AS SAID BY ANDERS *  assorted dialogue from dragon age: II
i think something's moving!
i hear it's quite popular.
that's not strictly accurate.
i'm always happy to see your face... but it seems particularly lovely right now.
we've hardly met and i feel like i know you. am i making you uncomfortable?
you do have an opinion on mages, don't you?
can i ask you something, [name]?
i think we're better off focusing on the task at hand.
i shouldn't be seen here.
i've tried not to shout it from the rooftops.
i know it isn't my place to criticize, but...
oh, i'm sure i can get more creative.
a year ago, maybe we could have had something.
that's not what i was going to ask.
i need your help again. can we speak privately?
i'm your worst nightmare!
you're not nearly as selfish as you pretend.
i'm right here, you know. should i stick my fingers in my ears until you're done?
they never learn, do they?
not all mages are weak.
go ahead. say it.
you specifically don't mention me.
why would you shy away from loving someone just because they're like you?
i don't know how you live the way you do, blithely ignoring the consequences of your actions.
i'd like to attend the funeral.
anyway, you wanted to talk to me?
i can't believe you're still not taking sides.
i would drown us in blood to keep you safe.
i keep thinking i know you from somewhere.
we have important things to do. why do they insist on interrupting?
i don't think they're here to chat!
you take a grave risk in trusting me.
it's not a good feeling, you know.
i don't know whether to cherish every moment i am with you, or fear for you to have me there.
how can you have so much faith? does nothing bother you?
it doesn't matter. nobody deserves that.
you've messed with the wrong mage!
everyone, over here!
some things are worse than death.
want to see what's under these robes?
this is so not working!
so you're telling me you have no opinion on the matter?
where did you learn your magic?
do you ever have any regrets?
it was meant well. i don't know if that's enough to forgive me.
you don't like me, [name]?
my bruises have bruises!
i think i broke every bone in my body.
i'm not sure how much more of this i can take.
no! don't be dead! please!
any suggestions?
are you sure you want to encourage me? i might be about to confess my undying love.
you didn't have anything to do with this?
my face is the least of my concerns right now.
you're giving me that look again.
i'm a mage, not a miracle worker.
if someone here tries to hire me again, i'm leaving.
don't mind me. i'm just going to hide my face for a while.
it is still a thrill to turn and see you beside me.
your support has meant the world to me.
sometimes i miss being that selfish.
what makes this relic of yours so valuable?
you've got a real chip on your shoulder, you know?
i just figured some of them would say no. for aesthetic reasons, if nothing else.
i don't see how that's any of your business.
why don't you shout? i don't think everyone heard you.

Dragon Ball Super Manga Ch. 94-96
Tumblr media
We're still reading the Super Hero adaptation! It's not great!
Tumblr media
Things continue pretty much like they did in the movie, although it's a little awkward how Chapter 94 opens with Pan waiting to get picked up from school, just like she was in Chapter 91, because Toyotaro wanted to show Piccolo doing a "normal" kindergarten pickup as a prelude to the story. And that might have seemed like a good idea on paper. You know, contrast a routine encounter with the zany scene we got in the movie. The problem is that it undermines the zany scene when we finally get to it. The whole point is that a "normal" version isn't that interesting to see, which is why they didn't show Gohan cooking breakfast or Dr. Hedo brushing his teeth in the movie.
Anyway, you read chapter 91 and it feels like they skipped to the middle of the movie because Pan's waiting at kindergarten. Then you get to Chapter 94 and you see Pan waiting at kindergarten again and think the story is starting over. Or was it preschool? The manga version has a sign over the property that reads "kindergarten", but Pan's only three so I don't know. Piccolo knocked her into a bunch of rocks earlier in the day, and now he's taking her home with a layover at Red Ribbon HQ, so the point of all of this is that nothing is really ever "normal" with Dragon Ball.
Back to the manga, Toyotaro drags out this scene by having a cop take notice of the Red Ribbon aircraft, but he immediately decides it's okay once he finds out it's for Mr. Satan's granddaughter. This might be the same cop who helped Goku find Bulma's house for the first time in the original Red Ribbon Army Saga, but I'm not interested in looking it up.
So once again, Toyotaro seems determined to cram in new material to this story, but it's always designed to be as dull as possible, answering questions no one asked. Why didn't Piccolo get a ticket for the aircraft being parked on the street? For the zero people who were concerned about this, Toyotaro heroically includes a traffic cop whose sole purpose is to remind us that it doesn't actually matter.
Tumblr media
Chapter 94 continues up to the first leg of the Gohan/Gamma 1 fight. There's some changes to the fight choreography, but I'm not gonna do a side-by-side analysis or anything. It pretty much has to be different because of the medium involved. I'm pretty sure Gohan firing a Kamehameha is new, as is Gamma 1 shooting at him to counterattack. But I could be wrong.
Tumblr media
While Gohan powers up to his Ultimate/Mystic/Elder Kai Unlock form, Krillin's family is just getting out of the movie theater where they watched Cleangod 2. I mentioned this scene before, but now that we're here, this is Teen Marron's only appearance in Dragon Ball Super, and here's the big pitch for the character: She's a huge fan of Cleangod. Just like Goten! And Trunks. And... Dr. Hedo. I'm not impressed.
Krillin senses Gohan fighting, then he gets a call from Police HQ.
Tumblr media
For some reason, Krillin runs off and hides while he takes the call? Are people not supposed to know he's a cop? Everyone keeps staring at him the whole time, so if he's trying to keep this a secret, he's doing a lousy job of it. Also, when 18 asks him who he's talking to, she doesn't seem to believe his answer, so she insists on tagging along with him. Does... 18 not know Krillin's a cop? What is going on here?
The dumbest part of all of this is that Nutz is calling Krillin to tell him about the battle at the Red Ribbon Army base. Remember how she had Krillin follow Magenta and Hedo in Chapter 91? Because they knew Magenta had a secret base but they didn't know where it was? And then Krillin lost them before he could find it?
Okay, so apparently the police had suspected that it was in that crater lake, camouflaged by a hologram. In fact, they've suspected this for so long that they've been monitoring the lake with cameras, and when Gohan went ultimate he disrupted the hologram and revealed the base. Now they want Krillin to reconnoiter the area before they send in a bunch of guys.
This is just really dumb. I mean, if the police suspected the base was inside the lake, why didn't they just send Krillin to check it out in the first place? He could have gone there months ago, and if it was just a lake, the worst thing that would have happened is he'd get wet. But if it was a secret mercenary base, he could have just snuck in and out as easily as Piccolo did in this story. It would have been even easier, since Krillin's less conspicuous than Piccolo, and the Red Ribbon wouldn't have had Hedo's androids for support. Hell, Krillin could have taken out the entire base by himself, and all they had to do was send him to the lake that they were already monitoring.
Also, why is it the West City Police Department's job to bust the Red Ribbon Army? Isn't that a job for the Royal Military? None of this makes any sense. I mean, the purpose is to add more Krillin content to the story, but it's so forced that it becomes nonsensical. The movie makes so much more sense without the police involved at all. Again, it's another question that no one asked. "Why didn't the police find the Red Ribbon Army's hidden base?" Because it's a hidden base, that's why not!
Toyotaro seems almost desperate to give these fictional cops a chance to save face. Well they were trying very hard to locate the base, but they just couldn't find it before Piccolo did. Except his depiction of their efforts just makes them look worse. Sergeant Nutz seems to know everything about the Red Ribbon Army. She knew Magenta was secretly rebuilding it, she knew he was planning to contact Dr. Hedo, and when he would do it. She was even pretty sure where the Red Ribbon base was. Yet despite all this inside information, she still couldn't figure out how to respond to it.
All of this makes it look like a set up to explain Krillin showing up at the end of the movie, except, no, that's not what happens. He shows up at the end because Bulma calls him and tells him what's happening. Toyotaro saw the movie and thought: "No! That's not enough! We need three reasons for Krillin to go to the lake!"
1. He senses Gohan's ki from the battle. 2. Sgt. Nutz calls him and tells him to go check out the base. 3. Bulma calls him and tells him Piccolo is at the base.
Is that enough? Does Krillin have sufficient motivation to go yet? I'm not sure, let's throw in some more reasons.
4. Krillin is visited by the ghost of the pirates from that underwater cave. The ghost tells him that the Red Ribbon stole his treasure and hid it in the lake, so he pleads with Krillin to recover it so the pirates can rest in peace. 5. Marron really wants to check out the crater lake, becuase Cleangod 2 had a scene that was filmed there. 6. Vegeta briefly pops in using his manga-only Instant Transmission. He asks Krillin to check on a three-layer cake he ordered from the bakery, but Krillin mishears him and thinks he said "crater lake". 7. The Supreme Kai of Time deputizes Krillin into the Time Patrol and informs him of a temporal anomaly at the crater lake. 8. Krillin was going there anyway because it's on his way home.
Tumblr media
Back to the fight, not much is different, although there's a brief moment where Piccolo coaches Gohan before they resume fighting their respective opponents. This is kind of redundant, because they both already understood they were fighting androids, and they're already in their strongest forms (as far as they know), so Piccolo is just stating the obvious here. At least he isn't telepathically summoning Krillin to get his butt over here. Piccolo actually trusts the plot of this movie.
Tumblr media
The Gammas aren't quite as powerful in this version, so 2 has to give a little assist to 1, then they consider double-teaming Piccolo to improve their chances. This doesn't last long, though, since it's not like Gohan was just going to stand there and let Piccolo get beat down.
Tumblr media
At Capsule Corp, Bulma starts assembling a squad to help Piccolo, and is surprised to learn that Trunks already knows about Dr. Hedo. She asks him why he never mentioned any of this before, and finally, finally, Toyotaro has come up with a question someone might have actually asked. Why didn't Trunks tell Bulma about all of this? Because he would have gotten in trouble for playing superhero, and also because Bulma wouldn't have taken his story seriously even if he had said anything.
So Bulma admits that she goofed, but now she ungrounds Trunks (and Goten, since he just showed up), and she wants them to join Piccolo in battle.
Tumblr media
But she immediately regrets it, because Goten and Trunks can't pinpoint Piccolo's location with their ki senses. And this is Big Goten in a nutshell. The boys are eager to get in on the action, but they lack the skill and focus to be effective. They're basically the opposite of what Gohan was in his childhood. Gohan was constantly caught between adventure and study, and he ended up excelling in both things. But Goten and Trunks really don't get pushed hard in either direction. They don't have much motivation to study, and they're not very good at adventure stuff either. Bulma's giving them a chance to be heroes and they're blowing it.
Anyway, she calls Piccolo, and when he doesn't answer, she calls Krillin, which is the canonical reason they all show up together at the end of the story.
Tumblr media
Oh, and here's an awesome shot of Cell Max. I can't stress this enough: The art in this thing is tremendous, but the writing is just dull as can be. Everything's either a rerun or a pointless filler scene.
Tumblr media
When Cell Max crawls out to fight all the good guys, Goten and Trunks offer to give Piccolo and Gohan a breather, and they switch to their Saiyaman X-1 and X-2 suits. Pan's into it, but everyone else find it dumb. I guess Marron should have come along and maybe she'd enjoy this...

