FANKIDS APPRECIATION WEEK, DAY 3: Holy Trinities
AISLING, SAOIRSE, and OSCAR LYNCH are the children of Tadhg Lynch and Niamh Kelly. Saoirse and Oscar are twins, five years younger than Aisling. They’ve generally got a good relationship, which is quite the antithesis to their father’s own sibling relationship. The three of them get on quite well, although Saoirse has a tendency to compare herself to her older sister and the twins are a bit closer to each other than they are to Aisling.
GIO, ENZO, and REVA ROVERE-PARSONS are the children of Georgie Parsons and Angelo della Rovere (@potionboy3). They usually get along alright, although the similarities between Gio and Reva can cause them to butt head and both of them are closer to Enzo than to each other. The Rovere-Parsons kids do have a good relationship, which is something their parents tried to foster in them… especially because there’s no extenuating circumstances that can cause too much damage to their sibling relationships.
MILES, JANE, and KATE O’NEILL are the children of Rory O’Neill. Miles is Rory’s son with his late first wife, Francesca Ashby, while Jane and Kate, are his twin daughters with his second wife, Ethel Malinda (@gaygryffindorgal). There’s a fourteen year age gap between Miles and the girls, which precludes a lot of chances for closeness between them during Jane and Kate’s childhood. However, as the girls grow up, their relationship with Miles grows closer and they’re able to find more in common with one another.
MAGGIE, RICHARD, and AUDREY SAPIEHA are the children of Aisling Lynch and Jojo Sapieha (@slytherindisaster). These three, in many ways, subvert expectations. Maggie’s the troublemaker, while Richard, who looks like his maternal grandfather, is the serious and responsible one and Audrey is the carefree animal lover. They generally get along, although Maggie is a bit older than Richard and Audrey. They do have a tendency to bicker a bit, but well, there’s genes from two of the Gryffindorks in these kids.
SETH, NAOMI, and CIARAN O’DONNELL are the triplet children of Conor O’Donnell and Ruth Lyman. Born shortly after Christmas, the triplets generally have a good relationship with one another. Seth, Naomi, and Ciaran are quite close and typically, their relationship is similar to their father’s relationship with his siblings. They’re rather similar to their parents and each other, which can cause some heads to butt. They’re also the youngest of the O’Donnell cousins.
WYATT, JONAH, and ZOEY MACKADE are the children of Nate MacKade and Nova Hartley (@gaygryffindorgal). Wyatt might be five years older than the twins, Jonah and Zoey, and a lot more carefree than either of them ever were, but he’s their big brother and he loves them. Jonah and Zoey love him too, even if they find him too obnoxious. Meanwhile, the twins have a strong relationship that’s prone to bickering as Zoey acts like the big sister and Jonah gets annoyed by it. Wyatt, Jonah, and Zoey love each other a lot, but like their cousins, they don’t always like each other.
LYLA, AMELIA, and TOMMY WHITTEN-MARCH are the adopted children of Thea Whitten and Noa March (@thatravenpuffwitch), although Lyla and Amelia are identical twins. Tommy joined the family last, at the age of four after the death of his father, while the twins, Lyla and Amelia were adopted as babies. Thus, it took them awhile to start forming a bond as Lyla and Amelia are also six years older than Tommy. However, they did eventually have a good relationship and prove that sibling bonds can transcend blood.
ASHER, HAZEL, and HUGH WHITTEN are the children of Jack Whitten and Sage Carridan (@kc-and-co). They have a good relationship, with Asher taking after their mother and Hazel and Hugh taking after their father. Hazel and Hugh have a slightly closer relationship than either of them have with Asher. However, this doesn’t stop a close bond from forming, as the siblings found ways to connect… commonly golf as they often accompanied their maternal grandfather to the golf course.

1.05 “The Broca Divide” pt 2:
I want to throw the first half of Everlasting Man at the entire concept of this episode.
All right, though, I'll admit that "She... tried to seduce me." "Oh! ...You poor man" is a very funny exchange. Maybe it’s just the awkwardness. Maybe it’s Daniel’s deadpan. Maybe it’s that they both seem able to accept it as just an awkward occupational hazard of Gate travel—sometimes your teammate may try to seduce you, and all you can do is fend them off, fix the problem, and move on.
Ooh, I like how Jack seems to be talking in a completely rational tone, even as his sentiments get more off-the-wall, all the way up to the “physically whaling on Daniel” point. It’s disturbing. Again, subtlety and incomplete corruption is often spookier than a sudden and complete takeover.
Daniel, realizing that two of his friends have been taken by this dumb Caveman Disease: all right, now I’m mad >:(
“Mr. Teal’c” aw, I appreciate your courtesy, Janet
“I think it's safe to say they aren't born primitive, they must have this very contagious disease, and we came in contact with them... isn't that special.” Have I mentioned I enjoy Daniel being sarcastic and aggravating? It’s lots of fun.
Oh hey, this means Daniel and Teal’c have to interact because they’re the only sane team members left! GOOD.
AND they have to go on a mission with just the two of them. Into the deep end, considering we really haven’t seen them interact directly before.
First “Daniel Jackson” from Teal’c!! (Incidentally, I think we can assume Teal’c is very very focused on “do NOT let Daniel Jackson die while offworld under my protection,” right now.)
Daniel instinctively moving to help the new leper-girl they see unconscious and getting mad about her abandonment is correct Daniel Jackson Behavior. More of that, please, Daniel.
...Oh, yeah, Daniel and Teal’c are not a good team right now. Teal’c is very focused on fulfilling his duty, accomplishing their objectives, and not endangering either the mission or themselves (again, I think that’s about Daniel, thought he didn’t say so), and is not up for arguing. Daniel has seen a helpless person in need by the side of the road, and Teal’c telling him what to do just activates his contrarian streak. Also, they have no built up trust yet, not really. They’re completely out of sync... which is how Daniel can get abducted by the cavemen while Teal’c is trying to fend them off and doesn’t notice.
Jack, his mind 80% gone, clinging to shreds of coherency induced by the dangerous level of sedative he begged for: “Experiment... on me. Use me.” HE’S STILL TRYING TO PROTECT HIS PEOPLE.
HAVE I MENTIONED JACK O’NEILL IS THE BEST.
(Also, fighting to retain his self and save others while being driven mad is distressingly on brand for Colonel Jack O’Neill and we WILL be seeing this behavior again. JACK.)
The ruler of the Land of Light is a PUNK and his clothes are RIDICULOUS and I hope Teal’c punches him.
Aw, no, he knocked out the guards instead, because the leader ran away from Teal’c like the punk he is.
The prosthetic caveman eyebrows are very funny. I forgot about them.
Oh GOSH. Teal’c’s actions after losing Daniel were 1) go to the Land of Light people and ask them to help him find Daniel. 2) When they refused to help at all, take blood samples by force. 3) Return to Earth and give Dr. Frasier said blood sample. 4) Go to Jack’s cell (again, Jack is barely cognizant) and immediately confess his fault in losing Daniel.
That... that’s a meta in itself about how Teal’c’s mind works, and his ethics and honor and decision-making process at this point in his character. Even without dialogue points like his insistence that “It is not a curse. It is a disease,” because Teal’c hates superstition, and his anger at people who are in their own way living—as he used to!—in a culture of cruelty born from despair. It just. It’s a lot.
Janet, trying to explain her scientific breakthrough to Jack (barely articulate) and Teal’c (knows no science): Tough crowd huh
Oh NO Teal’c is gently moving Jack to lie down on the bed before leaving him, while they wait for the treatment to work? Teal’c is PUTTING A BLANKET OVER HIM? I wasn’t prepared for that.
And of COURSE he proceeds to sit outside Jack’s cell door, meditating, until Jack yells for him. Where else would he be.
“Lucy! I’m ho-ome!” Another classic exchange. (And I’m trying to decide if Teal’c is trying to make joke, re: “You may still be confused.” He could have been! Hi poker face is too good to tell.)
Okay I KNOW they were in a literal plague-outbreak situation and probably didn’t have any able bodies but you’d still think they could have sent SOMEBODY to go pick up Daniel from caveman-land a little earlier? Or maybe it WAS pretty early and they didn’t show it well, I dunno. I just did not feel the urgency i would have expected here.
Daniel’s first conscious word was “Jack.” Yeah, that’s typical. (I say this with affection.)
Teal’c was carrying his glasses. When did he even pick them up? I don’t know! But here we are again with the acts of service!
SG-1, repeatedly and vehemently whenever they come to a post-Goa’uld world: “WE ARE NOT GODS! NO, REALLY. STOP WITH THE KNEELING.”
Next time for SG-1: Sam’s Crazy Ex!
I haven’t actually watched that one before, so should be interesting.

Thanks to @ichooseviolence for tagging me!
RULES: List eight shows for your followers to get to know you better!
Game of Thrones: This should go without saying, given that it’s successor HOTD single-handedly brought me back to this madhouse. Three Seasons of some of the greatest television ever made, an alright fourth season followed by four seasons of pure, concentrated dog piss (of which I subjected myself only to S5 and 6).
Deadliest Warrior: If not for a subpar third (and final) season, this show would be 100% GOATED. The smack talking between the experts, the weapons demonstrations, the acted out fights at the end, all of it *chef’s kiss*. The DW discussion groups on Facebook were a major stomping ground of mine, and getting to interact with the experts on the DW Experts discussion group was a highlight of my teenage years.
The Wire: Only seen Seasons 1 and 2, still need to complete my watch through of all five seasons, but DAMN is The Wire good (also RIP Lance Reddick aka Lt. Daniels).
Yugioh 5Ds!: This and VRAINS are the only of the Yugioh anime that I’ve watched all the way through thus far. For all the jokes about “card games on motorcycles,” 5Ds is unironically amazing.
Justice League/Justice League Unlimited: Maybe some of the greatest children’s programming ever made, and you don’t even need to be a child to enjoy it or appreciate the stories (Wonderbat and Question x Huntress are S-tier).
Stargate SG-1 & Atlantis: Before Christopher Judge voiced Kratos, before Jason Momoa was Khal Drogo and Aquaman, there was Teal’c of Chulak and Ronon Dex. Col. Jack O’Neill is an American Hero.
Merlin: Watched it with my younger sister and loved every minute of it; it’s fun to see how far many of the actors from the show have come (esp. Tom Hopper aka Sir Percival).
Berserk: This one isn’t necessarily a show per se. There’s been two anime adaptations of the manga: the 1997 adaptation of the Golden Age Arc, and the Golden Age trilogy movies along with the 2016-17 Anime (DO NOT subject yourself to the 16-17 anime if you value your eyeballs). God willing we’ll get a proper adaptation someday, maybe when the Manga is completed.
Gonna tag @lemonhemlock, @aegonette, @cesarescabinet, @alicentcole, @chaoticcoffeequeen, @notbloodraven and @miqaelababa

A New Reality
Jack O’Neill x Reader
Word Count: 4831
Summary: You find yourself unexpectedly in a parallel universe, the perfect time for you and Jack to have a long overdue conversation.
Warnings/Content: Fluff, AU, mentions of serious injury.
Tumblr media
You had been looking over the research you’d been doing in the hyperdrive upgrades for the Odyssey, it was annoying as hell, but you were making some small progress each day and maybe that was worth it.
It had been hard since you took a civilian position within the SGC, but honestly, you never would have made it as far as you had if it hadn’t been for the now General O’Neill. You worked with Sam in the lab next to hers, with her going off world, you were able to fill in the gaps and ease her workload from time to time, something she appreciated greatly.
You’d grown a little closer with Jack in the time since your retirement from active service, he felt somewhat responsible, but you continued to assure him that none of what happened was his fault. He brought you cake and coffee when he was around which was nice, it always seemed to be when you were tired and in need of a break. The only problem with it all, was your developing feelings for him.
You tried to supress it, tried to stay as far away from him as you could, but eventually he got curious and that was when he found out just how much you were struggling with the change. In truth, you would never have made it as far as you had without him.
The calculations you were looking over began to blur into one long string of symbols, you were getting tired. You inhaled deeply, stretching your neck and feeling the familiar twinge in your lower back. You tried to rub it soothingly, but that action was working less and less as the days went on.
Just as you swallowed a couple of painkillers and thought you saw a flash of white light. You didn’t think much of it, there were experiments being conducted all over the place.
You continued to read over the notes on your desk for a while when a soft knock came at your door. You looked up to see the one person you’d rather not have seen that day.
