar cream was needed because every time your eyes landed on your body, you saw scars that stuck out like a sore thumb. It bothered you more that you can’t remember how you got them. Well, you did know a few now after Kidd told you what happened. The two rough scars that adorned your left thigh was caused by a Marine after they stabbed you in the thigh when you wouldn’t tell them where Kidd was. There were times where it made you scratch your head cause you were sure that you’d remember something like that.
Another scar you don’t remember is the one on your ankle. Kidd said a pirate tried kidnapping you by putting a shackle on your ankle. While it fit the scar mark, surely it would have taken much longer to make such a scar if you were only really kidnapped for a day or two, like he said. He said the same thing about the one around your neck. Still, your logical side said it was impossible to cause such scars in such a short time. By the looks of them, it would have taken months to cause such damage to the skin. But it didn’t make sense. Why would Kidd lie about something like that?
You understood that trauma can cause memory loss. How much memory is lost truly depends on the person. If that was the case with you, did that mean you endured so much that you forgot almost everything? The thought ate at you. You only had so many memories with Kidd, and when you tried asking him to help you remember more, his eyes went wide, and he stuttered on his words again. At that time, you let it go. Having no reason to question him.
While walking along the ships halls, lost in your thoughts, you passed by a door that caught your attention. Stopping in front of it, you look at it with curiosity. While you don’t remember the door, it feels like you’ve been here before. Curiosity got the best of you, so you went to open the door, only to realize it was locked. A frown works its way on your face before you start backing up. Maybe if you charge at it a little bit, it’ll open.
You didn’t know why you needed to get in so badly, but you wouldn’t leave till you saw what was in that room. So, with a deep breath, you charged your body towards the door.
The sound of your body impacting the door rang throughout the hall. Strangely, the door collapsed after one hit. The sound of the door hitting the ground had a thunderous noise coming from it. You look at the door hinges and notice old damage compared to the new damage you just caused.
“What the?” Looking inside the dark room, you can barely make out what was a lantern light near the very back of the room. Biting your lip, you move quickly through the dark and turn on the lantern light. The suffocating dark of the room soon leaves.
Once you turned on the light, your eyes met an entire wall full of tally marks. A tingling sense of fear hits you as you look closer to them. They weren’t deep enough to be caused by a knife, so it had to be something else.
Looking closer at the scratched wood, you see something embedded in it. Leaning down, you grab it and bring it closer to the light to get a better look. To your shock, it was a fingernail with dried blood on the very bottom of it.
Goosebumps prickled at your skin as the thought of who this could belong to had an unease forming in your stomach. You’ve never heard of this room, and you never heard of Kidd keeping prisoners. The room felt soul-crushing the more you looked around it.
Books scattered across the floor, dust slowly collecting on them. A makeshift bed with a mattress and a few blankets. The bed hadn’t been made, so it caused more questions to roam in your head. If a person was actually in here, did something happen to them? If so, what?
The final nail in the coffin was when you see a spot on the wooden wall that looked darken then the rest of the room. With a deep breath, you slowly move to the spot. With shaky hands, you carefully touch the wood and the texture had a shiver running up your spine. You lifted up the latern light to get a closer look and you can feel time stop as you stare at the wall.
There was no doubt in your mind that what you were looking at was dried blood and how some of it soaked into the wall. Your eyes even catch what seems to be strands of hair stuck against the nails that secured the walls together. Moving the lantern closer, you can see the color of said hair. The room tempeture seemingly dropped to zero when you see that the type of hair stuck against the wall was almost the same as your own.
Your heartbeat quickened, and you decided it was time to leave the small room. While grabbing the light, you see a white piece of paper sticking out from the floorboards in the corner of the room. Almost as if it was trying to be hidden. The paper moved side to side even though there was no wind.
Quickly kneeling down to grab it, you carefully pick up the paper only to realize it was a viver card with the name ‘Rayleigh’ scribbled on it.
“Rayleigh? Who’s…” Your thoughts were interrupted when you heard footsteps coming down the hall. The feeling of impending doom hit you hard, so you quickly scrambled out of the room before running away in the opposite direction of the footsteps.
~~~~
All you did was stare at the food in front of you. It was dinner time, and you still couldn’t get rid of your migraine or the intense feeling of unease. The room full of tally marks that contained an unknown viver card, the dried bloody spot on the wall, Kidd’s outburst, and Heat’s words from the other day all mushed up inside you. You didn’t know what was happening, but you wanted to eliminate the gnawing feeling you were experiencing on the ship you were supposed to call home.
The thought of the tally marks didn’t help you when you remembered the fingernail you found embedded in the wood. While it was disturbing to see it, it was even more distressing when you looked at your own nails. The nail that was supposed to be on your pointer finger was missing, and it seems like it never regrew another one. Not to mention how hair with the same color and texture of yours was also embedded into the the bloody wood.
While it could be an eerie coincidence, it still fueled an unknown fire inside you.
“Hey (Y/N), you okay? Your staring at your plate, and you haven’t eaten a thing.” Looking up, you see Killer sitting on the other side of you.
“I just have a huge migraine, and I’ve been feeling really uneasy. I’m probably just tired or dehydrated. No need to worry.”
“You sure?”
“Yes.” You snap at the man in front of you.
“Is it about Kidd? Have you talked to him yet?”
“No, I haven’t. He needs to apologize first. Treating me like a captive rather than a girlfriend.” Killer coughed, causing you to look at him.
“Ah, I see. I’ll go talk to him. How does that sound?” Letting out a sigh of relief, you smile at Killer.
“That sounds good. Thank you.”
“No problem.” Killer left without another word, leaving you alone now with a cold dinner. Even with Killer going to talk to Kidd, you still didn’t get rid of the unease.
“Psst-(Y/N)!” You hear someone whisper next to you. Turning your head, you see Heat standing outside, waving you over. Quickly looking around, when you saw no one was watching you, you made your way to Heat.
“Hey, what did you need-”
“Eat this.” Heat suddenly shoves something against your chest. You quickly grab it before looking down at it—a yellow-colored fruit with an unnatural pattern and shape.
