Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath (Hangman)
-- Something a little different today, as I was suddenly struck with this idea. This will be a series of oneshots for different characters from Top Gun based on the 7 cardinal sins.
Just as a heads up, these will not be in order because I don't have characters picked for all of the sins yet… Also in this series I write 'you' but there is an actual assigned name for the reader character --
Tumblr media
Hangman was very careful with his appearance. Hair gelled and brushed to the side, clean shaven face, and freshly pressed uniform finished off with an aftershave that never failed to get him compliments. He even had a skin care routine. And still you wouldn't look at him.
You wouldn't look when he threw three darts into the board's bullseye. You wouldn't look when he hit the pool balls without looking, trying to catch your eye. You wouldn't even look at him when he played dogfight football. And it wasn't the usual 'not watching' some of his hookups did, where they spent the night pretending to be shy and only looking at him when they thought he couldn't see. No, you were just not interested.
It made his blood boil.
He would spend the day trying to catch your attention, trying to impress you and you wouldn't even throw a crumb of attention his way.
You would speak to him, obviously, and sometimes you even joked, but it wasn't what he needed. You spoke to him like you might speak to a waiter, your banker, or a colleague. Flat pleasantries and meaningless small talk. He needed more. He craved more.
Everything he did was for you. It had always been for you. The clothes, the hair, the muscles, even the fucking medals had all been for you. And still you refused to fucking care.
Spending time with you, however brief and impersonal, left him frustrated and furious. He would drive to the gym and pound the boxing bag to a proverbial bloody pulp for hours on end until the rage he felt coursing through his veins died down enough that he could feel tired. Then he could finally sleep, his dreams being the only place where he found respite from your disinterest. In his dreams he was yours. You spoke, you laughed, you touched him, kissed him, fucked him. But then he would wake and the nightmare took over.
He would beg, and beg, and beg for you. But you never heard the prayers of "please look at me, pay attention to me, please fall in love with me."
Because Hangman knew that's what it was. It made him irrationally fucking angry that he had to suffer through loving you when you just didn't fucking care. He shouldn't have to feel his heart speed up when you enter a room only to have it shatter when you walk past him with barely a wave.
It made him so angry so --
"Wrath"
"What?" Hangman asked, looking at the person sitting next to him. He had just been pouring his heart out and that was the only thing his brother had managed to say.
"That's your sin. Wrath" Josh replied. He looked out into the distance. They were having coffee on his front porch. Jake had gone back to Texas to visit family and Josh had a spare bed. The adjustment had been harder than Hangman had thought. When he'd left his brother had just been his brother, now, he was a preacher with a house always full of people asking for advice. Finding a moment to talk to Josh had been a challenge. But when Jake hadn't been able to sleep in, he'd been thinking about you again, he had come down to find his brother making coffee.
"Yeah, because she'll fall in love with me if I just pray enough" He chuckled bitterly
"No, you need to overcome it. Praying is good, but the Lord wants you to do the work"
"And how do I overcome it, then"
"Patience"
It shook him to his core.
Patience
"What's her name?" Josh asked, completely oblivious to his brother frozen at his words
"Anah" Jake finally replied, Josh froze too
"Doesn't that mean --" he asked. Their mother somehow always knew what names meant, and it had rubbed off on both her boys.
"Perseverance and patience" Hangman replied still shocked, his brother laughed a loud bark and clapped him on his back
"Well if that ain't a sign, Jake"

hey :) i just wanted to ask for any random things you may have about nun lexa nsfw or not she’s just one of my favorite lexa’s of yours
Why yes I do!
One of Lexa's favorite places is the convent gardens. The extend beyond what the eye can see, always is bloom, so well kept by the nuns who find in it a quiet place for prayer and reflection. Although Lexa is rarely assigned garden duty as she is much more important in her teaching position, ever so often she'll be asked to watch over the novices as they tend to the garden, all still so young they tend to lose themselves in chatter.
