i love your reverse batgirl au!! do you mind writing more about them?
Okay so after going through the post I realized I wrote it at 2 am, so I'm going to simply rewrite it and then add more if that's okay <3
AU where Bruce adopts Barbara, Steph, Cass and Harper instead of the batboys - Batdaughters: Origins
Would like to start by saying: Damian never exists; Bruce doesn’t sleep with Talia because he's aroace in this universe no I don't make the rules he just is
Barbara Gordon is adopted by Jim Gordon after his brother and his sister in law, Barbara’s parents, die (as per canon.) When she’s six, he's killed by the Joker, who forces Barbara to watch. Bruce is too late to save Gordon and puts the blame for his death on himself, so he tries to atone by giving Barbara a home. Raising a daughter keeps him busy so he doesn’t visit Haley’s circus when it visits Gotham. Dick’s parents fall to the floor, and instead of Bruce, the Court of Owls take him in.
When Babs is 16, Bruce adopts Stephanie Brown. Steph’s father is Cluemaster but he’s put in Arkham early in her childhood. Stephanie’s mother is unable to overcome her addiction to pharmaceuticals (unlike in canon where she does overcome this) and this ends in her death. 11 year old Stephanie runs away from her social worker and ends up finding the batmobile in an alley. She hides under the car and her social worker passes by, but when Batman arrives she jumps out to avoid getting run over. He tries to take her back to foster care but she throws a brick at him and runs. Bruce decides to adopt her once he finds out her father is cluemaster, and when he takes her for waffles she agrees to ‘let him’ adopt her.
Harper Row is taken away from her alcoholic father when she’s 9 and is the only kid to actually end up with Bruce in a normal way. He’s officially a foster parent and she’s placed with him through the system. She tells Bruce that she has a brother, Cullen, who she hasn’t seen since being taken away from her father but Bruce is unable to figure out where he’d gone. Cullen was never registered in the foster care database and none of the workers that picked up Harper recalled there being another child.
When the Justice League encounters Lady Shiva a year later, she fights them and defeats Batman, but the combined forces of Wonder Woman and Superman force her capture and she’s questioned under the lasso. She tells them about her origin and that a man named David Cain had her biological daughter and was training her to be an assassin. Batman realizes that the daughter in question is still only 8, and adds her and David to his search for Cullen. He finds her being trained by David to be a ruthless killer and rescues her. He realizes that she’s mute and deadly and can’t grow up in a regular foster system so he takes her home with him.
Babs becomes Batgirl at 14, but is paralyzed at 17, a year after Steph joins the family. Then she takes the moniker oracle.
When Steph is older she doesn’t feel right taking on the batgirl name, so she becomes Robin. Steph and Bruce have a falling out when Bruce calls her reckless in the field and benches her so she distances herself from him and becomes Spoiler. She meets a kid named Tim in university who was emancipated from his parents when he was 16 and discovers that since he was a kid, he’s tried to follow batman and robin’s footsteps by fighting crime at night in a red domino and black clothes. Steph reveals that she was the Robin that Tim used to watch at night and takes him on as her partner, eventually training him to be a third Robin, one who was never trained by Batman: Red Robin.
At the same time, Harper spends years trying to find her brother, Cullen. She fights crime to find her brother without telling Bruce at first, taking on the codename Bluebird. When he finds out, Bruce takes her on as his partner, not his sidekick, which drives a wedge between her and Steph.
Cass had decided to live a normal life after having the choice taken away from her when she was young, but an attack on her school causes her to fight off a bunch of the rogue gallery to the point of near-death. She holds them off long enough for her school to evacuate and run. After she survives this, Barbara reaches out to her and tells her that if she ever wants it, the mantle of batgirl is there for her. Cass refuses it at first but takes it when she turns 15, deciding to train again, but this time to defend Gotham, and not kill. She becomes batgirl at 16.
Steph and Tim both join young justice and Babs was a part of the Teen Titans before being paralyzed.
When Bruce ‘dies’ for half a year, Cass gives the mantle of Batgirl to Steph and moves to Hong Kong to become Black Bat.
Harper moves in with Steph and befriends Tim, who believes that Bruce is alive. Nobody takes the mantle of Batman after Bruce’s ‘death.’
After he is rescued by Tim and Steph, Bruce returns to Gotham. Cass returns to be Black Bat and Steph goes back to being Spoiler, and Bruce and Steph finally reconcile.
They find out that Cullen was taken by the Court of Owls and turned into a Talon, and when they try to rescue him, they discover that a second Talon had taken a liking to him and was protecting him from the batfamily, seeing them as enemies.
So of course they take both Talons home. Bruce discovers that the second Talon is Dick Grayson and with Martian Manhunter’s help, they help them learn how to be human again.
Dick takes Cullen to live by themselves in a quiet area of Gotham, and Bruce leaves them be, knowing that they deserve to lead normal lives without continuing to be entangled in the batfamily. Only Harper visits.
At the same time, a new crime lord pops up, claiming to go by the red hood. Bruce fears another Joker situation and finds Red Hood to interrogate him and finds out that his name is Jason Todd. Jason, forced to work as a goon for two-face to earn money to support his mother, was a hostage of the Joker and beaten almost to death before Batman saved him, but he was too late to save Jason's mother. (we're ignoring the biological mother plot point here.) He wants to drive Batman to finally break his code and kill so that he’ll kill the Joker. After a fight between them that almost ends in Jason dying, Batman backs off and doesn’t turn him into the police. The Red Hood kills the Joker, but realizes that it didn't change anything. He almost turns the gun on himself but Bruce stops him. Bruce promises to leave him alone, acknowledging that Crime Alley is his territory, as long as he gives them information on a major trafficking ring in Gotham. Jason agrees and together they take the ring down.
After the Red Hood saves Cass from the collapse of a building, he and Cass strike up a tentative friendship. He becomes an anti-hero after sending the criminal underground into a civil war, ensuring the destruction of some of the larger crime families in Gotham. Then he becomes an ally of the batfamily, but still kills.
Duke's story is similar to canon except his parents are cured from the Joker Virus. He still joins the batfamily as the signal, and eventually joins the Outsiders team with Cass.
Send me asks if you want me to go into more detail with a part of this au!

Snowmen and Assassins - Older!Damian Wayne x Fem!Reader
Summary: This is Y/N’s first Christmas among the League of Assassins but a monastery of deadly assassins is maybe not the right place to celebrate this winter tradition.
Author’s note: Bat-Christmas Day 12 ;-) Damian in this story is highly inspired by Batman beyond! Damian as he took his grandfather’s place as leader of the League of Assassins. And I will fight anyone who doesn’t believe Adult Damian will be the most devoted boyfriend to ever exist. (#assassinprincecharming)
Tagged: 100% Fluff
Sitting at the candlelit desk that used to belong to his grandfather, working on a personal project that could not wait, Damian Wayne could hear the unclear yet outraged groans and growls of his counsellor – whose name was Zeh-Ro - echoing outside of the door. He was clearly angry but it was nothing new or surprising.     Lately, and especially since Damian’s reconciliation with his father and your arrival in the Himalayan monastery, the old white-haired man had taken the rude habit to question Damian’s every decision as leader of the League of Assassin in ways that were highly inappropriate for a man of his status. Of course this misplaced attitude was never welcomed or tolerated by the young leader, and each tantrums had all encountered either a stone-cold stoicism or a burning rage. A type of reaction Damian had inherited from his father, Bruce.             “This is highly unacceptable!” Damian sighed, fully aware that his bodyguard, Koru, would not be able to prevent Zeh-Ro from entering his private quarters any longer. “Let me see him!” The heavy wooden door suddenly burst open, making all the soft dancing flames shudder, almost in panic, as if they were aware of the incoming wrath. “What is wrong, Zeh-Ro?”   “This woman … This woman is a disgrace! How dares she?!” The red of his angry face was clashing with the whiteness of his dishevelled hair, a scarlet colour only Y/N and her light-hearted shenanigans could give him. “I’m sure whatever Y/N did it is not that terrible.” Damian declared with a discreet amused smirk. “Not that terrible? Not that terrible?” The old man repeated almost out of breath. “That woman has a knack of bringing shame to herself … and to ourselves … and to our cause. To you. She is a foreign child who knows nothing of our culture, nothing of our traditions. I said it before and I say it again. Her place is not here!” Damian put what he was doing in the drawer of his desk that he slammed almost violently and stood up. But not even his menacing eyes or his towering stature seemed to frighten Zeh-Ro who kept mumbling his anger at him. “Your grandfather would have never approved of her! The league does not approve of her! This silly infatuation needs to end and it needs to end now!”   “No.” Zeh-ro eyes widened suddenly. He had expected more that a single word. He had expected more consideration, even more anger. “No?” Damian didn’t bother to repeat and smoothly close the gap between him and his counsellor in an attempt to establish his undeniable authority on him.           “And from now on I would not tolerate you interfere in my privacy. My love life is none of your concern Zeh-ro, nor is Y/N.”           “But she…” Damian cut him short, tired of hearing and seeing the man. “I will hear no more. Now leave.” Fortunately, he beat a retreat and exited the room while muttering insults in Arabic that Damian chose to ignore. He had other matters to take care of.           Only when the man finally was out of sight, did the leader of the league choose to relax and lose his aggressive austerity. “Will he ever learn?” He asked Koru who almost allowed himself to smile. “I’m afraid not, master.” Damian sighed again and put on his long green kimono that he carelessly knotted around his strong waist. “What has Y/N done again?”     “ I believe it is better for you to see it, master.”
***
In spite of the cashmere gloves you were wearing, your hands were red and freezing just as your cheeks and the tip of your nose. Unsurprising since you had been spending the afternoon playing in the snow with the few children of the league who had been bold enough to follow you in your shenanigans.     Not that it had been your goal all along. In fact, you had never thought about asking anyone to follow you in your “Not so top-secret Christmas mission ” as you had named it when the little rascals had found you baking Christmas cookies in the kitchen this morning and curiously asked what you were up to.           Before that, you had just planned to bake for your lover and decorate a Christmas tree in your shared quarters, away from prying eyes, perfectly aware of the fuss your silly little actions would cause if anyone caught you trying to celebrate Christmas.         But then, the children had simply said, “We’ve never celebrated Christmas.” with their little eyes shining with sadness.
And so here you were. Building snowmen right under the noses of mighty assassins glaring at you as if you were committing the most awful crime in the world.   Their reactions had hurt you at first, just as many other things they had done – or hadn’t done- since your arrival in the monastery in spite of all your relentless attempts at fitting in. But then you had realised that they should not matter and that you should focus only on the magic, on the happiness of the children by your side occasionally fighting with snowballs and acting - maybe for the first time of their life - as who they truly were, kids.
“Beloved?” You slightly jumped and dropped the small little stone carefully chosen to be the left eye of your snowman on the ground. “Damian.” You didn’t know how to react. Usually, Damian was always there to defend you, finding excuses to all the times your attitude wasn’t appreciated or approved by the league. But there was a difference between forgetting to remove your shoes at the entrance of Ra’s Al Ghul’s temple and celebrating an occidental tradition in a monastery of assassins. Maybe had you gone too far this time. “What are you doing?”         “Look… I know this looks bad. But it’s my first winter here, my first Christmas away from my family and I thought …”           “That you could celebrate it here.” He looked so serious you couldn’t tell if he was mad at you or if he simply was tired of you not being “the right paramour” for him – a term Damian’s counsellor had spit to your face quite a few times. “I get that I might have gone too far this time. I can stop if that’s what you want.”
Damian knelt to pick the little black stone you had dropped and suddenly, much to your surprise and to those around you, placed it on your snowman’s face. “By all means, continue.” And with a gentle timid smile, he turned around to where he came from. You blinked quite a couple of times; unable to believe what you had just seen or to demonstrate all the happiness this small action had given you.           But then you gasped as a huge snowball hit Damian right in the back of his head. “God damn …” He cursed more out of surprise than out of pain and turned back around with a glare you had never seen. Your eyes widened and you looked at the terrorised children who were all pointing at the culprit. Guess boldness and courage had their limits. “How dare you throw a snowball at the Demon’s Head? And behind his back?” He growled, definitely angry and the poor children looked down, petrified. “I guess someone has to teach you how to play fairly.”
And then a snowball hit your shoulder, making you scream loudly. “Ahhh” But then you saw that Damian was laughing like you had never heard him laugh before. And goodness, how contagious it was. “You’re going to pay for this!” You harrumphed trying to remove the snow from inside your coat. “Choose your partners, kids. This battle is to death.”
***
“I let you win.” Damian declared as he removed his thick leather boots once in your quarters. “Plus you had better partners. Mine were all incompetent. I scored all the points myself.”       “Of course, Dami. Of Course.” You smiled and removed your wool coat to place it by the fireplace where you chose to stay a little to enjoy its welcome warmth after this cold afternoon outside.       “You know. You’re starting to show, beloved.” Damian said as he approached you to lovingly hug you from behind and kiss your neck, his strong hands on your slightly round belly that were keep a four-months little secret no one knew about yet. “Yeah. We won’t be able to keep hiding it for too long.” You put your hands on Damian’s, adoring his sudden proximity and his devotion to you and to your little one growing inside of you. “I guess that’s gonna make some people boil over.”           “Who cares?” He kissed your temple and let his soft lips remain on your skin just to smell its perfume. You let go in his embrace, wondering how this loving man could be the leader of such a deadly organisation. Speaking of deadly organisation …   “By the way, thank you for this afternoon, for defending me again. I know it often undermines you especially in Zeh-Ro’s eyes.” You heard Damian sigh and tense a little before turning you around to face him. “Beloved, when will you realise I do not care about what Zeh-Ro thinks, about what anyone thinks? I’m happy to defend you. At least it shows them that I am not my grandfather and that they can’t expect me to be him.” “ But …” You tried to protest and he gestured you to be quiet with a finger on your lips. “No buts. I love all the things you do here. I love all the love you bring to this place, to me. And I want out child to experience it. I don’t want him to live the joyless loveless childhood I lived.” You smiled at his words but your eyes reflected the sadness he had in his. You knew about his past, about Talia and Ra’s and all the things they made him go through, the exhausting relentless and abusive trainings and the heavy burden they had placed on his young shoulders when he was just a little boy. And so you cupped his cheek and softly kissed him in on tiptoe, keeping his broad body against yours that seemed so tiny and fragile in comparison to his. Though, the most fragile person in this room right now was him.               “I have something for you, beloved.” Damian said as he slowly let go of you for a moment to take something he had left in his desk. “I hope you’ll like it.”
You slightly shook the box he had just given you, curious to know what’s inside. “You know it’s not Christmas yet.”   “I know. It’s not really a Christmas gift” You narrowed your eyes trying to read in his what he was hiding from you. “Just open it.” He chuckled and you grinned, your hands already tearing the wrapping up. It was a wooden small box. “You’re not asking me to marry you, are you?” You asked cheekily and Damian laughed. “Not yet.” He smirked but you chose to ignore it for now, too excited to know what was in the box.
It was a beautiful Christmas tree star, certainly made of crystal judging by how fragile and translucent it looked, and definitely very ancient. “Damian, it’s beautiful.” “You like it?” “I love it!” You corrected as you delicately touched it with your fingertips. “Good. Cause there’s a Christmas tree in the main hall that is waiting for it.” He looked at your eyes brighten instantly and as beautifully and brightly as the star you were holding, glad he could finally make you feel at home as much as you could make him feel at home. “Merry Christmas, beloved.”   “Merry Christmas, Damian.”           Merry Christmas, indeed.

Senses - Chapter One - Soulmate AU
AO3
Here - Next
Master List
Happy birthday to me! As a gift from me to you, here is the first chapter of my new story! It's more mature than the other one, so be sure to be careful before you start reading.
This work was inspired by Sense8. The soulbond works the same way as in the TV Show. I've tried to explain it as best as I could in chapter 2, but I don't know if I succeeded. If you've watched it, you'll have no issue. If you haven't, it's a good TV show but it's not for everyone. If you're under 18, I don't recommend you watch it as there are violence and graphic sexual content in it.
In this story though, there is no graphic sexual content. It's implied, just like in Never Alone. But there are graphic depiction of violence and blood at some point, I'll warn you in the notes at the beginning of the chapter of course.
TW: Marinette has a bit of a panic attack in here, but it's really short!
Summary: Marinette never thought that she would be among the 0.1% of the population to have a soulmate, and yet, here she was.She wasn't ready for her life to change drastically because of it.
The first time Damian heard about soulmates was when he was fourteen-year-old. His mother never mentioned it when he was a child and neither did his father nor any of his brothers when he came to live in Gotham when he was ten.
The reason he never heard of it was simple: only 0.1% of the population had a soulmate. Which meant that the chance of him having one were close to none.
While soulmates were common knowledge, it wasn’t particularly talked about because of the rarity of it. People weren’t jealous of the very few who got one, but there was a curiosity about this topic.
So, when Damian first saw a girl in the dining room while he and his family were having dinner, he was more than surprised. No one should be able to enter the Manor unnoticed.
“Who are you and how did you get in here?!” he asked, or rather, demanded in a cold tone.