“What the hell is-”
“No time to explain. Eat first.”
“You didn’t poison it, did you?”
“Eat it!”
“Okay! Okay!” You quickly take a bite and swallow to try to appease the man before you. The fruit's disgusting flavor hit your mouth, and just as you were about to puke, Heat stopped you.
“I know it’s gross, but you need to eat it all. It’s vital that you do.” Looking Heat in the eyes, you see a look of urgency in them. Despite how disgusting it tasted, you had no reason to doubt Heat, so you choked it down.
“Alright, it’s down. Now tell me what the hell I just ate.” You gag slightly before looking at Heat.
“I’ll tell you later, okay? I can’t right now, not when everyone’s awake.” Before you can ask what he meant, you see Heat run across the ship without a sound. It was dark, so he was hard to see to anyone not looking for him.
“Heat you ass. You better tell me what I ate the next time I see you.” The gross taste of the fruit only stuck to your tongue as you whispered into the dark sky. The disgusting aftertaste had you grabbing some water to try and get rid of it. Whatever he made you eat, there better be a good explanation for it.
~~~~
There was an awkward silence between the two of you. You could feel Kidd staring at you as you faced away from him. He hasn’t apologized, and you weren’t going to talk to him till he does.
“Enough of this bullshit.” Before you could question, you felt his flesh hand grab you and pull you close to him. Your back hit his chest as he wrapped his arm around you, locking you in place. Kidd places his head on your own before letting out a sigh.
“Clingy.” You feel him grab your breast, causing you to yelp and hit his arm.
“Mm, not clingy.” Kidd moved his head to your shoulder before placing kisses along your shoulder blade before making his way to your neck. Even though you were mad at him, he always managed to make you forgive him by fucking your brains out. But this time was different. The way his voice sounded, and the look he gave you wasn’t something a simple fuck could fix.
“Us fucking won’t make me forgive you for the way you talked to me earlier. All I want to know is why you were acting the way you were.” With your best attempt, you turn to face him. His hair was down and his face bare, letting you see tiny freckles adorning his skin. You’ll never understand why he hides them. It makes him look so cute.
“Just worry.” Kidd moves his gaze away from you.
“Worried that I’ll get hurt?”
“Yes. Happy now?” A red hue covered Kidd’s face. He wasn’t a man of many words when it came to expressing what he felt. You sigh before placing a kiss on the tip of Kidd’s nose.
“What are you doing?!”
“Giving you a kiss 'cause I forgive you. Just promise not to do that again, alright?”
“Fine, I promise.” It was a whisper, but you’d take it. You smile at Kidd before going to kiss every inch of his face.
Kidd grumbled before his face was as red as his hair. He always got so flustered when you showered him with affection. His cheeks would burn and warm up your cold fingers every time.
“Once we hit the next island, we’re going shopping together, okay? If you're truly worried that I’ll get hurt, you need to plan the day with me.” You softly spoke as you connected your forehead to Kidd’s.
“Why do you wanna go so badly? I can have Killer shop for you-”
“Killer has shit taste. Plus, I’d like to pick out my own panties. What do you want Killer to see-” Kidd pulled you down to his chest, your face smashed against it.
“Okay, you made your point. On the next island we go, we’ll shop. But you are NOT leaving leaving my sight.”
“So paranoid. It’s not like I’m gonna run away.” Kidd squeezed you tight, causing you to cough.
“Just go to sleep.” Rolling your eyes, you press a kiss to his chest and close your eyes. Happy that he finally let you go shopping with him.
Your eyes flutter open when you feel drops of water hitting your face. The water pounded against your skin as you picked yourself up. Rubbing your eyes, you find yourself in a deep forested area caked in mud.
Standing up, you feel your feet sink into the mud, only stopping when your foot is fully covered. The rain slightly cleaned the dirt out of your head as it drenched your now shivering form.
You looked around, and you couldn’t see the end of the forest for miles. A sinking feeling settles in your heart as you realize your alone. You try to scream out for Kidd or anyone, but nothing comes out. Even when you tried to talk in general, all that left your lips was silence. Your heart starts beating against your ribs as the thought of being alone in such a dark forest makes fear fill you.
Just then, the smell of smoke and the feeling of blazing heat sneaks up behind you, causing you to turn around. Terror filled your body as the forest behind you was engulfed in flames. The harsh, pounding rain did nothing to stop the fire from devouring the forest.
To your dismay, you hear screaming coming from the flames before all black silhouettes of humans emerge from the fire. Your mouth falls open as you take a few steps away from the blaze, only for it to spread closer to you.
Taking a deep breath, you take one more step before you start running as fast as you can from the hell behind you. The mud clung to your feet, making it all the much harder to run away. You look behind you and feel your heart stop when the number of silhouettes doubled from the last time you looked at them. Their screams were ear-piercing, and yet, they sounded so familiar. All of them had the same pitch, and all of them sounded like they were in a constant state of agony.
You tried picking up the pace, but the fire only stayed right on your tail. The screaming getting closer as the rain hit your face, making it slightly hard to see in front of you. Despite your lack of voice, you begin screaming for Kidd to come and save you. To get you away from whatever hell is chasing you.
You can feel the flames lick at your feet as your tears mix with the rain. Covering your ears, you desperately tried to ignore the blood-curdling screams coming from behind you. The fact they sounded so familiar disturbed you as you tried to pinpoint the person they came from. Turning around to see how close they were, you could only ‘scream’ in horror when you saw yourself running at you. Different versions of you hunting you down. All of them have some sort of injury covering their body. The same injuries that matched your own scars.
You see yourself in a metal collar and a shackle chained to their foot. Tears streaming down their face as a look of despair plastered on her face. Another was limping but still kept up the pace of the others around them. One of them had obviously been beaten by the swollen black eye all the way to the minor cuts that littered their skin. You see one with a horrifically burned chest. It took you only a couple seconds to recognize that the burn was the exact image of your branding of Kidd’s Jolly Roger on your chest. It then finally clicked on whose screams you were hearing.
