Astral Pt. 8 (Loki x Reader)
Ok guys they’re REUNITED! God i hope you all know that I wrote all 7 parts in one day because i was so obsessed with getting chapters out so i wouldn’t have to write them daily or lose my thoughts!! Ok well now i have some time to figure out where the story will go from here or if i end it here....
IM JUST JOKING it’s not over yet XDD it’s barely begun :p Feel free to send messages about what you think is gonna happen or who might make minor appearances, villain or hero, cuz i have some planned out! I’ve been doing research guys, i bought a marvel encyclopedia for the first time in years cuz i visited the store the other day and loaded up on comic books again it’s been awhile but my collection is growing again ^^
Tumblr media
You’re standing next to Natasha when the brothers drop down from the sky in their rainbow elevator thing. Thor called it the bifrost? It wasn’t something Loki had talked about when you had been on speaking terms, he must have not found it important enough.
The brothers landed outside on Stark’s glorified patio, 91 floors up. You almost forget to breathe as you look at Loki. His hair is a little longer now, he’s definitely lost some weight, and the bags under his eyes tell you enough. His face is cold as he looks around and, angrily, lets Thor lead him inside where you all stand in various places waiting on them. You note that both the brothers are dressed casually but it’s still a bit much, Earth wise.
You swallow as Loki first sees Tony and smirks at him, “Seems I won’t be missing that drink you promised?”
Tony gave him a once over then shrugged. “I guess you deserve a small break. Thor filled me in on what’s been going on.” Tony said, you thought you could hear a hint of a threat lacing his words though. Loki huffed and rolled his eyes looking at the rest of the team before his eyes landed on you.
You looked into his eyes for what felt like hours but must have only been seconds. The angry look he had been parading in dropped and you saw a flurry of reactions so quick everyone else would miss it but you knew Loki. You try your best to keep your face disinterested, not quite sure if you succeed. Still a bit hurt he told you to never come back coming to the front of your mind you look away and whisper to Nat, “I gotta go, fill me in on what happens.” Then you rush out.
You hear Tony saying, “You already scared off y/n..” as you left the room.
You basically run to your room and slam the door shut. Your breathing had started becoming haggard on your way up and only intensified as you closed yourself in your room. Both your hands gripped at your hair and pull, your eyes squeezed shut, tight. You shouldn’t be reacting like this it was Loki, it was just Loki. He wouldn’t hurt you, physically. You had thought that you were over whatever heartbreak you had all those years before. How the fuck were you to function normally around him if just one look at him made you this panicky? Made your heart beat so hard you thought it might break out of your ribs. Made you want to cry deliriously happy and sad at the same time.
You let go of your hair, let your tears fall, and punched the wall a few times, hoping the pain in your hands would ground you. Luckily, it did, but you’d probably have to come up with an excuse because your knuckles were blooming dark purple. You took in deep breaths, copying what Loki had taught you to do when you got to worked up, subconsciously, the thought of him causing you to freak a bit more but then you just focused on breathing.
It’s a few hours later when Natasha comes to your room and tells you dinner is ready. You had settled and had a book open in your lap as you sat on your bed. You consider skipping dinner and you’re about to say it when you see the look Natasha is giving you. She had been the one to teach you to over come your fears, to face them head on. She probably thought you were scared of Loki because he had tried to take over the world. Oh, how wrong she was. You nodded and told her you were gonna wear something else. She left you in peace and you sighed, rubbing a hand over your face then putting on your brave face and getting dressed in something casual. A simple t-shirt and jeans would suffice.
When you entered the dinning room, a floor below yours, everyone was seated. Natasha had left you a seat. Right next to Loki. You swallowed and studiously kept your eyes anywhere but on Loki when you sat down. You realized Loki was very tense when you sat next to him but said nothing on the matter.
“Brother! This is dear Y/n I mentioned, she’s got a quick wit just like you, I’m sure you both will be the best of friends!”
You smiled at Thor but it probably came off as more of a grimace because Thor gave you a frown. Loki said nothing and focused on eating his food. The whole table got silent realizing something was up between you and Loki. You cleared your throat and tried to sooth things over by looking at Loki. His eyes caught yours and for a second you got lost in them, again. God, get ahold of yourself!
Mentally shaking your head you plastered a smile on and said, “Nice to meet you, Loki, I can’t wait to get to know you.” You finish lamely then quickly look at your food and begin stuffing your face so you wouldn’t have to speak anymore.
“Riiiiiight.” Tony said eyeing you and Loki suspiciously. Steve sat next to him frowning at your attitude. You missed the silent conversation Natasha and Clint had.
“You’re going to choke if you continue to eat like a bilge snipe that hasn’t seen food in weeks.” Loki said in a casual voice.
You choke. You swallow what is in your mouth, Natasha hitting your back a few times, and then you laugh.
God you missed Loki.
“Remember when you swallowed that moon berr-” Stopping yourself short you swallowed and closed your eyes, last seeing Loki’s happy look turn into a neutral face as he glances around at the team. Damn.
“Remember? You two know each other?” Natasha asked, nudging you with her elbow. Thankfully you see she reserves her judgement on the situation.
Sighing you look at the team and set your utensils down.
“Loki is...” You shot Loki a confused look as if to ask if you still were but shook your head and continued on looking at Nat primarily, “We’re soulmates. I first met Loki when I was 13 years old.”
“In person?” Steve asked.
“No, I can astral project my spirit but because I’m his soulmate it wasn’t hard it just kind of happened when I needed him most.”
