Sirius Black was not used to affection.
It was foreign to him. He never received praise, compliments, or anything positive. Ever.
So when the acquaintances he’d made on the hogwart’s express clapped him on the back after getting into Gryffindor, he didn’t know how to react other than to flinch.
And when you, introduced as James’s honorary sister, sat down that night, you’d complimented his hair.
You’d said “I like your long hair. It suits you.”
His parents hated that hairstyle.
He’d kept it purely as an act of rebellion. However, now, now he seemed to like it just a bit more. He hadn’t said thank you. Because he hadn’t known he was supposed to. So he’d just nodded, and you’d grinned.
That grin changed everything. You changed everything.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“What if we make polyjuice potion, and I disguise myself as Narcissa, lead Lucius on for a bit and then prank him?” you asked, playing with the quill in your hands.
Remus groaned, “We’re still on this?” he asked, throwing his head back in disbelief.
“N/n, Remmy is right, we pranked Lucius only the day before yesterday,” Sirius nodded. You raised an eyebrow at him knowing he was never one to back down from a prank on any Slytherin.
And you were right. He wanted to do it. But if that meant Lucius got a chance to be near you even in a slightly romantic way, he would hurl.
And possibly punch him.
“Oh c’monnn Siri,” you whined, putting on your best pleading face and puppy eyes.
Damn those puppy eyes.
Sirius just shook his head, ignoring the way his heart was racing at your look. He watched as you pouted, leaning back on to the couch, head resting on James’s shoulder. “James, help me out here,” you said, folding your arms as you waited expectantly.
But James was too busy staring at a certain redhead and you, still staring at Sirius, nudged James in the chest.
“Huh? What?”
Sirius burst out laughing at the way your face twisted in pure irritation, the other two boys joining in as you hit James repeatedly with a pillow.
“Ow ow! I’m sorry, I'm sorry!” James laughed as you continued your assault fighting the grin that was creeping up on your face.
“Fuck you Potter!” you laughed, as James tried to correct his hair, you stopping him and messing it up further.
Sirius watched the exchange between you both, a sick feeling crawling up his chest. He knew that you both were no more than honorary siblings and it would always be that way, but deep down he wished you were sitting next to him, doing all that silly stuff with him.
He immediately brushed it off, not one to allow feelings to linger for long, replacing his hardened stare with a smirk instead, watching you and James continue to fight like kids, admiring the bright smile on your face.
He wished that that smile would never go away.
“Black, if you could be any animal in the world which was not a dog, which by the way I still don’t understand why that’s your favorite animal, which would you choose?” you asked, mindlessly hooking your hand with his as you both walked to class in 4th year.
He ignored the burst of feelings that erupted in him, trying to focus on your question and not on the way your hand felt against his, clinging on as you pranced lightly. “Uhh, I don’t know” he muttered, his brain fogging up as he refrained himself from staring at your linked hands. You hummed, breaking away from him as James and Remus came into view outside the class.
He paused for a few seconds trying to calm down his erratic heart before shaking his head and entering the class.
You waved him down, patting the seat next you, and the second he sat down, you grabbed his arm, sticking your tongue out at a slytherin girl eyeing you both with pure jealousy written all over her face.
Sirius laughed, “What’s that all about?”
“She likes you,” you pouted, “and asked me, ME to set you both up!” you pointed to yourself in disbelief.
“She looks cute,” Sirius said, winking at the girl.
You gasped at the way the girl blushed in response. “She’s a slytherin!” you exclaimed, swatting his shoulder.
Sirius shrugged, “Good point, guess I’ll have to find someone else then.”
“No way! You’re mine” you said seriously, jabbing a finger at his chest.
His heart erupted, eyes widening. But he played it off quickly, leaning over to whisper in your ear. “You wish sweetheart.”
Your face turned pink, eyes widening. Luckily the professor walked in, not allowing Sirius to dwell on your reaction.
Merlin, he was done for.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You were always a naturally happy person. The boys had never seen you cry, even though they’d all had their breakdown moments. You’d been their rock through everything.
However, when 5th year started, you’d changed. You opted out of pranks, studying almost all the time and the usual spark in your eyes had faded. James seemed to know what had happened but he refused to let the others know, telling them it was up to you to reveal it to them.
He was worried about you, Sirius could tell, and that made the long-haired boy worry even more.
He’d tried to get you to talk to him, but you’d refused.
Until one day you’d shown up to Charms, puffy-eyed and asked Sirius to meet you in the Astronomy tower after his classes were done for the day.
He’d waited anxiously, and as soon as his classes finished, he ran to find you.
You were standing right where you’d said you’d be, gazing up at the sky. You turned when you saw him, a small smile forming on your lips. But the boy noticed the way it seemed to require so much effort from you, which was never the case before.
You turned away again, wordlessly staring at the sky. He wanted to demand an explanation, no longer able to watch you like this.
“Y/N-”
“I’ve never stopped to think,” you started softly, still staring above. Sirius stepped closer to you, waiting patiently for you to continue.
You took a deep breath before turning to face him.
“I’ve never let myself stop doing things or take a break because then all the thoughts flood the gates and I feel like I’m going to drown. But-” your eyes glazed over as you took a shuddering breath, looking down at your feet.
Sirius grabbed your shaking hands with one of his own, using the other to lift your chin up so that you could look at him.
“I’m listening,” he whispered.
You bit down on your lip before starting again, “But this summer was bad Siri- they- they said the worst things and-” you couldn’t finish as a sob wracked through your body.
Sirius pulled you to him, wrapping an arm around your shoulders and another lightly around your head as if trying to shield you.
He knew about the situation with your parents. They were almost never at home, and whenever they were, they made it very clear that they hadn’t wanted children in the first place. That’s why you spent most of your time at the Potter’s.
It’s also why you understood his situation so well.
You pulled away, wiping your tears away as you looked at Sirius. “Euphemia says she won’t let me go back this time even if they ask,” you laughed slightly remembering the possessiveness that had come over the older Potter.
Sirius smiled, “Good.”
“Thanks Siri,” you nodded, and Sirius beamed at the real smile that made its way to your face.
“Anytime princess. But don’t get too comfortable, other girls will get jealous.”
You gasped, playfully punching him on his shoulder, “I better be your one and only Black!” you laughed, and he joined in, hiding the way that sentence struck his heart.
Little did you know.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Sirius found himself knocking on the door of the Potter’s house, he didn’t expect for you to open it.
Shit. He’d forgotten you stayed there now.
But he couldn’t back away. He didn’t have the energy, nor did he think you would let him, at the way you gasped in horror as you looked at him.
He mustered all his strength into a cheeky “Hi” before James appeared behind you, giving the same reaction you had seconds before. You stood there in shock, hands over your mouth and eyes watering at the sight of the boy in front of you.
Sirius gave up on trying to fake it, giving in as you and James pulled him inside the house.
“James, get your mom,” you ordered. The boy hesitated as you guided Sirius to the sofa, before you turned and glared at him and he ran off.
Your eyes scanned the boy, a sort of resolve taking you over as you kneeled down in front of him. Sirius was fighting to keep consciousness and he didn’t know how much longer he could hold it for.
“Sirius,” you called gently, placing a hand on his knee, slowly and carefully. “What happened?” you asked.
Sirius didn’t want to relive what his mother had done to him, trying desperately to push it all away, trying to drown himself in your presence. But he knew you’d need an explanation if you were to help him get rid of the immense pain he was feeling right now.
“Cruciatus,” he whispered, noticing the horror and anger that made its way to your face, but also noticing the way the gentleness of your touch hadn’t changed.
“Can’t go back. Ever.” he muttered, and you were quick to adjust yourself so that he could look you in the eyes. “You won’t ever be going back. Even if Euphemia can’t keep us all here, you and I will find another place. But Black,” you placed a careful hand on his cheek and he leaned into it, “You are never. Ever. Going back there.” The seriousness in your voice gave Sirius enough strength to whisper a “Thank you” before partially fading out of consciousness again, comforted by the fact that you were here, and for once in his life feeling that things would be okay.
He could vaguely make out Euphemia and Fleamont’s reaction to seeing him nearly passed out on the couch, and your hurried explanation of whatever you’d understood from what he’d said. Euphemia walked up to him moments later with a some medicine in hand, something about opening his mouth, gulping, and about helping him sleep and doctors and the next day at sunrise. He couldn’t process it, just doing what he was told.
James and you then carefully lifted him, carrying him to a room and gently placing him on a bed.
He could hear you and James both talking in hushed whispers, but he was unable to make out what you were saying, as he fell into a disturbed sleep.
He woke up in the middle of night once, sweating and terrified, haunted by what he’d seen in his nightmare. But before he could properly react and realize where he was, you got up from beside him.
He couldn’t breathe, and tears were streaming down his face. He could see you move to sit in front of him and your lips moving but he couldn’t make out what you were saying.
You then gently placed your hands on his face and surprisingly it helped.
It grounded him, reminded him that he was with you and not with his monstrous parents.
Your voice started to fade back in and he could hear you telling him to breathe, and so he did, thankful that you were there to help him.
Of all the Marauders, he felt the safest with you.
“I’m okay,” he whispered once his breathing was back in his control. You nodded, sighing softly.
“Thank you,” he muttered, looking up at your tired eyes, “and I’m sorry I woke you up.”
“It’s fine,” you shrugged, “I hadn't slept. I was too worried.” You said, moving to sit against the headboard of the bed.
“Sorry for that then,” Sirius said lying back down.
You stared at him for a few minutes before running a hand through his hair, massaging his scalp softly.
“It’s not your fault Sirius, don’t apologize.”
Sirius didn’t respond, trying to focus on you, and on where he was, rather than the memories that were flooding his brain.
You laid down next to him, and Sirius realized that he was infact in your room, and as he turned to apologize once again, you placed a finger on his lips.
“If you apologize for intruding or something like that again, I will make you sleep on the couch.” you threatened your voice laced with humor.
Sirius smiled at you slightly, and you pulled him close to you, allowing him to tuck his face under your chin as you wrapped your hands and legs around him. He was glad you did so, it made him feel safe, and as if you’d heard his thoughts, you whispered into his ear “You’re safe with me Black. You’re mine, and I’ll keep you safe”
He wished he really was yours.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sirius couldn’t find you anywhere. And what worried him more was that he couldn’t find Frank anywhere either.
Why did that matter?
Well as you and Sirius had gotten closer and flirtier, you and Frank had gotten closer too. After the fiasco that took place over the summer, you’d spent more time with the boys in their dorm room and naturally that meant you were hanging out with their roommate Frank Longbottom as well.
And now Sirius was worried that you’d thought his flirting was just him being Sirius and that he had no actual feelings for you.
If you really did think that and if you’d decided to hang out with Frank instead, Sirius had no idea what he would do.
He’d searched every nook and corner of Hogwarts and now the only other place he could think of was Hogsmeade.
Oh Merlin he hoped it wasn’t Hogsmeade.
Sirius snuck out of the school during study hours, making his way to Hogsmeade, anxiety filling him.
As he made his way through hogsmeade, his heart dropped when he saw your familiar figure next to Frank’s.
Your head was thrown back in laughter, and Frank was grinning. “You did great! I’m sure next time will be just as smooth,” you said, patting him on the shoulder.
Next time?
Fear creeped up on Sirius.
He couldn’t lose you to Frank.
He couldn’t lose you to anyone.
He ran up to you and Frank, seeing both of your faces twist in confusion.
“Sirius?”
“You can’t date him!” Sirius exclaimed, pointing to Frank.
“What?” you and Frank both said at once, before realization crossed your features and a small smile formed on your lips.
But Sirius was too anxious and worried to register it, only glaring at Frank.
“Frank, what about you go back, and I’ll figure out what Sirius wants,” Frank nodded at your suggestion and walked off, patting Sirius on the back once.
“Why can’t I date Frank?” you asked, looking at Sirius who was still glaring at the boy who’d just walked away.
He spun around to look at you, surprise all over his face. Anyone could see you struggling to hide your smile and maintain a serious expression on your face, but Sirius was blinded.
“Because- ‘Cause-” Sirius faltered, what he was about to do, dawning on him. He hadn’t wanted to confess to you like this.
“Because?” you asked, raising an eyebrow and crossing your arms in front of your chest.
“Because I like you,” he rushed out, scared he would think twice and miss this chance. And the slight tinge of pink in your cheeks gave him confidence.
“Actually no, I don’t like you, I love you. I’m head over heels for you and I cannot imagine not being with you, at all. I want - no need you to be mine”
You grinned, “Black finally confesses! And you really think I would have gone out with Frank when I have feelings for you? He wanted me to help him get ready for the actual date he’s taking Alice on, since she’s my close friend.”
Sirius heard nothing except - “You have feelings for me?”
You laughed, linking your hand with his, “I thought it was obvious!”
He turned you around, looking at you, “You really like me?”
You shook your head, laughing lightly, before leaning up to place your lips against his.
His hand moved to your waist, pulling you in, as your hands wrapped around his neck, fingers entangling in his hair.
You both pulled away a few moments later, gasping for air.
“I’ve been yours since the first day I saw you,” you whispered, eyes locked on his.
“I love you,” he whispered.
“I love you too. But I think I love your hair more.”

Dear Prudence
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play? Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day The sun is up, the sky is blue It's beautiful and so are you
Tumblr media
The first thing Remus noticed, were the letters.
“Hey, sunshine” Remus smiled when he spotted you as he entered the Great Hall.
“Hi moonshine” you smiled back at him.
“You know that’s not what you think it is, right?”
“Yes, it is. I am the sun and you are the moon” you insisted as he rolled his eyes a little.
“Whatever you say, love” he chuckled as the two of you reached the other three Marauders sitting at the Gryffindor table.
“Hey Jamie, I think our envelopes got mixed up” you said, walking over to your brother.
“Hey, bug” he smiled at you. “How do you know?” he asked, grabbing the envelope in front of him. “This one says my name” he said, confused as Remus sat down next to your brother.
“Yeah, this one also says James. F. Potter” you said, showing it to him. “But it feels a lot more pages than mine and it has those golden star stickers mum always puts on yours, Goldie” you smirked, mocking him and switching the letters.