They were yours.
Turning back to face forward, you see Kidd standing at the edge of the forest line. Relief washed your body as you drew closer to him. He’d save you from the clones that chased you. He’d save you from them even though they screamed no. Why they were was a question you didn’t care to find out.
A burning grip grabs your left arm and jerks you back towards the flames. Countless more hands grabbed your body  trying to drag you away from Kidd and into the blaze. Their screams of a desperate ‘NO’ rang all around you. You were surrounded by yourself as they held onto you for dear life. Seemingly begging you not to run to Kidd, silently telling you to join them in the flames. Despite their begging, you ignored them as you escaped their grasp and finally made it to Kidd’s arms. A loud scream came from behind you and the sound of flames flickering stopped.
Turning your gaze, you no longer see your disfigured clones. The fire that once chased you gone, almost as if it never existed in the first place, the forest green and lush. Your heart felt like it was gonna beat out of your chest and your lungs burned, But now you were safe, Kidd would never let anything hurt you-
An excuricating pain comes from your stomach. It was something that you couldn’t even describe. Quicly looking down, you see a knife plunged deep into your abdomen and to your horror, Kidd’s hand connected to it.
Looking up, you freeze when you catch a glimpse of his face. The look of insanity stared right back at you.
He pulled the knife from your stomach before lifting it up above his head. His other hand harshly gripping your hair, making you unable to move. You pound your hands against his chest and kick anywhere you can, but he doesn’t move an inch. The way your blood dripped from the blade above your head had your heart stopping before your mouth drops open when you see Kidd violently bring down the knife. It’s only then do you finally hear yourself scream.
Your body jolts up as your scream starts to echo all around Kidd’s room, making the man himself wake up.
“Jesus! What the fuck-” His words died in his throat when he saw you with tears pouring down your face. Fear swirled in your eyes when you turned to look at him.
“(Y/N)?” Your body shook feverishly as you desperately tried to calm yourself down. The room seemed to spin around you as you try to catch your breath. Only when Kidd grabbed you and pulled you closer to him, did you finally come back to reality.
“What the hell is wrong?” Kidd’s grumpy voice only contributed to your never ending tears. You wrapped your arms around him the best you could before hiding your face in his chest.
“It felt so real…I was so scared…” Kidd says nothing, only letting out a low hum. Indicating he’s listening.
“You were in my dream…” You say with a shaky voice before you hear Kidd’s laughter as he puts his chin on your head.
“Oh really? What was I doing?”
“You killed me…” Kidd froze before finally coming up with the words to say.
“I’d never hurt you, alright? So quit your crying princess.” You let out a few sniffles before looking up at him.
“Promise?”
“Promise.” You both lay back down on the bed, holding each other tightly. A few tears still slipped from your eyes before landing on Kidd’s chest. He starts rubbing your lower back before whispering in your ear.
“I’ll never hurt you. Never have and never will.”
~~~~
Ever since the dream, you’ve been extra jumpy. One wrong sound had you heart almost jumping out of your chest. The constant migraines didn’t help either. You just wanted to sit in bed all day and sleep. Unfortunately, overwhelming questions overtook you urge to sleep.
What was the small room and who did it belong too? Who was ‘Rayleigh’ and why was his viver card stuck in between the floorboards? Who’s blood was on the wall? What did Heat make you eat and what was he talking about that day when you both watched the sun set? Lastly, what was the meaning of your nightmare? It must have meant something!
Your head pounded and to your displeasure, you ran out of water and the cool towel you placed on your head earlier had now turned room temperature. With a groan, you slowly get out of bed and wrap a blanket around you. Maybe grabbing some meds will help. It’s been a slow day so hopefully the kitchen won’t be too loud.
While making your way to the kitchen, you hear Killer’s voice whispering to someone else. You carefully get closer to hear what they're saying, you're nosiness getting the best of you.
“Aren’t you worried? At least a little bit?”
“Why should I? The accident was 5 months ago and ever since then, everythings going my way. She remembers me and only me. Not the pathetic straw hats and anything I’ve done before she hit her head again!”
“I don’t know Kidd. You should at least have a plan in case anything were to happen.”
“What the hell are you going on about? What could possibly happen?” You could feel your heart pounding in your chest as you bit your lip.
“I found the room’s door busted open a week ago. The dust had been disturbed and it was obvious someone has been in there-”
“What?! Why didn’t you tell me sooner?!”
“I tried but you weren’t paying attention! So don’t yell at me for your lack of listening skills.”  A tingling feeling moved through your fingers before spreading to your whole body as you try to make sense of what the conversation between Kidd and Killer could be about? But one thing you did know now was that whatever room you stumbled into, you were never suppose to see.
“Board up the door. Hell place small traps, just make sure she can’t get in.” Another uneasy feeling filled your heart as you eavesdrop on a conversation that had given you more questions. What could have been so important behind that door that Kidd’s making Killer board it up?
A pounding in your head started up again which helped you remember what you really left the room for. After taking a quick breath, you start to walk down the hallway where they ‘hid’. Just to see if they’d continue the conversation if you walked by.
“Oh, (Y/N)! What are you doing up? I thought you had a migraine?” Killers panicked voice rang in your ears, giving you the confirmation that you weren’t suppose to know about their conversation.
“Was going to the kitchen to get some meds. Did I interrupt something?”
“Nope. Not at all.”
~~~~
Almost everyone was asleep by the time you went out on the deck to watch the stars. Kidd was in his workshop no doubt while Wire and Killer were tonights lookout. It allowed you to have a nice quiet evening to count the stars and ponder on your thoughts.
With a warm cup of tea in your hands and a fuzzy blanket wrapped around you, it was hard not to give in to the temptation to fall asleep. The waves hitting against the ship was a smooth melody that had your eyelids grow heavy.
“Mind if I join you?” Turning your head, you see Heat sitting down a few feet away from you.
“You owe me an explanation on that wretcehd fruit you made me eat.” A quick laugh came from the man next to you.
“I thought you might have known by now but I guess I was wrong. But what I had you eat was a devil fruit.” His words had you spitting out the tea you were drinking before you looked at him in shock.
