About having a family together. About doing mundane things together that with you would have made their heart ache with joy. It could be a year later and they would show up on your doorstep with some item they discovered that reminded them of you. eyes gleaming and lighting up when they saw your face as the door opened. “Still looking lovely as always” This is an unconventional kind of love but I really like it a lot.

Scar was scapegoating this mf the entire time but Grian thought he was in charge, that he was saving this man over and over but it’s situations Scar put himself in on purpose. They hate that they have to be in each others company CONSTANTLY but they hate the silence more.

There’s so many interpretations where Grian’s in denial abt needing Scar but it’s true in reverse. Scar keeps having to convince himself that Grian’s expendable when he knows That’s Not True.

They wouldn’t hold hands or have a picnic (or other romantic gestures) but they find excuses to prove the other person needs them, they find reasons to make the other stay because they’re projecting.

“He’s expendable” “This is temporary” they both project this on the other. It’s a very toxic codependency that reinforces itself over and over because of the nature of the games, and I think it’s something they both realize in LL, but in different directions.

Scar misses it for all the wrong reasons and Grian is determined to never let it happen again.

Grian has shaky alliances all season long due to self sabotage, and Scar consistently tries to get someone else, Anyone Else into the same situation Grian was in. Not out of some power trip but to fill the void that left behind

I was just thinking again of Idolish7 and I think that the reason that the theme of legacy and carrying on the baton or becoming something better was done SO well was because it they approached it from that old adage about "paying it forward." It's like....yes, they are rivals and competing and doing this for themselves, but like Otoharu said in one of the story parts, the past isn't worthless because it gives us something to build off of and perhaps surpass (and it's good inspiration, too). And you can see that in addition to just being idols and creating music and making their own kinds of art for themselves, they're also doing this out of love for something from the past. Mitsuki with Zero, Sogo with his uncle, Tamaki for Aya, Iori for his brother, Riku because of his family and Tenn, Tenn for his family/Kujo, Momo and Yuki for the old Re:vale and Banri, Minami and Nagi for Sakura, also even Aya for the families that abandoned her and the new ones that gave her something, etc. Even people like Torao and Yamato, who kind of entered the industry purely out of "selfish" desires have an arc where they received kindness and now just want to pass it on.

To sum it up, by treating the past with respect and real appreciation, they can surpass it without trying to undermine its real impact and beauty.

you have come to ask me, a girlie who is a sucker for unhealthy shadowpeach and long time lover of the jealousy & possessive tropes, about shadowpeach’s hypothetical reactions of the two monkeys believing the other is back in the dating scene?

well, obviously, they would be completely fine. absolutely no negative reactions or breakdowns or obsessive thoughts hindering their ability to function and be mentally healthy. of course.

jk i lied: THEY WOULD BE SO HORRIBLE LMAO

however, i feel like swk would be more subtle about it. like maybe he hears something out of context said by MK or Mei or Tang or Red Son or Sandy (who might have also jumped to the same conclusion) and is like “oh……” and then is oddly quiet for maybe a month, freaking out MK

also, SWK would have his own internal battle of wanting to see Macky to confirm but also not wanting to see Macackle because the confirmation would break him. but he would make so many excuses to see Macaroon by visiting Pigsy’s noodle shop then chicken out when the time does come (the funny part of me says that Pigsy is the only one aware of SWK’s true intentions and is very annoyed about it)

the anger doesn’t really come until SWK feels fed up with Macaroni’s “mixed signals,” meaning Macky’s very bad attempts at being civil/flirting. because “if Macky thinks he can just use my feelings while being in a relationship he can think again!” (despite Macky never being in a relationship but Wukong never confirmed this so is mad for the sake of this hypothetical SO and himself while struggling with his own very messy feelings. because he likes it when Mac has his attention on him, he likes it when Mac tries to woo him the same way he had tried when they were younger and ignorant, he likes it when Mac cannot help but look at Wukong, he likes it when he makes Mac forget all about that stupid significant other because Wukong and Mac used to be something and could still be that something if Mac just gave Wukong a chance or if they had never ended their old relationship like the way they did. if only, if only, if only, if only, if only—

with Macky, ahahahaaaaaaa hoo boy.

