Revisiting Resident Evil Village (a full analysis)

Spoilers!!

Resident Evil Village is the continuation of Ethan Winters’ story. It follows from Resident Evil 7 in a linear fashion and ends up vaguely erasing the constant feeling of tension and turning up the amp on campiness. The game itself had a couple sections where I did feel scared but unlike the game before it I was not constantly terrified. It does better in my opinion as a survival game than as a survival horror game. In this analysis I will evaluate all of my good, bad and mediocre opinions on the plot, characters, terrifying sections and the game's tone. 

The plot:

Resident Evil Village follows Ethan Winters after his seemingly new normal life after Louisiana  is destroyed by someone who was meant to be his friend (Chris Redfield). His main quest is to find his daughter in a form of medieval village similar to the main village in Resident Evil 4 (There are quite a few similarities throughout the game). The village surrounds a giant castle which is Ethan’s first goal. After defeating monsters of multiple kinds within the castle, Ethan is informed that his child has in-fact been split into multiple pieces and is being kept by the various lords. Ethan’s quest now is to find the disassembled parts of his daughter and hopefully put them back together again, while facing creatures of many types repeatedly throughout his quest. Eventually he manages however, he does not make it out to see her survive. This game is incredibly tragic, a perfect end to Ethan’s story instead of making him a character who never dies due to plot armour. This also prevents the game from ever bringing him back and giving other characters motivation for Resident Evil 9. It prevents the curse of a character slowly becoming worse the more they are brought back throughout the series. 

Character Analysis:

Ethan Winters:

Ethan is now more well versed when it comes to dealing with harsh areas like this. Not only does he have his experience in Louisiana but it is also implied that he did training with Chris Redfield after that. He is now a dad, well settled with ‘Mia’ and enjoying his life. Until it is all thrown out of the window by Chris. Who kills ‘Mia’ and kidnaps both Rose and Ethan. Then Ethan is thrown back into an awful situation like Louisiana, trying to both escape and get his daughter back. He is still more normal than the average Resident Evil protagonist, when Leon came back for Resident Evil 4 he had undergone intense training to turn him from a S.T.A.R.S rookie into a government agent well versed in combat. However, Ethan is still a normal dude with his only training being gained from just being thrown into the Baker residence in the previous game. Like I said in my analysis of Resident Evil 7, this makes him relatable and fun to play as. This also makes him funny, he has stupid one liners that you doubt he’d have if he was massively trained. Again comparing him to Leon, Ethan is more relatably funny due to his reactions, whereas Leon doesn't have much of a reaction and simply tells a joke. Ethan is a tragic hero, going to insane lengths to save Rose yet he cannot see her grow up after saving her. He chooses to kill himself to save her making him relatable to any parents who are playing the game. He only has character growth through this game and makes the game more fun.

Chris Redfield:

Chris is another character we play as in the game, in a small section after Ethan 'dies'. There isn't much to be said about him apart from how tough he seems to be. Hardened by constant military training as well as constantly dealing with bioweapons. However, we see a soft side to Chris when Ethan hands him Rose telling him to care for her. Chris wants to save him, get him back to his home. He may also feel a small amount of guilt to storming his house and making all of this happen. Chris is set up as the main character for the next game, finding a bioweapon in a helicopter.

Lady Dimitrescu:

Lady Dimitrescu was likely the driving force behind Resident Evil Village's marketing campaign. Many people who had never played Resident Evil before played this game simply for her. I'm going to refrain from discussing her appearance and attempt to simply discuss her character. The first time we catch a glimpse of Lady Dimitrescu, she is arguing with Heisenberg over who gets to 'take care' of Ethan. She makes a point that she is the most loyal to Mother Miranda yet is the first of the lords we battle as Ethan. When we see her after that she begins simply taunting Ethan. She wants to eat him and savour his taste, commanding her daughters to string him up for her. We come close to her but not fighting her occasionally at the beginning. However, it is only after we kill one or two of her daughters that she begins to stalk Ethan throughout her castle. Before she begins stalking him we see her get angry at Mother Miranda's decision to keep him alive (pictured in the GIF above). She was clearly beginning to doubt Mother Miranda's power and her decisions. The only reason I believe she continued to hunt Ethan was because of pride and grief due to him murdering her daughters. Eventually Ethan makes her mutate into a dragon format. This is her boss fight, a disgusting dragon form who attempts to kill and eat Ethan throughout. After finally managing to take her down, she tries to bring Ethan with him yet he survives. She is rather tragic with her end, and the fact she served Mother Miranda yet her home was left unprotected and her daughters were murdered by Ethan's rampage. She is completely centred with her pride and that is the reason she attempts to murder Ethan when her loyalty to Mother Miranda is clearly wavering anyway.

Bella, Cassandra and Daniela:

The three daughters of Lady Dimitrescu don't have many defining features. Their main one is corruption, being addicted to the taste of Ethan's blood. They aren't too hard to deal with when it comes to their boss fights and again their connection to their mother is greatly tragic. Listening to Lady Dimitrescu shout in pain when discovering one of her daughters can be rather heart-breaking to hear.

