After nearly two and a half years of being completely obsessed with Zestiria after I beat it way back in July of 2021 I finally decided to go back and watch the anime, Zestiria the X and, yeah I have some thoughts

I'm gonna start with the good. Definitely the best part was getting to see Rose and Alisha interact with each other, and Dezel and Zavied interact as well, since they were never in the party at the same time in the game. The anime format also did a lot of good for both Alisha and Zavied's characters (I'm so glad Zavied is something besides "the horny guy" now). Really the story works a lot better with the full party of 8 together towards the end.

The anime also gave me the one thing Tales games never give me, which is a full proper ending, and by that I mean showing us exactly what happened to the world after the final battle was won. I've never been very good at using my imagination when it comes to a peaceful and normal world so it was nice to see that fleshed out. While unrealistic I am also glad Sorey came back within Rose and Alisha's lifetimes because that always kinda bugged me in the game

Using Berseria as a legend in Zestiria was pretty cool considering they didn't get to do that in the game since it came out first. I thought it worked really well. However I am very confused on why they decided to animate the first three hours of post-prologue Berseria smack dab in the middle of the Zestiria plotline and just...never return to it. I don't know why they decided to do that, it didn't fit at all and the whole time I was just wondering if or when they were ever gonna come back to it. And if they were gonna do it for context's sake shouldn't they have, I don't know, jumped ahead to some part where Velvet actually fights Artorius?? It just felt so strange to me.

Onto some more bad: Why the hell did they make Maltran a good guy. She worked just fine as a twist villain. They just cut that entirely for no reason??

And there's one particular huge thing that they just completely changed. One of the most interesting things to me about Zestiria's narrative was the underlying theme that "you can't save everyone." From "everyone knows you can't purify a dragon" to that first moment in Pendrago when they encounter a hellion so strong that the only way to quell its malevolence is to outright kill it, leading all the way up to the finale of the game where Sorey has to kill Heldalf because he can't be purified. They learn over and over again that malevolence has consequences, and that the Shepherd's journey isn't without sacrifice, and that sometimes taking a life is the only way to save that many more.

And Zestiria the X just throws that whole concept out the window?????

First they straight up replaced the corrupted church lady in Pendrago with something totally different and far less impactful, just a corpse that can be purified. And then they go and purify a real dragon??? You can't just do that????? And of course that means they won't kill Heldalf either. He ends up unrealistically purified as well. It just bugs me so much. It goes against everything the original game wanted to set up. Sure it gave us a happier ending but we don't always need a perfectly happy ending! Life is full of heartache and tragedy and sacrifices, and the original Zestiria showed that in a really neat way. And the anime just goes and tosses all of it out the window. It just...it makes me really upset. Tbh the Pendrago sequence is one of my favorite moments in the game, and the dramatic sequence where you kill Heldalf is another favorite, and I was really excited to see those in anime form. And instead they just got binned entirely. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined :(

And for that matter they also kind of completely got rid of Sorey's character arc, as meager as it may have been. One of my biggest gripes with Zestiria the game is that Sorey is just too perfect a guy, he's too pure and innocent and never really makes mistakes and the game had opportunities to allow him to do that but were too scared to actually commit to it. But despite that, Sorey still has a character arc of some sort, mainly in what I mentioned above where he has to accept that sacrifices are inevitable but in some other ways too. Meanwhile the anime just removes all of that. Sorey pretty much never struggles, except maybe in matters of strength in the beginning you know, and he always gets his way--he never has to make a sacrifice and always saves everyone. All this culminating in The X Sorey being somehow even more flawless and perfect and static than game Sorey. And it's really disappointing to see because I was really hoping to get a more fleshed out Sorey as a result of the anime format.

Something pretty insignificant that bugged me was the fact that they pretty much never got to explore ruins or old temples or whatever else. The game's gameplay loop was pretty much go to a town, deal with some political stuff/watch some cutscenes, go to a ruin or temple and fight a boss, back to the town. Which worked really well for a game setting, but I recognize doesn't work as well in an anime. However, what the anime decided to do was completely cut out any ruins exploration and focus exclusively on the political conflict in the towns. I see why they did this, don't get me wrong, but I just can't help that it doesn't really feel like Zestiria when Sorey and Mikleo aren't nerding out over random stuff in ruins, you know? All that political stuff started to get really boring after a bit. And like so much of the game's story and lore takes place in those dungeons, so it just feels so odd to have them completely removed.