‘Hey.’ You said, surprised. ‘What are you doing here?’
General O’Neill looked very dapper in his formal uniform, you’d always thought it and told him once when you were at a boring party and trying to make it fun for each other. It never meant anything more than a friendly compliment.
‘I stopped by to see Landry.’ He said stepping into the lab and shoving his hands in his pockets a little awkwardly. ‘I think there was a memo that was supposed to…’ he paused looking at the mess of papers that surrounded you. ‘Never mind.’
‘Yeah, sorry sir, I might have gotten a memo, but you’d never know it in this place.’ You chuckled. ‘Hey, did you see that bright light?’
    ‘When?’
‘Just a little before you walked in.’
‘No, I didn’t see anything.’ He gave you a quizzical look, before staring down at his shoes. ‘Uh, so, I actually just stopped by to ask if you’d thought any more on what I asked you?’
You frowned, not really sure what he was talking about. ‘What do you mean?’
‘About dinner. With me.’ Why was he being so weird about it? You had dinner together all the time.
‘Oh, erm, yeah, I guess so.’ You shrugged, picking up your pen to mark something on your notes. ‘I’m free next week if you want?’
Jack seemed surprised and it was a little jarring. ‘You’re saying yes?’
‘Yeah, sure.’ You chuckled. Maybe he was having a laugh, some joke was about to follow or something. ‘Why wouldn’t I say yes?’
‘No, I just thought you would tell me you wanted to think about it some more.’ He stepped a little further into your lab, regarding you gently.
‘What would I need to think about? It’s just dinner, we have it all the time.’ You marked something else a little further down the page.
Jack frowned and leaned on his forearms over the desk. ‘What are you talking about?’
Your eyes shot up to his. ‘What?’
‘Y/N, we’ve never had dinner together.’ He said. ‘Unless you count when we were off world in some village-‘
‘Sir, we had dinner three weeks ago when you were in town.’ You were getting a little tired of the joke now.
‘Why do you keep calling me “sir”?’
‘Force of habit.’ You frowned. ‘Are you feeling okay?’
You thought it best to get him to go to the infirmary, clearly something was wrong, he wasn’t acting like himself. You grabbed the wheels of your chair and rolled around the desk towards the phone to call for medical assistance.
‘What the hell happened to you?’ Jack suddenly jumped up seeing the wheelchair.
‘Okay, this isn’t funny anymore, I’m calling the infirmary.’ It was one thing to joke around, but he knew you were still sensitive since the accident.
‘Did I miss something? Why the hell are you in a wheelchair?’
‘Because I’m paralysed Jack!’ You yelled, feeling the anger in your chest. ‘And you know that. I’m done joking around now, I’m calling a doctor to come and get you.’
It seemed he had nothing more to say and you reached the phone on your wall to call the infirmary. That was when a familiar face came running into view, making your heart stop.
‘Janet?’ You breathed. Seeing the face of the woman who patched you up God knows how many times, was like a hammer to the heart.
‘Everything okay? I heard yelling.’ She said and you thought you’d cry there and then.
‘I don’t understand,’ the tears had already started building. ‘How can you be here?’
‘What are you talking about? Y/N, what are you doing in a wheelchair?’
Dr Lee suddenly came hurtling around the corner a little out of breath. ‘Hey, I’ve been around the other labs and this is the last one… Dr Fraiser?’ He seemed shocked as well. He looked at you and saw your tears was starting to pour down your cheeks.
‘Lee, what the hell is going on?’
‘I’m sorry, Y/N, but it looks like it’s just me and you.’
‘What did you do?’ Your voice stuttered over the words.
‘I think we might be in a parallel universe.’ He said.
You nodded, feeling all matter of rage filling up inside you. You moved your chair back around your desk, almost laughing.
‘Someone wanna tell me what’s going on here?’ Jack spoke up.
‘Uh,’ Dr Lee went to explain. ‘Well, it seems the experiment I was doing went a little wrong-‘
‘A little wrong!’ You yelled. ‘That was what that flash of light was, wasn’t it?’
‘Yeah… yeah, that was me. Sorry about that.’
‘You realise I’m seconds away from shooting you, but unfortunately, I need you to reverse whatever you did and get us the hell out of here!’ All your anger was focused on Lee, but you knew it was because of everything that had just occurred moments ago.
‘Yeah, that might be a problem.’ Lee half laughed, but you didn’t find anything about this situation funny and glared at him. ‘Okay, look, I don’t exactly know how we got here, I’m going to need some time to fix this.’
    ‘How much time?’ You growled.
    ‘Well, it’s hard to say-‘
‘Just get on with it.’ You sighed, not wanting to hear anything else.
‘Right.’ Dr Lee left with Fraiser who told him that Landry would have to be informed.
You didn’t dare look up, you knew Jack was still standing there, looking at you, probably feeling sorry for you, you couldn’t bear it. You went to get on with your work, hoping he would just leave, but you never heard footsteps leaving your lab, rather, you heard them getting closer.
‘What happened?’ Jack asked, quietly behind you.
You cleared your throat, not really wanting to answer. You turned your chair to face him.
‘Clearly your y/n isn’t like this, so it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
Jack gave a slight grimace and stepped around the desk closer to you, but you couldn’t back away, there was no room.
‘No.’ He shook his head. ‘The y/n that I know is not in a wheelchair. She’s a brilliant scientist and she’s someone I… I’m sure you get what I’m saying.’ You did, but it didn’t make anything easier. ‘I don’t know what I’m like in your universe, but it’s obvious that you and I are a little closer there. Does he know what happened to you?’
Your eyes were still shedding tears and you hated it, just the way he was looking at you got under your skin.
‘Yeah.’ You whispered. ‘You’re the only reason I’m still here. I think you know what I mean by that.’ You took a deep breath and looked away from his sorrowful eyes. ‘Look, I don’t know what our relationship is like here, but I’m sure Dr Lee will figure out the problem soon, so there’s no point dwelling on this.’
Jack breathed out a laugh. ‘Oh, I don’t know, if he’s anything like ours, he might need a little help. In more ways than one, some would say.’ At least that pulled a smile from you, no matter how small. ‘That’s nice to see.’
    ‘What?’
‘You don’t smile much, especially not at me.’ Jack admitted, making you curious. You wiped your wet cheeks and sniffed a little.
‘You asked her, me, to dinner.’ You frowned a little.
‘Yeah.’ Jack chuckled. ‘I didn’t really expect you to say yes though, you’ve been stone walling me for months now.’
‘Why?’ The question came out before you could stop it.
Before Jack could answer, General Landry and a couple of airmen came rushing it. ‘Jack, didn’t expect you to be here.’
Jack stood a little straighter, shoving his hands in his pockets once again. ‘Yeah, I just stopped by on my way to you, but clearly there are more pressing matters at hand.’
‘I’ll say.’ Landry seemed a little more gruff than your one. ‘Lee says you guys are from a parallel universe.’
‘Yeah,’ you half laughed. ‘Hopefully the problem will be fixed soon, but you know how things can be in this place.’
‘I do hope so, it seems you and our y/n swapped places, we could do with her back, no offense.’
‘No, I get it.’ You nodded, you really did understand, you’d had your fair share of trouble with other universes after all. ‘If there’s anything I can do, any research she was working on, I’d be more than happy to lend a hand.’
‘That won’t be necessary, but thank you.’ Landry then gestured to the airmen. ‘I’m sure you understand, I’ll be posting a couple of airmen outside the lab, just in case.’
You were just about to tell him you understood, not that you really wanted to do much to escape the SGC anyway, but Jack got there first.
‘It’s alright, Hank, I’ll stay with her, keep an eye on things for you.’
You weren’t exactly sure of why or what he meant by that, but you accepted it anyway. Landry, however, gave Jack a questioning look, to no response other than Jack’s usual stoic expression.
    ‘You’re sure?’ Landry asked.
‘Yes.’ Jack said, firmly. ‘We’ll catch up once this is over.’
Landry gave a small grunt and left your lab with the airmen, but you had a feeling they would still be posted close by. Jack turned back to face you, sitting back casually against a desk behind the one you were working on.
‘What was that?’ You asked, curiously.
‘Oh nothing,’ Jack shook his head. ‘We don’t always see eye to eye.’
‘Really?’ You said, surprised. ‘The Landry I know has a bit of a soft spot for you.’
Jack gave you a slight smile. ‘So, in your universe… are we…?’ Jack gestured between you and you got the idea.
‘No.’ You suddenly said. ‘No, we’re… we’re friends, nothing more I’m afraid.’ His head tilted a little and you realised how you had phrased it. ‘I mean, we’re close, but there’s nothing going on between us. There can’t be really.’
    ‘Why not?’
‘Well…’ you suddenly felt a little warm under your skin. ‘I was… it was against regulation.’
    ‘You’re in the Air Force?’
‘I was.’ You said it much quieter than you wanted to and suddenly needed a distraction.
‘So, you’re not anymore?’ You had a feeling where this was going. ‘And you said we go to dinner all the time.’
‘Yeah, as friends.’ You sighed, exasperated. ‘Besides, you wouldn’t want to go out with me anyway.’
    ‘Why not?’
‘Well, because of… this.’ You gestured to the chair and it only had Jack frowning a little.
He didn’t say anything for a moment, instead looking around your lab, before eventually turning back to you.
‘Why has she, the other me, been stone walling you?’ You asked, drawing his attention away from the chair. ‘What did I do?’
Jack gave a soft smile. ‘You didn’t do anything.’ He said, but would need a little more of a push to give a real answer.
‘So, what happened?’ You pressed the subject.
Again, Jack chose to remain quiet for a moment. ‘I didn’t take my chance when I had it and you… found someone else.’ You could always read his expressions easily and despite trying to keep his face calm, there were small signs that he was growing more and more uncomfortable.
‘If I’m seeing someone else, then why are you still asking me to dinner?’ Your frowned, not understanding, the Jack you knew would respect the fact that you found someone else and back off.
‘You’re not seeing him anymore.’ Jack’s face twitched a little as the inner rage you recognised sometimes began to make an appearance. Jack cleared his throat. ‘He wasn’t good to you, you called me for help one night and I…’ he couldn’t finish the sentence and you had an idea of what might have happened, making you shift uncomfortably. ‘You had every right to blame me. I wasn’t there when you needed me and… you don’t trust a lot of people anyway, but especially not me anymore. I tried to help you afterwards, got all the best doctors, but you…’ Jack let his eyes tear away from you as he struggled to get through to the next part of the story. ‘The only thing you ever talk to me about is work now, everything else is a little harder for you. I guess it’s your way of protecting yourself. It’s one of the reasons everyone around here is a little off with me. I don’t know what you said to them, but they blame me as well.’
You didn’t know what to say. You’d never really seen Jack like this, but then he wasn’t your Jack, so you had no idea if he would even want you to say anything anyway.
‘You said you missed your chance?’ You cleared your throat.
Jack nodded. ‘There was a moment when, uh… I guess I was scared. You never used to be scared of anything and I didn’t know if I could keep up with that.’
‘Really? You couldn’t keep up with me?’ You chuckled. ‘That’s the problem I have with you these days.’
‘I mean the chair might have something to do with that.’ Jack jumped at the chance to joke with you, making you chuckle a little harder. ‘I can’t remember the last time you laughed like that.’
You let your smile remain faintly as you tried not to think about what was really going on here.
‘It’s your turn.’ Jack said, gently. ‘I told you my sob story, let’s hear yours.’
You swallowed a little nervously, but he was right, it was a fair trade. You cleared your throat and thought back to the day it happened.
‘It was a standard recon,’ you began, watching the way he listened intently to you. ‘Everything was fine until some rebel Jaffa turned up and it got a little nasty. We ran to the gate, I was the last to make it out of the treeline… I told you I had your back while you protected Daniel as he put the address in to get back home. I heard the gate activate and started running. You were covering me, I was only a few metres away and shouted for you to get through the gate. You hesitated, but stepped through anyway.’ You paused for a moment as you felt the familiar flare in your lower back. ‘I got caught just before I made it to the gate. You radioed to find out where I was, I could talk much, let alone walk, but I crawled as fast as I could and you held the wormhole open for me, dragged me through as soon as a part of me appeared on this side.’ You swallowed back a lump in your throat once again. ‘There was nothing they could do. I had four surgeries to try and fix the nerve damage, but there was no fixing what the weapon had done. You blamed yourself, telling me over and over how you should have been the last man out, but you couldn’t have known I was going to get hit, let alone that it would paralyse me from the legs down.’
