Fic Writer Questions

I'm bored and this was in a note on my phone from forever ago, so I must have been tagged at some point. Apologies to whoever tagged me. 🥴

1) How many works do you have on AO3?

52. Though, I used to have a few more. I deleted a few fics some years ago bc I hated that they were just sitting there unfinished. I was going through a particularly brutal bout of writer's block that affected both my fic writing and my RP writing.

2) What's your total AO3 word count?

720,782. And I was stressing about a 30-page thesis. 😂 (which ended up being over 15,000 words)

3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

I started writing fic in 2000 with *NSYNC, Christina Aguilera, and Backstreet Boys fics. I stopped writing a bit around 2004-2007 (because of a stupid boy) and picked it up again in 2012 after reading some awesome Cherik fics and wanting to write my own FrostIron College AU when I read one that was good, but kind of disturbing. I think I write for one fandom -- Marvel -- but, like different factions of it. FrostIron and WinterFrost mostly, with a dash of Stucky, ThunderFrost, DashingFrost, and WinterIron.

4) What are your Top 5 fics by kudos?

5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I really do make an effort to respond to every single comment, even the not-so-nice ones. I want people to know I've seen and read the comment they took the time to post, so even if I just thank them for reading and commenting, I respond.

6) What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

Considering it features two -- count 'em, two! -- major character deaths, it's definitely Empire State of Mind. Though, I'd argue Dark Side is a pretty close second.

7) What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

Probably Ghosts That We Knew. It was the final fic in the trilogy that is the Picture Perfect Series. It follows Loki and Tony from when they meet in college and ends 30+ years later.

8) Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you've written?

No, not really. And I rarely, if ever, read them. There's no real reason behind it other than I've just never come upon one and thought "ooh I need to read that."

9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Yes. I got a lot of hateful messages after I completed Empire State of Mind. People were really angry at me for killing off two major characters. I mean, a lot of the messages were "omg I hate you but I loved this!" kind of vibe. But there were a few that cussed me out and called me names for writing it.

I had some chapters of a Fools Rush In FrostIron AU posted a while ago, in which Loki was a female, the only daughter in both the Odinson and Laufeyson families. Following the storyline of the Matthew Perry/Salma Hayek movie, Loki meets Tony Stark in a bar and gets pregnant from a one night stand. Anyway, I got a lot of messages telling me that Odin's misogyny and mistreatment of Loki was unrealistic -- even though I had literally modeled his behavior after the movie that inspired it. 🤷🏽

I have some prompts done for the 100 Ways to Say ILY writer's block challenge and for one of them, I borrowed the storyline from an episode of Will & Grace when Will's father dies of a heart attack after they have a bad argument where his father basically admits he wished Will wasn't gay so he could have had an easier life. In the epsiode, the fight starts because Will's parents gift his baby blanket to Grace, who is pregnant with her ex-husband's child. Will takes offense, they don't understand why bc he never mentioned wanting children, and a fight ensues. Similarly, in my fic, Frigga and Odin offer a pregnant Natasha (his BFF) Loki's blanket. Some readers did not like this and did not understand why I would write it. In another prompt, one that was literally how my last relationship ended, got some harsh critiques. Those ones hurt especially bc it was such a personal experience I wrote about.

And I actually got into a fight -- like a screaming match -- IRL with my best friend's boyfriend at the time. One of my bestie's friends asked about my fanfiction and I gave them the gist of one of my stories where Loki has a brief relationship with Sif that results in a child and later reconnects with Tony. Later on, Sif offers to be a surrogate for Tony and Loki and eventually births three more children for them. Bestie's boyfriend could not fathom why a woman would purposely get herself impregnated and then give the child away. I tried to explain that this was a thing that a lot of women did IRL -- and some don't even use their own eggs, but the eggs of a woman who cannot conceive; Sif used her own eggs so that all four children were half related (two by Loki, two by Tony). But he just did not believe me and told me I must not be a very good writer. Worst night of my life.

10) Do you write smut?

