#head instructor to the TAs in the lab section i TA for: how r u guys feeling abt the workload?#me who hasnt graded anything since week 1 and spent an hr that morning filling out a patient safety plan: 🙃#listen. we r experiencing symptoms that make us shitty at our job. which is not helpful for a positive outlook#i was also experiencing horrible cramps at the time bc i lost my ibuprofen and 2 days ago i stopped the birth control in a desperate effort#to stop feeling terrible. but in this moment i feel alright. its wild to go from drastically unhappy to like lol wtf was that? anyway stop#being a bby loser. for no obvious reason. im gonna start the birth control again to see if i get depressed again or if that was just me lol#i dont think my therapist understands the depth of my executive functioning issues tho. bc im a grad student and can meet deadlines. like#let me tell u im a fucking disaster abt starting things. i will go back and forth and get nothing done forever. or i do things halfway and#make everything 30 times more difficult later bc no one else understands how my brain works#ah well. itll b fine. sometimes i just get freaked out that i wanna b better and i dont kno how to do that. so i spiral in despair a lil#ill b fine. im good at catching myself before i get too out of control. annoyingly tho i am not currently beating the bip0lar allagations#bc whatever tf is wrong with me i do probably fit the diagnostic criteria for bip0lar 2. i dont kno y that freaks me out so much. i guess#its bc it feels like something i cant just make better thru force of will and i grew up in a home that was very obsessively#health conscious to the point my dad gets anxious abt taking a single ibuprofen. so like ive been conditioned to get freaked out by#medication. literally my grandma will call me and tell me to b suspicious of doctors and to not take medicine unless absolutely necessary.#like lady u r the genetic reason i have 0cd shut the fuck up. also it feels like something that would more negatively affect how ppl think#of u than saying oh yea i get depressed or i have anxiety. like the connotation feels worse im used to just telling ppl whatever tf#my problem is. so the idea of holding something back feels weird. which annoys me bc i dont think there should b so much of a stigma. its#bullshit. anyway idk. im tired. i was trying to think of a comfort tv show with my therapist and all i could think was the terror#when im depressed i wanna watch those English mother fuckers suffer and die. i just lov that show so much. harry g00dsir my beloved. the#most me coded character to ever exist#unrelated

Muscle Head
"Morning, muscle head,"
"Ugh.....what do you want? I literally pounded your ass to oblivion as if that's my girlfriend's tight sloppy pussy last night, what else now?"
Tumblr media
"Can you calm down for me, muscle head?"
"Y---yes, sorry about the outburst. I just didn't think you'll wake up this quick,"
"This is 9 AM, this ain't early, muscle head. I noticed the damp towel so you already worked out. Well, last night was great, but don't you think you need to eat again after that draining workout before going on about your day? My feet can get used to a passionate sucking,"
And just like that, the muscular bodybuilder dropped to the floor and grabbed the nerd's hazel brown feet. The bodybuilder sucked each toes with the utmost care and attention while moaning in delight on how delicious of a treat it is and the nerd just smiled proudly while holding his laughter due to the ticklish sensation of the handsome bodybuilder's tongue and saliva.
The whole feet worship lasted for about 5 minutes before the bodybuilder went on another body parts. He lost himself to his Master's barely hairy pits and thin arms while his Master caressed his hair and whispered sweet nothings to his ear. Eventually, he blew his Master's cock before going on about his day as he got some brand partnership talk with one of his sponsor during lunch before another gym appointment with two clients and his own coach throughout the evening. During the stretch of hours he's outside of the house, he behaved normally as if he didn't just swallow the cum of his nerdy loner of a neighbor earlier today
Around 8 PM, the gym is already quiet as the bodybuilder already asked his coach for a 1-on-1 session in his prep to Mr. Olympia so the gym is closed early. When he's doing his set, someone called his coach, so the coach excused himself to pick it up. It's an unknown number but against his better judgement, he picked up
"Hello dumb tool. You must be in the gym, this is your Master speaking, Tobias. Is Aaron still with you?"
And just like that, the Coach reverted to his tranced and enslaved self as he answered monotonously that Aaron is indeed with him and he's currently working on his muscle and poses for next week's Mr. Olympia
"Well, Aaron's little brain probably forget that he's also my subject even though he's out of the house and I told him to be back home before 8:30. That's not going to happen now since this is 8:10 already so I want you to punish him, dumb tool. This is what you're going to do---"
A couple minutes later, the Coach, Tobias, stared at his disciple.
"Are you done with all the reps?"
Tumblr media
"Yes, I'm done. Who called? You spent quite some times," he said while taking out one of his earbuds
"It's none of your business, muscle head," said the Coach smirking while Aaron's pupil went wide as his consciousness started slipping away and his entranced self started to resurface once again. But, he's wearing one of his earbuds still so he resisted and started begging
"Coach, what the fuck? Don't say that word again,"
"What? Muscle head? Why? Aren't you a muscle head? Stop resisting and let that bitch ass power bottom out, Aaron. Our Master already told me to punish you for breaking your curfew,"
"Wait.....our Master?? Oh no...." he said, still fighting even though his Coach bombardment of his trigger word clearly made this a losing battle
"This is 8:25, muscle head. Don't you remember your Master's order? Maybe that's why our Master called you muscle head, because your little brain barely have an original thought of its own. You know what, kneel. Kneel to the floor and start repent, muscle head. Beg for your Master's mercy,"
Aaron didn't want to, but his Coach grabbed him by the shoulder and pushed his form as his trembling knee eventually caved in to the pressure. The coach also grabbed the still plugged earbuds and then smirked as he whispered Aaron's trigger word with his gruff voice. Aaron looked up and eventually realized how glazed his Coach's eyes are, and then he started to be pushed to his own subconsciousness as the other Aaron's fully resurfaced
Tumblr media
"Now worship me, muscle head. Master is on his way to pick you up and he ordered me to train you to become the biggest slut in this year Mr. Olympia. So let's take this slow so we can still have something to show to our Master when he eventually comes around,"

Love? Love. (part 3)
Andy barber x reader
author's note:im so tired only death can fix me
.....................
Andy woke up early the next morning.
6:00 a.m.
She smells so good
6:04 a.m.
God the way she looks away when she's all shy and cute
6:10 a.m.
you wore those shorts on purpose yesterday, didnt you?
6:45 a.m.
His hand is stroking his morning wood over the sheet.
it's wrong its wrong it's so so wrong
but it's her.
her. her on her knees.
"look at daddy, sweetheart,look at me while i ruin you," she looks up at me, mascara running down her bambi eyes as she drools around my cock.
"feel good,baby? you like being daddy's little cumslut? like it when he uses your mouth? I bet your little pussy is dripping just by sucking on daddy's big cock"
she. fucking. moans. around. it. FUCK!
Andy's hands speed up, vigorously rubbing his fat, hard cock, beads of precum spilling from the pink head of his cock.
i pull myself from her mouth, "youre such a filthy little girl," I take ahold of my cock and slap the sticky head on her cheeks "no,no baby, tch tch,"
"open your eyes, look at daddy"
FUCK! the image of you looking up at him with those teary eyes while he slaps your cockdrunk face with his meaty head is too much for him. With a few more strokes,he cums all over his hands, stomach and sheets, a blissed out smile on his face as he turns to the bedside clock- 7:25 a.m.
less than 12 hours till he gets to fuck see you.
AND LESS THAN AN HOUR TO HIS COURT HEARING!
He rushes to get ready and leaves the house, thankfully reaching just in time.
........................
y/n wakes up and immediately wishes she hadn't.
as if it wasn't bad enough to try to kiss the man who lived literally opposite to you, but she also had to go to his house 5 days a week.
"you're a big girl, y/n" her friend's voice comes through the phone, "so what? you misread the situation and tried to kiss him, no big deal."
"NO BIG DEAL?" y/n screeches into her pillow, "the first time I come onto a man and HE LIVES LITERALLY NEXT DOOR WHAT WAS I THINKING"
The rest of her day, she is plagued by the thoughts of Andy.
9 a.m. Physics class
wait, what if he was trying to kiss me back
11 a.m. Math class
No,he wouldn't.
1 p.m. Lunch
but would he?
........................................
6 p.m.
All day Andy has been in an unfamiliarly pleasant mood, he even brought flowers as he left his office unusually early.
lillies? no, I think she's more of a tulips girl. But what about sunflowers. And now that I'm already at trader joe's how about condo-
CALM DOWN! fuck fuck fuck! you'll only creep her out.
7:30 p.m.
Andy is fuming.
his gritting teeth, his fingers tapping impatiently on the steering, the low murmurs from his lips, all can be heard despite the clatter of the traffic.
Y/n ,on one hand is relieved
well, one less awkward rejection
on the other hand, her mind is working over time.
what if he is intentionally ignoring me?
what if he thinks I'm a loser-college-freak who kisses and becomes obsessed with any guy who is nice to her.
what if, her breath hitches, what if he has a girlfriend
Jacob notices the sudden stiffness in Y/n's body, "Are you okay y/n?", He asks with his eyebrows pinched with concern.
"Oh! yes, yes I'm alright, all fine".Y/n smiles.
After a few more minutes of studying, Jake suddenly speaks up, "You know, dad was really happy when you came over yesterday,"
y/n's heartbeat quickens,"What do you mean, jake?"
"Well, I don't know,but I've never seen him smile like that."
"Like what?"
"Like...." he pauses for a moment, "Like you know how sometimes as a little kid, you get lost in the grocery store. You can't find your mom and you get scared. But then you see her and she was over there the whole time, picking out your favorite chocolates, and you run upto her,your smile is the biggest ever"
y/n giggles at Jacob's absurd metaphor but then again, he was quite mature for his age.
"so am I the cashier of the grocery store in your little metaphoric world?"
"no ,y/n, I guess what I'm trying to say is that you were the smile on my dad's face"
"Jacob....."
The sound of Andy's car pulling into the driveway catches their attention.
Andy enters the house, 3 bouquets in his hand.
"Dad," Jacob smiles knowingly "who are those for?"
Andy's eyes try to find y/n's but she is looking at the floor, her breath obviously a little heavy, her cheeks flushed.
Andy ushers Jacob out of the room,"Come on, young man,take a break from all that studying."
y/n still isn't looking at him.
Andy settles down on his haunches before y/n and holds her chin between his thumb and he forces her to look him in the eyes.
"hi, angel"
"hey, Andy" The way she slightly shifts in her place on the sofa doesn't go unnoticed by Andy.
He picks up the flowers, "didn't know which ones you liked,so i tried my best three guesses."
The contrast of his dominant presence and the tenderness of his actions makes y/n melt into a puddle as she sheepishly plays with the collar of Andy's crisp white shirt.
"The sunflowers, Andy. I love them."
Andy picks the yellow bouquet and places it on her lap.
"I was correct,sweets," he rasps out, their lips mere inches away.
"well,technically, you were only 33% correct", she laughs.
"Well, I have got to shut your smart little mouth up"
With that Andy pulls her into a fierce kiss.
He rises onto his feet, pulling her with him.
The kiss is a perfect mix of y/n and Andy, teeth and tongue and smiles and small licks.
Their bodies were as close as they could be and it still wasn't close enough.
y/n pulls away first, out of breath and dizzy from being drunk on Andy's lips, only for Andy to chase her lips again.
"If it wasn't for the flowers, I would think you were trying to kill me, hogging practically all of my oxygen", she pants but smiles nevertheless.
"well if it wasn't for tutoring, I would think you came here just for me. did you sweetheart? did you wear this cute little dress just for me? "Andy tuts her again as she tries to hide her face into his chest, "look at me while I'm talking to you, baby."
y/n looks up at him and fuck is it a sight to behold.
Pupils blows out, her lips pouty and her lipstick slightly smudged, her flustered gaze as a small smirk forms on her lips, "are you accusing me of trying to seduce you Mr. Barber?"
"yes"
"well, maybe you're right, I wore this dress just fir you," she pauses as she feels his hands pawing at her tits.
"go on," Andy says with a smug smile.
nuh uh Mr. Barber, I will not go down with out a fight,
"In fact, i did everything for you today. I put on makeup, wore my pretty heels, painted my nails, didn't wear any panties....."
The look on Andy's face is pained and he looks almost on the brink of losing control, "really?
y/n gingerly pulls one of his hands from her chest and slowly traces it up her thigh, "see Andy? why don't you check it yourself."
Andy slowly inches his hands towards her pussy when the sudden sound of the doorbell makes them jump from their places.
Andy pecks and bites y/n's lips, "Give me a sec."
"No,you cant answer the door like that"
"like what?"
y/n shyly eyes the bulge in his pants,"like that."
"shit! sweetheart, could you do it?"
y/n opens the door to a woman.
she looks around her early thirties, aroundAndy's age, she's thin and her brown hair are tied into a ponytail.
The woman gives y/n a pointed look.
"Hi, I'm Laurie, Andy's wife."