Jack inhaled deeply and tore his gaze away once again. You began fiddling with the corner of your notes for something else to do other than look at him.
‘Look, even if any of it was your fault, which it wasn’t,’ you continued after a few moments of tense silence. ‘You more than made up for it afterwards. You got me through recovery and rehab, helped me when no one else could, gave me a reason to carry on… I should have told you how felt then, but… I guess we both missed our chances.’ You breathed out a laugh, not really finding any of it funny.
‘Yeah.’ Jack exhaled. There was another moment of silence. ‘So, where do you wanna go?’
    ‘What do you mean?’
‘For dinner.’ Jack’s soft smirk began to make an appearance. ‘You said yes and we don’t really know how long Lee is going to take with reversing whatever he did.’
You felt your chest stutter slightly. ‘I don’t think I’ll be allowed to leave the base.’
‘Well, you’ll be with me, so you know it’ll be safe,’ Jack began to reason. ‘And there’s a lot of people who have been waiting for me to mess something up, so if you are going to run, you’ve got a good scapegoat.’
You rolled your eyes. ‘Running’s not really my forte these days.’ You liked that it made him smile a little, but you still felt quite sensitive about the whole thing. ‘Look, you don’t have to feel sorry for me or pity me, I get enough of that-‘
‘Pity you?’ You should have predicted another flare of anger, Jack hated that. ‘Is that what you really think? Because from what you’ve told me about the me in your universe, I don’t feel sorry for you. You said I was there for you after you got hurt, you know I’m not good at… feelings and stuff. It just seems like I might have had an ulterior motive.’
    ‘Like what?’
Jack didn’t answer, but he didn’t really need to, you both knew the truth. You looked away at anything else for a moment.
‘I don’t know if it’s a good idea.’ You finally said. ‘I don’t want to make things difficult for anyone.’
Jack’s gaze slid to the floor as he sighed in defeat. ‘Okay.’ He said, quietly. ‘What about coffee? You drink coffee in your universe?’
    ‘Course.’
    ‘What about cake?’
You chuckled. ‘You know I like cake.’
‘Chocolate cake with strawberries on top because you think it’ll somehow counteract the sugar, which we both know it doesn’t.’ Jack knew you like the back of his hand. You didn’t know what to say. ‘There was a time before all this that you talked to me about stuff… anyway, I’ll grab what we need if you can be trusted to stay put?’
‘No, I’m going to start sprints by means of escape.’ You said, sarcastically, making Jack smile and you had a good feeling that he hadn’t done that in a while.
‘Okay, don’t go anywhere.’ Jack stood up and slowly wandered out of your lab, looking back at you once before disappearing down the corridor.
You wondered about the wisdom of entertaining him, but he was insistent and you couldn’t resist the opportunity to sit with him a while without consequences. In your universe, you’d gotten stuck in this strange mid-zone where dinner, laughing and weird private jokes were shared, but anything beyond that, no matter how much it was wanted, was just a step too much. This way you could indulge for a moment or two and maybe relieve some of the pressure.
You continued to work until Jack came back with cake and coffee as promised. He shed his jacket and pulled over a stool, you couldn’t help but notice the small differences, your Jack had deep smile lines around his eyes, this one smiled as if it was a long forgotten concept.
You spoke about the difference between your universes and they were extensive to say the least. Jack was thinking of properly retiring from service, thinking it would be best for everyone if he wasn’t around as much, he’d made some mistakes and trying to make up for it just seemed to make things worse.
‘I’m sure people don’t hate you as much as you think.’ You told him, finishing the last of your cake.
‘I think they should hate me more sometimes.’ Jack admitted, you knew he hadn’t quite meant to say it the way it came out, but it hurt you all the same.
‘Jack,’ you reached over to hold his hand, it felt the same as your Jack’s hand. ‘You’re a good man, you need to remember that. I know you find it difficult to believe sometimes, but you are and it doesn’t matter what universe we’re in, I’ll always think that.’
Jack let his eyes linger with yours for a moment, you could feel his thumb tracing over your knuckles and you wondered if this was in fact the first time you’d held his hand in this universe. It felt right though, it felt natural and like you should always be here, holding hands, staring at each other in a vague hope that you would immediately understand the other.
‘Thank you.’ Jack said, quietly and at a depth that hit you just right. He noticed, you knew he would, he always did and it was often your cue to pull away, but something about this Jack had you holding on to whatever was left of the moment shared between you.
His dark eyes fluttered briefly to your lips and you could have sworn yours did the same. Jack suddenly tore his gaze away and cleared his throat. You pulled your hand away and the moment was shattered.
You both recomposed yourselves and chuckled at the new set awkwardness.
‘Look,’ you said, getting Jack’s attention back. ‘I don’t know how the me in this universe feels about you, but I think I know something that might help her.’ Jack sat up a little straighter and gave you every indication that he wanted to hear what you had to say, he wanted to help you. ‘When I was struggling to deal everything that happened, you came over and sat with me for a while, it was really quiet for a long time and I was just getting used to the feeling of just being there with you,’ Jack’s mouth twitched into a brief smile. ‘You held me and said, “I don’t know how you’re feeling and I consider myself very lucky, I’m trying not to understand because I know you wouldn’t want me to know how this feels.” And you were right, I never want you to know how it feels to live like this.’
Jack watched you for another weighted moment, he let a deep breath go.
‘How do I help you?’ He asked, it was almost a beg and you felt a whip of pain in your chest.
‘I can’t give you that answer,’ you shook your head. ‘But there is someone who can. It sounds to me like she’s angry, maybe she just needs someone to listen to that.’
    ‘You mean yell at me?’
‘Yeah, I guess I do.’ You breathed a laugh out. ‘From what you’ve said, it sounds like I need to get some things off my chest, but maybe those things will hurt you. I can’t imagine anything worse than hurting you, Jack. I think you need to decide whether you can handle what I have to say, it might be worse than you think.’
‘I can handle it.’ Jack said, determined.
‘You need to be sure you can.’ You told him more seriously.
Jack held your gaze and you felt another wonderfully suffocating moment take over. Jack slowly reached out to hold your hand.
‘I’m not good at this kind of stuff,’ he started. ‘But if I’m anything like your Jack, I’d like you to be honest about how you feel about me.’
‘I can’t.’ You whispered, feeling a lump in your throat.
    ‘Why not?’
‘Because you deserve someone better than a cripple.’ The tears began building and you weren’t sure you’d be able to stop them.
‘From the sounds of it, that’s the last word I’d use to describe you.’ He was better at this than he gave himself credit for.
    ‘I’m scared.’ You confessed.
    ‘Of what?’
‘That I’ve misread all the signs.’ You had to laugh at yourself. ‘That you were just being a good friend.’
‘Well, like I said, if I know me, and I do, there’s definitely an ulterior motive.’ Jack gave you a small smile and it made you laugh.
    ‘Okay.’
    ‘You promise you’ll tell me?’
‘Only if you promise to help me.’
    Jack nodded. ‘Deal.’
It was a miraculous feat of timing as Lee came bursting into your lab, panting slightly with two Airmen either side, barely even breathing heavily.
‘I think I got it.’ He struggled out. ‘I figured out how to get us home. Oh my god, it is a long way to run.’
‘Your lab is literally next door.’ You said, wiping away any sign of emotion.
‘Okay, just give me two minutes and I’ll get us back.’ Lee held his side and you and Jack tried not to laugh at him.
Eventually you and Jack were left alone again as Lee disappeared off back to his lab. Jack leaned back running his hands over his face.
‘So, this is it?’ He said, not looking entirely comfortable with that fact.
‘Yeah, I guess so.’ You were a little sad to be leaving, but there was no real way you could stay. ‘I hope things work out for you.’
‘I hope so too.’ Jack said, satisfied in some way that things would be okay. ‘And I hope you get everything you want. You deserve to be happy.’
    ‘Thanks.’ You smiled.
Jack’s dark eyes looked over your face once more, as if committing it to memory. He nodded once and stood up, putting his uniform jacket back on, buttoning it slowly, dragging the moment out for as long as he could.
He turned and walked towards the doorway, turning again to face you.
‘It’s been a pleasure.’ He said.
You smiled, but it felt like a goodbye, which was silly, you were only going back to your own universe with your Jack waiting for you. You didn’t belong here, but the way he looked at you told you, you belonged with him. In every universe.
There was another flash of bright light as Lee managed to reverse whatever he had done, and Jack was gone.
You took a deep breath and wiped any remaining tears that may have been lingering.
    ‘Hey.’
You felt your chest jolt as you got a fright at the noise from the door. Jack was there again, in his much more relaxed green uniform and looking at you as if unsure if it was really you.
    ‘Jack.’ You breathed.
‘I’m assuming you’re in the right universe?’ Jack realised that was a sentence he never thought he’d say.
    ‘I think so.’ You smiled.
‘Well, good, that other you was very… defensive.’ He said, wandering into your lab.
‘She’s been through a lot.’ You frowned, remembering what the other Jack had said. You took a deeper breath and looked up at your friend. ‘Can we talk for a moment?’
‘Sure.’ Jack pulled a stool over and leaned on his forearms, patiently waiting for you to speak.
‘I have something I want to tell you.’

Chapter 6
The next morning Jack woke up early with Sam’s still naked body pressed into him with her arm draped across his body. He was loving the feel of her skin against his but he faced a problem. The call of nature.
He quickly and quietly managed to extract himself from her side and made it into the bathroom. As he was relieving himself he happened to glance at his reflection in the mirror behind the sink. He had fresh scratches on his back, battle scars of a very different kind than he was used to. But damn if he didn’t have fun getting them, he grinned. He could live with these ones. Jack pulled on some boxers and a t-shirt and made his way into the kitchen. It was Saturday morning. Jack remembered once telling Sam he would have to make her his famous pancakes sometime.
He was just about finished making breakfast when Sam padded into the kitchen wearing one of his T-shirts that just barely brushed the tops of her thighs. “You’re up,” he smiled when he saw her “I hope you’re hungry, I might have gone a little overboard on the food.”
“Oh, I’m hungry alright,” she said as she walked up to him grabbing his butt with appreciation.
“Samantha…”
Sam backed up to the counter “Come over here, O’Neill. That’s an order.”
Jack flicked off the griddle “Ma’am, yes Ma’am” he drawled. Allowing himself to be pulled into a kiss. Jack picked her up onto the counter where he soon realized Sam was naked under his shirt.
This time was slower, yet more passionate, as they very carefully abandoned the kitchen in favor of the bedroom. Jack took his time getting to know every little thing about Sam. Committing her to memory.
Sam was certain she had never had a lover like him before. This time she allowed herself to relax and summit herself to his will. With Jack it wasn’t just sex, it was making love. She had always thought that terminology to be trite and unnecessarily flowery, but now. Now it was the only term she could think of to describe what they did. The myriad of feelings and emotions he ignited in her. She relished in the sensation as he touched and tasted his way around her body. He was driving her crazy. “Jack” she gasped.
Later as they lay in bed, Sam rolled to her side to look at Jack, “I’m hungry.”
“Hey, isn’t that my line?”
“What can I say, you know how to work up an appetite.”
By the time they got to the breakfast Jack had prepared the beer pancakes were ice cold. “Got a cookie sheet?”
“Humm, yeah, I’m a single guy with a sweet tooth.”
“Single, huhh?”
“Not so single”
“That’s better. No, I was just going to warm these up for us since you were sweet enough to make them.”
“You were pretty sweet yourself, Samantha. I’m glad you stayed.”
“Me too, I don’t think I’ve ever had sex like that!” She grinned.
“Yeah, we’re pretty damn great together aren’t we? But more than that Sam, thanks for putting me in my place last night. I have a feeling you’re going to need to every once in a while. I’m sorry in advance.”
“I look forward to it, Sir.”
“Sir? Do you see a uniform?” He pointed to the boxers he had on that were decorated with little donuts. Sam let out a giggle. “But seriously Sam, when we transfer. This,” He gestured between them “is going to get a lot harder. I’ve been there. If there is anything I’ve learned, it’s that we have to use the time we have together wisely, and not just in bed. As fun as that is.”
“I hear you Jack. I want to make the best of our time too.”
They kissed slowly, releasing each other as the oven pre-heat timer went off. Jack turned to look out his kitchen window, “I’m going to miss it here.”