You picked up your glass of water, noticing you are shaking a bit. You especially tried not to jump when you felt Loki set a comforting hand on your thigh under the table. Taking a drink you looked at the table, took a deep breath, then let your eyes come back up to the confused team.
“When you needed him most?” Tony asked after a few minutes of silence.
Looking at Tony you bit your lip. Should you....
“My grandfather killed my grandmother in front of me when I was 13, I hid in my closet and closed my eyes, when I opened them I was in a room in Asgard.”
“She was in one of my mental rooms that I use to astral project. A fabricated room I made when I was younger.” Loki said, his eyes only on you.
“He was always there when something bad happened and we became best friends. I was 17 when I realized I had magic, his magic.” You said looking at Nat who looked confused. “Because we’re connected through our mind and soul, I draw my power from him. The powers I have are Loki’s in a sense but at the same time my own, I can do some things he can’t and vice versa.”
“So if Loki just like, hypothetically, died,” Tony rolled his eyes when Loki glared at him, “Hypothetically! Would you lose your powers?”
You swallowed as a knot formed in your throat and looked at Loki with sad eyes, willing him to answer because you surely didn’t have an answer for that.
“Possibly.” Loki clipped out, sending a glare at Tony, as if damning him for making you think of that preposterous idea.
Tony hummed in thought.
“If you’re soulmates, why did she react the way she did when she first saw you?” Thor asked, mostly aiming the question to Loki. Loki looked at Thor, angry, then let out a breath and held his chin high.
“We had a falling out three years ago.”
“No doubt your fault?” Thor said causing Loki to nod once with a roll of his eyes.
“No!” You yelled looking at Loki with exasperation. “I’m the one that chose to leave!”
“I’m the one that gave you an ultimatum.” Loki ground out, frowning at you.
“You were trying to keep me safe.” You said causing Loki to scoff.
“Ok, wait, what happened so we can all choose our sides respectfully here?” Clint asked.
“Shield found out about my powers when I was 17, said once I turn 18 they can give me an offer I can’t refuse. I could work for them. Loki said not to do it because it sounded like they were gonna use me as a weapon, that we knew nothing about Shield and what it stood for,” You sighed and pinched the bridge of your nose with closed eyes, “I told him I was gonna take up their offer considering I had a bad home life, he argued Shield could be more dangerous and I told him I was still gonna take the offer anyways so he offered an ultimatum.” Letting your hand fall down to your lap and over Loki’s, still resting on your lap. You softly caressed his knuckles under the table. When you had closed your eyes, to pinch your bridge, you missed the concerned look Loki gave as he saw the violet bruises on your knuckles.
“He said if I leave to never come back because he wouldn’t be able to watch me get hurt.”
Tony breathed through his teeth, a hiss, but otherwise everyone stayed silent.
“I left.” You finished lamely.
The table stayed silent for awhile, everyone gathering their thoughts and questions, until Steve spoke up.
“After she left, what did you do Loki?”
“I had Heimdal watch over her-”
“He is all seeing.” Thor said quickly to help out.
“-and I told him that if she were to find any trouble she could not handle to send me to her.”
You looked up at Loki, shocked, who zealously kept his eyes on Steve. You offered what comfort you could by grasping his hand and squeezing. You smiled inwardly as Loki’s tense form softened slightly.
“I’m taking it she never ran into trouble she couldn’t handle.” Steve said, more as a statement than a question.
“From what Heimdal has told me, joining Shield is the best thing to happen to her and I almost stopped that.”
“You couldn’t have known.” You said quietly, frowning in thought, Loki finally looked down at you and your heart almost broke in half at the hurt in his eyes.
“All you wanted was the best for me and I’m sorry I left,” You looked down and squeezing his hand before looking back up at his eyes, “I’m sorry I left and never tried to reach you again but I’m not sorry about the decision I made.”
Loki looked at you for a bit then nodded, satisfied with something he found on your face or possibly in your eyes. “I’m sorry I never tried to reach out to you too.” Loki admitted.
You glanced at Thor who sat next to Loki, looking a little put out he never knew about the both of you.
“Sorry we didn’t tell you Thor I kind of wanted to keep it a secret because I was going through a lot and wasn’t very trusting of strangers at the time.” You said to placate Thor, making the blame fall on you instead of Loki since their relationship was already rocky to begin with. A minor way you could apologize to Loki about not contacting him.
Thor smiled, genuinely, then said “I’m just happy to make your acquaintance now, y/n.”
Everyone went back to eating their almost cold meal now. Natasha and Clint the only ones that noted that you and Loki ate with one hand the entire time.
Conversations flowed between the team smoothly like you all were meant to be there, together. No one made any comments on the fact that you and Loki couldn’t keep your eyes off each other the entire time either.

Hickeys and shattered hearts / Maria Hill x Stark!reader / Natasha x Stark!reader
A/N:This one's kinda sad but also kinda cute idk
Warning: Light angst, cursing ofc.
дорогой - Sweetheart
---------------------🕸🕷----------------------
You were new to the Avenfers despite being Tony Starks sister. They didn't know he had a sister because he never told them per your request. And only introduced yourself during the battle of New York showing up in an iron suit.
Although you had already worked for Shield even before Tony did as an agent. You helped him build some of his suits, even made your own
Tony and you were slightly different from each other with you being more on the nicer and sweeter side but still had his wit and sass.
You got along with the rest of them team really well, especially with a certain red headed assassin. Natasha had gotten to like you a lot after a few years of being colleagues, though was a complete wreck at asking you out.
