I have been drifting back to STAR WARS fandom lately and I have been greatly rewarded for it, especially in the gen fic veins, because there have been some banger fics authors have been putting out! And the thing that really gets me in the fannish heart is that there's more and more fics about the Jedi, both for exploring the characters and the culture. I have been able to find multiple fics that have been kind to Mace Windu! I have been able to find multiple fics that explain what attachment actually is to the Jedi and to Star Wars! I have been able to find multiple fics that lift my spirit up or punch me in the feelings in exactly the right way, both for the usual disaster lineage faves, but also for the Jedi as a whole. I'm serious, that means the world to me in this fandom, and I desperately want to share that with you all. LET ME SHOVE FIC AT YOU THAT LOVES THESE CHARACTERS AND THIS WORLD AS MUCH AS I DO!!
FICS THAT PUNCHED ME IN THE FACE WITH HOW GOOD THEY WERE: ✦ wayfinding by night by wrennette, obi-wan & luke & cast, time travel, 10.2k     Before him stood a fellow Jedi, worn and weary with loss. Obi-Wan finds himself on Ahch-To and helps Luke find a path through his grief. ✦ may you inherit his light by notbecauseofvictories, leia & bail & anakin & cast, 2.5k     When your father dies, say the Coruscanti, you are left clutching a star map for a different galaxy. In this, as in many things, Leia is her fathers' daughter. ✦ No Freedom From the Storm (But Peace In Its Midst) by Be_Right_Back, mace & cast, ~1k     Mace is freefalling. On his way down, he meets Hatred, and reaches for Serenity. ✦ "...if you remain his student" by Peppermint_Shamrock, anakin & ahsoka & cast, 3.9k     Ahsoka doesn't leave the Jedi Order. This does not save Anakin. This was never going to save Anakin. Nor stop him. ✦ a distant fire is burning by e_va, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka & cal, time travel, 47.4k wip     Cal Kestis can move backwards in time (kinda-sorta-not really), and his confrontation with Darth Vader in the Fortress Inquisitorius plays out a lot differently. Fixing the timeline while stuck in his 10-year-old body will be quite the task, but Cal is up to it. He has to be. (Obi-Wan, Anakin, and the clone troopers have no idea what to make of Kenobi's weird new padawan. At least the kid fits in, though.) ✦ No Death, Only the Force by ExtraPenguin, anakin & mace & depa & shmi, 2.8k     Anakin Skywalker is just about to to free his mother from the Tuskens when the Force rudely yanks him to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant – and into Mace Windu's body. Mace, on the other hand, gets tossed into Anakin's body on Tatooine. ✦ Well Met by avocadomoon, obi-wan/padme (unconsumated) & corde & anakin, 19k     "Here and then gone again," Padmé said. "It must be lonely." "Sometimes," Obi-Wan said. "But a Jedi is never truly alone."
THIS FANDOM HAS A HAMMER AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF NAILS AND A REALLY GOOD STAPLE GUN, WE'RE FIXING WHAT CANON BROKE AND NOBODY CAN STOP US NOT EVEN GOD: ✦ Begin again by mauvera, obi-wan & qui-gon & anakin & padme & mace & dooku & cast, time travel, 78.9k     Five years into his self imposed exile on Tattooine, Obi-Wan Kenobi is gifted the chance to go back and bring hope back to the galaxy. With hindsight on his side, he fully intends to save his master, save his padawan, make some new and old friends again, prepare the Jedi for a war they’ll hopefully never see and begin to pull apart all the many tangled threads of the Sith Lord’s plans. ✦ Repetition by Peppermint_Shamrock, cody & obi-wan, time loop, 3k     Cody wakes up from a nightmare on the way to Utapau, again and again.
CANON-COMPLIANT (MOSTLY, UP TO A CERTAIN POINT, WHATEVER) DISASTER LINEAGE: ✦ it's like i can feel time moving by gigglesandfreckles, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, 5.4k     “Hi,” Anakin says. It's after midnight. “Is everything alright?” “Can’t a man stop by his old master’s room?” Obi-Wan stares at him blankly. “Are you out of food?” ✦ yes, I will take you / I will love you, again by foreverstudent, obi-wan & anakin & cast, time travel, 2.5k     "So you have tried, Padawan." Qui-Gon takes a moment, and his expression is steely but not unkind--the one Obi-Wan remembers from particularly grueling training sessions. "Would you try again, if you had the chance?" OWK!Obi-Wan gets another chance, with a child he once left behind. ✦ No Good Deed Goes Unpunished by kittona, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, 1.1k     Anakin gets a bit overprotective when his loved ones are sick. Luckily, he has the best home remedy for a cold. ✦ nothing a cup of tea can't fix by gigglesandfreckles, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, 1.5k     when Anakin shows up to Obi-Wan's quarters in the middle of the night, the Jedi Master knows something has gone awry. answering Anakin's desperate cry for help, Obi-Wan is reminded of how very, very prone to dramatics his former padawan and grand padawan are. or Ahsoka gets sick and Anakin flips his shit. ✦ Stick Figures by KCKenobi, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, 2k     war is hard. war is draining. to make it more bearable, little mementos* are routinely given. *mementos: encouraging notes, funny little drawings, little gifts, fun snacks, and poems which might get Anakin in trouble. ✦ When the Ground Breaks by stolen_pen_name23, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, 4.7k     An earthquake causes devastation on the planet of Berchest. Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka work together to help save civilians until disaster pulls them apart. ✦ never fear, young one by marverse, obi-wan & ahsoka & cast, 6.2k     Ever since her first day of being a padawan, Ahsoka Tano remembers the words that Master Skywalker had once told her. And every time, she wonders, wonders, and wonders. ✦ the street's a little kinder when you're home by gigglesandfreckles, obi-wan & anakin, 5.2k     "So catch me up," Anakin says. "What did I miss?” Nothing. Nothing happens when you’re gone. “Oh, the usual.” [or: anakin goes missing. obi-wan doesn't handle it well.] ✦ holding anchor by foreverstudent, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, 3.2k     At the landing of Point Rain, an injured Obi-Wan allows himself to be sentimental over his former padawan, and Anakin patches up his old master. ✦ Nothing to Say by KCKenobi, obi-wan & anakin & satine, 3.2k     (or: Anakin and Satine don’t know how to talk to each other. Until they remember the very important thing they have in common.) ✦ Aggressive Negotiations by SkyBlue1309, obi-wan & anakin & cast, 2.2k     People forget that Anakin was raised by the Negotiator. He was bound to pick up on a thing or two. ✦ At The Window by Peppermint_Shamrock, obi-wan & anakin, ~1k     In the early days of Anakin's apprenticeship, Obi-Wan searches for him in the Temple. ✦ The Words by Ibelin, obi-wan & anakin, 3.9k     Obi-Wan Kenobi has never said I love you in his life. He can say a lot of other things, though.
JEDI CULTURE AND WORLDBUILDING AND CELEBRATION: ✦ Refractions of Light by Independence1776, ezra & kanan, 1.3k     Kanan celebrates a Jedi holiday with Ezra. ✦ The grand outing by Ingata, dooku & sifo-dyas & obi-wan & bant & garen & reeft & yoda & cast, 4.5k     Eight younglings and two Jedi masters on a field trip. What could possibly go wrong? ✦ into the statue that breathes by spoonks, obi-wan & feemor & cast, 8.5k     The night watch in the garden was supposed to be the calmest of them all. No mischievous Padawans “sneaking” in or out, or ne’er-do-well civilians conducting “business” around the lower-level entrances that they didn’t know existed. No the gardens was still, and it was like time was frozen in ice that slowly melted away with the rising of the sun. A slow drip, drip— Drip. Immediately Feemor turned towards the central waterfall. Someone was standing there. Whoever they were, they were small and moved through katas with their hands open like a greeting. ✦ The Temple vs. Order 66 by LauraBWrites, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka & cody & jedi & jedi temple, 3.9k     The Temple cannot defy the Will of the Force. But it can, it will prepare for the possible outcomes. It can damn well fight back. ✦ We Three Runaways. by Aethir, obi-wan & depa & komari, 2.7k     In which Depa and Obi-Wan bond, and a new sister is found. ✦ A Short Break by Peppermint_Shamrock, luke & yoda, ~1k     Luke complains about his training, and asks about Jedi training of old. ✦ we are made of our longest days by bereft_of_frogs, obi-wan & anakin & cast, 4.4k     Two years after the events of The Phantom Menace, Obi-Wan and his new apprentice are called to a remote moon to fetch a baby who’s showing signs of a rare, unique power. On their journey home, Obi-Wan reflects on the last child he brought to the Temple and catches a faint glimpse of three possibly entwining futures.
I AM A PREQUELS ERA BITCH AND I'M MAKING THAT EVERYONE ELSE'S PROBLEM: ✦ the salle at dawn by maragny, anakin & mace, 1.5k wip     Master Windu is the best duellist in the Jedi Order. When Anakin Skywalker is seventeen, he duels Mace for the first time, and it ruins both of them for anyone else. ✦ Saving People Counts as Revenge, Right? by ImperialKatwala, obi-wan & anakin & dooku, time travel, 4.3k wip     Count Dooku of Serenno is an intelligent man. His methods may be a bit severe, and he may not be allowed true freedom to plan campaigns in the war he helped create, but he has always had an eye for strategy. Moving the pieces around the board and plotting out where they will need to be next. So, when he opens his eyes after Anakin Skywalker cut his head off, he knows to take a moment to assess what’s going on. ✦ if I could find solid ground again by maragny, anakin & depa, 1.5k     “You never told me what we’re doing today,” Anakin says, a little hesitant. “I…I don’t know much about Jedi things yet.” "Good thing we’re not doing Jedi things, then,” Depa replies. “We’re cooking!” Or, Anakin and Depa, finding their places in their family. ✦ Birds Fly in Different Directions by Triscribe, jedi & clones, time travel, 14.6k     In the corridor beyond her quarters, other Jedi were emerging from their own doors, most of them wide-eyed with shock. A few merely looked blearily concerned, and Aayla heard snatches of questions as she darted past, queries as to whether everyone experienced the same distressing vision. But those who clutched at their chests or throats, their weak points- those Jedi bore a muted horror in their eyes, and Aayla didn’t doubt they’d just suffered their own betrayals from trusted men.
✦ The Master, The Padawan, and The Force by Pandora151, padme & ahsoka, 1.9k     Padmé Naberrie was never one to procrastinate. More than that, she maintained a steady, consistent schedule — something that she’d managed to keep ever since she was a Padawan. She was always on top of everything, from her responsibilities with the war to training her own Padawan, Ahsoka. She was well-known throughout the Order for being steady, reliable. And most notably, no matter what, she didn’t just forget things. Which made her current situation all the more…ridiculous. ✦ Off-by-one Error by Jessepinwheel, obi-wan & cast, 12.2k     A stranger appears in the Jedi Temple. Nobody knows who he is or where he came from. Nobody knows what has happened to him except that it must have been something truly terrible. The stranger's name is Obi-Wan Kenobi. ✦ splinters of light by wrennette, dooku & jocasta & sifo-dyas & yoda & jaster & jango & cast, time travel, 22.5k     When Dooku's dying consciousness was sent back into his younger body, at first he remembered only that something important would happen on Korda VI, and soon. His investigations brought both clarity and confusion, and a conviction that he must atone for evils not yet enacted. ✦ The Road that Reaches by ExtraPenguin, anakin & mace & yoda & depa & shmi, 11.5k     As the Council sits down on Naboo to consider the newly-knighted Obi-Wan Kenobi's request to take young Anakin Skywalker as his padawan, they're informed of what transpired on Tatooine – and that Anakin used to be a slave. Mace Windu goes to interview the young child to confirm this, and gets rather more than he signed up for. ✦ the salle at dawn by maragny, anakin &/ mace, 5.1k     Master Windu is the best duellist in the Jedi Order. When Anakin Skywalker is seventeen, he duels Mace for the first time, and it ruins both of them for anyone else. ✦ through the dark (like two flames) by treescape, kanan/cal & quinlan, 5.3k     A Jedi found him on Bracca. Or, in the weeks after Order 66, Cal Kestis and Caleb Dume are reunited on Jabiim. Five years late, on the run from Inquisitors, they have a decision to make. ✦ Resilience by TemporaryUniverse, obi-wan & mace, 3.3k     Twelve years after his defeat at the Battle of Naboo, Obi-Wan's greatest enemy has returned from the dead. Obi-Wan has faced Maul and lost. Now it is time to face himself. ✦ The Buried Truth is Your Favorite Lie by Peppermint_Shamrock, dooku & yoda, ~1k     Dooku tries and fails to leave the past behind. ✦ Hanging On by the Last Threads of Our Hope by IllyanaA, ahsoka & rex, 5.2k     Ahsoka and Rex have endured too much. After the Fall, they stay together until they can't, but the Force has a way of bringing them back together. It's a fact for which both of them are immeasurably grateful.
MULTIGENERATIONAL STAR WARS IS THE BEST STAR WARS: ✦ Future Tense by CeruleanTactician, obi-wan & anakin & luke, time travel, 1.4k     Obi-Wan and Anakin find themselves twenty years in the future, where they meet a young man by the name of Luke Skywalker. ✦ Keepsakes by Coalmine301, obi-wan & leia, 2k     “You were the one who gave me my bantha, weren’t you?” “Yes,” Obi-wan nodded with a small smile. “Your father told me they were your favorite animal. At least then it was.” ✦ Why the Sith Don't Have Class Reunions by Peppermint_Shamrock, anakin & palpatine & maul & dooku & ventress, time travel, 1.9k     Sith apprentices rarely agree with one another (there’s a reason for the Rule of Two, after all), but Darth Sidious is starting to think that it’s worse when they do. ✦ My Dear Padawan by Tulak_Hord, luke & yoda & palpatine, time travel, 3.2k     In which a time-travelling Luke Skywalker successfully saves the Galaxy in perhaps the most horrifying manner imaginable. ✦ The Return by Pandora151, obi-wan & leia & haja, 1.4k     Haja wonders about the others. He wonders about the people he’s sent to the Path from Daiyu — not just Kenobi and the Princess, but that Force-sensitive boy and his mother, the Nautolan teenager from a few weeks ago, the young Kel Dor child and his even younger siblings. Did they all make it home? Are they safe? Was all of this worth it? ✦ Message From Guiding Light by Batsutousai, obi-wan & leia & mace, time travel, 2.2k     Ben and Leia never make it to Mapuzo on the borrowed supply shuttle, instead finding themselves in the middle of the Clone Wars.
FRIENDSHIP WITH CANON ENDED, THIS COOL AU IS MY NEW BEST FRIEND NOW: ✦ Not A Moment Too Soon by Triscribe, depa & kanan & cast, 2k     The first time she stumbled, her padawan said nothing, simply offering his shoulder for her to lean on. ✦ Parallel Lines by Pandora151, obi-wan & anakin, time travel, time loop, 10.7k     Darth Vader leans back in his chair, allowing a small smile to form on his lips, hidden by his helmet. “There is no escape from this, Obi-Wan,” he utters. He looks down at the neat line of text, and the Force echoes his words. “No escape from the past.” ✦ through the dark (like two flames) by treescape, ca/kanan & quinlan, 5.3k     A Jedi found him on Bracca. Or, in the weeks after Order 66, Cal Kestis and Caleb Dume are reunited on Jabiim. Five years late, on the run from Inquisitors, they have a decision to make. ✦ Loth-Cats and Loth-Rats by TessaDoesThings, mace & depa & kanan & ezra, 19k     All Mace Windu wanted out of the Post-Clone Wars world was a simple trip with his lineage to the long-forgotten Jedi Temples of the Outer Rim. However, on Lothal, the three might have bitten off more than they expected. The Republic may have triumphed, but the roots of what could have become the empire are gripped in the corners of the galaxy, and it might be time for some aggressive space weeding. Or a coup d'etat. That would work too. ✦ a princess, a farmer, a teacher by jesuisdeux, obi-wan & luke & leia & bail, 1.4k     Early in the morning, a girl and few men knock on a door. They don't wear anything resembling a soldier, but Obi-Wan has been a soldier long enough to notice the tense shoulders and wary looks beneath civilian clothing. She doesn't wear anything resembling a princess, but Obi-Wan knows these fierce eyes and grace coming from a righteous cause. or A New Hope AU where Vader doesn't attack Leia's ship and Leia herself delivers the news to Obi-Wan and consequently Obi-Wan doesn't die. ✦ What I Wouldn't Give To See Your Ghost by Triscribe , depa & kanan & cast, time travel, 1.2k     “Who are you?” Depa demanded, externally calm but internally frantic. “What is this place? And where is my padawan?” ✦ when that day comes by katierosefun, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka & maul, modern au/reincarnation au, 44.8k     [or: the alternate universe where anakin skywalker has the chance at some new life…but only if he saves the life of a reincarnated obi-wan kenobi. the catch: neither of them know who the other was in the galaxy far, far away…but that might very well change.]