“Oh, Goldie! I love that, I am calling you that from now on!” Sirius laughed.
“Shut up, Padfoot!” James said, hitting his arm as you opened the letter James had and saw your name inside.
“Yep, this one’s mine” you told him, taking out the single page.
“Would you like to sit down with us?” Remus offered, smiling brightly at you. So, of course, you couldn’t refuse.
“Why thank you, Remus, that is very kind of you” you said sitting between him and James, hitting your brother’s arm in the process.
“Hey! What did I do?” he asked, with his mouth half-full.
“That’s where you got that from?” Sirius asked, glaring at you a little as James opened his envelope and Remus caught at least four pages coming out of it. He didn’t want to obviously point that out, so he asked something different instead.
“How come both envelopes were addressed to James?” he asked, making you look up at him and you answered before James could.
“Mum writes to him so much, she made the envelopes, especially for him” you smirked, pinching his cheek and your brother quickly snapped your hand away.
“That’s not true!” he argued, with a hint of blush on his cheeks.
“Isn’t it? She writes to you at least twice a week” you mocked him. “I bet nobody else in the entire school comes close to how many letters you get” you told him.
“She writes to you too!”
“Yeah, every other week” you said, rolling your eyes and going back to your letter. “And even then she always asks about you” you said, showing it to him.
“That’s not true!”
“Wanna bet?”
“Fine! Five Galleons” James smirked proudly. You quickly went back to your letter, quickly spotting James’ name.
“Ah-ha! Here we are” you smirked back at him. “‘Make sure to take care of Jamie and give him a big kiss and hug for me’” you said, pointing the sentence at the bottom of your letter as James blushed furiously. “Aw, c’mere, Jamie, gimmie a kiss” you said, throwing your arms around his shoulders and peppering his cheek with kisses while the other three Marauders laughed.
“Ugh, get off me, you annoying bug!” he said pushing you away and making you crash into Remus, who quickly wrapped his arms around your waist so you wouldn’t fall.
“S-sorry, Rem” you said, feeling your cheeks burn as he helped you up.
“No problem, love” he smiled. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah” you chuckled.
“Well, you two are simply the sweetest thing in the world” you heard Sirius from across the table.
“Shut up, Sirius!”
“Shut up, Padfoot!”
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
The second thing Remus noticed, were the family dinners.
During Christmas break, it was not surprising at all that the entire group of Marauders were residing at the Potters’ house. This year, Mrs. Potter had even got each of them a stocking, which he later found out had been your request, and Remus felt happier than he had in years. Since his mum passed away, he and his father never really liked celebrating Christmas anymore, so the feeling of this home made him warm inside and he loved it. And he especially loved spending more time with you, even if you were locked in your room most of the time.
“James, darling, where is your sister? Dinner is almost ready” he looked up from his book when Mrs. Potter came into the living room.
“Probably locked in her room” James shrugged.
“Well, could you go get her, please love?”
“Just a second, mum, I’m about to beat Padfoot” James smirked as they played Chess.
“I can go” Remus offered, marking the page on his book and getting up.
“Thank you so much, Remus. It is lovely to have actual help around here” she said, before messing James’ hair as he complained to his mother.
Remus chuckled and went upstairs to your room. He had realized this was probably the only room in your entire house he had never seen, aside from your parents’ room. He suddenly found himself feeling extremely curious to see how your room was. And why you insisted on spending so much time on it. He gently knocked on your door but he didn’t receive any response. It didn’t come as a surprise since he could hear the music blasting from the other side. He smiled when he recognized the song. It had become kind of your thing. He knew you loved muggle music and he loved introducing you to it.
Wouldn't it be nice if we were older? Then we wouldn't have to wait so long And wouldn't it be nice to live together? In the kind of world where we belong?
His smile grew wider when he heard your voice on top of the original song and he tried to knock harder but still, no response. So, he carefully opened the door. Whatever Remus had in mind about your room (which he may or may not think about more than he would like to admit) he never pictured this. Your room was as big as James’ if not a bit bigger, but you had a lot more windows and a lot more colors, by far. James’ room was decorated with Gryffindor colors and Quidditch teams he loved. But yours? Yours had paintings everywhere. Every wall. Top to bottom. Even some parts of your ceiling. How did you ever get to paint that high? He may never know. You were currently painting the side of your window with colorful flowers. Peonies. Your favorite.
You know it's gonna make it that much better When we can say goodnight and stay together
Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up In the morning when the day is new? And after having spent the day together Hold each other close the whole night through
“Um, sunshine?”
“Remus° you turned to him, smiling brightly. Remus had never seen you so beautiful. You had possibly every single color in your pallet all over your face, your clothes, and your hands. “Sorry, I didn’t hear you” you said, walking over to your record player and making the song stop.
“Yeah, I figured as much” he chuckled. “What are you doing?”
“Oh, I get really bored of my walls every now and then, and I start all over again” you explained. “I was in a very flowery mood” you said, pointing at your latest painting.
“That’s beautiful” he told you. “Did you paint all of the rooms in your house?”
“Yes, except Jamie’s” you explained. “He said I’m just going to ruin his Quidditch posters” you said, rolling your eyes. “But I did the guest rooms” you said, smiling. “Yours was inspired by ‘The Little Prince’” you informed him.
“I could tell” he smiled. “My favorite book when I was a kid” he added.
“I remember you telling me that” you smiled back.
“Do you know that program on our last year for magical paintings? You should really apply for next year” he suggested.
“You really think so?” you smiled and he nodded. “I have… actually been thinking about it” you informed him.
“You should” he smiled.
“I might” you smirked.
“Um, your mum says dinner’s almost ready” he informed you.
“Oh, really? I must have lost track of time” you said, walking into your room to wash your hands.
“I’m glad you liked your Christmas present” he said, shyly, looking at the Beach Boys’ record that was playing not long ago.
“I love it” you said, coming back out. “Did you like yours?”
“I’m halfway done” he said, remembering the book he was just reading downstairs.
“Already?”
“I can’t put it down” he smiled as you got closer to him.
“I’m glad you liked it” you smiled, making him chuckle when he saw you still had paint on your face.
“Um, you still have some-” he said, pointing at his left cheek. “Here” he said, grabbing the towel from your hand and carefully cleaning it up.
“Thanks, moonshine” you smiled.
“Hey, Mrs. Potter said-” Sirius came bursting into your room, smirking at the scene in front of him. “Am I interrupting something?” he asked, as the two of you jumped apart. You saw Remus’ cheeks blushing and you felt yours burning a little.
“N-no-”
“We were just- um- on our way” Remus quickly said, before he left the room. You nodded, grabbing one of your books, and were about to follow him, but Sirius blocked your way.
“You know, you should just tell him already, Bambi” he said. “We both know he’s too shy to make the first move, plus he thinks your brother is gonna kill him” he said.
“Mhm, or maybe, he just doesn’t feel the same way about me” you insisted. “And you promised you wouldn’t say anything!” you glared at him.
“I haven’t!” he said, offended. “And you have to be joking, right, have you really not seen the way he looks at you with his goofy smile, sunshine” he said, mocking Remus’ voice and making you punch him in his arm. “Ouch! Would you stop that?”
“It’s not my fault. You moved here and decided to become my other annoying brother, so you have to pay the consequences” you smirked before you left your room and Sirius rolled his eyes, following you.
“Why did you bring your book?” Remus asked, confused when you sat down next to him and placed your book on the table.
“Well, it kinda gets boring when the conversation turns to Quidditch” you informed him.
He frowned a little confused, but quickly understood what you meant. Throughout the entire dinner, your parents had revolved the entire conversation about James. They first asked how school was, to which all of you replied, he and the rest of the Marauders included. Followed by if you were dating someone. And then, Quidditch. Remus realized you hadn’t even spoken for about forty-five minutes. Your parents even asked Sirius, Peter, and him some questions, but not you. He turned to look at you and saw you immersed in your book. He slowly smiled and then felt a kick in his leg. He turned to glare at Sirius sitting in front of him who was smirking and nodded his head towards you.
“What’s your book about?” he asked. It took you a moment to register that someone was actually talking to you before you lifted your head and turned to look at Remus.
“Oh, um-” you smiled shyly. “It’s a romance novel, I wouldn’t want to bore you” you chuckled.
“You wouldn’t bore me, sunshine” he insisted. When you smiled brightly at him, it gave him the courage to hold your hand in his underneath the table as you started talking about the plot of the book you were reading. He absolutely loved the way your face brightened when you talked about something you liked and that you had his full attention. He could not deny it any longer, he was definitely in love with you.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
The third thing Remus noticed, was the birthday presents.
“Hi Rem” you smiled, opening your dorm. “What are you doing here?”
“Me? What are you doing here? You left your own birthday party” he chuckled.
“Well, you know I don’t like parties” you chuckled. “James makes a whole fuss about our birthdays but it’s mostly for him” you insisted. “I bet nobody even noticed I left” you said.
“I did” he said, making your cheeks burn a little.
“Um… would you like to come in?” you asked, opening the door. “I’m watching an old movie that Alice lent me” you smiled. “I got pastries from the Kitchens” you said, making him smile.
“How could I say no to that?” he asked, following you inside. “I also wanted to give you your present” he said, making you look back at him.
“You got me a present? Remus, you didn’t have to get me anything” you smiled.
“Yes, I did. It’s your birthday” he said, as if it was obvious. “I’m sure you got so many presents already, but one more couldn’t hurt” he said, shyly.
“Not much” you shrugged. “Jamie gave me my badger slippers” you said, showing them to him. “And I gave him lion ones” you giggled. “Sirius gave me chocolate, oh, Alice gave me new paints” you said, pointing at them excitedly. “And Lily gave me a new perfume” you smiled.
“Oh” he frowned, confused. “What about your parents?”
“Oh, my dad sent me this book” you said, showing him a familiar book, he knew you had already talked with him about. “I mentioned to him it was my favorite so he got me one” you explained. “I don’t really have it in my heart to tell him I already have it” you chuckled.
“And your mom?” he asked, extremely confused. He counted at least twenty presents for James from your parents.
“My mum usually gives me some of her jewelry she knows I love, but she doesn’t like to send it through mail so she gives it to me when I come home for the summer” you explained.
“Oh… is… that it?” he asked, without really thinking.
“What do you mean?” you asked, confused.
“Nothing. Sorry, I didn’t mean anything I just- um- I don’t want to cross a line or anything it’s just-”
“Let me guess, Jamie got about thirty presents from my parents” you smiled sadly.
“Yeah” he said, awkwardly. “Look, you know I love your parents. They are some of the kindest people I’ve met, and I know I don’t have any siblings but… I just don’t think it’s fair that they favor James over you” he said, sadly.
“Look, it’s fine. I know my parents love me” you smiled. “Just… probably not as much as James” you chuckled. “I’ve actually learned it’s not the worst thing. I get zero pressure from them. Last year, I was really worried because I didn’t do well on one of my Herbology tests-”
“Because everything you touch dies?” Remus smirked, earning a glare from you.
“As I was saying… I was going to tell them when we came home for the Holidays, but they were so upset that James had lost the last Quidditch match, that they didn’t even say anything to me” you shrugged. “I can literally do anything I want whenever I want and they won’t really mind. I mean, I’m pretty sure I can even date whomever I want but the day James gets a serious girlfriend, my mum may actually die” you told Remus, making him laugh a little. “It used to bother me a lot, but… they do show me that they love me in different ways” you explained. “But I think it’s really sweet you care about that” you smiled at him.
“Well, of course I do. You’re my favorite person in the world” he blurted out.
“I am?” you asked, feeling your heart flutter.
“Of course you are” he smiled.
“I think… you’re the first person in my life that has liked me more than James” you said, feeling a few tears in your eyes. “Sorry, that’s stupid-”
“It’s not” he assured you, pulling you closer and wiping away your tears. “And I really mean it” he smiled. “Happy birthday, sunshine” he said, giving you his present.
“Moonshine” you smiled, opening it. “Remus” you said, feeling your eyes welling up. “Is this-?”
“Yes” he smiled, grabbing The Beatles’ record from you and putting it on your record player. “I know this is your favorite song and it’s also mine because it reminds me of you” he said as the guitar started playing. “Would you like to dance with me?”
“Really?” you asked, excitedly.
“Only because it’s your birthday” he said as you grabbed his hand and walked to the middle of your dorm.
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play? Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day The sun is up, the sky is blueIt's beautiful, and so are you Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
“Why does this song remind you of me?” you asked curiously.
“Well, I read that the song was written about Prudence Farrow-”
“Who is Mia Farrow’s less famous little sister? Wow, Remus-”
“No, that’s not why” he glared a little at you. “I mean she is but, that’s not why” he insisted.
“So?”
Dear Prudence, open up your eyes Dear Prudence, see the sunny skies The wind is low, the birds will sing That you are part of everything Dear Prudence, won't you open up your eyes?
“Did you apply to the art program” he asked, making you smile at him.
“You remembered that?”
“Of course, I do” he frowned. “I remember everything you tell me” he insisted.
“Well… I did” you told him. “I should be hearing about it during summer” you informed him.
“I’m sure you’ll get in, sunshine” he said, kissing your forehead.
Look around, around (round, round, round) Look around, around, around (round, round) Look around
“Well, it was written because she would rarely come out of her bungalow while she meditated. It’s kind of like you and your paintings” he smiled.
“I’m not that bad” you scoffed offended.
“Love, I had to come up three times a day every day on Christmas break so you wouldn’t forget to eat” he reminded you.
“Oh, and here I was thinking you came to get me because you missed me” you pouted.
“That too” he assured you.
Dear Prudence, let me see you smile Dear Prudence, like a little child The clouds will be a daisy chain So let me see you smile again Dear Prudence, won't you let me see you smile?
“I really love this song” you smiled. “And my birthday gift” you added. “And um-” you said, feeling your cheeks burn as you looked away. “C-can I tell you something?” you asked, nervously.
“You can tell me anything, love” he assured you.
