Kel Dor thought of the day: eldritch Kel Dors AU
What if Kel Dors were genuinely eldritch beings: a full package of "gaze upon me and your mind will break", many claws and writhing tentacles, and semi-existence on another plane of reality.
Most are quite content to exist on their home world but the consciousness which has named itself Plo Koon really wants to be a Jedi. The multitude of creatures that populate the galaxy are surely brilliant and wonderful, and he wants to meet them in person.
So Plo does just that.
Once he can shift into a relatively palatable, human-esque appearance and sort-of anchor himself onto the realms of reality instead of slip-sliding around in the seams of the Force, he joins the Order. Yeah, he's the creepiest kid in the creche, but Tyvokka is a great master and a staunch realist, and who's to say that a baby eldritch can't make a great padawan? And later, a council member?
It's hard to maintain four limbs and such a compact body and even harder to fight in it, but he gets used to it. The grotesque face keeps people from squinting too hard at him and his telepathic projections convince people of the rest.
The Wolfpack is suspicious, though. They have great observation and sharp minds—a combination that makes it hard to play mind tricks on them. Wolffe, being the one closest to Plo, sees him slip up more than most. When battles wear on him, and the blurring at the edges of his form is a little too much for his loose robes try to hide, and the presence that fills the room is a little more than just a Jedi's connection to the Force, Plo is grateful when Wolffe ignores it and just... stays.
When impossible things happen on the battlefield, clones swearing that there are things striking down enemies between blinks and dragging them into the shadows, Plo braces himself for fear and panic but his men swear that it doesn't feel like it's there to harm them. No, in fact, it feels protective.
Then the Malevolence happens. Plo loses it for a moment in that escape pod, his very being clutching at the three precious sparks trapped there with him, and all the clones startle at the feeling of too many tentacles wrapping tight around them, the stars almost blotting out.
Plo is aghast and even more tightly controlled after that.
But it's not long before Wolffe, Boost and Sinker find him where he's hidden himself away in the corner of the ship and they just... hug him. And if he hugs back with a few too many limbs and shadows and tells them to close their eyes...
Well Plo would cry if he could, feeling them hug back tighter.

Few random HCs I don’t have the energy to make into fics
Gil-Galad and Oropher always had a very, very fraught relationship.
Sometimes they’re totally civil and seem like they might even be friends. They can negotiate, compromise and even laugh together. Other times, all they do is argue and yell. Wine glasses get thrown, doors get slammed, one time they broke a table.
This table was Gil-Galad’s. Once they had made up, Oropher had a new table made for him.
Through all of this, Thranduil and Elrond (and at the beginning Elros too) would be talking in the great hall with a little music and a little wine. They don’t always agree either, but they can usually keep it civil provided they don’t talk about the Feanorians (Thranduil thinks of them basically the way he thinks of Orcs, Elrond and Elros see them as deeply flawed people who made mistakes and are fighting for a memory)
Thranduil still wishes one of the Peredhel had taken up the Sindar throne, but he does come to understand why neither of them chose a side between Noldor and Sindar. Elros’s choice of mortality was a little harder to come to terms with–at the time, he had a hard time understanding why anyone would want to die. After Oropher dies however, he understands.
Part of Thranduil also wishes Elwing hadn’t married a Noldo, so Elrond wouldn’t have had to choose. Thranduil can’t resent Elwing for anything, though.
Elrond doesn’t resent Elwing. When he was younger, he did wonder why she left them, but when he got older and spent more time with people who knew her he realized that, in her own fucked up way, she was trying to save them. However, none of that means that it doesn’t hurt. There’s always going to be a mom-shaped hole in Elrond’s heart, and no amount of understanding will change that.

penny for your thoughts (for mun)
Hmmmm…you know what? I was thinking about this earlier and just there are so many people I miss seeing on my dash.
Coming back to the fandom and seeing how small it is compared to before was upsetting. Don’t get me wrong I love my rp partners but I’ve been rping almost ten years in the fandom and we’ve lost so many amazing people.
We had shit like the cathedral verse which was a huge group of people who all rped in the same verse on the dash. It was wild. Most people compartmentalize everything now.
I used to run tod every week and we had some crazy shot happen too.
I miss bob the anon and silly. They were people dedicated to being entertaining anons. The plots were insane. Let’s all storm the afterlife because Bakura killed Atem. Let’s all start a war because Yugi has been kidnapped.
I’d revive all of this if I could but the one suctacular thing about being in Japan is I miss all the main things because I’m sleeping. Maybe someday I’ll give tod another go…hmmm..

