Camp nano day 12
Sorry guys, the PAIN BOMB hit, fun is banned, go to your corner and SULK!
Tumblr media
This was always planned; this is where the fake dating plot is introduced, and what that basically means is that now Ayumu and Hina question EVERYTHING about their relationship - was it fake all along? Was there truly no feelings there?
Hope you enjoy Ayumu's suffering!
She turned off the shower and walked over to jump into the bath; it seemed that the hot water immediately pierced all the way to the bone, the heat overwhelming her completely. It would be okay. Just a little longer and she’d be able to get over herself. She dunked her head underwater for a bit, just to clear her head. She must’ve been down for a little too long, for she suddenly sat up, gasping for air. Had she really been in for that long? She had barely even noticed. Sighing, she got out of the bath; would be a pretty bad idea to spend any longer in there for fear of accidentally drowning herself. Her body was quickly cooling down; she grabbed the towel off the hanger to quickly dry herself, putting on a fresh pair of underwear as she sat cross-legged on the washer-dryer, drying her hair. As she turned her gaze towards the hampers that were lined up on the wall right next to where she sat, her eyes fell upon a familiar, bright blue jacket. The mere sight of it made her heart hurt. What had been going through Hina’s head when she’d found that for her? Was there a deeper meaning behind it, or had she just picked out the first blue thing she saw at random? Did she put as much meaning into it as Ayumu had? Questions like that wouldn’t solve anything if she didn’t have the balls to actually ask the person that was in her mind. She looked across the room instead; there was nothing there save for the sink and mirror. She scowled upon realizing she could still see the hamper in the mirror, and jumped down; her hair was just about dry anyway. She put on a loose t-shirt to sleep in before she left the bathroom. Outside was uncomfortable and cold. She quickly felt the cold again; after all, the warmth of a bath was only temporary. It wasn’t something that could actually bring long-term warmth, and surely not to such a cold, petrified heart. Ayumu sat in the living room for a while, watching the night sky through the window; the winters provided shorter days, and longer nights. It was as if she blinked and the daylight had already passed. The mornings were darker too. She sighed, drawing her knees close to her body as she buried her face in her arms. It felt a if she did nothing but sigh lately. She didn’t even have the emotional presence to cry about it. Instead, it was as if she just wallowed quietly in the pain, letting it run through her like a black, poisonous tar corrupting her being. With every passing day, it was as if she lost sight of what had given her such purpose for the past four months. Somehow, it seemed that Hina was still awake when Ayumu texted her; she didn’t know why. It didn’t make her feel better anymore. It was just impossible for her. Two forces were pulling her in equal measure; the part of her that wished to just let it go, to forget about Hina, and the part of her that was hopelessly, helplessly, devastatingly in love with her. Ayumu counted the stars in the sky outside; it was in the middle of town, so the night sky showed only a fraction of what could be seen. In fact, she remembered clearly; her family didn’t live in a big city like this. There were trees and farms as far as the eye could see. Despite that, she’d still found someone to be with at the time; Ayumu wondered what she was doing right about now. They hadn’t as much as talked since she ran away for good. Perhaps, she had managed to find love; Ayumu sure hoped so. She wasn’t much in the mood for going to her bedroom; she wouldn’t be able to look out of the window from there. She grabbed a few blankets from the compartment underneath the sofa, and got comfortable on the plush pillows; she gently watched the night sky as she allowed it to lull her to sleep. In a week or so, she’d be going on that “date” with Hina. Until then, she had to somehow hold out. She closed her eyes; the stars seemed to dot the inside of her eyelids, and for once she was able to relax a little as she fell asleep. Perhaps this was just a sign of her detaching herself emotionally, but if anything, it was a moment of quiet in the storm that was her heart.
Just like I have shower thoughts I also enjoy it when my OCs have big shower thoughts lol. I really like her psyche pulling her in two directions at once; this pull and push will eventually get her to snap LOL

Basket
A basket is a temporary storage device often used to transport objects. Baskets often have handles to ease in carrying, and seldom have lids, leaving them open on the top. Baskets are traditionally woven from thick fibers (but can be made of plastic), and are much lighter than pots, while being much sturdier and more resusable than boxes.
