I had never even heard of this magician woman before you started making art of her but I am oddly invested in your art of this funky little woman, she seems silly and goofy
no i know right. i had the same experience i was like "who the hell is this magician woman theyve got standing next to the justice league" and my partner was like oh Zatanna Zatara? everybody knows her (and she's IN the justice league)
shook me to my core. there was a sillygoofy magician the whole time i had never once heard of... now i'm so invested in her goofy shit. i'm glad my art is becoming a secondary source of infection ❤
optional: here's some things ive learned over the past 3 months
she was introduced as a weirdo in 1964. she's been weird and strange for 59 years and counting! next year will be her 60th anniversary #Hag
her whole gimmick is that she's a famous stage magician who also happens to be a real magician, which i think is very good
i think she joined the justice league in like 1978 or smthg shes Been Around
before i had the magician disease: no matter how much someone tried to explain her character to me, i couldn't grasp her. and now that i have first-hand magician disease: no matter how much i try to explain her to my partner, they can't grasp her. i think there's something aberrant about her. like she demands hands-on interaction to be truly perceived. but watch out for the spores
????
for a while she used to drag her Normal Manager around for magic adventures. his name was Jeff and i suppose he just took the constant near-death peril as part of the "managing a stage magician" job
some website once ranked her among the top 5 sexiest comic women, making her the highest-ranking DC character on the list #LetsGo #MagicianSweep
she's quite beloved and a pretty consistent feature but she doesn't get a ton of solo stuff 😔✌ but theyre reprinting her comic from 2010 next year woohoo happy 60th bitch
they forgot to really give her a power ceiling and her magic can pretty much do anything she can think of, so she's a consistent pain in DC's neck whenever she has to intersect with other characters and Big Serious Plots—but it's not like they can just leave her on the shelf entirely either
(i think powerscaling is fake & that "who would win a fight between x and y" is a fake question that depends on so much more than hard numbers, especially in a medium like comics. but i also think DC itself quite visibly feels a pressure to manage her + i think this quirk about her is extremely funny and i LOVE to see them try so hard to nerf their pesky magician)
in 2004 they made her part of a The Gang Commits Atrocities plot without really justifying Why she would do all that, and her next several years are Fascinating to watch as writers try to come up with various ways to make new sense of her character in light of it. until the whole dc comics continuity was wiped and relaunched in 2011, solving the problem by erasing the whole thing from canon (along with everything else)
the real crime of that whole incident? the '04 comic that started it wasn't even very good
she's listed on the DC Wiki category page for "Eldritch Blast"
currently serving time in the Justice League Dark branch department, which is where we keep all the weird grimy magic stuff so it doesn't get all over everything
for a second and not too long ago, the big leaguers exploded and died for a bit (long story also they got better) including zee. and they put a gigantic scary moving painting of her in the basement as a memorial. i think this is exactly what she would have wanted to be honest
this post
they should put her in the rwby crossovers more. she was in dc/rwby for a second but i want her in the damn movies. i think it'd be funny
i love her. that's what i've learned in the past 3 months

Dick ignores him, continuing to stare out the window. A chickadee perches on a tree branch to preen its feathers.
“I made some calls this afternoon. I’ve got the best people money can buy working on this. With a few years of physical therapy, you should be close to back at full mobility.” When Dick says nothing, Bruce moves to stand between Dick and the window, blocking his view. “I understand that what you’re going through is difficult. I get that. But I need some kind of feedback, here.”
Dick snorts, turning his venomous gaze to Bruce’s stupid face. “Yeah? You had no issue making my decisions for me before.”
Bruce scowls. These past days seem to have aged him ten years. “I’m not arguing with you about this. Leslie cleared you to go home on Tuesday. You’ll need to take it easy for a few weeks while the site heals, but it will do you good to be home. Your siblings are excited to see you.”
“I’ll bet they’re jumping for joy,” Dick says sarcastically. “Forgive me if I don’t join in.”

where peter planned to play video games with ned through the whole flight but fate decided to take another turn....
*A/N: this isnt related to far from home nor the ending of endgame, just pretend infinity and all the movies after didnt exist since i imagine pete 16 in here. i dont know why 16 i just like that age on him lmao, enjoy reading!*
pairing: peter x reader
status: strangerz (well sort of since they haven't talked to eachother but they're in the same school)
NOT PROOF READ BTW SO SORRY IF THERE ARE ANY MISTAKES
peter's POV
"the flight will be amazing! i heard they'd installed the new game we were talking about" i gushed to ned, excited for the whole flight to be filled with video games.
"im excited" ned stated practically jumping from excitement and i shook my head laughing
"OK CLASS!" Mr Harrington clapped his hands getting our attention "we're boarding the plane in a few minutes so pack your stuff and lets goooo" he pointed at our gate dramatically.
we walked to the gate, scanned our ticket and sat on our assigned seats, ned and i sat on the three seater, he took the window seat by winning a 3 round match of rock, paper, scissors *sighs angrily* and i obvious got the middle, kinda scared of who'll sit beside me though.
we had to wait for a few minutes, since we boarded the flight early. ned and i obviously started playing video games, too entranced by the small glowing screen infront of me i haven't realized a girl.
she hadn't really acknowledged me either because she looked tired, i cursed at the screen for losing the game too quickly and my dumb ass still didnt realize a GIRL, MY AGE, looking PRETTY FUCKING ADORABLE was sitting next to me. oh dear god.
after a couple more games and me being the most idiotic teenager known today for not looking at my right to see her  the flight attendant alerted us that the plane will take off so we the screen will freeze any moment. ned and i decided to sleep, it was very early in the morning and we need to rest if we plan on gaming most of the flight.
i closed my eyes and shifted a bit in my seat, and slept. the plain was moving at the time trying to find the best place to take off. i guess i was really tired that i havent felt someone sleeping on my shoulder.
i was peacefully sleeping still agitated from the uncomfortable seat but i heard a loud noise that frightened the life out of me and due to my spidey senses i sensed a hand on my right, so what did i do? i fucking held the hand. hard, may i add, from the fright.
i opened my eyes quickly and jumped a bit, turning around to see who's the stranger that i held hands with, startled as well. i sighed in relief knowing our plane was safe and it was just about to take off. but then i took a good look on the perso- her, took a good look on her, on her? OH MY GOD ITS A GIRL calm down peter and please dont scare her off. i couldnt stop looking at her and to my luck she was looking at me as well, but none of us spoke
i couldnt help but notice the small part of her y/h/c hair that was shown from her hood looked so shiny and smooth, her eyes were the most perfect shade of y/e/c. the extremely large hoodie looked so comfortable on her which made me think of her wearing one of mine, how big and long it'll look on her body sent butterflies to my stomach. she looked small, and precious so fragile yet she held her body confidently.
the voice of the flight attendant echoed through the speakers which made us both stop our trance of one another. even though the lady's voice wasnt scary it still frightened us. i mean no hate towards miss attendant she called me a cutie and gave me extra blankets
but coz we got startled again we held hands....again looking for the sources of the noise. we visibly relaxed once we realized what it was, looked at eachother and laughed, her laugh was angelic and soft, hands down the best sound ive ever head. she looked rather embarrassed from the encounter but i bet you a thousand dollars i look worse, i could practically feel the blood rush through my cheeks once she realized how long ive stared at her
"i- uhm i-im so sorry for sleeping on your shoulder, and- and holding your hand and stuff" she apologized, it only made me even more baffled by her. how could a voice match with a face so perfectly.
"no no its fine uhh i dont mind *nervous laugh* and for the hand thing i was the one who grabbed yours so i-i should be the one apologizing...im sorry" i rubbed the back of my neck. this is why i dont talk to girls, ever. well mj is an exception since shes like the closest thing i have to a friend other than my best friend obviously.
"i-im y/n, by the way" she lifted her hand properly introducing herself
"peter, peter parker" i shook her hand, it was nice feeling the warmth of her hand again. we probably held hands (for the third time today by the way) longer the we should have but who am i to say i was bothered. i definitely wasnt.
"nice to meet you peter" she smiled shaking our hands one last time then sitting it on her lap. scratch what i said about her gorgeous laugh, hearing her say my name was the best thing ive heard in my 16 year of existence. (her laugh is obviously the second best)
before i could ask anything else, the plane decided to finally take off. i adjusted myself to the seat, not turning to my right side anymore and closed my eyes trying to think of smiling puppies. ive been on a plane before, in fact a private one last year but that was it. this is my second time flying away from new york and i was a bit nervous.
y/n somehow noticed my sudden tense form, who am i kidding i looked like i was about to die coz of my nerves. and held my hand. and i immediately opened my eyes again, the feeling of her skin coming in contact with mine brought chills down my spine, good ones obviously
"you looked rather tense, is this ok?" she leaned into my ear so i could hear her. i looked at her confused on why she would want to help me but nodded as a reply. a smile crept on my face and i couldnt seem to take it off.  the take off went smoothly thank god. and ive occasionally squeezed her hand, usually when the plane made very loud sounds. but i made it! woohoo
i didnt know if i should stop holding her hand or not, even though i didnt want to. will she think im a creep? and if i did, will she think im rude? but i guess it didnt seem to bother her if she went back to sleeping. so i figured i should do the same
i shifted in my seat a couple of times trying to get the perfect comfy spot....nothing. this seat will be the death of m-
"you can sleep on my shoulder if you want" she whispered. "i figured since you let me sleep on yours which im very sorry about, you could sleep on mine" she smiled
"thanks, but i dont wanna bother you or make you uncomfortable"
"oh nonsense! my body is screaming right now cheering for me, well partially scolding at me for saying something risky like that to a good looking guy, its ok" she laughed, her eyes widened in shock from what she confessed. i smiled at her and rested my head on her shoulder
"you think im good looking?" i whispered playing with our fingers, i dont know when i got the sudden confidence but hearing someone like her think a loser like me is cute did something to me.