Surely, We Can Make Miracles Chapter 19
Previous Chapter
Shylock: …nn… … …You are…?
Hwylryn: Hwylryn.
Shylock: …Are you a wizard…?
Hwylryn: Hehe… What do you think?
Lennox?: Hwylryn.
Hwylryn: Balthazar.
Shylock: …
Lennox?: Someone has destroyed the mermaids' jail. Go figure out what happened.
Hwylryn: Don't wanna.
Lennox?: You can't "not wanna".
Hwylryn: Balthazar. I've gotten rid of Gwawlyn's enemies.
Lennox?: The Northern twins, yes?
Hwylryn: Yep. Aren't I great?
Lennox?: Yes, if you actually took them down. I've yet to see their stones.
Hwylryn: They'll die. You know how effective dragon venom is. … I wonder if Gwawlyn would be happy with this. He liked those twins. They were strong, for wizards. They had the same face despite there being two of them, just like us, and that was fun…
Lennox?: Uh-huh, is that right. Hurry up and get moving. Kukuku… I see you've awoken, Shylock.
Hwylryn: Are you listening, Balthazar?
Shylock: Why not listen to what he has to say?
Lennox?: I'll listen later. Kukuku… I see you've awoken, Shylock.
Shylock: You're just trying to start the conversation over?
Hwylryn: Balthazar. I got rid of Gwawlyn's enemies, you know?
Lennox?: And so what?! I never even met that dragon in the first place.
Hwylryn: But… You remind me of him. You're violent, short-tempered, rude…
Lennox?: Hwylryn. You don't need to elaborate.
Hwylryn: Haha… Or maybe it's the other way around. Maybe I'm the one you resemble instead. Drifting down to the West because we couldn't keep living in the North.
Lennox?: … Shylock.
Shylock: Yes?
Lennox?: Wait for a while.
Shylock: Please, take your time.
Lennox?: …Hwylryn, what's wrong. What are you getting so sentimental about?
Hwylryn: A whole lot of things happened all at once. I thought I was going to encounter my most bitter foes, but instead I made a friend.
Lennox?: A friend?
Hwylryn: Yep. Tomorrow, we're going to line up early at that store together. We're going to get cake together…
Lennox?: You're going to get cake? At a time like this…?
Hwylryn: We're going to get torta di cocco. I gave you some too, didn't I?
Lennox?: You did, yes…
Hwylryn: Wasn't it good?
Lennox?: I guess.
Hwylryn: I'm going to be lining up with Akira tomorrow to get more.
Shylock: Akira…?
Hwylryn: You know them?
Shylock: Do you perhaps mean the Sage?
Hwylryn: That's right, they did say something about being the Sage. I made friends with Akira.
Shylock: So you're a friend of the Sage… …Could you tell me what your relationship with Balthazar is?
Lennox?: That doesn't concern you.
Hwylryn: We're old friends. Well, I think we're friends…
Lennox?: Cease this useless prattle!
Hwylryn: …I won't talk about that. I just got intrigued by him, so I decided to help him out. Balthazar told me about you, Shylock. Back before Adams Island sank.
Shylock: … Thank you, Hwylryn.
Hwylryn: You're very welcome.
Shylock: …Balthazar.
Lennox?: …What.
Shylock: Did you not turn to stone when Adams Island sank?
Lennox?: …
Shylock: How did you survive? What have you been doing all this time? Were you lurking here in the ocean depths this whole time?
Lennox?: …That doesn't concern you.
Shylock: This is how you've been planning on sweeping me off my feet?
Hwylryn: He just went and did that without talking to me about it first. He doesn't really care about my…
Lennox?: Silence, Hwylryn!
Hwylryn: … Whatever.
Lennox?: Wait! I didn't mean to offend you! There's still something I need you to do! Hwylryn…! …He's gone… What was he going to say I don't care about?
Shylock: Well, you certainly aren't considering his feelings, for one.
Lennox?: Hmph… And what do you think you know about him? You haven't even realized what he truly is.
Shylock: I know more about him than you do, at least.
Lennox?: You know what he is?
Shylock: I couldn't care less about that. I'm talking about his heart.
Lennox?: His heart?
Shylock: He told you that he's taken down his brother's foes, and he told you that you resemble that same brother. He thinks of you as a stand-in for his brother, Balthazar. That was why he wanted you to say something about how he'd taken down his enemies.
Lennox?: Did you read his mind?
Shylock: I don't need to do something like that to know what he wants.
Lennox?: Have you read my mind as well?
Shylock: Oh, yes.
Lennox?: …
Shylock: …
Lennox?: Then tell me. Tell me what I'm thinking about right now.
Shylock: I will not.
Lennox?: Why not? Do you have no confidence?
Shylock: Balthazar. In the North those who are strong are victorious, while those who are weak are not, yes? But that's not how it works in the West. The West is a country of desires. The one who desires is the one who loses. And you desire me. You want me to surrender myself to you, to be helpless before you, but the very moment you began to want me… Was the moment that you lost. After all, whether I give you what you want or not is all up to me.
Lennox?: … And yet I could turn you to stone here and now. I can make you experience enough fear and pain you'll beg me to turn you to stone! Do you want that, Shylock?
Shylock: Feel free to give me whatever you like. Though I imagine it'll bore me to sleep.
Lennox?: You're bluffing…
Shylock: Oh, my. This is neither a bluff nor an act. You see, I've found my heart set aflame recently.
Lennox?: …tsk. <Mare Praeda>!
✦✧☾✧✦
Mitile: Nero! The torta di cocco shopkeeper is coming here soon! He said he'll make torta di cocco for us with the castle kitchen!
Nero: That's great to hear! I'll have t' go see him later.
Riquet: Nero. Claudia wants to talk to you.
Claudia: I'm so sorry. No matter what I say, Dianne refuses to leave her office… You have something very important to ask of her, and yet she's not conducting herself the way a lord should. Please, let me apologize on her behalf. Is there anything that I could do to help you instead?
Nero: Well, I guess y'can talk with me so we can try to get the people 'round the castle to chill out a little. Why's the new lord refusin' to come out of her room? An' why's she hidin' stuff from us, an' why's she trashin' the castle magitech, an' what's up with her edict with the wizards' bazaar…
Claudia: The reason she won't come out of her office is because she doesn't know what to do. She doesn't know how to deal with what's happening, but once she steps foot out of that room, she'll be expected to deal with it. And so, she's blocked herself inside.
Mitile: But why? If she doesn't know what to do, she should try talking to people to figure it out…
Riquet: Are the other people in the castle treating her coldly?
Claudia: Oh, certainly not. They've all been working here since she was little.
Nero: Right, one of 'em said somethin'. Somethin' about Dianne bein' a crybaby…
Claudia: Dianne's always been a darling little angel ever since she was a child. Everyone adored her. And she had a tendency to burst into tears when faced with just about anything. She'd cry at hearing compassionate stories, when thinking about her studies, or even halfway through introducing herself. Once, when the previous King's cousin, Lord Antonio, visited us here, she burst into tears in the middle of her introduction. Everyone around her went white as a sheet. They were dead certain he was going ask if she'd never learned any discipline, or if no one's ever scolded her before. But Lord Antonio simply said, "What a darling girl she is," and wiped her tears… And he forgave her, just like that.
Nero: That ol' man's got some good in him, huh.
Claudia: Huh?
Nero: Oh, yeah, I know the guy too.
Claudia: Ah, I see. My apologies for speaking so self-centeredly…
Nero: Nah, don't worry about it. Keep talkin'.
Mitile: (I can't believe Nero's calling someone related to the old king "that ol' man"…)
Claudia: That event went from being just a funny story to tell at gatherings all the way to being something to boast about. After all, someone as illustrious as Lord Antonio himself had pardoned our youngest child's adorable tears. My sister wasn't the only one who was so happy about it that she went spreading the story everywhere she went. But it wasn't an incident Dianne herself was proud of. She did her very best to not cry. She didn't want to be called a crybaby anymore.
Mitile: I really understand how she felt…
Riquet: Did you used to be a crybaby too, Mitile?
Mitile: I… I wouldn't say I was that bad. Even though the grown-ups just smiled about it and didn't have any bad intentions behind what they said about me, it was still embarrassing.
Nero: Yeah, I've been there too…
Riquet: You have, Nero?
Nero: Yeah, well… No one had a lick of common sense or basic decency where I used t' be.
Mitile: What did they say?
Nero: I ain't repeatin' that in front of kids.
Claudia: Could you whisper it to me?
Nero: I definitely ain't sayin' it in front of a noblelady!
Claudia: Oh my, how terribly shy you are. Now then, where were we?
Riquet: We were talking about how Crybaby Dianne hated being called that.
Claudia: Ah, yes. Dianne had support during all this from my father--her grandfather--Lord Dionis, a man famous for his military exploits here in the West. He taught her swordsmanship, and he patiently showed her what a brave, wonderful human she could be. Thanks to his guidance, she became the gallant swordsman you see now. She barely resembles who she used to be. But… This is no longer an era where mastery of the sword can carry her; it's an era of magical technology. Someone said that to Dianne and my father. Even a fresh-faced rookie soldier could defeat the famous Commander Dionis with magical technology on their side.
Nero: Ahh… That musta been hard for the lil' missy to hear.
Mitile: (Now he's calling the local lord, Lady Dianne, "the lil' missy"…)
Riquet: But isn't magical technology very widespread in this country?
Nero: Not everyone feels the same about these kinds of things. 'Specially in the lil' miss lord's case, when it's got to do with what saved her heart, her grandpa's martial arts… It's no wonder she ended up feelin' so aggressive about magitech.
Claudia: That's right… Dianne began to hate even just the very sight of magical technology after that. She was so hostile towards it that she began putting her support behind the wizards without properly getting to know them first…
Riquet: So that's what happened. I'd heard that she was very friendly towards wizards, so I'd been looking forward to meeting her. But she didn't seem very friendly when I talked to her.
Claudia: I'm so sorry she let you down like that… She really doesn't have any prejudices against wizards, I assure you. But that description of her isn't an apt one. Still, to pretend to want to be friends despite having no real intention of it…is a terribly lonely thing.
Mitile: How can we get along better with Lady Dianne…? I thought I didn't really like her very much, even though I didn't know much about her until just now… But, after listening to what you've said about her…I don't think she's someone I can hate. I completely understand her frustration with being called a crybaby and with having her grandfather mocked like that. And the people in the castle and the island residents are the same too, aren't they? I do think that throwing out a big magical technology installation and making things hard for the head chef is going a little too far, but… If she could be honest with the people around her about what's making her miserable, or about what she needs help with…
Nero: Yeah, that ain't happenin'.
Mitile: Why not…?
Nero: 'Cause if she talks about what's hurtin' her or says she needs help, she's gonna go back to bein' Crybaby Dianne. And if that happens, she'll be lettin' everyone down. That's what she's thinkin, at least. Did I get that right, ma'am?
Claudia: Yes… I'm sure that's it.
Nero: No matter how people laughed at her or how bad it hurt, she worked as hard as her gramps did at the sword, and used it to change who she was. But y'can't heal wounds that reach all the way down to the soul so easily.
Riquet: …Like the wounds received from <the Great Calamity>?
Nero: Exactly. Mitile's completely right, is the thing. She should let herself get helped out if she's strugglin'. As long as there's people around her that are willin' to help, that is.
Mitile: …Nero…
Nero: But if they see how pathetic she really is, even just once, they'll be disappointed in her… If she says she can't do it alone, they'll say she's incompetent and look down on her. That's what she's been tryin' to avoid, but all she did was trap herself between a rock and a hard place. Even when she's surrounded by people, if she can't trust 'em, it's the same as havin' no one around at all.
Riquet: …
Nero: Even though she wants help so bad she could just explode. But she's so scared of the idea that if she actually says that to anyone, they're gonna laugh at her, mock her, and tell her it's all her fault anyways that she's not gonna say a thing about it.
Riquet: …Saying that you want help is… Something I did not realize could be so difficult for someone. (But I think Oz, Prince Arthur, and Cain are all like that, too…) (If that's true, then the times Oz has spoken with me are all very precious occasions…) (It's not something so simple that everyone can do it…) (It's something that's only possible because a special kind of trust has been formed…)
Nero: There's a lot of people like that. Hell, even I'm not immune to not wantin' to say it…
Mitile: I… I'd want you to ask me for help, Nero. There probably isn't anything I can do for you, but… I won't laugh at you or criticize you for it.
Nero: Thanks. I'm pretty fond of that part of all of you Southerners. It's the kinda thing that can save a guy…
Riquet: Me, too… I won't get upset with you.
Nero: Haha. Don't start tellin' lies, Riquet.
Riquet: It's not a lie! As long as I know the circumstances, I won't get upset with you. I don't want to hurt you by getting mad at you, Nero.
Nero: Hey, it's fine t'get mad. There are times where it's needed, even. Besides, ain't forgivin' people even when you're mad at 'em one of your specialties?
Riquet: I…suppose so…
Nero: Just forgive me as much as you can when that day comes, alright? Anyways… More than anythin', I need to go talk with her Lordship.
Riquet: You're planning on being the one who talks to her?
Nero: I mean… Well… Like… Someone's gotta do it… Even though I think I'd be pretty crap at it… But, well, I think I know what she's goin' through right now. She doesn't know what to do, but she does desperately want someone to help her out. Talkin' about it with one of her relatives or some brat's just gonna make her want to disappear even worse. So I figure I'll be good enough here… …I figure, but…my confidence is slippin' away… Riquet, how about you go instead?
Riquet: You need to make good on what you said you would, Nero. I think you're exactly right about both her and yourself.
Mitile: I'm sure your words will echo in her heart! You've got this!
Claudia: I think so as well! You can do this, Nero!
Nero: Thanks for cheerin' me on, guys… D'ya think y' could take me to her office, ma'am?

We split into two groups. The ones headed towards Shylock and Balthazar were… Murr, Rustica, and Chloe, as well as Arthur, Cain, and Rutile. And the ones who were going to be hunting for the cintamani stone were me, Oz, Faust, Shino, and Heathcliff.
Faust: It's highly likely that Lennox is going to be with Balthazar. If you see him…
Rutile: Don't worry, Faust. We won't hurt him.
Faust: Thank you.
Faust was obviously worried about Lennox. But if he joined the Western wizards in saving Shylock… That'd mean leaving the search for the cintamani stone on the shoulders of the younger wizards. And that worried him as well. But he had comrades he could rely on now. Oz was probably feeling something similar, since he was having to separate from Arthur.
Oz: …Are you sure you are prepared?
Arthur: You don't need to worry about us. We're setting out fully prepared to do what we need to do.
Murr: Even if you reel in the sea dragon, it's not like you can fight, Oz. On the other hand, their side would get a special bonus if that happens.
Chloe: A special bonus?
Murr: A powerful wizard's flesh and blood can be used as a medium to perform powerful magic. I don't think even Mithra could win against a sea dragon that's gotten a taste of Oz, if you catch my drift.
Arthur: Lord Oz, when your group locates the cintamani stone, please return to shore and take it to Lord Snow. Faust, it'd be a big help if you could join back up with us, though.
Faust: Got it. I know I'm starting to repeat myself, but please take care of Lennox.
Cain: Lennox is one of our precious comrades. We're not gonna hurt a hair on his head before we take care of Balthazar.
Oz: If both Shylock and Lennox are undamaged… Pursuing a battle against Balthazar and the dragon will be pointless.
Shino: Why.
Oz: For when the day breaks, I shall lay them low myself.
I bit my lip. Did that mean he was going to kill Hwylryn? My heart pounding, I decided to make my intentions clear to everyone one more time.
Akira: Before that happens, I'm going to try to negotiate with Hwylryn.
Faust: Right. Hopefully you'll find the dragon before you find Balthazar.
Murr: But if those negotiations go belly-up and Oz gets eaten, we'll have the single worst-case scenario on our hands. I didn't wanna say it in front of Arthur, but you need to be ready for that eventuality, Faust.
I saw Faust go a little green around the gills at that. He glanced away, hiding his expression. Arthur looked anxious, and Oz said nothing.
Murr: Soooo, time to get this show on the road!
Arthur: Master Sage! We'll definitely return with Shylock and Lennox in hand.
Akira: Yeah! Everyone, be careful!
Cain: You too, Akira! Oz! Be sure you look after them!
Oz: Yes.
And then we parted from one another, following the mermaids' guidance on two separate paths.
✦✧☾✧✦
Mermaid: …! …!
Cain: Looks like it's that way. The moonlight doesn't reach this deep, so I've kind of lost my sense of direction, but I think that's northwest… Is that where Adams Island used to be?
Murr: Yep, you got it! Your military command expertise is shining through!
Arthur: The sunken Adams Island… I never thought I'd see it.
Rutile: I wonder if Leno's there…
Arthur: The mermaids who'd been locked up claim to have seen Balthazar and Shylock there.
Rutile: I hope Leno is okay… Shylock, too……hm? Huh…? When did Chloe and Rustica get so far away…
Cain: Ack, sorry! I got too caught up in following the mermaids… I'll go back to help them right now!
Chloe: We're fiiiine! We can catch up! This way, Rustica. Good job, good job!
Rustica: Why thank you, Chloe.
Chloe: …Hey, Rustica. What did Murr mean by what he said earlier? About something he didn't want to talk about in front of Arthur, but that Faust needed to be ready for…
Rustica: Should it look like Lord Oz is going to turn to stone and thus fall into the dragon's hands, Faust should turn him to stone first so that we may partake of his strength ourselves. I believe that is what he meant.
Chloe: Wh…what…?! There's no way that's going to happen, right?!
Rustica: It won't. They were simply talking about what the proper way to go about things based on addition and subtraction would be. Simple arithmetic.
Chloe: Right… Faust wouldn't do something like that…
✦✧☾✧✦
Shino: (…It doesn't seem like very many people got what Murr was talking about.) (Faust can't attack Oz. His head's too full of Lennox for anything else right now…) (He can't even conceive of sacrificing someone else for his own gain in the first place.) (But I can.) (Sorry Oz, sorry Arthur, but if it's to protect Heath…) (I'll kill Oz before the dragon can if the Sage's negotiations fall through.) (…My hands are already dirty.) (There's no mission I'm not willing to carry out.)
Vespa: …! …!
Shino: …What is it.
Heathcliff: Shino! You started slowing down. Are you okay?
Shino: Sorry. I was spacing out.
Heathcliff: You can't go spacing out at a time like this.
Faust: Are you running low on magic?
Shino: I'm fine.
Akira: But you won't be able to breathe if you run out of magic…
Oz: Will you return to shore, Shino?
Shino: … There's no issue. Let's keep moving.

