Orange peel theory
requesting your partner if they would peel an orange for you.
my opinions that I feel strongly about
Tumblr media
Luke
This guy would do it, no questions asked. And present you with the final product. A walking green flag.
Jaime
When you ask Jaime peel an orange. He’ll take it, peel it, and proceed to eat the whole thing in front of you.
Bosch
If you ask Bosch, he’ll say why can’t you do it. But before you could give him a proper response, he would take it anyway and start peeling it.
Chun-li
Not only would she peel it for you. She’ll take her time to make it look pretty too. No stray white bits or punctures in the skin of the orange.
Juri
Asking Juri to peel an orange for you can go one of three ways. She might take it and crush it between her fingers, only for her to drop it at your feet. If not, she’ll ask what she would get in return. Or she’ll say no and to do it yourself.
Ken
I feel that Ken would peel the orange, no problem, but he’ll definitely take half of it for himself and give you the other half.
Ryu
He would also wordlessly peel the orange and give it back to you. Ryu would peel it at the top and move in a circular motion all the way to the bottom, leaving a spiral peel. He won’t make it look super neat but you’ll get a peeled orange with no complaints.
Kimberly
When you ask Kimberly to peel it, she’ll do it without a second thought. And asks if you are willing to share with her.
Marisa
Only one? She can do ten more. Not only that, if you’re still hungry, she’ll have a big feast for your next meal. Saying It’s good for you to get stronger!

From An Island To A Home (Marisa/Fem!MC)
Or me just being gay after playing a game on my goddamn phone.
Warnings: Smut. (FIRST TIME WRITING IT).
Ps. Both Marisa and Naomi are like my types like- HOW DID THEY KNOW-
"You know that this is amazing, right?" Marisa exclaims as she looks over at your whole apartment.
You've never fully disclosed what your job was during the show. Nor your age, but you already told Marisa that you were 23.
"Is it?" You ask anxiously. Your apartment was your sanctuary. Your coworkers never even stepped inside. It was yours. The one thing in your life that you never truly shared with meaningless friends and flings. You'd rather spend the night in their place than yours.
Having controlling parents that did not approve of your hobbies and your sexuality made you hide things unconsciously.
Hiding your pain and your dreams. It was reflex.
But during the show, you told Marisa so much. How much you loved reading. How you love gaming. And she smiled through it all.
"It is. Babe. This is wow." She exclaims again and you grin.
"You haven't seen nothing yet." You take her hand and Marisa can't help but blush as she feels the warmth from your hand. It's been too long since she held it. She really needed to move in with you. She didn't care where. She just needed to be by your side.
You open another room and lead her inside. This was your gaming room and if your living room was just full of books. This room was full of figures. Your favorite characters. The ones you relate to. They were all here.
"Whoa. This is amazing. How did you-"
"It kinda began when I got the place. Some college kids wanted fast cash and decided to sell their figures that are assembled and out of the box so I bought them and now whenever someone I like has a figure coming out, I just go ahead and buy it." You blush as you explain. It was a reminder. That these characters exist. That you relate to them. That you're not that weirdo that you used to think you were.
"Y/N." Marisa calls out your name and takes your hand. "This is amazing and gorgeous." You smile fondly at Marisa and close the distance between your lips.
"Thank you for thinking so." Marisa pulls you in again and you indulge her. The kiss was starting to get heated so you quickly pull her onto you and she wraps her legs around your waist. Marisa grins as you easily carries her to your bedroom. Unlike your living room and gaming room, your bedroom was simple. Just a tv, a bed, closet and a couple of posters.
"I have a confession to make." You say as you put Marisa on the bed. She raises an eyebrow at you as if asking "Right now?" You grin then kiss her, you leave her and go to your closet. "I kinda have more suits than dresses." Marisa revels as you open your closet. Those marvelous dresses from the show were nowhere to be seen and it was full of blouses, pants and jackets. "Those dresses were chosen by me and Joan specifically for the show. I kinda want more comfortable so-"
"Wear one." You stop in your tracks and look at Marisa who was staring at you, seemingly dazed.
"One? Right now?" She nods vigorously and you smirk. You close the closet and hum. "How about later, love?" You get back to her and kiss her to distract her. "How about you undress me first?" You ask and Marisa eagerly nods. You laugh as you sit on the bed and Marisa straddle your lap. She gets rid of your shirt and you hum as she looks at your body. You take her left hand and lick her fingers. You see her visibly gulp at your actions and it made you want more. "Next." You say and Marisa can't help but blush at your commanding tone. She nods as she shakily reaches for the hook of your bra. She unhooks it easily enough and tosses away the bra. You smirk as you see the dazed look in her eyes. Please, she was even more sexier than you. But still, it does help boost your confidence through the roof. "You can touch, baby girl." The new endearment makes Marisa shudder and she hugs you.
"You're unfair." You laugh at her whine and hum as you undress her as well. You quickly unhook her bra and revel at her sexy body. God, how did you get this lucky. You kiss her neck and she hums in satisfaction. You slowly travel down to her chest and she flinches as you lightly bite her nipple. She looks down at you and you smirk as you lick her nipple. "Y/N, please." She moans as you hum and undo her belt. You toss the belt aside then carry Marisa, gently putting her down on your bed. You unbutton her pants and smile at her wet panties. You make quick work of her panties and take off your own pants. You couldn't wait anymore and Marisa moans as she feels your tongue on her clit. "Y/N." She calls out and you hum as you hold her hand.
"You taste lovely, baby girl." She shudders at the endearment and you decide that it's your favorite one now. You don't see her glare at you though as you go back to pleasuring her.
Every moan you get meant that you were doing the right thing and she was shouting your name before you knew it. You hum as you gulp down her cum then smile at her. You kiss her forehead as she stares at you.
"Was it good?" You ask and she nods as she pulls you in for another kiss.
"You're amazing." She compliments and you smile at her. This woman truly holds your heart. "I want more." She pleads and you grin at her.
"Who says I'm done with you?" You ask and Marisa felt herself getting hotter again. She really wants to move here now.
-
You hum as you look around your bedroom. Marisa was understandably knocked out as you didn't let her reciprocate once. You wanted to let her know how much you love her and it just- well, you just couldn't control yourself anymore. You go to the bathroom and get some water and towel. You didn't want to let the love of your life to get some cold while she slept. As you were finishing cleaning up Marisa, your phone rings. You hum as you look at who it was.
Joan. Your best friend and whom you consider as your sibling from another crib. You answer as you put some pajamas on Marisa. It was one of your only silk ones, gifted by some friends of yours.
"Okay. This is wild. Are you saying that you want to marry her?? You haven't even lived with her yet, Y/N." You hum as you get your own pajamas.
"I technically did already, Jo."
"YEAH. Along with nine other people." You skillfully put on your pajamas and sit on the bed.
"Jo. I love her, okay? She just-" You struggle to find the right word for a moment and smile as you look at Marisa. "Completes me. It's as if everything I ever did finally made sense. It was like this magnet that just keeps pulling me to her." You hold Marisa's hand as you tell Joan. You can hear Joan hum from the phone and can't help the nervousness in your system. You love Marisa and Joan. The both of them held different parts of your heart. Joan was the sibling you never had through your elder brothers and Marisa was the puzzle piece that completed your life. You couldn't do it without the both of them.
"Alright, I concede." You sigh in relief at that. "Besides, both Claire and Kim are excited for the wedding, anyways." You chuckle at that.
"Ready to be flower girls, huh?" Joan hums at that. confirming your theory.
"You're down bad, huh?" She asks and you smile as you kiss Marisa's hand.
"If I could, I would do it right now."
"Scoundrel. Propose first." Joan says and you laugh.
"Look who's talking. You literally just dragged Lei to her parents' house and declared you were going to marry her. She literally cried on the way home."
"I knew it was a mistake on letting you drive that day." You laugh at her.
"Too late. So will-" Before you finish your sentence, the phone was taken away from Joan and you hear Lei's voice.
"I'm planning meticulously, now scram. I need round four." She hangs up and you giggle.
You text Joan instead.
You : Slowpoke. She's already passed out.
You chuckle as you plug in both your and Marisa's phones. You expect to get a middle finger from Joan by tomorrow morning. You cuddle Marisa from behind and smile softly as she quickly adjusts herself to your body. It was as if it was ingrained in her. "I love you so much, Marisa." You declare and close your eyes, letting sleep overtake you.
-
You wake up first in the morning and hum as you pull Marisa closer. You hum as you smell her scent and before you know it, your hands were already on her waist.
"Did you not get enough last night?" Marisa asks as she turns to you. You raise an eyebrow at her.
"Bold of you to assume that I'll ever get enough of you." Marisa giggles as she pushes you away. You pout as she sits up.
"Good morning, Y/N." She greets and you smile softly at her radiant figure. She looked so heavenly as the sunlight from your window were around her.
Goddamn, you really hit the jackpot this time.
You hug her and kiss her neck. "The best morning."
"You're acting as if we never slept together before."
"All my best mornings will only need you in it." You bite her neck lightly and Marisa shudders as you let your hands roam.
"Y-Y/N. Really not enough?" You smirk before lightly biting her ear that makes her moans.
"Not even close, baby girl." Your favorite endearment makes her shudder again and you smile as your hands cup her boobs.
"Y/N. Breakfast?" Marisa desperately needs sustenance by this point. You even realize you haven't had dinner yet last night before she passed out. But you just wanted her one more time before finally letting her go.
"You mean you?" Marisa moans as you slowly massage her boobs. Marisa moans even more loudly as your right hand was already at her wet core. "I'll make it fast, I promise." And Marisa believes you as quickly make her come.
-
You were humming as you cook breakfast for both you and Marisa while Marisa takes a shower. You were just finishing plating up the classic bacon and eggs when your doorbell rings. You take off your apron and put it on the counter before making your way through your living room. The doorbell rings once again as you open the door to your apartment.
"You asshole." Joan greets and you laugh at her. She shoves you a folder and a crate that currently houses your cat Gigi.
"My daughter!" You exclaim and Joan sighs.
"You asshat." Joan says and you grin as you let her come inside.
"What's the folder about?"
"Some data of the clients while you were gone. June was so stressed out by the way." You chuckle as you free Gigi from her crate and the cat immediately jumps on you.
"Tell June that she's stressing herself out for nothing and that she should've ask Mia for help."
"You know those two." Joan says as she goes straight to your fridge. "Despite their perfect marriage outside of work, their rivalry still baffles me and everyone else." You hum as you pet your cat.
"I mean, the make up sex must be so worth it." Joan glares at you and you grin at her as Gigi jumps off you.
"If only your girlfriend is not here. I would have dumped this whole glass on you." You chuckle and speak of the devil, Marisa appears while she was drying her hair.
"Hey, babe." You revert back to your old endearment. And Marisa notices Joan.
"Hi, um-"
"You seriously never told her about me?" Joan asks as she glares at you. You chuckle and grin at Marisa.
"Remember Joan, babe?" Marisa's eyes light up in recognition and she quickly hugs Joan.
"She told me so much actually! It's nice to finally meet you!" Marisa's enthusiasm was contagious and even Joan grins at her.
"It's nice to meet you too."
"Is Lei, Kim and Claire around too??" Marisa asks and you smile at Joan as you see her visibly soften her stiff stance.
"They're not but maybe you could spend dinner with us? Kim and Claire don't have clubs today so around 6 pm should be good." You chuckle as you lightly browse the folder.
"I'll take her there. See you at 6." Joan nods then finishes her glass of water.
"I have to go then. I just made sure that Gigi came home. I have to drive to work, still."
"Be careful!" Marisa says and you smile as Joan nods. The door opens and closes in a matter of seconds.
"I'm excited to meet Claire and Kim!" Marisa says to you and you put down the folder to smile at her.
"They're excited to meet you too." You gulp as you think about the blabbermouth tendencies of your nieces.
'Hopefully, they don't spill the beans.' You think as you serve breakfast to Marisa.
-
You and Marisa spend the afternoon just reading and relaxing. You knew that your relationship with her wasn't just about sex and she says that she didn't want to dirty your nieces' eyes.
Thankfully, the marks that you planted on her neck was already gone by the time you were both ready to go.
You hum as you wear your simple T shirt, a light blazer and jeans. While Marisa wears a simple sundress.
You smile at her, clearly proud, and she blushes.
"You look absolutely beautiful, love." You say and she flushes even more.
"W-we should go." You hum as you open the door for her. You lock your apartment door and hum as you hold Marisa's hand.
-
You hum as you park your car in front of Joan's house.
"MOM! Aunt Y/N is here!" You hear from outside and you can't help the smile that overtakes your face. You open the door and smile as Claire and Kim give you a big hug.
"MY BABIES." You exclaim as Joan gets outside and rolls her eyes at you. Marisa giggles as you put down the girls.
"Babies meet Aunt Marisa. She's my girlfriend." Claire squeals in joy as she clutches on Marisa while Kim holds your hand. Kim really takes more from Joan than they thought. You hold Kim up and kiss her forehead while Marisa carries Claire who is grinning at you. You look at Joan who is observing her daughters. "They're ours now." You proclaim and Marisa blushes as she pushes you lightly.
"In your dreams, Y/LN. Make your own."
"I didn't spend nine months with those two inside me just so you could take them away." Lei says as she hugs Joan. You just grin at them as you carry Kim inside while Marisa follows you with Claire.
"Lei, Marisa. Marisa, Lei." You introduce and Lei hums as she semi hugs Marisa with Claire in between them.
"Glad to meet you." Lei says and Marisa smiles at her.
"Still haven't changed, huh?" Joan rolls her eyes at your comment as you put down Kim and Marisa puts down Claire. You take off Marisa's coat and yours and put them on a rack.
"Why change something if it perfectly works?" Joan challenges and you smirk at her.
"Home gym?" She groans and you giggle.
"She got you there, baby." Lei kisses Joan's cheek before she gets back in the kitchen and you take Marisa's hand then let her sit down on the sofa.
"I'll just get our gifts." You wink at her and she nods. You leave her alone with Joan, Kim and Claire. Seems like they were building some Lego before you two arrived.
"Do you play, A-aunty Marisa?" Kim asks shyly and Marisa shakes her head.
"Do you want to teach me how?" Kim beams and nods as she sits in between Marisa's legs. Joan smiles as she helps Claire with her blocks.
"I forgot how many I packed up." You grunt as you place all the gifts down. It's not like you missed anything grand. But you still didn't see them for seven months after all.
"That's too many." Lei says and you hum.
"I bought you that one pasta maker." Lei squeals and takes said gift from you.
"Okay, maybe not too many." Joan looks at you.
"Got you the New Tears of Kingdom."
"Collector's?" You nod and Joan takes it with a smile.
"I got the girls many clothes. Like maybe too many."
"Eh. With how active those two are, it's a blessing." Joan takes them all and you hum as you join Marisa, Kim and Claire.
"What are you three building?"
"Your house!"
"House?" You raise an eyebrow and look at Marisa who blushes and focuses on the Lego.
"Yeah! I'm building the swimming pool!" Claire smiles.
"The library like your living room." Kim pipes up and you hum. You sit behind Marisa and she flinches. You hug her waist and she already remembers that morning.
"House, huh?" You ask softly and she nods. "Maybe after the yoga studio."
"So, how far is Marisa's house from here?" Lei suddenly asks so you let Marisa's waist go.
"Apartment. Actually nearer than mine." Lei hums as she gets Kim.
"Time to eat dinner." Kim nods and she puts her arms around Lei. Claire happily goes to the kitchen by herself. And you stand before helping Marisa. You hold hands as you both go to the kitchen.
-
After an eventful dinner, you drive back to Marisa's apartment while she slept on the passenger's seat.
After you park the car, you try to wake Marisa up to no avail.
'Looks like Kim and Claire really wore her out.' You smile fondly then get out of the car. You go to the other side and princess carry Marisa. After skillfully locking the car, you carefully walk to Marisa's apartment. 'Thank god this building has an elevator. I don't think it's possible to walk all the way to the goddamn 8th floor.' You sigh in relief as you step out of the elevator and unlock Marisa's apartment. You gently set her down on her sofa and groan softly at your arms. 'Need to do more weight training.' You lock the door and take off your jacket. You take off Marisa's coat and her sandals. You get yourself a glass of water and down it one go before picking up Marisa again and transferring her to her bed.
"Goodnight, love." You say before you kiss her forehead and lay down beside her. You pull her closer and you feel her tighten your hold.
-
You wake up when your phone rings in the morning. You groan as you take it from the nightstand and you squint to see who it was.
"June?" You sigh as you answer it. "What do you-"
"When are you coming back?" You sigh as you feel Marisa wake up besides you.
"In five days. What's the problem?"
"Mia is driving me insane." You groan at her and Marisa looks at you as she kisses your arm.
"Good morning." She mouths at you and you smile at her, mouthing the words back.
"You two should just fuck it out of your systems, for god's sake."
"Woman, that's what we do everyday. Why do you think-"
"Bah! Then just ask her for help. And tmi, by the way."
"But she's going to hold this over me-"
"June. You volunteered. Just get help, for fuck's sake. Ask Joan!"
"Oh right. Good idea. See you in five days!" June hangs up on you and you groan as you toss your phone on the bed. You hear Marisa taking a shower and hum. You get some of her clothes and decide to join her inside.
-
You and Marisa were both having a lazy day. You were just lounging around her apartment when you get a call. You answer it immediately.
"Heyo." You greet without looking at the name.
"Oh. It really is your number." You smile brightly at Marisa and put your phone on speaker.
