How about the Fellowship reacting to their youngest member (and therefore basically their adopted younger sibling) is courting someone? I have a date tomorrow so I keep thinking about how the fellowship would react to seeing the reader smile uncontrollably when they talk about their partner and such. Thanks 🙏

Alrighty alrighty I see you 👀 it’s been a while, so sorry, but I hope the date went well! I can see this reaction going a few different ways depending on who we’re talking about, something akin to:

“Who is this person and how do you know them?”: Aragorn, Frodo

“So you’re getting married? When? When did this all happen?”: Sam, Merry, Pippin

“Tell me everything!”: Legolas, Boromir, Gimli

Where some might take the nature of his questions as suspicion, Aragorn’s words are plain and calm. “I was not aware of your courtship when you were welcomed in.” You assure him that you made your choice and made it well. “I know the feeling of having made a promise. Blessings in the path before you both,” he wishes you with a wise, carefully knowing smile. Frodo seems to have more concerns, worry and doubt swimming in his blue eyes. “So all this time you have been away from your promised one? Do you trust them? What do they know of your errands here?” He relaxes at the way you smile when you speak of the one you’ve found, but still is quite eager to meet them.

“We haven’t got a date for that, Sam,” you giggle, shaking your head, “technically we have yet to be engaged. Marriage, of course, would be nice.” “Wouldn’t it?” Sam sighs, leaning on his walking stick. “So, how’d you ask the lucky one, then?” “No wonder you’re always off smiling about something- you’ve got something to go home for,” Merry teases you. “Haven’t we all?” You shoot back with a cheeky look, arms crossed tight over your chest. “Mine is just a bit different than yours.” Pointing, the hobbit continues his barrage. “Ah, there we have that smile again! You’ll be wed in no time! Oh, I do so love a wedding, eh Pip?” “Oh, yes,” Pippin chimes in, “if we’re invited I’ll certainly be there. All the flowers and smiles and the great big cake! Oh, when are you getting married?” “I-” Head falling into your palm, you just hide your wide smile. “I do not know yet, but if it is in our power you will see it.” “Well, I can tell just by the look on your face how much you look forward to it,” Pippin replies, elbowing his cousin.

“I was unaware of your courtship,” Legolas admits, peering down at you with new eyes, “how long has it been fixed?” A smile creeps onto your lips- the elf’s words are spoken in what an outsider would hear as mild interest, but you know the woodland prince better than that. He is curious, and you are beyond happy to indulge. “I can start by telling you how we met,” you offer, grin widening. “Yes,” Legolas agrees, “I would like that.” “You never cease to surprises me,” Boromir teases, ruffling your hair, “tell me about this mysterious lover!” “Boromir,” you half-whine in response despite your smile, “I have no ‘mysterious lover’, I am being courted, simple as that.” “Well, make this person less mysterious, then,” the warrior of Gondor challenges, “share with me the wonder of their presence.” “You? Since when has this been, ye wee rascal?” Gimli’s eyes are like saucers when he finds out the company’s youngest is spoken for. “Quit your daydreaming and explain yourself!” Harsh as his phrasing is you cannot help laughing, knowing how the dwarf gets in his shock. Soon as you smile, too, a teasing laugh bursts forth, an encouraging heh heh heh that has your dam bursting as you share your story.

Of course he comes by to talk to you about the various books you have. As well as doing a bit of extra flirting just in case you have some books that are definitely not legal in hopes that he could take a look (he's going to at least try, but he won't push or manipulate).

He does hope you don't get too bored with your job, he doesn't understand how anyone can be bored among so many books. But just in case you do, he's here now so you can do something else (excuse the innuendo, he didn't mean it but he's not opposed)!

Gale has come in to browse another book as well as letting his eyes browse your form, but he stops when he sees you helping some kids finding a book. Considering his condition, he never thought he'd live to be able to be a family man, but he can't help as that thought crosses his mind a lot more after seeing how you interact with kids.