not subtle. very unsubtle. like, yes, even Wukong can see and notice Macky’s very unsubtle and unstable self but unlike everybody else who is aware of the reason, Wukong would just be confused on why Macky is always weirdly snappy and grabby and always feel the need to mention Wukong’s love life????

anyway, Macky would not react well. 1) because it feeds into his angry theory that Wukong found their relationship to be superficial and temporary 2) he has been revived for, uh, *checks watch* not very long, so imagine going through a severe break up and dying them being resurrected and trying to enact revenge on your ex (of whom the feelings are still too raw) but you’ve been out of time for so long that you cannot process shit 3) it is my belief that Macky had nobody else as close to him as Wukong was

so, Macky hearing through the very botched grapevine that Wukong is back in the dating scene? man’s is not handling it well. house/apartment/whatever establishment he was staying in is trashed. he replans his revenge against Wukong. he stalks Wukong obsessively bc he has to see that bastard in the act because maybe then he’ll be free. he would sabotage any and all attempts of demons, humans, whoever that whispers about pursuing Wukong because….reasons

(obviously the reasons are not the fact that Wukong moving on terrifies him, the fact that he can be so easily replaced hurts, the fact that he cannot let go despite everything, the fact that Wukong still smiles the same, that Wukong still laughs the same but it’s so much lighter, that he understood what it was like to be loved and cared about by Wukong. to have all of his attention on Macky, to hold him so gently even though these same hands could break him (and have), to be treasured and desired by someone so powerful. how could Mackarell give up something so precious? he is still selfish and has been deprived for f that love for too long. why on earth would he ever wish for someone else to have a piece of what he once had?)

so yeah i’d say they would be coping sO well :)

Love and Moving On

Falling in love is a beautiful thing. We as people are always finding beauty in what surrounds us. When we find our favorite human our natural instinct is to love and keep them at all costs. We have all been in a situation where we have overlooked something we didn't particularly agree with for the sake of keeping the peace and keeping the person. The more time you spend with them the more you are bound to see what you try to overlook and that beauty that was so different and being worked hard to keep starts becoming.. normal. This happens in relationships and it saddens me when there is a partner who's drifted and one who's still in love, but feels the absence of partner A. This isn't a gender specific phenomenon as it happens in relationships across the board as well as the pain that comes with it. I've truly loved and lost, that loss being something I still feel confused about. This is my experience so I understand this is something unique to myself, but I'll share my thoughts in hopes it helps out someone else who might feel how I do..

When you get into a commitment, do you really ever see "the end"? I believe you can feel from the beginning that maybe this won't be something that lasts forever, but I want it to? You want to see it through, your partner seems as though they would like to as well so naturally you keep the ball rolling. Those years come and they keep coming so do the birthdays, funerals, fights and celebrations. Then one day it all comes to an end. Whether that be a fight, cheating or relocations, that person is now gone.. but they're still alive.

You have all of these memories, both mental and physical in terms of gifts/special landmarks with a stranger. This person you've loved for years is gone; all of the growth and setbacks you watched them have, to them becoming who they were while you were together and you will be a part of who they become in the future because you, yourself are now a memory as well. Life can feels so hard in these moments and with social media you can still be updated on their life willing or unwillingly.

As somebody who has now been single for about a year now, I have watched my ex lover of 5+ years move on very quickly. It hurt me deeply. I use this pain to move forward and remind myself there is a reason things don't work out and I can use this as a reminder to keep moving on regardless of the love I hold for this person because our history is just that, history.

The hardest part of being a lover girl is the fact that even when it's all said and done, you still can't help but to wish them all the love even if it isn't with you.

Love is in everything around us and it's up to us to appreciate it and every moment because one day, the good and the bad won't matter. It'll all just be history.

Tiding Over

I don't think you need to read in every lifetime, but this is set in the same, vague universe. Quick primer in case it's not clear in the fic itself: Shirayuki and Obi remember past lives.

Back before it was a cliche, Obi had once made Shirayuki an offer: if they were both still single by the time she was 30, he would marry her. She’d died at 29. Obi had never offered again.

