Hi, can I request an OS with Lan Wangji and female reader? Reader was given as a gift to Wangji to serve him as a maid by another clan. Reader belongs to a poor background (she was an orphan grown up in a foster home). Reader feels honoured to be his maid and serves HanGuang-Jun with all her heart. Slowly, Wangji developed feelings for reader and started loving her secretly. He becomes protective of her and started getting jealous whenever she gets attention from other mdzs boys. Reader has a crush on HanGuang-Jun but she never expected that someone like Lan er-gongzi who is a noble man belongs to the highest social class can like her, let alone love her(reader is an underconfident maiden because of her poor background). Wangji started dropping subtle hints for the reader to show his love for her. Like, one day, Wangji took reader's hands in his and made her touch his forehead ribbon, which reader misunderstood as a mistake. Another day, he played guqin for the reader when she was unable to fall asleep. Some other day, he kissed her forhead & cheeks when she was playing with his rabbits. One day, Wangji takes the reader to Caiyi town for Yuan Xiao festival. Reader loves going to festivals and fairs a lot since she never got a chance to go there during childhood (she mentioned it to him casually one day) where they both light a lantern together and wish to stay together forever. Wangji couldn't stop himself from kissing her when he feels the reader so close to him which made her really surprised since she didn't believe what has just happened😳 Wangji takes her to a restaurant to eat where someone spiked her tea and reader got drunk. They decided to stay in a hotel in same room and Wangji takes care of the drunk reader. Her cute antics made him laugh and gives him a hard time to control himself as he doesn't want to take advantage of her in drunken state. (You can add as many cute antics as you want as drunk reader is quite adorable and cute). Once she became sober, there, sitting on his lap, reader asks Wangji, "why does he not treat her like a maid anymore? Why did he kiss her?(touching her lips while saying that), What does he feel about her? Why is he holding her in his arms like this as it is forbidden to be like this with a maid?" To which Wangji replies that, "he will never treat her as a maid because she is his woman and he consider the reader as his wife, his soulmate, his everything. And he is holding her like this because she is his and she will remain in his arms forever." Listening to this, reader kisses him and Wangji couldn't control himself anymore so they both kisses each other passionately and things got heated from there between them and they had sex in the hotel room(you can write implied nsfw if you are not comfortable). Lying naked in each other's arms, reader asked Wangji if it is okay to be intimate with a maid? Is it not forbidden to have a relationship like this between a master and servant? To which Wangji made her touch his forehead ribbon and declares that only she is allowed to touch his forehead ribbon as he considers reader his spouse. Reader gets emotional and they had sex again, this time Wangji being gentle with her as she was already sore from previous rounds. Next day, when they go back to cloud recess, Wangji tells Zewu-Jun that he wants to marry the reader ceremoniously and Zewu-Jun shows his concerns regarding Shūfù's reaction as he will never accept reader (a maid from low class) as Wangji's wife. When Shūfù called HanGuang-Jun and Zewu-Jun to talk about this matter, to convince him not to marry the maid reader, Wangji declared that the reader has already became his woman because Wangji has embraced the reader and had taken her virginity, her honour. The marks she bears on her body are the evidence of their passionate night together. Shūfù has no other choice so he accepts their relationship and reader and Wangji gets married in a traditional ceremony and declares their love to each other and vows to stay with each other forever. I unfortunately did had to split into 3-5 parts as it was very long, and there are some parts such as smut that might be uncomfortable for some readers. As not everyone is okay with the idea of smut however, I really hope that you like the one shots, as I personally loved writing it!

This supposed refuge, unfortunately, evolved into a crucible of cruelty that shaped her formative years.
Optimism, naive yet persistent, had once painted this family as her potential saviors, a way out of the torment she had known. Yet, the stark reality unfolded with a grim contrast. Instead of the sanctuary she yearned for, she became a target for their frustrations and anger. Mistakes, no matter how minor, ignited storms of abuse that rained down upon her fragile shoulders.
Her daily life became an endless cycle of servitude. Cooking and cleaning were the tasks she was relegated to, her hands worn from the labor that sustained the very family that ought to have nurtured and protected her. But instead of gratitude, they rewarded her dedication with disrespect, dehumanizing her by spitting on her, a poignant reminder of her status as the lowest rung in their household.
Time went by, and the cruelty only intensified. The shadows of her circumstances grew darker, blotting out any semblance of hope that dared to flicker within her. The family's satisfaction seemed to derive from her suffering, twisting her dreams into nightmares she couldn't escape.

The accusation that Lan Wangji was mean warranted a soft shake of her head. "Oh no, he's not mean," y/n corrected with an air of certainty. "In fact, he's anything but that. Lan Wangji has been a savior in my life, a pillar of support and understanding. His demeanor might seem reserved, but beneath that lies a depth of compassion and wisdom."

"WEI WUXIAN!!!" Lan Qiren's stern voice shattered the calm like a thunderclap, a sharp reprimand that cut through the atmosphere with a forceful command. His displeasure was evident in both his tone and expression, a manifestation of the elder Lans' commitment to decorum and discipline. The echoes of his voice lingered in the air like a tangible reprimand.
Startled by the force of Lan Qiren's shout, Wei Wuxian's eyes widened and his heart raced. He was well accustomed to Lan Qiren's disapproval, yet the suddenness of it always managed to catch him off guard. Without a moment's hesitation, he turned on his heels, his quick retreat evidence of his familiarity with this routine.

and Jin Ling’s hand is where it cradles your face

not when your lips were shiny from the coating of the caramelized sugar
not when your eyes were lit up little a child at the very first bite

the taller boy cringes, pats the little girl’s head as he takes her hand to lead her away

Zizhen’s lips had always been a distraction to you
but when he’s kissing you,
it completely makes you forget about everything else
it’s the loud gagging noise near by that makes you break away from Zizhen’s lips
even then, he still chases after your lips naturally
and you have to catch his face with your hands to get him to open his eyes again
you both turn to the side to see none other than your younger cousins,
when the six year olds meet your eyes, the boys proceed to make even more exaggerated puking and grossed out sounds 
and you huff at them, ready to go and give them lecture,

