A Dying Wish is an interactive story about being a bird.
Well, not just a bird.
Thousands of years ago, you were worshipped - maybe they built grand temples and statues of you, maybe secret little shrines in the darkest parts of the endless woods...
But none of that matters anymore. The statues and temples of old have crumbled into dust and the woods burned away in the fires of industry.
Yet you are still there today, unknown and uncaring, hidden in the rubble of this broken world, in which a humanity far beyond its peak slowly grinds towards its own erasure.
Although fatigue should be unknown to you no matter what physical form you assume, you find yourself to be tired. That's why you chose to become a mortal bird, fragile but free, and seek out one of the few remaining forests to starve to death in relative peace - not that you're sure what death actually means to a being like you.
But as you come to rest on the branch of a lone maple tree in the midst of countless birches, you find that you are not alone... a human is bleeding out beneath your tree.
Genre: Romance, Horror Setting: Pseudo-Postapocalyptic ('90s Russia/Yugoslav Wars vibes) Note: there's only one (customizable) RO Objective: find your place among the many monsters in this world and worm your way into the RO's heart
Demo: TBA. This project will only occasionally be worked on as I focus on my main wip, Орлёнок.

THE HIGH REPUBLIC CHECKLIST: If you want to consume these in order, I really like Youtini's High Republic Reading Order list for being extremely comprehensive and solidly updated for Phase III+ or the more middle-ground comprehensive High Republic guide from starwars.com or Wookieepedia generally does a good job putting things in individual release order. This post is just a checklist of what's available and not quite a reflection of read order. loving you is all I know
[klaus mikaelson x reader]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: all you could smell was blood. your skin was stained with it. your clothes drenched. what you needed was the silence and him. but he didn't seem to trust you on that.
pairing: klaus mikaelson x fem!supernatural!reader
w.c: 2K
warnings/content: graphic descriptions of violence; blood; injuries; mentions of dissociation during a specific moment; self-blame; fear of abandonment and not being enough for one to stay; lots of hurt/the comfort; murder talk; there's fluff (if you trust me); mentions of biting (lovebites!).
A/N: this turned darker than I expected it to. it was supposed to be a soft blurb but it became a lot more serious and complex. so go ahead, I hope you enjoy my view of klaus mikaelson <;3
✭°。°。✭°。°。✭°。°。
“May I help?”
Klaus peaked through the bedroom door. you noticed his voice wasn't as assertive as it had been before, it never was when it was directed at you. His tone never carrying an edge or a hint at something other than care.
When the killing spree happened the wolf could be seen inside his eyes, anger radiating off of every limb of his body as he tore off arms, legs and heads. You watched quietly as a smile spread on his lips when all was done. The blood was spilled and he was satisfied.
You weren't mad. You weren't horrified. You were used to it— unfazed by now. Klaus has never been a monster in your eyes, you've seen it yourself how kind his heart could be. How deeply he cared.
After a thousand years of being alive, your way of reacting to things may change. His were just a little bit... Unconventional.
Your eyes caught your reflection through the mirror. Blood. In your shirt. In your hands. In your face. You could smell the iron and you bet that anyone — vampire or not — could also smell it from thirty miles away.
Fuck.
You shouldn't be that affected by it. You've been bloodied before. You've entered situations like that before. Why were you so frozen now?
“Love.”
A knock on the bathroom door made you flinch, wrapping your arms around yourself in a form of protection. I'm home. I'm safe.
“I'm just going to take a bath,” you let out softly, unbuttoning your stained t-shirt. You didn't remember which color it was anymore, it was just deep red now.
“May I help?” the door creaked open, his hesitation to come in was clear. And you couldn't judge, you did looked like a wounded animal that would run away at any approach. “I can prepare the water the way you like it.” He bargained.
You heard the guilt in his voice and your heart clenched. None of that had been his fault. And still, he blamed himself for how you felt. You knew he did.
“Klaus,” you said, lifting a hand to touch the door handle. “I'm fine.”
“You're not." He paused. “And that's completely understandable.”
You wanted to be mad at him. Why had he give that affirmation with such certainty? But he wasn't wrong, was he? He just knew you too well.
“If you'd like to be alone, I can leave. Just know that I'm here whenever you need me.”
You might as well have lunged towards the door, fully opening it and grabbing his wrist, stopping him from leaving. “No,” you retorted, the other hand wrapping around his arm to bring him closer. It's you. It's you that I need. “Stay.” The words left your mouth in a whisper. “Please?”
He didn't need to be told twice.
“Okay.”
His touch was gentle as he helped you take off your clothes. You knew he was afraid to hurt you, more than you already was hurt — barely any physical wounds though. Those would heal quickly.
You don't know how long you spent immersed on the bath, after taking a shower to clean yourself from the all the blood. Your lashes laid shut in your cheeks as your mind finally seemed to give you some rest. Not only that, but Klaus's fingers massaging your scalp while he washed your hair was what made you drift off.
“Love.”
He brushed some of your wet strands away from your face, leaning down to kiss your temple. “Let's dry you up.” You hummed, leaning into his touch unconsciouslly.
“I want to stay here,” You retorted, raising a hand until it reached the back of his head, you started playing with his baby hairs. “Forever. May I?”
“You may do whatever you wish, my darling,” his breath grazed the back of your ear. “I'm only here to make it come true.”
The corner of your lips lifted slightly. A while later you turned to look at him, a silent request. pressing his lips to your cheek softly, he cupped you up in his arms, gaining a loud protest about ruining his shirt. He didn't care, he had plenty of those to spare.
“Is this one good?”
“Mhm.”
One of Klaus's shirt covered your upper body as you buried yourself in the sheets, sighing in delight. Oh, I'm home.
But something's missing — You thought, running a hand on the empty side of the bed.
Before you could call out for him, he arrived at your side, hands roaming over your the small of your back, pulling your body towards his. You went willingly, breathing into his familiar scent. A mix of cashmere wood and after-shave. There you are. you wrapped your arms around his middle, head tucked into his shoulder.
But before you let your body and mind rest for the day, you needed to say something. Or rather, he needed to hear something from you.
“It wasn't your fault,” you begin, tracing random patterns in his shaved jaw. The skin was smooth and he looked so young when he did it. “I know what's happening inside your head right now. I can see the cogs turning.” You let out the last part in a low voice, tapping the side of his head playfully. He looked down at you, studying your features with an unreadable expression. You didn't like because that meant he did not agreed with your statement. However, you'd take it because it also meant he was willing to listen to what you had to say. “You didn't hurt me, Klaus. If you hadn't gotten there, I'd be worse than I was. You saved me.” You inhale deeply. “There's nothing that you could do that would drive me away. I knew who you were before I met you. I chose you and I'd choose you again and again for as long as you allow me to.”
He interrupted you by cupping your face and bringing your lips to his. The kiss was warm and inviting at the same time. But it didn't gave indication to anything else, he just wanted you to know that he believed in your claim — or at least, he was trying to.
“The blood, it— it scared me,” you said, choosing to be sincere as well. That's what he always asked of you after all. That's what you asked of each other. “You know, when I'm fighting back, my brain shuts off. It works more like a... robotic reaction if you know what I mean.”
He nodded, encouraging to carry on.
“It sort of turns off during it and when the adrenaline wears off I'm just... Knackered.” you pause. “I'm working on it. It's a process. The point is: I don't blame you for what happened.”
“Sometimes, I think you should. You are allowed to.” Klaus argued. “My last name puts a target on your back. Everywhere you go. Haven't you ever considered how easier it was to live your life before I walked into it?”
“I have considered it. Yes,” You admit. The pace of his heartbeat quickening slightly. “But that is just a fact. And in the past. A past where I'd never go back to because you weren't in it. Precisely because you weren't in it. Klaus,” you said almost pleadingly. “I would've took off the moment I heard your name if I wanted to. Your reputation precedes you, darling.” He let out a scoff and you smirked. “But you have never been what people said. Not to me. You are kind, despite your stubborness in believing in that. You are protective, god forbid a threat to your family. And most of all, you are loveable.” You could see his jaw clench as he looked away. That wouldn't stop you. “You deserve love and you deserve to be cared for. You also deserve me even if you keep telling yourself otherwise.” You had to tilt your head to meet his dark blue eyes, he was too busy acting like a toddler avoiding your gaze. Your grin widened when you succeeded.
“I love you, Klaus Mikaelson.” You said, pecking his left cheek. “My life is exactly the way I'd want it to be,” then his right one. “...I don't want easier. I want you. I hope someday you get that through your thick thousanth-year skull.”
“Are you calling me old?” He poked your hip, making you squirm and slap his chest in response. A hoarse chuckle reverberated through the room.
“I saw you blush. Tickling me isn't going to change that.”
“You saw no such thing.”
“I did.”
“Did not.”
“You sound like a child—” a sound of surprise let your mouth as he switched you over. His arms supporting his weight as he kissed down your neck passionately, lowering to your torso. Your shirt lifted slightly.
“There's something you need to know.” he said gravelly, mouth working on your skin with diligence. You shivered at the soft bite on your stomach, he marked you there twice, fingers grazing the lovebites. When he looked back at you, he didn't have that haunting look in his eyes anymore. Something softer laid there. Conviction. “I love you,” he said, laying back at your side. “And you're brave. You're strong. There's situations we can't control how we feel or what we do. You said that I saved you. But you save me every single day just by being here. By choosing me.”
You blink up at him, not expecting those words. Communication was something essential in your relationship. That's why you were having this conversation in the first place, but hearing him say that you saved him was just— you didn't expect it. You didn't imagine he felt like that.
“I'm not letting you go anywhere. don't fool yourself.” He gave you a smug smile and you shook in laughter by the abrupt change. From love confession to murderous threat. “You are too involved.” You are half of me. You have half of me. Who would I be if you left? What part of me would survive? “i'd have to kill you.” He watched fondly as your face twitched with joy.
“Oh?” You lifted your head, chin resting against the back of your hands on his chest. “Really? That'd be a dilemma.” Your eyes glinted wickedly. “Better start now, Mikaelson. But have it mind that I'm always a step ahead of you.”
He couldn't even deny that.
“Are you?” He teased, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. You grinned up at him, eyes wrinkling at the edges. Bloody hell. I'm done for. His brain screamed. “You're so bloody beautiful,” his eyes softened, a finger touching your lower lip. “I couldn't imagine my life without you in it.” Even if you decide to go one day. And it will destroy me. It will wreck every barrier I've ever build. “I love you. Always and forever.”
You laid your lips on his, kissing him slowly, gently. The world around you becoming dust while the only real palpable thing was his body and your touch.
And there it is. his mind flaring with you without his control, a dangerous combination but he was too far gone to be able to fight it.
“I love you too,” you breathed into his mouth, your grip on each side of his neck tightening as if you feared he'd slip away. Your body relaxing on his. “Always and forever.”