“O-okay, you don’t have to say anything and… if it’s weird you can just leave and not talk to me ever again, and… it’s not just because you said you liked me more than James b-but it’s been something that I have felt for a while and I just-”
“Sunshine” he said, cupping your cheek and making you stop your ramble. “I love you too” he smiled, making your entire body feel like you were on cloud nine.
“Y-you do?” you asked, still not believing him.
“I really do” he said, leaning in to kiss you.
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play? Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day The sun is up, the sky is blue It's beautiful, and so are you Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
“Yeah, go get settled, Moony! We’ll wait for you outside” James said as Remus walked upstairs to put his things away. After tossing everything in there really, he quickly found himself in front of your door again. James had invited him to stay over the summer and it had been two weeks without you. Two weeks too long. He smiled as the music blasted on the other side of the door, only this time, he opened it and walked in.
My, my, I tried to hold you back, But you were stronger Oh, yeah, and now it seems My only chance is giving up the fight
And how could I ever refuse? I feel like I win when I lose
Waterloo, I was defeated, you won the war Waterloo, promise to love you for ever more Waterloo, couldn't escape if I wanted to Waterloo, knowing my fate is to be with you
Wa-Wa-Wa-Wa-Waterloo Finally facing my Waterloo
Remus smiled to himself before he walked over to you, pulling your paintbrush away from your hand and making you turn around frowning, but you quickly smiled when you saw it was him.
“Moonshine!” you smiled, throwing your arms around his shoulders and he quickly wrapped his around your waist, twirling you around and planting a big kiss on your lips.
“Hey, sunshine” he smiled when you pulled away. “I missed you” he said, giving you another peck on the lips.
“I missed you too” you smiled, pulling him closer. “How has your summer been?”
“Pretty boring, to be honest” he chuckled. “I see you kept yourself busy” he said, twirling your paintbrush in his hand. “Prongs and Padfoot said you played Quidditch with them yesterday” he chuckled.
“Yeah, they made me” you rolled your eyes.
“Have you… told your brother about us?”
“No” you pouted. “You said we would tell him together” you reminded him. “You know it’s gonna be fine, right?”
“Yeah, I know. Sirius just keeps insisting he will kill me” he laughed nervously.
“I won’t let that happen” you said, kissing his cheek. “I promise” you smiled sweetly.
“So, what are you painting?”
“Oh! I’ve been waiting to tell you” you said, excitedly. “I got into the art program!”
“You did? Love, that’s amazing! I knew you could do it!” he said, hugging you again and giving you a small kiss. “I’m so proud of you!”
“Thanks, Remmy” you smiled. “You’re the first person I’ve told” you smiled.
“I am? Why didn’t you tell anyone?”
“Oh, well, I actually told my parents when we got here, but James won the Quidditch Cup and there are… about ten Quidditch teams wanting to recruit him so… I don’t think they heard me or even knew what I was talking about” you said, smiling sadly. “Sirius said it sounded cool, though” you told him.
“I’m sorry, love” he said, pulling you closer.
“It’s okay. You’re the one I really wanted to tell” you smiled, leaning in to kiss him again. “And, I have to finish this painting” you said, trying to get the brush from him but he put it out of his reach. “Rem!”
“I just got here, love” he pouted. “Wouldn’t you rather spend the day with your boyfriend who missed you so much?”
“Well, yes, that’s why I wanted to finish it before you got here” you insisted. “But James and Sirius kept insisting that I played Quidditch with them yesterday and I didn’t get to paint” you told him but he still placed the brush out of your reach when you tried to grab it. “Remus!”
“Well, you can continue tomorrow” he said, pulling you to him. “I have been waiting for two whole weeks to kiss my beautiful girlfriend” he said between kisses, feeling your smile against his lips.
“Okay, I can continue tomorrow” you said, as he threw the brush on your table and deepened the kiss. “I missed you so much” you said, pulling him closer.
“I missed you too, love” he smiled.
"Hey bug, have you seen Moony-? BLOODY HELL! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING!?" James yelled coming inside your room and covering his eyes at the scene in front of him. Remus instantly jumped off you so quickly he fell to the floor as Sirius came in running behind James when they heard the yelling.
"Why are you yell-? oh bloody hell!" he smirked when he saw Remus standing up and saw that both of seemed very nervous.
"I AM GOING TO KILL YOU!" James yelled to Remus and started running after him with his wand pointing at his neck but you stepped in between.
"Jamie, stop!"
"Get out of the way bug!" your brother’s voice was dangerously low.
"Prongs, calm down" Remus said trying not to show how nervous he really was.
"Calm down?!" James snapped. "That's MY sister!"
"Jamie, please, calm down!" you said also a little nervous.
"YOU SHUT UP!"
"Don't yell at her!" Remus snapped.
"Mate, I would shut up if I were you" Sirius told him.
"ALL OF YOU, SHUT UP!" you yelled at all of them.
“I’m going to kill you!” James yelled at Remus before he started chasing him around your room. Remus quickly ran out with James following him.
“I told you, he would find out sooner or later” Sirius smirked.
“You are of no use to me right now, SIrius!” you said, punching his arm as you followed your brother and your boyfriend. Sirius quickly walking behind you.
“James, what is going on? What’s with all the yelling?” you saw your mother and father come inside the living room where James was still chasing Remus and throwing jinxes at him.
“Stop it!” you yelled running over to your brother and grabbing his arm.
“Get off me!” he complained as Remus ran over to Sirius, hiding behind him.
“You’re being ridiculous!” you said, trying to reach for his wand but he placed it out of your reach. However, you clung yourself to him, trying your best to get it.
“What in Merlin’s name are you two kids doing?” your father asked, confused. It was rare to see the two of you fight like this nowadays.
“Let go!” he said, as your hand reached for his wand.
“You let go!” you complained.
“It’s my wand!”
“Gimmie it!”
“Alright, stop it! Both of you!” your mother’s voice was heard through the room as she pointed her wand at the two of you, separating you, and making James’ wand fly into her hand.
“He started it!”
“She started it!”
“I don’t care who started it! I want to know what’s going on and I want to know now!” your mother said, with her hands on her waist.
“Why don’t you ask your daughter how she betrayed me!” James said, glaring at you.
“Oh, please! Grow up, James! You’re being ridiculous!”
“That’s enough!” your father intervened. “Your mother asked you a question. What is wrong with the two of you?”
“She stole my best friend!” James said, pointing at you accusingly.
“What? I did no such thing!”
“And I thought I was your best friend” Sirius added, offended while Remus rolled his eyes.
“James, sweetheart what are you talking about?” your mother asked, confused.
“Well, mum, I just found your daughter, my so-called sister” he said glaring at you as you rolled your eyes and crossed your arms in front of your chest. “Kissing my best friend!”
“James!”
“Excuse me?” your father said, a bit upset, throwing daggers at the two boys behind your mother.
“Fleamont, darling, calm down” she said, to her husband before turning to you. “Sweetheart, would you care to explain yourself?” your mother asked you, calmly.
“First of all, Jamie is making it a bigger deal than it is” you complained.
“No, I’m not!”
“Yes, you are!”
“Were you or were you not just kissing Moony upstairs?”
“What?” your father asked again, but your mother stopped him.
“Well?” James asked, arching his eyebrow at you.
“I… was… kissing… my… boyfriend” you said, feeling your cheeks burning.
“Excuse me?” your father asked, baffled.
“Boyfriend?” James asked.
“Remus is your boyfriend?” your mother asked, excitedly.
“You can’t have a boyfriend! You’re too young!” your dad complained.
“And it can’t be my best friend!” James added.
“Hurtful, Prongs. Really hurtful” Sirius glared at him.
“Oh, hush, all of you” your mother said, rolling her eyes. “Fleamont, you and I were their age when we started dating” she reminded your father. “And James, you should be happy that your sister is with one of your best friends. Remus is a wonderful guy” she smiled at Remus who felt just a little less nervous.
“Thanks, Mrs. Potter” he said, blushing a little.
“I’m so happy for you two. Sweetheart, why didn’t you tell us?” she asked you.
“Well, I didn’t really know how to because I knew James would throw a fit about it” you said, rolling your eyes.
“I did not throw a fit-”
“James, that’s enough” your mother told him. “Leave your sister alone” she scowled.
“But mum-”
“But nothing. She’s happy and so is Remus and we are all happy for them and that’s it” she insisted.
“I don’t even get a say in it?”
“No, why would you get a say in your sister’s love life?”
“At least she has a love life” Sirius laughed.
“Hey!” James complained.
“Good one, son” your dad laughed with Sirius.
“What is happening?” James asked, upset before he started going upstairs. “I do not like this one bit!” you heard before he slammed his door.
“Don’t listen to him, sweet pea” your dad said, smiling kindly at you. “We are happy for you” he admitted, kissing your head. “But Remus is not allowed in your room and you are not allowed in his, or the two of you alone in a room, understood?” he frowned.
“Yes, dad” you smiled.
“Yes, sir” Remus replied at the same time.
“Good” he smirked proudly.
“I’m so happy for you, sweetheart” your mother said, hugging you.
“Thanks, mum” you smiled.
“You too, Remus” she said, kissing his cheek.
“Thank you, Mrs. Potter” he smiled before she left with your dad.
“I’d like to say that went well” Sirius smirked as you sat with Remus on the sofa and he kissed your forehead while Sirius sat on the chair.
“To be honest, that’s the best I could have asked for” Remus chuckled.
“It felt weird to have so much attention on me” you admitted as Remus kissed your cheek.
“Alright” you heard James’ voice coming down the stairs again. “I have decided that I approve this” he said in a serious tone, sitting closer to Sirius.
“You do know we don’t need your approval, right?” you said, glaring a little at him.
“But there will be no kissing in front of me” he glared at the two of you. “That’s just gross!”
“Fair enough, Prongs” Remus chuckled, kissing the side of your head.
“I just want to say that I am still hurt about your comments made earlier” Sirius said, sounding offended.
“You knew about them the entire time, didn’t you?” James glared at him.
“And I forgive you because that’s what best friends do, Prongsie” he smiled innocently.
“Fine, I forgive you too” James said, rolling his eyes as Sirius hugged him, kissing his cheek. “Get off, you goof!”
“This is going to be a long summer, isn’t it?” Remus asked you.
“Yes, I am so happy you’re here” you smiled, giving him a peck on the lips.
“Hey! What did I just say!?”
“Shut up, Jamie!”

How Sirius finds out
main masterlist
regulus black x potter!reader universe
word count: ~700
Tumblr media
Y/n walked down the stairs, freshly dressed, joining her brother as well as the black brothers in the living room. Regulus sitting on the couch reading, as he usually does. Sirius and James playing a game of wizard chess. Rounding the couch, Y/n sits next to Regulus, not realizing it was slightly closer than they should be in front of their brothers. As the two didn’t know of a secret relationship the couple had been in for the last 5 months.
“Hey.” Y/n said, directing it towards her brother and best friend, “Hi.” the girl said, quietly to the boy next to her, him saying a little ‘hi’ back. Making Sirius look between the two.
“James! Could you come grab this for me, hun? I can’t reach.”
“Yeah, Mum!” James yelled, making his move while standing before heading to the kitchen to help his mum. Leaning over the coffee table to see his best mate out of ear shot, Sirius turns to look at his little brother and bestfriend.
“So, what’s- what is.. What is going on here?” Sirius says, pointing between the couple.
“What are you talking about? Nothing is going on here. Nothing. Nothing at all. Between us?! Me an- and Regulus? You- Sirius you get crazier and crazier everyday.” The girl's rambling always gives away when she’s lying, it really is a miracle the two were able to keep it a secret this long, well Remus, and all the girls, and all of Regulus’ friends knew. But Regulus was proud of her for how she lasted.
“You know you’re a terrible liar, this is why we never give you the detracting job when we pull a prank.”
“Hey! I try. And you guys said it was because I was better at setting up!”
“That’s just one of the things we tell you. And you’re changing the subject. You two? For real?”
“Yes.” Regulus says, the first thing he said since James left the room.
“Godric! I can’t believe this. This is gross and wrong.. And weird. I mean him? Really?”
“Shut up.” Regulus said, eyes going back to his book, after he quickly checks if James is coming back (he isn’t)
“How long? Who knows? Does Effie know? This is the guy Remus said you were seeing?”
“Like 5 months, and Remus and the girls know, Mum does kind of, and yes.” Y/n says, faster than Regulus can understand, but it seems Sirius did, from his nodding. He’s always found it a little creepy how easily they could understand each other. After a few moments have passed Sirius says, “This is weird for me.”
“Well it’s not your relationship, so I don’t really care.”
“Regulus!.. Sirius, we care about each other, and I know you care about both of us. So please, respect us and don’t tell James.”
“Hey! No! You know I can’t keep a secret from James!”
“You kept the secret that you were gay and dating Remus.” Silence came over them, the two best friends staring at each other, wearing each other down. Regulus, sitting aside watching the two. The sound of James’ footsteps coming down the fall break them out of their silence, beginning to whisper yell over each other, Y/n pointing her finger to his chest, and Sirius trying to fight her finger away from him.
“You can’t tell him-” “I can’t do this-” “I swear Sirius I will kill you-” “You know I can’t-” “We want to tell James on our own time!” “I don’t lie to him, we have a mutual understandin- mmm” “I don’t care!”
“Hey, Mum made lemonade.” James said, not quite knowing what he walked in on. Seeing his sister with her hand over Sirius’ mouth, with said boy pushing her hand away.
“What did he do?”
“Nothing! He said nothing, well nothing unusual for Sirius.. Just his usual annoyingness.”
While the girl was floundering, after her brother’s simple question. Sirius leans down to his brother, whispering, “I don’t know how it’s been a secret this long.”

Sirius Black x Potter!reader fluff
Summary: Sirius leaves home and finds himself at the Potter's, he finds out there's nothing like a shower to wash things away.
Warnings: nudity, mentions of having to leave home, lil bit steamy. it's a bit short and I had no idea how to end it :/
Word count: 0.7k
The first thing Sirius seemed to notice when he was at the Potter's is that he always felt a lot warmer. Of course he'd felt it before but now he wouldn't be going back to his parents house. So for the first time he really acknowledged it.