Donna Beneviento and Angie:

Donna and Angie are made known to be the same character yet their actual personalities are very split. This leads to show that Donna may have a split personality disorder or only be able to showcase her true personality through Angie (her puppet). Donna herself is shy, either invisible completely or covered in a cloth. The only times we see her face is when Ethan eventually kills her and a portrait of her in the main house. The rest of the time she is Angie. Donna herself only has one line where she tells Ethan that she can't let him take her part of Rose. This again shows that the only reason she has to stop Ethan is because of the punishment she will face at the hands of Mother Miranda. Angie however, is very cocky and quite a nightmare to deal with. Her voice is annoying and she serves the purpose of irritating the player. However, her boss fight is pretty easy, its just a glorified game of hide and seek. The only issue with her area is the entire concept of the basement which I will touch on later. All in all, the worst part about these two as a collective is how annoying Angie is.

Moreau:

Moreau is the disgusting creature of this game. A bundle of flabby skin, eye like pustules and weird tentacles that leave his body. As well as a babbling voice, constantly vomiting and the general area he lives in. It all combines to make him truly disgusting and unsettling. While I don't believe he is the most disgusting enemy in the entire Resident Evil series, he still makes me almost retch at the sight of him. Moving away from the pure body horror that he is. He again is tragic. With an unrequited love to Mother Miranda even though she decides to push him down. The other Lords also bully him, referring to him as a freak or ugly. The entire reason he attacks Ethan is because he wants to be better than the other Lords. His character is on the basis of being better as he has always been put down. Even Ethan constantly insults him, and its obvious why considering his appearance. Moreau also hunts Ethan through the water being quite easy to fight once the water has been drained. After he has been killed, he screams for Mother Miranda, swells up and explodes. As Ethan says, even in death he is disgusting.

Karl Heisenberg:

He is the final lord and as the Duke says 'the most dangerous' . His powers are incredibly interesting compared to the rest as he can control metal. He is also increasingly intelligent compared to the other Lords. Building a robotic army through his factory. He also is very against Mother Miranda. He wants to utilise Rose's power and team up with Ethan in order to crumble Miranda's empire. He is also constantly testing Ethan, from their first encounter where he tests his survival skills without weapons till sending Ethan to the Lycan den to retrieve the final piece of Rose. He wants to see how effective Ethan will be at defeating Mother Miranda. He is simply misunderstood, a child roped into Miranda's corruption and he wants to break away from that. Yet Ethan doesn't see this and not only murders him but with the help of Chris he destroys Heisenberg's entire factory and army. Heisenberg is not in anyway a villain, he classes as an enemy in my eyes but never a villain. He has no malicious intent originally, he only seeks out to murder Ethan after he refuses to help him kill Mother Miranda. His boss fight is one of the most interesting boss battles throughout the entire Resident Evil series, it isn't too hard or too easy but it is really fun to do.

Mother Miranda:

Mother Miranda has been mentioned multiple times throughout this review. She is the main antagonist, the others can be argued as simple enemies not villains. They are all vaguely tragic yet Miranda isn't. She is likely one of the most important villains and possibly even one of the most important characters in the entire Resident Evil series! On the basis of her importance in Resident Evil 8, she takes the form of Mia at the beginning in order to get close to Rose. She wishes to use infant Rosemary Winters to resurrect her own daughter who tragically met her end. She is a very mysterious character till right at the end. An old woman who is seen as a devout worshipper while Ethan talks to and about her was actually Mother Miranda in disguise. To me this kind of seems both self-centred and insecure. Mother Miranda believes herself worthy of worship, yet must do it herself in order to gain the others trust. The other two times we see her before the end, is killing a villager in a field and deciding Ethan's 'fate' when it comes to which Lord can kill him. She is rather mysterious till right after Ethan kills Heisenberg. When she reveals herself to him and 'kills' him. However, her entire place in the series originates before the first game. Without, Mother Miranda, Umbrella corporation would have never been founded by Oswell E. Spencer. She also influenced him to develop the T-virus. It is revealed that Mother Miranda discovered the umbrella symbol that Spencer adopted as the logo for his company. Without Miranda the entire series would practically crumble. With her importance it will be interesting to see how they beat her character in Resident Evil 9.

The Duke:

There isn't much to really say about the Duke apart from him being even more mysterious than Mother Miranda. He aids Ethan throughout the game, not only selling or purchasing items from him, but also informing him about Rose being inside the jars and rescuing him after Mother Miranda 'kills' him. He has an entire mystery around his motives and who he is. He even alludes to being friends with the Merchant from Resident Evil 4, which is possibly a simple reference to the similarity of the games or it could be a small part of lore dropped in to connect the games. People even believe that the Merchant and the Duke are the same person, however I doubt this theory is true. There is also an entire mystery around how a man his size can get around with the amount of stuff he has. He is also never attacked throughout the game either by basic enemies or the actual villains, which is strange as he constantly assists Ethan. I understand that his lore is more revealed in the Rose DLC, however I unfortunately have not got around to playing it yet (so I wont talk about Rose).

General enemies:

Lycans:

The Lycans are the first enemies we encounter in the game. At first they are slightly mysterious, tugging an animal corpse away from Ethan. Then we get our first main battle. Where Ethan gets chased around a small portion of the village by multiple Lycan's and a giant bearded Lycan until a bell rings and they all leave. This is again similar to our first main encounter in Resident Evil 4, where Leon is chased by both Ganado's and a Ganado wielding a chainsaw, until a bell rings and they all retreat into the church. The Lycans then begin roaming the village constantly throughout the game, having multiple versions getting harder each time. From Lycan's with armour, crossbows or even giant wolves we will occasionally encounter. Ethan even gets the last part of Rose from the Lycan den, where we see them roaming around and eating seemingly human flesh. There is again a mystery with the Lycan's as we see a villager transform into one after seemingly being bitten. Personally, I think Resident Evil 8 took a gamble with all of these iconic villains, from werewolves to vampires. I enjoy the versions of zombies from the first few games, however the Lycan's can be pretty scary to deal with especially in your first playthrough.