Clarke is often seen here now, a clear addition to the view. She carries sacks of seeds and harvest produce, sweating under the hot sun as she pushes the small wheelbarrow around. Lexa rather enjoys watching her work, much stronger than the smaller novices that walk around, some of which seem to enjoy looking at the older woman as much as Lexa does before Lexa chastises them for it with only a glance.
The sun is high and hot when Lexa decides to excuse herself for a drink at the small well further down, nicely tuck in the shade wall and a tree, hidden from anyone who doesn't know it exists.
The coldness of the water is a miracle and Lexa thanks God for providing this little slice of shade that seems untouched by the flaming sun. The water drips down her chin freely and Lexa lets it, enjoying the coldness on her skin.
"Rather refreshing isn't it?"
Lexa opens her eyes immediately at the sound of Clarke's voice. That constant raspiness that never leaves it, the one that haunts her dreams and makes her ask for forgiveness as she lets it guide her hand between her legs.
"Have you come to quench you thirst as well?" Lexa asks rather innocently.
She tries to hide the way Clarke just standing next to her affects her but she has found herself rather unlucky at that. The linen fabric of her tunic clings to her body with sweat, showing in a rather scandalous fashion the curves of her upper body that make Lexa heart beat faster.
The smirk she wears only makes Lexa's breathing quicken along with her heart, "Oh, you have no idea."
It enrages her how she always finds herself like this, no matter how much she promises the lord that she will not sin like this again, will not let the devil tempt her heart like this no more.
But she is human, weak of flesh and blood. Commanded by a heart full of sin and a lust sent to test her faith over and over again.
"Clarke! Please!" She manages to half whisper to the woman hidden underneath the skirt of her habit, tongue devilishly lapping at her cunt as if it has not seen anything that resembles water in a millennia.
With a leg over Clarke's shoulder as the girl holds her hips in place, Lexa finds herself unable to push her fully away or so she pretends. It's easier like that. It is Clarke, the devilish witch that came to seduce her and strain her away from her path, she is the one who makes her, who forces her into such acts and try as she might Lexa cannot fight her, she can only pray her sins will be forgiven but it's all a farce after all, Lexa is the one who looks for the hidden places she knows Clarke will find her in, as long since been the one to deepen the kisses, to beg her for more.
And Clarke obeys her request, quickening the movements of her tongue, evolving Lexa's clit with her lips and sucking, leaving Lexa to wonder if the stars she sees behind her eyelids are a sign of God or the devil.
"Clarke! Oh Clarke!" It leaves her mouth like a forbidden hymn, the only name she wishes to say when euphoria travels through her, back against the wall, the delightful feeling that runs through her something only Clarke, not a God, ever managed to rip from her.
Clarke emerges from under the habit a disheveled mess, short hair climbing to her face as Lexa's released dripping from her chin freely and Clarke let's it.
She kisses her gently. Her lips taste like sweat and the sweet taste Lexa has come to recognize has her own. It's addicting to both. The kiss, the taste, the feeling that grows stronger between them. Lexa questions what will happen it becomes too much for them for these quick moments to no longer be enough.

"Get back here (Y/n)." Perseus huffed at his daughter, who was in the midst of storming out of their little house. "(Y/n)!" He shouted her name when she ignored him, sighing to himself when she mounted her horse and left. "That girl." He grumbled under his breath, rubbing his temples with frustration. "Father?" Helios approached his father, who smiled down at him. "Come on Helios, let's go back to dinner." Perseus rest his hand on his son's shoulder, unaware of (Y/n) watching him from a distance, a bitter scowl on her face. "He will always favor Helios." She hissed before ushering her horse on, journeying out into the world, to her sanctuary.
Upon arriving at her destination, (Y/n) dismounted her horse, leading him to a small nearby stream. "Stay here Ajax." She muttered as she pet his mane, knowing he'd stay regardless of if she commanded it or not. Afterwards she turned her attention to the narrow crevice in the cliff, the entrance to a complex system of tunnels and caves, one she knew all to well. She entered the system and began her journey to the central cave, the place she built into a second home for herself, and shrine to the Gods.
