hey I don’t know if you’re still writing for Thomas barrow but if you are can you write one where the female reader is the one who finds Thomas kissing Jimmy instead of Alfred? And maybe the reader and Thomas are kind of enemies before that? But she covers for him/helps him anyways? Thank you so much I love your Thomas barrow series 💌

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~°~❦~°~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     “Miss (Y/l/n)?”
     You looked up from your stitching to see a man staring down at you.
     Thomas Barrow.
     His eyebrows were raised expectantly and you fought the urge to roll your eyes as he waited for you to acknowledge him.
     “To what do I owe this pleasure?” You prompted.
     “Mrs. Hughes is looking for you. Something about one of Her Ladyship’s evening gowns.”
     You smiled your sweetest smile up at the footman-turned-valet.
     “Well, I appreciate you passing along the message,” you said as you continued to hem the skirt you were working on.
     Still, Thomas didn’t leave. “You’d best get going, don’t you think? Mrs. Hughes sounded pretty urgent and I wouldn’t want you to get involved in any unfortunate circumstance.”
     “No you wouldn’t,” you muttered under your breath sarcastically as you got up and walked down the hall.
     You and Thomas didn’t exactly get on, to put it mildly. Honestly you’d be surprised if Mrs. Hughes even needed you and it wasn’t all just a ploy by Thomas to waste your time. It wouldn’t be the first time, you thought sardonically.
     From the moment you arrived at the Abbey, Thomas had began his life’s mission of forever tormenting you and making your work at Downton just a little bit harder. You had tried to be friendly to him at first, but to no avail for he seemed determined to let you know that you didn’t belong here.
     Not that he was particularly amiable with any of the downstairs staff, but he seemed to especially have it out for you.
Most likely because you were the only one who challenged. He wasn’t the only one who could come up with sabotaging schemes.
     And he did have so many bloody schemes.
     Like the time right after you’d been hired when he’d convinced you that even though you weren’t a part of the kitchen staff, you needed to pick up some groceries for Mrs. Patmore. He sent you into town and you’d been lost for hours searching before you’d ran into Anna—bless her heart—who told you that the grocer was on the other side of town and the delivery wasn’t even supposed to be ready for another week.
     You’d gotten him back (with some help from Mrs. O’Brien, who’d been feeling particularly miffed at Thomas that day and was willing to return the favor in any way she could) by shrinking His Lordship’s trousers.
     The furious yet shocked look on his face—like he’d finally found a worthy competitor—still brought a smile to your face on particularly dark days.
     Needless to say, your relationship had been filled with nothing but stiff quips,  scathing remarks, and the occasional act of sabotage since then.
     You reached your destination and peered into Mrs. Hughes office.
     “Mr. Barrow said you needed me?”
     “And Mr. Barrow would be right,” Mrs. Hughes agreed, turning to you and smiling wryly. “I can’t make heads or tails of this gown.”
     You picked up the mess of fabric she had gestured to and set to work mending. The skirt you were working on could wait.
     As you turned the dress over, you couldn’t help but smirk to yourself. Thomas? Truthful for once?
     He must have some ulterior motive.
     You’d be surprised if the skirt was still there when you got back—or if it didn’t have significantly more holes than when you’d left it.
₊˚ ✧ ‿︵‿୨୧‿︵‿ ✧ ₊˚
     You walked into the servants hall the next morning, tired as hell from working on Her Ladyship’s gown all night.
     You practically fell into your chair as Daisy came around and poured your tea. You thanked her absentmindedly as you began to nibble on some toast.
     “Don’t you look nice, Miss (Y/l/n),” Thomas smiled at you but it was all but a compliment.
     O’Brien smirked beside him and you narrowed your eyes at both of them.
     “Nice of you to take notice,” you shot back.
     “Is it a crime, to butter up one’s coworker?” He kept eye contact with you as he stirred his tea slowly.
     “Depends who’s doing the buttering,” you leveled your gaze at his dark eyes.
     “Speaking of butter, can we get any around here?”
     A blond man sauntered into the room, taking a seat at the servants table and looking around at the present company. You felt Thomas shift across from you.
     “I’m serious, just because we’re working class don’t mean we have to eat turnips and bread our whole lives.”
     “I beg your pardon, I didn’t know the King of England was visiting,” O’Brien mumbled.
     “Only saying,” Jimmy said. “I’d like to be able to eat what I like, when I like without being an earl or a duke.”
     Jimmy Kent. The newest addition to the well-oiled machine that was Downton Abbey. And how could you forget? What, with all of the maids talking of nothing else since he arrived. You agreed that he was pleasant looking, but he was too much of a flirt for your liking.
     He leaned back in his chair, as if daring anyone to contradict him.
     “And what would you like to eat, Jimmy?” Thomas glanced over at him.
     “All of England, if it pleases me.”
     “I’ll put in a good word with Mrs. Patmore,” Thomas smiled at Jimmy and you were baffled at how it actually looked genuine.
     In fact, Thomas had seemed to take a liking to Jimmy from the moment he arrived. He was about the only person who Thomas treated like an equal.
     He must be using him, you thought. Trying to lure him into the trap of friendship before getting him fired or something of the like.
     “You most certainly will not,” Mrs. Patmore answered, walking into the room. “The moment I start taking requests from you lot—”
     “Is a moment that will not happen anytime soon,” Mr. Carson cut in from the head of the table glancing authoritatively at all of the servants finishing their breakfast.
     “Why would Mrs. Patmore take your word anyway,” you looked to Thomas, “When anything you recommend is likely to be made of cement?”
     “Feisty this morning, are we? Bold for the girl who, as I recall, left the Duchess of Frescershire quite unhappy with a dress that very likely felt like cement.” Thomas spat.
     Your hand made a fist and you yearned to climb across the table and use it, but you checked yourself and only glared at the man across from you.
     Thomas raised an eyebrow at you, standing up and glancing in Jimmy’s direction before turning around and heading down the hall.
     “I think I’ll be going also,” O’Brien left her seat quickly, giving a small smile, her eyes following Thomas’s as she walked to catch up to him.
     Likely plotting, you thought. Well, let them to it. The last thing you needed to be doing right now in your tired state was wasting energy thinking about Thomas Barrow.
     You finished your tea, exiting the room and preparing for your days work. The girls were already dressed, so you could devote your time to downstairs work for the time being.
     You passed Thomas and O’Brien in the hall, both of which quickly stiffened their posture and looked at you as you walked past, ceasing their very obvious confidence. But not before you heard the words certain, return, and Jimmy.
     You didn’t even want to bother figuring out what they were gossiping about. Nothing good, you knew that. Best to stay out of it while you still could.
     Thomas had nearly gotten you sacked a number of times and it wasn’t going to happen again.
₊˚ ✧ ‿︵‿୨୧‿︵‿ ✧ ₊˚
     Sleep. It was all you could think about as you walked down the hall, having finished your days work and being ever so ready to hit the hay.
     Everyone else had already gone to bed and you were the last to leave the servants hall. You were almost to your room, thinking of how to avoid waking the maid that you shared your room with, when someone called your name.
     “Miss (Y/l/n)?”
     “Mrs. Hughes.” You greeted her.
     “Do you have minute?”
     “I suppose I do.”
     “I don’t like to ask you to do this, but Lady Mary has asked to have her purple evening gown from last season ready to wear tomorrow. I would ask one of the footmen as it’s through the men’s corridors, but you’re the only servant still awake—”
     You internally cursed Lady Mary. Out loud you weakly said, “Straight away, Mrs. Hughes.”
     You supposed it worked out for the best. As it turned out, Thomas had done something with the skirt you’d been mending—which just so happened to be needed by Lady Edith the next day—and it might give you a chance to see if he’d hidden it anywhere where he thought you would never go.
     You didn’t say any of this to Mrs. Hughes though, you just smiled and walked in the opposite direction.
     The male servant’s corridor was dark and you had trouble finding your way around without a lantern. You could make out the outlines of doorways, the doors all shut tight for the nighttime.
     Now which door was the storage room?
     You found it fairly quickly considering the circumstance and sorted through until you found the aforementioned dress.
     Now, to reward yourself, you thought, a little snooping was in order.
     You walked farther down the hall to what you assumed were the bedrooms.
     Again, the doors were all closed and most likely locked. You cursed under your breath. You were staring to head back before your eye caught on a glint of light spilling into the hallway from the far end of the corridor.
     You headed farther into the hall and you saw it. A door, propped open just enough to see that there was someone standing in it, their form outlined by the moonlight.
     You crept closer, peering through the gap.
     Thomas. His back was to you, but you could see him slowly inching closer to a bed on the far wall.
     Except, he wasn’t alone. You could barely make out someone already sleeping. The room appeared to only have one bed, not a shared room, you thought.
     Which meant—
     You heard a cry. A rustle of blankets. You dared to open the door just a little bit more.
     “What in the bloody hell—”
     You looked up in time to see Thomas leaning over Jimmy, a look of pure horror and shock on the latter’s face. Thomas backed up quickly, while Jimmy stood in outrage.
     “Did you just try to—” Jimmy’s surprise quickly turned to anger as he took a step towards the other man.
     Your mind could hardly work fast enough, watching all of this unfold. You couldn’t believe what you were seeing. If this was what you thought it was—
     You weren’t paying attention and you leaned forwards, your foot stepping on a creaky board—curse this old house—and alerting both men. Thomas turned around and his eyes landed on yours.
     “Miss (Y/l/n), this isn’t what it looks like, alright? If you think I invited him, than you’re mistaken.” Jimmy looked flustered and you looked from him to Thomas.
     Thomas opened his mouth, as if to say something. He looked pained and miserable.
     You almost forgot yourself and felt bad for him.
     He tried to say something again but instead just looked from you to Jimmy and then rushed out of the room.
     You couldn’t do anything but follow him.
     “Mr. Barrow—”
     Abruptly, he stopped and turned around to face you. His posture was straight and he spoke as is if he were discussing the weather.
     “You got what you wanted, didn’t you, Miss (Y/l/n)?”
     You didn’t respond.
     “I’m sure you’d just love to see me sacked, wouldn’t you?” Thomas bit out.
     “Now—”
     “Go on, tell Mr. Carson. Tell His Lordship. Tell the bloody King. Finally got an excuse to see the end of me. I reckon no one’ll even bat an eye, neither.”
     Even in the dark, could see the pain and loneliness and fear in his expression that he was trying to hide with his harsh words.
     You’d imagined the moment Thomas Barrow would get thrown out on his ear many a time. You’d always pictured the way you’d smirk as he left Downton for the last time. How you’d shout ‘good riddance’ for all to hear. You’d conjured up a million different circumstances just like this.
     Except never like this. Not with Thomas weak, practically giving up. You couldn’t say it didn’t sound appealing, getting rid of him. You had the advantage. But suddenly, you didn’t want it.
     “You must think more of me than that, Mr. Barrow.”
     “I don’t know what you mean,” his voice was rough.
     “I mean, I better get back with this dress ‘fore they send a search party.”
