^^^
Those are the words of Cassie herself. Yes, the same person who wrote the books. If she can accept that books are entirely upto the interpretation of the readers and as she says “no two readers ever quite read the same book,” my question is, why is it so hard for u to understand?
Because, man, we all got opinions. I respect yours and I expect you to respect mine.
But us saying heronstairs has potential IS NOT baseless, against logic or textual reference??? There are so many scenes where jem and will behave romantically,,,, it's so clear from their affection. U may say we are just desperate gays but u know the truth, if one of them was woman, people like you would've drooled over this ship
Umm actually no. And Here's why:
Canon
▪️First and foremost, Will and Jem consider and call each other brother every couple of lines. Even in their own heads. This -for most people - isn't an invitation for romance.
▪️Both have also never noticed each other sexually or romantically or took note of any man ever
▪️In fact the both only ever think (because we got to see their pov) romantically or sexually about women or consider only women as potential love interests
▪️Like Cassie explained once when asked why some ppl think heronstairs is romantic. It's because the language of the victorian era sounds romantic
▪️Antoher factor you need to take in their sexualities. If a gay man and a (gay) woman had "romantic behavior" - yet somehow considered each other siblings lol idek with you ppl - no one would ship them unless they were "desperate straights" aka none lol. This post is about explaining how it IS textually baseless but i felt i needed to add this.
Moreover,
I would like to give you a few examples of soem the romantic behavior some of you think you see in heronstairs.
Within tid
"Jem is my greatest sin".
Probably the most common heronstairs quote. Alone, this quote might sound romantic.
In reality this is actually a horrible quote. This quote is actually said from Will to Magnus. The. Cintext is Magnus wonder how Will who distance himself from all bond, familial lile his parents and sister, romantic and from all friemdship woupd be friends and parabatai with Jem. and Will says that it's because Jem was dying. He used Jem's impending death as an excuse ti be friends with him. Since Jem is going to die anyway Will figured his cure won't do much worse. And that's a horrible thing for Will to do. Will's greatest sin is using his best friends illness to endanger him to a curse.
"if there is a life after this one, let me meet you in it, James Carstairs"
I don't even know why I should explain this. And I don't think I should. If asked I will tho
“For five years it had been his absolute truth. Jem and Will. Will and Jem. Will Herondale lives, therefore Jem Carstairs lives also.”
I feel lile this should all be lsited under the use of victorian english. But to make you see it in prespective. Here is a direct quote from Will to Cecily his sister
“Then what am I?” Cecily asked.
Will exhaled, too exasperated to check himself. “You are my weakness.”
Betcha if this was a heronstairs quote you'd be having a field day. I mean this is pretty "romantic behavior" from Will and Cecily too I guess?
..................
After tid
Bane Chronicles, Whitechapel fiend. Jem covers Will with a blanket.
Again quote odd that some ppl think covering a sleeping person with a blamket is romantic behavior. I can assure you most siblings have done it, parents have done, freidns have done it. It's like sayinf hugging someone when they are crying is romantic.. It's part of the reason why the whole ship is funny at this point.
City of Lost Souls,
Ah, another famous one.
I have to say, that even if all of the above wasn't true. Usually if an "ambiguous" quote happens in a book amd right after the characters im their own heads describe each other as siblings that should be enough lol. Harry and Hermione except their sexualities wouldn't work
..........................................................
The Author of canon
No matter how you may feel about cc. She knows what's canon because she created canon.
Here are a few of the times where she explicitly denied heronstairs as well as comfirmed Will and Jem's sexuality being, obviously, heterosexual.
I would also recommend checking this thread for many other times Cassie has debunked heronstairs here:
You might nitpick and say
"But like @sugardaddyjem said Cassie shared heronstairs art. She COMMISIONED IT"
Actually no. All gay heronstairs art was NOT commissioned by Casse. Heronstairs art was published by Cassandra Jean on her blog.
Here is where Cassandra Jean says it was not commissioned.
Cassie shared SOME of the heronstairs art with captions like #AU #SLASH #awpoorWill ahah.
The only one Cassandra Clare commisiomed was a friendly garden chat in which Will and Jem talk and Will falls asleep, it was requested by fans when the made November tenth a heronstairs day.
Cassandra Clare also shared many other au art including one of Simon and Raphael. Who as we know Simon is straight and Raphael is asexual.
Extra debunks
Cassandra never said they would be poly in the after life or if they were all alive, as in gay polyamory lmaoooo. She said Tessa might give it a TRY and date both at the same time. In that same post cassie actually references an article about. Some women taking many men as lovers in the victorian era lol. How you feel about that is up to you.

Wow. Ok, my apologies, I did not know that was what she had actually said. But then again isn't the whole point of fanfiction to make up stories that are not canon so fans can see it how they want to?
I mean, Harmione shippers exist? And it has been cannonically said they see each other as siblings??
I choose to interpret their relationship as romantic and I don't think that is any of your business. Yes, I know that family doesn't have to be blood, if u choose to see them as brothers by all means, go on, u have the free will to do so. U didn't have to reply to a post that was so clearly talking about a pairing you're not into, ignoring doesn't take much energy.
I don't see how who I choose to ship or not concerns u in any way???
Can y’all TID veterans rec me some good heronstairs fics? preferably completed? and not Tessa/Will/Jem

@dracarysjon Parabatai, not brothers. Also, the author (Cassandra Clare), herself has said that were they alive in a more progressive and modern society, Tessa, Will and Jem would have been in a 3-way relationship. Implying that they were definitely in love with each other, but just didn’t have a chance to realize their feelings because of the societal norms of that time.
I understand why you might not want to ship them, but I do and I only ask that u respect that :D

Please reblog and spread the news. This is yet another murder and we need to fight for him, fight for justice for him and every other Black person out there.
JUSTICE FOR CASEY GOODSON
On December 4th, 2020, Casey Christian Goodson Jr. (23 years old) was shot three times in the back and murdered by a Sheriff’s Deputy as he was entering his home in Columbus, Ohio. Goodson’s family stated that he was returning home from a dentist appointment, holding a Subway sandwich, his face mask, and his keys, when he was shot.
Two days later, the Columbus Police Department made a statement alleging that James Meade, the deputy responsible for Goodson’s death, saw a man believed to be Goodson with a gun while driving. Meade then approached Goodson after he exited his car and walked home, where he was shot.
Hours after the shooting, the US Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio, Peter Tobin, confirmed that Goodson was not the fugitive they were searching for. However, Tobin also added that he believed that the shooting was justified, claiming that Goodson was shot after he refused to drop his “weapon.”
Yet another Black man murdered by the police.
DEMAND JUSTICE.