(a/n: yes i know i double songs in my fics but it's what i'm listening to lol)
Songs: "Ain't It Fun" by Paramore
words: 2.1k
“Holy fuck,” you breathe, curling forward with your hands in Luffy’s hair. He’s licking at your clit with abandon, two fingers pistoning in and out of you at a breakneck speed. Your third orgasm for the night crests over you like a wave, and you shudder in his hands.
“Atta girl,” he says, grinning wide with your slick shining across his face. “Cum for me again?” He kisses the inside of your thigh, crooking his fingers up inside you. You gasp.
“Y-yes sir…,” you manage out, sweat pouring down your temples. Your body is twitchy, blissed out, and warm where it presses into the kitchen counter. Sanji was somewhere off to the side, cleaning up after his own turn eating you out.
Luffy wanted you all to himself, now.
But apparently the world had other plans, because the door swings open with a bang.
“Sanji—!” You gasp out, covering your chest, “I thought you locked the door!!!”
“Mon cherie—,” Sanji starts, whirling from where he’d been standing at the sink with his sleeves pushed up over muscular forearms. Then all three of you freeze.
“So that’s where you’ve all been disappearing off to.” A deadpan voice speaks from the doorway.
You peak over Luffy’s head, who’s gone terribly still from between your legs. Zoro is standing framed by light with his arms folded over his chest. Your thighs shake where they’re draped over your captain’s shoulders. He presses a kiss to your clit, and you shiver.
“Luffy?” You peek down at him, and he’s regarding you with deadly calm. You swallow, skin shivering with a light sheen of sweat. Your tails are pressed against your back.
“Did ya want him ta watch?” Luffy asks you, voice coarse. He pumps his fingers in and out of you, experimentally. “I don’t mind, kitty cat.”
“Um—,” you squeak, hiding your head in your hands. Breath is coming in short bursts, your veins are popping with firecrackers, and you can’t think with the sound of Sanji and Zoro bickering over you, plus the sliding of Luffy’s fingers is all just too much—
“STOP!”
You shout, fists banging against the wall behind you. The tile is cool as you hit it with a dull thud. You breathe, ragged and sharp. The three men all stare at you, silent.
“You can stay if you want,” you regard Zoro over the top of Luffy’s head, your hand still buried in the raven locks. “But you can’t keep arguing,” you shoot a glare over at Sanji, who starts babbling out apologies. You ignore him, waving him off with a huff.
Zoro is staring at you with steel in his eye.
“Why did you barge in here?” You ask him, unraveling your legs from Luffy’s neck. You’re naked, completely on display for the swordsman. Zoro clears his throat.
“Curious,” is all he says.
You flick an eyebrow. “C’mere, then.”
Slowly, steadily, he stalks toward you. Like a tiger in the rushes, ready to pounce. Luffy stands, hovering at your side with fidgety hands.
“H-he’s really nice, Vasya!” He stammers, skimming his knuckles up your thighs. He places a kiss to the underside of your jaw. He whispers in your ear, “I won’t let him do anything you don’t wanna do.”
“I know,” you murmur, kissing Luffy’s temple while maintaining eye contact with Zoro. Neither of you have broken it yet, and neither of you have even blinked. You haven’t gotten to know the swordsman quite yet, wary of his broad shoulders and glinting blades. But you feel how he protects the crew, especially Luffy, and Luffy is special to you.
Zoro stands an inch away from your skin, hovering just in front of your knees. Sitting on the counter means you’re at eye level with him. His jaw clenches.
You cock your chin at him. “Kiss me?” You ask, voice betraying the tremor you feel in your gut. You’ve already cum like, four times in the last hour. Both Luffy and Sanji now were hanging at either side of you, with Zoro in the middle.
You want to be in the middle.
Zoro delicately traces his calloused fingertips along your cheekbone. Tingles follow in their wake. He breaks eye contact to look at Luffy.
“S’alright, captain?”
Luffy is looking at you, so you nod in answer. Luffy nods too. He squeezes your hand where it rests on your thigh. Sanji strokes your hair.
The kitchen light sways slightly, as the ship rocks in the waves. Zoro traces your bottom lip with the pad of his thumb, and leans in.
He tastes like sea salt.
“Mmph,” you hum, as he suddenly deepens the kiss. The hand that isn’t held by Luffy goes to stroke through Zoro’s green hair, feeling it damp with sweat.
“Been working out?” You tease against his lips. He only grunts in response, wrapping a strong hand around your waist. It easily spans half the width of your torso. “Fuck…,” you whisper, and he smirks into the kiss.
“Maybe,” he murmurs, tracing his thumb along your ribs. You want him to touch higher, harder. Hotter.
“Kitty?” Luffy tugs on a lock of your hair, and you break away from Zoro’s heated gaze long enough to look at Luffy instead. He’s pouting. “Me next?”
You flush, and lean forward to lick your way past his lips. He hums in appreciation, and not-so-subtly moves Zoro out of the way. He wants to press into your heat, feel your skin beneath his hands.
“Is this the way it usually is?” Zoro quietly asks the cook. His fingers dance along your scabby knees. You shiver under his touch, and hear the cook giggle from somewhere to the left. His hands have moved from your hair to your neck, where they hold you still for Luffy to kiss. He tastes immaculate under your tongue.
“More or less,” Sanji admits. “Captain doesn’t like sharing what’s his.”
“Hmph.” Zoro grunts in response, and you can’t help but grin. Being wanted by three of these monstrous men?
How much better could it get?
“Luuuffyyy,” you hum against his lips. Your boyfriend moans, not wanting to give up his turn just yet. He bites at your bottom lip.
“Want him ta make ya cum?” He asks, hoarse, his forehead pressed to yours. His warmth radiates through you, making your toes curl. You run your fingers through his silky hair.
“Mhmm,” you nod, still focused only on Luffy. He needs your attention right now, and you’re more than happy to give it to him. You tilt an eyebrow. “If he can.”
Luffy snickers.
“Your turn,” he says to Zoro, after stepping aside. Luffy turns to hop up on the counter next to you, and kicks a heel into the cabinets below. His other leg is bent up on the counter, arm thrown haphazard over his knee.
His other arm snakes around your hips, holding you close as he leans his warm weight into your side. Zoro stands between your legs.
“Well,” Luffy says, leveling a heavy gaze at his first mate, “Kneel.”
Zoro obeys.
****
Which is how you ended up with three men’s mouths happily pleasuring you all at once.
Sanji is buried between your tits, going from sucking hard on your nipples to playing with them roughly with his slender fingertips. Luffy is taking all of your attention for himself, having grabbed your face in both hands for a kiss and hasn’t let go since. He moans, and mutters sweet praises into your lips that you greedily swallow like honey in your tea.
And Zoro.
Zoro.
He is still kneeling on the kitchen tile, head buried between your thighs. His jaw is apparently just as strong as the rest of him (but that doesn’t surprise you, three-sword-style and all), because he keeps lapping at your clit with the same, ferocious pace as what he started with.
He laves his soft, wide tongue across the entrance of your pussy, and tentatively pokes in. You start, gasping with your legs clenched, and then Zoro is fucking you with his tongue. His hand comes up to rub greedy circles at your clit, using the pads of his third and fourth fingers. The friction electrifies you, completely.
“F-fuck, Zo—,” you gasp out, breaking the kiss with Luffy, who whines. He leans in to start nipping at your chin, leaving love bites all the way down your neck. Tomorrow you’re sure it’ll be decorated with lovely, toothy blotches that bloom violet against your skin. Luffy noses at your jaw.
“Is he doin’ good?” He asks, voice ragged and hazy. You nod, biting your bottom lip.
“Mhmm,” you manage out.
“Good girl,” he praises you, before diving back in to shove his tongue down your throat. You take him, gladly. Luffy is moaning into your mouth with abandon, his hands frisking in your hair like there’s no tomorrow. Zoro laps at your clit, opting to move his fingers down to play with your pussy again. You groan.
“Luuffyyyyy,” you whine, and he knocks his forehead against yours, “Feels good…want more of you.” You pout up at him with bitten lips, and heat flashes in his eyes. He stands on the counter, unbuttoning his shorts with his pelvis now level with your face.
Sanji gasps against your neck, where he’d started licking up and down as he whispered sweet nothings in your ear. “M-me too, mon cherie,” he says as he fumbles with his belt. You dive your hand beneath his trousers, bypassing his boxers to close your fist around his dick. Sanji is long and thick, with a rosy head that feels so good pulsing against your hand. You start pumping him in time with Zoro’s rhythm. He grins between your legs.
“Cock hungry, aren’t ya?”
“How could I not be?” You laugh, face flushed. “Look at you three.”
Luffy giggles, having stripped off his shorts and is now eagerly awaiting your velvet mouth. “Like what you see?” He cocks an eyebrow as he starts pumping his own cock, inches from your face.
You stick your tongue out, sweeping up the underside of his shaft only to lick at the glistening precum gathered at his tip. Luffy’s cock is solid, thicker than Sanji’s with a bronzed head that makes your mouth water. You lick up his shaft again.
“Love it,” you confess, and start bucking your hips into Zoro’s face. He lets you grind against him, pushing up the flat of his tongue against your heat.
Sanji moans against your neck, palming at your breasts with shaky hands. His cheeks are blushing so sweetly, like the strawberry soda he poured for you earlier. You can still taste it on his lips.
“Good boy, Sanji,” you croon, kissing the top of his head. He gets so whiny, when he’s like this. Not that you mind. His beautiful, boyish features blushed and pleasured just from your touch alone is enough to light a fire beneath your ego. You feel it inflate like a hot air balloon, but you can’t do anything besides take it for a ride.
Zoro’s getting you there soon, anyway.
You pant against Sanji’s head, his hair glinting soft under your cheek. You press a kiss to his head again. “Come for me?” You pant, reaching up with your other hand to palm Luffy’s cock. You couldn’t take him down your throat right now; you needed to breathe.
Luffy wraps his hands around yours, and starts fucking your fist with pistoning hips. You moan, letting a wave of pleasure swell up inside you. You were gonna—
“Fuck!” You scream, curling forward with your hands full of cock, and your pussy full of Zoro’s tongue. He grins from where he’s fucking you through your orgasm, tracing careful circles on your clit as you cum. He slows down, eventually, as your breathing evens out. Flustered and high, you turn your attention back to the boys at your sides.
“F-faster,” Luffy moans, as Sanji messily licks against your collarbone. Luffy speed-demons his way to orgasm, hips slamming against your fist until he’s spurting hot, white cum all over your face and hand. He shoves it into your mouth, making you take his length as he spasms and gasps his way through ecstasy.
You gasp, choked, and muffle out a moan as Sanji squeezes a delicate hand around your throat. Luffy grunts something unintelligible and feral as he feels the pressure tighten.
“Ganna—,” he stutters, “Cum again,” and shudders down your throat.