I was just telling @teadrinkingwolfgirl the other night how when I first started writing fic I did not write sex scenes. It was always inferred or glossed over. When I started writing again in 2012, for FrostIron, it was my first time writing more detailed sex. I cite Jackie Collins as my smut-writing mentor. I've written almost exclusively M/M smut.

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! Which is like the best thing ever! A couple of my older fics have been translated to Russian. I have one *NSYNC fic that was made into an audio fic. And someone recently messaged me on ff*net to ask to translate as many of my fics as they can to Spanish. :D

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, not technically. I've gotten a lot of prompts and ideas from friends and mutuals, and I started reformatting my WinterFrost RP with my ex from 2014-2015 into novel form a while ago. That's tecnically the only thing I've written with someone else and published.

14) What's your all time favorite ship?

I have two that will always, ALWAYS, have my heart and attention. FrostIron (Tony Stark/Loki) and WinterFrost (Bucky Barnes/Loki). They are the two ships that I write the most, read the most, and seek out fanart for the most.

15) What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

Probably The Flame. It's a fic that starts out ThunderFrost (not related; Asgardian Prince Thor semi-rescues an imprisoned Jotun Prince Loki) but eventually ends up FrostIron. It's the only fic I've ever written that features Loki with both male and female biology. I have a few chapters done but I haven't worked on it in years.

16) What are your writing strengths?

I like to think I write realistic relationships. And I think my dialogue is also realistic and easy to grasp. And I put a lot of humor in between all the angst and hurt.

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

I think I get too detailed with background. I just reread my Picture Perfect series (which I do like once a year), and there are literal paragraphs of background that in Google Docs is like pages and pages. But I want to make sure people understand my characters! LOL

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I'm a big fan of it. I featured a lot of Norwegian in the Picture Perfect series. And French. I think as long as it flows with the storytelling and it's not forced on the characters it can be really cool. It should be natural. I always leave a translation list at the end of the chapter or explain in-text what was said. Which I think most authors I've read do.

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

The Backstreet Boys. LOL. Don't judge. I started writing my own fics after discovering BSB fanfiction written by an author named Mistress Lynz. She wrote a lot of fics about bloodletting, but I really enjoyed the fics where the guys were hooking up with each other behind the scenes, LOL explains why I write mostly M/M now. 😂

20) What's your favorite fic you've written?

They're kind of like my babies so at different times different ones are my faves. But if I really had to pick one, I would say Stay With Me is my favorite. I got some of the most amazing comments on this story from people that found meaning and themes in the story that I didn't even realize I'd put in there. It was one of my first WinterFrost fics I'd posted and the response was more than I could have asked for.

Irondad and SteveTony Fic Recs!!

I decided to do a fic rec list bc i always see them and am So Grateful for them, esp rn bc everybody’s quarantined so what else is there to do but read fanfic. these are some of my favorite fics/some of the fics I read recently and just have open in safari rn. they’re mostly angst or whump ngl bc that’s my favorite but,,,, enjoy!

Summary: Peter startles awake when someone shakes him. “Sorry, honey,” May says. Peter blinks a couple times and she comes into focus, her hair pulled back from her face. She’s trying not to look a certain way, but he can see it in her eyes anyway. She clears her throat, keeps talking. “But it’s…” She glances away, wets her lips. “You gotta get ready.” He remembers what day it is, and his heart beats like a drum at someone’s execution. But he tries to put on a mask, make it all seem normal. It’s everything but, despite the fact that he’s been dealing with reaping day since he was born, between himself, Ben and May. That fear that one of them could be taken away. Sent to surefire slaughter. But now Ben is gone, taken despite never having his name drawn from a bowl, and May’s finally safe. Now Peter’s name is in there alone. The last Parker sitting on the chopping block. He doesn’t know how to be. He doesn’t know what normal is, when the Hunger Games are looming on the horizon.

Summary: “Please.” He means to say it loudly, with confidence, but it comes out as nothing more than a raspy whisper. His ears are ringing painfully, and his head feels like it’s going to explode. It hurts and hurts and hurts. “M-May,” Peter cries out to no one, feeling like a child. “Tony. Please, ‘m so tired.” He inhales and chokes on his tears. He can’t tell if it’s his imagination or not, but he’s pretty sure he hears a laugh. In which Peter gets kidnapped, and that's not even the worst part. The worst part is he's not allowed to sleep.