Despite the dreary conditions and the sad look in his eyes, you had greeted him with a bright smile and invited him in. You didn't even care that he was soaking wet when you pulled him into a hug.
'Mum and dad are out at the minute, James is flying, for some reason.' You informed him, 'I'm sure they won't mind you being here though.'
Sirius nodded at you, taking in his surroundings. He didn't expect you to be here for, which he felt stupid for considering it was your house as well.
'Do you want to shower or anything?'
'Should I take that as insult Potter?'
'Maybe you should Black.'
A teasing smile was shared between you both but knowing it was what he needed you grabbed him some towels and lead him to the bathroom. You told him to put his hand under the water as you fiddled with the heat settings for him.
'That should be ok, thank you,' he smiled softly.
'Of course,' you turned to leave and give him some privacy but he gently grabbed your wrist before you could exit.
'Do you think you could stay?' Seeing Sirius Black being shy was a very rare event. Much like her brother, a cocky smile completed his look. However, now Sirius looked small, like he hadn’t been happy in a while.
You really thought it could have been weird. You thought about declining but you couldn’t bring yourself to tell him no. You push the toilet lid down and sat on it closing your eyes so he could get undressed. You opened them as you heard the the shower curtain close again.
You turned to see his silhouette just standing there, he remained still under the water for another 10 minutes.
‘I can come in, if you want,’ squeezing your eyes shut, praying you hadn’t just made a complete fool out of yourself.
There was a silence that was followed by a, ‘yeah, I think I’d like that.’
With that you undressed slowly, hands shaking and got in with him. Both of you not looking anywhere but each other’s eyes, like you were pretending there was nowhere else to look. You both just laughed at each other, neither of you expecting the evening to go like this.
‘Let me wash your hair?’ You asked reluctantly.
‘Please do,’ he nodded.
You pushed him lightly under the water, watching his eyes close as he was brought under the warmth. You wrangled your fingers through his hair, tugging at any knots.
‘Be gentle Potter, I’m fragile you know?’ He was smirking cockily again. You’d normally roll your eyes but it was nice seeing him back to normal.
‘I hadn’t noticed, not like I’m stuck in the shower with you or anything.’
‘Well you offered,’ he sighed. His shoulders relaxed more, he let you rinse the shampoo out of his hair. For a moment, he took a peak at you watching you concentrate. He felt his heart pinch slightly, he’d never been cared for like this before.
The shower had been sound tracked by sighs of content from both you and Sirius. Getting closer and more comfortable the longer you were in each other’s company. Before you both knew it, you were in his embrace, both soaking wet and smiling. His head resting in the crook of your neck.
He was scrambling for more closeness. Desperate to seek comfort in you, knowing you'd happily satisfying his need.
'You smell so good,' he was practically whining.
'Thank you, I'm having a shower.'
He turned to look your way, you both smiled at each other. Sirius had a lightness to him that wasn’t present earlier that night.
‘You feeling ok?’ Genuinely smiling at him, you were both subconsciously leaning into each other. He nodded, looking at your lips.
‘I am now.’
Your lips met, moving in synch with each other. Your hands moved up his chest to wrap slowly around his neck. His hands tight around your waist, scared he’d wake up and you’d be gone.
He pulled you in closer, one of his hands had been placed at the top of your back while the other was brushing its way up and down your thigh. Breaking apart, noses touching.
‘I should run away more often,’ you laughed at him, shaking your head.
‘You should get out the bloody shower, you’re wasting water being in there with MY sister.’
James back from flying really trusted himself to ruin the moment.

Y/N Potter became an aunt in 1980 to a wonderful little boy named Harry. Her brother, James, had asked her to be the boy's godmother, as his best friend Sirius was named the boy's godfather. She of course accepted this honor, not knowing that a year later, the boy would be hers to take care of.
The night of Lily and James Potter’s death, as well as Lord Voldemort, Y/N was left by some of the most important people in her life. Peter had died, murdered by a supposed friend, Sirius Black, who was thrown in Azkaban after killing Peter and a dozen muggles. And then there was Remus, who had just left without a word, no note, no letter, just left. Remus was like another brother to Y/N, they had become friends before James and Remus became friends. So when he left without a trace, she was quite upset, she had just lost her brother and sister-in-law, one of their friends, another getting locked up and she was all alone with a baby that she didn’t know how to care for.
That was until she had run into Severus Snape at the late Potters’ grave not even a week later. He was leaving a fresh lily on the stone as she walked into the cemetery. They sat and talked for over an hour until Harry began whining to eat. This became a routine for the two adults. Eventually Severus began to help Y/N take care of Harry and herself, getting the Potter girl a job at Hogwarts with Professor Sprout after remembering that Herbology was her favorite subject. He helped her around the house and the two became unlikely friends.
By the time Harry had reached 11, Y/N was offered the position as Herbology professor after Sprout had retired. She of course accepted the position, the first person other than Harry being told was Severus. She had gotten the job thanks to not only Professor Sprouts’ recommendation but also Severus, McGonagall and Binns. Getting a recommendation from Professor Binns was her greatest accomplishment other than being able to raise Harry when she was just barely an adult. She did give a lot of thanks to Severus for helping her raise the boy.
Although Severus and James never got along, Severus had always been fond of the Potter girl. She was his favorite Potter that he had ever interacted with, which had only been four but that hadn’t mattered to him. Severus was quite fond of Lily but after realizing she was unattainable, he was able to move on from her. His fondness shifted to a different Potter, this time Y/N. Severus acted like a guard dog in a way, trying his damnedest to keep her safe and happy.
Not only did he act this way to her but also Harry. The boy grew up seeing Severus nearly everyday and had taken to calling the man Uncle Sev when he was 4. Severus had a fondness for Harry but nothing like the fondness he had for the boy’s aunt. Although her brother and his friends were terrible to him, Severus always liked the Potter girl better than her mischievous brother. He knew she was much different from her brother, more reserved, more intelligent, kinder.
The two grew closer and closer as the years went on, it got to a point that other professors were betting on when they would get together and students were constantly asking if they were a couple. Of course the two denied it but then later fantasized about being with the other instead of fessing up to their feelings. However, everything went astray during Harry's third year. Sirius Black had escaped Azkaban and Remus Lupin the new DADA professor.

“Alright kiddos,” My dad groans as he gets up from his spot on the couch, “I’m gonna go to bed. You can stay up a bit longer but, please, don’t cause harm to anything, okay?”
“Yeah, James, no more fires,” I quip, jokingly scowling at my older brother.
“That was one time!” James cries, obviously offended.
“I’m talking to you too, Y/n Potter, you both bring chaos into this house and I’m not looking to put out another fire at 3 in the morning,” Dad replies as he exits the room.
I turn to James and then look towards the pile of board and card games that we’ve collected over the years, “Uno?” I ask.
“Obviously,” He answers with a smirk.
---
“Oh! You bitch!” James yells as I set down a wild draw four, forcing him to add 4 more cards to his 18 others.
knock... knock... knock... A rap sounds from the front door making both of our heads turn, who could be here at this time of night?
“I’ll get it,” James sighs as he stands up. “Grab your wand in case it’s a murderer and I need backup.”
I roll my eyes at his dramatics, but grab my wand from the side table nonetheless. These days you never know who could be lurking around the corner.
In the entryway, the front door creaks, and I hear James exclaim with a strange amount of abhorrence in his tone, “What are you doing here?”
The voice that follows makes me stand up and I have to physically restrain myself from running straight toward it. I, instead, creep to the door overhearing every strained word, “I just need to see Y/n. I have to see her, please.”
I turn the corner to see Regulus Black standing on the covered porch with tear-stained cheeks and dark circles under his eyes. He looks at me and his eyes light up, like a child receiving candy. He steps forward but stops himself from going any further obviously contemplating whether or not he should step in.
“Regulus? Are you okay?” I ask, rushing over to him and grabbing his face with both hands, searching for any sign of harm. He sets his hand onto one of my own and leans his forehead against mine. He takes a deep breath and closes his eyes, seemingly relieved.
“I’m so sorry, I just can’t do this without you,” He says as his voice quivers.
“It’s alright, lovey,” I reply, moving the hand he isn’t holding to run my fingers through his curls. “You can always come to me and I will be there, I promise.”
I lean in and kiss his lips savoring every second of the closeness. When we separate, I move to pull him into a long hug, his body is tense but melts into mine. It may be cliche but it feels like it’s only the two of us at this moment, unfortunately, it is not. James clears his throat and inquires, “What the fuck is happening?”
I separate from Regulus and step in front of him watching James shut the front door and walk back to the living room. We follow and observe him as he drops himself onto the couch and runs a hand over his face. James utters, “Well, are either of you going to explain, or do I just have to assume?”
“Well,” I begin, nervous for James’s reaction, “Regulus and I have been- well… dating for the past year or so.”
James opens his mouth as I try to speak but immediately closes it again, he repeats the cycle until he states, “Okay. Why are you here then, Black?”
“I, uh, it got really bad at Grimmauld Place earlier,” Regulus replies, looking down towards his feet. “I didn’t mean to intrude.”
“Where’s Sirius?” James asks quickly, more worried about his best friend than anyone else.
“I don’t know, he didn’t come home last night, he only left behind a note that said, ‘later bitches’. They didn’t believe me when I told them I don’t know where he went,” Regulus answers grimly, I grab his hand when I notice his eyes start watering.
“Alright, don’t think we’re done talking about this, because we’re not, but I’m gonna go look for Sirius. Get him some tea or something and don’t be gross, I’ll be back soon,” James sighs and runs to the fireplace. Regulus and I observe as he grabs a handful of Floo powder and steps in. He slams the powder down and exclaims an address then immediately disappears leaving behind only ash and green flames.
I sit down on the couch with Regulus and bring him into a big bear hug, knowing he didn’t like initiating affection but needed some for the moment. He buries his face into my neck and breathes in deeply. I feel hot tears slowly drip onto my skin but I do nothing but move a hand up to his curls.
“Thank you for being here,” Regulus mumbles.
I respond, “I will always be here, my love for you is eternal.”
He leans back looking me in the eyes, “I will forever love you, Y/n. You are the stars in my galaxy.” I look into his red-rimmed, glossy eyes smiling at him. He chuckles, “If he wasn’t so worried about Sirius, James would be kicking my ass right about now.”
“I hope that he would keep the ass-kicking to a minimum,” I laugh, knowing the worst James would do is ignore me for a few hours until giving up because he got bored. “Besides I’d save you from him.”
“Would you now?” He entertains, life coming back to his features as we talk.
“Of course, I love you too much to let you be ended by, James, of all people.”
“Merlin, what are we going to do?” Regulus groans, “By the time they get here Sirius and James will have decided whether they will speak to us ever again.”
“We will do what we’ve been doing this entire time, this is none of their business,” I quip, “Besides, you’re staying here from now on whether they like it or not.”
“Really?” He questions, “Can I?”
“Of course, I’ll talk to my mom and we’ll sort it out. You will never have to go back there again,” I reply, strength filling my words.
I don’t ask what happened that night, but based on the past I can infer what he’s been through. If I can help it, I will never Regulus go through that again.
I never did.

His sunshine
grumpy!remus lupin x sunshine!reader
word count:1k
summary: Remus lupin was always grumpy especially before the full moon but what if there was a girl that was the human embodiment of sunshine, what if he was in love with her but what if she was the sister of his best friend
****************************************************
As the warm sun began to peek through the Hogwarts windows, Y/N Potter bounced into the Gryffindor common room, humming a tune that Remus Lupin had never heard before. He couldn't help but notice how she radiated positivity and happiness, even at such an early hour.
Remus had always been a bit grumpier than the rest of his friends. The full moon always took its toll on him, and he didn't always have the energy to put on a happy face.
But somehow, Y/N's presence seemed to make all of that disappear. Whenever she was around, Remus found himself drawn to her infectious laughter and her endless optimism. He couldn't quite put his finger on why he liked her so much - after all, after all, she was his best friend's sister - but something about her made him feel happier than any prank he could pull with his friends, any piece of chocolate he could buy and any book on earth.
As Y/n talked with her brother about the upcoming summer vacation, Remus couldn't help but notice how her eyes would brighten while they talked about their plans. But after he heard Sirius snicker he turned his attention back to his book trying to ignore him.
"I see our little moony has a little crush on sunshine," Sirius said into Remus' ear. "I have no idea what you're talking about," Remus said, looking at Sirius. "I don't have a cru-" "Don't lie. We can all tell you have feelings for her. Except for Prongs, you know him, he's weirdly overly protective, but I'm sure if you talk to him, he won't kill you, but if he gets angry, I found this really cool cave outside Hogsmead that's pretty cool; I bet you could live there for a while." Remus scowled at Sirius. "How the hell did you find a cave?"
Before he could respond he was interrupted by lily storming into the common room towards James, looking furious "YOU TWAT!! Lily yelled at James. Remus smiled to himself, glad that the attention was now off of him and his supposed crush on Y/N. He continued to read his book, glancing up every once in a while to see what was happening.
Eventually, the argument died down and everyone went their separate ways. Remus couldn't help but catch Y/N's eye as she walked out of the common room, and he felt a flutter in his chest. Maybe Sirius was right - maybe he did have feelings for her. He decided to take a walk around Hogwarts, trying to clear his head and figure out what he was feeling.
As he walked through the castle, he couldn't shake the image of Y/N's smile from his mind. Maybe it was time for him to finally admit to himself that he had feelings for her. But how could anyone as happy and kind as her like someone like him, a cold grumpy monster. Remus continued to ponder as he wandered around the castle.
He decided to head back to his dorm and collect his thoughts. As he walked back, he couldn't help but think about the conversation he needed to have with Y/N. Maybe he could tell her how he felt, or maybe he should keep it to himself - he wasn't sure. But one thing was for certain: he couldn't get her out of his head.
When he walked into the common he saw Alice Prewett of y/n's roommates-  "hey Remus is everything alright, you seem distracted?" she asked with a kind smile on her face. Hearing her voice made him snap out of his daydream  "oh hi Alice yeah everything's fine do you happen to know where y/n is?" she looked at him with a knowing smile a nodded and went up to her dorm.
