Mha fandom when you say that Izuku’s biggest fic mischaracterization isn’t making him twinky:
Tumblr media
WHEN DID BEING A TWINK BECOME A BAD THING CAN I JUST ASK THAT
Like yes, twinkifying one male character in a ship can be annoying—it can perpetuate heterosexual roles onto same sex relationships (“who’s the woman in the relationship/who wears the pants in the relationship?”), BUT LET US BE CLEAR:
TWINKS ARE A PART OF THE QUEER COMMUNITY. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING A TWINK, MAKING A CHARACTER A TWINK, OR SEEING A CHARACTER AS A TWINK.
WHEN in the ever loving FUCK did that somehow translate into “the twink has to be the stereotypically aggressive one so it doesn’t abide by queer stereotypes”. HOW DID WE GET HERE.

BnHA One-Shot Fic Recs (pt2)
I AM HERE! With more recs for you! The last post was all about DadMight, such a beautiful genre *wipes tear from eye* This time its DADZAWA! if you happen to follow me, you might know that i really really(really) love Aizawa. a lot. So im going to try to keep this to only 10 recs, but,, well,,,, we’ll see anyway leTS GO
Aches and Pains by Badwolf36 Rating: G     Category: Gen     ~2700 words Summary: In which Izuku isn't willing to admit how much pain he's in, and Mr. Aizawa is just as much of a softie for his students as he always is. I’m always SO WEAK to stories that deal with the very real consequences of breaking all of your bones. Poor Izuku. I enjoyed the details of how he’s feeling, the way that the reader’s awareness of his pain waxes and wanes along with Izuku’s (temporary distractions can only do so much, A+ for realism there). Also, soft Dadzawa while not mushy-ooc-Aizawa! Conclusion: I love this and also want Aizawa to make me hot cocoa when there’s storms and i cant sleep!! (sidenote, everytime i see this username my brain shorts out bc my old ff.net account was also Badwolf## lol)
My Neighbor Shouta-ro by Hound_of_Heaven Rating: G     Category: Gen     ~2,700 words Summary: Yamada Hizashi, on Christmas Eve of the year he turns 19, jokingly presents Aizawa Shouta, also 19, with a Totoro kigurumi. Everything that follows after is pure chance. Heeeeeeeeeck this is ADORABLE. I- You guys- this is so pure and so precious and so!! go read it, i died. such fluff.
constrained by my own mind (im not fine) by CamsthiSky (tumblr: @camsthisky ) Rating: G     Category: Gen     ~1,500 words Summary: Midoriya Izuku is a problem child, and for some reason, Aizawa Shouta cares too much to let him fend for himself when the kid is obviously dealing with something First of all this is written by one of my fav Batfam writers!!! I was so hype when i saw this posted and OF COURSE IT WAS JUST AS WONDERFUL IF NOT MORE SO THAN I EXPECTED!!!! A+++++ in character for both Izuku and Aizawa. Izuku is jumpy and anxious and stressed and i love it. That the way Izuku started out, and while i am eternally happy at how much his life and social reactions have already changed, stuff like that doesnt just disappear in even a year, so I love fics that address that and expound on all the progress that he would have to make behind the scenes. and having Aizawa as the catalyst to begin getting actual help? *chef’s kiss* This checks boxes and then proceeds to cover the page in checkmarks LOL
remember from here on in by aloneintherain (tumblr: @captainkirkk ) Rating: T     Category: Gen     ~8000 words warning: spoiler heavy from manga chp 215 Summary: Aizawa glances from All Might to Midoriya quickly. It sounds impossible—he’s never heard of a quirk that can be handed down like a family heirloom—but at the same time, it makes perfect sense. Midoriya’s inability to use his quirk at the start of the year. The strange, familial relationship between All Might and Midoriya. The slow malnourishment of All Might’s body, like his power was being siphoned away. “You’re …” Aizawa begins.“I’m All Might’s successor.” Midoriya’s proud but shaky voice rings clearly down the empty corridor. Aizawa finds out about One for All. Awwwwwwww yiiiiiiiissssssssss!!!!! reveal fic!!!! one of my all time fav tropes!!! Plus it expounds on some future theorys/possibilities(Spoilers!!!) and you get some great interactions between Izuku and Shinsou, and plenty of opportunities taken to wear out our already worn out catepillar-sensei. poor guy needs a break but would do anything for these kids. Incredible characterization, great feels!!
Those Hardest to Love Need it Most by DancingintheStorm Rating: T     Category: Gen     ~8,200 words Summary: Shouta gripped the phone tight enough to make the phone case groan. “So it’s true. Midoriya was Quirkless.”“Until soon before the entrance exam,” Nedzu confirmed. “That’s not relevant now, though, because—““Relevant?” Shouta hissed. “Midoriya is barely functional, socially. He doesn’t trust any adult. He thinks the whole world hates him. He apologizes for everything except breaking the law, and I’m sure I can trace every single one of those things back to his Quirklessness. You call that irrelevant?”  Aizawa visits Aldera Junior High and finds out some disturbing truths. Yes. Just. Yes. Righteous anger abounds, local anxiety-child is told for the first time that his life has worth, more at 10 (I LOVE THIS ONEEE)
The Gaunlet and friendships and how memes tie the two together by averypassionateperson Rating: T     Category: Gen     ~3,500 words Summary: Shinsou walks into his first day in the Hero Course hoping to get politely ignored. He walks out having gotten into a sanctioned fistfight with the entire Bakusquad and a whole lot of new friendships. Also, memes are responsible for most of this. This fic is SOOOOOOOOO much fun. Always sure to bring a smile and honestly all I could want from a fic about Shinsou’s first day in 1A!!!
like light through a window by achievingelysium   (tumblr: @queenangst ) Rating: T     Category: Gen     1,139 words Summary: The first time Shouta sees what Hagakure looks like, it’s because she’s covered in blood. Coming from one of the best Dadzawa writers around, is a delightfully haunting fic centered on Hagakure!! The Dazawa is of course, spot on, the premise makes your heart ache as it plays out like a movie in your mind. So smooth to read, while so emotionally painful. Ouch. It is a fic with imagery that has stuck in my mind like a plant with deep roots, bc i keep thinking about it despite my too-much-fanfic-reading-adhd-muddled-brain. I feel like i had more to say but tumglr erased the paragraph i had originally written. D:   (side note, as i am keeping these posts to 10 fics... this fic came from her series of 30 min fics which you can find here on tumblr ao3  its an absolute goldmine of one-shots, go check it out)
a frozen pond, dark and deep by walking_through_autumn Rating: T     Category: Gen     ~3,800 words Summary: In the aftermath of Endeavour's battle against High End, Aizawa escorts Todoroki to his home for special leave, and they have a conversation that has been long in the making. (Or: Over two car rides and the mystery known as bubble tea, Aizawa divulges information, Todoroki returns the favour, and trust is built over unexpected similarities.) This fic felt just as quiet as the two characters it surrounds, which was really nice. Even deep emotional grieving can be quiet, since everyone feels things and reacts to things differently. It was a brilliant way to chip away at these character’s walls to let light shine through without creating an earthquake event to destroy the walls completely, you know? and it works off of canon so well. ah yes seeing the process of Aizawa realizing that hes has adopted another child is my fav    anyhow i enjoyed it very much!
