A Ride to Remember

You have no idea how you ended up like this. As far as you remember, it was supposed to be a study session for Ran who was failing miserably.

The teacher had suggested Ran take peer tuition from you. He had walked outside the classroom and looked at you. Your eyes meet. Amethyst pupils…Ran Haitani's eyes were the prettiest you had ever seen. He looked at you half liddlely, twirling his dual-coloured braids in his fingers.

The expression on his face was unreadable. You can feel your heart pounding in your chest. You couldn't help but be embarrassed, but you couldn't help but stare at the tall and broad-shouldered man in front of you. His eyes scanned you up and down and then he smiled, his intense gaze softening. You felt a warmth spread through your body as if the sun came out of behind the clouds.

"Y/N could you come here for a moment, I need to talk to you,” he had said to you and you nodded apprehensively at your friends before following your older classmate. He's bad news. Everyone knows that. They avoid him like the plague. It's just him and Rin.

"What is up?" you asked softly, your heart was beating out of your chest due to an expression you don't know.

Ran took a deep breath and rubbed the nape of his neck, “So uh I don’t know how to put this, but I am failing all my classes and our homeroom teacher recommended me to talk to you if you would be interested in giving me peer tuition...since you are smart and stuff.” He said awkwardly and looks at your reaction.

You bit your lip as you considered all the options. He's a delinquent, a violent person, a known bad boy and basically the kid your parents tell you to stray away from. But its studies. if anything goes wrong you can always tell the teacher, right? There is no harm in giving him a chance... that's what you had thought.

Ran Haitani was insufferable.

"Wait what- how did you do that?" he asks, keeping his head on the table, like a puppy and you almost get the urge to pet this murderous delinquent.

You sigh and explain for the 5th time, "See you can't apply y=mx+c here since the graph is clearly not a linear function. It's not a straight line, but a symmetric curve. What did I say it is?"

Ran looks at you blankly and then answers, "Cubic function...?"

You facepalm at his answer and then look back at him, "It's a Quadratic function. y= ax^2 + bx + c."

"Ohh, now I get it." Ran nods and quickly scribbles in his notebook.

You sigh and rest your head on your palm as you look at Ran. Whenever he writes, his dual-colored braids move slightly. His knuckles are bruised as if he punched someone, and there is a tiny mole just above his lips. The way his lashes flutter innocently when he reads the problems almost makes your heart race. You can't help but be drawn to him, even though you know you shouldn't be. He looks up and catches your eye, and you quickly look away, feeling embarrassed. You take a deep breath and try to focus on the paper in front of you.

"Done," he says enthusiastically and you take his notebook and scan through the equations, you then look up at him with a smile and nod, "All correct, good job."

Ran smiles proudly and leans back on the chair, "You are a good teacher." You smile at his words and lean back in your chair, observing him silently.

"Say, Y/N," he asks quietly, "do you have a boyfriend?" He spins the pen between his fingers with dexterity. You look at him for a moment, feeling a slight flush on your cheeks. You shake your head lightly, averting your gaze. "No," you say, your voice soft and airy, "I don't have a boyfriend."

His gaze lingers on you for a moment, his lips curling into a small smile. He nods his head ever so slightly and turns back to his work, spinning his pen in his fingers.

It's Ran Haitani, you have to remind yourself. The notorious delinquent of your school. You can't help but feel your heart flutter in your chest. He had always been a mysterious figure, never talking to anyone, but in that moment, he had seemed almost human. He wasn't the same person that everyone whispered about in the hallways, but someone more complex and intriguing.

"What are you thinking about?" he asks and rests his face on his palm. "Well anyways I think this unit is done." He says proudly.

You nod and pack up your things, "I guess that's it for today, I'll let you know if I'll continue the tuition by Monday. You say, ready to leave as he grabs your hand.

"Wait," he says gently, "let me walk you home." He wants to make sure you get home safely and is showing a kind gesture by offering to walk you home. He also might be trying to extend the conversation and see if you want to continue having tuitions in the future.

"Alright." You two leave the library and walk in silence for a while. Your tote bag with books slung over your shoulder.

The sidewalk is almost empty. The two of you stroll toward your house peacefully, but suddenly a rampant kid approaches with his bike out of control and you don't know what to do. At this point, he is incapable of controlling the bike due to its speed. "Move!" he shouts, unable to control the bike.

Ran panics as he thinks of a way to escape and does what seems the closest escapade. He pushes you and himself towards a wall on the right, his hand behind your head. Ran looks back at the kid, scowling at him and then he looks into your eyes as his breathing speeds up. He has you pinned to the wall. Your watery eyes peering up at him almost make him want to tilt his head and capture your lips in his.

He coughs and moves away, a faint blush adorning his face. "Let's go." He says as you two walk towards your house. There is silence again, but it is awkward.

He pauses as you two reach your house. You nod at him, about to enter in as he says.

"I look forward to our next tutoring session, Y/N. Maybe this time I could teach you a thing or two."

So there he was on the floor of your dorm room, the importance of the university assignment is finally hitting him.

“How do we get the research? Is the internet enough?” He had asked and you shook your head.

“It’s such an oddly specific topic that if can only be done by a few textbooks that are in the library. It would be closed by now! The deadline is tomorrow.” You said rubbing your finger on you temples.

Hanma sighs, his tongue rests on the corner of his lips,”Its my fault I get it, it was a two people project, you handled so much on your own while I was preoccupied with gang shenanigans.” He said, for once taking his education seriously because he knows this accounts to huge percentage of the aggregate and more importantly cause it’s you.

"Lets sneak into the library then," he said and you frowned.

"What? Its 11 PM right now, it must be closed." You huffed.

"Just trust me."

....

The lock opened with a click and he urged you to go in first. You bite your lips and climb into the low window with Hanma's help. His long fingers grip your waist as he easily hoists you up on the sill and the climbs up himself. His tall stature making it easy for him.

You both land on the library floor with a plop and Hanma whispers, "where is it?"

"Probably the left wing, lets go," you whisper back , standing up as you walk slowly to the set of shelves.

Hanma switches on the flash of his phone as he searches through the titles with you, checking the spines of the books, you look at the downward shelves while he checks the upper ones.

"Got it!" He exclaims and takes out the book and shows it to you. You nod in approval at his efficiency. You both switch off the flash and are about to leave when the guard's footsteps are heard.

Your eyes widen as you look at Hanma with a fear-struck expression. Hanma quickly grabs your hand and huddles at the back of the rack with you. He gazes behind the shelves and both of your heartbeats are pounding.

The guard flashes the torch around and leaves. You breathe a sigh of relief, but soon realise the way you are pressed against him. Hanms seemed unfazed, but you could tell that wasn't the case by his rapid breathing and heart thumping under your hand.

You could feel the tension between the two of you, the palpable heat radiating off Hanma's body as you pressed up against him. You both seemed spellbound at the moment, neither willing to break the gaze or the silence that hung in the air.

His hand shakily reaches your cheek to brush the strands of hair that fall on your face. His amber eyes, seemed to be searching for an answer in yours, as though he was trying to read your mind and uncover the secrets of your soul through your gaze alone. You could feel the intensity of the moment, each of you seemingly lost in the other in a way that felt both frightening and exhilarating at the same time.

" 'S pretty," he mumbles hoarsely like it's your name, his back against the side of the bookshelf. He whispers with a dulcet voice that kissed the air like the smell of a fresh blossom of Night Jasmine.

He did this cause he was guilty that has stressed you out more. You who makes an annoying softness in his heart light up, how he subconsciously bends a little while he talks to you, bites his tongue from using crude words…what have you done to him?

You were supposed to be just another student in his batch, when did he get addicted to your voice? When did he start noticing your perfume notes?

It's only an attraction he thinks. Only pure infatuation that comes with your expressive eyes and endearing demeanour...but it's not, it's so much more at it kills him.

He then snaps back into reality and helps you up on your feet, giving you no chance to question his words, "Let's finish the assignment first...we could go for coffee tomorrow."

I went to the Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes exhibit and wanted to share for anyone who has not seen it. I am under the impression that the installation changes from location to location so I wanted to show this snapshot in time. I fully admit to being biased in what I will post so if you want to see a particular character, please let me know! Apologies ahead of time for my crappy photo taking skills.

Okay, see that picture above? Yeah. That's it. I looked through the whole exhibit and only saw that ONE wall display of Deadpool. Is it possible that I could have missed something? Yes. But do I think I did? Not really.

