I kind of want to throw my entire novel concept out the window because I dislike world-building.

Phullo it is I again!
I am very glad that you actually responded and given me an actual advice since I was worried about the question I sent you.
Though besides that I have another question for you (hoorayyy)!
So, about the reading books earlier- I’m fortunately a bookworm too! It’s just that I notice I prefer reading the genre science fiction/psychological horror more than… anything else!
And while the books I am currently reading, ‘Flowers For Algernon’ and ‘I’m Thinking Of Ending Things’ (these books are seriously so wonderfully made they make want to tear my walls), DO have romantic aspects of it- it’s not really the main plot of the story..
‘Flowers For Algernon’ has amazing storytelling and is very unique- though I’m not sure if you’ve read it before but, it’s actually just the main character taking notes. Hence why there was a lot misspellings which honestly makes it a great touch if you know the context behind it.
On the other hand, ‘I’m Thinking Of Ending Things’ too shares the same uniqueness as the other, possibly even more unique if I must say so myself. Though I REALLY don’t want to make my story similar to them since I want to make it more heart warming than fucked up..
Which is why I feel like I have the need to borrow or buy at least one romantic book because, I lack of it. I mean I accidentally borrowed it one time but it was kind of disappointing.
I don’t know if its a good idea and if I should do it or not since does it really matter of the genre, or just the writing?
Still, if you have any good books that are in the romance genre. Feel free to recommend some to me!
-lots of love, from another bookworm
welcome back! happy to hear you're a bookworm as well <3 im writing those titles down since i read a criminal lack of sci-fi despite loving it
i actually don't have any straight up romance recs - i don't actively search it out (outside of fanfic), so any romance i read just comes with whatever book i've picked up. just straight up romance bores me, unless its a fic with a pairing i actively like. and even then, i need to take breaks from it unless the romance is interspersed with an actual plot. im not a romantically-geared person! i dont have single Main Plot Is Romance book on my shelves!
but imo its really just the quality of writing that helps. ive never been in a romance, im the child of two different divorces, and yet ive been told that i write romance fairly well. go fuckin figure lmao.
so actually my advice on romance is to just like. wow idk what i do is pick apart the romances i see on tv / in writing. what makes them good together, how do they act around each other, what are their love languages, what's their dynamic, what traditional romance things do they partake in, what dont they partake in, do they have anything nontraditional, do they work and why do / they dont they - does that make their relationship more interesting or is it flat. are they a good match.
you don't have to have every answer, but ive found that at least understanding their characters / dynamics, and having them interact in a way that suits them will help your romance feel natural. dont conform to tropes or tradition, that will just make the relationship flat and unrealistic. and you can always sprinkle in little things that you like / would like, which will help ground the romance and get you into the groove
tldr with romance, i think it's better to observe real life (whether that's paying attention to couples or reading reddit threads) & analyze in-love or in-a-relationship characters instead of just reading romance novels. bc honestly, and from what i can tell, they can tend to be over the top or cookie cutter
just realized you did not explicitly ask for romance advice! Oopsie! i got a little carried away here....

Hey, hope you're doing well! Had a couple questions for you if they're not too personal:
1. Whats your favourite story you've written so far? Is it something public? Is it finished?
2. Do you have any long form non-interactive fiction you've written that's available to read? I would genuinely kill to read something like that from you
hi :-) ohh these are fun...
my favorite story is probably My NovelTM which isn't finished yet, i've written a first draft and now it's just been languishing until i can find the motivation to start a second draft. i finished the first draft in august i think, and started editing it pretty heavily before i realized i was just going to have to rewrite the whole thing again. i'm mostly having trouble with the ending, which always seems to be my problem lmfao... anyways it follows the relationship of Angel and Valerie, after Valerie has been missing for a few months and suddenly returns as a vampire with no memory of Angel or what happened over the months while she was away. it alternates between both their povs in both present day and through flashbacks.
so unfortunately for your second question, no, but i do hope to publish Angel and Valerie's story one day, either traditionally through a small press (lol here's hoping) or by self-publishing it. otherwise my only published work is what's available on my itch.io (siren's call, one day hike, etc)
i am working on a short story for vampire jam, which i'll hopefully be sharing next month. it's still in the form of interactive fiction, published in twine, but it's more of a short story than anything like blood choke or tnp. i also have a butch cowboys and zombies story i've been working on for a while, but i'm not sure when i'll get around to finishing it since it's not a priority project.
i do want to write another novel as well, a very old story i've been kicking around for years, but as usual i haven't been able to come up with an ending for it... but maybe one day.