Now you and the Avengers are in Sokovia battling with Ultron and his iron legion alongside new additions. Pietro and Wanda Maximoff.
"So when do you think help is on the way." You blasted through the robots that were lined up. "Any minute now cavalry."
"I didn't say we should leave.." You hear Natasha as you land to the ground. "There's worse ways to go." She finishes, you open your mask to breath a little better. "This isn't exactly how I planned mine to be." You said taking a few deep breaths.
"Where else am I gonna get a view like this." She motioned about the floating country. "Only once in a lifetime." You try to see through the smoke.
"I hope you like the view Romanoff. It's about to get better." Fury says through the coms as the helicarrier emerges up from the clouds and smoke. "Nice right? Pulled her out of mothballs with a couple of old friends. She's dusty but she'll do."
"Fury you son of a bitch." You and Steve say as you looked in awe at the flying ship. "Oh, you two kiss your mother with that mouth?"
"I wouldn't really call her my mother, but yes I do kiss her with my mouth." You grinned as mask closed again ready for the second wave. Nat didn't know you were in a relatiowith someone only till a few weeks ago.
You were searching up on new technology to improve you and you brothers suits. Recently discovering about Nanotechnology, after days of research you've only managed to create a protoype for only the helmet.
You heard the door knock and said out a come in. "Hey, Y/N have you seen Bruce?" Natasha came in as you still had on the mask thst only reached the bottom of your neck.
"No sorry, haven't seen him since like an hour ago. Maybe he's in his room I guess." You shrugged as the mask slowly disappeared like it was dissolving from your face.
"Whoah how'd you do that you fuckin wizard or something." Nat looked at you surprised. "Cool right?" You grinned at her as you put the tech on a mannequin.
"I'll go find him, sorry to bother you." She smiled a little. "Yeah no problem." You focused on the computer. She was nearly out of the room when she noticed a bruise on the side of your neck.
Once you turned around a little it showed more purple and red spots on your neck. "Y/N.." She trailed as you looked up at her. "Yeah?"
"What happened to." She motioned to her neck and you looked at her in confusion. "Huh? Why? Is there something wrong?" You asked still confused.
"Look at the mirror." Her tone laced with a hint of jealously. "I don't what's- Oh!" You cut off your own sentence when you saw you reflection in the mirror. Red and purple marks scattered on your neck.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry you had to see that!" Shrieking you activated the mask again hide them and your embarrassed face.
You hit your head on palm of your habd a few times chanting to yourself that you were stupid to not notice. "Look, it's ok, I've seen worse. Do you want me to help you with it?" Nat brushed of the feeling in the pit of her stomach.
"No no, I don't want to take away more time from you. I can just cover this up with some make up." The front of the mask opened as you had a sorry smile for her. But Natasha wanted to stay longer, she wanted to stay with you.
"Ok just, just call me if you need anything." She said as you let out a final apology and a thank you. "F.R.I.D.A.Y, please call Agent Hill immediately please." You command the A.I thingking that the ex russian spy was gone.
"What is it Stark? Somethibg happened?" Maria said from the other line. Natasha hid behind a wall to eavesdrop, yes it was wrong, but she just wanted an answer to her question.
"Don't Stark me Hill, you know what exactly happened." You spat before sending a photo to her. "I can't believe you didn't tell me before I left!" You sighed running a hand through your hair.
"I don't get what- Oh, Oh!" Maria stopped midway when she saw the photo you sent. "Well you didn't exactly say anything when we were-" "Don't you dare finish that sentence Hill or I will slap you across the face." You threatened through gritted teeth.
Natasha left not needing and not wanting to hear your conversation. She only asked for Bruce to have an excuse to see you.
Now she's left to go to the gym to blow off some steam and to avoid her heart from shattering entirely.
"I think I know who you're talking about. You two together the whole night at the party right?" Clint said as he smirked at you as you flew past him.
"You're seeing someone and you didn't tell me? I feel betrayed- I am betrayed." Tony sounded genuinely upset over the fact that Clint new and not him.
"We agreed not to tell anyone, and that anyone including you brother." You said matter of factly.
You saw Clint rushing behind a rock with a little boy trying to get to cover from the iron legion who were about to rain bullets on them.
Also noticing a blue and silver trail speeding towards them, you land right infront of Pietro and Clint shielding the three from the bullets, after they were done it was your turn to start beaming at them.
"What you didn't see that coming?" Opening the front of your mask to smirk at Pietro who looked at you like you were crazy.
"After this Fury, I'm gonna take a break. I've seen enough robots for the year. Person I am seeing you owe me a date." You say taking down a few more robots.
"I am going to pretend I didn't see her nod her head and smile. Stark you two have sone explaining to do before any dates will happen." Fury eyed Maria giving the 'Really? You two?' look.
The three of you got on to one of the ships to the helicarrier. "I'm sorry for what's about to happen." You apologetically glance at Pietro about Sokovia.
"Not exactly the way I wanted my chapter to end, but I guess it's something. This is where my family was made, this was also where it was destroyed, and where my twin and I made into well.. Whatever we are." His thick accent following through every word..
After the battle with Ultron, the civilians were given the help that they needed. "Having fun staring at the wall? It's an interesting wall don't get me wrong." You smiled as you walked towards Natasha.
"What'd you call me for? You need help finding Bruce again?" You asl as she shook her head turning to fully look at you.
"Not really, I just wanted to tell you something." Nat looked nervous which surprised you for the very first time. "It's about you."