You take it, hot and delicious, as Sanji pulses his grasp on your throat. Stars dance behind your eyes as Zoro slowly stands up, regarding you with such emerald ferocity you don’t know what to do.
You glance down to see a hot, shining cock in the swordsman’s deft hand, brown tip disappearing in and out of his cum-covered fist. His head tips back as strokes it, grunting in pleasure after bringing himself over the edge with you. You all pant, lost in the bubbles of afterglow as you all recover.
“Fuck,” Zoro finally says. “That was fun.”

Captain Rex x F!Reader x Fives
Pt. 2 Every night, without fail, you wake up crying, heaving as you realise the monsters of your nightmares have been long left behind on the battlefields you fought on alongside your beloved Clone Troopers, the 501st Legion. Every night, without fail, you note down all your thoughts and feelings onto paper, into your beloved Diary that your Jedi Master has given to you as a gift. What happens when the Captain and Trooper of the 501st get their hands on your prized possession? Word Count: 2845 Warnings: Very much unedited, most definitely not lore-accurate as I have just begun to watch Clone Wars. A/N: A spur-of-the-moment kind of fic, it will be a two parter story :) It does say Female reader as that is what I had in mind, however there are no pronouns or descriptions used that allude to the reader being female!
Tumblr media
Your body shot straight up, sweat rolling down the side of your temple, shoulders heaving up and down rapidly through heavy breaths. You wearily scanned the area, the room you found yourself in, your bedroom, hidden under a blanketed darkness. You could vaguely make out the different shapes of objects in your room; the steel wardrobe, the desk seated in a faraway corner, the tall frame of the door. The small line of light that peaked through provided some comfort, some more visibly.
A shaky hand reached for the night light beside your temporary bed - a silver steel, upright lamp that provided a bright, white light. It didn't provide much comfort as hard white light flooded the room, but it was enough to convince you that the terrors in your dreams weren't physically present in your waking days.
Heaving a slow, heavy sigh, you slid back down into the pale comfort of your sheets, hugging a pillow to your body.
As you laid there, light still on, eyes shut, you were engulfed in the sound of deafening silence. You could almost hear the light buzzing of the mechanical structures of the ship, ringing in your ears.
You sighed again, turning your body to face the door. The light from the outside tickled at your eyelids, forcing them to flutter open. With a groan, you shoved your nose deeper into the soft material of your pillow, beginning to count down, hoping that, the mental image of numerous General's jumping up and down like innocent sheep, would lull you back to sleep soon enough.
Mini Skywalker's, Plo Koon's and Obi Wan Kenobi's cluttered your mind, hopping over a tall fence as you silently counted, 'One.. Two.. Three' and so on. It was definitely interesting image to think of, but in the meantime, it did little to stop your body from tossing and turning, heaving and sighing, twisting in your sheets.
With another, heavy sigh, you reached into your bedside draw, pulling out a small notebook and pen. You flipped it to the most recent page, jotting down the date and time, a small curse leaving your lips as you noticed the time; 01:25.
You were going to become a zombie at this rate.
Nethertheless, you began spilling words onto the page, the crease between your brows easing as time passed, the fast pace of your heartbeat steadying with each word that slipped past the boundaries of your mind.
By the time sleep had finally pulled you into it's clutches, your mind could tell the ship was leaving hyperspace, and approaching a new atmosphere, your diary and pen abandoned at your side, left open on the most recent page yet again.
You awoke when the ship had landed; merely five hours later. The metal hit the ground with a thud, successfully forcing your eyes open. You laid there for a long while, ears twitching as you listened to the distant sounds of clone troopers wandering the hallways, accompanied by loud chatter and laughter.
Those moments, those peaceful moments, where your men could take a moment to relax and unravel were your favourite. You fought hard to keep every single one alive, the guilt chipping away at your sturdy resolve, discipline and beliefs in the Jedi rules.
You had broken one of the most important rules from the very beginning; it was forbidden to form attachments. How could you abide by such a cruel rule, when you were stationed with the same men for the last three years, getting to know them, living with them, laughing and sharing meals? To you, such a rule shouldn't exist. You could tell many other Jedi also disagreed with it - Anakin Skywalker being one amongst many. Even Obi Wan Kenobi, whose rebellious personality did very little to hide his affections for a certain Mandalorian Senator..
Taking in a deep breath, you slowly opened your eyes, looking around the room.
A warm glow peaked through the tightly shut curtains, warming your skin in a gentle embrace. Even though your eyes burned with exhaustion, you had willed yourself to get up. It was already 07:00, your men were definitely up and ready for their mission briefing.
Though they'd have to wait a little longer, you supposed.
This was meant to be an easy, diplomatic mission centred around a Neutral planet. You and your troops, the 501st, would be ensuring the citizens' safety, and potentially discussing joining the Democratic Republic.
After spending some time getting ready, you left your quarters, silently stalking through the hallways, a distant rumble of the canteen ringing in your ears. The closer you got, the more shouts and lively conversations you could hear.
All of those men shared the same exact voice, but the small differences in speech patterns, accents, tone and volume, were enough for you to be able to distinguish between your squadron without even seeing any of their faces.
Tugging your robes closer to your body, you entered the canteen, heading straight for the food buffet. It was going to be a simple mission - grab some toast, some water, and escape before anyone could notice you.
And simple it would of been, if it wasn't for a certain Captain's sharp eyes and enhanced instincts; as if an alarm went off in his head anytime you appeared within his vicinity.
In no time, you felt his warm breath fan over the back of your neck, his chest close enough for you to feel the coolness radiating off his body armour.
"Good morning, Captain." You spoke softly, a hint of tiredness still laced within your voice as you blinked slowly, placing a piece of toast on your tray.
"G'morning General," His voice came out a rolling, warm rumble, directly by your ear as Rex leaned over you, "What are you having for breakfast?" He asked, his honey-brown eyes scanning over your food tray.
"Nuffin special, Captain, just a plain toast and water, how 'bout you?" You asked, moving away from the queue and to an empty table. You looked to Rex, noticing the corners of his lips tugging upwards, the sight warming your closed-off heart. You desperately wanted to cradle the side of his face in your palm, to soothe over the lines that wedged themselves between his eyebrows, noticing his exhaustion still showing even after a decent night's sleep.
"I've already had my breakfast with Fives and Echo, woke up quite early actually." He spoke softly, a chuckle escaping his lips as his palm rested on the small of your back, leading you to your seat.
Confusion took over your body as you sat down, bringing the toast up to your lips, taking a bite. "So, why are you here then, Captain?" You asked through a mouthful, eyeing him up and down, confusion clear as day across your face.
At that, his face hardened into one he wore often during meetings and battles, an uncertain heaviness clouding his eyes. His fists clenched atop his lap, his lips pulling into a thin line. He wished to discuss the mission with you; hoping to lessen the number of men needed. Though he wasn't sure how willing you'd be to give your men a small vacation, he still wanted to attempt to provide his brothers with some respite.
What kind of Captain would he be if he didn't consider his soldiers' health?
"Actually- I wanted to discuss the mission with you, General," He paused, breaking eye contact as his gaze dropped to his lap, then scaled back up to focus on the ice-blue, steel table separating the two of you, "I was thinking-"
"Thinking too much isn't good for you Rex, you've got enough lines on your forehead already." You joked, interrupting the clearly tense Captain. As you eyed him up and down with a soft smile, his shoulders visibly relaxed, the thin line his lips had become turning into the softest of smiles, his cheeks puffing up into marshmallows over the stretch.
"W-Well, I was wondering if you could allow my men to take this time to rest." He stated, his voice dropping to a low rumble as he eyed you from underneath a curtain of lashes. He was using his best puppy eyes, knowing very well what effect those had on you.
You blinked once, then twice, your eyes widening owlishly as you stared at Rex.
Was he.. Trying to woo you?
You sat just the smallest bit straighter, your shoulders stiffening as you begged the Maker for Rex to not pick up on the sudden stiffiness that clutched onto your body with a steel grip.
Why was he making things so much harder for you?
"R-Rex.. I'm not sure I-" You started, your stomach dropping as he released a defeated sigh.
"I know General, I know.. It's just that, after the last mission, we're all still quite exhausted." He spoke, his gaze unwavering as he leaned closer to you, his scent invading your nostrils. He smelled of the Canteen's breakfast, a faint scent of aftershave lingering over him. Had he shaved already? You never got to see more than a hint of stubble on his jaw and chin, before it was gone with the wind; like it never even existed.
That's why you were grateful for Fives; that man's goatee could never disappoint. You were sure a beard of some sorts would suit Rex so well - it wasn't too difficult to imagine with his brother around, serving as an example.
What would it feel like to feel the short hairs underneath your fingers? To feel the smooth skin of his cheek under your palm? The soft plushness of his lips against yours-
"General?" He interrupted your fleeting thoughts, a glint of hope shining in his eyes as you shook your head lightly.
It was the defeated, gentle sigh that gave you away.
If it were anyone else, Rex would never dare to ask such a question. But with you- with you, his men felt most comfortable, most safe. They respected you, and could feel you returning that respect every time you'd prioritise their lives over yours, telling them to retreat, to find cover as you had a handle on every situation, on every battle. You never abandoned them.
"Fine.. But I'll need at least one of you to accompany me." You paused, quirking a brow at the Captain, conveying your seriousness in just one look. "And I'll need the men to be on guard, okay? We can't risk being caught off guard if anything were to happen." You finally finished, your toast long forgotten, cooling down in the chilled canteen, as Rex graced you with the gentlest of smiles, his gaze softening the longer he listened to you.
He knew he could count on you, and he would prove to you that this wasn't a mistake. That it wouldn't be.
Clearing his throat, Rex stood up from his seat, rounding the table to you.
"Thank you General, I can assure you that the squadron will be ready for any and every circumstance, and I will personally escort you to the meetings. You have my word." He spoke, reaching his hand out for yours. Confusedly, you extended your hand into his grasp, a hint of pink dusting your cheeks as he pressed a swift kiss to your knuckles.
"R-Re- Uhm, Captain," You stuttered and paused, clearing your throat as you prayed for the blush to go away, "There is no need to thank me." You insisted, slowly getting up from your seat. His gaze followed you, tracing over your body with an unknown emotion hiding behind his thick lashes.
"Thank you General, now if you'll excuse me, I'll go inform the others that haven't heard." He stated, bidding you a goodbye, cheers following soon after as Rex lifted a hand, signing a thumbs up to some of his men behind you. Your gaze followed his form as you watched him exit the canteen, his head turning to look back at you one last time before the doors slid shut behind him.
"What the hell was that.." You whispered, continuing your breakfast as your thoughts ran at tens of miles an hour, a blush permanently settled on your cheeks.
-
"Captain, are you sure this is a good idea?" Fives asked as he adjusted his helmet, following Rex as they made their way to your quarters.
"Yes yes, I'm sure. She should be in here anyway." Rex stated, waving his brother's concerns off as they rounded the corner, your bedroom doors coming into sight. "Besides, she said we should meet her at her quarters before we depart." He insisted, coming to a stop by your doors.