A laundry basket, for example, is used to transport dirty laundry to a washer/dryer and then used to transport clean clothes back to a dresser (though lazy individuals might simply keep their clean clothes in the basket without folding them). A waste basket can be used to capture rubbish, until it is emptied into a larger bin. Basketball is a game where the goal is to get the ball into a basket, though the basket used in the game has evolved into being a net with no bottom.
A 'basketcase' is a person who is crazy, as if their mind is a basket full of random debris. 'Underwater basket weaving' is used as a satirical example of college classes or degrees that are not perceived as useful. This is in stark contrast to the origin of underwater basket weaving (a method to produce baskets where the fibers were woven while sitting in rivers or lakes in order to keep them pliant until they could dry and be hardened in their final form), which was an extremely useful skill in pre-industrial societies.
Your characters might own a handful of baskets, or they might have none. They are unlikely to have strong opinions about the matter.

ACCIDENTALLY FLASHING CLASS 1-A

TODOROKI SHOTO
You guys were doing some training, aka fighting each other 1-1 to improve your quirks and combat
Mr. Aizawa paired you up with Todoroki so you guys immediately got to work, battling each other to see who’d win
You and Todoroki were friends so you weren’t necessarily trying to hurt him, but you did need a little edge if you wanted to win
With that said, you flew into the air using your quirk and leaped over him to dodge his ice attack
Unbeknownst to you though, Shoto just so happened to look up because he was expecting that
But when he did...
He literally froze as he caught sight of your panties, your all-too-revealing hero costume not hiding anything
Eye wide, you were surprised when he made no move to attack you when you landed, instead standing there with his jaw dropped
You had never seen that boy blush so hard, you were actually a little concerned
He was so flustered that the fire on his left side sparking
Concerned, you walked over to him and tapped his shoulder to snap him out of it, Todoroki stumbling back and snapping back to reality
“Uh, Shoto? Are you alright?”
“Y-Yeah, I’m fine...”
No he’s not
The image of your underwear just won’t leave his head, and Todoroki unknowingly starts blushing again
“Um, Mr. Aizawa? Do we have a fire extinguisher by chance? I think Todoroki needs some help...”
BAKUGO KATSUKI
Why did you think that it would be a good idea to entrust your classmates with your laundry?
You wished you hadn’t
Because apparently Deku didn’t know your uniform couldn’t be put in the dryer, so now you were stuck with an extremely tight top and a too small skirt
The revelation left you feeling horrified and exposed, and even though Deku apologized like a million times, it still didn’t change the fact that your new uniform wouldn’t come in for a week
That meant that for seven whole days, you’d be stuck feeling exposed as you walked down the hallways, feeling like everyone was staring at your legs
Fortunately though, nobody made any comments (not even Mineta) so you thought that you’d be in the clear
And you had almost forgotten about the mishap by day 5, which was why you didn’t even think about bending down and retrieving your dropped pencil — right in front of Bakugo
In an instant, he froze, jaw dropping as he got a glimpse of your bright yellow panties before standing back up
Not knowing that he had been behind you, you made your way over to the couch as planned to study
Bakugo however...was still frozen
And it took you a while to even notice the boy, a deep frown settling on your face when you realized that he had come in...silently?
“Um Bakugo? Are you feeling alright? Your face...it’s kinda purple...”
“F-Fine...”
Turns out he wasn’t, too busy replaying what he had just seen that the man had stopped breathing
You’re even more worried when he continues to be silent, wordlessly turning around to go back to his room
“Bakugo?”
“I SAID IM FINE!”
Yeah he’s down bad
KIRISHIMA EIJIRO
It was summer which that it was time for two things — swimming and swim suits
Both of which Ei was looking forward to, but he never imagined it like this
One day, while everyone else was out doing whatever, you and Ei reserved the pool to play some volleyball
You were wearing a really cute bikini, one that you had chose because you thought the straps would be sturdy enough
That turned out to not be the case however when you jumped out of the water, top falling the minute you spiked the ball over to Ei
Poor baby was so surprised that he completely forgot to dodge, and the ball ended up hitting his forehead really hard
Not that he felt it though, due to his quirk and due to the fact that he had just seen your boobs
Was this...real?