Shrugging off her bag she knelt before the next statue lining the far wall, praying to one God at a time for several years, hoping one day one of them would send her a sign that they were listening to her. "Great Ares God of war... Uncle." She bowed her head, in respect. "Show me a sign that you hear my prayers, and gift me with the strength to endure my father, and the neglect." (Y/n)'s eyes glossed over as she thought about her last encounter with her father, raising her head she looked to the statue of her uncle. "Help me quell the war within my heart." She begged before rising from her spot, she reached for her bag, and left an offering at Ares feet.
She froze upon the sound of wind whipping behind her, a new presence entering the cave, their curious eyes upon her. "You pray to me." Ares stated with a small tilt of his head, having been unaware of her existence as his niece, until she called out to him. "Yes." (Y/n) nodded her head, keeping her back to him. "Why?" He asked as he observed the room. "I have prayed to the Gods for many years, one at a time, and you were the next in line." She pointed to the statues before her, finally turning to face him, unable to look him in the eyes. "Why do you pray?" He asked with genuine curiosity. "I have no one else... The God's have been abandoned by humans, and I know what it's like to be abandoned, and so I looked for comfort with the Gods... But no one has ever answered until now." She spoke softly, though Ares could hear her plain and clear.
"Why don't you look me in the eyes?" Ares asked as he peered down at his niece, who kept her head bowed down, casting her eyes to the dirt covered floor. "I don't want you to see the damage inside them." She murmured softly, her words striking something within Ares's heart. "Look at me dear niece." He spoke softly as he tilted her head back, looking into her eyes finally, and seeing a familiar pain within them. "You are the daughter of Perseus." He stated. "I am." She muttered as her eyes glossed subtlety. "Tell me what you know of abandonment." Ares all but demanded, releasing his hold on her jaw, following her as she moved to sit at a small table. "When my brother was born, our mother died in childbirth... And ever since then, I have been forgotten by my father, in favor of Helios." She held her head up a bit higher, her anger bubbling back up again.
"It's been years and nothing has changed, well not for the better atleast. I've been neglected for so long, forgotten in favor of his precious son. When Helios turned two, I gave up on the prospect of earning my father's love back. I ran away for a short time, I found this place, and over the years built my shrine, and began praying to the Gods. Hoping that one day one of you would show me a sign that I'm not alone, that you're listening. It's all I've ever wanted." (Y/n) picked at a bit of the table that was splintering away. "I run away from home often, and I come here. I fought with my father again today, and I came here. He didn't even try coming after me, he never has..." She spoke quietly, unaware of how Ares's anger with Perseus only grew. "What is your name?" Ares asked gently. "(Y/n)." She smiled softly at him, chuckling at the curious look on his face. "It's a strange name I know, I was named after my wet nurse, and she was from a far way land." (Y/n) explained with a smile, her explanation making Ares smile as well.
"It's a lovely name." He complimented genuinely, grasping her smaller hand in his. "Come with me (Y/n), back to Olympus, where I will care for you as if you were my own." Ares offered with a smile, which widened a little at the sight of her excitement. "Really!?" She gasped as she sat up straighter. "Yes." He squeezed her hand softly, a laugh erupting from his chest when she practically dove into his chest, hugging him as if her life depended on it. "Please uncle please take me away from here." She pleaded with tears rolling down her cheeks. "Is there anything you want to take with you?" Ares asked as she released her hold on him, allowing him to stand to his full height. "Ajax." (Y/n) responded without hesitation. "Who is Ajax?" Ares asked as (Y/n) began leading him out of the cave system. "My horse, he was the last gift my mother gave me before she died." (Y/n) explained, pointing to the stallion in question when they exited the cave. "Very well." Ares smiled before transporting them all to Olympus.