Which makes me basically think, what the hell man?!?! Where's Deadpool?! If you got space on the wall for freaking Morbius then where is my Merc with a Mouth??? Also his reading material of choice? 👇👇👇

Did @vancityreynolds commission this particular art installation? Because this is exactly the kind of shit he would pull to troll Chris Evans.

The ONLY saving grace from my disappointment was that as I was approaching the wall art of Deadpool, the sweetest and most adorable child voice says: "Look! It's Deadpool!" with happiness and glee. Then his (who I assume is his mother), said: "Oh. My. GOD." with the disgust and disdain reserved for a forgotten box of takeout that got shoved so far to the back of the fridge that it became its own ecosystem and is now declaring independence.

The sheer willpower I had to apply not to burst out laughing was monumental. Knowing that Deadpool is out there corrupting our youth to the horror of their probably sensible parents brought me so much joy. It was just enough to overcome my sadness that this exhibit had no section for Deadpool.

But you know what wasn't going to let me down? That's right, The Gift Shop. Because Deadpool ain't gonna be showcased in the legitimate exhibit space but oh no, capitalism don't care about optics! There's shirts! There's magnets! There's hats! THERE'S COOKBOOKS!

And of course it was going to be a chimichanga recipe! Did we ever have a doubt? I will say this looked better than Captain America's Beef Tongue Terrine recipe that was also in the book. (Sorry Steve...)

Oh and speaking of more Deadpool and Captain America synergy, remember I mentioned hats? Yeah. Just a whole ass display of beanies that only came in two designs. Like...this was a CHOICE, okay? It can't be a fucking coincidence that they only had these two options.

Honestly by the time I was done my 5th lap of the gift shop, I wondered if this is how Cameo Chris Evans felt watching Free Guy and seeing Ryan Reynolds just do whatever the fuck he wants with the shield.

I mean, I know I sound like a whiny punk ass but not even a single comic cover of Deadpool? 😭😭😭 Omg the fangirl tears I would have wept at seeing a Spider-Man/Deadpool cover! Did Ryan and Andrew kissing at the Golden Globes mean nothing to you, Marvel?!?!

Fuck No! I love that museum, okay? They do awesome work. This was obviously an oversight done by the person I blame any time Marvel shits its pants: Kevin Feige. Maybe also the Russo brothers.

Uhh...well I got these.

I am about to lose

MY MOTHERFUCKING MIND

I can't remember if I've posted about it on here. I think I have. But I've been trying to get solar installed on my house since LAST DECEMBER and it has been an absolute nightmare.

Back on March 10th I finally signed the papers and settled on getting solar panels.

When I first ordered the panels I was very clear that I wanted as many as we could squeeze onto my garage roof, as it gets the most sun for the longest portion of the day. And then I wanted some on my house roof to power whatever those panels on the garage couldn't cover. They said no problem sounds great.

They did tell me that it can take a couple months to get the approval back from the county, as my county is very stingy with solar panels. I said cool no worries I get it. It's just bureaucratic bullshit. Nothing to be done.

So finally on July 5th I got my solar panels installed. 4 months after I first signed for these panels.

The day of the install I was working from home. They came to my door and had me approve the "final" plans and got to work. In the early afternoon they came to the door again and said they were finished. I came out to look and noticed there were NO PANELS ON THE GARAGE.

So I went out and talked to the solar guys and I was like "you're done? What about the garage?" And they very proudly said "oh we were able to fit them all on the house roof."

My eye definitely started twitching a little but I was like... Okay well what's done is done. That's really not great that they didn't consult me about the changes but... They know best right?

So the guy takes me around to show me how to turn on the panels once I they pass their final inspection "in about 10 business days," and the solar guys went on their merry way.

So a few weeks go by and I never hear about the inspection from our power company. So I call them and they tell me they're waiting on paperwork from the solar company.

So I call the solar company and get told "hmmm I'm not sure. I'll reach out to the project manager and have them give you a call."

Week goes by. No call.

So I call again and finally get told "oh. So we're waiting for the COS forms to come back from your county."

Do you know what a COS form is?

Change of Scope. It's a form that has to be sent back to the county to approve when changes are made to the layout. So you know how it took 4 months to get the solar approved the first time? Yeah now I had to wait for the plans to be approved AGAIN before an inspection could be done.

The only reason the COS had to be submitted was because of the changes made to the plans WITHOUT MY CONSENT OR APPROVAL.

So there went all of July with all of it's beautiful peak sun. And then August. And September. Finally in the beginning of October it all got approved and the inspectors were sent out, the final inspection having taken place on Oct 18th. I was told I could turn on my panels. Finally.

BUT I still don't have working solar panels. Once I got the okay to turn them on, on the 18th, I did so, following the instructions the install tech had given me back in July. I assumed they were on, until I got the app set up to tell me what each panel is producing, etc and it told me I've produced nothing.

Then I get an email a couple days later with instructions on how to turn it all on. There are a few more steps than the solar install guy told me so I went out to try it. The problem is, half of the steps don't seem to apply to the setup I was give.

For example step one in turning it on is to flip the solar panel switch in the breaker that should have been installed on the day the solar panels were installed.

No such breaker switch was installed. They never came inside, never installed anything on our breaker panel.

There's also this little red nob that is supposed to be flipped to one specific position. But my little red nob does have two options like the instructions, it has three options. And none of them make the green light stay on like the instructions say. So I still am not producing power and no one will answer my emails as to how to get it turned on.

Now. On top of all of this, consider that my power company has been steadily raising the bills. My power bill is nearly double what it was this time last year. And by now I should be on solar power, but I'm not. So it's cost me nearly $1000 in power bills I shouldn't have had to pay.

The other fun thing is this: I'm "on grid" meaning I'm producing the solar energy, giving it back to the power company, and they basically credit me for what is produced. Any surplus that I produce during the peak months is supposed to be credited back to me during the winter, when the panels are covered in snow or the sun is at a bad angle or behind clouds. Theoretically I should produce enough power during the summer to get me through the winter without having to pay a power bill.

But because it's now October and I still don't have solar, I'm going to be paying power bills all winter because I won't be producing enough solar power to cover what I use. Because I never got to store up that surplus.

So it's cost me money in power bills all summer, and it will cost me money in power bills all winter. It's STILL NOT WORKING. And in the meantime, I'm having to start paying the $60 a month for the loan payments for the solar panels THAT AREN'T DOING JACK SHIT.

All the solar company has offered is to reimburse me for the September payment. Which I actually need to reach out to them on because they never did send me a check or anything. So for all this hassle and insanity, I've been given $60 in theory.

I have seriously never been this angry in my entire life. I can't afford to speak to like... A lawyer to see if there's anything legally that can be done. I can't get through to anyone at the solar company to just get the damn things working. Keep in mind I lost my job so I have no income to pay for all these bills I wasn't expecting.

Stay away from Titan Solar Company.

Running Towards Something

I have this headcanon (that @gregorygerwitz helped me flesh out! ) So the headcanon is that Jay fell into the wrong crowd growing up and maybe was picked up a few times before an Army Recruiter spoke to his class in high school and changed the trajectory of his life.

From that: This one shot was born! Hope you enjoy.... I put it under the cut! It does touch vaguely on his mom’s Cancer and has tiny other headcanons included like: I think Will didn’t really party or hang with the wrong crowd til college when he was out of Canaryville. I think the dad worked in construction. I think the mom had cancer when Jay was a kid, but maybe it was more agressive when he was an adult.

To Jay, growing up on the South Side of Chicago meant that you either stuck your head in a book or were an athlete and got out when you turned 18 and never looked back; or you fell into the wrong crowd and felt stuck in the cycle forever. Jay knew from day one which route his older brother, Will, had taken. But what he hadn’t realized - until it was too late, was he took route two.

At first it started with petty crimes, like shoplifting a candy bar from the 7/11 down the street. Then it was pickpocketing the poor sucker on the ‘L’ who kept their wallet in their back pocket exposed. Somewhere between the time his dad took on more hours at his construction job and his mom making frequent trips to the hospital, he began pocketing more “big ticket” items, like the time he and his “friends” decided to steal from 5 different high end stores on Michigan Avenue during the Festival of Lights Parade. Sometime around this time, the police started picking him up and returning him to his home in Canaryville. He can still remember the disappointment etched on his mother’s face when the police showed up for the 5th time that week and claimed the next time he would spend the weekend in Juvie.

It didn’t click that maybe just maybe he was on the wrong path, until one day an Army recruiter came and spoke to the junior class about a career in the Army. They claimed that most kids from the South Side are running from something and they should try running towards something for a change. They talked about how the Army can provide underprivileged kids with the means to go to college. The words that clicked for Jay were ‘run towards something’. Jay didn’t see college as a viable option for himself, since he had spent his days, since middle school, reeking havoc on the streets. Will was much better suited for the lifestyle of college anyway.