Your embarrassed yelp and the fact that you dove underwater to retrieve it let him know that yes — that was real
And Ei fucking lost it
He immediately began apologizing, turning away as you scrambled to cover yourself up and yelling something about being manly (not that you were paying attention but he tried to give you as much privacy as he could)
Poor baby was as red as his hair, looking everywhere but your eyes as you turned back around sheepishly
“Sorry about that,” You muttered, embarrassed. “Still wanna go another round?”
“S-Sure.”
He shouldn’t have said that
Cause he lost horribly, due to the fact that he couldn’t stop replaying that moment over and over again

Get Your Frustrations Out on Me
Tumblr media
Pairing: Charlie McAvoy x reader
Type: Smut
Warnings: Smut, swearing, oral (m receiving), blowjob, fingering, 18+
Word Count: 1.7k
Summary: You and Charlie were strictly friends with benefits. It had started from a drunken one night stand that turned into something a little bit more. After a rough day at work, you were in desperate need of Charlie’s touch.
Smut Prompt #65: “There are only two reasons you’d call me at one in the morning and judging from the way you’re dressed nobody’s dead”
A/N: I feel personally victimized by that GIF this man is so pretty
~~~~
It was past midnight and you were still awake. Normally, you were out like a light by ten. But not tonight. You had had one of the worst days anybody could possibly imagine. A total dickhead working on a project with you undermined the entire thing and absolutely fucked you, and numerous other people, over for the rest of the month.
You mulled the idea over in your head for the third straight hour. Your phone was sitting right beside you, it would be an easy call to make. Charlie would probably still be awake, he never seemed to be sleeping during the summer.
By the time the blinking red numbers on the alarm clock on your night stand hit one, you caved. You reached for your phone and tapped Charlie’s contact.
“Hello?” he answered on the second ring.
“Hey,” your voice was tense. “Uhm, can I come over?”
You could almost see Charlie smirking on the other end of the line.
“Yeah,” he was quick to respond. “You know your way up.”
You felt like your head was underwater as you made the drive over to Charlie’s apartment. Few other cars were on the road, but it was still Boston so you didn’t get there as quick as you would have liked to.
The elevator moved too slow for your liking, but you were soon knocking on Charlie’s door.
“There are only two reasons you’d call me at one in the morning and judging from the way you’re dressed nobody’s dead,” he said as he opened the door. You looked down at your silk sleep shorts and tank top. “Come in.”
Your lips were on his the second the door was shut behind you. His eyes widened in surprise before he gently pushed you off of him.
“Hey, slow down,” he said, his hands on your shoulder. “What’s wrong?”
“I’m sorry,” you sighed. “I’m just frustrated.”
“Wanna talk about it?”
“No,” you shook your head. “I just need to get my frustrations out.”
“I can do that,” Charlie smiled, kissing you again. He was gentle, letting you set the pace you wanted to move at. You tangled your fingers in his hair and shoved him against the wall. He let out a soft moan that you claimed as you kept kissing him. His hands rested on your hips, his fingers sure to leave bruised.
“Bedroom. Now,” you commanded breathlessly. Charlie nodded and connected your lips again, walking backwards towards his bedroom, relying on muscle memory to not let him bump into anything.
You reached the bedroom unscathed, and instantly shoved him down to the mattress. He landed with a small grunt.
You pulled your tank top over your head and discarded it somewhere in the room before crawling up his body. Charlie’s hands migrated from your hips to your ass where they played with the soft flesh. Your lips attacked his neck, peppering kisses and leaving behind purple hickeys. Groans and pants ripped from his throat. You balled his t-shirt in your fists. He sat up and pulled it over his head and tossed it to the ground with your tank top.
“I’ll never get over this,” Charlie whispered huskily before attaching his lips to one of your nipples. You whimpered, tossing your head back in pleasure.
His hands and lips worked you to cloud nine before you came back down and resumed your actions. You planted your hands against his chest and pushed him back down the bed. You kissed down his chest, lips leaving a trail of goosebumps in their wake. Charlie was a groaning mess by the time you followed his happy trail down to the waistline of his shorts. You hooked your fingers over the edge and pulled them down his legs. His cock sprung free, a bead of pre-cum leaking from the tip.