---A month later---
Again his search was in vain, he could find no sign of (Y/n), or even Ajax. With a defeated sigh he cast his eyes to the horizon, unable to bring himself back home to Helios empty handed again. "Father I need your guidance." Perseus muttered plainly, afraid he'd never find her on his own. "What is it my son?" Zeus asked as he appeared behind Perseus. "It's (Y/n)... She's been missing for a month, and I cannot find any trace of her. I need your help." Perseus explained, frowning when Zeus smiled. "We will find her, come with me." Zeus offered Perseus his hand, transporting him to the Grey Sisters. Perseus scowled at the sight of them once more, though he stepped forward as Zeus encouraged. "Ah Perseus comes back to us." One of the sisters pointed out as she held the eye, shrinking back when she noticed Zeus behind him. "And he brought Zeus with him." She hissed, the other sisters shrinking back upon hearing her words.
"I need you to tell me where my daughter is." Perseus demanded, the sisters giggling simultaneously. "The daughter of Perseus wants nothing to due with him anymore, she has found a new father to take his place." The sister with the eye snickered sinisterly. "What is that supposed to mean?" Perseus growled in anger. "You neglected her for to long young Perseus, she turned her back on you the way you did to her. Your brother Ares took your place, and took her to Olympus to care for as his own." The sisters laughed again, only further angering Perseus, who turned that anger to his father. "You knew." He accused, despite the confusion in Zeus's eyes. "I knew nothing of this." Zeus argued, whisking himself and Perseus back to Olympus. When they reached Olympus they barged into Ares's hall, to find him laughing as he taught (Y/n) how to fight with a sword. "(Y/n)!" Perseus exclaimed as he rushed to her side, freezing in his tracks when Ares stepped between them, shielding (Y/n). "Get away from her." Perseus hissed at his brother, who only smiled at him. "I was going to say the same thing to you." Ares taunted only angering Perseus more.
"(Y/n) come here." Perseus demanded as he glared at his brother. "No." (Y/n) shook her head, sheathing the sword Ares had gifted her with, she moved to stand beside her Uncle. "What?" Perseus frowned at her. "I'm staying here with Ares, you can go back home. Be with your favorite child, and leave me here with my chosen father." (Y/n) hissed at Perseus who bowed his head in shame, knowing well how wrong he had treated her. "You are my daughter." Perseus muttered as he looked to her with sad eyes. "I haven't been your daughter in a long time." She turned her back on him, walking away. "She'll be safer here." Ares mused casually, glaring at his father before looking to Perseus. "She's already happier." He added making Perseus feel even worse. "If you're truly happy here (Y/n)." Perseus began, drawing (Y/n)'s attended to him. "Then I will leave you be, but know we'll always be waiting for you to return to us." He promised, though his words held no weight to her. "You'll be waiting in vain Perseus." She stated emotionlessly, the use of his name stinging to Perseus.
Perseus left the hall and waited for Zeus to join him, shameful tears welling in his eyes, for having pushed his only daughter away so much, that she turned her back on him. "How long were you planning on hiding her from me?" Zeus asked Ares who placed a comforting hand onto (Y/n)'s shoulder. "I wasn't hiding her, you just never noticed." Ares retorted before turning his attention solely to (Y/n), the daughter he never knew he wanted. "I am sorry Perseus." Zeus tried as he exited the hall, feeling sorry for his son. "Just take me back home, Helios needs me." Perseus wiped away the tears within his eyes, turning to Zeus with a hard face, trying to bury the pain he was feeling. "Very well." Zeus nodded before sending Perseus back with the wave of his hand. A sigh escaping the old Gods throat, while laughter and swords clashing together could be heard from within Ares's hall.

Stage 8: God
Click here to go to the Seventh Stage
My mom actually isn't a religious person at all. She sometimes skips the praying routine, not feeling guilty at all. But when it comes to me rebelling, she's a saint. Waking up at 4 a.m. to pray, and even controlling how should I sit to pray, my hands, my eyes, and how my mouth speak. She prays on time, but after the heat is down, she'll procrastinate her own prayer again.
I like to pray in secret. I don't like people looking at me while I ask God for something I didn't deserve. But at least I never took him for granted. I pray everyday, in secret. Without anybody noticing. That is probably why people gets mad at me. They think I didn't pray.
Her mom know this better than anyone, that the best prayer are the one that was done in secret. And I did that all the time, so I like to excuse myself to another room to pray, to talk to God.