Moroaica:

In my opinion the Moroaica are the scariest villains in the game. In general they are freaky and always manage to take me by surprise. They occasionally pop out of the ground or turn around corners as you walk through. In the dungeon of the Dimitrescu castle you can hear their heavy breathing as you walk through the halls and they in general make the area really tense. These go back to Resident Evils roots of zombie like beasts that stumble and groan as they chase after you. There is a winged enemy similar to these that also appear around the Dimitrescu castle, they aren't as scary however they are quite difficult to deal with. There is also a giant version of these that sucks to deal with unless you have countless landmines.

Soldats:

The Soldats are definitely the most difficult regular enemies in the game. They not only are bullet sponges but they also manage to cover up their only weak spot. They have weapons that can practically be one-shot kills. They are examples of Heisenberg's intelligence as he made his own intelligent army that aren't basically mindless like the Moroaica and Lycans. They also have giant armoured versions that have jetpacks and double saws. Another version of the Soldat is a boss called Sturm, who has a giant propeller and the only thing remotely human about him is his legs. All versions of them make for genuinely difficult fights and a hard time when you are low on ammo traversing through the factory.

Area analysis:

The Village:

The village is generally a strange area. The entire place seems abandoned and empty, without a trace of life. Parts of the village are destroyed and many doors are left open throughout. It shows there was a small struggle as the villagers fought for their lives. Many homes are completely destroyed and have scratch marks across the walls showing the rampage of the Lycans. There is also a level of uncertainty with a small church all dedicated to Mother Miranda even though she is actively murdering people in the village. The village appears self sufficient, with livestock and crop fields. It all bears a striking resemblance to Resident Evil 4 as both villages are seemingly living in the past.

The castle:

The castle is again like the Village. There is an eerie emptiness to such a large area. However, we are made incredibly aware that the Dimitrescu sisters and Lady Dimitrescu are stalking you through the castle. The castle contains multiple old puzzles that are similar to the old Resident Evil games. There is a piano puzzle and multiple puzzles that require you to examine items. Almost everything is a riddle that requires you to use your head, however they aren't that hard to solve after a while of doing these puzzles. The castle requires you to walk through the same areas multiple times and each time the difficulty gets amped up with multiple Moroaica in each area.

The Beneviento house:

By far the scariest area in the game is the Beneviento house. It has the same feeling as the Baker house, with peeling wallpaper and in general an eerie feeling. This is also without mentioning the scariest part of the entire game. The basement. At first it is a simple puzzle area revolving around a doll based on Mia, and revealing to Ethan that his marriage has more problems than expected. Then after Ethan goes down a dark well we hear a loud crash and a baby screaming. Going back upstairs we find the most disgusting pile of flesh that resembles a foetus. It babbles at Ethan and cries when he runs away. The grossness of this enemy as well as the fact all our artillery has been taken from us makes this encounter one of the scariest in the entire Resident Evil series. After this area, we play hide and seek with Angie in a doll ridden area of the house. Dolls are already pretty freaky but them glitching around and occasionally attacking with giant knives makes for a very creepy encounter.

The windmill/lake:

There isn't much to say about this area apart from it being disgusting. It is constantly covered in gunk from Moreau, and multiple boxes Ethan opens are covered in maggots and grubs. It is a bit underwhelming after the horrors of the Beneviento house, but it is still gross in general.

The Factory:

The factory brings us to a dingy area full of incredibly difficult enemies around each corner. At this stage in the game Ethan is low on ammo and the difficulty of the game has been amped. It is very interesting especially with the propeller monster constantly being a threat. There is quite a few small puzzles in this section and it becomes an interesting part to playthrough.

My conclusion:

Personally this game does not live up to Resident Evil 7. It is quite campy and fun to playthrough however does better as a survival game than a horror survival game. The characters are all interesting and for my personal tastes there is a lot of fanservice if you know what I'm saying. The lore is also incredibly interesting with the fact that Mother Miranda is one of the main reasons Umbrella Corporation was founded. It makes for a fun yet tragic game throughout. The ending is sad but is a fair way to end Ethan's story and connect back to Chris for the next game. Overall in my opinion this game is a 7/10.

Karl Heisenberg isn't a big fan of keeping clean of course why would he care? He's alone in a factory dealing with dead bodies and tetanus fodder all year around so who would he need to be clean for? But of course there are limits if Heisenberg knows he's starting to smell more than usual which is mostly just lycan musk and cigars (sometimes soldat guts) he'll jump into the shower for five minutes with a little freshen up with as little shampoo or soap he can get away with. That's because if Karl is fully clean he smells of... cinnamon, a tangy sweet smell and Heisenberg despises it wearing thick layers of clothing and hardly washing other than a five minute freshen up of course if any of the other lords found out that Lord Karl Heisenberg smelt like a sugary treat god forbid alcina she wouldn't be merciful.

So I had part of a dream before my mom woke me up and now I wanna write it into a fanfiction.