Pretty minor thing but I felt like they kind of messed up Lailah's character. Her whole thing in the game is that she knows everything about the Shepherd's journey but she's not allowed to talk about it because of her oath, so she does the whole inconspicuous whistling and deflecting to other topics the whole time. And I kind of liked it because she looks totally airheaded but it isn't true, she knows a lot she just can't tell us. But in the anime it felt like Lailah didn't know all that much about the whole situation, like she seemed just as surprised as the rest of the party in a lot of scenes. And I feel like that just kind of took all the life out of her character. She was already kind of generic in the game and taking away the one thing that made her interesting just made her even worse.

Okay I'm starting to make it sound like I hate Zestiria the X, I don't. I think I am just a huge purist when it comes to the original game and the anime did a lot of things contradictory to the game that I didn't like very much. But it's okay it was still a good anime and worth watching

It didn't really help me like my favorite characters (Sorey, Mikleo, and Edna) even more, but it did help bring the characters I was lukewarm about (Alisha, Rose, Zavied) about up to par with the original three in terms of how much I liked them, so that's nice. (Lailah and Dezel were more interesting in the game anyway.) I think if you took The X Alisha, Rose, and Zavied, and put them into the game's narrative, you'd have a pretty solid experience in total.

The first time you both met was definitely awkward (for you at least.) Kind of an awkward silence but he decides to speak up, lessening the tension of the situation. He'd try getting you to open up a little more, though at your preferred pace.

He contrasts your personality, he always tries to help you with social situations if you seem like you need help. Since you're more awkward- he tries to help!

He'd also calm you down whenever you over think, reassures you that whatever you're over thinking about won't happen, technically just comfort you! And it's the same thing when you get insecure, he'd always reassure you that you're already perfect, and that he'll love you forever.. That stuff.. Cliche romantic stuff... (That I want)

Would be so against you hiding your feelings, and shoving them deep down.. He doesn't judge you for it, though he is really worried about you.. You could always talk to him about it, you know! You're not a burden🤍🤍

he matches your aesthetic! You guys are pretty much the dark academia couple. He'd always indulge in your interests,, oh? You wanna go to this old, run down, haunted house? Let him go with you! You wanna stare at the ocean? Ooo.. That's fun! He'll join in too! And he would honestly watch horror videos on yt with you at 3 am😭😭 he seems like the type tbh-

Would definitely stargaze with you if you're up to it! He'd point out random stars he knows the name of.. Whatever to make him look cool and hip!

Would give you more ideas for different stories. He'd love to read your stories and give more advice on how to make it better, or whatever- he's probably an expert at everything because of his ancient age 😓

Would probably eat the vegetables you dont wanna eat(?) Idk but if you offer to give him some since you don't want it, I guess he'll eat it-

Would also get you to a more quiet, secluded area whenever it gets too loud! He's so nice isn't he? 😍😍😘😘🥰🥰

but your first interaction would be REALLY awkward with you both- I don't even have an idea for what would happen then😭😭 but he'd (maybe) speak up first? You guys would sound forced, but eventually get more comfortable in each other's presence.

He'd mostly listen to you talk so- would probably just throw in some sentences here and there.

He'd be interested in your hobbies! He'd want to read some of your work, and he'd also ask you more about it and stuff!

Would genuinely want to know more, even if he doesn't know all that much about your hobbies. If you ever explore some creepy, old, maybe haunted house with him, he'd definitely wanna protect you! He's physically strong so-

He probably sleeps early so he won't be able to pitch in any ideas for when you're planning about stuff to write😢

He's also the type of guy to help you whenever you over think, maybe panic internally a little, but tries to help! He'd reassure you about whatever, and try comforting you! Pretty much the same thing whenever you get insecure.

Like Lilia, he worries whenever you shove your feelings down your throat. He'll ask you if you ever need to vent, or if you want anything!