When Jay’s 3 year enlistment contract came up, he had fallen in love with the job! He had found friends who had accepted him and his flaws. He really did feel like he had a sense of purpose - he had climbed his way up to an elite Ranger! - and he felt like he was making a difference in the world around him. So it was no surprise when he re-enlisted for an additional 3 years.

When tragedy struck and he and Mouse were the only survivors from their IED Humvee accident, he was forced to come home on a medical discharge. He felt lost. He found himself back on his childhood home couch - they had converted his bedroom into a healing space for his mom, who was going through round 2 of the big C and was unfortunately terminal this time around. - He found himself turning to drugs, alcohol, and sex to help fill the void in his heart.

As much as he enjoyed his little bender, what he was truly missing was on the tip of his tongue, he just refused to let it out. Until one day he was on an ‘L’ platform in the city, when he saw a sign advertising the Chicago Police Force. Their tag line was ‘have a purpose and make a difference in your community.’ Reading those 2 lines, is what made it click for him! The next day - after he was sober for more than 24 hours - he walked into the 21st district and applied for the Academy.

He had been a detective for over 10 years! In the most elite unit. He had slowly been losing the purpose that gave him a drive everyday to come to work and go home to his wife. He felt himself slipping and losing a sense of who he was. So it was no surprise when a case revolving around an ex Military Veteran, he would get attached. He learned that there was a spot open for someone to lead a team of enlistees. The last time he felt a genuine sense of ‘purpose’ was when he was in the Army. So it was a no brainer when he signed up and shipped out to find who he once was.

On the plane ride there, he thought back through his life and realized that the Army recruiter had saved him that day. He propelled his whole life in a new trajectory with the few simple words ‘run towards something not away from something’

same, i usually don't follow any sports but everyone's talking about it so 🤷‍♀️ i wish you luck with maths! i don't do much of that anymore but i remember how painful it was 😭 no matter how much i studied for some reason i could never get a good score...anyways i'm very sure you won't turn out like me! i have faith in you! 😭

yeah, this is the longest term,,,which is good but also kinda bad. my mock exams start next term i believe, and then the term after is basically full of actual exams, which im not looking forward to ://

we basically start vacation "officially" the 24th and we'll proba be back by the 5th?? pulling my hair out rn . these btches i swear.

on the bright side tho!!! next year im choosing my bachiller (we have 6 years primary, 4 secondary, and then 2 years in something called "bachillerato" in which we make some subjects related with what we want to study. then we have an exam called ebau (various, depending on the subjects we choose), and with that grade we can apply to a certain amount of universities. does that make sense?? we have other options aside from uni too but thats too much info) and i'll have no more maths, just humanities (languages, history, and other nerdy shit i enjoy lmao).

the main thing with our education styles is that is very .. closed off??? like. the US for reference is HELL. its soooo expensive qnd the level is kinda wonky? defo lower than here. HOWEVER , even then, the masters degree options and branches in and after high school are way more open than here. we have like a shit ton of careers and you have to study the full 4-5 years (or drop out) and then go for another one if you want to do something slightly different. okay maybe not really but idk i feel like im rambling a lot. im a bit stressed out about school stuff.

on another not: i relate to the math thing SO. MUCH!!! im quick w stuff like multiplications fractions etc etc but the moment functions come out.. lord have mercy. my brain stops braining. so yeah good thing my teacher knows i bother w that stuff (hes cool at least:')) physics had me crying last year).

exams are so stressful!!! i feel u hun :( i cant say i know exactly what ur going through but u are very very smart and great! u WILL pull this off evie i believe in you<33

WILD SHAPE MAGIC WEAPONS FREE

Remember: these builds aren’t necessarily about creating D&D’s most overtuned optimizations. Refresher on 5E grappling/shoving rules ( Basic rules, NerdBear, Grappler’s Manual, SkullSplitter, etc.).A bunch of random books for different Wild Shape forms (e.g.I’m also staying in Rules As Written (RAW) rails as much as I can. To make sure readers can bring these characters and concepts to most tables, I’m sticking to official Wizards-published and occasionally Adventure League-legal material. And the only thing I love more than that is when people can actually play my builds. The only thing I love more than playing D&D is designing D&D characters. If you’re looking for a frontline bruiser to dominate the battlefield, the Wildshape Wrassler is ready to constrict, claw, and gobble up any baddie that gets in their way. Starting at level 13, we’ll even be able to cheat Polymorph’s usual concentration restrictions and use a no-concentration Polymorph to become a Tyrannosaurs Rex. We can either do this while concentrating on the Druid’s best spells, or just while Raging. Our grappler-of-the-week is a primal Circle of the Moon Druid using Barbarian Reckless Attack to secure consistent advantage on grappling abilities like snake constricts and scorpion pincers. Add in some T-Rex Polymorph shenanigans like you’ve never seen before, and the Wildshape Wrassler was born. I knew some on-hit grapplers like fan-favorite Giant Toad, but didn’t realize there were so many good options at every challenge rating. I’d given up on a viable Wild Shape grappler until I really started digging through my 5E material and found a bunch of entries I had either forgotten or never knew about to begin with. Rest in peace, brawling bears and wrestling wolves of my dreams.

It’s bad enough that PHB grappling rules only apply to “a grappler with at least one free hand.” But learning that DMs would have to “adapt the rule for a handless creature?” Ugh. Really, Wizards? “ Hand?” Not “appendage?” Not “body part?” An actual “hand?” I’ve had so many handless Wild Shape grapplers crushed under the tyranny of this rule and its later Sage Advice Compendium treatment. One of 5th Edition D&D’s lamest rules is grappling’s “free hand” requirement.

Y'all amuse me💀💀

Can Fjord knock out any given member of the Nein in a single turn—without critting? Level 14 Edition!

Some of you may remember that I did a post like this a while back—found right here if you want to have a gander—but in the time since, something very important happened to Fjord's damage output: he got a third 5th level spell slot.

This only makes it EASIER for him to knock out members of his own party, so I'm back again to run the numbers on the question: can Fjord knock out any given member of the Nein in a single turn without critting?

The answer remains: yes, except Yasha. Fjord can knock out any given member of the Nein who is not Yasha in a single turn by casting Searing Smite at 5th level and applying a 5th level Divine Smite to both his attacks for a total of 146 points of damage for the turn.

Yasha will remain solely standing due to her passive resistance to radiant damage; this includes even if he takes the better damage output of Banishing Smite instead.

Just as a bonus: if he does crit, however, he can very easily knock Yasha out with a single swing of a Banishing Smite + 5th level Divine Smite; he can also instantly kill Caleb and Veth, provided she does not Uncanny Dodge, with this same swing.

The parameters of this thought exercise are:

Fjord must knock out one given member of the Nein in one turn.

This member of the Nein is at full hit points (numbers as of 2.133): Caleb, 87; Veth, 98; Beau, 120; Caduceus, 121; Jester, 140; and Yasha, 154.

Fjord's turn is the first and only turn of the initiative.

Because of the previous, the given member of the Nein is not under the effects of any ability or spell, such as Death Ward or Rage.

All attack rolls succeed, and maximum damage is rolled.

None of the attack rolls are crits. After all, if this is achievable without them, it is certainly so with them.

On the Star Razor’s damage

The Star Razor is a +3 versatile weapon that does 1d8 (1d10) slashing damage. I will be treating it as two-handed here, so it will be calculated as 1d10.

Technically, it takes a bonus action to invoke, but it's unclear how evenly that distinction is applied across Fjord's to hit and damage calculations at the table. I'm choosing to not be pedantic about this, so these numbers assume an invoked Star Razor. If you choose to be pedantic, subtract 2 points of slashing damage off each swing, turning the +8 damage bonus into a +6 (since it was previously simply a +1 longsword un-invoked).

Searing Smite, two 5th level Divine Smites

As covered in the previous edition of this, Banishing Smite is Fjord's best option for raw damage output. However, due to its effect of banishing a creature should the attack reduce them to 50 hit points or fewer, it's finicky to use when the goal is to knock out the target in a single turn. So, we're progressing directly to his second option: Searing Smite, one of my favorites.

We saw this little Smite spell against one of the frost salamanders in 2.113, and what makes Searing Smite (1st level, 1d6 fire) truly fun is that its damage scales to the spell slot used to cast it: an additional 1d6 of fire damage for every spell slot higher than 1st. When cast at 5th level, it adds a total additional 5d6 fire damage to an attack.