"shut up" she playfully shoved me and i laughed.
"are you from midtown?" i asked her
"no im from queens" she joked
"oh you're definitely from midtown" i chuckled, next thing i know i was having a normal conversation with me laying my head on a girl i just met like we knew eachother for years, it was nice to talk to a girl i potentially thought was cute instead of talking gibberish
she was very understanding and looked like interested into what i was saying, i was gonna skip my geeky side when she asked about what i like but to my surprise, she mentioned it when i asked her the same, she said she loves comics and likes watching sci fi movies. i asked her if she watched star wars and she said she didnt...yet.
"wanna uhm watch it together?" i played with her fingers absentmindedly nervous if she'd reject me.
"yeah sure" her eyes lit up like she was waiting for me to ask her that. we watched the movie in bliss, thankfully she liked it! and immediately said to put the second one. and surprise surprise, we finished it.
when the credits rolled in, i saw her yawning, shifting in her seat again, i decided to be bold so i lifted her head off my shoulder pulled the arm rest away from us, took a pillow and patted my lap. immediately after doing it i regretted it, she barely knows me, what the fuck peter.
"you sure?" she asked smiling a bit, she looked like she felt something giddy inside which made me feel at peace again and i nodded.
"good night" she whispered snuggling her head on my lap, i hesitantly put my arm over
"good night, y/n" and we fell asleep like how ned slept the whooole time i was talking to her, wow we have a lot to catch up on
bonus:
peters pov
i didnt know the whole plane (our class) practically gushed over my interaction with y/n, i know its been a while since i liked a girl but betty and the rest (including Mr Harrington) practically begged mj to take photos of us since she was the closest, not that she wouldnt have done it without them asking her....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*A/N: idk what this bonus was lmao but i had to add the school feeling happy for our boy pete*
have a wonderful morning/afternoon/evening/night!

Nightfall descriptions #3
Behavior
Let’s look closer at Nightfall’s story and her behavior through quotes. (Her Ring of Heroes episode dungeon gave me a lot to work on and clarified a few things.)
~~~~~
⭐ “Will you ever let up with your endless chirping?”
“Noisy lark”
Auditory sensitivity, note that Storm’s voice is brash and her tone is loud in gameplay.
~~~~~
⭐ “Well, you’re half right.” She grabs Stormblade’s feather.
Disregard for belongings and personal space, perhaps this is specific towards Stormblade. (This also counts as intimidation which is very suspicious so I’m going to add this *in canon).
~~~~~
⭐ “You’re still trying to brightside me?”
Bad experience with endless positivism, lowering your expectations to not be disappointed(?).
~~~~~
⭐ “I gave it my all...”
Takes failure hard- even in front of people she doesn’t want to show vulnerability to.
~~~~~
⭐ “I don’t need your pity.”
‘Pull yourself by the bootstraps’ mentality, OR, 'this is a bigger problem than my individual success'. Could also be her brushing off compassion from Spitfire’s side. (He said “I’m sorry that happened to you Nightfall, it must’ve been hard dealing with that”)
~~~~~
⭐ “My pride is not the pressing matter.”
“I merely entertained you with my tale to have time to piece the parts together.”
“If I had looked gloomy that noisy lark would’ve incessantly asked questions.”
“Chatty lark.”
Doesn’t like to talk about how she feels, protects herself by stalling for time.
~~~~~
⭐ “You dare compare me to these sorry creatures? Think what you want, but you will regret the day you did.”
'I’m going to prove you wrong’ & offended about her dark powers being seen as evil.
One of the things Nightfall has no problem facing is her dark powers. She is proud of her power, she has fun when she’s using them, and adopts a more active, verbal attitude, even saying a cheery “woohoo!”. I do not think her dark powers are a source of anxiety, but of confidence and even relief. Perhaps this is why she was down when she lost to the leviathan, thinking her powers should’ve been enough. She may be powerful, but still is one tiny dreadwalker, yet thought she should do (and suffer through) everything on her own.
~~~~~
⭐ "I'll help us all get back home."
Apart from calling the Academy her home, she distances herself from her Homeland, calling it "this town" and "Fogshadow Tower" (by its name) while Stormblade guesses she'd feel like it's her home. I have a feeling she's the only one standing between Fogshadow and the sea monsters, yet there's no feeling of community or belonging coming from her. "The citizens", "The people" not "My people". Perhaps part of what weighs on her and affects her mood so badly is that disconnection, or what's causing that disconnection.
To sum it up her mindset was, “I’ve always done this alone and I will keep doing it alone. I can help others but I don’t need other’s help.”
~~~~~
Why did I add *in canon?
(Scroll to the bottom of the previous description so you know what I mean).
Note about her ‘pessimism’:
Someone who doesn’t care wouldn’t apologize, which Nightfall does, more often than not. Nightfall’s anger or negativity isn’t void of guilt or self-awareness. What I see is her personal problems leaking out to her relationships.
Mental health issues (such as depression and PTSD) shouldn’t be ignored, stereotyped then left unresolved. But... Nightfall’s RoH episode tried leaving a hopeful ending for her & the team. It was still a bit rocky in terms of stereotyping, but more nuanced than in the comics.
A little help goes a long way
I managed to finish this fic just in time before the end of pride, woohoo!
Summary:
"Riza sighed and put her pastry down on the table. She looked him straight in the eye.
“I thought we had agreed, Colonel,” she said slowly, “on the fact that we do not have the same taste in women.” "
Roy is determined to find someone worthy of his Lieutenant.
"Other than that, I spend most of my time helping out at my father's metalworking company. Do you know Gordon Industry? "
A few seconds went by before Riza realized she had been asked a question.
She took a long sip of wine to hide her surprise and promptly turned her attention to the young man in the brown suit who stood beside her. Casually leaning against the counter of the bar, he held a glass of whiskey in his left hand, a cigarette on the other.
"No, I’m not familiar," Riza finally replied with a contrite smile. "But I have to admit that, um, metalworking isn’t really a passion of mine."
The young man’s eyebrow shot up in genuine surprise. “Really, you’ve never heard of us?”
Riza had been upfront, but obviously not enough: the boy launched into a detailed description of the business’ operations, while she leaned further into the counter as she attempted to drink her boredom away.
Around them, the air was buzzing with conversations. The bar area was dramatically overcrowded: to reach the dancefloor in the next room, one had to elbow its way through the crowd - Riza had almost dropped her drink twice already from being pushed around. A tape recorder in the opposite corner was screaming out a blaring jazz tune, and a thick cloud of cigarette smoke was already beginning to form on the ceiling.
The Labor’s Day party was certainly not the fanciest celebration of the year, but it was nevertheless one of Riza's favorites. On this day, she was truly off-duty: there was no information to gather or higher-ups to compliment, and no reports to make at the end of the night. Besides, it was a rare opportunity for the military to mix with the civilians of Central, which led to some interesting encounters.
Well, most of the time.
Riza nodded idly as the young man continued his monologue. She had exhausted her repertoire of polite ways to end a conversation: this man was either incredibly tenacious or splendidly oblivious. He had even followed her to the bar when, on the pretense of getting a drink, she had tried to sneak away! For the umpteenth time, Riza’s thoughts drifted to the gun that was strapped on her right tight – sadly not a serious solution. She sighed and rested her chin against her left hand, her elbow on the table.
"Lieutenant! "
The interjection snapped her out of her reverie immediately. She raised her head and looked over her shoulder to see the Colonel - who else - who was just emerging from the crowd.
Riza hadn't seen him since the start of the night; he liked to keep busy on this type of occasion. But he didn’t seem in the mood to party at the moment: his expression was tense and he didn't even have a drink in his hands. As the Colonel reached the bar, he placed a hand on the counter between Riza and the young man, turning his back toward him as if he hadn't noticed his presence.
"Lieutenant, we just heard back from Havoc," he told her with a tone as serious as his face. "Target's on the move; we need to go now."
It did not take Riza long to understand. Without skipping a beat, she put her drink down, grabbed her purse and let her face fall back to its usual, serious appearance.
"Got it, sir."
Roy turned around and began to walk away. She went to follow him until a hand grasped her shoulder.
"Wait!" It was the young man - of course - looking dumbfounded, as if he hadn't followed what had just happened. "Can I at least get your number?"
This time, Riza didn't bother to fake a smile. "Maybe some other time."
With that, she twisted out of his grasp and ran after the Colonel who had already disappeared into the crowd.
She caught up with him as he exited the bar and entered the larger dance room. Riza took a few deep breaths; although the guests were just as numerous, the air here didn’t feel nearly as oppressive. The Colonel kept his rapid pace until they had crossed the sea of guests dancing in the middle of the room, swirling in all directions like raging waves.
When he slowed down and finally turned toward her, Roy wasn’t even trying to hide his self-satisfied smile.
"And you're welcome," he said with a half-mocking bow, stretching out the first word.
