IT IS UPDATE TIME! For those of you who missed the dirty draft in the discord, the original play link has now been updated with 35 thousand words and two chapters sizzling with exposition, and heated rivalry. I'm so excited!

Here's what's new:

Before we start, it took some honest critique for something to click for me, plot wise. I have been meandering with the plot, partly because I had no idea what I was even doing, and part because I really wanted to meander around in this new medium. But, the plot I have planned is very high octane and epic in scale so I don’t want to bore you to death before we get to the good stuff.

So, don’t hunt me for sport when I tell you that (for the time being) I have removed the entire section of RO 101’s. I was so stubborn with shoehorning them in for the better part of a year, leading to writer's block and utter despair since it just wouldn’t fit; it wasn’t how you were supposed to learn about the RO’s. I have put them aside for now and tweaked Lenas scene once more so that it flows better- I am hemming and hawing over Id’s 101 because that one actually makes sense to have there, plotwise. It might go back in where it was, but I am still thinking about it.

Ok, for real this time though:

The scenes where you scream and your RO busts down the door Kool-Aid man style are there now.

A meeting with Oma and a blast from your [origin] past!

A whole chapter of lies and deceit, but it could literally be anyone lying. Careful who to trust.

Is that… [REDACTED]?? Surely not.

Another chapter where you get to choose your weapons and the way the Surge manifests with your hunter.

On topic of the surge, the magic in Ouro, it is now a default for all players; you can choose from 4 different classes. The Battlefrenzied Zealot, The Beastmaster, The Etherweaver or The Vox Psion. I had a terrible time writing the codexes for these classes, so some are partial and others missing, but if you continue you will experience them in actual action-scenes instead, weaponized. Don't forget to save! For now, each class comes with its own weapon, but I will add more whenever extra time strikes, or when the draft is done.  I am going to remind you as I remind myself: This draft will get rougher around the edges, a little bit messy, as I am going to try to just draft the whole thing without even looking back. It will make my life so much easier when it comes to figuring out key scenes and motivations. While I wrote quite slowly as I treated OUROBOROS as a hobby, now I am working on it, which means skipping content I cannot think of on the spot just to keep the ball rolling. If you don't want to read the alpha draft, please wait with reading until the edited twine demo is out. Thank you!!

You don't know why they look at you with the wet eyes of someone saying their final goodbye, but something within you shouts that you've lost something, something of importance, and that maybe, they are the keeper of that terrible, wrought, secret.

You stutter for a second, your heart beating hard, and the words fall out of your mouth unbidden; nothing of importance, you think, and yet, a deluge of words pour out of you without second guessing. You haven't the faintest idea of what exactly you are saying, only that there is a rumble in reply, and then another; you talk and they talk, murmuring voices filling the space between you until it is so warm you can feel it, touch it, as if playing with the flame of a lone candle.

"Thank you," they say when you are idling at the threshold of their door again, worlds apart. They say it, and then place a tender kiss at the joint of your jaw, all the while your mouth wavers into the horrible placid smile you know is right, but so, so wrong. "Thank you," and the door closes, nothing having changed, at all.

Things I’m currently insane about thanks @honeypeabrain :

Id and MC, both robbed of nearness to others in different ways (physical and mental isolation) and haven’t fucking touched anyone or BEEN touched in so long

Id secretly regretting never shooting their shot with MC, even though they were with Leith, because they KNEW tomorrow was never promised to them!!! And THEN OH fuck respecting their relationship!!because Leith is gone, MC is alone and Id can’t fucking touch them or be with them and it’s infuriating that they’ve been in love infatuated with MC for so long and didn’t keep MC from going out to find their team and Leith like they SHOULD HAVE and agreed to go with…. Like… fuck, man 😭😭😭

MC feeling something for Id that’s been bubbling and simmering for an incredibly long time,,,,, the guilt of those feelings having been there since before Leith was gone and then the guilt of what happened to Id???? Maybe MC KNEw because of Id’s feelings for them that they wouldn’t say no to looking for the team???and now Id is resentful becAUSE they think MC manipulated them to do it even though they wOULD HAVE ANYWAY because they love have some kind of feelings for MC and seeing them like that was too much and THEIR GUILT of wishing Leith was out of the picture??? And then it building over the years and MC’s guilt and Id’s resentment and both of them thinking the other can’t stand to be around them but that could not be farther from the truth it’s just a fucking MESS