Would also try to get you to a more quiet area whenever it gets too loud.

Pretty much best bf ever

okay so just finished the zestiria anime after i finished the game a few weeks ago, and i wanna compare the stories (i also saw the anime like 5 years ago but i barely remembered it so whatever)

Things i think the anime story did better:

- alisha has screentime!! (and generally feels like she has any amount of agency) - relatedly alisha and rose work so well together (i remember why they get shipped now lol) - alisha gets to armatize!! good for her - the confrontation with konan is a much better place for sorey to find out rose is an assassin than having the failed engagement be a backstory detail (tbh i dont actually remember how we find out she's an assassin in the game) - rose also like. has to reckon with the morality of killing - ian and sirel are great lesbians and i love them - using mt kilaraus and the surrounding snowfield, it's so much better than zaphgott moor* - the connections to berseria* - phi gets to talk! love him* (the * indicates that i get they couldn't put it in the game bc of the release order and probably embargoes with berseria, but still.)

Things i think the game story did better:

- the focus on burnout and the need for sorey to measure himself and make compromises (this was my favorite part of the story) - i love him but. you have to kill eizen. sorey's inability to maintain that promise the way he wanted is so important - heldalf armatizing with maotelus - more time to breathe and explore the world, especially for our ruin maniac boys - dezel's death felt a lot more desperate and earned - the mental image i have of symonne crying that she didn't get to die in service to heldalf is so powerful. like one of the most important parts of the story - mayvin felt like more of a character - more skits! need more skits!! - maltran's betrayal, alisha's recovery from that, and the main party's remorse at keeping the secret from her

basically if you take all of the parts about rose and alisha from the anime, and all the parts about sorey and the seraphim from the game, that would be an ideal story imo

ofc i still love both, and i had a ton of fun playing the game! (all of my complaining about not having a hoverboard notwithstanding)

I try to use my blog name as a tag and "my writing" for sorting purposes, but with the tumblr search being the way it is it doesn't help all that much😂😅

Other than that I don't have any special or fun tags when posting tbh

On ao3 though I do have some funny tags. I think my favorites I've used more than once are "Happy April fool's day and a new year's crackship", and variations of "It'll look like smut but it's just kissing guys I promise"😂😂

🎃 Do you write fics for certain holidays? Which is your favorite holiday inspired fic?

Okay, so picture me, reading this, running thoughts in my head like "Have I ever written a Christmas fic or Halloween fic" or "Have I ever written a fic for Valentine's day?"

And then it hits me

So to answer your question (which I know you put this emoji for the purpose of this most likely 😂) yes. Yes I do write fic for holidays, but for one holiday in particular

For those of you who aren't aware, every year, Xion and I choose a "crackship". Crackship (affectionate), mind you. We think up a pairing, often including characters from different (or wildly different) properties (and sometimes from the same property), that most people wouldn't just consider, and for a whole day we pretend to be number one stans of it (making memes, brainrot posting, posting fic and fanart, the like)

Of course, I don't think I have to say that it backfires each and every time, and that by this point we're well aware that making content is a pipeline to liking the thing, but the point is that every year I write up a fic for a "crackship" I've never or rarely heard about

As for my favorite, I don't think anything can beat the lusid fic for me. 2021, the year of Luxu x Yen Sid was the very first time we tried this, and I don't think I've ever written kissing the same after that (and it was probably the best job I did at this annual game of ours, being that I posted a lot and did it for tumblr and twitter). I think, as funny as the concept of that fic is, it's more dear to me than you'd expect😂

🍦 What's the sweetest fic you've created so far?

Ah that's...really hard

I don't write a lot of fluff, but I wrote a surprising amount of fics with that tag last year.