Riza took a moment to adjust the sleeves of her dress who had slipped off her shoulders – the garment wasn’t really made for this kind of wild chase.
"You know, people are going to become suspicious if you keep doing this," she replied as they started to walk again at a much more relaxed pace. "Besides, how do you know you didn't interrupt a perfectly lovely conversation?"
Roy threw her a knowing look. "Lieutenant, don't insult me. I could sense your annoyance from across the building." They were now entering the dining room, where guests could sit on small rounds tables to enjoy the buffet - not very fancy but quite filling – that laid on the counter along the wall. He smirked, putting his hands in his pockets. "That polite face of yours wasn't fooling anyone.”
"It was certainly fooling him."
"Men see what they want to see," Roy said whimsically. He glanced behind them, then pulled Riza by the arm. "Wait, let's sit. I think the guy might be looking for you."
They swiftly sat down on the first empty table they could see. Thanks to the people standing in small groups around them, their presence was hidden from most of the room.
Riza tried to look around, but couldn’t the young man's brown suit. She went to sip her drink and realized she had left it at the bar.
She sighed. “Guess I’ll need to lay low for a while. But thanks for the help, Colonel,” she added with a rare touch of honestly.
“Always my pleasure,” he nodded slightly. “Give me just a minute.”
Roy stood up and walked toward the back of the room. A few moments later, he returned with a plate filled with some of the few ragtag dishes that had survived from the buffet, and placed it down between them.
Riza suppressed a small smile. "You don't need to keep me company, you know."
Roy shrugged, mouth already full of shrimps. “I could use a break from the networking. Plus, being seen chatting with a beautiful blonde can’t hurt my image.”
“Except everyone knows that blonde is your subordinate,” Riza answered flatly, leaving the other problem unsaid. She reached out to grab a chocolate éclair. “This isn’t even a military event, and you’re still thinking about work?”
“Military event or not, many influent figures of Central are gathered tonight. Can’t miss that opportunity.” Roy licked the butter off his fingers, a gesture that contrasted with the classy black suit he was wearing. “But while we are talking….”, he turned his attention back to her, “there is actually something I needed to tell you. I’ve received intel on a certain individual, here in the capital, which seems rather intriguing.”
Riza fell back into soldier mode in the blink of an eye, straightening up on her chair. “What is this about?”
Roy raised a hand in front of him. “Relax. It’s not about the military.”
Riza frowned. Intel about someone from Central, without it being related to their work? What else could this be about?
It took a few long seconds for the realization to hit her. Oh.
“Sir….” she began warningly, hoping she was wrong.
Roy had a smirk on his face now, like a kid trying not to laugh at its own prank. “Now that I think of it, you in particular might find this person – her - interesting.”
Riza sighed and put her pastry down on the table. She looked him straight in the eye.
“I thought we had agreed, Colonel,” she said slowly, “on the fact that we do not have the same taste in women.”
He raised his hands defensively. “I know, Lieutenant, I know. Which is why this isn’t someone that I would date.”
Riza frowned, suspicious. “How come?”
“A bit too austere for my taste,” Roy answered offhandedly. She gave him a piercing look, and he caved in with a sheepish smile. “But mostly because she wouldn’t want to date me. You, on the other hand…”
Riza ignored his comically wiggling eyebrows and went back to eating her eclair.
“Do you even know if I’m her type?” If women were her type, was what this meant.
“My trusted source tells me so.”
He grabbed an olive and popped it into his mouth before leaning forward, his forearms resting on the table. There was a playful glint in his eyes.
“She’s in her late twenties, work as an investigative journalist – so smart, without a doubt, and with a touch of boldness. According to what I’ve read of her, she seems to have her heart in the right place too - you should see what she writes about Bradley’s administration. I didn’t even think it was legal to print this kind of thing!”
Riza hummed noncommittally. So far, so good.
“And I haven’t even got to the best part,” Roy continued, raising his index for emphasis. “My trusted source tells me she has not one, but two dogs.”
Riza raised an eyebrow. “Two? Sounds like a lot to handle,” she replied, keeping her tone neutral.
He smirked. “But you’re not the type to back down from a challenge, are you, Lieutenant?”
Riza sighed. She had forgotten how persistent Roy could be when he had good intentions. “God, you sound like your sisters right now.” A doubt crossed her mind, and she narrowed her eyes at him. “Did your sisters had something to do with this?”
Roy leaned back in his chair. “She goes to the same hairdresser as Bianca,” he admitted shamelessly. “They’re friends.”
“You are impossible,” Riza said with a half-smile, shaking her head. “I’ll think about it.” Roy nodded, apparently satisfied, while she grabbed the last piece of bread from the plate. “But what about you?”
“What about me?”
“I haven’t seen you with Madeline for a while.”
“Oh, well…” Roy looked away, his expression growing more somber. “Things were starting to get too serious between us. She wanted to move in with me.”
Riza felt her teasing smile fade off. “So, you broke it off?”
“No,” he replied a bit defensively, “we had a conversation about it like mature adults. I told her how I really feel about…all of that. And she decided to end it.”
It wasn’t the first time she had heard that story. Riza felt a pang of sympathy for him. “I’m sorry about that, Colonel.”
He shrugged it off, trying to appear casual. “It’s alright. I had a feeling it would end this way.”
Around them, the crowd had begun to dissipate, as guests wandered outside to enjoy the cool night air. Riza spotted two unopened beers lying on a table nearby that was now empty and got up to get them.
"You know," she said as she sat back down, placing one of the bottles in front of Roy, "there are plenty of women who would be happy with a casual relationship, no string attached."
“Trust me, Lieutenant, I am aware,” he replied with a smirk. “And I’ve had my share of that in the past. But I’m almost thirty, now; I’m not a young man anymore.” He popped the beer cap off on the edge of the table – his favorite party trick – and took a swig. “It’s only natural to seek something a bit more meaningful, someone with which I can drop the act.”
Riza raised an eyebrow as she searched through her purse for keys. “So, you want a serious emotional relationship with none of the practical aspect? Seems to me like you want to have the cake and eat it too.” She finally founded them and opened her own beer with a flick of the wrist.
Roy frowned. “Well, you seem to manage to get exactly that. You were with Rose for what, 2 years? Without any talk of moving, marriage, kids or whatnot.”
Riza gave him a flat look. “Yes, because if we had done anything like that and someone found out, she would have lost her teaching position – and I would have risked getting kicked out of the military. That’s hardly a pleasant reason.”
“Of course,” he nodded, “you’re right. But in our case, you have to agree that it is convenient. “
Riza hummed reluctantly. It was, in a way: she never had had to reveal the real reason why she didn’t want to  - or couldn’t - commit too firmly to a relationship. She was grateful for that; even among her most trusted partners, there weren't many who would have understood.
“But all is not lost!” Roy said after a moment, pulling Riza out of her thoughts. He set his bottle on the table with determination. “I have decided to try a new approach to dating, one that I think is promising.”
Riza looked at him, tilting her head with curiosity.
“I’m going incognito.”
She took a sip of beer. “Interesting. Any alias?”
He crossed his arms, musing. “Think I’ll stick to Roy. Just Roy, a simple guy looking for someone to spend the weekends with, without getting too engaged in each other lives. I’m sure some women are looking for that.”
“It will be a bit harder without your whole “Flame Alchemist” thing going on, though,” Riza notes, amused.
“I know,” he smirked, “but that’s the fun of it. You see, with my reputation, I can easily sway the most exquisite women in Central – except one, that is.“ Riza rolled her eyes at his sideways glance. “But the kind of women that are interested in me rarely is the one I’d like to end up with. In fact,” he chuckled somberly, “if someone falls for my “lazy, arrogant Hero of Ishval” persona, either they’re in it only for the prestige or they’re a terrible judge of character.”
Riza nodded slowly. “An unfortunate consequence of your strategy.” There was a short silence. Then she propped her chin in the palm of her hand, elbow on the table, and let out a teasing smile. “At any rate, I am looking forward to seeing how this will turn out. If only to know if you’re half as good as a seducer as you’ve always claimed to be.”
That made Roy laugh, throwing his head back. He looked at her with a fond expression, the type he only had after a few drinks. “You know, I’ll never get over how unfortunate it is that I’m not your type.”
She smirked. “I think it makes everything a lot simpler, actually.”
“Maybe,” he conceded. “But the best things in life rarely are the simple ones.”
Riza chuckled, and the two fell into a comfortable silence as they worked on finishing their beers. They were lukewarm, and not of the highest quality, but that didn’t matter - this was a night for familiarity and comfort, not luxury.
Suddenly, something in the room caught Roy's attention.
"Oh - I think I just saw her!" He craned his neck, looking at something behind Riza.
"Her?"
"The journalist. Come on!" Roy was already on his feet, motioning for her to get up.
Riza frowned as she pushed her chair back. "You mean she's here?"
Roy turned back toward her. "Do you think I would have told you all this if she wasn't? You underestimate my organizational skills, Lieutenant." She snorted, but let the comment slide. "By the way - have you seen what was on the news about Major Kingsman's trial?"
Riza tried to remember what she had read in the newspaper the previous Sunday. "I've skimmed through it, yes..."
"That'll do." He maneuvered between the tables, heading toward a woman who had just stopped by the buffet - or what was left of it. "Ms. Delacroix! We were just talking about you! I would like you to meet Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye - she's the subordinate I was telling you about."