The girl jumped as if she hadn’t noticed him at all. She turned around, her eyes landing on him and she squealed, letting the sketchbook and pen that were in her hands fall on the floor.
“What- Who are you?! And how did you get in here?”
“I’m the one asking the questions.”
His family looked at him before looking around. Dick left his seat to approach him.
“Who are you talking to?” he asked softly, as if afraid to startle him.
It made Damian frown. He didn’t need his oldest brother to treat him like he was going to break down if he were to talk louder than that.
“I’m talking to this girl who somehow broke into our house.”
The girl scoffed. “Excuse me, but it’s the other way around. You’re in my house.”
The youngest Wayne stood up, hitting his fist on the table.
“Stop with this nonsense. How could I be at your house when you’re clearly in mine?”
There was a soft gasp coming from behind him and Alfred came behind him, resting a hand on his shoulder to try and calm him down.
“I think I know what is going on, Master Damian. And there is no need to worry.”
“No need to worry,” the pre-teen exclaimed, turning around to face the man. “A girl just broke into our home and you’re saying there is nothing to worry about?”
“Indeed. Because there is no one here.”
He went to argue, to tell them that there was obviously a girl around his age right in front of them, that he wasn’t going crazy. But when he turned around, the girl was no longer here.
“What- where did she go?”
“Master Damian, you were the only one seeing her.”
Damian scowled as he faced Alfred again. “How is that possible?” he looked at his brothers and his father who were looking at him in worry. “I’m not going insane!” he defended.
“No one said you were,” answered Dick, but there was an edge in his voice that said otherwise.
“You didn’t but you still think there’s something wrong with me.”
“Well, you did see someone no one else saw,” started Jason.
Tim remained silent, as did his father, probably trying to understand what was going on.
“But Master Damian is not going insane,” Alfred stated, still as calm as ever. “He just met his soulmate.”
There were several gasps around the table, and the look of worry disappeared from the members of his family’s faces, to be replaced by a look of understanding.
“What are you talking about exactly,” he asked, feeling calmer now that there was an explanation about what just happened, even if he didn’t fully understand it yet.
His father cleared his throat. “I’m not surprised you didn’t hear about soulmates until now. Talia probably never saw the use to, and I didn’t think about bringing it up.”
The middle-aged man took a bite of his meal, swallowing before continuing.
“It’s not common, but some people do have a soulmate out there. I believe it’s only 0.1% of the population, if not less.”
He fell silent, disregarding his meal as he contemplated how to explain this particular topic to his son. Never did he think that he would meet someone with a soulmate. Because, yes, it was that rare. Never would he have thought that his own son would be one of the people having a soulmate.
But it was a good thing, Bruce thought. His son, who had so many difficulties trusting others and befriending people, was blessed with someone who he could trust with his life.
He knew it wouldn’t be that easy. That Damian would scoff at the idea. That he would probably be rude to the girl that was assigned as his soulmate when he will see her again. That it would probably take years for him to give his soulmate his trust.
But she would be the one he would trust the most, one day.
“When you have a soulmate, someone that was decided to be your perfect partner by the fates, they appear to you from time to time. Either you’ll see them where you are, or you’ll appear at their location. They’re not really there, but you’ll sense them all the same. You can touch them, interact with them, but you can’t have any interaction with their environment.”
He sighed, feeling that his explanation was not helping at all.
“There are, sometimes, body switches. You don’t always control them, especially in the beginning, but you can learn to. The… uh… ‘apparitions’, let’s call them that, will be random too until you learn how to control it.”
Bruce massaged his temples, trying to remember what he knew of soulmates.
“Oh,” he began again, “if your soulmate speaks another language, it will be automatically translated to the one you speak.”
He finally looked at his son in the eyes, seeing him frown. “Basically, your soulmate is the other half of your soul. Your one true partner, the one who will never betray you. Congratulations, Damian.”
His other sons smiled at their younger brother, taking their turn to congratulate him, but the pre-teen only frowned.
“What’s wrong?” asked Bruce, even though he knew exactly what his son was thinking.
Damian scoffed. “I don’t believe in that. Who can decide who to trust but me?”
Bruce sighed, crossing his arms. “I’m not saying that you have to trust that girl immediately. You are soulmates, yes, but it works like every other relationship. With work and efforts to get to know each other. I know your trust has to be earned. Well, so be it. Just know that, as your soulmate, whether you like it or not, that girl is here to stay.” Bruce smiled. “She was chosen for you.”
Damian scowled, and Bruce let out a laugh. “We’ll see where it goes. Don’t think too much about it.”
Bruce was about to go back to eating when Damian finally spoke up.
“If she appears at random times without any of us having control of it, my identity will be compromised.”
Bruce froze, as did his other sons.
He had thought of that, of course. There was no hiding something that big to a soulmate. And while he didn’t like the idea to trust someone he didn’t know with his son’s identity — and his own and his other sons’ too — he had to believe that the person assigned as his son’s soulmate could be trusted.
After all, not a lot of people could be his son’s soulmate.
“It will. And we’ll have to bear with that. Since it’s your soulmate, it means that she is someone you can trust, even if you take a long time to trust her because of your issues.”
He sighed.
“I don’t like that our identities will be compromised, but we can’t do anything about it.”
“I can always threaten her.”
Jason laughed. “That’s a very bad way to start any sort of relationship, brat.”
They all returned to their dinner silently, all worried about their identity.
Especially since there was nothing there would be able to do about it.
Tumblr media
Marinette was having trouble breathing. Her vision was turning black the more it lasted.
She was having a panic attack, she realized, like an afterthought.
She tried touching things around her. She found the sketchbook and the pen that had fallen on the floor earlier. She felt a piece of paper too — one of Adrien’s pictures she has been getting rid of, she realized — and the wood of the floor.
But it was Tikki’s voice that made her calm down.
“Marinette, you’re okay. I’m here and you’re in your room. Nothing can hurt you here. Listen to my voice, alright? Breathe in… Hold it… Breathe out.”
She listened carefully to the kwami’s instructions and after awfully long minutes, she managed to calm down enough to breathe.
“What happened,” the little god finally asked, her voice soothing to Marinette.
The dark-haired girl took a deep breath before looking around, making sure that the boy from earlier was truly gone.
He was there, just like that, coming out of nowhere, and gone the next moment.
Marinette wasn’t stupid. She knew what it meant. She had heard about soulmates from Tikki.
She just didn’t think that she would be one of those people with one. It felt so surreal.
“There was a boy here just five minutes ago.”
Tikki frowned.
“But there was no one…” she said before her eyes widened. “Oh! You’ve got your first contact with your soulmate! Marinette!” she exclaimed, flying in circles as she expressed her joy. “That’s amazing! You have a soulmate.”
Marinette said nothing, frowning as she looked around in her room.
The photos of Adrien that have been hanging on her walls were now on the ground sorted in a pile, waiting to be thrown out.
Marinette fell in love with Adrien almost a year ago, when he gave her his umbrella.
She had changed so much after that, obsessing over him like she has never obsessed over anything before.
She had had photos of him on her walls. His schedule too.
And yet, she hadn’t seen anything wrong with it at the time.
It was only when she had this weird double date with Luka, Adrien, and Kagami, after dragging Luka in this, did she realize.
Her love — no, her obsession — for Adrien wasn’t healthy. She was becoming a stalker and trying to sabotage other people for her own gain.
She was so focused on Adrien that everything else came in second place.
She didn’t like who she was becoming. Marinette didn’t like herself anymore.
And wasn’t it important to love oneself? Or to at least, to have some self-respect?
But Marinette didn’t like nor did she respect herself when she was in love with Adrien.
So she had to move on for her own sake if not for other’s.
She had taken down his schedule first. Then, it was the pictures, little by little.
There was so much of them that it took her a few days to take them down completely. School, homework, and her Ladybug’s duties left her with little time for anything else.
It was one in the morning right now, on the weekend that she finally took down the last of the pictures. She wasn’t tired yet so she had decided to sketch a little.
And then, the boy appeared.
Marinette was only now trying to move on from Adrien. From a frankly unhealthy crush — which made her wonder why her friends were encouraging it in the first place — and it was difficult, but she had to do it, to find herself again.
And somehow, the fates decided that it was a good time for her to introduce her to her soulmate.
No. Marinette couldn’t do this.
What if she became obsessed once again? What if she was actually insane and would obsess over anyone she would feel attracted to?
She wasn’t ready for a soulmate.
Deciding that it wouldn’t do any good to keep all that to herself, she told Tikki everything she was thinking.
The Kwami looked at her with this smile that reminded her so much of her mother.
“Oh, Marinette,” she sighed softly. “You’re not insane. Don’t be afraid of love because your first experience wasn’t a good one.”
“It was unhealthy, Tikki,” the blue-eyed girl interrupted.
“It was. But it’s also my fault. I didn’t tell you it was, and you were only thirteen when you fell in love with Adrien. You didn’t recognize an unhealthy behavior yet. I should have told you. But you realized that you didn’t like who you were becoming and decided to change. It’s a good thing. You’re admitting your errors and you’re taking your responsibilities to try and correct them.”
She flew to Marinette’s cheek and give her a little hug.
“And I’m proud of you for that,” the little kwami said. “It was the first time you fell in love. You got a bit excited. To the point of obsession, and obsession is never a good thing. Never. But you’re moving on from that. Now that you know it’s wrong, you won’t do it anymore, I know it.”
The fashion designer nodded, reassured by her friend’s words.
“I…” she hesitated but continued when Tikki nodded at her. “I still don’t want a soulmate… I mean… In theory, it’s amazing. My other half… The one I will trust more than anyone else in the world… But I don’t want to be forced to love them.”
Tikki laughed. “You won’t. The bond is just introducing you and, yeah, it will force you to spend time together with the apparitions and the switches, but it’s just saying: ‘Look! Here is the perfect person for you. They’re right here! Now, do what you want with this knowledge.’ You will love them because you want to, not because the bond is forcing you.”
The designer looked away, still skeptical.
Tikki smiled. “I understand your skepticism. But you’ll see for yourself.” she kissed her holder’s cheek. “Just keep an open mind, okay?”
“Alright.” Marinette sighed, getting up and gathering Adrien’s pictures. “Okay. Time to move on,” she said determinedly.
And she threw the last pictures in the trash.

Teen Titans
A/N: Raven, Damian, BB, and Mari are 15-16. Dick, Victor, and Kori are late twenties. Jaime is 17ish. One scene inspired by I Would Like One Family Please, by Celestial_Void_the_3rd on AO3
@maribat-2k20
Marinette and Damian never hid anything from each other. There was never a true reason to. They grew up together, they were developed in incubators next to each other, they received training along with each other. Their chambers were separated by a curtain. They were each other's most trusted confidant.
Even after they left the League of Assassins, they stuck together. He knew about her being polysexual and her about his desire to try crossdressing. But apparently, that's still not everything.
Marinette was just plainly walking in down a hallway. It was almost dinner time and she wanted to try out a new vegan macaron recipe so they could have it for dessert. She had her freshly printed instructions in hand, still warm from the printer. She was in full chef mode. When she saw it.
Damian, her brother; her twin; her best friend, in full lip-lock with, her crush, Raven.
Not that either know about the last part. Mari had feelings for Raven since they were fourteen and she hadn't acted on them other than having especially rosy cheeks around the empath. You would think she'd pick up on these feeling quickly.
But, alas, not even her brother knew. She couldn't bring herself to say it. Maybe it was her subconscious keeping her from embarrassing herself even further.
The girl slowly retreats, banking on the assumption her brother is too occupied to be aware. Once she was safely out of range, she allowed her self to feel. She darted to her room to change while texting Kori that she was going to be late to dinner. Marinette was on autopilot mode from there on.
She didn't really wake up until she found herself on the roof of Unbe-leaf-able, a vegan restaurant/café they frequent in and out of costume. One of the only places that can really pull off cauliflower crust pizza, too.
She sits on the ledge of a nearby building, unnoticed due to the darkening night and the height of the establishment. Starring down at her unopened take out box, she notices it has several droplets of clear liquid on it. Her eyebrows furrow in confusion as she raises her hand to tell if its raining. When she determines that it's not, her face grimaces in more confusion.
That's when she notices her face feel wet too. If her hand can't feel the rain why can her-
Oh.
She's crying.
It's been sometime since that happened. She hadn't shed tears since the league, and even then those weren't tears of genuine emotion.  It happened during one of their first missions, they were in an American mall trying to find and kidnap the daughter of an ex-client. He had been late on his payment and they decided to speed up the process.
The ex-client anticipated they'd be targeting him, rightfully so. So he hired a squad of bodyguards for his daughter.
The mission wasn't going very well, they'd been spotted and the guards knew who to look for. After regrouping at the food court, Talia and Damian left to get food, leaving Mari alone at their table. One of the bodyguards must have seen this as an opportunity, and made his way over to her.
Mari was small as a child, she had the face of pure innocence and good. So she was taught how to use that. Improvising, her expression morphed to one of fear, and she held tightly to her bright pink bag; leading any already suspicious onlookers to rise from their chairs.
The guy's ego must have been bigger than him since he didn't seem to falter from their looks. Or maybe he didn't even notice, didn't matter to Mari. He grabbed her arm and she squeaked in faux terror. She had him right were she needed.
"Stranger Danger! I-I don't know him, help-" She wept, forcing herself to tears before he slammed his hand over her mouth seconds too late. This got the attention of almost everyone in the food court, other parents already half way to them. His eyes bulged and he quickly let go trying to calm the situation. But the bystanders had seen enough, and he was on the ground in seconds.
The commotion caught the attention of his fellow guards and they rushed over to the scene.
"Sweetie, it's okay now, the bad man can't hurt you. Do you know where your parents are?" A blonde haired lady asked, kneeling down to her. She wore a peacock feather-inspired barrette and a pale violet dress.
"M-my mama, she, she and my brother went, went, went to go get food." She stuttered as she discreetly tapped a transmitter on her bag strap, informing Talia that the coast was clear to get the daughter.
"Okay, do you want to sit with me and my family while you wait? It's right over there, so when your mama comes back she won't have to look far." The lady said, pointing to a table with three other people. A pale blonde man, a blonde boy who's hair looked more like the lady's, a brown haired man with grey side burns, and a dark haired women with a red streak in her hair. Her hair looked more like Mari's real hair. They must be the lady's family.
But instead of answering her question, Mari corrected her, "It's 'my family and me' not  'me and my family'."
The lady lets out a hearty laugh, "Yes, I suppose it is. You remind me of my husband." She smiles at the girl. "So, would you like to sit with my family for a while?"
She tilted her head, pretending to consider it while really looking over to her mother, who now stands just a few feet away from the were the daughter was. Her eyes held question, should she go; should she not.
Talia noticed her gaze and her question, nodding to her daughter. Mari could have sworn she saw a rare look of pride on Talia, before her face contorted to a blank stare.
"Okay." She answered the blonde lady, taking her open hand.
As she sat at the end of the table, she was instantly hit with the questions of the blonde boy, "Hi, who are you? Are you okay? What's your name?" He lent over the table to talk.
"Oh my, I forgot to introduce my self. I'm sorry, dear," she apologized, "My name is Emily, that's Gabriel; my husband, that's Natalie; our personal assistant-slash-family friend, that's Adrien; our son, and that's Elliot or as Adrien calls him; Gorilla. He's his bodyguard." Mari nods, shyly looking at each of them. "So what's your name, sweetie?"
The boy had been staring at her since she got to their table, he looked at her patiently, waiting for her answer.
"Bridgette."
Mari had always liked undercover missions, nothing was ever real. She could be anyone and do what ever without worrying about meeting them again. She once spent a year in Paris, undercover as Maria, she even saw the same boy from missions ago and he didn't recognize her at all. She faked her death once they had successfully gotten rid of the ambassador's daughter.
Oh, what Mari wouldn't give for this to all be fake. For her to be able to forget the kiss, to forget everyone in the tower and move on to the next mission. Maybe some place in the Caribbean-
"Hey." She jumped at the new voice, but didn't reach for a weapon. It was a familiar voice. Maybe even a trusted one.
"Hey, Gar," she didn't turn around, couldn't. Even after months of brattiness, she had earned his respect. Showing the weakness of tears would effectively erase any progress she had. Hastily, she wiped her face with the napkin that came with her meal, attempting to calm herself down to look presentable. "What are you doing here?" She asked.
"Kori told us you were eating out. I volunteered to check it out," He answered before laughing bitterly, "Damian gave me the stink eye, though. Like he's got any place to judge." He muttered the last part. "Can I sit with you, Mars?"
"No." She said, sounding all like the stuck up heiress she was.
"Please." He stretched out the vowel. Mari could hear the pout in his voice, and saw it on him in his dog form. She sighed as turned to lean against the border of the building. There was a three-foot wall on the roof, probably to keep anyone on it from falling. It didn't matter to Mari or Gar, both had fallen from farther and survived.
She nodded mutely for him to go over to her. If she counted out Damian, the closest Titan to her would be Gar.
They sat like that for a while, changing position to one more comfortable every now and then. By the time Mari spoke up, she was leaning on his shoulder with his arm around her waist. It was getting really dark and they hadn't touched the food she order yet.