Sam frowned as she slid a tray of pancakes into the oven, “Maybe you can get a place on the outskirts of the capital. It would be more of a drive but at least it would be quiet.”
“Hammond is letting me take over his place. He wants to be closer to his granddaughters.”
“Oh? And where is his place?”
“Walking distance from Barcroft Park.”
“Wow.”
“Yeah, traffic is going to be nuts, especially on game days.”
“Well I guess that depends on what side of the park you’re on.”
“Yeah, I’m going to have to call him about the details,” Jack turned back to the window, “D’oh!”
“Jack?”
“I just realized that means selling everything. Not just my house, but also my truck, my motorcycle…” he huffed.
“Your cabin?”
“Watch your mouth! Nah, I’ll never sell that, it’s been in my family for years. Besides that, I’m kinda thinking ‘love-nest’ for the two of us.”
“Love-nest huh?” She giggled.
“Unless you have a problem with that.”
“Well I can’t help out with the house or the truck, but I can certainly help you out with the motorcycle. I’d hate for you not to have anything to ride when you come to visit me,” she grinned.
“Oh, baby, I like the way you think. Humm, if we do that then maybe we won’t be spending as much time at the cabin as I’d hoped,” he frowned a bit.
“And of course you know that means that you have to take time off to sign over the papers too,” Sam said, smiling wickedly.
“Damn, I love you” he smiled as he pulled her into a kiss.
“Ok, so beer pancakes aren’t half bad after all, it’s nice having real maple syrup with them too,” Sam said as they finished breakfast.
“So what do you want to do today?”
“No idea. I’ve probably got laundry to do and I thought about doing some grocery shopping.”
“You know maybe we should go to the zoo, I haven’t been there in years.”
“Colorado Springs doesn’t have a zoo.”
“Wow, and I thought I didn’t get out of the mountain much. Yes, Samantha there is a zoo. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, in fact. And it’s actually quite nice. We used to get season passes when Charlie was little. I’ve even taken Cassie a couple of times over the years. How did you not know about the zoo?”
Sam shrugged “Pete suggested it once but I didn’t think we had one so the conversation didn’t go very far.”
“Well lucky for you, I’m not Pete. I have connections.” There was a hint of pride in his tone.
“I think you’re forgetting we have a hockey game to go to.“
“I didn’t forget, that’s next Saturday night. What I really need to do is get you up to my cabin.”
“You know I was actually thinking about that.”
Jack grinned, “You were, were you?”
“You’re bad. As much as I want to spend time together, just the two of us. The truth is that we’re all going our separate directions and I was kind of wondering how you felt about inviting the boys along to the cabin as well.”
Jack regarded her for a second, he was definitely torn. Of course he knew how much Teal’c and Daniel both meant to the two of them but at the same time he really wanted Sam all to himself. Finally he came up with a compromise “How about this Sammie, you and I go up and spend a week alone, no distractions. We get a glorious week just the two of us and we can fish and hike or whatever to our hearts content and then we can invite the boys up. And if at that time, you are willing,we can tell the guys about us and our transfers. Deal?”
“A full week with Jack O’Neill all to myself? We might not leave the cabin.”
His eyebrows raised on their own accord, “Alright then, I’ll make the arrangements.”
“Ready to go?” Jack asked as he finished cleaning up the kitchen a bit.
“Sure.”
************
Sam couldn’t remember the last time she had been to the zoo but she knew she would never forget this trip. It seemed that Jack had made acquaintances, if not actual friends, with a number of the veteran-staff over the years. It was also clear that he hadn’t been there for a while.
That was especially evident when they went to the giraffe feeding station at lunch time. Jack insisted it was the best time of day to go and he was of course right. When they arrived the woman at the nearly empty giraffe feeding station greeted him as “Colonel O’Neill!”
“Hey there Betsy! Good to see you! This is Sam. Sam, Betsy. And would you knock it off with the Colonel crap, it’s Brig. General now. But don’t start with that either, it’s my day off.”
“Well congratulations on the promotion, Jack. I guess it’s been a while. I haven’t seen you around much, where’s your niece?”
“College, work, she’s a busy girl these days.”
“Time has a way of changing things.”
“No kidding.”
“So Sam, how do you know our Jack here.”
“Oh I…”
Jack cut in, “Sam is an astrophysicist on base. She’s also Cassie’s favorite Aunt.”
“Oh sweetie, I was so sorry to hear about your sister.”
Sam didn’t feel like correcting her, “Did you know, Janet?”
“Not well, she came here with Cassie and Jack a couple of times a few years ago. She seemed nice.”
“She was the best.” Sam smiled sadly. Jack cut in, “We all miss her, Sam.” He said tenderly, but then looked around at the giraffe enclosure and now completely empty feeding area “So where is my buddy anyway?”
“Oh, he’s a little distracted today, Juliet is in heat, she’s inside with the baby. He might come over for you though.”
“Baby?”
“Oh yeah, Romeo is a daddy now. Good heavens Jack it has been a while, she’s a little over a year old now.”
“Yeah, new job, dealing with some stuff, you know how it goes.”
“Sure I do,” she looked at him a little oddly but shook it off quickly, “So, Jack. Does this mean you’re dating again?”
“Huh, yeah, you could say that. Sam and I finally decided to give it a shot.”
“Finally?” She said smirking at Jack, then turned to Sam, “Well it’s nice to meet anyone that can get this one off his roof.”
“Oh come on, Betsy that’s enough of that!” Jack jumped up onto the side of the fence, “Romeo O’ Romeo wherefore art thou Romeo!” Sam wasn’t sure what was funnier, Jack referring to a giraffe as his “buddy” or the fact that he just quoted Shakespeare as loudly as he could.
“I think that did it, Jack! I think I see him coming now.” Betsy said, handing him an extra large bunch of lettuce. Sam could have sworn the large animal actually picked up his pace when he saw Jack.
“Hey there big guy,” Jack said to him as he came up to take a piece of lettuce from him. “The man keeping you away from your girl huh, big guy? I know that story.” Romeo nudged towards the bunch of lettuce in his other hand, Jack took another leaf and handed it out to Sam, “Come on, he’s a big sweetie”
Sam took the lettuce and stepped up to the giraffe. Romeo stuck his long tongue out to wrap around the lettuce and several of her fingers “gahhh, yuck” she said with a smile on her face.
Then quicker than she could have imagined he wrapped his tongue under her chin and up her cheek. Sam grimmised as she stepped back from the feeding platform. Jack laughed “Hey big guy, she’s taken!” he said chuckling.
Sam couldn’t help it, as slimy and gross as it was to be licked by a giraffe it was also pretty hilarious. She broke down laughing along with him.
“Oh he got you good, Sam” Betsy chortled as she handed her a disinfectant wipe.
“Thank you,” Sam said, still chuckling.
They continued their trip around the zoo. It wasn’t as busy as Sam would have expected for a Saturday which actually worked out in their favor. Jack had a number of Acquaintances amongst the senior staff which only added to the experience. They all loved Jack.
As they walked along, Sam spoke, “I keep thinking about what Hammond said about my dad being happy about us getting together. I always had the impression that he wouldn’t have liked anyone for me. Except for something he said just before he died.”
Jack knew exactly where this was going “Oh yeah?”
“He told me not to let rules get in the way. Like he knew.”
“That’s because he did.”
“So he did know about us?”
“Yeah, we had quite the little discussion about it actually.”
“Why didn’t he just come out and say so? He was being so cryptic and I saw you with… and all I could think to do was tell him that I was already happy with Pete. He didn’t want to hear it but I kept insisting… I just wanted him to believe I was going to be happy.”
Jack puffed out his cheeks before letting out a long breath, “Yeah, he wanted to let you make your own life choices. All he wanted was for you to be happy.”
“I get that, it’s just… what did you two talk about anyway?”
“Oh come on Carter, you don’t want to hear about all that.”
“Huhh, yeah, I kinda do. Did you tell him about us?”
“Didn’t have to.”
“Go on.”
“Well first off he just wanted my opinion of Pete. Then he kinda blindsided me by saying he knew you and I had feelings for each other. He had put it together on his own. And then he made me promise to tell you how I felt.”
“That’s it?”
“Yeah, all your dad did was talk some sense into me before I let you get away.”
“Well I guess I can’t really get too angry about that. I mean, I am happy. I just wish you would have said something about talking to him.”
“Eh, pretty sure I did, I just didn’t tell you what we talked about. But seriously what was I supposed to tell you? That your dad assured me that you would choose the blue jello over a raw potato if you knew it was on the menu?”
Sam laughed, “He said that?”
“He called me blue jello Sam, yeah pretty sure I remember that.”
She laughed more at that, “Yeah that sounds like something dad would say,” she paused still giggling. “You know, I could really go for some blue jello,” she said as she drew him to her kissing him in the middle of the footpath.
“Humm, Sam, people are starting to notice,” Jack said in a low whisper after the kiss ended.
“Nervous, Jack?”
“We are in our hometown, you don’t know who from the SGC is here with their kids.”
“We’re also off duty, Jack. Remember?” She said, taking his hand to continue their walk.
“They don’t know that though. I’m serious Sam, exemptions or not there are people out there who would love to cause trouble for us.”
“Like the folks in the zoo who have no idea we’re Air Force.”
“Ok, so maybe I’m being paranoid.”
“A bit,” she paused as they walked. “It doesn’t mean you’re wrong though. I’m sorry.”
“Ahh, for crying out loud, Sam. Don’t apologize. I just… damn it, we’re going to have to put our uniforms back on. When we do, we go back to the way it’s always been. I give the orders, you follow. Do you really want a relationship like that?”
“I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. In fact I’m thinking it’s going to be damn hard but we have never had a problem with our professional relationship, Sir and I don’t plan on starting now.”
“And when our professional relationship bleeds into our private relationship?”
“We’ll deal with it.”
“I’ll hold you to it, Carter.”
“We’ll hold each other to it, I’m not about to let Hammond down” she said jokingly.
She hadn’t been to a zoo in years and had actually scoffed at the idea when Pete had suggested it. She did feel a bit foolish for not knowing about it when she had lived there for eight years. Now she was glad she had gone with Jack. He had made the trip one to remember in the best possible way.
It wasn’t long before she realized that the more time she spent with Jack out of uniform the more she wanted to stay with him. But she knew that just wasn’t possible, not for long periods at a time at least. That thought was simply too depressing to give credence to.
“Did you have a good time today?” Jack asked as they were heading out.
“Absolutely, I’d forgotten how much I enjoyed the zoo. I’ll never forget Romeo, that’s for sure.”
“Yeah, he has a way with the ladies,” Jack laughed.
“Betsy seemed nice too.”
“Yeah, she is. Her oldest was the same age as Charlie. She was their Den-Mother for Cub Scouts when they were little.”
Sam wasn’t really sure what to say so she just gave a noncommittal “Uumhuh” of understanding.
“Yeah, she’s good people. So Samantha Carter, What’s next?”
“I honestly haven’t given it much thought.”
“Well, I have some stakes marinating if you want to come back to my place. Unless you have to get home.”
“As tempting as that sounds…”
“I promise I won’t overcook the meat this time.”
“I’m flattered.”
“So where am I going? Yours or mine?” This was starting to become a game for them.
“Are you asking me to sleep over again?”
“If I am?”
“Stakes sound great, but maybe I should get a few things from my place first.”
“Can do!”
************
The next morning Sam woke up alone in Jack’s bed wrapped up in nothing but a sheet, and feeling more than a little sore. It took her a minute to remember the night before. They ate and talked and drank. Good lord did they drink.
It started to come back to her. They had a couple of beers when Sam asked if he had anything else. Jack pulled out a bottle of whiskey. And all she could remember after that was him. She couldn’t keep her hands off of Jack. She had practically dragged him into his bedroom. The sex that followed was… Sam was suddenly very glad that Jack’s neighbors weren’t close. Sam pulled on her panties and found one of Jack’s t-shirts.
A moment later she padded into the kitchen where he was reheating leftover pancakes in the oven. His face split into a huge smile when he saw her. “Mornin’ Wild Thing” he drawled.
“Coffee,” she groaned.
He set a cup down in front of her “Bless you.”
“After last night, I can die a happy man.” His grin was almost manic.
“I can barely walk.”
“Hey, don’t blame me. I just followed orders.”
“Oh God, you did, didn’t you?” She laid her aching head on the table “Got anything for my head?”
Jack continued to grin as he put a plate of pancakes down in front of her with one hand and a bottle of Tylenol with the other. A moment later he followed it up with a large glass of water. “Thank you.”