“A devil fruit?! Why on earth would you feed me a devil fruit?!” You whisper yell at him while looking around to make sure no one was eavesdropping.
“You won’t understand it all right now but trust me it’s going to be a big help-”
“No more cryptic messages! I want to know what’s going on!”
“It’s hard to explain alright!” Whatever Heat was withholding from you had to be something serious cause the way he was acting was starting to piss you off.
“Just tell me, what’s the last vivid thing you remember?” His question caught you off guard. Last vivid thing you remember? What could he mean by that?
“Go back from times from when you met Kidd.” Furrowing your brows, you turn to stare down at your knees.
Kidd told you that he met you after saving you from the other pirate group that burned your entire town to the ground. Saying nothing was left except ashes and smoke. With that being said, you try to remember it, but all you could see was fog. The same thing happening with other memories or things Kidd told you happened. All your memories were so foggy that it soon felt like you were missing a whole chunk of your life that you didn’t remember.
“Nothing. I…don’t remember anything at all. All there is, is fog.” Heat whispers a curse and you can feel another tingling sensation crawling across your skin.
“You need to trust me, okay (Y/N)?”
“Trust you? What are you going on about?”
“Everything Kidd’s told you? It’s a lie.” Hearing Heat’s words, your eyes widen.
“What are you talking about? I don’t understand?” The tingling sensation grew stronger as you try to understand Heat’s words.
“Kidd is not the ‘savior’ you think he is. He’s lying to you (Y/N).” The world seemed to start spinning around you. You knew that there were things that Kidd could’ve been hiding from you after overhearing his conversation with Killer. But is Heat was acting like this, then there had to be something more that you didn’t know. Yet the question still stands.
Why would Kidd lie to you? What was there to lie about?
“Don’t trust what Kidd says. No matter how convincing he may sound. I can’t explain everything right now but you have to believe me.” Heat grabs you by the shoulders and looks at you, the look of desperation filled his eyes. You can feel your heart beat quicken as you try to make sense of the whole situation. How deep could such a rabbit hole be if Killer, Kidd, and Heat knew something that you didn’t? You go to say something but no words leave your mouth. Every one of your senses was overloaded to the point where your body started to get fidgety and your breathing starts getting faster.
Just then, you see a bright light before a loud ZAP could be heard. You see Heat recoil back shaking his hands as if to cool them down. Worry filled you as you go to see if he’s okay, but your eye catches something slithering along your hand.
With wide eyes, you watch as what you could only describe as lightning snake across your arms and hands. A low buzzing could be heard as you comeptley forgot about Heat in shock of watching what was happening to yourself.
“Fuck that hurt.” Heat’s words went through one ear and out the other as small bursts of electricity started to accumulate in your palms. You quickly make a fist to try and stop whatever was happening, only for it to continue the moment you opened your hand again.
Your hands start to shake as you slowly move your hands together and watch as the small flickers of electricity grow louder and bigger. Heat’s words from moments ago lost on you as you couldn’t help but be memorized by what you were creating with your own two hands.
The sound of it flickering reminded you of flames while you looked at it. The fact you were creating something so unnatural, something so extrordinary, had you speechless. It felt like a dream watching the ball of pure eletricity crackle in your palms
It’s only when it started to get bigger that it started to burn and shock your palms to a painful amount. You started freaking out as you turn to Heat for any advice.
“What do i do?!”
“Throw it out to sea like a ball or something!” Without a second thought, you did just that and to both of your relief’s, the ball of pure electricity left your hands and flew straight out to sea. Small lights flashing around it as it grew smaller and smaller the farther it got.
The low buzzing quickly stopped and the small ropes of electricity fizzled out. Your heart beat still ran wild as you slowly turn your head to Heat, who looked just as shocked as you. No words could’ve been said as you both look at each other, astonished at what had just happened mere seconds ago.
To your dismay, the familiar sound of Kidd’s footsteps approached where you and Heat sat. You both try to quickly shake off the shock that covered your faces and try to act like you didn’t almost electrify Heat moments ago.
“There you are. Why are you on the deck? It’s late.” With a quiet gulp, you respond.
“I had another nightmare so I came to get some fresh air and Heat was already here.” A low hum comes from Kidd as you see him give Heat a questioning glance before moving towards you.
“Well your gonna get sick if you stay out here. Let’s go.” Grabbing your blanket wrapped body, Kidd threw you over his shoulder.
“I can walk you know?” You laugh before turning your attention back to Heat. He puts a finger to his lips before you lose sight of him as Kidd walks away.
~~~~
The sounds of peoples screams had your eyes shooting open in fear. What could be causing such a horrific noise? Rubbing your eyes, you let your vision adjust before you finally got a look at the hell that surrounded you.
Flames higher then the sky flickered and roared as it engulfed the buildings around you. The heat it produced almost as suffocating as the smoke that came from it.
You look around, hoping to find the cause of the screams, yet no one was there. All that was there, was you. You and the fire that circled you. It closed in closer and closer as you breathed in the smoke. It burned your lungs as the heat soon started to affect how open your eyes could be. You couldn’t even hear your own breathing due to how loud the flames yelled around you.
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps came from behind you, causing you to walk away. Whatever could survive in such heat was not something human. Through the flames, you can see a silloutte of a man. Taller then any man then you’ve ever seen. Due to the flames, it even looked like the man had horns and a tail. He looked like the devil himself engulfed in the blaze. Yet when the man finally stepped out of the flames, it caused you to step back and lose your footing, falling to the ground with a thud.
It looked like Kidd. But it couldn’t be Kidd. The man in front of you didn’t have a single scar to be seen. Both arms in a competely different coat. Yet when you looked into the man’s eyes, there was no doubt that the man in front of you was the man you called your lover.
Your eyes scanned him and you can feel your blood freeze when you see his hands covered in blood. Fresh enough to where the blood drips down his fists. His boots covered in the red liquid as well.
“Must be my lucky day. I get to burn down an entire village and keep a little trophy.” The laughter that left his throat had your body shaking. A sense of dread filled your soul as you unknowingly get on your feet.