“Y/N, please,” Charlie whimpered helplessly.
You licked a wide stripe along the vein on the underside of his dick before taking him in your mouth. You swirled your tongue around his lip, using his moans to keep going. Inch by inch, you took him in your mouth until you couldn’t fit any more.
Charlie’s moans grew louder as you hollowed your cheeks around him. You threw your forearm over his hips to keep him in place and stop him from bucking deeper into your mouth. His thighs started shaking when you bobbed your head up and down.
“Jesus,” he muttered. The muscles in his abs clenched as he tried to keep himself together.
You pulled off your hip, moving to kitten lick his tip before taking him again.
“God, Y/N,” he moaned. “I’m close. I’m so, so close.”
You hummed around him, the vibrations sending him over the edge. Hot ropes of seed hit the back of your throat. You swallowed and let him fall from your mouth.
“Always so good,” Charlie pulled you up and kissed you, tasting himself on your lips. He used the leverage he had against you and flipped you onto your back.
“Charlie-”
“Let me take care of you too,” he hummed seductively. You relaxed into the pillows as he kissed his way down your body. He slowly pulled your shorts off your legs, leaving you in nothing but your underwear. He kissed above the elastic waistline before taking it in his teeth and pulling it off too.
His rough hands spread your legs apart, exposing your dripping pussy to him. He licked his lips before pressing his index finger to your clit. You jumped in surprise, not expecting the sudden pressure.
Charlie dragged his finger through your slick folds before finally pushing it inside you. You groaned, your hands moving to lace through Charlie’s hair.
“More, please,” you whimpered, arching your back off the mattress. Charlie threw his forearm over your hips just as you had done to him and added another finger. You moaned loudly.
He trailed his lips up the inside of your thigh, nipping at the skin and leaving small purple bruises. His fingers pumped in and out of you, making obscene noises. Your thighs began to shake under his touch. Charlie, with his surprisingly acute knowledge of your body, knew you were close. He was hard just from seeing your walls flutter around his fingers.
“Come on, baby,” Charlie cooed. “I know you’re almost there.”
With one sharp twist of his fingers, he hit your g-spot making you spasm around his digits. He smirked to himself as he watched you come undone. He sucked your cum off his fingers, making you moan again as you made direct eye contact with him.
“So sweet,” he hummed, voice thick with lust.
“Charlie,” you reached out for him. He laced his fingers with yours and pinned your hand to the mattress beside your head as he crawled on top of you. Your legs came to wrap around his hips.
His lips connected with yours as he reached to his nightstand for a condom. He kneeled above you as he ripped it open and slid in on. You gulped, your eyes darted from his dick back up to his face.
He took your hand again and slowly slid inside you, both eliciting pornographic moans. He stilled for a moment, before rocking hips back and forth setting a smooth pace. You moved your hips to meet his, making each thrust hit deeper.
“God, Charlie,” you moaned. He squeezed your hand and kept going.
A thin sheen of sweet covered his chest as he placed a hand on the headboard to keep his balance. He grunted as his pace sped up. You felt him hit that spot inside you with every thrust. The muscles in his lower back flexed every time he moved.
Even though he felt like he could for hours longer, he knew he was close to his edge. He never could last very long very long when he was with you. You were the same way. He always seemed to be able to reduce to a moaning mess within minutes.
“Charlie,” you whimpered, clinging to his bicep as your body spasmed around him. He came seconds after you with a loud moan. He pulled out and landed beside you on the mattress before quickly rolling off and disappearing into the bathroom. He came back with a damp washcloth in hand. Your breathing returned to normal as he cleaned up. You found your strength and stood up when he went back to the bathroom.
“What are you doing?” he asked when he came back and saw you pulling on your clothes.
“Going home like I usually do,” you answered like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Oh,” he said, feeling his heart sink. “Do you, maybe, want to stay?”
You froze.
“You’re asking me to stay with you?”
“I mean, yeah,” Charlie shrugged. “You seemed really upset, I don’t want you to feel like you need to go home.”
You looked at him in confusion.
“I mean, a quick fuck is great and all but cuddling is where the real comfort is at,” he grinned. You giggled and finished pulling your tank top over your head.
“Alright,” you agreed, moving to climb back in bed.