The woman turned in their direction and smiled as she recognized the Colonel. Her outfit was simple but elegant, a linen shirt with a low-cut neckline and flowy black pants. Her brown hair fell down her back in a long braid, and her face was covered in freckles.
Riza felt like her jaw had just dropped. God. Did Roy even know how much she loved freckles?
The woman turned her attention to Riza as she came up beside them. "Yes, I remember! It's a pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant."
Riza suppressed her sudden urge to rearrange her hair- which must have looked atrocious, after hours in those stuffy rooms - and stepped forward to shake her hand.
"The pleasure is mine, Ms. Delacroix," she replied warmly. For once, it really was.
"So," the woman began, looking at Riza with interest, "Colonel Mustang told me you had some questions about my recent article in The Central Times?
Riza swore internally. She made a mental note to take it up with him later. "That's right," she said with a small smile. "I'm afraid I'm not an expert in the subject, but your article certainly caught my curiosity."
Before Ms. Delacroix could respond, Roy glanced over his shoulder. "I'm afraid I heard someone call my name," he chimed in, not looking the least bit sorry. "I'll leave you ladies to it."
He bid them both goodbyes, bowing his head at Ms.Delacroix, and promptly walked away.
Over the journalist’s shoulder, Riza saw him look back after a few steps. He caught her gaze and gave her a satisfied grin, mouthing something.
"You're welcome."
Riza bit down a witty retort and instead turned her attention back to Ms.Delacroix. The Colonel could wait; she had more important matters in front of her.
do you have any popular songs you like that you know because of reasons that are totally out of left field? like instead of hearing it for the first time through an obvious venue like the radio or maybe a movie it was licensed in, you hear it only because of like one random amv you saw 11 years ago?
I’ve got a lot of those, the only reason I know about the song Ghosts by Ladytron is NOT because of the many video games it was licensed into, not even Sims (before the ultimate collection of sims 2 was given out for free my only experience with sims was playing sims 2 on console once at a sleepover at a friends house when we were like 8 and giggling about the woohooing) but ACTUALLY because when i was like 11 i heard the toxic avenger remix of it once in a fanmade AMV for of all things, someone’s oc in an original character tournament (battle royale game where people draw or write their ocs fighting to death with their own oc winning, usually in illustrations, comics or short fictions (although this specific OC in the OCT i’m talking about was notable because the entries were usually full flash animations with voice acting even) and whoever does the best wins to the next round, also i say fight to the death but its not always to the death, sometimes its just to defeat, but death is popular because it heightens the stakes and stuff like that lol) and then got really obsessed with the song because it was catchy but also the line about a prince with a thousand enemies reminded me of watership down
theres this one song thats not popular but it was called honest mistake by the bravery and it plays in my head every time i make a silly and harmless but stupid mistake because i think its funny but the only reason i ever heard that song was because someone used it in a warrior cats speedpaint. i think they were drawing tigerstar
i will never know anything about homestuck because i have a unique ability to not absorb anything about that series whatsoever (i have the same problem with the avengers movies too lol) but theres lots of songs i like that were used in popular homestuck amvs and i never have and never will watch a homestuck amv but i did watch a lot of animation memes, warrior cat fan animations, and various anime amvs, and i guess along the way these popular homestuck associated songs got to me via non-homestuck sources hjfdskjflsmfdn, stuff like nilili mambo and satin in a coffin for example
i was really into jack white’s music when i was like 15 and just starting highschool and an upperclassman once complimented my music taste because i was talking about it and i felt very cool but the only reason i ever got into that music was because a very very VERY small internet reviewer i watched used i cut like a buffalo by the dead weather as a short intro song in one of his videos
Loki series thoughts so far
MAJOR SPOILERS, DO NOT READ IF YOU STILL HAVEN’T WATCHED EPISODES 1 AND 2 OF THE LOKI SHOW
We good?
We good. Last warning.
Ok here we go
They deadass used Infinity Stones as office decorations. The TVA here actually is competent and AWESOME!! But unfortunately this means there’s no multiverse at the moment because everything was merged into one universe :(
2012 Loki watching everything post-2012... Fuckin’ heartbreaking... I was initially worried about losing all the character development Loki had throughout the movies post-2012, but it looks like we’re getting some new character development that really goes in-depth about Loki and how he thinks. We finally know (sort of) why Loki does what he does. Tom Hiddleston was right. It’s a defense mechanism first and foremost, and a source of enjoyment afterwards. There’s something incredibly relatable about this new information.
Okay. Episode 2. I’m still watching it.
DOOMSDAY AS CAMOFLAGE. I LOVE IT. And Asgard is what made him realize it!!
TOM HIDDLESTON SPEAKING PERFECT CONVERSATIONAL LATIN HAS MADE ME INSANELY HAPPY HOLY FUCK HE SPOKE PERFECT LATIN!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA This means that Tom had to learn conversational Latin exclusively for this series, so Latin is NOT a dead language like everyone always says. WOOHOO!
...I’m a Latin enthusiast
Also just- Loki releasing the goats and making a ruckus right before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. This whole scene gives me so much joy. AND IT DOESN’T AFFECT THE TIMELINE AT ALL! Loki is a fuckin’ genius!
This episode contains a thunderstorm by the way, so if you’re afraid of thunder like I am, this is good exposure therapy.
...holy fuck Evil Variant Loki can transfer consciousness to other bodies at will
WE ALREADY HAVE LADY LOKI (sort of) AND IT’S ONLY THE SECOND EPISODE
Seriously though this is fucking awesome holy shit-
aw no there’s a baby crying in the background ;-;
Loki talking to Loki. This should be a massive time paradox. I can see why the Timekeepers are upset about this.
...Loki what are you doing- don’t say you’re going to overthrow the Timekeepers-
Ok Evil Variant Loki is now Randy. This is canon. I think.
I don’t fully understand what is happening but I think 2012!Loki is bluffing about this to stall for time- AAAAAAND RANDY HAS POSSESSED ANOTHER GUY. SHIT. AND THEY FIGHTIN’.
I’m going to stop putting literally everything in this post because I’m giving a play-by-play at this point
LADY LOKI IN LOKI OUTFIT LADY LOKI IS HERE IT’S HER IT’S HER HOLY FUCK THIS IS NOT A DRILL
This completely debunks my theory that the Loki they were tracking down would be Old Man Loki from the Agent of Asgard comics, I thought Loki would be turning into Lady Loki at some point for shenanigans or something
Aaaaaaaand the timeline is fucked. Please please PLEASE let this lead to a multiverse event
And that’s the end of the episode. Damn. Marvel is absolutely spoiling us fans this month, and I’m not complaining.
Get to Know the Simmer: S2 Edition
I was tagged by @krabbysims, thank you! Going to put this under the cut for those who are not interested to know this kind of stuff about me.
Your name: Epi
Languages you speak: Finnish and broken English. Theoretically I should be able to understand some Swedish as well but let’s not try that in practice.
Are you a mermaid?: I might be? I love swimming. I’ve always wanted that kind of swim fin you use with both legs and can do proper dolphin kicks with, but sadly I only own regular ones :P
Your play style: I build a custom neighborhood, throw x amount of unrelated adult sims in there and hope that they actually like each other enough to produce the second generation at some point.
Your Simself picture: I’ve never done a self-sim, actually. I remember I tried once when I was a lot younger and found it too distressing.
Stories or gameplay, builds, look books, edits or CC: I want it all ~🎵
Your favorite age state: Adults. I’m a boring adult myself.
Your favorite season: Fall and winter.
Your favorite holiday: Halloween. I’m not much of a holiday person really, but Halloween always means big parties in the gaming world.
How was your day?: Just started! I’m trying to get my coffee finished so I’d actually wake up x)
Your favorite career: Oceanography
Your favorite aspiration: Knowledge
Your favorite EP, GP and SP: Uh, this is a hard one because I actually played BG only for many years and then went straight from that to the full game. But from EPs probably FreeTime? Because I can’t imagine playing without secondary aspirations anymore. From SPs definitely Ikea, those are one of the rare not-CC objects that I actually use in my game.
How old is your simblr?: A little over a year now!
Have you WooHooed?: Oh gosh, no, I’m way too innocent for that.
Your favorite skill: Telescopes are cool so... Logic? *shrug*
The size of your mods folder: 12,7 GB apparently
Your 3 favorite mods: These days my gameplay owns a lot for ACR, Hereditary Supernaturalism and Traits Project. But three mods I seriously couldn’t live without? Camera mods, No Baby Harassment and Stereo hack (which stops sims from turning the stereo on all. the. damn. time.)
Your interests (other than Sims): I’m a comic nerd! I also like music and animals.
Your favorite Sim (picture if possible): I really don’t have favorites among my own sims, they all seem different for me (and make me frustrated for different reasons xD) but Foxfire Forest is my current pet project and Becca was actually the first sim I planned for it so take a pic of her:
Tumblr media
Which Sims games have you played (including mobile games)?: On PC TS1, TS2, TS4 (for five hours). On console at least Bustin’ Out and possibly some other PS2 rip-offs as well but I don’t remember anything from those.
Propose a crazy scheme: I’m not sure if someone proposed this already? But let’s break into the EA headquarters and steal TS2 source code.
Best part of simblr: Community
Worst part of simblr: Drama
What other games you play?: I play a lot of games but I usually move to the next one when I finish something. Some titles that I often return to are Dragon Ages, Guild Wars 2, Skyrim, Pokémons, Assassin’s Creeds, and Cities: Skylines. I really enjoy playing isometric games on PC but otherwise I often switch to my PS4.