doip. / 5.24.23: the woodland manse
TIME FOR DOIP! it's been a few months so: welcome to dragon of icespire peak, the d&d campaign jorb is running with me, nyx v4shthestampede, and green bahamutgreen! starring the bullheaded dragonborn fighter Alidaar, the nameless halfling druid that's usually a binturong, and the new arrival (and walking disaster of a lizardfolk) hoping for treasure, Kepesk! together we're gonna fight a really angry dragon, but first there's a lot of problems in the world we need to tackle before we have any hope or surviving.
leo: [joins call] good news, i found my dice! jorb: [plays the anime "WOW!" sound on the soundboard]
Redesign Your Alidaar, We Know What We're Doing
LAST TIME, ON DRAGON OF ICESPIRE PEAK: Our heroes, having said goodbye to their friend Tobias, made their way to the Dragon Barrow. There, they met a new but unexpected ally: a lizardfolk by the name of Kepesk. The three braved the barrow together, and after some close calls, claimed the Dragonslayer sword within. Outside, they met a hobgoblin named Toblin Bloodsword, leading them through Neverwinter wood. oh fuck ive lost behind. WILL OUR HEROES BE ABLE TO CLEAR THE MANCE AND CLAIM THEIR REWARD? OR WILL THE CACOLYTES TAKE THEM BY STORM? FIND OUT………. TODAY!
i'm really good at what i do.
kepesk: wow it feels like we slept a month or two or something alidaar: more like four!
nyx: didn't we gaslight toblerone? […] leo: what's his actual name again, jorb: targor! leo, sobbing: WHY DID I THINK HIS NAME WAS TOBLIN?!
alidaar: i cartwheel over. nyx: what?? alidaar: i cartwheel over! nyx: well i was gonna ride on your shoulder or something, but i guess you're cartwheeling?? jorb: you heard the man! green: kepesk follows tripping over everything jorb: targor walks over doing a handstand or something. i dunno
good morning, falcon is here! also breakfast is here! let's goooo alidaar: good morning, motherfuckers! ..i dont say that part. OH NAMELESS HAS A NEW TOKEN, CUTE
Tumblr media
……..huh. nameless sure is red suddenly. And This Sure Is An Overnight Change, Huh
falcon: would you mind terribly if corwin and pell dined with us this morning? alidaar: sure, why not? kepesk: [NOISE]
I FORGOT WE DUPED THE SHIT OUT OF TARGOR. targor is now aware that nameless just Does That (become a man)
jorb: [describing dinner] there's a couple of fish as well. nyx: alive. jorb: NOT ALIVE
falcon gives us a map! nyx: i am looking, i m looking with my eyes, i put my eyes on it, leo: nameless puts his face on the map. jorb, concerned: ..make a perception check? nyx: i swear im normal. [rolls a 17] jorb: this is a nice parchment!
nameless throws the map to kepesk. kepesk uses it as a napkin and then realizes its a map. falcon: i suspect i'm going to have new stories to tell after this. alidaar: you don't know the half of it. kepesk: about who :D?
nyx: i desperately want to talk to targor and tell him we're not usually like this leo: but that would be a lie :D nyx: that would be a lie.
jorb: [attempting to figure out why we can't see zodiark's name] leo: i can edit the horse. nyx: you can edit the horse???
falcon: try not to die. alidaar: it'll be hard as hell to kill us, don't you worry. :D jorb: and with that, you guys head off! nyx: ……..where am i going? jorb: YOU GUYS HAVE A MAP.
oh it's spelled manse. woodland manse. nyx: [rolls a 22 on survival] jorb: [..] you make some updates to the map as you go. leo: your map sucks ass, we improved it nyx: i'm grimacing as i hold it because it's still a bit greasy
OH SHIT THE SENDING STONE IS GLOWING OMG TOBIAS !! RAT BOYYYYY awww he misses us ;w; (and is craving cheese.) jorb: do you want to respond? you have 25 words. nyx and leo: OH GOD WHY ARE YOU MAKING US DO MATH his message is 25 words exactly. this guy. nyx: my response is two words: stay safe. kepesk: why are you guys talking to a rock? alidaar: [deadpan] sometimes rocks are magic. kepesk:
Tumblr media
jorb: [..] you come across a clearing. nyx: why is there a boar in the bushes? green: is that a world of warcraft boar? jorb: yeah
Tumblr media
jorb: so, what will you do? nyx: does targor have anything to say about this? jorb: oh. right. targor should say things.
OH GOD THERE'S TWO OF THEM (PARTY MEMBERS THAT'RE GOLD-MOTIVATED) NOW
jorb: do you have the ability to move targor, by the way? leo: no. i was gonna send him to the moon to test nyx: send variable to the moon. jorb: okay, try it now leo: [launches targor across the map] YEET nyx: OH GOD
jorb: there is not another identical mansion. nyx: sad. jorb: sad! leo: sad! nyx: sad! jorb: sad!
I HAVE DIED. SADLY.
leo: are the boars doing anything? jorb: uh, no, they're just grazing in the pumpkin patch. nyx: are they eating the actual pumpkins, or the leaves, or..? jorb: do they eat pumpkins? probably the leaves. leo: [googling] do boars eat pumpkins..
Tumblr media
kepesk is leaving zodiark outside to graze on the pumpkins.
green: i can't believe i'm only asking this now and it's not my notes.. WHY did we come here??? (it's ok green i also didn't put that in my notes. anyway we're here to wipe out followers of talos and maybe get cool boots)
jorb: [describing a room] alidaar: i wanna get a look at those figures on the fireplace. jorb: it's weird- one of them looks like a binturong. one of them looks like YOU. and.. one of them looks like tobias. leo: WHAT? UM. OK . CREEPY MANSION HAS WEIRD WOODEN FIGURES OF THE ORIGINAL PARTY????? HOLY SHIT???
Tumblr media
leo: oh my god the tokens,,, jorb: yeah i tried to get an ai to make [the tokens] into wood, it.. leo: it looks like it melted alidaar. jorb: ..had mixed results EVERYONE IS FIALING SO BAD AT INVESTIGATING THE REST OF THE ROOM BECAUSE THEY'RE DISTRACTED BY THE WEIRD CARVINGS
kepesk: i don't care about art.
Tumblr media
jorb: -oh hey this is pretty neat actually
targor: what are you guys looking at? alidaar: hey targor, have you ever heard of wood? targor: targor: i'm.. familiar.
green: i feel like ive been so aggressive to him, i have no beef with targor. jorb: with TOBLIN, on the other hand,
leo: kepesk wants a carving of himself SO BAD jorb: they're not carvings, they're like.. 3d figures made of sticks. green: ohhh! that's even creepier. nyx: it's like that one movie. [pause] jorb: henry stickmin.
nyx: it looks like a pantry gone wrong. kepesk: is there ANYTHING of value in this place?! jorb: do you want to make an investigation check? leo: --all of my player instincts are yelling at me to start setting fire to this place. KEPESK NO DON'T EAT THE TOXIC SLUTCH leo: do we have cure poison on deck?? kepesk: do you guys want some? alidaar: [full-body recoils] nameless: [walks away] kepesk: ..i was just joking! :D ;;
courtyard has weird vines growing out of the well! thats probably an issue kepesk: i wonder if these vines would go well with food-sludge. nameless pokes the vines and they move. Hm! Bad! Time To Be Elsewhere
jorb: ..and you hear muffled talking. [dramatic music sting] leo: whoa, music change! jorb: the music didn't change, it just did that.
UH OH nyx alerted the guys on the floor above us! Problems!
jorb: if everybody could roll initiative for me! nyx: are we jumping through the hole in the ceiling?? leo: you bet your ass! targor rolled a 15 on his initiative! green: whoa! go off king! jorb: he's full of blood! leo: i think most people are.
jorb: [editing turn order so we can't see our opponents' rolls] you saw nothing. leo: i saw nothing but a 5 jorb: 5! green: 5! jorb: 4. green: 3. jorb: 2-- leo: [plays "E" with reverb on the soundboard] leo: did you know E is the 5th letter of the alphabet? :D
SOMEBODY THREW A DFUCKING JAVELIN AT US???? jorb: what would you like targor to do? green: targor! kill!
up against a human, an orc, and a half-orc! jorb: [stage whisper] they were all orcs in the original module, but i added some divesrsty hires! update: jorb misread the encounter so the javelin has been un-thrown and nameless has been un-mutilated

I CAN FUS RO DAH PEOPLE i should probably not fus ro dah people oh my god targor has a fucking. magic bloodsword. that's why they call him targor bloodsword ig hmm. nameless keeps using radiant damage now. i don't think that's what they usually do but i could be wrong. but also there has been no thorn whip silliness so far
jorb: i'm not even gonna make you roll, because he has 1 hp. [..] how do you want to do this? green: there's nothing that can go wrong with straight up cutting a guy in half anime style jorb: he goes "huh, that didn't do anything--" leo: he explodes. jorb: [explosion soundboard]
so anyway we just completely demolished that encounter in, like, one and a half rounds. goodbye fuckers

GIANT'S MIIIIIGHT [super mushroom noise] alidaar supersizes, charges head-on at the final enemy (which is the one that tried to push me through a window), and uses his battleax to slap him straight into the sky and obliterate him on impact. alidaar: FUCK YOUUUUU leo: --and then he goes back to normal because combat ended. [checks skills] wait no this last one minute. and that was six seconds. um. jorb: you're large now! leo: alidaar stands there and goes "huh. i'm large now."

I FORGOT KEPESK'S PRE-CAMPAIGN GROUP - IM GOING TO KILL JORB .RIGHT NOW kepesk's previous group was expies of the chaotix. targor was planned from the getgo to be mighty the armadillo. WAIT THE WILDERS ARE THE ONES THAT KILLED HIS PEOPLE. WE HAVE GASLIT HIM UNTIL THE VERY END green: i feel so bad, but yknow.. extenuating circumstances.. jorb: why does it keep spawning more namelesses? nyx: i shape back into binturong form. which hopefully there is only one of. AN INVISIBLE NAMELESS
jorb: do you guys wanna chat or are you just going to sleep? kepesk: so that was pretty fucked up, right? alidaar: yeah! kepesk: (at nameless) does it hurt when you go binturong mode, or? nameless: [shakes head] alidaar: sometimes they're a dog! --WAIT YOU WERE THERE FOR DOG WITH A SWORD kepesk: I WAS! :D
SOMETHING IS BREAKING INTO THE HUNTER'S LODGE AAAAAAAAAAA OH MY GOD. BIG BOAR BIG BOAR BIG BOAR
Tumblr media

Eh why not two posts in one day while we're at it:
Tumblr media
Look, I don't care if dragons don't think humans are as smart as them since they can't understand them the same way. Humans do that all the time.
But it's not like humans are oh so especially strange. There's a species of ants that raises insects for meat, another species of ant that farms aphids for honeydew liquid as food, beavers stop the flow of rivers with dams, herbivorous animals will eat meat if given the chance.
I'm saying humans keeping pets is not up there in odd things. However, dragons don't often keep pets. If anything the keeping of animals should be strange enough that of course a non-dragon species would do it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jambu: We live in a place with a huge amount of food, so we don't usually feel the need to hunt down a meal when we can get more calories for less energy. We never go hungry.
Glory: Vegetarian = Lazy.
Tumblr media
I'm gonna stop commenting on every out of pocket thing Glory says because we're not going to get anywhere at this rate
Tumblr media
Would love to see more of this and less of "Glory is more beautiful than all other species of dragon because she's the closest thing to human feminine beauty standards a dragon can get to"
Tumblr media
Babes, all the other queens you've met are Coral, Scarlet, Burn, and Blister. All of whom are their own forms of evil and cruel. I think Rainwings are doing something right actually. I mean they're careless, sure, but they haven't killed any children or locked them up in a prison for existing so... And bonus, no matricide, which can do wonders for one's mental health.
On the other hand, why would Rainwings do "queens" if they don't do families? Why not have a council of elders or elected leaders instead of a singular person every month? Something that reflects their highly communal society.
Tumblr media
God forbid any dragon society isn't explicitly racist.
I do honestly love how accepting Rainwings are. Unfortunately this is attributed to them being lazy and careless so...
Tumblr media
AKEJRA;KERJGN;A!! YES LIANA
Tumblr media
YES? Just a SMIDGEN? Didn't she leave you to die, then imprison all of you along with her daughter in a place where you'll die if you touch the water? And threaten to kill Tsunami when she wanted to protect her younger sister's egg?
Tumblr media
If you're communally raised there should be no reason why you can't punish that dragonet yourself. There are communities raised far less...together(?) like this, but your neighbor can punish your kids if they act out.
I think there are more pressing issues, even in time of peace, than bringing up every kid who's acting a fool. Because then like half of the queen's job would be dealing with annoying kids.

Alright, there's quite a bit here so I'll just put them all together so I can talk about them as a whole. Because boy do I have words:

Let's start with what we know. Rainwings are communally raised. Everyone is expected to aid in either raising children or providing for the tribe as a whole in some way (and possibly both at times). Animals that communally raise their children like this tend to have a very strong parental instinct towards young. Which also leads them to easily adopt into their groups (even from species not their own), which is possible reason why Rainwings can keep sloths as pets.
There is no class divide that we can see, and in general dragons seem to get along well with each other and are extremely friendly, even towards strangers. One would assume there'd be a very strong sense of community here.
So I ask this: Why would no one care about 12 missing dragons? From everything we know about Rainwing society, all the dragons should be very shaken and concerned by this. Those are their children, their parents, their friends, their family.
This is not laziness, this is apathy. You can be the most lazy person on the planet, but the moment someone you truly care about is in trouble that tends to go away quick. This does not show that Rainwings are lazy. This shows that they're uncaring and selfish.
The reaction Queen Magnificent gives is one of going up to an actual high queen and telling her 12 peasants are missing. Okay, fine, as cruel as it seems, we'd at least get why she wouldn't care. But this? It's not like she's being paid to be queen. She doesn't even seem to enjoy doing it. Why not just leave it to someone who actually cares?
And Bromeliad talks of Kinkajou as being "no one's favorite dragon," when Kinkajou is equally as friendly as the Rainwings have been shown to be. They clearly don't appreciate grumpy or downer dragons, so why would they hate Kinkajou who hasn't shown any of those traits? She's talkative sure, but that's not unusual. At worst, she just acts like a kid, what should be a normal Rainwing kid tbh. And there honestly shouldn't be anything stopping Bromeliad from changing her assignment and giving it to someone who like dragonets more than she. Again, it's not like they're paid to do this.

Hauyne: It's... been a while, hasn't it?
Orion: You mean the last time we got together? Technically we did that a few days ago...
Hauyne: *hums* True. Still, I can't help but feel things have gotten a bit too quiet for my liking.
Orion, raises an eyebrow: And is that a bad thing?
Hauyne: Not really. Actually, it's kinda nice not having to fear for our lives. It's just... *sighs*
Orion: You miss the excitement?
Hauyne: Yeah. You just, get used to it, you know? And it's weird that it's all so calm now.
Orion, contemplative: ...Would a battle royale help with the boredom?
Hauyne, perks up: What?
Orion: A battle royale. Free for all. Like a private tournament we host for our own entertainment.
Hauyne, mulling it over: That... doesn't sound half-bad. Sure, why not? At least it's something to do.
Orion, smiling: Great! Who should we invite...?
Hauyne: What about Imani and co? Maybe even a few others if we have enough room.
Orion: Then it's settled! A free-for-all battle royale it is.
(Yep. I finally did this. A major crossover "battle royale" event between our OCs. What does the winner take home? Who knows, I didn't think that far ahead 😂
It'd be great if someone else's OCs joined in the fun too!)
Imani, clapping excitedly: Oooooh, a free-for-all!!!! Oh that's so fun-
Leo: Wait didn't Asra and Hauyne already beat each other up? And now we all have to get beat up????
Asra: I think they mean a pokemon battle royal.....right?
Flynn: I hope so.....I can't really fight like that....
Leo: Yeah, and I don't wanna get beaten to a pulp by those two.
Suraya: Leo!
Imani: - oh but what team members do I use?! Especially given last time-
Leo: What?!
Suraya: Don't be rude! Besides, we're Aura Guardians, we can handle a fight.
Leo: You can handle a fight. I rather not-
Flynn: So....uh.....W-we're not fighting physically right? Guys????
Asra, pacing: Hmmm...... knowing Hauyne she would....no, no, she's pretty unpredictable. I haven't even faced Orion....
Imani: Oh but this could be a chance to let my fairies shine! Aaaah, but also my dragons-
Suraya: I thought you said you've been training?!
Leo: I have! But that doesn't mean I'm ready to fight!
The room erupts in constant noise. Imani and Asra are planning for..... different types battle, while Leo and Suraya argue about aura and readiness. Poor Flynn sits on the ground, contemplating her life.
Arrow, Blair and Cande all watch the chaos happen before. Them. Neither Arrow or Cande notice Blair's face growing more and more red.
Arrow: ......I have some concerns.
Cande: Yep. Though it does sound fun tho!
Arrow: ....true. Doesn't make it sound less disastrous.
Cande, shrugging: Eh. I'm pretty sure that's part of the charm-
Blair, face fully red and pissed: EVERYONE SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!
Everyone stops taking immediately, staring at Blair with wide eyes.
Blair: We'll ask Hauyne and Orion about the funeral details later, but stop being so fucking loud!!
The group all looks at each other, then back at Blair.
Everyone: Sorry-
Blair: SHUT.
( They accept the challenge! I , too, have no idea how this will go >:D. Chances are some will sit out, and I might have to make an impromptu team for the reborn trip, Asra and Cande. But this sounds fun!!! And anyone else who wants to join with their ocs can!!!)