trying to formulate my opinions on The Spot by holding my sister as a captive audience while i loudly rant around her apartment
#it is a cold fucking day in hell when i let a middleaged white man take credit for a black teenager’s accomplishments and choices.#i don’t care if he’s fictional#i can’t believe some of you are eating what he’s saying. if we’re rejecting miguel o’haras idea of destiny then why are we accepting#this monologue from a dumbass who can’t accept that he’s the way that he is because of his own fucking choices#you CHOSE to work for those labs YOU CHOSE not to evacuate sooner#he couldn’t have predicted what happened next. but don’t pretend you didn’t choose this#anyone can be spiderman but miles had to CHOOSE this#your fake ass had nothing to do with his leap of faith in the first movie…#miles is made of everyone he has ever loved and respected#fuck this destiny nonsense. the spot sees Miles spark and CHOOSES to mold himself into its shadow in a desperate bid#to feel like his miserable life has any meaning#he’s a threat he’s a narrative foil he’s got the insane visuals to mirror miles. but he is NOT destiny incarnate.#the next movie is going to be about Miles rejecting The Spot as much as he rejects O’haras rules#he said it himself he’s sick of other people telling him what his story’s supposed to be about#damn what is it about writing in the tags that makes things more cohesive.#across the spiderverse spoilers#atsv spoilers#spiderverse spoilers#pizzazz meta#edit: for the record i think The Spot is a great villain and i do appreciate what he does for the narrative#but i dont believe him like i believe in miles

I am blocking on sight anyone that puts any fucking discourse over "moral" fiction or whatever the fuck on my dash. I have blocked 5 people in the last month. I don't care if I've been a mutual with you for years, if you engage in this kinda shit, especially on the side of believing that certain fiction shouldn't be allowed, then you are someone I have no respect for.
Unless someone is actually straight up committing a crime (I.E., posting *actual* photographs or videos of REAL LIFE PEOPLE, not fictional/drawn people, REAL PEOPLE, being harmed/sexually abused) I Do Not Care what other people read or write or watch or make. I Do Not Care. I do not trust anyone else's, especially on the piss on the poor website, to be able to determine if a text is "glorifying" something or if they are just uncomfortable with the subject as a whole. You people all suck at media comprehension and I am just flatly not interested. I keep seeing posts of people making good points and then people ripping them apart in the most bad faith possible. "Someone else's media consumption doesn't hurt you" "yes except for when abuse is portrayed as love, or-" no. shut the fuck up. You Missed The Point. You DO NOT KNOW, and you CAN NOT KNOW, why someone else wrote or created something nor can you know why anyone chose to engage with it. Also, sometimes the fucking point of a story is to portray something bad as good, to serve a narrative purpose. that doesn't mean the author thinks it IS.
I Do Not Care about icky feelings. If you can't tell fiction from reality, that's a you problem. Leave us writers/artists the fuck out of it. And if your knee-jerk reaction to this is "oh, you're just making excuses For The Freaks" you are part of the problem and I also have no respect for you.
FWIW, I am an abuse survivor and I find everyone's moral panic over shitty fanfiction stupid at best and upsetting at worst. You people freak out over fictional bad things happening to fictional people, to the point you waste the resources and time of people that actually hunt down predators by sending them loli fanart? You make me feel like you care about fictional people more than you care about the victims. Also, you'll be fucking fine if you hear about weird art or fic happening. Just don't fucking read it yourself. But knowing it exists won't fucking hurt you. You know what does hurt you? ACTUAL ABUSE. Like the kind so many of the creators you demonize go through, bc like I said before, you can't know why people make the art they make and you certainly can't know whether someone's a victim or not. And people shouldn't HAVE to disclose their victim status for you to make sure you're only attacking the "acceptable" people.
Maybe just don't fucking attack people over some fucking fanfiction or fanart. period. go the fuck outside.
You crave ruthless, vindictive justice more than you crave to help people. You are after the high of feeling good about putting people down, the "right" people.
And I Have No Respect For You.
#discourse#fanfiction#fic discourse#ao3#ao3 discourse#Hopefully this is the only post I make about it#bc anyone that tries to argue with me is just getitng blocked and their comments removed#I Do Not Care. Make it easier on me so I can make sure I'm only interacting with adults that understand how fiction works#and to be blunt. I understand most of the people writing this shit are teenagers#and god forbid kids younger than that#and to that I say#why the hell are you in this discourse to begin with. stop looking up weird shit on ao3. stop talking to people online that talk to you#about kinky fanfic and fanart. them exposing you to this to rile you up is what's weird.#not people talking about it or doing it but that your online space is encouraging YOU as a child to do so#people should just be intelligent and not share certain shit with children but people are assholes and online is a hellscape#block anyone that constantly exposes you to outrageous fanart or fanfic just to show you how 'terrible' it is#especially if they're an adult! bc they should know better!! you shouldnt be worrying about this shit this young#Carving your own space on the internet goes two ways. Im not saying you can't DISLIKE weird fanfic or fanart. just don't make it everyone#else's problem. block tags#block users#and move on#and if you are over the age of 20 and you feel it is your moral duty to go on a crusade against shitty or dumb fanfic/fanart#maybe consider why that is. and maybe leave kids less than 15 years old the fuck out of it you fucking dipshit#What worries me is literal children contemplating if all the adults around them are fucking pedos. that's the bullshit mindset discourse#addled adults encourage and that's what makes MY blood boil#anyway Ill shut up now. Im just upset at having to block yet another mutual bc they reblogged stupid fic discourse shit