Wei Wuxian knows he should be grateful that Lan Xichen is here now, smiling at them from behind Lan Wangji’s shoulder, that they’re not going to be forced to wait outside the entrance of Cloud Recesses in a humiliating manner. But mostly he’s just pissed off, at Jin Zixuan for being a jerk, and at Lan Wangji for the same reason, for thinking forgetting an invitation was an appropriate reason to treat them like this. Shijie and Jiang Cheng are clan heirs, just like Lan Wangji is. He’s pretty sure the idea is for them all to get along here.
It’s an insult, plain and simple, and Wei Wuxian isn’t willing to let the Jiang enter Cloud Recesses like this.
“You are most generous,” he says to Lan Xichen, making a subtle hand gesture behind his back that causes all the Jiang disciples to freeze and fall back, no longer walking towards the entrance. He can practically hear Jiang Cheng grinding his teeth from here, but he doesn’t protest. Rank is a tricky thing with them and the disciples and the best solution they’ve found is to never, ever contradict each other when it counts, even when they think the other person is being an idiot. “However, before we enter, I must request you put up your regular wards. I understand the entrance is currently being guarded,” he inclines his head to the two Lan at the gates like he hadn’t been giving them shit thirty minutes ago, “but that’s no reason to be complacent.”
Pointing out Cloud Recesses nonsensical security system is petty, and a bit of an easy target, but it’s better than nothing.
Except Lan Xichen raises an eyebrow and asks, “What do you mean?”
This is just asking Wei Wuxian to trash his clan’s decisions, which makes no sense. Or he genuinely doesn’t know what Wei Wuxian is talking about, which is concerning enough that this is no longer about making a token protest. “You shouldn’t put up weaker wards just because you have guards here now. Even if it’s an energy drain, you should always have your strongest wards up.”
Lan Wangji is giving him a super bitchy look, which is at least what he’d been expecting. Lan Xichen’s voice is still perfectly pleasant when he says, “We do not alter the wards for shifts. I assure you that our wards are constantly set up to provide maximum protection.”
Uh.
Um.
He looks behind him, partially to hide whatever his face is doing, and partially to look at his siblings. Jiang Cheng shrugs and Shijie presses her lips together and gives a slight shake of her head. Okay, wards are his thing, he hadn’t exactly expected his siblings to notice, but from Shijie’s reaction the Lan brothers aren’t messing with him right now.
“I can’t let my shijie stay here if this is your maximum protection,” he says apologetically. He will march them all down back to Caiyi and put them on the first boat to Lotus Pier.
Lan Xichen’s smile becomes a little fixed. “Our wards are put in place by our clan elders. You have nothing to worry about.”
He could stand here and argue with them about it, but. He sketches a talisman in the air, not even bothering to ink it on paper, and sends it forward with an arrogant flick of his hand that he learned from Madam Yu.
As soon as it hits the wards it fizzles, then it all dissolves, the barrier breaking down like a string being cut.
The Lans all turn to it, incredulous. He didn’t know they had facial expressions, but that’s shock if he’s ever seen it. “They are inadequate. They are ancient and predictable and weak.” He starts sketching in the air again, and this is something that he should grab talisman paper for, but it’s easier for them to see this way. “You use silver as your grounding base, right? The air around it tastes like it. Copper is basic and old and resists meddling better, although iron will give you more flexibility for modifications. Your also weakened by using a continuous line rather than a feedback loop. Once one section breaks, the rest follow suit, which means someone only needs to find one weak spot to bring it down.” He has to put his weight into this one, shoving the glowing characters into the nearest pillar and watching his red spiritual energy flare across it. The warding barrier is back up, but different than it was before. Better. “That’ll do for now. The Jiang are happy to provide aid in updating your wards.”
If they don’t accept that help, they’re going home. He cannot handle the stress of being worried about all his martial brothers and sisters all the time because the Lan haven’t updated their practices since Lan An.
They’re all staring at him now. He shifts his weight from one foot to the other, not liking their stares, because he’s not sure what to do with them. They’re not hostile, he doesn’t think.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” Shijie says, voice sweet and full of false politeness. “We may have neglected to introduce ourselves properly. This is Wei Wuxian.”
Those stares are sharper now. “Wei Wuxian,” Lan Xichen repeats slowly. “The Jiang’s first disciple is Wei Wuxian.”
“That’s me,” he agrees cheerfully.
“You are – young,” Lan Xichen settles on finally.
“The invitation said all disciples below twenty one,” Wei Wuxian says, blinking. “I’m fifteen, so I’m here. I distributed my duties among the senior disciples before I left.”
“I encourage you to accept his aid. Senior Brother Wei is a master of talismans.” Ooh, Jiang Cheng must have been more pissed off by all this than he let one. He never calls him Senior Brother.
Lan Xichen looks back at the barrier he’d just put up and says, “I see that.” His smile when he looks at them is somehow both more fixed and more genuine. “I will discuss it with my uncle, but perhaps we do need a bit of an update.” He bows and gestures to the gate. “We welcome the Jiang to Cloud Recesses.”
Wei Wuxian falls back enough so he can walk side by side with Jiang Cheng and tries not to let Lan Wangji’s heavy gaze bother him.

You fell to the ground, cheek swollen, and your friend in rage.. “Jin Ling!” Xiaoyue ( aka me ) shouts from the other end of the room “You’ve gone to far! Take a look at what you’ve done to them!” She yelled, helping you get up. Usually fights like this never happen, but when it did.. Hoo boy, get ready! Because most of the time he will use violence if he is extremely mad at you.

“Xiaoyue, you are not involved here! So get away from them!” He yells back and unsheathes his sword, pointing it at her. He never did such an action! His eyes filled with anger and rage, glaring at you. “If you’re going to keep acting so violent, who’s going to be here fixing most of the misunderstandings?” She answers and you were just there, crying quietly. “Please stop.” You say looking at Jin Ling pitifully, the servants around you felt sympathy for you and more people enter the room. “Jin Ling!” Wei Wuxian calls out his nephew’s name “Stop this instant!” He and Jiang Cheng both shout at the man while you try and Xiaoyue try to stop Jin Ling from doing harm. “It’s their fault!” Jin Ling points at you “It’s their fault! Why are you shouting at me?!” He keeps ranting and tears fall out his eyes, Xiaoyue tries to restrain him but he keeps wriggling out of her grasp and he storms out the room. The doors fling open and the servants rush to you “Young master/lady, are you alright?” They ask but you don’t answer. You didn’t want to talk right now.. And you just sat there, on the floor, crying when everyone around you is trying to comfort you. Still you think that Jin Ling needs it more than you do, you run outside and see Jin Ling crying on the stairs of Jin Lin Tai. “I’m sorry..” He says looking the other way when you sat beside him. “It’s alright..” You say to him and he hugs you while you comfort through the night.

Mo Dao Zu Shi sex scenes and consent: a deep dive
There’s a lot of discourse out there about the MDZS novel and claims that it is “rapey” and has a lot of consent issues.  Now, I’m not the biggest fan of the way MXTX writes sex, and I don’t deny there are problematic elements in them.  But I also feel like people who want to dismiss the entire novel as a result of this or MXTX as a writer are making pretty wild generalizations.  So I want to really examine these scenes and see how objectionable they are.  I’m also going to be talking about translation and how that affects a reader’s perceptions.
There are two sex scenes in the regular novel (i.e. not the bonus extras.) I don’t intend to tackle the extras because they are a lot different in that they are mostly sexual dream fantasies and take place in an established relationship.
Obviously there’s going to be adult content here.  And this is LONG and only the first of THREE posts.  And if you haven’t read the novel I try to explain enough so you can follow along as well.
The first sex scene is in Chapter 95.  And this one does certainly have some consent issues.  Because Lan Wangji is drunk during it.  And as established, drunk LWJ is very different from normal LWJ, plus he doesn’t seem to have any memory of what happens the next day.  So, having sex in that circumstance definitely raises concerns about consent.  But let’s look closer.
So first of all, WWX offers LWJ alcohol but leaves it up to LWJ if he drinks it.  LWJ does.  WWX promises himself he will only ask LWJ some questions, because he’s dying to know if LWJ returns his feelings.  And, okay, that’s not the most morally upright plan.  He’s taking advantage of LWJ’s reaction to alcohol.  But LWJ has other ideas and runs around town stealing chickens and jujubes and carving his name into walls.  
Finally they return to the inn and LWJ is filthy from his adventures so WWX agrees to draw him a bath, heating and carrying the water himself.  LWJ strips in front of him with no hesitation and then when WWX tries to back away from him, LWJ crowds him against the wall.  LWJ begins to tear off WWX’s clothes.  WWX refuses to let him and refuses to bathe with him.  He tries to leave, but LWJ won’t bathe unless he stays.  He demands WWX wash him with the washcloth.  WWX tries very hard through all this to distance himself from the situation, not to take advantage, and to remain decent, despite DESPERATELY wanting to look, to touch, etc.
So then we get to the NSFW stuff, and the beginning of the sexual contact.  
WWX is scrubbing LWJ’s back and then touches his chin and then, has an urge to poke him in the abdomen.  He reaches down to do so and LWJ grabs his hand.  He says, in the Exiled Rebels translation, “Don’t touch me.”  (I’m going to address some translation issues in a minute, but first I’ll describe what happens next.)  
WWX replies that he’s already been touching him all over, at LWJ’s request.  LWJ looks angry and is still holding his wrist so WWX says “Fine, do it yourself, I’ll leave.”  LWJ won’t let go.  WWX splashes his face with water because LWJ is being a brat who refuses to let him leave and won’t let him go. LWJ repeats “I told you not to touch me.” (again ExR TL)  
Wei Wuxian then decides to go for broke, reaches down into the water and grabs his dick and says “don’t tell me you don’t like it when I touch you like this.”  This finally makes LWJ lose control, pull WWX into the tub with him to straddle him and they start making out.  This ultimately leads to LWJ breaking the tub, throwing WWX onto the bed, and then climbing onto him. 
So before I get into the details and specifics of the rest of the sex, what I’m laying out above is that LWJ, while he is drunk, is clearly the instigator and aggressor of the sexual activity, with the one exception of Wei Wuxian reaching down and grabbing his dick in the bath.  Now, that’s a pretty big exception and I always find it weird, but anyway.  Wei Wuxian does not try to seduce him while he’s drunk, he doesn’t try to take advantage of him, he specifically tries multiple times to disengage and leave, but LWJ refuses to let him, even going so far as to physically stop him twice.  So while definitely the drunk sex is problematic on consent due to alcohol, it’s not a situation where the sober person is pressuring the drunk one for sex but rather, pretty strongly the reverse.  Now, WWX ends up, afterwards, feeling very guilty about this and feeling like he’s taken advantage and been “cruel” to LWJ, but that’s because he believes LWJ didn’t want it and only acted that way due to drunkenness, when it’s pretty clear that’s not the case.  But anyway, he feels super bad and so the text does point out this is a problem.
Let’s also take a moment to look into the translation.  I have looked at a few alternate versions of this scene, since I can’t read Chinese myself.  And only Exiled Rebels translates LWJ’s words as “Don’t touch me.”  One gives “Stop squirming” and another gives “stop moving.”  Those are both closer to each other than “Don’t touch me,” which is far more forceful phrase with an entirely different feeling.  The repeat of the instruction is the same as the first in both translations “I told you to stop squirming,” etc.  So that’s just a note on how translation-dependent impressions can be when it comes to these issues of consent.  Having WWX touch him after LWJ says “Don’t touch me” is pretty blatantly a violation, but if the line is “Stop moving” then that’s entirely different.
But then let’s get back to the sex, because people seem to have problems with the sex beyond just the greater drunk sex consent issues.  They find the sex itself “rapey.”  So...let’s look at specifics.
When they are in the bath and kissing, LWJ bites WWX’s lip and makes it bleed.  WWX says “oh” and complains LWJ is “biting like a dog, again.” In vengeance, he rubs LWJ’s dick for a second time and says, 
“How’s that? You angry yet? You don’t know this, Lan Zhan, but I love it when you’re angry...”  
This is an IMPORTANT LINE GUYS. Wei Wuxian really loves angry LWJ, loves to make him angry, to rile him up.  That’s a core principle of their entire relationship.  
When LWJ throws WWX on the bed roughly, WWX yelps in pain and LWJ stops.  WWX immediately takes advantage to flip their positions, hold LWJ down “as hard as he could” and say “I didn’t know you’d be so fierce in bed...”  He bites down on LWJ’s earlobe and sucks hard on it.  This causes LWJ to dig his fingers into him, leaving scarlet marks.  WWX looks at them and says “Why are you being so mean?  Careful, I...”  He’s interrupted by LWJ undressing him.  
So this is the beginning of WWX saying things in bed that I think would be a misreading to take literally.  He’s meeting LWJ bite for bite, hard hold for hard hold, while he’s chiding him for being “fierce” and “mean.”  He specifically says “I love it when you’re angry” while he’s straddling him and rubbing his dick.  I mean, that’s pretty clearly a POSITIVE MESSAGE about him being into the anger/rough aspect of this, right?
I’m just going to screenshot the next bit because it’s both important and long.  It follows a few paragraphs of the both of them touching each other in pleasant but vague ways.