     You started to walk past Thomas, but he stepped in front of you.
     “So, that’s it? No victory speech?” Thomas glared down at you.
     You had the urge to slap the look off his face but you took a deep breath.
     “Victory over what? I didn’t see nothing to make me victorious. And by that, I mean I didn’t see nothing at all.”
     You winked at him once leaving him standing there to process that as you hurried back in the direction you came.
     You nearly laughed at the turn of events as you found your way back in the dark. You, covering for Thomas Barrow.
     Never in your wildest dreams…
₊˚ ✧ ‿︵‿୨୧‿︵‿ ✧ ₊˚
      The next day, Thomas could hardly look at you. Whenever he rounded a corner and found you on the other side, he stopped, looked like he wanted to speak to you, and then hurried on past.
     You didn’t exactly expect him to bake you a cake or nothing, but you supposed a decent thank you was in order for saving his arse.
     However, for all he wasn’t looking at you, he was looking at Jimmy. Except this time, instead of the look of friendship (or more, you supposed) it was now a look of apprehension.
     Most likely afraid Jimmy would take his story himself to Mr. Carson.
     And you didn’t see any reason why he wouldn’t. From the look of him, you thought as you sat across from him at the servants table, he looked ready to pounce.
     Before you could stop yourself and advise against it, you walked up to him. “Jimmy, may I have a word?”
     You couldn’t have your one act of kindness ruined by any loose ends.
     As Jimmy followed you into the boot room you felt O’Brien’s eyes on you and promptly ignored them.
     You got straight to the point, “I wish to talk about what happened last night.”
     “I bloody don’t,” Jimmy responded, his eyes flashing, “it was awful, that’s what it was.”
     “It was a misunderstanding,” you supplied.
     The footman scoffed, “No, I think I understood perfectly alright.”
     “What I mean to say is, I hope you don’t plan to make this misunderstanding something bigger than it is.”
     “I have to tell the police, that’s what I have to do! I’ve been talking to Miss O’Brien and—”
     “And I hope you see how ill advised that would be,” you finished.
     He raised an eyebrow at you.
     “You wouldn’t want to seem like you were mixed up in…something of that nature.”
     “I don’t understand,” Jimmy said.
     “You wouldn’t want anyone to think you’re in on anything disgusting, would you?”
     Personally, you didn’t find anything particularly disgusting about the whole situation. You figured Thomas could kiss whoever he liked, for all you cared as long as it wasn’t you. But you knew that wasn’t going to work with Jimmy.
     “Well no but—”
     “Because if you go around spinning your story, someone down the line is bound to think you weren’t all against it, if you know what I’m getting at,” you said.
     A look of horror passed Jimmy’s face.
     “And besides I don’t think you’re the kind of person who would want to get a man fired, are you?”
     He paused. “Why do you care if I get Mr. Barrow sacked? You don’t seem to get on with him anyways.”
     “Oh, I don’t care what happens to Mr. Barrow,” you said with a smirk, “I just wouldn’t want this unfortunate incident to cause more of a quagmire for anyone than is necessary.”
     Jimmy nodded, “Well, I wouldn’t want anyone’s reputation ruined for it I suppose.”
     You smiled.
     “And by that, I can’t pretend I don’t mean my own,” he added.
     “Who knows,” you said, “you and Barrow might end up being friends eventually.”
     “Friends?” He sounded incredulous, “I doubt it.”
     “I think there’s more to Thomas than meets the eye,” you said cryptically. “Either way, think about what I said.”
     He looked at you a moment, pondering, before nodding at you and leaving the room quickly.
     You breathed out a sigh.
     “Well, that was quite the speech, Miss (Y/l/n).”
     You whirled around, finding Thomas standing in the doorway. How much of your conversation with Jimmy had he heard?
     “And what are you doing here, Mr. Barrow? I can’t say following Jimmy around like a lost puppy is well advised anymore.”
     Thomas clenched his teeth, looking at you. “It is a public place, isn’t it?”
     You were both silent for a moment, as you calculated what to say next. Mr. Barrow beat you to it.
     “I wanted to say thank you,” it looked like it cause him pain to say the words to you, his sworn nemesis.
     “I would have been sacked if it weren’t for you, though I still can’t quite understand why you did it, and I thank you for it,” he finished. “I’m not sure I deserve it, but I’m grateful.”
     “Well, I can’t say it’s not entirely out of self interest,” you said, straightening, “seeing as I can’t torture you if you’re gone, I saw no reason to be the one to end that.”
     Thomas almost smiled. “That was quite an act of deception you pulled with Jimmy.”
     “Would you believe me if I said I learned from the best?”
     “Now, I’m not sure I deserve your compliments as well as your pity,” Thomas said.
     “Really, there’s no need to think yourself so special. I was speaking of Miss O’Brien.”
     Thomas let out a laugh and you couldn’t help but smile at him. He wasn’t all bad, you could see that. And you couldn’t imagine Downton without him now that you had been faced with the possibility.
     “Well, I hope you don’t expect us to be friendly now,” you warned, to break the silence and whatever the spell that had fallen over you two was that made you act most unlike yourselves. Sharing a companionable silence? Never!
     “I wouldn’t wish being your friend on my worst enemy, let alone take part in it myself.” Thomas brushed invisible lint off of his jacket.
     You rolled your eyes at him, but it didn’t hold any real conviction.
     “Well, I suppose I ought to get on with my work,” you said, moving past Thomas. “Wouldn’t want to get behind on your account.”
     “You are a queer woman, aren’t you?” Thomas said not unkindly.
     “I could say the same to you.”
     You turned around, your tone more serious than it had just been
     “And for what it’s worth, I don’t think you’re disgusting, Mr. Barrow.”
     Thomas was silent.
     “Horrid and self-serving and haughty and a pain in my rear end. But not disgusting.”
     “I could say the same to you,” Thomas echoed your earlier statement.
     You left without another word.
     You didn’t think that you and Thomas would be companions, exactly. But you left that room with a greater fondness for him that you’d ever felt. You understood him more, if nothing else.
     And you thought you could guess he felt a little of the same way too.
₊˚ ✧ ‿︵‿୨୧‿︵‿ ✧ ₊˚
     The next morning, as you began your day by checking the work you’d left out the night before, you found a new lump of fabric atop the pile.
     You picked it up and let the cloth fall through your fingers.
     It was the skirt you were working at from earlier this week. Barely recognizable, however. It was mended, certainly. The holes were fixed and the hem had been replaced. It looked brand new, better than anything you could have done.
     Thomas.
     It must have been him. You found yourself smiling to yourself.
     “Well then, I suppose we’re even, Mr. Barrow, aren't we?” you mumbled.
     Except for the fact that him taking it in the first place had delayed you getting the skirt to Lady Edith by a day.
     But you’d get him back somehow, you thought, smiling.
     You always did.
The New Worker [part one]
Pairings: Thomas Barrow x platonic!teen!reader
Imagine: Thomas Barrow has a soft spot for the new worker
Warnings: angst, fluff, none else I believe
A/N Writing Thomas Barrow fics instead of actual request 🤝 Me
so I have no clue if it’s bad or not but I always liked Thomas from the beginning, my father think it’s only bc he’s gay, but it’s not, sure obviously I like that they have a gay character in Downton Abbey but it’s not the reason for why I like him
Oh and btw I have no clue how old you must be to be a maid/footman so I just go with that you can be a teenager for the fics sake. Anyway I hope you all will enjoy this as it’s my first time writing for Downton Abbey
NOT PROOFREAD yet I was just too excited to post it. Sorry :) And sorry if the characters are a bit wrong I’m trying to get the right way to write them the next ones will be better
[Next Part] [Masterlist)
Tumblr media
Thomas had no clue who you were but as soon as he saw you he knew you’d be the death of him. The way you radiated kindness without doing anything but to stand still said something about you.
You had walked into the servants hall with a nervous and anxious smile stuck on your face. He had waited for you to say something. Anything really. But nothing came out of your mouth except for a small hello which your voice decided to crack in the middle of, so it came out in a way similar to a stutter. Thomas guessed you were a very shy and anxious person. So instead he decided to take some steps forward as he said hello and asked who you were. For some reason his mean demeanor had dropped and he made himself sound as nice as he could without making it like those baby voices you make to babies.
You had glanced up to actually look at his face and he had a smile plastered on it which was far more confident than yours. And as he was the first friendly face you saw — Carson having previously let you in while he dealt with something else (he had a rather angry look on his face) — you decided to speak up as good as you could. You weren’t much for talking, being a nervous and anxious wreck at the moment. But you tried to speak without any cracks or wavering to your voice.
“I’m Y/N L/N… the new maid/footman” Your voice might not have wavered or cracked but you did pause for a rather long second before you said the last part. Thomas noticed but didn’t comment. He had heard that there would be a new maid/footman but he didn’t know that you would be this young. You couldn’t be older than nineteen but you looked younger than that, maybe around sixteen to eighteen. He didn’t quite know how you managed to get a job that high in the ranking at such an age but it was an accomplishment that’s for sure. So he voiced his thoughts.
“You seem awfully young to have gotten such a job” his voice had reverted slightly to his usual one but you didn’t seem to notice at least you didn’t comment on it, the way that he didn’t comment on your shy stutters.
“Well I-“ you got cut of by the booming voice of Mr. Carson who was done with the matter he had previously had to deal with. Now it seemed like he could deal with you and let you in on all the information. He told you to follow him. And you did as he led you to his office. Leaving the kind man as you called Mr. Barrow behind.
Thomas being his usual self went to stand outside of Mr. Carson’s office. He didn’t have anything better to do anyway he was done with everything for the moment. So it wouldn’t hurt to listen in on their conversation.
He could hear most of the conversation but some words were muffled by the walls between Thomas and the two of you. Thomas could just barely make out your faint voice as words stuttered out from your mouth. It was all the usual boring information. About how he wanted you to learn as quickly as possible, that you were to make no mistakes, no scandals for the family, and blah blah blah. Well that’s until Mr. Carson told you to go find the man you had talked to before. “Mr. Barrow is to give you a tour around the house today and introduce you to everyone as he is the only one we can spare at the moment” with that Thomas heard a chair scrape the floor and realised that Mr.Carson was about to open the door. Thomas hurriedly walked a few meters away from the door to make it seem like he was walking toward the two of you. Luckily for Mr. Barrow, the door didn’t open for a few more minutes.
However when it did open Carson’s booming voice called out to Thomas and he quickly made his way to Carson and you. Carson told Thomas what he already knew. That he was to see you around the house and introduce you to everyone.
As the butler turned and walked away Thomas heard a breathy sigh escape your lips before he turned to you. He guessed you thought the butler was scary. He couldn’t blame you though as the first thing you had seen of Carson was him angry at a footman who did something wrong.
Instead of commenting on it like he usually did with everyone else he decided to ask another time. “Well come on then” Your head turned to him at those words. Innocent anxious eyes staring up at him. He thought you looked more like a child than a teenager at this moment (which would turn out to be a lot of moments in the future). He couldn’t help but to smile your way before he stalked forward towards the kitchen. While he did so he pointed out everything and every person that walked by. So far you knew who Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes were, plus a few maids and who the footmen were.