the idea that X is the only Reploid that can cry is an interesting plot point actually...
“No one was supposed to get hurt.” they said. “The shock bomb was meant to disable the Reploid so we could address our concerns. We didn’t expect a human to-”
“Care?”
The simple word made the human take a step back. Their dumbfounded confusion only boiled X’s blood further.
“You didn’t expect a human to care.” he reiterated with a lot more force. “That’s what you mean, isn’t it?”
“I-“ they fumbled. “I…”
What finally got them to stop babbling was when they saw something glistening at the corner of X’s eye. That single drop formed and fell down his cheek so naturally, that the human was dead awestruck.
“You’re crying.”

Not pro/anti ship but a secret third thing (side eyeing ppl with ships i dont like and block them/the tag if it makes me uncomfortable)
#shut up pandora#wtf is pro and anti SHIP anyway#you cant come up with a universal definition everyone will agree on#'no problematic ships' ok can you write a manifesto on every nuance of shipping in fiction to describe what exactly is problematic#and then can you get everyone who says 'no problematic ships' to agree with it#'no censorship/harassment' is noble and all but what do you mean by that? when ppl tell you they dislike your ship?#when i say i dislike the huntlow ship 80 shippers go for the throat and tell me either to either make sure it doesnt end up in the tags#or tell me not to say it at all. in a post that isnt even blind hate like i always talk about their characters and the story too#is that censorship?#and then 20 ppl trip over themselves to explain why THEY PERSONALLY like the ship even if i didnt ask#is that harrassment?#or is that just ppl online being obnoxious about their opinions and theres no need to moralize the concept of shipping#which has been around in its semi modern form since the 60s#you can be pro or anti SPECIFIC SHIP though i dont use that term bc of the associations with the words pro and anti#but moralizing an entire aspect of fandom culture generalizes too much#the truth is theres no cheat code to avoid drama in fandom you cant just slap a lable on yourself and expect everyone to know what you mean#you cant just say im anti ship and be absolved of liking 'problematic content' bc the definition of that is blurry as hell#you can just say im pro ship and universally supoort every person shipping weird shit you gotta draw the line somewhere#and while you shouldnt harass them the definition for that is blurry too#gotta curate your own online experience block ships and ppl you dont like etc#pro and anti is just a line in the sand that separates a whole spectrum of ppl

will we be able to show some fighting skills in new path? Like i know that mc will eventually be dragged back, bcs story must progress, but if we play as blood kell for example would we be able to do some dmg? I like to imagine that when my mc would finally be dragged back bloody cursing and with missing limbs lol there would be at least 2 or 3 mercs would have to be dragged unconscious behind them :D