“Wait,” Charlie stopped you. “Use the bathroom if you need to, take a shower if you want, I’m going to change the sheets.”
You took him up on his offer to use the shower. The warm water felt amazing as it washed over your tense muscles. When you stepped out, there was a warm towel waiting for you and a pair of what you assumed to be Charlie’s sweatpants. The ‘73′ in gold lettering proved your theory correct. They too were warm when you pulled them on.
“Did you throw these in the dryer or are your clothes naturally this comfortable?” you asked as you walked out of the bathroom, depositing your used towel in the hamper next to the closet.
“I put them in the dryer,” Charlie affirmed. “Are they comfortable enough for you?”
“These are literally the softest things I have ever worn.”
“Come on,” Charlie smiled, opening his arms as he made himself comfortable in bed. Cuddle with me.”
“You’re adorable,” you sighed as climbed in beside him, your head resting on his chest.
“I know.”
Despite Charlie’s smooth answer, he was waging a full scale war in his brain. Over the course of your friends with benefits endeavors he had slowly fallen for you. He knew you promised not to ever let that happen, but this was something he couldn’t avoid. He knew, he tried.
our student-taught swimming unit of gym has arrived- and oh boy. i have not been to the pool in years, much less for swimming lessons. since i can’t be bothered to type the whole thing out in long form (and since that’d probably be really boring) here’s a list of the interesting bits:
stepping out of the change room and realizing just how bad my vision is; i couldn’t even see my teacher who was waving his arms wildly from the bleachers. luckily my eyes detected mild movement and he was yelling very loudly
realizing the horror of putting your head underwater without goggles
discovering that my swim suit does not support my boobs at all
everyone finding solace in the fact that no one wanted to be seen in front of everyone else in a swim suit
realizing it’s been many years since i last swam and oh boy, i have no endurance whatsoever.
mutually bonding with the other people in my group (beginner) over the fact that none of us can swim to the end of the pool and back without stopping to catch our breath
the pool regulars giving us weird looks
all but two people in my group having terrible eyesight and needing multiple demonstrations of everything because we can’t tell what’s going on, myself included
getting kicked out of the hot tub for not being 49+ (in our defense, there was no signage, and if there was, most of us wouldn’t’ve been able to read it)
realizing that the one thing that stuck with me from swimming lessons was my uncanny ability to get shower and get dressed with dried hair in around eleven minutes and waiting awkwardly in front of the vending machines waiting for everyone else
people being scandalized over the fact that my hair doesn’t get poofy after i wash it (mostly my two friends, who end up looking like a poofy lion and a ball of yarn that’s gone through the dryer respectively)
Hunt for Sunken Slave Ship Off South Florida Coast
Divers are in the waters of Biscayne National Park and trying to solve a mystery almost two centuries old.
The underwater archeologists with the National Park Service are out to make rare find. They are on a hunt for a ship called the Guerrero that was carrying slaves to the Americas.
"The possibility of finding a ship like the Guerrero is highly significant," said Dr. Fritz Hanselmann with the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.
"There have only been two identified slave ship wrecks in the archeological record to date which makes the Guerrero of extreme importance."
On the day we went into the water with Hanselmann and National Park Service archeologist Joshua Marano, they were diving in a location about 15 miles southeast of Homestead.
Marano had his writing tablet clutched in his arms when he heads underwater. He doesn't want to miss documenting the slightest detail. After all, he's looking for something no one has been able to find for 200 years.
"It's a significant story in South Florida that hasn't really been told," Marano said. "It was a pirate slave ship that was carrying 561 enslaved Africans across from Africa in 1827."
Here's the history of what happened, according to the Park Service. It's a story that's been made into a documentary funded by the National Park Service.
In the 1820's, slavery was still legal in the US. Pirates took over the slave trade across the Atlantic because both the US and Great Britain had outlawed transporting them.
A British warship named the Nimble was out on a mission to stop pirates and the crew spotted the Guerrero off the South Florida coastline and started to attack.
A naval gun battle ensued and while trying to escape the Nimble, the Guerrero ran aground and eventually sank. The British ship did too. The Nimble's logs were used to provide some information, but no one has been able to determine exactly where the ships went under.
