Something I only just noticed in Narnia TLWW was the symbols on the backs of each Pevensie’s throne, and how each throne has the gift they were given by Father Christmas on their journey to defeat the witch, carved into its back. 

Except, of course, Edmund’s. Because he wasn’t there.

So what did they choose for Edmund’s symbol? At first I couldn’t make out much beyond a vaguely similar sword to the one Peter’s throne has on it’s back, but when I looked closer it got far more interesting.

At first I thought ‘why is Edmund’s symbol a sword breaking a stick? that’s so weird’ 😂 but after a bit of digging on the narnia wiki I found out it’s way cooler than that.

Like??? That is so awesome??? His gift isn’t an object, it’s an action. 

The sword itself isn’t even significant in the way Peter’s is, it’s the act of turning against Jadis, of breaking her wand, her power, that is Edmund’s defining symbol.

But wait, it gets better.

These absolute geniuses also designed Edmund’s symbol to look like a set of scales??? Are you kidding me??? And they totally succeeded as well because just looking at the deliberate shape of the broken staff with the sword running through the middle it lines up so beautifully.

Anyway, all this to say I fricking love this series so, so much, the production design is 😍😍😍 and Edmund’s arc is so perfectly carried through all the films I would quite literally die for him.

I am currently reading the narnia series in its entirety for the first time. And um.

I read The Last Battle in the third grade with a friend and honestly don't know if I can handle it now that I'm older. Every time I think of Susan and her siblings I almost cry because I know what's coming for them. I genuinely mourn their lives like they're my family and it hurts reading tlww because I know. I know about the train. And about the friends. I read the magicians nephew all the way through and I know. Polly, diggory, Lucy, Edmund, Peter. I mourn them as well as the rest of them because I know them. The first movie came out the year I was born. My grandpa read me the first 3 books when I was 4-6. I grew up with them.

And then I lost them. I stopped reading them, I stopped going to church, I was susan.

And now I'm finding them again. I'm not going back to church, but I'm learning his name here. And I'm remembering the joy and the whimsy I had back when I was a child. And I miss it.

I just wanna say that the CGI for TLWW is great

The battle scene is SO FUCKING GOOD. The big cats look pretty real imo

They did so many things right in that film that films have lost today 😭

The stage effects for the narnia performances look amazing though to be honest, I've never watched the films (they just kinda never clicked with me) but I definitely miss the detail and thought that goes into a well imagined fantasy setting. Like its not even a question of CGI vs practical effects, not all CGI is terrible even if practical effects tend to age much nicer. Love to see really well designed animation and effects, i totally feel you!

Okay so like I just re-watched The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe AND LIKE.

I Completely forgot that all the kids lived for YEARS in Narnia, literally grew up there. And then one day they just end up in the real world and they’re kids again! Do you know messed up that is??? like??? Did Peter’s brain stay the same as a grown mans??? Did Lucy’s? Did Susan’s or Edmunds? Did they adapt back to the real world or was it hard? did they continue thinking like a adults?? Like Kings And Queens? Did they find joy in childish things like playing with dolls or sports anymore? Did they think it was all some long, weird dream??? I have so many questions.

For my boss’ kids’ birthdays, I generally get them a picture book, because this satisfies my desire to purchase super cute kid books even though I don’t have kids.

Me:  I can’t wait till the oldest starts reading chapter books!  Then I can get them my very favorite children’s book--The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe!

Also Me:  Wait--wait--my boss’ family is Jewish.  TLWW is a Christian allegory (C.S. Lewis screams “A SUPPOSAL, NOT AN ALLEGORY!” somewhere in his grave.) book.  Is it shitty to give them that book?

Me:  Then again, my boss married a Catholic woman (who converted to Judaism) and they celebrate Christmas with her family.  He whistles Christmas carols every December.  Maybe it wouldn’t be such a big deal.

Also me:  But she CONVERTED to Judaism.  That’s a serious commitment.  He jokes that she’s now more Jewish than he is.  How shitty is it if I give their kids a book with blatantly Christian themes?  Even worse, she comes from a Christian background--what if she thinks I’m trying to convert her kids like a shitty Evangelical person?!

Me:  Look, your boss KNOWS  you love C.S. Lewis!  He’s had conversations with you about it!  He’s just happy that you’re getting his kids books because he doesn’t have time to!  He wouldn’t take it in a bad way!

Also me:  BUT WHAT IF HIS FAMILY THINKS I’M ONE OF THOSE EVANGELICAL PEOPLE AND THEN I NEVER GET TO BE INVITED TO A SEDER AND--

FUCK IT THEY’RE GETTING “THE HOBBIT”.

What do you think about Narnia tattoos? I really want the flower from LWW (page 121 in my book) but I have mixed feelings and I'd love others opinions.

Hi!🌹 My copy of TLWW doesn’t have the flower you mentioned, so I can’t tell you my opinion on that specific tattoo design, but I think that in general with tattoos (since you’ll have to keep it for a long time!) it’s better to be sure about your choice. Since you have fixed feelings, try to ask yourself these questions and see if they can help you.

Does the design fit your dream aesthetic for yourself? Do you want for the thing it represents to become part of you? Would it be uncomfortable for you to show it in public? Eventually, imo the heart of the matter is: do you like it? If yes, and you really want it, I think that there’s nothing that should stop you from getting it.

I’ve never had a tattoo, so I’m not sure if this is going to help you…If not, don’t hesitate to send me another ask! And if there are any of my followers that have more experience in this sort of things, please don’t hesitate to chime in💕