Eventually you were both in the kitchen where Thomas pointed out who everyone was. The cook, Mrs. Patmore was a short, round older woman with ginger hair. The young kitchen maid was Daisy who seemed to get yelled out a lot for things she did wrong. She had smiled saying a “Hello” to you before she went back to work. While Mrs. Patmore said a hello before going back to work, yelling for Daisy to take out whatever was in the oven.
Next thing William who was the footman as well as Mr. Barrow beside you walked into the kitchen. As the observer that you were, you noticed that William literally had heart eyes Daisy’s way. William was a blonde young man who seemed rather nice, a bit clumsy but nice. Not like Mr. Carson who seemed rather scary and angry all the time. Mrs. Hughes seemed nice enough, stern but nice. Then there was Sarah O’Brien. She was a friend of Thomas but you didn’t like her that much, she didn’t seem that friendly and looked like a person who stuck their noses where they didn’t belong (being completely oblivious about Thomas). Anna however was a blonde woman who was way too nice. She was the second one to show you any kindness after Thomas. Mr. Bates was the one person you couldn’t quite make out an opinion on yet, he was pretty nice but he glared daggers at Thomas who did the same back to Bates.
But in the end it didn’t matter if you only liked Thomas or if you liked everyone. They all seemed to adore you, even Lord Grantham and his family seemed to adore you.
・*:.。. .。.:*・゜゚・*
As time passed by you were still as shy as when you got there. It seemed like you didn’t want to talk to anyone and you mostly stayed in your room. But people still adored you. Because whenever you did speak or was out of your room you spoke nothing but kindness. It was in your nature. No one had ever seen you as anything but kind at Downton Abbey. They adored how you could naturally be that way. How even though you didn’t like someone you still showed nothing but kindness towards them. That’s why it was so strange to everyone that you weren’t drawn to the second most kindest soul at Downton. You weren’t drawn to Anna. Rather you were drawn to one of the troublemakers, to one of the mean ones as they called Mr. Barrow.
You didn’t know why they called Thomas mean and a bully. He had done nothing wrong to you. Mr. Barrow had done nothing wrong whenever you were near him. He was like a saint in your eyes. He was the first to show you kindness at Downton, even though everyone did. Thomas was still the first. For some reason you trusted Thomas more than the others. Maybe because he was the first one you talked to at Downton. You didn’t quite know.
Thomas however was no saint. No he only acted kind whenever you were around. Everyone noticed it. Though they thought it nice of Thomas to actually be nice for a change it was still only when you were around. Why he was so kind to you they didn’t know but no one could resist but to adore you, not even Thomas Barrow. He could act as mean as he liked whenever you weren’t around but as soon as you came into the room he was kind, well kinder at least.
Maybe he thought that as you were here he could actually get a friend. That’s why he was nice to you. He needed a friend. And not just O’Brien who he plotted schemes with, no he wanted a real actual friend. That spot was open for you. And you were so overly oblivious to the real Thomas (well the real Thomas if you asked everyone else).
He saw it a bit strange however when you saw him for who he truly was for the first time. It was the time he had tried to get Bates sacked for the second time, which didn’t work. You had caught him in the process of it. Then a few days later you had seen him ask Daisy out when it was clear that William was about to do just that. Then a few days later he slipped up again when you were around. He started to slip up a lot and acted a lot meaner, just because he thought you would leave him when you knew who he truly was. But you didn’t. How wrong Thomas had been.
A few weeks later you found him outside while he was smoking. He had avoided you for the last couple of weeks and it had pained you so much that you had to eventually seek him out for yourself. You didn’t want to force yourself and Thomas into a friendship but it was what you wanted. A friendship with Thomas Barrow.
He was standing against a wall as he blew out smoke. It was how you usually found him outside. Smoking.
“Thomas” he turned around. Watching as you stepped towards him. Thomas stopped what he was doing as you stood in front of him. A kind smile plastered on your lips. He hadn’t ever seen you this confident before. It was a change from your usual shy expression.
Thomas let his grip on the cigarette go. When it fell to the ground he stepped on it twisting his foot so that the glow would go out. He readied himself to go inside when your hand stopped him. “Thomas please, I just want to speak” he stopped and looked down on the hand in his forearm. Then he turned around to you and waited for you to speak. He didn’t like ignoring you but he thought it better than to hear your voice tell him that you didn’t want to be his friend anymore. He was so wrong about that. If he had let you talk a lot sooner he would have known that you were still friends. “I just- I” you were back to your shyness again as Thomas stared you down. “I hope we could still be friends, I- I know you probably don’t as- as you have been ignoring me, but I do want to be your friend- it seems like you don’t have a lot of those and- and I’d like to be one of them”
Thomas genuinely smiled. He hadn’t smiled in the last couple of weeks not since he started to avoid you.
・*:.。. .。.:*・゜゚・*
A couple days later after your talk with Thomas you went to Thomas once more. Mr. Carson had told you to fix a clock. No one else could be spared so he against his wishes had left it to you. But as you had no idea on how to do it you needed to ask for help. And as Thomas was the only person you really trusted you went to him. Hoping for your life that he knew how to fix a clock.
Luckily he did. He told you that his father used to be a clockmaker and he used to work as a child for his father. So he obviously helped you. But had it been anyone else he would have told them to ask someone else, as he had a lot of tasks to do that day that didn’t involve fixing clocks.
It was how Anna had found you two. Fixing a clock while Thomas was supposed to clean all the silver with William. Anna had previously been looking for Thomas for William who was now halfway done with the silver. But Anna didn’t want to destroy one of the happy moments Thomas had. Because for once he actually smiled. Not the polite servant's smile. No an actual smile that went to his eyes.
You had messed something up and Thomas and you were now laughing as he had to help you fix it. The two of you talked a lot. Your voice might still be quiet but you did talk without stuttering. Which Anna thought was good as it meant you had someone who could help you boost your confidence even if it was the troublemaker Thomas Barrow.
Eventually Thomas saw Anna and his demeanor changed instantly. His once smile turned into his normal servant expression. He glared a bit at Anna as he realised she had been standing there for a while observing how he was with you. How he was so soft on you as he had talked with a kind voice and as he listened patiently to every word you said.
He patted you on the back and told you the last step before he went up and went away to do his duties.
After that time it seemed like you were less afraid to talk. You started to talk with people more and be out of your room a bit more. But still you only ever really talked to Thomas. You might have a bit of small talk with others. But nothing compared to your talks with Thomas. He always knew what to say to you. He always boosted your confidence. And he might have been a bit jealous the first time he saw you have a conversation with someone that wasn’t him. But what you only ever did with Thomas was ask him questions. Every question you had was asked to Thomas. And Thomas happily answered all of them.
It was still so strange for everyone to see you and Thomas together. Thomas was like a whole new person. But he wasn’t. No, you just brought out Thomas without all the walls. Thomas who didn’t have walls to protect him from everything. He didn’t need to be scared that he wasn’t accepted by you that he didn’t fit in. Because no matter what you’d still be there with him. And Thomas knew that so he let the real him show for you, the hurt, the kind, everything. Thomas protected and comforted you as you have protection and comfort to him. He might not want to admit it but he did have a soft spot for you and if anything happened to you he didn’t know what he would do.
Thomas barrow x deaf!reader - we’re both different
Tumblr media
Hey, is it possible to request a Thomas Barrow x deaf!reader where the reader is also a servant and Thomas is the only one who bothered to get to know her and communicate with her? Thank you. - Anon💜
A/N: italics will be sign language
Sitting at the table, you looked at the book in front of you as you ignored the dinner in front of you, completely unaware of everything else going on around you.
“Put down your book and finish eating before it’s too late.” Mrs Patmore said.
Thomas glanced up from his own plate, and he watched as everybody looked at you.
Your book was taken from you and you looked around confused, brows furrowed and Daisy pointed to your plate.
You looked at Thomas.
Why did she take my book?
He gestured to your plate and you nodded, picking up your knife and fork.
“Give me the book Daisy.”
“Of course.”
She beamed brightly as she brought it over and he snatched it back from her, just like she had done to you.
You hadn’t done anything to deserve the way they treated you, and now they were teaching Daisy and any other new servant that joins to do the same thing to you.
Thomas didn’t agree with it, just because you were different to them.
He was different to them.
You ate your dinner, watching as your plate was taken away from you and he watched as everybody else left.
Walking over, he sat next to you, handing you your hook back and you grinned brightly at him in thanks as you opened it again.
After a few minutes you felt a tap on your arm, and you turned around to face him.
Put the book down for a moment.
You nodded your head, turning your attention fully to him.
Do you understand why they do what they are doing to you?
Because I’m different. I know.
He sighed, nodding his head.
It’s okay, I’m used to it. Everybody always treats me different.
He leant back in his chair, lighting a cigarette.
Does it bother you?
You shook your head, smiling softly at him.
No. I have you. That’s enough friends for me.
We are not friends.
We are the best of friends.
Thomas rolled his eyes as you, and turned around so he couldn’t see you signing anymore and you smacked his shoulder.
He carried on ignoring you and you walked around him only for him to turn around once more.
Reaching to the table you too his tin and shook it so he knew that you had it.
He spun around and you put it up your sleeve was he wasn’t able to grab it back from you.
Don’t turn your back on me that’s not nice.
He held out his hand, waiting for you to return the tin to him.
No you don’t deserve to smoke. Smoking is bad anyway.
He picked up your book, tucking it into his liveries.
Come in!
He rose a brow in question, and you rolled your eyes, repeating the words a little slower this time.
Sometimes you forgot that Thomas was still just learning how to sign, he knew a bit when you arrived, and over time he picked up more from you.
Give me the tin and I will give you the book.
You huffed, crossing your arms.
Really? You are going to ignore me?
You turned to the side so you could still see him out the corner of your eyes, but you didn’t have to look at what he was saying.
Thomas scoffed a little, shaking his head as he picked up his news paper.
You weren’t exactly quiet when you moved, so when you tried creeping up on him he knew straight away.
You tried to grab the paper and he held it to the side, when you went that way to get it he stood up and held it up in the air so you couldn’t reach it despite how much you jumped for it.
Thomas smirked a little, looking at you as you huffed again and stopped, looking at him.
He held out his hand and you reached into your sleeve, holding out the tin and he set the paper down, taking it.
He took out a cigarette and walked away while you followed him.
When he was outside you hit his arm.
He smirked a little, pretending that he couldn’t see you.
You sat down next to him, knocking your shoulder into his a few times until he did the same thing, making you rub your shoulder where you collided with him.
Thomas tapped the back of your hand and you looked at him.
“You’re so childish.” He said slowly.
You are mean.
He reached into his pocket, handing you your book back.
“I know.”
You grinned brightly and took it.
Thomas rolled his eyes as he watched you run back inside to go carry on reading.