but still my heart is heavy (with the hate of some other man’s beliefs) by honeyandsunshine Rating: T     Category: Gen     ~3,500 words Summary: Nemuri jerks a thumb to the side window, presumably the one with the best view of the front gates. When Shouta looks, a small crowd, all of which he can recognize from his class, are gathered around a sleazy looking man with a camera and a microphone. Half their quirks are activated. Bakugou and Todoroki are smoking. From the bushes nearby, a rather enraged stag emerges. As he gets up, Shouta just hopes they haven’t already killed him. Or:Class 1-A defends their own. Aizawa suffers, but looks after them anyways. I love how this doesn’t go the way you expect it to. and how much Aizawa loves and trusts his class full of gremlin heroes. The Dadzawa is so soft, his logic is sound, my heart aches, and i kinda want to cry. really, really, really great you guys
bend, don’t break by heyhamlet (tumblr: @hey-hamlet ) Rating: T     Category: Gen     ~4,100 words Summary: It started, as it always seemed to, on what was supposed to be a pleasant day. ---A Christmas shopping attempt gone wrong, Aizawa and Midoriya have to survive a strange nightmare quirk, all while trying to work out how to get out of there alive. Aizawa is injured, Midoriya is panicked. It's less a question of what could go wrong, but more what could go right. Another fic that has not left my soul since i read it. Some of it is truly terrifying in a way that I hope never haunts my own nightmares. and honestly isnt that reason enough to read it? While near death experiences bond people together well, nothing beats being trapped with someone in a nightmare that is feeding off of your deepest fears! If Aizawa wasn’t considering adoption before, he certainly is now. Found family before the monster finds you...0.o go read it, its a treat from another top notch writer!
well, thats 10! the next post will probably be misc. bnha one-shots. Enjoy and don’t forget to give the writers your souls love and comments!

Welcome to the Ride
So I have a bit of a past time where I go into a fandom page on a03, no filters, and look up the highest word counted stories. For funsies. Sometimes scarring, occasionally bizarre, always fun to point out to friends who did not understand the depths of the internet and I have now ruined them.
Enter if you dare.
 1st fandom: Harry Potter
With 2,300,260 words in first place we have...
Ascension Book 2: Eternal -  Set two years after Book One, the rise to the top continues for Harry Potter as new challenges, new allies, and new women are brought before him. Harry/Kara/Karen/Faora/Diana/Multi.
Strangely I have noticed that a lot of high word count stories are often harems. Not sure why. Nevertheless I avoid this one with fear in my veins.
In second place, with 1,997,281 words we have.....
A Second Chance -  What if Sirius didn't spent twelve years in prison, but was given a trial after four years? Follow the story of Sirius Black as he learns what it means to be a father/brother/guardian to his young godson & the story of Harry Potter, a young boy with a loving home who learns about the Marauders from the two men who should have raised him. M for later. Eventual Hinny.
Tamer than I was expecting from the higher word counts. Put off by the tags being relationship followed by, characters, sex tags, heavy trauma tags, lighter tags, sex tags. There is a lot of sex tags for a story that should be about raising a kid.
In third place with 1,486,621 words we have.....
Fragmented Soul -  When Voldemort attacks and kills the Potters, Snape decides he wants to keep the one remaining piece of Lily, her son, for himself. But keeping Harry safe and away from the world has unexpected consequences that no-one could have predicted. Fenrir/Harry relationship.
Not touching that one with a ten foot pole. This is more of what I was expecting from the higher word counts. On to fandom number three.
2nd Fandom: My Hero Academia
In first place with 1,413,292 word we have.....
Melodies Of A Wild Tiger(Katsuki x Reader ) - Do You like Bakugou Katsuki from BNHA? Do you constantly want to jump that fine toned booty? Well look no further, this is where all your wet and wild dreams will come true~! :D This is a collection of one shots to the occasional mini series with more than one part. Most of the stories will focus on Bakugou Katsuki, but sometimes I might mix in another character I feel like writing about.
Explains itself well. Just a smut collection. Dedicated as fuck though for that word count.
In second place with 912,540 word we have....
The Wards of UA - 27’s throat tightens, as if any words he could have thought to say are trapped there. If it weren’t for Memory’s nails digging into his wrist, he would probably have stood there all night, trying to understand what they wanted him to do. Use his quirk on a child. A tiny, frightened child. He kneels down, trying to get her to look him in the eye, to make some kind of connection. Anything to try and make her answer. “D-do you want to go away? Do you want to go somewhere safe?” Her eyes open, slowly, and the sobbing slows enough that she isn’t shaking with it quite as much. Her hands are lowering from her mouth. Uh-huh.” Her voice, so small and hoarse, is all he needs. He feels the quirk trap around her mind, and her eyes fade from red to white, hands dropping slack by her side.
Veeeeery angsty. Also still pretty tame for the higher word counts. I almost don’t trust it but it honestly seems safe enough.
In third place with 737,137 words we have....
To Be A Hero - Izuku Midoriya wanted to be a hero, that's all he wanted. Even if he didn't have a quirk, even if the whole world seemed against him, this was the dream he chose but seemed so far from his reach. However, this all changed from two fateful encounters. One of them was with All Might, who offered Izuku the chance to become a hero. But the other was someone who witnessed this offer. This was Enso Ureshi, a boy with a mysterious past who claimed that Izuku was much more special than he thought himself to be. After a surprising compromise, Izuku sets off on an adventure to become the hero he wishes to be, with Enso by his side. But exactly who is Enso? Why did he suddenly choose to help Izuku on his path? Who was the mysterious threat that he mentioned would soon come upon their world? And what was so special about Izuku in the first place? (Izuku x harem)
There’s the harem. This one at least doesn’t look like alpha male power fantasy like the other earlier one. Maybe more along the line of anime male protagonist that somehow convinces a bunch of women that he is the shit completely unrealistically. Fandom number three and last of the night.
3rd Fandom: Naruto
In first place with 3,593,742 words we have....
