Colour variation in chonky secret mustards AKA large yellow underwing moths AKA Noctua pronuba. It's still not the weather to put up the moth-trap shelter yet 😭 These chonks visited in the autumn.
Please remember to be kind to moths, and if you're in the UK like me; don't be too hasty to clear away dead leaves and winter foliage around the place. Moths are an important part of your local ecosystem. Right now moth caterpillars are a crucial baby bird food!
Thank you from the Moth Promotional Board ✨🦋✨

Fungi February: The candy cap's unique aroma makes it one of the few mushrooms that are just as good in desserts as in entrees. As a little brown mushroom, there are numerous lookalikes, some of which are toxic.
Disclaimer: Don’t rely on pictures of cute mushrooms with eyes to accurately identify edible mushrooms. At best the wrong one will taste bad, at worst it’ll be deadly!

Clearwing moths are a family of moths known for their Batesian mimicry of various Hymenoptera including wasps, hornets, and bees. Their large size and hovering movements mean that they're also often mistaken for hummingbirds. ©JanV

So I went to roughly where the place I live would be in AC Valhalla (well, I took a guess because the map is quite contacted)... And found a big old lichen-covered tree in the woods. The only thing that could make this more me is if there were moths all over it, heh ^_^
I may have been comfort-gaming. Don't judge me, my muscle spasm treatment is delayed, again. I wasn't ready to go back to being this uncomfortable yet. Thank fck for video games.

Back on my video game botany bullshit! My BG3 sketchbook is underway now. I never shoulda let Maria get me into another game to fixate on, lol... Making a note of each plant/fungi/lichen as I find it. Not sure how many I'll get time to draw, but it's still fun. Never played a game with turn based combat before, so I'm getting through it sooo sloooooowly, but I love the world and characters and many maaany plants <3

What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?
An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:
I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.
Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.
A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)
So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.

Lepe beach, Hampshire - IRL & in AC Valhalla
AC Valhalla is the first video game I've played that has a lot of recognisable placesI go to IRL/have lived in. So when I go somewhere new that I think might exist in the ACV map, I look for it when I get home to see what was similar (or not.) Because I'm a massive nerd ig? Anyway... This weekend I ended up at Lepe beach in Hampshire. Lepe nr Exbury is a place with a lot of history. Weather was terrible for pics, but screencaps? Not so much a problem.

This what's on the ACV map, roughly where Lepe & Exbury would be. You do get a pretty similar view of the Isle of Wight at Lepe.
Tumblr media
In the other direction you can see the Needles. IRL you can see where the needles would be if visibility didn't suck! Also nobody actually let me climb on their boat and start fishing. Unfair.

Plants & toxic arrows
The seaweed on the shore and gorse growing above the tideline in the game are true to life. There was evidence of salt tolerant grasses too, but there were less wild flowers out. Cos it's February and it's still tittyfucking freezing. But...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...What I did see was salt marshes, which are kinda missing in game. The kind of fluffy bushy greyish lichens we see around in ACV were here though.
IRL there's sea spurge coming up right now - and that has toxic sap, which supposedly was used historically to poison the tips of arrows. So who knows... Maybe that's something that would have been handy in Eivor's day.

Gotta say though, at this time of year the view is a lot more atmospheric in game!