"Jada! Took you long enough. How's Canada treating my best friend??"
"I think Joan can kill you for that statement." You shrug at Marisa and you hear Jada chuckle.
"Canada is amazing. By the way, when I come to the US. You two better host me. I need the tea."
"Of course. And you will have it." You hear Diego in the background and grin. "Now go back to spending time with your boyfriend."
"Bye!" Jada hangs up and you hum as you lock your phone.
"She sounds happy." You nod in agreement.
-
"Babe, do you-" Marisa was about to ask when she sees the ring box in your drawer. It was a simple red box. She opens it for a second and gasps as she sees the engagement ring. You were too busy on your laptop to notice that she was taking so long in your bedroom. Where you kept the ring. Marisa puts it back and shakily gets out of your bedroom.
"Marisa? You okay?" You ask and she flinches at you.
"Y-yeah. Just um. I think I saw a cockroach in your bedroo-"
"WHAT!?" You jump up and close your laptop. "Emergency. I'm calling Leon and his crew, we need to evacuate to your place for the night." Marisa chuckles at you. You really hated the insect. At least she was safe tonight.
-
The proposal came after building Marisa's Yoga Studio.
It took five months for that to finish and open. Building it became a main point of stress for both you and her, it even lead to so many fights that ended in make up sex. Some of those were petty as hell and the most serious one ended when you finally packed your shit and just moved in with her. Your own apartment was sold and all of your collectibles were temporarily inside a storage as the house that you made Lei design is getting built.
You spent the last month trying to get this proposal to be good.
Which is why you are bummed.
Why did it rain. OUT OF ALL THE THINGS THAT COULD HAPPEN. The ring in your pocket is burning through your thoughts as you and Marisa take shelter among the shade of a tree.
"Fucking- why now?" You mumble to yourself and Marisa looks at you. She has never seen you so upset because of rain. You actually loved it when it rains. You said before that it made you automatically cancel plans and just stay inside. Rain means cuddling and just relaxing with Marisa.
"You okay, babe?" Marisa asks and you groan.
"No- I-" You sigh then turn to her, "I really needed this day to be good you know? I've been putting off something that I wanted to do since we got home all those months ago. But it just-" You groan as you lean fully on the tree, "It feels like the world is against me at this point."
"What? Why?" You sigh then get the box from your pocket, you place it slowly on her hand. She gapes as she actually forgot about this. With the moving in, the building and designing of both the studio and the house, with you being insatiable for her all the time and yes, even when you were both fighting. It just slipped her mind that she this exact same box in your drawer.
"I wanted to have the perfect proposal. I wanted to tell you everything. On why we work, why I just know you're the one I want for the rest of my life. Why I chose you on that goddamn island, why I'll keep choosing you as we go about our lives. But the world hates me!" You shout the last part to the sky and promptly gave it a middle finger. You can be childish if you wanted to. You sigh.
"What are you going to ask?" You look at Marisa and see that she was crying. You panic at the sight of her tears.
"Marisa??? Are you okay? Why are you crying??" You ask her all this questions and she punches your chest lightly. You get even more confused as she looks at you and shakes you.
"Wrong ones. ASK ME." You finally get it and take a deep breath. You take the box from her and open it. She tightens her grip on your shirt.
"Marisa. My love of my life. Will you please do me the honor of marrying me?" She nods and everything that you felt burdening you lift up. Why did you even stress yourself out? Why did you plan this outing in the first place? You put your backpack down and lift her up. You go into the rain with no care and cheer to the sky. "YOU SAID YES! YES!" You laugh as you put her down then kiss her deeply. "Gods." You look at her brown eyes and grin. "I can't wait to call you my wife." She blushes at that and pulls you down for another kiss.
"I can't wait too."

Hello! I saw you're doing SF6 headcanons, so I was curious if you could do some general relationship headcanons for Luke and Marisa with their significant other? Please and thank you!
Tumblr media
-Luke is bit cocky. So, he will be showing off a lot. It could be something small, him doing a back-flip, showing a cool combo in a game. Or, something big like trying to do a cool trick, which results in him pulling a muscle. (He will appreciate, if you help him out.)
-Game dates! You two will do weekends, just playing games, stocked up with favorite drinks and snacks. Will he get competitive? Yes, absolutely. If, you match his energy and talent in gaming, be prepared for multitude of rematches.
-Matching T-shirts! He will buy shirts he likes for both of you. It could be one of those cheesy ones like, "Return to Luke, if lost." "I'm Luke." Sort of shirts. Or, just a similar color theme, he just likes to match with you.
-Would love it, if you helped around the gym. Doesn't have to be anything physical, could be logistics, making sure equipment is on par. Anything really will make his heart flutter, seeing you assist him in the gym.
-Just trying new things together. It just feels special to him, he would love to travel more with you. But, unfortunately it is expensive and he has to look after the gym. So, he does the next best thing, buying new sodas and tastes from stores. It just adds something to him, when both of you try the new sodas and such together.
Tumblr media
-Despite Marisa's large and intimidating stature, she is extremely loving woman. She will be your personal hypeman. She wants to see you succeed in anything you attempt at. You fail at it? She will understand you can't succeed everytime. But, she will push you to try again, until you succeed.
-She is a patient woman as someone working with jewelry and iron works should be. So, if you two are arguing about something, she will be the most patient out of you two.
-Practice fights! She will want to fight with you, let it be a practice ones. She wants to see you get better at fighting, so she can go little harder each time on you.
-Gifts, plenty of gifts. She will give you her handmade jewelry for you. At some point, all of your accessories will be made by her. Earrings, bracelets, necklaces, she will make all of them for you. She will make all of the gifts for you, with patience and accuracy of a saint.
-Museum visits are a must, or anything artistic. She may prefer metalwork and jewelry, but she also enjoys seeing paintings and such. She would adore it, if you would come with her to the museums and art festivals, even if they aren't your thing.

Marisa Coulter fell in love with Asriel Belaqua for his words. He’d open his mouth and it was like floodgates had broken, every sentence spit out in haste so he could speak the next, each word dripping with knowledge. She fell in love with seeing his mind work on paper, the notes scratched out in haste as if time was slipping through his fingers. The flood of his understanding would drown the world and even her at times. It was a flood she’d willingly been overtaken by.
But you… she fell in love with you for your silence.
Your brother could ramble out an entire lecture in minutes, but you would sit, tracing a finger around the rim of your glass. In one movement you could say a thousand words. Words were not frivolous to you, not something scribbled down, but something aged. Marisa could see the world examined and pulled apart behind your eyes. When you spoke, the manifestations of your mind ran down her spine like a cool stream.
When her and Asriel began their affair, she’d worried not for the Magisterium or her husband to catch them, but for you to.
Asriel had run a hand over her face, coming to hold her by the shoulders as he sought out her eyes. He’d forced her eyes up to look at him on a level of equal standing. His mouth moved, the words so fast that she could barely catch them all, “I swear to you, Marisa, they’ll never know. If your husband can miss it all… they know nothing, they won’t.”
One glance of your eyes between them undid all of his words.
You knew. Of course you did. And when you looked in her eyes, she could see the accusations behind them. You had turned away from her that day and left on a mission for the Magisterium.
But when Lyra was born, you were there, and Asriel wasn’t.
She clutched your hand and cried, holding it to her chest. Lyra wailed in the next room. You sat at Marisa’s side, combing a hand through the sweat soaked hair along her forehead. You had been the last one she expected. Asriel was only a city away but you… distance hadn’t meant a thing when she needed you.
And your voice soothed over her body as you pressed your lips to her forehead and whispered, “Well done, darling.”
Marisa smiled, “You’re the only one who gets to call me that, you know.”
And you did know. You’ve always known. Asriel loved her and she loved him, but his love wasn’t the kind laced with sweet names. A man of a million words and none of them for her.
You pressed another kiss to her forehead then. Asriel appeared moments later to whisk Lyra away to Oxford and Marisa said nothing for once, squeezing your hand so hard you worried it’d break. Asriel never returned.
Life moved on and she built herself back up slowly. And you were there for it all—good and bad—to be her eyes and ears, whispering your findings in her ear, but her favorite was never the secrets you relayed—it was the honeyed darlings, always delivered with intention. With love. Of your few words, that one was reserved only for Marisa Coulter.

"Would it be okay if we werent just friends?"
You were the oh-so great apprentice of the kleptomanic witch, Marisa-!
Yet you felth a warm feeling for her and only her. She was a star that took your hand when you were in need, she was an amazing person to you.
But that feeling of warmth whenever she smiles at you and starts rambling about whatever she found.. just wont go away!
What could this even mean..
------------------------------------
"Miss Kirisame?"
You call out to her, an expression of anticipation written on your face.
"You dont need to adress me so formaly [name]! Were a great duo or just in means of friends!"
The words "friends" sent a shard right through your heart, the feeling makes it so unbearable to speak your next words. Yet you spoke up, you told every honest feeling you had.
"Mis- I mean, Marisa... Do yknow about the warm feeling you get when you're with someone?"
You question, an unbearing cold in your heart thinking of how obvious that could've been
She looks away a blank expression written on her face. Her reply wasnt what you thought of- maybe you were obvious.
"Yknow [name] on that topic, I actually get that same-stupid feeling just... just for- you!"
Releasing whatever was locked away in both of your hearts, you look down nervously.
"But Marisa... Im just a man and- you're so much more-! You could have whoever you want, but why me?"
Not letting you ramble on any longer she pulls you into a hug, a small giggle resonates from the magician, her once oh-so smug smile shining on her face.
"What makes you think you're inferior to me? Whatever bad you might think of yourself, remember id still love you even if you did have some unperfect quality."
She gives you a bright smile, it felt like a shining star was smiling at you, and only you. But you feel like you dont deserve a person such as her, yet she brings up so many sweet words once you start feeling down.
She truly was an angel, yet you wonder why they sent her down from heaven just for you.

"Of course you deserve me! Just like how much I deserve you.!"

Yandere Short Stories:
Pinky Promise
Yandere Lesbian Knight x Afab! Childhood Friend Reader x Yandere Cross Dressing Noble (Genderfluid)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Today we have a new orphan joining us.” The director pushed a young girl with (hair length and color) hair forward, the young girl shyly glanced at the other orphans. She was awfully small compared to the other kids and dainty like a doll. “This is (your first name). Play nicely.”
(Your name) shyly glanced around at the other kids, a young girl with bright red hair stuck out to her the most. The large girl played with a stick in the corner of the room by herself. (Your name) slowly approached the girl.
“H-hello.” (Your name) bowed her head when the red head snapped her head to look at her. The young girl looked much like a wounded animal than a nine year old, which only made (your name) even more nervous. “I-I’m (your first name), what’s your name?”
The crimson haired girl simply sat still, not muttering a single word while her cinnamon colored eyes glanced (your name) up and down. A scoff then left her lips.
“Leave me alone.” (Your name) nearly cried when the red head glared at her. “I don’t need friends.”
Another girl toddled over to (your name) and took her hand. “That’s Marisa. She’s mean. But you can come play with us! I’m Jezebel!”
(Your name) glanced back at Marisa who sat hunched over at her spot in the corner. She looked so lonely…
.
.
.
“You shouldn’t hang out with Marisa, (your name).” Jezebel whispered to the (hair color) girl. “She’s bad luck.”
For the last few weeks, (your name) tried to get closer to the red haired girl. But to no avail. She was met with hostility and cruel insults. Marisa was just like a wounded animal… one that had been cornered and beaten for so long that it didn’t know how to handle affection.
“Bad luck?” (Your name) asked softly, she turned to glance at the messy crimson haired girl. Her body hunched over in the corner as she hugged herself close.
“She has blood red hair. She has impure blood.”
“Impure blood?” (Your name) tilted her head to the side and furrowed her brow in confusion. What on earth did that mean?
“Yes… it means she has monster blood.” Jezebel hissed, her body trembled when Marisa turned to glance their way. “She’ll grow up and become a monster.”
(Your name) frowned and glanced over at Marisa. Her heart clenched at how miserable she looked. How long had she been alone?
“I don’t think she’s a monster.” (Your name) softly whispered before she stood up. The young girl placed a finger on her chin. “Thanks for your concern, Jezebel but I think I’ll take my chances. If she tears me apart then you’re right. But if not, you’ll have to apologize.”
(Your name) even more determined to befriend the crimson haired girl… but how?
.
.
Marisa furrowed her brow when (your name) offered to share her food with her. This was new. She was suspicious of the new orphan. (Your name) was stupidly trusting of people and naive. Marisa hated it. Marisa hated how the other girl kept trying to get close to her… did (your name) know she was a monster?
“I thought I told you to leave me alone.” Marisa huffed, the red head crossed her arms over her chest. Her messy red waves covered her cinnamon eyes a bit from the movement. “You probably have your germs all over that bread anyways.”
(Your name) frowned but placed the half loaf beside Marisa’s plate. Her expression hopeful.
“You just always sit alone…” (your name)’s voice was barely above a whisper, her body shook a bit under Marisa’s intense gaze. “I want to sit with you.”
Marisa rolled her eyes, the red head snatched the stale bread and took a bite. Her eyes cautiously glance over the smaller girl. (Your name) couldn’t hurt her even if she tried. She was so small, her wrist would probably snap if she tried to hit Marisa.
(Your name) was like a lost, little lamb that approached a wolf. Didn’t she know how dangerous the world was? How people could harm her or have ulterior motives? How could someone be so naive?
“Whatever.” Marisa stiffened when (your name) scooted next to her, her arms wrapped around Marisa in a hug. “Hey?! What are you doing, weirdo?!”
“Well, I’m hugging my friend.” (Your name) giggled with a bright smile. Marisa felt her heart stop for a minute, an unfamiliar feeling washing over her. Was this magic?
“You’re weird.” Marisa huffed, a small blush on her face. Maybe she’d let (your name) stick around… maybe.
.
.
.
The two girls were inseparable. Wherever Marisa was, (your name) was. At first it irritated the crimson haired girl. Why on earth did (your name) have to be so persistent about being by her side? Yet there was a part of her that adored it.
Marisa loved that (your name) would cry when she wasn’t there. That (your name) depended on her company. It made Marisa feel wanted for once…
And it’s why Marisa interfered whenever someone was interested in adopting (your name). She didn’t want to lose her only friend… her family.
Marisa would throw bugs from the trees on potential adopters and play nasty pranks on them. She’d do anything to keep (your name) by her side.
“Mari?” (Your name) mumbled from their shared bed, her little body snuggled against the red haired girl’s body. “Are you having nightmares?”
Marisa felt herself melt under (your name)’s concerned expression. The red haired girl curled into (your name)’s body, her arms wrapped around the smaller girls in a comforting manner. Yes… this felt right, this was right.
“I was just thinking was all.” Marisa whispered, her hands moved to throw the blanket over (your name) and her head to hide their secret pact. “Can you promise me something?”
(Your name)  eagerly nodded her head. Her eyes focused on Marisa’s. “Yes, of course.”
“Stay with me forever.” Marisa whispered from under the white sheet. Her cinnamon eyes full of seriousness. “Pink promise me.”
(Your name) nodded her head and took Marisa’s pinky in hers. “Pinky promise.”
The two girls laid under the sheets in a mess of limbs. It wasn’t just a promise to Marisa… it was a swear.
.
.
.
One day, an elderly gentleman came to the orphanage. One that took great interest in (your name). To the point even Marisa’s tactics to get him to change his mind wouldn’t work. She had overheard the man talk about (your name)‘s pure mana. How lucky was her friend to be gifted in magic while she had no skills…
The elderly man frowned at how distraught the red haired girl was when she realized her friend was going to be adopted. The elder held out a hand to the sniffling girl.
“Why don’t you come with us?” He asked in a soft voice. “You just want to be with your friend, don’t you?”
Marisa stared at the old man with wide eyes. His salt colored facial hair nearly concealed his whole face but he had kind eyes… eyes that were similar to (your name)‘s.
        “Y-you’d adopt me too?”
“Well of course. I’d hate to separate someone who has worked so hard to be beside their friend.” The old man smiled at Marisa. “My name is Orick. I’m a herbalist.”
“My name is Marisa Guerra… and I’m (your name)‘s best friend.”
Orik took the red head girl’s hand and lead her over to (your name) who smiled brightly at Marisa. It seemed the two of them would continue to be together.
The two girls ran towards each other and hugged. Orik smiled at the two. This time he’d ensure (your name)‘s safety… he wouldn’t fail her family twice.
And Marisa would be the perfect fit for her protector.
.
.
.
(Your name) and Marisa giggled as they sat side by side in a lavender field. The violet flowers tangled between their small hands while they wove flower crowns for one another.
“Mari, you suck at this.” The smaller girl giggled at her friend’s expense. The red haired girl flushed a bright pink in the face from how distorted her crown was.
“I’m doing my best! Not my fault my hands aren’t as dainty as yours.” Marissa grumbled, the red head snuck glances here and there towards the smaller girl. “You’re just more graceful than me, (your name).”
Marisa memorized the details on (your name)’s face, she always found herself staring at her best friend. Was it strange that her heart beat so wildly in her chest whenever they were together? Marisa didn’t quite understand the feelings that bloomed in her for the sweet (hair color) girl
“Well I made you one, see?” (Your name) gently placed the lavender flower crown on Marisa’s head. (Your name) gave her best friend a bright smile. “You look so pretty in purple.”
Marisa blushed, the young red head brushed a crimson wave out of her face. She swore her heart would explode from the simple compliment.
“Not nearly as pretty as you. I don’t think there’s anyone as pretty as you.”