“Oh no, thank you. Now I’ve got something I could write Penthouse about.”
“You wouldn’t.”
“Course not! But I could” he said, wiggling his eyebrows.
By the time they had finished breakfast Sam was feeling considerably better. She had really wanted to get a few household chores finished before work on Monday but she was still nursing the hangover and enjoying a lazy Sunday with Jack. In fact it was nearly dark before she finally left. He had a way of making her feel like a teenager again as she lingered on his doorstep kissing him goodbye.

Stargate Characters as Pokemon - cause why not
Jack would be Arcanine, he is badass and loyal and sweet he is a bit of a cutie (bonus in the gif for clone Jack fighting next to him)
Tumblr media
Sam would be Umbreon, cause she is badass as hell, and she evolved through friendship.
Tumblr media
Teal’c is Ivysaur, he is a gentle giant but can hurt you if he wants to
Tumblr media
And finally Daniel Jackson started as Shinx who is cute but will spark you out if needed but throughout the series has evolved to being Luxio who is beautiful and holds his own - could kill you if he wants

“It’s okay. I’ve got you.”- O’Neill & Seth
“I know that before I did not understand human money, but I can pay for our dinner tonight.”
His fake life had taught him so many things about humans that he had not understood on his first visit to earth.
The words were spoken with a soft teasing smile as Seth looked over at his dad. Well, not his actual dad. It was complicated even by earth standards. But it was similar to what he considered his relationship to be like with Jack Bruno.
He’d come to greatly appreciate having the other Jack in his life. If Jack Bruno couldn’t be here, Jack O’Neill was certainly a very fitting alternative.
Not that anyone could actually replace Jack Bruno.
“Besides, I invited you out to lunch. I think it only makes sense for me to pay, don’t you?” @lcnelylcves

10 fandoms, 10 characters, 10 tags
Tagged by @dragonnan, like a week ago and only just now remembering this was a thing I didn’t do. Whooopsy...
So I didn’t see the rules but based on observation it looks like selecting 10 characters from 10 different fandoms and I think posting gifs is optional.
1. Thomas Magnum , as played by Jay Hernandez. Because just look at this face. Also, while the canon of the show largely avoid mentioning it, this is the first veteran character I actually associate with.
Tumblr media
2. Steven Crain, from Haunting of Hill House as played by Michiel Huisman. One, Michiel Huisman. Two, because I can appreciate where his character comes from: that “everyone leans on me for everything but sometimes, I really want to push back but it always comes back to ‘haunt’ me in the worst way” is something that I’ve had serious issues with in the past. The struggle to want to love his drug addict brother unconditionally, but getting tired of the numerous times he lies to and steals from him; to want to connect with his family but there’s so much bad blood between them it might as well be an ocean. Also, coming from a family where mental illness doesn’t run, it wanders around, getting to know each of us on a personal level, his insistence that they need therapy, not Ghostbusters, is an argument I have legitimately had with relatives.
Tumblr media
3. Rip Wheeler, from Yellowstone, as played by Cole Hauser. Complicated, and just so fucking done with everything and everyone, but still is nice to his animals.

4. Dean Winchester, from Supernatural, as played by Jensen Ackles. I have loved this character since this scene, and the relationship between Sam and Dean might as well be my sister and I - I watched the first 20 minutes, called my sister up and was like “THEY FINALLY MADE A SHOW ABOUT SIBLINGS WE CAN RELATE TO”.
Tumblr media
5. Alec Ramsey, from Black Stallion, as played by Kelly Reno. Because I wanted to be abandoned on an island with a horse in the Mediterranean Sea.
Tumblr media
6. Tony Stark, from MCU, as played by  Robert Downey Jr. One of the few characters to accurately portray CPTSD and how it changes your brain chemistry to the point that logic is no longer a concept you can understand, reacting on emotion, even when the choices you’re making are fundamentally terrible.
Tumblr media
7. Malcolm Bright, from Prodigal Son, as played by Tom Payne. One, embraces therapy. Is very open about the fact that he is wildly dependent on not only therapy, but serious medication. Two, one of the few characters where you can understand what it means to love someone and hate them at the same time.
Tumblr media
8. Jack O’Neil, from Stargate: SG-1, as played by Richard Dean Anderson. I joined the military because of this man.
Tumblr media
9. Sam Beckett and Al Calavicci, because they are in fact two halves of a whole idiot. Sam Beckett is one of those fundamentally GOOD guys. He’s big on consent, far reaching consequences of actions, and genuinely wants to help everyone he meets. Also, a wonderfully tragic character, he does good for everyone else except himself. Al - A total cad, but somehow, one of the most appreciative men in TV concerning women. He just loves women - everything about them. And the story about his first wife? Being a prisoner and presumed dead for years in a Vietnamese POW camp? His sister being taken away and put in an institution for having Downs? My precious baby. I love him, and his friendship with Sam.
Tumblr media
10. Tristan Farnon, from All Creatures Great and Small (2021 edition), played by Callum Woodhouse. Tristan is new, but I would kill for him. He’s so weird, and my sense of humor, but also again - one of those genuinely good guys, who has a very low opinion of himself, but admits that he’s just really good at playing a part. Besides. Just look at this doof.

Worst. Birthday. Ever.
It’s your birthday, and you get to spend it in a firefight on an alien world.
Nonnie requested a reader-insert fic featuring a gruff-but-sweet Jack and someone’s birthday. Hope this fits the bill, Nonnie!!
AO3
Tumblr media
“Worst. Birthday. Ever,” you gasp as you duck behind a fallen pillar.
Another few rounds of P90 fire go off overhead before Colonel O’Neill drops down beside you to reload. “Come on now,” he quips. “Surely you’ve had worse. What about college?” He pops up to fire off another handful of shots, then ducks hastily as the stone next to you explodes in the energy blast that answers his volley. You both slide down a little lower, just in case. “Surely there’s some legendary drunken escapade that tops this mess?”
“If there is,” you pant, trying and failing to reload your own gun, “I was too drunk to remember it.”
“Carter, how’s it coming? I’d love to go home right about now!”
“Three minutes, Colonel,” she shouts back from the far side of the DHD, where she is trying to recalibrate it to send the IDC signal to unlock the iris.
O’Neill peeks around the pillar and then ducks away from another energy blast. “I’ll give you two! L/N, you out?”
You try to reload again, but you just can’t seem to get the stupid magazine to lock into place. “Mag’s jammed.”
“Daniel! Give her a hand! Teal’c, cover him!”
Suddenly, Daniel is at your side, hands over yours, and then he’s shouting. “Jack, she’s bleeding!”
Alarmed, you lean out, trying to get a look at Carter, but then Daniel is everywhere — shoving you back against the pillar again, batting your hands away, lifting the P90 strap over your head, bracing a hand against your suddenly aching shoulder — and you realize it’s you. You’re bleeding. In the midst of a dozen other, smaller cuts, there is a shard of stone piercing your shoulder, right through your jacket. You feel dizzy.
“Shit,” the colonel curses. “Shit, shit, shit.”
“It doesn’t hurt, sir,” you offer, mildly confused about that fact, but grateful for it. It looks like it should hurt. You try to take your gun from Daniel again, to cover your teammates in this firefight, but you can’t quite make your hand obey, and it occurs to you that this is why you couldn’t reload.
This is bad.
“One minute, Carter,” O’Neill shouts. “We have wounded.”
“One minute,” she confirms. “Nearly there!”
“Jack, give me a hand.” Daniel pulls the strap off your P90 and folds your arm up.
O’Neill drops his gun and presses your hand over the shard in your shoulder, and you grunt at the first bolt of pain. “L/N, look at me. You hang onto this,” he says firmly. “As long as it’s plugging the hole, you aren’t leaking. There’ll be no bleeding out on your birthday, understood?”
“Yes, sir.” You gasp as Daniel tightens the strap around your chest to hold your arm in place, but then everything seems to speed up. Daniel shoves a zat into your good hand, and Carter is shouting, and O’Neill is bellowing into his radio, and you’re running — or at least someone is. You’re pretty sure it isn’t you at this point. You’re too focused on hanging onto that shard of stone and breathing through the pain as you’re jostled along at someone’s side, shooting at anything that moves, determined not to be a liability. Then you are on the ramp, and your shoulder is absolutely killing you, and there are guns everywhere, and someone is replacing Teal’c at your side - though when he’d gotten there in the first place, you have no idea. Dr. Frasier is prying the zat out of your death grip, and everything is just a little bit slippery, just a little bit surreal as you’re loaded onto a gurney, and the rest of your team is hustled off in another direction entirely.
-
“How does that feel, Y/N?” Janet asks, adjusting your sling slightly to better support your shoulder. She’s got you all put back together and bandaged up, but you still feel absolutely wrung-out.
“Better, Janet. Thanks.” You offer up a watery half-smile, the best you can manage.
“None of that now,” she scolds softly. “I see from your chart it’s your birthday.”
You chuckle bitterly. “I think I’d rather skip this year and pretend it never happened.”
“Now that is not what I want to hear right now,” Colonel O’Neill declares as he strides into the infirmary with Teal’c and Daniel in tow. “A death-defying firefight, a harrowing escape, all the good drugs in the aftermath… what’s not to like?”
Daniel rolls his eyes. “What he means to say is, how’s the arm, Y/N?”
You barely stop yourself from shrugging. “Good enough for government work,” you quip, hoping that will be good enough.
O’Neill barks out a laugh. “You know, as a tax-paying American citizen, that’s not a real comfort, but I do appreciate the spunk, L/N.”
“I do what I can, sir.” In truth, you feel ready to fly apart at the seams. Tired, embarrassed, frustrated, disappointed… You’re sure you’ll feel glad to be alive later, but for now, you just wish it was any other day, as if the rest of it would be somehow easier to handle if it wasn’t happening on this particular day.
“As do we all,” Teal’c intones gently, seemingly sensing your fragile mood. “I, too, am glad to see you are well.”
“Yes, well, since you’ve got a doctor’s note, the rest of us have a debriefing in ten, and then!” O’Neill grins. “Then, the birthday party to end all birthday parties!”
You aren’t sure if the grandiose declaration makes you want to laugh or cry. “Sounds ominous,” you comment carefully, struggling to get your raw emotions under control. You aren’t in the mood for partying, but you don’t want to ruin the gesture either.
“Nah,” O’Neill says, sitting beside you on the bed and giving your good hand a squeeze. “No booze, or the doc’ll have my head, and no cake because Teal’c’s a terrible baker, but we did liberate several gallons of green jello from the commissary. We have permission from the general to use the VIP suite — they have the comfiest couch, don’t ya know — and Carter’s currently negotiating with Siler for his copy of Mary Poppins and a case of rootbeer. 1919. Very good year.”
“Mary Poppins,” Daniel says skeptically. “That’s your big surprise?”
At your side, the colonel nods solemnly. “Mary Poppins.”
Teal’c cocks his head. “What is a merry poppin?”
You can’t help a giggle at the absurdity of the question, of the whole situation. “Mary Poppins.”
“She’s a who, not a what,” the colonel explains, “and I think she’s just the sort of who we need tonight.” He turns back to you and hands you a tissue without comment. “Now, Y/N, you get some rest and just enjoy all those good meds for a bit.” He gives you a one-armed hug and kisses your hair as he stands. “I’ll come bust you out of here once we’re done with the general, and then we’ll see what a spoonful of sugar can do about improving this whole birthday situation. Deal?”
You smile helplessly, but your face feels wet, and you realize you’re crying too. You wipe your eyes with the tissue, suddenly overwhelmed by gratitude. “Deal.”
He nods with a proud smile and begins herding the others out of the infirmary.
“Jack?” you call as he reaches the door. He glances over his shoulder. “Thanks.”
He just smiles again. “Happy birthday.”

For me, part of being asexual means that I get really, REALLY grouchy about a lot of romance in media. Rather, the obsession with romance, sex, and sexuality in media. I am that person that will roll my eyes and turn off a movie if it looks like it’s turning into some steamy nonsense, and I will never willingly sit through a romcom even if you paid me. Sex scenes? I’m out. Passionate kissing? Peace, I’m going to the kitchen, want anything? Call me back when the actual story gets back on. Ridiculous ‘ooh they have such SEXUAL TENSION and chemistry, let’s see how close we can get to making them kiss and just have them breathe heavily in each others faces to get our audience all bothered’? I will end you all. I HATE when books or movies or shows throw in a romantic or sexy subplot just for the lols, at least what I perceive as the lols. Basically, a romance has to be really super duper well-crafted for me to get behind it and not be just utterly enraged or completely turned off from the story.