Other websites or accounts (Origin, Twitter, etc.): Whatever I need for playing the games I want to play. I try to avoid Epic Games Store as long as I can though. And I’m not a big fan of social media.
Are you single?: Happily married
I’m not going to tag anyone since it’s kinda personal? But if you feel like telling something about yourself, go for it!
i convinced my friend to watch fresh precure and she’s live sending me her reactions (part 5)
(side note: my inner sadist has COMPLETELY taken over by now. My biggest source of entertainment right now is watching her react to the insane and devastating scenes. It’s a definitive highlight of my month. I’ve squealed and evil laughed like a movie villain IRL over this more times than I can count, milked her emotional state during and after Certain Episodes for all it’s worth in order to get some entertainment out of her reactions, intentionally worsened said emotional state, spent weeks looking forward to when she sees certain episodes (including this one) knowing her reactions will be delicious, and ever since she first said she was gonna watch fresh precure, the amount of sadistic pleasure I feel, and how often I am entertained by the suffering of people, has skyrocketed. Mostly from her reactions, but it has actually leaked into other aspects of my life just a bit. And I have never, ever, ever felt guilt or remorse over any of this.
There’s been times before when I’ve done things just to see people’s reactions and enjoyed it when they took temporary emotional damage, but never to this level of enjoyment. I can see why Northa likes being evil. This is the most fun I’ve had in months, possibly years.)
(yes, I do have a line I have drawn, and I will not cross it. Seeing people cry and scream from things such as their Minecraft pets dying, or heart-wrenching comics on Tumblr like that pokemon one (you know the one), that kind of stuff, is some of the best entertainment ever, but if anyone actually gets hurt in a non-emotional way, or what happens could indirectly result in death or something similar, that’s where I draw the line, that’s not entertaining. I would also never intentionally trigger disassociation or trauma. I may be evil, but I’m not a monster.)
Anyways...
Reaction Highlights
Episode 36
-“WELL. This thumbnail. Um. Imma just hit play now.”
-She shuddered when she saw the grass dying because Northa walked on it. Then the theme song was skipped.
-When Chiffon began walking, there was dozens of heart emojis. She related to Tarte saying "It just makes my heart all warm and fuzzy".
-The acorn hunting scene got a total of 10 :-D emoticons, 4 <3 emoticons, and one =~D. She then said “Aww, I just wanna leap through the screen and join the fun!!”  (I told her she would take that back soon)
-Then Chiffon became Infinity, and we got “Oh frick Oh frICK FRICK (GASP) D~= !!!!! NO No no NO Clover box clover box clover box- *collapses on knees with a huge sigh of relief* OH thank goodness!! She's back!”
-She then started yelling at the characters to “get the heck out of there before--” (villains appear) “--Labyrinth shows up.”
-The fight scene... “WOOHOO!!!! YEAH!!! HA HA HAAA- *freezes* =~0” “Oh frick, OH frick Oh FRICK”
-She scrambled backwards when Northa made that terrifying face
-Then when the monster was destroyed, she was all “WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =~D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
-she then sent this: *watches the plants drink up the despair energy with an expression of both fear and disgust* *shudders once again*
Tate no Yuusha: Last Episode (Anime vs Manga)
Spoilers to the last episode and manga adaptation ahead!
Well, they packed so much in this last episode didn't they. Not that they really had any choice considering it was the one and only good way to close the whole season. Though I feel a little robbed about some stuff, like the relationship L'Arc had with Glass (meaning, she was acting as his superior and he was really good at supporting her during the fight in the manga, a lot of their interactions there were more fleshed out than in the anime). It was shown to some extent, but focus was lost. Probably due to the battle. It looked as if anime focused on showing how “woohoo” battle is instead of focusing more on Glass and how she needed her party during the battle. Anime tried to show her as powerful, but in the same time refused to acknowledge her weakness after Naofumi became stronger and focused only on this one caused by Soul Eater Shield. Manga to the contrary focuses on how much of a pain Naofumi became to Glass for the sake of showing how helpful L'Arc and Therese are to her when Glass is in a pinch or fights someone strong. Well, I can only say it's a price which we pay for translating novel to two different mediums at the same time.
I feel also robbed from the whole drama with Risha. In the manga it didn't happen as quickly as in the anime. She got whole storyarc, from which we learned a lot about Itsuki, his party, how they treated her, which kind of person Risha is and even her quirk of going around in a costume, because she feels safe inside something. We were robbed of that image of her saving the day in her cute costume just like in the last episode we got robbed from all the drama of L'Arc's betrayal and some of his great texts like "Don't make that face. This hurts my heart, too." (Which by the way is along with Glass comments a confirmation that there is a room for L'Arc x Naofumi in this whole universe).
Tumblr media
We also got robbed from Therese telling everybody that L'Arc sucks when it comes to explaining things clearly to other people, which is... a shame, like it would flesh out his character a little more than anime actually tries. (If anybody wanna see, check chapter 40 of the manga).
Speaking of which, the whole battle is also shown in a different way in the manga, because Naofumi never splits up from Raphtalia and uses Soul Eater Shield from the very start to nearly the end. The change in the manga to use only this one shield and also to not split up parties was used to give us more informations about Glass and L'Arc due to them being from another world (simply put, there is more team battle in the manga and basically no individual battle, which anime shows instead). In anime this whole scene serves as "wow, it's a cool battle going on", but also as "Glass isn't human" realisation scene, where she alone is more of a thread than when she battles with her team. There is nothing about L'Arc also drinking the vial. Not to mention that in the manga Glass didn't drink the vial, she literally bathed in it, which made her so overpowered that it also strenghtened the sense of abnormality without actually any need to split her from her peers (meaning that bath and power were two weird things which made her abnormal). So I feel kinda robbed of that, simply because it was great reinterpretation of the novel. Sometimes just going along with the text in a book isn't the best choice and it really shows in this scene. Naofumi in the anime doesn't really look as if he was cornered enough to actually use Shield of Wrath, while in the manga the sheer power which Glass shows there (and doesn't in the anime as much as in the manga) was enough to make him instantly switch to using the Shield of Wrath. And it worked better, not only because anime forgot that Naofumi should act violently while using that Shield. (Do I have to add that manga portrays him as going into evil/crazy guy mode and Raphtalia and Filo throw themselves at him to actually stop him from doing anything bad to Glass, and also show that L'Arc makes concerned face when he SAVES Glass from Naofumi, while Naofumi is fighting with his own party yelling that they have to take Glass down now, because it's their chance?)
Tumblr media
(He kinda looks like as if he was in pain for seeing Naofumi in such a state).
*sighs* Manga definitely won me over, but I cannot say that anime did bad in portraying the battle. It did fine. I mean anime is a visual medium as much as manga is, but because manga is a comic while anime is a TV series there are of course differences in the way they use visual methods to explain things to the audience. Also anime tend to go into "wooohoo" mode when there are battles during the episode, which rarely happens in the comics, where battles serve as trigger to actually tell audience more about the characters. Here we kinda have the situation where anime was focusing on “wow, battle” while manga was focusing on “look how powerful Glass is after bathing in this vial with potion and look how abnormaly powerful she became”. Manga went nuts to show that Glass is overpowered, while anime tried to show that in the strenght of her attacks, but even though she was strong it still kinda felt a little flat if I am honest. I almost wish animators were reading the manga and tried to borrow some stuff from there to improve the storyline, instead of going along with the novel.
(Simply put, Glass was strong only after she bathed in the vials, and before that she was as much vulnerable as any other character so she needed her party. Anime went with her being still the most powerful and split her up with her peers early on, so she could go nuts at Naofumi, but then when she drank the vial she became just a little more stronger though considering she was already shown as strong before, it didn’t have the same effect as in the scenario when she relied on her team more to fight with Naofumi, cuz he became so much stronger).
Tumblr media
Ok, moving on, what I was talking about earlier? Ah, Risha and her fluffy costumes. We were robbed of Risha and her fluffy costumes! And Itsuki being a total jerk! I really wish they didn't pack it into this one episode as "quick summary of what happened to her" and instead went with whole arc, because Risha’s SUICIDE ATTEMPT feels so flat in comparision! But well, they had to close the season and the best way seemed to be with the use of Naofumi's new title and territory as well as semi-romantic scene with Raphtalia (I do not ship them, but I also do not want to rob people who ship them from their joy, I just point out that Risha’s whole storyarc suffered, because of the haste in this last episode and the need to close it with Naofumi’s homebase). Oh, and we also were robbed of the info that Motoyasu cannot handle crying girls as well as him still treating Naofumi as if he was a rapist, instead of a victim of Malty's scheme. Well, there was more stuff with all that. There was a lot of things, including Naofumi getting angry at Motoyasu and Itsuki again, because one is a jerk and the other is an idiot. Whole drama with Risha has much more weight in the manga and I wish it was treated seriously in the anime as well, because it’s just unfair to her as a character to be treated as if her suicide attempt was something unimportant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Read chapters 40-48 of the manga, it’s good).
There was though whole recruiting new party members thing mentioned in the manga and I was really excited for that, because when thinking about people who Naofumi can trust, he instinctively thought about L’Arc and Therese. Which so happens to not be adressed at all in the anime. It almost looks like that for the sake of cute ending Naofumi forgot he has trust issues and as a person with trust issues myself I am sure he still has them and would be worried about adding people, whom he cannot trust to his party so lightly.