Remus's heart skipped a beat as he waited for Alice to tell him where Y/N was. He couldn't stop thinking about her and how he had been feeling lately. Alice paused for a moment before speaking. "I think she's in the library. She said she had a lot of studying to do."
Remus nodded and thanked Alice before heading out to the library. As he walked through the halls, he couldn't shake the feeling of nervousness that was settling in his stomach. What if Y/N didn't feel the same way? What if he ruined their friendship? All these thoughts were swirling in his head as he approached the library.
When he saw Y/N, his heart skipped a beat. She looked beautiful, as always, with her hair pulled back and her nose buried in a book. Remus took a deep breath and approached her. "Hey, Y/N. Mind if I sit here for a bit?"
Y/N looked up from her book and smiled. "Of course not. What's up?"
Remus fidgeted with his sleeves before speaking. "I've been wanting to tell you something for a while now. But I've been too scared because I didn't know how James would react, but Sirius shockingly helped me see that it doesn't matter. I know we've been friends for a long time, but I've been having these feelings for you lately, and I just wanted to let you know."
Y/N's eyes widened in surprise before she looked down at her book, trying to hide the blush on her cheeks. "Remus, I had no idea. I've actually been feeling the same way."
Remus felt a weight lift off his shoulders as he heard Y/N's words. He felt like he was walking on clouds, and he couldn't help but smile. "Really? You feel the same way?"
Y/N looked back at him with a smile. "Yes, really."
And with those words, Remus knew that everything was going to be okay. They had both been hiding their true feelings for years, and now they could finally be together. He leaned in and kissed Y/N, feeling like the luckiest guy in the world.

November Prompt 28: Moonlight
Words: 1.7k | Pairing: Remus Lupin x reader
Tumblr media
Most nights, when the chaos of the others had become too much, you’d sneak out for walks. The only places you could manage without being caught were The Great Hall, the common room or the library, and most were empty at night anyways.
Tonight was different, usually you’d sneak out alone in the graces of James’ invisibly cloak; however, you never expected to cross a lounging Remus on the way out. Well, you had no intentions of actively crossing him, but you’re sure you’ve bumped something that grabbed his attention tonight, or he simply just knew your secret routine.
“Sneaking out again, are we?”
“I just want to see the world… or the castle at least,” you whine sarcastically.
He closes a Defense Against the Dark Arts book that has been nudged between his fingers for days now. You can even see the indents between his fingers where the weighted book cover and pages had lain for much too long.
“I’ll join you. And no time for protesting,” he sighs. “I get enough of that from Sirius and James, even Peter now.”
“If you insist,” you whisper and pull the cloak back just enough to let your curls out. They’re still damp from your shower and removing your plaits, but they always dried faster the more you wandered through the castle. “But Remus, I must warn you that the library can be very boring at night, even for people like us.”
He takes a step closer, tucking his book somewhere on the mantle behind you with a smile.
“Then we shall explore the grounds then. Outside?”
You smirk to hide the joyous feelings bursting inside of you. Finally a real adventure and not alone. And going out with Remus would be of no harm since you always find yourself around him, courtesy of your older brother, James.
It doesn’t take long for you to realize that Remus is waiting for you to lead the way. Under the veil of the cloak, you both wander out of the common room and down into the long, dark corridors. No one can see you under the cloak, shoulder to shoulder with him. No one can see a map in Remus’ hand that opened at his touch just before the both of you mindlessly rushed towards a hidden passageway leading out of the castle, just near the greenhouses, for a lick of freedom.
The moment the late autumn wind sweeps over you, both warm and cool, you feel a sense of relief. Enough to bring the cloak just onto the shoulders of you and Remus.
In the distance, there are twinkling lights and bright stars in the sky. There’s the sound of whatever leaves are left on the trees being plucked by the wind, swept up and crashing onto the ground with their former friends. A vicious cycle.
You can see the darkened clouds splotched near the moon. The moon is only a bit more than a sliver, but you wouldn’t dare journey out if it were full. And in the distance, you can make out the outline of the Whomping Willow, a ghastly and dangerous plant that should certainly be nowhere near students.
“We can’t possibly be going there.”
“We are. It’s safe, I promise,” Remus assures, being you a firm glance to accompany his words.
And you trust him, you always have.
As you two approach the tree, there’s a stillness in the air that lasts for only a moment before the branches stretch out towards the moon in a whipping snap. Within a second, Remus readies his wand, firmly casts Immobulus, and the stir of violent branches instantly freeze into place.
“Come on,” he chuckles, quite amused by your awe in the simplest of things. He grabs your hand and follows you into the crawl space under the tree.
There isn’t much light until he casts Lumos and with that, you know it’s safe here.
“Where are we going exactly?” You inquire as you follow him through the tunnel.
“The Shrieking Shack.”
“Rumors say that place is haunted.”
He stops short, turning to you in the light of his wand and the walls of the tunnel. You take in his scars, once violently slashed across his face, but very faint now. They were something you knew him to be insecure about, but you never minded. And up close, you can see the way his skin has fused with them, how they’ve permanently become a part of him. You reach up to caress his cheek, just to touch him, and he doesn’t even flinch. There’s actually a softness that quickly overcomes him when he gazes down at you and you, up at him. You’ve been close to Remus, but never close enough to smell the sweetness of chocolate that lingers on his breath and surely not close enough for his lips to part above yours. Your eyes begin to flutter closed in comfort, but the coolness of his smirk widens them back.
“We should get going. It’s cold down here, we should get you warmed up.”
You want to grab the collar of his hoodie that he’s been wearing long before you found him perched on the couch in the common room. There’s no way he didn’t feel the electricity between the two of you, but a rumbling above the ground snatches your thoughts and you return to reality.
“It’s just a storm rolling in,” he states.
You hadn’t noticed that after the encounter, his hand had found yours, partially in your hand and partially on your wrist. Maybe he detected a spike in your pulse at the sudden noise or he really knows you more than he lets on.
At the clearing of the tunnel, you and Remus climb through a hinged door, then through the doors of the old abandoned house. Tattered wallpaper has been peeling off the walls for decades, revealing weathered wooden slats within the walls. There’s an old mattress on the holey floorboards, but newer blankets, sheets and pillows on top of it. Glass from an old window hardly glistens in the distance, covered in dirt and dust. The window itself has been patched up with boards and rusty nails older than your own existence. And the dusty floors have scars long and deep carved into the wood.
“I’ve been coming here a lot. I’m sure James has mentioned it,” he says bluntly, voice fading somewhere in the background.
“I didn’t want to believe it… that you have to manage something so painful all alone.”
The floor squeaks against the weight of his thin frame and he comes back with handfuls of chocolates.
“My secret stash. Have to keep it in a trunk to keep the creatures out. Though, I don’t see them much now that I’ve been here and decorated the place.”
You smile, biting back a small giggle.
He steps closer, in front of you now. His eyes are full and attentive.
“Close your eyes, alright? I want you to try something.” You hear the rustling of a wrapper the moment you close your eyes for him. “And open your mouth,” he adds sweetly.
And you do.
You hum softly, mouth watering at the sudden taste of perfect bitterness and sweetness. The sweetness melts against the warmth of your tongue, some sort of chocolate you don’t recognize from Honeydukes or the trolley ride over breaks. Without realizing it, you’re backing towards the mattress in the corner next to the fireplace. Remus had lit it at some point and only your nose recognized the pinch of burning firewood.
“Don’t open just yet,” he whispers, voice echoing through your ear canal like a rubber ball in a young muggle’s hands, like pure bliss.
His hands gliding over your shoulder blades are enough to make you want to steal a peak at him, but you fight your instincts. You allow yourself to feel the goosebumps pricking against your chilled skin from the trace of the pads of his fingertips. Though, with his breath this hot on your neck, you’re nowhere near freezing.
“Remus,” you moan. He only hums in return. After all, what can he say when you’re already falling apart under his grasp. “Kiss me…”
There’s a moment of silence. A moment when his touch melts into your skin under your chin and he gently tilts your head back. Nothing comes until you open your eyes. You’ve never seen a man so perfect. You can see it in his heavy, yearning eyes, all the ways you can have him in your grasp.
Nearly any time passes before he delves into you, planting a heavy, openmouthed kiss against your lips, tasting the sweet aftertaste of chocolate on your tongue. You toss the cloak down, your robe, wand and short set pajamas follow until you’re standing half naked in front of the man you snuck out with. Remus can’t process it, can’t help but lie you down on the old mattress he’s slept on alone almost a month ago and many months before.
In the coolness of the room, you feel nothing but warmth with Remus’ hands and lips on you. Your moans faltering under the soft crackling of the fire and his own chuckling.
When he returns to you, he’s still in complete awe, stroking your cheek softly and playing with strands of your hair as you stare up at him. And when you finally allow your gaze to wander past him, just through a sliver in the ceiling and beyond the storm, you can see a waxing gibbous in the night sky so vividly. You stare at the moon, taking in the small dark spots visible from Earth’s view. You know that in just a few days, you’ll be seeing this view from inside the safety of the castle. You pull Remus closer in your arms, mindlessly stroking his hair at the thought of you sneaking out to the library or Great Hall while he lied here alone waiting for the moon the fade out and overtake him.
“Remus,” you yawn.
“Mhm.”
“Just promise me that once you’re back, we’ll take another walk under the moon.”
He sits up onto his elbow and brings your gaze back towards him.
“I promise,” he replies and pulls you into a tender kiss under the moonlight.

James Potter? Why he is a troublemaker, of course! Along with his faithful troublemaker mate; Sirius Black. The two were inseparable. Running through the halls, and causing havoc within the Hogwarts Castle. He may be called; obnoxious, bully, or prat. But he had an ego the size of a lake, but a heart to match it.

Bigger Than The Whole Sky
pairing: none... well i guess james potter x sister!reader
genre: angst Angst ANGST
el's thoughts: i don't know why i'm like this... but enjoy and i'm sorry in advance
Tumblr media
“Deep breaths,” Y/N whispered to herself as she tried to focus on her surroundings rather than her feelings. She ran her thumb over her fingers, counting slowly in her head, a trick Remus had taught her back in school to help her calm down. Once she reached the far corner of the graveyard she stood frozen in her place, not bringing herself to look at the two stones she came to visit. Her breaths turned ragged as she clenched and unclenched her fists, “I can’t do this.” She sat down in the snow, cringing when she felt the cold seep through her clothes.
After steeling her nerves she finally looked up at the stones in front of her. Lily Potter. She felt her heart drop to her stomach as the air in her lungs left her body in a harsh gasp. Her sister-in-law. Her sweet Lily. She knew she needed to turn and see her brother but she couldn’t do it. No matter how hard she tried to turn her head she couldn’t move.
“I’m so sorry…” Her voice was breathless and barely loud enough to be heard by anyone. “I’m sorry it took me so long to come and visit.” She paused, silently wishing to hear their voices tell her it was okay. And maybe she was going crazy, but she could’ve sworn she felt the faint brush of a warm hand against her cheek. She smiled to herself and kept talking, “I’m sure you’re wondering how Harry is… He’s fine, babbling more and more every day.” She finally looked up at the other stone, James Potter. “He looks so much like you. I have our old photo albums mom used to keep and I swear Jamie… He’s a spitting image of you, other than the eyes of course. It’s Lil’s eyes he has.”
The more she forced herself to talk the easier it became, the lump in her throat seemed to loosen despite the salty tears streaming down her cheeks. “I’ll admit there are times when I feel like I can’t do it. I can’t take care of him… I’ll never be his mom and I just-” She sighed, “He looks so much like you both it hurts. But I try, every day I try harder to be the best Aunt I possibly can be for him.” She looked back down at the snow around her and let her fingers draw shapes and patterns. “You have to know that I’ll never let him forget you two. I tell him about you guys all the time and I show him the photo albums. I know he can’t really understand yet, but when he does start understanding I’ll make sure he knows you two loved him so much.”
She sat there in silence for a few moments before the cold started to sink into her joints, making it hard to flex her fingers. She moved to stand up but froze, looking at her brother and sister-in-law, tears still falling down her cheeks. “I have to go now, or else I may be joining you two very soon.” She let out a humorless laugh. “I’ll come back and visit. I promise, and next time I’ll bring Harry.” She ran her fingers over their names, knowing her fingers must be blistering because of the cold but she didn’t care. “I hate that I won’t have you with me anymore… But know that your memory will live past the short time we had together.”
She tightened her fist the best she could. “What did they have to take you? Was it because I didn’t pray or tried hard enough? I’m sorry I let you both slip away… I should’ve fought harder, I knew I could’ve fought harder.” She took a deep breath, shuddering at the bitter cold air entering her lungs. “I have to get back to Harry… Molly is watching him for me right now…” A choked sob fell from her chapped lips, “I’m never going to meet what could’ve been you as parents. What would’ve been, what should’ve been you.” She took her wand and left a wreath of white roses. “I’ll come again. I love you both.” She kissed her fingers and placed them on the cold stones. “Goodbye.”

Remus Lupin x Potter reader where the reader is stealing his chocolate and putting the blame on her brother(s)
I put brother(s) cause sirius y’know?
YES! this is the best  😂😂😂
"Seriously? Again!?" Remus complained when he grabbed the empty box of chocolates from his nightstand.
"What?" James raised his head from his bed.
"You two idiots stole my chocolate again!"
"How do you know it wasn't Peter?" Sirius frowned.
"Because Peter doesn't eat chocolate!" Remus stated, throwing away the empty box.
"Mate, I've told you a million times! It's not us! It's my stupid sister!" James argued. It was close to the full moon and they both knew better than to cross Remus' wrath on those days. Especially if it involved his chocolate.
"You keep saying that but I find it very hard to believe" he glared at the bespectacled boy. "She would never lie to me" he insisted.
"Are you sure about that, mate? She keeps telling you it's us!" Sirius said, pointing at himself and James.
"Because it is!"
"No, it's not!" James said, frustrated. "You really need to stop thinking my sister is perfect, mate. She's very far from it" he said, making Remus glare at him.