"Me?" You pointed to yourself. "I- jesus christ this is harder than I thought." Nat let out a heavy sigh as you put a hand on her shoulder. "Hey its ok, take your time." You reassured her.
"I like you." She knew that you knew what it meant and was expecting to take your hand of her shoulder but you didn't. "I'm sorry Nat I really am, you're an amazing person."
"I know you can't, that's why I'm telling you this to let it out of my chest." Sadness was evident in her tone but she had to accept the fact the you can't love her back.
"I'll go beat up Hill if she hurts you." Nat joked as you pushed her shouler lightly. "We still friends?" You mumble as you pulled her to a hug.
She reciprocated by wrapping her arms around you. "Always." She said against your shoulder. "I better not find you downing a bottle of vodka later." You threatened as she just chuckled.
"I'll try not to." She says as you pulled away from the hug to glare at her. "No promises дорогой." She playfully smirked at you.
Natasha swore to herself to be there for you until the end. Not as lovers but as friends. Always and forever
Natasha left with Steve because they were evaluating the new recuits for the Avengers, she asked you if you wanted to come with her but you declined saying you were gonna meet with someone.
"Hey.." Maria said as she leaned against a wall seeing you walk down the halls. "Hi, were you waiting for me?" You ask as you walked closer to the Agent.
"No I wasn't." She simply replied as she looked at you and smiled "Really? Cause you looked like you were waiting for me." You raised a brow at her staring at hers, cold blue eyes thst somehow radiated warmth whenever she looked at you.
"Maybe I was maybe I wasn't." She smirked at you causing you to roll your eyes by her answer. "What were you doing before going here?" She asked as you two walked together.
"Oh I jusst rejected someone." You sighed rethingking what happened earlier. "Was it Natasha?" Maria says non chalanty.
You looked at her with a 'how the fuck.' face. "How the fuck did you know?" Your eyes wide as they can be. "I've known for a while know. At first I was worried about it."
"Oh yeah? Why so?" "Because I love you and you love me, simple as that." She gave a quick peck before walking ahead of your blushing face.
"Atleast kiss me properly Agent." You caught up to her and pulled her down for a proper kiss, instinctively placing her hand on your waist.
You pulled away as Maria was about to deepen in. "Although I'd love to but I only said for a proper kiss." Now it was your turn to give her quick peck before walking ahead of her.
"This so very cringey but also so cute at the same time." Coulson solighed as he saw the whole thing happen.

Could I pretty pretty please get some more on the time travel crack au? Maybe when it gets out that Steve, Bruce, andThor are technically from the future?
As much as I’d love to jump to that part, I think it’s funnier necessary to cover a few other tidbits first. For example:
Tony misses whatever discussion follows Thor’s -- hah, got it right in one, he hasn’t lost his touch completely yet -- arrival before the god carries his brother off towards a containment cell with the sort of cheer that causes Tony to carefully keep at least two people between himself and Thor, lest the asshole tries to hug him again.
Not that it can be that big a loss considering they all -- sans Loki -- end up back in the command center of the helicarrier, where Fury glares balefully at the most recent invader of his precious aircraft that clearly isn’t meant to stand in the way of gods.
A glare Thor aggressively doesn’t notice. Likely because he’s too busy partaking in the on-going discussion on what to do next.
And by ‘what to do next’ Tony doesn’t mean the expected we-were-invaded-by-a-mindcontrolled-alien-nutbag-and-there’s-probably-more-out-there-seems-like-the-kind-of-oh-shit-situation-we-should-plan-for. No. That would be reasonable and expected and Tony’s spent all of three hours in the company of the esteemed Captain America and already he can tell you that Rogers is none of that.
[Which, not cool, Capsicle. Dazzling and befuddling people with crazily brilliant ideas is his job.]
[continues under the cut]
So far, Tony’s been paying attention for ten minutes. In that time, Rogers and Thor have gotten into an argument over how to handle Loki -- which holy shit, that went from a calm, rational discussion to a battle to the death between two superhumans on a sugar high in zero point four seconds -- that Tony is so not gonna touch. [Nope. Let some other fool [i.e. Rogers] throw himself head-first into norse god family drama, Tony’s own feelings concerning his family are complicated enough.] That conversation devolved into a not-openly-fighting-while-totally-fighting stand-off between Rogers and Banner over a way too bitter comment from the latter [something about ‘you’d know all about choosing one brother over the other, wouldn’t you’ which what?], which in turn gets derailed by Banner needling Thor about the merits of beheading over stabbing.
Romanoff had the good sense to disappear -- probably to interrogate Loki while his apparently protective big brother is distracted, now that Tony thinks about it.
Unfortunately that still leaves Tony stuck here, having to play the role of the mature adult because no one else fucking will. Tony hates being responsible. It’s like being back in high school and being left to do all the work on your own in group project.
[Tony failed that project. Got a straight up zero on purpose because spite is a wonderful motivator. Which, now that Tony thinks about it, doesn’t say anything promising about the current situation.]
Tony leans even further back in his seat, only balancing on the backlegs of the chair, to give Fury a very sharp, very judgemental look.
These are the people you’re betting Earth’s survival on, that look says.
Fury’s already pissed off expression darkens further, which brightens Tony mood substantially. That one of the suit’s sensors flashes green twice in quick succession less than a minute later really just makes for a delicious cherry on the top. Or more precisely a good excuse to ditch this trainwreck of a match-making attempt.