"So, you saw the kiss?" Mari whispered. She noticed his bitterness towards her brother, normally she would have defended him but she let it slide this time.
"Yeah," Gar whispered back, "What's got you so down, Mars?"
She hesitated, he didn't know. He didn't have to know, she could make up a lie and ignore her feelings. Bury them down, just like she did in the league. But he was trustworthy, she knew that, "Same as you." She gulped nervously.
Instead of acting on his surprise, he laughs, "Oh man, the irony. Three roomies liking the same girl? Classic." But then he sobers down and leans his head back on hers, and mumbles, "Sucks for the two sobs who don't get the girl, amiright?"
She lets herself laugh cry, "Oh yeah, sucks a lot," her shoulders shake as she laughs, " 'specially when the one who gets the girl is your brother."
"Mhm," he hums in agreement, "Never seen you so distraught, Mars, is it really all about the kiss? Or is it because we couldn't have our biweekly Ultimate Mecha Strike Five tournament yesterday?" He smirked playfully. One of the best things about Gar was that he always made it clear you didn't have to answer his questions, he gave easy outs.
Yeah, would be the answer to anyone other than him, he gave her an excuse not to answer, why doesn't she use it, It just, really threw me off. It's okay though, I'll get over it in a week.
"No." She responded. She doesn't use the easy out. She doesn't need it, "I. I, I guess I always expected it. The part were only one of us can have something, not the kiss its self," she corrected, "did not expect that. We always knew that someday, it would come down to one. Only one of us could ascend to Demon's Head. We knew, they knew, Mother knew. We spent our lives preparing for it. Yet this all feels so surreal."
Not knowing anything to say to comfort his friend, Gar simply held her in a tighter squeeze.
After a few more minutes in their position, he asked, "So... We gonna start eating or is the food just meant to go cold?"
She smiled and bummed their legs, "You dumbass."
"It's a valid question!"

Get a Little Worn Down in Between
For @summer-of-whump day 5 prompt: broken which gave me a reason to write hurt Tim Drake and protective Jason. Fandoms: Batman Comics/Red Robin Comics Warnings for: Suicidal thoughts, talk of emotional and physical abuse.  You can also read it on AO3 Rated Teen(PG-13)
Jason wondered if they even realized that they had broken Tim, the one that gave everything and asked for very little in return who fought and still fought to be usefully in hopes that it would mean that he would be welcomed into the family until they broke him beyond repair.
Given the smug smirk on Damian's face as the little demon stood behind Dick and Bruce as he once away got away with emotionally and verbally abusing Tim while Tim was lectured about how he was older than Damian, he couldn't let Damian get to him, Damian is just a child and Tim should know better.
Jason could see as each barb hit deep and left another scar already over his sacred heart.
"Enough!" Jason snarled as he stomped forward and pushed Tim behind him. He had done his fair share of harm to Tim, he allowed Talia to manipulate him, to twist and turn him into her weapon to get rid of Tim. He still didn't know why she hated Tim so much that she would use him and now her son to get rid of him
He saw Talia in Damian and it scared him. He couldn't deny that Dick had done wonders with the little gremlin but staying quiet while Damian went after Tim with everything he had to push him to the edge needed to stop it wasn't helping Damian it was just enabling him. If no one took Damian aside and explained to him why trying to kill Tim, why attacking him not with just his weapons but also his words were wrong and needed to stop Jason was afraid that one day they would find Tim standing on the edge of a ledge and no words would be enough to pull him back from the edge.
Tim had saved this family, it was time someone saved him.
"Just enough. Stop it. No," Jason held up his hand when both Bruce and Dick looked to speak, "You both have done enough talking now it is time for you to listen and you will listen to me even if I have to tie you to chairs, you will fucking finally listen." Jason snarled out.
"Jason?" Tim's soft voice came from behind him and Jason's heart nearly broke at how soft and hopeful it sounded.
Turning to look over his shoulder Jason flashed Tim a soft smile, "It's going to be okay baby bird." He found himself promising.
Biting his lower lip Tim looked at his Robin, his hero and he felt safe, not like he felt when he was with Kon, Bart, Cassie and Cass but safer than he has felt in the cave for years. "You don't have to do this." The last thing that Tim wanted was to cause strife between Jason and the others just when Jason was slowly starting to return to them.
"I'm doing this Tim because it should have been done long ago."
"What is this drivel? We have more important things to worry about than Drake's feelings. He is just proving how weak he is."
Jason didn't miss the way Tim flinched at Damian's words or how he curled into himself when no one spoke up for him.
"Your mother sure taught you all of her tricks on how to manipulate people. I heard that speech from Talia before when she was doing everything in her power to turn me against Tim. To make me her weapon in getting rid of him. I'm just surprised that Dickie and B are weak-minded enough to fall for that bullshit trick." Jason casually commented. "Physical, emotional and verbal abuse are three tricks of the Al Ghul's and you Damian have mastered them." Jason clapped slowly. "Your mother and grandfather must be so proud of you. You are proving you are Al Ghul through and through."
Damian froze as Dick let out a growl, "That is enough Jason." Dick snarled out.
Cocking an eyebrow Jason looked at Dick like he was a speck of dirt on his boot, "So it is wrong for me to talk to Damian like that but it is okay for him to talk to Tim even worse? And don't give me that bullshit that Tim is older and Damian is just a child because that excuse is shit and you know it. Tim is not an adult yet, he has been forced to grow up fast all of his life. He never had a childhood, the only happiness he had was chasing us all over Gotham. He is not you Dick! He didn't need space, he needed his family supporting him while he was grieving losing so many people that he loved. And what does he get a little brother that tries to kill him and doesn't even get a stern talking to? No, he gets Robin and he gets to keep up the emotional and verbal abuse because the only adults in his life are too much of a bunch of cowards to step up and set boundaries for him!" Jason could feel the rage of the pit starting to bubble up, a soft touch on his arm had him turning to look at Tim who had stepped up beside him.
Tim could see the pit beginning to take over and that was the last thing he wanted, Jason had worked so hard to learn to control it that he didn't want to set him back. "For so long I have wanted a family." Tim started and he found himself licking his lips as he met Dick's gaze, "From the moment you gave me that hug that horrible night I wished that I could be your little brother. Batman and Robin were more than my heroes they were the family I longed for." He moved his gaze to Bruce, "No matter how hard you pushed me, wanting to make me quit and go away I fought all that much harder to find a place here because you were my family. Only no matter how hard I tried it was never enough. I would never be Jason, I was just his replacement, a placeholder until someone else came along. Someone who was wanted."
The smugness returned to Damian while Dick paled as the words began to sink in and Bruce began to see where this was going.
"I will never be Dick. I will never be Jason. I will never be Cass. I will never be Damian. All of them are loved and wanted in this family. I am just Tim, the replacement, the placeholder, the tool of the Batfamily. I love you all, even you Damian. I had been so happy to learn that I was going to have a little brother that I could pass Robin off to." There was a tear trailing down Tim's cheek as his voice broke.
Jason felt his heart break for Tim as Damian's eyes widened as Tim's words finally seemed to sink in.
"I knew I wouldn't be Robin forever and that you would someday be ready for it. I know you hated me, Damian, that you saw me as someone you needed to get rid of to prove your worth here. I don't know if your hatred of me grew because I was the first and only one who drew a line in the sand and told you that we don't kill. In the end, it didn't matter because Bruce or Dick never once backed that rule up. They never thought to set limits for you because you had a tough life. But the thing is Damian you weren't the only one. And I'm not even talking about myself but Jason and Cass, both of who have made amazing progress because someone took the time to sit them down and teach them what is and isn't acceptable. I guess since I am the only one you want gone neither Bruce nor Dick think it is important enough to teach you why words can cut deep and leave scars that sometimes never heal. I guess I just am not worth it to them, after all, I am the unwanted one."
"Tim." Dick took a step forward, his hand reached out to touch Tim, only to stop when Jason shifted so he was once again standing in front of Tim blocking the younger man from view.
"Now is not the time Dick," Jason stated his voice hard.
"It's okay Jason," Tim informed him as he moved out from behind his bulky form, staring at his so-called family Tim decided it was time to announce the decision he had come to weeks ago, "I think it is best for myself if I left Gotham."
Silence filled the cave, not even a bat could be heard.
"Son," Bruce started his eyes wide, he knew that things had been rough but he never expected this.
Tim shook his head, "No, it is too late. If I stay here it won't be long until I am jumping from a ledge."
Dick's legs gave out from him as he collapsed on the floor and out of the corner of his eye he could see Bruce falling back into the chair at the Bat Computer. Even Damian looked affected by Tim's words.
"If it wasn't for Kon and Bart finding me, breaking the no meta rule I wouldn't be standing here today. And that is why I am leaving. I can't take being someone's punching bag and then being blamed for defending myself. I am done being the victim in what is supposed to be my home. So I am moving to San Francisco permanently. Red Robin will no longer be a part of the Bat's so please don't contact me, not that you have. I haven't heard from any of you but Jason and Cass for six months."
"Timmy," Dick's voice cracked as he realized that he was losing his baby brother, again. "Please don't go." Once again he felt helpless as another brother left him behind.
"I can't Dick." Tim's eyes were full of sorrow as he met Dick's pleading gaze. "I can't stay here and wither away until there is nothing left of me. I am barely hanging on as it is. I'm sorry but it is time I put myself first for once. I will miss you, despite everything I still love all of you and still think of you as my family." With nothing left to say Tim turned on his heel and left the cave.
When Tim's footsteps could no longer be heard Jason let out a laugh, "Well Talia's plan worked she wanted to get rid of the light of Batman and she did." Not wanting to be around them any longer Jason turned on his heel and left, he wanted to make sure that no one tried to stop Tim from leaving.
Dick looked shaken as he turned to face Bruce as he begged to know, "Bruce, what do we do now?"
Bruce had no response all he could focus on was how much darker the cave looked now that Tim was gone.

A Courting We Will Go
Erica hands Derek his wolfsbane laced beer and plonks herself down next to him on the bench.
“Have you asked him yet?”
Derek groans, running his hand down his face. “No, Erica.”
“Why not?”
“None of your business.”
“Actually, it is my business. You’re my Alpha, he’s my Emissary. Or he would be if you just freaking asked him!”
Derek grumbles at his beta. “It’s not that simple Erica! There’s a process. I essentially have to court him. I can’t just walk up to him and say, “Yo Stiles! Wanna be my emissary?”
Erica looks at Derek with wide eyes. “You have to court him?”
“Kinda. It's not an overly lengthy process, but I have to make my intention known by bringing him a hard to get spell ingredient, preferably one he needs and then it goes from there.”
“This is perfect!” Erica jumps up from her seat and throws herself into Derek’s lap, both of their beers sloshing out the top of the bottles. “You can court him as your emissary, AND as your loverboy.”
“WHAT??? NO ERICA that’s not …”
“You’ve been pining over Stiles for months, if not years! You can woo him to because our Emissary, and woo him into your bed!”
“I have not been pining!”
Boyd and Isaac walk out of the house and down the back stairs. Isaac snorts. “You so have been pining.”
Boyd nods. “It’s pretty obvious too. Scott noticed.”
Erica starts to cackle. “And he’s a dumb as a box of rocks! Come on Der, you can combine the two! MULTITASKING.”
Derek looks at his betas. “OK. Maybe I have been pining, But it doesn’t work like that. I can’t woo him as my emissary and mate at the same time.”
Boyd shrugs. “So pick one.”
The betas look at their Alpha expectantly. “We’ll go with Emissary first. We need an Emissary.”
Erica looks disappointed. “Can’t you woo him as your mate first? I don’t want to have to endure the pining until after the Emissary wooing is finished.”
Derek sighs. “Be patient sheesh. I’m going to go talk to my mom. You two make sure that Erica behaves.”
Derek gets up from the bench and climbs the stairs to the house. As he shuts the door he hears Isaac whisper, “I can't wait for them to bond, they're so good for each other."
*****
Derek runs over to his parent’s house in the preserve. As he breaks through the treeline he sees his mom Talia waiting on the porch.
“Hello Bun, what brings you over here today?”
Derek runs up the stairs and pulls his mother into a hug and gives her a squeeze. Talia laughs and hugs her son back giving a squeeze of her own.
“You seem happy! What’s gotten into you?”
Derek pulls away from the hug. “I’m going to start the Emissary courtship with Stiles.”
“Oh, darling heart that’s wonderful! You’re here for some information?”
Derek nods, following his mother into the house. The scent of cinnamon, vanilla, and ginger is rich in the air along with the fresh pine from the real Christmas tree standing in the corner of the living room.
Once in the kitchen, Talia pours Derek a coffee and one for herself. “So Bun, what do you want to know?”
Derek savours the flavour of the coffee and takes another sip before answering his mom. “Everything. I think I remember the steps, but I don’t want to mess this up.”
“Tell me what you remember then.”
“So the first step is the initial gift of getting something Stiles needs that’s hard to get. Then if he accepts that gift then the next gift is a copy of the latest bestiary. Then lastly I offer myself as his Alpha.”
Talia smiles at her son. “Good memory Derek! So you need to think of what to get Stiles, my suggestion is to look at his style of magic and get himself that will enhance that. While you do that I’ll make sure Peter has a Hale bestiary ready for the next step. This is so exciting Bun!”
Derek nods slowly as he downs the last of his coffee. “It feels like a long time coming. I mean, my betas say it’s a long time coming.”
“They probably thought that you would have at least asked Stiles out on a date by now.”
“MOM not you too!”
“Oh please Der-Bear, you have never been subtle when you are enamoured with a young man or woman. I’ve seen how you look at him, stealing glances when you think he’s not looking, smiling when he laughs even though you have no idea what he’s laughing at. But I’m glad you are going down the Emissary route first though. It will make your relationship so much stronger once you get together.”
“You seem awfully sure he’s going to accept my gift and then when I ask him out.”
“Bun, I’ve seen how he looks at you too. Now. What are you going to get for your first gift?”
*****
Derek pulls into the parking lot of the vet surgery just as Alan Deaton is about to lock the door for the evening. Alan holds the door open until Derek has entered, closing and locking the door after the wolf.
“What can I do for you, Mr Hale?”
“Sorry I’m here on closing Dr Deaton, but I won’t take too much of your time. I just wanted to ask you the best way to get all the different strains of wolfsbane. Is there a one-stop-shop or something?”
“Let’s take this conversation out the back Derek.”
Deaton lifts the bench to break the mountain ash line and leads Derek into the back office. “Back to your question, there is a one-stop wolfsbane shop actually. But it’s in Argentina.”
Derek’s face falls. “Oh.”
“I’m going to take a guess and say that this is for the first Emissary gift for Mr Stilinski?”
Derek nods.”Not only would it be helpful for the pack, but I think Stiles would love that.”
“I agree. I'm going to give you the name of the Emissary of the Garcia pack. Her name is Este. Not only does she have all the strains, but she’s the only person in the Americas who has a surplus of seeds. If you explain why you want the wolfsbane, and talk some about Stiles, I think she might send seeds too. That’s a mighty fine first Emissary gift.”
Deaton pulls out his address book from the locked bottom drawer in the drug cabinet and a piece of paper from the top of the desk. He writes down Este’s name and her contact details and hands the page to Derek. “Good luck Mr Hale. Stiles will make a wonderful addition to your pack. I believe your wolf and his spark are going to meld very well together and be a very powerful addition to the Hale pack.”
Derek holds the page in his hand gently as if it will shatter. “Thank you, Dr Deaton. I appreciate the help.”
The vet guides the wolf out of the building and closes and locks the door behind Derek. He waves and walks into the now dark office.
Derek walks to his car and pulls out his cell phone. Punching in the number he takes a deep breath and waits for the call to go through. There’s a click.
“Buenas tardes este es Este.”
“Hola, mi nombre es Derek Hale, soy uno de los Alfa en Beacon Hills. Quería hablar contigo sobre tu colección de matanza de lobo, ya que estoy planeando mi oferta de Emisario.”
*****
A week later Stiles Stilinski is in the kitchen of his family home preparing his homegrown vegetables to accompany a large roast beef that is already in the oven. His babica sits at the dining table laughing at her grandson as he tries to chop a carrot while shaking his backside to the music playing from the Bluetooth speaker.
A knock on the door startles Stiles as he’s about to begin chopping another carrot. “Babica can you get that for me? I’m covered in carrot guts.”
“Of course Mischief. For you my boy.” Gabriela Stilinski gets up from her chair and shuffles towards the front door. Opening the door widely she sees a nervous Derek standing there clutching a strong wooden box.
“Derek Hale! My goodness, you have grown up very very handsome. Isn’t he handsome Mieczyslaw? Come! Come!”
Looking like a deer in headlights, Derek walks into the house as Stiles is walking out of the kitchen wiping off his hands on a tea towel.
“Hey, Derek! What brings you here?”
Stiles throws the teatowel back into the kitchen.
Derek takes a deep breath. “Mieczyslaw Stilinski. With this gift, I offer you a place by my side. As my equal. As my partner. As my Emissary. Together we will guide and strengthen our pack, defend our territory, and support our allies. What say you?”