"Yeah, mate, all you choosing her over us, it's not cool! She's mean!"
"She's not mean!" Remus argued. "You two always steal things from me and she would never-"
"Hey, dorks, is Remus still doing his rounds? I have his-" you stopped dead in your tracks when you entered the boys' dorm, with a new chocolate box in your hand and eating the last piece of Remus' previous box. "R-Remmy" you chuckled, nervously. "H-hi, love-"
"It was you?!" he asked in disbelief.
"We told you!" James and Sirius said, standing up and looking at you with the biggest smirk on their faces waiting for Remus' wrath to unfold on you. 'You're dead!' James mouthed at you.
"You stole my chocolate? All this time?" he said, walking closer to you and making you back against the door.
"I- uh... y-yeah" you said, looking down.
"But you said it was James and Sirius" he said, with a hurt voice.
"I know, I'm sorry. The first time you just looked so m-mad and I didn't want you to be mad at me and- Look!" you said, raising your hand and showing him the box. "I b-bought you new ones because I know it's close to the full moon and I didn't want you to be more upset" you smiled nervously.
"Oh, she's done" Sirius whispered to James as the two of them looked entertained. But their smirks quickly fell when Remus got closer to you and kissed your cheek, making you smile sweetly at him.
"Thanks, love. You didn't need to buy me a new one" he said, grabbing the box from your hand. "Next time just ask me, yeah?" he said, kissing your forehead and walking between James and Sirius and back to his bed.
"W-wait, that's it?" James complained.
"What?" Remus asked, taking a piece of chocolate as you walked and sat next to him, kissing his cheek.
"Moony! You have been whining about me and Prongs stealing your fucking chocolate when we told you it wasn't us! And then she barges in and all you say is thank you?!" Sirius asked, pointing an accusatory finger at you.
"Last time you thought it was me, you threw your book at my head!"
"Yeah, well, she apologized and got me a new box" he said, offering you a piece. "Which you two never did" he explained.
"Because it wasn't us!" they argued at the same time.
"Oh, just give it a rest" you said, resting your head on his shoulder as he kissed your temple. "I told you I'm his favorite" you smirked.

regulus black x potter!reader headcannons
main masterlist
regulus black x potter!reader universe
yn is a very outgoing person, but when she gets comfortable with someone she could just sit in silence with them for hours. James, her mom, remus, and regulus are those few people
regulus always lets yn know where he's going/what he's doing
like when they become public, regulus will walk over to yn after he's finished breakfast (which is always before her because he wakes up earlier) and always lets yn know whats going on
"hey. I'm going to potions now."
"okay reggie, i'll see you at lunch!"
and in public it's always yn initiating pda, but in private reg is really the more cuddly/touchy one
and when yn does show him affection in public he gets very awkward
"heyyy honey! you're eyes look pretty."
"okay.. i gotta go."
"you look so hot in your quidditch uniform!"
"mon amour, i have to go warm up.."
"i love you!!"
"i love you too." 😐
yn braids regulus' hair while they cuddle
they both like making their brothers uncomfortable by being coupley but hate when either brother interrupts their couple time when they're alone
yn know regulus hates awkward silence, so i imagine that like the first dinner after their brothers found out about them, it was very awkward and yn had to fix that for her boy
"did you know that dinosaurs all had big ears but everyone forgot because dinosaur ears don't have bones?"
"no i didn't know that, hun." -effie
"thats cause it's not true.."
regulus flirts with yn in french and after a while she gets fed up at reg not telling her what he's saying so she learns french
yn is a terrible cook, effie had tried to teach her countless times, when reg moves in with the potters effie teaches gim how to cook in order to bond with her and he is just a natural
Regulus fell first, Y/n fell harder

When we were young we were the ones, the kings and queens, oh yeah we ruled the world
“Jamie!” You screamed, placing the bright gold crown on top of your head, “I told you that I wanted to be the king, and you’ll be the queen!”
James huffed, putting the pink cape and blue tiara on, “Well how am I expected to be the queen, when I have no purse?” He asked in annoyance, putting his hands on his hips.
You waved a hand dismissively, “I don’t know, figure it out.”
He scanned the living room before walking over to the couch and taking a small pillow as a makeshift purse.
“This will have to do.” He shrugged, studying his ‘purse’.
You looked him over before giving a nod of approval, “We may now leave.” You said in your best attempt at a formal voice, well as close to it as you could get to it as a five year old.
The two of you marched through Potter Manor, on a mission to find your parents through the maze of a house.
Euphemia and Fleamont Potter sat in their dining room, sipping on coffee and trying to enjoy whatever little peace they were getting at the moment.
They didn’t know what drove their normally loud twins into this quiet state, but at the moment they weren’t really complaining.
Their long deserved peace was disturbed though, by their five year old twins marching into their room in royalty costumes.
Mia raised an eyebrow while Fleamont choked on his drink, “What are you kids doing?” Her voice held some slight amusement.
The twins looked at each other and nodded before yelling in sync, “We are the queen and king and we rule this house!”
Fleamont let out a barking laugh and his wife elbowed him in the stomach, “Well that’s very nice kids, what great imaginations you have.”
Your father sniggered, “Yeah kids, what great-“
Mia elbowed him again, three times harder and he doubled over this time.
You and James sent each other a look that was full of mischief, communicating without even talking.
“Attack!” The two of you screamed at the same time before charging at your now wide eye parents.
“Mia, I think we messed up-“ Fleamont cut himself off with his own high pitched scream as his son jumped on top of him and his daughter did the same to his wife.
We smoke cigarettes, man no regrets
“What is that?” You asked with wide eyes, staring at whatever was in your brother's hand.
Said boy smirked proudly, “This, my dear sister, is a cigarette.”
Your eyes widened even more, “James!” You hissed at your ten year old twin brother, “Mum and dad said that those are bad for you!”
He rolled his eyes, “Not that kind of cigarette, this is a candy one from Diagon Alley.” He told you.
Your mouth turned into an ‘oh’ shape as you watched him put it in his mouth, and then blow out bright pink smoke.
“I want one!” You whined.
He rolled his eyes again, but took the bag of them out of his pocket and handed you one, much to your delight.
You tasted it, and when you pulled away you told him, “It tastes like strawberries.”
He nodded, “That’s because it’s the flavor that you got.” His tone was teasing this time.
You moved to taste it again, but the door to James’s room- where you both were- opened up and Fleamont walked in, “Hey kids, have you seen-“ he cut himself off with wide eyes as he saw what was happening.
You both quickly put them down and in sync, scrambled to say, “No, no, no, dad! It’s not what you think!”
But it was too late, your father had already turned on his heels and began running down the hallway, “MIAAA-“
Wish I could relive every single word
“They’re here!”
You woke up to the sound of James screaming at the top of his lungs, bouncing around your room like a bad chocolate frog on the loose.
Slowly opening your eyes with a groan, you glared at your brother slightly because he had woken you up in the middle of summer.
“They’re here!” He repeated with a squeal, finally coming to a stop right in front of your face.
You gave the bespeckled boy's face a harsh push away from yours as you grumbled out, “What the bloody hell are you going on about?”
“Our Hogwarts letters are here!”
That made you sit straight up with wide eyes before looking at your brother suspiciously, “You didn’t open them yet, did you?”
He shook his head, “We promised each other that we would open them together.”
You looked at James with some surprise, not realizing that he would remember the deal you made at the age of six about five years ago.
“Mum and dad don’t even know yet.” He continued, waving two envelopes in front of him.
You gladly accepted the envelope with your name on it and looked up at James who was already looking at you.
“One,” You said in sync.
“Two.” You both got ready to rip it open.
“Three.”
We’ve taken different paths
“Gryffindor!” The sorting hat’s booming voice shouted through the Great Hall.
And right on cue, the whole table of red and gold erupted in applause for James, welcoming your brother with open arms.
James didn’t even spare you a glance as he cheerfully skipped over to where his new friends were sitting.
You felt your heart deflate a little, at least having expected a small smile or wave.
Right after, the teacher, Professor McGonagall, called out your name and immediately all eyes were on you.
Nervously, you walked up to where the stool sat, not yet ready for some ancient hat to decide your fate.
You sat down quietly, holding your breath as the hat muttered in your ear, but you were far too nervous to actually comprehend what it was saying.
After a moment-which was a moment longer than you wanted to be up there-it seemed to come to a conclusion as it yelled out, “Ravenclaw!”
The house of the eagle began clapping for you wildly, but you paid them no mind as you scanned through the sea of people to try and find your brother.
As you walked over to your new table, your eyes finally landed on James, but he wasn’t looking at you, his eyes were trained on the table, deep in thought, and he appeared to be ignoring everything going on around him.
You sat down at your table, finally looking away from James, just missing it as he looked up at you.
And traveled different roads
You slowly walked to your very first potions class with some of your new friends surrounding you, chatting happily, completely oblivious to your state.
James and you hadn’t talked since before the sorting ceremony, and this was going to be your first class with the Gryffindor’s of your year, meaning your brother.
As you entered the room, you saw him sitting with who you now recognized to be Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew.
And according to one of your new friends who loved to gossip, the four had grown very close in such a short period of time and were practically inseparable, as well as troublemakers. The last part did in fact sound like your brother.
He glanced up as you entered, momentarily making eye contact.
Even though you could all sit anywhere, James didn’t offer you a seat and you didn’t ask for one.
Instead, he gave you a small smile, the first sign of acknowledgment he had given you.
And as you went to sit on the other side of the classroom, you returned it, not really knowing what the future would now hold for you and your used to be inseparable twin brother.
I know we’ll always on the same one when we’re old
Two nights ago, you had decided to sneak out for the first time after being at Hogwarts for three weeks.
You did that one night when you couldn’t fall asleep because you and James would always say goodnight to each other before you came to school. And you didn’t know about him, but it sure helped you sleep.
Without it, you had been having a lot of trouble falling asleep at night, as stupid and childish as it may sound.
Due to this, on your nightly walk the day before, you discovered that the astronomy tower was a great place to just go, watch the stars, and sit in peace, which mainly had to do with the fact that Filch was scared of heights and didn’t go check on it at night.
You had been going there for the past two nights and it helped you get through each long night.
What you hadn’t expected though, was as soon as you stepped into the tower, you were met with the sight of James looking up at the stars.
He seemed to have heard your footsteps because he whipped around with wide eyes, ready to sputter out excuses to whatever professor had found him, when his mouth clamped shut at the sight of you.
“S-sorry.” You stuttered out, not having expected him to be there, quickly turning on your heel to exit.
“No!” He quickly scrambled up before stopping and clearing his throat, rubbing the back of his neck nervously, “No, it’s okay. You can stay.”
You hesitated before nodding slightly and sitting down a couple feet away from where he had just been sitting.
After a moment he went back to his spot and copied you while looking up at the constellations.
“So,” James cleared his throat, nervously glancing over at you as you kept your eyes trained on the sky.
“So.” You repeated, not looking away from the sky.
“I’m sorry.”
Your head snapped over to James in surprise, he never apologized. Never.
He quickly tried to explain himself, “I guess I just thought we would always be in the same house, you know? I was just in shock that you weren’t gonna be with me at all times any more, and I got caught up in that fact and accidently started ignoring you.”
He must’ve taken your long silence as you not wanting to talk to him, because he sighed and moved to stand up.
“Wait.” You said softly, causing him to pause, “I always thought that we would be in the same house too.” You whispered, glancing down to see James’s eyes on you, “I thought that I would have my twin brother with me forever.”
“You will.” His answer surprised you.
You looked over to him to see him already looking at you with a small smile.
Suddenly you stuck your hand out with your pinkie up, “Twins forever?” You asked challengingly.
It was something that the two of you came up with when you were little, and you hadn’t done it in many years.
Without hesitation, he wrapped his pinky around yours, “Twins forever.”
And when you’re in the trenches and your under fire, I will cover you
Lucius Malfoy sneered down at you as you dropped your head and tried to let your hair hide your face, begging the universe to let the ground swallow you whole.
Normally you wouldn’t be fazed by the blonde boy, ignore his jabbings and even send some back at him, but you were tired today and had a test in History of Magic, so you were just beyond drained.
He had seemed to find it his personal mission to make everybody’s lives around him miserable ever since first year.
And now with it being second year, everybody was just so done with him.
What neither of you noticed was that James had rounded the corner to see you practically cowering in a corner, clutching your books like a lifeline while the Malfoy boy stood over you.
You, who could handle yourself. And he knew that you could, so seeing this did not make him happy in the slightest.
And James Potter saw red.
He quickly threw down his books and angrily stomped over to where the two of you were, “Oi!” He called out and the platinum blonde boy jumped a little, “What the bloody hell is going on here?”
As he came to stand slightly in front of you, you couldn’t help but feel immensely grateful. You knew that he would normally let you handle yourself, but it seemed like he could sense how much you needed help at that moment.
James quickly drew his wand and pushed it right into Lucius’s face, “You better get out of here before I hex you, Malfoy.” His voice held such disgust and anger that Lucius’s eyes widened in surprise.
He quickly backed up, stumbling, before sprinting out of the hall, knowing full well that the Potter boy would in fact hex him into next Thursday.
James turned to you in concern, imminently softening, “Are you okay?” His voice was gentle.
You nodded slightly, quickly throwing your arms around him, much to his surprise, “Thank you, Jamie.” You mumbled into his robes.
He wrapped his arms back around you protectively, “Of course, n/n. I got you.”
Let’s just say you weren’t surprised when Lucius Malfoy was the victim of the infamous marauders next prank.
If I was dying on my knees, you would be the one to rescue me
“I’m gonna die!” You complained dramatically, flopping down onto your back in the grass beside your twin brother.
He glanced down at you from his quidditch magazine with an amused smile and chuckle, “Is that so?”
You nodded, throwing an arm across your face, “Second year exams are in one week! I’m not ready for those!” You whined.
“Shouldn’t you be studying right now, then?” He teased playfully.
You glared up at him, “Shoulnt you be studying?” You challenged back, purposefully eyeing his quidditch magazine that definitely didn’t have anything to do with the exams.