Raising his fisted hand, Rex knocked on your doors three times before backing away, waiting for a response.
As a moment turned into a minute, and a minute turned into three, Rex knocked again, this time calling out your title. "General? Are you in there?" He asked, his voice raised in uncertainty. When he received no reply once again, he shook his head.
"I don't think she's in there." He turned to Fives, feet ready to start moving again as his brain racked over any other locations on the ship that you frequented. Fives looked at Rex, quirking a curious brow at him, though his helmet covered any and all expressions he shot in his brother's way.
"Maybe we should go in? Who knows, maybe the General got herself stuck in the refresher." He quipped, a smirk tugging at his lips as Fives made his way over to your door. Pressing a button, the doors swiftly opened before him.
Walking over to the doors of your refresher, Rex followed after Fives, taking his helmet off, unable to, unwilling to, stop his eyes from wondering all over your room, taking note of the lack of personalised decorations in your bedroom. There was a desk, numerous multi-coloured folders stacked neatly on top of it, a small lamp next to them.
He looked over your wardrobe, his fingers itching to pull it open, to see what other articles of clothing you owned apart from your Jedi robes.
As Fives knocked at the refresher doors, his helmet at his side, Rex inched closer to your bed, noticing a small notebook hidden just beside your pillow, still open on the most recent page. His fingers reached over for it, eyes scanning over the yellow-coloured pages, gloved hands gliding over the leathery spine of the small book.
"Oooh, what's that?"
Before Rex could react, the book was snatched from his grasp, his head snapping upwards to see Fives flipping through the pages, turning and closing the book, only to gasp. That had Rex's ears almost twitching, a curious brow quirked up.
"What? What is it Fives?" Rex asked, standing next to his brother.
The silence that followed made him uneasy, and leaning his head closer, he looked to the book, his lips gaping open.
"Do you see what I see?" Fives inquired, a smirk tugging at his lips as he turned his head to Rex. All that Rex could do was nod in stunned silence.
"Y/n's Personal Diary.." Fives whispered aloud, eyes scanning over the firsts page.
A lump built up in Rex's throat, his fingers twitching nervously at his sides as Fives read over the words you had messily written in your diary, his heart thumping as he recounted each memory, a soft smile tugging at both brothers' lips as they could feel every emotion you had spilled out onto the pages.
Though they quickly scrambled to hide the small book behind their backs, interrupted by the sound of your bedroom doors sliding open.
A scream left your lips as your gaze landed on the two armoured men, heart racing wildly at the unexpected scare. Their gazes didn't linger on you for too long, a faint pink ghosting over their cheeks as they looked anywhere but you.
"H-Hi General, we tried knocking but-" Rex begun, unsure of how to explain why he and his brother were snooping around your quarters.
"We were worried that you got stuck in the refresher when we heard no answer, so we wanted to make sure you were safe and ready for our trip." Fives finished Rex's sentence, casting his brother and Captain a side glance, his lips stretched into an awkward, innocent grin on his face.
"R-Right.. Sorry, General, it won't happen again."
"That's quite alright, I'm actually flattered you men were worried about me," You spoke softly, hand covering your mouth as you giggled at their explanation, your heart warming at the thought that the two cared so much for your well-being. Though you wouldn't let yourself show just how much that thought made you blush. "Now come on, we've got meetings to go to." You exclaimed, waving the two men over as you made your way out into the hall.
Giving each other a knowing glance, Rex and Fives followed, quietly telling one another to hide the diary. Rex nudged Fives with his elbow, now too far gone to quietly and innocently return the book to its original place.
"Just shove it into your bag.." Rex hissed out through thin lips, rushing after you as he cast his brother one last glance, making sure the diary was stored safely in one of their backpacks.

I know we sickos all love the tragic memory of Durge killing their parents as a child, but honestly - as a lover of interpreting Durge as a tragic eldricht horror cuckoo/changeling creature - my favourite memory is baby Durge playing tag with the other children in a "time before Bhaal".
They're being gentle with their friends, but the narration explicitly describes them as hunting and compares them to a predator. If Durge pities their child self the narration just goes: "Mayhaps that child was already a murderer." "Oh, sorry, did you think this was a happy memory?" asks the game before it points and laughs at your naivete.
You pair that with the little cuckoo killing their foster parents and it's very much like somebody took in a baby predator. Sure, it hasn't grown into its claws and aggression but then we reach the starting point of puberty and suddenly the once cuddly baby is a danger to everyone around it.
Oh, except that apparently there's a chance that Durge was already killing things as a baby!
We know they were aware of Sceleritas following them around when they were young, occasionally talking to them as he does in the dead family memory - even if he hadn't presented himself yet. Even if he doesn't always speak, did Durge grow up seeing him out of the corner of their eye?
The fun thing about Durge is that we get to make our own character out of the scraps we're given, so all of it is up to us to decide for our own characters/playthroughs.
I interpret Durge as being like the Bhaalspawn we meet in Throne of Bhaal, Gavid, and the 3.5e tieflings - they've always known they were different. Always had dark urges and whispers in their mind, coming from the essence in their blood.
Kids have accidents around them, pets go missing. Maybe they have black outs, maybe they're aware but can't stop (small children aren't exactly masters of impulse control). We know from a later memory that Durge feels self-hatred regarding their urges, so presumably they learnt enough to know this is wrong and feel guilt. Do they still feel pain and nausea if they resist? I'm going to assume for my own take that since they got the Urge back then, they did.
I wonder if their family ever took them to wizards and clerics, trying to find out if their child was cursed?
Then that family dies. Violently. Graphically. Another tragic accident taking place around the twitchy weird kid who sees monsters and hears voices.
If you play paladin then the Oathbreaker Knight tells you that you've broken your oath multiple times, so I assume that these disasters didn't stop happening.
And judging from the fact that they showed uncharacteristic compassion to a homeless person at the peak of their "I'm such an evil bastard villains like Elder Brains and the God of Tyranny are impressed" era, I think that Durge ended up homeless themselves at some point between losing their parents and joining the temple (I'm also pretty sure that's the period of their life the cannibalism memory happened in).
And then they "came of age" (I recall the age of majority being 15 in the Realms at some point, but can't find that anywhere so don't take my word for it) and Sceleritas introduces himself, and it's time for a family history lesson that explains everything and Orin gets a sibling she absolutely never wanted, ever - put that thing back in the ditch it came from, so help me.

Appendix D: Some Pig/One More Final
The first three posts in this series are here.
Undertale was a slightly postmodern children's fantasy movie produced by Jim Henson's Creature Shop in the '80s. Noah Hathaway played the protagonist, Frisk, who went on a long quest to escape from a magical prison inside Mt. Ebott; Frisk's father had thrown them into the mountain, known to be full of monsters, in an attempt to kill them. However, it's suggested that as a human, Frisk is inherently more of a protagonist than a monster can be, and has a vague sort of magical power over them. Toriel's death, which Frisk accidentally causes early in the movie, is commonly listed as a Peak Sad Childhood Moment.
George Orwell wrote The Writing In The Web, a political fable about a cult started by a well-meaning spider. E. B. White wrote Snowball's Farm, a whimsical children's tale about a farm whose animals decide to take over.
Infamously, Emmanuel Goldstein's monologue fills dozens of pages, takes at least three hours to read aloud, and brings the plot of Ayn Rand's 1984 to a screeching halt.
Short story collections and anthologies often keep the same title, author, and spirit, it's just the stories that are swapped out. For example, classic episodes of Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone include A Wonderful Life, The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, Miracle On 34th Street, and The Sixth Sense. 1983's The Twilight Zone Movie includes segments based on classic episodes Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (directed by John Landis and given anti-war themes), Cocoon, The Poltergeist, and In Search of the Twelve Monkeys (the original starred a young William Shatner). Candle Cove is an episode of Black Mirror.
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a 1999 Ben Stiller comedy about a team of low-rent superheroes who theme themselves after public domain characters because they cannot afford licensing fees. The film was well-reviewed, but a box office bomb. It was actually the first film to use Smash Mouth's One Week - the One Week music video is actually cross promotion with League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - and it would remain the film most associated with the song until Dreamworks' Happily N'Ever After hit theaters two years later.
The Amazing Digital Circus was a virtual pet game and toy line that struck when the iron was hot on that niche, before being bought out by Hasbro and rebooted a few times in different forms and mediums. Lauren Faust created a long-running television cartoon of it that was a huge smash hit with fandom culture despite the show's clearly very young target audience. The property's canon is all very light kiddie fare; the scariest thing about The Amazing Digital Circus is that for a brief and touchy stretch of time in the early 2000s, it was owned by the Peoples Temple, which was seriously considering turning it into a recruiting platform.
Your cringe unpublished works that you gave up on were almost certainly swapped around with other people's cringe unpublished works that they gave up on. There's lots of upwards and downwards mobility to the scramble, but not usually that much. Exceptions are very rare - like a beggar suddenly being made king, or a god being reincarnated into an ant - but they do occasionally happen. For example, what you know as the land of Oz exists only in the head of a young Milwaukee stoner, who suddenly came up with the idea for an epic graphic novel one day in the 2010s while sitting on the bus, and spent a couple of years absolutely convinced she would eventually make it. (She cannot draw.) Conversely, L. Frank Baum's children's fantasy series, Enormia, which has been adapted and reimagined many times, most notably as audiences' introduction to color film, exists in your world only as a different Milwaukee stoner's overly elaborate backstory for his jerkoff sessions. This kind of thing is much more the exception than the rule, and even such exceptions are almost always much smaller in scope - an obscure stillborn project getting swapped around with an obscure out-of-print novel, or an obscure direct-to-video z-movie.
The True Detectives forum and its many schismatic spinoffs, all of which are devoted to discussing mystery fiction, host literally thousands of Wind fanfics. Many of the writers - perhaps most of them - have never actually read Wind, just other fanfiction of it; next to none of the fics are worth reading. Most Wind fics reuse the original protagonist, Rorschach, but treat him as a generically relatable blank slate. The most common fic format by far is the "altdunnit", a form of what-if scenario in which the mystery that sets off Wind's plot is different in some way.
Tumblr media
Rorschach is held by a substantial portion of the fandom to be an egg (a trans woman who has not realized it yet). Wildbow has never endorsed this interpretation, and it doesn't seem to be much on his radar. In recent years, the trans Rorschach portion of the fandom has grown; they don't tend to look especially kindly on Warn, much of which Wildbow wrote as a response to fans (like those on the True Detectives forum) he felt had been too inclined to take Rorschach's side in Wind. Flame wars over Warn's content were constant throughout its serial publication, and made it easily the rockiest experience of Wildbow's writing career.
