prompt three; holiday traditions <3 ft. remus!! bartylus, and evan. ( all drunk )
read on ao3: here
"C'mon Reg," Evan pleaded, "It's a tradition!"
Regulus paused to take in Evan, blonde hair messy, cheeks flushed, and clothes slightly rumpled. "Tradition requires me to get drunk and messy?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
Evan frowned.
"Yes! Well, no. But yes!" He answered, drunken brain not quite thinking straight. Regulus sighed, grabbing Evan's wand when he attempted to point it at Regulus, before grabbing Evan a glass of water. He pushed it into Evan's hands, glaring at him sternly until Evan gulped it down.
Regulus spoke, "You, need to sober up and stop talking about traditions. I need to-" He glanced around the room, sighing again when he realized that Barty had disappeared, "Find my boyfriend, apparently."
Really, Regulus felt like their keepers sometimes.
Suddenly, the door burst open, and a figure stumbled in, dragging someone else behind him. "Found'im!" Evan cheered, pointing at the first figure, who was indeed, Barty. Regulus quickly scanned Barty from head to toe, reassuring himself that Barty wasn't hurt, only drunk, before turning his attention to the second person.
"How did you get dragged into this?" Regulus asked a tired-looking Remus Lupin. Remus only held up a hand, slumping down onto the nearest bed and falling back.
He waited a few more seconds before replying, "Don't even ask. That one," He gestured at Barty, sitting up, "Popped up out of nowhere and dragged me here. Saying something about traditions and 'Regulus's friends?'" Remus shrugged, "Don't know, but he dragged me all the way across the school for it, so it better be good."
"Let me explain!" Barty suddenly shouted, stumbling over to Regulus, and draping himself over him. Regulus gently pushed him away, giving him a kiss before sitting him down on his bed.
Evan interjected, "No, I should! I started it after all!"
Barty pouted, crossing his arms like a child, and stomping his feet. "Not fair!" He retorted, before throwing himself at Evan. Two of them landed on the floor in a flurry of arms and legs.
Remus smiled in exasperation, before turning his attention to Regulus. "Well?" He asked, expecting an explanation.
"It's kinda a long story," Regulus started, "But long story short when I was in my first year, I wasn't really friends with Barty. Evan was my only friend, and so, on the third day of December, today, he dragged me out to get drunk with him. At age eleven. I'm not quite sure what he was thinking, but we both ended up drunk, and he started calling this day 'the day where Regulus and his few friends get happy.' He paused, before continuing, "Again, I'm not sure what he was thinking."
Remus chuckled, "I'm not sure he was thinking at all." He stood up, obviously having caught his breath, "Now the question begs, what am I doing here?"
Barty, who had managed to gain the upper hand in the fight, and was now straddling Evan, one hand grabbing his hair, answered, "Because you're Reggie's third friend!" Regulus glared at him, and Evan giggled before he promptly grabbed Barty's arm and twisted.
"You only have three friends?" Remus asked, a smirk rising on his lips.
Regulus sighed, "Four, technically. Pandora and Dorcas went home for the holidays. Five if we're counting you." He smiled coldly, though Remus could see the warmth and humor in his eyes, "I'm not."
"Sure."
Evan, who had managed to escape, tossed a bottle of Firewhiskey to Remus. "Drink!" He cried. Regulus found himself getting pulled down onto the floor beside Barty, who handed him a bottle as well.
"Please?" Barty pleaded, making his eyes wide and pouting slightly. Regulus sighed for the third time that night, unable to resist his boyfriend's puppy eyes. He popped the lid open, and he and Remus took a swig at the same time, both downing a quarter of the bottle in one go.
Remus raised an eyebrow in challenge, and Regulus smirked. Now it was Barty and Evan's turn to look worried when Regulus and Remus both tipped their bottles down again, silently competing against each other to see who could finish it faster.
Of course, Remus, more experienced and older, was the one who slammed the bottle down first, grinning in satisfaction. Regulus finished his a few seconds later, looking dissatisfied. He reached for another bottle, tossing Remus another one. "Rematch."
"You're on."
Soon, the four of them lay, squished together, on one bed. Remus on the right, Regulus beside him, with Barty on his other side, and Evan beside Barty. "I love you guys." Regulus slurred, "Even if all of you annoy the hell out of me."
"But you love me the most, right?" Barty asked, cheeks red and hair messy. Regulus frowned as if in deep thought.
He eventually answered, "Maybe."