Even as a child, Marisa meant exactly what she said. (Your name) was the prettiest girl Marisa had ever seen and the only one she had eyes for.
“You’re so silly, Mari. You act like I’m some kind of princess!” (Your name) squealed when Marisa grabbed her hands and began to press kisses on them. “Mari!”
“To me, you are the most beautiful princess.” Marisa smiled as she began to press more kisses to (your name)’s hands. “And I’m your loyal knight.”
        “But we’re Orik’s apprentices.”
The two girls giggled together, their hands linked while they admired the sunset together.
.
.
.
“Of course you little peasants always stick together.” A young noble girl stuck her nose up at (your name) and Marisa while the duo played together in the streets from the window in her fancy blue carriage. The golden family crest of the Phoenix showed off which family she belonged to, Marquis Golding.
The marchioness’s long golden curls were pulled back behind her head in a half braid while the rest spilled out over her shoulders. “Why don’t you two play elsewhere?”
“Oh hello, Marchioness Golding.” (Your name) greeted the blonde with a smile, which threw the blonde off. The blonde glanced away, a pinkish tint to her ears. “We were close to the street, weren’t we? Thanks for looking out-“
“(Your name), she’s making fun of us.” Marisa softly pointed out, the redhead glared at the haughty blonde. She didn’t understand why the blonde insisted on bothering with them. “We’ll go elsewhere, Marchioness Golding.”
Marissa rose up to her feet and took (your name)‘s hands in hers. The marchioness turned red in the face from the sight. It wasn’t fair… it wasn’t fair that they were able to live freely while she was trapped to live the life of a noble.
Cressida could only watch as the two left. Her heart clenched when (your name) waved goodbye to her before Marissa tugged her away.
Was it wrong for Cressida to want (your name)? The girl was oddly sophisticated for a mere peasant… it made Cressida curious.
Was (your name) hiding something just like her?
Not to mention how (your name)’s features were eerily similar to a portrait she’s seen once… but where had Cressida last seen it?
.
.
.
Orik smiled at (your name) who fretted ow r an injured bird. Tears in her eyes, her heart ached for the bird that was missing a part of its wing.
“Now, (your name). With your affinity for healing magic, you can heal things.” Orik softly told the young girl. His wrinkled hands guided hers over the bird. “But you cannot heal what is no longer there.”
         “What do you mean, master?”
“Wounds can be closed but they may leave scars.” Orik softly told her, the old wizard assisted her in healing the injured bird. “It’s flight feathers will have to grow back once it molts but you were able to reattach the bones. You have limits, my dear.”
(Your name) smiled at Orik’s teachings. The elder always took time to teach her about healing magic and herbalism.
“I sense you’ll become a great healer one day.”
       “You think so?”
      “I know so.”
.
.
.
“Mari, you can’t keep stealing.” (Your name) chided her friend, the young adult scoffed in response.
The years have turned the two of them into adults and Marisa has been on a rebellious streak as of late. The red haired woman now towered over her friend and (your name) was sure Marisa was almost seven feet tall.
“We have to survive too. Orik doesn’t have much money despite once being the grand wizard.” Marisa grumbled as she crossed her muscular arms over her chest. “The royals don’t care about orphans like us. We could starve for all they care.”
“But what if they catch you? You could get hurt…”
“I can’t  keep up with your skills in magic. You’re going to be a great healer one day and I’m just me… Orik’s ways don’t suit me.” Marisa sighed, the large teen bent down to sit beside (your name) on the grassy hill. “I’m not smart like you…”
“But I’m sure you could become a knight. Or maybe even a monster hunter. You’re super strong!” (Your name) smiled at her friend, which made Marisa sigh. The redhead shoved the loaf of bread into (your name)’s hand.
“Eat your bread. At least make my efforts worth it. I doubt we’ll eat anything this good until we’re done learning from Orik.” Marisa huffed. She draped her arm over (your name)‘s shoulder to pull her closer.
The two women admired the city lights from below. (Your name)’s eyes sparkle in wonder from how magic had made the lights below shine so brightly.
        “It’s such a beautiful sight, isn’t it?”
Cinnamon colored eyes were directed at (your name), a softness in them that was only reserved for the young woman in front of her. “Yes it is…”
Marisa rested her head on (your name)‘s, her feelings once more bubbled to the surface like boiling soup. Marisa knew exactly what she felt for the other girl… it was just wondering if (your name) returned even a fraction of what she felt. If they had a chance to be something more than friends…
Yet it wasn’t something Marisa wanted to chance. She’d rather die than lose her best friend, no… her reason to live.
In this sick world, her only solace was (your name) and Marisa would rather chop her own foot off with a dull butter knife than let anything happen to the small girl.
     “(Your name)?”
      “Yes?”
“I’d kill for you.” (Your name) giggled at her friend’s words, the smaller girl not taking what the other woman said seriously. Kill for her? How absurd.
“Well, I hope you never have to. I’d hate for you to end up in prison or even on death row.”
Marisa pressed herself further into (your name), a sad smile on her face. She’d do anything for (your name). Anything.
.
.
.
“(Your name)?” (Your name) froze when a certain marchioness made her way towards her. Her pale pink skirts held in her hands as she barged into (your name)‘s study.
Ever since they became teenagers, Cressida Golding bothered her more and more. But rather than her weak attempts at bullying in childhood, Cressida made an attempt to befriend (your name). The golden haired girls cheeks flushed whenever she was around the (hair color) girl and her palms would be sweaty.
Yet Cressida made no move to befriend Marisa, only (your name).
“Would you like to go to a salon with me? I could buy you a dress…” Cressida fiddled with her fingers, her cerulean eyes anxiously glanced at (your name). “Or you could probably fit into some of my old ones… I’ve been growing a lot as of late.”
“That’s okay, marchioness Golding. Thank you-“
“It’s just Cressida!” Cressida rasped out, her body trembled in anxiousness. “And I insist. Please?”
“But I’m just a peasant…” (your name) softly whispered, but Cressida waved her off.
“No, you’re not! You’re nothing like that red head or the others!” Cressida put her hands over her mouth at her outburst. She hadn’t meant to be so loud and excitable. “I actually found out something rather interesting about you.”
“What do you mean, Cressida?” Cressida took (your name)’s hands in her clammy ones. A big smile on her face.
“I’ll tell you my findings if you come to the salon I’m hosting!”
(Your name) thought about it for a moment before she sighed. She knew Cressida wouldn’t accept no as an answer. The golden haired girl was quite spoiled after all…
“Okay… I’ll come.” Cressida squealed and pulled (your name) in for a hug. Her cerulean eyes lit up like stars.
“I swear you won’t be disappointed, darling!” The blonde then took off with a skip in her step.
(Your name) sighed and glanced at her books that laid strewn out all over her desk. Now where did she leave off?
.
.
.
A scream escaped Marisa’s mouth when a guard slammed their foot into her ribcage in a dark alleyway. Her plunders strewn all over the alleyway’s floor. Marisa had simply wanted to gift (your name) something nice, it wasn’t even something super expensive. It was just a rose quartz tied together with twine.
A twisted smirk crawled on the guard’s face at her anguished expression.
“Well look who I finally caught! The street rat that my mistress hates.” His hand tangled in Marisa’s short red hair and yanked her head up. “You’re not so tough now, are ya?”
Marisa vehemently glared at the guard before she launched a wad of spit on his dirty face. The guard threw her to the ground in anger his shirt ripped from the grip she had on him, his hand wiped the spit off his face. The fabric crest of the family he served was clutched tightly in her fist.
“You’ll pay for that.” Marisa’s eyes widened when the guard drew his sword, the metal menacingly glinted under the streetlights.
A scream rung throughout the alleyway and then silence.
.
.
.
(Your name) frantically ran down the streets. Her head turned every which way in hopes of finding Marisa. Marisa wasn’t home on time and she was never late…
(Your name) clutched her cloak tightly to her body in an attempt to comfort herself. She needed to find her friend…
“Marissa?” (Your name) called out to no avail. And that’s when she saw it… a crumbled body of a certain red head and a pool of blood.
A scream that would make anyone weep at the strangled sound escaped (your name)’s chest as she launched herself beside her friend. Her small hands rolled over Marisa’s body to see where the wound was… only for horror to crawl down (your name)’s spine.
The entire left side of Marisa’s face was completely mutilated with cute. The blood seemed never ending while the skin of her left cheek no longer concealed her teeth. And her tongue was cut up as well.
“W-who did this to you?” (Your name) wept as she did her best to use her magic to heal her friend. “Who hurt you?”
Her tears felt never ending as she did her best to heal what she could. This half of her friend’s face would more likely be permanently disfigured from this ordeal no matter how good of a healer (your name) was. There just wasn’t  enough left of her face to completely heal it.
“Mari… oh Mari.” (Your name) sobbed as she held Mari’s body close to her. Marisa was so cold and barely breathing… but she was alive. Thank god… “I’m so sorry, Mari.”
(Your name) held Marisa close to her, a certain family crest caught (your name)’s eye. The golden Phoenix mocked her.
       “Marquis Golding…”
.
.
.
Cressida held her sore cheek in shock when (your name) struck her. The smaller woman’s face red with rage, a crumbled family crest was balled up in her fist.
“You witch!” (Your name) hissed, the crest suddenly thrown at Cressida who sat dumbstruck on the floor. “How dare you have one of your guards attack Marisa… how dare you!”
“(Y-your name)? What do you mean?” Cressida cried, her eyes filled with tears. Not out of guilt, but out of fear. Fear of (your name) leaving her behind. “I don’t know what you’re talking about-“
“Don’t pretend you don’t! Your guard hurt Marisa and now… she’ll never be able to live a normal life!” (Your name) felt a sob rack through her body, her hands tightly clutched her chest. “How could you-“
Creature rose up from the floor and ran towards (your name) until she fell to her knees in front of the young woman. Her hands tightly clutched (your name)’s.
“I didn’t order him to… I wouldn’t do that.” Cressida began to sob. “I know you care about her… I wouldn’t do that.”
(Your name) froze when Cressida began to bawl. Fat tears rolled down her pale cheeks as she tightly clutched the skirt of (your name)’s linen dress like a lifeline.
“Please don’t abandon me! I swear I didn’t order it! I swear! I swear!” Cressida buried her face in (your name)’s skirt, her tears and snot wet the fabric. “I wouldn’t hurt you!”
“It’s okay, Cressida. I’m sorry for letting my anger get the best of me.” (Your name) held Cressida’s face in her palms. Guilt washed over her at the welt on Cressida’s face. “I shouldn’t have hurt you-“
“Don’t apologize! I’m sorry! I’m sorry I didn’t know! I’m sorry!” Cressida nuzzled her face in (your name)’s soft palms with a sigh. “You’re allowed to be upset! But I’ll take care of it all! Just for you!”
(Your name) furrowed her brow at the almost euphoric look in Cressida’s teary cerulean eyes. There was something incredibly off about the golden haired woman… but who was she to judge?
“Okay, Cressida… I believe you.” (Your name) was nearly launched back when Cressida lunged forward to hug her,
“Thank you! Thank you! I promise I’ll fix everything. Just leave it all to me.” Cressida buried her face in the crook of (your name)’s neck.
If only (your name) could see the demented smile on Cressida’s face then she’d know of the danger she was in…
.
.
.
The portly guard was thrown into a dungeon. His eyes wide in horror when he saw the young marchioness in the middle of the cell. The other guards quickly locked the door and left the guard alone with the young woman.
“M-my lady?! Have I offended you in some way?” The guard felt his blood run cold when a deep chuckle escaped Cressida’s lips.
“You know it’s my lord in private.” The guard bowed his head when he heard bones begin to snap. The guard shivered in pure fear when he felt an icy glare on him. Oh god… he hadn’t mean to upset him.
“I’m sorry my lord-“ The guard’s head was suddenly pulled up by the thin strands of his hair. A hauntingly beautiful man now stood before him in place of the marchioness. His cerulean blue eyes cold and unforgiving like the sea.
“Do you know what you’ve almost cost me?” The young man angrily hissed.
“N-no, my lord-“ the guard’s face was suddenly slammed into the stone floor. A loud, audible crunch rung throughout the empty dungeon.
“The throne! I need (your name) for the throne!” The guard’s head was slammed over and over into the ground as the young man had a tantrum. “My beautiful, perfect darling is the lost Duchess of (last name)! If I marry her, an illegitimate child like me could become the crown prince! And you almost screwed it all up because you sliced up her friend’s face!”
The guard’s face was practically hamburger meet from how mashed it was. A few of the his teeth now missing as he choked on his blood. The golden haired man sighed before dropping the guard to the ground.
“I just got so lucky my darling is so wonderful and understanding… she even apologized to me after she struck me.” The delusional man suddenly held his body to imitate a hug. “I am so lucky to have stumbled upon her… don’t you think we’ll be beautiful together?”
The guard could only gurgle and gasp, the portly man struggled to breathe. The blonde sighed in frustration. “An imbecile like you could never understand our love… but she said she’d let me handle it! So we’re not quite done yet, mister guard.”
The guard was then dragged to be chained to the floor. The young man smiled down at the disoriented guard, his haunting beauty similar to an angel of death.
The man then snapped his fingers to alert his butler to come over with a cage full of rats. The top of the cage held a metal bowl at the top and a removable tray at the bottom,
“Prince Chrysanthos. I really do think you’ve outdone yourself.” The butler sighed before he placed the metal cage atop of the guard’s stomach and pulled out the tray so that the rats were now had no metal bottom. Yet they couldn’t escape.
“You flatter me, Gerald. I simply wish to be a strict ruler who would do anything for his beloved. My enemies must know not to mess with me or her.” Chrysanthos smiled at Gerald who nodded. The salt and pepper haired man walked over to a small bowl filled with hot coals.
“You’re doing a fantastic job, sir.” The butler handed Chrysanthos the bucket. “Would you like to do the honors?”
“Of course.” Chrysanthos then dumped the hot coals into the bowl atop of the cage. “This is what you get for upsetting my love. Your death will be slow and agonizing as the rats claw through your body to escape the heat.”
The guard began to loudly scream when he felt the rats scratch and bite at his skin.
Gerald glanced over at the insane blonde before him. Not a doubt in his mind that Crysanthos was a demon despite his angelic appearance.
“Do you wish to watch, sir? Or do you want to buy a dress for you darling?”
The butler remaind stoic when Chrysantho’s mood did a complete 180 degree turn. A bright smile on his angelic features.
“I would love to. Do you think she’d look beautiful in gold? Or should I perhaps dress her in lighter colors until the engagement?” Chrysanthos sighed dreamily. “My beautiful darling would look good in anything… I can’t wait to see her at my salon.”
The butler nodded as the two men left the guard behind to suffer his ill fate.
Chrysanthos babbled the whole way out. Gerald just didn’t understand what it was about that girl that drove the prince so mad.
.
.
.
(Your name) laid beside Marisa. Her arms wrapped around her friend as Orik frowned at her.
“She should wake up soon, my dear. You’ve been up for three days now… you can’t let yourself fall apart too.” Orik expressed his worry for his adopted daughter.
“I just want to be here when she wakes up.” (Your name) whispered softly, her hands stroked Marisa’s scarred face. “I want her to know I’m here… that I’ll always be here.”
Orik sighed but he understood her pain. “I won’t stop you but why don’t you just lay beside her?”
Orik snapped his fingers, a blanket now magically placed around her shoulders. The old man wrapped the blanket snuggly around (your name)’s body.
The young woman rested her body beside Marisa’s. The two women curled into one another.
As the young woman finally fell into the clutches of sleep, she failed to notice Marisa was now awake. Her cinnamon eyes softened at the eye bags and tear stained face of her friend.
Marisa struggled to speak, her throat felt so dry… Marisa went to sit up, her cinnamon colored eyes wide in horror at her reflection. Her whole body trembled at the hideous scars on her face. Oh god… it wasn’t a nightmare.
Marisa’s fingers traced over the ugly lines of scars on the left side of her face. Tears fell from her eyes as reality washed over her. She was ugly now…
“She did her best to heal what was left of your face.” Orik softly told Marisa from the door way. “I think she did an amazing job from what she said was left of you.”
Marisa glanced down at (your name) who laid curled up beside her. Her small hands tightly clutched Marisa’s shirt.
“Marisa. I have been quite lenient toward your rebellious behavior but I think it’s time you start to do something with you life.” Orik told the young woman, the elderly man made his way over. “I have a friend in the north who could train you in the way of the sword.”
“But I… I can’t leave (your name) behind. Especially with that stupid marchioness running about.”
“Who said I wouldn’t send the both of you?” Orik softly asked. “I may be old, but I’m willing to relocate to get away from that noble… they terrify me.”
Marisa paused, the muscular teen cast a glance at the sleeping (your name). A sunkissed finger hesitantly brushed a stray strand of hair out of (your name)’s face.
“If she wants to… we’ll move.”
“Excellent. Let me know what she says when she wakes up.” Orik smiled at the two young women. “We can leave in a week’s time at the earliest.”
Marisa glanced down at (your name) who clutched onto her body like a koala bear. A soft smile graced her lips as she leaned down to press a kiss on (your name)’s forehead.
“Thank you… I owe you my life once again.” Marisa pressed her forehead against (your name)’s while her arms snaked around (your name)’s body. “You’re always saving me when I’m supposed to be protecting you… I swear I’ll become stronger and I’ll be able to provide us a better life.”
Marisa laid beside (your name) until she succumbed to sleep as well. Their limbs tangled and their hearts full from one another’s company.