Some noteworthy and relevant podcasts include Jonathan Sims' The Dresden Files, the Ranged Touch Network's Scott Pilgrim Made The World, Doof Media's Winding Down (later Warning Down), and the McElroy family's The Adventure Zone (an actual play podcast which has currently had three major campaigns, two anthology series, and various one-shots). Film Reroll is still an actual play podcast that runs the basic setups of movies (and occasionally other media) as short tabletop campaigns; occasionally, their version of a movie will be much closer to ours than it is to the version of the movie in their own universe.
Xenobuddy was an early childhood public access show, originally created for the BBC in the late 1990s but later aired internationally. The title character is a small alien puppet who lives on a futuristic spaceship staffed by children (who speak a vague conlang akin to a dollar store Esperanto). At the end of every episode, it gets lost and is found, usually by (harmlessly) bursting out of one of the children. It was very popular with its target audience and much loathed by parents. Edgy ironic fanart depicting the titular Xenobuddy as some kind of dangerous parasite abounds.
Static is a supernatural slasher franchise created by Wes Craven, with the first film, also simply titled Static, released in 1984. The movies concern a group of gibbering neotenous ogre-fae who wake up in the modern day after a long sleep, incorporate televisions into their bodies, and start eating people by sucking them into hellish pocket dimensions. The Screen-Guts collectively are probably in the top five antagonists most people think of when they think of slasher horror.
Toby Fox's ROSEQUARTZ is especially known for its meta take on video game morality systems. The game has a mission-based structure; throughout it, the player is encouraged to take on a pacifist playstyle, championed by the player character's late mother, the title character. However, the Crystal Gems give the player enough autonomy that you are entirely able to take a much more violent tack; doing so has a rippling effect on the game's writing in countless immersively-integrated ways. If the player goes out of their way to be as murderous as possible - the so-called "genocide route" - the differences from the main route grow much more extreme, and rather than gaining allies, you start to lose them, as the Crystal Gems realize what you're doing and one by one turn against you. If you manage to shatter Garnet - it's the hardest and most iconic fight in the game, Megalovania is playing, her Future Vision gets used for all it's worth - then you use your knife to slash at the cosmos, erasing Earth, Homeworld, and everything else. This, Toby Fox is saying, is apparently all you want out of a video game - another toy to break.
Warner Bros still did Space Jam with Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes, it's just that the Looney Tunes in question were Mickey Mouse and friends. They also still did a second one with LeBron James, which was, by God, somehow worse. They put Ms. Frizzle in it.
Walt Disney made his squeaky clean reputation on the back of adaptations of things like Rudyard Kipling's adventure novel The Call of Cthulhu, P. L. Travers' Thomas the Tank Engine, and Erich Kästner's feel-good coming-of-age kidnapping tale about the power of perseverance, Lolita, originally done with Hayley Mills and later remade with Lindsay Lohan.
Nabokov's extremely controversial literary classic that has defined the idea of the unreliable narrator is Father's Trap, from the perspective of a man who plots to obtain custody of both of his daughters for nefarious purposes. Most publishers ignored Nabokov's instructions not to depict the twins, Lisa and Lottie, on the cover. Stanley Kubrick and Adrian Lyne have directed mediocre film adaptations, and songwriting team Lerner and Loewe did a musical that was a legendary flop.
The Japanese fashion movement is Gothic Pollyanna, after an otherwise-forgotten series of penny dreadfuls about a cute, cheery, rules-minded young girl who is, despite appearances, an insane criminal. Minor character Bonesaw in Alan Moore's Worm Turns also clearly hearkens back to the Pollyanna stock character.
The DEA was a prime-time soap opera about the ongoing "war on drugs"; it ran for eleven seasons from 1982 to 1993. Its plot focused on federal agents working at the Drug Enforcement Administration office in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and especially partners Hank Schrader and Steve Gomez and their families. It is mostly remembered today for its downer ending (in which the treachery of late-show villain Walter White, or "Heisenberg", gets the leads killed, and he escapes from justice), and for its far-more-acclaimed spinoff series Better Call Saul, which also ran for eleven seasons from 1993 to 2004, functioning as a prequel, midquel, and sequel to The DEA.
Between The DEA and Better Call Saul, Kelsey Grammer played crooked lawyer Saul Goodman for twenty consecutive years of primetime TV, first as featured comic relief and later as a leading man. (He also guest-starred on the mostly-forgotten Mall Cop, establishing that it, too, was set in the world of The DEA and Better Call Saul.) Better Call Saul won more than a dozen Primetime Emmys. Peri Gilpin received several of these for her performance as Kim Wexler.

St. Elsewhere was a film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan in the late 1990s; it was highly acclaimed and successful, and established Shyamalan in the public eye as a skilled auteur with an affinity for twist endings. The film's final scene reveals that its main setting, St. Eligius Hospital, exists entirely within the imagination of an autistic boy, Tommy Westphall, as he gazes into a snowglobe. The so-called "Tommy Westphall Universe Hypothesis", which posits that this same twist applies to most of fiction due to a network of crossovers, was invented by a Saturday Night Live sketch shortly postdating the film's release, in which an amnesiac Charles McGill (from Better Call Saul) wakes up in St. Eligius, attended to by a cast of characters who are more concerned with their own nonexistence.
After rising to prominence as a writer, storyboarder, and composer for Pendleton Ward's Science Time (where she established the Summer/Jessica relationship that would come to define later seasons), Rebecca Sugar got to make her own cartoon, Henry Ichor. Set in a recently post-apocalyptic but strangely cheerful world, Henry Ichor concerns a young teenage boy who is conscripted as a mech pilot due to his rare and innate ability to link to the powerful Evangelion mecha. (His preferred Evangelion is eventually revealed to be a form of his late mother, the reason he can do this in the first place.) Henry turns out to be a vital asset in protecting humanity from the monstrous "Angels" that frequently threaten it, and is surprisingly emotionally mature for his age. However, the adults around him (especially his father, Gennady) frequently push him too far, especially considering his generally noncombative and pacifistic nature. There is much interpersonal drama and much singing about it, with a very vocally trained cast. After several seasons of slow buildup, the show was forced to suddenly rush to its ending in only a few (infamous) episodes after an arc where Henry had a romance with an Angel in male human form. Henry Ichor The Movie and an ensuing miniseries, End Of Henry Ichor, helped bring the show to a more thematically satisfying conclusion.
Although he has played a creative or consultant role in many animated projects, Alex Hirsch is best known for the one he was actually the showrunner for, Disney Channel's smash hit Sunnydale. Focusing on a small California town constantly plagued by supernatural threats, Sunnydale generally followed a simple monster-of-the-week format, but kept audiences on the hook with teases at a deeper underlying mystery. The show almost didn't get a season two, as Hirsch found working with Disney very tiring, but he was eventually persuaded; season two ran through the rest of Hirsch's ideas at a faster pace, and concluded the show with the leads graduating from Sunnydale High.
For a brief historical moment, Daron Nefcy's show, Ender vs. the Space Bug Army, looked like it would become the successor to Sunnydale, keeping Disney Television Animation prestigious after Sunnydale ended. However, though Ender drew in a big crowd, and lasted almost twice as long as Sunnydale, it was not ultimately as well-received. EvtSBA is a children's space opera, wearing its Starship Troopers (Joss Whedon) inspiration on its sleeve, but also clearly copying some (superficial) notes from Philip Pullman. Set in a future where mankind has come into violent conflict with bug-like aliens, the show follows unbearably smug boy supergenius Ender as he is sent to military school to prepare for interstellar warfare. The show has an extremely cutesy and hyperactive tone; typical filler episodes include the one (generally taken as meta about fandom drama) in which Ender's siblings' futuristic internet arguments prove instrumental to the survival of the human race. Later seasons get a bit more serious, but focus heavily on shipping. The show is infamous for its ending, in which Ender, for his final exam, destroys the Formics' home planet and releases a psychic signal that eradicates the Formic race. Although the show explicitly notes that this includes many individual Formics who we have previously known as sympathetic characters, it is nonetheless played as a happy ending in which a hostile colonial power is defeated. Ender has ended the war; he has beaten the Space Bug Army.
"Meugh-Neigh. 'Meugh' like the cat, 'neigh' like the horse." "Does it mean something?" "No answer; none at all."
Orson Scott Card is an extremely prolific author of speculative fiction. Although it isn't as close to his heart as the Steel Gear series, in which he got to flex his military sci-fi muscles and allegorically retell stories from his faith, he is undoubtedly best known for Ishtar's Curse. Initially a short story and later expanded into a full novel, the plot concerns young Princess Ishtar, or Star, heir to the heathen fairy kingdom of Meugh-Neigh. (In later novels, she changes her name to Bethlehem Diaz, or Beth.) Spoiled and destructive but magically talented, Star is sent to twentieth century Earth so she can develop the wits and the strength of character to be a viable wartime leader for her people - or at least so she can be kept out of the way. After several years of personal growth and magical misadventures with companions she met on Earth, a more grounded Star devises a spell to erase the magic that makes up the bodies of most of her throne's enemies. This plan works, and merges Meugh-Neigh into the Earth as a small and ordinary European country. However, though her subjects are eager to celebrate her for this, Star is devastated when she realizes that she has killed trillions of innocent spirits, and, seeking to atone, she takes on the title of Speaker for the Dead (also the title of the book's first sequel). Although it's frequently ranked highly in lists of fantasy novels of the twentieth century, Ishtar's Curse has received some harsh criticism, with the standard line being that Star is an idealized fantasy of a repentant Hitler figure, and that the text presents excessive justifications for her actions. The story has also been called a reactionary response to Wilde's The Little Mermaid. After more than twenty years, a film adaptation of Ishtar's Curse was released in 2009, starring Dakota Fanning, to mixed reviews. The box office took a further hit due to a boycott campaign, after Card's views on homosexuality (and, relatedly, his membership in the LDS Church) became widely known. In the end, it lost the studio a lot of money.
Hideaki Anno is best known for the classic smash hit anime he made for Studio Gainax, Einstein Goliath Nestorian, a psychologically intense deconstruction of martial arts shonen like Yoshiyuki Tomino's Dragon Ball. Einstein Goliath Nestorian concerns a mystery man known only as Saitama, who finds that he has become dissatisfied with life and alienated from the world after only three years of training have enabled him to easily surpass any physical challenge. The original series is known for its sudden, surreal, and clearly budget-driven ending, although this was quickly alleviated with a similarly surreal but more definitive finale movie. Although many Western anime fans often think of Einstein Goliath Nestorian as pretentious and ultra niche, it was actually a huge mainstream hit in Japan, with a colossal franchise of adaptations, merch, and spinoffs (notably including a series of Retrain films, which began as extremely close shot-for-shot remakes of the original series but wound up spiraling into a very different updated timeline).