"If you read the log of the Nimble, which has been preserved, it says it gave chase to a suspicious looking brig sighted off of its bow," Marano said. "They ended up chasing each other and had a running gun battle with one another until they didn't exactly know where they were."
Of those enslaved on the Guerrero when it sank, 41 died. The pirates manning the ship hijacked two other ships that had come to help the Guerrero. The pirates took the 500 remaining slaves to Cuba. Some, Marano says, ultimately were sent to Florida.
The National Park Service divers and the other researchers started out with about a thousand linear miles to search.
They've done about half of that and now they have about 500 what they call 'anomalies' to take a closer look at to see if it leads them to the Guerrero.
They use an underwater metal detector pulled behind a boat that alerts them where to look. They'll sometimes use a device that looks like a large blow dryer to clear the sand on the ocean floor.
NBC 6 Photojournalist John Lang captured video of the divers scanning the bottom when they came across what may have been a rib making up the hull of a vessel.
These locations are marked and items are placed in plastic bags to bring on land to investigate.
"One of the sites that we've found was an actual dump of cannon balls and other heavy objects," Marano said. "We've recovered some of those objects and conserve them to hopefully see if there was any kind of mark or marking or anything like that may tell us whether or not this came from a British warship."
The search is made more difficult with the passage of time and nature's impact on what's on the ocean's floor.
"The problem is as ship wrecks sit underwater they tend to work to become one with their environment and reach equilibrium. And so corals grow over them, they kind of degrade," Marano told us. "They become very difficult to differentiate and identify individual features."
While items may look the same to the untrained eye, the quest to know more motivates these researchers. "The ones that we are looking for provide us with a physical connection to our past and allow us to actually interact with those who preceded us and learn more about them," Hanselmann said.
The hope is the searches can produce results like some of the well documented wrecks in the National Park not far away that have been preserved.
For Marano and the other researchers, there's a lot of work to do. "The Gulf Stream just off shore of the Florida Keys, I always like to refer to it as the maritime equivalent of I-95 or maybe the Turnpike." Marano said. "Everything that ever traveled through the Florida Keys, particularly during the age of sail, had to pass ridiculously close to the Florida Keys."
And he says that would include the still missing Guerrero.
How to Unshrink Clothes using Baby Shampoo
It occurs even to the finest of us: a sweater or pair of jeans earn throw into the dryer on high and are now a size lesser or just smaller than they can be. Technically speaking, you should never “unshrink” clothes. Anyhow, relief the fibers enough to extend them back into shape. Please find the few things to go about it.
Baby Shampoo Soak :
Filled up a sink with slightly heat water. Filled up your sink with at least 1 quart of slightly heat water. Point out the knitted clothes, like cotton, cashmere, wool. Reply to this tactic better than fabrics with tight weaves,silk,rayon. The water can be about room temperature if not a tiny warmer. Don’t use hot or cold water.
Blend in with baby shampoo. For every 1 quart of water blend in roughly t tablespoon of baby shampoo, moving it into the water until it get on a slick, soapy thickness. Baby shampoo can relief the fibers of your shrunken clothes. Because the fibers are relieved, they got easier to extend and manage, meaning that you will be ready to extend the garment back to an suitable size. Soak the garments in your soapy water. Submerge the shrunken clothes in your soapy solution, Ensure that it is fully covered
Allow it soak for 30 minutes or so. If want, you can start softly extending the clothes underwater as it soaks, but this is not strictly needed.
Wring dry. Get the clothes from your soapy solution and turning it into a ball, compressing tightly to wring out extra moisture not rinse the clothes. The soapy water required to maintain actively relieving the fibers as you work on extending and re-shaping the clothes.
Restraint excess moisture out between two towels. Lay a big towel out flat and fix the clothes on top of it. Steadily roll up the towel with the clothes still inside. The garments should drench inside the towel for around 10 minutes. When finished, it can be wet.
Extend the clothes out and hold them in suitable place. Unroll the towel and transmit the clothes onto a second flat, dry towel. Softly extend the clothes back into its normal shape and hold the shape in place by attaining the edges with large objects
If you have a tough time extending the clothing out as it looks too hard, use steam to create the clothes easier to handle. Possible weights for holding the extended cloths in place include paperweights etc.