Slightly... okay very nsfw warning

An AU where Ethan is the local artist who just moved to a small town who's secretly a monster-fucker and often secretly draws commissions online of or masterbates to monster-themed porn. Karl is the local priest who is openly gay and is secretly a werewolf (a-la Silver Bullet). Lady D's daughters know Karl's secret (of course, they are his nieces after all) and stumble upon Ethan's after walking in to Ethan's house unannounced only to see him drawing gay werewolf on-human porn and palming himself through his pants. They were going to invite him to a family dinner to welcome him into town but now they're just looking between each other, Ethan (who is now more red-faced and definitely mortified) and the very horny drawing which was most definitely of a man with his likeness getting roughly and thoroughly fucked by a giant werewolf. The only thing said to him (by Dani) after a bit was, " Oh, Father Heisenberg has never tasted such soft man-flesh before! I'm sure he'd love to try yours!" To which Ethan just stared before being pulled to his feet and dragged (secretly eager) to go see Father Karl Heisenberg, his soon to be werewolf boyfriend.

I could talk about this resident evil 8 AU for days! I've actually been keeping myself from posting more asks That way I can get your response/feedback before I start adding more.

Miranda definitely projects onto Mirabel in fact when she first got there Miranda didn't give her to Alcina and instead had her living with her and she refused to call her by her name and was calling her Eva instead. she did that for like a week before she gave her to Alcina but when she gets extremely upset with her she will call her Eva and tell her that she's her daughter.

Speaking of Alcina her and her daughters relationship with Mirabel is.... Complicated to say the least. Mirabel loves Alcina and her daughters because Alcina took her in and truly did act like a mother figure that would never harm her and they all loved her like their own but Mirabel hates unnecessary cruelty/violence which is something the Dimitrescu family loves to do. they try to tone it down by a large amount because they saw how much it truly bothered her but they all are very temperamental/sadistic which I think is a by-product of their version of the mutations (plus the fact that they need to eat people to survive) so they aren't very successful which put a bit of stain on their relationship with Mirabel. Which they are all very aware of and try everything in their power to bridge the gap with her to varying degrees of success.

When Miranda forces Maribel to experiment on her family Maribel does what she could to defy her in the moment which was to beg and plead with her not to do it and to try and get her to change her mind. But after she threatened to experiment on them herself Maribel went ahead and did it (Miranda doesn't use actual anesthesia she instead uses a paralyzer so when she experiments on people they can't move but they are awake and aware of everything that's happening That includes all of the Lords)

When there are experiments of hers that has the result being something like the lycans she immediately puts them down herself that way the person inside isn't suffering and there aren't a bunch of monsters running around that she created and causing mass casualties/complete chaos. Which is something that karl argues with her a lot about saying that she's wasting potential soldiers for the army against Miranda.

Speaking of Karl they have a very love-hate relationship. They both sometimes get together and get along over their mutual hatred of Miranda and try to make plans to stop her but because they both go about it in two very different ways they often are arguing with each other on how to stop Miranda (it also doesn't help that Mirabel spend a good portion of her time with Alcina who hates him) both are convinced that their way is the right way and can't believe the other one can't see what they're doing wrong. The way that Mirabel is trying to stop her is by trying to create a brand new body for her daughter to go in that way there is no need for a human vessel and instead she has her own freshly made body to take over and we all know karl's way of trying to stop Miranda.

Mirabel does not physically touch The orphans/her family without wearing a pair of leather gloves because she "doesn't want a monster like myself touching people so pure and innocent."

Speaking of the family Julieta does NOT want to let Mirabel out of her sight. None of them do but Julieta is probably the worst out of all of them about that and had the most visceral reaction when Miranda slaps mirabel across the face (which she does when they are in the middle of dinner she wanted to make sure that the entire family was in one area and saw her "light punishment".)

SO COULD I. But I could also talk about Resident Evil all day in general. I blame my friend because she got me into it 😭😭

Honestly, it’s so sad that Miranda projects onto her. I mean this whole thing started because she simply couldn’t cope with her daughter’s death and really thought she could bring her back. And now she’s taking poor Mirabel and treating her like she Eva and not…Mirabel. Like what is this, Law and Order?? SVU??? Imagine how terrified Mirabel is. She was kidnapped, and is now being called some random name. And then even after that, Miranda will snap at her and call her Eva, which is WILD. And then she made her experiment on her family. And Mirabel only did it because she didn’t want her family to suffer to much in the aftermath and. Let’s be real here, Mirabel’s mortality rates are way lower than Miranda’s when it comes to experimental stuff 🗿

Honestly, I can see and honestly agree that Mirabel does care for Lday D and her daughters, but like. Morally, she CANNOT agree with the stuff they do. Like when she found out, she did understand that they needed it to survive, but she felt like they could have done it by more. You know. Conventional means. Or at least very least more humane 💀 she wants to be close, but honestly that whole sadistic killing thing and making wine out of their blood is just not how she rolls ☹️ and with Karl. They remind me of siblings, I mean they both can agree a some (very few) things, but just refuse to hear the other out, but honestly it’s kinda understandable.

Then he remembered you upstairs. Ethan sighs and puts his book down. He stands up and knocks on your room door. “Sweetheart,” he calls out “are you okay?” He knew that you were still mourning the loss of your village and loved ones. When you don’t answer, he slowly opens the door and sees you nuzzled into the blankets. Sighing in relief, he lightly closes the room door to let you rest.

He crept back downstairs and began to work on dinner. Ethan couldn’t help but wonder why exactly you stumbled across his home those days ago. Of course he was relieved that you weren’t super interested in Castle Dimitrescu and it’s looming energy over the village or the salty air of the reservoir.