You weren’t a bad person, and he knew that, but in a way he was glad the others couldn’t use sign language like he could.
He could talk to you about things nobody else needed to hear about, and you always kept them to yourself.
You knew about him, who he was and why he was different and you were just happy to have a friend, you couldn’t care less that everybody else would find him revolting.
He knew what it was like to be persecuted for being different, and maybe that’s why he was so protective over you without realising it.
You were young, and it wasn’t your fault you were deaf, it just happened, and you needed somebody to watch over you and that’s what he would do
Two Swallows made a Summer
So I did a Thomas Barrow x Phillip Villiers x Reader...
Tumblr media
Y/N had always wanted to be a free woman. Emancipated. Strong.
But even though there were more and more women's rights movements in the country, it was still complicated.
When she was still very young, she had fled her family who wanted to marry her by force to the son of the neighbours.
Poor Victor wasn't a bad boy. He was going to inherit his parents' store, he was quite a handsome, kind and well-behaved young man.
But Y/N didn't want this life. She didn't want marriage. It was a prison, in which she would become her husband's servant, having to ask his permission to do everything, even work. And she should give him children.
No, really, thank you but no thank you.
It might seem paradoxical that she should become a maid.
But she couldn't find a better job and at least she was earning her own money, which she could spend however she wanted, and in her spare time she could do whatever she wanted without asking anyone's permission.
Besides, the Crawleys were really lovely people.
Well, their daughters were sometimes a little temperamental. And the grandmother could be very severe. And a lot of very bizarre adventures happened to them.
But at least Y/N was never bored, she always had a lot of work, a nice room, she was treated well and her colleagues were quite competent.
At first, she simply had some trouble with Thomas.
Everyone had some trouble with Thomas.
Mister Barrow was a complicated man. Secret. Cold and sarcastic. Sometimes mean.
It took her a while to realize that it was a defence mechanism for him, to avoid being seen as weak, manipulated and hurt. What he had been in the past.
But, knowing this, it was not to be answered with pity. On the contrary.
           "You are late Y/N."
           "Seems to me you're the one ahead Thomas."
           "And once again I have to remind you that you're supposed to call me Mr. Barrow."
           "In life we are supposed to do many things, and sadly it is not always possible for us to do all of them, Thomas. But in any case I am not late."
His shocked look made her smile. Then he resumed his neutral expression, which made her snicker, and suddenly, a true miracle, he snickered with her.
They became friends very quickly after that. It was quite by chance that she discovered his biggest secret. What he called his evil inclinations.
Y/N didn't see the problem with that. What someone did in the privacy of their bedroom was nobody's business. It was just a shame he couldn't be happy and himself the rest of the time. He just wanted to be free too.
           "...Do you really think that ?"
           "Sure."
           "When Carson found out, he was mortified. And now he's using me to detect which servant or guest are like me."
           "Mr. Carson knows ? And he didn't have a heart attack ?"
           "Unfortunately no."
The decision to get married was obvious after a year together.
Of course, they didn't love each other. Not like this.
But Thomas respected her desire for independence, he treated her as an equal, and he expected absolutely nothing from her. She could do whatever she wanted without ever telling him, they wouldn't sleep in the same bed, not even in the same room, and they would only have children if one day they both wanted to, which was not the case at the moment.
Even though Thomas loved children, he loved his job even more.
For her part, Y/N had to allow Thomas to hide his secret. The announcement of the engagement surprised everyone, and at the same time, their union seemed obvious. They were perfect together.
When they were alone, Carson asked if Barrow was cured, or if he was taking advantage of poor Y/N's naivety. When he realized that she was absolutely not naive, and perfectly aware of Thomas' particular situation, he nodded and left.
The decision to accept a position with the Villiers was not so obvious.
           "Villiers... Wait, that's not the name of the Duke with who you..."
           "Yes."
           "My God. And he wants you to work for him ?"
           "I'm pretty sure Philip knows nothing about this job offer. It's his wife who's looking for a new valet. I believe Mrs. Crawley recommended me."
           "Are you going to accept ?"
           "I do not know."
The place was much better than the one Thomas occupied at Downton Abbey. Better paid. He would have more responsibilities, he would be recognized very quickly as a good employee, and maybe one day he would become a butler.
The letter indicated that he could perfectly well come with his wife, there would be a position for Y/N if she wished.
The Duke and Duchess had two children. Thomas really loved children.
Crowborough was truly a beautiful place.
Everything was perfect.
There was only one small problem. Philip.
           "Maybe he's forgotten. Or forgiven. You've got nothing left to blackmail him with anyway. And you're married now. If you show him you've moved on, that you're behaving in exemplary valet who doesn't pay attention to him when it's not necessary, everything should be fine."
           "You just described the perfect challenge for Philip, who hates when he's not the center of attention."
They accepted the offer, deciding to be optimistic.
As he had expected, the Duke was not at first really pleased to see his former lover arrive. Then, as Thomas had also foreseen, he was not happy to be ignored, flirting as soon as he could with his new valet.
According to Thomas, the Duke hardly changed. He was still just as handsome, if not even more handsome. Very elegant, very attractive. Dangerous too.
Philip was discreet when his wife or witnesses were present, but he didn't seem concerned about shocking Y/N.
For a while she thought it was because he knew that she knew. Since they were married, Thomas had been with several men, and it hadn't bothered her at all.
On the contrary, she was happy for him, smiling, wishing him to finally find the right partner and teasing him when he returned with a mark on his neck and red cheeks.
But it turned out that Philip didn't know anything.
           "He thinks I'm making fun of you. And so he wants to make fun of you too. He's also hoping for a scandal when you find out."
           "It's a bit risky isn't it ?"
           "No, he's considering making a deal with you. Lots of money, for your silence, and to help you get a divorce. Then disgrace for me. That's a bit rough. I guess he's still mad at me for the letters."
           "Well, we both know you're safe. Do you want me to pretend to fall into his trap, or do you prefer to ignore him ?"
           "Hmm. Although I'd love to see his face when he realizes he got played, I'd rather focus on my work."
           "Thomas Barrow, getting serious and responsible. Or rather old and boring."
           "I'm asking for a divorce."
For several months, everything went well, which meant that Thomas and Y/N did their job, while Philip continued to have fun, resting his hand a little too long on the arm or on the back of his valet, whispering orders very close to his ear, and asking him to come and help him in his room when it was very late.
Sometimes Thomas came back with a strange expression. Without saying a word, Y/N patted the bed so that he came to sit next to her, he put his head on her shoulder and he let her cuddle him, massaging his neck.
He still loved Philip. Despite everything that had happened between them, of course he would always love Philip. He had been his first lover. They had shared something very strong. This situation made him suffer a lot.
In front of the Duke, Thomas did his best not to show anything, remaining calm and distant. But one word from Philip, and he might get down on his knees, kiss his hand, do anything for him.
In addition to this love, Thomas really appreciated the Duchess and their two children, who often asked to play with the valet.
It was probably for all these reasons that Thomas ran to their room after hearing a heated discussion between Philip and one of his guests.
           "It's... He knows. They have... The Baron wants to blackmail Philip !"
           "Like you with the letters ?"
           "Worse ! He has pictures !"
Like Thomas, in the years they hadn't seen each other, Philip had had other partners. Many. And contrary to what he had sworn after burning the letters, he hadn't always been careful.
Now a former lover who needed money dared to come to his house to threaten him. If he didn't give him what he wanted, he would show the pictures to his family and the rest of society. Philip would be humiliated, ruined, he would lose everything and would certainly go to prison.
           "...We have to do something." decided Thomas.
           "Do you think he took the pictures with him ?"
           "I don't know. But he doesn't live far away. I... I could get there quickly by train, while he's here. And you could search the room he's occupying while he's out."
           "Do you think they'll let you search his home ? But what am I saying, you're Thomas Barrow, of course they'll let you, you'll come up with a ridiculous excuse."
He kissed her on the forehead, smiling, before taking his coat to run to the station in the middle of the night.
For her part, Y/N waited for the moment when the Baron left his room to sneak inside. She did not find the photos, but incriminating letters and documents. She burned the ones that concerned Philip, and kept the others, just in case. To make sure he didn't keep the photos on him, she then waited for him to take a bath to search his clothes. Nothing.
It wasn't long before the Duke noticed his 'favourite' valet was missing. Y/N invented something, saying that he had received a telegram from his aunt who was seriously ill and who asked him to come. He was sorry, but he would be back soon.
           "Hmm." Philip mumbled, obviously not believing her. "Very well. But don't let that happen again."
           "Of course your Grace. Thank you for your understanding."
When Thomas returned, he looked satisfied. He gave her a wink, indicating that the mission was accomplished.
The Baron noticed that some of his evidence was missing, but unable to complain, and not knowing who had taken it, he left Crowborough. For several days, Philip was very tense, probably imagining that the pictures were going to be made public. Then after a week, he understood that he risked nothing more, by receiving a letter congratulating him for having destroyed everything.
The Duke did not understand, before looking at Thomas and Y/N, remembering the unexplained departure of his valet. Then he understood.
The Barrows understood that he had understood, because his attitude changed. He abruptly stopped flirting cruelly with Thomas, only observing them from afar, with insistence and what looked like admiration. It was strange.
When his wife and the children wanted to go to London, he ordered Thomas to accompany them, because he was really very good with the little ones.
This worried Thomas.
           "He's up to something."
           "What do you mean ?"
           "I know Philip. His wife's departure is a perfect opportunity for him to do whatever he wants. If he sends me with her, and not you... then you have to be careful."
           "Oh, he's going to kill me and hide my body in the cellar ?"
           "Nothing so dramatic. Philip hates getting his hands dirty. He will ask you to kill yourself, then he will get angry because you are not able to bury your own corpse. Please, be careful, he is vicious."
If Philip de Villiers, Duke of Crowborough, was vicious, then he hid it very well.
Even knowing his past, and having seen his manners since she worked for him, Y/N felt like meeting a new man as soon as they were alone.
Philip was nicer. More polite. Charming. Inviting her to sit down with him for tea and a chat. It was the first time they really talked.
To be fair to him, except when he was with Thomas, the Duke was not that bad most of the time. Good husband, great father, polite master, hard worker. Not much to say against him.
Being honest, he asked her if she knew about Thomas, and he was surprised to learn that she did. Surprised, but not disappointed. He thought it was wonderful.
           "I have to say, I didn't know what to think when I found out Thomas was married. I thought it was unfair to you. And... I was a bit jealous to be honest. Now I'm still jealous, but for others reasons."
           "Which ones, if I may ask ?"
           "You two are clearly friends. Very good friends. With no secrets from each other. You respect and help each other. I wish I had that with someone. With my position, I can't trust anyone. I have too many responsibilities to allow myself to risk my reputation. My wife is a nice woman, but I don’t love her and I know how she would react if she knew. She gave me everything, money, beautiful children. Sometimes it's hard to pretend. To feel so alone."
           "You are not always alone."