Okay, LWJ is touching him, WWX enjoys this with “unbridled pleasure” and then LWJ starts pinching harder and harder.  At first, WWX “was able to enjoy it but it soon became an unbearable throbbing.”  I’m not sure this is well translated.  The only alternate translation I have of this portion (because this scene was edited by MXTX after the fact to add more) is 
Initially, Wei Wuxian relished it, but after awhile, he felt Lan Wangji pinching roughly on the delicate skin around his inner thighs. This was a sensitive region and with Lan Wangji’s terrifying strength, the area soon became itchy and painful, tingly and numb.
Wei Wuxian again teasingly chides LWJ saying he doesn’t deserve to be called a gentleman.  And “feigning disappointment, he removed the completely ungentlemanly hand.”  He directs him to a different place to pinch, which is left a bit vague, but sounds like a very sensitive place, and tells him to pinch as hard as he wants.  (My alternate translation says “He jokingly moved away the hand that was not behaving itself, chastising teasingly...” If you’re getting the idea the ExR TL may not be the clearest, well...)   But here we have WWX liking something, but then it becomes too painful, so he redirects the hand somewhere else, and specifically asks for hard pinching.  Umm, sounds like pretty clear kink communication to me.
Let’s also look at a clearer alternate translation for that last paragraph above:
In that fleeting moment, Wei Wuxian felt that he had a natural, inborn sense of perverseness in this field. 
Our boy has discovered he has some kinks.  So the text is outright telling us that this is a discovery of WWX enjoying this kind of painful, rough treatment.
After that they stroke each other to orgasm and then we get the miscommunication where WWX says “Thank you” and LWJ reacts badly and WWX thinks he must just have sobered up and regrets everything.  He says he’s not sure at what point LWJ sobered up, and I think that’s pretty unclear to the audience as well.
So anyway, that’s their first time.  I don’t at all dispute that there are problematic elements around consent given LWJ’s alcohol consumption.  But that IS something that is addressed within the text, with WWX feeling terribly guilty for taking advantage and regretting it himself quite bitterly.
However, when we get to the actual flavor of the sex, it’s kinky.  Very obviously so.  Wangxian clearly like rough handling of each other.  But, even in this early scene, it’s also clearly something they are both into.  There IS communication between them.  When WWX reacts with pain, LWJ pauses, and WWX takes advantage and starts pushing HIM down.  When his pinching is too much, WWX communicates that and redirects him to touch his dick instead.  I don’t see any problems there.

“Hi! How do I passive-aggressively say ‘fuck you’ with flowers?” Wei Wuxian asked as he stopped in front of Lan Wangji, delivering his question with a bright, mischievous grin.
Lan Wangji stared, at loss for words, then got to work.
Before he knew it, Lan Wangji was head over heels for this man who came every week with a new request, who had no regard for personal boundaries and talked endlessly.

Lan Wangji hummed softly as he picked a flower, adding it to the bouquet in his hand before taking a small step back to look at it critically. His brother had left in charge of the shop to meet with their uncle but thankfully, the day had been quiet, allowing him to work with only a few interruptions.
Then a man barged into the shop only a few seconds before the closing hour, the doorbell ringing loudly in his wake. Looking up with a faint scowl, Lan Wangji opened his mouth to inform him that the shop was closing but the words died on his lips as he was struck by the man’s beauty.
He looked like a model, dressed all in black save for the red ribbon tying his long hair up in a messy ponytail which swung as he bounced to the counter. The setting sunlight caught his hair, highlighting its deep red undertone, but more than anything, Lan Wangji found himself lost in his eyes. They were bright, full of mischief, and the smile accompanying them was beautiful.
“Hi! How do I passive-aggressively say ‘fuck you’ with flowers?” The man asked as he stopped in front of him, delivering his question with an even brighter grin.
Lan Wangji stared, at loss for words both because of the question and the way the man was looking at him.
Undeterred by his silence, the man pressed on, his smile turning playful as he cocked his head to the side, making bangs fall over his eyes almost seductively. “Your front says you can help everyone say anything with flowers, right? Well, I want to say ‘fuck you’ to someone. But I want to make it pretty.”
“Why?” The question escaped Lan Wangji before he could even think about it.
The man brightened up, visibly delighted to tell him more. “My sister is getting married! But her future husband is a pretentious peacock and like, I love her and I want her happy but he’s an idiot so I really want to tell him to go fuck himself but apparently I can’t just say so, so I was trying to find another way to do that then I saw your shop and I thought, hey, why not say it with flowers!”
Lan Wangji was not gaping but it was a close thing.
Leave it to him to have the most extravagant customer on the rare day his brother left him in charge of the shop. He was also the most beautiful man he had ever seen but that was beside the point.
"So... Can you do that?"
The question snapped him out of his thoughts and he nodded.
"Mn."
He was rewarded with a dazzling smile.
Ignoring the way his heart seemed to swoon in reaction as well as the fact that he should be closing the shop, Lan Wangji started moving around the room to gather flowers while the man babbled on about his sister's marriage and the husband-to-be. Geraniums, for stupidity, foxglove and meadowsweet for insincerity and uselessness and yellow carnations to express disappointment. He paused when he reached for orange lilies to convey hatred though. From what he could hear, it seemed that the man's resentment was not as deep as his sadness to see his sister go so he changed his mind, reaching for daffodils to symbolise the hope of a new beginning instead.
As he put the finishing touches, Lan Wangji couldn't help the small smile that tugged at the corner of his lips. As ridiculous and childish as the request was, it was also... fun. Different. He loved every bouquet he made, spent time picking and choosing every flower to best reflect what customers had in mind, but this was a real challenge.
Returning to the counter, he presented the bouquet to the man. As was confident as he was with his composition, what truly mattered was how his customer felt about it.
"Oh my god," the man breathed out, stunned, then a smile reappeared on his face, as bright as the sun coming out from behind the sky. "It's perfect! You're awesome! I can't wait to give this to the peacock. Oh, can I also ask for another bouquet, something nice for my sister?"
Lan Wangji should refuse. It was getting late, he was supposed to close the shop and head home to have dinner with his family but instead, he nodded. After listening to the man talk about his sister so fondly and sweetly, he already knew which flowers to choose so it wasn't long before he presented the new bouquet to him.
"Oh." The man smiled again but it was fonder, almost nostalgic. "It's perfect..."
Lan Wangji watched as the man cradled the flowers to his chest after smelling them, handling the bouquet with more care than the other. Giving the man a moment, Lan Wangji cleaned the counter and started preparing the shop for the next day. When he looked up, the man was beaming at him and placing far too much money on the counter.
"Keep it all, please! You deserve it, I've kept you from closing and you've done an amazing job. I'm- I never expected this, thank you so much! I'll be coming back," he promised with another of those dazzling smiles and a wink before he left the shop and a lovestruck Lan Wangji behind.