So, he uses his bonus action to cast Searing Smite at 5th level, then applies a 5th level Divine Smite (5d8 radiant) to both attacks. As a reminder, since this is the first turn of initiative, Hexblade's Curse was not cast.

[(1d10 + 8) slashing + 5d6 fire + 5d8 radiant] first attack + [(1d10 + 8) slashing + 5d8 radiant] second attack

[18 slashing + 30 fire + 40 radiant] first attack + [18 slashing + 40 radiant] second attack

[88 mixed] first attack + [58 mixed] second attack

146 mixed for the entire turn

That total for the turn will knock out Caleb (87), Veth (98), Beau, (120), Caduceus (121), and Jester (140). It isn't enough to knock out Yasha (154) even before her resistance to radiant damage is applied.

Veth can attempt to Uncanny Dodge the first strike, halving it to 44 points of damage. The first strike would reduce her to 54 hit points, so the second strike would still knock her out.

Can he get Yasha with Banishing Smite?

Since Yasha is still standing, it's worth revisiting the option of bonus action Banishing Smite (5th level, 5d10 force), then applying two 5th level Divine Smites to each attack:

[(1d10 + 8) slashing + 5d10 force + 5d8 radiant] first attack + [(1d10 + 8) slashing + 5d8 radiant] second attack

[18 slashing + 50 force + 40 radiant] first attack + [18 slashing + 40 radiant] second attack

[108 mixed] first attack + [58 mixed] second attack

Yasha (154) due to her passive resistance to radiant damage will take 88 points (18 slashing + 50 force + 20 radiant) of damage on the first attack, reducing her to 66 hit points; as this is above the 50 point threshold to banish, she will remain on the plane for Fjord to finish his turn, but the second attack is not enough damage to knock her out, even before her resistance is applied.

Bonus: what if he does crit?

If Fjord crits on a Banishing Smite + 5th level Divine Smite, well, the short version is that he only needs one swing. Reminder, he gets an extra 1d10 to his melee weapon crits due to Savage Attacks.

2*(1d10 slashing + 5d10 force + 5d8 radiant) + (8 + 1d10) slashing

2*(10 slashing + 50 force + 40 radiant) + (8 + 10) slashing

2*(100) mixed + 18 slashing

200 mixed + 18 slashing

218 mixed

This is literally 2.5 times Caleb's max hit points (87), killing him instantly. Even if Veth (98) tried to Uncanny Dodge, it would reduce the damage only down to 109 points, which will save her from instant death but it will still knock her out. Yasha's (154) radiant resistance will halve the Divine Smite and bring the total down to 178 points of damage, but that is still comfortably enough to knock her out.

And he'd still have a whole second attack and a 5th level spell slot for a Divine Smite leftover.

so, I have trouble classpecting myself because I feel like I apply to too many and that I don’t know myself enough. I’ve been doing research on it sense like… 5th grade and I still don’t have a solid classpect, any advice

Absolutely! Classpecting can be difficult because …well, Sburb/Sgrub isn’t real so there isn’t a 100% guaranteed way to go about it. We don’t know absolutely everything about it. It’s all rather subjective too, some people do literal years of self-introspection and some just go with what they think is cool! If you’re having fun with it, that’s what matters.

Finding your aspect can be certainly difficult, it was extremely difficult for me! Before the Extended Zodiac quiz, I would get assigned Blood and Doom very frequently. Blood didn’t really click with me although I could relate to it, and while Doom was accurate it just didn’t really feel right. I remember the first time I took the Extended Zodiac quiz, I got Hope which... I don’t relate to at all.

If you’re having difficulty with your aspect, it might be something you’re writing off immediately or not considering the full scope of. Full honesty, I didn’t consider myself a Mind player as I thought I was too stupid for it. Breaking up the aspects into core terms helps immensely with this. I entirely wrote off Mind for myself until I thought of it more as Consequences and Outcomes. That vibed a lot better instead of just thinking of it as Logic and Reasoning.

Classes have different relationships to their aspect and that helps things click into place, I think. Princes kind of hate their aspect while Thieves crave more of it! Your aspect won’t always be something you like or are comfortable with! It’s how you view the world, what is vital to you, you value most. Aspects are what drive you. For me, that is Mind. I relate to more than one aspect (Light/Blood/Doom primarily) but Mind is what feels the most prominent and ‘right’.

Keep those things in mind - Here’s the aspects broken down first!

Time – is related to the End. Time is Endings, Repetition, and Impatience. It is the Momentum that keeps you moving Forward. It is Familiarity and Finality; always getting back up and continuing to fight to Progress to their goal. Time goes to its own Rhythm, marching Forward to the End. It is Death and Destruction, focused not on the journey but the Destination. Where you End at. The Result of it all. “Time's arrow neither stands still nor reverses. It merely marches forward.”

Space – is related to the Beginning. Space is Beginnings, Destiny, and Patience. It’s enjoying moments for what they are, taking a step back and looking at the entire picture. It is related to Art, Change, and Ambiguity. They Recycle the old things to Innovate and make something and fresh. Space is about the Journey, not the destination. It is the Present, not the future. Nothing is set in stone, for Space is Grand and Broad, our Present ever-changing in the Journey.

Heart is related to the Self, who you are. Heart is the Core of Self, what make you, well, you! It is what makes you Unique and Separate. Individuality, Intuition, Motivation, Emotion, Truth, Passion, and Empathy is all part of Heart. Bias, Instinct, and tearing down Facades are connected to Heart. Heart is the very Core of your Soul. Who YOU are. As such, it is a very personal aspect, and has a focus on internal strength.

Mind is related to what you do. It is how you act, your façade, your ACTIONS independent of who you are. Nothing exists in a vacuum. Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause. Logic, Reasoning, Action, Options, Outcome, and Decision-Making are all part of Mind. It is thoughts/decisions of individuals and the consequences of those decisions. It is Blending with the crowd, Hiding who you are. Mind is concerned with remaining Logical, and so gives equal weight to the choices and probabilities before it. It is also connected with Facades, Trickery, and Deception.

Hope – is related to ideology. Hope is Belief, Harmony, and Positivity. It is unconditional love or trust, and Openness to Possibilities. It is standing for what you Believe in, what you think is Right, and your Convictions, no matter what those around you say or do. Hope is your Faith in the world and the undying Trust you put forth. It drives your Dream and Imagination for a better reality and is not averse to destruction if it will improve things. It is Harmony, Possibility, and Naïve Optimism.

Rage – is related to skepticism. Rage is Refusal, Defiance, and Rejection. Rage is putting your foot down and saying NO! It is unconditional hate or fear, underlying Doubt over the deceptively peaceful surface of something or someone. Rage is the immovable object, firmly Rejecting the lies and false ideas being fed to them. It is showing the Truth and Reality of what goes on behind the curtains, the broken system and corruption others are unaware of or deceived by. It is Despair, Skepticism, and Chaos.

Light – is related to what is meaningful. It is Information, Relevance, and Fortune. It is driven by Learning and Understanding. Light’s fierce pursuit of Knowledge can be ironically cold and calculating. Light does not care for rules or laws, merely in the Answer that lies ahead. It is Awareness and Perception, as it is gathering many sources of information to uncover and reveal the Meaning of it. It is Illuminating the Importance of what is Meaningful and calculating Probability to take advantage of Fortune and Luck. It is finding what is Relevant and Enlightening yourself. It its careful scrutinization, it Illuminates what is hidden and gives Meaning and Importance to it.

Void – is related to what is meaningless. It is Irrelevance, Indifference, and Secrets. Void is described as a blank canvas of Infinite Potential, being unafraid of the Unknown and Mysteries. It is Confusion, Doubt, and Infinite Possibilities. Void doesn’t put a lot of stock in just one idea, which makes it Confusing and Obfuscates where exactly one stands. It Blurs truth and reality, casting things in a Shroud of Mystery. It is the vast expanse of Nothing that goes on forever, Enigmatic and Unknowable.

Breath – is related to independence. It is Freedom, Flexibility, and Detachment. It is the concept of Personal Freedom, focusing on your Own interests and goals without being tied down. Breath is Fluid and Driven, Adapting to its surroundings without losing itself. It is Movement, it does its own thing but sweeps and pushes others along in its wake. It is tied to Escapism and Disconnect, focused on their own goals and interests, making this a very personal aspect.