Leona and my oc Tarak
Tarak flirt about Leona's hair in the middle of food argument about bacon vs ham and Leona not catching it til alittle after and trying to not think about it but face showing he is.
If i didn't do this right let me know..
You did perfectly fine, Hinata! (人*´∀`) I loved this request so much I deliberated on it all night before I started writing this! I love Tarak, and I give you a special drabble!
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Ah, so Savanaclaw is up for another Spelldrive Tournament? Leona, of course, refuses to lose to Malleus, and makes a dietary choice for the kitchen...
Ships: Leona × Tarak (Silent-Dragon's OC)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
✧*∴🌃∶*.✧ Leona could feel his eye twitching as he tried to go back to sleep, but the man at his side in bed was keeping him awake with such a petty argument. Leona was laying on his back and underneath his comforter and sheets, when he heard his boyfriend huff in his ear.
Leona's ear flutters at the exhale, and gripes out loud. "My final answer is no, go to sleep Tarak…"
Tarak, a Savanaclaw student not even two years his junior, had his arms around Leona's stomach as they had tried to wind down for sleep. But after planning the dinner for the autumn season and upcoming Spelldrive Training regiment, they had a bit of a fight after Ruggie had left. About food, no less…
"I don't see why we can't have bacon for the food platters on the day before; it's meat, it's pork, and it's easy to make!" Leona hears Tarak on his left, and the navy haired timber wolf sounds genuinely upset. "Not to mention you took it off the menus for a week before the regimen starts! That sounds a bit unfair…"
Leona slowly opens his eyes to give a tired, annoyed glare at Tarak. The timber wolf to his left was snuggled up to him, and curled up on his body from actually attempting to rest… then starting to sign in his ear. And Tarak's barely larger height benefits him in that situation.
Leona started with a sigh, "It's not like I'm starving you, Wolfy. It's one item; you still have chicken, buffalo, seafood, hamー"
"Ham is allowed! But bacon is pork too!"
"You know it's different!" Leona huffs. "That's like comparing… cumin powder and ginger, I don't know…" Leona really doesn't care about that comparison anymore, so he shakes his head.
"But why are you doing all this all of a sudden?" Tarak asked as he sat up slowly. His face actually moves in concern and confusion, and Leona could see hints of anger for something or another. But he was too tired to think of what. "You're so ready to use underhanded tactics, I almost expected you to be joking about helping the other members with their training."
Leona goes quiet and he stares at the timber wolf above him,and his face muscles slacken as he retreats from the conversation. Leona had put his foot down, and clearly wasn't letting it go. And Tarak's features tighten as Leona lets go, and Leona knows another fight could break out: Tarak hates when Leona becomes unreadable and retreats from an issue… but Leona was so tired, and it wasn't up for debate.
The cabinets have been stripped of bacon, syrups that were all sugar, deep frying ingredients, and other foods that he knew were overindulging or made his men lethargic. He didn't take much else off the list, and it wasn't as bad as Pomefiore's list of banned foods… but it was fine, in the name of pride.
"... As I've said; I don't care about food choices or this-that when we're not potentially facing Diasomnia in the coming weeks. This Spelldrive will be the one, I'm sure…" Leona's words sounded condescending, but not at Tarak. Something deep in his head he must be fighting, or someone. Leona rolls over fully, turning his back to Tarak in bed. "Go back to sleep. I don't wanna talk anymore."
There was silence after that, but he knew that Tarak was staring at his back with intensity. Tarak didn't say a word as he slowly laid back down behind Leona, and Leona began to close his eyes. His chest gave a pang of loneliness as the heat from his lover sapped from his skin, but nothing can help it anymore…
Leona feels his muscles start to relax as he starts to forcibly induce sleep, when he feels hands in his hair.
Leona doesn't jump, but he does stiffen at the shoulders as Tarak messes with his hair and plays with it. He can feel the slightly taller wolf's heat come against his back, and feels a hand round his hip to hold him gently. The hand in his hair twirls, tugs, combs through it and Leona believes he could just fall asleep again…
When he feels the hand sweep his hair away from his neck and back, and he feels a mouth kiss and blow hot air across his neck. Leona stiffens at the tickling sensation, but Tarak draws Leona back against him from the hand on the hip to kiss deeper against his neck and shoulders.
"T-Tarak, you shit…" Leona cusses as he turns away from where he tried to look at Tarak, his face heating as he tries to bury his face into his pillows to get away.
If he could turn around, he was sure that damn thumping would be Tatak's tail wagging against the bed! Tarak huffs and smiles as he nuzzles into Leona's neck. "If I could see your face, I'm sure it'd be red, kitty-cat…"
Tarak feels Leona jump, and then next thing he knows: he feels a pillow hit his head!

What were your thoughts about your team back when you started, and what do you think about them now that you've dealt with so much stuff together?
What will you do if Azemondius or Igris chooses to come back into the team?
Are you open and willing to have new teammates?
"We were all led to the little town of Vrath when we met, a spot so small and unknown that it wasn't even signed on a map. Despite what the others may have thought, I know I had been chosen for this mission, and I'm very sure that so were the others. To tell the truth, I was pretty intimidated by both Hoyt and Azemondeus at the beginning, but I trusted the reason why we were all sitting at that table from the first second, and that hasn't changed."
She chuckled to the memory. "If I'm correct, Azemondeus was already sitting at that table with the Man in Red, the one that gave us the quest to retrieve the ritual book of the cult, the Story of Two Brothers. Hoyt was playing dice with a mischievous and fun looking halfling with green skin, Igris went to talk to a lone giant man that sat across the tavern on his own, and Ashava... well, Sasha, as I knew her back then, was dancing with the tavern's performer in front of the kiln that gave the name to the tavern. Arshea and Desna were also sitting together, not too far from where Igris went, and Arshea was devastated with grief as usual... I understand now, the two Soulless waitresses must have had that effect on her. She very much wished for people to live their lives to the fullest, and Soulless people just don't care anymore."
"But, back to the topic. Hoyt was clearly not someone that normally worked with others, and Azemondeus was always gloomy and uninterested, with his own personal purpose in mind. Igris was also wary of them, so I couldn't but be influenced by that. We fought well together, but the team really formed when it was decided to keep the book from the Man in Red, on his protectee's suggestion."
"By the time we reached Deadbridge, we all knew each other a little better. Azemondeus opened up a little about the tragic loss of his wife in a fire due to some assassins aimed at him and about how he now works for his witch mother in exchange for the power and strength to have his revenge. Hoyt revealed that he was turned permanently into a goblin by the target of his latest assassination contract and that before completing his mission, sacred to his god Achaekek, he was investigating on the reasons why that contract existed in the first place. Igris was supposedly adventuring with me to explore the world, but he also had to spread the name of his dragon ancestor, Rathgruul, while I'm also growing stronger and looking for a way to defeat the Vitalia, the monster that is killing so many in my lake. Trust was slowly getting built, and we even had fun along the way..."
"But then Azemondeus preferred to detach to work alone, because when he asked for our complete support to kill his brother just because Rasmia said so, we tried to suggest we should look into this first. He didn't even know his brother! We weren't trying to be offensive, but he didn't take it well... When we met again weeks later at the Witches' gathering, at least, he wasn't mad at us."
"For what concerns Igris, I still don't know why he left. He disappeared all of a sudden without a word. Echo is still looking for him through his scrying spells, but I received no news about him yet, other than he's alive."
"I doubt either of them will return," she admitted with a sigh, "but if others joined us, like Zinnya did, we're not turning them down and I wouldn't but be happy about it. Besides, since they were gone, we've been suffering the most damage and both Hoyt and I risked to die, walking the River of Souls towards final judgement and almost getting face to face with Pharasma."
"Honestly, it feels like she's... not part of the grand scheme we got involved in. No gods reached out for her or informed her about what's been going on, and Ashava asked me to judge if she's worthy of their trust as well. She's with us because we were working on the undead situation between Deadbridge and Bodie's Haunt, which seem to be her sworn target, and as we found out that the necromancer in the latter city was cooperating with the Black Tears, she decided to tag along. I think this would apply to other people as well, but then who knows..."

Blood of the Basilisk Chapter 18
I am rotating Pyter rotating that pendulum around over and over in my mind. I wanna know what the fuck it is.
When I said I wanted to see Nadani leave the house independently I didn't realise I was wishing on a monkey's paw and that an entire full market in the semidaem ward would get burned down to make it happen, holy shit.
Good to finally meet Dura on page though. She was a delight. Calling everyone in the household Lady, and presumably something along the lines of young master for Pyter just to be sure she doesn't go causing offence is such a good little trait.
Sikudhana needs to elaborate on that "you've got a bit of dragon magic in you" factoid. What did Pyter do? Or could Kota have accidentally done something when removing the slave brand? I'm still leaning towards well intentioned feradrake shenanigans.
Feels like a point of potential worry for Nadani until they figure out how it happened what the nature of the dragon power is though. As far as she is concerned it could be a stealth slave mark. I reckon its probably some kind of "you're family" or "you are loved" type deal instead though just because of the genre we're working in.
I love that Sikudhana's response to Nadani's explanation of why she doesn't think it was a gremlin (complete with unicorn) was just to look at her silently for a moment. Like yeah. Same. You're right arson doesn't sound gremlin-y when you put it like that.
The healing of burns by drawing fire out was cool as fuck. This:
The power of the flame was intoxicating, and it took time for her to clear her head enough to realize the man had spoken to her.
fucking worries me a little. It could be nothing. Could just be an innocent comment on what its like using powers when she hasn't had access or understanding before. Could be me fully projecting just because I once played an onomancer who could get power boosts by exploiting elementals with her magic (at least thats what her master trained her for) and so everytime powers of any kind are described as intoxicating I am primed to go "What if they did get addicted though?"
I love how the community has come together to help not just with clearing and healing and rebuilding, but also making sure food and water and such is there to sustain the folks working and in need of care, up to and including putting umbrellas up wherever anyone finds a place to rest. It's so good.
Which makes it such a shame Guthrie arrived to ruin my mood.
Full honestly my first thought was "I wonder if she's returning to the scene of the crime." Closest reason I would be able to think why though is to flush Nadani out and of all potential bounty hunters that might be out to recapture Nadani Guthrie would know she wasn't in the ward, and would have no reason to think burning it would draw Nadani out of the safe confines of Kota's house.
I do think the fire was lit by someone less informed and hoping to get at Nadani though. I suppose it could be unrelated or more to do with the keystone and far gate thing, but... idk.
I like that Dura's response to Guthrie's shit talking Kota was a hand to her knife. I wonder if later Nadani will look back on that as "Loyal Orc Girl gonna Loyal Orc Girl" or as "Kota's employee was ready to pull a weapon on someone Kota doesn't like being around Nadani." One point Kota will have in her favour is that Dura didn't actually make a move against Guthrie.
Every time, or rather the longer, we see Guthrie she feels shadier. Idk. I don't like the interest she's taken in Nadani. She's too careful in her wording and framing of events to set Nadani against Kota even when Nadani speaks against that interpretation to feel well intentioned. She might not have been a direct threat the first time they met, but she's had time to have been contacted or heard about a lucrative kidnapping job by now ('cause you can bet the cult wants Nadani back as much as they want Kota dead for "taking" her) and she definitely feels like the type to finesse the target into practically black bagging themselves.
I have the opening shift tomorrow so I should have been in bed 40mins ago, but I saw this chapter started with Pyter getting scritches and basically fell in a trance so I'm gonna sleep now.

Why is my school so fucking incompetent???
“Hey, are you going to send out some sort of checklist of everything that graduating seniors need to know and do to properly graduate?”
“That’s a great idea, Dragon!”
Great idea? You mean?? You weren’t going to send this extremely important shit out to everyone in written form until I magically presented a “great idea???” Are you out of your fucking mind????