.
.
.
Orik did his best to keep a stoic expression when marchioness Golding visited their home bright and early. A large, neatly wrapped gift sat in her butler’s arms as the two nodded at Orik.
“Is (your name) home?” Cressida asked, a giddiness in her voice. “I brought her dress for the salon today.”
Orik frowned but relented on letting Cressida inside. He didn’t want to make an enemy of the golden terror, she was well known for her volatile temper.
“(Your name)?!” Cressida sing songed the small teen’s name in hopes she’d come running over to her. “I’m here to take you to the salon! I have your dress-“
Cressida froze when she saw (your name) fast asleep in her bed. The small girl curled up under her various blankets, her chest softly rose with each breath. She looked like a fairy…
Cressida slowly approached the bed until she sat on the end of it. She outstretched her pale hand to touch (your name)‘s cheek but a large hand stopped her.
Cressida nearly screamed at the sight of Marisa’s disfigured face. The scars made her even more fearsome to gaze at.
“What on earth are you doing?!” Marissa hissed like a snake, her cinnamon eyes narrowed at the golden haired noblewoman. An overwhelming desire to protect the unconscious (your name) consumed the redhead.
“I was just going to wake her was all.” Cressida snatched her wrist back from Marisa’s brutish grip. “You don’t have to be such a brute all the time.”
Marisa scoffed and crossed her muscular arms over her chest. She stuck her nose up at Cressida, Cressida’s face twisted in disgust at the prominent dorsal hump on Marisa’s large nose. Why did Marisa look more masculine when Cressida was Chrysanthos?
“Maybe you shouldn’t be such a creep.”
(Your name) stirred awake, the young woman glanced between her two friends who seemed to be about to argue.
“Good morning-“ (your name) almost screamed when Cressida launched at her to try to hug her but Marisa pushed the blonde over so the blonde onto the end of the bed instead.   The blonde landed with a loud thud.
“What was that for?! You could have ruined my dress-“ Cressida quickly calmed herself. She didn’t want to scare her darling away… “I’m here to take you away to the salon, (your name)!”
“Oh… that is today isn’t it?” (Your name) whispered. She had forgotten all about it since she’s been so preoccupied worrying about Marisa. Did that make her an awful friend? “I’m sorry for not being ready, Cressida.”
“No, it’s alright! I bought you a dress.” Cressida leapt up from the bed and scurried over the Gerald. The blonde practically snatched the box from his hands and handed it to (your name). “Here! Open it!”
(Your name) hesitantly opened the box to reveal a beautiful blush colored dress. Her hands grasp the straps to admire it in awe.
“Oh wow… it’s beautiful, Cressida.” (Your name) smiled at her friend who blushed a bright pink.
“Let’s put it on and if we leave now, my maids can do your hair and makeup.” Cressida beamed, much to Marisa’s dismay. (Your name) couldn’t possibly have agreed to hang out with this haunted porcelain doll wannabe.
(Your name) smiled and rose up from the bed with the dress in her arms. The young woman turned to her two friends.
        “I’ll need help with this…”
The two women glanced at each other before they rushed over to help (your name). The young woman chuckled at how eager her friends were to help.
.
.
.
(Your name) twirled around in the blush colored dress while Cressida and Marisa admired her. How could someone be so beautiful?
“You look beautiful…” Cressida muttered softly, her cerulean eyes filled with admiration. She wanted to burn this image into her brain forever…
Marisa on the other hand was speechless. Marisa’s throat became dry like sand, her hands now sweaty, and her pupils dilated at the sight in front of her eyes. It took everything in Marisa not to pull (your name) in for a kiss- wait… a kiss? Where did that thought come from?
Marisa shook her head, her cheeks warm when she noticed (your name)’s eyes on her. Oh no… she hadn’t meant to stare for so long.
         “Y-you look beautiful.”
“Thank you.” (Your name) thanked her friends for their compliment, Cressida’s sharp eyes soon realized (your name) didn’t have proper footwear… she’d have to buy her some.
“Let’s be on our way. I’ll pick you some shoes out and you’ll be all set.”
Marisa frowned when Cressida stole (your name) away. She hated Cressida and not just because Cressida held an obvious torch for (your name). No. There was something off about the golden haired girl.
And Marisa’s gut has never been proven wrong… but she couldn’t put her finger on what it could be…

Sorry for not updating more often everyone.
My house just got a new dog, and I have to watch her until someone comes home to take over. I do see you all in my inbox, so please don’t think I forgot about you.
Also as a life update, I got into my dream school! yippee!🥳 I’m studying to be a Radiology tech, and I start June 1st. I’m going to be doing this for 2 years straight with little to no breaks, so I probably won’t have any time to write for the Street Fighter 6 fandom like I used to.
So for anyone who wants to request anything for SF6, go crazy in my inbox. I’ll answer all of them the best I can until May 31st.
But after that, I will be on Hiatus for 2 years until my program is over. Boo. I’ll still reblog sf6 content on here but I won’t be as active.
Hopefully you all understand.
NOW request what you want ppl. My restriction is don’t request characters outside of SF6 that haven’t been properly introduced yet. Because it takes more time for me to research characters than it does to write them.
Characters I wouldn’t write for:
E. Honda
M. Bison
Dhalsim
Zangief
Akuma
These characters are hard for me to write fanfics for, so please refrain from requesting them.
ps this is the little rascal keeping me up at night. Her name is Sasha.

Yearling - Ch. 34: Anything
You're left behind in Jackson when Joel goes on overnight patrol. A continuation of Yearling ch. 1-33 found on Tumblr here.
Tumblr media
Pairing: Joel Miller x Female Reader
Warnings: Canon-typical violence. Smut :). No use of Y/N. Minors DNI 18+ Only
Length: 9.2k
A/N: We are heading into the final arc of Yearling and we are going to see some TLOU 2 OVERLAP again. There isn't any this chapter but there will be in this arc and here's how: a character from that game will be mentioned as will the spoiler-y incident from a few chapters ago. What happens plot wise in this arc is completely separate from the game and entirely original content BUT there is that character overlap and more specific mentions of the incident and the motives behind it. If you're trying to go in blind to season 2, it might be wise to step back. Feel free to send me a DM, I'm happy to answer any and all questions!

September, 2013
The gunshot made you jump.
It was distant but sharp, the crack jarring against the quiet of your cabin. Marisa’s head shot up from her book, a frown on her face in the flickering firelight.
“Was that…”
“Shhh,” you sat up from where you’d been lying against her, held a hand out to her, ear perked and listening. Another crack, a little louder this time. You set your book down and went to the front window, drawing the curtains and pinning them shut so no light from the fire would slip through.
“What…”
“Stay here,” you said, your heart pounding as you got your rifle off the wall.
“You’re not going out there!” She shot up, her eyes wide.
“Not gonna sit here and wait for whoever that is to show up at our door,” you replied, grabbing a flashlight, too.
“Well, I’m going with you,” she said, going to get her gun, too.
“No,” you said, grabbing a saddle bag with ammunition and turning to face her.
“Yes, I am,” she narrowed her eyes at you but there was a tremble of fear in her voice, her rifle clutched tightly in her hand.
“No,” you said quietly, reaching out and gently taking her face in your hand. “You’re not. You’re staying here to look after Savannah…”
“But what if something happens to you?” Her eyes searched yours, wide and frantic. “You’re her mom, not me. I can’t be that for her like that, just… stay here, we’ll figure it out if they find us just…”
“Not lettin’ them that close to the two of you, baby,” you said, brushing your thumb over the arch of her cheekbone. You kissed her gently. Her eyes were wet. “I’ll be back soon. But… if I’m not, take care of Savannah for me.”
You didn’t wait for a response, going to jump on Nike, not bothering with a saddle. You were too afraid to take the time, you had to protect the people who had become your home. You couldn’t lose them, you couldn’t let anyone take them away, you had to make sure they were safe.
There was another gunshot and you followed the sound, your heart racing, eventually finding a man with two infected nearly ripping him apart. You shot them quickly, the man’s fearful gasps loud in the night.
“Fuck,” he panted as you turned on the flashlight, shining it around the nearby forest. You caught a glimpse of another infected on the ground about 20 feet away before turning the light on him. He was limp on the ground, his eyes wide. “I think I’m bit, I think… I think they got me.”
You knelt beside him and looked at his exposed skin. There was a vicious bite on his hand, the flesh already looking sick and wrong and so like Justin’s bite all those years ago.
You sighed.
“Yeah, you are. I can make it quick for you, if you’d like. Can’t let you leave here, though. You can wait ’til you turn, if you’d rather.”
He blinked a few times, staring up at the dark canopy of trees as moonlight filtered through the leaves.
“Just do it,” he said, turning his eyes to you, cocking his head slightly. “Is it just you out here?”
“Kind of,” you said. “Got my girlfriend, my daughter. No one else, though.”
He looked back to the sky and nodded.
“That’s good,” he said. “It’s hard, being alone. Been alone for a few months now, wife got bit back in June. Should’ve just ended it then, don’t know why I waited this long.”
You nodded slowly. You understood that. You stood up again, rifle in your hand. The man’s eyes were still wide, looking up at the trees.
“Here OK?” You asked. “Might be able to get you somewhere you can see the sky…”
“No point,” he said, still staring up. “Just do it.”
His eyes refocused, looking at you.
“And thank you. Know it’s not easy.”
You aimed the gun at his head and he went back to looking at the trees.
“I’m sorry it’s endin’ like this,” you said. “Hope you get to be with your wife again.”
“Yeah,” he whispered. “Me too.”
You took a deep breath, pulled the trigger and he was gone.
You stayed for a little while after, waiting to see if there were any clickers that would come for the noise you’d been making but none showed up. You realized you didn’t even know the man’s name. You were the last person he spoke to and you didn’t know his name.
You cleaned the blood off your hands as best you could and made your way back home, Nike moving slowly through the trees and you didn’t rush her. When you opened the door, Marisa damn near knocked you down, you barely catching her as she threw herself at you.
“You’re OK,” her voice was thick and wet and she clung to you for a moment before pulling back to look in your eyes. “I was so scared, I heard more gunshots, I didn’t know…”
“I’m sorry, baby,” you said gently, kissing her, her lips plush and soft on yours. “Didn’t mean to scare you…”
You got cleaned up and took her to bed and made her come on your fingers before she had to swallow the desperate sounds of your orgasm to keep from waking the baby. You held her close after, telling her what happened in the forest, that you’d go bury the body in the morning and do a check for infected, that she was safe here with you.
“I think you’re the bravest person I’ve ever met,” she said quietly, toying with your fingers, her breath warm on your skin as she lay her head on your chest.
You scoffed.
“Don’t feel very brave. I was scared shitless the whole time, thought my damn heart was going to beat out of my chest.”
“Oh baby,” she whispered, adjusting so her face was over yours, the light of the moon making her dark skin glow. “That’s what makes you brave, that you’re scared and you do it anyway. You don’t let the fear own you. That’s why you’re going to make it through all this, I just know it.”
You hummed, not really agreeing or disagreeing, just wanting her close again. She rested her head on your chest again and you gave her a squeeze, focusing on how she felt against you as she fell asleep.
It didn’t really matter if it was bravery or not, you supposed. If it kept the people you loved most alive, you could push past the fear. Life wouldn’t matter without them, you would do anything if it meant it would protect them.
Anything.
May, 2028
“No way.”
You cleaned the last of the gunk out from Shimmer’s back left hoof and set the pick down.
“Bambi,” Ellie drew out your hame, whining it. “Please? I swear, I’ll owe you forever…”
“I am not coming out to your dad for you,” you grabbed the file. “Absolutely not.”
“But…”
“Ellie,” you looked up to her as she perched on a stall in the barn. “No. That’s not something you just do for someone else. If you want Joel to know you’re gay you need to be the one to tell him, I can’t do that for you.”
“But why not!” She pouted. “You already know and you get it and you can help him get it and…”
“I’ll help you do it,” you cut her off. “I can be there when you tell him, I can intervene if he reacts badly - which he won’t - but I’m not doing it for you.”
“That’s bullshit,” she huffed. “I don’t want to tell him…”
“Then don’t,” you shrugged, finishing filing the hoof down and getting the next horseshoe ready to go on. “Live the rest of your life in the closet if that’s what you want to do.”
“But that’s not what I want.”
“Then tell him,” you shrugged again. “Those are your options, kiddo, hate to break it to you.”
“You know, straight people don’t have to come out,” she kicked at the stall post. “This is dumb.”
“That I can agree with,” you said. “But, unfortunately, that’s not the way the world works. If you want to be out, you need to come out. It sucks but that’s the way of things.”
Ellie sighed and crossed her arms, leaning her head on the post at her back.
“Do you really think I should?” She asked.
You shrugged.
“I think you have a father who loves you more than life itself,” you said. “And I think he’s also a man who has proven that he really does not care what a person’s sexuality is, given that he’s married to me. I think you should do what feels right but you should know that Joel is going to love you to pieces regardless.”
She sighed again.
“You’re right…”
“Usually am.”
She glared at you before going back to staring straight ahead.
“I just don’t know why I’m so freaked out about it.”
You shrugged.
“It’s a big deal. You’re telling him ‘hey this person you think I am? I’m actually different than that.’ It’s hard.”
She considered you for a moment.
“Did you come out to your parents?” She asked.
You laughed.
“No, I did not,” you said. “Never had the chance. I would have eventually, I think. But I was about your age when the world ended and it felt a lot safer to hide it from my parents when I was that age. I lived far away and they weren’t as… open to other ideas as Joel is.”
Ellie scoffed.
“I mean it,” you said. “They had a hard enough time handling the fact that I wanted to get thrown off horses for a living. They’d have had a hell of a time understanding why I was bringing a girl home for dinner. You know Joel ain’t that way. All he cares about is that you’re safe and happy. Everything else don’t really matter.”
You finished shoeing Shimmer and set her hoof down. She twitched her tail and chuffed in response.
“Can you at least tell Joel you gave me…” She scrunched her nose in disgust. “The talk?”
You laughed a little.
“Yeah, that I can do,” you said. “I’ll tell him I told you everything you need to know. Which is be smart about who you take your clothes off with and if a man ever tries anything, cut his dick off.”
She barked a laugh.
“Yeah, that I can handle,” she said. “I can’t believe he thought someone needed to talk to me about sex…”
You were less surprised about that fact than Ellie, but then, you had the full context.
You’d been watching Savvy and Kyle from what you hoped was a respectful distance, giving her the chance to fall for a boy in the way you always wanted her to be able to. But there was the other part of that, too. You knew what teenagers were like and, while Savvy knew about sex, you’d never given her the sex talk in the context of her being around boys. She had questions about seeing animals mating when she was a girl and you’d answered them and explained that humans worked much the same way. She’d scrunched her face in disgust and you laughed a little, not bothering to tell her that, one day, that was going to be damn near all she was interested in doing.
But that had come with the knowledge that, in all likelihood, it would be years - if not decades - before she even had the opportunity to find someone she wanted to do that with. You figured you’d update things as she got older or when there was a person she was interested in.
Now, the time had come. You just weren’t sure how ready you were for that. You’d gone to Joel for advice about it, feeling like you were flying particularly blind in this arena.
“Shit, baby, been a long time since I’ve had that conversation,” he said as he traced abstract little patterns over your bare skin. “Tryin’ to even remember how I brought it up with Sarah now… My face was burnin’ up the whole time, that much I know.”
“There were perks to being hermits,” you sighed, pressing yourself closer to him. “Didn’t have to worry about my kid getting knocked up as a teenager for one.”
“Mmm,” Joel hummed in agreement. “Least she has boys to flirt with now.”
“You say that like it’s a good thing,” you muttered but smiled against his skin all the same.
“I can talk to her with you if you think it’ll help,” he said.
“Let me give it a shot on my own,” you sighed. “See if she will actually listen to me. If she doesn’t, I’ll call in the reinforcements.”
Savvy had, mercifully, been at least open to the conversation.
“I already know this stuff, Mom,” she’d rolled her eyes, arms crossed as she sat on the couch.
“You know the biology of it,” you said. “But it’s… different. You’re older now, there are going to be feelings you have that you want to act on…”
“Ugh!” She buried her face in the arm of the couch. “Please don’t!”
“You’re young,” you said. “Too young to really understand the risks. Do you feel like you’re ready to raise a child?”
“No!” She pulled her head up. “Obviously not!”
“Then you shouldn’t be having sex right now,” you shrugged. “That’s the risk. Not to mention that there are a lot of emotions that come up when you do that with someone, it can complicate relationships and you’re too young to figure that out on your own…”
“I’m not a baby,” she practically scowled at you. “I can handle emotions!”
“I’m not saying you can’t,” you said gently. “I’m saying that adult relationships are complicated for adults and, as grown up as you might think you are, you’re still a kid. I understand that you might want to feel close with someone and, honestly, there’s not much I can do to stop you. But I want you to understand what you’re risking if you go that route and I want you to not let anyone pressure you into it, even if it’s someone you care about. OK?”
“Alright, jeez!” She groaned. “Can we stop talking now? Please?”
After that conversation, though, Joel became worried about how much time Ellie was spending with Jesse.
“Never really thought about what she did or didn’t learn in the QZ,” Joel said gruffly that night when it was just the two of you. “What if she don’t know how to keep herself safe?”
“I don’t think you have much to worry about,” you said, trying to avoid telling Joel exactly why he didn’t need to worry.