Ahsoka Tano & Sabine Wren (A Quick Analysis)
Grow Beyond
Tumblr media
"The greatest teacher, failure is. Luke, we are what they grow beyond. That is the true burden of all masters." - Master Yoda, The Last Jedi
I've been thinking about this quote a lot regarding these two.
Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren; Master and Apprentice. Heirs to the disaster lineage of Jedi (and Sith) stretching all the way back to Yoda himself. The above quote occurs in the scene when Master Yoda is chastising Luke for wallowing in his failure and allowing it to obstruct his judgment. Pass on what you have learned, he points out. Strength, yes, but also failure.
So, what does this mean for Ahsoka and Sabine? How does Ahsoka help Sabine to grow beyond herself? What, specifically, does Ahsoka have to offer Sabine as a Master in terms of successes and failures?
Let's look at Sabine's character first. She was already a formidable warrior, courtesy of her Mandalorian upbringing and the unique advantages her beskar armor bring to any battle. Sabine is loyal to a fault; fiercely devoted to those she cares about. She's fast on her feet and clever with gadgets and tech (as a reminder, she's considered to be a child prodigy). And something I feel that is overlooked, she is compassionate - it's not overt as Ezra's compassion is, which he extends to strangers, but we see it expressed time and again in her actions with loved ones.
Tumblr media
The flip side of Sabine's character runs similar to how Anakin Skywalker was: she's hot-headed, reckless, prone to fits of impulsive anger. And she loves deeply but, like every other Mandalorian in existence, Sabine is unable to express it in a healthy manner (although that is mitigated by the Ghost crew's influence on her during Rebels). Sabine's emotions, as we see throughout Rebels and later in Ahsoka, are somewhat of a mystery - possibly even to herself. It takes moments of extreme duress to reveal what she's feeling: her training with Kanan while mastering the Darksaber, for one instance.
Tumblr media
And, of course, this infamous moment from Ahsoka:
Tumblr media
The difference between these two moments, however, is that Sabine does not self-reflect afterwards in Ahsoka. In Rebels, she has Kanan to offer her guidance and counsel as to why she struggles with the Darksaber.
This is, arguably, Sabine's defining flaw: her inability to really know and understand herself on a deeper level. As a result, her emotions continue to rule over her actions and leads to the terrible consequences that follow.
Which is where Ahsoka comes in. Ahsoka Tano is no stranger to anger and the extremes to which emotions, when unchecked, can carry us. As the survivor of two galactic civil wars, she understands this better than anyone else alive. And, most importantly, she is the padawan of Anakin Skywalker; a fact that weighs heavily on her and, ultimately, affects her relationship with Sabine for the worse.
During her vision quest in Ahsoka 1x05, Ahsoka re-experiences the Clone Wars alongside her master, Anakin. There she asks him an important question, reflecting the core of her struggle with teaching Sabine:
Ahsoka: Is this all I have to teach my own padawan someday? How to fight?
Anakin, at the time, was teaching Ahsoka how to be a warrior - a timely lesson that served her well considering everything that happened afterwards. The problem for Ahsoka is this: that life is all she knows. She never really stopped fighting. She has spent most of her life fighting in a war and even when the Empire was finally defeated, Ahsoka continued to keep finding new battles to fight during a time of peace.
For whatever reason she decided to take on Sabine as an apprentice, Ahsoka must have struggled with this. Yes, she can teach Sabine discipline, lightsaber forms, and basic Force mastery but, outside of that, what else does she have to offer? How does she help Sabine to grow beyond her?
Passing on her failures. How has Ahsoka failed, what she learned from it, and how she can help Sabine to not make the same mistakes.
Returning to Ahsoka 1x05 again, Anakin has this important conversation with Ahsoka about their legacies as Jedi:
Tumblr media
Anakin: You're a warrior now. As I trained you to be. Ahsoka: Is that all? Anakin: Ahsoka, within you will be everything I am. All the knowledge I possess. Just as I inherited knowledge from my master and he from his. You're part of a legacy. Ahsoka: But my part of that legacy is one of death - and war. Anakin: But you're more than that. Because I'm more than that.
Ahsoka is not committed fully to her training Sabine; she's afraid that she'll pass on the failures of her master, also inherent within her, to her padawan. But, as Yoda points out to Luke so many years later, that's exactly what she needs to do. She sees herself as only offering a legacy of death and war to Sabine who has already seen her fair share of such.
But Anakin reminds her that she is more than that, just as he was. Those mistakes, that legacy - despite the darkness inherent within it - is important to pass on. Depriving Sabine of all that knowledge runs against what a Master should do, despite their reservations about what that knowledge could give way to - but that's the problem with Ahsoka prior to her reunion with Anakin in the World Between Worlds. She's afraid.
And Sabine pays the price for that fear. It makes her vulnerable to her own emotions and she makes the choice to doom the galaxy in exchange for Ezra's safety.
How do these fears become manifest in these two women? What causes them to become vulnerable to them?
Isolation. Detachment from others. That is, in my opinion, easy steps towards the Dark Side. For a long time, Ahsoka used this a survival mechanism, a necessity for a fugitive Jedi during the Empire's reign. She had to be detached from others in order to fulfill her Purpose, her Mission: help others and fight the Empire.
But the few attachments she did have after the Order fell, I would argue, were pivotal for her journey: Rex, of course, saving her life and returning upon her request to join the Rebellion - and, more importantly, her meeting with the Ghost Crew. Kanan and the others certainly helped her on more than one occasion but it's her relationship with Ezra - despite only knowing each other for a brief time - that ended up saving her life during the duel with Vader on Malachor.
Tumblr media
But, after a certain point, that isolation and detachment from others stopped being a necessity and started being a hindrance. Especially with her relationship with Sabine, who also had issues with that - those issues being exacerbated after the loss of her family during the Purge of Mandalore. Instead of staying with Sabine and giving her guidance and counsel and friendship during her lowest point, she sought to abandon her instead. To Ahsoka, it was the best possible choice but remember that she, too, was operating under the influence of her own fears.
Ahsoka should have embraced her attachment with Sabine - not shunned it. That is where she failed and continued to do so until the events of Ahsoka 1x05 in the World Between Worlds.
So, how does Ahsoka - the Master - help Sabine to grow beyond her? How does she rise above her failures?
She encourages Sabine to get a life.
. . . This is not a joke. The best possible way for Ahsoka to help Sabine move forward and become a better Jedi than her is to encourage a life outside of being a Jedi.
For all her life, Ahsoka has lived a life of Purpose - but that can't be all there is. That's what led to her failure with Sabine in the first place; she separated herself from others, keeping in contact only when necessary. She didn't cultivate relationships, friendships, find hobbies, other interests outside of her need to keep finding a cause to fight for.
It led to a life devoid of the simple joys that make it worth living. A life filled with Purpose is grand and noble but it's the people in it, the experiences we enjoy, the moments we spend with loved ones that stick with us to the end.
Ahsoka has led a lonely life. And that, in my opinion, is something she should actively encourage Sabine against.
Sabine needs people in her life. Her time with the Ghost crew did so much good for her, as we all know. When they separated, Sabine was adrift in her search for Ezra - until Ahsoka appeared and offered her a new path forward.
And then that path was cruelly taken away. Sabine was alone again with her bitterness, her yearning, and her grief. She - like all of us - are at our best when surrounded by loved ones who encourage us and stand by us when we are at our lowest.
The Jedi of old were wary of attachments - not love, but attachments that could specifically lead to possessiveness, which is not healthy - but the Order fell a long time ago. The Jedi who survived had to adapt in order to survive; some did it the way Ahsoka did, going for a lone wolf approach.
Others, however . . .
Tumblr media
How do Jedi survive in a time when there is no Jedi Order? How do they define themselves?
It is my belief that Kanan did it best. He embraced his attachments; his newfound family, the Ghost Crew - Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, Chopper, Zeb, and, most importantly, Hera Syndulla. But he never let his feelings for the others - especially Hera - cloud his judgment when the mission was at stake.
He found a way to honor the Jedi code but adapted it in a way that suited him best.
(Cal Kestis of the Jedi videogame series also followed this approach, but we have yet to see how that ends for him.)
I'm going to paraphrase (probably badly) a post from - I believe but correct me if I'm wrong - @seleneisrising that said something along the lines of that in the absence of a Jedi Order, Kanan and Ezra acted as their own within the Ghost Crew family. They acted in place of an Order but did it in their own way, not strictly adhering to what came before.
The Ghost Crew was a family.
It was Kanan and Ezra's home.
It was their own version of a Jedi Order; one that was perfectly in balance with their feelings and understanding of their Purpose. One that didn't eschew attachments in favor of emotional neutrality but embraced them and allowed those relationships to empower them.
Tumblr media
This is how Sabine surpasses Ahsoka. Not following the 'ronin' lifestyle of her master but finding a home to call her own; a place to be herself, truly, as Ahsoka needs her to be.
Finding a life outside of Purpose. Finding friendships, finding family, and finding love.
You know who that last part is referring to.
Tumblr media
Sabine follows in the footsteps of Kanan and builds her own Order - her own Clan, to honor her own Mandalorian roots. She does it with Ezra, with Hera, with Zeb, with Chopper, and some day, Jacen when he's ready for his journey. And with Ahsoka too. (And can't forget Murley.)
. . . Huyang, too, I guess. If he wants to come along.
To paraphrase a discussion I had with @starryjediknight: Sabine and Ezra become the new Kanan and Hera for Ghost Crew 2.0.
If isolation, detachment, and distrust from others can be seen as a Path to the Dark Side, then the opposite must be true as a Path to the Light; family, community, and trust being the way to break down barriers to love.
We see that with Sabine's reunion with Ezra - how, immediately, she is almost returned to her former self. How she is healed in his presence and then further healed when Ahsoka returns and begins to make amends with her, promising to stick by her no matter what from now on.
In a way, by doing this, Sabine could fulfill the dream that Anakin wished to see realized: staying true to the Jedi way while also being allowed to follow his feelings.
Rebels was always, at its heart, about family - found and lost.
Ahsoka could be about finding your way back, no matter how far you've strayed. Failures don't have to define you but are lessons to be learned from. They can be markers along the way on this journey we call life for those following us to see the pitfalls that loom when we lose the path.
Ahsoka can see those markers clearly now. She can point them out to Sabine.
And then Sabine can grow beyond her. Reach her full potential. Add her story to the legacy that she's inherited from Ahsoka, just as she did from her master.
This time, it won't be about death and destruction.
It can be better.
It can be about love.