The Longest Piece of Literature :>  -  Pretty much tryin to write the longest piece of literature on ao3. (Wish me luck) (I'll really need it).
Okay this one made me giggle. Every chapter is an anime name title. Then the name is just repeated over and over and over again. There’s only 40 chapters. I’m reluctantly impressed and very concerned.
In second place with 2,117,408 words we have....
eroninja - No Summary but from what I could glean from my glance of the first chapter it is, once again, Man gets all female harem in slightly dishonest and unbelievable ways. Seriously I feel like I should have a saying at this point for large word counts that attract male power fantasy harem.
In third place with 1,844,932 words is....in a language I don’t know therefore I can’t judge so let’s skip to fourth place. With 1,329,164 words we have....
Harbinger - It may not be so great, Naruto thought: that big shinobi career. His friends have intonated that sentiment as well. For example, despite Haku’s concerted efforts to locate and connect with his long lost clan and Hyoton-kin, he will probably find out he was meant to be their janitor or something. Gaara is Kazekage now, Naruto also noted, but Gaara said there’s no glamour in 8 straight hours of paperwork a day. The eye-bags are getting worse, his friend claimed. Jiraiya asserted his confidence in them all becoming Kage someday. Supposing that, Naruto kindly reminded him, they managed to survive the Akatsuki’s next visit.
Honestly from tags and summary alone I think this might be..... actually good? Lengthy read but it sounds slightly interesting. Have no fucking time unfortunately. If anyone gives it a read tell me if it’s worth it.
So that’s it for today. Mix of possible good, nope, and porn as usual.
Will probably update later.

Ahh I’m so sorry that happened! But here’s me, asking for your project details again lol
(Man I hate Tumblr a lot these days... Copy and paste here we go)
Oh buddy, you’re getting a real treat today. I’m putting this under a cut because it’ll be quite long. Enjoy!! All songs have a link included so you can listen to them. (Here’s a preview)
Ships Included:
DabiHawks
TodoDeku
ShinDeku
(Very possible TodoShinDeku)
Single Character Studies Included:
Dabi/Touya
Shouto
(Villain) Izuku
Ship Based Fics:
What A Time (Trilogy):
For this one, I won’t give too much detail because it’s already being written but I will give the general overview
A Hawks Betrayal and Dabi/Touya Rehabilitation concept. Also a mix between a ship based fic and a character study of Dabi
Part 1: [Already posted!! Read here if you’d like] Deals with the immediate aftermath of Hawks betraying the league and getting them all arrested. From Dabi’s POV (the entire trilogy is in Dabi’s POV) he begins to question his and Hawks’ relationship while Hawks is a mere ten feet away acting like they don’t even acknowledge each other’s existence. Maybe 65% angst due to present times and 35% fluff due to flashbacks
Part 2: A few months after Dabi began his rehabilitation. Discusses his therapy, goes into more detail about what exactly the rehabilitation program entails, and Dabi has a major breakdown due to an unexpected visit from Hawks. 100% angst, there is no happiness in this installment.
Part 3: About a year and a half after the league was arrested and Dabi Touya began his rehabilitation. He’s doing a lot better, both mentally and physically, and is slowly accepting his new life. Hawks in under major fire in the news, and Touya decides maybe it’s finally time to talk things out. I’m estimating about 25% angst and 75% fluff for this installment because I’m putting these boys through the wringer, they deserve to be soft. (Also, happy ending guaranteed)
Before You Go:
A childhood friends AU where Keigo and Touya are part of the same hero program. They become good friends and are practically inseparable until Touya has a training accident and is presumed dead (by accidental suicide).
I’ve actually already talked about this in much more detail in this post here so you can just read that. That post is also quite long
Rewrite the Stars:
I’m gonna call out @call1998 because I just woke up one day, sent her this song, and said that it’s such a DabiHawks song. And then we created a fantastic soulmate AU together so she helped co-create this idea <3
So, as I said, this is a soulmate AU, but DabiHawks are not each other’s soulmate.
Hawks met his soulmate back when they were kids. Merely 12 years old and under the commission’s care because they were both part of their hero program. Hawks was the one to notice first, getting excited when he met his soulmate and wanting to get to know him. But they only got that one day together, because the next day his soulmate was gone and never to be heard from again. The commission had him believe that his soulmate moved to America and entered a different specialized program, but Hawks finds out the truth when he’s around 20 years old and snooping around the commission. He finds old files that they wanted buried, and he learns the commission actually killed his soulmate because they saw them as weaknesses, and since Hawks was the “better specimen” he was allowed to live.
Dabi’s soulmate is an abuser who works for the commission. And since Dabi is Touya, of course, he grew up watching his mother be abused by her own soulmate and thought “oh hell no.” After Dabi meets his soulmate and realizes how abusive he is (not only to him but also the wife and kids his soulmate already has) Dabi tricks him into believing Dabi actually likes him. When he’s able to, he brings his soulmate back to the league and has him turned into a Nomu, because while he’s an abusive piece of shit, his quirk is really powerful and could be of use to the league.
Now, for the DabiHawks part. Their relationship is more of a friends with benefits ordeal, but of course they wind up falling in love eventually. They never mention their soulmates until one day, after a mission left them both tired, Hawks decides to confess. He’s sitting behind Dabi, applying a special salve to the fresh burns that Dabi can’t reach himself because he can’t bring himself to confess if he’s able to be seen. When his feelings are finally out in the open, the only thing Dabi asks is “What about your soulmate?” Hawks recognizes it’s not a flat out rejection so some of the tension in his shoulders dissipates, and he tells Dabi how they met when they were just kids and how cruel the commission is for killing him off, solely to groom the perfect hero.
And Dabi? He’s vulnerable and hesitant, because the man he was supposed to “end up with” was a garbage piece of human trash, so he’s reluctant. And self deprecating, because he doesn’t believe he deserves to be loved. So he tells Hawks about how he killed his soulmate, omitting the very important fact that his soulmate was abusive just like his father was to his mother. And he uses it to try and drive Hawks away. But the thing is, Hawks knows that Dabi is a critical thinker and wouldn’t act without reason, that all of his actions have a purpose. So after that night, he searches. They don’t touch again, either, their meetings reverting back to being strict information swaps, but it only drives Hawks to uncover the truth. And he finds it, and he even remembers who Dabi’s soulmate was because he was one of the people in charge of the program that Hawks grew up in. But he keeps it to himself, he has to make sense of things first.
