Ruki and the Unicorn

Once again Karlheinz invited to the carnival in the demon world. Together with his brothers, Ruki tried to enjoy the spectacle. Somehow lost and not knowing what to do next, the blue-grey eyed vampire wandered restlessly from one place to the next. After a while, a shooting gallery piqued Ruki's interest.

"Let's see if I can hit a bull's-eye."

With just a single shot, Ruki shocked the shooting gallery owner and won. Frustrated, the man handed Ruki his prize. The vampire's cold gaze pointed on his new belonging.

"What is this? What am I supposed to do with this?"

The shooting gallery owner answered quite astonished.

"It's a unicorn plushie to cuddle."

Ruki gave him a stern look.

"Good grief, what nonsense."

For a moment, the black-haired man looked at his new plushie and mumbled.

"Hmm, but somehow it looks cute. It is a horse with a horn. And I like horses. Well, I will take it home with me."

Secretly, Ruki smuggled the plushie home and hid it in his closet. He did not want his brothers to see the unicorn and tease him about it.

A few days later, Ruki is tormented by nightmares in the night. His screams echo through the whole house. Drenched in sweat, the young man woke up gasping in his bed. Thinking of changing his clothes, Ruki got up and went to his closet. Suddenly the plushie caught his eye.

"I had completely forgotten about you."

After putting on a fresh shirt, the vampire took out the unicorn and went back to bed.

"It is all soft and comfy..."

Exhausted, Ruki fell asleep again with the plushie in his arms and went to the land of dreams again. But this time the young man had a beautiful dream. Ruki was riding on the back of a unicorn over meadows and fields. The wind was blowing through his hair. Enjoying the freedom, Ruki beamed all over his face.

The next morning, his brothers wondered why no breakfast was made. Yuma, Kou and Azusa immediately became worried, as they had heard Ruki's screams during the night. Determined to see if Ruki was all right, Azusa made his way to his brother's room. When Ruki did not respond to the knocking, Azusa decided to just go in. Surprised, he found his brother sleeping peacefully. A smile spread across Azusa's lips when he saw Ruki holding a unicorn plushie in his arms.

"Christina. Melissa. Justin. Ruki made a friend. Isn't that awesome?"

Without waking his brother, Azusa left the bedroom. He did not tell Yuma and Kou about the plushie and only shared that Ruki was exhausted from his nightmares and needed some more sleep.

Since that day, Ruki cuddled with his unicorn every now and then when he felt the need for comfort and wanted to enjoy freedom.

Constructed from two sections of whale ivory with a baleen spacer. Well-formed head with inset baleen eyes and applied baleen ears and horn. Fluted wheel with a star-shaped hub supported by the unicorn's front legs. Elegantly formed rear legs and looping tail. c. 20cm long