My initial thought was "A Free Day", the last soriku fic I wrote, but when I think of Soriku I think of how intimately sweet "Alone Time" was despite it being smut first and foremost, and from there I think about "Yozora's Birthday", which has so much sweetness in it. Of course from there I cross the title thread with the opening scenes of "A Free Day" and I think about "Mikleo's Birthday", which (despite being an angst with a happy ending type fic) had such a sweetly domestic opening scene, with Mikleo waking up in bed and Sorey making him french toast

Idk, if I had to designate it by pure fluff factor, "A Free Day" would win, simply because it's one of the few I wrote to be purely fluffy, and the best written of those few. But without that factor I don't think I could choose, because there are so many fic scenes I have (posted and unposted) that tug at my heartstrings to this day

Expect to be teased both during and after

Despite it seeming like he doesn't take it seriously, he takes good care of you

As he helps you to bed and you push him away he chuckles and makes a flirty remark

He listens intently, thoroughly amused

Knows that it's just your medication

But he can't help but worry

After all you're so out of it, you don't recognize him

Stays with you at all times to monitor you in case something happens

Sticks to your side like glue and makes sure nothing bad happens

When he helps you to bed, and you tell him that he reminds you of your boyfriend

He smiles at that

When you begin to talk about how your perceive him it makes him happy

Though he doesn't go along with it like some of the others

"Now, now dearest. It would be best if you lied down."

Happy 36th Birthday, Kimura Ryohei-san!! | 30.07.20

As per my seiyuu birthday commemoration, let’s talk about some of my memorable Kimuryo roles :D

#1: Nishimi Kaoru - Sakamichi no Apollon

Aaaa Kaoruuuu! Yes, the guy who plays the piano in Kids on the Slope. I loved the anime. I loved Kaoru. I think he was the first Ryohei role I encountered (on one of the first anime I watched too). I wasn’t too familiar with his name back then, but I immediately fell in love with his performance. His name was immediately on my radar - though, I learned later that this sort of serious character isn’t one that he usually does. Sad.

#2: Asaba Yuuki - Kimi to Boku

Yuukiiii!!! Kimi to Boku was such a wholesome anime! It’s cute, it’s funny, and it’s heartfelt. Very warm and soft about the life of these five friends. I think Yuuki is my favorite among the bunch. A lazy bum who’d rather read manga, watch anime, and sleep all day long. He is allergic to effort, but he actually can achieve something if he puts his mind into it. Him and his twin brother, Yuuta (who is voice by Ucchi aaaa), enjoy teasing the heck out of Kaname and are the protector of Shun’s innocence. LOVE HIM! (Why aren’t they making more anime T-T)

#3: Nishimura Satoru - Natsume Yuujinchou

Of course I have to mention Natsume Yuujinchou. I mean, my #1 anime of all time? And Nishimura and Kitamoto are just the best friends Natsume needed! (awww) While not necessarily a memorable role, as Satoru is a really minor character, it did come as a surprise when I learned Ryohei was Satoru’s voice. Though when I listened to him again, yeah that’s Ryohei’s voice lol.

#4: Bokuto Koutarou - Haikyuu!!

Yeah, who doesn’t know about the famous Hey, Hey, Hey line from this infamous dork xD I’m new to Haikyuu but Bokuto easily became one of the most memorable characters in the series. That high positive energy he exudes everywhere he goes. And then suddenly, the tiniest triggers would make him lose motivation in the middle of a game lol. Loud and obnoxious, but lovable to a degree.

#5: Wakamatsu Hirotaka - Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun

Almost forgot about him xD I also didn’t realize this was Ryohei for a long time. But well the entire GSNK cast are lovable dorks, including him. Don’t you just love seeing his interactions with Seo lmao (they need to bring back the anime ;-;)

One of Ryohei’s iconic voices, imo. Once you’ve heard the guy enough, it’s not hard to recognize who voices Sorey. He’s not exactly a favorite character - too shounen for my taste, with his boundless positive energy and enthusiasm - but still, the main character of a Tales of game I quite enjoyed (though never got around to finish haha)

Hachiken Yuugo - Gin no Saji

Another dork that I grew to love as I watched the two-season coming-of-age series of kids in an agricultural high school. This series was wholesome! I loved it! And of course the manga was done by Hiromu Arakawa. It took a while to really get into the show, but once you do, it’s easy to love every bit of it. (Where’s season 3 T-T?!?!?! Been meaning to read the manga but never did ^^;)

Takizawa Akira - Higashi no Eden

I only watched this anime recently (a couple years ago I think?). I don’t remember much tbh, but I remember liking it in all its weirdness. Haven’t watched the movies yet though...