Maybe the reader works with Sonia by bringing her sources or something like that, and she introduces Leon or Gordie to the reader and they really hit it off. Bonus points if something cliche happens like the reader has to use a stool to stock books on higher shelves and they end up falling but are caught by one of them. Leon's schedule is flooded with things he has to do, but you still manage to see him at the library at least once a week. He always asks your recommendations for what he should read next, making sure to mention his thoughts on the last couple of novels you convinced him to read. "You could've given me a heads up about that ending, Hop found me crying my eyes out." You felt bad after that one and made sure to recommend a feel good book with a happy ending after that incident.

It feels strange meeting you outside the library, handing a large pile of documents to Sonia, despite it being the way you were both introduced. But she doesn't help, wiggling her eyebrows at Leon when your back is turned after catching him staring at you. "So... have you asked them out yet?" She whispers upon you moving out of earshot to fetch something else for her.

"Not so loud." He murmurs back.

"I'll take that as a 'no'," he scratches the back of his neck, avoiding her inquisitive stare. "Seriously, you've been going out of your way to visit the library for how long now? And you haven't asked them out yet?" Just as she opens her mouth to say something else you appear back from around the corner.

"Hey Sonia where's the stool? I need something from the top shelf." She grins.

"Don't worry Leon can help with that!" She pats him on the back and wiggles her brows at him one last time, mouthing 'you can do this,' as she waits for you both to go and fetch the document. It's a good thing Leon was already planning on asking you out because Sonia would not let him live it down if he didn't.

"You must hate it when people ask for books from the top shelf." Gordie joked after just meeting you, and you at the time had let out a loud huff.

"Don't get me started. It doesn't help that our book ladder at the library is a danger to society." He thought at the time you joking about the book ladder, and laughed. But now that he's at your library watching you make the climb up said ladder, he realises you were in fact, not joking.

"It can't be legal to make you use that." The ladder looks like it's holding on for dear life, wobbling with each step you take upwards. You have to stop less then halfway up, suddenly unnerved by how unstable it seems to be.

"I already told my boss if I fall, I will be suing but she thinks I'm being dramatic." You shoot a grin down at him, a gesture that he returns back to you.

"I can get you in touch with a pretty good lawyer if that happens." You're about to move up the ladder again, and it visibly shakes, making an unsettling groan as it does so. He grimaces. "But he can't help if you die." You laugh.

"I'll be fine." Your fate was sealed the moment the words left you mouth. Because less than thirty seconds later, you were in fact not fine. You'd lost your footing attempting to make the next step upwards. Gordie, who had been lingering around the bottom of the ladder was quick to catch you in his arms.

"See if I hadn't caught you, you'd have been in trouble."

"Or laughing with all my royalties. You never know." He rolls his eyes, placing you back onto the ground. "Thank you for catching me, I owe you one."

"You could come with me for lunch." While your lunch break was coming up, and a coffee shop around the corner, making it a tempting offer. You still look slightly confused.

"Not sure how that helps settle the favour?"

"I'll get some piece of mind knowing you're not attempting to climb up to your doom." You smile at his evident concern, completely won over by his offer.

"Deal."

I'm an autistic girl who also has adhd, asthma and chronic joint pain. I work as a librarian currently and am simultaneously very smart and scholarly and also full of energy. I'm definitely the sunshine person in a group, I love taking care of people and I'm very good at making other people laugh, I have a very dry witty sense of humor. I'm also super short, 4' 10"/147 cm, but I can get kinda insecure about it when dating. I have a very boyish style, long wavy auburn hair that floofs up around my head, glasses and I'm pale and covered in moles and freckles. I also love being out in nature, and if I can't be I bring nature to me, I have tons of houseplants.

With that being said here's how I think things could go with...

I know we talked about how Halsin would appreciate you, but we know who else would love you - Gale!

The lovestory here damn near writes itself, especially given your current occupation. I mean where better for Gale to stumble upon love than a place teeming with potentially valuable and intriguing knowledge? More than likely this is where the two of you first cross paths - perhaps he’s come in looking for information on whatever subjects got his head racing with a thousand and one questions that need answers; or maybe he’s searched high and low for a specific subject material and this is his next stop in the hopes of finding it. Whatever it is, the guy comes for books, and stays for you. Because gods if his first meeting with you doesn’t stop the wizard in his tracks.