Despite his promise, Lan Wangji had not expected the man to show up a week later.
He was talking to Lan Huan, voice strangely polite and soft, but the moment he saw Lan Wangji standing in the doorway, his face brightened up, his mischievous look returning as he leant over the counter.
"Hi! I don't know if you remember me, I came here last week and asked for a way to say 'fuck you' to my future brother-in-law with flowers?"
How could Lan Wangji have forgotten him? The man had been the only thing on his mind for a week, his voice and his smiles following him even in his dreams.
Lan Wangji had been so lost in his thoughts that his brother had inquired, in his gentle, unobtrusive way. Lan Wangji hadn't answered any of his questions, not sure how he felt himself, but he had a feeling his brother had found his answers at the very moment the man had entered their shop.
"Well, he got the flowers and I'm pretty sure he got the message too," the man continued with a laugh, clueless as to Lan Wangji's internal turmoil. "He's the kind of guy who knows about flowers but he couldn't say anything rude because your bouquet was so beautiful. My brother gave me shit for the prank but well, he always does. Oh, and my sister loved her bouquet! She sent me more pictures this morning, they still look beautiful."
Lan Wangji hummed, pleased, but he gave him an inquiring look. Surely he hadn't come just to compliment him on his work.
The man grinned, visibly happy to have stirred his curiosity. "I need a bouquet that would tell my brother that he really needed to find a girlfriend. Can you do that?"
Huffing softly, Lan Wangji got to work while the man proceeded to tell him everything about his brother, following him around the room as he spoke, sometimes pausing in his story to ask him about the flowers he picked. Lan Wangji could feel his brother's eyes on them but he stubbornly ignored him. He could talk to customers. He simply chose not to.
This time when he presented his bouquet to the man, he received a delighted laugh and a smile that left him in a daze for the rest of the day. Lan Huan must have sense that he wasn't ready to talk about it yet because he remained quiet but there was a soft knowing look in his eyes that promised a talk.

After that, the man came back at least once a week and it wasn't long before Lan Wangji knew his name.
Wei Wuxian. Wei Ying, though he never dared to call him that.
At first, Lan Wangji had been annoyed because as beautiful as he was, Wei Wuxian was always talking.
No matter the hour or the day, Wei Wuxian never stopped. From the moment he would enter the shop with a cheerful 'Lan Zhan!', it would be a never-ending stream of questions and stories while Lan Wangji worked, breaking the peaceful haven that had once been the flower shop.
I had some of my sister's lotus root soup last night, it's delicious! I'll bring you some one day, Lan Zhan. You need to try it, it's- ah, I don't have words, it's amazing!
Lan Zhan, why are you choosing those flowers? What do they mean? Can you teach me?
Did I tell you about the time I went on a lake with my brother and my sister and we ate all the lotus seeds we could find? We were nearly sick by the end of the day but it was so, so worth it. I'll take you there one day!
Ahh, Lan Zhan, I'm so tireeeed! Can I sleep here a bit? I couldn't sleep at all last night, there was a dog barking outside my window. Every time I closed my eyes it followed me in my dreams, ugh!
At some point though, Lan Wangji realised Wei Wuxian had become his favourite part of the week.
He wasn't sure when it had changed, but instead of dreading it, he had started looking forward to hearing the now familiar voice calling his name in excitement and delight. The chatter than had once been infuriating had become a source of joy and amusement.
From then on, they settled into a routine.
Wei Wuxian would come in an hour before closing time, making himself comfortable on the counter to recount memories or his latest adventures. He would often drink from a cup of coffee as he spoke while Lan Wangji moved around the shop to pick up flowers, answering him as he went.
Sometimes, Lan Wangji would leave a little earlier than usual to have tea with Wei Wuxian. This would often lead to them having dinner and then, it was only polite that Lan Wangji would drive him home.
"Er-gege," Wei Wuxian said one day during dinner as he handed him a drawing with a bright smile. "I've got something for you! I looked up the meaning of the flowers before I drew them so hopefully it's right but you have to tell me if I got something wrong and I'll change it, I don't want to accidentally insult you, hahaha!"
Lan Wangji looked down and he felt his heart miss a beat when he saw it was a portrait of him. And it was breathtaking. Stunned, his eyes traced over the delicate yet expressive strokes, admiring Wei Wuxian's talent. Wei Wuxian had drawn him at work, a hand picking up a lotus flower. His hair was up in a similar fashion to the hairstyle he wore but instead of a ribbon, there were flowers in his hair and Lan Wangji felt the tip of his ears burn as he recognised them, their meaning immediately jumping to his mind. Refined beauty, virtue and patience. His lips curled up in amusement. He had certainly deployed immense wealth of patience to stand Wei Wuxian's incessant chatter when he had first met him.
Lan Wangji had no idea when he had started falling for Wei Wuxian, but he knew he fell in love with him for the second time that day.

Almost a year after he had first entered his life, Wei Wuxian barged into the shop with a furious expression.
Shoulders tense, eyes blazing with unhidden anger, he asked for something to express his deepest hatred for the man who had insulted his family. Lan Huan exchanged a look with Lan Wangji then disappeared at the back of the shop, giving them the privacy he felt they needed.
Wei Wuxian was uncharacteristically quiet so after a moment of helplessness Lan Wangji started humming a song he had composed to fill the silence, infinitely grateful that his ever-perceptive brother had left them alone since Lan Huan knew who this song was destined for.
As he had hoped, by the time he was done, Wei Wuxian seemed more like himself. The tension had bled from his body, the fire in his eyes had returned to its usual warmth and there was a faint smile on his face when he bid Lan Wangji good evening.

However, the next week, Wei Wuxian didn't come.
He didn't come the following week either, nor the week after.
After a month, Lan Wangji was more worried than he could say.
After two, he started considering that he might never see him again.
After three, he regretted never making his feelings known.
That same day during dinner, Lan Huan probed in his gentle, careful way, and Lan Wangji told him everything. His brother listened, sympathetic, somehow finding the right words even though there was nothing more to be done.
Lan Wangji had gone to bed feeling lighter.

