“Things are looking great. Strong heartbeat, baby is measuring about a week later than what you are. Still don’t want to know the sex?” you smiled, shaking your head. “Nope, leave it as a surprise for my shower.” you said as Brooke grinned.

You sent the photo to Chris, ‘28 weeks. Everything looks good. Baby is measuring around 29 weeks. Shower is Sunday at 2pm.’ the message was read but not responded to. “We should get back before sunday.” you told Brooke as she walked in with bags packed. “Jet’s gonna take off in about 30 minutes. We gotta go.”

“Ah! Do you love it?!” Brooke grinned as you held up the little black leather jacket. “Its so cute!!” you gasped grinning at it. The doorbell rang and then the door opened.

Chris held out a hand as several of his men carried in beautifully wrapped gifts, the room quieted down and everyone watched as he walked over taking a seat amongst all the other women. “Sorry we’re late, my gift wrapper was a little slower today.” he smiled as you glared at him.

set in a cyberpunk Calcutta-inspired city, loosely inspired by Aladdin

chaotic monkey bot who wants to fight in underground mecha/bot tournaments and leave to become a space hero

his human sister, the daughter of failed revolutionaries who has been working her whole life to free their city from oppression and inequality, especially with the recent rumors that their planet is scheduled for destruction

and an old unearthed bot whose function is to observe & record the story of a client who meets the siblings and quickly becomes involved in their lives

and a treasure hunt to find an old and powerful piece of alien tech that has the power to radically change their city

#The Jinn-Bot of Shantiport #aroaessidhe 2024 reads #I really loved this #a little robot with a big personality? TWO of them? im in.#The pacing is a bit weird - the first half could honestly be a contained novella. the second half is a bit all over the place #But I’m ultimately glad to have that extra more complex part of the story #it’s like very action packed with a few dense moments especially like the infodumps about what Lina / her mother’s deal is.#which kinda makes sense on a technical level (Moku learning this all at once) but also I definitely felt a bit confused at why/how some of #the stuff that was going on was happening #I did also find every now and then weirdly worded prose took me out of it? but I can look past that #I felt the side romance was random and weird. I felt like it did a disservice to her otherwise complex character to have her just forget #her goals and values because Hot Man?#idk. it’s lampshaded a bit by being viewed through the POV who also thinks it is weird and makes no sense #but they still get together again in the end…. I would have preferred if they didn’t.#that's mostly complaints LOL but the world is so rich and interesting and i love robots that are little shits (affectionate)#queer books

Modern aus are a lot of fun and i do understand the narrative signifcance of power and class in mdzs and to preserve characterization you may find the need to replicate that in a modern story but please stop making Nie Mingjue a ceo. Why would you do that to him? Stop taking him out of his natural habitat (in the forest chopping wood with his shirt off) the office environment does NOT provide him with enough enrichment!

Literally no one believes in stunts anymore, always the same process, the same jacket to be seen, I don't understand why they insist without fear of being ridiculous?

Plus it's showbiz, it's always ridiculous and has always run on stunts. Lots of people believe it and think they're 'oh so cute together', so I'm sure they're just fine. We also can't forget Harry is still closeted and this is the industry's way of keeping him in there for the foreseeable future.

What I'm gathering from that last post is that poor people in the richer countries are finally experiencing what it's like to be poor in the third world, which I don't say in a mocking or resentful sort of way. Rather, if even the people in the rich West are starting to look very much like the people plundered for that wealth, then we really are reaching the point where economic class being a stronger point of identity than nationality will become undeniable