The man in front of you started running at you with speed you could never compare to, yet you still ran.
Running through the flames, you can feel them eat away at your flesh as you try your best to run away from teh laughing man behind you. Smoke invaded you lungs as breathign soon became harder and harder. Your eyes scanned your surroundings and its then when you realize where you are.
Home.
The building collapsing in on themselves causing ashes to float into the air. All the buildings that stood with you through your childhood burning to the ground. Not a single one was spared from the blaze. Everything from the homes of the citizens to the hospital was burning to the ground without a care in the world.
The sight was too much to bear and hearing Kidd’s words earlier had your mind racing. A trophy? Burning down an entire village?
Your village.
No it couldn’t be right. Kidd saved you. He saved you from the monsters that took everything away from you. He couldn’t be the one to cause all the destruction that left you the only surivor of a village that had once been bustling with people.
“Your too slow princess.” A large hand digs its fingers into your hair and grips harshly. Your jerked back as you can feel your scalp burn as the man behind you pulled you to the ground. A sickening crunch echoed in your skull.
With your eyes wide open in seconds, you sit up and look around. Your breathing heavy as you see that your in Kidd’s bedroom. It’s almost pitch black but you can see teh sunrise peaking out in the horizon, casting a small light into the room.
Looking to yoru side, you see Kidd laying away from you. His breathing calm and a small snore left him. His body covered in the scars that you love and knew. Yet at the moment, you couldn’t bear to look at him.
With your heart still beating against your ribs, you carefully lay back down against the soft sheets of the bed. But instead of curling up next to your lover, you moved to the very edge of the bed. Anything just to get away from him.
~~~~
A week has passed since Heat confronted you about Kidd. Not a second goes by were you didn’t think about it. Was there something Kidd was lying to you about? If so, what could it be? And why? Could it possibly have to do with the small room? What about the secret conversation between Kidd and Killer? Who were they talking about? What was the ‘incident’ Kidd was babbling about? All these questions burned into your brain and bothered you every second of the day.
And it’s starting to show.
According to some crew mates, you’ve been more quiet and reserved then normal. Killer has noticed it too but Kidd hasn’t said a word. Was he holding back? Has he not noticed? He’s been busy in his workshop so maybe that’s why? You were hanging out with him in the workshop as well but he’s got all his attention on his trinkets at that point. Either or, the knowledge that something was going on and you have yet to figure it out what it is has affected you to the point you started to lose sleep over it.
It was about 1am when you looked at the clock. You had tried to go to bed at 10 but all you could do was toss and turn. Your eyes had slowly adjusted to the darkness and all you could do was stare at the ceiling. Counting sheep didn’t work and Kidd wasn’t in bed to give you some sense of warmth and safety. He was on watch tonight and the loneliness didn’t help your insomnia.
Even though you were perfectly warm in bed, Kidd’s presence might be able to help your uneasy mind. So grabbing your comforter, you get out of bed and start journey to find Kidd.
Walking down the corridors of the Victoria Punk at night never bothered you before. It was home so there was no reason to be scared, but now it feels as if a million eyes were watching you. Staring you down without a word. The feeling was suffocating as you try your best to quickly run out to the deck of the ship.
Once you were out on the deck, you looked around to try and find Kidd. There was a new moon tonight so the sea’s were even darker than normal. The floorboards creaked with each step you took as you continued your journey to find Kidd.
“Kidd? Where are you?” Your voice were quiet as you looked for any signs of life. It’s only when you saw light in the corner of your eye that you finally let out a breath. A small smile played on your lips as you decide to give him a little scare.
You tip toe to the light source and you see Kidd’s shoes popping out from the corner. Just as you were about to attack, you were flung forward, causing you to fall on Kidd’s lap.
“Next time you try to scare me princess, don’t wear metal bracelets that clink around.” Kidd gives you a smug grin before pulling you up, having you sitting on his lap. Your head laying on the soft fur of his red coat.
“Kidd, can I ask you something?”
“What?”
“Have I been more closed off then usual? Maybe it’s just the migraines and my lack of sleep, but I feel…I don’t know how to describe what I feel.” You throw the comforter covering you to cover the small part of exposed skin Kidd had on his chest. Moving your head to look up, you see Kidd staring back down at you. His amber eyes scanning your face.
“I haven’t noticed. Probably cause you’ve been following me around like a lost puppy. You’ve just been hanging out with me more as you should.” He wasn’t wrong. You’ve tried to stick closer to him, hoping that his presence will push away the questions that have raided your mind. It’s worked but the times where it hasn’t out weights the time it has. In fact sometimes it even worsens it. The thought of him doing anythign behind your back that could possibly involve you had you tearing up. And now with Heat’s words plaguing your mind it plays in your head like a broken record.
“You’d never lie to me right?” Your voice laced with insecurity as you grabbed his metal hand and held it.
“This about another nightmare? Told ya princess, their not real. What would I possibly have to lie to you about?” Kidd lets his flesh arm wrap around your body and lets you continue to hold his metal hand. A slight red hue on his cheeks.
“I guess. I’m sorry for bothering you so much.” You turn your head to kiss his neck lightly before snuggling on his chest.
“Good. Now go to sleep. I ain’t going anywhere.” Without another word, your eyes flutter shut, letting the darkness embrace you.
Your awaken by loud explosions and the ground shaking harshly, yet when your eyes open, you find yourself laying on lush green grass. Rubbing your eyes, you notice that your surrounded by the biggest tree’s  you’ve ever seen in your entire life. Bubbles floating all around you, giving you a small feel of childhood nostalgia.
Reaching out, you go to touch a bubble in front of you only for a gunshot to echo around you and simultanisouly pop all together. Jumping to your feet, you look around trying to pinpoint teh cause of the gunshot. The sound of the soapy substance under your feet had you worrying that someone might hear you.