Six months later, Lan Wangji was alone in the shop once again.
He was working with his back to the door, rearranging flowers that reminded him of Wei Wuxian, when a familiar melody reached his ear.
His hands froze mid-air before hope surged in his heart, bright and overwhelming. Spinning around, his breath caught in his throat when he found Wei Wuxian leaning over the counter, a small smile on his face.
"Lan Zhan, I have a new request," he said, voice playful but his smile didn't quite reach his eyes.
Confused but overwhelmed, Lan Wangji only nodded encouragingly, not trusting his voice.
"I want... I want flowers. For myself. Can you do that?" We Wuxian asked softly.
The request was not particularly strange in and of itself but because Wei Wuxian had never made such a request before, Lan Wangji stared at him for a beat before he nodded again, his eyes softening faintly.
Despite his initial surprise, the flowers came naturally to him as he moved around the room.
He had imagined this bouquet thousands of time before, either daydreaming around the shop or in his sleep as he dreamt of a smiling face and mischievous eyes. When Wei Wuxian had stopped coming, he had found himself making it nearly a hundred times while he hummed his song. Each time, the bouquet had been different, though some flowers never changed.
And just like his song, his bouquet would be a secret declaration.
A few minutes passed before Lan Wangji noticed the silence of the shop. He paused, confused, then glanced at Wei Wuxian as he identified the source of the problem.
Instead of filling the silence with endless babble, Wei Wuxian appeared lost in his thoughts, a faraway look in his eyes. There was none of the usual cheerful energy that always seemed to surround him and make the room brighter. He seemed... dull, a word Lan Wangji had never thought he would one day come to associate with him.
Fighting the uncomfortable feeling of wrongness that settled in his bones, Lan Wangji tried to think of something to say. Seeing Wei Wuxian like this reminded him of the last time he had come to the shop, before he had disappeared. The only difference was that there was no anger or resentment in his silence today.
Lan Wangji hesitated then he started humming his song as he worked, hoping it would help soothe whatever demons troubling him, as it had all those months ago.
He had barely hummed the first notes before a soft gasp of surprise interrupted him.
Surprised, he looked back at Wei Wuxian, hoping he hadn't overstepped, and found him staring, lips slightly parted.
"That song!" He said, some light returning to his eyes along with a smile. "You know that song?"
"Mn."
"I know it too! It was stuck in my mind when I was--" Lan Wangji held his breath, wondering if he might learn what had happened to him, but Wei Wuxian corrected himself. "It's been stuck in my head for months! I've asked everyone and no one's ever heard it. Who wrote it? Where did you hear it?"
Suddenly nervous, Lan Wangji pretended to focus on picking a flower to give himself a few seconds to think.
Now was not the right time to make his feelings known. There was something eating Wei Wuxian from the inside, dimming his energy and the joyful light that had always seemed present in his eyes. Lan Wangji himself was too overwhelmed to properly handle any romantic discussion. So he decided to keep some things hidden, for now.
"I did," he said at last.
He watched from the corner of his eyes as Wei Wuxian gaped at him, surprised, then a delighted expression appeared on his face. For a brief moment, it was as if all his worries had disappeared. It made his heart swoon and silently, Lan Wangji vowed he would always do everything he could to bring a smile to his face.
"My, my, Lan Zhan, you're full of surprises!" Wei Wuxian said cheerfully, smiling brightly as he jumped to sit on the counter. "What's the name of the song? Do you play an instrument? I noticed a guqin at the back of the store, is it yours?"
Bombarded with all those questions, Lan Wangji smiled softly as he reached for the next flowers.
"I do and it is."
Music was apparently a safe topic to discuss because Wei Wuxian enthusiastically started talking about his flute, how boringly easy music lessons had been growing up and how he had made it his personal goal to annoy his brother by playing sad romantic songs around him until he found someone.
Noticing the unfamiliar sadness leaving Wei Wuxian's eyes as he spoke, Lan Wangji deliberately slowed his movements to give them more time, also asking a few questions to keep the discussion going. At no point did Wei Wuxian give an explanation for his disappearance but Lan Wangji didn't press. He didn't need to. If Wei Wuxian wanted to tell him, he would be there to listen. Until then, he was just happy to have him back.
Eventually, Lan Wangji couldn't delay any longer.
Reluctantly, he returned to the counter, adding the finishing touches in the form of a red ribbon, then handed the bouquet to Wei Wuxian.
"Oh, Lan Zhan..." Wei Wuxian murmured, gently taking the flowers from him. Their fingers brushed when he did and they both paused. Lan Wangji looked up to find Wei Wuxian already looking at him, his grey eyes filled with an emotion he didn't dare name. "It's beautiful..."
"Wei Ying..." His name escaped him in a soft breath, an endearment and a plea.
He felt Wei Wuxian's fingers twitch under his, momentarily tightening around his. The movement was nearly imperceptible but it sent sparks up his arms and his heart fluttered in his chest, as fast as a butterfly.
Lan Wangji wasn't sure how long they stayed like that, looking at each other, but the moment was broken by the sound of the bell when someone entered the store. Snapping out of their daze, they both stepped back, Wei Wuxian holding the bouquet close to his chest and Lan Wangji unable to look away. Wei Wuxian was always beautiful but there was a charming blush dusting his cheeks, making him feel like the luckiest man in the world for even seeing it.
"I should- I should let you work," Wei Wuxian said with a nervous chuckle, eyes fluttering between him and his flowers. "Thank you for the flowers, they're... perfect, as always. See you soon."
"See you next week," Lan Wangji replied, more out of habit than anything else, and froze when he realised what he had said.
Wei Wuxian paused too, looking pained for a second, then his expression softened and he smiled.
"See you next week, Lan Zhan."
This time, his smile had reached his eyes.

A week later, Lan Wangji looked up every time the doorbell rang.
He knew Wei Wuxian was more likely to come at the end of the day but he couldn't help it. The thought that he would see him again was thrilling, though he couldn't deny that a part of him was worried. What if he didn't come? What if he disappeared once again? His heart clenched painfully but thankfully his brother distracted him with a new order before he could get lost in his thoughts.
Lan Huan had been strangely distracted too, in his own, subtle way. He would sometimes pause in the middle of a bouquet or his eyes would linger on Lan Wangji, an enigmatic smile on his lips, but when Lan Wangji had tried to ask, his brother had only shaken his head and diverted the conversation so he hadn't pushed. So, he had returned to his own musing.
The minutes ticked closer to the end of the day and still, there was no sign of Wei Wuxian.
Holding back a sigh, Lan Wangji walked to the front door to lock it but the door flung open, a familiar figure nearly falling inside.
"Lan Zhan! Hi!" Wei Wuxian exclaimed, somehow smiling brightly despite panting heavily with his hands on his knees. "Sorry I'm late. I was- I missed the bus then the next one was struck in traffic so I had to run all the way here but- yeah. I'm here! Good afternoon, Lan Xichen!"
"Good afternoon, Wei Wuxian."
Lan Wangji looked behind him to find his brother smiling at Wei Wuxian, a twinkle in his eyes. The two men seemed to have a silent discussion, one Lan Wangji wasn't privy to. Still smiling kindly, his brother raised an eyebrow, Wei Wuxian flushed and nodded with a smile, then Lan Huan disappeared at the back of the shop, seemingly satisfied.
Thoroughly confused, Lan Wangji turned back to Wei Wuxian but he wasn't sure what to ask so he just waited.
"I have a new request," Wei Wuxian announced excitedly as he walked up to him.
Lan Wangji nodded encouragingly.
"I want..." Wei Wuxian trailed off, as if hesitant, then tilted his chin up determinedly. "I want a bouquet to tell someone that I think they're really great."
"Wei Ying-"
"I like you, Lan Zhan," he continued urgently, as if now that the words had started flowing he couldn't stop them. "No. I don't just like you. I fancy you, I love you. And-and I'm sorry for leaving and worrying you but I'm not going anywhere now. I'm all yours, if you'll have me."
Lan Wangji stared at him, momentarily speechless because of the rush of emotions overwhelming him.
He had imagined this moment for so long, it almost felt like he was dreaming. But it was real. Wei Wuxian was standing right in front of him, holding his hand and looking up at him with his bright, hopeful eyes. Lan Wangji could also see hints of nervousness in the way his fingers tightened around his or in the way he was biting his lip as if to keep himself from launching into another endless ramble. Knowing him, he probably was, he thought with a fond smile that made Wei Wuxian beam at him.
Instead of trying to put his feelings into words, Lan Wangji let his actions speak for himself.
Tugging on their intertwined hand, Lan Wangji pulled Wei Wuxian even closer then he bent down to kiss him, raising his free hand to cup his face tenderly, cradling him as if he was the most precious thing in the world. And to him, he was.
Wei Wuxian gasped softly in surprise and he considered pulling away but next thing he knew, Lan Wangji was being kissed back enthusiastically. Wei Wuxian let go of his hand to wrap both his arms around his neck, visibly trying to get as close to him as he could, and Lan Wangji had to place his hand on his waist to steady him.
"I love you," Lan Wangji murmured when they parted for air, eyes warm and soft with love. He was rewarded with a blinding smile and another fervent kiss. He felt as if he could taste Wei Wuxian's joy and excitement on his lips and he smiled against his lips, kissing him back just as passionately.
Eventually, they pulled apart, though it was clear neither was ready to let go because Wei Wuxian kept his arms around his neck. He was grinning up at Lan Wangji, grey eyes shining brightly and lips swollen from their kisses. Lan Wangji smiled back at him and tenderly brushed his thumb across his red cheek, feeling like his heart might burst from happiness when Wei Wuxian leant into his touch.
"Lan Zhan, I haven't even given you the flowers yet," he reproached with a playful smile.
"No need, I have everything I want already."
Wei Wuxian gaped then his face turned even redder and he hid in his chest, a beautiful laugh bubbling out of him. "Lan Zhan! You can't just say things like that! My heart can't take it!"
Smiling fondly, Lan Wangji hummed and kissed his forehead. "I'll give you a warning next time."
Wei Wuxian laughed in delight but whatever teasing words he was about to say in reply were lost to the kiss Lan Wangji gave him.
After that, no words were needed between them.