He knew a child such as yourself wouldn’t survive the village as it was now. He kept telling himself that keeping you here was a safe idea but deep down he knew that you would want to leave and that he can’t protect you forever. He sighed and began to wash the potatoes and carrots. He turns on the stove and puts the vegetables in a broth. Just then, the phone rings.

Ethan mutters something to himself and picks up the phone, knowing exactly who it is. “Hello, Heisenberg.” He mutters. Heiseberg doesn’t even say ‘hello’ before speaking into the phone. “Ethan Winters! I know what exactly you're hiding.” Ethan’s eyes widen in shock. “Heisenberg, you can’t tell anyone–” He’s quickly cut off. “I’m kidding, Winters! It’s not like you’re housing another child that you’ll eventually kill again…” The room gets quiet. Ethan sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose. “You know I didn’t kill them.” Heisenberg laughs at Ethan’s insistence.

“Oh right. Like the Lycans always go for your little toys!” Ethan was irritated and honestly tempted to just hang up.

He knew Heisenberg enjoyed getting under his skin, but right now he needed to keep the conversation civil. He couldn’t afford having his new child upstairs to hear him go off. He took a deep breath and responded calmly, "Look, enough with the games. Just tell me what you want.” Heisenberg's laughter trailed off, replaced by a cold and calculating tone. "What I want, Ethan, is a partnership.”

Ethan’s eyes widen. “A partnership? What do you mean by—“ He had a realization. Heisenberg interrupts, "I need your help with something big, Ethan. You know how I feel about Miranda. She can’t hear this call.” Ethan leans against the wall, unamused but interested In Heisenberg’s words. "Alright," Ethan says, "I'm listening, but if this is some kind of setup...” Ethan sighs and looks off.

Heisenberg smirks and leans back into his chair. “We kill the bitch where she stands. Then, after that, we can live a free life without her control.” Ethan thinks for a while. He didn’t know how to feel about this deal. “Listen to me, papa. I can already tell you’re super protective of this child. If you don’t take my deal, I’ll have to make a report on what you have stored into your—“ Ethan cuts him off. “Fine. Just don’t hurt them.” He mutters.

He hands up the phone and sighs, leaning against the doorframe of his kitchen. As he’s in the middle of thinking, you walk in. You look up at Ethan with your pleading eyes, clearly hungry. He brushed off his feelings and chuckled. “Hm? What is it, honey? You hungry?” He kneels down to your level and ruffled your hair. “Don’t worry, I’m cooking dinner right now.” You nod and rub to the living room to explore the house more. In the kitchen, you can smell Ethan cooking some roast beef.

The smell of roasted beef and potatoes pervaded the air, filling your nostrils with the savory aroma of a hearty feast. The sweet smell of potatoes being roasted mingled with the intense scent of beef, the two creating a delicious aroma that was sure to make your mouth water. The fragrance was mouth-watering and inviting, and the thought of digging into the delicious dinner made your stomach growl with anticipation. A warm, comforting feeling washes over you as you eagerly await the meal.

Your comfort and trust in Ethan ease your worries about the recent events. He hums a small tune that invites you in the kitchen. You happily skip into the kitchen and Ethan greets you with a warm smile as he continues to prepare the meal. “Sweetheart, come here.” He grabs a small spoon and scoops up some of the broth. “Say aaah.” He puts the spoonful of soup in your mouth. “How does it taste? Too salty? Not salty enough?” You think but shake your head. The savory broth fills your senses, bringing a sense of warmth and comfort. Ethan's eyes sparkle with anticipation as he waits for your reaction, and you can't help but smile back at him, grateful for his attentive nature.

Ethan sighs and ruffled your hair. “Good. Now go play someplace. I don’t want you near the stove, okay?” In reality, he didn’t want to be stressed about Heisenberg while you were in the room. You, being a kid, run off as you’re told. You decide to investigate the house a bit. You had never really been to Ethan’s room or the living room.

Well, the living room was first you supposed. Rushing over, you feel the warmth of the fireplace and see Ethan’s favorite reading chair. There was a small table next to it with some coffee and stale cookies. Whoever was eating them hadn’t been home for a while. That, or Ethan had better things to be doing. More proof of this was the coffee being frozen cold. Being curious, you take a sip of coffee. It was bitter and black without a touch of sugar.

You swallow it, feeling worse than ever but sucking it up for your own sake. As you set down the cup, a creaking noise startles you. The noise came from the window and being the curious child you are, you look through. There’s silence. A long silence.

A Lycan beats on the window and growls. It barks and screams in an attempt to get you. You fall over after being startled so hard. You quickly get on your feet and scramble back over to Ethan. He tilts his head and looks over at the window to see the creature biting the glass. Ethan sighs and walks over to the window, telling off the Lycan and making it go away. “There’s no one here, shoo. You’re just seeing things.” The Lycan groans and whimpers in confusion. It tries to look past him but Ethan closes the window and blinds.

Your heart pounds as you watch Ethan close the window and the blinds, blocking out the unnerving sight of the Lycan. Ethan bends down to your level and cups your cheek to see if you’re hurt or bruised. “Did it touch you? I heard a thud and didn’t know if it got inside.” You shake your head reassuringly, giving Ethan a small sigh in relief. “That’s my kid.” He kisses your forehead, causing you to giggle a small bit. “Luckily, lunch should be ready soon.”

After an hour, you start to come to terms with Ethan being your new dad. You’ve just learned that you’ll have to stay behind and grow up with him. It’ll be a long time before you’re an adult and maybe Miranda will stop trying to find you. All you know was that Ethan would protect and love you as his own child no matter what.