Derek holds the box forward, offering it up to Stiles. The Spark slowly lifts the lid and sees the perfectly wrapped strains of wolfsbane, as well as the numerous packets of seeds. Stiles gasps and runs his fingers over the top of all the packages. Taking a step back he looks up at Derek.
“Alpha Hale. It is my honour to accept your offer, both the gift and place by your side.”
Derek releases the breath he didn’t realise he was holding. “Really?”
Stiles rolls his eyes. “Of course Sourwolf! We’ve always been a good team.”
Derek places down the box and sweeps Stiles up into a hug. Stiles returns the hug eagerly while Gabriela claps.
The men pull away from the hug, Derek squeezes Stiles’ arms. “Your family is invited to our home for dinner on Sunday night to finalise the next steps of our joining.” Turning to Gabriela, “I’d love it if you came as well babcia.”
Stiles smiles brightly. “We will all be there. Dad isn’t working this weekend.”
Grandma Stilinski steps forward and grabs Derek’s arm. “You must tell us what to bring Derek, we must celebrate!”
*****
Sunday morning, Laura and Cora find Derek pacing the kitchen while the brand new Hale bestiary sits on the kitchen bench.
Cora rolls her eyes at her older brother. “You’re going to wear a hole in the floor boofhead. What’s got you so worked up?”
Laura raises an eyebrow. “Are you freaking out about tonight? It’ll go smoothly bun. It did for Lydia and me, it will for you and Stiles too.”
Derek stops pacing and looks at his sister in a panic. “What if he backs out?”
Talia sweeps into the room after her daughters. “He’s not going to back out Bun. He’s been telling everyone who will listen how excited he is. This is a big moment for both of you! Now, time to stop freaking out and bring yourself and your stuff over the main house to get ready. Everyone is aiming to be there by 5 pm so we need to get cracking.”
Laura goes upstairs and grabs Derek’s duffle and suit bag and brings them out to the car. Cora follows her out of the door leaving Talia and Derek alone in the kitchen. “My son, look at me.”
Derek looks at his mother, eyes filled with uncertainty.
“Stiles is just as nervous as you sweetheart. Claudia called me earlier laughing because Stiles had the hiccups for an hour. She said that he was scared you would change your mind.”
“I would never mom. He’s it for me.”
“As your Emissary? Or your mate?”
“Both. But I don’t know if could only having him as one and not the other.”
Talia takes her sons hands and gently squeezes them. “My boy, you have nothing to worry about on either count. Trust your mother. Forge your wolf’s bonds, then let the other happen naturally, and they will happen. But one thing at a time hmm?”
Derek smiles at his mom and grabs the book off the countertop, and follows his mother out of his house and to the family car.
*****
The grandfather clock in the hall strikes five, and the entirety of the Hale pack and Stilinski family sit in a circle in the backyard of the main Hale house. There are lights strung through all the trees, the aroma of cooking meat dances in the air, and the excited chatter of the families dulls down after the final clang of the clock.
From either side of the circle, Derek and Stiles make their way through their pack and meet in the middle. Derek is holding the new bestiary in his hands.
“Mieczyslaw Stilinski. To further our bond as wolf and spark, I offer you the complete history of the Hale family and our knowledge of all supernatural lore. Our bestiary is yours, guard it with your life and power, this knowledge not to leave our pack.”
Stiles opens the front page of the bestiary where Derek has put a singularity claw mark in the front cover. Closing his eyes, Stiles places his right index finger onto the claw mark. “My spark and your wolf, together as one.”
The page glows as magic inscribes into the paper the mark of the Emissary. Talia comes and takes the book from Derek and goes back to her seat. The men take a step closer.
“As our final step towards our joining, I pledge myself as your Alpha. To support you at all times. To protect you at all times. My wolf. Your spark. Our pack.”
Derek tilts his head to the right exposing his neck to Stiles while several people in the audience gasp. Stiles runs his hand down Derek’s neck and stops when he can feel the wolf’s pulse under his thumb.
“My spark. Your wolf. Our pack. I pledge myself as your Emissary. To support you at all times. To protect you at all times.”
Stiles squeezes Derek’s neck then removes his hand. Bearing his neck to Derek in return he whispers, “My Alpha.”
Derek lunges forward with fangs bared, pressing them gently into the pale skin of his Emissary. With the tips of his fangs touching the skin, the bond is completed, power surging between the wolf and the spark. Erica, Boyd, and Issac leap from their seats and howl in happiness as they feel the pack bonds strengthen and Stiles bond snapping into place with theirs. The rest of the Hale family then join in, howls ringing out into the night, the Stilinskis cheering and clapping.
As the howls quieten, and the wolves calm, Derek and Stiles are still standing in the middle of the circle, heads bowed, both men smiling widely.
Stiles breaks the silence. “Would it be too soon to tell you that I love you?”
Derek looks at Stiles in surprise and bursts out laughing, pulling Stiles into a hug. His laughter dies down and he looks in adoration and his Spark. “Not too soon at all.”
“Good. Now kiss me Alpha.”
Derek’s smile brightens as he tips Stiles chin gently and places a delicate kiss on his lips. “My Emissary.”

Tumblr media
BEFORE
Damian sat in his room staring out the window as a robin flew by.  He snorted at the irony and slowly turned his gaze away from the cloud covered sky.  It seemed like more often than not his days without you seemed cloudy and deprived of sunshine.  It had been seven months since they had buried you, seven months since he thought he saw you standing on the hill in the cemetery.
He had chased after you, hoping to see you again.  Hoping and praying that it was you watching him from the trees.  But when he reached the spot there was no sign of you.  Only tracks where two people had been standing.  He had frowned when he saw them, one set reminded him of his brother Jason’s favorite pair of combat boots while the others reminded Damian of shoes that you liked to wear.
He had gone back to the manor and back to Bruce saying that he thought it was you, that he was so sure it had been you watching him.  Bruce had merely pulled Damian in for a hug, not sure what to say.  He couldn’t tell Damian that it hadn’t been you because it very well could have been.  Jason said he was going to take you to the cemetery so you could see Damian one more time before starting over a few towns away.
There was a knock on Damian’s door alerting him to another presence.  Alfred poked his head in, “Master Damian, your father wishes to have a word with you.”
Damian nodded and rose to his feet and followed Alfred down the hall toward his father’s study.  He passed Selina on the way and they nodded tersely at each other.  Damian and Selina didn’t hate one another, but they weren’t exactly eager to be in the other’s presence.  They respected each other and understood that both of them cared for Bruce and they weren’t going to debase themselves to petty arguments and the like for Bruce’s sake.
Alfred gently pushed the door open to Bruce’s study and allowed Damian to enter before closing the door behind him to give father and son some privacy.  “Alfred said you wished to speak with me,” Damian said, his hands folded behind his back.
Bruce was eyeing his son from behind his desk wondering how best to break the news.  “Your mother was captured by the Justice League earlier after trying to steal some information from a government office in Italy.”
Damian nodded his head, unsurprised to hear this, “I take it she’s currently in one of the League’s holding cells.”
“She is, but the Italian government is calling for us to release her into their custody so that they can deal with her accordingly.”
Damian scoffed, “An Italian prison won’t be able to hold my mother.”  Not like one of the League cells could at least.
“The League is aware of this and are currently negotiating terms with the Italian authorities.  I called you here to inform you of this and ask if you wanted to speak with her before anything has been decided any further?”
Damian considered his father’s offer, “I would.  It’s been sometime since I spoke to her.  I should probably see how she’s doing.”
“I’ll call Oliver and tell him, we can be on a plane there tonight if you wish.”  Damian gave a stiff nod and headed back to his room to back a few things before their trip.
The katana went swinging over your head so fast you almost didn’t dodge it in time.  You rolled to the side and quickly hopped back up and went after your assailant.  Jason blocked your attack and grinned at you, “You’re getting better.”
You smirked and shoved him away quickly trying to kick his feet out from under him, but he merely jumped up to avoid the attack.  “I think you’re just becoming too complacent,” you teased.
For the past seven months you had lived in a little cabin on the outskirts of some unknown town that Jason had found.  It wasn’t too far from Gotham, but far enough that you wouldn’t be noticed by anyone.  You worked in a little diner earning meager tips and getting hit on by some of the people there.  Jason stayed with you most of the time, but he would spend the nights at Wayne Manor so he wouldn’t raise suspicions on where he was going all the time.
Most of the time he lied and said that he had a date with some girl just to avoid Damian’s probing.  Jason always thought that Damian was too perceptive for his own good.  When he was with you though his sole focus was on training you to make sure that you could defend yourself whenever he wasn’t around.  The two of you had grown closer and were now more like siblings than the acquaintances that you had once been.
It was nice to have some attachment to your former life in Gotham around.  Jason often brought you news of Damian, though it wasn’t always good.  You knew he sugar coated most of it so you wouldn’t be tempted to go running back to Gotham.  There wasn’t a chance of you doing that though.  This was for your safety as well as Damian.  You couldn’t have him hating his mother if she managed to kill you.  They had a tentative relationship, but she was still his mother.
You managed to knock Jason’s katana away from him, a triumphant smile on your face and he chuckled.  “Okay, enough for today I gotta get ready for work.”
Jason understood and watched you hurry off to get ready for the evening shift at the diner.
Damian stood before his mother's cell.  She was alone on this block and sitting on the cot at the farthest wall staring at her son.  It had been five minutes since his arrival and neither of them had spoken a word to the other.  Finally Talia sighed, “Why so sad Damian?  Afraid of what may happen to your dear mother?”
Damian kept his stoic look, “No, I’m sure whatever punishment they can come up with will be adequate enough.”
Talia cocked her head to the side and studied her son, “You seem different.  Does this have to do with that person you were dating?”
Damian narrowed his eyes at his mother, the first time he had shown any emotion since arriving, “Do not speak their name.”
She grinned, “I had plans to kill them.  They were such a distraction, but then they died and I guess I didn’t have to worry about them anymore.”  Damian clenched his fists.  “Although I did hear something interesting.  A little birdie told me that they saw someone who looked suspiciously like Y/N and Jason in a little town not far from Gotham.  I wonder what they could be doing there.”
Damian stepped closer to his mother’s cell, “Talk.”
AFTER
The bell on the door to the diner where you worked dinged and you called over your shoulder, “Take a seat wherever you’d like, I’ll be with you in a moment.”  You hear retreating footsteps and continued working on the table that had been recently vacated.  When you stood and turned you dropped the tray.  Damian was sitting a few tables behind you just staring, his face unreadable.
One of your coworkers rushed over and started saying your name, but you were hearing her through a filter.  It was almost like you had been submerged in water and everything was muffled.  Damian was here.  Damian was here and he was staring at you.
He knew you were alive.
You wanted to bolt for the door and try to escape, tell Jason to play it off as if Damian had been seeing things, but you knew that would never work.  He was too smart to believe something as simple as that.
“Y/N,” your coworker shook you, her eyes going to the man at the table you were staring at.  The two of you were looking at each other so intensely, but you were shaking.  “Are you okay?  Should I call someone?”
“No Celia,” you finally found your voice.  “I need to clock out early.  Can you cover the last part of my shift?”
“Yeah, yeah go ahead, it’s dead in here anyway,” you winced at her word choice and quickly ducked into the back.
Celia walked over to the man whose eyes had followed your every move.  “Listen, I don’t know who you think you are,” her voice drew his attention away from the door that you disappeared through.  “But you better not hurt Y/N.”
Damian merely smiled at the woman, “Y/N is an old friend, they didn’t know I was coming, I just shocked them is all.”
Celia eyed him skeptically, but nodded and headed to the opposite side of the diner to take care of some more customers that had come in.  Meanwhile you were in the back on the phone with Jason.
“Damian’s here,” your voice shook and you glanced over your shoulder to make sure he hadn’t followed you here.  “How is he here?”
Jason was cursing, “I was just about to call you.  Bruce took him to see his mother, the League captured her and she’s in their custody for the moment.  She told him that you were still alive, how she knew I have no clue.  I was gonna move you, I’ve been getting our things together here, I thought we would have more time.  Y/N, I’m sorry.”
You let out a breath and squared your shoulders, “Well if she’s in custody then there’s no reason for me to be in hiding anymore, and especially if she knew I wasn’t dead.”
“Right, but still this was a big surprise for you.  Are you going to be okay?”  His concern made you smile, he really was like an older brother to you.
“I’ll be fine, I owe him an explanation,” you said.  “I just hope he isn’t too angry.”
“I’ll let you and Damian have some time alone so you can talk.  Just let me know if you need anything and I’ll come running,” he offered.
The two of you said your goodbyes and hung up.  You gathered your things from your locker in the back and waved goodbye to the cook and entered the main portion of the diner again.  Damian was still at the table with a cup of coffee before him.  He was watching the steam rising from the surface before lifting the cup to his lips and taking a drink.
You couldn’t quite believe that he was here and that he knew you were alive.  Sighing, you walked back over to him, “Hello Damian.”
He looked up, his expression unreadable, “Y/N.”
You flinched at the flatness to his voice, “Let’s go somewhere more private.  If we don’t our business will be all over town.”  He stood and followed you out to your car, he watched as you fiddled with your keys wondering what was going through your mind at that moment.
The two of you slipped into your car and took off toward the place you called home.  The first five minutes were quiet as the two of you just sat there not sure who should speak first.  Finally you couldn’t take it anymore and asked, “Are you mad?”
It took him a moment to answer and that had your heart beating wildly in your chest, “At you?  No.  At the others?  A little.”
“We didn’t want to have to do this, Damian,” you glanced at him, but in the darkness you couldn’t see his face well.  “Your dad wanted to protect the both of us.  He wanted to try and protect me and salvage what was left from your relationship with your mom.”
“He should have told me the truth,” Damian’s voice was low as he spoke as if he were trying to hold in his anger as best he could.  “I could have protected you.  You were my partner, and I should have known.  Instead, all of you let me believe that you were dead for seven months.”
“Your mother had to believe I was actually dead,” you argued.  “Would you have been able to do that?”  He was silent.  “Don’t just blame your dad, it was a joint decision, and not an easy one to make at that.”
You had pulled into your driveway now and the two of you just sat there in silence.  Damian was thinking things over, thinking over what he wanted to say to you next.  “Are you going to disappear again?”
“No, not again,” you told him.  “With your mother in custody I think I’m okay for now.”
“Then come home with me,” he said, his gaze turning to you at last.  He reached over and took your hand.  “Be with me again.”
You looked down at your entwined hands and then glanced back up at him wondering if this was a good idea.  “Damian--”
“Please,” his voice broke and he held onto you a little bit tighter.  “I can’t lose you again, not now when I know you’re alive.”
You pulled Damian into your arms and held him tightly, he squeezed you back, both of you relieved to be in each other’s arms again.  “Give me a few more months here.  Let me finish doing things here, I’m training with Jason and I want to complete that and to be honest I’m not ready to dive back into Gotham life again.”
He pulled back and cupped your face in his hands, “I understand, and take all the time you need.  But can I make a request?”
You tilted your head and said, “Depends on what the request is?”
He chuckled, “It’s nothing serious or bad.  I was just going to ask if I can come visit you and maybe help you train?”
You smiled, your heart feeling full, “Yes!  Did you really think I was going to turn you down?”
He shrugged, “I wasn’t sure if you would still want space to kinda come to terms with the fact that I know and that I want you to come back to Gotham with me.”
“I want to come back,” you assured him.  “And I’d love to train with you.  I’m kinda excited to show you my katana skills.  Jason says I’m pretty good.”
He grinned at you, “Yeah?”
“Mmhm,” you hummed and snuggled closer to him.  “Stay tonight?”  You asked, you weren’t ready to let him go just yet, not when you hadn’t held him for so long.
“Of course, don’t think for a second I’m going to leave you for the next couple of days.  I want to hear everything,” he said.  “I want to hear what the last seven months have been going.”
The two of you curled up in your bed together and you just talked.  You told him about the friends you had made and what your job was like.  You told him about your training with Jason and how frustrated you had been at first.  Damian listened while tracing patterns on your back.  And slowly you grew more tired and your words slurred, soon you were asleep and Damian smiled.
Kissing your forehead he whispered, “Goodnight, Y/N,” before closing his eyes and falling asleep himself.

12. We dated back in highschool then you moved away but now you're back in town.
(for @legitpumpkin an AU in which the Kent's and Wayne's live in the same neighborhood of whatever town you'd like to pick.)
"Hey, did you hear the news?"
Jon looked up, eyebrows knitted together, his tongue was poking out of his mouth from his hyper concentration.
"What?" He asked absently, looking away from his brother back to his laptop, returning to reading his article.
Kon said something about Tim and someone coming back.
"Cool," Jon responded in that same absent tone.
"Jon, you literally did not hear a word I just said did you?"
Jon just shook his head, quickly deleting and rewriting a section.
"Leave him alone, Kon, he has deadlines to meet," Chris inputted from where he was laying on the sofa beside Jon, at an awkward angle so his feet weren't on the younger man.
"Fine. Pardon me for trying to tell him that his former lover is back in town."