Your sharp mind is absolutely the first thing that draws him to you. You match his conversation topics and questions with a certainty and enthusiasm that speaks highly of your quick wit. You’re eager to indulge him as well, a welcoming ear to pass the time as you work,and because you seem to actually enjoy listening to him talk. Perhaps he gets a little carried away talking your ear off, but you don’t mind do you? What really gets him in the end is the smile that you flash at him before he leaves. That smile of yours is blinding, like the sun itself crinkles in the corners of your eyes and the curve of your lips when it's directed at him.

Of course he finds excuses to come around after this, both before and after you’re together. If it’s before then it’s all under one pretense or another.  Oh, he just so happens to be out of interesting reading material! Perhaps you could recommend some to him? Or he needs some help finding a specific tome and the aisle that it’s located in (as though this man doesn’t know any library like the back of his hand by like the third visit - I mean this is Gale we’re talking about.) Even after you pair get together he’ll make a point to come and see you, but he’s far less subtle about wanting to do it just to see you - spending time with you on your breaks and departing with a kiss or two as an incentive to help you get through the rest of the work day. 

Okay this is a personal hc but I’m pretty sure that Gale often deals with joint and back pain himself, so he understands a little of what you’re experiencing. When the chronic pain becomes overwhelming he’ll insist on you resting, attempting to ease the aches in your joints as best as he can with the stuff he keeps on hand at home. Goes overboard with research into spells that could help to offer a modicum of relief for your pain, or find a potionmaker who can give you something to ease the severity of the discomfort that you’re in. Whatever it takes to take some of that pain away from you Gale will do it - he can’t help but worry that whatever he’s doing isn’t enough sometimes but the sheer care this man puts into your wellbeing means a lot.

You say you love making people laugh, but you know what Gale loves more? Hearing you laugh. He’ll always throw in your jokes with a couple of his own; granted most of them are groan-worthy and some downright terrible, but so long as they get a smile out of you he considers it a job well done. Just about melts at the sound of your laughter, as though your laugh alone is enough to make him fall all over again. Gets this love struck puppy look in his eyes drinking in the sight, but he will fluster if you ask him what he’s looking at.

Another guy who understands that while it’s a sweet thing that you enjoy caring for others, sometimes you’ve got to take some time to yourself. If Gale sees that you’re potentially overworking yourself he’ll just straight up guide you away from it, gently assuaging your protests or worries with assurances that whatever you have to finish will always be there once you return. That being said he is a huge hypocrite of losing time in his own work and needs to be reminded sometimes that he needs to take breaks, so hopefully you’ve got that down pat with the tactics you know to lure him away from what he’s doing. Also Gale strikes me as the kind of partner who would come prepared with the little things that come through in a pinch. Considering you wear glasses I just know that he’d carry some cleaning cloths for them around for you. You don’t always need the kinds of things he brings along, but the little proud ‘aha!’ he lets out when you do need them is just too cute. 

Another 👏freckle👏appreciator👏. He’ll try to be smooth, pointing out patterns on your skin that match constellations and patterns in the stars that he recognizes, offering to trace the shape of them along your freckles to show you the similarity. Really it’s an excuse to cuddle up next to you and bask in your warmth as his fingers glide over every freckle and mole that you’ll allow him to touch. Good luck if you’re ticklish; he'll try to feign innocence if you laugh or squirm when his hand slides over any ticklish parts, but there’s no way he can keep a straight face about it, trying to hide his smile in the crook of your shoulder.

Gale is very much a ‘bring the nature to him’ kind of partner, in the sense that he’s far more on board with bringing the aspects that you love from the outside back into a far more familiar environment. And who doesn’t love being able to nurture your love of nature in the comfort of you own home? He’s had one or two plants at his home that are mostly self-sustaining, but as time goes on and you begin to integrate yourself more and more with his life, this number will quickly multiply. Hanging plants become especially prevalent throughout the entirety of his home, both because they don’t run the risk of accidentally being knocked over, and because the life they breathe into the place makes his tower feel a lot homier and cozy. Will tell you now that Gale WILL have plant favorites - he will get invested in its care and will keep that thing on his favorite windowsill with adequate access to necessities. (you may have also caught him using his magic a couple of times to give the lil thing a boost when he thinks you’re not looking - a fitting use for a master of the weave I’m sure.)