The Unofficial Star Wars Limb Olympics!
Who has chopped off the most limbs? Let’s find out (books and TV show dismemberments not included.)
Honorable Mentions:
While Mace Windu did not chop off any limbs, he did successfully decapitate one (1) Mandalorian.
Chewbacca never dismembered anyone onscreen, however he is a Wookiee. Wookiees are well known for ripping people’s arms out of their sockets. Lord only knows how many limbs were lost to his hand.
6th Place: Yan Dooku
Nothing too impressive. In Attack of the Clones, the Count was the first to cut off one (1) of Padawan Anakin Skywalker’s arms.
Total: One (1) Limb
5th Place: Yoda
In Revenge of the Sith, Jedi Grand Master Yoda cut off one (1) clone trooper’s arm at the ruins of the Jedi Temple. What gave him the edge over Yan Dooku was that Yoda also decapitated two (2) clone troopers initially after Order 66 was broadcasted.
Total: One (1) Limb
4th Place: Ben Solo
Following in his namesake’s footsteps, he cut a Sith in half. In The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren removed two (2) of Emperor Snoke’s legs.
Total: Two (2) Limbs
Bronze Medal: Luke Skywalker
In true Disaster Lineage fashion, Luke Skywalker was very successful at removing limbs. His first time occurred on Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back, when he cut off one (1) of a Wampa’s arms in self defense.
Obi Wan did teach Luke well, because in Return of the Jedi, he sliced one (1) of Darth Vader’s cybernetic arms off. The fact that these dismemberments occurred on separate occasions is what gave Luke a higher placement than Ben Solo.
Total: Two (2) Limbs
Silver Medal: Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader
After losing his arm to Yan Dooku [see 6th Place], Anakin must have realized what an effective battle strategy dismemberment was.
In Revenge of the Sith, he returned the favor to Dooku two-fold by cutting off both (2) of the Sith’s hands (followed promptly by beheading him.)
In an effort to save Sheev Palpatine, Anakin chopped one (1) of Mace Windu’s hands off.
Many years later, in The Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader welcomed Luke Skywalker into the family by cutting off one (1) of his hands.
Total: Four (4) Limbs
Gold Medal: Obi Wan Kenobi
A surprise to no one, Jedi Master Obi Wan Kenobi has the highest limb count by a landslide.
He started his journey off in The Phantom Menace by foolishly believing that chopping a humanoid in half would kill them. He removed both (2) of Darth Maul’s legs.
Ten years later, following one of Padme Amidala’s many assassination attempts, Obi Wan disarmed the bounty hunter Zam Wessel by cutting off one (1) of her hands.
In the arena on Geonosis, he sliced two (2) of an ackley’s arms off.
In Revenge of the Sith, Obi Wan faced off against General Grevious and a droid army on Utapau. He decapitated one of Grievous’ guards and cut off two (2) of the General’s hands.
In the battle against his former Padawan on Mustafar, Kenobi set a limb record by cutting off both (2) of Anakin’s legs and his remaining (1) flesh arm.
His final dismemberment took place in A New Hope at the Mos Eisley Cantina. Once again, he disarmed someone in the literal sense; he cut off one (1) of Ponda Baba’s arms.
Total: Eleven (11) Fucking Limbs