In my opinion, i even think the show is better than the novel in their presentation of WX relationship ~ ! it feels more natural and less pandering. Another essay suggestion for you if you want to write --- In the show, who do you think fell in love first in WX? When were the "turning points" when they realized?

that all being said, who do I think fell in love first? it was definitely lan wangji, and it was right here:

I think it’s safe to say that he already finds wei wuxian attractive/intriguing (see: his reaction to wei wuxian drawing his portrait, tying the lan ribbon around their wrists, the PEAK gay panic in his voice when wei wuxian trips and falls on top of him), but this is the first moment he’s really moved by him. up until this point, wei wuxian has been teasing, immature, A Nuisance™, too clever for his own good, troublemaker energy personified etc but he hasn’t ever revealed his deeper moral values in front of lan wangji—and he does it like this, without pretension, without irony. He doesn’t spend his wish on something frivolous or material: he wishes to be able to do good for all his life, to be righteous, to be kind. it’s the wish he makes for both of them. “the promise we made together all those years ago,” as he says, half a lifetime later.
like just. imagine, for a moment, being lan wangji, whose whole world is being constantly challenged and needled by this unfairly attractive, chaotic bastard and then he just comes out of left field with this. I think this is where lan wangji first recognizes himself in wei wuxian—that at their core, they share their most important values.
look what i’m saying is this is where I fell in love with wei wuxian.
(sidenote: I really think a lot of the tragedy of mdzs/the untamed is stems from this moment. wei wuxian fails, over and over and over, even when his wish never changes, even when all he ever wanted was to do good without fear.)
i had to think for a really long time to try and decide which moments i wanted to talk about on wei wuxian’s part, because i don’t think he’s nearly as easy to pinpoint. lan wangji falls in love like a lightning strike, but wei wuxian’s love is something that grows so slowly, i don’t think he realizes what it is until pretty late in the game.
so let’s begin with this moment on phoenix mountain:

this is the first time i think wei wuxian is asked directly to label his feelings about lan wangji, and he says, “i once thought of you as a lifelong, intimate friend.” and when lan wangji presses, “and now?”, he doesn’t respond.
two episodes later, when wei wuxian is taking the wen refugees out of their prison camp and lan wangji appears before him, I think he has some kind of answer to lan wangji’s question:

“if there really must be a battle between me and them, then I would rather fight to the death with you. if i must die, then at least i would like to die by hanguang-jun’s hand. it wouldn’t be an injustice.”
if that isn’t some kind of confession, I don’t really know what is.
but it’s too late—he’s now a defector in the eyes of the four sects. lan wangji lets him go and wei wuxian rides away. the remainder of his first life, that’s how things stand. even through everything with a’yuan, the final massacre at the nightless city—even though there’s something really meaningful there between them, it’s all tinged with a sense of impossibility, you know? there’s no outcome where they can resolve it happily. wei wuxian has gone too far down that single-plank bridge.
the first moment i think wei wuxian has to confront the unresolved and unsaid things between him and lan wangji comes when lan wangji gets drunk that one night and tells him, “i have regret.”
“what regret?”
“that at the nightless city, I did not stand beside you.”

“so all this time, you’ve been searching for me?”
earlier i said can you imagine being lan wangji for a sec, and i’m gonna say it again except god. can you. IMAGINE being wei wuxian in this moment. finding out that this person that you maybe suspected you had deeper feelings for but never acted on has spent the entire sixteen years of your death searching for you, regretting that he didn’t stand with you before you died? a regret that he’s been carrying in secret, alone, for sixteen years?? that’s A Lot to unpack.
however, I don’t think wei wuxian really, fully understands and accepts how he feels and how lan wangji feels in return, how far they’re both willing to go until episode 42, at the confrontation at jinlingtai.

even though lan wangji has been walking with him since dafan shan, he’s been doing it with a plausible deniability. and here, when wei wuxian is trying to give him an out, lan wangji puts everything he has on the line so that he can clearly stand with wei wuxian, without dissembling, without hesitation. “the feeling of of walking on a single-plank bridge into the dark truly is no worse.”
lan wangji is finished with regrets.
“it’s just funny, that’s all,” wei wuxian says, “back when the whole world flattered me with praise, you were the only one who would scold me. but now that everyone is calling for my death, all hating and condemning me, you’re nevertheless the only one standing by my side.”
i think after that, for all the remaining episodes, there’s an unspoken commitment between the two of them that underpins the rest of their interactions, which I think I can say without reservation that I like more than how it played out in the novel. EDIT 16 APR 2020: I changed my mind a while ago, ahaha. Turns out, I don’t prefer CQL over MDZS. I love them both so much. ;A; there’s something really profound about it, the trust in their unlabelled relationship. it really feels like the inexorable culmination of two adults in their mid-thirties coming together after falling in love for almost twenty years. there’s a maturity to it that isn’t present in the way the novel does the confession (which does have its own disaster energy™ charm) that I think highlights the fact that they love each other, not just because they admire each other, not just because they’re attracted to one another, but because they understand each other—because when they look at each other, they also see themselves.

10. A new kink you wrote by surprise in a fic this year?
Well, I sure did not expect to be writing breath play, but then I make Nie Huaisang and Xue Yang fuckbuddies and well, here we are. Those two don’t play nice with each other, so I had to... branch out.
Smut is nerve-wracking enough when it’s nice and simple and vanilla, but this was something else entirely!
13. Most memorable comment or review?
It’s so hard to narrow that down, because I have such wonderful readers!
I love that I have “regulars” who comment on each update of my WIPs (some of them across multiple projects? You guys!!!), I love hearing from people whose day was a little better because I updated, I love seeing the emotional reactions, and I adore hearing from those who relate to and appreciate the ace representation in WBKB (not to be too cheesy about it, but it’s kind of a privilege to offer that and know it’s touching people. Here’s hoping I keep getting it right!)
To pick a single memorable comment though, I don’t think I can go past the one that opened thus -

Considering this was left on Confluence, aka the fic that weaponises angst, I cannot blame them whatsoever for calling me evil (it’s well deserved, really). The dedication to the bit really won me over though, and had me giggling as I composed my reply in kind.
19. Favourite fandom event you participated in this year?
Unless my (admittedly terrible) memory has completely failed me, this is a pretty easy one to answer because I only did the one event - the MDZS Women Appreciation Weeks. I split the prompt list with my co-conspirator @megalodont​ and between us we wrote 35 oneshots about the too-sparse cast of female characters in The Untamed.
It was the only time I’ve really done prompt-based writing, and while I usually write every day anyway it was a challenge to have such regular deadlines. Focusing on those characters was a lot of fun though, and I’m really proud of how a few of those shorts came out.

Xue Yang is a boy that grows up in an orphanage where no one cares about whether he comes “home” or not, or what he does when he doesn’t come back - or the condition he comes back in. He is a kid that gets into all sorts of ugly trouble, having had to switch schools more than anyone should be legally allowed to - especially within the last 2-3 years. He had a ugly childhood and now with 16 years old he has entirely given up the good outlook he once had on society. He doesn’t care, knowing doing so will only harm him more than ruining everything he could possibly hold dear when he feels like it so at least it ends in his own terms. Or destroying others, or what they love, anything is better than being harmed in one way or another himself.
He isn’t dumb though. Even if he barely attends a class for half a year, switching schools at last once mid-term, he always makes sure to just so get his grades up enough to get a year higher. As much as he enjoys fooling around, he likes to prove those that dare look down on him wrong with winning last minute.
Around 2 weeks ago he had to switch the school again. He had gotten into a brawl at the closing ceremony of the year in his old school and wasn’t asked nicely to please never return. For around a week everything ran like usually, but on a shitty monday he spotted someone who caught his attention. He even went out of his way to bully some idiot into telling him who the guy was.
It was a tall beauty, nice character, around 2 years older, who was about to graduate at the end of the year: The person's name was Xiao Xingchen.
Xue Yang had already gotten to know that with his history the school wanted him to join a club, trying to force him to learn better social skills - or in hopes he’d join one, cause a mess and be gone quick. He was about to just “fuck off” but after seeing Xingchen he slyly followed him around, getting to know quickly that the beauty voluntarily played some sort of teacher at the cooking club where any teen above the “responsible age of 16” could join.
Xue Yang signed up for exactly that club, just for fun..
However, he had no idea how to cook, nor did he put much effort in.. and thanks to that he came to enjoy a lot of extra help from his senior. It was between idiotic and adorable how Xingchen kept coming to his aid even for something as simple as cooking rice.. even after he had shown XY how to prepare it 5 times already.
A bit of time passed like that, XY was enjoying himself and unsure what he was plotting himself as well.
The bit of time were around 4 months during which XY was so engrossed in his “game” that he didn’t take note of how much time was passing. That was until the club was supposed to take part in a event, like all other clubs as well. It was especially important for the seniors that would go on to uni or work soon, because possible future teacher and so forth would show up.
Not that that mattered to XY.. Not like he cared. Not like he’d go on to do something great with his life. A shitty thrown away orphan like him. Who was the school even kidding.
However, thanks to the event that was coming up XXC spend extra hours after school end with him, trying to teach him each and every single day how to prepare the dish he was in charge of. Of course, XY messed up whatever he could mess up on purpose time and time again.
By then he had began to honestly believe in his heart that he could do whatever & XXC’s patience would never run out. That things were running how he wanted them for once.. He wasn’t even being a true ass at this point, just not putting in effort but apart from that he behaved, smiled, showed respect and was over all nice.
,,Could you please try to do that properly for once, A-Yang?”
XY was fooling around again, just that this time XXC’s reaction wasn’t a little cute chuckle, he sounded like everyone always did: His patience was running out. And the only way in which XY knew how to react was cutting the ties between them painfully, right there and then because if he would end it, if he would be the one landing the final blow before XXC.. he wouldn’t get hurt. Letting out a bitter chuckle, for the first time since they knew one another XY showed his cunning, dark, sadistic side that was only there for his own sake. Saying line’s such as
,,Oh yeh? Why should I? It’s not like I care. I never gave a damn about this foolish club of yours. Do you actually enjoy playing the idiot here for free without getting shit in return? You really don’t get that people are just using you do you?”