           "Ah ! And you have seen the result. I was threatened in my own home. I have to thank you for what you and Thomas have done for me. What can I do to repay you ?"
           "Nothing, your Grace. It was normal."
Philip looked skeptical. He hadn't expected this answer, convinced that the Barrows were going to ask him for something for their help, or that they had kept evidences against him.
Then, while cleaning his office, Y/N found Thomas's letters. She thought it was a coincidence at first, but later realized that Philip had left them there for her to see.
When he had told her about their relationship, Thomas was certain that Philip had burned all the letters long ago, long before he came to Downton to destroy the ones he had.
It was touching to find out that was not the case. That this relationship had really been important to the Duke, to the point that he retained those memories, even after Thomas tried to use his letters against him.
Y/N left them on the desk. Again, the Duke was surprised.
           "I thought you would have got them back."
           "Why ?"
           "I could harm your husband with these letters. Or you could harm me. Didn't you keep the photos ?"
           "No, Thomas destroyed them. As for the letters, they are yours."
So that was his plan. What he had in mind. The Duke believed that Thomas decided to use the pictures against him. He believed that Y/N, as greedy as him, was helping, and since she knew what her husband was, he had to find something else to save his reputation.
It was quite sad to be honest. Y/N was not as offended as she could have been.
           "Your Grace, I guess what you imagine. But Thomas has changed, he has grown up. He has no ill intentions towards you. As for me, I don't meddle in his business except when he asks me to. Like when he asked me to help you. I understand what you're going through. Well, in part. Like you said, you're a Duke, you have a lot of expectations on your shoulders that prevent you from being yourself. But I am a woman, who cannot say or do what I want, so I understand. I understand why you acted like you did. I understand that you loved him, but that it was not possible, and that his desperate attempt to stay with you displeased you. I understand Thomas, who felt used and abandoned. I know that if you could, you would have been together. I wish the world would leave us alone. But know that Thomas will never do anything to hurt you. And so I will never do anything to hurt him, or you."
Philip's response was to kiss her.
Not expecting it, Y/N doesn't react right away, before stepping back and leaving the room, shocked.
Until Thomas returned, she avoided the Duke like the plague, not knowing what to make of his gesture. The kiss had been quick. Pleasant. She didn't want to know if she liked it or not.
She did not dare speak to her husband about it. She didn't know how Thomas would react. Was Philip's goal to hurt his former lover by seducing his wife ? After what they had done for him ? Or it was something else... Was he even interested in women ? It made no sense.
The next week Philip resumed flirting with his valet. Only he was more gentle, more patient. More sincere. This surprised Thomas, who was not sure how to react. It reminded him of their summer, during which they had been very happy.
On top of that, Philip also started flirting with Y/N.
In fact, he often flirted with the Barrows, at the same time. This did not escape Thomas, of course.
           "...He touched your neck."
           "And he looked at your backside with shining eyes. Pass me the tablecloth please."
           "Why did he touch your neck ? And yesterday he had a weird smile."
           "He always has a weird smile."
           "No, I know that smile. It's...Y/N, did he do something when I was in London ?"
           "Can you pass me the plates ?"
           "Y/N."
           "Thomas."
           "You two are really adorable."
They jumped at the same time, which made Philip snicker, who was standing next to them, displaying the famous smile that Thomas was talking about. A huge, happy smile.
As if it was perfectly normal, he put a hand on their shoulder, leaning even closer.
           “To answer your question, yes, I did something. I couldn’t help myself. You know how I love beautiful brave little things. If it was inappropriate, I apologize. But if that wasn't the case... I would be delighted if you would come and help me tonight, to put me to bed. The two of you."
He said the last sentence with a kind of purr before going out of the living room, leaving the couple a bit lost, Thomas staring at her, before blushing and continuing to frantically clean the cutlery, while Y/N tried to catch her breath, putting the plates in their place.
           "... We're not going, are we ?"
           "Of course not."
           "That would be stupid."
           "Ridiculous."
           "He kept your letters."
           "Ah. I imagine he kissed you. He loves kissing."
           "Would you want him to kiss you ?"
           "No... Maybe. If he really needs help tonight, we should go. It's our job after all."
           "Indeed."
           "Unless it was inappropriate. Was it inappropriate ?"
           "It was surprising."
           "As I told you before, he can be vicious. Deceitful. And temperamental, demanding, lazy, annoying. It will be hard to... put him to bed."
           "I found him quite nice. He said he was jealous."
They finished their work in silence, side by side, knowing that they were going to spend the night in the room of the Duke.
And it will only be the first night.
At the Crowborough estate, they felt free, and at the same time imprisoned by love and desire.
Toys
Tom Holland x Reader
Friday Night Smut
Tumblr media
Warning: smut, language
Word count: 1086
Summary: Tom overheard you telling a friend that he was vanilla and so he decides to change your mind.
Okay I'm gonna start and say that my in box is filthy now. Lol lots of power play requests. Dom/sub. So I'm going to combine a few because they are super similar. There was multiple of dom!Tom using a toy on younestly? Mood. There is a second part that I will post tonight will be sub!Tom.
You made the mistake of Tom hearing you say that he was vanilla to your friend on the phone. He didn't say anything that day. Instead he waited until that evening and pulled out your toy that you thought he didn't know about. A simple vibrator that you used on your clit when he was gone for work.
Tom waited until you had both eaten dinner and were watching tv in bed. He leaned over and kissed your cheek. You smiled and kissed him softly. His hands wrapped around your waist and pulled you close.
"What has gotten into you, tiger?" You asked.
"Just want you," he said looking at you like prey. He placed his lips on yours and slipped his tongue in your mouth. His kiss was rough and demanding. His hands roamed your back and Tom broke the kiss to pull your top off. He tossed it across the room.
"Tom," you protested.
"Come here," he said pulling you on his lap. His lips found your neck and he nipped at the sensitive skin. Your protest died in a moan. He kneaded your breast. You pulled at his shirt and he stopped you.
"Not today, love," Tom said. He softly pushed you on your back. You looked on in confusion. Tom pulled out a bandana from his bedside table. "Is this okay?"
Your heart pounded. You really wanted to try being tied up but Tom seemed too sweet for that. You didn't trust your voice so you simply nodded. Tom smirked and you felt so wet and nervous. Why was he smiling like that?
He softly tied your hands together above your head. He ran a hand down your arm and pinched your nipple softly. You gasped. He pulled your pants down and off. This was a different Tom. His eyes gleamed and he just looked like trouble.
He climbed off the bed and you leaned up took at him. Tom went straight to your drawer where you hid the toy you used when he was gone. He pulled it out.
"How do you- how... babe?" You asked shocked. Tom stalked over to the bed.
"I've known about this for a long time, darling. You aren't that slick. But you are wet. Do you like this, love?" Tom asked. His voice. It had such confidence that you weren't used to.
"Y-yeah," you moan as he ran a finger along your slit. Tom watched your face as he slipped a finger in you. You closed your eyes as he thrust the finger in you as his thumb rubbed your clit.
"I want to see you cum from this," he waved the toy around. You nodded. Tom slid the device between your legs and up to your lips but not in. You panted as he turned the vibration on. He circled around your clit but never giving you what you really wanted.
He pushed the toy partially inside you and your hips jumped to ride it. You softly moaned. Tom removed the device and danced around your clit again. You could tell he was doing this on purpose and by this time you were throbbing.
"Tom, touch my clit. I want to cum," you begged. Tom thought your hands above your head held your breast up perfectly. He bent and kissed your nipple. You groaned as the vibrator was pulled away from your body.
"Tom, please. I need to cum."
He sat up and you could see the glint in his eyes as he placed the device on your clit. Your hips jumped and you moaned loudly. You soon felt your body tighten and you came. Your hips bounced and you moaned.
Tom pulled the toy away but instead pushed 2 fingers inside you. You saw stars. Your heart pounded and it was too much but at the same time exactly what you wanted. He bent and kissed your clit.
You moaned loudly at the hypersensitive feeling. He kissed it again and you began panting. His tongue lapped the poor bud. Tom's fingers never stopping inside you.
You felt your body tighten again and you couldn't believe you were close again. Tom wrapped his lips around your clit and sucked. You whimpered as you came for the second time.
He pulled his fingers out and climbed up to your face. He kissed you softly and you tasted your own wetness. Tom ran a hand across your body.
"You okay love?" He asked
"Yeah, I'm great."
"Good, I'm not done. I want you to cum on my cock," he said nibbling your earlobe.
"I don't know if I-"
"That's why we have this friend," Tom said grabbing the vibrator. He pulled his pants down and you could see he was painfully hard. He pumped himself a few times before climbed down to line up with your core. He sunk in.
He had never felt you so wet. He began moving. Your hypersensitive pussy felt every little movement. Tom grabbed the vibrator and slowly turned it on. He placed it on your nipple.
You began panting. The illusion of being tied up never felt so amazing. He slowly ran it down your body. Your hips jumped as he touched your clit with it again.
You felt almost overwhelmed but in such a good way. He roughly thrust deep in you. You softly wrapped your legs around his waist. The vibrator never left your clit.
Soon you could tell Tom was close. His breath grew ragged and his speed faltered. But your own release came on you quickly. You moaned and gasped before whining his name as your pussy clenched around his cock.
Tom groaned, sped up, and came with a moan. He pulled the vibrator away and turned it off. He pulled out and laid down beside you.
"What was that? Not that I'm complaining. That was-that was amazing," you said. Tom could tell. Your skin practically glowed and you looked fucked out.
"I guess you can't tell your girlfriends that I'm vanilla anymore," he said with cocky smile.
"You heard that?" You said with your eyes wide as your rolled over towards him.
"Yeah. I wasn't a fan."
"I'm sorry, tiger," you said softly.
"Love, it's okay. I just you know what's up," he said patting your bottom and winking.
Love at First Punch- Part 3
Damian Wayne x Reader
Summary- Reader is the daughter of green arrow and black canary and first meets Damian a couple weeks after he starts to live with Bruce. He says something rude and you punches him in the face and it’s been happily ever after ever since. When you are 18 you, Damian and Bart Allen get sucked into another universe. One where Thomas Wayne, your grandfather and Nora Allen are all alive and they are founding members of their justice league. In an attempt to get back to your universe Bart accidentally brings you to another universe where you are ambushed and taken into custody by none other than the Avengers. Will the three of you make it back home?
Message- Here’s part 3, sorry it took so long to write it! This part has the Avengers. Sorry if it sucks!
Background  Part 1  Part 2
Word Count- 1405
The three of you end up being trapped in this alternate dimension for 3 months. It’s weird getting to know a man that has been dead your whole life, the man that drove your Dad to become the man he was. You can tell that Damian and Bart feel similarly about their grandparents.
“We figured it out, we can leave today.” Bart says. You and Damian just nod your heads silently. You get up and go to find your Grandfather.
“Bart and Nora figured a way to get us home.” You whisper.
“Yeah, Nora told me. I-I’ll miss you.” Your grandfather says. “I-I wrote a letter, I was wondering if you could give it to Ollie.”