“Whoops,” Tony says, clearly audible but not too loud to draw real attention from the three [still arguing-while-pretending-not-to] stooges on the other end of the room. “Looks like I gotta take this call.”
He jiggles his fingers at Fury. The guy rolls his eyes -- probably jealous that he doesn’t have an excuse himself, that bitch face doesn’t fool Tony -- but no one tries to stop him.
“Alright, J, what do you have for me?”
*
Tony pretends not to notice the shuffling footsteps. Glances at the disturbingly normal clock on the wall that is so not up-to-date with the rest of the technology in the room, it must be an inside joke. Tony would love to meet the SHIELD agent behind it -- it can’t be easy, being the only person with a sense of humor in an entire agency.
30 minutes.
Well. That’s longer than Tony thought he’d get. JARVIS still hasn’t cracked the last layer on SHIELD’s really fucked up dirt -- and given what he’s already found, that says a lot -- but it’s only a matter of time now. Besides, Tony’s got a job to do.
“To- Stark.”
“Rogers.”
Tony doesn’t turn. Neither does he stop typing.
“What are you doing?”
Tony scoffs. He’s not in the mood to pander to inferior minds -- not when they’re so fucking frustrating, don’t make any sense and worst of all make him do all the work.
“He’s tracking the Tesseract, using the scepter as a point of reference,” Banner says after taking one look at the screen over Tony’s shoulder.
Tony raises his eyebrows, impressed despite himself. Banner’s credentials clearly don’t do him justice -- and they were pretty damn good to begin with.
“Huh,” says Rogers.
Thanks for playing. Now buckle down and make yourself useful or fuck off, Tony wants to snipe but doesn’t get the chance to because the gods -- this god at least -- just aren’t on his side.
“Even without my brother’s help, a weapon of the tesseract’s might should not be underestimated,” Thor speaks up. “Should we not make haste and collect it?”
"Great idea.” Tony’s voice is dryer than the sand dune he crash-landed in back during his fun little trip to Afghanistan. “If only I’d thought of that instead of inventing fifteen new algorithms to try and get a read on SHIELD’s precious magic eight ball while you were busy defending your brother’s honor. Speaking of, I’m pretty sure Romanoff is a greater danger to his virtue than Captain Shockfreeze over there, so why are you still here?”
Okay, maybe poking the hornet nest that is godly family isn’t his smartest move [didn’t he just say he wasn’t gonna touch that?!] but damn if Tony isn’t curious. And also too annoyed to care about unimportant, subjective things like good manners and tact.
He sort of regrets his cavalier attitute a little when Thor sobers. At least there are no tears in sight. Tony is the last person on Earth who should be left unsupervised around crying people. It just never ends well.
“Ah.” Thor sighs heavily, stems his body against an unfortunate table that creaks dangerously. "I’m afraid I can’t afford to see my brother right now.”
It’s the way he says those words, the weight they carry more than anything that tells Tony he needs to drop this issue right now. Talk about one huge trigger button.
Must be inconvenient to have siblings. Tony totally can’t relate.
“Well, in that case, unless you have a magic trick with which you can pull the Tesseract’s position out of your sleeve, how about you sit as far away from these delicate instruments as possible and don’t touch anything while I work my magic, hm?”
Tony doesn’t let his gaze linger on the crushed edge of the table. Thor hasn’t even seemed to notice. He’s too busy lighting up at Tony’s snappish response. Which is surprising. Tony’s aware he’s a bit of an asshole right now. In his defence, he’s an asshole most of the time.
Rogers leaps across the room -- almost crashing into the previously mentioned delicate sensors as he does so -- to slap his palm over Thor’s mouth.
Tony stares. [How quickly can you develop a new habit again? Because this starts to feel like a new habit.]
“That sounds like a great plan!” Rogers beams at him, so wide and fake it must be physically painful for the epitome of all that is good and holy. At least Tony hopes it is. The supersoldier his father worshipped is still clinging to their resident god of thunder’s face.
It’s.
Tony resolutely turns his back on both of them because their madness doesn’t seem to come with a refund-ticket and if Tony doesn’t finish this program, no one will.
Not even Banner -- whom Tony had been kind of hoping for. Speaking of, the man’s been awfully quiet for a while now.
“You alright there, Brucie-Bear?” Tony turns around -- a little because it’s polite to face people when you talk with them and mostly to have an excuse not to watch the ongoing doomed wrestle-match between Blonde 1 and Blonde 2. His awesome nicknaming skill doesn’t get so much as a twitch.
To be fair, Banner is so busy staring straight ahead with the most epic rendition of the World’s Most Thoughtful Expression™ Tony has seen in a while that it doesn’t seem like the man heard him. At all.
Until he suddenly speaks up.
“I think we’ve forgotten something.” Behind Tony the impromptu wrestling comes to a sudden halt.
Probably something negligible like how to focus on a mission, the sarcastic voice in the back of Tony’s mind drawls. Though it should be noted that Tony’s consciousness only comes in sarcastic or not at all. Sorry, everyone, all the other flavors are out.
Banner’s frown deepens. “Something- Something important.”
Right on cue an explosion rocks the aircraft.
*
There’s a bit more tension in this part than the previous ones. On Tony’s side it’s because he’s smart enough to pick up on Something Is Seriously Wrong, both consciously and subconsciously and also because he feels the pressure what with everyone else apparently not taking this whole thing very seriously.
[Excluding Natasha who, believe me, takes Clint’s fate very serious indeed.]