Then one night comes, where Hawks just has to let Dabi know, let him know that he’s not the bad guy he’s trying to paint himself to be. But when Hawks reveals what he knows, Dabi just tries to deny everything, because he truly doesn’t want to talk about this. And then he snaps, yells at Hawks about how he witnessed the abuse his mother went through, how his father broke her in more ways than one, how he vowed to never allow someone to do the same to him. That he accepted the fact that he was meant to wind up alone after he killed his soulmate because the universe is a cruel place to once kind people.
Hawks is having none of that, though. He stops Dabi, tells him he doesn’t have to be alone anymore, that they’re not explicitly tied to “fate” anymore and can in fact rewrite their own story. It takes a lot of back and forth between them, but ultimately Hawks’ end goal is convincing Dabi that they, the two of them who no longer have a soulmate, are no longer tied to whatever fate was “chosen” for them. That they’re free to go their own route, carve out their own lives how they see fit. And eventually, Dabi gives in, because in truth they both know that they love each other, so why not give it a go?
More Hearts Than Mine/Like We Used To (duology):
Okay, this duology is centered around both Shindeku and Tododeku and in the end one of y’all is gonna hate me and I’m okay with that. As a multishipper, it is so hard for me to chose which ship gets tanked in the end I’m so sorry. ((But honestly, I high key have thought about ending it with all three of them being in a poly relationship and like, ya girl likes poly. It’ll most likely happen to be completely honest))
Also, quirkless AU!!
MHTM: This is the first half of the duology. In this half, it depicts the rise and eventual fall of Izuku’s initial relationship (either with Hitoshi or Shouto, it’s so far undecided). They get together, fall in love, and genuinely have a good relationship, but it all goes downhill when they eventually have to break up due to different life interests and Izuku’s boyfriend having to move away for a few years. They knew long distance wouldn’t work, so they decided to end the relationship, and this fic ends with the aftermath of their breakup and how not only Izuku, but also his mother and step father are hurt by the breakup.
LWUT: In the second half of this duology, this fic will be from the perspective of whichever boyfriend had to end things with Izuku. He returns from his travels a few years later, but he doesn’t tell Izuku just yet. Instead, he’s trying to deal with being back and constantly reminiscing what once was. One day, while getting coffee, he sees Izuku and his new boyfriend sitting at a corner booth and overall acting very in love. And it hurts, seeing Izuku with someone else, and he gets jealous. But as the fic continues, he eventually comes to terms with the fact that him and Izuku did fall in love, but at the wrong time and while they may not ever get a chance again, he just hopes Izuku is happy with his new boyfriend. (And then they meet again at that same coffee shop, and Izuku realizes his first love is back in town and invites him to sit with them. And he does, and it’s awkward, but when Izuku’s current boyfriend leaves to use the restroom, he tells Izuku that he’s glad he found someone. And this is only the beginning of the start of all three dating because while writing this out I’ve decided, yea, I like happy endings too much so they all three fall in love.)
Single Character Study Fics:
King for a Day (warning, kind of screamo):
Dabi/Touya character study.
He’s already a villain at this point, and this fic would be a character study of his feelings throughout his mental collapse, his rise as Dabi, and his thirst for revenge.
I actually don’t have as much for this idea compared to some of the other songs on here, but the basic outline is almost your standard “Touya died then became Dabi, his mental stability is compromised, and his primary goal is bringing down Endeavor”. This song is actually more of a “hey this fits a story that already exists” than using it to create one, that’s why I don’t have much on it.
I do, however, want to share my favorite line that I’ve matched with a scene. “Dying is a gift so close your eyes and rest in piece.” Dabi says this to Endeavor because he believes he deserves to live the rest of his life rotting away in prison, but he has to kill Endeavor to make sure he gets punished. Since Endeavor is rich and famous, he could probably get out of prison with minimal damage to his reputation and life, and what would be the point then? So Dabi believes he has to die.
Modern Loneliness:
Shouto character study.
The title alone I think suits Shouto fairly well, but if you listen to the song it’s about felling alone in a room full of people. About not knowing how to connect to others. The first line alone is very much in line with Shouto. “I’ve been thinking ‘bout my father lately, the person that he made me, the person I’ve become.” I don’t even need to tell you why that line fits so well.
So this fic would be centered around the time the UA students move into the dorms, because I feel that Shouto would still be wary and not understand how to truly connect with his classmates. In the end, eventually he’d come to find that it takes two to put in the effort a relationship requires, and though it’s new and scary, he’s willing to do it.
Let Me Be Myself:
Another Shouto character study.
Again, the title alone already very heavily aligns with Shouto’s character. And, as we all already know, Shouto hates when people compare him to his father or only acknowledge him as his father’s son, and this song is about being allowed to break free from past restraints in order to live your life how you see fit.
With Izuku’s help, Shouto is able to come to this realization sooner and grow the confidence needed to finally fight back and regain control of his own life.
Lovely:
Villain!Deku character study.
I’m not even gonna lie, I saw that multiple people have done animatics of this exact concept and it’s very intriguing to me. I’ve never written villain Izuku so I think it’d be interesting to explore that kind of mindset.
That being said, I just wrote down “villain Deku = lovely” in my phone’s notes and never actually plotted anything so I have nothing more to share on this
And that’s it so far!! Realistically, I probably won’t get around to all of these, and it would take me forever to actually make a dent in this, but I’m having a lot of fun with this project. Also, these don’t go into nearly as much depth as my notes, because I basically annotate these songs in order to create an outline so, this is like the lite version.

It should have been an easy day. Izuku woke before his alarm and the sun is shining, he’d even snagged the last spicy pork bun at the stall he usually stops at for breakfast. It’s a simple enough plan: they’ve been tracking the source of several riots that have occurred in the recent weeks and came to the conclusion it had to be a quirk. The lack of memory from the riot victims, no traces of chemicals or any environmental causes found, and the spontaneous explosion of violence that preceded each event narrowed possible inciting incident quite a bit. Then in reviewing security footage of the events, a single, fire-red head was spotted floating in and out of the chaos at each location. My Hero Academia Season 5 Episode 3 Review: Clash! Class A vs. Class B!
https://ift.tt/3aAfe9n
This My Hero Academia review contains spoilers.
My Hero Academia Season 5 Episode 3
“You’re not alone.”
Each season of My Hero Academia is structured around a major story arc that ideally brings Izuku Midoriya and company closer to their goal of becoming professional heroes. The anime has a tendency to rotate between arcs that involve rampaging villains or the continued training and competitions between U.A. High’s heroes. “Clash! Class A vs. Class B!” officially kicks off My Hero Academia’s Joint Training Arc, which allows Midoriya and the rest of Class 1-A to intermingle with Class 1-B’s students.