Hey, I don't know if this is selfish to ask, but do you have any good hopepunk posts specifically related to disabilities? I'm only 19 years old but I have so so many health problems to deal with; weak bones, poor circulation, head rushes so bad I collapse on the floor, scoliosis, asthma, autism, severely tense and painful muscles, and like a million other things. I honestly don't know how long I'll live - I'm 19 and I already feel like my body's giving up, I have no idea if I can even make it to 30 at this point - but your blog and the hopepunk community make me feel better about that. This world is beautiful and I'm proud to have been a part of it, even for a shorter period of time than I'd like.

But it's still hard. It's hard to accept that I can't do things I used to be able to do. It's scary. And I'm insecure about not being like everyone else and not being able to support myself because of my disabilities. So I hope it's alright to ask if you have any hopeful posts for people like me. Thanks, Merry Christmas. I hope 2023 brings you, me and everyone who reads this post good things 💕

I'm afraid I don't have anything specific. And it's easy for me to say that your worth is inherent and not dependent on your usefulness to others, but I know that's not what most of the world is telling you.

I think it's less about what you offered the world while you were here, and more about the fact that you were here at all. So many small coincidences, stretching back eons, on levels as small as the bases in your DNA and as large as the moon pulling the tides, brought you here. We're all miracles born from luck, you included. I like to think that means something, even if you leave life without a trace. Though very few people manage to do that.

And maybe that's not comforting with the future staring you down. But, at least in my experience, the future is always a little bit kinder than I expected it. And even if it isn't, there's always an unexpected sweetness alongside the bitter. I hope you'll find the same is true for you as the future gradually softens to the present. Maybe you won't be able to do the things you could before, but I believe you'll find new things to embrace.

I'm happy you're proud to be here, and I'm happy that we got to share our short time in this world, even if we never met face to face. Many good things to you, and happy new years.

Hi! Here's my description for the matchup trade, thank you so much again for doing this!

I’m Tori, a 20 year old autistic girl (pronouns she/her) who would prefer a ship with a man. Also, I tend to prefer the humans in middle earth (so like Aragorn, Faramir, Boromir and Eomer) so if you could kindly ship me with one of them specifically I’d be very grateful.

I’m really short, only like 4’ 10” (142 cm) with wild, long and wavy auburn hair and really light blue eyes. I’m slender but very toned, and I also wear glasses. I'm pretty neutral about both my appearance and myself in general and I don't think I genuinely hate anything about myself. I'm generally neutral about most things actually, it takes a lot to make me mad and even then I'm good at controlling my emotions. I have chronic joint pain all over, scoliosis and some other illnesses but I stay very active regardless. I’m really polite and try my hardest to be nice to everyone, but if you cross me or give me a bad vibe I can be a little cold and aloof. I’m a tad awkward, but I’ve been told I can be charming and I’m really good at making others laugh with witty comments. I tell amazing stories because I've had a lot of experience with different things during my life. I’m very generous and don’t mind helping others or doing nice things for them. I’m also extremely energetic and always have to be doing something, to the point where I’m honestly not sure I really know how to rest. My friends say I give really good advice and am very wise, and also that I have warm, inviting energy. I could lowkey befriend anyone if I really tried. Though I'm also very sensitive and don't enjoy being teased too much, so I don't tease others either. I also hate seeing people, or really anything, upset.