On our time travellers’ side, they experience the frustration of being unable to talk openly, surrounded by people they don’t trust, trying to play along to the script of a movie they watched like 12 years ago and never revisited. Needless to say they’re failing horrenduously.

The knock at your door pulled you out of your thoughts and out of the bed. You walked over to the door and opened it, not expecting who was behind it.
"Something I can do for you, Captain?" You asked the blonde that stood in front of you.
"I just wanted to formally introduce myself, get a chance to talk to you," He said firmly and held out a hand. "Steve Rogers-"
"I know who you are, Captain. And you know who I am. Is there something I can do for you?" You cut him off.
"Can I come in?" He asked.
"Two shoes in a shoebox," You raised an eyebrow and stepped aside so he could fit through the doorway.
You shut the door but kept an eye on him at all times, never having your back to him.
"You can sit on the bed," You told him but you stood by the door, leaning on the wall.
He nodded and walked over to the bed, sitting with good posture.
"I'm assuming you don't want to talk about the mission since your tone doesn't seem urgent enough and you're sitting on my bed. So, what do you want to talk about, Captain?" You asked.
"You can just call me Steve. I just figured I could talk to you one on one; there wasn't much about you in the files."
"There's not much to me, that's why. Whatever was in the file, was all that you needed to know about me," You spoke sharply, not liking that he wanted to know more about you.
You saw him let out a sigh in what looked like defeat and stood to leave. You felt bad; he was trying.
"Thank you for taking the time to talk to me, I know I'm a bit cold but I'm not used to being any other way," You forced out, not wanting to show any signs of weakness or kindness, but you also didn't want to upset him.
"It's no problem. I'm here if you ever need a chat. I'm sure we're more alike than you think."
"I'm sure we are, Captain."
He gave you one last nod before leaving, walking as if he were on a mission, very determined.
You shut the door behind him and turned around to look at your white suit that had hints of red highlighting it. S.H.I.E.L.D. designed it and you went along, agreeing it was good to rebrand. You previously wore an all-black one but you switched for two reasons. One, you knew there was already someone on the team that liked to keep a dark look, Natasha. And two, because the black looked was attached to a life that only had bad memories for you. This new look could be a new start. The only flaw about the suit is that it's so bright and noticeable so your enemies could see you coming but it also draws more attention and you didn't like to be the center of it.
"Loki means to unleash the Hulk," You heard in your ear, distracting you from your inner conflict about the suit.
You sighed and left the room, making your way to the lab. Once you got there the scientists, spies, and super solder were already there, going back and forth. And there was a weird gun-like contraption sitting on the table.
"Loki is manipulating you," You heard Natasha speak as you walked over to lean on the table with the contraption, where you could see everyone.
"I would like to know why SHIELD is using the Tesseract to build weapons of mass destruction," Banner spoke clearly, catching your attention.
"You knew about this?" Steve turned to ask you.
"I'm new here just like you, Cap," You responded, not even bothering to look at him.
You listened to the boys go back and forth, causing you to roll your eyes.
"I'm sure if he were still making weapons, Stark would be neck-deep–"
"Since when was this about him?" You questioned Steve which caused a smug smile to decorate Tony's face.
"Yep, I like that one," Tony hummed to himself.
"I'm sorry, usually most things are," Steve retorted and narrowed his eyes at Tony.
"You know, this is exactly what Loki wants," You said as everyone started to speak over each other, but you knew you weren't heard.
"That's his M.O. isn't it? I mean, what are we, a team? No, no, no, we're a chemical mixture that makes chaos. We're- we're a time bomb," Banner ranted but with a calm and neutral voice.
"You need to step away."
"Why shouldn't the guy let off a little steam?" Tony instigated and put his hand on Steve's shoulder.
"You know damn well why. Back off!" Steve said and pushed Tony's arm off.
"Oh, I'm starting to want you to make me," Tony antagonized him, making you crack a smile at the interaction.
"Yeah. Big man in a suit of armor," Steve says and starts circling Tony. "Take that off, what are you?"
"Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist," Tony answered smartly and you and Natasha nodded at the same time, agreeing.
"I know guys with none of that worth ten of you."
"Knew," You quietly corrected."I've seen the footage. The only thing you really fight for is yourself. You're not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you," Steve dug into Tony.
"I think I would just cut the wire," Tony went back at Steve.
Steve glanced over at you quickly with a smile; not a happy one, you could tell he was annoyed.
"Always a way out. You may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be a hero."
"A hero? Like you? You a laboratory experiment, Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle."
"Put on the suit. Let's go a few rounds."
Thor laughed so you knew it was okay to let out a giggle, it was getting tense and you didn't want anyone to look at you weird.
"You people are so petty," He chuckled. "And tiny," He said while look at you, making you give him a face.
"Yeah, this is a team," Banner rolled his eyes.
"Agents Romanoff and Y/L/N, would you escort Doctor Banner back to his-"
"Where? You rented my room," Banner said and pointed off to the general direction of Loki.
"The cell was just in case-"
"In case you needed to kill me. But you can't. I know, I tried."
You and the others looked over at him, and you crossed your arms over your chest as you analyzed him. He was a little more unstable than you originally presumed.
"I got low. I didn't see an end. So, I put a bullet to my mouth, and the other guy spit it out," He explained.
As he kept talking, you watched as his hand moved to Loki's scepter, immediately putting you on guard, your hand reaching for the gun you kept strapped on your ankle. The others soon began to pick up on what you already noticed making you slightly worried about their reaction times.