Sure! I'm surprised Heisenberg was not requested earlier. I did not focus on Darling's gender, don't worry. I was not really sure where to go with this, so the ending's bad/feels rushed and Heisenberg may be OOC due to me not looking into his personality fully. This fic could've gone better. Those words from Chris's mouth sent chills down your spine. An emergency mission can only mean one thing... something went wrong with Ethan.

According to your briefing, Ethan had succumbed to one of the lords. Chris had tasked you with not only retrieving Ethan's corpse, but finding Rose. Both of them had some sort of power from what you've heard.

"I'll be backed up by you, right?"

"Of course. We can't let Miranda keep either of them. If you need to... take out the lord that killed Ethan. They should be the fourth one."

"He killed the rest?"

"Yes. All except for one.... Heisenberg."

Suiting yourself up and equipping yourself with a weapon or two, you prepare yourself. Heisenberg was someone who can't be taken lightly. Not with his power....

"Send me there, Chris."

"You ready?"

You breathe in softly before nodding.

Heisenberg thought Ethan would be the last outsider he'd have to deal with. After all, he was only here to find that daughter of his. It was really too bad he had to die... he could've been a great help against Miranda.

Then there was word of yet another outsider. He both dreaded and looked forward to this new discovery. They had caused an uproar with the lycans, it was best to keep an eye out.

This was the first look he got of you. Looking all determined to enter his factory. It was clear what you were after.

You were finishing what Ethan started.

Silently and patiently, Heisenberg keeps track of your progress. You looked appealing and that determination was stunning. It could be him just realizing how alone he was now...

But he felt a strange yearning towards this outsider.

Curiosity and intrigue sprout from his attention towards you. The longer he watched you, the stronger such a yearning grew. He cursed how impulsive this feeling made him....

The closer you got to the factory, Heisenberg went against his better thinking and made a decision. Since you'd enter his domain within the hour, why not test you?

Heisenberg's factory... a place that would be a mad mechanic's wet dream. Upon entering the building you're greeted with a labyrinth of visuals and noises. All looking disturbing in design....

The loud clanking of machines and pistons ring in your ears, echoing in a disorienting rhythm. Groans of creatures born as a chimera of metal and flesh roam around every corner with the instincts of a wild but disoriented animal. The sights and sounds shake you to your core.

You have a job to do, unfortunately.

It's not like you came here expecting sunshine and rainbows. This was Ethan's last reported location. Right before he was deemed missing, or deceased.

Seeing as the old factory looks so lovely, it wasn't hard to assume Ethan had fallen victim to one of these poor unfortunate beasts. It was that or the fourth lord you still haven't seen.

You could be stalked in this maze of machines and never know.

Worry pooled like sludge in your gut, slowly seeping into you as a warning. You wondered how Ethan had succumbed to his demise here. If you weren't careful, you could easily be next.

"Really hope Chris meant it when he said he'd have my back-"

The deeper you went into the barrage of sounds and disturbing scenery, the more your brave facade wavered. It was perfectly normal to dread what you'd find. Even in an abnormal setting, you still knew your emotions were the most normal thing you'd find here.

It was hard to find a singular corpse here. At least... one that's Ethan's and not one of the robotic chimeras no doubt created by Heisenberg himself. On a similar note, you wondered just what was the point of these beasts?

The factory absorbed your senses so much you never heard the whirr of magnetic fields. The clank of pistons easily covered the tap of footsteps. What you did register, was you being disarmed of your weapons.

"What-"

"Well aren't I lucky? I get to deal with another one of outsiders."

The bending and clashing of metal against metal walls violates your ears, causing you to flinch. You were constrained easily to the wall, shackled in front of Heisenberg, the fourth lord. His expression read of both annoyance... yet interest.

"I'm surprised the lycans didn't get to you, or even the soldats. I would say you're special, but I doubt you had any power like Ethan."

Heisenberg then looks you up and down before grinning.

"Special in a different way, however..."

"Hey-"

"Wait, let me guess. After Rose too, huh?"

Heisenberg sighs, backing up and tossing your guns over a rail. You can barely move due to the metal restraints. Chris really needed to send a team of people-

"'Course you are, who isn't at this point?"

"Where's Ethan?"

"You're late for that one, he's dead. Unfortunately...."

"Where's his corpse?"

"Is that what you wanted? Disposed of."

"Wh-"

"Will you stop barking questions!? Just who is interrogating who here?"

You keep quiet, not like you could do much else. Heisenberg heaves a sigh, distressed his plans are once again disrupted.

"Couldn't resist sticking your nose where it doesn't belong, huh? Like some lost animal looking for shelter. I don't pity you."

Heisenberg leans closer, tilting your chin up.

"You're worse off than Ethan. Consider what I do next... mercy."

Metal clangs into your head suddenly, dragging you and your senses into the depths of your subconscious.

You're awoken to the smell of cigar smoke and a pounding head. Coughing softly, you hear a shift in the room.

"Waking up, are you?"

You turn your head groggily to be met with Heisenberg, leaning on a wall while smoking. Chains restrain you to a wall with a mattress placed under you. You immediately prepare to defend yourself.

"Stay there-"

"You really are like a scared animal... now what's your name?"

"Like I'm telling you."

"Feisty, huh? Need I remind you of our previous talk? Tell me your name, and I'll answer a question of yours. I know you love those."

You grunt at his cocky behavior, deciding to take your chances.

"It's (Y/N), if you must know, Heisenberg."

