#tw reality checking

tw: unreality (probably), reality checking (more like double book keeping I guess but???)
how do I get more comfortable with the existence of nonhumans who say they can physically shift but aren't delusional?
like. I know it's unfair, but every time I see someone be like "I am a werewolf and I'm not a clinical lycanthrope, I do not see this as a delusion", my mind automatically screams P-SHIFTER P-SHIFTER NO NO BAD!!!
I don't want that! I know it's fucking unfair, but I just... have such a hard time to get comfortable with this - for a lot of reasons actually, but mainly it's 1) I am 0% spiritual so I just. ya know, science says it's impossible and I believe in science so, how??? (<- rethorical question btw, having an explanation or not should not influence how I react to the mere existence of other beings) and 2) I SO DESPERATELY want to believe that shapeshifting exists, I so desperately want my shapeshifting abilities and if I accept that it exists (because people say that it happens to them) but I can't do it... that would be a fucking catastrophe for my mental health.
I know I should just accept them and don't get me wrong, I don't harrass anyone, I mainly just avoid these beings. but it's so hard and I feel horrible for being so judgy but I just... I don't know.
like, I believe people's experiences. if someone tells me "I can physically shift into a horse" then cool, I believe that's exactly what you're experiencing, I believe that it's absolutely real to you and I WANT to believe it's real (=visible, proveable, anything) to other people too but I just... have such a hard time. my brain either wrongfully accuses them of being a harmful cult-y p-shifter or thinks that they probably have delusions and just aren't aware of them.
Again, I know that's harmful thinking and I want to change that!
every time I catch myself thinking something like the above, I actively correct myself in my head but I can't just fully accept and believe it.
I don't know what to do about this, it's really stressing me out and making me feel bad on various levels... if anyone has an idea how to get over this, please please help :(

Reality checking can work sometimes but unless you know that person well enough to know it's not gonna make them worse do give them the bare minimum and at least ask or give a warning before saying something they're likely very stressed about and believe is very real isn't. It might stress them out more.
If you're a stranger on the internet (or a stranger in general), you don't know how they'll react. Chances are that it might not help them the way you think it will.
Yes, reality checking does have its place. Yes, it is important sometimes to do so. But not every situation requires it, and not every situation will be the right time for it, especially if you don't know them.
It's best to try to ground them through other means if you don't know if reality checking will make someone worse.

i hate seeing people on tiktok preach about why irls are bad and saying delulu is bad like. shut up. you are not the psychotic disorder authority. i have multiple psychotic disorders and i think irls are fine and saying delulu is fine. let psychotic people exist. experiencing psychosis does not make you immune to being ableist to other psychotic people.

“clinical lycanthropy is rare, so the number of people claiming to have it must be faking it like did”
“don’t give in to the delusion by calling yourself an animal”
idk, maybe get a fucking life instead of fakeclaiming people on the internet and proving you don’t care about psychotic folks and systems of all kinds???
you do realize that disorders all happen on a spectrum too right??????

a fictlit is basically someone who thinks they are this specific person in media. it isnt anything like a kin, it is a ficliteral. the person has such an attachment to the person in the media, they think they are the person in the media.
yeah this