“Would you be OK talkin’ with her for me?” He’d winced as he asked it. “Feel like you’re her mom, think she’d be a little more… receptive to it coming from another woman.”
You’d said yes more to buy time than anything else.
You weren’t thrilled about the idea of lying to your husband but you could tap dance around the truth of it well enough. At least, that’s what you were telling yourself.
“While you’re trying to decide whether or not you want to tell your dad,” you said, getting up to lead Shimmer to her stall. “Think I’m going to call in that favor you owe me…”
“What favor?” She demanded. “You’re not telling him for me!”
“No,” you shook your head. “But I’m also not telling him that I didn’t give you the talk and he needs to do it himself…”
“Jesus…”
“So,” you continued. “Can I ask you to keep a closer eye on Savvy while Joel is out on patrol the next few days? She’s still… more comfortable talking with him than with me. Want to make sure she’s doin’ OK…”
“Of course I will,” she said, relaxing a little. “You know, I still think…”
“Ellie.”
“I’m just saying!” She said. “I know she’s doing her best to move past shit, she really is, but it would be a lot easier if she knew what she was actually moving past, that’s all I’m saying.”
“She’s getting there,” you said, giving Shimmer a scratch. “You don’t understand this yet but it’s hard when you know you can’t protect your child from everything. I can protect her from this.”
“Whatever you say,” she rolled her eyes. “I’m going to the mess hall. As far as Joel knows, you’ve talked to me, right?”
“Right,” you said. “Feel free to act all awkward and lay it on real thick…”
“Alright, bye,” she rolled her eyes and stalked off and you laughed, watching her leave.
It was good to see Ellie acting like she normally did. You knew she was worried about Joel going out on a longer patrol, too.
You were trying not to panic about it. It was time. Consciously, you knew that. He was ready for it, his body as healed as it would ever be. He still had a bit of a limp - one you knew he tried to disguise when he thought you were watching - but he was fully capable. You’d seen it on patrol with him the two times you’d gone, the second one thankfully far less eventful than the first.
He’d since gone out just him and Tommy, never going too far from Jackson. It still made you nervous, even though he always came back whole and well. You always clung to him when he got back and he let you, holding you against him, a hand running soothingly up and down your spine as he did.
But this was his first overnight patrol. He was going to be gone for a few days on a route that had been calm lately, you knew you didn’t have much reason to worry. That didn’t make it much easier.
“What’s got those wheels turnin’?”
Joel’s voice made you jump as you brushed Shimmer down in her stall. He was leaning against the entrance to the stable, arms crossed over his broad chest as he watched you, his denim shirt rolled up to his elbows.
“Who said they were?” You asked, giving the horse a final brush before leaving the stall and walking up to your husband, your own arms crossed over your chest. He smiled and quirked his jaw, shaking his head ever so slightly. “What brings you here, cowboy?”
“Tryin’ to get my wife all to myself for a bit,” he said. “Think I can entice you away from the mess hall for the evening?”
“I dunno,” you stepped closer. “What’d you have in mind?”
He shrugged.
“Just have to see.”
You laughed, dropping your arms and the pretense.
“Lead the way.”
He draped an arm around your shoulders and pulled you in to kiss your temple before walking slowly back to your house. When you stopped to think about it, it still struck you as funny that it was your house and that you thought of it that way and not as Joel’s place. But you did, it was the place you’d made your life together, feeling more like you belonged here than you had almost anywhere else you had ever lived.
When you got in the door, there was a small bouquet of wildflowers in a glass in the middle of the kitchen table, a table that was set for dinner for two. You looked at him, brows raised in surprise.
“What’s this?”
He shrugged, a sly smile on his face.
“Wanted a night in with my girl. Might have talked my way into a steak or two. Think you take yours… medium rare, right?”
“Yeah,” you laughed. “I do.”
“Well,” he pulled you in for a long, deep kiss. “Why don’t you go get cleaned up and when you’re done, there’ll be a medium-rare steak waitin’ here for ya.”
“Think I can be convinced,” you smiled against his mouth before kissing him again. “Feel like you’re butterin’ me up or something here…”
“Just tryin’ to make sure you remember why you’re married to me while I’m gone,” he said. “Try to keep you from getting too fed up with my shit…” You laughed and he smiled. “Go on so I can get this going, you’re too distracting standing this close.”
You rolled your eyes but obeyed, going to shower and, instead of putting on jeans or sweats after, finding one of the dresses in your closet, one that Joel had never seen you in. You got your wet hair out of the way and went downstairs again, strangely aware of how the dress hugged your curves.
Joel’s back was to you when you came in but the plates were on the table, steak and green beans and a pile of fresh potato chips on each one.
“Are you kidding me?” You gaped at them. “You realize we’re already married, right? You don’t have to try this hard.”
“Like tryin’ hard for you,” he turned around, glasses in hand, and his mouth fell open, blinking a few times in surprise. “Hot damn, baby…”
“Shocking, know,” you smirked.
“I ever tell you you’re the most beautiful goddamn thing I’ve ever seen?” He asked, setting a glass down at your place. “Now, let me feed you before I change my mind and try to pull that dress off right here in the kitchen.”
Joel really did grill a mean steak. He’d even made the two of you whiskey cocktails with a recipe he’d gotten from Julie and, by the time dinner was done, you were pleasantly tipsy and full.
“Where did you get the flowers?” You asked, trailing your fingertips over the tiny white blooms.
“Might have gone outside for a bit,” he winced a little. You raised your eyebrows. “Not far, the kids in town sneak out that way all the time…”
“Wait, what?” You gaped at him, practically jumping out of your seat.
“Not Savvy and not Ellie,” he said quickly and you settled. “Made sure they know better. But lot of the other kids do. S’pretty out that way, have to take you sometime. Still owe you a trip to the lake. But, in the mean time…” he got up and offered you his hand, pulling you to your feet. “I’ve got someplace to take you tonight.”
He led you to the living room, a nest of pillows and blankets and sleeping bags set up in front of the TV.
“Just one second…” he turned the TV on, the opening sepia toned shot from Titanic on the screen.
“Joel!” You gasped. “Where’d you even get this?”
“Asked around,” he smiled. “Would’ve gone and hunted it down just to see you get all excited though.”
You elbowed him lightly in the side and he laughed as the two of you settled into the pile on the floor, you in Joel’s arms with your head on his chest as his fingers trailed up and down the bare skin of your arm.
The movie was just as good as the last time you’d seen it with Joel. Better, really, because you got to watch it pressed completely against his broad, strong body. But you could only really pay attention so long, twisting in his hold so you were looking at him and not the screen.
“Know it ain’t exactly a date like before,” he said softly. “But… I do OK?”
“Oh you blew past OK a while ago,” you laughed a little and he smiled. “This was… thank you, Joel.”
“Course, baby,” he trailed his fingers over the outline of your face. “Gonna miss you when I’m out there.”
“You could just not go,” you said. “Don’t think anyone’s holdin’ a gun to your head about it…”
He laughed once, softly.
“I know,” he said. “But… I do appreciate you lettin’ me go. I know it ain’t easy for you. Don’t blame you for it. But I’m feeling a lot more like myself since I’ve been patrollin’ again. I feel useful. I missed it. Thank you for letting me find that again.”
Your eyes searched his. You couldn’t really argue that with him, not when he was being so damn open and honest about it.
“Just need you to come home to me,” you said quietly. “You can have and do whatever you want, long as you come home.”
“Long as you’re here to come home to?” He said. “I’m comin’ home. Every time.”
He kissed you, gentle at first but deepening, until he was shoving your skirt around your waist and pulling your underwear down your legs. He sank into you, slow and firm, his breaths heavy and hot on your skin. You sank your fingers into is skin, holding him close and tight and the worries you had about clutching onto him too hard were far away.
Joel kept his pace, his body so large and strong on top of and inside of yours. You could feel his heartbeat, his eyes locked on your own and you focused on how close he was to you, how you knew he was safe and whole like this. How you knew he wouldn’t lie to you, that he would do everything to come back home to you. Your body got tight and needy, the heat inside you pulling into the center of you and burning hotter and brighter with every desperate stroke.
“You’re gettin’ close baby,” he pressed his mouth into your throat, nipping at the tender flesh there before soothing it with a brush of his tongue and a kiss. “Want you to come for me. Love makin’ you feel good, fuckin’ live for it…”
“Promise it’s not the last time,” your voice was tight, too, the intensity of your orgasm crashing into the fear that you couldn’t seem to shake.
“Promise,” he pulled back from you enough to look in your eyes again, his large hand coming to cradle the crown of your head. “Nothing’s keepin’ me from you, baby, nothin’, it’s OK, it’ll be OK, promise it will…”
Your back arched, last ounces of tension gripping you for a moment before releasing in a forceful, desperate wave.
“Fuck, there you are,” Joel panted, fucking you through it, never easing, chasing his own orgasm through yours. “Feel so good, so goddamn good, fuck, that’s it, keep comin’ for me, know you can…”
As your own orgasm started to ease, his took hold, pressing himself deep inside and emptying himself into you there.
Joel pulled himself from your fucked out body with a groan and collapsed beside you, immediately pulling you tightly to him as you gasped short, shaky breaths.
“You’re OK,” he said gently, still breathing heavy himself. “I’ve got you, s’alright…”
You buried your face in his neck and fought to catch your breath, focusing on his scent and the feel of him against your skin.
“I’m sorry,” you said eventually. “I thought I was stronger than this but ever since… I can’t stop thinking about how close I came to never seeing you again and I just…”
“I know,” he said gently, pulling away from you enough that you could see his face. “I know how you’re feeling. I feel it, too. But I need you to know that I mean it when I say I’m comin’ back. I am, baby.”
You just nodded and focused on the feeling of him tracing the outline of your face in the dim light of the TV, his body close beside your own. He pressed a soft kiss into your lips, holding you closer as he did and staying close after he pulled away, so close that his nose brushed yours. You stayed like that, not bothering to turn to watch the movie let alone put in the second tape when the first one ended. Instead, you just memorized how he felt against you, how his eyes looked into your own, how his fingers found their familiar paths along your skin.
You weren’t sure when you fell asleep but you were still entangled with him in the morning, his forehead against yours, his breaths easy and deep in sleep. You ran your fingers through his graying curls and his face tensed a little in his sleep before he adjusted, sliding down your body to bury his face against your chest. You just stroked his hair and held him there, the early morning light becoming pink with the sun.
When you couldn’t avoid it any longer, you woke him reluctantly and the two of you made your way to the stables, your body tucked against his. He gave you a squeeze before separating from you, the two of you working together to get the horses ready to head out on patrol. You walked with the patrol to the front gate, Joel leading his horse by the reins instead of riding him so he could hold your hand on the way.
“Be safe,” you said quietly as he faced you, every other horse on the other side of the wall now.
“Promise,” he said gently, his large hand going to the back of your neck and holding you at just the right angle to press a gentle kiss to your lips. “Take care of yourself and our girls. Gimme somethin’ to come home to, OK?”
You smiled a little. Like something was going to happen in Jackson.
“Promise.”
You watched the patrol leave until they were out of sight, trying to calm the thudding of your heart as you headed for the stable to get started on all the work for the day.
You’d purposely set yourself up for a busy few days with Joel gone. If you were occupied, your mind couldn’t wander. So you focused on training horses.
It was the hardest part of your job but also the part you liked the most. You had to concentrate on it otherwise you’d get thrown. The horse could always tell when you were distracted, if you gave them an inch they would take a mile at this stage.
You were finally thinking about finishing up for the day, the sun low in the sky and your back sore after getting nearly thrown off a horse more times than you cared to count when Ellie and Savvy wandered into the stable, giggling to each other as they made their way over to you.
You took a moment to fully appreciate what they were to each other. You’d always felt bad for Savvy, having just you in the world, no one closer to her own age to bond with. Now, she and Ellie were attached at the hip, sharing the kind of bond you’d always longed to have with the sister who had never materialized, no matter how much you begged your parents for one. Both of them meant so much to you, the whole of the future wrapped up in them. You had survived a lot to get to this point, horrors you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy, but you’d do it all again to see these two girls find sisterhood in each other. Conspiratorial whispers and knowing laughs and deep love was everything you wanted for your daughter and she had found it here.
“Terrified to know what this is about,” you half smiled as they walked over..
“Why does it have to be about something?” Ellie rolled her eyes. “What if we just wanted to come say hi.”
“Because I don’t think I’ve ever seen you two stop by to just say hi,” you said. “So that would be highly suspect. What do you want?”
“Can we go spend the night at Dina’s?” Savvy asked, the words all spilling out of her at once. “I promise we’ll behave and…”
“Dina’s?” You asked, raising your eyebrows at Ellie.
“Yeah, my friend Dina’s,” she gave you a firm look as she said it.
“And what will you be doing at Dina’s?” You asked, turning your attention back to Savvy.
“Just hanging out with some friends,” she said.
“Any boys?” You asked.
“No,” Ellie said quickly. “Mostly some of the girls who just finished up school and the girls who are about Savvy’s age, nothing crazy…”
“Please Mom?” Savvy interrupted her. “It’s going to be so fun and I haven’t done anything like this before but I’ve read about it and it sounds so cool and I really want to go and…”
“And Dina’s sister will be there?” You asked Ellie, who perked up at the question.
“Yeah,” Ellie said. “And she doesn’t let Dina get away with shit…”
“You do realize that you’re 18 and I can’t do a damn thing to stop you, right?” You said to Ellie. “Adults don’t need to ask their moms for permission.”
“I know,” Ellie said. “But so is Dina. And it’ll be more fun if Savvy can go. I’ll keep an eye on her, I promise.”
You looked between them, Savvy looking more happy and open with you than she had in months, so like how she used to look at you when asking for something when she was small. Her eyes were so wide and hopeful and you couldn’t say no, not when she was looking at you like that.
“Alright,” you sighed. Savvy squealed. “But you have to behave. Savvy, no drinking. If there are boys, you come home. No doin’ stupid shit like climbing buildings…”
“Oh that was like one time!” Ellie protested but you silenced her with a look.
“And I expect everything to stay PG,” you finished.
Ellie frowned.
“What the fuck does PG mean?”
You shook your head a little, some things still surprising you about how different the world was, even after all these years.
“It’s a saying from before,” you said. “Means make sure whatever you do, it’s family friendly. That means if you say you and Dina are friends, you act like friends.”
“We are friends,” Ellie rolled her eyes.
“Oh sure,” Savvy drew out the last word, laughing. “I always want to kiss my friends…”
Ellie elbowed her and she laughed harder before quieting down.
“We won’t cause any trouble,” Ellie said. “Promise.”
“You two have fun,” you said. “And come by the stable in the morning so I know you’re still alive.”
“OK Mom,” Ellie rolled her eyes, nudging a giddy Savvy toward the door.
“Thank you, Mom!” Savvy called, giving you a wave as Ellie urged her outside.
You just laughed and watched until you couldn’t see them anymore before taking your time getting everything set for the night. Your house would be empty overnight for the first time since you’d gotten married. You hadn’t slept without Joel beside you in months, you weren’t in a rush to get home and feel his absence there. But, after a while, you couldn’t stall anymore. You made your way to the mess hall, already mostly empty, but found Maria there with William next to her. She smiled and waved you over and you joined them, sitting across the table as William crashed a carved moose and deer into each other, complete with sound effects.
“See you’re putting off being home, too,” she said, putting one hand in the middle of William’s back.
“Yeah, well,” you sighed. “That’s a damn big house for one person.”
She smiled tightly, knowingly.
“It’s always hard, thinking about them out there like that,” she said. “But this one feels harder.”
“Yeah,” you said, laughing once, darkly. “It really does.”
“Hey Aunt Bambi,” William looked up from his toys, his brown eyes reminding you of Joel’s. There was so much of the Miller men in his face it made your heart ache. “Did you know that moose are the biggest deer sp…sp…” he frowned and looked up at his mom.
“Species,” Maria finished for him before looking over at you. “He’s been obsessed with that carving ever since Joel gave it to him for Christmas so we’ve been learning about moose…”
“Well, moose are pretty cool,” you said knowingly.
“I want to see one,” he said. “Mommy says I can’t ride it but I bet I could ride it.”
You tried really hard not to laugh, William’s springy curls bouncing as he looked down at the carving in his chubby hand.
“I don’t think ridin’ it would be a good idea,” you said. “They’re big, could be very dangerous. But they are neat to see.”
“They’re not dangerous,” he frowned. “I bet we would be friends, just because they are big doesn’t mean they’re dangerous…”
“OK let’s I’d rather not think about you riding a moose,” Maria rolled her eyes. “We can start with seeing one from afar once you’re older.”
He just sighed heavily, as though the weight of the world were on his small shoulders, and went back to playing with the carvings.
“I remember when Savvy was that age,” you smiled a little. “She was all about horses, though…”
“Wonder where she got that from,” Maria smiled back.
The three of you were the last to leave the mess hall, the clean up team heading to the kitchens  before you started heading out.
“You’re welcome to come over if you don’t want to be at home,” Maria said, carrying William as he started to fall asleep on her shoulder. “Our door is always open…”
“Thanks but I need to bite the bullet,” you sighed. “If Joel’s going out on longer patrols again, I need to get used to spending some nights home alone.”
“Well, the offer still stands,” she said. “As long as you don’t mind my kid babbling to you about moose, apparently.”
You laughed a little.
“He can babble to me about whatever he wants,” you said.
You parted ways and walked around Jackson for a few minutes before heading for the barn where the dogs were kenneled overnight, leaving a note on the log and taking Gatling from her designated place. She trailed behind you home, happy to be under your control again, and you fell asleep with her curled up against your stomach.