Previously most noteworthy for his 2003 visual novel Oreimo, Gen Urobuchi was tapped by Shaft for their extremely successful and acclaimed anime Ohayou Hana!, hailed as a deceptively dark deconstruction of the teen idol genre. The plot concerns a girl, Saionji Mayuri, who leads a double life, being of little note at school, out of costume, but spending much of her time as #1 idol Hana. Her mental stability begins to deteriorate as she realizes that the adults in her life - especially her father, himself a former idol - have groomed her to serve as a drugged and hypnotized propaganda mouthpiece for a shadowy conspiracy. She winds up in the worst of both worlds as her ensuing breakdown, and her handlers' response to it, destroys both of her lives and brings ruin to those she cares about. In addition to the popularity of the actual anime, many of its songs became decontextualized J-Pop hits. The idol anime genre would then receive a glut of edgy lesser imitators, like Love Live: School Idol Project, Cheetah Girls, and magical girl fusion Symphogear. Although the original Ohayou Hana! was a self-contained twelve-episode story, it received a sequel movie shortly thereafter, Ohayou Hana! Rebel!, which ended on a cliffhanger that has still not been resolved over a decade later. The upcoming Ohayou Hana! MK Ultra! is expected to get things back on track. An abridged series originating on 4chan, focusing on cropped screencaps from Ohayou Hana!, called the title character "Miss Ohio", producing the memetic tagline "being Ohio is suffering".

Zack Snyder first came up with the idea for Madoka around 2000, a long time before he'd actually get to make it; he put the project on hold in 2006 to make his adaptation of Worm Turns. He developed the idea with his wife Deborah and a cowriter, Steve Shibuya. Inspired by the Disney Princess phenomenon, as well as Naoko Takeuchi's Pretty Cure (one of the few anime that had already become a hit in the States), Snyder wanted to tell a coherent story about fights between magical girls who could make anything happen, who could make any fantastical world or visual appear. In Snyder's film, we follow Madoka Kaname, a teenager attending a Catholic school in Los Angeles. Madoka and her friends are approached by a strange young woman who goes only by "Mommy", and her animal companion (a CGI-ed up squirrel-cat thing), QB. They offer to make the teens into "magical girls", granting them one wish each in exchange for a life devoted to spiritual warfare. (Another mysterious new girl, Lilly, urges them not to take the deal in the strongest possible terms.) This turns out to be a scam; QB is pitting the magical girls against one another for his own reasons, and in the end, every magical girl and her wish gets corrupted. Despite much of the film's plot being a horrific bloodbath - the MPAA demanded a lot of cuts to get it down to a PG-13 rating - there is a happy ending; Madoka finally makes her own wish and uses it to topple QB's whole system. Madoka isn't often discussed nowadays but it was a major discourse bomb when it came out in 2010, alternately being called misogynistic Orientalist trash and a subversive feminist masterpiece. Snyder, for his part, often notes that QB is intended as an allegory for exploitative forces within the entertainment industry that treat young women as disposable resources with an expiration date; this is already clear to anyone who's watched the film, which is not exactly subtle in its symbolism. He also explains that the film sexualizes the girls in an effort to shame the audience, to get people to understand that they are objectifying the characters in the same way that QB does. The soundtrack's got a really cool ethereal cover of Nine Inch Nails' King Nothing on it, which is probably the most remembered part of the film today.
Selena Gomez became a star by playing Violet Parr on Disney Channel's superhero sitcom The Incredibles. While the show was initially a very throwaway villain-of-the-week affair whose leads had to keep their powers hidden from the public and their caped escapades secret from the government for self-explanatory comes-with-the-genre reasons, it would eventually unfold that the show was set in something of an X-Men-style dystopia where superheroism had been outlawed and supers oppressed by the government as a potential societal fifth column.
Brad Bird directed one of Pixar's most celebrated films, Wizards of Waverly Place; it was Pixar's first film with a predominantly human cast. Disney was hungry for a fantasy property after losing a bidding war for the Luz Noceda rights. It had strong populist anti-eugenic themes, with an elaborate wizarding hierarchy of antagonists who seek to remove the Russo family's magic as part of an effort to curb wizard overpopulation. The sequel came more than a decade later, and wasn't nearly as good.
In addition to Worm Turns, Alan Moore is notable for the heavily metafictional comic Pagemaster, about a boy, Richard, who finds a magical library that contains all stories that have ever been or could ever be told; he becomes lost and imperiled in assorted pieces of historically noteworthy literature (initially ones in the public domain, though later volumes would start using legally safe serial-numbers-filed-off versions of modern stories). The 2003 film, in which Sean Connery played the librarian in one of his last film roles, is widely regarded as a terrible, deeply-toned-down adaptation that didn't grasp the tone or themes of the original story at all; it only covered the first half of the first volume, in which Richard meets "genre spirits" who wish to sort all stories into rigid categories. In a later volume, Pagemaster Millennium, an aged Richard Tyler, who has since taken on the mantle of librarian himself, meets a teenage girl, heavily implied to be Luz Noceda, who has also become lost in the library. She has become corrupted by an eldritch book, or "Necronomicon", written by "the Wrong Author", heavily implied to be the devil (and/or Hugo Astley, an Aleister Crowley caricature from W. Somerset Maugham's The Winged Bull). Flushed with demonic power and enraged by what she's become, a monstrous Luz tears through the library in a blaze of hellfire, seeking to destroy all of literature and the world. It is only through the intervention of the Fat Controller - heavily implied to be God - that Luz is defeated; he mercifully erases her by hitting her with a train, and laments what she became.

Phantom waking up in a cranky mood (probably because he was playing all night) and going to Swiss all teary eyed and whiny with his pacifier clipped to his shirt
When Phantom woke up it was still dark. That didn’t matter though, no amount of darkness would help the throbbing in his temples behind his eyes. He screwed his eyes closed, the pain was almost blinding. He rolled over, pulling his bat plush to his chest and curled up in a ball, whimpering as the pain seemed to increase as he moved. He sniffles, feeling tears welling in his eyes and he wishes he hadn’t gone to sleep alone tonight, he wished desperately that there was someone, anyone, with him he could curl up with and cuddle and they could make him feel better.
He sniffles again and whines when the pain didn’t ease at all in the next couple of minutes. He’s just about to call out for help when he remembers that Swiss’ room is just next door to his. He doesn’t need to wake the whole pack up he can just scurry across to Swiss. Swiss will help him.
The only dilemma to going to Swiss is room is he has to face the darkness of his room and the dark creepy hallway. He lets out a pained whine feeling his ears pin back in fear. He peers into the endless black of his room, clutching his bat to his chest so hard he can feel the clip of his pacifier dig into his chest. He has to be brave. Papa and the other ghouls always tell him how brave he is all the time so he can do this. If he’s quick he’ll only be in the darkness for a few seconds and then he’ll be with Swiss. And Swiss will always protect him, he said so himself.
He jumps from his bed, the pain in his head ignored over the fear of the darkness. Or what’s in the darkness. He lets out a squeak at the thought of a creature that might me hiding among the shadows, with glowing red eyes and sharp claws ready to snatch away any little ghoul that it finds.
He lets out a sob at the thought and burrows his gave into his bats soft fur, hoping that if he can’t see the monsters they won’t be able to see him. He pulls his bedroom door open and steps into the hallway. It’s cold, colder than his room with no fireplace to heat it. He shivers, peaking out from over his bat to scan the hallway for monsters. There’s no glowing eyes, just an endless void of black. He scampers quickly along the wall until he finds the door to Swiss’ room, not giving the monsters anytime to realise here there. He opens the door and slams it behind him way too loud for the time of night that it.
Swiss’ room was also dark. Oh no. He’d forgotten about that. But he could hear Swiss breathing and could see a vague Swiss shape on his bed in the darkness. It soothes him a little knowing he’s no longer alone.
“Swiss?” He calls out into the darkness. Swiss doesn’t stir. “S-Swiss?” He called out again, the name catching on his throat as he feels more tears roll down his cheeks.
There’s a shuffle of the bed covers along with a groan as Swiss turns over and peers into the darkness.  “Tommy?”
Phantom let’s out a sob and he stumbles forwards, tripping over something as he goes. He lets out a scream, running towards Swiss.  “Swiss, Swiss, daddy, it got me. Please don’t let it get me.”
Swiss sits up just in time for Phantom to crash into him. Swiss pulls him into his lap, wrapping his arms around him and running his hand down his back as Phantom wraps his legs around his waist and buries his head in his neck.  “What is it, babybug? What got you?”
Phantom whimpers, pushing his face deeper into Swiss’ neck. “The monster.”
Swiss frowns, placing a kiss to the top of Phantom’s head.  “Monster? What monster, baby?”
“The one that lives in the dark.” Phantom mumbles into his neck, rubbing his cheek against Swiss’ scent gland.
“Baby, there’s no monster up here. The closest thing we have to a monster here is Papa Nihil.”
Phantom giggles before he sits up and looks at Swiss.  “But it touched me.”
“I think that was a shoe, darling.” Swiss runs a hand through Phantom’s hair. “My rooms a little messy, I haven’t had time to clean it for a while.”
Phantom rests his head back on Swiss’ shoulder, nosing at his scent gland again.  “Oh.” He giggled again. “Just a shoe.”
Swiss sits back against the headboard pulling a phantom with him. The smaller ghoul curls up in his lap, resting his head on Swiss’ chest so he can listen to his heartbeat. Swiss cards his fingers through Phantom’s hair making the ghouls sigh and lean into his touch.  “What’s got you awake so early, babybug? Nightmare?”
Phantom shakes his head.  “Head hurted.”
“Oh my poor baby.” Swiss kisses the top of his head again. “Does it still hurts?”
Phantom let’s out a whimper, now the distraction of the monsters has gone he remembered the pain in his head.  “Yeah, daddy.”
“Oh my poorly boy.” Swiss shuffled down so he’s lying back down and pulls the covers up to cover the both of them. “You want me to help with it? I know my quintessence isn’t that strong but I think I can handle a headache.”
Phantom snuggles deeper into Swiss’ chest. “Yes please, daddy.”
Swiss massages at Phantom's temples with two of his fingers, channeling the little quintessence he has through his fingers. Phantom relaxes almost immediately, his jaw going slack as he lets out a little moan in relief.
“That feel good, darling?” Swiss smiles down at the ghoul, watching him snuggle his bat to his chest.
Phantom hums in reply, his eyes fluttering closed    . He starts to feel tired now that the pain in his head is slowly starting to disappear thanks to Swiss. He starts to chew on the wing of his bat not realising what he’s doing, finally feeling comfortable.
Swiss tuts lightly at him, pulling the wing out of his mouth.  “Don’t chew on that, babybug. It’s not good for you.”
Phantom whines and pouts up at Swiss.  “Daddyyy.”
“Here you have this.” Swiss pull the clip attached to his shirt finding Phantom’s pacifier on the end. He taps it against Phantom’s bottom lip and pushes it into his mouth when he parts his lips.  “See? That’s better, huh?”
Phantom thrills as he sucks the pacifier, his eyes feeling suddenly incredibly heavy.