Despite the animosity between them, 𝐑𝐮𝐞 hopes that they can be friends with Ida again (he misses all his living companions ... but her the most) 😞

In his "prime", he had a fit build (decades of depression + lack of training/inactivity gave his body a softer appearance)

Because of his surge class, 𝐑𝐮𝐞 has always been more comfortable with signing than speaking & even though they eventually lost their connection to the surge they became much quieter during their self-imposed isolation (especially since Oma doesn't speak)

After discovering @honeypeabrain​'s amazing IF, Ouroboros-IF, i couldn't help myself to draw my MC!

I have replayed the demo like 5-6 times (maybe more) now because i love it so so much, so i decided to create my MC (will update it with the progress of the story, i'll also make a proper character sheet later for her.)

Name: Marie Villivent Appearance: Human female. She has familiar, soft and rounded features compared to the other species.

Body: Plump Height: Short Skin: Pale Hair: Mulled wine long, wavy hair Eyes: Blue

Here's Marie, she was the leader of a travelling mercenary band! She's short (something like 5'1/1m55) and has a plump body; i like to imagine that she used to have a rather musculated body during her time with the Hunters but decided to let herself and her body rest during her retirement. Oh, and she got piercings!

Personality: Marie has unfortunately been accustomed to hiding her true self to protect herself, when surrounded by strangers, she seems stoic, observant, serious and almost shy. But when she is surrounded by friends or colleagues, she is sweet, fun and mischievous.

I see her as a 'Melancholic' and 'Phlegmatic' type of person: She is a very caring person as she tries her best to help others when needed, often putting others before her. She is seen as someone approchable and rather friendly even if she has a natural frowning face when thinking or just daydreaming.

During her time as a leader for the mercenaries, she learned to stay stoic, neutral and independent so she doesn't get stepped on.

However, don't push her buttons too much, unless you want to have a free, natural dark eye shadow that will stay on for a week or two. Speaking of buttons, she, however, loves pushing them just to mess with others for her own amusement, claiming it as 'friendly teasing'. (if she likes you, you are in grave danger, she’s a menace.. She will tease you mercilessly, and when she will be done, she’ll be as soft as a butterfly with you)

Besides that, she is constantly afraid of being forgotten or no longer needed by the people she used to be close. Taking her retirement was some sort of 'self-punishment' by isolating herself from the world.. Waiting for something or someone to save her from her eternal brooding..

Random fact: She has learned many ways to whistle and imitate creature calls (she is very proud of it and likes to brag about it even though some of them are really not very good...).

Random wish: She dreams to have her picture in someone's locket necklace oneday. (she's a hopeless romantic okay, she just want to be loved)

Forget the IF, just wanted to check in and see if YOU were okay dear author? I hope everything is well. I know you have a process lol, but I miss seeing you on my TL from time to time.

oh, kjsdhfjskdf . how sweet<3 thank you for this! I am doing well, crafting ouro alongside some personal shifts and growth and setbacks and victories. it has been a godsend to take all this pressure off for this period and do things my way. though, I'll say: while it has taken and will probably take another while, this silence will be broken at some point. I'll avoid saying soon only because I'm staunchly sticking to my pace&process. however !! I finished the draft for the first book yesterday. !! I am currently doing some hefty edits, collecting art and testing coding (&learning something new a hundred times over, over, again, whether it be storycrafting, interactivity, ui design, social media, art, code ... the list goes on) and so for the most part, I'm having a good time, as long as we count the entire spectrum of the human condition as a mostly good time. pfft.

I miss hanging out here too! I genuinely can't wait to get back to online shenanigans once I feel ready for it; if you'll have me, of course. I can imagine that this type of secret development is frustrating and everyone has their limit. It means a lot that you sent this my way. Hope you're doing well too. <3