QUESTION FOR EVERYONE!!!

Who is your favorite Tales of Spell Caster!?

This means any character classified as a spell caster, good or evil. Maybe even neutral. Cheria, any Seraph would be considered one since they are basically magic. Arche, Elize, Milla, Rowen, Tear, Judithe, and anyone else along those lines. I'll also allow Summoners like Arche and Sheena to this mix. Let's include Sorey since ge technically uses Seraphim as if they are Summons.

Swordians technically turns everyone into spellcasters that can use them. So they are included, too. Especially since they give healing spells and spells that deal a high amount of damage.

I'm just now realizing there are a bunch of spell casters in the Tales of Series now but I still want to know your favorite!!! If you can divide it up into traditional spellcaster (Cheria) and spell casters that get their abilities and spells from items (Stahn and basically everyone in Destiny) then that would be awesome. Really any apellcaster works, though. From Xillia, let's not include everyone with a mana lobe, though I know I basically said they should count but some of them use it for almost strictly weapon attack artes so let's try and leave out those that use almost strictly attack artes. I think Leia can pass because of her healing artes along with some others but she is on the line. Rowen counts of course. But Jude doesn't make the cut because he is almost all weapon attack artes except his one healing spell. So Jude doesn't count, Alvin doesn't count, and Gaius doesn't count. Tbh idk if he should or shouldn't but Ludger does count.

i got back into zestiria lately and like... i dig the characters and i think the setting has a lot of potential, but good god the plot is a railroad-y mess

SPOILERS

tbh the treatment of Cardinal Forton really bothers me. the whole point of her was that there are people in the world who are so set in their harmful ways that you can’t change them—the only way to stop them from preying on or harming other people is to kill them. personally i don’t agree with this type of rhetoric, but it could potentially lead to interesting character development. BUT

the reason why you can’t purify her hellion form and Sorey “has to” kill her is the most half-hearted hand-wavey bullshit, especially since later on you have a priest dude who buys into his own bullshit (with help from the bad guys) so much so that he commits mass murder of the poor and thinks it’s justice—and he isn’t a hellion because he’s so deluded that he doesn’t recognize his actions as evil at all. on the other hand, the cardinal being a hellion implies that she does realize her actions are harmful, but clings to her ways because she cannot see another way out for Rolance in her despair/desperation (”the people must be united”). imo theoretically she could be redeemed, but the game just tells you have to kill her because “she’s too into her own BS and can’t be changed.” if they wanted an arc like that, it’d make more sense for the two character’s position to be switched—the big bad who you HAVE TO kill ~because the game tells you to~ as someone who refuses to acknowledge the harm they do to innocent people and will continue harming people if left unchecked, and the one who gets to live (but is arrested) as someone who acknowledges their wrongdoing deep down but commits harm in desperation

honestly... i kinda think they just wanted a snake titty monster boss fight lol (it’s interesting, to me, that the female villain Must Be Killed but the serial killer priest dude is just arrested)

i love how Sorey and Mikleo geek out over history and ruins, but because they mostly only reference ancient history that the players have no context for—and it’s mostly in skits/optional dialogue where it comes up—it isn’t integrated as smoothly into the plot as it could be. the reveal that there was a previous shepherd ~20-30 years ago and the age of chaos only started in earnest a couple of decades ago could’ve been better foreshadowed if the boys actively make wild theories about these topics, which they then confirm/revise according to the earthen historia. i do appreciate the ancient history stuff a lot, but i wish there was a balance of recent and ancient history discussion

I gotta say i’m still? trying to reconcile the timeline??? Heldalf became Lord of Calamity after Michael cursed him, that that stuff happened when Sorey was a baby because Muse met Zenrus who was holding baby!Sorey (so 17-18 years ago)? but also people act like the age of chaos had been going on for generations...? and people talk about the Celestial Record like it’s been around for ages...? i buy that Michael omitted the fact he’s a shepherd which is why “the last shepherd existed 200 years ago”, but i’m having a hard time with the rest of it

also this is a pet peeve but because lailah has her oath she has to act silly and divert attention for most of the game, which unfortunately led to her not getting as much character development imo. it’s also kind of a shame they didn’t do more with the tension that inherently comes with obviously hiding important secrets from everyone else. she just looks kinda sad sometimes and that’s it?