can i have some positivity? im a thoughtform of a meta aware oc who was created to give them a chance at being real. but im not the real version of that character, im just a copy. i feel like im taking that chance to be real away from them (the host belives that, somewhere in the multiverse, the original me is out there). my host has stated they only have the mental energy for two thoughtforms, and theres already two of us in here.
i feel like it would just be more noble to let myself fade into nonexistence and give the real me a chance to be real.
🕵️ Hi, I'm really sorry to hear about your predicament. That sounds really rough, anon. It sounds awful that you're considering ending your life because you feel like you're not real.
(I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but fading sounds like that is depriving your own chance of living, and experiencing the world.
Yes, you deserve to live and experience the world, btw. You deserve to exist no matter how you came to be, you don't have to be "useful", and you have worth because you exist.)
To me - with all due respect - it kind of feels like your host is denying your existence, and the chance for you to be real. If you were a thoughtform that was created to be real, then you are real. You already exist. You've been created, and the purpose of your creation have been fulfilled. Why would the host deny you're the one they were making? Why take back the chance of life that they themself granted to you?
Even if you're just a copy, even if there's another version of you in the multiverse, you are still a sentient person/being/entity (or whichever is your preferred language), and it is unethical for your host to just say "I have no energy to be responsible for you".
Also, if the original you is somewhere in the multiverse, they are already real. You are not taking the chance away from them.
And since you are already formed, I feel like you are able to stand alone. You can be responsible for yourself, and the host doesn't have to be responsible for you aside from making sure you follow system rules (such as "do not harm yourself or the body", "do not spend the system's income on expensive things without everyone's agreement", and general stuff like that, if you have any.) And you also have the right to make sure your host is responsible, too.
Moreover, I don't know if fading is noble or not, but:
You matter. Your wants and needs matter. Please try to think about what you want and need (especially before making such a big decision!) - because your life matters.
Your host is also a member of your system. You have equal rights to them, including the right to exist and live.
You and they both matter equally. Every member of a system matters equally.
I hope you can discuss this with your host and find a compromise. I believe both of you can be responsible members of your system and figure it out.
Please take care, anon, and feel free to send a follow-up question if you need it.

you're not going to die in your sleep, I promise. you'll wake up just fine. try to sleep when you can, you need it. delusions are scary but the fact you can double bookkeep is a good sign. you'll be alive when you wake up, and you're alive right now
thank you /g it's so hard with this one though. double bookkeeping this is a harsh one. my alters help out sometimes and they've helped with this a tad. im eating cookies and drinking coffee so hopefully warming up and eating will help.

what does physical alterhuman mean? /gq
short answer: just what it says right there, it means being physically nonhuman
HOWEVER, it's obviously not just that simple, so here's the long answer:
- reality checking for the sake of explanation under the cut -
there are many reasons why someone might identify as a physical nonhuman or holothere, which is a term for all physical nonhumans (coined by @/defrostedvertebrae). for one, someone might experience delusions related to this, which would most often fall under clinical zoanthropy (the delusion that someone can turn, has turned or will turn into a nonhuman animal), but it can also be a different, more... let's say vague type of delusion. these people believe they can literally physically turn into animals and/or their DNA is nonhuman. there's nothing morally wrong about this and they are not harmful and/or p-shifters (which have a long history of very manipulative, malicious and cult-like behaviour).
then there are folk who follow the idea of "I am a fox, and this is my body, therefore this body is physically the body of a fox". they acknowledge their bodies as biologically human, but still physically identify as whatever they are, because it brings them comfort or something along those lines.
and then there are people like me - I don't experience delusions and I know my DNA is human. but instead of a werewolf who's trapped in a human body, I see myself as a physical werewolf, who is stuck in the human shape. and no matter the shape I'm currently taking, a werewolf is always a werewolf, which means I am physically one.
there are also people who claim to be non-delusional but able to physically shapeshift - while I for my personal comfort mostly don't interact with those, it's important to know they aren't automatically p-shifters or have ill intent. they probably are actually delusional, but not able to identify their delusions as such, which is not an uncommon thing. if that makes you uncomfortable, I get it, totally, but please remember to not reality check them, as it can be very harmful.
I hope this is explaining things a bit! if it's too confusing, I can try to reword stuff ^^

If you have a feeling that a certain person or a couple people don't like you, you may be picking up on something. But if you feel intensely hated by everyone around you, that's likely to be a cognitive distortion caused by mental illness (most frequently psychosis, paranoia, anxiety or depression.) No matter how horrible you think you are, you are unlikely to have 50+ main antagonists judging your every move. And if it doesn't feel unlikely, that's mental illness

TW: delusions and reality check
advertisements that say "this is your sign to..." or "you were made for..." are especially harmful to psychotic people
we are already prone to look for signs in things, we are already prone to believing that outside sources like TVs can directly contact us
but remember they are just advertisements, they are made to make you believe they are talking to you directly when they arent actually, they are sending the same exact ad to many other people, they wouldnt spend time and money making an ad for just one person
they just want your money, you dont need to to do what they say