Tumblr media
"Hi there."
Just two single words are uttered from your lips and Jungkook is reminded of everything that has happened from the very first moment you spoke those exact first words to him.
He remembered those eyes of yours, so lost, so lonely, yet still having that kindness within to try and reach out a hand in order to ease his pain even if it meant just a small dose. Little did you know you'd end up as a true keeper of the dragons, lover to the seven princes of the East Sky and Mountains. But knowing the rewards, in the end, had never been anything you were seeking for at the time, and his heart warmed at the single reminder of how truly kind your heart is. After all, before you could even come to that moment of happiness with them all, you had to face serious consequences all because of that kind heart of yours.
Looking back on it, Jungkook only wished he could have dealt with it all in a better sense. If he were there for you like you were always for him, if he had gotten to his lovers a little sooner to make them see that nothing about you had been false, if he had been there through your pains and tears, maybe you could have reached that dream of freedom and happiness so much quicker.
"Jungkook?" Yet no matter what he thought, you were always there gracing him a sweet smile with such precious eyes that he knew he would forever hold dearly to.
"Back from taking care of the little whelps?" He asked, driving his thoughts away from the memories in order to look at what was in front of him instead. Jungkook knew he couldn't keep dwelling on the past no matter how much it had hurt him. Because here you were, lips curled into a brighter smile and he knew then that no matter what he thought, you'd never blame him for anything.
But perhaps that was what was hurting him even more.
You walked into the castle, feet having light bounces to them with a basket full of laundry. "I'm fairly certain Namjoon will hold an apprentice ceremony for Haeun soon. Who do you suppose her mentor will be?"
He grabbed you by the arm to pull you back in front of him before you could walk right past him without a second thought, surprising you just a bit.
"I'm sure Namjoon will make a wise decision on that but," the young dragon drew both his hands to hold you firmly by the shoulders as he expressed a disappointed face, "don't you think you're forgetting about someone else first?"
You giggled under his adorable pout. "Don't you have to get ready for the afternoon hunting patrol soon?" You reminded him, causing him to let out a grunt.
"Why is it that Taehyung and Seokjin are the ones to have you by their sides every day? Why can't it be me?"
"Kook," you laugh, "you know your hyungs would never let me go out there to support the patrols. For one, it can be dangerous especially for a simple human like me, and two, I don't have a clue on what to do during a patrol."
He sighed, allowing his hands to drop by his side again. "It's unfair. Sometimes I wish I wasn't a warrior."
"Don't say that. The clan has both you and Hoseok to keep us protected and that is something I would never want to take away from you."
"I know. I just want to spend more time with you" He looked up to meet your gaze again. "But for now this will do." Without any warning, he leaned in to give you a quick kiss to your lips, causing your cheeks to brighten in an instant as he strolled away with a giggle, knowing exactly what your expression would show without even looking.
You were too adorable for your own good.
.
.
"Have you ever had scented candles before?"
On one of the rarer days when you were free from your duties and didn't have the little whelps demanding for your attention almost every second you turned your head and Seokjin was well on his own, you accompanied Jimin in the lonely dungeons as he made his rounds as head of the guards, making small talks ever so often.
There weren't many prisoners locked up for their bad deeds just as the time you spent there a prisoner yourself so you knew Jimin often got lonely making his rounds all alone each time. Taking that into consideration, you weren't going to let the opportunity of your free time be spent doing nothing.
"Scented candles?" You tilted your head slightly to the side with innocent eyes that always got him every time and Jimin chuckled lightly after dropping his clipboard on a table from finishing his rounds with you by his side and turning to elsewhere. "I've heard of them before but they don't necessarily exist around here do they?"
"They don't but there are tales of the scented candles being of great help to be of comfort for anyone in need." Your eyes widened at his words, feeling quite intrigued, and when Jimin turned back around with a few things in hand, your breath hitches. "The first person that came into mind was you when I heard about them," he told you with bright eyes smiling as he brought them on over towards the table at the center of the room. You followed him curiously, rounding yourself to stand beside him as he displayed the candles for you. "So I had one of our traveler dragons to bring them back when they had the time."
"Jimin..." You felt so touched by his kind thoughts for you you almost didn't know what to say towards the sweet gesture. But when he graced you with a tender smile upon your gaze on him, you were sure he understood your thankfulness towards him.
"If only we had these at the time when you were our prisoner." His face fell with slight dejection but you were quick to shake your head lightly.
"Having you to help me then was more than enough, Jimin, I promise. Then again," thinking back to that time, you giggled upon the memories, "would you guys have really wasted such precious things on me at the time?"
He sighed. "I'm glad we can joke about it now but looking back at it, we were so horribly rude to you I can't believe I let my emotions get the best of me."
"You were just worried for the little one."
He chuckled upon your words with a tousle to your hair. "I don't think Jungkook would appreciate someone smaller than him calling him the little one."
You gave him a pout. "And why not? You do it to him all the time."
"Because I'm his hyung. Though he does often tease me about it from time to time." You giggled knowingly, already picturing their small bickering when it came to the two of them and their banters. Having seen that, Jimin smiled from where he stood beside you and brought his hand behind your head in order to pull you close and place a sweet kiss on your forehead, surprising you and making your cheeks flare up at the sudden gesture without warning. He found it cute how you had yet to get used to their kisses whether unexpected or not but returned his eyes to the candles despite the shocking state you were still in.
"Shall we try one of them?"
With his question, you blinked in a daze before shaking your head to return to the subject, and with your cheeks still slightly flushed, your eyes darted back to the candles laying on the table. "There are so many different kinds," you observed with a slightly opened mouth of astonishment to which Jimin found adorable.
"I didn't know what kind of scent you'd prefer so I got the dragon to get a couple different kinds."
"Lots of them are flowery scents," you beamed under the lowlights of the dungeon as you went on to pick up the candles in order to observe them up close. Pulling them up close to your nose, you waft at them in order to get a sense of how each of them smelt, your expressions clearly pleased each time you got a new scent to try as Jimin simply stood there watching you, happiness blooming in his chest at just the sight of you so content. "They all smell so great even without it lit up."
Your face fell with furrowed brows as you stared at each of the candles, having a hard time choosing which one to try first and Jimin let out a laugh. "You're so cute," he said. "We can try every one of them now if you still have time to spare."
"I have all the time to spare!" You exclaimed almost a little too happy for someone who had come in the dungeons declaring the desire to help. But he knew that was just the way you were and for that alone, Jimin wasn't at all dissatisfied by it.
"Well then, since you're having a hard time choosing which one to try first, just close your eyes and choose."
"Good idea!"
Upon Jimin's suggestion, you quickly closed your eyes and hovered your hand over the candles, blindly searching over each one before you finally settled with the one to the far right. With that, you opened your eyes again and held that one up.
"Lavender," the dragon beside you stated.
"Lavender's wonderful!" You were quick to say with your eyes lighting up at the chosen one. "It helps relieve stress and anxiety," you let him know and his brows furrowed a little at your words.
"Are you having trouble, little one?" He asked, concerned.
"Oh no, not me," you quickly said with a shake of your head. "I want to share this with Namjoon because I know being a leader to a clan isn't always the easiest. He comes home later than every one of us after all and most times I'm already asleep by then. I haven't seen him around lately so I'm a little worried."
His eyes softened at your innocent kindness that never seemed to ever leave your heart no matter what and for that alone, Jimin almost believed that he was falling in love all over again. "We're so lucky to have you by our side."
You looked up at him and gave him a humble shake of your head. "It's the other way around," you smiled. "Do you think he'll appreciate it? Oh, but you got these for me as gifts."
"Don't worry, it's always best to share gifts like these with each other," he said while gently stroking your head. "I know Namjoon will be more than happy to receive this."
"Then shall we also choose candles for the others as well? I think it would be really incredible to build a storage room for scented candles so that whenever one of us needs it, we can always—"
"Before that."
"Hm?"
Innocently, you looked up from the candles to meet Jimin's gaze only to have your lips captured in a sweet kiss, leaving your breath to hitch and your eyes to widen as you froze right there at the unexpected kiss.
Jimin leaned away just enough to give you some space with a chuckle. "Your reactions will always please me."
"J-Jimin!"
"But," his brows furrowing slightly, he brought his hand over to slowly swipe his thumb along his lip as you simply stood there, staring at those plump lips of his, not knowing what to do, "I want more, little one."
"J.." Your cheeks brightened even more as your eyes were quick to avert to the ground upon meeting his eyes, causing him to let out another throaty chuckle.
"I love you."
He found it amusing in the way your face only seemed to flush even more each time he did and said something. Your eyes were shaking, not knowing where to look, and he was sure your head was swarming with thoughts of how to respond to him. Surely you were panicking upon whether to return those sweet three words or not and it brought a tug at the corner of his lips.
"Well?" He raised a brow, waiting for your permission.
You bit your lip, still contemplating, but Jimin went on to take the lavender-scented candle away from your grasp to place it back onto the table as he inched towards you in a sly manner.
"I..." You opened your mouth shyly.
"Yes?" He urged you on.
"I-I..." You stepped back out of panic but he followed right away. "Well..um..."
"Hm?"
Bravely, you looked up to meet his eyes head-on and Jimin smirked, satisfied with that. But still, he waited to hear your words and despite how slow you were with it, hearing it made him happy nonetheless.
"I love you too." You told him and he smiled, letting his hand trail down your face in a gentle possessive manner before leaning in and pressing his sweet lips to your own.
It's a gentle kiss like the gentleman he is and not long after your thoughts are filled with him and him alone.
.
.
"I can't wait to become an apprentice! I just know prince Namjoon will choose the perfect one for me!"
You giggled fondly at the little dragoness who sat beside you helping you with your duties as the two of you fold the blankets for the whelps together. "But before that, you will have to let him know what you want to be first, right?"
"Ah," she said, almost as if she had forgotten about the beginning steps first.
"Well?" You urged her on. "What would you like to be as part of the clan?"
She looked away thinking, her hands coming down to a stop on top of the white blanket that laid on her lap, her thoughts going on to stray away to the different duties every dragon has as a member of the clan.
"Unnie how did you choose what you wanted to do?" She asked you instead of answering, her decisions still unclear.
"Well," you started, ready to help her to try and decide, "I chose to be both Seokjin's underling and helping out with the whelps because I love helping. I guess it was easy to decide because, for one, I enjoy taking care of the whelps' needs, and two, I'm used to the herbs and remedies as I've often had to learn them myself without relying on others to help me heal when I needed it. Plus it comes in handy when the princes need to be tended to."
"You don't like just watching on the sideline and would rather be of help, huh?"
You nodded with a smile. "Tending to them makes me feel useful. I can protect them in that sense while they help to protect the clan as warriors themselves. I'd hate to just stand back and watch them in pain, not knowing how to help them. It'd feel worse than anything"
Haeun broke into a beaming smile at your answer. "Unnie, that sounds just like you."
You chuckled at her words and went on to tousle her hair. "You'll find your purpose one day soon. Take your time, no one is rushing you."
"Oh!" She let out a cute little gasp. "What if I worked as a caretaker as well? That way I can be of more help here in the roosts!"
"That sounds—"
"No."
The two of you turned at the voice to find Taehyung walking up with a slightly displeased expression as he handed little Kihyun to Haeun before shamelessly pulling you against his chest right in front of the kids.
"T-Taehyung!" You quickly gasped and were ready to push him away at the unexpected gesture. Only he wasn't going to let you go.
"You already spend too much time with my princess, you can't keep taking her away from me. I'm supposed to be the one who spends more time with her than anyone else, Haeun!"
You couldn't believe this was the reason for his refusal of Haeun's help but rather than taking him seriously, the dragoness let out an exasperated sigh as she stood from her spot with Kihyun in hand before purposely sticking her tongue out at the prince. "Sucks to be you then, my prince, because unnie likes me more than you anyways!"
He let out a dramatic gasp with the grip around you only tightening. "How dare you say such lies."
Yet she made no comebacks and simply ran away before Taehyung could scold her anymore.
You giggled at their little banter and turned around to face your lover with a sigh. "I would appreciate it if you kept the affections to a minimum in front of the little ones."
"Why should I? Those little dragons are already trying to steal you away. I'm just marking my territory so they know not to steal someone else's mate, especially one that belongs to a prince."
"You know they're just playing around."
"That's what they'd like you to think, those mischievous little brats."
You burst out laughing at how ridiculous he was, jealous of the little dragons and even having quite the serious pout plastered upon his face. You didn't know what to expect walking into the relationship but even so, everything had been so well you were glad to be able to laugh and smile along their sides no matter how many times you'd get flustered by the things they did.
Frowning at you for not taking him seriously, Taehyung grabbed a hold of your face in both his large palms and brought himself right in front of you, making your laughter cease almost instantly.
"Is it fun making me jealous?" The prince asked with a raised brow, suddenly giving you a deadpanned look you weren't sure what to think. "Hm, princess?"
Your eyes panned away from his out of panic, already afraid to be caught by the poor little dragons in case they stumbled upon the two of you. "Tae—"
"I'm right in front of you yet you're focusing on something else?"
"If the whelps catch us like this, I—" He brought your face forcibly back to face him again with a displeased expression that is quick to bring your voice quiet all over again. "Tae..." Seeing him like that was a little surprising to you. After all, despite the many months spent in the dragon clan, there was still so much you had yet to know of including how the princes would act as your lovers, and now that you were with them, it still felt a little unbelievable they would feel such love and possessiveness over you.
Maybe that was just the nature of dragons. Just as you've heard stories of them being quite possessive with their treasures, perhaps mating was just as if not more important.
Your faces were so close you were sure Taehyung could feel the heat of your cheeks against his palm. It made you even shyer so you looked away, not brave enough to keep eye contact for much longer, and just for that, he let out a knowing chuckle.
"You're so cute." His voice was low, quiet. "I don't want anyone else to see this side to you, princess. You're ours after all, aren't you?"
You ignored his words in an attempt to hide your embarrassment. "Don't you think, um...you're being a little too brave doing this right here?"
"I'm sure Haeun's got us covered."
"That's not—!" You grunted. "We can't let her watch the whelps all alone, you know that."
"Eh," he shrugged, not caring one bit, "she's a good kid. She'll take care of it. In the meantime—"
"Noona!!"
You were quick to gasp and pushed Taehyung away as soon as you heard the young voice calling your name. "Do you need something, Minho?" You asked, turning around as the little one ran up to you while you both ignored the cry of agony and frustration falling out of Taehyung's lips as he leaned back into one of the beds of the whelps, holding his face against his palm at the missed opportunity that was now ripped away from him.
"Noona I wanna play with you!" The little dragon exclaimed with a bright innocent grin plastered on his face but Taehyung knew it was anything but. As if to provoke the prince further, he grabbed ahold of your hands and dragged you off, not even sparing Taehyung a single glance, knowing fully well what he had just done.
.
.
"Y/N."
"Namjoon!" He saw you quick on your little feet as you ran up to him with a beaming smile that was just enough to slowly ease the weights resting on his shoulders. But he knew it wouldn't last forever despite wanting to keep seeing that precious smile of yours even if it meant for just one whole night, dreading for the time that was coming. "I was just looking around for you!"
He gave you a tender smile as he drew his hand along your face, stroking it gently. "Did you need me for something, dear one?"
"Mhm!" You took his hand, ready to run off. "Come here, I—"
But Namjoon pulled you back to stand right before him again, he himself not having moved one inch despite you just about to drag him away. "Can it wait?" He said, causing your smile to fall with a slight concern.
"Oh. Are you busy?"
He hated doing that to you. "I was just about to have Yoongi call for a clan meeting."
"Ah," you said, nodding. "Then I will wait for you in—"
"Actually."
"Hm?"
"I want you to attend the meeting."
That took you by surprise as your eyes widened a little, totally unaware that Namjoon would ask you to attend a clan meeting. Usually, he would have all the princes and his most trusted dragons together for a meeting first before letting the rest know of any news that would be important to announce. You've never attended any meetings before and there hadn't been one for a while so surely the things he had to discuss had to be important, right? So why would he ask you to attend?
Seeing the confusion written on your face, Namjoon began to explain. "You're our Keeper now, remember?" He said, reminding you of the ceremony that had taken place just a few weeks ago. "Must I keep reminding you that you are now very important to the dragon clans?"
"Well..." They've mentioned that but you have yet to know what exactly that title meant for you. "I haven't exactly done much, have I?"
"I know," he nodded, understanding. "Truthfully none of us truly understands how a human would prepare for this role but I need you to begin seeing this title as your new duty. I know you have the whelps to take care of and also work alongside Seokjin but being a Keeper will begin to take up the majority of your time now. I need you to be prepared for anything, Y/N."
"I..." The serious gaze he held for you made you understand how crucial it was but still, you couldn't find the answer as to why. "I don't understand."
Namjoon nodded again. "It is best to let everyone know first before you ask your questions." He took your hand and began leading you towards the one room you hadn't exactly been to before; the meeting hall. "But just know that from now on, the Keeper will be attending every meeting that is to be held."
Knowing your questions would be answered soon, you gave him a nod. "Okay."
The meeting hall was a grand hall that laid a large table right in the middle with twelve chairs surrounding it all together. Seeing it up close and personal itself, you could understand just how serious the meeting was going to be. Even Taehyung himself who had already taken his place towards one of the ends held a grim expression.
But upon seeing you walk in with Namjoon at your side, his face lit up just the slightest bit.
"You look tense," he joked as if trying to ease your nerves with his little jokes. "It's alright, princess," the dragon assured you with a soft smile as he held his hand out to offer you a seat beside him. You easily took his hand, allowing him to guide you to the chair beside him as the others began to file in.
Hoseok took his place on your other side with a grin. "First time here?" He asked almost flirtatiously and made you let out a giggle.
Not long after the meeting began.
"The three clans have gotten news of me declaring Y/N as Keeper of the Dragons." You could feel all eyes turning to you at the report that left Namjoon's lips and just for that, you felt a weird feeling drop within your stomach but you weren't sure exactly what you were supposed to feel.
Was it a good thing? Or not?
Weren't the Clans all connected in one way or another despite them ruling their own skies and mountains? Questions swarmed in your head and you were suddenly realizing just how much you didn't know about lots of things that were important to the clan.
Sensing your confusion, Namjoon began to explain. "There are four main clans. The East, the West, the North, and the South. The other clans that exist are the smaller clans that protect other areas that are not covered by the four major clans. The warriors live protecting our territories in order to maintain the lands that were given to us from the first beginning wars many years ago. We are allowed to go to war with any smaller clan to gain land if we wish to do so, but none of us are allowed to attack any of the major clans so that no one clan becomes one over the other and dictates the rest."
"Hence that's where gaining a Keeper poses a problem, doesn't it, my prince?"
You turned your head at the warrior that had spoken. "It..does?"
He sent you a conflicted expression. "Us major clans may not be allowed to attack the others to maintain order but there are other ways to gain power and look slightly better than the rest."
"And one way by doing that is having our ancestor warriors accept a Keeper into one of the clans," another warrior added.
You were posing a problem as a Keeper already? Just by existing? Did that mean you'd have to leave in order to not cause more problems and potentially be the reason the clans may go to war?
Seeing those worried brows furrowing, Seokjin turned back to Namjoon. "The clans have given you their answers, I am sure. What did they say?"
With Seokjin's question, the attention returned to the high prince once again.
"They will accept the Keeper as long as we grant them the permission to use her in the case of any major wars."
Jungkook abruptly stood up in protest. "No!" He said in a thunderous tone with a face filled with rage at the thought of even bringing you to the wars. "I will not allow anyone to use Y/N in any way shape or form even if it comes to our own wars."
"But the Keeper has her powers to protect herself and the ones beside her."
"Y/N doesn't know how to use her powers yet," he was quick to dismiss the thought.
Meanwhile, you look at Hoseok and Taehyung beside you with confusion at this so-called power of yours. You really possessed powers now? And as if reading your thoughts, the two of them gave you a silent nod both firmly to let you know that all of this was real.
"She can learn."
"And she will."
"Whether she learns it well or not does not mean I will let anyone take advantage of her and put her life at risk. Y/N's already gone through so much, you can't just expect her to suddenly be thrown into the middle of our clan's problems."
But you were the root of the problem so it only made sense. And you were sure you weren't the only one thinking that as you looked around the room, noticing the hesitation in the warrior's expressions as some of them felt conflicted on whether to voice their true opinion on the matter or not since they all knew you were the lover of the princes.
Sighing silently with worry, you spared a glance towards Namjoon who seemed to be the one in the most conflicted position. After all, as leader of the East Clan, he had to consider both sides to the problem while also needing to take in the other clan's words without dismissing it so easily.
As you sat there while the debate continued on, you realized that the only way the clan could have accepted you at all was to become a Keeper. That was the only position available to you as a human in order to be someone not only the East Clan could trust but the rest of the clans as well. Which also meant that this was Namjoon's way of protecting you. Because as Keeper, you were given the power to protect not just the people around you but yourself as well.
"Hyung." Jungkook turned back to Namjoon, wanting the leader to declare the words of declining the other clan's orders but you knew it wasn't going to be that easy of a decision.
The room fell silent again as the youngest of the prince addressed the leader who sat tall in his seat at the end of the table. His gaze remained grim with both his hands clasped together in front of him with silent thoughts swarming in his head.
It remained that way for a while, the room waiting for Namjoon to speak.
He closed his eyes for a second before sitting back tall against his seat and looking up to rest his gaze right on you. Your heart skipped a beat, not knowing what he was going to ask of you or if he had come up with a decision, and whatever it was, you knew you had to be prepared.
"Y/N," he called, voice uttered in a low octave.
"Yes?" You were almost too afraid of what his next words were going to be but this was Namjoon you were talking about. You knew you could trust him with your whole life. The two of you went through danger together, helped each other up, carried one another, and made it out alive in the end. You knew more than anyone that he wouldn't purposely lead you to danger. After all, even though he had hated you then, he still protected you from that great fall because he knew you were special to Jungkook.
If there was anyone you could trust, it would be Namjoon.
"The wars that the dragon clans may involve themselves in can be quite brutal," he told you. "There will be enemy dragons far more dangerous than the ones that had attacked both you and Seokjin. You have to, however, be rest assured that our own warriors are far stronger than you can ever imagine. I will do all that I can to negotiate with the other three clans but be prepared to know that you may be needed in one of the wars in the future."
"Namjoon—"
He held a hand up to silence Jungkook without ever diverting his gaze from you. "No dragon that belongs to the clans, whether that of the major clans or the smaller ones, will ever dare to harm you. Every dragon knows not to try and harm a Keeper who lives to protect them. So if and when the wars ever come, will you give your complete trust to us in due time just as the clans will do the same with you?"
Seeing that complete resolve in Namjoon's eyes which hides no lies upon his vow to keep you from harm's way, you knew your answer.
"More than anything, I will entrust my life to the clans."
Proud with your reply, Namjoon let himself give you a faint smile in return.
"This will mean the clans will want to meet her, won't they?" Jimin spoke up upon the possibility and returning to his serious expression once again, Namjoon gave a nod.
"The Keeper has much to learn then."
"That's right."
Customs and courtesies along with the history of the Clans and their origins. Adding along with your training as a Keeper, the need to protect the dragon clans. You had much to do but you knew running away from it wasn't going to happen so you sat there with a resolved look in your eyes, letting the dragons know that you were going to do it all if it meant protecting them.
They smiled knowingly, proud to have you as their Keeper.
.
.
"Can't sleep?"
Namjoon's eyes turned tender upon the sight of you joining him out on the balcony later that night. He held out a hand for you to take and you gladly accepted it with no protest, allowing him to bring you forward and wrap his arms around you to keep you warm from the night breeze.
It remained silent for a while with the two of you just basking in each other's warmth, comfortable with just the sound of the crickets chirping under the night sky filled with the light of the twinkling stars.
"I'm sorry," he whispered a moment later and you turned to look up at him with confusion.
"For what?"
"When I gave you the title as Keeper of the Dragons, I should have asked you about it all first instead of just deciding it all on my own," he told you with a grim expression resting on his face. "Now you're going to have to face some challenges that you weren't prepared for."
His voice was soft against the wind, but you could hear the guilt and heavy stress weighing against him, letting you know that he had been worrying about you with all of this now going on. The other three clans weren't going to give in to his negotiations that easily but Namjoon would be working hard just for the sake of you and for that you knew all you wanted to do at that moment was to ease his burdens.
"It's okay," you told him softly as you leaned against his chest to let him understand that you weren't blaming him for any of it. "You gave me a place in your clan and that is more than enough."
"Being a Keeper is not going to be easy on you. Whether it was the only title I could give you as a human or not, this will only make things harder on you."
You chuckled a little at those words. "You know more than anyone nothing has been easy for me in the first place."
"Exactly." He let out a sigh as his arms around you tightened with worry. "This isn't exactly helping."
"As a Keeper, no one can hurt me, right?"
"You're going to have to learn to defend and use your powers first."
"Mhm," you nodded. "And I will."
"I know you will Y/N, and I trust you with all that I have," he acknowledged without any doubt. "I know that despite the situation you're suddenly placed in, the burdens you will have to face as a Keeper, you won't let any of that get to you and will do all that you can do for the clan. But," he gave you a squeeze, holding you tighter as if to silently tell you how afraid he was knowing he had no choice but to send you away as a leader who had to make the best decisions for everyone, "truthfully I wanted to agree with Jungkook and straight-up refuse the thought of even involving you in any future wars. The little one knows you best. He's seen through it all, feels the most guilty out of any of us for not being able to protect you as well as we should have. And I know you don't blame him, none of us does, he was after all the one who fought so hard for your life. But because he had to go through that, Jungkook will be the one to suffer the most when we have to send you off to fight."
You understood that. You understood the fact that Jungkook's heart was so big he wanted to protect everyone he could with his power. He was there beside you, always feeling helpless he couldn't do much to help you in your situation knowing he had been less powerful than the rest of his hyungs, but even then, you would never blame him because none of it was his fault.
He was a kind, gentle, and loving dragon who refused to let any of his lovers get hurt. But you understood where Namjoon was coming from and knew this wasn't going to be easy at all.
"I will tell you this though," you looked up at the leader whose eyes were already on yours with a firm resolve in his eyes. "As the leader of the Eastern Clan and as your lover, I will not let anything happen to you no matter what we will face in the future. So can you place your faith in me and do your part knowing I will be standing right beside you in all of this?"
"Namjoon..." Dealing with the Clans and potentially needing to be used in some of the future wars would not be easy, you knew, but you also knew that you weren't going to be alone. So you gave him a firm nod, knowing more than anyone that you could trust him. "Of course."
He leaned in to place a kiss on your head. "That's all I need to hear."
.
.
The days grew longer and longer as you took your duties off as Seokjin's assistance and the caretaker of the whelps in order to begin your training as the true Keeper of the Dragons.
You were given a teacher who taught you the history of the Clans and common customs and courtesies to prepare you for the meeting of the other three clans and had to face a challenge in trying to understand how the previous Keeper had lived.
None of it was easy, knowing you would be alone throughout most of it because the dragons themselves had no idea of how to train someone with a position they've never had to face. So you spent most of your time in the large library mostly to yourself with lessons after lessons on the history of the Clans and the first Keeper of the Dragons.
Given the ability to wield the power to physically protect someone while having no idea how to use or control it was hard for a beginner like you, but you knew you couldn't give up so easily because this was now your duty. You couldn't let your clan down nor disappoint anyone.
Everyone believed in you, it was your duty to show them that you were capable of this position without any doubt.
If the other three clans blindly trusted in you to the point of potentially asking you for aid in future wars then you could not let them see you as a weak and vulnerable human who would make excuses on how hard it was. You had to prove yourself to everyone.
Not just your princes, not just your clan nor the other three clans, but to yourself as well.
You were going to face this head-on, knowing it was your duty to protect the dragons now as Keeper of the Dragons.
.
.
"Tired?"
You quickly shook your head as you headed back to the private chambers after another long day of studying. With a big smile plastered on your face, you knew you couldn't let them worry over you so much.
"I'm perfect!" You said to Yoongi who held on to a skeptical expression.
"Well that's true but," he held his hand up to stroke your hair with eyes that didn't blindly believe you so easily, "you know it's okay to say when you're tired, right? You have it very rough right now, after all. We can all see it."
"Well I'm a little tired," you admitted sheepishly, knowing you couldn't hide anything from them as he brought you in to hold you in his arms soon after. "But it's been going well, I promise."
"I don't doubt that." Seokjin came up from behind you to place a kiss on your head. When you looked up at him, his eyes were just as concerned as Yoongi's. "I know you're a smart girl who is stronger than anyone I've ever met, however, you must remember to not push yourself too hard."
"You often go to the extremes for others, that's why we're so worried, princess," Taehyung said.
"If it becomes too difficult to face this all on your own, you have to tell us," Jimin chimed in. "Preparing for battles is not easy but doing this as a Keeper is something beyond our own imaginations. We may not understand some things but we're right here for you, okay?"
"Once you're done with the first steps of knowing how to defend and use your powers as a Keeper, the next step is learning how we fight our wars."
"I'm sorry," Namjoon said after Hoseok, looking the most worried out of them all since he was the one to have given you the title. "This is a lot more than I thought it'd be."
"I promise I'm alright," you said with sincerity at their concern for you. You hated seeing them like that but you knew it was coming from a good place. "Learning to protect the Clans is a privilege. I'm honored to be a Keeper. I won't let you down."
"Y/N."
You turned to the sound of the last prince to speak and saw the way he stood a bit further from the rest of you, an unsettling uneasiness clear on his face as his brows furrowed while he refused to look at you at first. It was silent for a moment as you waited for Jungkook to speak.
When he finally managed to look up and meet your face, you could see how much this was affecting him and felt your heart drop at just the sight alone. Jungkook was so worried about you.
He held his hand out, eyes averting from yours again but still, you took it without hesitation, letting the youngest prince have his way with pulling you into his strong arms. You couldn't see it from where you stood just seconds ago but now that you were in his arms, you could feel the way he was trembling slightly as he held you.
"'Please," he whispered as he let his cheek rest against your head, "if it's too hard you have to let us know. You can't lie to us no matter what. If you don't want to do this anymore then just say the word and we'll take care of it. But I know that is not something you'd ever do because you are much too noble for that so please...please don't push yourself too hard for any of our sakes. If you go too far you'll hurt yourself. So this time, this time I won't let you get too far. I promise I'll uphold my words and protect you. So please rely on me. Okay?"
You knew to some extent that Jungkook worried the most out of everyone but hearing those words coming out of his mouth, feeling the slight trembling of his body, you knew how scared he was right now. So worried, so afraid.
He loved you so much so you knew you couldn't do something that would make him think you were only going to make things harder for yourself.
You stepped back just enough to face him again where you reached up to hold his face in your hand. His eyes were filled with so much grief you wished you could just take all those worries away in a blink of an eye. But it wasn't going to be that easy. Despite that, however, you knew you had to do something to ease the pain even if it meant a small dose.
"I promise, Jungkook. I won't go too far this time."
"Good." He said and buried his face against the crook of your neck, his breath shaky as he let out a sigh. "Good."
"How about this?" Witnessing that moment between the two of you, Namjoon spoke up. "You should take a break tomorrow. You've been working non-stop these past few weeks after all."
"Hm?" You turned to Namjoon with a slight confusion while Jungkook remained in your arms, refusing to let you go anytime soon. "But—"
"The clan haven't seen you in a while since you've been buried in the library almost every day since your training started. I'm sure they've missed you."
"That's right," Taehyung let out a sigh at just the reminder of the little whelps demanding him questions after questions on when they were ever going to see you again. "You know more than anyone how much those little whelps love you. They've been asking for you since the day you started your training and Haeun isn't making things any easier. She's gotten so grumpy I can't keep handling all of them on my own."
You laughed lightly upon the mention of the little ones, already picturing them complaining to Taehyung and bouncing around him for answers about you.
"Everyone knows you're working so hard right now," Yoongi stated with a firm nod. "You should take tomorrow to catch up on things and take things easy. They've all missed you."
"I suppose a day wouldn't hurt."
"Then it's settled." With that, Namjoon gave you a faint smile as he walked up to both you and Jungkook, giving you a kiss to your head before gently patting Jungkook's head. He looked up, still slightly upset about this whole thing. "Y/N's going to be okay," the leader vowed firmly. "Everyone's looking out for her."
"Mhm," you nodded with a smile. "So don't worry too much, okay?"
He took a moment to stare at the kind smile you gave him and seeing how sincere you both were, Jungkook began to look relieved as his face relaxed for the first time in a while. "Okay," he sighed with a small smile of his own. "I'm proud of you."
Your heart blossomed with love.
.
.
Two weeks later, you were to leave to meet the three clans of the North, South, and West.
Dressed in formal wear, you took a deep breath as you stared out at the view of the horizon from the mountain top, knowing this would be the first time you would be leaving the mountain and being gone for a while.
"Are you ready?" You turned at the voice of Hoseok who stood tall beside Namjoon as the two of them would be the ones to accompany you on the journey. Behind them stood the rest of the princes and the clan to bid their farewells and wait for your return. Scanning the crowd, you could see some faces of worry and decided to give them all your usual kind smile.
"I have Namjoon and Hoseok with me, you can all stop looking at me like I'm already going out for war," you said with a small laugh to lighten the dampened mood. "I will be alright," you give them the vow with confidence in order to ensure that they did not have to worry too much.
It seemed to have worked since many of their faces began to lighten up again.
"We will be waiting for your return."
"Please stay safe."
"Send word if anything goes wrong. We'll be ready for anything."
You laughed again. "You all worry too much."
"For good reason." Seokjin walked up looking slightly grumpy. "We're sending our Keeper away after all."
"They won't do anything to me, I'm just going to be meeting them so that they will know who the Keeper is," you reminded him.
"I'm surprised you can be so calm." Truthfully despite Jimin's words, you were quite worried but you knew you couldn't show that now. It wouldn't be the best thing to do knowing the clan themselves were already concerned. "You're so brave, little one."
"Mhm," you nodded at his words with a confident grin. "So trust me a little more, hm?"
"Stay safe, princess," Taehyung told you as he gently tousled your hair.
"I will."
Meeting both Namjoon and Hoseok's gaze, there seemed to be some sort of a silent conversation going on as Yoongi met their gazes before he turned to you with a small smile. "We'll be waiting for you."
"Mhm," you smiled.
"I love you," Jungkook whispered before turning to Namjoon and Hoseok. "You too," he said. "Be careful out there."
"Of course," Hoseok nodded.
"Shall we go? We must reach the Southern Clan before the sun sets." Upon those words of Namjoon's the clan tensed up again along with an odd feeling dropping along your stomach. But you knew you had to do this whether it was scary or not. It was important to the future of the clans after all.
Once both Namjoon and Hoseok transformed into their respective dragon forms, you gave the clan a formal bow of respect. "I shall return in time."
With that, you climbed onto Hoseok's back and the two of them took off riding into the sky, leaving the Eastern Dragon Clan behind.