i... i honestly don’t get Dezel’s back story. the implication is that Dezel cursed the prince into becoming a hellion(?) but i don’t really understand the mechanics behind it. in fact the first time i thought the issue was that because he blessed the Windriders, they stood out too much and caught the attention of a high ranking hellion, and his guilt comes from ‘making them a target’ or whatever (also they uh kinda just ignored the part where he regularly hijacked Rose’s body without her knowledge or consent huh. what’s up with that)

i’m not rly bothered that Rose doesn’t mind, but the fact that the game makes it sound like getting possessed w/o your knowledge to pull off badass stunts is a Good Thing Actually sure was a perspective

What do you mean “check out tales of zestiria”?! You think I haven’t watched any gay canon or gay baited anime that exists? xD (Lol sorry). Sormik are my babies, I love them to death.

Tbh when I started watching I was thinking it’s gonna be just strong bromance because that’s what I heard and I was like “oh no so this chick princess is probably his canon love interest and as usual I guess I’m gonna pretend I don’t see it”. But then they went from not very bromancy touching to “you feel perfect inside of me” and “please feed me with your spoon” and “hey I don’t know how to use my power, but somehow I feel and hear you from miles away” so I decided to check what’s going on and found out that they’re canon in the game. That was a fucking rare amazing surprise.

And then it all ended with them staying together and I was right about princess and rose being lesbians for each other? To say I was shocked is to say nothing. And I know that there’s no kissing or anything, but honestly sormik relationships are so great, it warmed my heart. It’s rare to find characters who are not in denial and aren’t pretending that they don’t love each other. They just admit to themselves and everyone that they can’t be without each other and will do anything for each other. They kinda remind me mikayuu with the fact that they don’t give a fuck lol

And god, they’re so freaking cute, especially the way Sorey thinks that Mikleo fits him perfectly, fits inside of him perfectly and fits in his arms perfectly and he’s not even subtle about it.

So yeah, I absolutely agree, they’re are incredible and they warm my heart in times when I think how some of my otps are never gonna be canon xD I definitely need to post about these two, you may not know if I ship something, because I have so many, but post about like mostly 3 lol, but you can always knock and say “hey post about that”, I’d be happy to, if it’s my otp, because I tend to forget some precious ones.

Just finished watching a walkthrough of Tales of Zestiria, and I must say it is as HYPE as its opening.

My favourite parts:

Sorey and Mikleo bickering — actually, every sormik scene

I swear 99.9% of Mikleo revolves around Sorey, the other 0.1% is him getting teased by everyone (this could be his biggest writing strength and flaw depending on who you ask)

The opening song. A BANGERRRRRR

The different branching routes you can take in Ladylake. Sell the knife? The pipe? Don’t sell both? Sell the pipe later on to get a cool hat as well? How do you enter the Sacred Blade ceremony? YOU CAN CHOOSE

Mikleo leaving Sorey, in the game: Oh don’t worry, Mikleo will be fine, I trust Mikleo to take care of himself :) :)

In the anime: dkjasfnlD MIKLEO DID WHAT??! LAILAH WE MUST GO AFTER MIKLEO RIGHT AWAY

Tbh the argument ‘arc’ he has with Sorey? One of the best parts of the game.

'Does a frog think of getting rid of snakes?’ ‘OH SO AM I A FROG NOW?’ ‘Your LIABILITY will be waiting in the inn’

When in the manga this slow burn (JUST GET CONTRACTED WITH MIKLEO ALREADY) gets extended to after Sorey contracts with Edna

When Mikleo calls Sorey out on his blindness in a skit THEY NOTICE EVERYTHING ABOUT EACH OTHER OKAY

Yeah also, just thinking about how Sorey’s known Mikleo’s true name for a long time now HNNNRNNHSDGGGGGHHHH