It was a relief to start the next day. You were halfway through your days with Joel outside, not sure if he was safe, too far away for you to see our touch. You could do one more night. You brought Gatling back to her kennel before heading to the stables and getting to work.
The girls came by in the late morning, both looking exhausted but otherwise OK.
“We’re going to go home and take a nap,” Ellie said, talking for Savvy who was staring straight ahead, looking dazed. “But we’ll be in the mess hall at lunch…”
“Go sleep before you fall over,” you smiled and shook your head. “Fill me in on everything later.”
Ellie steered Savvy out of the stable and you laughed a little. Savvy had friends, friends she was staying up all night with. It was everything you wanted for her, watching her grow up both beautiful and sad, thinking she would never have friends like this.
The girls beat you to the mess hall, their backs to the door you came in, their heads together, talking conspiratorially.
“She can’t know,” Ellie said quietly. “She’d freak out…”
“We can handle it,” Savvy said, quiet but sharp.
“Handle what?” You asked, making both of them jump, their eyes going wide. They looked at each other quickly and you frowned. “Girls. Handle what.”
“Nothing,” Ellie said quickly. Savvy was looking at you with a strange expression on her face. “Just… there’s a girl we know, this guy is being a dick. I think we can handle it without talking to her because I think if she knew it’d just be extra shitty.”
You frowned.
“Not gonna go pick a fight, are you? Because…”
“No,” she said. “Not picking a fight.”
“OK,” you said, still uncertain. “But I think…”
“Actually, Bambi, if it’s OK, we’re just going to head out,” Ellie said, cutting you off. “We got here early and I need to go bug Jesse about something.”
“Alright,” you frowned, looking between the two of them. “Are y’all sure everything is OK? Because…”
“It’s fine,” Ellie said before you could finish. “Right, Savvy?”
“Yeah,” she said, still looking at you with an expression you couldn’t quite place. Part of it like she didn’t know you at all. “It’s OK.”
“Alright,” you didn’t really believe either of them. “Look, if this boy is a serious problem…”
“Nothing like that,” Ellie cut you off again. “C’mon, Savvy.”
She got up and took Savvy’s hand, pulling her to her feet, too.
“Where can I find you two later,” you said. “Because…”
“We’ll be home,” Ellie said. “Don’t worry. It’s fine.”
She started pulling Savvy along behind her but Savvy just stayed where she was, her feet planted, eyes locked on you.
“Are you sure you’re OK?” You asked, brows knitting together. “If there’s anything you want to talk about…”
Savvy threw her arms around your waist, catching you totally by surprise, burying her face in your shoulder. You slowly, cautiously, put your arms around her, too, just holding her for a moment. It was so foreign yet familiar, so long since she’d latched onto you like this but holding her one of the only things it felt like you’d been made to do.
“You can always talk to me,” you said softly, running your hand over the back of her mass of curls and pressing a kiss to her temple. “About anything, I’m always here for you.”
“I know,” she said, stepping back and looking at you again. “I love you, Mom.”
You just stared at her for a moment, heart feeling like it was cracking open.
“I love you, too,” you said, your hands still on her shoulders. “More than anything.”
“C’mon Savvy,” Ellie said, taking her arm and tugging her away. “See ya, Bambi.”
You watched them go and debated following them before deciding to give Savvy some space. But, by the time you finished having lunch, you’d thought better of it. You were heading to see if they’d actually gone home but Olivia stopped you as you went past the stables, needing help with the horse you’d been working with the day before. It was hours before you could make it back to the house, bypassing your front door and heading straight for the back yard, knocking on Ellie’s door instead.
“One sec!” Ellie called and you heard her scramble for the door, breathless when she opened it. “Hey Bambi, what’s up?”
“Nothing,” you shrugged, not asking for permission and just stepping inside. Savvy was sitting crosslegged in the middle of her bed looking a little more like herself. Or, at least, the self you’d come to recognize her as lately, a little angry with her mouth set in a firm line. “Wanted to see what you girls were up to tonight, make sure everything was OK.”
“We’re fine,” Savvy said, sounding less angry than she looked. “Just pretty tired.”
You nodded slowly.
“Get that stuff figured out with your friend earlier?” You asked, looking between them.
“Think so,” Ellie said. “We can handle it. Right?”
“Right,” Savvy said, giving her a firm nod.
You looked between them, hoping one of them would elaborate. Neither did.
“Alright, look,” you said. “Both of you are actin’ real weird. I need you to tell me what it is you’re schemin’ up because, while I understand that you want to take care of your friend, you can’t just go around causing problems here in town over something like a break up…”
“We’re not causing any problems in town,” Ellie said reassuringly. “I promise, we’re not going to go beat up some kid in Jackson or anything like that, I swear.”
You looked to Savvy.
“She’s right,” she said. “We really aren’t.”
You clenched your jaw for a moment. Something felt… off. They were telling the truth but you were uneasy. Something was up.
“We’re actually still really tired,” Ellie said after a minute. “So, if it’s OK with you, we’re just going to call it a night…”
“You swear you’re not going to go beat up some boy?” You asked, looking between them.
“Promise,” Ellie said. “The Jackson boys are safe from us.”
You sighed, hoping to get Joel’s help getting more out of them when he was back the next night.
“Alright. You two actually get some damn sleep, OK?”
“OK Mom,” Ellie rolled her eyes and you smiled a little. At least that seemed like Ellie.
You went back to the house, sitting at the window to the backyard with a cup of tea for a bit, until the lights went off in their little house. Something still pulled at you but you went and settled on the couch, putting on an old VHS tape that had been in Joel’s house, whoever had lived here before’s recording of some episodes of Seinfeld. You didn’t fast forward through the commercials, marveling at how far away the world that sold things like Oreos seemed. You’d only been about Savvy’s age when this had been recorded. Your relationship with your mother had been fraught, too. As hard as it was to have the only reason you’d fought so hard to survive be distant, she’d done more with you today than you would have with your own mother at that age. You sighed. Maybe you were through the worst of it. Maybe this was just what it was like parenting a teenager, strange distance interspersed with shocking moments of vulnerability.
You dozed off halfway through the third episode and the pounding on your front door made you sit bolt upright, shocking awake with a gasp.
The sound was relentless, a fist slamming into wood instead of rapping against it. You scrambled off the couch and pulled the door open without bothering to see who was on the other side of it, your heart in your throat. What if it was Maria? What if something had happened to Joel?
But standing on your porch was Kyle, the boy Savvy had been spending time with, his shock of red hair slick with sweat, his freckled skin blotchy and red. There was a gash on his cheek.
“Mrs. Miller,” he panted, looking at you with wide eyes. “I’m so sorry, they let me go, they let me go to come find you…”
“Slow down, kid,” you said gently, heart still pounding. You put your hands on his shoulders and guided him inside. “Take a deep breath, what’s goin’ on, is everyone OK?”
“No,” he shook his head, his eyes still wild and frantic. “No, they’re not OK. He’s got them, he’s got them, I tried to stop him but I couldn’t, there were too many and…”
“Who’s got who?” You frowned. “Need you to slow down, you’re not making any…”
“Savvy and Ellie,” he said. Your heart stopped. “He’s got them.”
***
“Swear to God this is the longest damn patrol I’ve ever been on,” Joel said, happy he could actually recognize some of what was around them now.
“And we’re even gettin’ back a few hours early,” Tommy gave him a cocky smile. “At least it was an easy one.”
“Jesus, don’t know if I’d call it easy with how my damn leg is feelin’,” Joel said. “Swear all I’m doin’ tonight is soaking in the damn bath…”
“See how your wife feels about that,” Tommy teased and Joel rolled his eyes. “I’ve seen how you two look at each other…”
“Fuck off,” Joel said, smiling all the same.
“S’what I thought,” Tommy said.
It had been an easy few days, all things considered. They’d picked off a few stray infected but no signs of a larger group. No immediate signs of raiders, either, the territory they covered broad and quiet. They’d made good time coming back, closing in on Jackson around noon instead of that evening. It was one of those times that Joel was glad that you worked in the stables, happy he’d have an excuse to go right to you the second he was in the gate. He didn’t care that he knew that he smelled, days of sweat and dirt stuck on his skin and clothes. You wouldn’t mind. You’d damn near tackle him, throwing your arms around his neck and pressing your body into his and he’d forget for a moment just how bad his damn leg was hurting after spending two and a half days on a horse.
But Joel knew something was off the second the gate opened, guards whispering low to each other as Joel and Tommy dismounted.
“Who died?” Tommy frowned, looking around.
“Maria’s on her way up,” Jason, one of the guards, said. “She knows what’s going on…”
Joel frowned at Tommy, who’s face had fallen, skin going pale.
“I’m sure s’all fine,” Joel said, limping more than usual as he went to stand beside his brother, clapping a reassuring hand on his shoulder. “It’s Jackson, what could happen?”
Maria appeared then, walking quickly and talking seriously with Warren.
“Oh Jesus,” Tommy said softly. “This is bad…”
“Think we lost someone?” Joel asked, voice low.
“Feels like we’re about to go to fuckin’ war,” Tommy said, matching Joel’s tone.
“Good to see you two back and in one piece,” Maria said, Joel’s stomach lurching at her tone. She was talking like a member of the council not like his sister-in-law. “Jason, take the horses to get settled. I need to talk to Joel and Tommy.”
Joel’s heart beat a little faster. She said it like she needed to talk to him, like Tommy was there to make sure he didn’t fly off the handle. She put her hand in the middle of Joel’s back and guided him to the Tipsy Bison, the bar empty this early in the day.
“What’s goin’ on?” Tommy asked the second they were in the door. “Is William OK? Why’s everyone actin’ like someone fuckin’ died?”
“William is fine, he’s with the neighbors,” Maria said gently before turning her attention to Joel. “I need you to stay calm…”
“Why,” he demanded. “Maria…”
“We don’t know everything,” she cut him off. “We’ve only known about it for maybe two hours, we’re still coming up with a plan and…”
“Known about what,” Joel demanded. “What’s goin’ on?”
Maria took a deep breath and looked him dead in his eyes.
“Bambi, Ellie and Savvy are gone.”
Time slowed. His heart dropped and there was a high pitched whine ringing in his head.
That didn’t make sense. This was Jackson. Things were safe here, everything was supposed to be safe here, that’s why he’d stayed here, risked everything to bring Ellie back here, done everything to keep you here when you’d tried to leave before and something had taken you from him anyway.
“What do you mean they’re gone?” Tommy’s voice snapped him back into his head. “Where’d they go? What happened?”
“This is everything we know,” Maria held a folded piece of paper out to Joel, his name in your handwriting on one half of it like you were addressing a letter. “We’re doing everything we can…”
Joel unfolded the page with trembling hands, the crinkle of the paper almost sharp in his ears.
Joel,
I know I promised to be here to come home to but Cody has our girls and I’m going to get them back. He told me to come alone or they die and I can’t risk them. Please don’t come after me, not until we know they’re safe. I’ll do everything I can to come back to you but if I don’t, protect them and take care of yourself. They need you.
If I never see you again, I want you to know that loving you was worth surviving for. Getting to be your wife and taking care of our girls with you was the best thing that ever happened to me.
Be safe.
I love you.
You signed your name, your real name, like you had the tape you gave him for Christmas but there was one notable difference: your last name was Miller.
Joel’s fist got tight around the paper. He’d lost you and his girls. He’d let the man who had hurt you live and now that had all three of you, doing who knows what to you.
“They were here yesterday,” Maria’s voice sounded far away. “It must have happened overnight. When Bambi didn’t show up at the stables today, Olivia sent someone to check on her around 10 a.m. and they found the note…”
Joel wasn’t listening, turning and stalking for the door, taking mental stock of the supplies he still had on him. How much ammunition? He was pretty sure he had a good count of how many rounds he’d fired on patrol but now he was less certain.
“Joel!” Maria’s voice was sharp, making him stop, one hand on the door, the sunlight pouring through the glass of it oddly bright. How could anything be bright right now, at a moment like this? “What are you doing? You can’t just…”
He looked back over his shoulder, his brother and sister-in-law, the pair of them standing and watching him with cautious looks on their faces.
Joel hoped they wouldn’t try to stop him. He loved them both, they were family, but if he had to choose from you and the girls or his brother, his brother would lose every single time. He wouldn’t hesitate to go through them.
Joel had felt like he’d been meant to do very little in his life. Before, he’d worked a job that let him pay his bills and watched college football for a school he’d never had a shot at getting into. Since, he’d done plenty to get by and distract himself from the emptiness of his existence, none of it feeling like it was worth a damn thing. The one different, constant piece had been how he felt about the people his world revolved around. Sarah, Ellie, you, Savvy. The four of you were his calling. The four of you were why he was here at all. He’d survived the loss of Sarah by the skin of his teeth. In so many ways, he never really recovered. He wouldn’t have recovered at all if it weren’t for Ellie.
He wasn’t doing that again. He wouldn’t survive it again. This was life and death, not just for the three of you but for himself, too.
Joel met his brother’s gaze.
“That monster’s got my wife, my daughters,” Joel said, voice dark and firm. “I’m gonna hunt him, I’m gonna hurt him and I’m gonna bring them back.”

WIP Excerpt - Aaron Hotchner x teen!reader
I thought I would share just a little snippet of a project I'm working on. It's a series about Aaron meeting a teenager on a case who ends up being involved, and there's just something so familiar about her...
Reader does use she/her pronouns.
Tumblr media
Everyone had that one touchy subject that seemed to bring back memories of events and cases past. Everyone knew that J.J. was the one who was affected by cases involving children.
But this time it was Hotch who felt his chest restrict with each new fact presented. With every body found the pressure of solving this case felt ten times heavier on his shoulders.
On his nightstand, the alarm clock’s neon blue numbers read 3:22 A.M. He was pacing around the hotel room, mind racing a mile a minute. The facts and theories of the case were incredibly confusing. Everytime the team got close, something drastic changed and they were at square one.
Four young, innocent girls were dead, and a fifth was going to be soon if they didn’t shape up.
Hotch glanced out the window of the third story room to see a small diner in the plaza across the street. On its left there was a tobacco store with big yellow block lettering covering the window pains with advertisements promoting vapes and discounted cartons of Mavericks. To its right there was a laundromat, with a few letters of the sign tilted from rusted out nails crumbling away instead of holding it fast. The glowing blue and pink sign on the diner read “open 24 hours”, though it flickered out every few seconds. Glancing at the clock on the wall, he sighed.
Nothing was getting done in this small room, and the diner would have coffee. He had heard before the coffee from 24 hour diners was always better. He doubted that to be true, but at least it would be caffeinated.
He grabbed the coat off of the chair in the corner of the room, and quietly left, locking the door behind him.
It was a short walk across the street. He pushed open the door, and a bell jingled.
Soft sounds of 70’s music filled his ears. His eyes found a pastel yellow and mint green jukebox in the corner. It was your typical retro themed diner. Checkerboard flooring, blue and pink booths and tables, milkshake decals on the wall, and a long bar that a waitress was cleaning with a rag. With the typical 50’s decorations and colors, but 70’s music playing and newspapers from the 80’s on the wall, the establishment seemed to lack a general knowledge on what decade it was supposed to be emulating. Nonetheless, there was a pot of coffee sitting behind the counter, and it wasn’t like this was the strangest 3 A.m. experience he had ever had.
Hotch looked away and sat at the counter, waiting patiently for the waitress to meander her way over to him. She finished wiping down the section of counter she had been working on and dropped the rag in a basket beneath the counter. Finally, she looked over at him.
20-24 year old girl, medium build, round face, brown eyes, umber skin, and dark black waves of hair. She shouldn’t be working alone at night, he thought. Not with a killer on the loose.
“What can I get for you?” She asked, all but rolling her eyes. Her name tag said “Marisa”.
“Just a coffee please.” He said quietly.
“Black?”
He nodded.
As she went across the room to fill up a mug, he took a moment to revel in the peace he rarely got to feel while on a case.
The soft lighting and low music was almost comforting, in an odd way. He took a deep breath and slowly exhaled.
Marisa set the mug of steaming coffee in front of him. “Just brewed a new pot, so you’re lucky.”
“Thanks-”
The jingling of the door interrupted him.
“Marisa, darling!” A feminine voice cooed.
The waitress had a look of annoyance flash across her face before she quickly covered and plastered on a smile.
“Julie, welcome in. Go ahead and take your usual booth. I’ll get you a coffee and… I’m so sorry sweetheart, what’s your name again?”
“Y/N. I’ll have orange juice, please.”
At the mention of her name Hotch looked over his shoulder. Y/N was dressed in a pair of plaid pajama pants and an oversized hoodie. Her shoulders were hunched and as she sat down in the both, she immediately curled into the corner, like it was supporting her. Dark circles hung under her eyes and as he watched, she put a hand up to her mouth to hide a yawn.
It was early Thursday morning. And unless there was something going on that he didn’t know about, she had school in four hours. What was she doing up?

Amelia Tarley had her back towards the New Gods. The Sept had secede to be a place of comfort. Once all her family was gone she pulled up her hood and headed into the garden. Today it was empty and for that she was grateful. H/c fell around her face, obscuring the girl. From around her neck she pulled a heavy iron key. Looking around to check, Amelia plunged it into a keyhole in the ground. With a click the secret door was open. Ameila grunted as she forced open the trap door. Carefully she slipped inside, one hand on the door. With some difficulty, she had a lamp in her hand, stabilized herself on the stairs. Down she went, one step at a time. The steps were not damp, but years of wear mean the once prominent form of the steps were worn down. Finally her feet hit the dirt ground and she padded down the hallway.