If you don’t have any large objects nearby, you can use garments pins to pin the damp garments to the towel, instead.Allow air dry. let the wet garments to continue dry flat until the staying moisture has left.If you have your garments pinned to the towel instead of weighed down, you can place your garments on a hanger and allow them hang dry in a sunny location. The pressure can help extend the clothes out further.
Sector Two is far from Mina’s favorite place in the world, but it looks enough like one giant Concern factory that she has no qualms about going there every so often, if only to wreak a little havoc. Or to find a food store where the owner hasn’t gotten suspicious of her yet.
Today, though, she’s climbing around the lower levels of some industrial complex when she hears the ocean, slips through a door labeled “CAUTION: RESTRICTED ENTRY/EXIT - DO NOT PROP OPEN” that’s propped open with a brick, and comes out onto a small black-sand beach. It doesn’t look like the kind of place one would want to swim or sunbathe in, but Mina’s not interested in taking a day off. She’s more intrigued by the large glass tube a few meters away, leading from the side of the building straight into the sea.
There’s people in it, going both directions. It looks just like the one up to the surface from the tunnels where her house is. Do people live underwater here, just like they live underground in Sector One? If they do...
Tumblr media
She has to check this out. Mina runs over, tests it - and lo and behold, the weird phase-through-the-glass thing works here too. People aren’t going quite so fast as they do back in One, but there are reasonably-paced moving sidewalks in both directions. Mina hops on the one leading down, toward whatever’s happening beneath the waves, noting that everyone coming the opposite direction is...well, soaked. Hopefully, if she gets dunked, it won’t be a total surprise.
The tube slopes steeply downward, then levels out, approaching...she can’t quite see what past the person in front of her, but it looks like a humongous structure of some sort. She’s surprised how much light reaches this deep - the water must be incredibly clear, almost impossibly so for all it’s right next to the most polluted sector.
And then she’s in the shadow of the structure and she can see it’s...another city. Another city, at least the size of a whole sector on the surface, entirely submerged, colonized by fish and coral. She can see that it’s surrounded by some sort of near-transparent bubble, through which she can see people both walking on the half-sand-covered sidewalks and swimming above them. Swimming looks almost like flying, here.
At some point, Mina’s mouth has become an O of wonder. She does not give a shit. How has she never found this place before?!
Ahead of her, the tube approaches a flexible membrane of some sort - must be the bubble, there’s a half-crumbled tarmac street on the other side. Looks like another phase thing. Mina steps off the moving sidewalk, hesitating off to the side. She puts her hand through the bubble; it comes back wet.
Okay, now she’s concerned. It’s a long, long way to the surface. Will she be able to breathe?
A passing person seems to have noticed her dilemma. “It’s fine, you don’t need gills,” they inform her. “You can breathe water like air in there.” They chuckle. “Not the weirdest thing in this city, not by a long shot...” They slip through the bubble and swim off. They look like a completely normal human, no gills or anything.
Mina removes her boots, socks, gloves, and flaring sleeve-things, wrapping it all up in the fabric decoration she takes off her belt so it forms a neat package. As an afterthought, she slips her phone out of her shirt (really, where else is she going to keep it??) and into the ball of clothes as well. Maybe it’ll stay dryer that way.
Then she takes a deep, excited breath, and dives in.
It’s water. It’s seawater, just like she’s used to; though she’d rather it was a little warmer, it’s not unlivable. And even though she’s not a fish, she seems to be able to control her buoyancy like one. Breathing feels just like it did outside, so normal that it takes her a couple seconds to realize that’s probably not just air in her lungs. Sound is normal, sight is normal, the water tastes salty but salty like an ocean breeze, not nearly as much so as normal seawater - really, it acts exactly like air, except that it feels wet and she can swim in it.
And if the coral and grimy metal buildings and sailboat-like current surfers they have in lieu of cars don’t make Mina think instantly of home, then nothing else in this whole damn city does.
The decision practically makes itself.
Fuck it. She’s not going back to her hut for lunch. She may not even go back to her hut at all. The tunnels can go to shit. Hell, the aboveground sectors can go to shit. There’s nowhere else in Hive she’d rather be.
