THOUGHTS ON PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

Spoilers for the West End production

So I've never actually been to a musical before because err... those things cost money 😬 but mum and I managed to see Phantom tonight and AAAAHHHH

ASDFGHJKL IT WAS SO GOOD I CAN'T STOP SMILING AAAHHHH

The bit where the chandelier lifts up and the main Phantom theme is playing!!! 🔥

I just sat there grinning like an idiot 😆

Also set design is just *chef's kiss* 😭

I especially love the Phantom's little sewer lair

I don't even like opera music but I love this

I've seen the film once and listened to the soundtrack a few times but it doesn't even compare to this

But I have mixed feelings and by mixed feelings, I mean these next 3 bullet points:

I want to dance around on a rooftop in a swishy dress with a handsome man in a tailcoat

I want to dance around in a tailcoat

I want to run around dressed as the Phantom

I want all three

Let me have all three

Also kept staring at the Vicomte because err... handsome men in period clothing 🫣

And I know he did bad things

Like kill people

And kidnap a woman and threaten to kill her lover if she didn't do as he said

But like... if the Phantom wanted to serenade me I wouldn't complain 😳🫣

Man's got a good voice!

I was enjoying not crying for a couple days

He's done bad things but ugh 😭

Everyone is so talented omg

And it's even more impressive to me because I can't sing

AND I WAS LOOKING FOR ALL THE TRAPDOORS AND I COULDN'T SEE THEM

SO MANY MAGICALLY APPEARING HOLES 🕳

Laughed more than I expected as well

I don't think I mentioned that the Vicomte ended up with his shirt half undone and sleeves rolled up and WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT MEN IN PERIOD CLOTHING

And I wanna run around as the Phantom so bad 😭 That man's cloak and hat are great

And it felt like he was terrorising our performance which was fun

Overall, it was incredible, the songs were amazing, the cast were perfect and I need to stop crushing on the Phantom because that man is just 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩

I really need to talk for a minute about this new mobile update and how much I as a legally blind person hate whatever the hell is going on with the photos and how it's making this app nearly impossible for me to use

I'm not sure the same thing is happening on the desktop version but for those who may not know in the app whenever you tap on a photo it used to just pop up and you could double tap to enlarge it and zoom in and scroll around and all was great.

A double tap now likes the photo and it must be pinched and pulled to zoom in and out. A mild annoyance, and nothing compared to the rest of the update. If you scroll up, which I do frequently when trying to navigate an enlarged photo, it will send you to ANOTHER photo based on the tags of the post.

That's right, a completely different photo!!! A feature no one asked for and no one wants!! This isn't facebook, or instagram, and maybe tiktok but I never had that so this is a guess. When I click on the photo I only want to see that photo (or in the case of multiple photos in a post I want to be able to easily scroll side to side for those). I do not want to be taken to another post!!! Also if you scroll too far to the left you are then sent to the profile of the person who reblogged the post. I do not know why. Who wants this feature? Is it a feature at all?

As someone who only taps on a photo because I cannot see it and I need to enlarge it, this is beyond a simple annoyance. I cannot navigate the photo like I need, there's a hair trigger on whether it sends you to a new post completely or if you are sent to the profile of the reblogger. Neither, again, are things I want. this leaves me having to back track a lot, re-zoom the photo as it reverts back to normal, and hope dearly that this time I can just read the damned text before it freaks out again.

I haven't seen anyone else talk about this outside of the tags, but really this is making the app unusable for me, and I'm sure for many others.

@staff I know you guys haven't cared about your disabled community much in the past (other photo updates that stopped allowing me to zoom into gifs is proof of that) but please don't make this app unusable for me. I would rather not have to leave.

fionna and cake drawings before and after watching the episodes so far. it’s nostalgic and somehow cathartic and poignant and relatable and—it just started

#i’m part of the demographic where i was a kid when adventure time started and now watching fionna and cake as an adult makes me emotional #because did they keep us in mind when writing fionna and her attitude towards life #the dissatisfaction #the hoping for something more #something more magical than this dreary life filled with working to live and living to work #it’s so reflective of how life feels for me and perhaps many of us #and also Simon’s episode was so sad but so well thought out #exploring his feelings after the events of the adventure time finale is something I’m glad we get to see #there were already so many layers to his character in AT but now it feels like we get to dive deeper #I also felt emotional hearing Rebecca Sugar singing and writing a song that encapsulates his feelings so well #😭 it’s been awhile seeing her work exist alongside these characters #and all of these emotions get stronger because I remember AT being the one to inspire me to be a storyboard artist #when I was younger I used to follow many of the board artists here in tumblr and would get so inspired by them #to create simple but powerful boards that can capture the feelings of characters so well #Rebecca Sugar’s songs for the AT characters inspired me so much too #I’m sorry this is long I’m just feeling so many things experiencing all of this again as an adult #my art #fanart #adventure time #fionna and cake #fionna the human #cake the cat #simon petrikov

I've seen a couple posts now talking about the concept of an AU where Vox somehow gains control over Alastor's soul/contract. While I do agree with the common take that he'd probably try to mind control Alastor or break his spirit at first, I think he'd actually get bored of that pretty quickly. Alastor's appeal is all in his personality; putting him in a situation where he just shuts down and stops giving the reactions that make him who he is would lose its novelty for Vox within a month or two.

Imo, from there I see it turning into a "gilded cage" situation. Vox sets up a nice little club for Alastor to live in; it's classy and Alastor is free to do what he pleases with it, but he cannot leave and whatever Vox says goes. It's a kind of faux freedom that's just tolerable enough for him not to go insane, but just restrictive enough that he still feels like some kind of pet. Vox isn't physically around that often, but he's always watching; Alastor's free to make his own choices, but can only chose from a small, pre-approved set of options. It's actually not too dissimilar to the situation he put his own contractees in, and Alastor loathes that fact.