Where I really shine is with my large number of hobbies and interests. Because I always like to keep busy, I have a lot of different activities and side gigs to keep me occupied. In Middle Earth, I’d probably be some sort of ranger who picks up a bunch of odd jobs here and there. I currently work as a librarian but my other hobbies include:

🦉 Caring for horses (I've always been a horse girl lol)

🦉 Cheesemaking, Cooking and Baking

🦉 Gardening and Plant Identification

🦉 Writing, Journaling and Drawing

And a couple other things. I’m generally a very skilled, knowledgeable person and I’m very proud of it. I love being outside and can’t stand being cooped up indoors for too long. However, I do enjoy having somewhere nice to return to when I get tired from being outside all day.

If anyone is going to be understanding of a chronically ill S/O, then it is Faramir. He's very patient and overall a wonderful human being. You still trying your hardest to remain as active as possible despite the difficulties makes him appreciate you more since that is certainly not an easy task. He finds your auburn hair very fascinating since it's a rare colour regardless of country and how wild it is. Gondorians are taller than average so he finds your short stature intriguing because the shorter end of their people are most likely taller than you. What he loves about you the most is not your appearance but your gentle heart; he loves how generous you are and that is the trait he values the most. He believes selfishness and lack of patience will not get anyone anywhere and seeing you helping others even if they did not ask for any help is when he discovered your good heart. He is as wise and knowledgable as you are and also gives good advice that it is no surprise to anyone to learn you two tend to go to each other first for counsel instead of anyone else.

He's more reserved than awkward nor does sound to be a very humourous person so your relationship would bring jokes, wit and laughs that Faramir never knew he needed and Boromir makes a comment how his brother is starting to gain a good sense of humour. Your approachability and unwillingness to tease others also puts him at ease as he is the kind to avoid anyone that proves to be completely unapproachable, and has had a lot of experience with others berating him. He asks a lot about your hobbies and skills (especially befriending crows) not because he knows nothing about them but because he wanted to see and hear about it from your perspective. He shares all the hobbies you listed (except for falconry, befriending crows and caring for horses) and he would ask for permission to read your stories and even help you with it. I think he's into poetry and would share his own with you, and maybe some of them are even about you ;) I also can see him helping you with cooking and baking especially for a really big meal, and is genuinely interested in learning about gardening and identifying plants. All in all, he only seeks a simple life away from war and destruction and he believes he can have that with you since what you do reminds him of the good things life has to offer.

Hi sweetie, I know it's been a long time since we've talked but I hope it's okay if I request another comfort imagine. I'm really worried about my dad, he's 62 and has developed a really really terrible cough. Like, you can hear it all the way from upstairs kinda cough. And he's getting weaker and weaker every day, he can't even bring me to most of my appointments and struggles to even do grocery shopping now. My Mom thinks he has long COVID but he won't admit it and refuses to go to the doctor. I'm just super scared about losing him so if you could maybe write some Headcanons or something about Aragorn, Boromir, Faramir and/or Eomer comforting their S/O who has just lost their father I'd appreciate it. First I wanna say i’m sorry it took me so long to anwser and I am so sorry about your father.

Secondly, I know I often do comfort imagines and never really mind but this time I am not quite comfortable writing this for reasons I don’t wanna share. Plus I didn’t really know how to write those headcanons without sounding like a broken record. I just feel like they would all act kind of the same way. But know that Aragorn, Boromir, Faramir and Eomer would all try their best at making sure you take care of yourself despite the grief and sadness you feel, despite how hard it can be and how hard it is. Because they know how it feel. 

I feel like they are all used to grief and death. They have all seen it, they lived it in one way or another. They lost family, friends, people they fought side to side despite not even being related to them. They would be at your side no matter what, even before that, they have been at your side, wanting to be your pillars of strength because you need them in this hard time.

I'd probably prefer a male ship. I'm really short, like 4' 10" and chronically ill with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Autism, Dyspraxia and a bunch of other stuff. I love writing and drawing. I'm a people person but I definitely need my alone time, I can only handle so much social interaction in a day. I love cryptozoology and science too. I really hate possessiveness and I'll need someone who doesn't mind accomodating me. I'm pretty excitable and funny but can have a hard time because of my chronic illnesses. I can infodump about nearly any topic since most of my time is spent researching things that interest me. I get nervous in relationships and am easily flustered too

'First Kiss'

As Legolas spotted you in the distance, a smile spread across his face. His whole journey back, he had been excited to see you. Your relationship had been growing, but before Legolas could truly tell you how he felt, he was sent off by his father.