Blood - is related to responsibilities. It is Commitment, Loyalty, and Unity. It is doing everything you can for the good of the Group, doing what needs to be done for the good of everyone, not yourself. Blood is Bonds, Connection, Promises, and Obligation. It is knowing nothing is impossible when you have the Family you’ve made for yourself by your side. It is Union, Security, and Grounded in the earth. Blood is tied to Friendship, Family, and other ways of Association like Camaraderie and Teamwork.

Life – is related to rebellion. It is Nurturing, Healing, and Growth. Life Energetically pushes forward to Grow into your own self, Powering you up and making you ever stronger. It can be a Reckless force, and is tied to Authority, Wealth, and Luxury. Life fights to continue to Grow and thrive even in the face of great adversity, Bettering themselves and those around them.

Doom – is related to acceptance. It is Negativity, Withdrawal, and Limitations. Doom adapts and knows Limits. It is knowing the risk versus the reward, when to Withdraw and show Caution. Doom is the Rules and the Restrictions that hold things together. It is Restraint, Control, Sacrifice, and knowing your Limits. Doom is not defeatism; it can be a Negative force that rejects and Harms, but it instills a sense of Empathy, Acceptance, and Wisdom.

There are more than just antithetical aspect pairs, see aspects with the same key words. Aspects cover a lot, and they can easily mix and muddle things in conjunction with each other! Aspect isn’t just picking and choosing random traits either. I’m impatient and pessimistic but that alone doesn’t make or break a Time player. Aspect is essentially the foundation of your personality, values, and beliefs. Class is your relationship and how you wield it, so finding your aspect first is (generally) easier.

Now here is a breakdown of the classes:

Heir – Naturally gravitate to their aspect or unconsciously seek it. It permeates everything in their life and comes to them naturally. Heirs are surrounded by their aspect, and though it isn’t intentional, they foster their aspect as they go. They are malleable, open to change in themselves and can heavily influence those around them. Heirs need to be careful to not lose themselves to their aspect. It can change and influence them to an extreme degree, and they need to be aware of this.

Witch – Have a complicated and intensely personal relationship with their aspect. Their lives are permeated with their aspect, its in their interests, what they bring change to, as well as an element in their environment. Witches tend to reject the expectations of how/when/why they should interact with their aspect entirely. Oppressive forces and bad influences will wear a Witch down, draining them of their passion and will. The Witch must cast these things that try to be forced upon them, and when they are no longer being held back, they own their aspect and are able to completely change it as they see fit.

Seer – Study their aspect, they have a great interest in it and seek it out. A Seer’s aspect is linked to what kind of insight and information they have an easy time understanding or what comes naturally, and not necessarily what they’re comfortable with or like. Grey areas are difficult for a Seer, as they tend to divide things into black and white thinking in their mind. The Seer will need to learn to manage their engagement with their aspect, or they’ll overwhelm themselves and others. Not every choice or situation will fit into their sense of the world, and they don’t need to dedicate their entire being to their aspect.

Mage – Have an instinctual knowledge of their aspect. They don’t need to study their aspect; the understanding comes naturally and easily to them. Due to it being their knowledge being based on personal experiences, they may be biased in how they show and act with it. The Mage is surrounded by their aspect, and they feel restricted by this. They feel caged with just the one option, while everyone else gets to have access to so much more. But due to being surrounded by it, Mages have a solid understanding of the ins and outs of their aspect! The Mage cannot let themselves get overwhelmed by their aspect, lest they spiral into fatalism, overthinking, and complacency. They need to focus on what they want but is possible to change.

Rogue – Are able to obtain their aspect easily and with almost no thought, that it must not be special or valuable to anyone but them. Their relationship with their aspect is private and intimate, it is what they find comfort in and how they find their identity. Rogues sometimes use their aspect to isolate themselves from others, and it can become bad quick if it’s done to an excessive degree. The Rogue needs to learn to moderate and understand their aspect, and most importantly, share it amongst their friends and allies. Their aspect is valuable, and it doesn’t always come as naturally to people as they think it does.

Thief – Crave their aspect, they feel like they severely lack in it. They constantly steal to add to the hoard amassed of their aspect. When they have their aspect, they are extremely confident, their aspect boosts them to high heights, that’s why they crave it. The Thief needs to learn that they can’t take all of it. They have enough, it’s ok to leave some for the others. Thieves have deeply buried self-doubt and their journeys tend to be very internal.

Page – Have a deficit of their aspect, overcompensating and thinking they’re incredibly skilled with it. Pages have a special kind of potential unlike any other class. With such great potential of power though, comes a long, difficult, and challenging journey. The Page stockpiles their aspect’s power for themselves, and they have a very hard time making direct use of it. It forces them to rely on others to improve and that makes maturing and self-improvement that much more difficult on the Page. The Page needs to accept the reality of their situation and not give up even if it’s hard. They aren’t as good with their aspect as they think and that’s fine. Patience is a virtue and is especially vital for a Page.

Knight – Utilize their aspect, they use what they have and use it well. Knights start off with little of their aspect, but because of that lack, they know how to make the most of it. They are extremely self-sufficient, using their aspect as a tool for everything. Knights seem to have a predisposition for masking their true feelings, projecting a specific kind of image, or otherwise hiding behind a façade of sorts. Knights desperately feel like they need to aid with everything, and so stretch themselves too thin. This is the crux of the Knight’s struggle. They hide behind something, they have insecurities but won’t share them ever, even with their loved ones. Knights have high expectations of responsibility and reliability that they create for themselves, but it doesn’t usually end well for them. The Knight needs to mend their isolation. It’s not bad to rely on others, it’s okay to be vulnerable, they don’t need to shoulder the burden all on their own.

Sylph – Their aspect is an integral part of their life; their aspect has shaped them into the person they are. They can have a rather complicated and frustrated with their aspect; thinking of it as underwhelming but knowing they are far more competent with it than anyone else. Sylphs tend to force themselves into a box, believing that there’s only one way for them to be useful and helpful. They think they can only do one thing when it isn’t true at all. Sylphs need to stand up and not let themselves be shoved to the side or held back.

Maid – Have an extremely close relationship to their aspect and a profound love for it. The relationship can be as beneficial as it is damaging. Maids feel like they have little control at the start of their journey, they lack a sense of self as their aspect wholly permeates them.They have little control of things and are alienated in some way from others. The Maid must fight to liberate themselves, so much is being demanded of them and its exhausting. They must gain control of the situation and fully express themselves! The Maid cannot wholly reject their aspect, that can be just as toxic and painful as being caged by it! They must not fully cast away their aspect, instead turn the tables on what is caging them, and making forcefully making it work to their advantage. They need a balance.

Bard – Contentious, they find some parts of their aspect to be deeply flawed and it can be super frustrating in general to them. Bards early in their journey spend a good portion of their journey heavily ghosting their antithetical aspect. They are lacking or being denied their aspect at first, making them ghost their antithesis. This lack or denial of their true aspect makes them uncomfortable and avoidant of it. Eventually, their ghosting will stop, whether by an identity crisis, shattering of faith, or realization of dissatisfaction. Their change and growth can be huge, and once they progress enough, will access their natural aspect. Channeling their aggravation and dissatisfaction with it to trim its excess, balancing it. Bards will have difficulty being ruled by the whims of their aspect, their journey is to look beyond its flaws and see the good in it. By doing so, they’ll possess a special and unique understanding of their aspect.

Prince – Have a hard time accepting and embracing their aspect. It’s an internal struggle, and one that goes hand in hand with their ego. Due to a tendency to destroy their aspect in themselves, they ghost their antithetical aspect (although not all Princes ghost!) They need to be careful on how they handle themselves, lest they destroy themselves or others entirely. The Prince needs to find balance. A realized and true Prince still might hold a distaste for their aspect, but they understand they can’t destroy ALL of it. Instead, they destroy only what is necessary to utilize it to its maximum efficiency.

Your classpect should be who you are at your best. What you strive for or want to be!

I was wondering what to do if you feel some kind of guilty feelings for your manifestation?

So pretty much I had to study a career that I wasn't really fond of, I wanted to study Acting but in Latin America specially in my city acting and theater is so frown upon, so I wasn't supported by my family, unfortunately I had to settle and choose this other career (this all happened before I found out about the Law and subliminals)

Anyways I'm in my 5th semester now, and I sort of created this plan that in one of these next semester I'd apply for an exchange and go to another university that is in America in order so I can get casted in yk Netflix and others💕

Anyways I'm confident in all of that, I know it's mine and creation is finished but, but in my 4th and 5th semester my grades have been awful, (when I found out about Loassumption it kinda triggered and spiritual awakening and my anxiety and I could barely get up from my bed, even less hw) but even so I managed to pass all of my classes barely tbh

I decided to revise my grades but I noticed that I started feeling some kind of guilt? Like I feel like I'm not worthy to changes my grades because I didn't do the work and as a punishment I should stay with the grades I currently have rn

Now that I'm writing this Ik how damaging and limiting it sounds but I keep feeling this way 😥

Should I focus on my self concept for the time being?