"Great to know you already know me. Now, your question?"

"What is your plan with me?"

"Right to the point, I like that...."

Heisenberg laughs before pacing in front of you.

"Well. You know the other three are dead, right? Never liked them. Although I do admit it is... quieter. You're going to be company. Who knows, maybe you'll attract someone that can kill the 'queen bee' here."

"I'm a hostage...."

Heisenberg takes a drag of his cigar, looking at you through his glasses.

"No need to be so pessimistic, (Y/N). I'm sure you'll have some use to me."

Heisenberg stands in front of you, grinning.

"I think you and I will do great things. Not like you have much of a choice now. Ethan's dead and a lost corpse, Rose is unreachable alone, let's be honest... you were disposed of."

You feel your heart crack, a hopeless feeling nibbling at you like a swarm of worrisome bugs.

"No-"

"You'd die here at some point if I was not the one left alive. You got captured way too easily. Miranda would tear you to shreds and feed you to the lycans. I, on the other hand, have supplied you with shelter."

"Why-"

"I've been watching you from the start. You think I don't know what goes on in my own factory or this village? Hah, cute.... You won't live out here on your own, (Y/N)."

Again, he holds your face with gloved hands. It's strangely affectionate, the way he holds you makes you think he has ulterior motives.

"Wouldn't you rather take the easier option, anyway? You either die, or are taken care of here, safe in isolation and here to aid me. Isn't that better?"

He then chuckles at your fear, leaning away.

"Oh please, I'm the one in charge here anyway. You answer to me. You'll go along with it when pushed in the right direction, won't you?"

You fear him... you fear everything about him. You have no guns, he's much too strong anyway. You're hopeless... hopeless and alone.

Isolated with no one to help you but him for whatever reason he had.

"You'll join me in the end. Taking you here was a great decision, my mind is certainly less... distracted now."

Okok so like, I have a big brain idea

So like, reader has an argument with Ethan and Karl (poly relationship pog) and storms out of the factory. Cue a time skip of about 5 hours, reader hasn’t come back, and they start to freak out. They search everywhere, and they’re no where to be found.

Turns out they’re talking to Donna and Angie. Why? Cause they need someone to vent to. And cause it also happened to be the day that they were supposed to go over for a tea party with Angie.

“Despite what you seem to think, Karl, you aren’t the boss of me,” you snapped.

“I’m not trying to boss you around but you have to understand that it is dangerous out there, you’re gonna get killed if you keep running off without telling me.”

“Who’s gonna hurt me? The lycans? They know better. The other lords? I get along with them better than you do. And even if something happens, I can handle myself!”

“God, you’re so fucking headstrong, I’m trying to keep you safe.”

“And lock me up in your factory? As if. Fuck off, Karl.”

Tensions had slowly been rising in the factory over the last week, after your boyfriend had gotten annoyed over you coming home late. It felt like he was treating you like porcelain. You weren’t made of glass, you were thriving out here just as much as he and Ethan were. It was so frustrating to be treated like a child with a curfew.

Karl was regularly pushing the limits of his powers and energy, working late into the night. And Ethan had managed to lose multiple limbs in the space of you knowing him, even if he could reattach them with ease. So why were you the one getting lectured?

The tension had broken when you told Karl you were leaving for the day. Neither of you had meant for it to become an argument, but you were both too stubborn for your own good. Karl was pressing at his temples and you could tell he was keeping himself from starting to yell. Then Ethan walked in.

“Hey, you two good? What’s going on?”

“Tell them that they can’t keep running off whenever they like, they’re gonna get killed.”

“Tell him that he can’t order me around!” You protested immediately.

Ethan never enjoyed being in the middle of an argument. He could give as good as anything when he was arguing himself, but you could see him already trying to figure out how to least upset the both of you.

“Well, babe, it uh, is pretty dangerous out there-“

You were sick of this. You had plans today, you were going to be late and you had no patience left for the two of them acting like you couldn’t hold your own. You turned on your heel and stormed out of the room.

“Babe!”

“Shit, fine, go cool off.”

You ignored their voices behind you, navigating easily through the factory. It wasn’t fighting against you at least. You’d seen Karl bend the building to his will, rearranging it as he pleased. If he put his mind to it, he could keep you from leaving.

You knew him well enough to trust he wouldn’t though. Even with the frustration still burning in your veins as you stepped out into the snow.

A break from the factory had been exactly what you’d needed.

Your plans for today had been to visit Donna’s manor. Coming out here for tea and gossip was always a good way to let go of stress. Especially since Donna was such a good listener. You hadn't wanted to spend the whole visit complaining at her so it took a few hours for her to pull the story out of you.

“I just feel like they’re being overbearing, you know? I don’t need their protection.”

Donna nodded thoughtfully as you spoke, a new doll in her lap and Angie sitting on the table.

“Kill them!” Speak of the devil, Angie always had her own, very violent, advice.

"I don't think that's the answer here, no," You said, smiling. Even if her advice was unhelpful, it broke the tension that had been set into your muscles since the argument. "They're being...a lot, right now, but I love them and I know they mean well I guess."

Predictably, Angie stuck out her tongue at the rejection of her idea.

"Angie, dear, go play," Donna said softly, setting her down on the ground. The doll ran off immediately, already distracted by something she'd spotted on the floor.

When Donna looked back up at you, despite the heavy veil she wore, you could perfectly imagine the gentle smile she had. Her soft nature had always been a blessing in this world of chaos and you wouldn't trade this friendship for the world.