XY simply replied, watching XXC leave without even taking a last look at him.
XY grabbed his belongings shortly after, bag thrown over his shoulder as he exited the school that wasn’t lit up by the many lights anymore. To his surprise there was snow falling, even though none had ever been supposed to fall that day..
Staring up at the sky, a thought crossed XY’s mind as he felt a more fluid, less cold liquid run over his face.
The weather perfectly resembled the current state of his soul. He was frozen on the inside, tiny pieces falling off and down from the protective layer of ice he had build around his heart.. like the snowflakes that were sinking to the ground in front of him, just that on his inside it wasn’t such a beautiful sight, even though a lot more breathtaking.
He had wanted to play with XXC so much and was so sure of himself and XXC’s forgiveness and patience that the fact that at the end XXC was the one to push him away, talk to him like that.. It had never even crossed his mind & now it was too late and XXC was gone and at least around as broken thanks to his actions as he was. Not in a million years had XY imagined that he actually had enough power to shatter XXC while all he tried was to keep himself together.
XY ends up sitting down on the stairs that lead inside of the school, his face in his hands,.. for once he’s actually regretting the choice he made in his life right there and then, that the argument happened, that he was how he was and actually.. honestly.. always had hurt himself with that behaviour so far as well.

From there on it can go a lot of ways:
XY can go back and find that XXC doesn’t return, he prepares the dish he was supposed to prepare perfectly and then leaves - XXC finds the dish then.
XY keeps asking someone from the club what they cook and leaves the meal on his former place each time XXC goes out to throw away the trash after all others are gone already
XY keeps his scores up but also his distance to XXC until the event and he shows up relatively well dressed to bring the dish he was supposed to make
XY can go back in & wait to apologise
XXC can find XY
Either doesn’t attend school for several days and the other goes looking for them
XY might even leave the school & XXC tries to get him to come back, only then realising how bad of a situation XY is actually in
A lot of ways to go in. I tried to leave it rather open about whether or not it’s meant as a romantically involved ship but it kinda went into that direction in my mind.

sat under a naked tree on a hot, sweltering afternoon

dabbing the sweat from his brow
Xue Yang remembers
he watches you,
the funny concentration that you have on your face,
the way you have your sleeve wrapped up with the inside out, the softer material showing
how you use it to dab, almost feather light at his brow
Xue Yang blinks languidly, as your robe sleeve travels down his face, right under his chin to catch another drop of perspiration
when you share your water with him soon after,
Xue Yang has already engrained the scent of you
where your robe sleeves had lingered against his face

it is just a graze, nothing that could have caused him immediate danger
but perhaps, because there was such a large stain of blood on his side, from carrying an inner disciple home
and the hems of his purple robes were splattered with mud and dirt
that you had acted the way that you did,
it is just a graze on his shoulder, 
where the bird demon had swooped in for a kill that it didn’t finish
it was nothing serious
but you look close to crying as you open the ointment to apply on his wound 
“i can do it myself,” Jiang Cheng begins but you simply ignore him, as you’ve gotten very good at 
you’re just his assistant, his personal assistant, but nonetheless still
perhaps he’d been too soft with you
“you can’t reach this anyhow,” you tell him softly, going to sit behind him 
he feels you lower the top of his robes,
just enough 
and then the coolness of the balm, and the delicate way that your fingers spread it against the burning wound
it is just a graze, 
but with the care and gentleness that he receives from you
he already feels better tenfold
Xiao Xingchen
Xingchen had always done everything by himself,
as a rogue cultivator, that was his lifestyle
as of recently becoming blind,
he only had his other senses to rely on 
Xingchen has not been cared for in a long time
because he could take care of himself just fine
yet when you stumble into his life,
a rogue cultivator injured, picked up on the way
and somehow simply chose to stay
Xingchen finds someone to rely on for the first time
and ever since he’s been blind, Xingchen had always changed the wrapping of his wounds himself
but on a foggy morning, 
where the sky is grey and little light peaks through
Xingchen beckons your help
and though he should feel vulnerable as you untie the white wrapping around his eyes and see his scars, his hurt
he doesn’t
just feels warm at the gentleness that you use as you change the wrapping,
the softness of your skin as your fingers brush against his cheek
and begins to get used to how your hand lingers at the back of his head

The Untamed (陈情令) Review: Ep 25
!!! SPOILERS AHEAD !!!
Previous episode review: 1 and 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16,17, 18,19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24.
I can’t believe that one of the first substantive lines in this episode was also Exhibit A of JZX’s Unbelievable Tsun-ness in this episode. I.e. when JYL agreed to attend the Jins’ hunt: “That’s great! I mean... My mother will be very glad to see you there.” XD
Grab your snacks and get ready for the drama that went down at the Jins’ hunt! I swear, this is the closest that the series got to resembling reality TV. Hahaha.
Oh damn, did JGY come up with the idea of basically using the Wen sect remnants as human targets for shooting?! Is the live-action really trying to blacken his character here or what??? But OK, I like how the live-action changed the things up such that there was a real reason for JZX and WWX to show off their archery skill so...
Heh, that moment when both JC and LWJ had a “-_-” reaction when WWX asked to borrow LWJ’s forehead ribbon. Love how the live-action keeps playing up the similarity between JC and LWJ ;) 
On a side note, when WWX asked to borrow LWJ’s forehead ribbon, was WWX just looking for an excuse to talk to LWJ or what? I mean, LWJ’s forehead ribbon was really way too thin for WWX to use as a blindfold so...? 
On another side note, can we talk about how the only 2 people whom WWX was shown to have really looked towards to see their reaction after he took that spectacular blindfolded shot were JYL and LWJ??? :)
HOLY SHIT, THAT DIALOGUE BETWEEN WWX and LWJ IN THE MOUNTAINS! That was probably the closest those 2 dumbasses ever got to actually confessing to each other in any version of MDZS so far. It was such a intimate conversation that I don’t even mind that it replaced the blindfolded kiss scene in the novel. I mean, WWX actually went so far as to say that he was LWJ as his lifelong confidant/confidant of a lifetime!!! :):):)
Exhibit B of JZX’s Unbelievable Tsun-ness. “Do you not like attending hunts? Or do you not like being with me?” OMG, JZX, you can’t just say stuff like that! -_-’’
Oh DAMN, JYL was on fire when she subtly exposed all of Jin Zixun’s BS and requested that Jin Zixun apologise to WWX. Have re-watched this scene a couple of times already and I don’t think I will never get tired of watching it. :)
LOL, the Twin Jades, JGY and Yao Sect Leader really do have the best timing! They all literally strolled into the scene just as Exhibit C of JZX’s Unbelievable Tsun-ness appeared (AKA when JZX got into his  tsun-filled confession). Was especially amused at LXC being visibly amused at JZX’s tsun-ness. ;) 
Oh DAMN x2, JGY is really too good at this. In just the blink of an eye, JGY went from being subtly amused at JZX making a fool out of himself to strategically needling at JC’s insecurities about WWX.
WQ! WQ turned up at Jinling City and she and WWX crossed paths there! Oh man, this episode is just one good thing after another. :)
Just when I thought this episode couldn’t get any better, the live-action team decided to top it all off by ending this episode with LWJ’s infamous line, “I want to bring someone back to the Cloud Recesses. Bring back. To hide.”
On a side-side-side note, I realised that we are already halfway through the live-action and we are STILL going through WWX’s flashbacks/not back in the present timeline yet. 0_o
Overall: 10/10. The WangXian and JZX/JYL shipper in me is completely satisfied with how things turned out here. ‘Nuff said. :D