Mikleo using his rod not as a conduit for magic but as a whacking tool. He has a mystic arte Crystal Rod where he throws his rod at the enemy saying NOPE (best...) and a mystic arte Final Player where he uses it like a hammer saying “I’ll crush you! Again! Again and again!!” smacking the enemy into the ground LOLLLL

That One Mystic Arte where Edna rides on her umbrella like it’s a flying broomstick and shoots out earth rocks with a finger gun

Zaveid coming out of nowhere at random times, busting out his persona shooting himself in the head and demanding that they fight him

Rose shaking her hands with Sorey at supersonic speed when Sorey gets her to hear the seraphim and she thinks she’s hearing ghosts

The whole ‘we’re married’ scene when they get to Rolance, and the whole joke of Sergei continuing to think Rose and Sorey are married

Dezel laughing at Lailah’s lame animal jokes in the background

Dezel not being able to see, but that’s okay… because he can read the wind!

Dezel being the walking encyclopaedia for all animals and plants bc he’s been everywhere

Rose wants to catch a butterfly and sell it for money, but Dezel interjects and tells her it’s a ‘shae monyurose’ moth, so Rose gives up on catching it, saying people don’t pay a lot for moths

Another skit where Sorey and Rose want to catch these rabbits to eat, (they’re cute... AND delicious.) Dezel is horrified and chases them away by shouting really loudly (HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT??!!)

Everyone who plays Zestiria complaining about how Alisha isn’t a permanent team member, then having mixed debates about whether the anime saved or broke the story with Alisha-Armatization

ZAVEID RUNNING DOWN A WALL

“My way is to put the hellions back in hell” Zaveid says while doing the Dio pose

WRYYYYYYY

I love how he just appears out of nowhere and gets him to fight you, multiple times, in both Zestiria AND Berseria

Dezel suggesting they could just fly all the way to the top but Sorey and Mikleo go “But we WANT to see the ruins...!”

In the bad ending Heldalf is just like ‘nothin doing… just standing here…’ when the team goes in and slays him

Heldalf: You want to defeat me, right? But if you do, you can’t get the TRUE ending… bitch

Sorey:

I love how Rose and Alisha are uncommon heroines, using lances and twin blades instead of magic (Mikleo takes that one, hah).

It’s like the writers of Zestiria were like Hmm. How do we explore the dark elements in this game by showing how people in Age of Chaos possess immense malevolence in their hearts and align it to the main story, and then went, Got it. Assassins. (Story of how Shepherd Sorey went gallivanting around with a princess *cough cough redactedbecauseshedoesn’texistinthegame* and an assassin~~)

Mikleo: Zaveid, there is literally NO REASON for us to fight. At all.

Zaveid: You gotta beat this ass first

And I think that is very sexy of him

Apparently if you take Dezel out of your team during the third fight with Zaveid, he will yell at you

When the plot says Sorey and Mikleo were destined to be the Shepherd and Sub Lord all along :o :v :O

Compared to the start when Sorey was full-out 'don’t kill hellions Zaveid how could you!!!!’, you can see how the darker themes shine here

What I wouldn’t give for a corrupted!Sorey though, I was expecting it bc of clips I saw on Youtube BUT IT NEVER HAPPENED!!! Lowkey sad tho. Would love an arc where Sorey gets overcome by malevolence and becomes, like a jerk, but as like a morally grey character not fully blown evil (like Jerk Rose ig)

The epilogue with everyone!!! The Lord of the Lands (yeah Uno is very pretty)!!! Lucas!!!! Sergei and Alisha!!! The little drawings in the credits detailing Sorey’s journey!!!! Awwww

Overall a happy ending for Sorey and friends which is GREAT

Overall I must say the Zestiria cast is awesome, I really like all the characters and how they are fleshed out very neatly with their own quirks and goals. Edna being god tier with her monotone sarcasm (she is QUEEN....), Zaveid being that dumbass that looks like a stripper (HIM.... baby...), Mikleo being ultimate waifu and how his comedic moments shine with Edna and everyone else when he’s being teased, Sorey being so pure and cute when he geeks out with Mikleo and how his character arc is just such a refreshing take on the hero archetype, Dezel with his stoicness Imma Get Revenge but also his cast knowledge and love for animals, Rose for exploring the side of reality in the malevolence in people’s hearts and her :3 smile and her determination to get things done and how she’s so different from Sorey which only brings out her charm, Lailah with her awful puns and eccentricity and quiet compassion. And uh, Alisha for being the bait-and-switch heroine but a decent character with her own personal goals that are separate from the main character. Sergei and Lucas are also very lovable.