Class 1-B has lurked in the background throughout the anime’s first four seasons and a select few characters like Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu and Itsuka Kendo have already made an impression. A major perk to these episodes is that it’s genuinely exciting to see these familiar faces return. There are so many characters in this anime and it’s not uncommon for someone to vanish and never be seen again or simply get forgotten. It’s reinvigorating for these seemingly abandoned characters to now play major roles and it retroactively makes My Hero Academia’s narrative seem that much bigger since this reunion has been teased since season two.
It’s a big shift to suddenly have the series manage an additional two-dozen characters, but it gives My Hero Academia a restorative burst of energy that helps make this U.A. High material feel more exciting than tedious. This extension to My Hero Academia’s roster does succumb to some exposition that surrounds these characters, but it’s implemented naturally and doesn’t drag “Class A vs. Class B!” to a halt.
Part of the fun with these new characters is that there are definitely Class 1-B students that feel like bizarro versions of some of Class 1-A, but they’re not just a direct reflection of the heroes that we’ve grown to love. These similarities are meant to create tension or camaraderie between the two groups of heroes and there are also individuals like Manga Fukidashi and Kojiro Bondo that feel wholly distinct from anyone out of Class 1-A.
Another compelling wrinkle to all of this is that the focus on Class 1-B is meant to highlight a new group of allies, but the real standout in “Clash! Class A vs. Class B!” is Hitoshi Shinso, from Class 1-C. Hitoshi Shinso first appeared during the height of the Sports Festival when he faced off against Midoriya and it seems that he’s more determined than ever to break through the ranks of Classes 1-A and 1-B. Midoriya can’t wait to see how much Shinso’s powers have improved and this season is already positioning him to play a major role in what’s to come.
“You are not alone,” is a message that’s conveyed to Midoriya in relation to his One For All Quirk, but the sentiment is arguably even more applicable to Hitsho Shinso. He’s welcomed in with open arms and is ready to prove that he deserves this opportunity. He’s from Class 1-C, but his desire to fit in and be the very best is an ideology that’s held by every student at U.A. High.
Hitoshi Shinso seems primed to become an important hero, but the mystery around him should not be underestimated, especially when this season has already introduced concepts like traitors and double-agents. There are obvious similarities between Shinso and Shota Aizawa, right down to their attire, but he also bears a strange resemblance to Tomura Shigaraki. Shinso as Shigaraki’s illegitimate child would be a fascninating development and very on brand with the other ideas that this season is currently exploring.
It’s still very late in the game to introduce a surprise of this level and it’d likely cause more eyes to roll in dismissal than widen in excitement. It also seems highly implausible that U.A. High doesn’t have a competent vetting process to learn about Shinso’s history. Shinso likely isn’t evil, but he should still be a fascinating wild card through this season. His Brainwashing Quirk is the perfect ability for a villain and if he’s not aligned with Shigaraki then he might become his next target because the League of Villains could accomplish a lot with that Quirk.
Shinso’s casual demeanor makes him an early favorite between both classes and he’s turned into a rogue element in this competitive training exercise. Classes 1-A and 1-B are divided into teams of four students, but one group will have Shinso added to their party. This is one of the more interesting elements to the proceedings so far since Shinso can be viewed as a beneficial additional teammate, but also a liability since he’s a hero that no one has any experience working with before. “Class A vs. Class B!” lays out the logistics for this massive competition, but the action doesn’t begin until the episode’s final act when only a few minutes remain.
“Clash! Class A vs. Class B!” is light on combat, but the episode’s strength lies in how it prioritizes this unruly cast of characters. The battles barely begin this week, but the teams are divided in a way that shows off certain Class 1-A students that have increasingly receded into the background, like Momo, Fumikage, and Tsuyu. This arc also wisely separates most of 1-A’s most prominent heroes so that characters like Midoriya, Bakugo, and Iida are all on individual teams and not just grouped together. It’s exciting that this season won’t just spotlight Class 1-B’s heroes, but also some of the worthy underdogs in 1-A.

An unexpected element to this clash between classes is that many of these characters have lingering trauma from their previous showdown during the Sports Festival. It helps give that old material greater significance now that the fallout from it informs the current relationships in this joint training exercise. I also really love that there’s a callback to the super peaceful School Festival from the end of season four.
Class 1-B recontextualizes this sweet achievement for Class 1-A with the knowledge that Class 1-B’s absurdist pandering play technically won the School Festival. These characters all have legitimate powers and accomplishments to fall back on, but it’s ridiculous in the best way possible that this previous incident of fun and games becomes part of the catalyst that sets 1-A and 1-B at odds with each other when their mock fight begins.
Midoriya is eager to show off his skills and get another shot at Hitoshi Shinso, but he also can’t fully move on from the past. His prophetic One For All dream continues to haunt him and his discussion over the experience with All Might reintroduces the idea that One For All is a Quirk that’s actually sentient, to some extent. The war between “feelings” and “power” is addressed in response to Midoriya’s Quirk and the “impossible dream” that it teases. Midoriya has a decent understanding of this concept, but it’s still a difficult lesson for many heroes to comprehend.
Midoriya is forced to spin in circles with his thoughts, but the biggest insight that both he and All Might reach is in relation to the morbid “Quirk Singularity Doomsday Theory.” This is a principle wherein a parent passes down an even more powerful and destructive Quirk to their offspring and that this generational process can be just as much of a way to genetically manipulate and corner the superhero market as it is a way to organically create a family. Children naturally relate to the idea of a character’s legacy living on through their descendants, but the “Quirk Singularity Doomsday Theory” takes this same inspiring premise and turns it into an extensive form of brainwashing and manipulation.
Endeavor is in the process of turning his reputation around, but it’s crucial to remember that he’s been candid over how Shoto’s birth was largely just a cruel bargaining tool in his long-running strategy to surpass All Might as the Number One Hero. Both Endeavor and Shoto have grown beyond this point, but this disturbing Quirk theory gains more weight when there are already practical examples in My Hero Academia that can be looked at.
My Hero Academia’s fifth season seems most interested with this principle in relation to the original One For All and All For One, but the theme of “vestiges” is already entrenched in so many aspects of this new season. Hopefully this season will continue to unpack the fine line between creation and destruction and the fluid nature behind the duality of heroes and villains.
“Clash! Class A vs. Class B!” sets up promising developments, but the episode flies by and once the credits start to roll it feels like barely anything has happened. The very beginning of the first fight gets teased, but it’s easy to picture a more efficient version of this installment that actually concludes the first fight and sets up the second. “Class A vs Class B!” covers a lot of the same material from the previous episode when it comes to Deku’s dilemma and it even feels like a recap at times.
Midoriya’s concerns over his connection to One For All also don’t make for the smoothest of transitions into the training material. It’s possible that this episode could have more substance to it if the One For All saga was condensed to last week’s entry or at least heavily reduced here. It’s clearly not the end of that story, but its focus here just drains the rest of the episode’s momentum.