“Jeremiah and I are going to build a fort when I spend the night,” Eli told you from the back seat as you drove him to school. This sleepover tomorrow was all he had been able to talk about all morning. “He said his daddy builds the most epic forts that take up the whole living room and he’s gonna ask him if he’ll build us one. And we’re going to watch Scooby Doo and the Alien Invaders. And Jeremiah has a Gameboy and he said he’s going to let me play on it! I think I’m going to ask Santa for a Gameboy this Christmas!”
“Wow,” you replied, smiling to yourself as your eyes darted to the rearview mirror, relishing the excitement on your son’s face. “Well, Christmas is pretty far away, buddy, but you save that idea.”
“Well, Christmas is way closer than my birthday now because that already happened and I have to wait a whole ten months for my birthday to come again but Christmas is only eight months away.”
“You’re right. Christmas is closer.”
“Yeah, and the Easter bunny doesn’t bring stuff like Gameboys. He just brings some candy and small stuff.”
“That’s right. I think asking Santa for it is a really good idea.” Plus, that would give you some time to save up for it. You made good money but working off of a single income meant you started saving for Christmas long before the holiday arrived.
“Yeah, I think so too,” your son replied, his little face serious. “Maybe I’ll start working on my list so it’s all ready. Oh! And Jeremiah said that we can ask his dad if we can go for a night walk. They take their flashlights and Miles and walk around in the dark! Isn’t that cool?”
“The coolest! That all sounds pretty amazing, buddy. You’re going to have the best time.”
“I know! And we get to spend the whole day together! We have baseball and then we’re going to get ice cream and then I’m sleeping at his house. It’s going to be the best day of my whole life!”
You laughed, “Well, that’s a pretty big statement. You still have a lot of life yet to go, but I am sure it will be the best day of your seven years so far.”
Turning into the drop-off line, you waved to Ms. Lincoln, Eli’s kindergarten teacher, who was standing to the side, greeting the kids as they came in. She’d been so vital to Eli that year. He’d lost his dad just a couple months into the year and she’d been so empathetic and kind to him. You would forever be grateful for the way she’d helped your son navigate such a confusing and awful time.
It had been difficult for Eli to understand the permanence of what had happened, especially when his dad being gone for a long period of time was not unusual. He continually asked when Justin was coming home, each inquiry another ice pick straight into your chest, when you would have to explain, again, that daddy couldn’t come home this time. He couldn’t ever come home again.
Ms. Lincoln had taken a special interest in him, knowing his love of superheroes, something that had come about because you had told him once that his daddy was one. Eli envisioned his dad like Superman, saving people’s lives, which wasn’t entirely untrue. His teacher was the one who encouraged him to draw. That was when he’d created Master Marine, a superhero with blond hair and blue eyes just like his dad that swooped in and saved the day, defeating the bad guys.
Every single time a new picture made its way onto your fridge, you would battle back the darkness. The darkness that sat just to the side, waiting to swallow you whole. The darkness you fought every morning, knowing you had to get up, knowing you had to keep moving or you would become stuck. And you couldn’t become stuck because your son needed you.
He needed you to be his mother, needed you to be strong and show him that everything was okay, needed you to keep going to your job so you had a place to live and food to eat. So as much as those pictures used to tear you up, take whatever pieces you'd managed to tape back together and run them through the shredder each time they appeared, you knew they were helping your son cope. Even his therapist had said art was an excellent outlet for him. So, when he would present you with a new one, Master Marine saving a young child that looked just like Eli from a bully at school or saving a woman with your hair and eyes from an evil mastermind, you would smile and gush about how amazing it was, sticking it to the fridge with a magnet.
“Bye mommy!” Eli yelled as you moved up to the front of the school, one of the fourth grade teachers opening the back door for him.
“Bye buddy. Have a good day. I love you!”
“Love you too!”
He turned back and waved to you over his shoulder before disappearing into the red brick building, his Batman backpack bobbing on his back. You turned out of the school and onto the road, heading for your favorite coffee shop.
You had a rare Friday off and you were starting it off by meeting Janice for coffee, a little ritual you had whenever you had a weekday off. It didn’t happen often but when it did, you savored every single moment of it. Your life was a constant cycle of work, running errands, doing household chores, and being a mom. To have six hours of time where no one required anything from you was a gift, one you didn’t get very often, and one you never took for granted.
Some people might use that extra day to catch up on household chores or run errands. But you didn’t, not if you could help it. You used that time to meet your friend, enjoying a slow coffee that you could savor instead of inhaling it just to get the caffeine to kick in. You used it to actually sit down and read a book or lay on the couch and watch tv shows you couldn’t ever watch when Eli was around. The laundry and the messy house would still be there tomorrow. The grocery store wouldn’t cease to exist if you didn’t go today.
Opening up the door to Brewed Awakening, you instantly felt like you were home, the atmosphere always so warm and welcoming. June, the owner, a woman around your age with long black hair and startling green eyes, waved from behind the counter. You waved back, inhaling the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee, already feeling that zing of energy, as if your body knew what was coming and was preparing for it.
You had been coming here for coffee since June had opened the place four years ago. Your love of coffee is what had brought you to the door but the atmosphere and the friendly owner is what kept you coming back. It didn’t hurt that June made an excellent cinnamon mocha. But what she’d done with the space turned it into an inviting place that kept you wanting to come back.
The decor was like a warm hug, full of comfortable furniture and cozy blankets. People often curled up in the squishy armchairs with their mug of coffee, reading a book, a blanket draped across their lap. Or they might be cross legged, on one of the wide chairs at a table, working on their laptop. The walls were a canvas of photos and artwork, small cafes from all around the world, allowing you to imagine that you were sipping a cappuccino in Vienna or enjoying a cafe latte in Paris.
“Hey girl,” June greeted with a smile as you approached the counter. “Cinnamon latte as usual?”
“Yes, please. I’m actually meeting Janice but she’s not here yet, of course.”
June winked, “Of course. Our Janice prefers to be fashionably late. Want me to get her Flat White ready?”
There it was, that feeling of belonging, like you were old friends even if the only encounters you ever had were at this counter. June had to serve hundreds of coffees a day but she knew every single regular’s order and often took the time to learn personal things about them as well. Often, you would approach to find your drink already ready, June preparing it the moment she saw you walk in.
“Yes please.”
“How’s my favorite little guy doing?” asked June as she steamed the milk.
“Oh, he’s great. He actually started playing baseball. His first practice was yesterday and he loved it,” you told her, slipping your credit card into the reader.
“Yeah? That’s great. I played softball all through school and I loved it. I can’t wait for him to come in with you so he can tell me all about it.”
“I’ll have to pop in with him sometime this weekend. You know how much he loves your hot chocolate.”
June laughed, setting the cups on the counter and leaning in, whispering, “Just so you know, that’s my Eli special. Not everyone gets extra whipped cream, chocolate chips, and crushed candy canes on their hot chocolate. Just my favorites.”
She winked and you smiled as you took the two coffees and headed over to two squishy armchairs that were free. You sat, sipping on your blessed caffeine, only waiting a few moments before Janice came swirling into the coffee shop like the tornado she was, apologies already falling from her lips for being late. Not that they were necessary. Late was just her perpetual way of being. You'd accepted that about your friend. You learned long ago that if you needed Janice ready at five, then you had to tell her four or you’d be waiting a while.
You held up your friend’s coffee and Janice took it with a smile, flopping down into the chair with a dramatic sigh, “Thank you. You are my favorite person ever.”
“I already had that title. I’ve had that title for a very long time. I didn’t need to buy you coffee for that so maybe you should pay me back. What a waste of my money,” you teased.
Janice stuck her tongue out. “You only stay my favorite because you supply my caffeine habit. Sorry I’m late. I was editing photos from that wedding I had a few weeks ago and I completely lost track of time. Then I raced out the door and got in my car and realized I didn’t have my purse. So, then I had to run back in and then the house phone rang and it was my mom and you know how hard it is to get her off the phone. And then when I told her I was meeting you, she had to know how you were doing and if you’ve found a guy from online dating so I was filling her in on what a disaster that was. And…”
“It’s fine,” you laughed, not surprised at all that Janice had told her mom all about your online dating escapades. The two were more like best friends, only sixteen years between them, than mother and daughter. “I never expect you to be on time anyway.”
“You know, I should be offended but that’s fair,” your friend shrugged and then she lurched forward, hand on the arm of your chair. “But I really was trying to get here on time today because I am dying to know how last night went with the hot dad.”
“You know it wasn’t a date, right?”
Janice waved her hand, groaning loudly, “He brought dinner to your place. It’s practically date adjacent.”
“Our kids were there. I told you that. Do you even listen when I talk? Eli and Jeremiah were just having a playdate. He brought pizza. It wasn’t even in the same zip code as a date.”
“So…you’re not interested in him at all?” Janice’s eyebrows lifted to her hairline, coffee cup brought to her lips, challenging you. Damn, she knew you too well. “Aha! I knew it! It’s all over your face. You are a smitten kitten and I love it! You’re definitely interested.”
You groaned, your head resting against the back of the chair. “Maybe…I don’t know. Janice, this is all very strange for me. And he’s just the dad of my kid’s friend. It’s not like he asked me out or hit on me or gave me any sign that he’s interested in me at all. He didn’t approach me at some bar and buy me a drink. I approached him to ask about his son coming to my house to play. I don’t even know if he’s single.”
“Well, that’s easy enough to figure out. Just ask him. When are you going to see him again?”
“Tomorrow. The boys have baseball practice again and then Eli is going to spend the night at their house.”
You looked down at your coffee, focusing on the dots of cinnamon speckled across the foam, not wanting Janice to read your expression. You did not want her to see how excited you felt at the idea of seeing him again and to read too much into it because you didn’t even know how you felt about it.
Yeah, you were lonely sometimes. Eli was your entire world and you had Janice and Matt. You weren't alone but sometimes you wished for someone to be around. Someone that was yours. Someone who might take care of you, offer to rub your feet or handle things while you took a bath. Someone you could curl up with while you watched a movie or who would make the salad while you prepared dinner. Someone to talk to, to share about your day, to hold your hand while you strolled through the grocery store.
It was dumb, really. Silly. You knew that. You should be perfectly content with everything you had, everything you'd had before you lost Justin. Not everyone got to experience a love like you had. But even when you had him, because of his job, he wasn’t always there. You'd spent lots of evenings alone. Being alone was not anything new for you but there was something vastly different about being alone, knowing your person was coming home to you at some point versus being alone knowing they never would.
“Okay, perfect. So you ask him tomorrow.”
“How am I supposed to ask him if he’s single?” you scoffed, appalled at the idea. Clearly, Eli had a mom. He’d spoken about her last night. Maybe he just didn’t like to wear a ring. Maybe she was simply out of town for work or something.
“Just like that. You tell him that you enjoyed your evening together and you wondered if he was single.”
“Janice, I can’t do that.”
“Of course you can. It’s a simple question.”
“There’s nothing simple about that. I haven’t asked a guy out in over a decade. And even back then, I was awful at it. I was always so nervous. Do you remember when tripped over my own feet and spilled that drink all over Josh Day in college? It was mortifying. Just because you’re all confident and brave doesn’t mean everyone is. Besides, I don’t even know if I want to know. I don’t know what I want.”
“Honey, we’ve been over this.”
“Yeah. We have. And you’re the one who wants this for me,” you groaned, “but Janice, you’re not in my shoes. You have no idea. You can’t know what this is like and I hope you never have to. You say it’s been long enough and that I need to move on. Maybe you’re right but that doesn’t mean I can wave some magic wand and be ready. They didn’t exactly give me a manual on how to get over your grief when your husband suddenly dies. They didn’t give me some step-by-step instruction booklet for how to start dating after losing the love of your life. And how to do that when you’re also a single mother who has a kid to consider in all of it. I tried. I went on four dates and every single one of them was awful and just reminded me of what I was missing. They didn’t make me want to move on. They made me want to hang on for dear life to what I used to have.”
“I know. I know they were awful. But I don’t want to see you close yourself off to the possibility because you’re scared. Online dating sucked. I hear you. But this isn’t that. This is a guy, right in front of you, who you obviously are interested in. And it’s a guy who already knows Eli and your son likes him. He’s already organically a part of your world. You spent a whole evening with him. Do you have another horror story to tell me about him?”
“No,” you admitted, sinking down into the comforting cushion of the chair. “No. He seems wonderful. He was great with the boys. I mean, obviously he’s good with his kid but he was great with Eli too. He had them both laughing. And he has a good job. He’s a project manager for a construction company. Not that it should matter but I definitely don’t need a manchild in my life. Raising Eli is enough.”
“And…?”
“And what? Isn’t that enough?”
“He’s cute obviously?”
You flushed, bringing a hand to your face as those eyes and that smile came back to you, “I already told you he’s good looking. I mean…hazel eyes, ridiculously good hair, and a smile that could power up the whole of New York City. He’s that kind of good looking that makes you wonder what he’s doing here and not on your television screen.”
Janice giggled, her feet bouncing against the floor, arm smacking her chair, “See? Come on. Take your shot, honey.”
“But what about Eli?”
“What about Eli? Didn’t you say he liked him?”
“He did but he barely knows him. And this isn’t the kind of thing where I could wait to introduce them until I knew it was something real because he’s already in Eli’s life now. And Eli is best friends with his son. I can’t screw that up for him. Because how would we be able to still set up playdates if we had some horrible breakup? We wouldn’t be able to be in the same room and then Eli would be crushed. And what if Eli isn’t ready to see me with someone else? He’s only ever seen me with his dad. He might think I’m betraying Justin. And what if…”
“Whoa, okay, let’s back the truck up a bit here,” Janice soothed, her hand coming to rest on your arm. “It’s just a date, one date honey, not a lifetime commitment. Ask him out on one date and see how it goes. Keep it simple and come here for coffee. No pressure. Not some fancy restaurant with low lighting. Just a nice coffee. If there’s nothing there then you just move on as friends and it doesn’t have to affect the boys. They don’t even have to know that you two went out. And you know I’ll watch Eli for you if you need me to. Name the time and Matt and I will be there.”
“I don’t know. This all just feels weird and wrong…I mean, Justin…”
“Justin wouldn’t want you to be alone for the rest of your life. Justin loved you like Sam loved Annie, like Wesley loved Buttercup, like Harry loved Sally. He would want you to have the world. He would hate the idea of you sitting in that house all alone. You are far too young to be facing the rest of your life alone. Take the leap, my friend. Take a chance on this movie star man. Be happy. It’s okay.”
But was it okay? You would like to think that Justin would want you to be happy, that he wouldn’t want you to spend the rest of your life alone at only thirty-two. But would he look at it as a betrayal? Would you be dishonoring him and everything you'd shared if you replaced him like an old couch?
And was any of this even relevant? You didn’t even know if Steve was single. Maybe he was still married or maybe he wasn’t but he was already seeing someone else. You couldn’t imagine a guy like that staying single for long. There had to be women lined up just waiting for their turn. If the moms at practice the other day were any indication, that was certainly the case.
But did you want to keep being alone? Maybe you didn’t straight up ask him but maybe you could find out. You were hanging out tomorrow for a bit anyway. Maybe if you were crafty, you could figure out his status without just coming out and asking if he was single.
“I’ll think about it,” you finally relented.
“I guess I’ll take what I can get,” sighed Janice.
___________________________________________________________
After listening to Janice spend the next hour trying to convince you why you needed to grab the bull by the horns, your friend’s words and not yours, you were ready to get the hell out of there. Janice was not going to let this go. You'd hugged your annoying, but well-meaning, friend and headed off to the grocery store.
As you'd just had pizza last night, Eli had asked if you could change pizza Friday to nacho Friday. So, here you were, even though you usually avoided doing things like this on a bonus day, grabbing all the fixings you would need to make the best nachos ever. Or really, what you would need because when Eli said nachos, all he really wanted was melted cheese on tortilla chips and some salsa to dip them in.
Not you. You had every intention of loading yours up with all the good stuff. Grabbing a cart, you wandered through the aisles, grabbing avocados to make guacamole, ground beef, taco seasoning, black olives, sour cream, and one jalapeno. Deciding a bottle of wine would be a nice addition, you turned down the liquor aisle and almost plowed right into another cart with your cart.
“Oh my god. I am so sorry. I wasn’t even looking…”
Your heart stopped, along with the entire grocery store, as if someone had hit the pause button, when you saw who you almost ran into. Steve gave you that megawatt smile, blinding even under the fluorescent lights of the grocery store. He stood there in a plaid button down and jeans, a baseball cap on his head.
Seriously? You'd met this guy two days ago and you had never seen him before. You definitely would have noticed if he’d ever been anywhere in your vicinity. Who wouldn’t notice a guy who looked like that just having the nerve to exist? Now you were running into him in the grocery store? Could you have just been blind?
To be fair, after Justin had passed, for a long time you felt like you w were moving through life in a fog. Your grief had been so thick that you barely noticed anything, simply going through the motions that were required of you. Maybe you had seen him before but never even noticed, blinders that were you just trying to function keeping you from seeing this beautiful man that lived in your town.
“Hey there,” he laughed, taking his hands off the cart and holding them out wide.
“Hey. Grocery shopping?”
Your eyes closed as you inwardly cursed yourself. Obviously he was grocery shopping. He had a cart in the middle of a grocery store. Why were you so bad at this? And Janice really thought you had a shot in hell of flirting with him, of asking him out when you couldn’t come up with anything better than asking him if he was grocery shopping in a grocery store?
“I mean, it is a store full of food so, you know?” Steve shrugged, gesturing to his basket. “I had a few hours before I had to be out to check on a job site so I figured I’d grab all the provisions for the big sleepover tomorrow. It’s way easier to do it now than to lug Jere with me. He’ll have this cart overflowing and my wallet completely drained by the time we checkout.”
You looked down. His cart was full of everything two seven year old boys might want. He had burgers, hot dogs, buns, four kinds of chips, cookies, ice cream, popcorn, juice boxes, cereal, and milk. You also noticed the six pack of beer that was probably his own personal little treat for having two seven year old boys in his house all night. Your eyes met his, eyebrows lifting.
“The beer is just…I mean, I won’t drink it all when they’re there or anything. Just like to have one or two in the evening sometimes. I promise you I am a responsible adult.”
“No, that’s not it. I don’t care if you enjoy a beer. You’ll probably need it. It’s just that’s a lot of food for one overnight. Looks more like you’re planning on twelve kids or possibly stealing my child for a whole week,” you teased, pressing your lips together. “I warn you. You can try to take him if you want but you’ll want to give him back after the first night. I’ll be impressed if you make it through night two. He’s amazing but he’s a handful.”
One of his hands ran through his hair as he chuckled, “No. I wasn’t planning on keeping him. Trust me, one seven year old is more than enough for me to handle on a regular basis. Besides, Jere’s mom will be home Sunday night so he’ll be heading back with her until I get him again on Wednesday.”
“Oh?” So she was in the picture but definitely not in the picture as in them together. Here was your opening, your way of finding out more information without blatantly letting him know you were interested. Just a casual conversation between two acquaintances who ran into each other. “Shared custody?”
“Yeah. Nance and I divorced about four years ago but we try to co-parent the best we can. She’s been on a trip with her husband for their anniversary for the past week so I’ve had Jere all week. That’s why I needed a babysitter for the meeting. Normally, we just help each other out if we need to.”
“Wow, that’s great. It’s so nice that you two can make that work when so many can’t. Jeremiah must love that his parents can work together so well. It has to make the split a lot easier on him.”
Steve shrugged, “Yeah. I mean, we’re just better friends than we were romantic partners, you know? It wasn’t really a contentious divorce. Nobody did anything bad. No cheating or nastiness or anything. We knew we wanted to make it as easy on Jere as we could so we agreed to joint custody, splitting our time with him fifty-fifty and then if something comes up, we just move stuff around as needed.”
You were impressed. You had known quite a few people who’d gone through a divorce, more than you should for only being thirty two. Most of them were not friendly with each other. Nasty divorces where venomous words were thrown around and battles lasted for months over possessions and children and pets. To have two people just recognize that their marriage wasn’t working and decide to work together for the sake of their kid was incredibly mature and only made him that much more attractive. You really needed this guy to have a fault because it was getting harder and harder not to think he might be the most perfect guy you'd ever met.
“It’s really nice that you two are there for each other like that. It’s hard being a single parent.”
“Yeah. It is,” he agreed. “You’re always feeling like you’re doing the job of two people. But I’m very lucky to have her and my friends to help me out.”
“Yeah, I have my friend Janice and her husband Matt. They help me out a lot whenever they can. Matt is actually the one who got Eli into baseball. He started taking him to the batting cages right after him and Janice started dating. And he’s taken him to a couple games. That’s why Eli wanted to play.”
“Well, Jere is definitely glad for that. He was practically bursting to tell me that Eli was going to be on the team.”
“Those two really seem to have connected,” you said fondly. “Eli talks about him all the time. It’s nice. He…uh, he struggled to make friends the first couple years of school. He was kind of quiet and kept to himself after…well, he just was going through some stuff. So, him finding Jeremiah has been really great. Or, I guess Jeremiah found him, actually. Eli told me Jeremiah saw his Batman backpack on the first day of school and showed him his Superman one and asked if he wanted to be his best friend. It has really brought him out of his shell.”
“Well, Jere loves him. When I ask about school, he’s never talking about anything he is actually learning.” Steve chuckled. “He’s always telling me about Eli. He would not stop talking about Eli coming to sleepover after we left your house last night and it was all he talked about this morning on the drive to school.”
“Eli too.”
“Coach Harrington, is that you?” came a sing-songy voice as Laurie Streeter came sliding up next to him with her cart.
“Oh, hi Ms. Streeter,” Steve greeted with a nod.
“I thought that was you,” she beamed and was that, was she actually batting her eyelashes at him? You grimaced at the woman in her mid thirties acting like some teenage girl with a crush. “I just couldn’t pass up the chance to say hi to my favorite baseball coach. You know, Richie hasn’t been able to stop talking about how much he loves baseball ever since the first practice the other night.”
“Well, good. I’m glad he’s enjoying it. I try to make sure all the boys are learning but having fun.”
“Oh, and you do such a wonderful job.”
Her hand fell on his forearm as she leaned into him, pressing her ample cleavage against his bicep. Steve’s eyes widened and you noticed the red that was creeping along his neck, up over his jaw, coloring his cheeks. But was he blushing because he was flattered or because he was mortified?
You were certainly mortified. You couldn’t even bring yourself to ask him if he wanted to maybe get a cup of coffee sometime and this woman was practically melding their bodies into one in the liquor aisle of the grocery store.
Laurie was that mom that was always put together. You never caught her without a full face of make-up and not a hair out of place. Her husband left her for a younger model last year and instead of letting it beat her down, she’d come back with a vengeance. She’d taken up Pilates and even you had to appreciate how tight her ass looked in her yoga pants. Apparently, Laurie had decided to show her ex just what he’d given up when he walked away.
You looked down at yourself. It wasn’t that you were sloppy. You were wearing jeans and a sweatshirt, normal attire for your off days. You'd put on some concealer and mascara this morning and you'd pulled your hair into a ponytail in preparation for meeting Janice for coffee. You looked presentable but you would never be able to compete with that if that was what Steve was looking for.
Laurie might be a single mom but she was living off of the generous alimony she received in the divorce from her cardiac surgeon ex husband. She didn’t work. She had a nanny for her three sons. She had all the time and money in the world for Pilates, spa days, and the salon. You were lucky if you remembered to get a haircut every six months.
“That’s really nice of you to say,” Steve replied, and you watched as his Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed hard.
“Oh my gosh, coach. Your arm is so firm. Wow. Do you work out?” asked Laurie, giggling as she wrapped her hand around his bicep, squeezing.
“I mean…I try to get to the gym a few days a week,” he stammered.
Jesus. Laurie was ready to straddle him right there next to the wine and Steve was struggling to speak. This situation was just getting uncomfortable at this point and you needed an out. Janice was wrong. There was no way you were going to embarrass yourself by setting yourself up to be rejected.
“It shows. You know, it must get so lonely in that house all by yourself when Jeremiah is with his mom. I could bring over dinner sometime for you, keep you company…”
That was it. You could not listen to it anymore. “You know, I really need to get going so I’ll let you two catch up,” you interjected, attempting to maneuver your cart around them.
“Oh my gosh! I didn’t even see you there,” Laurie said, her voice dripping with false sweetness, letting you know she absolutely had seen you there. She just didn’t care. The woman’s eyes roved over you from head to toe. “Oh honey, you must let me give you the name of my stylist. You could really do with a…well, everything. I know single motherhood is challenging but you really can’t just let yourself go. When was the last time you had your hair done, sweetie? How do you ever expect to find a man walking around like that?”
“Well, you know it’s hard to find the time,” you seethed, the urge to just leave your cart and dart out of the store overwhelming. But no, you'd promised Eli nachos for dinner. You would not let this woman bully you into running away in shame.
“I’m a single mother and somehow I find the time.”
“Yeah, it must be so hard when you have a full-time nanny to mother your children. Some of us have to actually do that ourselves.”
Laurie looked like she’d been slapped, her jaw almost hitting the floor. Steve’s hand slid across his mouth but you caught how his eyes crinkled. He was hiding a smile, amused by your comment.
“You know, I happen to enjoy a woman who doesn’t feel the need to get all made up just to go grocery shopping,” he offered. “When you’re naturally beautiful you don’t need to hide it behind a bunch of face paint, anyway.”
You pulled your bottom lip between your teeth to conceal the smile that came at his words. Could this man be any more perfect? Did he even have a flaw? And the look on Laurie’s face, the way she turned tomato red, the fumes that you could practically see coming out of your nose, only made the moment even more enjoyable.
“Well, this was fun but I really need to get going now. I have to pick up my son and make dinner for him since I don’t have anyone to do that for me. I’ll let you both get back to your shopping,” you said simply, pushing your cart down the aisle, heading for the checkout.
“Hey, I’ll see you tomorrow, right?” Steve called out.
You turned to look at him over your shoulder, “Yeah, tomorrow, facepaint free, split ends, and all.”
Oh, but that look on Laurie’s face, sheer jealousy and outrage, would have you smiling for the rest of the day.
____________________________________________________________
Steve drove toward home after checking in at the job site, unable to stop grinning, occasionally chuckling as he remembered Laurie’s face when you had called her out. As he remembered the smile you gave him when he spoke up, saying you didn’t need make-up because you were naturally beautiful, his chest warmed.
Well, okay, he hadn’t exactly said you were beautiful but it was implied. At least, he thought it was. And you didn’t need make-up. He loved that you were comfortable enough in your own skin that you didn’t feel the need to cover every inch of your face in make-up. He loved that you didn’t feel the need to look like you were heading out to the club just to pop into the grocery store.
He’d dated his fair share of high-maintenance girls. And while there was nothing wrong with a lady caring about her appearance, there was something annoying about having to wait an hour and a half for them to get ready when you casually mentioned grabbing some lunch. Now you were waiting until closer to dinnertime and grouchy, which inevitably led to a very unpleasant meal when you started sniping at each other. He’d been there more times than he could count.
And Laurie Streeter, she needed someone to knock her down a few pegs. She walked around with her nose stuck up in the air, acting like she was better than everyone else. She had milked that divorce for all she could and honestly, her shitbag of a husband had cheated, so Steve didn’t fault her for that. But everyone knew she didn’t get her hands dirty if she didn’t have to. She had a cleaning lady, a nanny, and in the summers she even had a pool boy. That woman had no idea what it was like to actually be a single mother.
Steve pulled his Ford Explorer into the driveway in front of his house. He’d bought it after Nancy and him had separated. There’d been no arguing. She was the mother of his child. He told her to go ahead and keep the house. He’d be the one to find somewhere new but she’d wanted a fresh start too. So, they’d sold the house they bought together when he was only twenty-three and split the profits.
It fit his needs. In fact, it was probably a bit more space than he needed for just him and Jeremiah. It was a two story house with three bedrooms and two full baths. The kitchen area was decent sized with a wrap around island where he kept a couple barstools and a space for a dining room table. He’d refinished the basement two years ago and that was where most of Jere’s toys were, along with a tv for him to watch his cartoons.
But his favorite part was the backyard. The house was rare in the neighborhood, boasting a quarter acre of land with a large backyard. His fence butted right up to the treeline and he spent many nights sitting out on the deck he’d built or on the patio with a fire going and a beer in his hand. Jeremiah loved the swingset he’d put in and he was begging for them to get a pool but that was a big expense and a hell of a lot of upkeep. Still, he promised the kid he’d think about it.
Unlocking the front door, he smiled as the familiar tapping of paws across hardwood greeted him. Miles came dashing around the corner. He swore that the dog looked like he was smiling, with his big old tongue hanging out of the right side of his mouth. His size intimidated people sometimes but he was just a big old teddy bear.
“Hey there Miles,” Steve cooed, rubbing his head. “You miss me? Your buddy will be home from school soon. I have to get him in about an hour. You wanna come with me?”
The dog huffed loudly, curling his body and spinning in a circle as if he understood exactly what Steve was saying. And quite honestly, sometimes he wondered if he did. He’d spent many a night spilling his guts to the furry beast, telling him things he never shared with anyone else, not even Robin.
“You know, there’s going to be some new people coming to meet you tomorrow,” he told Miles, heading into the living room, the Newfoundland trailing behind him. “Jere’s friend, Eli, is going to come over and spend the night. He’s really excited to meet you.”
He sat down on the couch and the dog did not hesitate, leaping right up next to him. He laid down, his big head dropping onto Steve’s knee and he absent mindedly stroked his fur, fingers moving through the black, shaggy fur.
“His mom’s coming too and I think I might like her.” Miles lifted his head, those big brown eyes observing him. “I know. I know. I see a pretty girl and I’m losing my mind again but I don’t think that’s what this is. Not this time. This girl’s different. But she lost her husband and I don’t know how long ago it was. I don’t want to push her into something she’s not ready for. And you know, if I asked her out and then it didn’t work, what if she felt awkward and then Eli and Jere couldn’t hang out anymore? He’d be so hurt. I don’t know. I thought about asking if she wanted to stay for dinner tomorrow. I mean, the kids would be here too. So, it’s not really like asking her on a date, right? It would just give me a chance to maybe talk to her, get to know more about her. I just feel like I have to be careful with this one, you know? It’s not just my heart that could be on the line this time. So, what do you think? Should I ask if she wants to stay for dinner tomorrow? Have a burger? It’s casual enough, right? Just being friendly?”
Miles leapt up and barked before bestowing Steve’s face with one of his sloppy kisses. He laughed, grabbing Miles’ big head, placing a kiss right on his black nose.
“I guess that means it’s a good idea, huh?”
Miles woofed loudly and maybe it wasn’t the most valid way to make a decision, but Steve trusted this big beast more than he did most people. Alright, he’d ask you to stay and eat with them. No big deal. You'd all eaten together the night before. Then he could maybe figure out what the right call was with this because he really wanted to find out if you were as different as you seemed. He wanted to know if this time could be different, if maybe he’d chosen the right one.