"What?" Jon asked, interest mildly peaked now.
"Damian's back home for the summer."
The rapid click-clacking of Jon's keys completely stopped, and he blinked at Kon.
"And Tim says he's thinking about moving back to the States completely."
"Oh-" Jon breathed out.
"You should go talk to him," Chris suggested, pushing at his knee.
"Yeah.... God it's been what, five, six years?"
"Six. Five, since you guys broke up."
Jon hummed, returning to clicking away at his computer.
"Are you still in love with him?" Chris asked, looking at his phone.
"I don't know? It's been five years, Chris, I haven't seen him except maybe in passing once or twice. We don't really talk except occasionally commenting on each other's social media posts."
"Who?"
They all looked up when Lois walked in.
"Damian. He's back home," Kon supplied.
"Oh! Yes. Bruce just invited us over for dinner, actually."
"He what?" All three boys exclaimed at once.
"Yup! At six, which means you three need to be showered and wearing nice clothes!"
"Oh yes, how dare we show up to our childhood best friends house in our jorts and tanktops."
"Kon, we all know Dick would absolutely destroy you for wearing jorts," Chris said with a snort. "I'll go take first shower since busy body over here is still working."
"Look! Once I get this article turned in, I'm officially on break, but this is a pretty big story so I need to make sure it's perfect before I send it to the editors," Jon defended himself to empty air, as Kon and Chris had both already left.
He sighed and returned to typing.
An hour later, everyone was clean and dressed and they all took the short walk down the block to the Wayne's house together. The Wayne residence was the largest, and loudest building in the neighborhood. There were always people coming and going, and always children around, despite the fact that none of Bruce's kids had their own families yet. They could hear yelling inside before they even got to the front door, and Jon smiled at the fond memories that hit him. Clark stepped up and knocked on the door, and within a minute, the door was yanked open by Dick Grayson.
"Hey guys!" He exclaimed with a bright grin, immediately hugging Clark, and then Lois, and then all three of the boys.
"Hello, Dick."
"Come on in! Dad and Alfie are just finishing dinner, I think the others got kicked into the living room at some point, they were being too noisy."
"Aren't they always?" Jon asked with a smile, his writers mind already crafting out how he would report on this evening.
"Hey, now, Jonno," Dick said with a laugh, having to reach up to ruffle Jon's hair. "Man I miss when you were only this tall."
He held a hand down by his waist, shaking his head at the 6"2" man and tsking.
"Anyway! Come on!"
"I'm gonna pop into the kitchen," Lois said, and disappeared. Clark hesitated before following.
The boys just followed Dick deeper into the house where yelling and barking was coming from the family room. They entered and discovered Cassandra and Jason wrestling on the floor. Tim and Damian sat on the furniture, and Ace running around barking in dismay.
"Guys!" Dick protested, crossing his arms.
Cass let go of Jason, who rolled to his feet, sticking his tongue out at her. She immediately blew a raspberry before flipping up.
"Kon!" Tim exclaimed, jumping out of his seat and running to hug his friend.
Jon however, had made eye contact with Damian. And hot. Damn. Jon met Damian when he was 10. He had seen Damian grow up, had personally witnessed the awkward teen years where Damian had been growing into his own body and face. Hell he had dated Damian through the tail end of it. He knew Damian was an attractive person - look at his parents, it was the only logical thing to happen - but he had some how gotten hotter???
Damian would be around twenty-six by now, he was tall, maybe not as tall as Jon, but he couldn't quite be certain from this distance. His face was angular and defined, not quite the sharp features of his father, but more delicate and feminine like Talia. Everything about him screamed neatness, from his trimmed eyebrows, and clean shaven face, to his carefully styled hair and clothing. His hair was a different style the Jon last remembered seeing, shaved short on the sides and longer in the back, styled in a quiff. He was wearing black jeans and a button down, and Jon could see a gold necklace hanging around his throat. His beautiful, full lips curled into a soft smile as he scanned over Jon, before lazily pushing up to his feet. Oh yeah, Jon was definitely still taller.
"Hello, Jonathan," he said with a sweet smile, walking over.
His legs were still long and lanky, and he still walked with an insane amount of grace, a habit he had picked up from when he used to do ballet.
"Hi," Jon breathed out, finding himself completely awestruck.
Damian walked right up to him, hugging him gently. Jon immediately hugged him back, noting that he smelled like vanilla and citrus, but not in a bad way.
"It's good to see you," Damian said softly. His accent had thickened significantly in the past few years, and damn that was hot too.
"Yeah, oh my God, it's been forever." Jon pulled back to look at Damian again, his hand lingering on his arm.
Damian smiled up at him, his green eyes flicking over Jon's face. "Five years, really. Not forever."
"Okay, no, but it is a long time. Where all have you been at?" Jon asked, letting Damian push him out of the room where their siblings were talking loudly.
"I've been all over. Finished my schooling in Switzerland, and then spent sometime traveling around Europe. Then I've been in the Middle East with mother for the past few years. I enjoyed the traveling, but I think I'm ready to be back home."
"Wow. You'll have to tell me all about it!" Jon said, eyes wide with amazement.
Damian chuckled, nodding. "I'm sure we'll have time. You're a journalist now, no?"
"Yeah! Just hit my one year mark with the company I work for right now," Jon said with a proud grin.
"That's good, do you enjoy it?"
"Oh yeah, it always keeps me on my toes. I very rarely get bored with it."
"Okay! Dinner is ready!"
Jon jolted with the suddenness of Bruce's yell. Damian chuckled, looking past Jon at Bruce who was waving them over.
Dinner was nice and loud and noisy and Jon was hit with this painful realization of "Holy Shit Maybe I Am Still In Love With Damian" and he desperately needed to tell his brothers this development, but he didn't know how to do it slyly. So he just sat there in gay turmoil for a whole hour of a dinner. Then, while the others were heading to the living room, Damian snagged his hand and pulled him to the front door, clipping a leash on Ace and then walking outside. Jon followed silently, curious what was going on.
"Do you remember when we used to just go on walks around the neighborhood?"
"I remember sneaking over to your house a couple times in the middle of the night just to go on those walks," Jon answered, watching Ace sniff a bush. "And I remember getting my ass whooped the week my mom found out."
"And yet you kept doing it all through highschool," Damian said with an amused glance towards him.
"What do you expect. I was young, dumb and in love."
Damian chuckled, glancing down the road before crossing it.
"So, fill me in on what you've been up too since I left for Switzerland."
"Oh. Nothing wild, finished college, got my major in journalism, and minor in psychology. Got my job the same month as graduation, moved out in August, and I've just kinda been focusing on work since."
Damian hummed. "You always have been a bit of a busybody."
"Hey!"
Damian just grinned and gently nudged Jon.
"So, shall I just ask the awkward question?"
"What awkward question."
"Do you have a boyfriend?"
"Oh!" Jon felt his cheeks heat up and then he shrugged. "No, not right now. I dated a few guys in college, but not anyone for a while."
Damian hummed and nodded.
"Uh. What about you?"
"No. With all the traveling, and living in the Middle East..."
Jon nodded in understanding, pausing as Ace darted in front of him. Without thinking he took the leash from Damian and let Ace smell the along the other side of the sidewalk.
"So what are you going to be doing, now that you're back? Working for your dad?"
"No, probably not. I'm going to resume my modeling career, and I'll be working as a environmental ambassador, just little things like that."
"Oh, cool."
Damian hummed, putting his hands in his pockets. They crossed the street and started to head back home.
"So we're totally gonna start hanging out then, right?"
"Well of course, you're one of my best friends," Damian said with a smile.
"Even though I'm your ex?"
"Jon, dating you was some of the best years of my life."
"Oh," Jon said softly, feeling his face heat up.
Damian chuckled and shook his head, smiling at Jon fondly.
Oh yeah, Jon still had feelings for Damian.

Silver & Steel Chapter 2
Tumblr media
My Masterlist || Series Masterlist || AO3
Chapter 2:
She was gone in the morning, and the man stumbled out of the tavern, rubbing his forehead as what must have been a hangover pounded in his brain.
The Wolf looked on, pleased.
By the end of the week, half a dozen villagers, both men and women, filled the tavern. Talia reclined on her chair, feet propped on the back of one man who knelt on the hard, wooden floor. A woman held a goblet of wine, another beside her holding a full pitcher. They followed one evening, as she approached the tower, standing at the base, arms folded across her chest. A shadow crossed the highest window, lingering for a moment before disappearing. She raised an eyebrow in silent challenge and turned, sauntering away, leaving the group behind her. They seemed confused at first, but something changed, and they slowly turned to each other in understanding. Eyes clouded, they descended on one another, hands roaming and clothes tearing until they were naked, writhing against each other. Talia watched from down the street as she leaned against a nearby building, arms folded across her chest. It didn’t take long for the other villagers to realize what was happening, and she chuckled to herself as they continued to mindlessly writhe in pleasure despite the shouts and pulls of their loved ones.
She didn’t need to turn to know who approached from behind; his amusement fell from him in waves, satisfaction warming across her skin. “Rogers.”
“Enjoying yourself?”
A low chuckle sent goosebumps across her neck. “He’ll be happy.”
“Only if the coward shows himself.” She shrugged, feigning modesty, but she couldn’t help but be proud of the chaos she sewed. There was more crying, more shouting, and still the moans and heavy breathing continued.
“How long will you let this go on?”
She glanced back at the blonde who tilted his head as he watched the crowd only to chuckle at her shrug. “I want to see how long it will take for him to do something.”
“He’s grown softer. Innkeeper told me he heals the villagers when they’re sick.” He scoffed. “Apparently there was a bad drought a few years ago. He managed to save almost all the crops.”
“How generous of him,” Talia replied dryly. Rogers only hummed in agreement. They waited, watching in amusement as the villagers continued their pointless fight against waking those she’d charmed so thoroughly. It took nearly an hour until she noticed something move across a high window in the tower, nudging Rogers to catch his attention. The faintest shadow passed and something dropped from the window releasing a puff of blue mist as it fell. One by one, the mist covered them, slowly releasing them from their charm and the moans and sighs turning into fearful cries.
They weren’t surprised, and neither was The Wolf when they returned to the inn, reporting the mage’s reaction. He only sipped his ale, humming faintly in recognition. The mage had stopped Talia’s charm, but he knew there was more to come. Besides, The Wolf thought, he was enjoying the village thus far and wouldn’t mind spending more time there. He slowly dragged his gaze to the innkeeper who quickly ushered his daughter into the kitchen, narrowing his eyes at the intrusive stare. The Wolf only grinned. He was hungry.
The door burst open and Collette jumped up from where she knelt behind the counter in search of a dropped coin. The look on her mother’s face told her all she needed to know, and when Mr. Rye came around the corner, he nodded wordlessly for her to go. “What’s happened?”
“His fever’s returned,” her mother said, taking her hand as they rushed through the village. “He’s calling out for your father.”
“But-“
“The fever is making him delirious!” Collette reached for the door, but her mother stopped her, laying a hand on her daughter’s.
Her heart stopped. “No.”
“I’m sorry.” Collette shook her head, but her mother only pulled her closer.
“There has to be a way to save him!”
She looked up at her mother, tears filling both of their eyes. “Collette, there is nothing else we can do.”
“The mage-“
“Is preoccupied with those… people.” Mother replied. “It’s not safe!”
“The herbs then? Do you have any left?” When her mother shook her head, Collette stepped back, leaning against the door frame. “I’ll get them.”
“It’s nearly nightfall!”
“I’ll take the lantern!” She was shaking, and though she hated the hurt look her mother gave her, she pushed away her fear. “I can’t lose him too!”
**
“Come on!” Rogers shouted, his sword in one hand, a tankard of ale in the other. “Is that all you’ve got?” His armor had long before been shed at the inn and he staggered across the dirt road, calling out insults as the village guard followed him.
“Please, sir,” one called, “please, go back to your room!”
Rogers pointed his sword at the boy, barely sixteen, as he chugged the last of the ale and tossed the tankard at him. His grip was loose, his legs wobbly, but the striking blue of his eyes were clear, taking in every detail of the guard. Two young men, barely twenty, and two older men, fifty at the youngest, flanked him on either side. He’d allowed them to think they had the upper hand, especially after his performance at the inn. He’d nearly drank an entire cask on his own, though it barely had any effect on him these days. But the village guard didn’t need to know that.
Their ignorance made it all the more fun.
“Please go back to your room!” Rogers taunted, his voice a shrill falsetto. “I’ll go where I damn well please!”
The guard flinched back at his retort, their swords raised, ready to defend. It was admirable, Rogers thought, but they’d never stand a chance. The rustle of chains caught his attention, and he wondered which of the men behind him held the irons that they’d try – and fail – to lock him in. It didn’t matter, he’d escape regardless.
But first, more fun.
He swung his sword at nothing in particular, releasing a loud growl before staggering down the street, grinning to himself as the guards ushered the late-night wanderers back into their homes. He planned on wandering about the village to see just how far the guards would go to restrain him, but an unfamiliar scent caught his attention as he turned down another street.
Fear.
Though it wasn’t fear of him. A lantern glowed lowly as a villager stepped outside, their cloak pulled up over their head. Neither the guards nor the villager noticed each other at first, but Rogers enjoyed their ignorance and stumbled closer, curious about the foolishly brave person who came out so late. The younger guard, one closest to the villager, rushed over, his hands grasping their shoulders.
“Miss Collette, please,” he said, pulling her back toward her home. “Please, you must go back inside. It’s not safe.”
The woman, whose face he could now clearly see, only shook her head. “I cannot. The fever is getting worse!”
“Please-“
Rogers let out a long whistle, twirling his sword as he made his way closer, but the guard approached, blocking his path to the woman who took off behind the house and into the woods. Collette could feel his stare bore through her, but she refused to look back; she hoped the guards could subdue the drunk man soon. Rogers grinned, the sharp glint of his fangs illuminated in the dim torch light. Oh, her fear smelled so sweet. Perhaps, he thought, he would go for a hunt tonight.
“Sir, please return to the inn!” One of the older guards called, and Rogers turned quicker than they’d anticipated, freezing the in their steps.
“No, I don’t think I will.”
Collette shuddered at the feel of his gaze; she didn’t need to turn back to know he was watching her. Who were these people? And why did they harass their village? It didn’t matter, not at that moment. No, she needed the herbs. Her mother had used the last of them shortly after she returned home from the bakery, allowing her to speak to her brother for a short while. The herbs gave him a chance to break the fever, and though it was a small chance, she had to take it. She could not bear to lose another to the same fever.
The forest, of course, was dark though slits of moonlight pierced through the treetops. The herbs grew an hour’s trek from her home and though she knew the way, she held tightly to her lantern. The forest was dangerous at night, and the stranger’s stare still caused her unease. Nevertheless, she continued on. So deep in thought, she didn’t notice how silent the forest had grown, the crickets and owls ceasing their calls until all she could hear was her own heartbeat.
A low growl caught her attention and she turned, coming face to face with the drunk man from the village. “Lost, little one?” She staggered back, stunned. How did he find her? How did she not hear him coming? “The woods are dangerous at night.” His lips pulled back in a sharp grin, elongated canines sending a shock of fear down her spine.
“Go- go away!” She shouted, her voice breaking, but he only laughed.
One huge hand grasped the collar of her cloak and pulled her close, the lantern falling from her grasp. “Are you afraid, little one?”
“I – I…”
“I want you to do something for me. Do you think you can?” He asked, prompting her to nod. “Good girl. I want you to run.”
He released her and she stumbled back. “What?”
His grin grew impossibly wider as he leaned in, his hot breath tickling her ear. “Run.”
No sooner had he said the word, she was running down the familiar path, her now torn cloak falling to the ground behind her. She knew the way to the herbs, but there was no telling if she’d make it there, let alone back home.
She had to try.
The forest was silent save for the pounding of her feet on the hard earth, breaking the fallen twigs along the well-worn path. Would he follow it? Would she even be able to make her way silently through the forest if she abandoned the familiar way? Somewhere behind her, somewhere too close, a branch snapped. Could she hide? Collette veered off the path and into the trees, flinching as an errant branch caught her cheek, another her arm. She could hear the river now, and knew she was close to the herbs. If she could get across the river, perhaps she could hide in the forest there; it was more rocky and filled with better hiding spots she knew from her childhood games.
The burning in her lungs forced her to stop, leaning against a large tree to catch her breath. Her heart beat in her ears and she doubled over gasping for breath. But her rest was short lived. “I know you’re here.” He called out, “I can smell your fear, little one.” A branch crunched to her left, so she turned to the right and ran straight into a solid mass. She couldn’t hold back the scream as Rogers grasped her arm, keeping her upright. “I didn’t mean to frighten you, little one.” He was all condescension and she took off in the opposite direction. Now, it didn’t matter where she ran as long as she could get away.
Behind her, a long howl echoed through the forest.
**
The swordsman sighed, pushing the hair from his face, earning an eye-roll from the young man. “Of course we’ll help you.” The young man replied, ignoring the glare from the swordsman. “I’m Jaskier. This is Geralt of Rivia, the only White Wolf.”