It just felt so much more intimate, more serene, and I could ask for whatever it is I wanted, because it's only me and God.
But mom asking me to pray out loud in front of everybody present just doesn't seem right. Praying alone, without anyone knowing is a sign that a person just want to praise the Lord, in all religious purposes. But praying in front of people, most of the time, means that the person praying is only seeking for approval that they are praying.
"Oh, such a good girl, praying in front of us." No, the good girl isn't praying, she's looking for attention. God doesn't like it, and it's also considered as a sin.
Why can't her mom just let her be?
Even when I finally could go somewhere else with my dad, I couldn't stop thinking about how my life was taken from me. He looks intrigued by my silence and little sobs, but did nothing to ask.
My father doesn't care about me, even when he heard everything I said to mom. Not even if he stared at me, tears falling down in public places, he just pretend he doesn't know. A safe bet, he'll just throw a little joke so that I could chuckle politely, while choking on my own tears.
We're on our way home, and he drives recklessly. He drives so close to other vehicles to cut ways, but when it gets too close to a crash, he'll pull the brake suddenly all the time. I usually gets angry, and scolded him all the way home, but now I'm just glad. I wish there will be an accident hitting on me. I don't even use my helmet properly, just waiting for fate to pick me up from here.
Because... why bother? What life will I live after this? Might be better, right?
Finally, I reached the point that I felt numb. It all hurts, it all stings, but it's all silenced, sealed inside me.
I face my mother with my swollen eyes. She shakes her head, can't think of a reason why would I feel sad when I have everything that she and dad has given to me? I'm ungrateful bitch.
I chuckled looking at her. "What? You hate me? Same. I hate me too."
Her mom was glaring at her, aligning the words in her head to spit out. She's so angry. This kid has no gratitude over what I gave her.
"The only difference is..." I started talking again. "You hate me because I'm not obeying you." I pointed to her. "And I hate myself for not living my own life."
I'm tilting my head left and right, I feel so dizzy that I have no control over my neck. Like a crazy person. "Why don't I go to a party? Why don't I wear whatever the fuck I want? Why don't I work however I want?"
Mother is clenching her jaw, just too close to flipping the dining table.
But I'm not done talking. "And for God, dear mother, how I see him is different than how you do. You see Him as a punisher, as a frightful owner. I, see Him as a forgiver. The most loving, merciful." I laughed hysterically. "I love God, while you're just scared of Him."
Next, (please show some support if you like the story, or not, whatever. Go to the 'God' chapter and continue reading, because I cropped the story so you can enjoy there, hehe. Leave a comment! Ty!) The Final Stage

Hello! This is my first time requesting. Can I get a Prompto x reader where the reader has a crush on Prompto, but she is afraid that she'll never get a chance with him? Since you know, he's always talking about and fawning over Cindy. And because of that, the reader develops hanahaki disease. You can google that, but it's basically like the victim is constantly throwing/coughing up flower petals due to suffering from unrequited love. Sprinkle some of that angst and make me cry!! Thank you! xoxo
Okay. So, I was halfway through a request when this one camein and I FELL IN LOVE. I had never heard of hanahaki before this and I havesince read and looked at dozens of fics/artwork that revolves around this. Ilove the idea of this tragically beautiful condition being a result ofunrequited love. Thank you so very much for sending in this request. I hope youlike it even half as much as I have enjoyed researching/writing this.
For this story, I chose to use blue forget-me-not flowerswhich are said to symbolize true love – and they remind me of the color ofPrompto’s eyes. I did add some fantastical elements with the coloring sothey’re not the pretty light blue you typically see.

Flowers were something pure and beautiful, something thathad to fight to survive. How something so delicate yet captivating managed tobloom even in the harshest of environments was truly something to be admired. Youhad picked a large daisy from beside the road in Hammerhead before approachingthe garage. As expected, Prompto followed the beautiful grease monkey, Cindy Aurum, around like a lost puppy.