@david-talks-sw recently made a post (https://www.tumblr.com/david-talks-sw/712987173655363584/luke-skywalker-in-the-last-jedi-22) about Luke in TLJ, specifically on how some ideas struggled to work due to the film being unable to delve into Luke as deeply as is ideal, and how this can be remedied through additional media
So in that spirit, here’s my Ideas for what can be done with a pre-sequels Luke and Ben series, expanding on Ben’s turn to the dark side and basing the relationship between him and Luke and the falling out off of Shifu and Tai Lung from Kung Fu Panda
(Originally this was from a reblog I made on @ensomniaa ‘s post on the Jedi and Oogway https://www.tumblr.com/ensomniaa/696816137236774912/the-jedi-and-master-oogway)
This would start 10 years before TFA/TLJ (thus 4 years before Ben’s turn which is 6 years before TFA/TLJ), and cover a period of time of 4 years, so the timeline is 24-28 ABY
Let’s start with Luke, in line with basing him off of Shifu, Luke has a great deal of love and pride for his nephew/student, unfortunately this is clouding his objectivity on the subject, that love and pride is becoming attachment, Luke is not seeing what his nephew is becoming/not taking the warning signs as seriously as he should, ironically Luke is attempting to learn from his past mistakes, in ESB he rushed into Bespin without thinking because of a vision, so here Luke is seeing visions of Ben falling, but he’s trying not to overreact to them and make the same mistake or worse cause what he sought to prevent, that’s good, but as I said, Luke’s attachment to Ben is clouding his judgement and he’s not taking it as seriously as he should, and of course over time these visions will become more frequent and Ben’s own behavior (we’ll get to him in a minute) will worsen, but Luke, somewhat arrogantly (ties into Rian Johnson’s commentary that Luke is conflating his own failures as failures of the Jedi as a whole, he was arrogant and it caused disaster so now he’s thinking of the Jedi as a whole as arrogant in bitterness) reassures himself that he saved Anakin so he can do the same again with Ben
Speaking of, for Ben Solo, his bloodline and abilities are a great source of pride to him, but that pride is turning to arrogance and entitlement, we would see him grow more aggressive and cocky (which Snoke/Palpatine would eagerly encourage), becoming more violent in fights and prone to un-Jedi like behaviors, while also believing himself to be the greatest by virtue of his bloodline, we also have the revelation of Anakin/Vader (this is largely taken from the eu stuff), like Luke before him, Ben idolized Anakin Skywalker and was not made aware of his identity as Darth Vader, and the reveal is crushing, again just like it was for Luke, but whereas Luke came to terms with it, Ben will not, and it makes things worse,
Now I want to take a break from Luke and Ben specifically to address some additional factors
during all of this Luke would have some outside factors making things worse (and not just Snoke/Palpatine prodding at Ben trying to make him turn), obviously we know that the correct way to go about Jedi training is one Master focusing all their efforts on one student
unfortunately, Luke can’t exactly do that
in addition to mentoring Ben, Luke is also trying to rebuild the Order, Lead it, recover artifacts, and train a few dozen other Jedi all at once
It’s the worst of both worlds, nobody/nothing is getting the proper attention needed
Now I want to be clear, this is not a criticism of Luke, this is just a fact of how things are, he’s one man with a ton to do (and also maybe this feeds into his later self loathing, Luke thinks himself responsible because he tried to do everything), ideally it should not be this way, but like with the Prequel Jedi, Luke is lacking in good options, and taking on all of that work at once is simply the least bad option
As I already said, we wouldn’t see this all at once, this would be a gradual process over the course of years, I kinda would approach this like a lot of prequel material does: that feeling of dread as we slowly approach disaster
And speaking of disaster, we set the stage, the point in time is just a few days (or hours even) before the flashback in TLJ (the year is 28 ABY, 6 years before TFA)
Luke and Ben have returned from a mission, while it was a success, Luke is concerned, his visions have gotten worse, and the reality is not much better, Ben was very aggressive and arrogant, and even killed the darksider (who maybe is another apprentice of Snoke’s and Kylo’s own predecessor in the First Order) they fought after that darksider had been defeated (why yes that is an allusion to Anakin killing Dooku), and the whole thing has Luke questioning if he’s been going about this the right way, and then Ben does it...
He is demanding to be made a Knight, and this is where we lock in Ben’s parallels with Tai Lung (and parallels to his grandfather), rather than awaiting the time as to when he is judged to be worthy of something (knighthood/the Dragon Scroll), Ben in his arrogance is demanding it of his teacher
and the rejection of it causes something to snap
In a blind rage Ben lashes out, igniting his saber and attacking Luke, the fight is brief but furious, with Luke winning soundly
(and yes, I did deliberately inject aspects of the Obi-Wan/Anakin relationship and decline into Luke and Ben’s, if Kylo Ren’s story is going to mirror Vader’s so to should his fall)
though this all seems like should be the end of it, in truth this is the beginning of the end, Luke orders Ben to return to his hut to meditate and think on his actions, in a combination of attachment to Ben and an attempt to not act rashly, Luke is not taking this situation as seriously as he should, he’s not seeing Ben as the person who gave into anger and attacked him, Luke is still seeing Ben as his nephew and student
ut now Luke is questioning everything, he fears he has made a mistake, his love for Ben is clouding his mind, and after a little while he heads for the hut Ben stays in hoping to try and resolve this
But what has happened with Ben since the fight?
Well he is mad, he’s stewing in rage, dark murderous thoughts flow freely, self control is out the window, he’s not over the edge quite yet, but its enough for Snoke/Palpatine to use to create a disaster, they cultivate these dark thoughts, amplify them, even in Ben’s dreams knowing it will just take one wrong person in the wrong place and wrong time to set everything off
And thus, as Luke enters the hut hoping to speak with Ben and resolve things, he’s hit by darkness in Ben’s mind (Snoke/Palpatine probably took care to make sure that Luke was able to see such), and those thoughts, in tandem with Ben’s growing violent behavior and the fight just a few hours earlier, Luke seriously considers the unthinkable...
And from this change in context, Luke contemplating killing his nephew as we seen in the TLJ flashback is less out of the blue and instead shows that this is the culmination of a low point in the relationship
Of course, all of this wouldn’t exactly fit in a single movie’s runtime, but it just goes to show what disney should be doing with the sequels, expanding on the context to help improve them
I had a few other ideas but they’re not really about the Luke/Ben relationship, more just ideas for “if this was a show”, stuff like ongoing plots, arcs, other characters, etc