Hi! Aww I'm sorry you're feeling that way babe :(

But do remember that creation is always finished and that includes revision! Manifesting = shifting. When you revise your grades, you're just shifting to a reality where you have them. And maybe the you in that reality did put in the work! Or maybe your teachers thought your work was a lot better in that reality. Or maybe you just had less work to begin with.

Regardless, don't conflate work with worthiness! You 100% deserve that life and having a rough mental time during school doesn't mean you don't. I understand where you're coming from, but you literally don't have to lift a single finger for the life you want. That's not a bad thing. Revising better grades is the same thing as assuming you always have good grades!

I'm glad you're feeling better now and even with feeling a little guilty, I'm glad you're coming around to manifestation and have a plan for the life you want. Never feel guilty for that!! You can just as easily revise that you did do the work but even if you don't, you still deserve those grades.

Focusing on your self concept is always a good option! You don't have to of course, but I do think it would help with feeling guilty. A lot of people have felt that way about their manifestations before! Self concept would definitely help ease that feeling :)

Let’s talk about zodiacs and TPN Part 1

This is largely inspired by the fact that I talk about the characters’ zodiacs nonstop in the fanfic I’m working on for my tpn witch au, and I’ve been chortling to myself the entire time about how well some of them fit their sign and how some of them just... don’t. I’m going to simply infodump about each character, their sign, element, and some attributes they fit to a t while others don’t make sense. I will also touch on compatibility for all you shippers out there, don’t worryyy. Now this isn’t at all a critique or review of the characters themselves— I know astrology is not the first thing authors consider when choosing character birthdays, if they even do at all, this is simply me rambling about my hyperfixation and projecting onto fictional characters like we all do.

A couple last notes— one character in particular (cough cough Ray) has a different “canon” birthdate from “actual” so I’ll discuss both. Also, while I will be doing surface level research to make sure I’m not talking out of my ass, im not a professional astrologist, I’m simply a witch with an enthusiasm for zodiacs. Well then, without further ado, let’s talk about the kiddos.

Emma

Birthdate: August 22nd

Sign: Leo

Element: Fire

An overview: The funniest thing to me about Emma is that she’s literally the epitome of a Leo. Fire signs are generally very outgoing and energetic—they talk a lot and tend to be the leaders of the packs. Leos in particular are incredibly admirable and truly know their way around a conversation. If I ever wanted to get stuck in an elevator for 48 hours with no wifi or connection to the outside world and only one random stranger to talk to for the entire duration, I would pick a Leo in a heartbeat. Emma is very much the leader-type, she’s someone everyone pauses and listens to when she calls for their attention, and she always prefers to talk her way out of conflict rather than fight—but not in an underhanded manipulative way, no, Leos are very genuine with their feelings and will be upfront about their reasons for their actions.

Take this scene between Emma and Leuvis for example— this to me is about the closest to perfect of a summary of what Leos are like, and how Emma fits her sign beautifully.

She doesn’t want to fight, but she will if she has to—for the good of her friends and the good of humanity. She can stick to her ideals and yet extend a hand to the enemy anyway. This is what makes Leos such a force to be reckoned with in leadership roles.

Compatibility and ships: I know I know, this is the part you’re most excited about. I’m going to attempt to refrain from sharing my opinion on each ship itself, I will simply point out which have the highest compatibility levels. First of all, essentially all signs are most compatible with 1. Other signs of the same element and 2. Their compliment sign, their elemental opposite.

Since Emma is a fire sign, she’s generally compatible with other fire signs (Sagittarius, Aries, and of course Leo) as well as Air signs (Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra). So speaking broadly, she’s compatible of course with Norman as an Aries, as well as Ray IF he truly is an Aquarius. But if we narrow it down a little bit, I should mention that fire signs being fire signs can often clash with each other because both their energies are so high (personal experience lmao), and therefore their elemental opposite, air, are generally the way to go. Usually you’ll find on astrological charts and sites that Leos are most compatible with Geminis and Aquariuses, so Ray again if he is an Aquarius, and then we bring Violet into the picture because she’s a Gemini. (Uh, speaking as a Gemini, Leos are my favorite people to date, and I always seem to crush on them as well. I have a problem. A Leo problem.) I’m so sorry Gilemma shippers but fire and earth signs are like the worst combo, I don’t know how this happened because I love Gilemma with all my heart. The stars simply did not align for us this time

Norman

Birthdate: March 21st

Sign: Aries

Element: Fire

Overview: okay listen. I didn’t believe Norman was an Aries at first because he’s not as high energy as most fire signs, but then the more I thought about it, the more it just makes sense. The most key trait to an Aries is loyalty. They are so incredibly loyal and caring to the people they love that they often neglect themselves in the process. They can be very quick to anger if someone hurts or insults their friend, and are unafraid to start a fight or commit morally gray or even black actions in service of their loved ones. Point is you don’t mess with an Aries’ family or friends. You will get burned.

All the loyalty applies to Norman so incredibly well—the way that his plans and actions revolve entirely around Emma and Ray, and the way that he sacrifices himself for their escape even though he’s terrified of dying. But even more so this loyalty strikes you in the face when he returns as William Minerva, willing and committed to full on genocide all to keep his friends alive and safe. As I’ve said Aries are quick to anger, which seemingly isn’t very present in cool-headed, thoughtful Norman, but then you remember this:

Look at his expression. Even if he doesn’t easily lose his cool, when he does it’s terrifying. So essentially Norman is a much more subtle Aries— he’s not in your face aggressive or full of energy, but he has all the hidden signs. So yeah, I honestly can’t think of any other sign that describes him better. Norman is an Aries.

Compatibility and ships: being a fire sign and all, Norman’s compatibility is actually very similar to Emma’s. He’s compatible with other Fire signs (Sagittarius, Leo, and Aries) as well as Air signs (Libra, Aquarius, and Gemini). Speaking broadly that makes him compatible with Emma and Ray again, but narrowing it down Aries are much better in general with Libras and Leos so congrats Noremma shippers you won.

Ray

“Canon” Birthdate: January 15th

“Actual” Birthdate: February 5th

“Canon” sign: Capricorn

“Actual” sign: Aquarius

“Canon” Element: Earth

“Actual” Element: Air

Overview: alright Ray is a bit of a mixed bag to unpack. Because it’s been stated that Ray’s January 15th birthday is not his actual birthday outside of the source material, then it’s reasonable for me to count both birthdays because people have different ideas of what’s canon and what’s not. Interestingly enough though, Ray does indeed fit well enough into both the Capricorn and Aquarius signs, however I personally believe one shows through him better than the other.

We’ve been talking about fire signs for Emma and Norman so it’s finally time to dive into two other elements! We’ll start with Capricorn then, the Earth sign. The most important thing to remember is that the Earth signs are the most grounded and practical. If you want someone who can give you logical and rational advice, your best bet would be the Earth signs (Air signs are also good at this but this ain’t about them. Although you will notice some overlap in traits between these two, particularly in Capricorns and Aquariuses).

We can already see the ‘practical’ side show through in Ray by the way he hyperfocuses on taking Norman and Emma to escape but insists on leaving the other kids behind. This isn’t to say he doesn’t feel for them, on the contrary, Earth signs are indeed very in tune with their emotions and empathy, but Capricorns really know how to set that part of them aside in favor of the calm and certain route. They like tangible solutions, things they can grasp with the least amount of risk, and they’re very resistant to changes—like giant rocks. This is also noticeable in how Ray gets so very flustered by Norman and Emma��s impulsivity. He clashes with both of them because Earth signs prefer to take things slow while Fire signs just like to make a leap and hope for the best.

Note how Emma says “not that I mind...” meanwhile Ray is out here going “I MIND!!” Which we learn is because of his identity as the spy. He’s got his own plan and a tangible solution to shoot for, and Norman and his impulsivity and Emma going along with it is messing everything up. Thus, he forcibly retakes control of the situation via making a deal with Norman after the traitor is revealed. Very Capricorn stuff.