[You approach the furthest blade with your breath caught in your lungs, their back still turned against you. Stabbing in the neck is out of the question, but you spot their hood loose around their neck and decide to pull it, bending them backwards. You help them along with a kick to the back of their knees. Your knife sinks in between armor and clothes. A squelching sound, blood seeping onto the grass now.]
This is one variation in a larger body of text, race and choice of trap will influence the route a lot!

I believe that play (drama, comedy etc.) should be a more popular genre for fanfiction (if there's any fanfiction written like that in the first place).

Are you Mind,
I don't know why, but sometimes when I'm sitting down doing nothing, or trying to fall asleep or something like that when I have nothing to do, my fingers just slip to the pulse point on my wrist and neck. It's almost calming in a way to just take a moment to feel my heart slow down as I calmly count the beats. I don't understand even when I'm busy doing something or talking with someone or going somewhere I just touch my forehead or my cheek unconsciously to make sure that yes I do exist and I'm here. I hate it. Almost every night, I feel this pounding feeling from my chest to my head and it won't leave me be. I usually get lost in my head, making up stories and lost the track of time. But so far as much as I understand this is the trauma response we don't talk about enough: Stress About NO-Stress. When we've struggled for SO long, NOT struggling feels painful-literally, we become Hyper-Vigilant. If you're waiting for the proverbial another shoe to drop - it's natural. But yet we have to understand that Healing is a process.

What do you mean by Venus floating cities?
I'm hoping to write a science fiction story about visiting Venus as part of the space race and I would love your input
Alright so the thing with Venus is that we're all very familiar with her horrible hell-death clouds and 900°F surface temperatures. We all understand the surface of Venus is not a fun place for humans to be.
Tumblr media
But, nobody ever talks about the fact that ABOVE the hell-death clouds, Venus is a paradise. The most Earth-like environment we know of in the solar system, beyond Earth itself, is actually in the skies of Venus.
About 30 miles above the surface, the pressure is ~1 atmosphere, and the temperature ranges from 30 - 100°F, which is Happy Human™ standard pressure and temperature.
What's more, a breathable mix of oxygen and nitrogen provides over 60% the lifting power on Venus that helium does on Earth. In other words, a balloon full of human-breathable air would float to the habitable range of Venus's atmosphere. We could float a ship with the very air we breathe.
The other great thing about this is that it avoids one of the big problems with Mars colonization. On Mars, any habitat on the surface full of breathable air is vulnerable to leaks and explosive decompression, a la the Martian.
Tumblr media
Floating on Venus, a balloon full of breathable air doesn't have a significant pressure difference between the inside and the outside. Which means, any leaks or tears would be very slow and manageable. You could fix that shit with duct tape!
Similarly, because the environment outside the balloon is so Earth-like, humans living there wouldn't need any big fancy pressurized suits for extravehicular work. We'd need air to breathe, maybe some heat protection, and protection against the acid rain. That's it.
Venus also provides the tools to keep us fed! It's atmosphere is made primarily of carbon dioxide, even above the dense horrible clouds. What likes carbon dioxide? Plants from Earth!! Lets grow FOOD on FLOATING PLATFORMS in the SKIES of VENUS.
This whole idea actually came out of a NASA effort exploring potential Venus colonization. The program was called HAVOC - the High Altitude Venus Operational Concept.
It hasn't really gone anywhere, and as far as I know there are no real plans to revisit it. Unfortunately, from a practicality standpoint, Mars is a much more viable target for human colonization. Not only is it better poised for outer solar system exploration, being farther away from the sun, but living on Venus would come with too many complicated contingencies. In the event of a major failure on Venus, you'd need to fly to another base, or fuck off all the way to orbit. I understand why people aren't really in a hurry to live somewhere where landing on the surface means certain death.
But that doesn't mean I won't be forever and always enamored by the skies of Venus. Here's one of the artist concepts to come out of HAVOC.
Tumblr media
I want to be there.
