YTT is a Pyramid Scheme

Yoga teaching has become a pyramid scheme. The only way to "make it" is by training new teachers.

Your initial investment is the cost of yoga teacher training, usually several thousand dollars. Once you graduate, you can only get a few classes a week, and they pay so little, you can't live off it alone, so you must work another job while getting started.

It's virtually impossible to live off teaching classes alone. So what do you do? Teach more extravagant classes like retreats, or teach yoga teachers.

Most will make the initial investment and never earn it back. Maybe you continue to teach some classes, but it's a labor of love because you will not be paid anything substantial for it.

All the while, your labor brings in money for the studios so they can host the retreats and teach more teachers. The whole thing funneling money upward.

I am not condemning anyone for participating in this system. I did a teacher training and it was extremely beneficial for my life. There are also great yoga teachers and studio owners out there who have little choice but to participate in this system.