Of course, once it’s clear how long this Joint Training Arc is supposed to last it will be easier to assess the effectiveness of the pacing in these earlier episodes. At this point it’s unclear if season five will cram several battles into each episode or if the plan is to let these encounters properly breathe and devote at least one installment to each battle.
This is inherently part of the problem with training and tournament arcs, but My Hero Academia has gone through this type of material enough times now that they should have a good sense on how to plot out the first half of this season. “Clash! Class A vs. Class B!” is light, fun, and consistently entertaining, but there’s a feeling of emptiness when it’s over.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
This episode is one big reunion between two groups of powerhouses, but these heroes can finally prove how much they’ve grown now that the pleasantries, peacocking, and introductions are over.

une balle un mort - prologue
Midoriya Izuku was raised by the Yuuei Institute to be the perfect assassin: unfeeling and obeying. Brainwashed from age 4, he bent to every whim and desire his senseis wished, until the facade placed on him began to crack and shatter. Now, 20 years later, he's on a mission to destroy the people that destroyed him, so nobody ever has to suffer at their hands again--but doing so requires the help of a childhood friend turned CIA rival.
Pairing: Midoriya Izuku/Bakugou Katsuki
Rating: M
Warnings: Minor Character Death (!!), Assassination, Guns

High priority target, security on high alert. Four on the ground, three on the target rooftop, two on the neighbouring ones.
Izuku watches as the crowd gathered in the plaza a few buildings over grows restless at having to wait so long for their Symbol of Peace to take the stand. He watches the men clad in black as they pace the top of the buildings closest to where the event was taking place.
Ground security is highly trained, but they shouldn't be a problem. Target will be dead before they arrive. Roof security is significantly weaker. Just regular event security guards and not trained professionals. Too easy.
Izuku returns back inside the building and enters the hideout room his partner was set up in. Kyouka keeps her eyes set on the CCTV monitors throughout the area, as well as the hidden cameras set up long before the event. She makes no acknowledgement of his arrival, silently handing him the ammo pack he'd left on the table next to her.
"Don't disable the security channels until I give the go ahead."
"I know what I'm doing, Deku. Be careful this time. There's no backup here that can save you if you get into trouble." Kyouka warns, eyes flitting to him briefly before returning to the screens.
Izuku nods, loading up the cartridge into the rifle and equipping all the gear he'd brought along without leaving a single piece behind. If everything went according to plan, or even if it didn't , they'll need to make a quick escape so as not to get caught. He gives Kyouka a quick farewell as he leaves, taking in a deep breath before climbing out onto the fire escape. He has five minutes to make it past the four buildings separating him and his prime location. Izuku closes the distance with a minute to spare and lies in wait amongst the shadows of the alleyway for his cue. The crowd gathered in the plaza begins an uproar as a figure makes their appearance on stage.
 "Now, Kyouka."
He shoots his grappling hook onto the edge of the building, steeling himself for what's about to come next. The guards thankfully don't notice his silent arrival, though a small part of him wishes they did. It's been a long time since something interesting happened on the job.
Izuku slinks behind the door to the roof, easily catching a passing guard and stifling his cries for help. He knocks the man out cold with an apology, waiting for the next one.
"Did you hear that?" The larger of the guards asks.
"Hear what? I can't hear a damn thing over the ruckus below." The smaller one answers with a scoff.
The larger man grunts in suspicion, making his way over to where Izuku is hiding. As soon as he's close enough, Izuku comes out with a swift swing from his right hand to knock the man off his feet.
"Sorry about this." He says, averting his eyes as he bashes the butt of his rifle against the man's head. He needs to be sure his work won't be interrupted anytime soon, and this was the one of the three that posed the biggest threat to his mission.
The last security guard turns and spies Izuku, swiftly drawing his pistol. "You're not supposed to be here."
Izuku chuckles under his breath at how hard the man is trying to keep his calm composure. Must be a rookie.
"Come out where I can see you." The man demands, voice betraying his words as they crack.
Izuku tosses a metal can to the opposite side of the roof to divert the guard's attention. He slips out of his hiding spot and makes a quick run for the man, easily kicking the gun from his trembling hand.
"You're gonna want to put some ice on this." Izuku says apologetically and hits the man hard enough to hear his nose crack. He drags the man over to join the other two, binding them together with his capture tape and taping their mouths shut. Consider it insurance on his part.
Katsuki hadn’t planned on working tonight. All he wanted to do was enjoy a nice night out and watch All Might speak about fighting against the injustice in the world. Not that he particularly cared about his message or anything, but the guy had charisma and was quite the sight to watch.
All Might had just taken the stand when he noticed one of the stage guards shift minutely behind the Symbol of Peace and glance at the rooftops. Katsuki sucks in an annoyed breath, doing a quick once over towards the roof the bodyguard had looked at. His eyebrows knit together in suspicion. If he recalled the details about this security job that Kirishima was supposed to be working ground security on, there were supposed to be five rooftop guards on-alert for snipers.
Wait. On guard for snipers . There were plenty of amateur snipers that had attempted to take down All Might before, sure, but they were easily subdued before they’d even gotten to a good spot. If this was the guy he thought it was, there’s no way the average security bozos up top would be able to stop him.
Katsuki grits his teeth in annoyance as he pushes his way through the crowd and towards the guard-less building to start scaling the side of it.
Izuku shoots his grappling hook into the brick of the chimney, pulling once on it to check it was tight before wrapping it around his leg. He takes a steadying breath in before jumping off the edge, soundlessly stopping his descent so he could get in position. He flicks his visor on, keeping tabs on the six cameras that adorn both sides of his vision. Mei was a genius inventor all around, but none of her inventions ever compared to this headpiece, in his opinion.
Izuku zooms in on his scope, clicking one of the back buttons on his visor to activate the recon nodes set-up around the event so he could get an infrared view of the scene. He hovers his crosshair over All Might’s head, slowly moving his finger towards the trigger.
Deep breath. In, out. Keep your hand steady, don't take your eyes off the target even for a second.
“Well if it isn’t Deku . I haven’t seen you in a few months, shit for brains.” A rough voice calls out from the window beside him. A small smirk pulls at the corner of his lips.
Bakugou Katsuki. Izuku hasn’t seen him since his last big target hit was some political hot shot. He’d barely gotten away from the hot head’s grasp thanks to his partner, Tokoyami, being there and subduing him long enough for him to escape and get the shot off on their target. Katsuki was a wild card, a well-trained fighter that was molded into the monster he is today by a twisted sense of wanting to be the best, intense training, and a partnership with the American CIA. Katsuki has always made Izuku’s life a living hell, always one-upping him and thwarting all his missions in U.S. soil up until a few years ago when Izuku finally finished his analysis on the other.