“Collette,” She replied. “Thank you. I don’t know what would have happened if I hadn’t found you.”
“We’re always glad to help a damsel in need.” Jaskier replied with a small, yet dramatic bow which Collette found foolish, though in a strangely charming way.
“These are Ly- what?” She asked and Geralt nodded.
“Lycanthropes.” He replied. “Humans who can turn into a wolf. You said they attacked the village?” Collette nodded. “Tell me what happened.”
“That man, the White Wolf, showed up with two others demanding to speak to our mage.” Collette began.
“There’s a woman and two men, though I’ve heard of another man who stays hidden.” Collette took a drink, though she didn’t return the skin. “She made people do things in the middle of the market. They’re trying to get to our mage, though I don’t know why. The other man, the one who was the lycanthrope, he was wandering the village, just taunting our guard. He followed me-“
Jaskier rubbed her back, glancing at Geralt who stared into the fire, his mind far away. “You’re safe now. He can’t hurt you anymore.”
“And the other man? Who is he?”
“He calls himself The White Wolf.” Geralt scoffed and Jaskier gasped, his hand pressed over his chest in outrage.
“The White Wolf?” he asked and she nodded. “No, no, no, there is only one White Wolf and he is sitting before you!”
“Now is not the time, bard,” Geralt spat. “What does he look like?”

late night doodle bc I came up with an au idea
AU where Bruce adopts Barbara, Steph, Cass and Harper instead of the batboys
Damian never exists; Bruce doesn’t sleep with Talia
Barbara is adopted by Jim Gordon after his brother and his sister in law, Barbara’s parents, die (as per canon.) When she’s six he is killed by the Joker on live tv, forcing Barbara to watch. Bruce is too late to save Gordon and puts the blame for his death on himself, and tries to atone by giving Barbara a home. Raising a daughter keeps him busy so he doesn’t visit Haley’s circus when it visits Gotham. Dick’s parents fall to the floor, and instead of Bruce, the Court of Owls have their arms open to him.
Steph’s father is cluemaster but he’s put in Arkham early in her childhood. Stephanie’s mother is unable to overcome her addiction to pharmaceuticals (unlike in canon) and this ends in her death. 6 year old Stephanie runs away from her social worker and ends up finding the batmobile in an alley. She hides under the car and her social worker passes by, but when Batman arrives she jumps out to avoid getting run over. He tries to take her back to foster care but she throws a rock at him and runs. Bruce decides to adopt her instead once he finds out her father is cluemaster, and once she tries Alfred’s waffles she agrees to ‘let him’ adopt her
Harper Row is taken away from her alcoholic father when she’s 4 and is the only kid to end up with Bruce in a normal way. He’s officially a foster parent and she’s placed with him. She tells Bruce that she had a brother, Cullen, who she hadn’t seen since being taken away from her father but Bruce is unable to figure out where he’d gone. He’s never been registered in the foster care database and none of the workers that picked up Harper recalled there being another child.
When the Justice League encounters Lady Shiva, she fights them and defeats Batman, but the combined forces of Wonder Woman and Superman force her capture and she’s questioned under the lasso. She tells them about her origin and that a man named David Cain had her biological daughter and was training her to be an assassin. Batman realizes that the daughter in question is still only 6, and adds her and David to his search for Cullen. He finds her being trained by David to be a ruthless killer and rescues her. He realizes that she’s mute and can’t grow up in a regular foster system so he takes her home with him.
Babs is batgirl before she’s paralyzed at 17, and when Steph is older she doesn’t feel right taking on the batgirl name, so she becomes Robin.
At the same time, Harper spends years trying to find her brother, Cullen, taking on the codename bluebird in the meantime. Bruce takes her on as his partner, not his sidekick, which drives a wedge between her and Steph.
Cass refuses it at first but takes it when she turns 18, deciding to train again, but this time to defend Gotham, and not kill. She becomes batgirl at 19
When Bruce ‘dies’ for half a year, Cass gives the mantle of Batgirl to Steph and goes to Hong Kong to become Black Bat. Harper moves in with Steph and befriends Tim, who believes that Bruce is alive. Nobody takes the mantle of Batman after Bruce’s ‘death.’
After he is rescued by Tim and Steph, Bruce returns to Gotham. Cass returns to be Black Bat and Steph goes back to being Spoiler, though he and Steph finally reconcile.
They find out that Cullen was taken by the Court of Owls and turned into a Talon, and when they try to rescue him, they discover that a second Talon had taken a liking to him and refused to let them rescue him
So of course they take both Talons home. Bruce discovers that the second Talon is Dick Grayson and with Martian Manhunter’s help, they help them learn how to be human again
Jason, forced to work as a goon for two-face to earn money to support his mother, was a hostage of the Joker and beaten almost to death before Batman saved him. He wants to drive Batman to finally break his code and kill so that he’ll kill the Joker. After a fight between them that almost ends in Jason dying, Batman backs off and doesn’t turn him into the police. Bruce leaves him there, acknowledging that Crime Alley is his territory.
Anyway I’ll probably write this into a fic ✨

Chapter 2
Chapter 2 ---- Hate Me (Blue October)
“It’s been two days, why hasn't she woken up yet?”
“Give it time Master Timothy. Sometimes it takes time for Kryptionans to heal.”
A sigh is heard and I feel a gentle squeeze on my right hand and a soft kiss on the left side of my forehead. “Trust me, she’s healed by now. This is just the rest she needs before she wakes up.” A soft touch on my foot causes me to sigh softly in my sleep, “It’s okay Dick, Clark, Alfred and I will watch her. You should go be with your fiancé.”
My right hand is lifted and a kiss is placed on it. ‘Don’t leave me.’ The squeeze on my hand tightens and another kiss happens before my hand is lowered to my side and the warmth of the hand holding mine is gone. ‘Marshmallow? Please, stay.’
A whisper is right beside my right ear, “I wish I had waited for you. Please wake up soon Princess.” Hearing his clothes move as he stands up, “You’ll tell me when she wakes up? Even if I’m with Babs?” All the breathing in the room stops for a moment as I can feel all their eyes on me. “Bruce, Clark, I’m sorry.” Footsteps echo through the cave as Dick walks up and out causing a silent tear to slip from my eye.
“So everyone replaced me?” My voice is soft as my eyes are still closed. Hearing Bruce take the chair on my right where Dick just sat he sighs while Clark sits on my left side. “I know. I just disappeared. There was no trace, no leads, no news. I was just gone. Locked away in a warehouse in New Mexico. Experimented on. Abused, used, broken down and turned into Lex Luthor and Ra’s Al Ghul’s personal plaything and a weapon.” I sigh as I slowly open my eyes. “You know what kept me going?”
Clark looks at me with water in his eyes but a straight face, “The fact your family is out there?” His voice betrays the emotion in his eyes. It’s cold and distant, making me push myself into the bed to hide.
“Clark. Stop it.” Bruce chides him and looks at me with questioning eyes, “Was it Dick? Because it wasn’t even a week after you disappeared that we found out that you two were soulmates.” His eyes watch mine with an intense look.
“It wasn’t just him. And It wasn’t just knowing my family was out there. It was every time Cat was sent to fight, I would get to see you. Hear you and be with you. Even if you were attacking me and didn’t know it was me. I got to be with you again.” I sigh and try to sit up until Clark shakes his head gently pushing me back down. “Right, damage to my body from the pure Kryptonite.” I try to giggle, “This was my 30th attempt at escaping. Surprised Lex hasn't called or an assassin hasn’t been sent to find me.”
Both Bruce and Clark look at eachother, “A red hooded, gun wielding man was there right after you fainted.” My eyes widen and Bruce continues, “He made us promise to keep you safe and away from your masters.”
“Wait!” I sit up fast and hiss gripping the blankets tight from the pain, “He showed himself to you? Is he here? Bruce I need to see Zombie.” I close my eye tight and breath slowly as I ease myself to remain sitting up. “It’s okay. I’m okay. Just breathe Lyds. Breathe.” In through my nose and out through my mouth I’m breathing until the pain passes and I look to Bruce with excitement.
Bruce raises an eyebrow, “He never said his name he just made us promise to keep you away from Lex and Ra’s. After that he disappeared, what’s his importance Lydia?” Bruce leans forward putting his elbows on his knee and his hands under his chin.
“I’m not allowed to tell. That’s his place when he is ready to confront you. Just give the Zombie time.” I sigh and look over at the different Robin costumes Bruce keeps in the cave. “He will return one day. I promise that.” I turn back, “I’m the reason she’s in a wheelchair.”
“Who?”
A soft smirk plays on my lips, “My soulmate’s fiance.” My eyes flash red quickly then back to my natural green color.
“What.” Bruce’s voice is a low soft growl causing my breathing to stop for a moment from fear.
I watch both of them stand up and look at me like I’m Lex Luthor or Doomsday ready to attack them. They both get in a stance to either defend themselves or attack me. “It was a mission from Ra’s that went wrong. J was never supposed to be involved and I was only supposed to make her suffer.” I look Bruce in the eyes as I hover out of the bed and onto the floor. Little did I know Dick and Barbara were around the corner listening.
***Flashback***
I stand straight as a board in the presence of the Great One. Ra’s walks slowly back and forth in front of me. My eyes stay straight looking out the window behind him with Talia and Damien in the corners of my eyes beside the window. Ra’s stops in front of me placing his hands behind his back.
“The girl is to suffer, no permanent damage is to come from her. Your mission is to go in, get information about what Bruce Wayne is doing. Fight back if necessary, no killing. This needs to be a quick and clean mission. Thus, why I chose you, my Death Angel.” He smirks at the name and my body gives a slight shudder at his facial feature.
“Yes master. I will do as you ask.” My eyes move from looking behind him to looking into his soulless eyes. “I will find Barbara Gordon and get the information from the former Batgirl. She will talk.” My eyes flash red and the light from them illuminates Ra’s face for a split second then becomes dimly light by the candle lit surrounding us.
‘He just wants to know where Uncle Bruce is so Talia can play the man again. Trip to Gotham City here I come.’ I walk with a passion down the hall of the compound to my small dimly lit Kryptonite covered room. I grab my black katana, two dark grey and green daggers and a duffel bag of civilian clothes. ‘Barbara Gordon, be ready for Cat.’
I walk out of my room to see Damien Wayne standing with his left hand on the hilt of his sword. “Cat.”
“Child.”
Damien rolls his eyes as a frown appears on his lips, “Tt, I am ten years old and better at combat then you, alien.”
My eyes glow a deep red as I push him out of the way and start to walk away, “Damien, learn to hold your tongue, aliens are known to kill the weak ones below us.”  I hear him muttering off in the distance as I leave the compound building. Running along the top of the wall until I leap and fly off into the air.
‘So, coming to Gotham? Does that mean I finally get to meet the Princess in my head?’ I softly giggle at the voice in my head as I hear the all to0 familiar voice in my head.
‘Sadly Marshmallow, no. I won’t be able to meet you. I have been tasked to meet Barbara Gordon.’ It’s going to be a long trip back to Gotham from somewhere in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. What if I can give Barbara a note letting Bruce know where I am and I could finally be free and go home. I look up and barrel roll to my left to avoid a dolphin jumping out of the water. “Magnificent.”
Landing on top of the Wayne Enterprises building looking down at the people in broad daylight. I drop my duffel bag beside a glass class with the Bat symbol on it. I open it up and put on my civilian clothes before I become invisible and float down the back of the building and land behind a tree at the back door to the building. I become visible again before I walk out from behind the tree. "GCPD, wonder if Gordon or Cash is working today."
I open the door to the Gotham City Police Department and I see the usual chaos going on. Guards moving thugs around, breaking up fights from thugs in holding cells, and police yelling over each other. I see the door that has Commissioner Gordon's name on it with a red headed woman standing in the door. “I’ll see you later dad, I have stuff to go do.” She walks out closing the door behind her. I duck and look away as she passes by me, “Cash, I’ll see you.”
Staying in the shadows I follow the red head to her apartment building, coated in the orange glow of the setting sun. Barbara walks up into the building to the third floor, entering her apartment and turning on her computer.
“What are you looking at little girl?”
I jump back into the shadows of the alley and turn to see Joker himself, “What are you doing here clown?” My eyes narrow as I see him snarl and clinch his hands at his side. I snort and place my hand on my hip, “I’m waiting Joker. What, do you want?”
Joker takes a step towards me, “Listen here girl, I want Barbara Gordon and you, you’re gonna help me.” He pulls me more into the depths of the alley and tells me his plan.
A little while later, I become invisible and stand beside Joker at  Barbara’s front door. I sigh beside him as he knocks on her door. The instant I see the door open I quickly rush into Barbara’s apartment right as I see the Joker shoot her causing me to stop dead in my tracks. “ARE YOU INSANE Joker?” I become visible and rush to her side, “Barbara, breath, just breathe.” I hear a gun cock again and look up to see down the barrel of the gun. “Joker,” My hand slowly starts to search Barbara for a panic button to signal Batman or Alfred something bad has happened to her. “Don’t do this. She’s innocent, She hasn’t done anything to you.”
Joker pushes the gun closer to my head, “Shut up and take the photos of her.” He tosses a camera towards me and I catch it in one hand. I look at Barbara and she closes her eyes and looks away as I start taking photos of her bleeding out. Maniacal laughter fills the room before Joker grabs the camera from me and leaves.
I sit beside Barbara and apply pressure to her abdomen where the bullet went into her. “I’m sorry, that wasn’t the plan. Ra’s Al ghul sent me to get information on Bruce. Joker was never supposed to be here and you were never supposed to be hurt.” I grab her phone and dial Commissioner Gordon's number before placing a Joker card on her chest and leaving a smiling cat drawing somewhere in the apartment.
*Present day*
“YOU!” I hear Barbara before I see her. “YOU WERE THERE WHEN THIS HAPPENED.” Her wheelchair comes around the corner and she motions to her body and the wheelchair. “How dare you do this to me. You're responsible for this."
I stand up and give her a blank face while meeting her eyes, “If it wasn’t for me you would have bled to death. If it wasn’t for me Gordon would never have been called. If it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t be with my soulmate.” My eyes move from her to Richard then back to her, “I’m sorry, I was never meant to hurt you or let you be hurt. I watched over your recovery as much as I allowed to. Ra’s sent you the best doctor he could because he blamed me for letting Joker into your room.” I limp my first two steps as I walk towards her and Richard.
I look down at Barbara in her wheelchair as I stand next to her, “At least you have a family.” I stand up straight and look Richard in the eyes, “It’s fine to hate me, hate me for everything I haven’t done, but please, hate me so you can see what’s good for you.” I walk up the stairs to the kitchen to see Alfred. I write him a note with the address of my next destination before I leave.
Bruce, Clark, Barbara, and Dick are still down in the Batcave. Dick is the only one not looking up the stairs after where I went. Barbara speaks up first, “Good riddance freak.” She tries to wheel away towards the Batcomputer, however she can’t move. Dicks has a grip on the handles of her wheelchair. “Dick, you can let go now. She’s gone and won’t bother us again.” She reaches back to try and get his attention, “Come on, let’s plan our wedding.”
Dick pulls away from her torn between his heart and what he thought was his heart. “Do you blame her?” He looked at Clark and at Bruce for their answers. Bruce shakes his head as Clark shrugs. “I can’t hate her. I’m mad at her but I can’t hate her. Especially not now, not since I just got her back.”  He looks down at his hands for an answer causing his eyes to narrow as he sees a hand being placed in his.
“Forget about her Dick. She’s a freak and she tried to kill me. Lydia admitted she’s the reason I'm in this wheelchair. We should hate her like we hate all the other villains.” Barbara’s hand closes around his until Dick pulls away looking at her like she’s insane. “Please, you wouldn’t throw away our future for someone who claims to be your soulmate and you wouldn’t leave me for the person that put me in this chair.” Her eyes narrow as she looks into the blue pools that make his eyes. She’s challenging him to fall in love with a villian, with me.
“Enough.”
Everyone turns to face Clark glaring at Barbara and Dick. “Enough. She is not a villain by choice. She could have let you die Barbara, but she didn’t. She is the one letting her soulmate marry someone who isn’t her.” Clark steps closer to the couple and lets out a slow breath, “Maybe you should hate her, it would be easier for you to live with yourself.” His eyes meet Dicks before he turns and flies away.

Dawson was born on May 9, 1979, in New York City. Her mother, Isabel Celeste, is of Cuban and Puerto Rican ancestry. During that time Rosario and Clay would also grow up in Texas. Dawson has cited this part of her history when explaining how she learned that, "If you wanted something better, you had to do it all yourself."

She co-starred with former Rent alum Tracie Thoms in the Quentin Tarantino throwback movie Death Proof in 2007, part of the Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez double feature Grindhouse. ROYAL - Bruce Wayne
undefined
youtube
I've never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I'm not proud of my address, in the torn up town
No post code envy
I looked up. My gaze caught every little detail. The beautiful but fake-looking women, the handsome men, smoking expensive cigars and talking about money and their big houses. Houses like the Wayne Manor. I felt the glances of the rich men trying to undress me with their mere eyes. But it didn't really bother me, I always liked the attention of men. I always loved the way how I affected men. But this was different. They had women by their side and fucked me with their eyes.