Another gunshot rings out and in your panic, you bring to run away from the direction of where the sound came from. As soon as you were 20ft from where you woke up, the sounds of gunshots multiplied. Not it sounded like there were hundreds of shots being fired instead of just one. Fear coursed though your veins as your heart worked harder to pump blood into your system.  Quickly glancing back, you see hundreds of shadows holding guns and shooting them in your direction.
It’s then when you go to look up to the sky, you notice to your horror that the sky was black. A never ending black abyss that not even the blackest of nights could compare. You were speechless as you continue running from the shadows that followed your every move. It was a miracle you haven’t been shot yet.
You can hear bullets passing by your head as they broke through the wind. Panic started overtaking your sense of reasonas you look every which way to try and find a spot to hide. You don’t know how much longer you have left to run on your feet.
The familiar sound of buzzing hit your ears, making you look down. You see ropes of electricity moving across your body, causing your heart to quicken. What could you possibly do now? You have two problems to take care of now! Running from teh gunshots that threatened to take you down and now trying to control your new found devil fruit power before it gets out of control and ends up hurting you.
Before you could take another step, the sound of gunfire ceased. NO more bullets whizzing past your head and no more jumping to avoid getting shot in the leg. Whipping your head around to see why it stopped, you can feel your blood freeze at what you saw.
A huge scarred red snake looking right back at you. It’s amber eyes staring right through you. Your words caught in your throat as the snake lifted itself up, making it taller than you by 10x. It’s body longer than any sea king you’ve seen. The sound of it hissing brought you back to your senses. With a quick turn around, you start running away from the giant predator. The ground started to shake as you could hear is slithering right behind you. To your horror, you didn’t even make it 10ft before the giant snake wrapped it’s body around your own.
Even with your body emmiting the cursed electricity, the snake was unbothered. You struggled to free yourself, but were no match against it’s strength. The snakes hissing simply got louder as it got closer to your trapped form. It’s eyes locked with yours and only then did it hit you who’s eyes they belonged to.
“K-Kidd? What the h-hell?” You can feel the snake tighten it’s grip against your body as it opened it’s mouth. Two gianormous fangs protruded from it’s gums. The snake moved it’s head back a little more before striking towards you.
Only then, did you scream at the top of your lungs.
Your eyes shoot open as you quickly looked around. To you relief, you see the Victoria pushing through the waves. Looking up, you see Kidd sleeping, his arms still tight around you. Your breathing calms as you lay back down on his fur coat, your eyes never leaving his face.
“What are you hiding?”
~~~~
After teh most recent dream, you started to distance yourself from everyone, includding Kidd. You needed time to think, and time to control the power that digusting fruit gave you.
So far, everytime it’s shown itself, it’s been when you were overwhelemed with emotions. It brought you to the conclusion that you might have to think og things that upset you for it to show itself. Which brought you down to the hallway with the small room was in. Even though the small room freaked you out to no end, it was far from everyone and at the very bottom of the ship. No one would be there so it’d be easy for you to truly practice wihout being interrupted!
As soon as you reached the small room,  you curse yourself for being so forgetful. Wooden planks nailed in front of the door along with a sign saying ‘OFF LIMITS’. This must have been Killers doing after Kidd told him to board up the door. You furrow your brows as you look at teh door. THere was no way you’d get in normally, no with how thick those boards were.
Scanning the door a little bit more, your eyes catch a tiny spot at the very bottom of the door that Killer didn’t board up. If the door wasn’t there you’d be able to crawl under teh planks.  Your brain went through idea after idea before one finally had your interest piqued.
Looking at both ends of the hallway to see if it’s clear, you sit down and move your body closer to the door. Putting your hands on teh ground for support, you move your leg back before kicking it forward with all your might. THe sound of the wood splittering had you smiling, knowing that your plan to kick a hole in the door was going to work. All you had to do, was give it a few more powerful kicks, then you’d be in the room in no time!
BAM!
BAM!
BAM!
CRACK!
Finally, your foot kicks through the door. A quiet yes leaves your lips as you look around the hallway once more to check if anyone heard it. Seeing you were alone once more, you scoot closer to teh door to kick in more of the wood, just to make sure it was big enough to crawl through.
BAM!
BAM!
BAM!
Splinters of wood scatter around the newfound hole in teh door. But you didn’t care, now you could crawl through and do what you originally planned to do.
Crawling through the hole, your met with darkness once again. You move around and try to feel for the lantern light that you had left last time you were there. WHen you finally manage to find it and turn it on, you stand up and take a deep breath. Looking around the room, you ignore the tally marks and blood, and get ready for your new ‘training’.
~~~~
“God this is much harder then I thought it’d be.” You didn’t know how long you’ve been in the small room, but it was certainly long enough to feel your body on the verge of collapsing. With a few last stretches, you get ready to crawl back under the door. As soon as you start moving towards the hole, horror washes over you when you hear footsteps echo in the halls. Heavy footsteps make their way closer and closer to the busted door.
You quickly move your body through the small opening, trying to get out as fast as you can. As you almost make it halfway through, a piece of sharp wood scratched your back and ripped your shirt, taking a small piece with it. Biting your lip, you try to hold in a yelp of pain. Once you finally make it through teh door, you knew you didn’t have much time left to hide. You desperatly look around the hall before a small pile of crates catch your eye. Quickly you manouver yourself to hide behind the crates as quietly as you could.
Once you were out of sight, you manage to have a small sliver of light that allowed you to peak outside your hiding spot and look directly at the door. The footsteps go louder and so did your heartbeat.
“Fucking shit.” Your eyes widen at the familiar voice of your lover. Looking between the crates, you see him kneeling down, inspecting the broken door. You can feel your blood freeze when you see Kidd holding the ripped piece of your shirt in between his fingers.
“Heat, you are so fucking dead. This is the last time you play hero.” Kidd returns to standing and starts storming back the way he came. A deep dread fills you after hearing Kidd words. You needed to warn Heat! You wouldn’t be able to live with yourself if you had gotten Heat killed due to your recklessness.
You needed to warn Heat and you needed to warn him now.