Katsuki showing up was unexpected, but very much so welcome. It would appear he’d be getting the excitement he’d been looking for after all.
Izuku hits the release on his grappling hook, swinging into the window and crashing through it. Unlike his chaser, he’d studied the floor plan of this building meticulously. The window Katsuki stood in was for a small hotel room, while the one he’d crashed through was one that had a small waiting area just off the entrance to the stair case. Katsuki easily has twice his speed, and Katsuki knows it. He needs to act fast lest he get caught.
Izuku shoots his grappling hook onto the banister of the top floor and pulls up, setting his gun to autofire as he sets off with a kick on his way up. Katsuki manages to dodge the flurry of bullets as he chases him up the stairs, which Izuku was expecting. It’s not like he was particularly aiming at the other after all. He doesn’t want to kill anyone that doesn’t need to be killed.
“You’re not fucking getting away from me that easily!” Katsuki growls behind him, footsteps thundering through the hall.
He makes his break for the window, opened beforehand in-case he’d had to make an escape such as this, and makes a leap into the air. His grappling hook sails through the night sky and pulls him up to the neighbouring roof. Izuku spares no glance backwards as he knocks out a stunned guard with the force of his jump, using his foot to push the man’s head onto the ground to keep him knocked out as he lands. He makes a leap to the next roof, sweeping the last security guard’s feet out from under him. The man hits his head on the edge of a metal barrel on his descent down, much to his luck, so he doesn’t spare another second on them as he sends a few shots behind him at Katsuki to try and buy himself some more time.
The comm of his headpiece crackles in his ear as Kyouka’s voice cuts through clear as day. “Katsuki had a private channel with one of the stage guards. They’re aware of your presence on the roof and are escorting the target back to the car. You have a three minute window.”
Izuku growls as he jumps to the next roof, placing a small canister of sleeping gas on one of the boxes he passes by and leaps to the next one. He needs a plan and fast.
Laughter rings out behind him as the glass of his canister shatters, dispersing the gas into the air behind him. He knew Katsuki wasn’t stupid enough to blindly chase him without watching his surroundings, but he needed time to think. He just needed a few more--
“Are you underestimating me? I guess I’ll just have to beat another lesson into your scrawny ass.” Katsuki yells.
Izuku glances very briefly at the camera on the right of his visor to watch for Katsuki’s wind up of a grenade toss. Knowing him it should be... now .
Izuku turns around in an instant, crosshair already trained on the small projectile and firing a perfect shot into it, setting the grenade off and sending both of them into the air. The blowback was stronger than he was expecting, but all is not lost.
He’s hit mid-air shots before, is actually quite renowned for them, but isn’t sure he can make this one. All the others required exact timing and precision, heavily pre-meditated beforehand. He only has this one shot here and now otherwise this hit is a bust, so he’s out of options.
The target’s head lies directly behind his chaser. Izuku takes in a deep breath and aims directly at Katsuki's heart. He has no intention of pulling the trigger on him however, and, as expected, Katsuki curls inwards to dodge the bullet. As the shot sails through the air, Izuku pulls his gun lower to brace himself for the impact of landing, followed very closely by Katsuki who lands with a growl.
He watches as Katsuki does a quick pat down to check for blood and scrapes. The man laughs maniacally at him when he doesn't find any bullet wounds. "You fucking missed."
Izuku turns his back to the other, prepping his grappling hook for his departure. In the distance, he can hear the terrified and panicked screams of the crowd as their Symbol of Peace lays dead on the ground just mere inches from the door to his car, bullet passed cleanly through his forehead.
 "No, I didn't."
Let’s play cops and robbers! You can be the robber, and I’ll be the cop!
Why are you always the cop, Kacchan? I don’t mind being the robber, but I just wanna know.
Because I’m going to be a hero! Someone who saves people! So I gotta get practice in now so I can be the best at what I do when I’m all grown up.
You can practice with me all the time then! I’ll be the criminal for you to track down!
You’ll never beat me though, because the good guys always win in the end, and I’m the good guy.
Izuku shakes his head as the memory replays over and over in his mind as he disassembles his rifle to clean. Every time he ran into Katsuki, some sort of memory from when he was four, before all the brainwashing began, filters through his mind. Times when he was only being trained physically, when he could run free and feel the sun on his skin. He shivers at the memory, placing a hand on his cold and pale skin as if he could still feel the warmth of those days.
Stop looking out the window, Midoriya, and focus. You want to be the best, don’t you?
I want to see my friends.
You don’t have friends, Midoriya. They’re just using you so they can get to us. Don’t trust them.
  But Kaccha--
No, Midoriya. You’re not going to see this “Kacchan” again. Do you understand?
  Yes sir.
You’re a soldier now, and your duty is here.
  Yes sir.
Katsuki used to be his best friend. Yuuei ripped that away from him, and as more time passes it becomes more and more clear that he may never get to have Katsuki as a friend again. Not since Katsuki got picked up by the CIA due to his ties with Deku . He tries to cling onto hope that one day they might become close once again, perhaps he’s even been a little sloppy during his last missions to give the other breadcrumbs on where to find him so they can talk, but what little hope he has diminishes day by day.
Are you ready for your first mission, Deku?
  Yes sir.
Your first target is the someone the CIA has been grooming to work for them. He’s got a lot of talent but is too much of a wild card for us to take him in. We can’t have someone so strong working against us, so he needs to be taken out. Can you do that for us?
  Yes sir.
That’s our good boy. Go make us proud.
  Yes sir.
Izuku sets aside the main body of the gun to pick up the sniping barrel, wiping it down inside and out mindlessly.
“Funds have been transferred. Shigaraki thanks you for your assistance.” Momo remarks as she enters the room, reading glasses slipping down her nose as she stares at the tablet in front of her.
Izuku makes a grunt of acknowledgement. “Anything else of note?”
“We got a hit on the company you asked us to monitor. The head of the corporation is looking for a new secretary. Interviews start in two weeks from today.”
He pauses his ministrations and sets the gun down on the table before him, turning to stare out the window and watch as the cars pass by in a blur. “Get Uraraka on the line and tell her she has to be ready to head out for pick-up by tomorrow. The sooner we can bring him in, the better.”

2016: In fanfiction
I did this last year for my own amusement, and procrastinated this year. But here it goes. Same stuff as last time, a variety of fandoms, and the stories weren’t necessarily written in 2016, but that’s when I read them. Also, I’m addicted to h/c and angst, so fair warning, these range from fluff to heavy topics. So without further ado:
Boku No Hero Academia
I. Sharp Eyes by PitViperofDoom
Aizawa gets an unexpected visitor with a strange but earnest request.