Tumblr media
Actually I was kinda suprised that Naofumi got whole place to run, because I didn't remember that being mentioned in the manga. In the manga Naofumi was in the Castle in Melromarc after the wave, dealing with whole Risha drama. I do not remember there being any village restoration mentioned, so I dunno if anime added that or manga actually skipped whole "Naofumi became the Lord and started building his base of operation in this world" thing. It was probably the latter considering that both anime and manga adapt the same novel.
For the anime adaptation it probably felt more important to adress Raphtalia's fear of abandonment, considering that anime was hinting at her being afraid of that in a lot of episodes already, while for the manga it was more important to adress issues with other heroes first, so then the whole Spirit Tortoise Arc would make much more sense due to them being idiots who cannot deal with the fact that they are weaker than people in the universe they were summoned to, when they should actually be stronger than them as heroes. It's a matter of interpretation and approach to the source material mostly.
But, boy, how much good stuff we could get...
Arrow 7x17 brain dump
So, this week’s episode was ok. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great. I had expected to not really be fussed by this week’s offering and as such wasn’t deeply disappointed. I really missed my Olicity babies in this episode though. The upside of the episode being a bit meh, is that this review didn’t take me 57 years to write, which whilst sick, was a bonus haha!!
Olicity
Olicity weren’t the focus of this episode, but we still managed to get some cute little moments and touches thrown in there. Felicity’s praise when Oliver came back to the lair looking like a prize fighter, was too cute! I love how smitten she still is with him even after all this time, and how bashful and blushing and gorgeous he gets in response is just 😍😍
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also got a lovely little comfort scene once Oliver realised that Emiko was in fact evil (shocker, I know). Felicity cupping Oliver’s face whilst stroking her baby belly was so damned adorable!!
Continued under the cut
Oliver
Oliver being so open and trusting and just happy to be training with Emiko was so lovely and so heartbreaking because you just knew she would let him down. He mentioned Thea (yay!) and said that she’d always wanted a sister 😭😭 Why does this leave me feeling like Thea is gonna come back and try and kill Emiko??
I also loved seeing Oliver telling people the truth straight up, when asked how he knew about Emiko, listening to Dig’s advice (if not his wife’s) and just being an all-round hopeful bean!!  The growth he shows is amazing, it’s just a shame that his hope and faith in his sister didn’t pay off. He so badly wants to be in her life, to help her be good, and in turn redeem the Queen family name in her eyes. His line “If I abandon her now I’m no better than my father” just made me so sad. His parents were so important to him he wants them redeemed, so in turn it can redeem him too (not that he needs it). I don’t think he does, or will, find out just how much of a shitty Dad Robert was to Emiko, which is a shame, as I think it would give him some peace that some things just cannot be redeemed and that it isn’t a reflection on him. He had such faith in Emiko being good, he still didn’t think of her at first when he found the signal jammer in the lair. Even now I think he will continue trying to bring her back, despite Dig’s advice and reminder that sometimes evil siblings are just evil siblings 😂 I hope this isn’t foreshadowing Oliver having to kill Emiko like Dig did with Andy?
Bonus: Oliver shooting all the drones was so damn hot 🔥🔥
Felicity
Our girl didn’t have a huge role this week, but what we did get was fabulous! Felicity’s little pep talk to herself at the beginning of the episode about having it all was too adorable for words!
Tumblr media
We got to see the beginnings of Smoak Technologies, along with the first name drop of the company I think? I love that she brought Alena in to be CTO, she gets to have a friend in her company that won’t try and mansplain everything to her at last!! Alena’s reaction is all of us!
Tumblr media
Source: felicitysmoakgifs
It was so nice to see her back as Overwatch on the comms, and just generally people being back in the lair! We even got a couple of OTA moments! I loved her “computers will never replace people” line too!
Bonus: Felicity being cute in the lair gives me life!
Emiko/Robert
This was really Emiko’s villain origin episode. We saw her as a child being evicted and abandoned by Robert, who yet again, proves to be the scum of the earth, and the true villain of the entire series. Upon overhearing that Robert was kicking them out of their home and would no longer support them, the only words of comfort he had for her were “Life isn’t fair, we don’t always get what we want”…Robert Queen was a prize dick!! His reasons for abandoning his family? Moira will take his company, money and kids if he doesn’t. GTFO you philandering old bastard, you made your bed…lie in it! Ugh he was the actual worst!
So as a penniless and possibly homeless 11 year old in Starling City, Emiko naturally turns to a life of crime in order to support her and her mother when she meets Dante. (For the record, I found the younger Emiko far more compelling to watch than the adult version 😬) Dante evidently enrols her into the Ninth Circle, who present her with a gift, as her final induction…the plans to blow up the Queen’s Gambit. She goes back to Robert with a business plan for a new subsidiary of Queen Consolidated, a chance to prove herself to her family and earn some money, and despite the solid plan, Robert wants nothing to do with it, telling her that QC is Oliver’s legacy and that she needs to remain a secret, before leaving her again for his trip on the Gambit. Crestfallen and angry, she doesn’t show him the plans and lets him leave to meet his fate.  The horrible irony here is that Emiko would have failed the Ninth Circle’s ‘test’ and saved Robert/Oliver/Sara, had Robert not been such a massive douchenozzle.
I like that they managed to link everything with Emiko back to the Gambit, and they did so without retconning. Malcolm still had the yacht sabotaged, but it looks like he did it via the Ninth Circle.  The big ‘twist’ we see at the end of the episode is that Emiko is now, in fact, the leader of the Ninth Circle, not Dante, and as such appears to be the season’s Big Bad. Part of me is like yaaaasss female Big Bad woohoo! But then the way it has come about has been lacklustre to say the least, and we weren’t given the time (or the writing) to get to like Emiko in order to actually care or feel the impact or shock value of her turning on Oliver. Instead we’re just all left feeling a bit meh.
Emiko still seems to have a soft spot for Rene (someone has to I guess) and with both of them being Oliver/Team Arrow traitors, they make a good fit 😜  We also found out that she still hasn’t found her mother’s killer. Maybe if Oliver could help her solve her mother’s murder and Rene keeps making eyes at her she will come back round to the good side??? Doubtful haha, but just a suggestion. The season’s theme is redemption after all!
Black Siren
Whilst Oliver is at home, preparing dinner for wifey (adorbs), he gets a visit from an injured Laurel, looking for Felicity. Instead, she tells Oliver about Emiko killing Diaz, and not being as squeaky clean as he thinks. This, as to be expected, leads to a confrontation between the two, which is interesting, because we all know that Laurel is telling the truth. When accused of having a blind spot for his family, Oliver hits back with “it’s called loyalty, I know that’s a concept you don’t totally understand”. Burn. Their scenes are so much better when they are open in their dislike for each other! Much as I have enjoyed Felicity and BS friendship this season, the petty bitch in me still laughs at Oliver’s clear disdain for her…he didn’t even help her with her wound, just gave her some supplies and left her to it 😂😂 He ‘helps’ her here purely for Felicity’s sake, which is lovely though!
Next, Dinah gets on her arse about doing things by the book, which ordinarily I would agree with, but Dinah is a vigilante herself! And although they are now sanctioned by the SCPD, Dinah has herself coerced witnesses, stolen evidence and violated the law in about a dozen other ways in her pursuit of justice.  This is the premise of the show people! The hypocrisy is real! BS is just a little further behind on her journey than Dinah. Dinah later accuses BS of killing the gangster guy (I wasn’t really paying attention to who he was), bringing up her killing Vinnie, which immediately gets her back up. BS says that she has earned the benefit of the doubt, which I agree with to an extent. Dinah then effectively washes her hands of her.
I can empathise with BS for trying to do the right thing, and not being believed/trusted by anyone. I think it was intentional to not see a scene with her and Felicity this week, so as to keep her feeling isolated, whereas Felicity would have believed/reassured her. Felicity even defended her in the bunker to Rene. The episode finishes up with Emiko ‘outing’ her to the press, and ‘setting her free’ to be evil again. This will all set up her apparent return to her evil roots next week. I think she will ultimately end up being redeemed. We know (I think we know?) she is leaving for good after next week’s episode, so hopefully she will go back off to Earth 2 or something like that to become Black Canary there, and she can take all her little comic book friends with her, and everyone will be happy!
Other stuff
The drone attack in this episode was a practice run. Is this sarin gas attack going to be the thing that brings down the city, and causes it to turn on Oliver and the team?
Was the episode synopsis written whilst on crack?? I know we all laughed a little bit when we first saw how it was worded, but after watching the episode it was literally nothing like what actually happened??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why on earth did they bring in Highlander, just for him to end up being Emiko’s lackey?? It’s like Cayden James/Michael Emerson being usurped by Diaz all over again!
Tumblr media
“Are you ready, yet?” You watch your reflection jump when the incessant rapping begins on the door and you hear your boyfriend’s loud whine over the dull roar of your blow dryer.
“Patience is a virtue, Jeon Jeong-guk.”
“Don’t use my formal name on me to try and cover up the fact that you are taking literally forever to get ready.”
You can see him in your mind’s eye: pouting, impatiently creating Timberland shaped wear marks in the plush hotel carpet, and pointing at the door to scold you.