Note
That is funny. All Jedi are actually slaves. They don't have a right to own property, they can't marry whoever they want and they obey the Council. They are even recruited like slaves, taken from their families without any choice.I don't know how Ahsoka even can leave the Order when a jedi needs to be watched closesly and not build up ties with the rest of the people or he/she may fall to the Dark Side.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but as they are written as an overall institution in canon, I honestly think that force-sensitive humans and beings in the galaxy of Star Wars would generally be better off if they never got involved with the Jedi Order at all. Like, it’s tragic to realize that the most consistently happy, secure, and well-adjusted point in Anakin Skywalker’s horrendous life was when he was living on Tattoine in physical slavery with his mother. Then, afterwards, that happiness was far too brief and fleeting for the next 34 years of his life. Sure, part of it is his own fault for committing all those crimes he knew were wrong out of anger and fear of the unknown, but not all of it is. The fact that his agency was constantly compromised to ever be able to find healthy support or feel safe doing any better by all of these deeply abusive, arrogant, corrupt, hypocritical, manipulative, oppressive, self-involved, and willfully negligent authority figures within these two space soldier cults for their own ends certainly wasn’t his fault, but he did have his own selfish and vindictive motivations, too.
If we’re going by Luke Skywalker’s new Jedi Order, particularly in Legends (Disney canon keeps screwing up his character), I don’t think it would necessarily be too bad as an optional day camp or law-enforcement job for training with the force and helping out the galaxy on the side. As long as they are old enough and well-adjusted enough to be handling weapons, they get to have a fair choice in the matter of being a Jedi or leaving any time they want, I don’t think the Jedi Order has to be unhealthy.
However, for the most part, I think most of the force-sensitive characters we meet in the canon series do so much better in their lives without ever getting involved in either the Jedi Order or the Sith at all. They often end up becoming deeply dysfunctional adults who develop serious behavioral/impulse control issues, dangerous ends justify the means type morality, poor critical thinking skills, and poor self-awareness because they have been groomed to have little to no self-confidence in their own moral integrity and personal agency, and rarely break out of it.
It’s not just Anakin and the other fallen Jedi who grow up to be deeply problematic tragic living disasters with those toxic mindsets in the series either. Look at Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. They are supposed to be the “ideal” Jedi of their time, but they’re still pretty awful and broken people as adults, anyway. They can never can take true personal accountability for fucking up. They are always in the right, the “blameless victims,” or the “noble failures” who were taken advantage of because they were too nice in their minds. However, we repeatedly see them deliberately betraying, controlling, deceiving, endangering, harming, manipulating, murdering, neglecting, and/or oppressing anyone who either acts a potential threat to or can be of use to “greater good” of their cause or desire to fit in for security without much concern for the potential consequences of their actions and decisions or remorse for the individuals they are sacrificing for their cause.
Even their moments of self-awareness suck because they still can’t admit that they followed a fucked up system that cost them a lot of people because they became too afraid to do the right things under pressures of corrupt authority, facing the unknown, and war. Anakin dies with more self-acceptance and self-awareness than either Obi-Wan and Yoda do throughout the entire series in the last 15 minutes of ROTJ, and he became one of the main villains of Star Wars.
#star wars anon#let’s be honest though they are better than Sith most characters in SW would probably be better if they never encountered the Jedi order too#at least as they are written in canon SW in both the present and past#like I could see Luke Skywalker’s new Jedi Order in legends that is a healthy system that allows for freedom of choice working out#and that was supposed to be Luke’s legacy after the OT movies for the new Jedi order which Disney has been ruining#but for the most part as they are written in CANON the Jedi order are only ‘good’ because they are the lesser of two evil military cults#the Jedi institution generally sucks as a whole in canon and aside from Luke skywalker most of them cause more problems than they solve#it’s sad when you realize that Anakin would have probably turned out a far better person if he had never recruited him as a Jedi at all#I mean the galaxy would still be fucked because of the Jedi Council the Republic Senate the Sith and Palpatine anyway#and Anakin’s life would still suck because Tatooine wasn’t the Republic’s interest#but at least he would still have his mom and have a better chance of growing up to be a good and well-adjusted adult#at least he would be happy if he never encountered the Jedi in canon#luke skywalker#anakin skywalker#darth vader#obi wan kenobi critical#Yoda critical#Jedi order critical#no their entire order didn’t deserve to be mass murdered in response#but those enabling and/or enforcing the system of the Jedi are generally portrayed as the lesser of two evils next to the Sith