“Go back to sleep, bug. It’s still so early we’ve got more time to sleep.” Swiss continues to rub at his temples. “And in the morning I’ll make you breakfast, anything your little belly wants.”
Phantom thrills again and snuggles his bat closer into his chest and he cuddles deeper into Swiss. It doesn’t take long for him to drift back off to sleep, a deep purr rumbling through his body.

Pillows were laid out, blankets were ready for use, snacks were prepared and everyone was in their comfiest pajamas. Alpine was snuggled up to Henry and Lottie was snuggled up against you.
🎶 “Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long.
If you’re going my way
Well, I wanna drive it all night long.”🎶 The three of you sang along to the movie.
“Can habe mo’ mama?” Lottie lifts up the bowl you’d used for popcorn.
“Sure thing, Sweet Angel. Do you want some more bubs?”
“Yes please.”
“I’ll be right back.” You grab the bowl and your phone and head to the kitchen.
After throwing a bag of popcorn into the microwave you look at your phone. There’s some messages in your family group chat but none from Bucky. You’re itching to text him just to give him encouragement. This has to be incredibly difficult for him, it would be for you too. These were the people that had a hand in creating his kids. In abusing and hurting them with the hopes of creating monsters.
The microwave beeps letting you know that it’s done. You turn your attention to that instead and decide that Bucky doesn’t need a distraction.
Tumblr media
There was a weight on your midsection and a second later a blood curdling scream. That woke you up with a start. When your eyes adjusted to the darkness you realized Lottie was sitting on top of you. Her hands were gripping your shirt hard enough to rip it. You were disoriented for a moment before you remembered you had been in the living room watching tv and must have fallen asleep. Another sob from Lottie gets your attention. She’s panting as she calls out for you over and over again.
“Shh it’s ok sweet Angel, mama’s right here.” You sat up and brought your knees up to lay her back as you tried to sooth her.
“Bubba, bubba.”
“I’m right here Lottie. You’re ok, you’re safe.”
“Mama?” Henry’s sleepy voice breaks your focus for just a moment as you look at him. Alpine curled up in his back as she slept. “What’s wrong?”
“I don’t know honey, maybe she’s having a vision.”
“Mama.” Charlotte cried this time and then her eyes shifted to look straight at you. It felt more like she was seeing through you.
“Hey baby, you’re ok. What did you see? Can you tell me?”
“Mama.” She said with a hiccup. Her hands were on your temple and she put her foreheads to yours.
****
The morning light peaks through the curtains as Lottie opens her eyes slowly. With a yawn and stretch she sat up and  admired her Barbie pajamas. There’s a teddy bear snug in her arm and she’s  sitting in a pile of pillows. When she looks to the side she finds Henry sleeping with Alpine snuggled up on his back. When Lottie looks towards the kitchen she sees you moving around. As best she can, Lottie stands with the intention of making her way to you.
“Warning. Incoming projectile. Warning. incoming projectile.” Friday announced.
Metal blinds start to lower over the windows and Lottie whimpers, scared of what’s going on.
“Henry, Charlotte.” She heard you calling them and running toward the living room.
You barely make it to them and throw yourself over their smaller frames when a blast rings throughout the room.
****
There was ringing in Lottie’s ears as she began to regain consciousness. There’s rubble and smoke and small fires springing up in the living room. Through crying and coughing Lottie sits up. Your arm is thrown over her but your eyes are closed.
“Mama?” Lottie calls you but you don’t stir.
She pulls herself from your grip and she winces when she gets up. Her once pink pajamas are now crimson. When she lifts up her top there’s an ugly gash on her belly.
“Mama no seeping.” She shakes you but still no response. “Bubba?”
Lottie looks over at her brother and begins to cry. He lays next to you, lifeless. His eyes opened and glazed over with blood around his mouth and nose. There was a bang at the door and then another.
“Mama, Mama.” Lottie shook you, crying as she called out your name.
A group of men all dressed in black, a red skull with tentacles emblazoned on their uniforms barge in. One of the men grabs Charlotte. She tries to wiggle, punch and kick her way out of their hold but to no avail, she's carried out while she cries and tries to reach for you in hopes that you will save her.
Tumblr media
You gasp as you pull away from Lottie’s hold. Her bottom lip trembles as she looks at you.
“Oh my sweet Angel it’s ok. I’m going to keep you safe. I’ll do anything to keep you safe.” You pull her into your chest and rub her back until she calms down.
“What happened mama?”
“She just saw something bad. But now I know what it is and we can make it better.” You kiss the top of Lottie’s head and then pull Henry to your side. “I need your help sweet boy. I need you to go and change out of your pjs and into outside clothes and shoes.”
“Ok Mama.”
Henry gets up and runs to his room while you get up and go to Lottie’s. She clings to you and you have to reassure her that nothing is going to happen. After finally getting her dressed you change into something more suitable.
“Let’s go Henry.” You call out from the door, he runs to meet you with Alpine in his arms. You smile at him and let him walk out first before looking at your apartment for what may be the last time.
“Mama.”
“Yes sweet Angel?”
“Bad men coming. Want dada.” Her usually bright and happy eyes are now full of concern and fear and it kills you.
“Yes they are, but mama is going to keep you safe until daddy gets back.”
Tumblr media
“Hill.” You call out as you burst through the command room doors with Henry and Charlotte following close behind.
“Y/L/N, now is not a good time.”
“You can’t get a hold of them can you?”
Hill looks from one of the monitors to you with a furrowed brow. She nods towards an empty office and you follow her in with the kids.
“How did you know?”
“This is what happened on my first mission after we found Charlotte, remember?”
“They’re flying into a trap.” She says.
“Not necessarily a trap but a distraction.”
“What do you mean?” She crosses her arms over her chest.
You explain everything you saw in Lottie’s vision, giving as much detail as possible. Some parts make Lottie upset again but you have to get them out anyway. It’s not just yours and the kid’s lives that are at stake, Tony doubled the agents while they left for your protection but if Hydra was able to get in quickly that means they had the firepower to get through anyone.
“And they’re after the kids?”
“It seemed like it.”
“We have to do something.” Hill sighs. “We can’t just evacuate, they could have eyes on us right now, but you have to leave.”
“I have a way to get out.”
“But where will you go?”
“The tower. Tony reinforced it after Loki’s attack on New York and Hydra won’t think we’d go there.”
“We tell no one, the less people know the better your chances of getting out safely.”
“And the team?” You ask, since the vision you haven’t been able to stop thinking about Bucky. When he gets back he’ll think the worst and it’ll kill you to not be able to let him know right away that you and the kids are ok.
“I’ll let Bucky know of the plan and have him meet you there.” Maria gives you a reassuring smile. “As for the rest of us, we'll prepare to give Hydra a fight when they walk through those doors. That should distract them enough so that you can get away.”
“Thank you Maria.”
For the next hour you and Maria make a plan to fight back and an exit strategy. If anything goes wrong from the compound to the tower you are going to need someone to know more or less your backup plan.
“Stay safe, I’ll see you soon.”
With a nod you leave and take the kids with you. You head back to your apartment to grab some last minute things. Their teddy bears and favorite blankets, things that will give them comfort and then you head straight for Bucky’s personal garage. Tony had set it up after you gave him the motorcycle for father’s day. Bucky happens to keep another car in there. One he prepared for something like this. It held supplies for the four of you, and Alpine. It was fitted with weapons and bullet proof everything but no tracking system that anyone could hack. Bucky had started working on it shortly after finding Henry. He always told you Hydra wouldn’t give them up so easily.
****
The kids were buckled in and Charlotte had finally fallen asleep. Henry sat quietly next to her, holding her hand for comfort. You sat in the driver's seat, completely alert of your surroundings. The car was parked in the woods of the compound. Close enough to see the main building but still hidden from prying eyes. There were agents going on with their early morning routine but considering they were armed to the teeth you knew Maria had gone through with an emergency briefing.
As soon as the first rays of sun peeked over the horizon you turned the car on and started to drive off. It wasn’t until you got to a private, lesser known entry point that you heard it.
The explosion.
You’re still not sure how Charlotte managed to show you her vision but the thought of you not being able to protect them brought tears to your eyes. Soon enough in the distance there was gunfire and more explosions and you picked up speed to get as far away as you could. It was easy to leave the compound with the fight going on.
You don’t look back, your focus is to get to the tower.
****
You had just gotten into the city. Hopefully you'll be able to get to the tower soon and it would be easier to keep track of what was going on at the compound from there. You could also keep an eye out for the team from the tower. During the drive down you kept a police scanner going so that you could be aware of any accidents or closed roads so that you could change directions easier.
What you heard was much worse.
There was an amber Alert out for the kids and your description as the kidnapper along with a description of the car you were in. Police were advised to use any force necessary to bring you down. Of course Hydra would still have some people within police departments to use at their will.
“Fuck.”
“Mama what’s wrong?” Henry asked from behind you.
“We can’t go to the tower baby.”
“Where are we gonna go then?”
“To see the only person I can trust right now.” You look at him through the rear view mirror.
As soon as you can you get back on the highway and head up north. It’s risky to be on the highway but you’d rather the highway where there are witnesses than a backroad where there would be no one and hydra could definitely get you there.
“Mama.”
“Yeah sweet boy?”
“There are cars following us.” Henry says. “They have been for a few minutes now.”
“Are you sure?” You look at your side and rear view mirrors to get a look at the cars.
“Yeah, they’ve changed lanes when you have and they change their speed when you do.”
“Fuck.” You hit the steering wheel. The last thing you need is a gunfight on a highway.
You decide to lose them and swerve among the cars until there is enough distance between you and them. Through the traffic you manage to get some distance and you don’t stop until you come to a traffic jam. Your heart is beating out of your chest as you have to slow down. The police scanner goes off talking about a small accident. You flick your wrist and make a way for your own car.
You’re creating more distance and you’re past the accident. Cars are clearing out of your way as you speed down the highway when a car comes speeding up behind you. You take a deep breath and prepare to make a move at the right moment. With another flick of your wrist you manage to make the other car flip. Unfortunately you now have about four SUVs on your tail again and a crying Lottie who woke up from the noise.
Henry grabs the gun from your bag sitting on the passenger’s side and then the suppressor. He puts them together and checks for bullets.
“Henry, give me that. It’s not a toy.”
“I know it’s not a toy mama. I can help.” He says and then he disappears.
His window rolls down. With one arm wrapped around his seatbelt Henry leans out of the window.
“Henry, get back in your seat, please baby.” You call out but you can’t do much other than weave through traffic and try to stay steady.
A shot goes off and out of the side mirror you see one of the SUVs swerve off course and hit a barrier. With three more quick shots Henry has effectively stopped Hydra from pursuing you, for now at least.
Tumblr media
“Are you ok sweet Angel?” You ask as you hug Charlotte.
“Am scared. Want dada.”
“I know sweet Angel, me too.” You smooth out her hair.
