The Fool symbolises our instinctive nature and our ability to think laterally and creatively. The Fool does not split possible and impossible, close and distant, can have and can't have. It is the Fools eternal inquisitiveness and optimism which inspire those leaps of faith into the unknown. LWB. Many medieval woodcuts entitled “The Children of the Planets” depict the rule of the seven astrological planets over people and their professions. The Fool often appears among them depicted as a child of the Moon, in fact as a “lunatic.” In a Tarot deck he carries no number or alternatively a zero, maybe because he stood outside the social order. He was the homeless, placeless, often mentally ill person, cast adrift, frequently taunted by children and left to beg for charity. In some decks he is placed at the end of the card sequence, after card 21. He also plays a popular, central role in German medieval drama, which may partially account for his presence in the Tarot. Despite his outcaste station in life a witty Fool could sometimes find himself a niche at a medieval court, where, like King Lear's Fool, he could provide entertainment for his lord. Theoretically he was the one person immune from retribution for quips he made, but all too often he became a whipping boy, a scapegoat in effect. Indeed, in Tarot games he is frequently known as the Skys, the “Excuse,” an expendable card you may play to save a higher card you otherwise would be forced to sacrifice. He is powerless to take any other card, although in a few games he is considered the highest card of all. Our design is based on one created in 1761 by Nicholas Conver, a Marseilles card maker from southern France. Paul Huson. The Fool is an excellent symbol to use as a visual affirmation to enhance courage, risk-taking, and the creative expression that is needed to give birth to new parts of one's life. i don't want to become a rider! gabriel barked on their eighteenth birthday, standing up to the cruel bastard that was the king. and it was true-- dragons were magnificent beasts, it was true, but gabriel was nothing compared to mina when it came to not only the capabilities that a rider needed to succeed, but what he knew this actually was; another competition to see who was truly fit for the throne. you don't have a choice, boy! he had snapped back at him, making the prince's blood boil under his skin. those that didn't succeed became nothing more than forgotten dreams, and if he was being honest? he was sure that was what was to become of him. it wasn't the first time that a notable name had been humbled within the walls of the academy, and he was sure that 'gabriel dragola' was going to be nothing more than something for the history books, marring their family name. how wrong he was with that assumption.

he learned not only how to defend himself better than any training he had within royal grounds, but he learned companionship in the form of kay'reen banlyr, an optimistic boy from cardnoia. they were stationed in the same wing and hit it off instantly. to kay, he didn't see the prince-- he saw gabe, and that's something that he had never truly had before. kay'reen was someone who brought gabriel out of his shell when it came to combat, when it came to finding his footing in terms of actually being able to ride. and he would be lying he he didn't say that gabe looked upon him like he hung the moon. he wasn't of noble birth, no, but what he lacked in nobility he more than made up in heart.

live for the moment, not for the future; words he had come to live by in the walls of the academy that he had taken when it came to graduate upon the back of azem, the white drake. he placed kay'reen within a wing, one that he knew he could easily sneak off to see upon the wings of his own drake. but people didn't seem to care for the rider with the prince's favour. word was sent to him of the other's death, kay's dragon shrieking as its rider fell at the hands of jealous men. that was six years ago, and gabriel hasn't spoken the name of his lost love since-- it still hurts to think about, but he uses it as a teaching moment: people can, and will, go out of their way to wound you, it's how others perceive how their slights have wounded you that matters. although he ached inside, although he sobbed tirelessly in his room for weeks, no one saw. on the outside, he remained the perfect prince who mayhap looked a tad more tired than usual.

with the opening of the borders, he's optimistic as ever that this will be good for their nations. it has to be, right? he longs to learn as much as he can, especially of fae and their magicks whilst having a somewhat morbid curiosity when it comes to vampires. there's whispers amongst the castle, that the king isn't long for this world and in all honesty, gabriel couldn't care less should he live or die-- he's long past trying to vie for his approval. all he knows is that he does not want to wear the crown should he fall.