But she had told him that Skip was nice. She always seems to be smiling and happy whenever Skip comes to stay. It didn’t filter his concern. So when he goes college, he demands that Peter keeps an eye on him. Peter liked Skip. Until he didn’t. However, he will do anything to keep his brother and sister safe.

Unfortunately for them, Tony Stark's latest invention has been stolen and recovering it causes tension to reappear. Meanwhile, in Queens, Peter Parker has two main priorities on his plate — complete his midterm finals, and track down a fishbowl wearing criminal that may or may not lead him right into the hands of the Avengers. Somehow between all of this, Spider-man's identity is revealed to the Avengers, Steve and Tony's friendship may permanently be damaged due to continued hidden secrets, and Happy struggles to buy a youth-sized casket for Peter's funeral. Things were a lot easier when they were fighting over Bucky Barnes. (Or: The Avengers welcome Peter into their crazy superhero family and will do anything to protect him.) Shameless Peter whump and Protective Tony Stark.

Or when he turns on the news while doing homework and sees reports of a plane crash. Whats some of your fav tropes (Not just tropes in st but in general)

oh man...firstly “enemies” (however you define that but basically they do not get along at all) to lovers bc listen it’s all about the anger and the miscommunication and the hurt and the healing and the slow burn toward genuine affection and realizing that if the situation had been different maybe things could have happened sooner but things aren’t different they just are and you make the most of a second chance to try again and fall in love.

I also like the share one bed trope, and the case fic tropes (which I think falls in line sort of with marvel fandom where I situate most of where my fave tropes come from) . I of course loveeee superhero au tropes—as in everyone has powers and then has to defeat a bad guy—and I enjoy a good ol hp au trope and again with enemies to friends/lovers bc gryffindor and slytherin u feel me. i like role reversal in terms of who is pining first or the most ie in canon Will is pining but mike is pining either for longer or even harder once he realizes or how in canon draco is pining but in the trope harry is pining first u know . this is marvel specific but the good old 2012 avengers in stark tower trope!! clint in the vents for no fuckin reason and loki in thor’s room/floor for also no reason. love me that good found family avengers the mcu never gave us.

I also enjoy the “surname to given name to nicknane” trope , I talked about this on my main a couple years back but ie loki going from stark to anthony to tony which denotes closeness and bonding and affection. i love it...I am a SUCKER for it!! lastly I’ll add that I really like fluff but my favorite angst trope is simple miscommunication. everything can go so wrong with a misheard statement or a message that never got delivered on time. misreading someone’s stance or gaze turns everything to shit...godly trope there. and I don’t mean oblivious!chararacter (while that’s cute and all) I mean, deadass just wrong signals everywhere and the pain that comes from guilt and misdirection and trying to fix what can’t be seen as broken.

The Works:

1. Which is the imagine you’re most proud of?

Roommate - [Bucky x Reader] It’s the second most successful Bucky fic I have and I feel so proud of how fluid this fic is. It was so easy to write for me, I was truly inspired by Bucky’s look on Civil War <3

Princess - [Bucky x Reader] This is my most sucessful Bucky fic and people seem to love annoying, piece of shit Bucky. And I love me that Bucky too. This was super easy to write as well because I was hella inspired by that audio compilation of Seb talking.

Queen of Mischief - [Loki x Reader] This was the second fic I ever wrote to this blog. And it gained popularity very quickly. It’s my precious little baby and I love it sm.

2. Which is your least favourite?

One Night - [Bucky x Reader] I think the smut could have been better in that one.

3. If you were to recommend one to read to your mum/mom?

Clean - [Bucky x Reader] Because this whole fic was inspired by what she told me one day. I was gushing over him like crazy after Civil War and she told me she didn’t like him because his hair looked dirty. And the idea sparked in my head immediately. I started writing the fic as soon as we got home that day lol

4. Which one would you consider re-writing?

One Night - Like I said, the smut could have been a whole lot better.

5. Biggest regret in an imagine?

I really don’t have one. Like I don’t regret writing any of the stories I’ve written so far. Not even One Night. It can be improved, but I don’t regret writing it.