OOC:
Aside from Dib, children, Shadowbug owners, some veternarians, and the owner of the local diner, no other humans in Zimmy's home universe seem to like him (in fact, a decent handful of people hate him). Most people are either intimidated by him or find him extremely annoying/unlikeable. It gets to the point where parents pull their kids away from him even if he's clearly being friendly. Thankfully, he has Dib even if the rest of the Membranes aren't warm towards him (this Dib actually walked out on his father after a fight about Zimmy).
Other Shadowbugs seem overall neutral towards Zimmy, though he has made friends with some of them. They mostly just see him as another Shadowbug, with some of the parents being wary but not outright hostile towards him (they eventually get to know him and let him interact with their babies, though).
So yeah. Zimmy is surprisingly infamous in his home universe, but he does have a supportive group of people (and other Shadowbugs) that he sees as friends. The dislike he receives from those humans in his home universe is mostly from people who already hated Shadowbugs. Whether this applies to other universes depends on the characters within them.

not to be controversial bc I know this is like…not in line with shifting opinions on fanfic comment culture but if there’s a glaring typo in my work I will NOT be offended by pointing it out. if ao3 fucks up the formatting…I will also not be offended by having this pointed out…
‘looking forward to the next update’ and ‘I hope you update soon!’ are different vibes than a demand, and should be read in good faith because a reader is finding their way to tell you how much they love it. I will not be mad at this.
‘I don’t usually like this ship but this fic made me feel something’ is also incredibly high praise. I’m not going to get mad at this.
even ‘I love this fic but I’m curious about why you made [x] choice’ is just another way a reader is engaging in and putting thought into your work.
I just feel like a lot of authors take any comment that’s not perfectly articulated glowing praise in the exact manner they’re hoping to receive it in bad faith.
fic engagement has been dropping across the board over the last several years, and yes it’s frustrating but it isn’t as though I can’t see how it happens. comment anxiety can be a real thing. the last thing anyone wants to do is offend an author they love, and that means sometimes people default to silence.
idk where I’m going with this I guess aside from saying unless a comment is outright attacking me I’m never going to get mad at it, and I think a lot of authors should feel the same way. ESPECIALLY TYPOS PLZ GOD POINT OUT MY TYPOS.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how Kabru deprives himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kabru as a character is intertwined with the idea that sometimes we have to sacrifice the needs of the few for the good of the many. He ultimately subverts this first by sabotaging the Canaries and then by letting Laios go, but in practice he's already been living a life of self-sacrifice.
Saving people, and learning the secrets of the dungeons to seal them, are what's important. Not his own comforts. Not his own desires. He forces them down until he doesn't know they're there, until one of them has to come spilling out during the confession in chapter 76.
Specifically, I think it's very significant, in a story about food and all that it entails, that Kabru is rarely shown eating. He's the deuteragonist of Dungeon Meshi, the cooking manga, but while meals are the anchoring points of Laios's journey, given loving focus, for Kabru, they're ... not.
Tumblr media
I'm sure he eats during dungeon expeditions, in the routine way that adventurers must when they sit down to camp. But on the surface, you get the idea that Kabru spends most of his time doing his self-assigned dungeon-related tasks: meeting with people, studying them, putting together that evidence board, researching the dungeon, god knows what else. Feeding himself is secondary.
He's introduced during a meal, eating at a restaurant, just to set up the contrast between his party and Laios's. And it's the last normal meal we see him eating until the communal ending feast (if you consider Falin's dragon parts normal).
First, we get this:
Tumblr media
Kabru's response here is such a non-answer, it strongly implies to me that he wasn't thinking about it until Rin brought it up. That he might not even be feeling the hunger signals that he logically knew he should.
They sit down to eat, but Kabru is never drawn reaching for food or eating it like the rest of his party. He only drinks.
Tumblr media
It's possible this means nothing, that we can just assume he's putting food in his mouth off-panel, but again, this entire manga is about food. Cooking it, eating it, appreciating it, taking pleasure in it, grounding yourself in the necessary routine of it and affirming your right to live by consuming it. It's given such a huge focus.
We don't see him eat again until the harpy egg.
Tumblr media
What a significant question for the protagonist to ask his foil in this story about eating! Aren't you hungry? Aren't you, Kabru?
Tumblr media
He was revived only minutes ago after a violent encounter. And then he chokes down food that causes him further harm by triggering him, all because he's so determined to stay in Laios's good graces.
In his flashback, we see Milsiril trying to spoon-feed young Kabru cake that we know he doesn't like. He doesn't want to eat: he wants to be training.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then with Mithrun, we see him eating the least-monstery monster food he can get his hands on, for the sake of survival- walking mushroom, barometz, an egg. The barometz is his first chance to make something like an a real meal, and he actually seems excited about it because he wants to replicate a lamb dish his mother used to make him!
Tumblr media
...but he doesn't get to enjoy it like he wanted to.
Tumblr media
Then, when all the Canaries are eating field rations ... Kabru still isn't shown eating. He's only shown giving food to Mithrun.
Tumblr media
And of course the next time he eats is the bavarois, which for his sake is at least plant based ... but he still has to use a coping mechanism to get through it.
Tumblr media
I don't think Kabru does this all on purpose. I think Kui does this all on purpose. Kabru's Post Traumatic Stress Disorder should be understood as informing his character just as much as Laios's autism informs his. It's another way that Kabru and Laios act as foils: where Laios takes pleasure in meals and approaches food with the excitement of discovery, Kabru's experiences with eating are tainted by his trauma. Laios indulges; Kabru denies himself. Laios is shown enjoying food, Kabru is shown struggling with it.
And I can very easily imagine a reason why Kabru might have a subconscious aversion towards eating.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meals are the privilege of the living.