Her now thick and healthy and shiny black hair that fell just to her shoulders. It grew quickly but that’s what the serum’s doing. She had grown so much in the very few short months since you’d found her. Lottie looked like a whole different child. So did Henry. They had both gained a healthy amount of weight, their cheeks were rosy, they smiled easily, and they knew what love was. Now all of that was in danger and you felt helpless in all of it by not having Bucky at your side. He would know what to do and where to go.
“It’s ok baby we’re safe with mama.” Henry said from his seat next to you.
You had the SUV parked in a wooded area away from street views and roads. The kids needed a break and so did you. Besides, you were already where you needed to be, you were in your hometown.
“Where are we going after this?”
“We are going to meet up with your dad.”
“An Steebie?”
“Yes and Steebie.” You tell Charlotte and smile.
You glance at the clock on the car radio and sigh.
“Ok guys, stay here and Henry, keep yourself and Charlotte invisible until I get back. Can you do that?”
He nods. You lean forward and kiss his forehead and then Lottie’s. She moves to sit with her brother. Henry holds her hand and then they’re gone from your sight.
You run to where you need to be and make it to the edge of the forest easily. There at the edge you stand behind a tree and watch. A few cars pass by the small road but your eyes are on the building across the street. When you see who you’re waiting for you step out so that you can be seen.
“Y/N, what the hell are you doing here?” Your dad asks as soon as he gets to you. It didn’t take him long to spot you and he ran over.
“Dad.” You sob as he hugs you, pulling you away from the street.
“What’s wrong?”
“I need your help.”
“What is it? Was it Bucky? Did he hurt you? Because I’ll kill him if he did.” He says as he pulls away from you.
“No dad, he’s on a mission. It’s hydra.”
“The people that hurt him and the kids?”
You nod. “Come on.” You lead him back to the SUV and explain everything on the walk back.
“What do you need me to do?”
“I need you to take the kids back to the city, to the Avenger’s tower specifically.”
“What about you?”
“Hydra thinks I have the kids so I’ll let them believe that. I’ll lead them as far away as possible to give you a chance to get to the tower. Maria Hill will be there and hopefully so will the team. The kids will be safer there.”
“And then what?” Your dad asks but you can see that he already knows the answer.
“You send the team to come get me but not Bucky. The kids are going to need him and you tell him I said that.” You say as you get to the car. The door opens and the kids jump out.
“Gwandpa.”
“Grandpa.”
Eddie gets on one knee and hugs the kids. You take a deep breath to try and calm yourself before you cry in front of the kids.
“Will you do this for me?”
“Of course I will kitten. Are you sure you can’t just come with us?”
“It’ll be safer for them if I lead the men following us away.”
“Ok. I have some old military buddies that will drive down with me for extra protection. We’ll get them there.” Eddie pulls you in for another hug.
The realization hits you. This might be the last time you ever see him again so you hug him tighter. When you pull back you see tears in his eyes and you give him a sad smile before turning to go back to the SUV. You grab the kids’ backpacks and Alpine and you give them to your dad.
“I’ll give you a minute.”
You kneel in front of the kids. First you bring Charlotte in for a hug. You kiss her temple and hum a lullaby to calm her down from the small sobs that are starting to escape her.
“Mama, bad man take you.” She declares with tears in her eyes.
“It’s ok. I love you so much baby. You are so smart and good, sweet, funny. You’re always going to be my sweet Angel.”
“I lobe you mama.” Charlotte says before kissing your cheek. “Best mama.”
“Go with grandpa and be good, ok.”
You watch as Charlotte runs to your dad and hugs him. Then you turn your attention to Henry.
“C’mere.” You stretch out your hand for him to take but Henry throws himself against you, his arms wrapped around your neck and he cries. “It’s ok baby. Everything will be just fine.”
“I can go with you. I can keep you safe mama.”
“I’ll be just fine.”
“You can’t go, you can’t leave us.” Henry cries harder.
“I’m not leaving you.”
“But baby said the bad men take you. They’re going to hurt you if they do.”
“I know but I can change that now that I know what’s supposed to happen. Listen to me.” You pull away and hold him by his shoulders before cupping his face and wiping tears away. “I need you to go with grandpa and Lottie ok. I need you to keep them safe, you have to keep your baby safe. Can you do that for me?”
“Yes.”
“Good. I love you so much my sweet boy. I know this is scary but we’ll see each other soon and this will all just be a nightmare.” You kiss his cheek. “My sweet, brave, kind boy. Tell your dad that this wasn’t his fault ok? Whenever you see him sad.”
“Ok.”
“Go with your grandpa and keep Charlotte safe ok.”
He nods again. With his head down Henry walks towards Eddie. He puts on his backpack and takes Alpine in one hand while holding Lottie’s in the other. He fades in and out as they walk away from you.
Then you turn and get in the car. You already know your fate, hydra takes you. But you’re willing to give yourself up if it means that Henry and Charlotte never have to face them again.

You’re pulled by your hair out of a tub of ice cold water. It feels like thousands of needles are pricking your skin. You try to take a breath and take a moment to look at your surroundings but you can’t. A few seconds later you’re dunked into water again. Your hands are tied behind your back and you have a few broken ribs as well as cuts, scrapes, maybe even a concussion and a dislocated shoulder. In addition to all of that they must have given you some type of sedative because it’s very hard to stay awake and stay focused. Hydra had caught up to you and they managed to get some type of explosive under the car. It was the only way they were able to get the upper hand. As long as the kids and your father got to the tower safely you didn’t care, you just hoped that Bucky wouldn’t blame himself.
You get pulled out of the water again and this time you’re dragged somewhere else. They force you onto your knees as you cough up water. Finally you can actually breathe. There are footsteps that stop right in front of you but you couldn’t care less as to who it is. Hydra is all scum and they’ll all die once Bucky and the team find you. Sharp nails dig into your cheeks as the person before you grabs your face and moves your head so that you’ll look at them.
“I had lost all hope that I could turn you into what you were meant to be.”
You stare incredulously up at your captor. Disbelief and anger surge through you but you only manage to say one thing.
“Mom?”

So I saw an instagram reel where this girl basically wrapped herself up in a blanket and tackled her boyfriend onto the bed while pretending to be a blanket monster (it was actually really cute). How do you think Az (plus whatever makes you’d like to add) would react to his mate doing that and basically smothering him with affection?
I think he would internally gush over it.
Especially if he were having a rough day, all he would wanna do is come home to his mate and be around you.
Even if he knows that you are a busy bee and getting decorations set up for upcoming Starfall, he would want to be in your presence, soaking in your aura.
And you would know how he is feeling. He tried to hide it all day from you by shutting down his side of the bond, but you know. You know Az. You know your mate and the love of your life. Even when he is sad or in a bad mood, he is still trying to protect you. Trying to protect your feelings and your good mood. Gods, you love him for it.
So... you decide to surprise him. He walks into your home silently toeing off his shoes, sending his shadows out to find out where you are but they come back empty. He glances through every room, the living room, the kitchen, the reading nook, your office, even his office. But no dice.
Finally, he makes his way to your bedroom where it is dark, the fae lights are off and the only night is coming into the room is from the moonlight peaking through the sheer curtains. "Love?" he calls out carefully, knowing you are probably playing one of your games with him. He trails into the room, wings spread out wide, shadows swirling around him silently listening for any peak of sound. You silently open the door to the towel closet in the hallway right behind where he is standing, paused looking for you in front of the bed. You have your warm wool blanket wrapped loosely around your shoulders and you just
BAM!
You just rocket into your mate, sending him straight into the soft mattress, snuggling into the space between his wings and kissing his back, wrapping your arms and blanket around him. "Some spymaster you are," you cackle into his shirt. Az groans softly at the force of your body slam before flipping you over and shoving his face into the junction of your shoulder and neck. "Hi lovey," you whisper into his ear, nibbling at the lobe as you shift the blanket to cover the both into a warm cacoon. "Missed you," he mumbles pressing soft kisses into your neck, moaning at the feeling of your hands running through his hair. You coo at him, "Missed you too baby," peppering kisses onto his forehead and his temples.
And that is how you spend the rest of the night, massaging his scalp and peppering kisses onto every exposed surface of your mate. He silently basks in your affection, clutching at your waist and hips anytime you suck a sensitive spot. He feels so utterly loved and lucky to have a mate like you, and he wants to spend the rest of his life making you feel the same way.

I really enjoyed The Eye of Darkness, once again each book that starts out the era is a real banger that has a lot of impact for me, I think this is probably my favorite book for Marchion Ro so far, a character who has felt a little too inscrutable for me up to this point. He could have easily fell into the role of saying he wants to "govern" people but really wants to rule with an iron fist, but nah that guy straight up doesn't want to fit into Republic-style politics or machinations, he just wants to do what he wants to do, this whole thing is about his ego/entitlement complex, in a lot of ways. His dynamic with Ghirra Starros was one I actively looked forward to, because so much of this plot was shaped by feeling like it was a palette swap of the Republic versus the Separatists, that on the surface it was being framed as seceding from the Republic, but really it was occupation. But I felt like this book helped shake off some of that, where they went in a direction where instead this guy is just The Strong Shall Prevail And I'm Strong So I'll Do What I Want and Marchion genuinely sticks to that. It doesn't matter what Ghirra could win for him via politics, he doesn't want that. He's starting to spin out and he clearly doesn't have a real plan, he just wants to fuck things up, but I found that really refreshingly fun here. (I think the way Marc Thompson reads him contributed a lot to that, too. He nicely captures the unhinged aspect of Marchion.) I enjoyed Avar's story a lot, how conflicted she felt and how badly that was affecting her connection to the Force. I hope that this isn't where her difficulty with her internal struggle ends, because The High Republic 2021 comic really had some great moments about how she was having trouble letting go of her anger and fear, and it's not that I want her to nearly fall to the dark side, but that I want the resolution to extend a bit beyond that the Force feels clear and coherent to her again. And It was nice seeing Bell's internal thoughts again, giving him time to work through his feelings, as he stumbles a bit and eventually manages to right himself. I wish Burryaga had gotten some character development, he was just kind of there to be a prop in Bell's story, but given that I love Bell so much, I'm not really mad about that. I'm also about a fifth of the way through Escape from Valo and it's about what I expected from the authors and that it's a junior novel, but I'm enjoying it! I enjoyed the comics, "The Monster of Temple Peak" and "The Nameless Terror" (the art is SO PRETTY), they're fun adventures, but I do wonder a bit of there's bigger plans for Ty Yorrick in Phase III, given how much she's consistently been around, but hasn't yet done a ton of intersecting with the main plot. Or is she just there because she's fun to write and they're trying to make this a big clockwork puzzle tapestry by including characters who are part of the story, just not the main story? I'd love to know what other people thought of any of this! And you should all tell me what you're reading/watching/playing right now, because I want to know how your Star Wars journeys are going!