“Of course. I’ll miss you too.” You say as you pull him into a hug. Then you take the letter and the two of you walk to the lab.
“This should open a portal to your world, it should open somewhere near the club was.” Nora says.
“Thank you, all of you.” You murmur. You all say your final goodbyes, before the three of you step into the portal. Then you’re falling, it feels like forever and then you land, hard. But not hard enough to cause any damage.
“Oww.” Bart whines.
“I agree.” Damian says. The three of you get up slowly and you all stretch. You pick your bow up off of the ground. The three of you are looking around.
“We’ll this definitely isn’t anywhere near the-“ You start.
“Weapons down, hands up.” You hear from behind you.
“Bart.” You hiss and he nods slightly. So you drop your bow, all three of you turn around slowly and you see 7 people, all dressed in different super suits and they all have weapons pointed at you. “Now.”
Then Bart zooms away, but first he puts your bow back into your hand, you load it with an arrow and shoot at the purple man flying in the sky. It should have hit him in the chest, but it goes right through him.
“Martian?” You murmur.
“Perhaps, Beloved.” Damian murmurs as he uses several batarangs to try to hinder their attacks. Then an arrow zooms between the two of you. You pull an arrow out of your quiver and shoot at the archer. You’re equally matched, your arrows continue to hit his. You look around and noticed both Bart and Damian are being overpowered as well. You become more desperate and start to shoot arrows at not only the archer.
“Canary.” Damian yells, so you look over at him. You see that he’s putting earplugs in. “Cry!” You nod your head and you wait for Bart to notice what was about to happen, you see him scoop up Damian and run behind you. Then you scream, as load as you can, the ones who are attacking you start to fall to their knees, but the purple one is only slightly hindered by your sonic attack. So you try to scream loader, but eventually your lungs are screaming for air. Your vision starts to go fuzzy from lack of oxygen, eventually the world goes black.
***
(Avengers pov)
“They’re kids.” Tony murmurs as he looks into the cells where the three trespassers.
“I was a kid. When I was recruited.” Nat whispers.
“Still, maybe we can help them. Deprogram them, show them the light and what not.” Tony says.
“I want to talk to her, when she wakes up.” Clint murmurs.
“What, do archers stick together?” Sam jokes.
“You saw how good she is, that kind of skill takes decades of training, and she’s what 18?”  Clint says.
“Fine, we’ll talk to her first. Then the boys.” Steve says. The two boys wake up first, but eventually you wake up.
“Let’s go.” Steve says to Clint. The two men walk towards the cells. They move to unlock yours but the two boys are making a big stink.
“If you so much as touch her, I will rip you to shreds. I am the heir to the demon! You will listen to me!” The one with black hair screams. The one that is fast is banging his fists against the wall.
(Back to Readers POV)
“Robin, Impulse, stop. I can take care of myself.  It’s going to be okay.” You murmur.
“I will kill them, if they hurt you, beloved.” Damian screams.
“It’s okay.” You murmur as you let one of the men lead you down the hall. They lead you into an interrogation room and push you into a seat.
“What’s your name kid?” The archer asks. You stay silent, just staring at him.
“How old are you?” The one that had been dressed like the American flag asks. You continue to sit in silence. “Who sent you?” They both ask numerous question, but you continue to sit in silence.
“They’re going to come for us, you know.” You eventually murmur.
“Who?” The archer asks.
“The league? You guys made a real dumb decision when you decided to attack the three of us.” You growl.
“What’s the league?” The other man asks.
“Please, really, that’s what you’re going with? The Justice League? You know Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and Green Arrow? They’re going to get us and then you are all going to rot in prison. What kind of villain dresses in red, white and blue anyway?”
“We’re not villains, we’re the Avengers. The earth’s mightiest heroes? My name is Steve and this is Clint.” Steve says.
“We’ve never heard of the Justice league. You trespassed on our compound. We’re did you learn to shoot like that kid?” Clint ask.
“My Dad.” You murmur. “Y-You’re sure that you’re not bad guys?”
“Pretty sure, kid.” Steve murmurs.
“Fuck!” You shout as you slam your cuffed hands against the table. “It didn’t work.”
“Hey calm down, kid. What didn’t work?” Clint asks.
“W-We’re heroes, sidekicks actually. Our parents are heroes.” Then you explain everything that had happened in the last several months.
“Look, kid, we want to believe you, but that’s a pretty crazy story.” Steve says.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t believe it either. Do you have a lord of order on this world?” You ask.
“Lord of order?” Clint asks.
“A sorcerer?” You ask.
“Strange.” Clint says before walking out of the room. He comes back in with a man who is wearing a red cape. “This is Doctor Strange.”
“Hello.” You murmur. “Look into my head, they need know that I’m telling the truth. But, be warned if you look at anything I don’t want you to, I know a few tricks.”  Strange nods and puts his hands one your forehead. You show him everything that has happened, how Klarion had sent you to a different dimension and how you ended up hear in an attempt to get home.
“She is telling the truth.” Strange says. “I will try to find you home dimension.” He says before leaving the room.
“Uncuff, me please.” You say. Steve uses a key and lets you go.  “Thank you.”
“Let’s go let your friends out.” Clint says and you nod. You were a couple steps behind Clint.
“Where is Canary? If you have hurt her, I will kill you. Throw you in the pit and then kill you again!” Damian growls.
“Dam, relax. They’re the good guys. This just isn’t our dimension.” You say as you waltz into the room. “Get them out please.”  Then Clint lets Damian out of his cell, he runs to you and looks you over before he pulled you into a passionate kiss.
“Ugh, again, really.” Bart murmurs. “Are you going to do that every time we get out of a situation like this?”
“Yes.” Damian growls before pulling you into another kiss.
“Ah new love. I guess gross in every dimension.” Tony says as he walks into the room.
“That isn’t new love. They’ve been together since they were like seven.” Bart snorts. “That’s just how they are.”
“Please, the second we get home you’re going to be just as bad with Jamie.” You say.
“I plead the 5th.” Bart murmurs as he rolls his eyes.
“Why didn’t the portal work?” Damian asks.
“I don’t know. It could have been a thousand different things.” Bart murmurs.
“Well, we’re going to help you get home.” Steve says.
“Thank you.” You murmur as Damian wraps an arm around your shoulder.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~°~❦~°~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I hope you know the embarrassment and shame you have brought upon Downton this day. A maid in the dining room, ruining dinner! Respect for this household is surely lost to the Hardcastles.”
     All of the servants were assembled downstairs. The mood was somber, that was for sure. You looked down at the floor.
     “I feel awful Mr. Carson,” you spoke up.
     “As you should,” Mr. Carson said. “This incident is not likely to be forgotten anytime soon. I don’t know what you were doing upstairs in the first place, but you will face severe consequences.
     “Yes, Mr. Carson.”
     Thomas looked at you and back at Mr. Carson. “I suppose you’ve never made a mistake then, Mr. Carson?”
     “Not if I can help it, Mr. Barrow.” He turned his severe look to Thomas.
     “S’pose you would know a lot about mistakes,” O’Brien muttered to Thomas.
     “Well I am human Miss O’Brien. And so’s (Y/n). We all are. And it’d do you some good not to forget it.” Thomas looked around the room.
     “That’s enough, Mr. Barrow. (Y/n) needs to understand the gravity of this situation. We have a standard to uphold. And a maid carrying food upstairs into the dining room and making a fool of herself! You are very lucky His Lordship was so understanding.”
     “Since when is trying to help a crime?” Thomas challenged.
     “Mr. Barrow—”
     “No it’s alright, I believe I should be getting my things anyways,” You said.
     Mrs. Hughes stopped you. “Now wait just a minute, nobody go anywhere just yet.”
     Mr. Carson started, “(Y/n), I ought to send you on your way—”
     Mrs. Hughes interrupted him with a look, “Mr. Carson—”
     “But being that it is (Y/n)’s first couple of week here I think we can make some excuses.” It looked like it pained him to say it.
     “If she burns the place down will you let her off with a slap on the wrist!” O’Brien said incredulously.
      “It was an accident,” Anna said.
     “Yes, an unfortunate accident which I will impress upon you will never happen again.” Mr. Hughes fixed you with a stern look.
     “Yes Mrs. Hughes,” you obliged, looking down.
    “Now leave the poor girl be, everyone” Mrs Hughes said, “before she has a spell and that’ll do no good to any of us.”
     “Oh I don’t know, she might be more useful that way,” O’Brien muttered, audibly.
      “I’d advise you to hold your tongue, Miss O’Brien,” Mrs. Hughes fixed a stern look on her.
     The ladies maid set Mrs. Hughes with a look equal to the latter’s. “I don’t know what you mean.”
     “Well you wouldn’t, O’Brien, no one’s laboring under the impression that you understand what it’s like being useful.” Thomas stepped towards you unconsciously.
     Mr. Carson stepped in. “That’s quite enough Mr. Barrow.”
     “Yes, that will be all,” Mrs. Hughes, “Get back to your tasks, all of you. That’s quite enough excitement for one night.
     You nodded, walking towards the door but as Thomas went to pass you, you stopped him.
     “Mr Barrow—thank you, for sticking up for me.”
     “Mr. Carson made a nightmare of all our first weeks. It’s the least I could do,” he told you.
     “I’m sure you all didn’t ruin the most important evening of the year with excessive clumsiness.” You rubbed the back of your neck.
     “You’d be surprised.” He smiled at you. “You’ll not get the sack, not if I can help it.”
     You thought of the other servants saying that Thomas was selfish and distant. You couldn’t help but feel they were wrong, but you didn’t know why it was only you that thought so.
     You smiled back, “Daisy already thinks you’ve taken a liking to me. Careful or the other’s’ll think you’ve got a heart.”
     “Well we can’t have that,” he said with a wink and then was off in the other direction.
     You turned back towards the kitchen where Daisy and Anna and a number of other maids and kitchen servants were watching you.
     “Are you feeling better?” Anna asked you.
     “I am thank you, still a bit shaken but I’ll get over it,” you said, grateful for her concern. “I’m lucky I’m still here.”
     “Well, we’re all glad you are,” Anna said.
     “She wasn’t likely to be thrown out, not with Thomas as her knight in shining armor,” Daisy added, as she finished scrubbing a pan.
     “There’s a first,” Mrs. Patmore laughed as she walked by carrying an empty tray.
     “He’s nicer than you lot give him credit for,” you defended.
     A couple of the maids giggled.
     “Oh, cut her some slack. She fancies him,” Daisy teased.
     You found yourself blushing, “Wherever did you get an idea like that?”
     “Only that you’re in love with him,” Daisy grinned. “You can’t deny it, I’ve seen the way you look at him.”
     You fumbled for words, and Daisy must have seen the panicked look on your face because she said, “Oh I’m not serious, I’m only poking fun,” Daisy said, “I used to be infatuated with him too before I was brought to me senses.”
     “Whatever do you mean? You don’t think I have my fair shot?” You teased back.