It was a Friday night and you had had plans to go over to your friend Steve's house for movie night, it had become a tradition since freshman year. You Steve, Robin, Nancy, Jonathan and of course Eddie Munson. Now you didn't really have a problem with him its just he was a little too "wild" for your liking. He always seemed to get you in trouble by doing something stupid then when you would try to bring it up to him the next day he'd say that it wasn't his fault and ignore you, or somehow make it your fault. But since this was Steve's house and not your own you weren't going to be that upset if something happens because then it wouldn't be on you.
As you started to get ready it was already almost 5:00 and you had promised Steve that you would be there at exactly 5:30, not only was he a few blocks away from your house but you also didn't own a car and would have to walk there and it was starting to rain, your only choice was to walk. Now you could have called Eddie but you didn't feel like having him come here with his rusty old van and blowing your eardrums out with his loud music, not that you didn't like his music but you preferred other genres more. As you looked for the umbrella you swore you had put in the holder by the front door the clock was ticking down minute by minute. After a few minutes of searching you decided that you could just brave the rain, and the cold.
As you where walking to Steve's you realized that you had totally forgot to put on a bra earlier and you where wearing a white shirt on top of that, you thought your day couldn't get any worse then you herd it. The familiar sound of screeching tires and a loud stereo from down the road behind you, you tried not to look but he did. "Hey there princes, whatcha doin' out here in the rain?" he said slowing down to talk to you as you kept walking. Covering your chest by crossing your arms you turned to him to talk "Oh you know dont have a ride so i just figured id walk to Steve's" you say laughing a little bit. "You know you could have called me, I would have picked you up in a heartbeat" he says smiling at you with that devilish grin he wore so proudly. "Oh i just figured you had a Hellfire meeting today so i didn't want to bother you" You say obviously lying to him. "But you know that we dont have hellfire meetings on Friday" dropping his smile and squinting his eyes at you. Oh fuck how where you going to get your ass out of this one. "Well I just figured you would have had a campaign or something to do" you said hoping that he wouldn't catch on. "No i did not, but dont you still have the schedule from when you where in hellfire?".
Yes its no surprise that when you where dating Billy Hargrove that he had told you about a drug dealer by the name of Eddie the freak Munson. He had taken you along with him on one of his runs and that was the first time you ever met Eddie, since then you two along with your other friends you have practically been inseparable. After you had broken up with Billy you had seen that there was a new or at least you thought new club at the school called Hellfire. When you got there it was filled with your usual geeks, weirdos and losers but one had stood out among the rest, Eddie. He wasn't like the other people there, the others had good grades and smarts and his was well... questionable. After that first meeting that you went to he started taking you home after school and picking you up in the mornings, you dont know what had changed but one day he didn't show up and you just figured that he was done with you. since then you only really see him at the little party's that your friends throw, and sometimes a casual friendly wave in the hallways but your not as close as you once where.
"Well i'm here now right, you should hop in you seem... cold" he said looking at you, you where visibly shivering and teeth chattering as you spoke. You thought about saying no because you didn't want to make things weird but then if you didn't then you would probably catch hypothermia so you decided getting in was the best option. As you got in you had uncrossed your arms to pull yourself inside, forgetting about your outfit malfunction. Eddie had seen your chest through your shirt as he looked a you getting in and something changed inside of him. He wasn't the smiling Eddie that had just offered you a ride, no he wasn't even looking at you and he was barley even talking to you when you tried to make conversation, why?
The drive to Steve's was silent, Eddie had turned down the music when he stopped to talk to you then jut never turned it up again. You looked out the window and sighed, he noticed and looked over at you. Seeing that you where still shivering. "I uh have a shirt in the back if you want to wear it. its kinda old and ive worn it before but it might be warmer" he said still looking over at you. "Are you sure? I mean i'm fine in this" you said teeth chattering and still shivering. "Yeah sure you are princess" he said scoffing and looking back at the road. "okay okay where is it?" you said climbing into the back, you had a skirt on and you ass was practically in his face when he looked in his rear view mirror. "well they dont call it a rear view mirror for nothing" he mumbled "its next to that pile of blankets on the floor" he said noticing a tightening in his jeans as he adjusted them a little to be more comfortable.
You wiggled your ass while looking for the shirt unaware of what you where doing to Eddie "where-Oh wait i found it!" you said picking up the shirt and looking at it. It was an old iron maiden tee-shirt, black unlike the one you had on, it matched your skirt perfectly. As you went to take off your shirt and change you had forgotten you had no bra on, so you did what any reasonable person would do .You put it on over your soaking wet tee-shirt and tried to take off your skin tight white turtleneck under the other tee-shirt. It went horribly, meanwhile Eddie had parked at Steve's house already and noticed that you where... struggling so he decided to offer you some help.
"Hey princess need some help?" he said as he crawled in next to you. "No i got it!" you said even though you defiantly did not have it. Your turtleneck had shrunk in the washer to begin with so it was already tight and now you had to take it off under another tee-shirt without accidentally flashing your best friend. "No you dont, just hold still let me help you" he said as he reached out to tug on the bottom of the iron maiden tee-shirt. As you where still trying to take off the sleeves you felt him grab your left sleeve and start pulling it. Afterwards he helped you with your right sleeve and then the hard part. You had done your hair and make up so nicely and didn't want to ruin it so you held your hands in front of your face as he pulled the neck up and over your head. "Sorry about your hair" he said trying to help smooth it down for you. "Its okay" You said smiling at him "Thank you".
As you walked up to Steve's front door he came out. "Jesus i was wondering where you guys have been, been waiting for you guys for like 20 minutes!". "Well were here now aren't we?" you said stomping into the house with a pissy tone. "Shes not happy that i messed up her hair" Eddie mumbled to Steve. "Oh messed up her hair now?" Steve said with a grin and wiggling his eyebrows at Eddie. "Not like that man come on" Eddie scoffed as he moved past Steve to follow you. Meanwhile you where in the kitchen with Nancy and Robin, talking about Nancy getting married. "Alright so now that everyone is here we can start the movie" Steve said grabbing the popcorn and drinks. "So what movie did you pick out for us this time big boy?" you said as you plopped yourself right in between him and Robin. "Risky Business" He said smirking over at you, god was it going to be a long night.
Eddie had sat down right next to Steve, Nancy and Johnathan had shared the love seat. Everything was going fine till the sex scene came on. You felt Steve's hand creep on your thigh but when you turned to look at him his eyes where glued to the TV, but Eddie's weren't. He was staring right back at you with heavy lids and his tongue licking his bottom lip. "Oh fuck were out of popcorn" Steve said "Ill make some more, you just stay right there" You said getting up and grabbing the bowl out of Steve's lap. As you walked to the kitchen you thought you herd someone behind you but when you looked back no one was there. Oh well you thought to yourself but as you rounded the corner Eddie was standing right there.
"How did you get in front of me?" you questioned him. "Oh you know i'm a ninja" he said jokingly. "Yeah right, you a ninja? Next to Robbin your the clumsiest person i know" you said as you put the popcorn bag in the microwave. You turned and leaned on the counter and stared at Eddie. "Why aren't you out there watching the movie with everyone else?" You said looking a bit confused. "Eh its not my favorite, plus ive already seen it so you know" he said leaning on the kitchen island across from you. "Yeah I dont know i mean i like it, plus tom cruise is hot" You say getting the popcorn out of the microwave and putting it into the bowl. "Oh yeah and why is that?" he says looking at you. "Because he has nice hair and nice hair turns me on" You said this time getting closer to his face then leaving.
When you returned to the living room Steve had moved closer to Robin so now there was only space next to him where Eddie was sitting. As you sat down Eddie had squeezed himself in right next to you, man spreading. You couldn't help but look down at his legs, you saw a bulge. You had herd stories about how big he was but you didn't realize that it was true. You forgot that you where staring then Eddie had caught on. "See something you like there princess?" he said whispering into your ear. you quickly looked up but it was already too late he knew. You tried to turn away but his hand came up to your jaw forcing you to look at him, you whimpered but only loud enough for him to hear. He bit his lip and looking into his dark pools of eyes you stared. but then you felt Steve's hand on your thigh again breaking your little staring contest with Eddie.
You looked over at Steve but this time he was looking back at you. He bit his lip a little then started to drag his hand up further, but just as you thought it couldn't get any better you felt another hand. It was Eddie's ,now you where stuck with both of your best friends hands on your thighs. Not waning to make things awkward you got up to use the bathroom. You stayed in there until you herd the ending credits come on. When you walked out Nancy and Johnathan where passed out and Robin was nodding off next to Steve. "Alright its time for bed i guess" Steve said as no body but Robbin said anything in response. "Hey do you have any shorts i can barrow this isn't very comfy to wear to bed" You said asking Steve. "Uh yeah up in my closet theirs some old gym shorts you can barrow" He said laying out blankets for everyone.
Steve was a nice friend he always had been, Ever since he sat next to you in biology class you two just clicked. You didn't like Tommy and Carol though, they where assholes to you always making fun of your hair or outfits or what ever else they could find. Your relationship with him wasn't always like this though, not until last spring when you and Steve had hooked up after prom because both of your dates ditched you. After that it got well...Weird, you started hanging out in groups because with the two of you it was just awkward. After school you'd make out with Billy in his car at lovers lake but never dared to go further than just over the clothes. You liked Billy but not that much, You had never slept with anyone until Steve so obviously you have a bit of a soft spot for him.
As you put on Steve's shorts and headed back downstairs you start to think about Eddie and how much you two have done together too. Never as much as you and Steve but you've shared a drunken kiss once or twice. As you got back to the living room you saw everyone lying on the floor and couches, trying to figure out where you should sleep you felt a hand on your shoulder. It was Eddie "You can sleep with me if you want, Ill keep you warm" He said smiling a little bit. "Okay" You said getting on your knees to lay down, You two where behind the couch which you thought was a bit odd but you didn't care too much.
As he laid down next to you, you covered yourself up with the blanket because you where cold, it was big enough for the two of you but only if you where extremely close. As you started to scoot backwards you noticed that Eddie had turned towards you and you where now rubbing against his very prominent hard on. You kept trying to get warm by rubbing up against him but you just ended up making your situation worse. He grabbed your hip with one hand to try and make you stay still but you where still trying to move. "Are you trying to kill me here?" He whispered into your ear as his breath hitched in his throat. "What no, why would i do that?" you said trying to change the subject. "You know why, You've been torturing me all day princess dont act like you dont know what your doing to me." He said almost sounding in pain. "I dont know what your talking about" you said trying to act innocent. "Oh really you dont know? I'm talking about this" He said as he started to grind into you. "All of this just because you where cold" He said as he stopped grinding. This was going to be one long night.