6. Biggest success with an imagine?

Queen of Mischief [Loki x Reader] and Princess [Bucky x Reader]. Both smut lol

7. Your imagine with the most notes?

Queen of Mischief

8. Your imagine with the least notes?

Not Your Fault - [Sam Winchester x Reader] I guess I don’t have many followers who watch Supernatural lol

9. What do you think makes a good imagine? Tips?

Enjoy it. Enjoy writing whatever idea comes to your mind. Don’t try to fit the mold or appease people. Many writers here (myself included) take requests, and that’s wonderful, but don’t feel obligated to write requests that you’re not comfortable with. Don’t force yourself to write if you dont feel like it. If you started doing this for the fun and because you loved doing it, then don’t turn it into a task just because you’ve become popular and people want more and more from you. It’s okay to take a break sometimes even from the things we love. Write whatever you want. Even if you’ve seen the same idea all over tumblr. Nobody writes the same, and your version of the same idea will never be like the other authors’. Just...enjoy yourself <3

10. When’s the next update on your works?

I have a lot of wips sitting on my drafts since 2016 (i’m ashamed of myself smdh). But as of right now, I started editing a quite short Michael B Jordan one shot based on a dream I had of him. That should be up very soon. And I want to get the requests I’ve gotten done before moving onto the original ideas I’ve started writing

11. Number of followers before you started writing and after?

I really don’t know lol. But my fanfiction blog @thiddlestoffiction gained 1,000+ followers rather quickly soon after I created it, though I already had lovely followers on this blog who also read my work, so that helped :)

1. Which character do you love writing for?

Bucky Barnes and Loki is what I’ve written the most. But here’s a list of people and characters I also write and take requests of :) (it might change some time)

2. Which character do you dislike writing for?

I wouldn’t say dislike, I’d say I’m not very familiar and comfortable with the character to write them well. And well, the rest of the characters that aren’t on the list above (except for Steve Rogers. I’d be so down to start writing about him too. I need to update that list)

3. What’s your favorite AU to write for?

There was this meme kinda thing on tumblr about how a lot writers still wrote as if all the characters lived in the Stark Tower and got along pretty damn well, and well, that’s my favorite AU to write lol

4. What’s your least favorite AU to write for?

I’ve never really written AUs, but I’d love to give it a shot sometime. Maybe start with something cliché, like the coffee shop or the bakery and stuff. Who knows.

5. What do you hope never gets requested?

Incest, underage smut, rape

6. What do you wish was requested more?

Literally anything else apart from the above.

7. Thoughts on writing Smut/POC/Curvy/MxM/FxF?

Amazing!!! Listen, I think my specialty is smut lol, and if it isn’t I still love to write it. I’d love to write some POC/Curvy fic because I’m both those things and thinking of moaning in Spanish while Bucky is at it is a real turn on. I’ve never written Mxm or FxF (though I started writing one female!reader x Natasha), but I’d love to give it a try at both.

8. Which account is your biggest inspiration in writing?

My main source of inspiration, the one account whose filthy smut made me want to write Roommate was @fvckingavengers. Lau just has a fucking gift for smut. I’d spend hours reading her smut lol. And then I found some pretty good writers who also inspired me along the way to keep on writing. @callingmrsbarnes, @lenavonschweetz, @actuallyasgardian (Red was her first smut ever and it was the fucking best jesus! There’s also a part 2) @after-avenging-hours (her series are THE fucking best), @buckystories, @buckfics (Jod has a gift for angst. And it saddens me that she hasn’t gotten back to writing because she had really original series), @sugardaddytonystark (her smut is fucking insaneeeeeeeeee!!! I want to marry her and her smut y’all)

And pretty much all of the other writers whose work I’ve reblogged and fangirled over bc they’re all pretty damn rad. So go to this tag on my blog and check them all out because damn!

9.How long have you been an imagine writer for?

Since 2012. And it all started when The Avengers came out and I felt the urgent need to write some Loki smut.

10. Any upcoming secret works?

That Michael B Jordan one shot, and some Bucky requests I received ages ago.