As for the setting, Rolance and Hyland as two kingdoms seem a little small scale compared to lets say if they added one more kingdom, but seeing as this is a 2015 game I think the exploration map is pretty good (then I compare to Xenoblade Chronicles which came out in 2010 and just change the subject). Love the outside game mechanics Giant’s Fist, Wind Stepping and Water Shield (when Mikleo protects Sorey with that!!! And Sorey calls him out by saying he’s been practicing it for a long time... And you recall every time Mikleo asks Dezel and the other older seraphim to teach him stuff so he can get stronger to help Sorey and how 99.9% of his character revolves around Sorey). ‘That spinny mist thing sure gets the job done’ haha.

Anyway, great game and plot, please go check out if you have time, esp rn since animes and other games coming out will be stalled it is a great time to check out older games aaaaaaa

Hmmmmm I mean yes but it depends if you mean official canon explicit gay, or like lowkey creator confirmed gay but they can’t be explicit because of censorship laws gay, also if you mean gay men specifically or other kinds of queer people

I’m going to give you some and assume you mean gay men but if you want more other stuff send me another message

Cardcaptor Sakura - Sakura’s older brother is bi and his endgame relationship is with a boy named Yukito, Sakura’s eventual boyfriend also starts with a very explicit crush on Yukito

by extention - Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle - kind of an au of cardcaptor sakura that have those characters in it, but also feature two other men in an explicit relationship

Doukyuusei - movie about a highschool boy finding out his classmate is gay and developing feelings for him. they kiss explicitly so this is probably the firmest one on my list in terms of anime

Mo Dao Zu Shi - I only watched the anime which is unfinished and they haven’t gotten together yet but it’s based on a manhwa/webcomic where they full on get married at the end so have at it

Yuri on Ice - I’m sure you already know about this but if u don’t... there it is. basically a gay romcom about skating. they kiss but in a lowkey plausibly deniable way.

No.6 - the two main character’s relationship is kind of left ‘up to interpretation’ but they also do explicitly kiss so

Evangelion - main guy has a lot of female love interests but his only real relationship with any depth to it is with a boy and they do kiss in the manga... I forget whether they do or not in the anime

Tales of Zestiria - a video game but also they made an anime adaptation. Not explicit but the main characters Sorey and Mikleo are childhood friends and obviously in love, the creators have said that Sorey is Mikleo’s “one and only” and that “a female romance wouldn’t work for Sorey” so

Free! (the swimming anime) - ok I know but track with me... this particular studio is the best I’ve ever seen tbh at making romances (either m/m, f/f, or m/f) where they never really actually kiss or say that they’re together explicitly but the emotional depth that they all have is so much more developed than so many relationships I see where they do actually kiss, and like as someone who’s demiromantic these relationships mean a lot to me. of my favourite pairing, one of the writers said that he “couldn’t write just the two of them together alone for too long, or something would happen” so

Banana Fish - disclaimer I have not watched this one because it does not end well for them and i’m not about that, but the two main guys get into a relationship so it’s up to you if you want to get into that

Rose of Versailles - this is gay if you read the main character as a trans man which I do and I’m right and everyone else is wrong

Star Driver - this anime sets up a love triangle between two boys and a girl but then at the end they all actually end up in a three-way canon poly relationship and the two boys love eachother as much as they love the girl so yeah

bonus: Magical Girl Ore - so...... this is about magical girls that turn into super buff men when they do their magical girl transformations and it’s ridiculous and so technically it’s a girl in love with another girl but they are both in the bodies of men so there u go

Those are the confirmed gay ones that I know of excluding basically all of the yaoi and shonen-ai genre, which even though they might be more explicitly gay they’re so chock full of unheathly and abusive relationships and also written for the specific enjoyment of straight women that I can’t stand them so.... yeah.