"You wanna know my secret Agent Romanoff? You wanna know how I stay calm?"
"Doctor Banner... put down the scepter," Steve spoke up just as you took the safety off the gun and held it at your side.
Banner looked down at the scepter in his hand before looking up at everyone. And just at that moment, the computers started going off, garnering everyone's attention.
"Sorry, kids, you don't get to see my party trick after all," Bruce said bitterly and walked over to the other side of the lab.
Everyone started speaking again, trying to draft up individual plans rather than a plan for the whole group to follow.
"You're not going alone!" Steve tried to stop Tony from leaving and going after the Tesseract by himself.
"You gonna stop me?" Tony challenged and swatted Steve's hand away from him.
"Put on the suit, let's find out."
"I'm not afraid to hit an old man."
"Put on the suit."
"Oh, my God," Banner mumbled, taking his glasses off.
There was a big boom that shook the whole Helicarrier and tossed everyone in different directions. Steve tried to grab onto you, but you fell through the glass windows with Natasha and Bruce and he was tossed against a cabinet next to Tony.
"Romanoff! Y/L/N!" You heard from the earpiece in your ear.
You looked over as a bunch of metal was sprawled out over you, Natasha, and Banner. The glass shards cut tiny holes in your black cargos and long-sleeve shirt. You hadn't been in action in an outfit like this since you were back in France.
"We're fine," Natasha spoke back with uncertainty in her voice.
"Are we really?" You asked and tried to move the rubble off of you.
You heard Banner groaned in between you and Natasha's pants.
"Doctor?" You asked but he groaned even louder, his hands balling into fists.
"Bruce? You gotta fight it. This is just what Loki wants," Natasha spoke calmly, but no matter how you talked to him, he was going to shift. "We're going to be okay. Listen to me."
You watched as other agents attempted to come in and help, but Natasha shooed them out in an attempt to keep the doctor calm.
"We're going to be okay. Alright? I swear on my life, I will get you out of this. You will walk away and never ever-"
"Your life?" Banner spoke, outraged by what she said. You saw him turning green and turned back around to work on getting out of the rubble.
Banner gave you two one last look before fully turning into the Hulk.
"Bruce," You heard Natasha whisper.
You wiggled out of the pipes and quickly got up. You went over to Natasha and picked the pipe up off her leg. She shot up and you both started running, but not before grabbing the gun that fell out your hand.
"You go up top and I'll stay down here," You told her and she nodded, running up some steel steps.
For a while you were both running around, trying to hide from the big guy before crossing paths again. You found Natasha sneaking around containers, trying not to be seen by the big green man. You both looked up and he growled upon the sight of the two of you. You quickly aimed your gun and shot at a pipe, wanting to distract him so you two could run. The two of you ran through the hallway, trying to get away from him when he got close and swatted Natasha out the way, tossing her into a wall.
"Come on, you big green idiot!" You called as you kept running, bringing him further from the Russian.
He chased after you until you heard a big bang that seemed to have taken him out. You look through the hole in the wall and see him and Thor rolling on the floor. Thor tried to reason with the Hulk, calling him Banner and ultimately getting punched through some bins. You tore away from the two and ran back to Natasha.
You pulled her off the floor and dusted her off, not bothering to ask if she was okay. You heard a message about Barton, causing you and Natasha to look at each other and nod.
You and Nat figured out where he was and split up. You catch him from the front, and she'd attack from the back. You picked up that this was important for her, so while you weren't going to fight Barton yourself, you'd be there for backup and as a distraction.
When Barton saw you, he pulled up his bow and was ready to shoot an arrow at you, but Nat turned him around and narrowly dodged the shot. At one point he had her against the railing, so you took the opportunity to punch him and kick him down. He pulled out a knife and kept going back and forth with his friend. But you noticed the redhead was in a position she couldn't get out, so you kicked the back of his legs, letting him fall to the ground and Nat hit his head against the railing.
"That was a bit hard for someone we want to keep alive," You muttered and looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
You looked back at the man with the arrows as he fell back, clearly disoriented.
"Natasha?" He questioned and the woman quickly punched him, knocking him to the ground.
You and Natasha had been waiting for the medical team to arrive and get Barton. She was leaning against the railing, looking completely drained. You sat on the floor, head on the railing so the coldness of it could help with the migraine that was starting to form.
"Agent Coulson is down," You heard Fury speak after a while. "They called it."

Fanfic: From the Outside (5/5)
Final day of the Romanogers Week and this has been so much fun! Thanks to all who have entered, I loved seeing everyone’s contributions. And for the hosts, thanks for getting me back into writing and helping to spread some Romanogers love, ‘cause we all need some of that!
Summary: Five prompts, five days, five stories. Romanogers Week 2018
Notes: Marvel owns everything except the mistakes, so I’d take it as a personal favour if you didn’t sue me. I do own the picture  though - just a little improvised Romanogers with some stuff I had laying around the house. There’s also a direct quote from an episode of ‘The Pretender’ - bonus points if you find it.
Day 5: The world moves on but we’re forever
Tumblr media
Her reaction was instantaneous upon hearing the noise.
“Twitch and I’ll be washing grey matter off the walls.” The gun was steadily pointed towards the intruder, even if her hands shook the slightest bit. She could barely remember the last time she had slept.
He froze. “Nat, it’s me. It’s just me.” Steve’s soft voice was what took her finger off the trigger and she sighed as she lowered her weapon. He was looking at her in concern before slowly lowering his raised hands and eyeing her carefully as she replaced the gun to its usual place at the bedside table, next to his dog tags.