He threw you one of his annoyingly cocky grins, “I, dear sister, don’t need to study. For school comes naturally to me and I will pass all of the classes with flying colors.”
You let a scoff escape your lips as you sat up and glared at James slightly, “School most certainly does not, ‘come naturally’ to you, and if you don’t study, then you’re going to fail.”
Only once you finished talking did you realize how much you sounded like Lily Evans, a Gryffindor girl in your year that you had only ever talked to once, and who your brother appeared to be obsessed with.
Then it was his turn to scoff and throw a glare right back at you, “You’ll be eating your words when mum and dad are sending owls while crying with joy when they see my scores.”
“Oh, they’ll be crying alright, just not for that reason.” A sly smirk made its way onto your face, but it quickly dropped at the look that James was giving you.
His face was serious, but his eyes held the promise of mischief.
Without warning, his hands dove at you, tickling your sides, causing you to let out a squeal and immediately move your body away from him.
“JAMES-“ Your screams were cut short, replaced by your own giggles.
And if you were drowned at sea, I’d give you my lungs so you could breathe
“Y/n! Y/n!” James began to panic once you didn’t resurface.
The two of you had both just finished the last of your third year exams and had been talking when James bet you that the lake was still freezing, even though it was June.
You had laughed at his stupidity and shook your head, telling him that he was a div and it clearly was going to feel refreshing in the heat.
The conversation quickly escalated into a full blown argument that led to the two of you had stomped down to the Black Lake- fellow students scurrying out of your way as you did so- and both dove head first into a sort of deep part of the lake to see who was right.
Turned out you were, though James would never have admitted it, but after five seconds of James coming up for air and you not, dread started to set in his chest.
His breathing started getting heavier and his eyes- that no longer had their glasses- were whipping around in fear, looking for any sign of you.
When he didn’t find any, he didn’t hesitate before taking a large gulp of air and diving down into the dark waters, ignoring the rushing sounds in his ears, and frantically looked around for you the best he could.
It didn’t take him long to spot you, struggling against the bottom of the water, your robe stuck between two rocks, leaving you unable to move.
Your movements were getting slower by the second, and it was clear to your brother that you were running out of breath. Fast.
The sight of your eyes beginning to flutter shut would haunt James Fleamont Potter for the rest of his days.
Ignoring the burning in his lungs, James pushed as hard as he could to swim over to you as fast as his legs and arms would carry him.
By the time he reached you, your arms had gone slack and your eyes were fully shut, mouth beginning to open slightly.
With all the strength he could muster, James yanked on your practically lifeless body as hard as he could, successfully releasing- but tearing- your robe away from the rock, setting you free.
After using the ground to give himself a boost, he pushed himself and you out of the water and dragged the two of you to the surface and surrounding ground.
Nobody was around because the two of you had technically skipped class to settle your debate, so no one could help.
Going as fast as he could, James picked you up bridle style and threw his sweatshirt that he had discarded before diving in over your shivering form and began sprinting back to the school.
“Hang in there n/n…”
I’ve got you brother
“James?” Your voice croaked groggily, heavy eyelids slowly peaking open.
Said boy immediately jumped up from his seat and didn’t waste a second before practically tackling you with a hug without thinking.
You winced slightly, trying, but failing to lift your arms to wrap themselves around your brother in return. This caused you to panic.
“James.” The boy immediately let go when he heard the nervousness in your voice and backed away.
“Oh Merlin! I'm so sorry! That probably hurt! I should’ve been thinking-“
You cut off his rambling, “James, why can’t I feel my arms? Why cant I move them?” Alarm took over your voice and features.
“Hey, hey.” He quickly came back to your side, sliding onto the bed next to you, “It’s okay, don’t you remember what happened?”
You shook your head in fright when you realized that you couldn’t remember anything that had happened that day, you had just realized that you were laying in the hospital wing, which was practically empty except for you two.
“You and I went for a swim in the lake and-“ James cut himself off, looking away in hopes that you didn’t see the tears in his eyes, “-and one second you were there and the next you were stuck at the bottom of the water… I had to- I had to save you… but I was almost too late.” A sob finally escaped his lips.
You breath hitched as you realized that your brother was saying that he had to watch you almost die, and then save you cause you couldn’t do it yourself.
Feeling had begun to return to your arms, and with all the strength you could muster, you reached up and did your best to wrap them around James.
He didn’t hesitate to turn around in your arms and begin crying in your hair.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” He sobbed out over and over again, and this time it was your turn to shush him. Tell him that everything was okay, and that it wasn’t in any way his fault.
If that day taught you anything, it was that you could never have your twin brother feeling like that again. Ever.
I’ve got you brother
“This is your fault.” You whispered harshly, scrubbing the plates over the sink.
“My fault?” James hissed back, not stopping drying the dishes as he angled a glare on you, “You’re the one who insisted on seeing if we could fly off the roof.”
“Oh well, I’m sorry,” You sassed, “I forgot that we didn’t have magic to help us out with that!” If there wasn’t glass in your hands, you would’ve thrown them up.
“Less talking, more scrubbing!” The two of you heard your mother call from the other room, causing both of you to groan.
“It’s summer break.” You whisper had dropped an octave lower at your mothers warning, “We shouldn’t be doing chores, we should be having fun.”
“Yeah, we should.” He matched your tone level, “But here we are.”
You glared at him, “I hate you.”
He returned the favor, “I hate you too.”
Carefully, you put the plate down in the sink, and scooped up some water in one of your cupped hands and threw it at James, who let out an offended gasp and looked down at his now wet shirt.
“How dare you!” His voice became high pitched as he threw the dish towel at you, which made you let out a gasp.
“How dare you!” You shrieked back.
Safe to say, an angry Euphemia marched into the room only to come face to face with two angry twins and a very messy kitchen.
I’ve got you brother
“So I was thinking…” James said, sliding into the seat next to you.
You looked up from your homework and raised an eyebrow at your brother, ignoring the weird looks you were getting from the other Ravenclaws because a Gryffindor came to sit at your table.
“That’s never good.” You said in return, allowing your head to turn back to your homework, hoping that your comment would send your brother away.
Sadly though, he ignored you, “What if we went to Hogsmead together?”
Ever since last year, when third years were allowed to start going, and he went with his friends every time.
This caused you to raise your head again, this time in shock, “I thought you were going with your friends?”
James shrugged, “Yeah, but I wanted to go with you.”
You bit the inside of your cheek, glancing over at the Gryffindor table where his friends sat, but they didn’t seem to be paying attention to either of you.
“Fine.” You gave in, and your brother in turn gained the biggest smile you’d seen all week.
“We’re gonna have so much fun.”
I’ve got you brother
“So,” You drawled, sitting down next to James, a large grin on your face, “Lily Evans, huh?”
James, who had been trying to do his homework for once, had been sitting in the library when you heard the news, and as soon as you did, you sprinted as fast as you could to where you knew your brother would be.
His face went red, and he ducked his head, letting hair fall in front of his face, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He mumbled.
You had never seen your brother blush, so the sight of it made your grin widen even more.
“Oh come on, James, the whole school is talking about how you and Lily were assigned to work on a potions assignment together.” You teased, secretly happy for your brother and his longtime crush.
“Sod off.” He gritted his teeth, still trying to avoid eye contact.
You stayed silent for a moment, before letting a smirk take over your grin, and you leaned closer to James and whispered to him to muggle rhyme that you had heard before, “James and Lily sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-“
James stood up suddenly, slamming his hands down on the table, “I said to bloody sod off!”
Everybody in the library turned to the two of you as you cackled silently and the librarian turned to you guys with a sharp glare, “Out, Potters!” It obviously wasn’t the first time that she had to kick you guys out for being too loud.
Safe to say that your laughter didn’t silence as James sulked out of the library, dragging you along with him by the arm.
Oh brother, we’ll go deeper than the ink beneath the skin of our tattoos
You sniffled, hugging your knees to your chest tighter as you stared out at the empty quidditch pitch
Just last week, a Hufflepuff in your year had asked you out on a date to Hogsmead that weekend. You had been thrilled seeing as it was your first date, even though you were in fifth year.
You had shown up to Three Broomsticks, where you two said you would meet, but after two hours of waiting, they never showed up.
After that time, you had scurried out of the restaurant, keeping your head down to avoid looking at peoples pitying looks and so that they couldn’t see your teary eyes.
You had known that no matter where you went, there would be someone there to see and judge you. Your dorm mates would be somewhere in Ravenclaw tower, students would be in the Great Hall, classrooms would be being used for various things, the astronomy tower had a club meeting there today, and the house elves would be in the kitchen.
So on that cold day, you ran to the quidditch pitch stands, knowing that nobody would be there.
What you didn’t expect though, was that after about ten minutes of you sitting there and crying in peace, someone sat down beside you.
This caused you to jump in alarm, not having heard anyone approach you, and whipped around to the person with wide eyes.
James had been hanging out in the common room with his friends when all of a sudden he felt like he should- no, needed- to go to the quidditch pitch. He couldn’t describe the feeling to his friends, or even himself.
But nevertheless, he had jogged to get there, not knowing what to expect, but definitely not thinking he would come face to face with the sight of you crying alone in the stands.
James was the first to speak up, “I thought… I thought you had a date?”
He had not in any way liked the idea of you going on a date when you had brought it up to him, but he also knew that it wasn’t his decision to make, so he just bit his tongue and kept his opinions to himself.
You shrugged, averting your eyes from his calculating gaze, “They… they stood me up.” You whispered, half hoping that he didn’t even hear you, but knowing that you couldn’t even bother hiding the truth from James. He would know, somehow, he always knew.
“Oh, n/n…” Without wasting a second, James wrapped an arm around you, letting you rest your head against his shoulder.
He rested his head against yours after giving the top of it a soft kiss, rubbing comforting circles on your arm while your body shook from the sobs.
“I-I really thought that somebody finally wanted to go out with me.” You admitted between sobs, allowing your brother to do his best to comfort you. “W-why didn’t they show up?”
You knew that he wouldn’t know the answer, but you couldn’t stop the question from slipping past your lips.
“Becuase they’re an asshole.” He grumbled in response, holding you tighter as he thought of that pathetic excuse of a person.
You turned your face and continued to sob into his shoulder, unable to help yourself as pathetic as you looked.
As James looked down at you he promised himself one thing, he would do everything in his power to make sure you never felt like this again.
Though we don’t share the same blood you’re my brother and I love you, that’s the truth
“Yeah? Well you’re adopted!” James yelled back from across the table, slamming his hands down.
Euphemia continued calmly eating her food while Fleamont looked down with a snort, giving a small yell of complaint when his wife kicked him in the shin.
You looked back at James with unbelieving eyes, “I’m adopted?”
“Yes!” James continued to scream.
You began talking slowly, as if speaking to a toddler, “James, think about this for a second.”
“I did.” He snapped, “And you’re adopted.” He let out a huff of air, dramatically crossing his arms and turning his head to the side.
“We’re about to be in sixth year… it really shouldn’t be taking you this long to figure out.” You couldn’t believe he was your brother sometimes.
“Figure out what?” His voice was sharp, clearly still mad at you for the silly argument you two had just gotten in moments before.
“We’re twins, dumbass.”
We’re living different lives
“How about Saturday?” You tried again, looking hopefully at your brother across the Gryffindor table.
He didn’t even glance up as he flipped the page of the Daily Prophet, continuing to read, “Sorry, n/n, I have quidditch practice all day.”
“Oh.” You breathed out, deflating a little, “So you’re busy all week?”
He nodded his head, finally looking up at you, “Yeah.”
“James!” Sirius Blacks voice boomed throughout the Great Hall, plopping down in the seat next to your brother and giving him a slap on the back.
“Hey, Pads.” The Potter boy greeted back, matching his energy.
Slowly, you began moving out of your seat, not that I would’ve mattered, he didn’t even notice.
You left the table with your head slightly hung, it appeared that even your brother was now too busy for you.
Heaven only knows, if we’ll make it back with all our fingers and our toes
You wrapped your arms around yourself tighter, trying to protect yourself as much as you could from the crisp and needle like winds.
The blue and bronze scarf around your neck had been wrapped tightly around as much as it could without tearing.
Of course, the biggest quidditch game of the year for the quidditch cup had to take place on the coldest day of the year.
Normally you wouldn’t bother coming to the matches, you weren’t really into them like your family was, but it was Ravenclaw vs Gryffindor and some of your friends were on the team and begged you to come support them, and even though you and James had been growing apart again, you still thought it would be a good thing to do to watch your brother.
Because of the cold, the stands weren’t as densely packed as they usually were whenever there was a match going on, and all of your friends had already given up and retired to the school for some warmth.
As the game carried on, you had let your mind wander. If you were cold where you were standing, then it must’ve been so much worse for the players who were zipping left and right with the wind blowing right on them.
You hadn’t even noticed that something had happened until there were screams and gasps from all around you, but not the normal cheering screams that you would normally hear at the game, these were terrified screams.
Your head snapped back up in the game just in time to see your brother fall right off his broom and through the air, a beater nearby with his bat raised and a horrified look in his eyes at what he had accidentally just done to the chaser.
As fast as you could, you scrambled over to the edge of the stand, shoving people roughly out of your way as you let out an agonizing scream, “James!”
The game came to a halt as people on both teams rushed down to the ground where your brother's body lay in a heap, panicked looks written all over the teams and nearby teachers' faces.
You watched from way up high helplessly as Madame Pomfrey rushed out onto the field and immediately set to work on making sure your brother would be okay.
You knew your face was pale and eyes were wide as you stood frozen, shaking from not only the cold now, but also terror. The same kind of terror that James must’ve felt all that time ago when you had almost drowned.
You had never taken into account just how bad that feeling was, but from that moment on you knew that you would never feel a worse feeling than thinking that there was a possibility that your brother was dead.
You nearly collapsed with relief when you saw his form begin shifting slightly on his own from way down below, letting you know that he was in fact alive.
Five years, twenty years, coming back it will always be the same
James turned towards you, his eyes holding sadness, “Are you ready for this?”
