I do think it's funny though that writing isn't really thought of as something that has "sketches" or "warmups". You're either writing a completely fleshed out original story or you're failing at being a writer.

#i have so many thoughts about this actually but its 1am and i need to be up at 7 and ive had a few beers and i am not able to adress them #atm #something something the push for fic to be recognized as a legitimate form of the craft #when even at its most in depth and diligent its basically a sketch #and sometimes its just original fiction with a crutch #which is almost worse #tracing and borrowing gesture is how visual artists learn to model the figures they want #copying and living into those same gestures is how writers learn to write #and idk why that isnt acknowledged or respected #visual arts students have for years suffered through being made to copy ~The Canon~#and like...isn't that what fic is? just sub blorbo from my shows for Girl With A Pearl Earring #but also i think looking at fic as anything more than either a copy or a practice is a disservice in both directions:#to the fic and to you as the author #idk...

ao3 commenters PSA: even on older fics with a ton of comments the authors still get the notifs for every single comment

re: the person who just left a multi paragraph comment on one of my older fics talking about how much they disliked the ending and detailing several alternate endings they came up with instead that they thought would be better, and ending the comment with "no one is going to see this but oh well" authors see your comments yes even on old fics and it really doesn't feel good to see a comment like that even years after I finished the fic

Yall need to interact with fanfiction author's more.

So. After the ddos attack on ao3.

I was encouraged to write more comments and make my love known to fanfic writers.

I dont really like commenting. Because im a bit shy and soooo lazy.

Now though. I am writing more comments. And dude. This is so heartwarming. Ya'll need to treat writers better. They are doing the lord's work.

Take for an example, couple of days prior, i was searching for something interesting to read, and found an oneshot quite compelling.

I read it. At the end of it, i was blown away by how good it was. It promised me something and it went beyond my expectations. But then i saw a crime, zero fucking comments!

At that moment, i wasn't feeling up to writing a comment. Because, normally i like to write huge paragraphs. But because im lazy i decided to be brief.

Next day, the author answered that the comment lift their mood for the whole day.

That warmed my heart.

Duuuuuuuude! Write comments! Suport the writers of the fics you like! No need to be something super elaborate. Just give your thoughts. Freak out. Ramble. Ask something. Make theories. Compliment. Make a joke about how you wished to give kudos every chapter but ao3 sucks(not true bby) and won't let you.

Truly. Just. Comment. It can make someone's day. And that is part of the apeal of writing fics. Interacting with people.

Just give love to fanfic writers yall. They deserve this and so much more.

I hope y'all are doing well #ive been reading a lot of fics with these two and i see how the authors have the characters refer to each other in their fics #and that got me wondering how much do they say each other's name in the show and how do they refer to each other #since this is the house video ill put his stats here #s1 was 19 times s2 was 31 s3 was 34 s4 was 30 s5 was 35 s6 was 58 s7 was 25 and s8 was 28 #in total he says his name 260 times. Mostly refers to him just by Wilson #He's only said Wilson's first name 7 times. Once by Jim 3 by Jimmy and 3 by James #He'll use his full name in professional settings or to be sarcastic or to pretend to be him #You know since House is the main character and in every episode of the show i thought he'd say his name more than him #but Wilson beats him by 42 times bc s7 and s8 he doesn't say his name as much. it took Wilson getting cancer for him to say it more #than he was before that point

God, I love it when people who clearly have personal experience or expert knowledge on certain things write obscure AUs that incorporate those things so hyperspecifically that I feel like I'm learning something.

I love nurses who write hospital AUs that have accurate medical knowledge just thrown in there because they went to medical school and when people who clearly had a phase where they obsessed over a certain time period write an AU set in that time period or location it's just so fun.

Tell me about the 1950s Chicago culture and history and how the characters are interracial and how that affects their life, I love when the money is accurately converted and the personal histories of the characters are thoughtfully woven to incorporate the new setting they're put in, I love it when people care so much about making something and use their own expertise to aide them.

#i love it when the authors notes are just a history lesson #or like an index/glossary about the vocab used by the characters #if you think no one would care about your mechanic au where you throw a fictional guy under a car bc that's what you know I care #its so nice when people so clearly care about the world that they're writing in #can you tell i found a new fic today and I'm excited about it #ao3 #fanfic