Slowly, I made my way upstairs. My long, black coat hid my dress. Everyone wore pastel colors, it was the dress code after all. The butler of the family Wayne smiled pleasantly and nodded in my direction.
„Miss Jackson, it's a pleasure to see you at the gala. May I have your coat?"
„Alfred, please, call me Lara. You've known me for many years."
„Indeed, Lara." I smiled and took off my coat. Alfred raised an eyebrow at my dress but didn't say a thing.
„You look like your mother, Lara. She would be very proud of you."
„Thank you, Alfred. But I couldn't have done it without you." He reached his arm to me, I smiled and took it.
„I'm afraid, but Master Bruce wouldn't approve that," he made reference to the dress. It was scandalous. Scandalous red.
„Well Alfred, you should know, I don't care about the opinion of a rich man. I never did."
„I know, dear. I know." Our way led us to the big saloon, full of laughter and rich people. It wasn't my world, it will never be and still, I'm here.
But every song's like gold teeth,
Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Bloodstains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room
We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams
But everybody's like Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash
We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair
I inspected every woman and every man. There were models, actors, politicians, businessmen... rich people. Before I could do my way to a waiter serving the champagne, a young man stopped next to me. Another followed him and flashed a flirtatious smile towards me. Both had black hair, blue eyes and were muscular. They were handsome men. But too young for me.
„Good evening, my lady. You look beautiful." The one with the longer hair took my hand and kissed it.
„I must say, red fits you well, beautiful lady. May I know your name?"
„Lara Jackson. With whom do I have the pleasure?" Before any of them could answer, a little boy stepped between us, he looked like ten, but his hard look didn't belong to a child.
„Grayson, Todd. If I find this woman in anyone's room tonight, I will kill you. We don’t have time for this."
„What do you want, demon spawn?" The child huffed and crossed his arms.
„Father wants to speak with you. Both of you." Both rolled their eyes.
„I'm sorry, beautiful lady. The old man can’t have a fun night. We will see us again." The one with the white streak in his black hair kissed my cheek, the other my hand.
„Idiots. Please forgive my brothers, they don't have any respect for a good looking lady."
„It's okay. And thank you."
„You're familiar", he noticed. I just raised an eyebrow. This child was odd. Just like his father.
„Well, I know your father, Damian." His head shoots up and he frowned.
„How do you know me? Or him?"
„It was many years ago, but your father and I had a great friendship. One day he went missing and the day he came back, he wasn't the same anymore. Still, I stayed in contact with Alfred, he was a great friend and like a father to me."
„Why did my father abandon you?"
„I'm not rich." He looked confused but didn’t say anything.
„He never said something about you. Why not?"
„Again Damian. I'm not rich. I will never be like these models or actresses. I'm just a simple girl, that lived alone with her mother. It was a coincidence, that your father and I met."
And we'll never be royals
It don't run in our blood
That kind of lux just ain't for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
„Then why are you here, Jackson?"
„I wanted to see Alfred. I wanted to see the house since it was my second home. And for the last time, I wanted to feel the atmosphere at a gala."
„It sounds like a goodbye. Why? What did my father do that you are such full of hate?" I looked surprised at him.
„How?", I just asked.
„I know that look. You don't hate my father, you hate that rich life, you hate his behavior. I'm also like this. I hate my mother, well, if you can call her a mother. And I hate my stupid brothers, who get more attention from my father then I do. I know they spend more time with him and know him better, but it’s..."
„Frustrating", I finished his sentence.
„I like you." I smiled and sipped at my champagne.
„Well Damian, I like you too."
„More than your brothers." He smiled smugly and I snorted silently.
Let me be your ruler, you can call me Queen B
And baby I'll rule (I'll rule I'll rule I'll rule)
Let me live that fantasy
„If you see them, could you clarify for me, that I'm definitely not interested? They are too young. Goodlooking, but too young."
„With pleasure, Lara."
I stayed the whole evening with Damian. He was a cute child, but he would never allow anyone to say that out loud. And he looked like his father. Well, almost. His eyes were green, they must be from his mother. But I didn't ask since he made clear, that his mother was a forbidden topic.
After that evening, I spent the night with Oliver Queen. We were both drunk and afterward, I found out that he had a girlfriend. So I did the one most logical thing, I ran away and swore, I will never be just a woman for a night. These times are now past, I want to be someone special, someone, that my mother can be proud of. So I began to search for my father. I never knew or saw him. But I wanted to find him.
My friends and I we've cracked the code
We count our dollars on the train to the party
And everyone who knows us knows that we're fine with this
We didn't come from money
After months of searching and traveling around the world, I found him. Well, he found me. He didn't know he had a daughter. My mother never told him about me. But he didn't abandon me like other people. He gave me a new home, a new task. He gave me a new family. I began to train, train to defend myself, train to defend others, train to kill. Especially rich people who were assholes. I just followed my father's footsteps. You may ask now, who my father is. Im a Wilson now. My father is called Slade Wilson but feared as Deathstroke.
I was educated by the League of the Shadows also called the League of Assassins. Ra's al Guhl himself trained me and let me fight against his daughter, who is the mother of Damian. Talia al Guhl, or whatever they call her. I hate her. I hate her for manipulating Bruce and abandon her son. I hate her for her behavior, I just hate her presence. And everybody knows that. Because I almost killed her. Well, I killed her, but she was brought back with the Lazarus Pit. My father was really proud of me since nobody can stand her. I mean, she is a fucking bitch, she betrayed the League just for a son of Batman. And did so many other awful things. But that's not my problem anymore. Ra's send me to protect his grandson, the heritage of the League. The fact, Damian liked me, made my job so much easier. But I had no idea, how to become one of the Wayne family members. So we built a plan. My father as Deathstroke, would try to kill Robin and Batman, and I would save them both. After all the planning, it worked perfectly.
„Who are you?"
„Your pseud, deep voice doesnt scare me, Batman. You've just could thank me."
„Lara?"
„Hello, Damian. Its nice to see you again"
„I thought you would never come back to Gotham." I fake sighed and crossed my arms.
„Well... I was all around the world. I met your mother and I must say, she is a bitch. Sadly she survived our meeting." Batman huffed.
„And how did you know about the whole hero thing?"
„Talia is a really shitty secret keeper. She told me all about it, in the hope, I would show some mercy. Its nice to see you, Bruce."
„Who are you?"
„Its a shame, you dont recognize me, Brucie." I took my black hood off, also my mask, that hid the lower half of my face. I could feel the confusion of my childhood crush.
„Lara Jackson?"
„What a welcome." I was surprised after he hugged me. Awkwardly, I tapped his back.
„Im so sorry." That was easier than I thought.
„It’s okay, Brucie. It’s okay." Damian coughed and crossed his arms.
„Umm... can I have a bed for tonight?", I asked silently.
„You can have a bed as long as you want, Lara."
„Thank you, Bruce."
„Lets go home." He jumped off the roof, Damian followed him. I turned around and saw my father in the shadows. With a smirk, I followed the Waynes.
But every song's like gold teeth,
Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Bloodstains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room
We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams
But everybody's like Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash
We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair
I was now a month at Wayne Manor. Bruce acted a little bit strange but I didn't mind. But what I minded was his big family. He has five sons and two daughters and other family members. They didn't trust me. Richard and Jason always flirted with me, the other women in the house hated me for that. Until one day.
„Hey, beautiful. What are you doin’?" I just rose an eyebrow, a move I would do every day.
„Do you have eyes, Jason?"
„Yes, why?"
„Well, then you can see, I’m reading." He sat aside me and wiggled his eyebrows.
„Mind, if I take this book and we do something?" I tried to ignore him.
„Darlin', I know you would take me. Don't act so heartless even though its hot as fuck." And then I had enough.
„Okay, listen, Jason. I'm not interested to fuck you or Richard. I'm so much older than you, I could be your fucking mother! And if you don't stop, I’m gonna kick your fucking ass so hard, that the pit wont help you come back to life! So shut the fuck up and just let me live my fucking life! Without you or Richard or any playboy." He just blinked.
„How old are you?", he asked bluntly. I slapped him with the book. Jason yelled and ran away from the couch.
„Jason Peter Todd! Come back, you fucking asshole! I'm going to fucking killing you, you dipshit! You don't ask a woman about her age! COME BACK!" I ran after him, passing next to Richard and Tim.
„Jason!", I yelled. „Come back, you motherfucking bastard!" He sprinted downwards, trying to escape. With the speed I had gained, I jumped down and rolled off.
„What the fuck! That woman! Help! Anyone!"
„Shut up!" I tackled him down and began to punch him. Blood spattered out of his nose, ruining the expensive carpet.
„What the fuck?! Lara? Jason?" Dick tried to separate us but he also collected a punch in his nose.
„Don't touch me, you pervert!" Jason managed to escape out of my hold and we began to fight, Richard joined, after I kicked him in his stomach.
„Bruce? Alfred? Anyone? Lara is going crazy!", Tim shouted. He was smart enough to stay out of our fight. I swiped the blood out of my face, not knowing to whom it belonged.
„Still imagining how to fuck me?" Both men grunted, trying to punch me, which I easily caught. My hands gripped Richard's shoulders and I let his nose met my head. He groaned and held his nose, trying to kick me.
„Enough!" I heard Bruce's voice and stepped a little back. Jason didn't stop and punched right in my jaw. I growled and rushed forward, my legs slung around his neck, and threw him on the ground.
„Lara! Enough!" It took Bruce, Tim, and Alfred to keep me away from the second oldest.
And we'll never be royals It don't run in our blood That kind of lux just ain't for us We crave a different kind of buzz
Bruce himself stitched me up, doesn't allow anyone to come too near towards me. He forbid everyone, even Alfred, to come to the Batcave.
„Why?", he just asked. I huffed and crossed my arms.
„Why? Both were flirting with me! Its disgusting! I could be their fucking mother!"
„They are kids, Lara", he sighed and sat across me. I rolled my eyes.
„Kids don’t fight the Joker, Bruce." It was silent, we just sat there.
„Why are you like this?"
„What do you mean?" I frowned.
„You're cold. Towards me. I have the feeling, you only like Alfred and Damian", he almost whispered. I swallowed and tried to avoid his gaze.
„Bruce, I...I had a hard childhood. I just had my mother and you. You were my best friend, my first love. And when my mother passed, I was alone. I know, you were there for me, but not like the way I wanted. I changed Bruce, I'm not the glamorous girl anymore."
„Why you didn't say anything?"
„You were Bruce Wayne, the son of millionaires, the heritage of Wayne Enterprises. I was madly in love with you, I never said something because I was so scared. Scared, that you wouldnt love me back, scared you would see me just like as a friend. So I started to date other boys, boys who gave me attention in a way, who filled the gap my mother left. It was like a drug. I loved the way I affected every man. They gave me love, physically." At the end of my speech, I'd met Bruces eyes. They were soft and full of love.
„Im so sorry, Lara. I never- If I ever would know that...Do you remember your first boyfriend?" He didn't wait for an answer.
„I was so jealous and I saw you at his side it made me clear, you weren't the little girl anymore, who I met at my parents funeral. In my eyes, you were a grown, beautiful and independent woman. That day I realized, I loved you from the first day and still do." My eyes grew big. How?
„You still love me?", I whispered.
„I do." I almost melted at these words. My fucking childhood crush, my first love, loves me. He smiled and leaned towards me. Our noses touched, my eyes fluttered. He stopped, obviously waiting for me. I sighed when our lips finally met. We kissed slowly, without any tongue. It was a romantic kiss, heck, he would top every Hollywood movie. We parted, his lips brushed against mine. Bruce cupped my face with his hands and kissed me again. Roughly. A light moan escaped my lips, my hands tugged his black hair. He groaned deeply and heat rushed downwards all around my body. His arms pulled me nearer to him. Slowly, while kissing him, I climbed on his lap. But before it could go any farther, Alfred cleared his throat. I blushed and tried to hide my face in Bruce's neck while he just chuckled.
Let me be your ruler, you can call me Queen B
And baby I'll rule (I'll rule I'll rule I'll rule)
Let me live that fantasy
Everything was perfect. As perfect as it could be in such a chaotic family. Since I beat up Jason and Richard, everyone tries to not piss me off. I warmed up to the girls and also Tim. Everything was perfect until Talia showed up. She and some traitors of the league managed to break into the Manor and tied the whole Wayne Family up.
„Hello, Lara. Its nice to see you again." A mad smile graced her face. I didn't respond and gripped the handle of my sword harder.
„Why are you here, Talia?"
„Oh I don’t know, maybe to kill you?" I rolled my eyes.
„Besides that." She grinned widely at me.
„I want my son back."
„No." She frowned, the Waynes behind me began to protest.
„No? Who do you think you are? I’m the mother of him!"
„Well, I don't care who you are Talia. You're a traitor and I don't listen to traitors."
„Wilson", she growled.
„Al Guhl."
„My son."
„No."
„I want my son! And I will kill you to get him!"
„Try me, bitch. I killed you once and I will do it again."
„Why are you here?", she asked out of nowhere.
„Classified."
„Really, Wilson?"
„Why is mother naming her Wilson?", whispered Damian to his father. Before Bruce could answer, Talia rushed with a war cry forward raising her sword. I easily dodged, spinning around and kicking her in her stomach.
„You have a deathwish, Al Guhl. Stop it and I will let you go."
„Never, Wilson", she spat and rammed her sword in my leg. I gritted my teeth but fought on. I felt, how my wound slowly stopped bleeding until it closed completely. But the pain was still there.
„How-?", she stuttered.
„You should've known, dear Talia. The reason, why Im a better fighter than you, the reason, why I could kill you. All because of my fathers powers."
„Your father has powers? But he is no metahuman."
„Who said he is a mutant? He's an experiment, he's an improved human. So am I."
„That's why you could learn so fast to fight", she realized.
„Yes. And now, get out of here, or I kill you and your friends."
We're bigger than we ever dreamed, and I'm in love with being queen (Ooh ooh oh)
Life is great without a care
We aren't caught up in your love affair
„Who is your father, Lara?" I sighed at Damian's question.
„Does it really matter right now?"
„Hell yes it does!", shouted Jason. „I want some awesome powers too!" I rolled my eyes.
„I never knew my father, Bruce knows that. And my mother never told him, that she was pregnant. After I met Damian, I began to search for my father. Without any results. Then, he found me. He's a member of the league of the assassins, so he brought me there and I was trained."
„You didn't answer Damians question”, Bruce noticed. I sighed again and shouldered my backpack.
„Because I knew, you all wouldn't like it. Damian, your grandfather send me to protect you. My job is done, I will go back to Nanda Parbat."
„What?"
„No!", they cried out.
„Why? I thought you-", I interrupted Bruce.
„Bruce, I love you. I really do. But I know, when you learn, who my father is, you will abandon me. So I better go by myself."
„Wait, what? Are you and Bruce a thing?" Jason's eyes switched between us.
„We were."
And we'll never be royals
It don't run in our blood
That kind of lux just ain't for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler, you can call me Queen B
And baby I'll rule (I'll rule I'll rule I'll rule)

“Whoa, Big Guy!” Jason Todd x Al Ghul!Reader PT 1
Prompt request: y/n is the daughter of Talia al Ghul/ connected to the Al Ghuls/ witnesses Jason Todd being revived and attempts to calm him after he freaks out, and eventually Jason falls for her - just a little idea I had, I saw you did prompts and I love your writing
A/N: I apologize everyone! I just regained access to my account finally! Thank you for the complement sweetie, it was quite encouraging! :)
Y/N Al Ghul, yes, you read that correctly. Y/N was the first born daughter of Talia Al Ghul and some unfortunate soul she had trapped within her charms, you weren’t quite sure who your father was but you couldn’t mistake who your mother was. You had E/C eyes that you assume you inherited from your father as well as your H/C hair. On the other hand, you could fight as well as your mother could, if not even better. You wouldn’t ever let her see your full potential for fear of her using her just as she has used everyone else around her.
“Y/N?” A soft knock on your window disturbed your internal observation of yourself as you stood before a mirror, the soft voice of your little brother Damian broke the silence. He had taken to coming by at least once a month to come see you, even going so far as to sneak out of his fathers mansion without his knowledge. You could never figure out how the young boy never got caught by his father, his adoptive brothers or even the guards.
“Come in, little brother.” You whispered, unlocking your window and bringing him in under the cloak of the darkness. “Why are you here, Dami? Has Bruce hurt you?” Your hand clenched out of habit when you asked that question, you would defend him until your death if that’s what it took.
“No, Sister. I came to speak to you, I hear they have stolen a body.” He whispered, eyes narrowed as his stance got tense. “A body important to him.”
You nodded in understanding, you too had heard the murmurs around the League. “I will do what I can, Damian, but I make no promises. Go to him, it is much safer there. They are beginning to have doubts of my loyalty.” You kissed his forehead, seeing just how tall he had grown since you had last seen him.