(Also please note that when I use the term romance in this context, I’m using it as a catch all for ship-based storylines that, due to our culture’s obsession with sex, usually include or hinge on sex or kissy scenes.)
That being said. When a romance is done well, and I mean really well, I absolutely 100% lose my mind. I feel that mess in my soul.
So with that introduction, allow me to lay out a few of my favorite (and, in some instances, most maddeningly painful) romances/canon ships in media.
(read more because I went off. like I said, I feel this way too deeply when it’s done well.)
Tumblr media
Winry Rockbell and Edward Elric in FMA:B. Slow burn, mutual pining, mutual cluelessness, what’s not to love? So soft and tender and funny all at the same time, and the mad respect Ed has for Winry is absolutely delightful. She does her own thing, and he’s totally supportive, just as she is of him. And a happily ever after??? UGH, I can’t, it’s perfect. The most straightforward and least convoluted of my whole list, and it’s comparatively easy to breeze through. FMA:B is great anyhow, so do yourself a favor and go watch it.
Tumblr media
Audrey Parker/ Nathan Wuornos in Haven (with major caveats). Caveats first: they went overboard with the sexy stuff in my opinion. It got too smutty for me, but my tolerance for that stuff is super low, and it did still air on TV, so evidently it wasn’t as bad for the target audience as it was for my sex-in-media-repulsed self. I also find the final seasons to get a bit stale and repetitive in terms of them trying to advance the love story narrative (all the plot points for it got addressed in earlier episodes/seasons, so why are we going over it again??). They also have a bit of an issue in some episodes with dragging out conflicts because the characters just won’t talk to each other like adults. But overall, taken as a whole, it hits hard. Again, we have a slow burn, mutual pining dynamic that starts as a genuine platonic friendship, and transforms into a dimension and time defying chosen soulmates love story for the ages. The things they would do to save each other, even if it means they can never be together, just so they have the joy of knowing that their beloved is okay. The tiny ways they take care of each other- Audrey testing Nathan’s coffee to see if it’s too hot, Nathan slowing down so he doesn’t out-pace her, it’s just adorable.
Tumblr media
Faramir and Eowyn in The Lord of the Rings BOOKS. This is an interesting one because it happens really quickly and between two minor characters. But Tolkien did this really interesting thing where he established these two characters separately, and then brought them together and played off what we knew about each of them in context of everything else that had happened with the main story, and suddenly it has, as one of my professors would say, “the illusion of depth.” Faramir absolutely falls head over heels for Eowyn but won’t act until she can deal with her own crap and be emotionally available. Eowyn realizes that she was hung up on ideals, illusions, and false dichotomies. Faramir has been through a lot and is looking for peace. Eowyn is looking for who she really is when she realizes she has more than two choices in life. They find healing together, and in the process, find what they were looking for in each other. And all that happens in the space of, like, 4 pages. I LOVE IT.
Tumblr media
Sam Carter and Jack O’Neill in Stargate SG1. This one will hurt you to no end. You will hate life. But gosh dang if they aren’t perfect. This is the slowest burn and most mutual pining of all slow burn mutual pining ships to ever grace media. I’m talking 8 seasons of these two sharing feelings but being unable to express it for one reason or another. What are those reasons, you ask? Jack is her superior and respects her too much to put her in that position. No fraternization on the team. Sam has career aspirations, he won’t ruin her life. He’s got his own issues to work through and knows he isn’t emotionally available. Sam is clueless for a while, then when she realizes she has feelings for him but it couldn’t be because of their work dynamic and because he’s still dealing with his own crap, she tries to move on but keeps coming back to the unspoken fact that she still loves him. To the point that she breaks off her own engagement to a great guy because she realizes she was only trying to move on-- and wasn’t successful. They are clearly in deep for each other, and yet they keep making excuses why they can’t say it.
In the whole series, they never officially get together, and I HATE THAT. There are multiple alternate realities and timelines where they are together, and happy, but in the main timeline, they can’t get over themselves, and it hurts so bad because they’re so perfect. Jack knows she’s the smartest person in the room, and he supports her and defends her and listens to and defers to her. He respects her first as an expert, then as a colleague, and then as a woman whom he deeply loves even though he can’t find it in him to love himself. She appreciates his experience and leadership, and trusts him implicitly. She knows she’s got more book smarts, but relies on his judgement and ability to remain calm under pressure. She also knows she can be real with him, and he knows that when she calls him on his BS he better listen. She is his conscience, and he is her backbone. And in between episodes where they’re clearly pining for each other, and even during, they’re really great friends and a great team. I could seriously write an essay on why this ship is both perfect and intensely frustrating, but then again, you could just watch a great and classic series and see what I mean for yourself. (Then you’d also get to meet the perfection that is Teal’c, and watch Daniel Jackson’s transition from Milo Thatch in Space to sassy beefcake demigod who still loves archaeology.)
Tumblr media
Beren and Luthien, Tolkien part 2, electric boogaloo. A love so powerful it transcends death, fate, hell and heaven all at once. It’s kind of wild and not what you’d expect if you’ve only read LotR (or only seen the movies), because it’s more a classic fairy tale than anything, but hot dang if it isn’t still one of the most powerful, moving, deeply impactful love stories in all of writing. It’s even a “love at first sight” narrative and I STILL fall hard for it. This story legit moves me to tears every dang time I read it, or even think about it too hard.
It starts as a simple “forbidden love” story, but these two loved each other so much that they defied one of the most powerful kings in all the world at that time (who was also Luthien’s dad, oopsies), defied Satan himself and marched into Hell just for the chance to be together, and then changed the very way the world works forever just so they could stay together and not be parted. Luthien is a total BEAST, while never giving up her gentle, loving, and tender nature. For the love of this man, she defies her father’s wishes and breaks herself out of her own dang tower to go rescue her prince instead of the other way round, she sends Sauron (yeah, he’s here too!) scurrying with his tail between his legs, wrecks his house, and frees all his slaves and prisoners just to try and get to Beren, drags his butt out of heck part 1, then willingly walks into literal, actual Hell with him and proceeds to enchant Satan and all the demons within. Then she gets her bf outta there after he loses his hand, and goes back to face her father unafraid. Basically, Beren undertakes a literally impossible task just for the chance to be with Luthien, but Luthien is the one that makes it happen because she loves him too much to sit around knowing he’s going to die. She’s willing to die with him rather than live without him, but more willing to dare death to come at her and get some because ain’t no way she’s losing him.
Then, at the last, when all should have been their happily ever after, everything goes wrong and she loses her beloved, and instead of mourning forever, she yeets off her mortal coil out of pure “Oh no you didn’t, not after all we went through” just to go stand before the God of Fate and the Dead and plead with him to change the rules of the universe itself just so that she can be with Beren. And he does it, because their love is so strong. Just for them, all of existence is rewritten so that they might never be parted.
And if you don’t think that’s the most beautiful thing you’ve ever heard, consider also: these two crazy kids were so wonderful that the Goodest Boy in all the world, a functionally immortal and super-intelligent dog sent from heaven itself by a literal god, willingly turned on all his masters and spontaneously learned intelligent speech just so he could help them out and be their Good Boy til the bitter end, thus (in Tolkien’s mythos) starting the whole “man’s best friend” thing with dogs. So yeah. And, uh, Tolkien based it on him and his wife, to the point of ripping their first meeting frame-for-frame from real life. It’s too much y’all.
Anyhow, this post is way, way too long, but I was just feeling the need to get that out there. Maybe I’ll have more in the future, but for now, this is what was on my mind. Particularly the last two.

I’m currently rewatching my favorite TV series ever – Stargate SG-1. And it occurred to me that Daniel Jackson is what Sam Winchester should’ve been (and is often said to be), but isn’t.
Daniel is sensitive and truly empathetic. He listens to people and can relate even to those with different experience than his own. He has a love for knowledge, but doesn’t look down on those who don’t have his classical formal education, and appreciates and respects those with skill and expertise in different areas than his own.
Also, unlike Sam, Daniel is… alive, for lack of a better word. He gets adorably excited easily, but he can also get angry or annoyed. He has his likes and dislikes. He has a sense of humor, witty and sarcastic. And he doesn’t turn up his nose on those who use humor even more often, either just for the fun of it or to lighten a dark mood or boost morale. He’s pretty non-judgmental in general.
Oh, and one more Stargate vs Supernatural observation – it’s such a relief to be watching a show where I love all the main characters. Sure, I have my number one on SG-1 (Jack O’Neill all the way!), but everyone on this show is so good, and brings in something unique and important, and I love them all so much. No matter who the scene or episode focuses on, I watch it happily, instead of having to fast forward scenes that only waste the episode’s air time on characters who have long overstayed their welcome or were never welcome in the first place.
Tl;dr: I’m slowly sinking back into my SG-1 obsession, and it feels damn good.

Pins And Needles (Chapter Two)
Tumblr media
(Read Chapter One here)
Rating: G
Word Count: 2294
Fandom: Stargate SG1
Pairing: Sam Carter x Janet Fraiser
Summary:  Janet is a single mother and owner of a tattoo studio. Sam is a florist who has just moved into town. Janet's infatuated. Sam's a disaster gay. Flower shop/Tattoo parlour AU.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter Two
Business was slow that day with only a few booked clients and a handful of walkins so Janet took the opportunity to get some administrative work done, which was good because she couldn’t stop thinking of the new florist. She put it down to Sam being so goddamn gorgeous.      She leaned back in her chair and rubbed her eyes, deciding that she needed a break. The computer screen told her that it was almost 3 o’clock and she’d run out of coffee an hour ago. Vala was just finishing up with a client, a new marine in his twenties who’d gotten his first tattoo, a small eagle on his forearm. They’d had to take a few breaks, making what should have been a 30-minute job into an hour. Janet got to her feet, dumping her empty cup in the bin as she approached the counter where he was paying.      “How did it all go?” She smiled politely resting a hand on Vala’s arm who returned the smile, looking a little exasperated. As soon he had finished paying and the door closed after him, Vala rolled her eyes and dropped back onto her stool as she tidied up the area.      “That man is supposed to protect our country and he can’t even handle a tattoo. God’s help us all.”      Janet hummed absently as she fished for her bag out of the staff cupboard, glancing back across the street for the thousandth time. The sun had disappeared behind thick, dark clouds and the rain had just started, drizzling lazily against the sidewalk. Usually, Cassie would meet them at the studio and spend the afternoon doing her homework in Daniel’s shop until close but in weather like this, it wasn’t unusual for Janet to pick her up if she wasn’t with a client. The other woman followed her gaze and smirked, tossing a wad of paper towel at her.      “Go ask her out or are you a coward as well as a flaming homosexual?”      If it was anyone else speaking to her like that, Janet may have knocked them out. Instead, she rolled her eyes and ignored the woman’s taunts. “I’m going to get Cass, call me if you need anything.”