The Star Crossed Masterlist
My All Of Us Are Dead Masterlist
My Navigation and Masterlist
Warnings: Na-yeon. Word Count: 4,147
Waking up was always the hardest part of the day for you. Your body resisted it with all its might and sometimes the temptation was too strong to resist.
Or at least it would be if you didn’t have an older brother there to smack you with a pillow until you got up.
Your arms instinctually went up to protect your face as you screeched when your attacker would not stop. You heard Gwi-nam laugh as you rolled around in your bed, trying to avoid the insistent hits of the fluffy pillow. Finally, he stopped. He was grinning until it turned into an annoyed scowl.
“I have been trying to wake you up for the past 30 minutes, now you only have 15 to get ready for school or else I’m leaving you here.”
You knew the threat was empty and he would wait all day for you if you needed it but you still practically leaped out of the bed at his words.
“Okay, okay! I’m sorry! I’ll be ready soon, I promise!” You quickly rushed to the bathroom to start your morning routine, brushing your teeth only until you were satisfied they felt and smelled clean before going on to styling your hair into a simple but cute hairdo. Quickly getting changed, you rushed out of your room and slid into the kitchen using your socked feet. Grabbing a quick breakfast time you could eat on the way, you rushed to put your shoes on.
When Gwi-nam walked out of his bedroom, unrushed and calm, you looked at him, confused.
“Why aren’t you rushing?” You questioned, slightly out of breath and slowly catching on as his lips tilted into a large and mischievous grin. You looked at the clock on the wall of your living room and looked back at him comically slowly. It was 40 minutes before you needed to leave. “Oh, you little shit! I’m gonna kill you!” You stood up, one shoe still untied but that didn’t stop you from running after him as he ran away and laughed loudly at your reaction.
You and Gwi-nam walked across the crosswalk, both walking in a comfortable silence until you both saw them.
Myeong-hwan and his 'friends.'
The small smile you wore as you walked dropped as soon as you saw them.
“Have fun,” You whispered to Gwi-nam, trying to keep the bitterness out of your tone. It seemed to work because he just gave you a small smile and ruffled your hair which you smacked him for. Ignoring the way his entire persona changed as he walked over to the group, you put your headphones on and turned your music up until you could no longer hear the chatter of the people around you before walking into the school and heading for your classroom, knowing the bell would be going off soon.
You arrived just as the warning bell went off and went to sit in your assigned seat next to the window beside Nam-ra. She was already there, early as always, and you gave her a small smile before sitting down, taking your headphones out and putting them away as well as turning your phone off completely and taking out your old one. Luckily, you hadn’t been caught not turning in your phone yet and Ms. Park continued to believe the phone you turned in each day without fail was your only phone.
You were a good student, why wouldn’t she believe you.
Ms. Park was one of the only people in the school - including the teachers - who never really looked at you based on who you were related to, which you were always grateful for.
You slipped your actual phone into your backpack just as all the other students started to flood into the classroom.
You saw one person in particular who walked in. She always sat behind you, relatively quiet and you only ever saw her hang around one person who you assumed was her close friend if not her boyfriend. You never really knew her or anything but you remembered her name from it being mentioned in passing. Hee-su.
You turned around as you saw her walk unsteadily to her desk which sat right behind Nam-ra. Her skin was as pale as ash and her face seemed lightly shiny with a thin layer of sweat. She clutched her stomach almost in pain.
“H-hey, are you okay?” You questioned her hesitantly. Rightly so as she looked up to you in a panic and stared at you with a slightly terrified look in her eyes.
“Yes,” she said almost too quickly. You felt hurt for a moment as you figured she was just scared of you because of your brother like so many others were until you saw the fear in her eyes. This wasn’t a fear directed at you but more of a fear of getting found out, of being caught. “Y-yes, I’m fine.” Her hand found its way back down where she almost imperceptibly caressed her sweatshirt covered stomach. You let out a silent gasp and she looked at you with an unbridled amount of terror when she realized you had figured it out.
You gave her a hesitant and small, but extremely genuine, smile as you slowly reached for the hand that she had resting on her desk to give it a small squeeze. She returned the smile after a moment of her face being in complete shock as she was completely shocked by your actions. You let her hand go and turned around just as you noticed two girls behind her putting on sweatpants underneath their skirts. You let out a small faint laugh as you did see them. Although you stopped doing that years ago, it was always a perk to know how to change your clothes in public even while wearing a full set.
A large group of boys gathered your attention once you turned back around and you watched them as they talked and laughed with each other. You didn’t bother listening to their conversation but you just watched as your arms formed a pillow on the desk for your chin to rest on and you dreamed about what it would be like to be a part of a group like that.
Suddenly, the girl you knew as On-jo stormed into the classroom, obviously annoyed, and threw a backpack at Cheong-san who just smirked at her as she sat down. You smiled lightly as you saw their interaction, they did this every single day without fail and you couldn’t help but find it endearing. Anyone with eyes could see that Cheong-san liked On-jo except for her apparently.
Even though you didn’t know any of the people in your class, you knew all of their names. Perks of being the outcast you guessed. You hardly had anyone to focus your attention on so you focused your attention on the people around you. You had Nam-ra but she was always absorbed into her schoolwork.
She had disclosed her insecurities and fears before: how she was scared to let her grades drop and her mom to get angry at her; how she was scared to open up to anyone else and get to know them because of how her mother would compare her to them as well as because she never really knew how; how she was hesitant to let you over to her house or even just tell her mom about you because she wasn’t sure how she would react to you being apart of the Yoon family. Though Nam-ra never judged you based on your family for even a second, she knew her mother would.
It hurt at times but you understood.
So you decided to get to know your classmates through your ears and their voices.
Getting snapped out of your thoughts when the right classroom door opened again, you noticed a familiar tall figure walk in and take his bag off before walking over to the group of boys who were still talking about a girl who worked at a store they had went to.
You heard Wu-jin make a comment about smelling his feet from across the classroom and you let out a small giggle.
One which caught the attention of the talked about boy and he looked over at you with his brown eyes. He shot you a small smile before walking over and draping his arms over the shoulders of Gyeong-su and Cheong-san.
“Then I’ll break his fingers-” Wu-jin started but was cut off as a familiarly irritating voice filled the air and Na-yeon walked in.
“Hey!” Unfortunately for Gyeong-su, he was sitting on her desk so he gained the full force of her wrath.
“Whoa. What the fuck?” Joon-yeong exclaims as Na-yeon walks up to them and he flinches slightly at her presence which you stiffle a laugh at, not bothering to pick your head up from your arms as you continue to watch them, waiting for what would happen next.
“Get off of there. You stink.” Na-yeon said to Gyeong-su and he got quickly got off, a little confused by her harsh demeanor.
“Oh, okay. My bad,” he said while getting up. “What’s the big deal? Sorry.” He tried to use his sleeve to wipe the surface of the desk off before she yanked her bag off and smacked his hand away.
“Cut it out! You’re so dirty,” she insulted.
Gyeong-su blinked once as he comprehended what she just said to him. “Hey, what the hell?” He asked, you could hear the slight trace of annoyance and hurt beneath the calm outer tone he portrayed.
Cheong-san came up behind him and wrapped his arms around him to prevent him from starting something in the classroom. “Hey, just let it go,” he said as the bell chimed.
“What the hell is your problem?” Wu-jin asked as he walked past her and she elbowed him in the ribs.
At the display of slight aggression, you lifted your head from your hands and Na-yeon noticed immediately. The fight went out of her eyes and she just stood there, looking at you fearfully as you sat back in your chair and glared at her with your arms crossed and your head tilted ever so slightly to the side.
The others did not seem to notice her lack of involvement in the argument anymore and continued asking her questions before Ms. Park entered the room. “Hey, you punks.” Her tone implied how tired she was of dealing with her students’ shit and you turned your head to the window to hide your slight smile at it. “Come on guys. Take your seats. Come on, move it!” She rolled her eyes as she got to her desk and placed her things down as the class finally settled down and everyone was in their seats.
“Hi there,” she said to the class, her face still portraying her annoyed face until she heard half of the class repeat her greeting back to her, some even waving childishly at her. She smiled. “Hi. Good morning. Time to hand in your phones, everyone!”
Starting with the front row, everyone stood up to hand their phones in and place them into the grey box with little numbered rectangular holes marking each one for the phones to fit in until the end of each day. Before you could even consider standing up, Nam-ra grabbed your phone from where it was placed on your desk and started walking towards Ms. Park’s desk with it. It was something she had offered to do the second day you had started chatting and considering each other to be friends and she had done it ever since.
After everyone had given their phones over, Ms. Park started speaking again. “Who’s in touch with Hyeon-ju?” Nobody answered but a few looked hesitant. “Nobody? So none of you have tried calling her today?”
Joon-yeong cleared his throat before speaking, “Uh, we cleaned the science lab together yesterday, but I haven’t seen her since.”
She sighed, “Okay, if anyone hears from her sometime within the next few days, let me know right away, okay?” Everyone nodded and replied with ‘Okay’s.’ She pulled one of the phones from the box and started doing something with it as she started going back to the topic of school. “Exams start soon, so get your acts together.”
You could see from in front of you the two “brothers” fighting as Wu-jin saw Dae-su holding his phone underneath the table when suddenly his and another phone, you guessed either On-jo’s or I-sak’s just based on location, rang out with a notification.
“I heard that,” Ms. Park let out a little groan of annoyance. “Hand over your phones, please.”
As Dae-su and I-sak stood up to go and turn their phones in, Dae-su made a show of holding onto his phone for dear life with two hands as Ms. Park tried to take it. It slipped from his grasp and she gave him a certain look as he backed away and gave a slight bow in apology.
Noticing one of the phones was not what she knew it should have been, Park took it out and saw it was On-jo’s number slot. “On-jo. This is your phone from last year.” The class snickered. “Take it please.” As On-jo did the walk of shame to replace her old and broken phone with her new and working one, Ms. Park placed the box in one of her drawers. “I will be back in a few minutes. Nam-ra, please watch over the class in my absence.”
Nam-ra gave a nod and Ms. Park smiled before walking out. True to her word, she was only gone for a few minutes before coming back in and starting the class.
For the majority of the class, you just drew little figures and doodles in the corner on your notebook, not writing much down and only paying attention through listening. Because your brother took this class last year, you would often sit down with him at the kitchen counter after school and do your homework with him. Being too skilled for your own grade, he would always print a copy of his work for you to do. You would whine and complain each time but it was nice to have something a bit more challenging - especially something like learning a new language as complex as English - since you were constantly bored in class.
Little did you know it would lead to you being bored in most of your classes the next year too. Oh well, at least you were fluent in English now.
“‘In fact, none of us are completely free from prejudice. We all have preconceived ideas about others.’” Ms. Park recited in English before switching back to Korean. “Here, ‘free from’ means the lacking in or unencumbered by. Anyone want to interpret this?” She started tapping on the wall as she waited for someone to volunteer. Just before she was about to pick someone to answer, the scraping of a chair against the granite floor was heard and you turned in your seat to look at Hee-su as she stood up. She looked even worse than she did before. “Okay. Hee-su?”
Ms. Park smiled in relief as she waited for her to respond only to get a shaky and quiet reply back. “I need to use the bathroom.”
“Oh, okay. Go.”
You gave Hee-su a reassuring smile when she looked down at you in a panic and you could see some of her anxiety melting off of her shoulders before she grabbed her bag and slowly walked - or wobbled - out of the classroom and in the direction of what you knew to be the nurse’s office.
Just as you were about to turn back around, your eyes caught on another’s. Su-hyeok sat there and was looking at you with a soft look in his eyes and his lips upturned into a small smile that he seemed to only have reserved for you based off of how you’ve seen him smile around his friends.
To be honest you weren’t sure if you should feel special or left out.
Giving him a small smile back, you turned back around in your seat just as the teacher called on Nam-ra to answer and she expressed her interpretation of the quote.
“The truth is, all of us have some sort of prejudice. We all have preconceptions about other people,” she said confidently and you looked down to hide your proud smirk while twirling your pencil around in your hands.
“Hmm, okay, nice,” Park praised before directing her attention to Su-hyeok who was drawing and smiling into his notebook, obviously not paying attention to what Nam-ra was saying or anything being taught. “Next, Bare-su. Stand up.”
Some of the students let out small giggles as they heard what she called him. “Yes?” he asked, unsure of why he was being called on.
“What’s with ‘Bare-su’?” She asked and he just stood there for a few moments in silence as he comprehended her words. Luckily, or unluckily depending on who you ask, Joon-seong answered for him.
“It’s short for Barefoot Su-hyeok. Bare-su for short.”
“He hates wearing socks. He’s so weird about it,” Dae-su interjected after Joon-seong was finished before looking back at Su-hyeok and maintaining eye contact while saying, “I can smell it from a mile away,” and plugging his nose dramatically as his face scrunched up as if smelling something extremely gross.
You let out an airy laugh that you thought was quiet enough to not be heard, especially under the noise of your classmates laughing as well, but Dae-su practically gave himself whiplash from how fast he spun around to look at you in surprise.
It was no secret you were not the most expressive of people at the school, competing with Nam-ra for how little you showed most of the time.
Although just like her, it was a defense mechanism.
“Okay, Bare-su,” Ms. Park said after her own laughs had calmed down. “What did Nam-ra say a minute ago?” She interrogated and you could basically see how Su-hyeok froze under her gaze.
Dae-su, who still had been looking at you in shock, whipped back around to face forward when you caught his eye and gave him a small and unsure smile.
“Uh…” Su-hyeok started and you looked back over at him only to see him looking at you almost in a plea for help. You were sure to everyone else, though, it just looked like he was looking at Nam-ra.
The whole class mocked him and he smiled while rolling his eyes. “She was absolutely correct. A hundred percent,” he confidently stated and the class, including Ms. Park, all laughed at his attempt to get out of the situation.
“What was her absolutely correct answer then?” Ms. Park didn’t let up.
“Hmm… All right,” he started again and shot you one last hopeful look. “I-huh?”
Everything stopped when the left door slid open and a bloody Hyeon-ju walked into the classroom. A few students stood up and walked toward her before she collapsed onto the floor with Ms. Park just barely catching her. At that, everyone, including yourself, stood up and rushed over to the scene. You slid onto your knees to kneel beside your teacher, ignoring how your knees ached from the impact, and placed your fingers over her pulse to find her heartbeat extremely irregular; speeding up to a BPM of 160 then slowing back down to a 40.
“Her heartbeat is irregular, I’ve never felt or seen something like this. She is also sweating profusely despite being very cold. She should be covered with blankets to help sweat off whatever infection she’s contracted as well as taken to the hospital immediately.” You told Ms. Park in a low tone that only the people in the small circle surrounding the girl could hear.
Then, you could hear the soft and slurred words she was saying, leaning your head down closer to hear what they were.
“Ms. Park…” she whispered, her eyes unfocused and head lolling back despite being in Ms. Park’s arms.
“Yeah, it’s me. Do you recognize me?” Said woman asked.
“He grabbed me… The science teacher grabbed me and locked me up.”
Ms. Park, as well as most of the other students, had a shocked look on her face before she shook it off. “He locked you up? The science teacher? Mr. Lee Byeong-chan?”
“He tied me up…” Hyeon-ju sounded more slurred yet scared by the second as she continued with her story.
“I told you, didn’t I?” Na-yeon said arrogantly from behind the scene.
“Na-yeon, shut it,” you spoke out quietly while taking off your jacket and using it to cover Hyeon-ju’s startlingly still body. You assumed it must have been because of the shock.
Because of your concentration, you didn’t see the petrified look on Na-yeon’s face and how she bowed down slightly toward you.
“I suggest we take her to the infirmary at least, there you should call for an ambulance to come and get her so she can be put into more suitable hands,” you started to take over the situation since you could tell Ms. Park was obviously too shocked and shaken by what was happening that all she could do was hold Hyeon-ju in her arms. “Su-hyeok, you’re the strongest so you should carry her there,” you looked him in the eyes as you spoke and could see the determination lighting a fire within them. “On-jo, I-sak,” both girls stiffened at your voice being directed at them which you tried not to let affect you or your voice and continued with your instructions. “You two should go along with him and Ms. Park to be of any assistance they might need. The nurse is alone today so she might need help.”
Both girls nodded at your instructions and you quickly grabbed Hyeon-ju to help situate her onto Su-hyeok’s back. Just before they all left, you whispered a quick, “Be careful,” into Su-hyeok’s ear and he only gave a very mild nod before rushing off with the three girls.
You all sat there as you waited for the teacher and students to get back, most ignoring Ms. Park’s instructions of staying in your seats and doing your school work in favor of gossiping or playing cards with each other.
You sat with your headphones in and your music playing just loud enough to blare out the noise of everyone talking as you rested your head on your arms once again. When I-sak came in, you lowered your music and heard her talking about what happened with the girl.
“It’s no joke. She was biting people and thrashing around!” As you tried to gather all of her symptoms together and come up with a diagnosis, the closest thing you could come up with was just a cold with how little information you were given. The biting part didn’t make a whole lot of sense.
Whatever the science teacher did to her must have been something extreme.
Before you knew it, the bell had rung and neither On-jo nor Su-hyeok had returned so you wrote a note on a sticky note for Su-hyeok and waited for everyone to leave the classroom. Nam-ra told you she would save a spot for you at your normal lunch table until you told her not to worry about it and you were more than likely just going to eat it while underneath the cherry blossom tree like you did most days anyways. She nodded in acknowledgement and gave you a smile and a wink as she saw the name written on the sticky note. Once everyone had left, you walked over to Su-hyeok’s desk and placed the sticky note on his desk. As you went to walk away, you noticed a drawing of the top half of a girl holding a flower in the top right corner of his open-notebook. She looked familiar but you couldn’t place your finger on it. Noticing the slight pang in your chest, you shook your head and just decided you would ask him about it when you guys were to call next; maybe even earlier if you could catch him when nobody was around.
After grabbing your lunch and heading down to the garden section where only a few people hung around during lunch, you situated yourself underneath the cherry blossom tree and started munching on your food. With your headphones in and your music playing, you were unable to hear the screams of terror that were slowly getting louder as they approached you.
As you leaned your head back against the tree trunk, the rhythmic beat of your favorite song playing through your ears and the rest of the world canceled out, you didn’t notice the horde getting closer.