Before you knew it, three days had passed and you were training against your mother. She was ruthless, swiping at your throat every chance she could just to keep your attention on her. “Enough!” She barked, smirking at you. “You have improved, Daughter. Come, we have much to attend.” You stopped in confusion, she had never stopped training before you were either heavily injured or unable to stand and even then she had made you continue.
You were lead deep into the League’s headquarters, then down to the Lazarus Pit. You almost screamed when you had seen the body being lowered into the pit, but you did jump when the body became reanimated. The screams, the haunting screams still were with you to this day just as well as the bright green eyes of the young man revived. It was then you had come to learn of Jason Todd, the unfortunate second Robin. Watching him break the windows as he launched himself out of the room, you realized two things for certain. One was that you were definitely no longer loyal to your so called family, and the second was that you needed to get to Jason before anyone else does.
A/N: Alrighty y’all, I’m cutting this one a bit short at 600 words because I decided to separate this particular request into two parts so I can capture both of their reactions uniquely! It’s also hard writing about the League of Assassins without knowing much about them, haha!

A Slow and Steady Dance
chapter 2
jimmy olsen/talia al ghul
tw: blood, OC assassin deaths, violence
***
“James? You said your name was James?”
The exclamation came out with a shower of cheese puff dust.
“My name is James! I panicked, okay?” Jimmy defended helplessly. “Chew with your mouth closed.”
“Oh my god.” Jon Kent flopped back on the bean bag chair and slapped a hand over his eyes. “James.”
“Listen, pick up that controller and fight me,” Jimmy said, pointing at the abandoned console controller by Jon’s feet. The brawling game was paused.
“Uncle Jimmy,” Jon said, laughing and coughing. Jimmy nudged the tub of cheese puffs away from Jon’s reach. “I think I know why you’re single.”
“Hey!” Jimmy said, kicking at Jon’s socked feet that were floating in the air. “Listen, you twerp, when did you get so mean? Where’s the sweet Jonno who thought I could do no wrong?”
“Middle school,” Jon’s giggle turned into a grumble and an exaggerated sigh. “It makes ya grow up too fast.”
“Cheers to that,” Jimmy said, raising his can of Zesti. He took a long swig and muttered, “I have to get better drinking buddies than ten year old.”
“I’m eleven!” Jon crowed. His feet settled on the carpet again and he licked his fingers off and dried them on his jeans before picking up the controller. “So. Are you gonna go?”
“Go where?” Jimmy asked, mashing a series of buttons.
“Uncle Jimmy,” Jon said flatly. “I saw the paper in your bag when you told me to get the pop and candy.”
“You’re a little spy,” Jimmy said. He paused the game to tap the back of Jon’s head with his elbow. “You’re as bad as your mom and dad.”
Jon ducked from the teasing blow, laughing.
Jimmy sighed. “It depends on a couple things, like if your mom gets back in time. And even if she does I’m not sure, because you’re practically still in diapers and don’t need to know.”
“So yes, but I gotta pretend I’m dumb if anyone asks,” Jon said. He unpaused the game. His onscreen character flipped Jimmy’s off a floating platform in a blur of blue and orange.
“No,” Jimmy said, with a chuckle. “It means you don’t know. Remember when I used to win sometimes?”
“You mean when I used to take it easy on you?” Jon looked sideways with a sharkish grin.
They played a few more rounds that Jimmy soundly lost, even if he would have argued it was because his head was someplace else. They were in the middle of a match Jimmy was winning because Jon’s fingers kept slipping on the controller when the sound of a key in the lock jerked both their spines upright.
“Your mom,” Jimmy hissed. “Bed like you’ve been there for an hour, go, go, go.”
A whoosh of air sent the cheese puff tub wildly spinning and Jimmy slapped a hand on it to get it to stop just as Lois tossed her stuff on the entry table and rounded the corner. Jon was nowhere in sight.
“It’s a school night, Jimmy.” Lois sounded unamused.
“He’s in bed,” Jimmy said, keeping his attention pointedly on the screen while he jumped around. The other character, unmanned, merely bounced in place under a flurry of kicks.
“Mhmm,” Lois said. “You’re just playing two player all alone.”
Jimmy paused and rapidly quit the game, rising to his feet. “No, it’s a CPU, I think the system’s just buggy? It’s been acting weird all night.”
“Not that I don’t appreciate you watching him last minute,” Lois said. She ran a hand through her hair and kicked her shoes off at the edge of the room. “I do. Appreciate it, I mean. You’re a lifesaver. Clark’s got some thing in…”
“Yeah,” Jimmy said quickly. “No problemo. See you at work tomorrow?”
“What’s up with you?” Lois leaned her head back out of the kitchen to fix him with a piercing gaze. “You usually try to stay and talk my ear off for an hour.”
“Nothing!” Jimmy said, grabbing his messenger bag. “I just, I’ve got plans, maybe. Maybe a date.”
“Jimmy. It’s midnight,” Lois said, an eyebrow raised. She disappeared fully into the kitchen, her voice disembodied as she called across the space. “I didn’t make you late, did I?”
“Nah, I’m not late yet,” Jimmy said. He tipped the Zesti Cola back to finish it off and somehow managed to miss his mouth— half of it sloshed onto his button up shirt. He stared glumly at it. “Aw, cheese and crackers.”
“There’s a stain stick in the laundry room,” Lois said.
“How did you…”Jimmy tipped his head back and sighed at the ceiling. “You can’t even see me. Are you sure Clark isn’t rubbing off on you?”
Whatever Lois mumbled under her breath from the kitchen was something he thought he probably didn’t want to hear, especially since it was followed by a snort of laughter.
“It’s fine,” Jimmy said.
“Sorry. I’ve been up too long,” Lois said, the back of her hand pressed against her mouth as she came around the corner. She raised a wine glass to him. “Have fun. Be safe.”
“Thanks,” Jimmy said. The shirt he could work around. He had time. He smiled. “Tell Clark I said hi.”
“Mhmm,” Lois said. “Thanks, again.”
“Anytime,” Jimmy assured her. “He’s a great kid.”
“Jimmy,” Lois said. “Take the stain stick.”
***
Fifty-seven minutes later, Jimmy Olsen knocked on the door to Room 638 on the sixth floor of the Metropolis 3rd Street Hilton. The door was propped open by the flipped security latch. He pushed it, tentatively. It opened on an empty standard double room.
“Hiya?” he called, stepping in.
His sense of danger had perhaps been dulled by years of working with Superman a yell away, because he felt no alarm stepping into the room that very well could have been a trap.
The room was definitely empty. He knocked on the bathroom door, and then pushed it open to a dark interior. Also empty.
Jimmy stood in the middle of the room, rubbed the back of his neck, and let the bottle of wine he’d brought dangle in his grip. He sighed.
“Aw, beans,” he mumbled, feeling stupid.
It had been a joke, certainly. Getting someone to prop open the door was the easy work of twenty bucks or so. He sat on the edge of the bed and tugged at his bowtie and crisp collar of the clean shirt he’d put on, then fell back onto the smooth duvet.
“You, Jimmy Olsen,” he said to the ceiling, “are a chump.”
The bedside phone rang. It rang again, and again.
Jimmy propped himself on one elbow and stared at it. It rang a fourth time and he snatched it off the receiver and held it to his ear, the coiled cord that still survived in hotel rooms stretching out across the floor.
“Hilton, room 638,” he said.
“Mr. Olsen,” the accented voice said calmly over the line. “You came.”
Jimmy sat straight up, his back rigid. He swallowed, hard, with a cough of nervous laughter. “Yep. On time, even. Are you, um, running late?”
If the wall had been close enough to bang his head against, he might have considered doing just that. He wished he could sound smart for a whole two minutes while talking to a gorgeous woman.
“No,” she said, unruffled. “Come upstairs. Room 4201.”
The line went dead. Jimmy held the phone until the disconnected tone jarred him into motion– he set it down with a plastic click, and stood, feeling dazed.
The ride up on the elevator was a long, silent minute where he smiled at the other occupants, a man in a tuxedo and a woman in a red gown with a fur shawl. The man glared at him in return, but the woman looked disinterested and avoided eye contact. They stepped off a floor before his.
“Have a good night!” he called after them. They ignored him and he shrugged, jamming the button for the 42nd floor again for good measure.
The elevator doors opened on a hallway with geometric-patterned carpet in stark black and white. The doors were further from each other than on the lower floors, but he didn’t have to walk far to the left to find 4201.
He took a deep breath, raised a hand to knock, and froze.
There was a crash from within the room, the crack of breaking furniture, and shattering glass, a scream. His worry about a date fled, and he pounded his fist on the door.
“Hello? Are you okay? Talia?”
There was a muffled snap and then the knob turned. Jimmy stepped back, unsure of who or what was opening the door. The gap that appeared was only a few inches, and Talia’s face was visible, but her head was ducked down.
“Mr. Olsen,” she said, still calm as a lake in fair weather. “It’s a bad time, after all. Perhaps another evening?”
“What?” Jimmy exclaimed, bracing a hand on the door before she could shut it. “Who was screaming? Are you alright?”
“I’m–” Talia began, her head still bent.
“You’re bleeding,” Jimmy said, staring at the dark bead of blood on her cheek. “Who hurt you? I have a friend who can help, just tell me who did this. Is he still in there?”
“I am quite capable of taking care of myself, Mr. Olsen,” Talia said. Rather than icy, she sounded amused. “I doubt there is anything you could do that I haven’t already taken care of alone.”
There was an unspoken implication there, about Jimmy’s ability to hold his own in a fight. He heard it and ignored it– it was a familiar dismissal, one he’d lived with most of his life.
“At least let me make sure you’re okay,” Jimmy said.
“You’re worried. You needn’t be. The threat has been dealt with.”
“Okay,” Jimmy said, fingers tightening on the neck of the wine bottle anyway. “You’re still bleeding. I can get some ice, find a first aid kit.”
“You are persistent,” Talia observed. The door had never opened more than those few inches, but she raised her chin and studied him. There was a cut by her eye, already swelling.
“Tell me to buzz off, and I’ll get lost,” Jimmy said, hoping she wouldn’t. Whoever had been in the room had done a number on her, and he didn’t like the idea of leaving her alone. “But I’d feel like a heel not staying to help, if you need anything. Gee, that looks bad. Gimme your ice bucket. I’ll run to the machine and bring it back. I don’t even have to come in. Want me to call the police?”
“No,” Talia said. “Wait.”
The door closed, and Jimmy waited, frowning at the glossy silver numbers on the polished wood. There was the clink of a sliding chain and then the door swung all the way open.
“There’s ice in the fridge,” she said, with a dip of her head in that direction. She was walking ahead of him, her back to him, and still in the green dress from earlier. “I’m going to change.”
The hotel suite was large. Plush carpet ran the full length of a long living room, lined with floor to ceiling windows on one side. The view overlooked the glittering, neon city– the Daily Planet with its spinning globe lit by bright white, the glowing blue strips up the corners of the LexCorp building, the dark reflective glass of the First Federal Bank tower lit up like a laser show.
Jimmy stood staring at Metropolis, taking it in, before starting and turning to find the kitchenette. Some of the sleek living room furniture was tipped over, a coffee table broken into a thousand shards in the carpet. A couch was slashed, cotton batting sticking through.
“Holy moly,” he breathed, picking his way around the mess.
The kitchen wasn’t a kitchenette– it was a full kitchen, with a stove and oven and refrigerator. There was a marble-top island, a few drawers pulled out and one broken off it’s tracks.
One of the open drawers held a little box of plastic baggies. He set the wine on the counter and plucked a baggie out from the roll, and went around the island to open the fridge.
There was a body on the floor, a knife sticking out from its throat. A mask obscured the face, and any horrified or pained expression he might have been making.
“Talia?” Jimmy called, feeling sick.
“Yes, Mr. Olsen?”
“It’s Jimmy, actually, you should just call me…Jimmy,” Jimmy said, swallowing hard. He couldn’t take his eyes off the knife, the pooling blood, the stained handle. “There’s a body in here.”
“Yes,” she called back. “It’s nothing to worry about. They’re dead.”
“I…okay. Dead. Dead isn’t the worst.” Jimmy tore his gaze away and pressed the bag against the ice dispenser in the fridge. He sealed it, mechanically, and stepped over the body, trying very hard not to think.
He wandered toward the door Talia had disappeared behind. It wasn’t closed, but he rapped gently with his knuckles anyway.
“Ice delivery,” he said, the words sounding hollow to his own ears.
There was a sniff and he leaned forward, quickly, just to see Talia wipe the corner of her eyes with the back of her hand, the first joint of her first finger. She took in a sharp breath and turned fully to face him, with a placid expression. Her makeup was a little smudged.
“Thank you,” she said, accepting the ice.
“Are you…are you okay?” Jimmy stammered. “It’s just, there’s a body in the kitchen, and uh…did he attack you?”
“Just the one?” Talia asked, raising an eyebrow. She paused by him, and put a hand on his cheek. “You’re upset. You aren’t used to blood?”
“Uh, no,” Jimmy said, shaking his head. “I’ve, well, I’ve been Lois Lane’s photographer for a while. It’s not the blood so much as what comes with the blood.”
“What is that?” Talia asked, brow creasing.
“Suffering,” Jimmy said bluntly. If she hadn’t touched him, maybe he wouldn’t have dared, but he raised his hand and rubbed his thumb along the skin near the cut on her face. “Blood usually means suffering.”
Talia smiled, thin and uncertain, and raised the ice pack to the swelling cut. She slipped past him into the messy living room. Jimmy turned, to watch her, and didn’t notice the feet twitching behind the second low couch until she stopped behind it, standing over someone.
She hissed something low, crouched down out of sight. A rough voice, thick and gurgling, murmured something in return and then there was a wet snick. Talia rose, with blood splatter on her face.
“We have to go,” she said.
Jimmy turned and threw up in a decorative vase.
When he righted, she was looking at him.
“You should go,” she amended.
“No, I’m okay,” Jimmy said. “Just needed a second, is all. Gee whiz, did you just kill that guy?”
“He knew the price for failure,” Talia said evenly. “It was a death with honor.”
“Failure to do what?” Jimmy gaped at her. He stumbled a step sideways, tracking her movement across the room, and reached for a camera that wasn’t there. He just wanted to hold the familiar straps in his hands.
“To kill me,” Talia said, as if this were perfectly reasonable.
“Who’s trying time kill you?” Jimmy demanded. “Why?”
“It was a test. I thought my father trusted me enough that we were beyond such tests, but that was foolish on my part. The lesson has been learned.”
“Your father,” Jimmy exhaled, sitting down on the torn couch. “Your father sent…assassins…to kill you…”
“Yes,” Talia said. “And now I must leave. If you would like to avoid trouble, I advise you do the same.”
“Won’t the police…aren’t there prints? Everywhere?” Jimmy asked, looking around. Talia was standing in front of a mirror in the living room, wiping blood off her face.
“No,” Talia said. “My father’s people will be watching the ones he sent. They will come to clean everything, and if we’re still here, one might try again in hopes of securing his favor.”
“I don’t know what kind of father you’ve got,” Jimmy said. “Mine didn’t like me that much, but he didn’t want me dead.”
“Mr. Olsen,” Talia said, with a pitying smirk. “It isn’t because he wants me dead. It’s because he wants me to be the best. I am, or I’m not. It’s that simple. If I can’t handle a few assassins, then I don’t honor him by being alive. These men would not have thanked me for sparing them– Reznyek pled for an honorable death, and nothing more.”
Jimmy thought she sounded like she fully believed this, but it also sounded recited, like some sort of long-rehearsed creed. He decided not to bring it up in conversation at the moment.
“Did you give him one?” Jimmy asked, his stomach rolling again, hearing the snick once more in memory. He convinced it to calm down.
“Yes,” she said softly, not looking at him. “He failed, and he didn’t deserve it. But I gave it to him anyway.”
“Why?” Jimmy asked. He didn’t know why he was asking, anymore than he knew why picking up a camera filled him with joy, or why following Lois around while she dug answers out of stories was one of the most satisfying things in his life.
“My father may not be right about all things,” Talia said. She flicked the cloth she’d been using onto the remains of the coffee table.
Jimmy got to his feet, and squared his shoulders.
“Well. Have you eaten since the gala? Can I buy you dinner?”
“You want to buy me dinner,” Talia said, raising an eyebrow. Jimmy got the impression she was looking at him with real interest for the first time. “I will not be having sex with you, Mr. Olsen.”
“It’s Jimmy,” Jimmy said, blushing. “And I’m not asking for…that. Just some burgers, or whatever you want. You’ve had a rough night.”
“You don’t want to run screaming?” she asked, with a teasing glint. He trailed her into the kitchen, where she found a first aid kit. She rummaged through it while he spoke.
“My life is pretty weird,” Jimmy said. “I’ll give it a few more hours.”
“I will accept dinner, on one condition,” Talia said, spreading cream on the cut near her eye.
“Sure, name it,” Jimmy said quickly, taking a bandaid and ripping it open. He handed it to her.
Talia pressed it into place and then looked him full in the face. “When you regret this in the morning, you tell no one.”
“Easy,” Jimmy said, while he was screaming inside and as certain as the sky was blue. “I won’t regret it.”