~~~~
Once the dark of night had covered the Victoria punk, everyone had made their way to bed. Ever since you made your way back to the deck after teh events of earlier today, you made sure to always be by Kidd or always have Heat in your eyesight. There hasn’t been an oppurunity to warn him yet. What if you couldn’t warn him fast enough?
But thankfully tonight, the crew decided it was Heat’s turn to keep watch for the night. Hearing that, it was the perfect oppurtunity to warn him! All you needed was to keep Kidd distracted for a second. But first, you needed to brush your teeth since whatever the hell Killer had cooked left an unpleasant aftertaste. Kidd was following you to the bathroom probably to do his skincare routine and drag you into it like always. You didn’t mind usually, but tonight was different.
“Make anything in the workshop today love?”
“Working on my arm.” Turning your head, you see Kidd leaning against the wall behind you.
“Adding anything cool? Or just repairs?” You question as you brush your teeth.
“Repairs.” His plain answers had an unease bubbling in your stomach.
“Kidd! Where are you?” Killer’s voice broke through the small tension in the room.
“Oi! Give me a second!” You see Kidd go to leave teh bathroom making you quickly grab his metal arm.
“Don’t go! Stay with me!” Kidd looks at you and you give him a pout.
“It’ll be a second alright? What’s got you so clingy princess?” You wrap your arms around his torso the best you could before looking up at him.
“Am I not allowed to want to spend time wiht my lover?” Leaning up, you manage to press a kiss to Kidd’s lips as you stand on your tip toes. You can see Kidd’s face turn red before he grumbled and tried looking away from you.
“Your clingy.”
“Clingy cause I love you.” You send him a smile which caused the red hair man to sigh before leaning down to kiss your forehead.
“Love you too. Now, give me a second to see what’s got Killer bitching and moaning.” His first words were mumbled against your lips before he pulled away and walked out the bedroom door. You could thankfully hear them talking so it calmed you down knowing he wasn’t far and anywhere near Heat. Heat would be okay for a little longer.
~~~~
Kidd had been talking for awhile. What on earth could be taking him so long?
After finishing your own skincare routine, you leave the bathroom and make your way out of the bedroom door. To your surprise you see nothing. But you could still hear Kidd and Killer’s voices. Quietly, you tip toe towards their voices, yet the closer you got, the more you notice the voices didn’t sound quite…human.
When you finally turn the corner, you feel your heart drop to your stomach. Instead of what should have been Kidd and Killer, was pre-recorded responder snails ‘talking’ to one another.
Horror filled yoru body when you realizing what’s happening. Turning around, you start running as fast as you could to make yoru way to the deck. Praying that Kidd hasn’t done anything to Heat. You cursed yourself for being so dumb and taking so long to realize. The sound of your footsteps echo the halls and ring in your own ears.
After finally making it to the deck, your eyes quickly scan around to see any sort of movement or light. Suddenly, a loud thud comes from your right and you see a bright light. Not wasting anymore time, you make a mad dash towards light and sound.
The closer you got, you could finally hear Kidd’s voice break through teh silence.
“You think your fucking slick?! Did you think I wouldn’t notice?!”
“Kidd, what are you talking about?” Another thud rings across the deck as Heat lets out a rough cough.
“I’ll be damned if you ruin this for me, Heat.” When you finally make it close enough, you see what was happening.
Heat sitting against the railing breathing heavily, red slowly seeping into his clothes. You turn yoru eyes to Kidd as you let out a gasp of horror when you see a bloody knife clutched tightly in his hand.
Heat coughed once more and you can see droplets of blood leave his mouth. You see Kidd getting closer to heat and that’s when you start running cause you knew right then that if you didn’t do something right now, Kidd was going to kill him.
Your footsteps had Heat slowly looking up before his eyes widen. Shock evident in his face as he sees you running in his direction.
“I’ll just tell the others you fell overboard. That’s all I need to tell (Y/N) and she would never ask another question.” Kidd moves closer to Heat still clutching the knife.
“Should have stayed out of things that don’t concern you. Now, you get to see what happens when someone tries to take something that belongs to me-”
“No!” Before Kidd could strike, you move in front of Heat and move your arms so theyre spread out to protect Heat from both sides. A silence fell over the three of you as Heat’s ragged breath was the only thing you could hear.
“(Y/N). Step aside. Don’t you know what he’s done? He’s a spy for the marines! He’s a traitor!” Despite Kidd’s words, you didn’t move a muscle. The tingling sensation grew stronger has you fear Kidd’s next move.
“Move (Y/N). I’m trying to protect you. Come here, it’s not safe to be next to him-” Kidd moves his flesh arm to grab you and before you could properly think, the familiar buzzing before a loud ZAP echoed across teh Victoria Punk.
“Son of a bitch!” Reeling back, you lover moves his hand up and down against his red cloak, trying to get rid of the shock.
“(Y/N)...” Turning around, you quickly move to Heat’s aid. You look around to see for any more wounds but only see teh stab wound that was stationed dangerously close to his heart.
“Hang on! You’ll be okay! Just give me a second!”
“Where did you get devil fruit powers.” Kidd’s voice broke through your panic and you turn to see his face. His face looked just as sinsiter as his voice. The look was worse than teh day he refused to let you off the boat.
“I-I..”
“You gave her devil fruit powers?! I’m going to kill you, you bastard!” Your hear almost stops as you watch Kidd stomp towards the two of you. It truly felt like another nighmare the way Kidd’s face looked. Standing up once again, you place yourself in front of Heat as you move your arms away from your side. Buzzing hit your ears and you can see electricity slither around your body, helping you by giving off a threatening aura.
“Don’t hurt him Kidd!” Kid moves his hand towards you and just as you think he’d gonna grab your am, his hand grip your hair and throws you behind him. Your body landing against the wooden deck with a loud ‘thunk’.
The air was knocked out of your lungs and your head pounded. You cough and struggle to regain the air before turning your eyes to Heat and Kidd. With eyes widening in horror as before you could do anything else, you see Kidd grab Heat by his shirt and lift him to his feet.
“Have fun at the bottom of the sea Heat! Say hi to the sea kings for me will ya?” With the rest of yoru strength, you pull yourself to your feet. You only took one step before you feel time stop.