     “Well, it’s not you that’s the problem is it?” Mrs. Patmore said as she rolled out bread dough, presumably for breakfast the next morning. “You have as fair a go as the rest of us ladies.” She laughed.
     You weren’t sure what she meant by it, but you felt defensive. “Suppose I do, then so what if I fancy—Thomas!”
     His sudden appearance made you jump. “I was just sent to tell Anna that Mrs. Hughes needs to see her,” he said.
     Anna looked back at you sympathetically and then hurried out of the room. You looked to Thomas. He was watching you with a curious expression on his face. You didn’t know how much of the previous conversation he’d heard. You thought about denying everything. But that would be untruthful, you realized. Because maybe you did fancy Thomas.
     “Don’t suppose you’ve gone momentarily deaf?” You asked him, trying to break the silence that had settled over the kitchen.
     Daisy looked caught between nervous and giddy.
     “No don’t suppose I have,” he said, turning around and walking out of the kitchen.
     He chased after him, “Thomas, wait.” He turned down the hall to the male servants rooms, which you definitely weren’t supposed to be in but you weren’t paying attention.
     When you finally caught up with his brisk pace he was turned around facing the back wall of what must have been his room.
     “Thomas I’m sorry if I’ve startled you-”
     But he didn’t turn around and you finally gave up, leaving him there, wondering what you did wrong.
*****
     You didn’t speak to Thomas for the remainder of the week. Not for lack of trying, but he seemed determined to avoid you. He turned the other way if you came down the hall and if you tried to speak to him he suddenly remembered something that needed done in the other room.
     The other staff seemed to notice, especially when he’d been so friendly to you before.
    As you sat at a chair, mending one of Her Ladyship’s evening gowns, you thought about all of this. Hearing footsteps behind you, you turned to find none other than Thomas standing in the doorway. He ignored you entirely and continued with his business.
     You tried to be kind, “Crazy weather we’ve been having, isn’t it?”
     “No different than any other year, I suppose,” he said indifferently.
     “No, I suppose not.”
     You paused. Oh, what the heck, out with it!
     “Have I offended you?” You asked. “Did I do something to warrant the cold shoulder?”
     Thomas looked pained coming up with a response.
     Finally—
     “I can’t give you what you want,” Thomas said softly, looking down.
     “What?”
     “I can’t be a proper gentleman to you,” he set down his work.
     “And I don’t expect you to, neither. I was only being silly. I know it’s beneath you and I wasn’t asking—”
     He interrupted you and said slowly, “Not you, not any other woman.”
     Understanding dawned on you. His talk about abandoned dreams and romance. His behavior after you’d admitted to fancying him.
     He watched you, waiting for a response.
     “Well, don’t I feel stupid,” you said.
     “Not to worry, (Y/n). I couldn’t ask anyone to resist my charms. I’m sure it’s not your fault.” Thomas attempted a joke.
     You laughed, grinning. “I am certain your charms are already employed on someone else, no doubt.
     “I might have someone in mind,” he said vaguely.
     “Well, whoever the lucky bastard is,” you said, “he better bloody well deserve you.”
     “Language (Y/n), I thought you were a lady.”
     “Am I?”
     “Oh nonsense,” Thomas said, “you are a lady and you’ll made some bloke more than happy someday.”
     He paused. “You’ve been kind to me. And I don’t deserve it.”
     “Don’t be silly, you’ve helped me more than anyone else here.
     “You’re in the minority then. Everyone here would agree that I’m a bad seed,” he said.
     “Well not me.”
      “You’re biased, you fancy me remember?” He smirked.
      “Oh leave off!” You swatted at his arm.
     His expression fell and he became serious, “I understand if you no longer wish to associate with me, if romance was what you wanted.”
    “I don’t give a rats tail about romance! There are more important things you know.”
     He smiled and looked down, silence descending on the room again.
       You furrowed your brow. “I have to ask, if everyone says you’re so awful, why are you kind to me?”
      He took a minute to reply. “You remind me of myself when I started in service. I had dreams. I had hopes. You remind me to dream. Make me feel like maybe I could. And it trust you. Being me is a lonely business. I’ll deny it to my grave but it is.”
     You didn’t know what to say to such a declaration.
     “I think you’re a lot more than you or anyone else gives you credit for,” you said.
     “I’m grateful for you,” he said, “I haven’t had many acquaintances in my life.”
     “Then we stay acquaintances, I hope.” You smiled at him.
     “I should like to think of us as more than that,” Thomas said, with a glint in his eye. “We’re friends, you and I.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~°~❦~°~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Downton Abbey. You took in the grand estate as you walked up towards the house, clutching your coat tighter around yourself.
     Saying you needed this job would be an understatement. What with your father’s death and your mother’s not being able to uphold the farm, you needed every penny you could get. Sure, being a maid wasn’t your ideal job, but it would do. There were less respectable positions than a housemaid in a estate such as Lord and Lady Grantham’s.
     You stuck your chin up. You were lucky to have gotten this job. And you would make a good maid—you would have to. It wasn’t where you imagined yourself when you were a little girl and dreamed of being the next Mary Shelley. But what were dreams to reality. You shook these thoughts off as you approached the house.
     As you headed towards where you guessed the the servants entrance was, you thought about the decisions that had got you here. You hoped you’d made the right ones. You stopped for a moment, leaning up against the wall, hoping no one could see you. This had to go well. You took a minute to collect yourself. A door opened a little ways down and someone stepped out. You saw his figure walking towards you.
     “Can I help you?” The man who now stood before you asked, with a slight air of suspicion. He had dark hair and dark eyes and you couldn’t help but notice how good-looking he was. God does have his favorites, you thought.
     “I’m (Y/n) (Y/l/n), the new housemaid.” You told him, standing up straighter.
     “I didn’t know we needed another housemaid,” the man said.
     “Well I’m not here to mend cars,” you told him.
     “Ah, of course not,” he smiled, “I see you prefer to spend your time lurking in the shadows.”
     “I was merely looking for the servants entrance,” you countered.
     He looked you up and down, “Right. This way,” he led you farther down, towards the door he had previously exited.
     “Well, now I’ve introduced myself, who might you be? I don’t suppose you’re the butler.”
     “In time,” he said mysteriously. “But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I’m Thomas Barrow, his Lordship’s valet. It’s a right here.”
     You turned right and were led into the servants quarters, a lively place, bustling with cooks and maids and footmen as they went about their work. As Thomas led you to the back of the room and into a hall you marveled at how many servants worked here. Sure, the house was large but you couldn’t imagine one family needing that much help.
     “Here we are,” Thomas stopped in front of a room with the door propped open and you were met with a stern looking woman and an even more stern looking man.
     “Ah, (Y/n), I see you’ve made it,” the woman greeted you, smiling, “I hope your trip wasn’t too rough.”
     “No ma’am,” you answered.
     “We’re glad to have you (Y/n),” the man said, “Mrs. Hughes and I have been quite busy lately with such a limited staff. Thank you, Thomas, for showing her the way.”
     Thomas nodded and as you looked around you, the door pushed open a tad and you saw that a maid with blonde hair had entered the room.
     “I hope I’m not interrupting anything,” she said.
     “We were just welcoming the new maid. (Y/n), this is Anna, the head housemaid. She’ll show you to your rooms.” Mr. Carson said. “You have a few minutes to get settled and then you’ll need to change. Mrs. Hughes can tell you when to get the girls rooms ready and when to turn the guest rooms. Daisy will wake you at 6:00 every morning.”
     The woman who must have been Anna led you down a hall.
     “I don’t know how I’ll ever remember it all,” you said.
     “You’ll pick it up in no time,” Anna smiled encouragingly. She showed you to the room you were to be sharing with another one of the maids and you set your bag down that held your few possessions.
     Upon walking back to the servants dining room you found most of the people sitting around the table having a rest or mending something, their eyes on you once you walked in.
      “So, has it always been your dream to be in service or did fate require it?” One woman said, not entirely kindly, you thought.
     “If you’re asking if I mean to be a housemaid my whole life then no, I can’t say that I do.” You answered honestly, maybe too honestly, you realized as the word tumbled out of your mouth. “I have my ambitions, just like the rest of us.”
     “You’ll do good to forget about them,” she drawled.
     “O’Brien doesn’t mean it,” Anna smiled at you, “I think it’s lovely that you’ve got dreams.”
     “You don’t mean to be here long then?” A kitchen girl asked you.
     “Oh I don’t mean that,” you said, “it’s a good position and I’m lucky to be here.”
     Suddenly, a cook with fiery red hair stormed into the room, glaring daggers at the girl who had just spoke.
     “Daisy I said you could have a break not a day off!”
     “Coming Mrs. Patmore,” Daisy scrambled off, glancing back at you with a worried look.
     Thomas walked in just then, Daisy almost running into him, holding a cigarette, “Got a lot of ambitions, do you (Y/n)?”
     “I might,” you answered, looking at Thomas mysteriously.
     “Well you mustn’t let Mr. Carson hear you talking about ‘em,” he lifted his cigarette to his mouth, “we’re not supposed to have thoughts and opinions down here.”
     “You have no trouble sharing yours,” O’Brien raised an eyebrow.
     “You’re one to talk,” he countered.
     You looked between them, and then turned to Anna, whispering, “They don’t get on, do they?”
     Anna turned to you. “They’re friends really,” she continued in a low voice, taking on a joking tone, “united in their treachery.”
     You didn’t think Thomas had seemed particularly treacherous. Cold maybe. Haughty sure. But not treacherous. However, first impressions were often wrong.
     Mr. Carson entered the room again. Everyone stood up, awaiting instruction.
     “I’ve rung the dressing gong,” he said, “You must all begin to get ready for dinner. Everyone is ready to be dressed so you should head up at once. Thomas, His Lordship’s new shoes are in the boot room and they need brushing.”
     “Yes Mr. Carson.”
     Mrs. Hughes addressed you. “And (Y/n), if you could help Anna out by fetching Edith’s frock. It was being mended and I haven’t had a chance to send it up.”
     “Yes Mrs. Hughes.” You went off with everyone else in a rush, heading in the same direction as Thomas.
     “Settling in yet?” Thomas asked you as you walked.
     “As much as I can,” you answered. “I hope so, at least.”
     He was silent a moment before saying, “Always rise when any of the family comes down here. Never appear in the dining room when dinner service is in progress. Prepare to serve long and tiring hours and don’t expect to be acknowledged for it neither. Remember that and you should be alright.”
     You looked at him. “Thank you, you’ve been ever so welcoming. I’ve no doubt you know this house like the back of your hand. If I was Mr. Carson I’d worry I’d be out of a job.”
     Thomas was silent.
     You accepted the silence for a few moments and then sought to break it. “So you seemed keen to talk about ambitions, what are your dreams, Mr. Barrow?”
     “Who says I’ve got dreams?”
     “Everyone has dreams,” you told him.
     “Not me,” he said cryptically. “People like me don’t have dreams.”
     “I don’t believe that. I think everyone’s got a right to hope just as anyone else.”