AS SAID BY VARRIC TETHRAS  *  assorted dialogue from dragon age: inquisition
who designs a place that takes this many keys to get inside?
look at all the shit that's happened to you.
this shit is ruining my boots.
you've got to be kidding me.
i really am in the ass-end of nowhere now.
i'll take your word for it.
have we reached the stage where we gossip about each other's love lives?
we'll talk later.
nothing's stopping us from going back up.
one of those things would be impossible. all of them together? that's a miracle.
there was nothing simple about it.
you think we could take a couple of these books back with us?
my guess is another earthquake... that hits when we're halfway across the bridge.
i've had to write some letters.
no tantalizing secrets to divulge?
considering the company, i'm surprised it didn't feel longer.
does anybody else smell that? seriously? just me?
we're done here, right?
just take care of yourself.
i tried to warn you.
so it was just you, alone in the vast wilderness?
so we're getting the band back together? that's exciting.
let's try not to poke around someone else's grave, all right?
that had to hurt!
are you blushing?
let's not talk about it.
something about this place gives me the creeps.
i have no idea why places like this exist.
are we sure this is a good idea?
just because two people dislike each other doesn't mean they're about to kiss.
let's talk about your dark and troubled past.
i can almost promise you trouble when you arrive.
great place to get crapped on by a bird.
sounds like you two would have made a happy couple.
well, that screams "up to no good."
that's the seventh root i've tripped over in the last ten minutes.
i'm providing a service.
back me up!
how about dalliances? liaisons? illicit affairs?
you don't want to talk about yourself. i can respect that. so what do we talk about, then?
i'd also like to avoid falling.
i could help, you know.
i make up for it elsewhere.
are you going to blame me for that, too?
well, no one would peg you as a spy.
what? no! why would you even ask that?
let's try not to get eaten, shall we?
good spot for it. i wouldn't look here for anything.
my money's on this being a trap.
i'll keep that in mind.
maybe the locals will lend us a boat.
some things never change.
too attached to hitting things with your fists?
well, you've got to give me something.
personally i think it's some kind of compensation thing.
anybody else vote that we never come here again?
all this fresh air is making me lightheaded.
you remind me of someone.
are you all right?
i got to ask, does any of this shit make sense to you?
i'm not sure what that even means.
of course i'm concerned! i don't need you prodding me with a stick to prove it.
i hate caves.
thank you for not torturing me. i'm so much happier now.
we'll have to find another way.
how do you like being described?
poor bastards.
be still my heart. i've grown on you.
whatever it does, it's probably ancient and invaluable.
so what do we expect to find here?
you're asking me?
i'm hoping if i ignore it, it'll go away.
there's a lot of work to do.
just what we needed.
i didn't specify whose ass, did i?
you want to get shit done, right?
have you been reading the inscriptions?
it's just... all that niceness.
the only thing they seem to have in common is a tendency to burn things.
so there's a rational explanation after all.
well... that's gruesome.
where's the sneaking? the plotting? the subtle machinations?
most people are like cats. they either puff up to look dangerous or they crouch down and hope you don't see them.
it generally helps to respect local traditions now and then.
i've heard some people actually enjoy walking in the wilderness.
anyone know the name of this river?
someone remembered to bring water, right?
it's... hard to explain.
if they're busy staring at your hat, they're ignoring all your other flaws.
beg your pardon? i didn't catch that.
hm... i don't want to bore people.
how could you possibly be a spy?
ooh, that's a tough one.
look, i have to complain, or you'll forget i'm even here and trip over me!
how are you holding up? you've been quiet for a while.
i don't know what you're complaining about. you're taller than i am.
if you love a character, you give them pain, ruin their lives, make them suffer. maybe even throw in a heroic death.
you doing all right? i heard you breathing a little hard after the last fight.
no, no... that was good.
i will try my best not to do the impossible.
no argument there.
you seem the type.
you think i get any fun hanging out with them?
well, what you do doesn't make sense.
it seems like you're not having the effect you could.
keep acting like a big shot and hope it sticks.

