I have this irl friend and they're a great friend, super sweet and super talented but uh... something they said just doesn't sit right with me at all...

So I was talking to them about Palestine, because it came up on my feed and asked if they had/intended on making posts or reposts or art on the matter and they said no.

Now I am NOT one to force or judge but it did get me curious, so I asked why not, just to understand, and they said they didn't wanna get involved. Alright, understandable I suppose. But I double checked that they knew what was going on and they said yep. Again, I get it but the way they responded was like if id asked them about what they ate for breakfast. Just a complete lack of care and absence of empathy. I guess it showed on my face that i was kinda like 'uhh dude what?' because they started getting really defensive and just saying things like "I just dont wanna get involved I dont wanna be a part of it its not my problem." Once again, COMPLETELY understandable. A bit strange, but I can see why.... but the WAY they said it was really really off-putting, so I dug deeper and asked why specifically they didnt wanna get involved. Not to judge, just to understand their way of seeing it, but their response genuinely made my jaw drop.

They said that they don't care and shouldn't care because it wasn't happening in the USA. It. Wasn't. Happening. To. Us. THAT'S why they didn't care. Not out of fear or being uncomfortable. Because It wasn't taking place in our country.

Yeah my face showed how fucked up I thought it was.

Maybe I'm overreacting but I'm genuinely off-put by them now.

NAME.  William ‘Billy’ Russo AGE.  uhhh i have it set late 20′s to early 30′s though its probably most like somewhere in his 30′s SPECIES.   human GENDER.   trans male ORIENTATION.  pansexual. his romantic orientation is mostly into men. i kind of classify it as demiromantic but he calls himself gay sometimes idk. he doesn’t like labels despite that i labelled his sexuality lol. he does what he wants. INTERESTS.   baseball, playing card games, playing piano, drawing, flirting, fashion, partying, sex, guns, violence PROFESSION.  ceo / gang owner / criminal. its verse dependent. in his dc verse he’s a security guard but turns into a criminal. BODY TYPE.  slim / slender, he’s built slightly. he’s tall because he never skipped leg day. EYES.    dark brown. they almost look like black holes sometimes. which is really accurate because the more i stare the more i get sucked in. HAIR.    black, undercut, usually slicked back. in s2 he has it shaved but it grows back. the first time sander driesen laid eyes on his boyfriend, it had been a chilly october night and the icy blue light from the clear night sky bounced off him much in the same way the sun’s rays reflected off the moon.

that was months ago. the temperatures have long since risen and sander knows now what his favorite season is, because robbe is even more beautiful in the summertime—all honey-golden skin and salt in his hair and his.

he teaches sander how to surf—or tries to. they mostly end up paddling around on their boards after sander is thrown off for the fourth time and gives robbe his best sad-puppy eyes and a pleading kiss with pouting lips. robbe surrenders easily, as expected.

at one point sander slips into the water and clambers onto robbe’s board, making sure that his own is still tethered securely to his ankle before he wraps his limbs around robbe and licks hungrily into his mouth. he tastes the sting of the ocean on robbe’s tongue, or maybe the snap-crackle of fireworks.

robbe has his legs hooked over sander’s so that he’s more sitting on his lap than the board at this point, his wet hair even messier than usual from sander running his hands through it. sander’s own hair must be sticking every which way from how robbe hasn’t stopped tugging at the bleached strands. his roots are aching but it’s absolutely worth all of the little noises that robbe will make each time sander nips at the curve of his jaw or presses his fingertips into the purple bruises he’d left, quite conspicuously, on robbe’s collarbone last night.

he traces the ridges of robbe’s spine and the veins in his arms and the freckles on his nose, and then he pushes robbe into the water, barking out a laugh when robbe resurfaces, sputtering and flailing to get a solid grip on the board.

“still can’t swim, i see,” sander teases him.

robbe retaliates by deftly pulling the board out from under sander so that he tumbles in as well. after a considerable amount of yelling and splashing and laughing, they hang onto the board from either side, hands interlocked between them, letting their legs drift freely with the rolling waves.

robbe gives him that smile, the one that sander knew he’d fall for before he’d even gotten a chance to see it, warm as the sun and twice as bright. sander leans in to kiss it, savoring the brilliance of a thousand sunrises and sunsets, and all the days and nights in between.

he knows that he’ll never feel cold again.