     “The world doesn’t share your views, my luck,” he said.
     As you pondered over what this meant, you followed Thomas into the boot room. He picked up a pair of shoes and grabbed a brush.
     “I’d like to become a novelist,” you said. “I like to write—that’s my dream.”
     He didn’t say anything
    You gathered a parcel that must have been Lady Edith’s dress and began to leave the room.  “That was a very interesting conversation, Mr. Barrow, thank you.”
     You turned back around before exiting. “I’d like to think we’ll become friends, you and I,” you told him.
     “Oh, (Y/n),” Thomas turned to you, stopping mid-brush, “I don’t have friends here. Everyone knows that.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~°~❦~°~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hours passed.  Meals were served. Days went by. And before you knew it you’d already been working at Downton for nearly two weeks. You’d adjusted well, you thought, and everything had passed very smoothly with help from Anna and Mrs. Hughes…and Thomas Barrow.
     Surprisingly, he’d been a huge help to you. He knew the house inside and out and it payed off. Despite his saying you weren’t friends, he always found a way to guide you in the right direction or give you useful information. You supposed he was trying to prepare for running this house someday.
     He could pretend he had no desires, but you knew he wanted to be butler.
     He still remained mostly a mystery to you, however. A you sat across the table from him now and sipped your tea, you couldn’t help but feel like no one really knew the real Thomas. And you’d not even been here a fortnight.
     Daisy came to the table to serve everyone their dinner and you were brought out of your thoughts.
     “(Y/n)? You look as if you’re still never awoken since breakfast!” Anna smiled at you.
     “Lost in thought, that’s all,” you said.
     “How’s your mother holding up?” Anna asked you from across the table.
     “She’s getting by, I believe,” you answered. You’d written to her once to tell her about your getting settled and in the letter you’d inquired about the farm. She’d sounded optimistic but you could sense the worry in her words and it just made you even more determined to make things work for her.
     “I envy her,” O’Brien said, “at least she’s not slaving away her days for nothing in return.”
     “O’Brien,” Anna warned.
      “If you expect sympathy, you’re not going to get it from me,” she said, “that’s all. If you expect me to pity a woman who’s—”
     “You must forgive O’Brien,” Thomas looked at you, “She doesn’t know what it’s like to have a mother, being the spawn of Satan and all.”
     Thomas raised an eyebrow at you and then got up, putting out his cigarette on the table and leaving the room.
     O’Brien got out of her seat as well, and, walking in the opposite direction as Thomas, went presumably to feel indignant outside, you figured.
     “I don’t know how you do it,” Daisy said from beside you. “Thomas’s never stuck up for any one of us like that.”
     “He’s not unpleasant,” you said, blushing despite yourself.
     “Maybe not to you,” Anna and Daisy shared a look.
     “Well, I think he’s rather welcoming.”
     “Careful, or he’ll make you his friend,” Anna joked, her voice filled with mirth.
     “You won’t have to worry about that,” you said, thinking back, “he’s told me he doesn’t have friends.”
     It seemed as if your dinner had barely been finished with before everyone was preparing for the family’s supper.
     Everything was especially hectic today due to the guests attending. Mr. Carson had giving his speech earlier on about it and everyone was in a hurry.
     “Lord and Lady Hardcastle are visiting from London this week and it is of utmost importance that you are all on your best behavior as we must leave a good impression,” he’d said.
     “I don’t see why we have to work ourselves into a state because someone’s grandparents decide to take a trip to the country,” had been Thomas’s reply.
     You knew he was just grumbling because he had to act as first footman while you were short staffed—which “was insulting to a respected valet like himself”—but secretly you agreed with him. You wanted to make a good impression and you hoped everything went according to plan but you couldn’t help but internally wish it all would be over as you took part in all of it.
     Once the main course was sent up, everything calmed down a bit. You sat down for a minute to rest your weary feet.
     After what seemed like seconds, desert had been sent up and as you went to stand you noticed a bowl of some sauce or another that you were sure shouldn’t have been left downstairs.
     “Daisy? Is this supposed to go up?” You asked her.
     She stopped her cleaning and looked up at you. Her eye catching in the dish, she made a face of pure horror. “Oh, Lord, yes it is! Oh I’m done for! I was supposed to tell William it was to go on the raspberry pudding!”
     “Not to worry,” you told her, “I’ll take it up.”
     “Have you lost your mind? What if someone sees you?”
     “They won’t. I’ll hand it off to one of the footmen or Thomas on the stairs.”
      It being settled with some trepidation on Daisy’s part, you rushed up the servants stairs and caught Thomas coming back down.
     “Oh thank goodness, here this goes up now, it’s for the pudding.” You handed him the bowl of sauce in your hands and he took it into the dining room. Thomas headed back downstairs but you didn’t move.
     Now that you were there, you couldn’t help but peek around the corner. It was magnificent! The shimmering chandeliers and exquisite artistry—you’d never been in such a beautiful house. You took another step forwards until you were perched on the top step.
     You noticed William coming up behind you too late. You spun around, hearing footsteps and slammed into him, knocking the dish he was carrying out of his hands and flying into the dining room along with you. You stumbled backwards, your foot accidentally catching on the table leg holding the platters and dishes which Mr. Carson stood next to on the other end. You scrambled to get up, very aware you were not supposed to be seen in the dining room, but in your haste you tripped over the now broken china on the ground and fell forwards, grabbing at the table and brought down more than a few serving dishes with you.
     Silence. You wished you could sink into the floor and disappear forever. The Crawley family and their guests sat in shock. Mr. Carson hurried over.
     You started, “I—I’m sorry—”
     Mr. Carson interrupted you, breathless. “I am so sorry, My Lord. We will deal with this immediately.”
     “Don’t bother Carson, we were just heading over,” he stood up and the rest of the party followed suit, heading towards the drawing room.
     “Once again, I apologize for the behavior of the staff, it will not happen again.” The Butler reiterated.
     “Don’t lose sleep over it Carson, i know it wasn’t your fault—and if we’re being completely transparent, an interruption was rather welcome to shorten this dull evening,” he smiled, but in more seriousness said, “I do hope, however, that tomorrow’s dinner won’t be so eventful.”
     “Of course not, M’Lord.”
     Lord Grantham left with the rest of his family and soon the dining room was empty except for you, William, who was trying in vain to clean up the mess, and Mr. Carson.
     “William, fetch the other footmen. (Y/n), we will talk later.” Mr. Carson rushed in the other direction and you tried to brush yourself off, utterly miserable.
     “Well, everyone who’s called me a clumsy fool would love to see this,” William said nervously.
     “Indeed we would,” Thomas appeared at the top of the stairs
     “Nonsense,” you protested, “I’m the one to blame. I shouldn’t have even been upstairs.”
     Thomas’s eyes widened at the sight of the dining room, “No, you shouldn’t have, now go and get yourself cleaned up. I’ll take care of this.”
     William went downstairs to acquire help and you hesitated.
     “I—” You meant to thank him and insist you must help but the words caught in your throat. All of the stress of the past week and the mortification of this evening piled on top of each other and all that came out of your mouth was a sob. You sunk down against the wall, cradling your arms against your chest.
     A look of concern passed over Thomas’s face and he stepped towards you, kneeling down.
     “Come now, it’s all right. No one’s died,” he placed his gloved hand on your shoulder gently.
     You put your face in your hands, the tears coming harder.
     Thomas seemed at a loss. After a few “there there”s in vain, he stayed silent for a moment.
     You knew you should get out of the dining room and go downstairs—to pack your things, if nothing else. There was no way you’d be able to keep your job after this, you thought miserably. You wrapped your arms around your knees. You tried to make yourself get up. You were being a foolish schoolgirl, you told yourself, no use shedding tears over the inevitable.
     “My dream is to find someone that loves me,” Thomas said, interrupting the silence, “—you asked me before. I want to care for someone and be cared for in return. Everyone thinks I’ve got it out for Mr. Carson’s job, and I might, but I wouldn’t be opposed to settling down neither.”
     You lifted your head, staring up at Thomas. You couldn’t believe he’d just told you that. Seeing you lift your head, he began to stand up again.
     “Now, that’s enough of that,” he offered you his hand and you stood up too, dusting yourself off and wiping tears from your face. “Now go down and have a rest while I handle this.”
     “I can’t let you do all of this yourself—” You protested.
      “I said let me deal with it, alright? You’re in no state to be handling china anyway,” he smiled at you and you found yourself smiling back as you headed towards the stairs.
      “Thomas?”
      He turned to you.
      “Thank you,” you said, “for everything.”
      “Don’t mention it, (Y/n).”

imagine being thomas barrow’s female friend at downton
a/n: thomas is actually my favorite character ever and I’ve loved him since day one. he deserves so much better and should be protected at all costs and I just want to give him the love he deserves 🥺 and im not crying you’re crying 😭 i hope someone enjoys this <3🍒🎀
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~°~❦~°~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
being thomas’s bestie would include …
so you and thomas became friends when you were a new maid at downton
he immediately took a liking to you
and took you under his wing
he told you all of the secrets at downton and filled you in on everything
everyone questions why you guys are so close
but you love him so much despite his icy exterior
cause you soon found out it was just a front
he trusts you with everything like he does with no one else
when he first told you about his sexuality he was actually so nervous it would affect your friendship
but you assured him you loved him so much and nothing could ever change that
you guys go out to the town together and just relax and have a good time
he asks you for advice on everything
like when jimmy started working there
and he snuck into the maids quarters after everyone went to bed and to ask for your help getting jimmy to like him
he’s really protective of you
like he would take many punches for you
you’re his safe place and he feels like he can tell you anything
you’ve both had you’re lows and gotten each other through them
you always defend him when the other staff are teasing him
when he went to war you worried every day
he always sent you letters when he could
you’re his shoulder to cry on
he calls you “love” in the most platonic way
you’ve helped him by pretend to be dating him when he needed you to
you guys always share looks across the table downstairs
all the inside jokes
when he was thinking of ending it you were able to talk him out of it
you are the influence he needed and he became a different person because of you like you actually changed his life because i say so
and he knows it <3
ˋ°•*⁀➷ i hope you enjoyed!! thomas is my baby and i will not take any criticism on him feel free to criticize my work tho that’s fair game 💋💌
looking for a specific fandom? i present, my specific masterlists…
╰┈➤ {smosh • friends • thomas barrow • ray manchester }
➳ requests are closed
➳ some facts about me! my name is hayley and i’m just a silly little fangirl who loves reading, writing, drinking tea, feeling nostalgic, and obsessing over + living vicariously through fictional characters
➳ my goal on this blog is to write for everyone i can especially less popular characters because i know the feeling of looking up a fic and finding it doesn’t exist and i feel like i owe it to my twelve y/o (and current!!) obsessive self to fill the void
➳ find the list of fandoms i write for at the bottom of this post. i don’t write smut. all of my fics are x fem!reader unless specified otherwise
➳ feel free to ask anything and i hope you have a lovely day/night 🍓🩰