“Hey babe, you home?” Kelly called for you as he opened the apartment door.
“Hey I’m here,” you sighed as you chuckled softly.
“How are my two favourite girls doing?” He asked, setting his duffel bag on the floor before coming to snuggle up with you on the couch.
“We’re ok, feeling like a beached whale though, baby.”
“We are in the home stretch. Take it easy these last few weeks.”
“Oh we’re taking it easy all right. I sat on this couch all day and did nothing, but watch The Bachelor,” you laughed, “how was shift?”
“A car wreck, nothing major. Then I came home early for you,” he leaned over and gave you a peck on the lips before getting up from the couch.
“Where are you going?” You gave Kelly your best puppy dog eyes.
“Well I thought I was going to shower,” he chuckled.
“Can you get me some water and a snack?”
“What about water and some breakfast?”
“Oh, the baby could really use some of your bacon and french toast.”
“You sit here, I’ll make us some french toast.”
“Don’t forget the bacon,” you teased as he went to the kitchen to start preparing your feast.
“Breakfast on the couch or the table?” Kelly called, plates clanging in the background.
“How about from our bed?” You laughed back, “I’ve had a long day.”
“You’re growing an entire human, that’s a long enough day as it is without you having to work from home too,” he brought the plates to your night stands and came back for you.
You got up from the couch with his help and started to waddle over to the bed.
“Hopefully only another few hours of working from home,” you sighed, getting under the quilt your mom made you as a wedding gift.
“Heard from the doctor yet?” He asked, sliding into the bed with a coffee in his hand.
“Called this morning. She got a cancellation for this afternoon at 3 to do another ultrasound and checkup so I don’t have go by myself,” you replied, digging into your stack of french toast.
“Our daughter is the luckiest,” he leaned down to kiss your belly.
“With your as her daddy, I have no doubt,” you moved your plate to your night stand and rested your head on his shoulder.
“As of now, I’ll only be away for one more shift before she’s born.”
“How long is Boden giving you for paternity leave?”
“I’m only going to take six weeks. Then I’m gonna use up some furlough, so I’ll be off with you for about eight weeks.”
“I thought you had more time saved up.”
“I get 12 weeks every two years. If we have more kids, I want to have the time to be off both times, baby.”
“I don’t know if I want them that close together though,” you laughed.
“Never know. We didn’t expect this one.”
“That’s true I guess. Hey, what time is it?”
“1:28, why?”
“I have a call at 1:30.”
“What do you need for it?”
“Just my laptop and AirPods.”
“I’ll grab them for you quick.”
He walked across the bedroom to the desk and brought you your things to start your call. He wondered out of the room so you could present in peace.
Kelly walked back into your bedroom near the end of your call. You were just saying goodbye to some coworkers since your maternity leave officially started as soon as your call was finished. You closed your laptop and put it to the side.
“Ready to go?” He asked.
“One thing first,” you smiled.
“Which is…?”
“Can you tie my shoes please?” You laughed.
“Of course, but let’s get going. I haven’t seen the baby in a couple months.”
“I know, I know, my shoes are on the floor by the door.”
“Let’s get you up then, we’ve got to go.”
As you pulled up to the doctor’s office, a flutter of excitement filled your heart. Walking into the office, you always dreaded that the OB’s office was on the second floor. You had a seat and waited your turn. Kelly always made sure you were there early after all.
“Mrs Severide?” A nurse called.
You stood up and Kelly held your hand into the exam room.
“There’s a gown on the bed with a blanket. Please put the gown on, the doctor will be in soon,”
“Thank you,” Kelly smiled.
The nurse left the room and you stood by the bed. Kelly sitting in the chair by your side. You started to change and your husband tied the sides of your gown together for you. He helped you onto the bed, draping the blanket over your legs and belly.
There was a knock on the door, “Hi, it’s Dr Calhoun.”
“Come in,” you answered.
Dr. Calhoun closed the door behind her as she came into the exam room.
“How are the parents-to-be feeling today?” She asked.
“A little wobbly, but happy to finally be on maternity leave,” you laughed.
“And how are you feeling, Kelly?”
“A little nervous, but excited,” he replied.
“Any concerns with the pregnancy since we last saw you? From either of you?” Dr Calhoun asked, pulling up your chart on the computer.
“Nothing that I’ve noticed. Just really tired,” you replied.
“That is to be expected, you’re in the home stretch.”
“Kelly said the same thing,” you laughed, “it does help my case of getting him to cook for me when he’s not on shift though.”
“Sounds like you’re doing well then,” she laughed, “let’s take a look at this baby girl.”
She pulled the ultrasound wand and gel out. Kelly held your hand.
“It’s gonna be a little cold, I’m sorry,” she announced.
She squirted the gel onto your belly and flicked the machine on. Swirling the wand around your belly, she turned the screen so you could see the image.
“She’s bigger than the last time I’ve seen her,” Kelly laughed, kissing your hand.
“She has grown a lot in the last month or two,” you smiled, “how’s she looking?”
“Active and growing well. Do you mind if I ask you guys something?” Dr Calhoun asked.
“Sure, is something wrong?” Kelly asked.
“Not at all. How big were you both when you were born?” She replied.
“I believe I was just under seven pounds, and I think Kelly’s mom said he was over 9 pounds. Why?” You replied.
“Your daughter is measuring larger than what we had originally thought. Almost nine and a half pounds. I’m worried about the risk of shoulder dystocia, and I’m thinking it may be easier on you and your baby if you opted for a c-section in the next week or two. A c-section isn’t an easier way out though and the recovery may be difficult.”
“But I’m only 36 weeks, shouldn’t we let her mature a little more?”
“Given her size already, she should be okay to deliver even tomorrow.”
“Kelly still has another shift left before he’s on leave. I don’t think I’m-“ you were starting to shift around on the bed.
“Babe, I’ll take some more furlough. It’ll be okay. Let’s just focus on you and the baby right now,” Kelly stroked your hair, “we’ll be okay.”
“Your baby has grown very well. I am not as worried about her progression as I am about your ability to recover and your baby’s risk of complications. I’ll give you a minute,” Dr Calhoun replied, walking towards the door, “I’ll be back in a few minutes.”
She closed the door behind her and tears filled your eyes.
“What do you think we should do?” Kelly asked.
“If the doctor thinks this is what’s best, I think we should do it,” you wiped the tears from your eyes.
“I’m sorry I make such big babies,” he laughed, rubbing your belly.
“Just means we get to meet her sooner. I think we should do this.”
“When do you want to schedule it?”
“After your next shift. Make sure you don’t have to take any more time off.”
“I would happily take more time off for you and our little girl.”
“Thank you,” your eyes started to swell with tears of joy.
“Knock knock,” Dr Calhoun said, entering the exam room, “have you made a decision or would you like more time?”
“I think we’ve made a decision,” you smiled, “let’s do this as soon as possible.”
“Okay, I’ll leave some paperwork with the nurse at the desk. She’ll get you booked in and give you some instructions. See you both soon. Rest up. Oh and, as always, give us a call if something happens or if you have questions.”
“Thank you Doctor Calhoun.”
Dr Calhoun left the exam room and Kelly helped you change. You made your way to the front desk and booked your c-section. Saturday at 11:30am. Two days away.
Leaving the office, you felt excited. As Kelly started to drive you home, you noticed he seemed excited, but nervous.
“Hey, do you want to stop by 51 on our way home?” You asked, “to tell them the news?”
“Do you mind?”
“Not at all. Then it gives you a chance to talk to Boden.”
Kelly made a u-turn back in the direction of the firehouse. You were only a few minutes away. He smiled from ear to ear as you pulled up.