This author has done multiple stories in this fandom, I am a big fan. Midoriya looking out for his friends, you know? It gets me. Warning: heavy themes referenced.
II. the storm comes quietly before it shakes the entire world by Tatsumaki_Sama
Midoriya's “Fearow” did not want to come out of its Pokeball.
With the popularity of Pokemon Go this past year, someone had to write out this story. And Tatsumaki_Sama does it extremely well.
III. Barology by MissAquarius
  Barology: the study of gravity.
So if you’ve hung around for a while, you might know that I’m a big fan of friendship stories. This is an excellent one. It is a H/C story, so be forewarned.
IV. Among the Ashes by AliFyre
Raised by his hero and older brother, the famous firefighter Iida Tensei, Iida Tenya has always had a bright beacon in his life inspiring him and drawing him forward. However, when Tensei is grievously injured in a fire set by a serial arsonist, his life is turned completely upside down. Suddenly his brother’s caretaker, Tenya must learn to cope with a slew of new responsibilities and find a new place to lean on in his time of hardship. Being unable to rely on his brother for emotional support, he must find other ways to cope with the drastic changes in his life -- something which Midoriya Izuku is all too happy to help with. Meanwhile, the fires in the city keep burning, reminding him every day of the pain his brother is suffering -- and his own desire for revenge.
So if you didn’t read all that, then let me tell you this: heavy themes. But a very good story.

V. when in doubt, go to the library by LullabyKnell
The Hogwarts Library saves the Wizarding World through the power of reading.
Sighs. Yes.
VI. THERMOS!, or, How a Muggle-Born Brought a New Age of Spell-Making to Hogwarts (Entirely by Accident) by susieboo
Muggle-born witch Phoebe McDevitt just wanted her tea to stay warm during class. She didn't expect to accidentally start a spell-making craze among her classmates.
[Oneshot. Next generation. Based off a Tumblr post, which I will link to in the notes.]
Had me giggling. The next gen we need.

VII. Wish by someonestolemyshoes
Kageyama Tobio wished upon a falling star.
He would learn, in due time, that stars do not grant wishes, for stars do not fall: they float, many millions of miles away, and there they always stay, keeping themselves very much to themselves.
No, the little ball of falling light on which Tobio cast his wish, was a fire demon.
And fire demons don’t grant wishes either.
But they, at the very least, will listen.
The right amount of fantasy and angst. Sad, but in a melancholy way with a nice ending.
VIII. Jump Start by Esselle
"You came to see how I'm doing?" Kageyama asks blankly. "Why?"
Daichi shrugs. "Why not? We're both in this scene, right? So I know how it is. You had some rough luck, so from one racer to another… I guess I just wanted to come wish you the best."
"…Oh," Kageyama says, looking no less confused.
In retrospect, Daichi supposes that this is kind of weird. But the nurse had said no one had been up to visit. Where is the kid's crew?
He doesn't pry. Instead, he says, "I'm Sawamura Daichi. It's nice to finally meet you in person." '
--
Daichi visits a racing prodigy in the hospital after an accident and finds, in place of a hardened champion, a bedridden, frustrated boy. Injured and friendless, Kageyama is wary of opening up to anyone. But Daichi, Suga, and Asahi know that crew is family; if Kageyama has neither, they'll try to be both.
No you guys don’t understand I need Karasuno supportive family it’s my jam
IX. sister's day by Interconnected_3
When he was five, she cut her hair, and kept cutting it.
Tanaka loves his big sister. Tall, cool, smart, dependable, and also the biggest liar he’s ever seen in his life.
Parental loss AU: On a certain May evening, Ryuunosuke finds an unfinished letter written to Saeko when he was six. To celebrate ‘Sister’s Day’, he decides to fill in the blanks in more ways than one.
I’m not crying you’re crying. Warning: Many heavy topics. Please read the tags, folks.
X. A Split-Second of Violence by maychorian
Hinata is loud. Hinata is annoying. Hinata is also passionate and sunny and bright, and so full of joyful energy that he brings out the best in everyone around him, even if they occasionally want to slap his head to make him shut up for awhile. When a split second of violence threatens to take all of this away, Karasuno responds with a fury.
Okay. So. Last year a KnB story by maychorian was on my list. She writes such good stories she single-handedly dragged me into the haikyuu fandom. Yep. This is where it all started. Possibly my favorite h/c story of all time. Heavy themes, lots of medical hurt, and bullies.

XI. Like Butter (Scraped Over Too Much Bread) by Umecchi
Alaude had known it was likely an inevitable confrontation. Daemon wasn't one to ignore people who were annoying him or getting in his way, and Alaude had always been magnificent at accomplishing both of those things at the same time.
So he'd known. Didn't mean he was happy about it.
This is a really, really great story. Just to warn though, violence and *spoiler* character death. But it’s just...so good?
XII. Sidelines by esama
The world ended and Tsuna survived.
This kept me fascinated, even though I generally avoid dystopian futures, I love time/au travel stories, and this was well done. Warnings include violence and Byakuran. Peripherally.
Voltron: Legendary Defenders of Earth
XIII. Enduring by prettyshiroic (AnalystProductions)
Keith is made of fire.
Resolve burns through his core, like molten rock churning its way through the lava that courses through his veins. Hot and raw and fiery. It’s not quite anger. It’s just fire, and it spreads into everything he does so easily and chaotically. The starry sea they fly through becomes ablaze when he’s piloting - sometimes literally when he and Red unleash the firepower. His eyes flicker and fire dances in them when Pidge says she wants to leave the team. There’s the dulled dwindling embers longing to be rekindled when the group are sat together in the morning, when Keith takes the risk to melt into the moment and squeeze himself into scenes he’s never been a part of before. And then there’s sweltering infernos that are unyielding and untamed as he charges into enemy lines, fights to protect and defend.
Keith is made of fire.
So when the flames turn against him suddenly, it never fails to come as a surprise.
This is yet another fandom you can blame maychorian for me involving myself in. Geez. Anyway, heavy themes like chronic illness. Plus Keith’s generally sucky backstory.
XIV. Child Soldiers by birdzilla
Allura knows that her paladins are young, but not how young. It turns out to be a difficult revelation.
And so it goes. War- even intergalatic war in space lions- isn’t a pleasant thing. Dragging kids into it without realizing that’s what you’ve done- well.
And that’s it for 2016! Hopefully nice things will continue to come out in 2017 as well. Enjoy!