Shuri – no, queen Shuri now, he reminded himself – had wanted to talk to him and Natasha had left them earlier to get some sleep, even if the haunted look in her eyes left no doubt that she had been struggling with it.
He approached the bed and Natasha watched him carefully, noticing how his initial defensive posture was shed, giving way to something completely different. That haunted and defeated look he had been wearing since… well, since.
It had been barely a day since Thanos had snapped the fingers of that cursed glove and wiped out half the world, a mere twenty four hours after their world had irrevocably changed for the worse. Hours spent mourning the dead, since there was nothing left to bury. There had been attempts to collect some of the ashes of fallen loved ones, but the initial shock had felt like a tidal wave and by the time it processed most of it had scattered in the wind, leaving the ones behind with less than nothing to show for all the love that had been lost.
After the initial pain had subsided to a gut-wrenching feeling of loss, once the screams of agony had quieted down into subdued sobs, the world had finally seemed to settle into an eerie silence.
Thor had already left Earth, gone in search for Tony, taking the weird looking raccoon with him. They were hoping Iron Man could help, hoping he wasn’t yet another one they had lost. Bruce had been shown Shuri’s lab and was supposedly there, trying to come up with answers, a solution for an unsolvable problem. No one would fault him if all he wanted was to be left alone for the time being.
Both Steve and Natasha had allowed themselves this small reprieve. One day to mourn, one day to grieve. It seemed such an insignificant amount of time compared to the magnitude of all they had lost and yet, it was all they could spare.
“I’m sorry I startled you.” He was whispering as he sat at the edge of the bed and soothingly ran a hand through her hair. She had taken a bath, trying to wash away all the grime and sweat from battle – all of the grief – and had changed into one of his shirts. The sight had become as familiar and comforting as Bucky telling him…
Bucky.
Sam.
Wanda.
Vision.
He visibly shook as the memories came flooding back, a thousand moments shared, the laughs and the struggles and the battles, all wiped out in a second as if they had meant nothing. He was suddenly sick to his stomach and out of breath, and felt the dam he had managed to place around those emotions come dangerously close to shattering.
Natasha rose from the bed in a heartbeat, placing a hand on his chin and forcing him to look at her. “Steve!” His name sounded loud enough in the quiet room that he startled, but it had the desired effect. She tried again, bringing her voice down to a soothing whisper. “It’s okay.”
He seemed to snap out of it as he took a great gulp of air before slowly nodding his head at her. “Yeah, I’m…” He swallowed before continuing. “I’m gonna go wash up.”
When he made his way back into the room she was lying back down, seemingly asleep, and he paused as he looked at her. That first meeting on the helicarrier seemed like a life time ago, something unremarkable amidst all that was happening at the time, except for the fact it had somehow thrown them together. It certainly had taken them long enough to get here.
Months of working SHIELD missions together had forged their unique partnership, but it had only been after its downfall – when they had been forced to rely and depend on each other – that Steve had allowed himself to fully trust her. A trust that had yet to be broken, coupled with everything else he now felt for her. Everything he had been feeling for a long time now.
He allowed himself a small smile as he remembered the day they had found each other again, after the Accords had brought everything crashing down on them.  Asking her to run away with him – even if he only half meant those words back then – had been one of the smartest decisions in his life. Bucky had been so proud, even if he and Sam had teased the hell out of him, once Nat told them the story.
Steve moved quietly as he crept into bed and laid down next to her, staring off into space. The urge to come nearer, to pull her closer and feel her warmth seeping into his bones was immediate but he didn’t act on it.
Instead she did, apparently forgoing sleep in favor of drawing herself as close as possible and placing a hand over his heart. Feeling the steady beat underneath her fingers, the reassuring thump further proving that this was real.
He wrapped his arms around her and let out a deep sigh at the feeling. “We should get some rest.”
She sifted slightly, burying her face in his neck. “Don’t wanna.”
“Nat…”
“I’m scared.” The quiet admission made him sit up, pulling her body along with his. Cradling her head, he looked down at her with a concerned gaze, prodding her to continue. “I’m afraid that if I go to sleep I’ll wake up and realize that…” Her eyes watered as she hesitated. “I’m afraid I’ll realize I lost you too.”
“God, Nat…” He didn’t finish the thought. Instead he kissed her, letting out all his rage and anger and frustration. All the pain at what had happened and all the uncertainty about what was to come. He allowed all the passion he felt for her to rule the kiss, all the want and need and desire to bleed into it. All the love he felt for her.
They were both slightly breathless as they came apart, still close enough for Steve to lay his head against hers as he tried to calm his racing heart. “I never even thought about that. It never crossed my mind.” He pulled back to look into her eyes. “I think my brain couldn’t even come up with the notion that I could lose you. Both of you.” He placed one hand against her belly as the other one tenderly touched her cheek and she closed her eyes momentarily, tilting her head so she could kiss his palm. “It’s the one thing I wouldn’t be able to come back from.”
She brushed her lips against his in a soft caress. “You won’t.” Her voice was strong and steady, without a shadow of hesitation. “You’re not losing us. You and me…” she paused to look down at her belly before locking their eyes together and brushing a hand softly through his beard “… and our little one, we’re forever.”
Her other hand came down to cover his still resting over her belly and laced their fingers together, settling back against him as he laid them both down on the bed. She didn’t know if they’d be able to get any sleep but Steve was right. They needed rest. There was a lot of work to be done come morning.