Wei WuXian didn’t think he was breathing.
He didn’t think he was breathing because the air felt leaden in his lungs as it sat like an ominous weight right in the center of his chest, just waiting to burst forth straight out of his rib cage.
He’d been trying to think, trying to piece together some sort of coherent thought or explanation or just anything at all, but all that he could come up with was a broken loop of why, why, why, why.
He understood why, but that didn’t mean he had to comprehend or accept it. He understood that Lan Zhan was a stubborn, headstrong man with a will of iron forged in the most searing of flames in the high heavens. He understood that once Lan Zhan loved, there was nothing or no one who could sway him otherwise (because, deep down, the six-year-old boy who resolutely sat on those stone steps to wait for his mother to open the doors for him was still there, still patiently waiting even then after all this time—and this was already more than enough evidence should anyone ever want to know exactly just how unwavering and unfaltering Lan Zhan could be once he’d decided that he’d give someone hold over his heart.)
Wei WuXian understood it all, but as it was, he didn’t understand why Lan Zhan just had to go to this length for him.
He had been trying in vain for what seemed like hours to stop the discipline whip from striking and cutting any more slashes into Lan Zhan’s already bloodied, torn up back, the wounds so deep Wei WuXian could see the sickening sight of white bone peeking out in some places underneath the shredded flesh. He knew there was no use to it—whatever remaining rationality screaming at him that this was just a memory of the past flashing by—but he couldn’t help it.
He had to do something when there were people were hurting the one person he loved most in the world.

By the end of it, Lan Zhan was bedridden for three years.
By the end of it, Wei WuXian couldn’t remember what his past counterpart had been doing during those three years up on LuanZang Gang anymore. All he could hear and see, taste and smell, were the tears and sweat and blood that shedded for him.

“Don’t go so fast,” Wei WuXian said into this quiet void of talking to himself, itching eyes watching as Lan Zhan, in a frantic panic, dressed himself and proceeded to ignore every unbidden wince of pain that he was pulling out of his own lips thanks to that series of hasty movements that were disturbing those barely healed wounds. The slashes had still bled sluggishly sometimes, even after three years. “Worry about yourself first.”
Those were futile words.
Lan Zhan had disappeared from Yun Shen Buzhi Chu that day and had brought himself—no matter the pain it took—to LuanZang Gang. To the one person who had directly and indirectly caused him all the hurt, beyond the physical sense, that he had been bearing for years and years on end.
But long before he had managed to drag himself there, the Wei WuXian of this bleak past had already been long gone from the world.
(Wei WuXian didn’t think he would ever forget the sheer desperation that had been on Lan Zhan’s face as he had looked around in search for any traces, any remaining traces at all, of the person whom he given everything he could to protect.
There had been none.)
And Wei WuXian wondered, numbly, what had kept Lan Zhan searching. Stubbornness? Despair?… Hope? It was hard to say, and in the meantime, Wei WuXian was trying his utmost best not to look too closely at his surroundings anyway. The broken pots on the ground, the makeshift houses razed to the ground, the just growing crops burnt and mercilessly squashed… The Wens had all died in this place along with him.

It wasn’t until Lan Zhan pulled a too thin, unconscious and feverish boy out of the hollow of a tree littered with all sorts warding talismans, that he could feel the coiled tension in the pit of his stomach relax incrementally.
A-Yuan had subconsciously clung onto Lan Zhan like a lifeline, and either too far gone or thinking that there had been no one around to witness it anyway, Lan Zhan had allowed a grief-stricken look to shroud over his face, and Wei WuXian could only cast his eyes out into the dark expanse of the starless night sky above, overwhelmed and exhausted yet relieved at the same time despite himself. Despite already knowing that Lan Zhan would eventually find this poor boy who had once called him Xian-gege and had now become the sole survivor of an entire family.
“A-Yuan ah…” Wei WuXian whispered, hand motioning in an attempt to try and stroke a hand through the child’s sweat and dirt matted hair that he could still remember to be so soft and tender. “You’re safe now. He’ll take good care of you.” Better than I could’ve ever done myself.

Wei WuXian thought he remembered where his soul had gone, after that sweeping raid on LuanZang Gang, but he wasn’t thinking about it. Instead, the sound of the guqin lingered with him, as much as it had done with Lan Zhan, almost everywhere, constantly, the hauntingly desolate notes wrapping around him like binding threads of gossamer. Spinning and spinning and spinning.
Lan Zhan had played Inquiry everyday (like he he had kept waiting for his mother to open the door to receive him into her arms everyday even though he had no longer come by to sit on the steps of her private quarters anymore after his schedule had gotten too irregular to keep up the habit.) He had played Inquiry every day, had gone to buy Emperor’s Smile whenever he had missed the bright boy of the past and his rich laughter too much, and had gathered every piece of Wei WuXian that he had still kept from long ago together to form what almost seemed like one last final breath of a life before had died out in a shriek of agony.
He’d held onto all of that, tucked them away for safekeeping, and continued playing that one song of Inquiry day after day without fail.
Wei WuXian looked at his husband, his hands ghosting over the too silent strings that was the hallmark of an unanswering soul, and wondered what would have become of them, of Lan Zhan, if Mo XuanYu hadn’t given him another chance at life.
(The idea of Lan Zhan, cold and alone and unable to move on from this almost terrifyingly encompassing love, love for a person—for all he had known—who was never coming back, made Wei WuXian shudder as the despair bubbled up from deep inside his chest and spilled over like spider lilies falling into the darkness.)

His limbs were cold, and Lan Zhan, just like that, was clasping Wei WuXian’s hands with his own his steady, warm ones, all the while blowing hot breaths onto the icy palms and kneading the underlying muscles for better blood circulation.
Lan Zhan allowed him his silence for a few long moments before cracking his lips open and saying, “It’s not your fault.”
“You told me that already,” Wei WuXian replied sullenly, head heavy with a pulsing pressure wedged right behind his eyes.
“It’s true.”
Wei WuXian pursed his lips and said nothing. His fingers were still stiff with cold.
“I…” Lan Zhan began again, and for a man of not many words, he was trying hard to get this point across. Because it was important. “I do not want there to be any sense of gratitude or apology between us.”
“That’s not—” Wei WuXian was in the process of shaking his head in denial when Lan Zhan levelled him a pointed look, one eyebrow slightly arching upward, and Wei WuXian clicked his mouth shut at that.
Lan Zhan sighed, the circular motion of his massaging thumbs moving steadily along Wei WuXian’s hands until they settled over inner, sensitive skin of his wrists now. And he tried again, no interruption this time: “I do not what that because everything I did, I did because they were right. No more.”
Meaning, Don’t feel grateful towards me when I was only doing the right things.
Meaning, Don’t apologize when I have no regrets.
Meaning, You were—are—right to me.
Because unlike his father before him who had had to lock both himself and his own wife, the love of his life, away because he couldn’t reconcile the conflicts he had felt over loving her so much even though it had been wrong and had gone against every teaching he had received since young, Lan Zhan knew that this love, to him, was right.
Wei WuXian was right, to him. For him.
“You told Jiang WanYin it was better not to dredge up the already bygone past, and this is the same.” Lan Zhan leant down, pressing gentle kisses over the pulse in Wei WuXian’s wrists. “We’re here now.” As in, what’s done is done.
Let’s enjoy the present.
And Wei WuXian closed his eyes, throat tight with the piercing of a thousand needles, but at the same time, he understood this. He comprehended what his husband was saying, and he agreed. The past was the past, and beyond that, it was already another lifetime for him, and if he kept living in regrets, even now that they had gotten married and had only just begun spending their lives together for the rest of their days to come… Then what was the point in all that suffering that they had gone through to be with one another? What was the point in all the pain that Lan Zhan had endured?
Gratitudes and regrets poisoned a relationship, and Wei WuXian should know this better than anyone else.
So he surged up and settled himself into his husband’s embrace, arms wrapping around him and holding him close. Never leaving. Never again.
“I love you,” Wei WuXian said, a genuine smile on his lips despite the sadness that was finally ebbing in his eyes. He was happy. Happy that Lan Zhan had gone out of his way and tried so hard to explain his thoughts to Wei WuXian, laying his heart out in the open like that, just so there wouldn’t be any misunderstanding between them.
“Mn.”
(It was an almost terrifyingly encompassing love, but at the same time, Wei WuXian didn’t mind. His love was possessive, too, with the weight of too many losses and the stigma of a madness that hadn’t quite faded away even after crossing over lifetimes. And that was just how they were… They helped balance each other out and made themselves all the more stronger for it.
In the end, this was all that they had ever wanted or needed.)