You smiled as your gaze looked out the window, the eternal abyss staring back as it was littered with the misty colors of turquoise, lavender, and many shades of rose- stars littering the rest of the scene in front of you. You leaned your head against the metal framing of the window, your hair cushioning you comfortably as thoughts sat still in your mind, your body calm as well.
Tumblr media
How long has it been since you were on the ship?
"Hey kid, don't sleep with your neck like that- you'll mess it up" Quills voice rang out, but it sounded far away, muffled. You didn't know if it was cause of your tiredness or your spaced out state, but you couldn't seem to care by that point. You felt thick gloves move around your neck, the other moving under your knees, before a huff and some grumbling.
"I don't know what you'll do without us, but even then," He sighed, carrying your body to the closest area where you could rest properly under his gaze, on the plush rest area in the cabin, allowing him to navigate the stars while keeping you near- though he'd vehemently denied it at any and every comment about it, the Guardian had grown attached to you, finding a child in you where you found a father in him.
"I don't think I want you leaving the nest so soon."
"As we all know, poetry and language flow like the wind. There'll definitely be someone there who knows about your friends. At least, that's what Paimon thinks!" Your guide chimed, hovering in front of you as you both made your way down the side of the hill, the vibrant and thick greens of the grass and trees were only further complimented by the sun- this place definitely was beautiful. You didn't feel warm, or overheated, which surprised you, especially with how bright the sun was. The cool breeze was constant in this place, giving an Autumn chill to a Spring setting, at this rate you'd think you'd need your body suit to warm you up.
"Whether the gods actually answer you is a different story. You never know unless you try. So let's hop to it!" You can practically feel her smile, her small head turning back to you, Paimon's small body bouncing up at how you were listening to her so intently. By the time you reached the statue, she started to cross again, having the privilege of floating while you... did not.
"You can swim right over! Don't push yourself though!"
"Let's just hope I don't sink with all the gear I have... or get electrocuted." You joked, walking into the water till your hot waist level, deciding at that point swimming was best.
"W-what? Don't just jump in then!" She shouted, still loud as ever in that tiny body of hers, floating above you with a worried look on her face.
"I'm fine, I'm fine. My gear is all waterproof, so there isn't an issue there." You huffed, climbing onto the shore of the tiny island before shaking off the water and straining what you could, lightening your load as much as allowed.
        "See? All good."
"Well don't joke like that! Paimon doesn't know what she'll do if anything happens to you... Paimon doesn't even wanna think about it!" She exclaims, a hand to her head, her face still concerned. You sighed, a small smile coming to your face before you took a small hand into your own, rubbing the soft skin to soothe her.
"Alright. I'm sorry about that joke, I won't make any of those types again, alright? I'm not going anywhere. Not without you, Paimon." You smiled, sincerity in your voice, making her smile and nod her head.
"Good! Paimon’ll make sure to keep that in mind for the future."
"I'll hold you to it." You smirked, walking up to the statue, finding interest in the large golden plate. You reached out, taking the glove off your hand to get a proper feel of the metal, before taking a step back in shock. The statues' indentations lit up and aquamarine, the one you were so used to seeing outside of terrestrial planes, before a deep thump resounded in your head- much like a heartbeat. A small swirl of wind danced around the statue before the orb held in place started to glow, small particles combing in the center before forming a small sigil with wings that flew straight towards your chest.
You felt a rush of cool air through your veins, like an excitement you couldn't explain, whips of teal surrounding your body as you could only take another step back and look to your uncovered hand to see for any physical changes as well- to which there were none. But you felt something. In your chest, your heart, something that was stirring and it didn't seem to slow down.
"Ooh! Did you just feel the elements of the world?" Paimon asked, allowing you to turn and face her, your face still showing a stunned expression from... whatever that was.
"Seems all you had to do was just touch the statue and you got the power of Anemo! As much as they may want it, people in this world can never get a hold of powers as easily as you..." She explained, crossing her arms over the matter, an idea popping into your head at the same time.
"I think I might know why-"
"Ah-ha, it's because you're not from this world to begin with. If we keep heading West from here, we'll eventually reach Mondstadt, the City of Freedom. Mondstadt is the city of wind because they worship the God of Anemo." She cuts you off, making you only hum at the action, allowing her to continue.
"So perhaps, because you got the power from the God of Anemo, you can find some clues there. There are also lots of bards there, so perhaps one of them has heard news of your friends."
"That isn't a bad idea, Paimon." You smiled, thankful she was so serious and straightforward with helping you find the twins, something that seemed to be floating around in your head as you took in everything from this new world. She was like an anchor to keep you grounded, and for that, you were extremely thankful to her- beyond words.
"Let's move then!" Obviously happy with your praise at her deduction and planning, though simple, it was a good and steady start- and that's what you needed at this moment.
"The elements in this world responded to your prayers and Paimon thinks that's a lovely sign." She finished, her gaze reaching behind you as some Slimes approached, eyes wide at the intrusion by the elemental mutants. You followed her gaze, finding the flaming creatures to be bouncing right in your direction, your surprise evident on your face.
"Ah, shit." You grumbled, taking a few steps back, your arm starting to stir up with energy. It felt like when you drank too much coffee, to the point where even your limbs were vibrating, wisps of turquoise enveloping your palm on instinct. The small slime soon was sucked into the vortex you had made, swirling around before getting blasted away, back onto the land- over the lake and away from you.
"Ugh, gross." You winced, noticing the slime that coated the land in front of you, and your dominant hand. Wiping your hand, you decided it was best to swim to the other side of the lake, following Paimon as you escaped the burning grasses. You could only laugh as she huffed about wanting "cool fighting powers" as well, reaching the end of the lake and making your way further in.
"You know, it may not be a blessing. Usually powers like these have consequences..." You said, wringing out your hair as the wind started to pick up, but this time it wasn’t by your own hand.
"You shouldn't say that! These powers are a blessing from the Archons and for that you should be grateful! They'd never allow anything bad to happen to the people they've blessed with their own two hands." A low rumble started to echo through the area, making you turn your body and look around for what was causing it as you continued your talk with Paimon.
"I get that... but still, usually the Gods and whatever powerful beings there are have some type of plan along with it- at least that's how it worked in my world."
"Then maybe you should consider our world works differently?" She quips her head.
"A god is a god." You huffed, the rumbling becoming louder before a dragon caught your vision, making you gasp in awe. Six wings, four limbs, a large tail, and decorated in patterns of blues that made it almost blend with the sky if its wings didn't hold an ethereal glow, a white underbelly contrasted with the rest of its body.
"Wow! What is that? There's something huge in the sky!"
"You guys have dragons here?" You exclaimed, walking in its direction to where it flew, making sure to lower your output of noise due to the camps that were littered nearby with humanoid creatures.
"It's heading to the heart of the forest, where we're going, so make sure to be careful." Paimon notes, keeping up with your pace as you jogged into the forest, collected some things along the way that could help in the future. By the time you had reached the forest, you slowed your pace to a comfortable walk, looking around and making sure not to run into anything aggressive- or the dragon you two had just seen.
        Maybe it continued flying anyways?
"Huh? Look at that." Paimon pointed in front of the both of you, the grumbling appearing once again.
        You were wrong.
Moving to hide behind one of the larger trees, you pressed your back against it before slowly turning your head to look at the scene in front of you, still making sure to keep your noise at the bare minimum. The dragon from before was standing before you, almost cautious of the person that stood before them, a short man dressed in turquoise and white, holding his hands outward to the dragon before him.
"Don't be afraid. It's alright now, I'm back." He spoke gently, ignoring the dangerous growls coming from the beast in front of him. It made you worry at the sight and activate the mask that was embedded into your earpiece, still watching as Paimon spoke up.
"Is he talking... to a dragon?" She questioned, right as your palms lit up with the Anemo power you had just gained, a glowing pattern forming as it burst with life, alerting the dragon and scaring it away with a scream of displeasure.
"Who's there?" The man questioned as he jumped back, his gaze in your direction before taking a few steps back, disappearing in a glow of light. Your hair felt like it was about to be yanked out as the dragon flapped its wings before taking off, leaving you dazed at what had just happened, and headache from the harsh tug. You stood there in shock for a bit, not saying anything as your hand buzzed and fizzled out, focusing on calming down your heart rate- deactivating your mask to breathe better as well.
"That was close! Paimon almost got blown away!" Your guide yelped. "Luckily Paimon managed to grab a hold of your hair! Thanks." She smiled, handed over her heart, and you felt your energy drain immensely in the moment.
"Good thing you didn't pull my hair out." You sighed, rubbing the aching spot to soothe your head as Paimon continued to speak, you following closely behind.
"This definitely has something to do with that weirdo who was talking to the dragon..." She trailed off.
"Is... that normal? Talking to dragons?" You asked, confusion written on your face, wanting to know if this was a common occurrence in this world.
"Of course not. But what's that? There's some kind of shiny red thingy on the rock over there." She pointed out. You both walked over to look at the glowing item, her warnings falling on deaf ears as Paimon spoke about never seeing anything like this before, making unable to help in this specific situation.
"Let's keep this, just in case." You mumbled, your bare hands picking up the gem(?) with ease before packing it into your belt, tucked away safely and unable to escape.
"Good idea, now let's get out of here."
"Agreed." You nodded, deciding to stroll through the forest for a bit, both to rest and catch up on your thoughts, maybe ask Paimon more about this world and how it worked- so you don't seem like a bumbling idiot to the locals. But before you could do any of that, a yell came from behind you, rushed footsteps following at the same time.
"You there! Stop right there!" A girl yelled, jumping across your field of vision off the small pass, dressed in red and white with long brown hair, rolling as she hit the ground before coming back up to a stand.
        "..."
        "Are you fucking kidding me?"