This wasn’t to say that he stopped trying. There was the time he’d brought her a box of sweets tied with a red ribbon - a local custom that signified an intent to court. Just to make her life easier, he’d promised. He’d known about her thing with Zen and had completely respected it. The courting gesture was there to keep everyone away. If they thought he was serious about marrying her, the other nosy townsfolk might stop setting her up with their sons and nephews. If there was a mild, tiny sliver of hope that she might some day settle for him, no one could prove it. She’d told him to not bother with that sort of thing again; she could handle the matchmaking herself. He should save his coins for girls he actually liked.

With the distressing privilege of hindsight, he realizes there is something of a pattern here. He tentatively offers up the in vogue gesture of romantic interest for the era - a carved wooden spoon, sticky rice around two red chopsticks, camping (because the Puritans loved being miserable) - and watches as she gently dismisses them. Lather, rinse, repeat.

The only thing stopping him from bringing it up to apologize and making them both face this thing he’s had for her for centuries is the fact that he’s fairly certain she has never realized the offerings for what they are. That’s not the type of person she is. She’s direct and kind; she wouldn’t leave him dangling because it’s easier than rejecting him outright, nor would she play dumb.

This theory is all but confirmed when he walks in on her being hit on by some frat bro. He misses what the boy originally asks, but he hears Shirayuki say, “Sure, I’ll see if anyone else is free,” as he slips into the lab she’s practically lived in all semester. Apparently he isn’t the only one attempting to lure her away from work.

Her back is turned to Obi and the boy next to her is completely focused on her, so neither of them notice they’re no longer alone. Which means Obi has the distinct pleasure of hearing the boy say, “I thought it could just be us,” and hearing Shirayuki reply, “Why?”

The boy must have caught some movement out of the corner of his eye because, instead of answering, he turned to face Obi.

“Hey,” Obi says with a jaunty wave. “Who’s your new friend, Miss?”

Shirayuki whips around like she’s excited to see him, notebook forgotten on the work station, and he knows for a fact now that it will never get old watching her look happy to see him. She calls out his name in greeting, and he thinks about how no one has ever said his name quite so well because he’s allowed to be pathetic in his own mind.

The frat bro says, “Oh,” and then leaves with barely a goodbye.

“Okay,” Shirayuki says, visibly confused by the abrupt turn of events. “Are we still on for Friday?”

The boy walks faster.

“Friday?” Obi asks once he’s gone.

“He said he wanted to get dinner, but he just left while we were making plans.”

Obi stifles a laugh and says, “A dinner he wanted to do alone while you wanted to make a group thing?”

Despite the emphasis on the word alone, it still takes her a moment to connect the dots. Once she does, her eyes widen slightly before the confusion settles back in. Again, she asks, “Why?”

“Yes, why would a boy not have a crush on a beautiful young woman?”

“I’m not young.”

“And yet, you don’t look a day over 900.”

She gives him a stern look that is rendered essentially useless by the way the corners of her lips tick upward. Instead of giving her a chance to fight him on how at least a third of the school’s population is deeply in love with her at the moment, he tosses her an apple that she just barely manages to catch.

“Come on,” he says. “I’m dragging you away for Yuzuri’s art show.”

“She asked us not to come to that.”

“Which is exactly why we’re going.”

She holds out for about three seconds before she says, “If you’re sure she won’t mind.”

“She’ll love it. Now, come on. If we hurry, we can grab something to eat before we go.”

Shirayuki glances down at the apple she did not ask for and holds it out to him.

“That’s all yours. To tide you over. You didn’t eat lunch, right?”

Shirayuki’s stomach growls in answer.

“Thanks,” she says before taking a bite.

This time, he doesn’t doubt her obliviousness to his courting gesture. The apple is wildly outdated, was popular on a completely different continent, and his presentation is slightly different than tradition dictates, but that’s okay. She doesn’t have to get it. If she doesn’t realize what he’s doing, he can keep using the gestures as a sort of pressure release for himself. He gets to love her quietly. And that’s enough.

i just went digging thru some tags to see if my fics had ever ended up in reclists i hadn't seen before, for obvious reasons of being full of myself but Also so i could remember what people like about them n get back in touch with my writing brain. there WERE in fact a couple recs i'd never seen before, which were very sweet. my absolute favorite involved someone politely asking "hey, you recced this fic really highly but i don't..... like darius..... does he play a big role here.....?" and the response being "he Technically does, but also. you will like him in this fic."