At the end was a wooden door. It was so dilapidated that there was no need to unlock it. Faintly one could see a white Weirwood tree painted onto the pealing wood. With a light push it opened onto a small room.
Y/n, Ameila Tarley's daughter, eyes the needle as it slid between two pieces of thread. You had been lucky. The first few months had been easy on you. But at the sixth month your belly expanded alarmingly. The maester on hand told you that it was normal. Sometimes a woman will not show until later on in the pregnancy. Exploring had been halted as walking had become somewhat difficult. Thankfully all your dresses had been made to accommodate the belly. It seemed Alys Rivers was aware beforehand of your pregnancy. The thought unsettled you. Even Prince Aemond and Ellyn had not been aware. Servants gossip perhaps?
The Gold thread was delicate between your fingers. All alone in this great big tower you felt at peace. One might think that being away from the glittering court of Casterly Rock to the bleakness of Harrenhal would make you sad. On the contrary you were more at peace than you had been in months. No eyes on you, no judging husband or insolent mistresses. Just you and the baby. There was just two individuals you saw frequently, Marisa and Alys. Marisa was a young willowy woman with heaps of brown hair. She was to be your maid. Alys had taken what you felt to be an unusual amount of interest. Frequently she had asked how you slept, at and whether the babe was well. It was just so strange.
Alys entered the room with a steaming pot of mulled wine. She placed it next you and looked at the result of hard labor. "A family tree." This familiarity might have earned her a rebuke. But Alys held some sort of power that made such comments feel unwarranted. "Yes." You flattened the fabric to show long, thin lines of gold connecting names. You had just gotten to your mothers name, Amelia Tarley, an archer situated underneath. Seeing her name, Alys had a look of frank curiosity. Green eyes drifted up to another name,
"That is a northern house." Alys Rivers commented. "Yes, the Reeds...." Trailing off, it hit you that your First Men heritage had never concerned you before. Your mother had been a Tarley, and her mother before had hailed from house Reed. The northerners had always seemed so alien to you that it never crossed your thought their blood flowed through those same veins. Your right hand traced the black thread. House Reed, like most other Northern houses fought for Rhaenyra. Those who were close in blood were your sworn enemies. How would your grandmother Laura Reed feel about you taking the side of her houses enemies? Although few could chose their marriages your belly curled in on itself.
"Do you know the words of house Reed?" Alys Rivers sat down in front of you. Any other time you might have been offended. But your thoughts lingered on old lessons. The Starks went by "Winter Is Coming". The Boltons went by "Our Blades Are Sharp". But other then that no other came to mind. It was embracing really, you knew the names and mottos of every house in The Reach. But outside of any prominent family in Kings Landing you were completely ignorant. "They swear by ice and fire"." Cryptic words. A shiver passed through you.
Tumblr media
An old book you had pillaged from the library lay open. It was late and hardly a soul stirred (although some certainly still did). The candle light flickered illuminating old parchment scribed a century ago. You flipped through the pages until they landed on house Reed, signified by its telltale lizard.
House Reed is situated in the Neck, making it the most southern of all the northern houses. They have ruled from there since the Marsh Kings defeat thousands of years before the conquest (the exact date is unknown). They make their oaths by the words "Ice and Fire".
It was the oddest name. Was the motto in reference to an old grudge? You continued to read.
There are no contemporary accounts as to why House Reed chose there exact words. However members of their houses insist it is to remind Westeros of The Others.
The Others, a northern superstition. Though this was hardly the most wild northern superstition. They believed in all sorts of things. With a thump the book was placed aside. The baby had given a kick and you winced. "Hey." You said quietly. With a puff you blew out the candle and laid back on fluffed up pillows. Hands rested on a belly whose occupant was suddenly very active. You could almost not believe it. Motherhood had always been a woman's duty but every time the babe turned it felt unreal. For everyone else this was the heir to Casterly Rock, but to you this babe was previous, whether male or female. A safe delivery was all you asked for. Even if it was a girl she would still be important. You thought to your fate after the birth. Where would you go next? Casterly Rock was an option. Or would they make you go back to the Red Keep? It was not as if you had a choice in the matter. You were not some great lady who could call on loyal bannermen and family for defense. What if they separated you from the baby?! That outcome was not unlikely. At nineteen you were still young and would likely be remarried. Ellyn may even convince them to do so, out of resentment for her continuing bareness. A hand touched your belly.
You flipped through the page until a terrifying face leapt out at you. Alarmed and curious, you flipped back. In ink were rotting corpses walking eerily along the snow. At least you pictured them walking in an ungainly fashion. Images of sickly arms swaying back and forth like branches on a tree came to mind. Empty eyes with no signs of life. Gaping mouths with the stench of death on them. A thrill of horror passed through and you dared to read.
White Walkers. No man and perhaps even the Gods do not know where these creatures hail from. In the Dark Night they came to claim the lives of every man and woman in Westeros. Gods know they could even have taken the world. The Great Wall was erected and brave men stand watching. But they may come again.
The passage was short. Nevertheless your mind raced at the thought of dead corpses ravaging Westeros. Furiously you put the book away. This was ridiculous. Of course white walkers did not exist. What, did talking trees and fairies exist too? No. You were being silly.
But for the first time your dreams were filled, not with blood, but a cold landscape. And a woman with h/c flittered in and out.
Tumblr media
Your ladies would arrive any day now. For that you were grateful. On the day they were to arrive a young man no older than yourself raced into Harrenhal, breathless. Everyone had been breaking their fast, a usually dull affair. The tense silence was broken when the double doors were unceremoniously thrown open and a boy staggered through. "Your Grace." He was winded. One of the women stood up and filled a glass. After several gulps he places it down, a line of red down his chin. "Your mother had me come. Your Grace, Kings Landing has fallen."
Tumblr media
No one dared move. Everyone stayed in the hall, awaiting their fate. Was the war won for Rhaenyra? If so what did that mean for you? And what of your ladies, had they been waylaid, or a worse fate? Soon tales came in. Thankfully the King and the children had fled. But it seemed the women were not important enough as Dowager Queen Alicent and Queen Helaena were prisoners. At least the children were safe. Rhaenyra was not a merciful, not after the loss of her sons. Vaeron's screams invaded your ears. A tic developed in your right hand and soon that arms was full of pins and needles. Your left hand came up to your hair. Nervously you played with the ends.
An hour later another came, this man one of Rhaenyra's. He was younger than you, eyes anxiously flitted between everyone. He was dressed in Targaryen black and red, you wondered if that was wise. Prince Aemond stood looming over the boy. The youth quaked beneath Prince Aemond. The boy pulled out a scroll with shaking fingers. "Read it. Aemond ordered." The boy stammered and then red. "Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, First of Her Name and rightful Queen pf Westeros commands Aemond Targaryen to submit himself to the Iron Throne, without the company of Vaehgar. We will have you know that the Dowager Queen and Princess Helaena-" "Queen Helaena." Prince Aemond snarled. A borderline hysteric gasp left the boy. He looked like to faint. You did not blame him. "-are in our custody and will suffer the Queen's wrath if Prince Aemond does not come before Her Grace. Lady Y/n Tyrell will also be brought before the Queen to suffer judgment for the death of her son Prince Vaeron." Everything before you was blurry, the ground beneath solid as water. E/c eyes rolled into the back of your head as a scream filled the room.
You remembered nothing after that.
Tumblr media
Rivers of blood danced around you in torrents. It ripped at your very being, threatening to sweep you away. Blood ran down your body, from the chest to the legs. Running down your body in a great morbid waterfall. A shrill cry was lost in the howl of the storm. It pressed in from all sides while pooling at your feet. You were reduced under this storm, weak against its power. Standing there with the certainty of someone doomed you allowed the walls to close in.
A cold towel lay across your forehead. As your senses came back you felt a warm feather bed underneath. The roar of a crackling fire. The howl of a storm outside. Then the sensations of your body awakened. Everything was sore and your head pounded. A slight sting could be felt on your right cheek. The first thing to move were your fingers. A flash of cold shuddered through them. Opening your eyes was a hard task. Then you felt fingers graze your face. Suddenly opening your eyes was not such a hard task. Alys Rivers hovered over you, jet black hair falling like a waterfall around you. Her piercing green eyes regarded you, seeking out something. "My Prince, she wakes." A creak came from the foot of your bed and Prince Aemond Targaryen stood up. "Lady Y/n?" He sounded uncertain, the title not coming out naturally.
"Well, she certainly caused a scene back there." Ellyn, how wonderful. Alys Rivers helped you sit up slightly, propped up by pillows. "Lady Y/n!" Lady Mari darted forward, her normally immaculate hair askew. "Your here....all of you?" Something dark passed over Lady Mari's face but it quickly passed. A painful throb passed through your head. With a hiss you lay back down. "Everyone is here. Lady Clarissa and Dara are in their rooms right now. Prince Jaecerion will be back in a moment." Your heart leapt at the thought of Jaecerion. It may not have been love but there was certainly affection.
The letter. Anxiety set in as the words came back. Rhaenyra Targaryen wanted you dead. "The letter." "What letter?" Lady Dara looked to Prince Aemond. Prince Aemond's eyes closed and his fist tightened. "Lady Y/n recived a letter from my sister. It seems Rhaenyra means to take revenge for the death of her son." "But that is hardly the lady's fault." Oh how comforting the words were. How you wished those words were true. But Lady Joan's words had prevailed. Shame, regret and a whirl of emotions passed through. "Don't you start crying. Now that woman's wrath will fall on us for your folly." Everyone looked to Ellyn. "I beg your pardon?" An astonished Lady Mari regarded Ellyn. "Oh please. Her wrath would have fallen here regardless. Have you forgotten your own husband slew Lucerys?" This only fueled the flames of Ellyn's rage. She stalked towards you. A palpable vengeance emanated from her very soul. In that moment you knew if Ellyn had the chance she would run a knife right through you. Even Prince Aemond stepped back. "Do you think you're safe? That a child protects you?" Her deep crimson dress rippled as step by step she came closer. In that moment she look almost as terrifying as Alys Rivers. Tall, with flowing dark hair and eyes that seemed to light up with a fire of their own. But unlike Alys who's eyes were hard to read Ellyn's were easy. Hatred.
"And what will you do?" Not one to back down from a confrontation, you fully sat up. No one stooped you, too transfixed. "Because one day something bad will happen. And when that happens your will wish you had never crossed-." "Quiet." Now their eyes landed on you. A lady challenging a princess. Every part of your body ached. Anger prevailed as you stood up on shaky legs. The train of your gown trailed behind you, rippling over old stone. Light illuminated the two figures standing. Yet nothing compared to the hate illuminating Y/n and Ellyn's eyes. Their wrath was more hateful than when Balerion's flames smote upon Harrenhal all those centuries ago. It carried malice akin to all the tormented souls that paced these old halls. An enchantment had been cast over Prince Aemond, Alys Rivers and Lady Mari. Mute horror dwelled on the prince's and lady's face, Alys River's was hidden in shadow. "And if you were to do that, what would happen? Do you simply think I will leave such a challenge unanswered?" Ellyn sneered. "What would you do then, Lady Y/n?" You stepped closer. Her sickly breath was upon your face. "It is not what would I do. It is what have I done. Did you think all those slights went unpunished?" Ellyn let lose a derisive laugh. But you waited. When she realized you did not continue she stopped. Because there was a cold look you bore, one that boded ill for her. "Have you wondered why you have never fallen with child?" Lady Mari gasped. Prince Aemond inhaled sharply. But none of those reactions mattered. All that existed was Ellyn and the pain you meant to cause. "You allowed a woman you hated near you. Allowed me to handle your robes, drinks and cakes. I reigned freely over every morsel that entered your mouth. How easy it would have been to simply slip something in." There was nothing for Ellyn to laugh about this time. Nor anyone else but you. Ellyn swayed precariously on her feet. You thought she meant to lunge at you. Back she went. Ellyn collapsed to the cold hard ground.
Tumblr media
You never thought yourself a cruel woman. Growing up with the Maiden and Mother in mind such leanings should be crushed. But the past few months had fed such notions. Different being now called out to you. These voices were not so benevolent. They told you to maime, hurt. The despair of Ellyn tasted sweeter than any pastry. More nourishing than any meat. You had a greater need for it than life itself. You sat alone in your room. Ellyn had been hurried away. The rest had left, although Alys Rivers had asked to stay. Prince Aemond, not having it, ordered her to depart. So with reluctance Alys Rivers obeyed, but not before casting you once last glance. There was appraisal in her eyes. Then they left you.
You reclined on a chair by the window. One hand absentmindedly stroking your belly. The other rested on the windowsill. A full moon ruled the sky tonight. The woods bellow looked like something savage and mysterious on the very boarders of civilization. Taking a deep breath you tasted the nighttime air. Even up here you could smell every tree. Pine, birch, aspen, spruce, oak, and another scent that was familiar but whose name escaped you. Little whispers drifted up to your perch high above. You wondered what was in those woods. Perhaps one day you might like to take a look. There was something that drew you to that forest.
Prince Aemon stormed in, you had not expected this. There was such a stark look of rage upon his face that had he looked at you like that a year ago there would have been tears. Now there was only a lurch and dulled feelings. It was like looking at something through a frosted window that was once clear. You could see what was on the other side but it was blurred, the true scope a mere shadow of what it once was. No tears were shed, although your face did heat up, but not out of bashfulness or guilt. You remembered a time when you had begged Prince Aemond in that amoury. How weak you had been then. Your pride ached from that memory, throbbing like an open wound. So all you did was coldly stare at him.
Prince Aemond did not speak for a moment. A few time he opened his mouth, unable to find the right words. The shadow of a smile ghost your lips. "That.....that was-" "Cruel? It is no less than what she has done to me." If he excepted remorse then Prince Aemond had come to the wrong person. You relaxed against your chair, eyes coolly regarding the Prince. Once again Prince Aemond seemed to loose his words. It was an odd sight truly. The last time Prince Aemond had behaved with anything less than certainty had been during childhood. When he had two eyes instead of one, had no dragon and clung to his mothers skirts. In those says you had been his greatest friend, always by his side. Now all these years later the two of you stood in opposition instead of side by side. He only had one eye with a slightly gaunt look to him. His hair hung limply about the Prince's pale face. You on the other hand regarded him with little affection in your eyes. Red robes flowed out around you. If one had walking in at that moment they might have thought you a queen. Straight backed, an imperious disposition and looking at the Prince as one would to those beneath them.
"Who am I, Prince Aemond?" "Y/n." "No. I am Y/n Lannister. Dowager Lady of House Lannister and you are far to familiar in your behavior towards me. You will leave this room so that I can get properly dressed." Prince Aemond looked as if you had slapped him across the face. But he did as you bid and a moment later a maid came in. "I will have one of mine." The maid left and the Prince shot you one last look before leaving. Eventually Lady Mari entered bearing a crimson gown. She dressed you and your hair was plated into a braid. Prince Aemond only entered once you were prepared and Lady Mari was dismissed. Prince Aemond decided to side across from you. This pleased you. He should treat you as you were, a great lady of the realm, not some little girl he could chastise. "I understand your grievances these past few months. The war has been hard on us all. But you must understand my wife has been out of sorts as of late." You did not care. "That does not concern me. I expected to be treated as befits my station. Yet Princess Ellyn spreads rumors and throws mud on my reputation." Prince Aemond's fist clenched ever so slightly. "I am aware that my wife has been tackles as of late-" "Tackles is not quite the word I would use." Prince Aemond's first came down, right onto the arm of his chair. You jumped back when a resounding "crack" echoed across the room. There was a fire in his eyes that suddenly frightened you. He stood up, looming over you. In one stride Prince Aemond's hands seized the arms of your chair. His face was inches from your own.
"Your spite, My Lady, is quite something. I never would have thought it of you." A shaky breath shook your body which had suddenly run cold. Prince Aemond was not done. "I would turn you out after what has transpired. If it was not for my mothers remaining fondness for you I would." You wished you could say this was little more than words. Pain came roaring back with a vengeance. A year ago, would Prince Aemond have spoken this way to you? The thin veneer of detachment you had worn was stripped away. Now you felt lesser than ever before. It was one thing for Ellyn to rage at you, quite another for it to be a former friend. "Then you are as fickle as I thought. Though I suppose that is a common quality of a kinslayer." Prince Aemond shot back as if you in turn had struck him. Ragged breaths escaped him. There was anger in both your eyes. Suddenly Prince Aemond darted towards and seized you by the arms. "Aemond!" You cried out. His grip was bruising as he hauled you out of the chair. The babe in your belly lurched with his force. The wind was immediately knocked out of you. "Let go of me!" You snarled, attempting to wriggle out of his grasp. But the Prince was stronger. "I will not have you calling me kinslayer. Not you." The last words stumbled out of his mouth. They carried a weight that caused you to pause. Your eyes met.
The momentary tableau was broken when you broke away. Gone was the coolness of your eyes, replaced by hot tears. "Leave." It was all you could say. You wanted to be left alone. But Prince Aemond ignored you. "I never asked for this." He said. The momentary anger was gone, replaced by a look of utter defeat. "And I never asked for this either. And yet you discarded me as if I were less than nothing. So do as you have done these past months and leave me." Yet here he still stood. "Did you ever think I wanted to?" Prince Aemond took a step towards you, though this time not in anger. "I doubt it bothered you." Anger clenched your belly when he had the audacity to look hurt. You would rather he be awful to you. It would have made it so much easier on your consciousness. "You know I have duties." He said. And it hurt because it was true, there was little he could have done. It was also not his fault you loved him and he did not. That was the worst part. He had as much freedom as yourself and the guilt suddenly weighed on you. But your hurt was still great and as so often your emotions took precedence. This time around your pain won out. "Please, just go." The conversation was cut short. Perhaps if things had gone different your life would have gone a different way. Not this time around.