Giving Heat a harsh shove, you watch Kidd throw him back, causing Heat to tumble over the railing. A scream leaves your voice as tears rim your eyes. Your legs move on their own as you go to the railing, hoping to see Heat hanging on, but the sound of a splash crushes your hope almost instantly.
Kidd turns around and looks at your shaking form. A look of insanity plastered on his face. You didn’t even have the time to register how close Kidd was before you feel Kidd dig his fingers in you hair, dragging you away from teh crime scene.
“You couldn’t just mind your own buisness and wait could you? But that’s fine. I can teach you once more. I’ll do it as long as it takes, no matter how much blood that needs to be spilled.” Tears start pouring down your cheeks. The monster dragging you was not the Kidd you knew. Well, the Kidd you thought you knew.
Unfortunately, you were too late to see the truth, and Heat paid the price for your ignorance.

Rating all* the Hellfire Gala 2023 Outfits in my Correct Opinion
*At least, all that I can find, because Marvel decided fuck making that easy in a little book or a single post like last year.
(Long post alert!)
Tumblr media
Iceman, I love most of this look. The accented orange is perfect for the mostly blue look, and I love that he has a matching earring for his cuff-links. Such a nice touch! But those rubber boots, man... those rubber boots ruin it for me. 8/10
Tumblr media
Fisk is giving off some Doctor Doom vibes with this outfit. I love the regalness of it, especially the golden leaves behind the ear. 9/10
Tumblr media
??? I'm not sure who this is, but their outfit looks like they're going to a Halloween party rather than a gala. 3/10
Tumblr media
Emma, oh my god, YES. Almost always delivering, and this is definitely one of those cases! 10/10
Tumblr media
Xavier... I hate to say it, but I genuinely love this look. He's bringing major space man vibes, and it's super elegant at the same time. 9/10
Tumblr media
Bishop doesn't even get points for effort. He got a red suit then slapped some belts on it. Boring as fuck. 1/10
Tumblr media
I was about to write another "???" because I had no idea who this was, until it occurred to me that I think this is supposed to be Scarlet Witch? Except she is super duper whitewashed, so I did not even recognize her. Auto-failure regardless of the look. 0/10
Tumblr media
Proteus looks moderately snazzy, but out of the Five is the least interesting in my opinion. 3/10
Egg has a cool coat, but those balls around his neck are way too big and awkward. 4/10
Hope looks a little like a fairy princess here, and I like that! 7/10
Tempus looks like she's going to a prom more than a gala, and I don't know what's going on with that giant shoulder piece. Did Cable lend it to her or something? 4/10
Elixir, my golden boy, is embracing the shiny and I love it! 9/10
Tumblr media
Exodus seems to be trying out a new costume rather than a gala look, but in terms of style, it's fine. 5/10
Tumblr media
Vision's outfit is as boring as he is. 1/10
Tumblr media
Miles, holy shit. Miles should be giving lessons to everyone else on how to actually make a suit look unique! Bishop, take notes. 9/10
Tumblr media
Old Laura looks like she's dressed for a gothic funeral more than a gala, but at least that's to her style rather than some crazy OOC look. So, points for that. 5/10
Tumblr media
T'Challa... I. Am. Swooning. I know he's not a king right now but damn does he ever look like it in this outfit. The beautiful patterns and complimentary colours, holy shit. 10/10
Tumblr media
Synch has certainly done way better in the past. It's just a plain black suit without a shirt, for fuck sake. 2/10
Tumblr media
Captain Marvel looks like she's a marching bad, lol. The stars in the hair are a nice touch, though. 3/10
Tumblr media
Jean's look is, I know, divisive. I've seen some people say they adore this design, and some people say they hate it. I'm personally on the fence. I think it would be better without the stupid helmet, that's for sure. And I think it looks a little too much like an Emma Frost design, if you were to just colour it white. 5/10
Tumblr media
Fantomex? Where the fuck have you been? Anyway, he literally just looks like he always looks but with some sunglasses lmfao. 0/10
Tumblr media
Dylan looks like a moody teen as ever, lol. I do like the black and white though. 6/10
Tumblr media
Black Cat... Like I said, I like black and white together, but this is giving me too much Cruella de Vil vibes. 4/10
Mary Jane just picked up an evening gown off the rack I guess. 2/10

Firestar, I think? Not actually positive if it's her. Anyway, the sleeves are a bit too much for me, but I love the fiery frills on the cape. 5/10

Thor looks so ugly here lmfao I'm sorry but I hate this look. It's way too clunky. 0/10

At first I thought this was Kwannon, but then I remembered seeing panels and I believe it's Kitty/Kate. Anyway, I like the lace-up boots and I like the frills. 7/10

Hellcat looks like she's took some inspiration from a wrestler's pre-fight look, and I like that. It's simplistic but just enough stylish to pass. 6/10

Nova, going with a tits out look as well I see. I like the feathered shoulder pads, and I like the skirt. 6/10

Moon Knight, oh my god, I have a strong feeling it was Steven who pulled the strings to get a gala look, because there's no fucking way Marc or Jake would be caught dead there. Anyway, this is exactly the type of vibe I would expect from MK, maybe even a bit more playful than that with the mesh part of the top. And I really like it up until the strange boots. He and Iceman must've compared notes or something. Still, 8/10

Psylocke - now THIS is Kwannon for sure! I like the classical ninja meets evening gown look, and I like that she's sexy but not to the point of being objectified, which is a refreshing change for how artists often treat her. 8/10

Destiny and Mystique I will rate together because the score is the same: A what the fuck level of 0/10.

Forge looks fucking awesome, especially compared to last year. I love the fringe and the scarf and the jewellery and the cane... it's a complete look that gives me great vibes. 8/10

Cyclops, come on, man. You can do better than this, can't you? He looks like Mister Sinister dressed him or something. 1/10

Cuckoos look like they stepped off the set of Tron: Legacy. Or a Daft Punk concert. Not complaining to be clear, this look fucks. 10/10