when it came to the bradford family, they were considered the perfect all american family. william a well known fashion photographer, who grew up with wealth but still made a name for himself. emma bradford, an attorney, who's story really inspired people that no matter where you come from you can still become someone. and the moment joshua was adopted, it was like he had the whole world at the palm of his hands. his parents encouraging him to do whatever his heart desired.
joshua's story could have been different though. the first five years of his life he was raised by an amazing woman, his birth mother, lucy davis. his father was never in the picture, and that was okay, because he had lucy. but one night after a shift at the night and dine, a storm was brewing. driving back home was more difficult than expected, and out of nowhere a truck came driving towards her, ending in disaster.
with no record of his father, and there not being a next of kin to take joshua, he was eventually placed with the bradfords, who fostered the young josh. and they had fallen in love with joshua, even when he was so quiet and timid to begin with, but once he felt comfortable, they love how thoughtful, creative and sweet he was. they knew that they wanted him, and they decided to adopt him.
growing up with the bradfords, he was coming to his own. he loved his parents, and he loved what they did, always interested in what they do, specifically with his father's photography. his creative side being shown more and more, it was clear where his interest lied. so his parents had gotten him his first camera at thirteen. and his love for photography grew, amongst the rest of the arts.
he had accomplished a lot in his quarter life. winning photo competitions, going to college, and graduating with a business and photography degree. and now, he wants help young artist fulfill their dreams just like he was fulfilling his own. but there was still one thing he wanted to do before he started it all, he wanted to find who his birth father is. the problem was, there was no information on him. and he felt like it was finding a needle in a haystack. but he wasn't going to give up.

a love so powerful: this is the person that joshua never saw coming. yes, he has been in relationships before, and has hooked up with others, but this man really was someone he fell for first. the thing was, did he even feel the same? he never got so flustered like this before. and josh really is stuck feeling like that one awkward teenager he once was.
you are my brother: can be someone he grew up with and they are inseparable or possible the bradford's birth child. either way, him and joshua have been attached to the hip, and whenever one is around, so is the other. so watch out, cause they might bring some chaos.
best friends for life: if there was one person josh confided in practically everything, it was always his best friend. she's the girl that he tended to gravitate around for years, they even shared their first kiss together, and tried the dating, but decided that being friends was the right move. she's the one he always cared what she thought.
from bully to friends: it's crazy how the jock and the art kid once to hate each other. tale as old as time. but growing up had changed them both. one night out together and they ended up having a good time. who would have thought these unlikely duo would be good friends.