“He loves me not,” you continued as you pulled yet anotherpetal from the daisy. A small part of you felt bad for dismembering the smallflower of its innocent white petals, but you thought it was better to take outyour aggression on the small flower rather than to mope. “He loves me,” yousighed plucking the last petal. Prompto Argentum did not love you. Yet, youwere helplessly in love with him and nothing you tried helped to erase him fromyour mind.
The sound of his breathy, free laughter caught yourattention and you turned towards the garage. Prompto leaned against the hood ofthe Regalia as Cindy worked beneath the car. Something she said must have beenfunny because the blonde, Chocobo-loving man you loved tipped his head back inlaughter.
Crushing the remains of the daisy in your hand, you turnedand headed back towards Takka’s where you were supposed to meet the others forlunch. As you made your way, you bowed your head and sent up a whispered prayerto whatever Astral was willing to listen. “Please, help me to get over him.Help me to not love him,” you pulled at the roots of your hair for a moment.“Or just help him see,” you begged under your breath before sliding into thebooth beside Gladio. When he asked where Prompto was, you forced a smile andtold him that the sharpshooter was preoccupied and that the rest of you shouldorder.
Lunch went quickly, all of you too hungry or muchconversation outside of decided your next move. Prompto stayed in the garagebut Noctis thought enough to grab him an order of fries and a water before youall headed back towards the Regalia. As expected, the car was shiny and cleanand in perfect condition once more. As the five of you piled back into the car,you found yourself in your usual spot between Gladio and Noctis. You had nearlydrifted off to sleep to the soothing drone of the engine with a scratch at theback of your throat had your eyes watering.
Gladio watched you curiously and you caught Ignis’ gaze inthe reflection of the rearview mirror as you sipped from your water bottle. Youtried to offer him a thumbs up but you covered your mouth as you coughed.Pulling you hand away, your eyebrows drew together in confusion.
“Is that a flower?” Gladio leaned closer to get a betterlook at the small violet-blue bloom in your hand.
Nodding, you fingered the delicate blood carefully as youinspected it. The petals were a beautiful violet-blue with a lighter purplefading around the tips. with a puffy yellow center. “A forget-me-not,” youmumbled.
Gladio’s chest rumbled with a laugh. “When did you starteating flowers?” Though he laughed and was clearly joking, the worried look onyour face quickly shut him up.
You definitely hadn’t ingested any flowers in your lifetime. You weren’t going to start with what you were certain was one of the prettiestyou had ever seen. Swallowing what felt like a growing lump in your throat, your fingers spread and the wind that ripped through the Regalia as you spedtowards camp blow the flower away.
Unfortunately, that would not be the only forget-me-not youwould encounter. Your cough grew worse and with it, more flowers. Since thefirst one in the car, you managed to hide the blossoms from the others forseveral weeks. You were always careful to carry water in your pack and to giveyourself some room from the others in case more of the delicate blooms left you– and they always appeared in greater numbers with each bout.
Everyone seemed to notice your discomfort and your worseningcondition – even if they didn’t know about the flowers. Ignis seemed to staycloser to you, always checking on your condition and offering you teas in hopesof soothing your throat. Noctis was quick with warping to ensure that youdidn’t need to strain yourself when in the midst of battle and Gladio alwaysoffered you a shoulder when you breathing became a bit ragged. Prompto seemedworried, his violet eyes wide when he rushed to your side but he seemedclueless on what to do. Usually, he settled for holding your hand and offeringyour water to you but his seemingly constant proximity pulled at your heartstrings.
The blonde gunman seldom left your side. When camping, hehad rearranged his sleeping bag so that he could be closer to you and insistedthat out of everyone, he could deal with losing some sleep the best in order totake care of you. He fluttering about made you nervous and also made it harderfor you not to want to reach out for him and pull him in close. You wanted tokiss him and tell him how you felt but nearly every time you worked up thecourage, he would let slip the name of the mechanic with the cute springy curlsand you would go right back to your awkward coughing self.
Prompto’s insistence made it harder to conceal the bloomsthat continued to escape from your mouth. There had to have been a few timesthat he had noticed something, but he hadn’t commented or shown any realizationfarther than the knitting of his brows and a hand on your shoulder.