But now he had returned, and he was more than ready to tell you and show you how he truly felt.

As you sat underneath your favorite tree, reading your favorite book, you heard the sound of soft footsteps approaching.

Looking up, your eyes landed on the smiling face of Legolas. Your heart jolted in your chest as a wide smile appeared on your face.

"Legolas!" You said with excitement as you began to rise.

Quickly approaching you, Legolas did not let you rise entirely before he pulled you into a hug.

You let out a soft laugh as he gripped you in his arms. You hugged him back, excitement filling your body. Pulling away from him a few moments later, you looked up into his eyes.

"I'm so glad you're back"

He smiled adoringly down at you "I'm glad I am returned."

Reaching up, he gently caressed your cheek as he stared at you, you felt your ears burning hot and your heart beating heavier in your chest.

"I cannot tell you how much I've wanted to see your smile since I left. And how much I wish I had not left before I told you truly how I felt."

You were uncertain of what to say. You knew how he felt, as you felt it too. And you wished you had said something yourself before he left, but you were too afriad.

Finally finding your words, you smiled softly. "I know how you feel Legolas."

He smiled as he moved a bit closer to you "Then let me show you."

Slowly leaning down, he cupped your chin in his hand as he pressed a soft and gently kiss to your lips. Your face burned hot, but you felt happiness jolt through you as you returned the kiss.

Mutual affection and love radiated through both of you as you held each other, glad to finally be together again, and fully open to how both of you felt.

I feel you about being scared of surgery, I've had two knee surgeries and am getting Bilateral Jaw Joint Replacement this fall. It's really scary and hard to deal with, but I promise you can get through it. During my recovery from my knee surgeries I didn't have crutches so I had to put my full weight on my banged up knee, which was rough, but I still got through it and I know you can too. You're really brave for going through with this, and I promise that after you've recovered you'll be happy you did it and should feel so proud of yourself!

My best tips for surgery is to make sure you fast beforehand so you don't vomit from the anesthesia, and to be very gentle with yourself for the first week or two. Like the previous ask said, don't starve yourself out of fear, but don't try to push yourself to recover too fast. You'll do great sweetie, I'm sure of it 💕

Thank you so much 🥺🥰🥹 yes definitely they said don’t eat before a certain time the night before and I am SO sticking to that! My friend had that problem and she lost her clots as a result and it burned and just made things so awful :(

That sounds even bigger and more scary what? How does the jaw joint replacement work if I may ask? The same friend who had the tonsillectomy had a major jaw surgery too but hers was something involving breaking and reattaching her upper jaw I believe…what’s with all out crazy oral surgeries here 😫 only kind I’ve had lmaos.

Yeah my parents are encouraging me too saying it will be worth it in the long run and I agree because constant illness, irritation, and pain aren’t good when you have potentially 60-80 more years of life 💀😂 also I remembered the worst thing I’ve had done, a bone spur extraction WHILE I WAS FULLY AWAKE, and hey, that was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life but it was 2-ish years ago and my memory of it is more conceptual now 🤙🏻 I hope your pains have become conceptual too and your knees are doing much better, you are so strong too 💕

You know, it's kinda funny how much of high fantasy centers around kings and nobility and courtly intrigue considering that the archetypal high fantasy, Lord of the Rings, had the rather explicit moral of "saving the world is up to this backwater hick and his gardener because no politician, least of all inherited nobility, would have the ability to see past their own ambition and throw away a weapon". Oh sure, Aragorn is a great king and all, but there's a reason he's over there running a distraction ring while the hobbits do the real work. Sauron loses because he gets distracted by kings and armies and great battles (i.e. typical high fantasy stuff) letting Frodo and Sam sneak through his back door and blow it all to hell.

Just saying, maybe old Jirt knew what he was saying when he said that the small folk doing their best and holding to each other was more powerful than a dozen alliances and superweapons and we should respect him for it.