On the OTHER hand, if we’re to go off Ray’s “actual” birthdate, which was so lovingly calculated by Tempo, then we get Aquarius Ray, the Air sign. The most important things to note about the air signs is that they’re the thinkers—the farthest from impulsive, they’re the least in tune with their emotions, and they are oh so horribly indecisive. Where Earth signs will be able to give advice that adheres to both logic and emotion, Air signs stick purely to logic. Where Earth signs are able to make calm and rational decisions, Air signs will agonize over options and often find themselves lost, searching perpetually for a solution with no cracks in it. Hello. I’m an Air sign. :’))

I’m gonna come right out and say it. I hate Aquarius men. Aquarius women and enby folks, they’re great. But Aquarius men? I may, as a Gemini, get along with them in surface level casual conversation, but behind every Aquarius man’s back is a Mal waiting to strangle him the moment I am given the opportunity. I’m so sorry Ray my son but you are not an Aquarius okay. Alright. Well, let’s just talk about the parts of him that do fit Aquarius.

So from the very start Ray is obviously a thinker, someone who considers his options very carefully before he makes a decision, and someone who hates making choices based solely on emotion. In fact, he hates expressing emotions at all. Aquariuses are very good at repressing or hiding their emotions behind other emotions (most air signs are). The most common way to do this is to put up a wall of either numbness or full-on rage. We can see both in Ray.

Instead of showing vulnerability in a healthy way, he would rather do that. Ok cool Ray.

Aquariuses can also be very quiet people, and Ray’s pretty dang quiet for most of the series too. They’re the intellectuals you know are intellectuals even though they aren’t up in your face about it. Their reserved nature makes them 10x scarier when they’re genuinely angry, because boy can an Aquarius rage.

The thing about Aquarius Ray for me here is that while Ray does indeed have Aquarius energy, it’s not the Core of Ray. To me he’s so much more of an Earth sign, so therefore I diagnose Ray with Capricorn.

Compatibility and ships: ok this is a mixed bag again. Now if you got Aquarius Ray then of course he’s compatible with other Air signs (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius) and Fire signs (Leo, Aries, and Sagittarius), which would make him compatible with Norman and Emma for sure, as well as probably Ayshe for you Rayshe shippers because my personal HC is Aquarius Ayshe.

If you’ve got Capricorn Ray, then Capricorns are compatible with other earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) and their compliment water signs (Cancer, Pisces, and Scorpio), though they’re best with Cancers and Tauruses. So yes, Anna is a Taurus, which makes Rayanna a compatible pair. But guess who’s a Cancer. Don. ALL MY RAYDON SHIPPERS GET OUT HERE YOU COWARDS IM CALLING YOUR NAME. YOU WIN THE SHIP GAME.

Gilda

Birthdate: May 13th

Sign: Taurus

Element: Earth

Overview: So again with the practical and grounded Earth signs. Tauruses now, are the most stubborn of them, which can be a little irritating at times, but it’s also a great asset when you consider how reliable they truly are. They’re bulls, which makes them solid and difficult to move, and you can always fall back on them when you’ve leapt too far ahead. Gilda is of course the epitome of reliable, and her stubbornness does show through at times—like when she’s the one person against Emma going out into danger all the time, constantly trying to talk her down into a more practical and certain solution. She’s also the first to attempt to bring Emma to see Ray’s side of the escape plan, which is very earth sign of both of them good job guys.

Compatibility and ships: I know I know I’m still upset Gilemma isn’t compatible astrologically but we can talk about other Gilda ships! Tauruses are most compatible with other earth signs (Capricorn, Virgo, and Taurus) and water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces) which makes her compatible with our other lovely Taurus, Anna! Gilanna shippers unite. But they’re best with Cancers and Scorpios, which means Gildon is is at highest compatibility.

Don

Birthdate: July 4th

Sign: Cancer

Element: Water

Overview: HEY YALL ITS TIME TO TALK ABOUT MY LEAST FAVORITE SIGNS: W A T E R. (I’m sorry my water friends, I’m sure you’re lovely, but as an air sign I am always extremely suspicious of water signs at first meeting because our compatibility is so low it might as well not exist) So the water signs are at the absolute highest emotional level. This can make them extraordinarily kind and nurturing, but it can also make them absolutely unreasonable and destructive. None is this more present than in Cancers, one of the most sensitive signs, but also one of the most empathetic. We can tell very clearly in Don that he wears his emotions on his sleeve—he’s unafraid to cry or show his anger, but he also takes very good care of his younger siblings and shows such an intense concern for them that it can become frightening.

Compatibility and ships: okay so same drill, Cancers are generally compatible with other Water signs (Scorpio, Pisces, and Cancer) as well as Earth signs (Taurus, Capricorn, and Virgo) though their highest compatibility is with Tauruses and Capricorns. So again. GILDON AND RAYDON SHIPPERS R I S E.

Job Search Shenanigans

Sooooo I have a phone call with a recruiter from option B hospital in an hour!!! I’m going to start being a wee bit more private on here in terms of names and such.. but I’m feeling a bit more confident with this place as opposed to the other..

But just a little recap. Hospital A- I’m baffled, as is my therapist. They’re supposedly always hiring and one the best hospitals in the country and yet this process has been so unorganized and is taking forever and I’m still stuck in the same step as I have been for weeks.

I first applied to 4 different units/residences on Monday March 21st. A couple days later I got an email from the “Talent Acquisition” person and we set up a time for the next day and we first spoke on the phone on Friday March 25th. She mentioned that she saw a couple different applications and I said that I actually just saw a new one post yesterday that I’d prefer. We’ll call this Unit A. So she told me about the position, the pay, that it’s entry level and my lack of experience was totally fine! She said training starts end of April/early May. I just had to apply to this new position and then she would push my application through to the unit and the person in charge of hiring would reach out to me to have a more formal zoom call.

That was Friday so the following Monday morning I applied to Unit A (which is super simple once you’ve applied once it just copies and pastes all your information for future applications) and emailed her telling her. She replied back right away saying she’d push it through to that unit!

A week later on Tuesday April 5th I emailed her “I was just wondering if I should have heard from someone by now? If I haven’t heard anything does that mean that whoever viewed my application didn’t think I was a good candidate? Do people often interview with different units? Should I go that route?” and never heard from her.

So another week later on Tuesday April 12th I called her. I said something along the lines of “I’m sorry to be a pest but I just never heard from anyone and I’m trying to decide between a couple different jobs and this hospital is my first choice”. She said I wasn’t a pest at all and she sounded very sincere and nice. She said she was sorry but Unit A applications were now closed and she apologized that no one reached out to let me know. I told her that was fine and that I applied to a new listing last week Unit B. She said she didn’t see that application in my file so I was like “okay I’ll double check”... (I’m actually just now remembering that I asked her if I didn’t hear back from anyone could I give her a call back and she said absolutely... So I’m going to call her this afternoon..)

By Friday, still nothing... I double checked all my application submissions and sure enough it showed Unit B there and oddly it says that Unit A is “Active (Accepting Job Submissions)” even though she said that specific one is closed and that Unit B is now “Inactive (No Longer Accepting Job Submissions)”... like what the fuck? I played dumb about knowing that Unit B is now inactive and emailed her...

“.... we talked on the phone on Tuesday. I just want to make sure my application for Unit B is in? On the phone you said you didn’t see it. A couple weeks ago when we first spoke you mentioned the next training session starting end of April/early May and I was just curious if you have a start date of that training and if you think it’s possible I might hear back from a unit before then in order to start the training. If all goes well and I’m offered a position I’m just trying to see timing wise when I would be able to give my 2 weeks to my current job.”

Well I got back an instant reply.... but it was automated cause she was out of the office and would return back the following Tuesday...

Well it’s now Thursday and I. Still. Haven’t. Heard. From. Her.????

Sooooooo today I’ll talk to Hospital B and then give Hospital A a phone call... I’m curious to find out about Hospital B, what the training it like, pay is like, when I can start, etc. I know a little bit more about Hospital A cause my sister works on one of the units so with this other hospital I’m sort of in the dark with the ins and outs. I was asking my therapist about this hospital and she said she’s heard really good things but some of the reviews for the position online seem scary. People talking about burn out, lack of staff, etc. Which to be honest I think also happens at Hospital A (and a lot of hospitals) but it’s still my first choice.

Okay if you’ve made it this far kudos to you and I’ll post an update later.....

Teachers Pet- chapter 4: introductions

I woke up to the Grandfather clock in Dumbledore's office chiming, if I counted correctly, 6 o'clock. The sunlight beaming in through the small circle cleared on the window. Although I was still dreading this day I figured I'd want to be ready and awake when it was time to begin my very first day at Hogwarts. I laid on my back looking up at the ceiling getting lost in thought for a moment thinking of all the things that could go horribly wrong.