"It is good that there is no malice on either side and that you know that. But why let it become so angry?" Donna asked.

"Because Karl won't listen to me! And Ethan keeps taking his side even though he's gotten into more trouble than I ever have! And I'm not trying to keep him confined to the factory!"

"Does any part of you want to?"

"What?" You stopped, confused.

"Your Ethan has a knack for finding danger, no? Wouldn't it be nice to know he was safe?"

"Well, yeah, it would," you trailed off, letting yourself reflect on the anxieties that always seemed to surround you when your partners were gone, even though you knew they could protect themselves.

"So, even though you disagree with them, you understand where they are coming from."

"Yeah, but I'm not being unreasonable to not want to be treated like a child by my partners."

"You are not being unreasonable, you do require respect and boundaries with them. But if you want my advice, talk to them about how it feels for you all. You need to feel respected, they need to feel more secure about your safety and perhaps you need that as well. Perhaps you could find a solution that suits you all?"

"I, I'll talk to them. Thank you, Donna"

She nodded at you, and you could tell that the speaking had drained her. Even with your regular visits, she preferred to stay quiet most of the time. Talking could take a lot out of her. You appreciated that she had offered her advice despite that.

You were offered a few minutes of silence before there was a sudden pounding at the door, shocking you both. Angie immediately jumped over into Donna's arm and you gestured for them both to stay put as you went for the door.

You were surprised to come face to face with your boyfriends when you opened the door. Before you could even speak, you were pulled into their arms and could feel their racing heartbeats.

"You were just at Donna's, okay, okay," Karl breathed out, still holding onto you when Ethan stepped back.

"We are so sorry. For the argument, for uh, nearly breaking down Donna's door, all of it." Ethan said, offering you an apologetic smile. "But then you disappeared to get some air and you didn't take your phone and it's been hours. We kind of panicked."

"I am sorry for being an ass, but I would appreciate it if you kept your phone on you." Karl's voice was muffled as he pressed his face into your shoulder.

"I'm sorry, time got away from me. I didn't mean to make you worry." You reached over to squeeze Ethan's hand as you rubbed circles onto Karl's back. "If you let me go, I'll say goodbye to Donna and we can head home?"

It took a moment for you to be released, but they both stepped back, Ethan asking you to apologize to Donna for their brusque entrance.

Donna was sitting calmly on the couch, clearly having relaxed once she recognized the voices. She waved at you as you said your goodbyes, Angie sitting on her lap.

"I still think you should try my idea," the doll said, "But either way, you're coming back for tea again soon, okay?"

"Of course, Angie, I wouldn't miss it for the world."

I raced back to the castle the village was in battle with the Lycans. Blood was everywhere. I looked up and saw Karl fighting the hunter. I cry out and run up there. He was stabbed and dropped the hunter from the factory walls. Falling to the floor. I run up to him and put precious on his wound his fur already soaked in blood.

"It will be okay," I say through tears. "It will be okay now."

I do not know if I was telling myself that or him. I couldn't tell, I had become rather dependent on him, and he had become less of an asshole, so for him to die right now. He suddenly snapped at me as I pull my hand back, I didn't take it personally, you kind of have to ignore it.

I tried to help him, putting as much care as I could before he pushed away, which meant I couldn't push it any further, not without having to deal with his little power play. At least I knew he was going to be fine. He should be at least.

I leaned down and kissed her long hair face. "I love you." I whisper and suddenly his body started to glow and his hair just started to fall off. I stared and soon a man without all the hair on his was revealed. He sat up and groan.

Ok so I know not everyone on my blog is a Resident Evil fan…

But I remembered this is my house so I can do what I want.

So I’m gonna be honest. RE8 isn’t the worst in the series (you’d have to work to be worse than Resident Evil Gaiden, the Gun Survivor mini series [no offense to the fans of it], the disappointing RE3 remake, or the shitshow that was RE6). But I’m annoyed at the lack of enemy variety or creativity.

There are minions for most of the 4 lords and the ones given to Dimitrescu and Heisenberg (I’m not counting Beneviento, you couldn’t really fight the dolls or the baby), make sense given that the four lords are based around classic horror stories/subcategories of horror stories/literature.

Starting with Alicna Dimitrescu, she is based on Dracula and her daughters are based off of the three wives Dracula had in the book. She drinks blood and uses her claws plus she has a bat form. Those all work. Her minions are called Moroaicǎ and look like this:

This works as a vampire’s servant.

Now Karl Heisenberg has different mechanical abominations that he presumably created, this makes sense as his character was inspired by Viktor Frankenstein. These creatures match his inspiration perfectly.

And we have reached my biggest complaints. First of all Salvatore Moreau was inspired by Lovecraftian body horror, his design is suitably fishy and unnatural, reminding me a great deal of the Deep One hybrids from the Shadow Over Innsmouth. However, he does not have minions matching his theme. Resident Evil has had an entire game with Fish-zombie creatures created by the T-Abyss virus (Resident Evil Revelations) and they would have been fine to reuse here. But we did not. Instead he had the enemy type I found the most disappointing.

Dear god I hate how they were so boring to look at and their name makes no goddamn sense. This could’ve been a better idea of monsters that are still continuing to transform as time goes on. A friend said a werewolf would be silly. Until I pointed him towards the werewolf infection from Ginger Snaps, a slow and permanent transformation that is not dependent upon the moon. Resident Evil 8 could have given us something like that, but no, we get kinda hairy dudes with long nails and jacked up teeth.