Somewhere amongst the coughing and the wheezing, you realizedthat this was your gift from Shiva. You had prayed to her numerous times aboutyour feelings for Prompto. The ice goddess was known for her weakness forhumans and it was rumored that if true love were to grow between two people, she was the Astral that would ensure it would come to pass. After praying onceagain to the Glacian before bed that she may grant you some sort of relief, youawoke to a frozen forget-me-not beside your head on the pillow.
Hanahaki disease worked quickly. In the legends you read asa child, the person inflicted would usually die a slow and painful death – onethat was brought on by the restriction of the airways by the flowers that beganto fill the lungs. The type of flower usually differed from story to story andthe moment you had seen the beautiful little forget-me-not in your hand, youknow exactly what they meant: true love. It also didn’t help that the bloomswere the exact same color as a certain sharpshooter’s eyes. Judging by the rateof your wheezing, you didn’t have long.
It was late. Late enough the Noctis had been out for hoursand both Gladio and Ignis had turned in as well. You had leaned yourselfagainst a rock as you looked out at the silent ocean in the calm evening.Between coughs and wheezes, you scribbled down your thoughts into theleather-bound notebook you had been carrying around for days. Hopefully, onceyou had drowned in the pretty blue petals of your unrequited love, Prompto andthe others would find it and your heartfelt words along with it.
Glancing up, you found Prompto leaning back against anotherrock not far from yours. His eyes were closed and the wind had blown some ofhis bangs into his face, partially covering his freckles and sleeping face. Hereally did look like a sleeping angel.
Several large blooms, larger than the flower would naturallygrow, fell from you mouth but you made no move to stop them. A growing pile ofthem surrounded you. What a beautiful way to die, you thought with a smile. Inthe morning, they would find you in a soft pile of the flowers on the beach. Asingle tear slipped from your eye and stained the page you were writing on. Youhad filled the journal with notes for each of the men you had come to care somuch for. There were sketches from your travels, jokes between you, poems, writings, confessions, and secrets. You had saved your confession to Promptofor last. Getting the words out was harder than you had expected because youonly had one chance to let him know your feelings. One chance to say it theright way and hopefully he would remember you in a positive light and as morethan the poor unloved girl that had died amongst the flowers.
You had just finished signing your name when a harsh coughwracked your body and a particularly large bloom fell from your lips. With asmile, you pressed the flower into the journal before setting it aside andcasting one final glance towards Prompto. Your coughing must have disturbed himbecause his eyes fluttered once before he rubbed at his eyes.
He mumbled your name once as you leaned your head backagainst the cold rock. You heard him scramble to his feet, calling your nameloudly as he reached for you in the mess of flowers. “What’s going on? Please, say something,” he begged you.
Opening your mouth to reassure him, you choked on anotherwave of the flowers and your eyes burned from the lack of oxygen in your lungs. You gripped Prompto weakly as he cradled you to his chest.
“Hanahaki,” Ignis mumbled as he approached the two of you.Between your coughs and Prompto’s panic, the others had filed out of the tentto see what was the matter. “I should have realized sooner.”
Noctis looked far more awake than he ever had at that timeof night. “Why haven’t we seen more of the flowers before?”
Another spell had your body shaking and the tears flowingfreely. Your hand on Prompto’s chest slipped as your head grew foggier. “Prom,”you gasped out.
“I don’t understand,” Prompto carefully cradled you in hisarms as he looked between you and Ignis. “Where are they coming from?”
Ignis held a grim expression as he kneeled down beside you.“The flowers are a sign of unrequited love. Whoever is inflicted with themeventually dies. The flowers continue to build up in their chest until theperson no longer possesses the ability to breathe, I’m afraid.”
Prompto’s grip tightened around you in hopes of stoppingyour violent shaking through the coughs. “Unrequited love,” he repeated andstared into your face.
Gladio kneeled down and fingered a blossom the size of hispalm. “True love, judging by these. They’re a symbol of true love.” Gladioclapped Prompto on the shoulder and squeezed it gently. The look on his facewas the same as those worn by both Ignis and Noctis.