You shook your head wordlessly in return, not looking away from the castle that you had grown to call a home, unwilling to believe that you were leaving for good.
“Time went too fast.” You finally whispered out, tears welling up to the brim in your eyes.
“I know,” His voice was soft as he took your hand in his own, giving it a gentle squeeze, “I know.”
You finally turned to look at your twin brother, “We’re not children anymore, James.” Your voice held the sadness at the realization.
This time it was him shaking his head, hair bouncing softly back and forth, “Not anymore.” He agreed, giving your hand one final comforting squeeze before letting go of it.
As you turned your attention back to Hogwarts, a wave of memories came crashing over you, both good and bad. Both with your brother and without. But all ones that you knew you would never forget, because they all shaped you into the person that you were that day.
“Trains leaving.” His voice pulled you out of your thoughts.
You turned to him with a single nod, casting one last longing glance back at the place you loved so much, before hopping onto the Hogwarts Express, leaving an old life behind and beginning one you never thought would come.
When you stepped onto that train, you left your childhood behind and everything that came with it.
If I was dying on my knees, you would be the one to rescue me
James came sprinting into the room, not even bothering to knock as he barreled through the door with little to no sense of what was going on around him.
“What is it? What’s wrong?” His voice came out high pitched, laced with worry.
Euphemia looked up from her desk, frowning slightly at her son's disheveled state, “What’s wrong, James?”
“That’s what I just asked you.” His voice came out in a strained way that was clearly from stress.
His mother stood up quickly and strode over to him, gently taking him by the shoulders and searching his face.
“Dad told me that something happened to Y/n, but he didn’t say what it was.” He now sounded desperate, needing to know that you were okay.
Mia relaxed, letting go of James’s shoulders and taking a calm step back, letting out a small chuckle that made James confused.
“Everything is fine, James. Y/n just dropped a glass plate and cut herself, nothing a little medical potion can’t fix.” Her voice was reassuring and James visibly relaxed as well.
She gently cupped her son's face, an adoring smile growing on her own face, which caused James to tilt his head and look at her in slight confusion, “What?”
Euphemia just shook her head softly, not letting the smile drop from her face, “Nothing, James, nothing.”
And if you were drowned at sea, I’d give you my lungs so you could breathe
You took a deep breath, leaning your head back to look up at the stars, taking in the beauty of it all.
James turned to you, “I still can’t believe that we’re not going back to Hogwarts when summer ends.”
You let out a little hum of agreement, not taking your eyes off the constellations, “I know, it’s crazy.”
“Do you think McGonagall will miss us?” He asked absentmindedly.
You let out a little snort, “I’m sure she’ll miss me, I don’t think it’s the same for you though.”
Your brother let out an offended gasp, clasping a hand over his heart dramatically, “How dare you? I’m her favorite student!”
“Her favorite student to give detention to.” You said back, a teasing look on your face.
This made him hesitate, “Yeah… you’re kinda right…”
This time it was your turn to do something dramatic, as you whipped your head in his direction, “What did you say?”
He let out a groan, “Shut up. One of the times I was in detention because of you anyway!”
You scoffed playfully, “I didn’t ask you to do that!”
“Well I had to be your knight in shining armor and save you by taking the blame for the prank you pulled on Flinch!” He made his voice deeper and raised an arm above his head.
You let out a snigger, “It was my first and only prank.
“And your big brother had to save you.”
“Okay, for the last time, you are TWO MINUTES OLDER-“
I’ve got you brother
“Are you sure you want to do this?” James asked for the thousandth time, warily eyeing you.
You gave yet another firm nod, “I’m joining the order with you James. Just like Sirius, Remus, Peter, Lily, and all the others. It’s time for us to do our part and take our places in this world.”
He sighed in defeat, holding his hands up in surrender, taking a step back, “I know, I know. I just wanted to make sure because you know once you start this life… you can never leave it.” His voice held a sorrow that you knew all too well.
You placed a hand on his shoulder, “It's okay, James. I know.”
I’ve got you brother
You stared directly in front of you numbly, not even being able to register as James reached over and squeezed your hand.
You ignored it when he wrapped his arms around you, pulling your view away from the sight in front of you and began sobbing into your hair.
You didn’t even try to comprehend the fact that there were no longer tears in your eyes, the only indication that you had ever been crying coming from your bloodshot eyes and stained cheeks, but apparently you had cried all the tears you had. You no longer had any left in your body to cry.
Everyone had long since left the two of you alone, knowing full well that you needed to be in each other’s company and not be surrounded by anyone else at such a time like that.
It was standing there in that moment, standing in the practically empty place, that you knew you would never be the same. Everything that had happened to you up to that point never had affected you more than staring at Fleamont and Euphoria Potter’s graves.
And if we hit on troubled water
You sensed a presence sitting next to you, “Hey, there.” The voice was soft and all too familiar.
“Hi.” You mumbled back, not looking up from your plate as you poked your food with your fork.
“You know… you really shouldn’t play with your food.” James attempted to joke, smiling slightly, dropping it once he didn’t get one in return.
“Whatever.” You dropped your fork, pushing your chair away from the table, clearly fed up with your brother already.
He sighed, grabbing your arm gently to stop you from stalking away, “Hey, hey, wait… it’s been hard for me too.” He tried.
Even though it had only been a week since your parents' funeral, you and your brother were taking it very differently.
While you wallowed in your sadness, James smiled through the pain. Trying to make sure everybody else was okay without taking a moment to make sure that he was.
“You know you can always talk to me, n/n.” He said hopefully, looking at you in an almost begging way.
You finally looked at him, softening, “You can talk to me too, Jamie.”
He let out a chuckle that wasn’t exactly full of humor, it held a tint of sadness, “You haven’t called me that in a long time.”
You slowly walked over and sat back down next to him, “Let’s talk, James.”
I'll be the one to keep you warm and safe
You let out a grunt of pain, refusing to give the death eaters in front of you the satisfaction of hearing you scream.
One day ago, you had been sent on an undercover mission for the order by yourself, much to your brother's dismay, but it turned out to be a trap and you were quickly outnumbered and captured.
You had been interrogated over and over again for what the exact mission was, who the members of the order were, and where your base was.
Of course you had refused to say anything, doing everything in your power to keep your surviving family and friends alive.
After a while of you not answering their questions, they had turned to torture methods, but still with no avail.
You knew that after this long of you not checking in with the others, James was going to be jumping out of his skin and definitely would’ve convinced the others by now to go looking for you. So now it was your job to stall until they found you.
“Okay, this is the last time I’m gonna be asking you, Potter. Where are your little blood traders and mud bloods hiding?” One of them asked you, wand gripped tightly in her hand with her teeth gritted, clearly long out of patience.
“Screw. You.” You answered for the thousandth time.
“That’s it.” A man spoke up from behind, standing up and walking in front of the lady, “If she’s not gonna talk then let’s just get this out of the way and kill her already.”
Right on cue, the doors burst open and in stormed the angriest looking James Potter that you had ever seen, closely followed by other order members.
“Get away from my sister.” And with that, he yelled out a curse, pointing his wand at the nearest death eater.
And we'll be carrying each other, until we say goodbye on our dying day
“Stupefy!” You screamed, your throat slowly becoming raw.
“Expelliarmus!” You heard James yell from right behind you, equally as loud.
The two of you were back to back, spinning in circles while fighting off as much death eaters, doing everything in your power to keep the other one safe.
Everytime a death eater would send a spell your way, James would block it and send one right back, just as you were doing the same for him.
With one final spell being yelled, all of them had dropped to the floor, unconscious, and James immediately turned to you.
“Are you okay?” He rushed to ask, scanning your face up and down for injury.
You nodded your head slightly, “Yeah, you?”
“Yeah.”
Because I've got you brother
It was hard for you to believe still, that in the midst of all this war and suffering, you twin brother still found the will to have a wedding of all things.
It made you happy beyond belief that he loved Lily enough to risk it in the middle of everything that was happening, and it made you even more happy that the redhead was more than thrilled to marry him in return.
They loved each other, and that’s all you could ever ask for.
Despite everything, you let the smile grow on your face as you watched Lily- soon to be- Potter walk down the isle in the most beautiful dress you had ever laid eyes on, and your brother wearing the largest grin that you had ever seen in your life.
All around you, their closest friends sat gathered around, some with tears in their eyes and others with similar smiles to yours.
“I do.” You heard them say in sync, and from that moment on it was sealed. You now had a sister in law.
I've got you brother
As you looked down at the sleeping baby in your arms, you didn’t think that you could ever be happier than you were in that very moment.
Because you were now an aunt, and you were holding your week old nephew in your arms.
James watched you two from the corner of the room with a fond smile, absolutely adoring the way that two of the people he loved most in the world were interacting, even if one of them wasn’t doing much.
“You know,” You spoke up quietly as to not wake the baby, glancing at your brother, “It’s very self centered for you to have your son's middle name be your name.”
He scoffed slightly, a playful glint taking over his eyes, “It’s not self centered if I gave him the best name in the world.”
You paused for a moment, studying your brother, “…Its only because Lily said no to naming him James Junior, isn’t it?”
“…no.”
I've got you brother
You ran around the living room with a laugh, bouncing a laughing one year old Harry up and down in your arms as Lily also let out a laugh from on the couch.
James walked into the room to be greeted by this sight and spat out his drink all over the floor, his eyes widening.
“Careful!” His voice came out high pitched as he practically screeched, rushing over and gently taking Harry out of your arms, “You'll drop him.” He accused.
You rolled your eyes, placing your hands on your hips and glaring at him, “Oh yes, because I’m such an irresponsible adult that I would drop my one and only nephew.” You replied sarcastically
“You would!”
Harry looked back and forth between you two as if he understood what was going on as Lily just shook her head slightly from the couch, knowing exactly what was about to go down.
“Okay, YOU KNOW WHAT-“
I've got you brother
The house had been suspiciously quiet for at least a half an hour, and normally Lily wouldn’t think anything of this, if it weren’t for the fact that both James and you were in the house at the same time.
She searched through all the rooms, secretly tense in case the two of you were planning to pull a prank on her and/ or jump out at any minute and end up giving her a heart attack.
What she didn’t expect though, was to enter Harry’s room to come face to face with the sight of her child peacefully sleeping in his crib while you and James each sat in a chair on opposite sides of it, you with a children's book opened in your lap.
The two of you were asleep, your head dropped to your chest, and James’s head tilted towards the ceiling with his mouth hanging open.
The redhead stifled her giggles as she closed the door softly, letting the three of you get some sleep.
If I was dying on my knees, you would be the one to rescue me
“Y/n… we need to talk.” Remus said after knocking on your door and you allowing him to enter.
“What’s up, Remus?” You asked, glancing up from your desk.
Ever since you joined the order, you had gotten to know James’s friends better and found out that they weren’t necessarily bad people, they just had a bad reputation in school for all the pranks they had pulled.
As your eyes caught Remus’s, you immediately knew something was off. His eyes were bloodshot, his hair was a mess, his voice had quavered, and his hands were shaking slightly.
“What’s wrong?” You immediately stood up, panicking.
“It’s- it’s…” He trailed off, looking up at the ceiling and blinking really hard, as if to rid himself of tears, “It’s James and Lily.”
You felt your heart drop to the very bottom of your toes.
“The- the dark lord found them, Y/n… they- they didn’t make it.”
Time stopped.
The only thing you could hear in that moment was your heart pounding in your ears, not even conscious of the way your knees buckled out from underneath you, nor did you notice when Remus caught you and brought you into a comforting hug.
Your brother, your James, couldn’t be gone. He couldn’t be dead. He was far too strong and brave for that. He would never let himself die. Leave you alone. You knew he wouldn’t, so this had to be one of his pranks- yes, that’s what it was, one of his pranks.
“That’s not funny Remus.” You finally said, but even as you did, your voice wavered at the end. Deep down you knew that it wasn’t a prank at all. It was far too serious of a time for that.
A tear ran down the man’s face, “I’m so sorry.”
A gut wrenching sob escaped from the back of your throat.
And if you were drowned at sea, I'd give you my lungs so you could breathe
The war was over.
That’s what everyone had kept telling you.
They were all cheering. Celebrating. Not even taking a moment to think about why it was over. Think of all of those people that lost their lives because of that damn war.
The ones who believed that they all had died for the right cause. The ones who didn’t know any better.
The war that took everything from you. Parents, friends, and now your twin brother- your other half. All dead in the name of that war.
People kept telling you that none of them died in vain, they all made it possible for the war to be fought and won. But they weren’t the ones who lost everything.
They weren’t the ones who were now numb to everything.
I've got you brother
“Y/n?” Remus called out hesitantly, putting his hand on your shoulder, hoping to not frighten you.
You snapped out of your daze, harshly shrugging his hand off as you took a swig from your fire whiskey, leaning back stiffly against the couch, “What do you want, Remus?”
“Don’t you… don’t you think that it’s time to come out of the house? It’s been two months, you need to come back out eventually.”
He understood- Merlin did he understand- but James was one of his best friends, and he now felt that it was his job to do what the Potter boy had spent his whole life trying to do. Take care of you.
“Sod off, Lupin.” Your voice was cold and distant, nothing like the one he used to hear whenever you were joking around with your brother when he was still around.
“Look, I’m just-“
“What?” You snapped, whipping around to face him, “Worried? Concerned?” You scoffed, turning back around, “Don’t pretend like you actually care.”
“I do care.” He stressed, feeling with every bone in his body that he needed you to believe that.
Ignoring the burning sensation that still sat in your throat, you took another swig of your drink, “Get out of here, Remus.”
The man could do nothing but stand up sadly and walk out of the room, sending one last glance to you before shutting the door softly behind him with a click, wincing slightly as he heard the sound of glass being smashed against the wall.
I've got you brother
You knew that you would never be able to get past your brother's death, the only reason you ever got through your parents and friends were because he had been with you. Helping you. Supporting you.
What ever happened to twins forever? The promise he made you that he would be by your side through everything?
But now he was gone, and you were all alone in this world.
And there was only one thought keeping you going, you had to find and take care of Harry James Potter.
Even if it was the last thing you would do.