(trying to find the right poses)
What would you say are the preferred lightsaber forms of our dearly beloved disaster trio? (and also Mary and Shannon)
For me, I can see Beatrice switching between the elegance of Makashi and the unbreaking wall of Soresu (the little overachiever would of course be more than capable of using more than one form) (and that fight in chapter 2 of LB had total Soresu vibes from Bea).
And Ava, who is always so aware/absorbed/active in the Force, I can see leaning more into Niman to compensate between use of the force and the actual physical demands of the form. Or maybe Ataru, because of how she already automatically leans into the Force to enhance her natural movements, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for her to take it further in her lightsaber form (and also the little energizer bunny isn't exactly the type to stay contained. she totally has ketamine-gremlin-yoda vibes)
Lilith, I can see with Forms V or VII (or both, considering her proficiency with a blade). I can see her leaning into the physicality required for Shien/Djem So, as well as the practicality of it for both saber and blaster combat. But also Juyo, for the aggressive chaos and sheer strength of body, mind, and will it requires to sustain (and I cannot unsee the parallels between her and Maul).
What do you think?
oh you are wonderful for getting me thinking seriously about this. i trained in kendo for years as a kid, so usually i meld that and my karate to write (sword)fighting scenes, but this is giving me so much more to work with.
so, thinking on the lighsaber form of the star wars au cast:
Mary would definitely use form 5. probably both variations. she fought extensively during the Clone Wars & would have seen the value in a lightsaber form that prioritised deflecting blaster bolts over duelling.
she wouldn’t have gravitated towards Soresu, i think, because she is naturally more aggressive than that, and she wants options available to her for initiating conflict, as opposed to responding to it. Shien is excellent for fighting in battlefield conditions. like Soresu in its emphasis on deflecting blaster bolts, but also more assertive - often redirecting those bolts into other opponents, or environmental hazards.
the Djem So side of things she would be less, but still somewhat, practiced in. she'd see the value in aggressive close combat duelling tactics, but ultimately her preference is for Shien. Djem So is her go-to for fighting other lightsaber-users though, because it offers a solid set of options, but relies less on the kind of wild acrobatics that many other Jedi employ.
she is not so accomplished at Djem So as in Shien, mostly because she’s not a natural duelist, specialising in battlefield command, usually fighting among Republic Clone Troopers. Mary also, even before Order 66, carried and used a blaster in addition to her lightsaber.
Shannon: Soresu. Shannon is a very Obi-Wan Kenobi/ Luke Skywalker character. she’s dedicated to the beliefs of the Jedi - she is about balance, harmony, hence why she has a green saber - and Soresu exemplifies the Jedi philosophy.
it is also incredibly useful in a variety of situations (all about exposing minimal targets to the enemy, thinking of Luke practicing en-route to Alderaan); it’s resilliant and adaptable, and as a diplomat - probably one of the few Jedi who were called in to deal with complex scientific issues (read: the time when Shannon ended up in a star wars equivalent of the movie “Alien” along with Mary, back in their early days together) Shannon would have favoured Soresu as a defensive form.
she’s a self-sacrificial sort of person, too, and you can see Soresu in the way that she defends Ava from Crimson in chapter 1 (an echo of Obi-Wan in A New Hope). i think she almost took Niman after mastering form 1 back in her padawan days, but something (Mary) changed her mind about spending 10 years studying it.
Bea: oh! i definitely think that Bea is melding different forms together (certainly she’s borrowing aspects from her Jedi and her Sith training).
so yes, she uses Makashi on the Sith side of things (because it is Lilith who retrains her in the lightsaber after she is tortured; she has to adapt to her shattered elbow, which will always be weak. hence why Makashi - a (frequently) one-handed fighting style - is an ideal style for her to fall back).
i think she is trained in Soresu, but she had to abandon it - again, because of her injury - though she retains the tactical instincts of that style, despite adapting to a more aggressive outlook. Soresu requires too much dual-dexterity.
instead of Soresu, Bea picks up Ataru. the force-assisted acrobatics and the fluidity of it suit her perfectly - plus the aggression. she’s all about sliding through an opponent’s space, slipping past their guard, or simply coming at them from an angle they don’t expect. the combo of Makashi - THE duelling form - and Ataru would i think be Potent. both elegant, but Makashi playing into her calculating, strategic side - all about the footwork and controlling yourself AND your foe - plus the explosive power of Ataru and also its use of the Force, which, as we all know, Beatrice is incredibly powerful with. bringing out the blunt-force side of her fighting instincts. i think the ch 2 pit fight showcased her ability to balance aggression with manipulation, and also to come at her opponent with vicious speed and end the fight swiftly and efficiently (a hallmark of Ataru)
Lilith: you’re totally right. i think 100% Lilith would use form 7 - and Juyo specifically. she’s not trained in the same way as others, & i think was pretty swiftly thrown into battle after mastering form 1 and being taught elements of Makashi (which she later perfected, just because she could) but in her heart she’s a form 7 practitioner.
it requires both immense aggression, a level of viciousness, and also a focus on emotion and domination. i think from what we see of Lilith’s fighting style she is MUCH more brutal than Beatrice (her fight style resembles Kenpo karate)
Juyo is described in one of the novels as a form filled with “malignant grace” <- could we describe darling dearest Lil any better?? in ch. 2 her leaping attack really exemplifies the sudden volatility of form 7.
it also requires a lot of internalised Force energy, which, considering Lilith’s unique relationship with the Force (and her augmentation with magick) would be ideal for her. it also LOOKS messy, but it is, in fact, astonishing grace hidden inside of staccato movements. considering Some Plans i have, that would suit Lilith perfectly - yes, she seems like an untamed thing, but she is in fact as deft and calculated as Beatrice, and Juyo allows her to use her fury to her advantage, and also her overwhelming physical prowess, because she really IS probably the most physically adept out of all of them.
Ava: i think for Ava i spoke in ch 1 about her being absolutely angelic with the lightsaber, and also Ava knows physics. she loves acrobatics and she ADORES aerial acrobatics, specifically - particularly aviation and ship manoeuvers. she knows g-forces and how not to pass out while pitching and rolling in atmosphere.
so i think she is a pure Ataru practitioner. form 4, with its focus on acrobatics and dynamic movement, would appeal to her desire to move and to fly and to be rooted anywhere but into the ground. it is also incredibly offensive (a good echo of Ava’s ‘i’m more of a punch-first type girl’ comment). and it DOES emphasise the force, but specifically for movement.
i think Ava, depending a lot of Shannon’s incredibly Force-abilities, would lean into the more embodied side of the Force - speed, agility, and a no-holds-barred offence would absolutely suit Ava - though, of course, Ataru is really incredibly dependent on the practitioner’s strong connection to the Force, which early-star wars au Ava does not have.
but yes the quickness of it, the jumping and the almost phasing through space with Force-enhanced speed, all of it would suit Ava. i think, probably, she will have to adjust eventually to learn some techniques for dealing efficiently with blaster-bolts and projectiles. i think also there’s an extent to which Ava’s use of Ataru is tempered somewhat by her training in Soresu, from Shannon. i think she leaned into the beauty and the ferociousness of Ataru, but now that she doesn’t have her Master anymore there’ll be an element of melding those styles together, learning to protect herself because Shannon - who always, always protected her - has stood between Ava and her death for the last time.

This was more than pain.
This was a trauma that had sunk it's teeth into her flesh for so many years, silently tearing away at her so now that she had time to think about it, Ahsoka came crashing down.
(aka ahsoka is Depressed™, finally realizes that she is a mess, and painfully makes her way back to having a family)

Ahsoka sucked in a ragged breath, trying to ignore the burning behind her eyes. Anakin reached for her in the Force, and tendrils of guilt and regret, all saturated with undercurrents of love, surrounded her. She knew he was trying to let her in, to not bury everything he felt behind a mask he’d worn long before Vader. Anakin was learning from his mistakes, trying to do better just like she knew he would. But she had to get through this, first. Ahsoka needed to learn her own lessons, too.

The Padawan – Ahsoka – approached him respectfully, yet with a bit of uncertainty. She looked tired, but so many of his students did, nowadays. “Do I still have some absences that I need to provide a mission excuse for?”
“No, no need to worry, everything appears fine in that regard.” In regard of providing an excuse, at least, not really in regard of the number of those excuses, he commented internally, quickly disregarding the intrusive thought. “You were, however, supposed to turn in your assignment on a chosen battle from the Cold War today…”
He could see the realization dawning on her face, as he’s seen it on so many others in similar circumstances.

The Son never left Ahsoka, not really. And now she has to deal with the paranoia that comes with having a Force-Being making you go crazy.

The disaster trio returns to Geonosis and Ahsoka faces the threat of heatstroke.

letter prompts / accepting@fairyt0ld sent: [ REVELATION ]: a letter written that reveals the truth about an event(s) that the writer believes the recipient may be misinformed about. from mama!
Tumblr media
Mom,
I'm not sure how to say this, I've been struggling with it since the moment I killed Snoke. I know you've tried getting me to talk about what happened that night, at the academy, before then, but only after Snoke was gone did I feel like I could talk about it. Even then, it's a difficult subject. I'm still not sure where to begin, but what is more, I don't know what you'll say, what you'll think, and...
It scares me.
I've known from the moment it happened that no one would believe me, and I was proven right on several occasions. With Sky--- With Luke back, I'm not sure what he's told you, or what you've heard before, but as we prepare for Exegol, I feel as if I must get my side of the story out somewhere, because I don't want to risk something happening without this having been said. I don't know how much I can even bring myself to commit to paper, but I'll try.
Here it goes.
I don't know if I was the cause of the academy burning or not, maybe I was, but I never meant for it to happen. I swear I didn't mean for it to happen. It wasn't what I'd intended, what I'd wanted. I was just--- my powers were reactive because I was scared. Lost and confused, recently betrayed and
I was angry, I was furious, but I never wanted to hurt anyone. The surviving Padawans couldn't see it, but in all honesty, it wasn't like I tried very hard to convince them otherwise. By the time they had confronted me, I'd stopped pretending that I hadn't already become the monster everyone saw me as, the monster Luke tried to prevent.
It all started in the moments before the disaster. I don't know what it was that brought him to my hut, but I remember waking up and finding Luke standing over me, lightsaber drawn and a look in his eyes that haunted me then, and still does now. I'd felt him in my head, whatever he saw set off a chain reaction that resulted in where we are now. He must have sensed what I would become, what I would do, and he--- I reacted and brought my hut down around us. I thought I'd hurt him, I didn't want to but I'd just needed him to stop---
You'll have to ask him why he did what he did that night, because I don't know. All I know is that I'm still afraid of what it means. Even now, with all I've tried to do to make up for what I did as Kylo Ren, that night hangs over my head. After all, Luke Skywalker was the one who saw the good in Darth Vader, the father he barely knew, after everything he did to him, his family, and the galaxy, and fought so hard to bring him back to the Light.
What does that say about me, that he wouldn't even try to do the same for the nephew he'd watched grow up? Was I already that far gone, is there even any hope for me now?
Despite whatever the answer to that may be, I want you to know that I didn't 'snap' that night, I didn't mercilessly slaughter all of my classmates. I did kill three of the Padawans that confronted me... but I can't entirely claim self-defense with all of them, this I confess. I regret everything death at my hand that night, for whatever it's worth.
I don't expect the others to believe me, but I don't care what they think. The only opinion that matters to me right now is yours.
If you wish to talk about this more after Exegol... I would be willing, granted we all are still alive after this. My only hope is that you'll forgive me, and that my legacy with my niece and Ani will be something worth remembering their uncle and brother for.
That, and that we'll see each other again.
Your son,
Ben