“Me?” Prompto croaked as tears flooded his eyes.
Your head had begun to feel foggy and if he hadn’t help youso tightly, you knew you wouldn’t have had the strength to keep yourself up.You did, however, pitifully twist and reach blindly for the journal. Noctisgrabbed it and handed it over to his best friend who opened the pages directlyto the one you had written for him, the beautiful flower falling from thepages.
As he read, his eyes darting back and forth across thescribbled words though his tears, he choked back a sob. You mumbled his name againin hopes of reassuring him, telling him it really was okay. As you had written, dying was not something you were afraid of. After all, it had taken your deathfor you to tell the man of your dreams how you felt. Shiva had granted you akindness in allowing you to go in such a peaceful way rather than at the handsof some deamon.
Prompto dropped the book and pulled you into his lap so thathe could look you directly in the face. He wiped the stray tears from your eyesand whispered your name in broken sobs until you opened your eyes for what youknew would be the last time. Fitting that it would be his face that you sawbefore you crossed into whatever awaited you. Your only hope was that you wouldremember every detail of his perfect, freckled face and the depth of his eyes.
“No. This is not the end for you, it can’t be.”
Noctis moved closer. “Prom, I don’t think –“
“She’s not dying here,” he snapped but he kept his eyes onyours. You couldn’t help the fraction of a smile that ghosted your lips at thesimilarity in his irises to the petals of the flowers you were drowning in.Prompto cradled your head and spoke your name forcefully until you managed tofocus on him. “I am not saying goodbye to you here. You are going to live avery long and happy life if I have anything to do with it.”
Your intended words turned to gasps as more flowers brokefree. You couldn’t breathe at all and Prompto saw the realization in your eyes.
Prompto tore his gaze to Ignis, who had taken his glassesoff and was doing his best to remain composed at the sight of your dying bodyclutched in his arms. “Unrequited means not returned, right?” He looked at theadvisor expectantly. When he gave him a reluctant nod, Prompto nodded once.Leaning in close, he spoke so that he knew you could hear him even in yourdaze. “Stay with me,” he begged.
His soft lips pressed to yours with careful force andconfidence. His touch seemed so far away and yet your body yielded to hisperfectly. Even when he felt you go limp in his arms, Prompto kissed you withdelicate determination as if his touch could pour some of his own life forceinto your body. His fingers carded through your hair and his free hand pressedinto your hip and pulled you closer. He touched you like a dying man in searchof water, his body deprived of the sensation of yours. His love for you washedover you like a tidal wave.
“Prom,” Gladio tried to pull him away.
Prompto growled and broke the kiss gasping for breath.“Please, come back to me,” he peppered your face with kisses. Cradling yourhead in his hands, you kissed you once more before choking off a sob. “Please,Shiva above, don’t leave me now. Not when I didn’t even say it…” he trailedoff.
The night air was silent, even the ocean seemed to lie inwait. The only sound was that of Prompto’s sobs into your shoulder, your bodystill clutched against him.
Gasping, a torrent of tiny, half frozen forget-me-not bloomsfell from your lips. A thin coating of ice caked the delicate skin of your lipsas you swallowed, your airways clear of flowers for the first time in weeks.
Prompto stiffened, his arms locking around your waist infear he was imaging it all. He didn’t dare speak your name until you had pulledback enough to see his face. Tears filled both of your eyes at the realizationthat you were breathing again. You met for another kiss, this one soft andquick as if you both feared it wasn’t real.
“What was it you wanted to tell me?” you asked against hislips. The sot smile of your face lit up your eyes and colored your cheeks in alight blush.
Grinning from ear to ear, Prompto picked a flower from yourhair. “Shiva must’ve heard me,” he teased and pressed a kiss to your nose. Onlyafter you whined did he relent. Giggling, the blonde leaned his forehead toyours. “I love you, too,” he promised.
Squealing, you tacking him and the two of you fell into thesand in a torrent of laughter that was soon joined in by the others. Leaning onhis chest, tugged at his fringe and sealed his words with a kiss.