COMPLETED: Breath of Fire 3
Tumblr media
It is done. God is dead. Well...a self-proclaimed god. While we cheated, my son and I did beat the game...and, despite this being one of my favorite RPGs, it's uh...my first time "beating" it.
So! We crossed the desert into the futuristic city that now lies in ruins and took the elevator up to the Myria Orbital station. It's, uh, a space station connected to the earth by an elevator shaft...I guess. Concept Art
After all the wandering about, I was pretty ready to meet "God" and get this over with--but it's the finale, so they had to make it count. We wandered about, trying to feel our way around the "space station". Eventually, we found a room I had forgotten about...it had electrified floors. To un-electrify them, there are three consoles. Each console has a pattern of negative and positive signs on a grid. You have to get the three patterns to over-lap so that the postive-negative charges cancel each other out. But with three panels, you run into issues of two positives and one negative occupying the same space: thus it stays electrified.
Clever idea: yes. Fun idea: no.
One console is in the room with the floor, and the other two consoles are in a completely different room, separated by a 30 second walk not counting the one or two random battles you're likely to get. I got really frustrated, and my son went and told my wife: "That game is making daddy nuts!"
Anyway, I figured it out and moved on. This required a boss fight (easy enough cause we're cheating), which got us a keycard and special plant-killing shells for Momo. Going back to the other wing of the station, Momo uses the special shells to blow up plant vines blocking the door (not unlike a puzzle in Resident Evil 2...).
I think beyond this, we find a labyrinth of utility hallways. I had to back track a few times. Eventually we get to an indoor garden.
FLASHBACK: (not in the game, but mine)
Back when I first tried to play this game, I defeated every challenge thrown at me. I think I did have the guide to the game, but it was mostly used to help me through some sticky parts (and look at the cool art!). I made it to the final dungeon (Myria Station) but struggled to beat the final boss.
As a matter of fact. I never beat the final boss.
I needed to be a higher level. To reach that level, I did some grinding in the garden area. Mostly, you fight Plant 42s, which I loved since it was a reference to the mutated Resident Evil plant. But it shocked me to see that the exp was about 800, when there are fights elsewhere in the station that land closer to the 2k range. Surely that would have been more effective leveling?
Either way--I just never got strong enough to win the final boss.
BACK TO PRESENT:
We find Teepo here. Jack and Rei are surprised as hell! My son was excited, cause we all thought Teepo was dead. Turns out, Teepo is also a dragon, just like Jack. But instead of wandering the world with Garr and Nina, he joined the Goddess Myria who convinced him that his powers were dangerous. So he surrendered himself to her and is now her brain-washed lapdog, more or less.
Teepo causes Ryu to go into a weird dream (which we had to play twice due to game-freeze). Here, Ryu is exposed to the thoughts and anxieties of his party members. This is supposed to convince him to surrender his power like Teepo, but it doesn't.
Nina apparently struggles to please her mother by being a good, respectable princess while also trying to be herself and pursue her own sense of justice: such as helping Ryu and saving Rei!
Rei...I guess is concerned about his own power as Weretiger. Mostly, he just seems to want to help his old friend?
Garr wants to reconcile why he was ordered to kill hundreds of dragons, especially then they easily could have defended themselves--but they didn't.
Momo wants to understand all the advanced tech here, and how it could be used to better the world.
Peco is apparently the fucking tree of Yggdrassil in mobile form, and wanders about with thousands of years worth of world-knowledge, but can't communicate it to the team cause he doesn't speak English.
So anyway, Ryu doesn't relent and Teepo must be defeated. He dies and turns into a purple dragon. Rei and Ryu are sad, but yo--dick move.
Next, we have to find our way to Myria. First, there's this confusing 3 level maze of boss rooms that have you fighting past bosses, sometimes several at a time. It was annoying, and my son was done with it. WE JUST WANT TO MEET GOD!
Once through, we find a super sci-fi, futuristic room with holograms explaining Myria's intentions. The advanced world was being consumed by sand. My guess is that pollution made that world self destructive. Myria led her people to a greener, more flourishing land and then built a giant ocean between them to stop the sands. She also made the ocean very dangerous so the humans wouldn't return. Some how, she feared the power of the dragons would bring about another sand-issue, so she had them killed to save humans.
Now, this seems like a Lost scenario where Myria is no God, and likely didn't actually build any oceans. Instead, she helped people escape their self-destructive technology, and then controlled people's knowledge of tech so they wouldn't repeat past mistakes. So basically, she kept building machines and letting them fall in the ocean so they'd wash up on shore (Steel Beach). This allowed people to use machines a little, but not "make" machines.
I think she really feared dragon power as a threat to her own power, and wanted them out of the equation since they didn't submit to her rule. Since she martyred herself as a savior of humans, she felt justified in her genocide.
Ryu chooses whether to help her or fight her. But she warns that fighting her would mean facing the desert without her protection. Warning that holds little merit in my mind, cause she's a liar.
So we fought her. We defeated her.
The space station starts to crumble. Garr decides he's completed his journey and turns to stone like the other guardians. Everyone else escapes. Myria prays to God, asking, "If there is a God..." revealing that she was playing a part and did not actually know shit (like Jacob in Lost).
Afterwards, Ryu is seen joining his friends at a cliff overlooking a desert: fade to black.
Despite the many deviations the story takes for the sake of taking up time, I really enjoy this game. The world is well defined and the characters are good. Even the villains often have empathetic motivations, or perspectives that make you doubt your first conclusions. The game also tackles a variety of concepts that are morally challenging and deals with death and sacrifice in meaningful ways. It led to great conversations between my son and I. The last leg of the game is a bit tedious and shallow. I understand why they felt compelled to make it "bigger", but they used up most of their plot early on.
We cheated. We had infinite health and all that. Basically, we just killed all the grinding and retries. The game has a great story and fun mini games (and the sound track is fucking amazing!) so I don't think much is lost by skipping the tedious random battles and leveling up. If that's something you want as part of your experience, go for it.
It's just, for RPGs like this, the best things about them are story, characters, mini-games, puzzles, and exploring. The fighting is fine, and expected, but it shouldn't take up 70% of your play time when it's really only about 10% of the fun (if that).
So I feel no shame in cheating.
My son wants to play Breath of Fire 4 now. I'm excited to revisit this one (I actually beat it before (no cheating))!

The flight back was tiring. In fact, both Sapphire and Beansprout got so tired that you and Jin decided to camp in the forest for one night. The part of the woods where you're camping is not too far off the border between the Spring forest and the Death Valleys, yet it's also not anywhere close to the Lava Volcanoes border', where the Phoenix and Dragon Tribes are stationed.
You and Jin are currently seated around a make shift camp fire, tough both Jin and Sapphire weren't very keen on sleeping outside, they needed rest too and luckily that got them to stop from complaining. You were laid against Beansprout's side, who was laying on the ground for once. His tail is wrapped around the two of you and his head is in your lap, snoozing away while you draw patterns in his black green-like reptile skin.
Jin and Sapphire are in a similiar position on the other side of the campfire. Sapphire laid down while Jin's leaning against her side.
You swipe a hand over the fire to keep it going.
" Why were you so set on teaching me all the way by the Atlantic Ocean? I'm sure that there's big forests on the other side of the forest too." Jin asks you at a random point.
You nod.
" That's true. But I tough I'd be easier to trigger your connection in it's raw form. The Death Valleys are native for venomous type' dragons, it's what helped me feel the connection with Beansprout's magic easier." You tell him.
He nods.
" What was that like?" He asks curiously.
" What was what like?" You ask confused.
" Living in the death valleys. I can't even imagine. I don't think that I'd be able to live as close as we were to the sea today either." He tells you.
You shrugg.
" I never really got used to the Death Valleys if I'm honest. I just didn't have much of a choice back then. That's why Beansprout and I chose to go to the Dragon Tribe." You tell him.
" It's really cool tough. Would you have joined the Dragon Tribe if you were part of a smaller tribe or village or lived near one of those?" He asks curiously.
You ponder over it before shaking your head.
" I don't know. But most probably not. It was a pain in the ass to get stuff like clothes in the Death Alleys. Not just because the markets are far away from there, but also because I didn't exactly have a job there so I didn't have money to buy anything either." You say.
He nods again, about to say something before his eyes spot something behind you. Whatever it is he spotted must've looked intimidating, as Sapphire stood up and puffed her feathers up, trying to appear bigger.
" H-ey, Y/N? Remember how you said that not all evil looking things are as evil as they appear to be?" Jin suddenly stammered out.
You nodded, your brows furrowed in concern. Beansprout suddenly stood up too, awoken by whatever presence was nearing behind you. You grabbed your sheated sword before turning around.
Your eyes widen in suprise and fear at the sight that greets you. Behind your little group is one of the largest creatures you've ever seen. A huge skeleton like creature with long skimpy bones, who's head is barely as tall as the top of the trees. It's got shining golden eyes and was looking straight in your direction.
" Okay, um, I'm gonna be honest. I have no idea. These type of creatures don't near people often. In fact, this is the first time I've ever seen anything like it. The only thing I know is that if it wants to attack us, we're most probably doomed." You tell him shakily.
Beansprout starts pushing you back near Jin and Sapphire as the Necro suddenly nears the two of you. It's tall, lanky legs cover for tall strides, even if it does move a little slow.
Beansprout unfolds his wings and holds his head up high, also appearing to look intimidating as Sapphire does the same. You meep as you're suddenly pulled behind Jin's broad back when the Necro bends down.
You're unsure on what to do. Should you yield your sword or not?
" Jin, let me-"
" No. I'm not stupid Y/N. I know that you're trying to protect me for if it wants to start a fight, but considering you can't beat it either, let me try to handle this." He tells you calmly.
You look unsure at the part of his face you can see, but let him.
The Necro points out a long bony finger, which nears all of you, until it touches Jin's forehead.
When Jin blinks, there's suddenly a yellow orange light shining from his eyes, the same light the Necro's eyes shine.
You're now even more unsure what to do. You glance at Sapphire, who's calmly looking at the Necro, a sign that he's not hurt, and so you decide to do nothing.
After a moment the Necro moves away from him again, and stands back up to it's full height. Jin blinks a few times before he widens his eyes and turns to you.
" We- we have to go. Now." He tells you before grabbing the little things you've braught with you.
The Necro must've been pleased with what it's heard as it moves back to it's own bussiness.
" Hey, calm down. What's going on?" You ask confused.
" The Necro showed me a vision. The tribes are under attack."
[ A/N: I'm slowing down my updates sorry. Also, this is the Necro creature :
Tumblr media
It's not an actual mythical creature like most are out of my story, lol. Also these type of arts are called Visual Necromancy and I've got the pic off Pinterest.

"Leave me alone!"  Lucy yelled as she jerked away from Miss Alexander's reach. "God, can you people not be prison wardens for like five minutes?! Fuck"
"Lucy!"
The teenager ignored her superior and stir.ed to her class, taking her seat. The Language Arts teacher raised her eyebrows but continued with the lesson, choosing not to fight the battle today. It was Monday and everyone hated Monday's. Especially Chris who was now making his way toward the classroom. He entered, apologizing to the teacher for interrupting, and asked Lucy to join him in the hallway. Lucy ignored him, hoping he'd just leave and glared from underneath her hair covered face as he approached desk.
"I'm not asking this time. Get up."
Again, the girl didn't reply. Chris sighed,  hating what was to come next. All part of the job, but the riskiest part. Chris stood behind her desk and reached his arms under hers, pulling her up from her desk. She didn't fight him, instead she became dead weight, forcing him to drag her out into the hallway. Waiting for them was the principal, the vice principal,  and the school counselor.
"Lucy, you were asked repeatedly to remove your hood. You know the rules. No head coverings of any kind inside the school."
"Are you gonna make Inya take her headscarf off?" Lucy grumbled
"That's different. She has religious exemption."
"Well I have exemption too under the fact that I don't want to."
"Lucy."
Chris was behind her and his voice made her aware of his presence, her stance instantly becoming defensive.
"Take your hood off and drop the attitude."
"Or what Chris?" Lucy turned toward him, her tone aggressive "You gonna take me down? Cuff me and break my arm?"
"That's not...have you been reading the news again?"
"No, but all you cops are the same."
Chris pinches the bridge of his nose.
"Just one day, please, could you not be difficult? I was in the middle of a-"
"Fine!"
Lucy's sudden scream made the adults jump, taken aback, but not Chris. He remained calm, watching the girl as she reached up and yanked the hood away from her face and pushed her hair away. Soft gasps littered the air as the bruises on Lucy's face and neck were revealed.
"Lucy, what happened? Are you alright?" Ms Broman, the counselor, asked
"Oh, now you care?! Five minutes ago you didn't give a shit why I was wearing my hood, you just wanted me to comply to your stupid rules."
She glared at the women before turning to glance up at Chris.
"Well?"
Chris didn't know what to say. He was shocked, which surprised him. He always had a feeling that something was going on at home, but seeing the proof shook his core.
"We should go to my office." Ms Broman suggested
"I just want to go back to class."
"Lucy, we should talk about this." Chris managed to say
"Talk about what? I got my ass kicked this weekend, big deal. I just want to do my work."
"Who did this? Was it a student?"
"No."
"Your father?"
"Why can't you people leave me alone?!" Lucy cried, pushing past the staff and running up the hallway.
They were dumbfounded, all standing there looking at each other as they wondered what to do next.
"I'll talk to her, figure this out." Chris sighed
"Good. She listens to you." Ms Broman nodded in agreement "We're really going to miss the Lucy Whisperer when you leave."
Chris chuckled before they dispersed. He knew where Lucy would be hiding and sure enough he found her in his office, curled in the saucer chair, her hood pulled tight over her head.
"Luce?" Chris sat on the edge of his desk "You ok, kiddo?"
"I'm fine."
"Who hurt you?"
No response.
"Lucy? Did your dad do this?"
Nothing.
"I can't help you if you don't talk to me."
"Ha!" Lucy's laugh dripped with sarcasm "Help? How can you help? Call the child services people?"
"I'm required by law to call them if there's a child that needs-"
"Needs what? An even worse ass beating? You think this is the first time something like this has happened? Every time some grownup tells me they're going to help, then they call the cops. Cops come, old man gets out of trouble, and I get it ten times worse. So why don't you help by minding your business."
Chris spent the rest of the day trying to convince Lucy to let him make the call but she begged and pleaded until he relented and raises his hands.
"Fine. I could lose my job, you know."
"Just say you took care of it."
Chris couldn't sleep that night. Every time he  closed his eyes all he could see was Lucy and the bruises. Guilt laid heavy in him and he knew he should make the call but he also knew how much damage it could do. The judicial system was so backwards, and the department of family and children services didn't like to take kids out of their homes,  even with solid proof. The next morning Chris went into the school feeling like a zombie and he was sure that his unkempt hair and baggy eyes showed that he had a rough night. Instead of going to his office he went to the hallways, looking for Lucy. He found her trying to threaten another kid into giving her his breakfast but she stopped when she saw Chris.
"Hey, kiddo. You okay?"
She jerked away from him, ignoring his question and storming off to her class. The entire day went by without a word from Lucy's teachers, and he didn't know if he should be worried or relieved. As he finished up a last minute document for the ROTC speech he was giving the next day,  a knock on his door caused him to stop.
"Come in."
Ms Broman walked in with concern written across her usually cheerful expression.
"Have a seat. Is everything okay?"
"No, not really. Lucy's current situation is alarming."
"Certainly."
"I asked around for a bit of Intel on her and I'm not liking what I'm hearing. She refused to write an assignment last week, which you know isn't like her, about her family. Did you know that throughout the entire school year she's not once eaten a meal here?"
"I didn't know that."
"I asked the lunch staff and it turns out there's not a dime in her account. Hasn't been all year. Students say that she threatens them for food."
"Explains this morning." Chris thought to himself as he processed the information "What do we know about her parents? Anything?"
"I pulled her file, she moved her over summer, her mother died four years ago. No one has ever seen or talked to the father."
"Past records from the previous schools?"
"That only shows her grades and any incidents. There weren't any alarming ones, but she did get suspended in middle school for selling slime on campus."
"Slime? That doesn't seem like something she'd do."
Chris made a few notes and finished his conversation with the counselor. He went home for the day, still unable to focus on anything other than Lucy.
The next morning he was surprised to see Lucy waiting for him in front of his office door, arms crossed.
"Good morning." He greeted her with a soft smile as he unlocked the door and gestured for her to come in "How are you today?"
"Cut the shit, Chris." She spat, glaring at him "You're the fakest person I've ever met, you know that?"
"What do you mean?" Chris took a sip of his coffee as he looked at her
Lucy uncrossed her arms and waved the flier she had been holding in his face
"Goodbye Rally? You want to explain?"
"The school wants to hold a goodby for me on Friday.  Not my kinda thing, but not my choice."
"So you're leaving?"
"I am. I had to get a new job that works better for my schedule."
"Were you planning on telling me?"
"Oh, you care?"
"Fuck you."
Tears filled Lucy's eyes, her face red with frustration.
"Lucy…"
"It's because of me isn't it?"
"What? No, Luce, that's not it at all"
"Then why?! Why leave somewhere you're needed? These kids, the ones you mentor, the ROTC kids you work with. They need you."
Chris frowned, his gut feeling as if it had been punched. He didn't want to leave his job at the high school, but if he ever wanted to finish his night classes and get his counseling degree, he had to.
"They're bringing in a new resource officer. I know her and she'll do a gild job with everyone."
"You can't leave." Tears streamed down Lucy's face "Please. I promise I won't cause any more trouble, I won't talk back or cuss ever again."
"Lucy, this has nothing to do with you."
"You don't care, do you? This is just a paycheck for you, you don't care what happens to us. Fucking liar."
Chris started to reply but was cut off by Lucy balling up the flier and throwing it in his face. She stormed out, slamming the door closed behind her. Chris sat down in his chair and buried his face in his hands, groaning.