1. Tangled Memories ~ Lee Know AU
Tumblr media
Post Traumatic Amnesia (PTA) is a transient state of confusion, disorientation and memory loss that occurs immediately following a traumatic brain injury. PTA is sometimes also referred to as post traumatic confusional state and can occur from the moment of injury until the return of continuous memory.
The accident was a tragedy.
But it was the best tragedy to ever happen to you.

This is part 1 - pt 2, 3, & 4 is in the masterlist linked above :)
Warnings: angst, f!reader, enemies to lovers, drunk driving, gaslighting, Fighting, yelling, cursing, angst, heartbreak, lies, angst, accidents, not proofread, minho is mean, lmk if I missed anything!!

~
Being late was one of your biggest pet peeves. One time when you were 13, someone told you that being late was rude because it shows no regard for other people's times, and for some reason, that just stuck with you. Ever since, you have never allowed yourself to be late to anything, no matter how insignificant it may be. This is odd, because you truly do not mind whenever someone is late to do something with you. Even though you find it annoying at times.
Times like today, when you have been waiting for one of your best friends to pick you up for at least 30 minutes, you do find it a bit bothersome. Waiting for Bang Chan is always a chore, how can someone be late to everything? You are halfway convinced that he was probably late to his own birth. Maybe he'll be late to his own wedding as well. You wouldn't put it past him.
19:38
Christopher: here
"Finally!" You say to yourself at the sight of the message, as you jump out of the couch and quickly grab your wallet and keys.
Much to your dismay, Chris isn't alone. The literal spawn of Satan and the bane of your existence sits in the passenger seat.
It's not that you and Minho casually disliked each other, it was more so loathing and pure hatred. It didn't start that way, but the relationship has evolved to a point of no return.
Before you met Bang Chan, you met Minho, and the two of you were in the same class. It was eight in the morning, and you could say that neither of you were morning people at all. During your first encounter he spilled hot coffee on you after bumping into each other. Neither had seen the other, him because he was looking down at his phone, you because you had your eyes glued to the flash cards in order to study for a test. It was just unlucky.
"Dude, what the heck?" You ask, while looking down at your spoiled shirt and cards you were holding.
"That was like $6 dollars." He points at the cup on the ground.
Did he want you to pay for it? After he spilled it?
"And this shirt was like 30 bucks!" You told him
"Oh yeah? Cry me a river dude." The two of you got progressively louder in your argument until class started and you both walked to opposite sides of the room, huffing and puffing, but not bothering to come to a conclusion for the minor inconvenience.
The next time the two of you interacted with each other, was a couple of months down the line. Luck has never been your strong suit, so you weren't even surprised when Minho was announced to be your project partner. However, close proximity just made everything worse.
Every meeting the two of you held, turned into a screaming match. The arguments were always blown out of proportion, most of the time they were over the font size, or the color of the slides, sometimes it was over who would speak when. It was petty, but neither of you liked the other, and you were both petty people. Once the project was over, you made it your life mission to avoid him and he did the same to you.
Once again, your luck showed its true colors when your new friend Bang Chan wanted to introduce you to his group of friends. The second the two of you walked inside of the pizza parlor, you heard a loud groan.
Looking around to see where the sound came from, you were met with the only person you strongly disliked at your university.
"Please don't tell me that witch is your friend." Minho closed his eyes, fearful of what he knows Chris' answer was going to be.
"The two of you know each other?" Was his response and that sparked the never ending rivalry that you both had to this day.
In your head, you attempted to be civil, but in reality, you kept on belittling him, and always disagreeing with whatever he had to say. He always did the same to you, but you were both Chan's friend's and neither of you wanted to back down.
If either of you had been more rational, or less headstrong, then everything would have blown over, but you and Minho weren't mature at all. A petty resentment ended up turning into so much more.
One day, he brought the whole group coffee, but forgot to get you one as well. So in return, you invited the group for a night out, and you forgot to invite him.
He made plans for everyone to meet at an arcade, but he told you the wrong address, and led you to the one on the other side of town. He bought a new speaker, so you stole it when Chris was cat-sitting.
When everyone was in the lake, he casually picked up your phone and threw it in the water. The next day he had a swarm of bees infesting his car.
The "pranks" as you two would call them, soon became so much worse. All bets were off the table. The guys honestly thought that the two of you were the unluckiest people in the world, they no idea that you were the cause for each other's misery.
He would see your car parked outside of a shop, and would casually slash one of your tires. Then he would wait outside and say something among the lines of "That's unfortunate." And leave you stranded. In turn, you would go to his place in the middle of the night and black out his car windows with spray paint.
It felt like the two of you were out for blood. You were always arguing, the arguments always hit home for the both of you, always targeting insecurities and sensitive subjects. You tried not to talk to each other when out with other people, but the second either of you made eye contact or spoke, a small bomb always went off.
The guys tried keeping you separated from each other, but at times, the task was impossible to maintain.
The issue was that the two of you were too much like each other. Both with iron walls incasing your heart, both with words like venom towards those who deserved it, both with eyes as cold as ice, and both with burning fury that was reserved for one another.
Bang Chan would try to mediate, and get you guys to talk it out, he knew that if you did, you guys could be friends. Every time he tried, he'd end up having to put down a fire. The animosity was just too much, especially when neither of you could act like an adult and avoid conflict. So eventually, everyone gave up and viewed your arguing as the new norm.
"Why is he here?" You asked Chris as you climbed on the back seat.
"Why the fuck do you think I'm here?" Minho replies without taking his eyes off his phone.
"Someone called to get his car towed and he can't pick it up until Monday." Explained Chan as he began driving.
"Who would do such a thing?" Your feigned surprise earns you an eyeroll from Minho.
Neither of you ever told the true nature of your evil antics to the guys. The both of you actually cared about your friends, and you both were aware that if they knew, they would be pissed at the way you have been treating each other for the past year. Maybe they could let some mean comments slide, but nothing to this degree.
The car ride was mainly silent. Except for when you and Chan would be having a conversation and Minho would hop in with a snarky remark. When you arrived to Changbin's house, the area was neat and tidy.
Key words. When you arrived.
Now, there were cups everywhere, pillows thrown, liquids spilled, and much more. It's like a tornado had ransacked the place. However, it was no tornado, it was you and Minho.
The movie was long forgotten, and the rest of the guys were laying on the couch, scrolling through their phones, while waiting for the new argument to calm down.
It started over something stupid, as per usual, you had been sitting next to Jeongin. He was talking about the new Exorcist movie that was coming out, and you made a stupid joke about Minho being the scariest thing in the room.
Maybe it was the wrong day to mess with him, or maybe it was because his car was locked in a parking lot somewhere. One thing was for sure, it was definitely the wrong time.
He grabbed the little cushion nearest to him and chucked it your way with a little too much strength and it hit you straight in the face.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?"
"It's just a pillow. Calm down."
So without giving it much thought, you flung the cup that had been in your hand towards him, spilling red liquid everywhere, mainly on Minho.
"Here we go again." Whispered Jisung as he pulled his phone out of his pocket.
"What the fuck is your problem!?"
And like that, a full blown argument started, it went from throwing things and yelling, to finally approaching one another and yelling in each others faces.
Every now and then Chan would tune in to the argument, hoping that it would blow over as soon as possible. He was annoyed, but he knew it was bound to happen, even though he hoped it would be a smaller argument night. He cared so much about Minho and you, that's the reason he hadn't cut anyone out, but he had ran out of options. He knew why Minho was the way that he was, and he knew why you were just like him.
Minho had dreams when he was growing up. Dreams that he sacrificed everything for. He gave up on his youth to join a dance team in hopes to one day become a K-pop idol. He spent countless of nights practicing until the middle of the night. While everyone was out partying and enjoying their high school years, Minho joined a K-pop company and he had been so close to debuting with a group. He trained with said group for years, and became best friends with them. Once they were at the end of the race, Minho was cut from the group and let go by the company. All of his efforts, years, blood, and tears, wasted. Now he had to watch his closest friends become global super stars and he had nothing. He isolated himself and gave up on dancing, he vowed never to dance again. He enrolled into university and built walls around himself. He hated himself, and Chan figures that he still does. Haunted by the shame and guilt of never being good enough, he became bitter and angry. He held so much anger in. It wasn't until he met a shy boy called Jisung, when things changed for him, but his walls were still up. Despite caring about his friends, his scars still ran deep.
Chan didn't know much about you though. You only ever allowed bits and pieces to slip through your fingers. Your guard was up too. Lacking trust on everyone, you barely ever talked about your past. Always telling Chan and yourself that it was your own burden to carry, and no one should bother with it. He didn't know much about your family, the only thing you ever told him was in passing when talking about Christmas plans.
"Are you going home for the holidays this year?"
"I have no reason to." You and Chan were walking to the nearest target to pick up baking powder to make cookies later.
Rubbing his hands together to keep warm, he looks at you in confusion. "To see your family?'
"I have no family."
The subject dropped immediately. He can sometimes see through the cracks though. He sees the way you never let yourself cry, and the way that whenever something bad happens to you, your smile falters but remains. He always questioned how much of your happiness was faked.
So Chan holds out hope. You and Minho were broken in different ways, but similar in many more things. The way that you are protective of the people that you care about is the same way that Minho protects his loved ones too. Like you two are afraid of losing and letting go. You had lost too much and you both refused to keep on losing more. You are both rocks, never letting too many emotions seep through. More importantly, you both carried the same anger. Probably the only emotion you guys show freely, both bold and unrelenting. When he introduced the two of you, he should have known that was introducing a hurricane to a tornado.
He is broken out of his train of thought by your voice.
"Let me fucking go!" Minho had you wrist in hand, presumably gripping it with too much force.
"You were going to hit me bitch." He was right, you raised your hand to slap him after a particularly nasty comment.
"Guys! Calm down! Minho, let her go." Chan got up and grabbed Minho's wrist in turn, but he wasn't letting you go.
"You deserved it asshole."
"Now I get why your family fucking left you." Ouch. He probably didn't know your story, it wasn't possible, but he probably came to the assumption that you weren't exactly close to your family based on the fact that you never talk about them or visit them. Maybe he heard one of the guys talking about it. Either way, it hurt.
"Maybe if you weren't such a dick, you would have actually made it in life, you fucking failure."
His lips shift ever so slightly. Only you notice it while everyone is trying to calm or separate the two of you.
"Get the fuck out." Strangely calm, the change of tone almost gives you whiplash. This was eerie, there was nothing in his voice, completely void of all emotion. Even anger.
"This isn't even your house." Disbelief clear in your response.
"No one wants to hang out with a fucking whore that only came around because she fucked her way into the group."
"Minho!" Chan screams while still trying to get one of you out of the room, it was like separating rabid animals from one another.
You stood in shock. It wasn't true, but it somewhat was. You and Chris had a one night stand, it meant nothing. You two actually had breakfast the next morning and decided to remain as friends, but you were always scared that anyone would think that you had other intentions.
"You are truly fucking delusional if you think that any of us will still speak with you after college. I'm a fucking failure but at least I know I won't die alone like you. You're going to end up alone." Ouch part two. It's like he knows what he's aiming at.
Everyone in the room had their eyes on you. No one knew what to say. The insults never ran as deep, they were always over superficial things around them, but this time Minho wanted you gone.
"So maybe, it would be best if you grabbed your shit and left, because I promise you that no one here would follow."
"Fuck this." You didn't have to take the humiliation, and you couldn't allow anyone to see you faulter. So you take his advice and make your way out.
Everyone was in too much shock to prevent you from leaving. To you, that meant that Minho was right. They don't care about you and apparently no one does. Just like that, you're willing to let a year of friendship go down the drain. If they're going to leave you anyway, what's the point of sticking by?
Maybe you'll do them all a favor and disappear from their lives.
This wasn’t like you though. You’re able to brush off insults like dust. It wasn’t a big deal at all, it shouldn’t have gotten to you the way it did, especially because Minho said it. Maybe it was the mixed drinks that Hyunjin had been making you all night. Either way, you knew that you needed a second to clear your head.
It was dark outside. Traffic was aggressive and loud, but that didn't matter to you at that moment. Your own thoughts were more unbearable than that.
Inside of Changbin's house, everyone was attacking Minho.
"Why the hell would you say that?" Said Jengin.
"That was fucked up Minho." Hyunjin said as he made his way to the kitchen.
Minho had to get defensive, "Did you people not hear the shit that she was telling me?! Why is it always "Minho said this, Minho said that" When that bitch is probably even worse than I am?" Through his rant, Chan could see a crack. The usual coldness is gone, replaced by desperation. Minho hated his own thoughts. Why were his friends not on his side? Why is he always the villain? For a second Chan sees an emotion that he has barely ever seen Minho wear, fear.
"Jisung?" Minho turns to Han, the name sounded like a question, maybe even a plea. If anyone were to be on his side, it would be his best friend.
Han stares at him blankly. "You took it way to far Min. Even for you, that was low."
"Even for me? You guys are making me seem like a damn demon!" Chan goes to put a hand on his shoulder but Minho is quick to shake it off. Avoiding is something Minho has always excelled at.
Overwhelmed by the situation, he also walks out of the door, he can't let them see him faulter.
As he begins to walk, if feels oddly similar to the night he was kicked out of the company. It had been raining that night and Minho walked home. He felt that he wasn't even worth getting a taxi. The word "useless" replayed in his head that entire night, similarly to how he felt right in that second.
He thought of what he told you. He didn't regret it at all, but he couldn't get away from thinking, he might die alone too.
The relationship between the two of you had always been strange to him, to say the least. It's almost as if he was expected to hate you. To be honest, he couldn't quite remember how you guys met or why you hated each other so much. He just knew that you spawned into his life and made it hell, and he wouldn't go down without a fight. Just hearing your name brough him annoyance, like a natural recoil in his body runs away from you.
Maybe he hated himself so much, that when your eyes mirrored his, he couldn't stand it. Maybe the both of you saw everything you hated about yourselves in one another that you couldn't help but to fight back. Neither of you realized it though.
While Minho was trying to clear his head, he noticed something down the block. It seemed like emergency lights. Similarly like the cat in the saying, Minho got curious and quickly walked toward the hoard of people. After pushing through the bodies, he's met with a surprising sight.
It was you, on a stretcher.
His eyes wide with shock, wonder for a bit, trying to take the situation in. He looks around and sees a car, not far own the road, with a smashed windshield and blood splatter on the broken glass. A cop is restraining a man right beside it, who must have been the man driving. The people around are simply blocking space and gasping at the sight.
Minho wanted to hop in the ambulance out of instinct. He wanted to jump into action and tell the paramedics that he knew you, but he held himself back. You wouldn't want him there and he didn't want to be with you either. So he stood in place, confused and in a daze as he saw the paramedics close the doors of the ambulance and speed away.
It wasn't until the area started to clear out that his brain came back into focus.
Despite the knot building at the base of his throat, and his gut tightening, he pulls out his phone. With shaky hands he taps on Chan's name.
"Hello?" The heavy Australian accent is heard once Minho brings his phone to his ear.
"Y/N is hurt."
~
A/N: This was originally going to be a big 20k word chapter. im excited to write it - it'll probably be a total of thee parts. Maybe two.