Toji has never once shown his vulnerability towards the scar he has on his lips. He never even talks about them. But you know he is somewhere insecure about it when he stops and stares in the mirror while shaving, green eyes scanning the scar. Or when he purposely rests the right side of his face in his hand so the palm hides it. He thought he was being subtle with it, but you noticed. You noticed how deep down he was scared to even talk about it, let alone wear it with pride. That scar was a nightmare and he hated how it was visible to him, to everyone in the most obvious place.
"Toji?" you cooed from behind, walking into the hall while he was watching TV.
"Yes, baby?"
"I bought a new gloss, and i want to test if it's transfer proof."
"Don't know what that is but c'mere, lovie. Sit on my lap while you do it." You smiled and plopped yourself on his laps. Before he could finally look at you, you pressed your tinted glossy lips at the end of his lips where the scar settled.
he tried opening his lips to catch yours but you didn't really kiss his lips. he was so confused why you were pecking one spot.
*one peck. two peck. three peck. smooches tightly*
"D'ya know? I love this." You ran your thumb over the skin. "It makes me realize how strong you are, Toji. Sooo strong. Please don't hide it. It makes you look more handsome." He couldn't form words. The sudden love bomb opened a can of bad memories. Yet, oddly, he was comforted by your words. For a man so big, he was still weak over you and your love. Because you determined his vulnerability. Which is why your relationship was perfect. He is not the kind of man to be vocal about his issues but you read him like an open book. You understand him before he even has to spell it out.
Toji rested his forehead against yours, inhaling and exhaling with his eyes closed. God. He feels so in love, it kills him. What would he do without you? Everyone picked his flesh till it was just his heart exposed in the dirt, still struggling to beat. But you found it. Not to pick anymore flesh(there was none left). But to rip open your ribs and keep that heart locked in you forever. Safe and sound.

actually it's kind of wild that aziraphale left for heaven to try and save humanity and the human audience of the show has just been like "0/10 terrible decision go back to your demon partner" about it
aziraphale: I shall bravely sacrifice everything that makes me happy because I have a duty to protect the world
the world: boo no

Do you guys ever think,
when Percy dies, Grover will die at the same time. But unlike the others, they'll never be reunited in Elysium because Grover's a satyr who never get into Elysium, they turn into a tree.
And, if Annabeth is outlives Percy, she won't just grieve the love of her life but one of her best friends as well, one of the first people who believed in her, outside of luke and thalia.
One more thing, When Percy dies at least Annabeth will know she gets to see him again in Elysium but she'll also have to live with the knowledge that she'll never see Grover again even in death.
And if you don't want to think abt this, then:
Then don't think about her throwing away the collection of tin cans she and Percy probably kept for Grover.
Don't think about her using something from a tin can and thinking "I'll save this for Grover" and then realizing she'll never get to give it to him.
Don't think about her never being able to eat blue food or enchiladas again.
Don't think about her and Juniper holding each other and crying.
Don't think about Juniper momentarily hating Annabeth for getting to see her husband after she dies before forgetting all about her anger because they both lost their loves, damn it!
Don't think about Annabeth "Always Six Foot Ahead" Chase knowing death is approaching and making a list of what she wants to be burnt with so that she can give them to everyone who she has ever cared about. Adding "Tin Cans and Enchiladas" in the list before breaking down again.
Don't think abt Percy reaching Elysium, being greeted by all of his friends, looking around for grover before registering why he wasn't there.
Don't think about him mourning his best friend, his brother even when in Eternal Paradise.
Don't think about it.

rewatching lotr, as you do, but there's something hitting about Isildur getting killed by three arrows (to the back) while abandoning his men versus Boromir getting killed by three arrows (to the chest) while doing everything to save Merry and Pippin and the influence of the ring over men, idk but my heart did a thing when i noticed it :(