Evan cried out, "Not fair!" He grasped at Regulus's hair, reaching over Barty. "Take it back." Remus smirked, turning around slightly so he was free to tickle Regulus, who was trapped between him and Barty.
"Alright, alright," Regulus squirmed, gasping for air, "I take it back."
Barty pouted now, "Hey! No takebacks." He smirked, "He already said he loves me the most." He sat up, smug. Remus threw a pillow at him, sending him back down, landing on top of Regulus, who grunted.
"You're heavy," Regulus complained, "Get off."
"No."
Regulus sighed, twisting Barty around so that they were face to face, before kissing him. Lips pressed together, Regulus slurred, "I see I found a way to shut you up." He could feel Barty smiling, could feel the alcohol coursing through his veins. And for a moment, he found himself locked away from reality with Barty for company. He found he didn't mind.
That was, until Remus whacked him on the head with a pillow, and Evan dragged Barty away. "No PDA! We're still here." Remus, somehow the least drunk, reprimanded.
"I hate you both." Regulus grumbled.
Evan sighed, "No you don't."
Regulus thought for a moment and then relented, "No, I don't.

sirius and regulus run away AU but make it moonwater/moonseeker
they do go to the potters and sirius immediately fits in, they're a family of eccentric extroverts and that's exactly the kind of people sirius adores - regulus doesn't, though. he still has hang ups about james, euphemia is Amazing but he's truly not comfortable with her expansive nature and fleamont is just barely better.
anyway remus stays for a bit during summer and the plan is to bring him home (the lupins dont have a floo connection) and stay for dinner there. except. hope is immediately enamoured with the tiny, sarcastic teenager standing moodily behind his older brother - reg is quiet and looking at the bookcases more than at them but still managing to snark and jokingly insult the others in a way that makes her genuinely laugh. and remus is so clearly fond of him, the two of them going back and forth easily.
and regulus likes her too - hope is warm but quiet, motherly but in a subtle way. and lyall is gruff and clearly doesn't know what to do with all these teenagers but he still looks at his family with love even if he doesn't know how to show it. they're a little broken, a little less clean and polished than the potters are. and regulus likes it that way, prefers their quaint little home (with the yellow paint peeling off of the old wooden front door) to the splendour of potter manor.
he visits often, during that summer. until he's pretty much only going back for sirius (living without his brother, even after everything, would be too unnatural) because he's got his own bed at the lupins', his own bookcase and space in remus' closet.
(sirius knows his younger brother. he pushes reg to accept the offer of staying over more often, even if it feels weird to have breakfast without him outside of hogwarts. he stays at the lupins' himself, as much as he can, just to give reg more opportunities. sirius has a mother in euphemia, regulus wont let himself admit the same about hope.
sirius has only ever wanted happiness, for his little brother. he wont let regulus give up on it for his sake. )
this is all to say: reg at home with the lupins, building a close friendship with remus and falling in love with him through late night talks and mornings spent together and long nights crying softly under the light of the full moon - hope has two sons now, both happier than they've ever been. lyall watching his wife and son welcome another boy into the family is exactly the kind of shock he needs to start proving that he can be part of it too. remus and regulus being loved and loving in return. life has never been so good.

Not mutual pining - real friendship first
My partner has gotten me into Hazbin Hotel and, of course, Angel Dust has my heart.
The Husk/Angel ship has, of course, become the subject of dicussion in this house and watching it I firmly, firmly believe that Angel and Husk need to be friends. Genuinely just friends not "silently pining but not acting".
Angel needs someone who isn't interested in him for his body, where his sexuality is in no way linked to why Husk is in his life.
And, after a few years of that, yeah I can see them getting together romantically/sexually. But I think Angel needs the foundation of truly realizing
And although there's loads of differences - honestly "Loser Baby" has, for me, vibes of "Remus finds Regulus when Regulus is preparing to go to the Inferi Cave".
I love LOVE LOVE love love writing Remus/Regulus where they've been close friends, queerplatonic for a few years before getting together. But I never really evaluated why - but Angel/Husk has made me realize that I think Regulus needs the same.
He needs someone who doesn't want him for what he can do for them or for who his family is or his ties to sirius or anything else. Someone who doesn't try to fix him and accepts he's fucked up. Someone who just appreciates who he is as a person, has things in common with him, and loves him.
You're a loser, baby
A loser, but just maybe if
Eat shit together, things will end up differently