Eventually I lifted the covers off myself and swung my legs out of the bed stepping on the cold stone flooring. I yawned, stretching my arms up and cracking my neck and back. I got up and went to my luggage. I paused for a moment wondering what I should wear since I didn't have a uniform yet. I looked over what I had and contemplated my choices. I wanted to try to look the part and not stand out too much. I grabbed my black boots and a simple dark green turtleneck sweater I had that used to be my grandpas that I snagged from my dad's closet since he never wore it. I looked over my bottom options trying to remember what the students were wearing. I remembered seeing some in skirts and some in pants. I just decided on some simple black leggings and figured I would have my coat on anyways so it didn't matter a whole lot and once I got my uniforms I would change into them as soon as possible. Probably as soon as I purchased them in the nearest restroom. I took my clothes in the bathroom and went pee and got dressed. I then brushed my teeth and splashed my face with some cold water.

As I exited the bathroom I stopped and grabbed my hairbrush and some makeup from my bag, I didn't wanna look too rough on the first day. Thinking of that made me think of all the new people. There are a ton of students here, girls and boys. What if they make fun of me for not being in a uniform. No, no they wouldn't, Albus wouldn't run a school that bullied people. And if they do that fine ill just hit them with a hex or something. I can defend myself just fine. I always did at Beauxbaton's. I remember my first year there were some girls that messed with me for having a hole in my tights since I knew my mom couldn't afford to buy me new ones after she explicitly told me to not rip them. And they would continue to tease me for other things, anything. But one day in my second year I got tired of it and turned all of their hair green. Of course they screamed and freaked out and I got in trouble, but I didn't care because no one messed with me after that. There was still the occasional comment or unsolicited opinions but I like to think I'm pretty smart and quick witted so I usually always had a response to them.

I grabbed the brush and brushed my h/c hair and pulled some from each side back into a small clip. I grabbed my makeup bag and applied some concealer here and there, brushed my brows out, and curled and applied mascara to my lashes. I contemplated some light eyeliner but I didn't wanna risk messing it up and running late, I hadn't done any in awhile and probably fell out of practice. I figured this was decent enough and put on some simple pearl earrings and a silver necklace that had a small sun and moon charm. It was a gift from my sister years ago and I would wear it almost everyday. She said it reminded her of us, the sun and moon, she liked to think she was the sun and I was the moon but I said I didn't revolve around her, but she was older so it made sense she was the sun. I took one last look in the mirror, some of my shorter hairs falling from the clip and I tucked them away from my face. I didn't really like stuff in my face. I contemplated putting on my glasses or my contacts. I figured the last thing I needed was to look like a nerd so I put my contacts in and exited the bathroom. Just as I was packing up my things I heard Dumbledore knock on my door. "Come in," I answered. He opened the door and smiled at me. "Well you're up and at em" he snickered. I smiled at him as I applied chapstick and sprayed on some perfume. It smelt like roses and an old lady. But I still liked the smell. It was like my signature scent. "Are you ready for your first day here at Hogwarts my dear?" Dumbledore asked cheerfully. "A little nervous, but mostly ready" I sighed. "Ok well to give an overlay of your day, you can leave all your belongings here and I will have one of the house elves bring it over to your dormitory when you get sorted. And then I have arranged a student to show you around and then travel with you to Hogsmeade to get your uniforms and stationary items once you are given your schedule. It should only take but half the day, at least up until lunch and then from there you can go to the remaining classes of the day." he said with a witty smile standing in the doorway with his hands together. "Wow sounds like a plan!" I said nervously. Realizing this was actually happening there was no stopping it, and I would have my first day at Hogwarts starting in the next thirty minutes. I looked over to the clock and it read 6:30. "Oh and breakfast is from 6:30-8:30am so we should probably head to the Great hall now so we can get you sorted and seated in time" he added. I felt a nervous tingle spread in my chest at the thought of being sorted again in front of different people, having no idea how their sorting ceremonies went. I was gonna ask but I didn't wanna look stupid so I went with it. "Wonderful I'm all ready to go." I smiled putting my coat on, tucking my wand in my boot and grabbing my bag from the post and throwing it over my shoulder.

He headed out towards his office and I silently followed behind all the way down those odd stairs again and down the hallway. After what seemed like quite some time we approached large doors that were open, which I assumed was the so-called great hall, and kids were shuffling in and taking their seats. Some saying small good mornings to Dumbledore. He went into the great hall and I followed directly behind him, my heart suddenly beginning to beat faster. What looked to be most of the school had already arrived to their seats and conversed amongst each other. Some I could tell were obviously first years by their innocent faces, and others I could tell had seen some shit and were at least 5th years. I took deep breaths as I followed him up some stairs to where the teachers sat, where I presumed, to eat. I looked over at some of them and back to Dumbledore. He walked me over to the table to do some quick introductions. "Good Morning everyone this is my Goddaughter y/n that I told you all about" Dumbledore said to them they all smiled and said small hellos to me. "This Professor Lockhart teaches Defense against the dark arts" he said as I looked at the very interesting man. He was smiling largely up at me, almost to largely, it was kind of creepy. "Hello" I said softly. He then took my hand and shook it and then brought it to his mouth to kiss it. I tugged it away quickly after he did so and he said "Good morning y/n! It is so wonderful to meet your acquaintance, I can not wait to have you in my class! I have heard so many things about you and you are much more grown than Dumbledore had described." I looked at him and just gave a soft smile not really knowing how to respond to that. I lightly and discreetly pushed Dumbledore's side to encourage him to keep moving so I didn't have to retain eye contact with this Lockhart fellow. "And this is Hagrid as you met yesterday" "Good Morning Hagrid it's good to see you again." I smiled at him "Pleasures all mine, I teach care of magical creatures" he boomed. "Oh nice" I said as we kept going with our introductions. "This is Professor McGonagall she teaches Transfiguration" She gave a simple nod to which I returned. "And this is Professor Flitwick he teaches charms" I smiled and nodded at the small man with a thick mustache. "Oh and It appears Professor Snape has not joined us yet, but he teaches potions, and this is Madam Pomfrey the matron here at Hogwarts, and last but not least Professor Trelawney who is the Divination teacher" he said I smiled at the kind looking woman who had rather large hair and glasses. She looked like a lot of fun.

"Ok now that all the introductions have been made, it's already," he stopped to look at his watch " 7 o'clock I would say this would be a good time to get the show on the road" he said smiling down at me. I laughed nervously and realized no one had paid any attention to me yet, but that was about to change. Don't get me wrong sometimes I love to be the center of attention, but not in strange and new places. He stepped past me and up to his podium, I stood kind of behind him and waited to see what was next. He cleared his throat and began. "Good Morning students, I hope you have all had a good weekend, before we get breakfast started I have an announcement to make, or rather an introduction. We have a new student joining us today, she has transferred from Beauxbatons. And let me add she is my Goddaughter and I am very pleased to have her here with us at Hogwarts." he looked over at me and nudged his head for me to come up next to him, I did so and looked over the full room of students, making sure to not make eye contact with them. Some were still having quiet conversations but halted when I stepped up, and turned their attention to me. "This is y/n, she is in her 6th year and has not been sorted yet but we will do that in just a minute." I smiled a small smile at the students or should I say my new classmates overlooking the rows upon rows of them "I have high hopes that you will treat her with respect and make her feel welcome!" he spoke loudly. Some of the more obnoxious students yelling "hellos" from their tables. "Now come sit and we will sort you into your house" he said as I followed him around the podium and to a chair in front of it.

Unbeknownst to me Professor Snape walked in out of my view, as I was focused on the students that I was displayed in front of and took his seat behind me. I sat nervously watching as Dumbledore walked over and grabbed an old dusty faded brown witch hat and carried it over to me, he is putting this thing on my head? I sat still and upright as he gently placed it atop my head. All of the sudden the thing began to speak, startling me a bit. "Hmmm very interesting," it said and I sat patiently wondering what that was supposed to mean. "Tough one, compassionate but stubborn" I rolled my eyes at that comment, even an old hat could tell I was hard headed? "Smart but will do anything to be proven right" how dare he expose me like this, I was beginning to think this was some trick to humiliate me, a few of the students snickered at that and I shot them cold looks. "No doubt, clear to see...SLYTHERIN!" The hat yelled and an uproar of cheers came from the table on the far right, I didn't know if this was a good or bad thing but based on the looks of some of the students and Professors faces it was probably not the most popular.