“...So then I told Eliza where to shove it -”      “Cassandra Fraiser!”      “-Then Mr. Waters gave me detention for a week! A week, mom! That’s, like, totally unfair!”      The school traffic was backed up for blocks and what was supposed to be a 10-minute drive had turned into half an hour and Janet couldn’t wait to get home and sleep.      “Cassie, I thought we promised that you were going to try to behave this year.” The teenager rolled her eyes, arms folded across her chest and Janet sighed, squeezing the steering wheel. “What were you arguing about anyway?”      This time, Cassie didn’t answer, the silence heavier than it ought to be. They inched forward in the traffic.      “Cass.”      “She called you a dyke.” A car honked for them to move forward again - the congestion was clearing now - and Janet let out a long, sharp breath.      “I’m sorry, Cass.”      “It’s not right, mom! How was I the one to get in trouble when they called you… that?”      “I appreciate you standing up for me, Cassie, but sometimes you need to pick your battles. Outside of school, snot the kid but when you’re in class, you… you can’t risk your education.”      “So, I let them win?” The conversation was going in circles and before she could think of an appropriate answer, they were parking in front of the studio. Janet turned in her seat, lips pursed.      “No. But you don't sacrifice your education for a low life like that.” The teenager huffed and Janet reached over, squeezing her hand. “I’m proud of you...Wanna grab a hot chocolate?” They shared a smile and Cassie nodded; the rain had eased off now but the pavement was slick and Janet made sure to watch her step as she climbed out.      “Sam?” She was surprised to see a tall, blonde woman talking to Vala and the two women turned to them as they entered. “Getting a tattoo?” Pink flared across Sam’s fair cheeks and she shoved her hands into the pockets of her leather jacket, shrugging. “I, uh… I finished unpacking most of my boxes and I thought maybe you could show me around?” The warm blue eyes moved then from her to the teenager.      “Oh, I’m sorry, I promised Cassie--”      “Don’t be silly, mom,” the girl interrupted, grinning as she looked between them, “Vala promised to help me with my homework.” Her partner in crime laughed, giving Janet the thumbs up. Sam looked a little confused but good-naturedly went along with it. Janet gave her an apologetic smile, ignoring the two trouble makers. “Then I’d love to show you around.”      “Great.”      She shot her daughter and staff a look and followed Sam onto the sidewalk, glad for the warmer clothes she’d chosen that morning. The afternoon was looking grey and damp, with the promise of more rain to come but for now, it left the air with memories of winter just passed.      “So, you have a daughter?” The question didn’t sound judgy but like she was genuinely interested. They made their way down the main street that was fairly empty for this time of day, taking their time on their stroll.      “Yeah, she just turned 14… It’s been a hell of a ride.”      “Is her dad a tattoo artist too?”      Janet hesitated. “No, he’s not in our lives anymore.”      “Oh, god I’m sorry..”      “No, no, don’t be, he’s not dead, though sometimes I wish he was.” She could see the confusion written all over Sam’s face and she smiled back reassuringly. “No, we just don’t have anything to do with him, not since we moved out here a few years back.”      “Sounds like it was for the best…”      “Best thing I’ve ever done...What about you? You married?”      Sam laughed gently, blue eyes warm and Janet felt her belly do a little flip. “No. Nearly happened a few times but apparently, I attract psychos. Jonas, well, he ended up getting into some weird cult and Pete wanted different things than I did.”      “Men, huh.”      “Yeah. I guess that’s part of the reason I came out here. Fresh start and all that.”      A faint rumble echoed across the sky and as a pair, the women looked up as the first few drops of rain dropped onto their cheeks. With very little notice, the skies opened again and unleashed the mother of all rain, fat heavy drops pounding the pavement. Sam shrieked and Janet laughed, a little bit giddy as she pulled Sam into the hardware store. The door slammed behind them and the blonde woman shook the water out of her hair, grinning like a mad man.      “Wet enough for you, ladies?”      Lightning illuminated the street again as the women turned to the voice. Standing by an ancient cash register, positioning a metal bucket under the steady drip from the roof was a handsome man in his mid 40’s; his skin was like honey and despite the weather, his silvering hair was hidden beneath a khaki cap. Janet barely remembered to let go of the other woman’s hand and greeted the man with a grin. “Hey there, Jack,” She tried to fix her windswept hair, suddenly a little self-conscious. Jack kept himself in better shape than most other men of his age and he was well aware of women’s desire for him. Janet had seen her fair share of the man over the past few years but recently and most importantly, mutually, they’d decided that neither of them was willing to advance the ‘relationship’ further than what it was; too many drinks and late-night booty calls. They were both damaged in their own ways and neither seemed very good at working on themselves. Still, they were good friends and Cassie adored her ‘Uncle Jack’. That didn’t mean that Janet wouldn’t blush when he smiled at her like that.      “This is Sam, the new florist.” He wiped a hand on his jeans and offered it to the blonde with a disarming smile.      “Sam Carter.”      “Jack. O’Neill. Nice to meet ya. That your ‘Ninja’ across the road?”      “Sure is! You got one?”      “Been trying to rebuild one for years but… Ah, you know how that is.”      “Yeah, don’t I just. Got a shell at home but… well.”      They both chuckled and Janet looked between them, brows raised with amusement.      “Hope you don’t mind if we hole up in here until the rain passes.”      “Not at all. Cam keeps saying that this place could use a feminine touch.”      As if summoned, a younger man stuck his head out from the staff room, chowing down on some macaroons. Introductions were made, macaroons passed around and the staff kettle boiling while the storm raged on outside. Janet set herself on top of a small step ladder, watching as the florist spoke excitedly about her motorbike preferences.      The store was large, much larger than her studio but with rows and rows of shelves cluttered with every type of nut, bolt, washer, screwdriver, and tool you could need. Jack didn’t keep the place very tidy but from what he’d told Janet, his ex-father-in-law had handed the keys over to him just before the divorce so most of the stuff was from as early as the ’80s.      “So you’re ex-military?” Sam asked Jack, making herself comfortable on a fishing chair.      “How could you tell?”      Sam blushed, shrugging. “I know your type. My father was in the Air Force.”      The man turned then, a sudden realisation coming to his face. “Carter. Of course, Jacob Carter?”      “Yeah. You knew him?”      “Met him in passing a few times. How is the old man going?”      “Oh, he...passed away a few years ago. Cancer.”      “Ah geez, I’m sorry. He was a good man.”      Cam emerged with a tray of cups and macaroons his grandmother had made, he explained. He set it down on the counter and passed both women a cup of hot coffee. Sam shot Janet a skeptical look as the smaller woman sniffed the liquid. It smelt wrong and she wasn’t sure any amount of creamer or sugar could save it.      “Sorry,” Cam commented, seeing their looks of distrust. “We usually get coffee from Jackson down the road so this is all we’ve got at the moment until the rain stops.” He held up his makeshift coffee mug - a mason jar that Janet could have sworn was holding pencils on the front desk moments ago. Jack took a sip from a battered styrofoam cup and grimaced.      “How’s Cas?” he asked the tattoo artist who decided not to risk the murky brown liquid and cradled the cup on her knee.      “Yeah, not bad. She, uh… got another detention today.” Janet shrugged.      “Just say the word, Jan, I can take her for a weekend. Straighten her out.” His words were not unkind and a smile accompanied them. She was well aware that his ‘straightening out’ would be movies and pizza. Still, it would be good for Cassie to spend some time with a parental figure like Jack. She often worried if she was doing the right thing by her daughter. It scared her to think that she was going to stuff her up in some way.      “Thanks, Jack.” Their eyes met for a moment and she almost missed his touch. No, she thought, she had to be strong. As handsome and enticing as Jack was, Janet couldn’t let herself go there again.
It took almost an hour for the rain to ease and in that time, Sam and Jack seemed to hit it off, discussing their experience with the Air Force. Jealousy boiled in the base of her stomach but she tried to ignore it; she had no right to be jealous of either of them.      As soon as the sky cleared a little, Janet got to her feet, setting her cup down by the counter. Three sets of eyes followed her.      “I best get back. I don’t trust Vala with Cassie for too long; lord knows what trouble they’ll get into.”      Sam stood as well, smiling at the smaller woman. “I’ll walk you back.”      Janet nodded and the women said their goodbyes, not without Jack offering his help with Sam’s bike. There was that jealousy again and Janet made sure to hide it behind a tight-lipped smile.      “Sorry the tour didn’t go so well,” she commented once they were out on the street. They’d only made it half a block before the storm hit and cut their time together short. Now though, the sky was blue, the darkest clouds moving towards the ever-darkening horizon.      “It’s okay. They seem nice.”      “Yeah, they’re good guys.”      “Well maybe,” Sam shrugged, “I could buy you lunch tomorrow and we could finish the tour?”      Janet felt her cheeks get a little warm and she nodded, smiling gently. “Sure. I think I can fit you in.”      “I’ll bring the umbrella.”      They made it back to the shop as Cassie and Vala were locking the doors up. Sam made her way across to her bike that was drenched from the downpour.      “Let us give you a ride home,” Janet called. “We can swing by in the morning and drop you off.”      Even if Sam was more interested in Jack, Janet wouldn’t let that stop her from making friends. Women had to stick together and she definitely wasn’t about to let a guy get between her and a new friendship.      She saw Sam smile from across the road as she secured her bike and slung her bag over her shoulder. Janet made sure to ignore Cassie’s giggles all the way home.

Come Home
Chapter 10 18+
Jack showed her everything he could think of. Ova had an interest in the ocean life, so he took her to an aquarium and she got to see turtles and all sorts of coloured fish that she was amazed by. He took her further up the coast to see people surfing and jet skiing, he took her to all the best places to eat, played pool with some of the locals, and he taught her to drive.
At night they sat either in front of the fire and talked about more things he wanted to show her, or outside on the edge of the pond, talking about Olympus and how much she missed it. Jack wasn’t that interested in the war she was fighting, as far as he was concerned it was several galaxies away and with little chance of any of them still being around after ten thousand years.
Ova taught him to play a strategy game of her own, called Maze. It was about as complicated as chess, but the opposite player designed a strategically complex maze for you to navigate. Each move led to a decision and it was intense. He only won one game in the fifteen they played, but she was as equally excited for him as he was that he’d done it.
They met up with Daniel one day and Jack hung out with Teal’c while Ova learned about Earth cultures from different museums. She was excitable and curious and Daniel loved it, Jack just laughed to himself that he finally found someone as excited about fossils as he was.
‘She seems to be happy, O’Neill.’ Teal’c commented while they sat outside the museum waiting for them.
‘Yeah.’ Jack nodded, fidgeting a little.
‘There is only one day left for her to see Earth,’ he went on. ‘Do you think you will be able to convince her to stay in that time?’
‘I’m not trying to convince her to stay, Teal’c.’ Jack looked at his friend. ‘Her people might be out there and she’s gotta go find them. I’m giving her reason to come back if she… look, the more Ancients we have on our side, the better as far as I’m concerned.’ Jack worried his pause in speech would have given him away.
Teal’c regarded him for a moment. ‘Are you not curious about the five?’ Jack just sighed in response. ‘Major Carter believes the five to be beings of great significance and Daniel Jackson agrees with her.’
‘Yeah Teal’c, I am curious,’ Jack snapped, though Teal’c didn’t take offence in the slightest. ‘But right now, the important thing is to make sure Ova comes back home once she’s done what she needs to out there.’
‘Indeed.’ Teal’c hummed and continued to look out at the view of the museum in front of them.
Jack thought about what he wanted Ova to see next. In truth, he’d rather take her home and listen to her talk some more, but he knew that would lead his mind to other things. He tried not to think on her like that, she only had a day and a half left and he wasn’t going to be selfish about it.
She was spending time with Carter and Teal’c the next day, they’d scheduled in a flight in one of the planes used for close combat. Jack hoped she’d like that, a chance to see what the air force saw when they were flying into a war zone. She’d seen all the good things, but she was a soldier at heart and might have appreciated some of the more combative elements of human society.
Ova and Daniel were talking a million miles an hour about Ancient Egypt and how they eventually evolved into the Goa’uld they knew today, she was fascinated by the recording of the Egyptian Gods as well as those of Olympus and the Greeks. Ova had a sadness to her when he spoke of the twelve Olympians.
She moved the conversation along and Daniel took that to mean that the Greek myths may have had some grounds in truth as well. He wanted to press her, but the war wasn’t that long ago for her, so bringing it up was a risky move if he didn’t want to upset her.
Jack saw both Daniel and Ova coming out of the museum finally and decided they should all go to dinner. Ova loved hearing stories about their missions together, she especially loved the ones at Jack’s expense which he didn’t mind, only defending himself a little and not wanting her to lose her smile.
Carter joined them for dinner and they all went to a bar, Carter and Ova played pool and wiped the place clean between them. Jack just sat with a beer in hand watching how happy Ova was when she was surrounded by people and having fun. She really was beautiful.
Eventually it was time to go back home and they all said their goodbyes, Ova hugging Teal’c much to his surprise, but the stoic Jaffa just wrapped his arms around her in return and it was sweet in a way.
Ova talked nonstop about all the things Daniel had taught her and although Jack was barely listening, the sound of her voice soothed him. Once they got home, Jack decided it was another nice night to sit by the pond. He grabbed a couple of blankets and some ice cream, something she’d taken a liking to when they ate out.
Ova settled looking up at the clear night sky, she seemed at peace and Jack had half a mind to just leave her be, but his desire to sit beside her was more overwhelming than that.
Jack sat down and handed her a blanket which she wrapped around her shoulders and sighed into the comfort of it. He looked up at the stars with her for a moment, enjoying the sound of their surroundings.
‘So, which direction is Olympus?’ He asked. Ova looked at him and smiled, she pointed somewhere behind them.