Hellooooo chicken! Hope you're having a good day. I'm a little lost on what to do with my path. See, I've read a lot of beginner witchcraft and spell books and done my own spells and it's been fruitful. But I've realised that even if it's pretty cool to use magic to make life easier, i wanna use witchcraft more for spiritual development? I'm an animist and i wanna commune with spirits of the natural world. Think plants and animals. But i..don't know how to? Like what am i actually supposed to do? Is it just talking to plants and animal bones? Do i make them offerings? What does it truly mean to WORK with them? Somehow no beginner book i read convered this. Also i should mention im not looking to get into ancestral work. So if im just not good at finding books then please drop recommendations or any resources. And thank you for being awesome love ya.

I think the problem you're facing is twofold.

The first thing is learning how to communicate with spirits. This is the only handy resource I currently have about direct communication; of course it can be done in may ways (communing through runes or tarot cards is a popular choice).

This right here is my take on the purpose of giving offerings (tl;dr: same reason my friend offers me tea when I drive over for a visit).

Spirit communication can be just talking to plants and animal bones. It can also be talking to the clouds, the sky, and the rain; the moon, sun, and stars; the ground itself, lakes and streams, a weed growing through the sidewalk.

"Working with" spirits means something else to everybody. One way I appreciate thinking about it is that "working with" spirits is the same way you "work with" the community you live within. In a small town, everyone has a role and everyone is known to each other. I want to be a good neighbor, so I work with my neighbors - I work with them to respect their boundaries, I work with them to assist with their needs, and I work with them so that they know how to help me feel included.

I think a good place to start is WHY you want to work commune with the spirits of the natural world. Do you seek information, power, friendship, community? Are you seeking familiars or helpers in spells?

Whatever you want out of the experience, start there. Just keep in mind that the spirits of the natural world have their own wants and needs too, of course :)

For me, "working with" spirits means a few things:

Acknowledging them, introducing myself to them, and making small talk when the occasion arises.

Reaching out to help them when I am able (suppose I'm friends with a local nature spirit which is considered a weed, and which the BF will kill if its in his lawn; I may strive to find a location where the "weed" can grow in peace, and nurture and protect it in that area).

Not making promises.

I'd hazard that not making promises is the #1 best advice I can offer on how to work with spirits. I mean ideally, I'd say "don't make promises you won't keep," but just not making promises is a safer bet.

I don't promise that I'll come back with such-and-such offering, or promise that I'm going to do some grand gesture. These things have their place and at times are appropriate and good. However, imagine having a casual chat with a new neighbor and they say, "I PROMISE YOU, I promise you I will visit you every week with a huge home-cooked dinner."

Before you made that promise, I'd be like, "hey, this is a cool person interested in talking to me, alright." And any time you show up for a chat or with a little gift I'm like "hell yeah."

But after you make that promise, your actions become expectations. "Oh, they didn't show up with my dinner? This is only the third week. I guess it was just a grand, false gesture to gain my trust. Oh well."

It's very fine for you to have your own interests and goals when working with spirits. In general I always encourage reciprocity, patience, and generosity when working with spirits. But it's fine if your main interest is in talking to them to gain information, or talking to them because you have a need to be connected. Those things aren't bad - it only becomes bad if you use the spirits as objects without respecting their personhood.

I currently don't have any good spirit working books that I recommend, unfortunately. In this area I am primarily self-taught.

On the other hand, if we consider one of the other names for this card, “Reward of Victory,” then the Chariot may also be interpreted as Fame (as opposed to Fortune which has a mightier place of its own) in addition to Victory in general. Sometimes a female allegorical figure of Fame is even depicted riding in the Chariot. And this is interesting—by its placement in the card sequence, slightly cynical and somewhat world weary perhaps, Fame is seen to triumph over Love! The Tower (french La Maison Dieu), Tarot de Marseille card. It was printed by Nicholas Conver in 1760 in Marseille. The Tower is the only Tarot card that refers to the complete collapse of someone's value system. The Tower always brings interruptions, instability, transformation and truth. When this card appears, a person can expect a change in their beliefs and established patterns. Symbolically this card is something to start with.