Prince Aemond finally left. He was no longer glowering down at you but diminished, exhausted, and looking older than his twenty years. You watched him go and only then did you break down a weep.
Tumblr media
At least you had your ladies. Lady Dara especially has a joy, for she always had gossip and enjoyed wine and sweets. Although you would have to abstained from drinking the cakes were free for taking. Lady Clarissa had become very quiet and even though you attempted to comfort her she abstained from divulgence. From what you heard Ellyn was still bedridden. Apparently your words had done Ellyn quite the turn. "Her skin is an unpleasant hue and some of her piss is..." "Is what?" You demanded impatiently. The maid leaned in close. "Is black, My Lady." Had your words truly done so much damage? Although it should be mentioned Ellyn had not look good before her collapse. If this had been another woman you would have felt sorry. The young ladies of Ellyn's retinue were no longer so bold. They took care to avoid you these days. Perhaps they were mindful for the future. A future where your power could preside over their destinies. Now, they might have realized that you might determine their futures. King Aegon was unlikely to have any more children, and if Ellyn died then Prince Aemond would be free to marry. As Y/n Tyrell, a relative of the Tyrell family might not be seen as a suitable bride to the second prince, the Dowager Lady of Casterly Rock might be seen in a different light. The notion did come to mind. Once the idea of marrying Prince Aemond might have excited you, now it was a mere speculation.
There were more pressing matters. Rhaenyra Targaryen had vowed to kill you. Even in this great place you were not safe. Rhaenyra could take Syrax and fly up to Harrenhal, doing what her ancestor Aegon the Conqueror had done over a hundred years ago. But no wings echoed in the sky. Soon, you would know why.
Tumblr media
"Go back!" The words were howling in your mind. Between sleeping and waking the voices howling in your room. A burning rubbed against your wrists, the babe turned in your belly. There was only darkness. No images of blood or trees. Only the encompassing darkness. The voices were telling you to turn back. And suddenly Weirwood trees smeared in blood burst up in front of you. And now out of the darkness you were thrust back into that bloody forest. It surrounded you, seeking to drag you into its depths. A great bell went off and it went still. A darkness fell over the forest, a great full moon rising. A large Weirwood tree started to move, twisting inwards onto itself. You staggered back as it morphed into a little person. Except it was not a person. Smaller than an adult, its skin was green and eyes wide. All seeing, the creature gazed upon you. "Time must turn."
"My Lady!" Lady Clarissa had shaken you awake. The sound of shutters being slammed closed shook the room. "What were those shutters doing open!' Lady Mari's irate voice made your head throb. You sat up with the help of Lady Clarissa. She pressed a cup of some barley smelling liquid to your lips. With a sigh you reclined back onto the pillows. Lady Mari stormed out only to come back in a moment later, Alys Rivers on her heel. "This....this fool opened the shutters!" You had never seen Lady Mari so angry. Alys Rivers did not seem perturbed. "Fresh air is good." Alys Rivers justified. "Not for pregnant women!" "My Lady, I recon I know more about pregnancy than you." Alys Rivers nonchalantly retorted. "I am well Lady Mari." Lady Mari looked ready to argue, but seemed to think better of it. So she relented and dismissed herself. Lady Clarissa busied herself with a wooden box of herbs she had brought from Casterly Rock. Alys Rivers seemed intrigued, for she advanced forward and peered in. "You have a good collection. Who taught you?" 'My mother." Replied Lady Clarissa. You looked up at the canopy overhead. What would your mother have taught you had she lived? Rarely in recent years had you thought of Amelia Tarley. She had given you life but had been little more than a shadow. If you died in the childbed, as so many women did, would your child think of you? Even Queens fell in this most womanly of battles. Queen Alyssa bad been cut open, as had Queen Aemma. Even if you survived the child might perished, like with Rhaenyra who accounts said was ill after. Would you be lucky? Childbirth had no remedy, so ironclad security of your safety. The place of birth would likely be here, in these haunted halls. This place claimed the lines of all those who ruled here. At least this was not your castle so perhaps the ghosts would leave you alone.
But ghosts were not the only otherworldly things that stalked the halls. And Alys Rivers had no intention of leaving you alone.
Tumblr media
Despite having your ladies back Alys River and Marisa stayed on in service. Marisa remained hard working and Alys Rivers being mysterious as ever. When you woke from those odd dreams Alys Rivers was by the fire. It was waking from one of these dreams that grave new came. At the hour of the wolf you were woken. In your dream little green children darted in and out between trees. Sometimes you were able to make out what they said. Their favourites were "turn back" and "time". When your eyes opened the fading imprint of a tree slowly disappeared as the waking world summoned you. Gravely Lady Mari approached you. Thoughts ran through your mind. Who had died? For someone surely had. "Casterly Rock was invaded. They managed to repel the Ironborn from the castle but they have sacked Lannisport. Two thousand are dead, hundreds of women have been abducted. The late Lord Lannister's uncle was killed as was his (Lord Lannister) mistress Lady Redwyne with her youngest daughter." The words stumbled out and you were left stunned. Thousands dead or abducted. Although there was no sadness for Lady Redwyne you pitied the babe. Your deceased husbands youngest bastard had only been a little girl. What monster could kill a child?
"Is there any word from Kings Landing?" "The Usurper Rhaenyra is on poorer terms with Ser Corlys Velaryon. But they still hold firm." You threw the covers off you and picked up a silk robe. "Thank you. May I have a moment?" Lady Mari took that as dismissal and curtsied. You did not dismiss Alys Rivers. Going to the window you looked down. At the seventh month your belly had expanded still further. The baby was now kicking. The first time had been when Alys Rivers had been helping you out of the tub. When her thin pale hand rested on your belly the baby kicked out. The pair of you stared in wonder. Since then the babe was busy. It brought relief that the baby was at least healthy. Worries about a stillbirth seemed more distant these days.
You thought of all the mothers who had lost their children, either through death or kidnapping. How women bore the loss was beyond you. And frankly, you never wanted to. "You are concerned." Alys Rivers appeared by your side. The two of you stood there looking down at the forest bellow. "I am. I pity the mothers who have lost their children." Alys Rivers tensed and now you wished the topic had never been broached. They said Alys Rivers had nursed children. In order to do she she must have been with child. But never once had a child been seen. You wondered, if Alys Rivers, had lost children, how she bore it. The desire to ask was there. But to ask such a question felt cruel.
"Would you like to read, My Lady." It was less of a question, as often you asked Alys Rivers to grab one book or another. You gave her leave and called for Marisa to bring food. Shortly later you were curled in a chair eating and reading away. This book was one of the older books in the castles library. It had come all the way from Winterfell as a book by a Stark lord. It was on older things that the sept might consider borderline heretical. Fascinated, you flipped through the pages observing every symbol. Someone had left in a bookmark. Curiously, you went to that page. On its surface was the drawing of a circle, a carved face in its center. Engravings of symbols marked the outside of the circle. According to ancient northmen this symbol represented time. Once there had even been a God created by the northmen, a difference from their many nameless Gods. Of course it fell out of fashion. But the symbol had been used by certain houses, to remind those of the shortness of time and anything related to it. The words "Ice and Fire" came to mind. You still had not worked out what it meant. But they stuck with you.
Tumblr media
Prince Aemond left with Ser Criston Cole, Ellyn's health was spiraling and your due date drew closer. Another month passed in tense silence. At eight months you were so close to giving birth. Your room was getting ready for the birth. Several midwives and been brought in along with two wet-nurses. A maester arrived to give advice along with a septa. You spent most days of laying in bed in a crowded room. There was not a moment you spent alone. Lady Mari and Lady Dara spent time sewing by the fire. Lady Clarissa and Alys Rivers hovered over herbs, the septa giving them dirty looks. "Herbs accomplish not what the Seven provide." Was her favourite saying. Once a day the maester would come and ask questions, but was not allowed to touch you. The three midwives presided with Lady Mari over the arrangements. They said all you had to do was lay back and rest. But restlessness stirred within you. Being forced to stay in this room nearly drove you mad.
"The mother comforts all good women. She gives them strength through their trials." The septa read out of the Seven Stars. Tired, you laid on the bed. These words were memorized by heart as you learned them at Elinor's knee. Once they had meant something, and you wished they still did. So much of you had been lost this year. The girl from Kings Landing was dead. Left behind was a tired woman who could no longer find comfort in the Seven.
Despite you reclusiveness words from the outside world still made their way in. Prince Aemond had set the Riverlands ablaze with Vaehgar. Lady Baela Targaryen had been taken prisoner by King Aegon who chased her on dragon back, killing her dragon. You never would have thought it of the King. Lazy and given to vice, King Aegon had never been one for formative action. But he had regained some strength and broken both legs in the battle with Lady Baela. Now she languished in prison, dragonless. "Daemon must be frantic." You thought. It gave you some pleasure to think that Daemon was wracked with fear for his child. After what he had put Helaena through, what he had put you through, there was no pity left for him. Not that you bore personal ill will towards Lady Baela, but your hatred for the Rouge Prince was great.
"The whole realm is in flames." Lady Clarissa looked up from her work. She was pale with the hue of someone plagued with insomnia. It alarmed you how haggard she looked these days. Something had happened yet no one would reveal anything. You did notice Alys Rivers stuck by her side. You supposed Alys Rivers had the ability to ingratiate herself towards others. Some people were like that. 🤍
Time slowly passed by, the time of the birth came. But for Ellyn it was the hour of her death.

The babe would be ready soon. The ninth month was upon you and the castle held its breath. Not just for you but Ellyn Baratheon. By now the woman was throwing up black bile. You wondered if it was poison. Who hated Ellyn enough to kill her? It was worrying that there were those who might point the finger at you. Many new the rivalry that had transpired. When she died there would be those who would think it was you. Your fears were told to Lady Mari who told you not to pay them any mind. But you wondered if she was only saying that to keep you calm. You might have gone to Prince Aemond but your pride was great. Exhaustion had also greatly depleted your strength. You could hardly get up much less run about.
That night you slept peacefully in bed. Lady Clarissa slept beside you that night. A midwife rested in a chair by the fire. The last thing you saw before rest was the full moon, and the last thing you heard was the rustling of leaves. The last thing you felt was the stirring of the babe in your womb.
You waded through a sea of blood, dead butterflies floating on the surface. Their wings had been blue, but was died red. On you was a heavy green cape. It weighed you down. You stooped down and collected a butterfly. It lay there still. The blood swirled before you and Helaena rose from its depths. "You will change your coat." Then she was gone, back under the waves. It splashed your green cloak, staining it with unsightly splotches. On you walked through the blood. Weirwood trees stood every few feet. Faces stuck out at you, their faces unreadable. Looking down at your wrists you noticed thin lines of blood on them. The ground underneath you quaked and you stumbled forward. Into a tree you went. When you looked ahead the symbol of time was engraved on the bark. The red blood from your wrists stained it red. Thin trails of blood ebbed into the wood. It dripped down, your gaze following. Between your legs was a pool of blood.
The pain woke you. With a cry you alerted Lady Clarissa and the midwife. Lady Clarissa pulled back the sheet and gasped. Blood was pooling between your legs. Your body was both hot and cold, a deep ache that could have crimpled anyone emanated where the baby was. Alys Rivers suddenly burst in followed by the other two midwives. Lastly Lady Mari and Lady Dara rushed in. You pulled you to your feet and quickly changed your nightgown. With a midwife on each side they walked you up and down. Meanwhile the sheets on your bed was changed. When Lady Mari attempted to close the shutters you cried out "don't!". All day you were forced to labor. The only thing keeping you sane was the frantic rustling of the branches. Voices whispered to you through the pain, pushing you onwards. It carried you onwards to night. The sun set and you wondered if this would be your last sunset. Where you doomed never to see it rise again? They finally allowed you onto the bed. "She is ready. Get the chair." Hoisted off the bed, they had you on a birthing chair, legs spread. Gritting your teeth you bore down. Blood spurted onto the ground. "Almost there." Alys Rivers was beside you. Her hand rested on your arm. "It hurts." You were breathless and exhausted. "I know. But you have done so well. Just a bit longer. Your mother has done this. Laura Reed was brave. And so will you." A scream tore through you and a great force was pushed through you. Leaning back, you groaned as the weight which had been borne for months was lifted. A thin cry tore through the air as the hour of the ghosts came. Alys Rivers helped you sit up and the reality sunk in. You were a mother. Tears welled in your eyes as the newborn, your baby, cried and squirmed in the midwifes arms. She looked up at you, looking nearly as exhausted but happy. "It's a boy. You have a son My Lady."
You cradled your son, all the ladies crowded around the witness the first breaths of the new Lord of Casterly Rock. As this new boys life begun, Ellyn Baratheon's drew to a close.
Notes: I'm back! I had to take a break due to being sick, school and having writers block. I am also making a few edits for continuity sakes, but nothing too extreme that will change the story. But now that this month is finally drawing to a close scheduling is back on track so expect more frequent updates. Part two for this series is now being worked on so that it will be ready right after part one. Merry Christmas /Happy Holidays/ Happy New Year everyone!

I followed Niccolò out of Brando de Santis' house after the discussion and the short fight with Damiano. Even though I don't really like him, nobody followed him, not even his best friend to calm him down.
So it was my job. Even though he keeps harassing me and making fun of my body and other parts of me, I have to calm him down now. Because although Niccolò looks like an angel, he makes a big mess of things that provoke him.
"Niccolò, wait!" I shouted down the street while trying to run faster without falling off. My shoes with a heel and my short skirt made the whole thing worse.
The streets of Rome are now pitch dark, it's also after midnight. But it's very hot, which means you're still sweating without any sun above you.
Niccolò turned round when he stopped to see who had called him. He took a closer look at me when he realised I was running out of breath towards him. He furrowed his eyebrows as I arrived in front of him and fixed my hair.
"What the hell are you doing here? Get lost." He said still aggressively and turned round when I grabbed his shoulder and turned him slightly towards me. I looked at him wide-eyed as I saw he had tears in his eyes.
"Nicc, are you crying?" I said quietly and reassuringly as he slapped my hand away from his shoulder and rubbed his eyes. "What are you saying? Fuck off to the others." I looked at him more closely as I walked closer to him so that our chests were touching.
He looked down as my hands went to his face. I touched both his cheeks as I looked into his hurt eyes. My mouth was slightly open as I pushed his head up towards me.
He took my hand in his and slowly put it back towards me. He looked deep into my eyes as I saw his eye turn blue from the fight. You couldn't see it from a distance because of the darkness. "Niccolò what's wrong with you?" I said quietly as I saw him take a step back from me. I was still looking at him when he fixed his hair with his hand and exhaled loudly.
"What are you doing here?" He asked me annoyed, "I thought you hated me." He said with conviction. I kept my mouth open as I looked at him questioningly. "Me? You insult me day after day and go on about my appearance every day. Niccolò do you know what you're doing to a person? I'm here because I have a good heart."
He bit his inner cheek as he looked up annoyed. I exhaled in horror at his behaviour and took a step closer to him as I held my finger to his chest. "I'm here to help you because no one else cares about you. Not even your best friend. I'm waiting for the day when you realise that your great friends don't give a shit about you."
I said angry by now and saw him looking down at me. But his look was different. He was no longer angry, he was desperate. Desperate, for me.
Niccolo grabbed my neck up to my jaw and I flinched at his quick reaction. He exhaled deeply as his other hand reached my waist towards my ass and pulled me tightly against him. I raised my eyebrows in surprise as he pressed his lips to mine.
I was shocked and didn't return the kiss. He interrupted him more quickly and cleared his throat as he took a step back. "What was that?" I said startled and slapped his hand away from my waist. "First you fuck me up and now you kiss me? Make up your mind."
He exhaled in annoyance as he held my neck in his hand again, "don't you realise I've had the hots for you the whole time?" I exhaled loudly, "Shit, I'm insulting you to get away from you. But it's getting harder and harder with those fucking little skirts where you can see through everything. Or your hair that you always let down like that. Like you know what turns me on. the other day in the changing room with your fucking white lingerie" he said aggressively and came closer and closer to me, his nose almost touching mine.
"Nic, I never took it that way-" I tried to say but he interrupted me with an aggressive kiss. I kissed him back and felt a euphoric feeling.
I held his hair in a kiss and pressed myself closer to him as I felt his part rubbing against me. I moaned in the kiss as he moved his hand away from my waist and reached between my legs with his hand. I spread my legs further apart as he kissed aggressively with his mouth and tongue to my neck. "Nic..." I moaned and took in the surroundings, we were in the middle of the street. But it didn't matter, we couldn't stop this.
He felt my already wet pants and tickled me through my panties. I held onto his head tighter as I rolled my eyes from all the stimulation. I felt every single finger he moved down on me, teasing me. He kissed me more aggressively, biting my neck full of hickeys as I tried to rub myself against him better.
I was like a different person and so was he. He reached into his trouser pocket while his mouth found my mouth again and opened his car next to him with the car key. Meanwhile, he pushed my pants aside and rubbed his already wet fingers inside me. I bit my lips as he took my hand and seduced me to his car.