Can you do a 5 + 1 style fic for Tess? Mix in fluff and smut and angst. Maybe 5 times she says she loves you? +1 Or 5 times she kisses you? Something like that. Thanks for taking the time I love your stuff ❤️
5 times Tess kissed you and 1 time she couldn’t

A/N- I haven’t written a 5+1 in forever so this was fun! Honestly she’s a soft little baby for the majority of this, mostly cause I wanted to make the 1 hurt more 😃 she’s sweet and soft. She’s baby. The dialogue from the end part is not directly taken from the show cause I don’t like taking all the exact dialogue I want to make it my own. So there’s pieces but not completely exact. Some are longer than others. Only proofread once.
Warnings- 18+ because there’s a smidge of smut. Fluff, drunkness / drinking, smut: oral ( r receiving ) , mentions of injury/violence,
Word count- 6.9k

ONE
It had been a really bad day.
A really bad day. One of those where every single awful thing that had ever happened to you, crept out from the dark corner of your brain that you locked them away in. Thankfully you’d had no work assignments and had spent the day hiding away in your apartment. You were supposed to have met Tess after her own assignment, plans to get rid of some of your stock on her break in between shifts. But you’d stayed home.
5 years had passed since outbreak day and the amount of shit you had seen in that time… it crept up on you from time to time. She’d understand.
She’d probably be a little bit pissed at you when you saw her next, if you were honest, but at that moment you didn’t really give a fuck. All you wanted to do was lay in bed and ignore the memories bouncing around your brain.
You’d had a decent amount of self restraint all day, you hadn’t touched either of the bottles of whiskey under your bed. Or any of the pills. It would’ve been the easy option, knock yourself out with a couple of oxy or see how much whiskey you could drink before it made you pass out. But for the most part you’d restrained yourself, knowing it would only take the pain away temporarily.
You saw it first hand in Joel. The way he dosed himself up on whatever pills he could get his hands on, only to be just as traumatised the next morning.
Though by 4:30 your self restraint was gone. You’d finally cracked open a bottle and poured yourself a glass, ready to spend your night drinking yourself into a stupor. Maybe a mixture of pride for holding out so long, but also too terrified to go to sleep. Scared of what fucked up dreams your mind might conjure up.
Until you heard a knock at the door.
You sighed in frustration and got up from your spot at the kitchen table and grabbed your keys, pulling open the door ready to tell whoever it was to piss off. But your frustration dissipated when you saw who was standing there.
Tess had her hands in her pockets, brows furrowing slightly as she looked over you. You didn’t even say anything, just left the door open and dropped your keys back on the side table by the door, leaning heavily against it.
“ oh someones started early “ she said with a raised eyebrow as she sauntered into your apartment and grabbed the bottle from the table, eyeing the glass before shrugging and drinking straight from the bottle “ how much catching up do I need to do? “
“ I only had one glass “
“ oh that’s easy “ you watched her bring the bottle to her lips again, wincing slightly as the amber liquid burned on its way down. You slid down the wall where you stood, too tired to even make the short distance back to your chair at the table “ you know there’s a perfectly good couch right? “ you waved a hand in dismissal in her direction and leant your head back against the wall behind you.
You hadn’t even done anything all day. But your muscles felt heavy, your body exhausted. There might as well have been lead in your veins, the weight of your past heavily anchoring you to the floor.
Your eyes dragged up and down her as she stood by the table, shrugging off her jacket and tossing it over the back of a chair. She took another swig from the bottle and you sighed.
“ you gonna share that or what? “ she scoffed and made her way over, groaning slightly as she sat down on the floor next to you.
“ I’m too old for sitting on the fuckin floor “ You accepted the bottle, taking a swig before holding the neck loosely between your fingers.
“ you’re barely in your fuckin 30s “
“ the ever looming fear of being turned into a mushrooms puppet will really age a person “ you rolled your eyes and took another drink. You hoped the alcohol would push the heaviness away, but Tess was enough of a distraction even if it wouldn’t.
“ gonna tell me where you were today? “ you gestured to your surroundings and she sighed, taking the bottle from you which you took right back “ what’s going on? “
“ one of them days “ one thing you loved about Tess? She didn’t pry. She didn’t push. She took what you gave her and didn’t ask for more. In the same way you always did for her. In the days where it was you at the door of her apartment. When she couldn’t bare to leave the safety of those four walls and face the day. You didn’t push.
“ I have something that’ll cheer you up” she took the bottle from you as she said it, clearly trying to catch up with the amount you were downing. The warm, fuzzy feeling alcohol gave you was settling over your head “ I was on sewer maintenance “ she drank some more “ this one fuckin officer… he was being such an ass “
“ they’re all asses “ you mumbled, sighing and closing your eyes as you let the whisky push away the heaviness and lull you into that relaxed, giggly, care free state it always did before you pushed into the next stage of drunkness. Where you couldn’t walk straight and forgot what you’d been doing when you woke up the next morning.
That first stage was nice. Bubble headed and warm, the giggles and wooziness that came with being tipsy.
“ they are. But this one? Fuckin dick “
“ how is this supposed to be funny Tess? “
“ be fuckin patient I’m getting there “ you rolled your eyes, taking the bottle back “ so he’s being an ass. And this guy was done with his shit- literally “ a string of giggles bubbled past your lips at that “ and so the ass starts shouting, telling him to get back to work. And as he’s yelling, he’s walking. Doesn’t look where he’s going “
“ oh no “ the giggles grew as you anticipated where the story was heading, shifting closer to her and turning in her direction “ god please tell me what I think you’re gonna tell me “
“ face first. Straight in the fuckin water. Half the QZs shit on his face “ you both burst into laughter, the imagine of a FEDRA asshole face first in a pile of shit water truly the highlight of your day “ I told you it would make you laugh “ she said through her own laughter, a sound you didn’t get to hear very often.
You lay your head on her shoulder and sighed, as your giggles began dying down. Tess brought a hand up and cupped your cheek lightly leaning her face against your head.
“ I like when you laugh “ she said, her voice soft “ better than seeing you grumpy “
“ yeah? “
“ yeah. I do. Its cute “ you lifted your head, your chin on her shoulder and wiggling your eyebrows at her
“ oh you think I’m cute? “ you both erupted into giggles again, your faces close to each other and laughing like a pair of kids who just got caught trying to steal cookies from the jar “ youuuu think I’m cuteee “ you said in a silly sing song voice and poked at her arm.
“ you’re wasted “
“ hmm maybe but so are you “ she shrugged and pushed your hair away from your face, tucking it behind your ear
“ maybe “ your eyes flickered to where the backs of her fingers were brushing against your cheek now, her touch gentle and soft.
“ I think you’re cute too for what it’s worth “ you said quietly, the alcohol swimming though your veins speaking words you’d been holding onto for months.
“ you do? “
“ I do “ you said it a little too quickly but you didn’t care. Not when she was that close to you, her fingers on your face and practically sat in each others laps “ I have for a while “
“ I know “ you scoffed at that, trailing you hand up her arm and brushing across her jaw lightly
“ course you fuckin do “
“ you’re not subtle “
“ and you wait until now to tell me that? That’s fucked” you said, laughing again. And it made a grin spread across her own face.
“ I can stop. I can leave and pretend I didn’t say it. Give me the word and I’ll go right now “ your hands twisted into the collar of her shirt and you shook your head.
“ is this just cause you’re drunk? “ you whispered, trying to clear away the fog in some attempt to figure out if this was real or not.
“ no “ she shook her head, nudging her nose against yours “ no. No it’s not “ all your sadness from earlier in the day was something of the past, it didn’t matter anymore. Not in that moment “ tell me to stop “ her voice was barely a whisper, so close her lips were brushing yours as she spoke.
“ m’not gonna do that “
“ good “ it was just a gentle kiss at first. Soft. Lingering. You parted for a few seconds, then she was grabbing at your face with both hands, forcefully pulling you back in a way that took the air from your lungs.
She tasted like the whiskey you’d both been drinking and… something else. Something you’d been yearning for for too long. It wasn’t exactly how you’d expected your first kiss with her to be. You hadn’t exactly imagined some movie, fairytale romance thing. But you also hadn’t imagined the current situation either.
It was desperate. All tongues and teeth, her hands tugging at the hair in the nape of your neck, yours twisting into the material of her shirt. The kind of kiss that would leave your lips swollen and red when she was done with you.
Part of your mind that wasn’t all that drunk yet, questioned if this would even be happening if you were both sober. But the louder part was screaming in excitement, telling the other to shut up. That that was something to worry about tomorrow. Not now. Not when she was kissing you like her life depended on it.
You had to pull apart at some point, gasping for air as you finally parted. You were both quiet for a few moments, just your heavy breaths the sounds between you. She moved away first, reaching for the bottle again and taking a big gulp.

TWO
Your back arched off the mattress, fingers lacing into her hair as Tess smiled against your cunt, not stopping for a single second in her ministration’s. She was eating like a woman starved, her long slender fingers reaching places inside of you that you never really knew existed.
“ Jesus fuckin Christ Tess “ you whined, hand patting around for hers. She slid the hand that had been pressing your hips down, up your waist before grabbing your hand. She threaded her fingers with yours, squeezing softly.
“ I got you baby “ she said, her voice gentle in comparison to the way she curled her fingers inside of you in a steady rhythm “ you gonna come for me? Yeah? “
“ yes. Yes. Fuck “ you whined, high pitched sounds leaving your throat as her tongue pressed against your clit again “ just like that “
You came on her fingers moments later, a bone shattering grip on her hand as she worked you through it. Not wasting a single drop your slick cunt had to offer. She stopped when you squirmed away from her, the sensation too much.
Her thumb rubbed circles into your hand and she pressed soft kisses across your thighs and your stomach as you came down, letting your breathing regain its normal pattern.
“ Tess “ you said softly, and she got the hint, moving her way back up your body and letting your grabby hands pull her down to kiss you. The taste of you lingered on her lips but you didn’t care, hand pulling at her neck to keep her there. You hummed a soft moan into her mouth, making her smile against you.
“ that good? “ she asked with a grin on her face, when she pulled back, pushing your hair away from your damp forehead.
“ it was alright I guess “ Tess scoffed and you couldn’t help the smile that spread across your face
“ you little shit “ she said with a shake of her head and nudged you lightly, rolling onto her back next to you. You propped yourself on your elbow and traced your fingers in nonsense patterns across her skin “ you in a better mood now at least? “
“ wasn’t even in a bad mood “ you grumbled, tracing over the lines of her collarbones and down her sternum and back up again. Sometimes when you couldn’t sleep you’d make patterns in her freckles, or trace your fingers over her scars and ask her where each one came from.
“ sure. You’ve been grumpy as fuck all morning “ you shrugged and she grabbed your hand that was trailing over her skin “ seemed a little happier a minute ago though ‘ oh Tess! Just like like that! ‘ “ you slapped her arm as she pulled a terrible impression of you, her voice high pitched and dramatic
“ shut up! I don’t sound like that! “ she laughed, grabbing at your hands as you tried to push her off the bed.
“ oh? You don’t? Huh? “ you clambered on top of her, grabbing at her hands and attempting to pin them down beside her head “ so that wasn’t you moaning my name less than five minutes ago? No? “
“ shut up holy shit “ she was still grinning as you managed to push her hands down in a way that was a little too easy for it not to have been intentional.
“ oh well look at you “
“ you’re mean “
“ I am? “ you nodded and leant down, lips brushing against hers.
“ so mean “ she smiled as you said it, tilting her head up to capture your lips again “ making fun of me. Such a bitch” she scoffed at that and you squealed as she pushed at you, so you were now the one with your wrists pinned against the mattress.
“ I don’t like that tone baby “ you couldn’t stop the grin that spread across your face, gasping when she pressed her thigh between your legs.
“ and what are you gonna do about it? “
“ oh. You’ll see “

THREE
The night was not going to plan. At all. You’d been fucked over. Some stupid fucker working for Robert who you were supposed to be trading with. They’d brought pills that were nothing but compacted powdered sugar, trying to screw you over.
You, Tess and Joel had secured a pretty decent name for yourself within the underground scene of Boston. People trusted you, were loyal to you and didn’t take their business else where. But with that came the fuckers who wanted to challenge it. Who wanted your client base. Wanted the power that the three of you were gaining every day.
It had gotten messy when you noticed the pills looked different, one taste telling you that you weren’t holding a baggie of Oxy or Hydro. But a bunch of useless shit. Most of the fuckers were now dead or dying in a back alley somewhere in zone 5, you both had guns and all they had were crappy shivs and planks. But somewhere In the tussle, Tess had gotten stabbed trying to defend you. Even though you could take care of yourself. A handmade shiv to the side.
You’d put him down. The metal pipe one of his friends had tried to hit you with raining down on him until you heard the sickening crunch of god knows what part of him breaking. You’d put a bullet in his face too for good measure.
It was a miracle you’d managed to get her back to your apartment without being spotted. But she was stubborn and wasn’t the type to scream and cry even if she did have a giant hole in her side.
“ alright alright. Here we go on the table I need a flat surface “ it wasn’t particularly smooth or glamorous the way you flopped her onto the kitchen table, rushing to pull various shit from cupboards in the kitchen to try and stop your girlfriend from fucking bleeding out.
“ Jesus fuckin Christ “ she groaned, closing her eyes and breathing deeply. You hurried back over to her, taking her blood soaked hands and gently pulling them away from where she was keeping pressure on her wound “ I swear to fuck if this is how I die- “
“ shut the fuck up “ you pushed up her shirt and started wiping away as much blood from the wound as you could, cleaning it as much as was possible in the circumstances “ you’re not dying. I’m no Florence fucking nightingale but I’m gonna patch you up. And you’re gonna be so pissed at me tomorrow because I stitch you up wonky, but that’s okay. Cause I saved your fucking life so you should be grateful “
She actually cracked a small smile at that, eyes locked on your face as you worked at cleaning her up.
“ so grateful “ you examined the wound in the light of the crappy portable lamps, almost thanking the Lord when it didn’t seem to be too deep. No punctured organs you could hope. You reached for the needle and thread, but your hands were shaking too much to thread the needle and you cursed under your breath “ calm down “ it almost made you laugh. She was the one with a stab wound. Yet she was comforting you. The way she always did.
“ I’m calm “
“ tell that to your face “ you glared at her and focussed on threading the needle.
You wanted to be pissed at her as she lay there watching you. She was too protective sometimes. You liked it. You couldn’t deny that but not when it meant she was getting hurt. Not when she put herself in harms way. Idiot.
You finally got the needle threaded and sat down to look at the wound.
“ not too deep it should be okay. Gonna hurt though “
“ funny I always thought you were the masochist and I was the sadist “ you threw her a look, unable to stop the smile that tugged at your lips.
“ you’re such an idiot “ her breath was shaky as you started stitching her up, trying to remain as neat as possible. She shifted as you clearly hit a more tender spot, a jumbled string of curse words leaving her mouth.
“ wait until I get my hands on that motherfucker “ she spat, hissing in pain as you pushed the needle through her skin again, trying to be quick and get it over with.
“ yeah? What you gonna do? Tell me “ talking was good. She’d taught you that. The times she’d had to patch you up, making you talk to keep your mind off of the pain.
“ bash his- shit. Bash his fuckin skull in “
“ mhm and what else? “ you asked, wiping at the blood that continued to trickle down her stomach “ details. I want details “ you pushed, keeping her talking. Keeping her distracted. Making her brain tick over with how she planned to beat the living shit out of Robert, not about how painful a blunt needle and sewing thread felt dragging though her skin.
“ maybe I should take some tips from you. You really fucked that asshole up, huh? “
“ well I learned from the best “ she gave a short laugh, eyes still locked on your face.
“ fucking Robert “
“ mhm fuckin Robert “ you said as you made the final stitch. Her eyes were still on you as you doused the wound in alcohol, in some hope it would kill off at least some of the shit that might cause an infection “ there you go “
She pushed her self up onto her elbows with a groan, looking down at your handy work
“ pretty as a fuckin picture “
“ I know. Should’a been a nurse “ you moved to clear away all the shit you’d been using, but she grabbed at your wrist.
“ thank you “
“ of course “ she pulled you down and you pressed a kiss to her lips lightly, her split lip giving it the metallic taste of blood.