“You can’t do big things if you are distracted by the little things.”
“Exactly! That is why I am leaving in two minutes--with or without you.”
“You wouldn’t dare! This is our date night!”
“No quote? Wow!” His sarcasm is palpable through the wood barrier. “You don’t seem too excited about it so I can just go on my own. I’ve been looking forward to this for weeks and I’m not going to miss it.”
You hear him move away from the door. Turning off the blow dryer, you hear him rummaging around the room so you pull out your makeup bag for the finishing touches.
“Give me five minutes!” You inform him, but you aren’t sure he hears you as he begins speaking at the exact same moment from right outside the bathroom door.
“I’ll grab some food on the way home! Don’t stay up! Love you!”
“Jungkook!”
The click of the door latch and subsequent silence shocks you.
Did he really just…?
Hurriedly tossing your makeup bag to the side, you swing open the door and find an empty hotel room. Your eyes are wide and your heart is racing as you throw on your shoes, grab your bag, and rush out the door. You don’t see him in the hallway, elevator, or lobby. Outside, the warmth of the setting sun on your skin would be pleasant if you were to give yourself time to soak it in, but you currently have a two-track mind.
Track One: I’m glad I know where I’m going.
and
Track Two: That impatient, immature, impulsive imbecile! Just wait…
Turning sharply around the corner of a large brick building, you see your destination. The sharp colors, shimmering lights, and festive music make the scene look like a moment pulled directly from a teen movie. The sun is still in the sky, just barely, and the colors it is creating as a backdrop to the city’s carnival is jaw-dropping. In fact, you take a moment to pause and snap a photograph with your phone. Even if you are beyond angry with your boyfriend, you can still stop and smell the metaphorical roses. You nod, pleased with yourself, while you replace your phone in your pocket and continue to scout out the crowd for your target.
Target acquired.
You pick up the pace as you make your way through the masses. Just as the scrawny teenager working the concession stand hands Jungkook his cotton candy, you push into his shoulder and steal the sweet confection.
“Hey! That’s mine!”
“Well, you’re a prick that left his girlfriend at the hotel in a strange city to go to a carnival, so I think it is only fair.” You continue to walk aimlessly through the fair, making a grandiose showing of eating small clouds of the pastel goodness.
“You were taking too long,” he defends.
You don’t say anything, just continuing to stroll through the crowd. You never have been the best at hiding your emotions so Jungkook can tell just how upset you are.
“I knew you’d catch up!”
Your movement halts only when you reach the line to purchase tickets. Jungkook is looking at you, almost helplessly, as you scan the ticket prices and then people watch while waiting.
“Babe, seriously, I knew you’d come once you were done.”
You take another bite of the cotton candy as the family in front of you buys their weight in tickets.
“Sweetie, I love you. Please talk to me.” His hand hesitantly comes to rest on your lower back. “I’m sorry if I upset you. I just…”
“40 tickets please!” You say sweetly to the woman in the ticket booth. When she calculates the price, you look expectantly at Jungkook. The passive aggressive smirk that you shoot his way makes him sigh and reach into his pocket.
“Thank you!” You tell the woman cheerfully as you grab the tickets and walk away from the booth with Jungkook following closely behind like a lost puppy.
“Y/N,” he starts.
“Jungkook!” You turn around abruptly. “I’ll bet you a shaved ice that I can beat you.” You nod your head toward the classic bottle game, where you see two children trying their hardest to knock down their pyramids of bottles with a ball, both failing.
He looks back and forth between you and the game several times before a competitive sparkle appears in his chestnut eyes and a smirk comes to his face.
“You’re on!”
An hour later, you have managed to win shaved ice, pretzels, a funnel cake, two stuffed animals, and a goldfish.
“One more game!” Jungkook declares as he looks around the carnival. “If I win, you owe me a kiss.”
“And if I win?”
“I’ll ride whatever ride you decide without any complaints.”
You nod and follow him to the final game of your competition-- skeeball.
“You’re going down, babe! You know how good I am at bowling...this is like the same thing!” He boasts as he places some coins in your palm to begin the game. The booth attendant looks at you with a raised eyebrow, to which you respond with a shrug.
“Whatever you say, Kookie.” You respond innocently.
“Alright, let’s start at the same time. Five, four, three, two, one…”
The clink of coins entering the machines precedes the rumble of the balls rolling down the chute towards the two of you.
The next two minutes are filled with Jungkook’s exclamations of success. He is so wrapped up in the competition he doesn’t notice how quiet you are or the noises coming from the scoreboard on your machine.
When the final buzzer sounds, your scoreboard flashes WINNER!
“WooHoo!” You cheer, raising your hands in victory. Your right arm isn’t able to fully extend though because it comes in contact with...something.
“Ooof,” you hear from beside you.
Turning your head, almost comically slow, you take in the scene to your right.
The booth attendant has her hands over her mouth and her eyes crinkling with laughter or worry as she looks at the person doubled over in front of her.
Jungkook is covering his face with both hands, swaying forward and backward, mumbling words that you can’t understand.
“Oh no! Jungkook! I didn’t mean too!” You kneel down in front of him and gently grasp his wrists.
“Kookie?” He shakes his head. “Are you okay? Let me see, please?”
He takes a deep breath and brings his hands down, looking directly at them in search of blood.
There is none.
Wide-eyed, you take in his face. There is a pink spot on his cheekbone but everything else looks normal, all things considered.
“I’m so sorry, Kookie!” You pull yourself up and place a gentle kiss on his cheek. “I didn’t mean to hit you! I didn’t realize you were that close to me. I’m sorry!”
He gives you a shy smile before looking around at the small audience the two of you have drawn.
“It’s fine, Y/N. Karma is just catching up to me, I guess.” He grins more genuinely now. “Grab your things and choose a ride. You won fair and square, even though you should’ve probably been penalized for excessive celebration.” He pushes his arm into yours lightly.
“We don’t have to, babe.” You counter. “We can get you some ice and just head back to the hotel...”
“No, I’m a man of my word. We are going on at least one ride.” He turns around in a dramatic fashion. “Pick your poison, Y/N.”
You take in your choices before grabbing his hand and pulling him in a determined direction.
He laughs as you tug him into the waiting car of the Ferris wheel.
“You had to win a bet to get me to ride a Ferris wheel?” He jokes.
“No, I just thought it’d be a nice change of pace.” You grin.
The two of you spend the next few minutes holding hands while looking over the carnival. No words are exchanged, but both of your minds are going miles per second.
“I’m sorry.”  Jungkook stares straight ahead. You wouldn’t know he had been the source of the apology if you hadn’t felt him shift in the seat at the same time.
The bright skyline behind Jungkook is a stark contrast to his slightly defeated posture. It seems as though the day has caught up with him and hit him hard.
“I should’ve waited. This was a date for us, not me. I was selfish,” he continues. “I can’t make an excuse because there aren’t any. I was a jerk.”
You don’t say anything, knowing that he isn’t finished by the crease forming between his eyebrows. He turns slightly and brings his eyes up to meet yours.
“I should always wait for you, Y/N. I will always wait for you. I love you so much.”
“You just walked out.”
“But, I said I love you!”
“You were a jerk.”
“I said that.”
“You were selfish.”
“Said that too.”
You smile gently, “I forgive you, Kookie.”
The relief that spreads through his body is probably visible from the ground. He pulls you into his side and gives you a lingering hug.
Right at that moment, an elaborate firework show begins to illuminate the skyline and carnival.
“Do you see the power you have? You forgive me and fireworks go off. My girlfriend controls the world!” He teases as he turns his head to look at you again.
“And my boyfriend is laying on the brown-nosing quite thick tonight.” You grin, leaning in and capturing his lips in the first kiss you two had shared that day. It had been a long day and this moment, this kiss, embodies all of the highs and lows. Leaning your forehead against his, you caress his cheek before opening your eyes.
You gasp.
“What?”
You continue to softly rub your thumb across his cheek, moving slightly higher until he flinches.
The warm colors of the fireworks cascade in your guilt-ridden eyes. “I’m so sorry, Kookie.” You supply quietly.
“You gave me a black eye, didn’t you?” He asks.
You nod meekly.
A finger under your chin brings Jungkook’s eyes back into focus.
“What goes around, comes around.” He shrugs and smiles. “Don’t apologize, it was an accident.”
“But your face…”
“Will heal.” He finishes for you. “Until then, I’ll look even more rugged.” He scrunches his face in a way that was intended to make him look intimidating, but it instead looks like you need to get off of the Ferris wheel and find the nearest bathroom.
You can’t help yourself: you giggle.
“There’s my girl!” He grins, pulling you back into his side. The two of you watch the firework show in silence until the end. As the final embers fizzle out, you look up at him.
I love you, Kookie.”
“And I love you.” He places a kiss on your nose. “Let’s go back to the hotel.”
You nod against his chest before pulling away, preparing to depart the ride.
Once firmly on the ground, you entwine his fingers with yours and tug him toward the concession stand for the fourth time that night.
“You’re still hungry?”
“No. Let’s get you some ice for the walk back.”
“Aww...that’ll get rid of it faster!” He complains. You place the faintest of kisses on the bruise.
He winces. “You’re right. Ice would be good.”
“Many receive advice, but only the wise profit from it.” You smirk while you wait.
“Well then, I must be the smartest man in the world.”
“And why is that?”
“I feel like I live the richest life.” He leans forward.