PERSONALITY
disaster is the best way to describe dr. chelli aphra. she swings wildly from one convoluted plan to the next, largely concerned with her own self interest. the only certainty from her is her betrayal - and she has a long list of enemies and double crossed allies to attest to it. but she isn’t exactly proud of the fact.
deep down, aphra longs to be a good person. she is wracked with guilt over her own selfishness. when she has time to stop and think, she wants to help others…but her first impulse is often the worst, and it’s that instinct that rules when danger comes knocking.
fiercely intelligent, she relies on her wits more than anything. there isn’t a situation where she doesn’t have a plan b ( often at the expense of someone else ). the machinations of the galaxy at large don’t bother her too much. she believes in the strength of order, even though it comes at the expense of some personal freedom. having lost her mother to the chaos of the clone wars, she understands the empire brought solace just as often as it brought terror.
but that’s for the normal people of the galaxy. she considers herself above needing the help of the empire, the rebels, or anyone else, for that matter. aphra tends to keep those closest to her at arm’s length, thinking the kindest thing to do for someone if you can’t change is to protect them from your flaws. those that remain too close tend to get dragged down with her.
Tumblr media
HISTORY
aphra's family life was turbulent. her father's obsession with the jedi of the past led her mother to leave in the middle of the night, spiriting her away to a boring planet in the outer rim, where nothing ever seemed to happen — until one day, it did. raiders arrived at their small homestead, killing her mother before imperial troops could arrive and return her to her father's dubious care.
despite her distaste, she followed in his footsteps, pursuing archaeology at the university of bar'leth. there she was forced to cheat in order to obtain her doctorate, after the sava made it known he would never allow her to obtain it through legitimate means. aphra stole his research, planted it as her own discovery, and no one was ever the wiser.
since then she's made her living traversing the galaxy, extracting rare artifacts for profit and teaming up with the occasional bounty hunter or gang.
eventually darth vader himself sought her out, and in him she found an exciting new purpose. aphra secured him a new droid army, countless imperial credits, and tracked down the location of luke skywalker. but she knew her days were numbered, and in the end, faked her own death at his hands in order to escape.
afterwards she went back to the same old, combing the galaxy far, far away for items of historical and monetary significance. see her wookiepedia page for greater details of her exploits.

WISHLIST
SANA STARROS: i'm a big fan of these two, and would love to explore a friends-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-divorced-to-lovers with the two of them.
BOUNTY HUNTER CONTACTS: aphra deals a lot with the classic underground of the star war's universe. i'd love to explore more of that aspect of her adventure's!
DEBTS: aphra always owes someone something. feel free to take advantage of these in interactions.
COLLEGE DAYS: aphra attended university as a student, and i'd love to have relationships from that time if you're interested in something pre-existing!

THIS is my ao3 account.
And THIS is the list of fics I'm currently working on. As in... Will update within a week or two for the first time in months. Yay.
Behind the wheel
Or, Ezra Bridge wreaks havoc in a fourth book of a story while all the lore I mashed up from both legends, EU, whatever The old Republic and Mouse canon. For full comprehension of what's going on, I recommend reading the entire series Living the Truth. You can skip Rebel celebrations, since it's not for everyone and doesn't contain any actual story worth.
Thick as blood
Betrayal, newfound self and starting again as a new person. Luke Skywalker is in for a ride with his father and no one else than the emperor Palpatine himself! Buckle up!
Magical Forceling
I decided to indulge myself in a crossover! Yeaaaaahhhh.... Harry Potter, but he has the Force! A recipe for disaster and way too much angst.
And then finally (!) the works that aren't technically abandoned.... But also aren't my priority rn...
LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE ON MY PROFILE THAT'S NOT MARKED FINISHED.
Oh and The Third Side... I've accidentally marked that story as completed.... But it's not. My bad. I know.

“Have you come to destroy me, Obi-Wan?”
Anakin. My dude. My guy. You followed him. You have literally spent the last 10 years hunting him across the galaxy. 10 years, who knows how many innocents tortured and murdered, millions of Imperial credits, military personnel hours and equipment wasted, being party to the kidnap of a planetary leader’s child and just straight up telling the grand inquisitor ‘fuck literally everyone else in this universe, myself, you and the emperor included, Kenobi is my first, second and third priority’ and then proceeding to turn a whole star destroyer around to follow Obi-Wan Kenobi - and he pulls “have you come to destroy me?”
The level of self-absorption and victim complex? Iconic. The complete lack of self-awareness? Incredible.
This man really has never in his life had a clue what he was doing, not for one single solitary second. Obi-Wan got away in 1x03 because after 10 years Vader 100% panicked and had no clue what he wanted to do with Obi-Wan once he actually had him. Luke got away in ESB because after chasing his son across the galaxy for a year Vader only got as far as ‘fight him, probably bring him to the Emperor, maybe break the news that I’m his dad at some point, I’ll figure it out as I go - should be fine’.
Obi-Wan’s entire strategy every time he faces Vader is ‘wait for him to do something stupid and impulsive’ and it works every single time.
Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader runs on vibes and vibes alone. No thoughts just very questionable instincts and a complete lack of forethought. He’s an absolute disaster and I love him very much.
(this is clearly a genetic trait because his kids + grandkids in both canon and legends aren’t much better)

Luke “Self-Disaster” Skywalker
(rises from the sewers) And yet another Luke head-cannon: he struggles with self-care and self-preservation. Our boy is so in-tune with everything he sorta just forgets he exists? Like, he is exhausted and shaky and people are all like, “you sensing something?” and he's all, “oh, no...I think I forgot to eat.” and everyone is collectively “Luke when did you last eat...look at me, Luke, when did you last eat...Luke, stop trying to escape to the X-Wing, LUKE HOW MANY DAYS HAS IT BEEN?!”
OR
“Luke, you’re soaking wet.” “ahah, yeah, fell in a lake.” “why haven’t you changed?” and he’s all, “i dunno?” and everyone is just “....we’re on Hoth. Your skin is literally turning blue. Luke, get changed and warm. No, no the mission doesn’t come first. NO, NO MISSION. YOU’RE ABOUT TO DIE, LUKE.”
OR
Din, begging, “Love, you need to sleep...beloved, you haven’t slept in five days. You don’t need to study or train, Luke. You need sleep. You’re killing me, Luke. You’re killing your husband. if it’s the nightmares again I’ll hug you or something.” Practically sobbing, “Babe you just walked into a wall cause you can’t see straight...no, now is not the time for gay-puns. Oh my god, go tO SLEEP.”
AND
Leia and Din probably have to get a squirt bottle and spray it at him whenever he decides he’s gonna do the Dangerous Thing (tm) cause the Force told him to or something. It has yet to have any affect.