‘It’s somewhere in that direction.’ She said, with a hint of sadness.
‘How far?’ Jack looked towards where she was pointing, the sky looked a little darker.
‘Very.’ She sighed and turned her attention back to in front of them. She wrapped the blanket a little tighter around her body and Jack instinctively shifted closer, putting his arm around her shoulders.
Jack hadn’t done that before, but it felt right and Ova didn’t mind, in fact she shifted so that she was leaning up against his chest. Jack didn’t risk anything else more forward, he wanted to though. He wanted to let his hand drift over her soft skin and make her sigh into his touch.
The entire week was spent with a heavy tension between them, Jack never stepped over the line, remembering what she’d said about relationships in her culture beginning with a sturdy foundation of trust. He didn’t dare do anything without her permission, but every time he thought he might have crossed a line, she only leaned into it. Maybe he was already there.
‘You excited for tomorrow?’ Jack asked, sipping his beer.
‘Yes.’ She said, quietly, seemingly enjoying the close proximity. ‘Very.’
‘Good. Carter can’t wait to show you how it all works and Teal’c… well, you know he’s… excited on the inside.’
Ova laughed and let her head rest on his shoulder. How had he not noticed how good she smelt before? It was a sweet mix of something he sort of recognised, combined with the smell of the museum she’d spent most of the day in.
‘So, what do you think of Earth so far?’
Ova inhaled deeply. ‘I think it’s beautiful.’ She spoke quietly and it made Jack’s heart skip a couple of beats. ‘I wish I could see more of it.’
‘Well, if you ever feel like coming back, I might be able to show you more.’ Jack distinctly felt her own breathing hitch and he was in two minds about whether to take advantage of it or not. ‘We have our own Mount Olympus, you know?’
‘Mm, Daniel told me.’ She was definitely tiring and Jack was a little upset that he wouldn’t get the whole night to talk to her.
‘We could go there next time?’ Jack offered. ‘It’s not sixty thousand feet or anything, but it’s still very impressive.’
Ova laughed, igniting him a little. She turned to see him and smiled, but something about staring into her eyes in such close proximity had her stilling. He was so close to her mouth, he could have kissed her, but he wasn’t sure if it was appropriate or even what she was indicating. He couldn’t mess it up. Jack cleared his throat, scanning his eyes over her face.
‘Is there…’ Jack cleared his throat again, feeling his whole body reacting to her gaze alone. ‘An Olympian custom I should be aware of here?’
‘No.’ She breathed. ‘If you want it, you should do it.’
She had no idea how much he wanted it.
Jack slowly slid his hand up her jaw and into her unimaginably soft hair. Her grey eyes that may as well have been black, fluttered closed at the mere touch. Jack lowered his mouth, grazing her full lips with his and hearing the softest sigh in existence. He pressed his lips a little harder and felt his body jolt with excitement.
He couldn’t resist kissing her deeper, with every move he made, he needed more, he wanted to drink all of her in. Jack was immediately addicted to her kisses, she tasted sweet like the dessert she’d eaten after dinner. Her hands drifting over his chest, gripping his jacket for support, he wished it wasn’t there, he wanted to feel her hands on his bare skin, he wanted her beneath him, pressed into him, above him, every which way she would allow him. He needed her.
Jack couldn’t help himself, he dragged his teeth over her bottom lip and heard a deep groan come from somewhere deep in her chest. He wanted to hear more, make more happen, but he was somewhat aware that he was still outside, and next to his empty pond wasn’t what he envisioned with Ova. He released her lip and breathed against her for a moment, his hand still deep in her hair.
For a while, they both remained close, their foreheads pressed together while they recovered. Jack could’ve sworn he heard her breathe a laugh at one point. He slowly opened his eyes to see her and she soon did the same, her dark eyes locked with his.
He smiled, still not saying anything, but he gently kissed her once more before they went inside where it was warmer.
Jack wasn’t sure why he’d stopped the kiss, she was clearly enjoying it and had no resistance to his advances. He wondered if he could have taken her to bed that night and shown her how he really felt.
They ascended the stairs to head to their respective rooms, Ova didn’t seem to be anticipating anything and Jack couldn’t help but smile at her for it.
‘What?’ She frowned, opening the door to her room.
‘Nothing.’ Jack still smiled. He slowly wandered closer to her and leaned on the wall next to her. There was so much he wanted to say, but no words would quite be enough to express what he was feeling.
Instead, Jack scanned every part of her pretty face, being unable to resist her light smile, he leaned down and once again pressed his mouth to hers. Her hands slid around his waist, making him stutter into his movements. His hands were suddenly in her hair, holding her against him as she became greedy for more.
Jack could feel her body pushing up to his, but he needed to know if he had her permission to do what he really wanted. She just tasted so good.
He pulled away just enough to ask her. ‘Ova-‘ he kissed her again. ‘You really-‘ another kiss. ‘Want this?’ He kissed her again, before pulling away enough for her to speak.
‘Please.’ It was a clear beg and there was no way Jack was passing up the opportunity.
Jack groaned, moving his hands down to hook beneath her legs, lifting her up to wrap her legs around his waist, he could feel her strength around him and a part of him was intimidated, the other part was excited. He felt the wall behind him as she pressed hungrier and hungrier kisses into him.
Jack was able to move enough to get them to his bedroom which thankfully wasn’t that far away. He kicked the door shut and lay her down on his bed.
He really didn’t want to stop kissing her, it felt like a lifeline, but his need to feel the rest of her skin against his mouth was starting to overwhelm him. Jack began kissing down her jaw and the first beautiful groan emerged from her mouth, he was addicted immediately, his hips pushing between her legs, pulling the second beautiful groan.
Jack descended down her neck, finding numerous points of sensitivity and attacking them with his mouth, tongue and teeth. He listened to the sounds that were the loudest and made mental notes to revisit those areas.
Ova’s hands ran over his body, feeling his shape and he wanted her to feel more of him, he wanted to feel more of her.
Jack ran his hands down her sides and over her legs, feeling how toned she was beneath her jeans and jumper. He ran his tongue up her neck, feeling her back arch as he captured her mouth in another searing kiss. He could feel her soft skin just above her jeans against the tips of his fingers.
Ova’s jaw dropped as the simple touch was enough to illicit another moan from her chest. It amazed him how easily she could feel pleasure from touch alone. He couldn’t wait to see what else he could make her do.
Jack slowly pushed her light jumper up and allowed his hand to roam the skin, he felt his hips rhythmically pushing against her and it was as much pleasure for him as it was for her. Ova panted hard between his kisses and Jack only allowed her moments to recover, before kissing her again and again.
He managed to push her jumper up enough that he could pull it off without her having to get up. Once he threw it to one side and looked down, he thought his heart might stop. God, she was so beautiful.
Jack groaned into another kiss, pushing his hips harder into her, before once again descending down her neck, but it wasn’t enough. Jack could feel her along the same line of thinking. He couldn’t help his smile as he got up on his knees, enough to take his t-shirt off and he was a little surprised when he saw that her eyes darting over his body, taking him in the same way he’d taken her in.
Ova’s eyes travelled down his bare chest, her fingers drifting over the skin, making his eyes close as he felt her softness cover his body. She felt his hips, his stomach, his chest, his shoulders. He felt her lips against his collarbone and his arms began weakening as he held himself above her.
Her lips consumed him in a way he’d never felt before, it was like warmth crashing over his body in waves, over and over again. Jack felt his chest heaving, gasping for breath as her mouth covered him.
Ova travelled up his neck, placing kisses, her tongue tickling his skin beautifully. ‘Jack.’ She breathed and it was his undoing.
Jack kissed her harshly, letting his bare chest press into hers, he could feel how warm she was, feeling her soft breasts against his chest. He didn’t hesitate, Jack descended all the way down her neck and tasted the soft skin over her breasts. He wrapped his mouth around her nipple, the moan that escaped in tandem with her hand in his hair and scratching down his back, was gloriously addictive.
Jack held her waist, moving his fingers to her jeans, slowly unfastening the button as he moved over her soft flesh, her sensitive skin igniting something more primal within him. He could hear his name on her lips, hear her begging for more.
He pulled her jeans down and ran his lips over the thin, sensitive skin that covered her hips.
‘Jack, yes.’ She panted. He pulled her jeans and underwear off the whole way and began kissing her inner thighs which were just as sensitive.
Jack glanced up to see her chest heaving breath into her lungs and he smiled at how beautiful she was laid out on his bed, ready for him, wanting him to go further, do more to her, for her.
His mind was a daze as he let his hands wrap around her toned thighs while his mouth worked towards her core. Jack ran his tongue over where he’d kissed, travelling closer and closer, before grazing his lips over her folds, teasingly, bringing out a stuttered laugh from her, before beginning on the other thigh and working his way up once again.
Ova sighed, panted, whispered encouragements, all of it was savoured, every moment banked in his mind, he wasn’t forgetting this any time soon. He was never going to forget the sounds she was making, the way her fingers delved into his hair, the way she felt around him, needing more.
Jack couldn’t resist any longer, he ran his tongue lightly over her soaked core and hummed, listening to her laugh a little as he tested her resolve. He was very confident that he could make her come undone quickly and was torn between going teasingly slow, and extracting as much pleasure as he could from her.
He decided he simply couldn’t wait to hear her come for him and began tracing every part of her, building her higher, worshipping her and soon she was there. Jack felt her convulse against his tongue, her moan of his name was heavenly and he needed to hear it again. The second it started to fade, he got greedy for more.
Jack gave her a moment to calm down, before trailing a line of soft kisses up her toned stomach. Suddenly she was bringing him up to kiss him deeply and passionately, tasting what he’d done to her. He was taken a back and for a moment, making Ova stopped.
‘Sorry.’ She panted, her voice stuttered. ‘Should I not have done that?’
‘No, you should.’ Jack suddenly croaked back. It was completely erotic and something Jack liked, but he’d found so few women who kissed him like that after going down on them. ‘You definitely should.’ He repeated, making her smile as he kissed her deeply once more. He groaned into her, needing more of what she was giving him.
Ova’s hands slid between them as she began unbuckling his belt and unzipping his trousers. He might have needed a minute before he could do anything, but it didn’t seem to stop her.
Jack helped her with taking them off completely. He stood up and threw both his trousers and briefs away, Ova looked up at him with a grin on her face that he enjoyed a lot.
She motioned for him to sit down and the second he did, she moved herself above him, her hands either side of his face, her darkened grey eyes piercing his. She was so beautiful. Jack slid his hands up her soft thighs, holding her hips just for a moment, before guiding her down around him.
Ova’s head fell backwards as he slowly slid inside her. Jack’s eyes fluttered shut at the feeling of her surrounding him. He wrapped his arms around her body, holding her form as close as he could for just a moment, panting hard.
Jack opened his eyes just enough to see out of his window, the moon shining through, the sky littered with stars and the knowledge that somewhere out there her people were waiting for her to rescue them. He felt like he was a part of that mission, her grief, her desire, her determination to finish what was started, it was his as well.
He could hear Ova’s stuttered breathing as she took in what he felt as well. For a moment they were and the same person, with the same needs and wants, the same mission.
Jack allowed her to move over him, her hips rolling over his and every time she did, a bolt of desire and weakness shot through his body. She was perfectly made to fit with him, perfectly made for him to worship and he never wanted to know anything else.
He helped her reach another climax, he was close himself, but he couldn’t let this be over so soon. Jack took a moment to calm down, breathing deeply while he watching her blissful face recover a little. He didn’t know if he had the restraint to do that again and not follow her over the edge.
He moved them both so he was back on top of her, bringing her leg up so that it wrapped around him, he held her hip with one hand and cradled her face with the other, looking deep into her eyes as he rolled his hips into her slowly.
Ova’s eyes never left his as they breathed together, making love to each other, knowing that this was all that mattered. Jack could feel himself getting close, he whispered her name, placing a light kiss to her lips as he picked up the pace.
He could feel her clenching around him and knew if he could just hold out a little longer then they would come together. Ova’s nails dug into his back and it only spurred him on to thrust harder into her, hear her moans and quiet ‘yes’ as he pushed himself deeper and deeper.
‘Ova.’ Jack groaned and felt her come around him once more. He kissed her hard and his thrusts became stuttered as he tried to make the high last as long as possible for them both.
He let his head drop to her shoulder as he tried to regain control of his breathing, he inhaled her scent with every breath and never felt like he was alone for a single second, not while she was there and not while they were still a part of each other.