“You’re ego is showing again, Kookie.” You place the bag of ice gently on his cheekbone.
“And you’re keeping me in check. See? Smartest man right here!” He points to himself with his hand that is not holding the bag of ice.
Shaking your head, the two of turn in the direction of the hotel. You lean your head against his shoulder, one hand grabbing his pointing one and the other holds onto his upper arm.
“Thanks for catching up, Y/N.” He nearly whispers a few minutes later.
“Always”
A/N:  Our Kookie is still learning! I really enjoyed writing this! Please let me know what you think! (Even if it is just by leaving a ❤️ or giving a reblog!) Thanks for taking the time to read it!
What is a landing page? And how does it work?
Willemien Hallebeek
Willemien is Content Team Lead at Yoast. She loves to create and organize content in such a way that it helps people understand SEO Company.
As simple as they sound, landing pages might be a confusing topic for site owners. What qualifies as a landing page and what doesn’t? Is every page you land on a landing page? What about Landing Pages in Google analytics? And, can you optimize them for conversion and search engines? Let’s dive in!
What is a landing page?
In digital marketing agency, a landing page is a page specifically designed for one purpose: to make a visitor convert. Whether it’s signing up for an event, subscribing to a newsletter, or donating money to a charity; a landing page aims to do just that. Therefore it’s completely focused on a single action. The idea is that this focus and taking away possible distractions increase the chance of a conversion. Marketers typically create these types of pages as part of a marketing agency campaign.
An example
A nice example of a focused landing page for a campaign is this Red Nose Day landing page of Comic Relief:
The Red Nose Day landing page on the Comic Relief website
The headline immediately conveys the message of this page: Register your school for Red Nose Day 2021. The text on the call-to-action is crystal-clear too. Perhaps a different color would make it stand out a bit more, but still, it’s hard to miss. The page is focused as a result of its clean design and the absence of distractive elements. Moreover, if I’d work at a school the image of the happy little girl would make me want to participate right away.
This screenshot shows what you see above the fold on the desktop version of this site. If you scroll down you’ll find some other elements, like options to donate money or links to explanations where the money goes. You could think of these secondary buttons as distractions, but because they only appear when you scroll down, the first view of the page remains focused on its primary goal: getting schools to register for this event.
How do landing pages work?
Imagine getting an email from a local venue announcing a concert of your favorite band. Woohoo, you’re super excited to get tickets! You click on a link and end up on the homepage of the venue. You start looking for the schedule. When was it again? Maybe better use the search bar? O wait, a banner showing another awesome concert too. Hmmm…Maybe first discuss with your friends which band they’d like to go to?
The internet is full of distractions and landing pages of a marketing agency campaign try to get rid of all these distractions. In the above example, if you would have ended up on a page purely focused on this concert, providing the necessary details and an eye-catching call-to-action leading to the cart you probably would have purchased the tickets already.
If people click on a campaign link in your newsletter or social media post, you’ve already somehow sparked their interest in your event, charity or, whatever you’re promoting. As they’ve been exposed to the content they’ve clicked on, they probably already have a bit of context on the topic. That’s why they’re likely to be further in a user journey as someone landing on your site from an informational search query in Google. This means chances of conversion (subscribing, getting tickets, or buying something) are higher. So it does make sense to focus on the action of the user. Now you just have to make sure to make this action as easy as possible!
How to optimize them?
When you create a landing page for marketing agency purposes you first have to decide what you’d want people to do on that page. This shouldn’t be too hard if you have a clear goal for your campaign. In the example above, that would be selling tickets for that concert. If you know your goal, you can start optimizing the page for the target group and add all essential elements that should be on the page.
Essential elements: Inform and convince
Obviously, you should tailor a landing page to give your users what they need and convince them to participate at the same time. Therefore it’s indispensable you know your audience. Nevertheless, some elements are so common you can find them on almost every great landing page. We’ve listed them here for you:
a headline that conveys the message: what should the user do here?
a call-to-action (CTA) or a short form people can fill in right away
some essential details the user would want to know before clicking the CTA
visuals: an appealing image or short video (let’s say if you can win a state of the art coffee machine it makes sense to show it)
social proof (a quote of a happy user or participant, for instance)
in case of a purchase or donation: payment options
Remember: Keep it short and simple! To add more focus to your page you can even get rid of the menu, as it might lead people away from your page. Also, go easy on the links to other pages; they can do the same. If you do need to add links to other pages, consider adding them below the fold. The same counts for any secondary actions, like the donation button on the Red Nose Day page.
Also, don’t forget to test the page. If you build a landing page you’ve likely made some assumptions about what you’re audience needs/wants. Especially with these kinds of pages, focused on conversion, it pays off to A/B test them thoroughly! And, when you’ve built that one awesome landing page, be sure to clone it with the Yoast Duplicate Post plugin and use it as a template for your other landing pages.
Here you’ll find more tips on optimizing your landing pages.
What about Landing Pages in Google Analytics?
Landing pages of a marketing agency campaign are not to be confused with Landing Pages in Google Analytics. Landing Pages in Google Analytics are just a list of pages on your site that get the most traffic from external sources.
You’ll find Landing Pages in Google Analytics in the Behaviour tab
While a popular marketing agency landing page as mentioned above could be in this list, it doesn’t necessarily have to be. For instance, in our case, our post on choosing a focus keyword is one of our top Landing Pages in Google Analytics. But it wouldn’t fit the above the description of a landing page. It’s an explainer post helping people with setting the right focus keyphrase on a post they’re writing. It’s an informative post, not aimed at convincing people to sign up for something. People land on this page as they’d like to learn something or need help. Bombarding them with buttons would probably scare them away.
If some of your campaign’s landing pages are in this list, this post on the power of Landing Pages in GA will help you to analyze their performance though!
Landing pages and SEO
Do you want your landing page to rank? I can hear you say: Yes, of course! I want to get as many users as possible on this slick landing page I’ve created and tested! But, don’t forget that a page specifically designed for a campaign which mostly gets visitors from newsletters and social media, might not always be the best fit for searchers in Google.
You’ll have to ask yourself, is this the page people want to find when they’re searching for something? Or, would they like a more extensive article on the topic they’re interested in? Are they ready for subscribing or buying? Or do they have a different search intent? Where are those people in the user journey? As you’ve designed this page to convert, it might not be the best fit, apart from people actually searching for your event, contest, or campaign.
Of course, you can make sure the page is optimized for the exact term of the event. For other terms, it might be harder to rank with a page that is mostly focused on conversion and probably doesn’t have a lot of copy. Placing enough internal links to this page might as well help it rank for the exact term. If you do want to add content to the page, maybe even with links to more information on your site, you can best add it below the fold, as it might prevent people from converting. But again, ask yourself: what exactly is your goal of this page? It might be better to optimize it for one goal only!
Product pages vs. landing pages
One last thing: there’s a lot of overlap between product and landing pages. Some principles definitely apply to both: Both pages should be focused on conversion, with a clear headline, call-to-action, social proof, and probably a nice image or video. But a campaign often has a more temporary character. Also, your product page probably shows more details and maybe even a related products section, making it slightly less focused than a marketing agency campaign’s landing page. And of course, you’d definitely like your product page (or category page) to rank! If you want to dive into optimizing your product page, go read our post on Product page UX and Product page SEO.
Conclusion
In digital marketing agency, a landing page is a page designed to trigger a specific action of the user. It’s often created as part of a campaign and aimed at conversion: the page should convince the visitor to subscribe, participate or buy something. Therefore it’s very focused. It’s not to be confused with Landing pages in Google Analytics, which is a list of pages people land on from external sources. Depending on the goal of the page you can try to optimize the page for search engines too, but sometimes it’s better to keep it solely focused on conversion. Whatever you do, think about the goal of your page first!
Good luck with your landing pages. And feel free to drop your questions in the comments.
As you’ve designed this page to convert, it might not be the best fit, apart from people actually searching for your event, contest, or campaign.
Of course, you can make sure the page is optimized for the exact term of the event. For other terms, it might be harder to rank with a page that is mostly focused on conversion and probably doesn’t have a lot of copy. Placing enough internal links to this page might as well help it rank for the exact term. If you do want to add content to the page, maybe even with links to more information on your site, you can best add it below the fold, as it might prevent people from converting. But again, ask yourself: what exactly is your goal of this page? It might be better to optimize it for one goal only!
Product pages vs. landing pages
One last thing: there’s a lot of overlap between product and landing pages. Some principles definitely apply to both: Both pages should be focused on conversion, with a clear headline, call-to-action, social proof, and probably a nice image or video. But a campaign often has a more temporary character. Also, your product page probably shows more details and maybe even a related products section, making it slightly less focused than a marketing agency campaign’s landing page. And of course, you’d definitely like your product page (or category page) to rank! If you want to dive into optimizing your product page, go read our post on Product page UX and Product page SEO.
Conclusion
In digital marketing agency, a landing page is a page designed to trigger a specific action of the user. It’s often created as part of a campaign and aimed at conversion: the page should convince the visitor to subscribe, participate or buy something. Therefore it’s very focused. It’s not to be confused with Landing pages in Google Analytics, which is a list of pages people land on from external sources. Depending on the goal of the page you can try to optimize the page for search engines too, but sometimes it’s better to keep it solely focused on conversion. Whatever you do, think about the goal of your page first!
Good luck with your landing pages. And feel free to drop your questions in the comments.