FOUR
You woke up in a cold sweat, thrashing around as the covers clung to your arms and legs in a way that felt too constricting. The horrors of whatever had been tormenting you in your sleep still assaulting you, even with your eyes open.
You couldn’t even fully comprehend what your brain was showing you, just that you knew it was terrifying. Odd faces of your family, of people you had killed.
“ baby. Baby! Hey! Calm down you’re okay! it’s me! It’s me. I’ve got you “ as your eyes began to focus on your surroundings, your eyes clearing of the dark fog of the nightmare that had attacked your peaceful sleep, you focussed on the strong hands gripping at your arms. The calm voice filtering through your own screams, hitting your ears.
You reached out in the dark for her, squeezing her tightly when she pulled you into her arms.
“ Tess “ you sobbed, praying it was her that had you trapped in her arms. Of course it was. It was always her, always the one to pull you back to reality when the nightmares got to you.
“ that’s right. It’s me, you’re alright. Just a dream, I got you. It’s just a dream all a dream baby girl “ she murmured softly into your hair, stroking her hands over your back and gently shushing you.
You hated when all the shit you had done came back to haunt you. It made you feel weak. Pathetic.
Your own mind was punishing you. Attacking you from the inside out for being a shitty person. It never seemed to affect Tess. She had always been stronger than you, always the one doing the comforting.
“ I’m sorry I- I didn’t mean to wake you I’m sorry- “
“ don’t be sorry. It’s okay “ you pressed your face against her neck, breathing in her scent in some attempt to ground yourself again “ baby “ she gently nudged your face up to look at her, hands cupping your cheeks gently “ you’re home, you’re safe. I’m right here “
She brushed her thumbs over your tears, her tired eyes scanning your face. She had bags under her eyes, more scars littering her skin in the years since you’d first met her. But those eyes were still the same. No matter how much shit you both did, she still looked at you the same.
“ you should go back to sleep “ you shook your head. Not wanting to go back to the fucking horrors that were waiting for you the second you closed your eyes
“ cant. Cant do that shit again “ she sighed but nodded and sat back against the headboard, pulling you with her.
“ alright. Then we stay awake “ her voice was soft, no sarcasm. No joking. She had to be up early for work, yet she would sacrifice her sleep to stay awake all night with you “ we can talk. Or you can lose at cards to me. Whatever you want, we’ll do it “ you looked up at her, her face illuminated by the moonlight seeping through the gap in the curtains.
“ I love you “ you whispered, overcome with emotion as you looked at her. You didn’t say it to each other often. In fact she had let it slip maybe three times over the time you’d been together. She was uncomfortable with it. Never wanting to confront and confirm that she had someone she loved. That she had a weakness. That she had somebody to lose.
She pressed a soft kiss to your forehead and then your lips, telling you without saying it.
“ I know baby. I know “

FIVE
If someone had told you that in the middle of the apocalypse you’d be out sunbathing, eating fresh fruit like you were on some kind of vacation. You’d have laughed in their faces. Yet there you were. The backyard of the house next door to Bill and Franks. They’d fixed it up when your visits there grew more regular a few years back. Frankly Bill didn’t seem to pleased by it. Some bullshit ‘ resource management’ thing. But Frank had said he’d loved the project.
And it meant you got the only slice of true… normality the world had to offer you. You could play pretend. Act like the world was fine. That you and Tess were living in that little town, doing normal human things. Dinner parties with your neighbours, sunbathing in the garden and picnics. It made the return to Boston all that much harder each time, a shocking return to reality. One that was grey and smoky and filled with FEDRA assholes looking for any excuse to shoot. But in the moment, you lived in your make believe world. Forgetting you even had to go back there.
You could lie in the grass with Tess. And pretend.
“ I forgot what real strawberries tasted like “ you sighed, savouring every tiny bite of the fruit Frank had brought round for you both “ this is better than sex “
“ that’s fuckin rude “ you smiled up at her from where your head rested in her lap, her hair tied up and shiny with the nice shampoos Bill had stocked. She always looked brighter in Lincoln. Not just because the sun was shining and there wasn’t that ever looming greyness. She glanced down at you and your final tiny bites of strawberry “ why are you eating it so slowly? “
“ I’m savouring it “ she rolled her eyes but a smile was pulling at her lips. She started running a hand through your hair, making you sigh as the sun made your body feel sleepy and warm. Safe.
You wondered if it was what life would’ve been like if the world hadn’t exploded. Of course you knew it wouldn’t in a way. You had lived miles away from Michigan, you probably would never have met. She’d probably still be married, maybe even had another kid as well as her son. Grown old and grey with a bunch of grandkids and died safe and warm in her bed.
You shocked yourself a little at the jealousy that bubbled up in your chest at the thought. You didn’t want to think about her with someone else. She was yours. You were hers. That was it.
You would have met. You would have ended up how you wanted. A cosy house and friendly neighbours. Dinner parties. Picnics. Dates. Safe and warm in your bed.
“ is this technically a date? “ you suddenly asked, opening your eyes again as you got caught up in your daydreaming. Tess shrugged, her eyes closed as she let the sun warm her face. She had a thing for fresh air, always talking about how stuffy the city air was. How she loved being outside of the walls where the air was cleaner.
“ you want it to be a date? “ you shrugged, her voice sounding slightly teasing.
“ forget it “
“ oh come on I’m sorry. I’m sorry. It can be a date “ she looked down at you, stroking her hand over your hair.
“ we’ve been together for all these years and never had a date “
“ there’s not exactly many options in the QZ is there “ you sighed and she gave you a look riddled with sympathy “ every time we visit you get like this “ she said softly “ you… drift “ you sat up, pulling your knees to your chest and resting your chin on your hands.
“ because I feel normal here “ you confessed “ I can pretend. Pretend we’re normal “ it felt silly to say out loud and you waited for her to laugh at you or make a joke. But she didn’t. She just gave a gentle nod “ I don’t have to worry about getting fucking jumped on my way home because someone wants our cards, or selling pills to officers that could have us hung up the gallows if they felt like it. I can forget that we’re shitty people for a bit “
Tess was quiet as you spoke, letting your words hang between you. You wondered if it would stem into one of her bad moods. She liked the position you had back in Boston. She liked the power. The control. But you were growing tired of it. And you didn’t know how much longer you could keep it up. Not when you got a taste of the opposite anytime you visited Bill and Franks.
“ then let’s pretend “ she said after a few moments, standing up and holding out her hand to you “ come on “ you took her hand and she pulled you into her arms, guiding yours around her neck before looping her own around your waist “ I worry too “ she confessed
“ sure “
“ I do. I worry all the time. About you. There is nothing and no one else in this world that I care about as much as you. You think I like all that shit we do? I do it because it means we have food. And safety. You have food and safety “
“ you love that shit don’t play with me Tess “ she sighed and shrugged
“ I like control. But if I had to give that up to keep you safe? I’d do it in a fuckin heartbeat “ she closed her eyes for a moment and took a breath “ you know. When Joel is done with the battery thing… the Tommy thing. We could lay low for a while “ you quirked an eyebrow at that
“ you? Lay low? Yeah I’ll believe that when I fuckin see it “
“ I’m serious. Im getting too old for that bullshit “ the look in her eyes seemed genuine. She was serious.
“ really? “
“ maybe we could… even stay here. For a while. I could convince them to let us stay. Bill might like having some extra help for Frank “ you pondered on it, leaving the shitty zone behind. Your illegal runs. Your drug running. Live out the rest of your days in the peace and quiet of Lincoln “ we do this final run with Joel. I’m finalising the trade with Robert for a battery. Joel is sorting the truck. We get him to Tommy in one piece and then… we come back here. Yeah? “
Your face lit up and you nodded, a small laugh leaving your mouth.
“ I’d. I’d like that “ Tess smiled too, nudging her fingers under your chin and pulling you in to kiss her.
“ hmm you taste like strawberry “

+ ONE
Tess was acting weird. Erratic. It wasn’t like her. You stood hopelessly with Joel as she charged around the room, chucking shit out of boxes and checking the pockets of the dead firefly’s on the floor. Searching for something. Anything.
“ Tess. What’re you doing? “ Joel spoke before you could. You couldn’t move from where you were stood, an awful biting feeling in your chest as you watched her. Something was wrong. Something was wrong. This wasn’t your Tess. Tess wasn’t erratic and wild. She was organised. Concise. She knew what she was doing at all times and had full control of the situation.
“ I mean there’s gotta be a map or something right? “ Joel looked over at you, eyebrows raised in some silent request for you to see what the fuck was going on with her. But you still couldn’t move “ Ellie. Did Marlene say where this hospital was? Did she say where she was taking you? “
“ no I- just some place west “
“ west. Fuckin west “ she went back to ferreting through their pockets, chucking useless shit like a pen and a pair of glasses across the room.
“ Tess we’re done here. Let’s just go home and- “
“ that’s not my fuckin home “ she wouldn’t look at you. Even though your eyes were burning into her, she avoided your gaze. Something was wrong “ our luck had to run out sooner or later “ she said, standing up from where she’d been searching one of the bodies.
Luck.
Luck?
“ holy shit. She’s infected “ Ellie’s voice broke the small silence that had fallen over the group, her tone sounding pained as she said the words you had been refusing to even think about.
The look on her face was enough of an answer for you. And it was the thing that finally made you move. You crossed the distance between you in purposeful strides, stopping in front of her
“ show me “
“ look I- “
“ show. Me “ you watched her jaw clench as she grabbed the collar of her shirt and pulled it down to reveal exactly what was wrong with her.
A set of teeth marks surrounded by angry, red skin. Blood was oozing out of the wound, a colour too dark to be normal. But the worst part? You could see the tendrils of the fungus under her skin, raised in her veins as they crawled closer and closer to her brain. The bite was on her shoulder and the fungus was already reaching up the side of her neck. How fast did it move? How long had it been since you’d ran into the clickers? 10 minutes ago? If that?
They had been the only run in youd had. It had been the only possible place she could’ve gotten bitten. In 10 minutes it was already spreading that far?
Your mind rushed back to the museum. The clickers that had rushed you, separating you both from Joel and Ellie. The way she had pushed you out of the way of one of them. But she had killed it. How could it possibly have…
“ oops, right? “ she said quietly, eyes glassy with tears that she seemed to be desperately attempting to hold in. Your brain refused to process the information. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go.
It was Tess. Strong and brave and smart Tess. Tess that killed infected like it was nothing. That had lasted 20 fucking years and never been bitten. Tess that was taking you to Lincoln to live out the rest of your days in safety.
“ Tess- “ she pushed past you and headed for Ellie before you could say anything else, her mind clearly preoccupied.
“ bandage off. Show me your arm “ you watched her grab Ellie’s arm, ignoring your presence now and talking to Joel. Her mouth was moving but your ears were ringing too loud, not focussing on what she was saying. Watching as her hand started shaking, twitching. It was attacking her nervous system already.
How long would it be until it was in her brain? Controlling and taking over the mind of the woman you loved. Claiming her body as it’s own, her thoughts, her feelings, turning her into an empty shell of a human. A puppet.
Your fingers prickled with the lack of air entering your lungs, anxiety overwhelming you, your chest tight and head light. The sudden realisation of what was happening crashing down on you, suffocating you with a heavy weight on your chest that made it feel as though your lungs were collapsing.
“ oh shit you’re not infected too are you? You don’t look right man “ both Tess and Joel turned to you as Ellie spoke, her voice sounding echoed and far off.
“ I think I’m having a heart- a heart attack “ you gasped, shaking your head and grabbing at your chest. She appeared in front of you, hands reaching out to you before pulling them away again.
“ you’re not having a heart attack “ Joel was talking again, but you couldn’t hear him. Your eyes were locked on hers, the tears she’d been holding back silently rolling over her cheeks. She reached out for you again and actually let herself touch you this time. Her hands were trembling as she placed them on your arms. Was it the infection? Or was she scared? Or was it both?
“ Tess- “
“ shhh let me talk I don’t have a lot of time “ your eyes fell down to the bite mark peaking over the collar of her shirt and she squeezed your arms lightly “ hey. Up here. Look at me not that “ you dragged your eyes back up to her face. Even if it was just so you could burn it into the backs of your eyelids, every single line and scar and freckle that it held “ Joel’s gonna get you and the kid to Bill and Franks- “
“ I’m not- “
“ shut. The fuck up. You get to Bill and Franks they’ll know what to do with the kid. And hey. They love you, they’ll let you stay there with them even if I’m not there- “
“ I’m not going to fuckin Bill and and Franks without you “
“ yes you are. Get the kid there. Bill and Frank they’ll look after you. They owe me “ before you could protest again you startled as one of the body’s on the other side of the room suddenly moved, screeching before Joel shot it in the head.
There was a commotion somewhere outside, drawing Joel over the door of the building. You looked down at the man he’d just shot, the moss and earth beneath his fingers moving. You’d heard that the fungus could grow underground, knew it could connect colonies of infected miles apart. Is that what it was? Drawing a whole heard of infected in your direction?
“ how many? “ Tess asked
“ all of em “ she gave a small nod, hastily wiping away her tears and leaving you again. You watched her as she started pushing barrels over, tossing boxes of grenades and ammo onto the floor.
“ what are you doing? “
“ making sure they won’t follow you “ your ears were ringing again, head aching as the fumes from the barrels drifted into your nose.
Your hands slipped into your hair, pulling at it in a way that surely made you looked mad. But you needed to feel your scalp prickle with pain, something to wake you up from the fucking nightmare you were living through.
You watched her talking to Joel again, shaking your head as you tried to wake yourself up. Waiting to feel her hands pull you into her arms and tell you it was okay. It was all a dream and you were safe.
But it didn’t come. You were awake. You were living the nightmare.
You heart was aching in your chest. You felt as though you could feel each and every heartstring snapping. You had often wondered how after so many of millions of years that human beings had walked the earth, living and adapting to their surroundings, they had not evolved enough to not feel the splintering pain of heartbreak. How had humans evolved so thoroughly, so much that they could adapt to live even after the world had gone to shit. Trained themselves to use guns and knifes to protect themselves yet left their hearts so delicate, so vulnerable that something as fickle as love could cause such a gut wrenching pain.
You’d much rather take a knife to the gut or a bullet to the head. You were certain it would hurt less.
She reappeared in front of you a few moments later. Her hands cupped your face and you wrapped your fingers tightly around her wrists.
“ I love you. I’m sorry I never told you as much I should’ve “ she was saying goodbye
“ I’m not fuckin going anywhere Tess you can stop with bullshit goodbyes”
“ you’re gonna get out of here. And go to Bill and Frank. And you’re gonna grow old as them fuckers, you’re gonna be safe. And eat strawberries. And paint with Frank and lay in the sun. You’re gonna live. The way that you’ve always wanted to “ she didn’t get it. Didn’t understand. You wanted those thins. But only if she was there with you. Not alone “ they’ll look after you “
“ you look after me “ she closed her eyes, shaking her head as tears kept flowing down both of your faces.
“ I can’t anymore “ she whispered.
The noise outside was growing louder, hundreds of infected barely a minute away.
“ I’m staying here. With you “ she shook her head again and pressed her forehead to yours for a second.
“ I’m sorry “ your brow furrowed “ Joel “ you realised what was happening a second too late. Joel’s arm wrapped tightly around your waist, lifting you from your feet
“ let me fuckin go! Put me down! Joel! “ you thrashed and kicked and punched but Joel was stronger than you, no reaction to your squirming as he dragged Ellie along with his other hand. Tears streamed down your face as you craned your neck to try and see her, every ounce of energy you had being used to try and break free of Joel’s tight grip “ Tess! Joel please! Please we can’t leave her. We can’t! Joel! “
It wasn’t until you were outside that you managed to break free.
Only because the building exploding behind you sent the three of you flying, landing face down in the grass. You rolled over, eyes wide as you took in the site before you. Flames licked out of the windows, engulfing the building and all of the infected inside.
And Tess.
Some part of you still refused to accept it, making you scramble to your feet without your full consent or knowledge. Stumbling back towards the building only to have Joel’s arms wrap tightly around you again.
“ it’s over. It’s over “
“ no! No! “ Joel’s arm stayed tightly around you as you fell to your knees, sobs wracking your body.
Because you had no one left.
Tess was gone. And you were on your own.

sypnosis: a reminiscence of a love once cherished
features: bachira, rin, reo, sae, isagi, nagi
a/n: i need to stop playing hsr its consuming almost all hours of my life n e ways here's bllk boys w some lyrics from all to well (10 mins version)(taylor's version) 😧 also ☝ angst is not my forte i apologize if the angst parts seemed off i tried my best 😞 HAHAHAHAHA
Tumblr media
“you almost ran the red 'cause you were lookin' over at me”
bachira meguru was an eccentric lover. he likes to have fun and takes you on dates you’d never even expect. one time, during your second date, he took you out to go bungee jumping. you were frozen on the platform for 30 minutes while he was down there, cheering you on with a stupid smile on his face and his phone recording you.
right now, you guys are on the way home after a day at a cat cafe. they were really cute but their fur all over you was not cute at all. you look out the window, admiring the view as the car sped through the road. you hold back a laugh as you pass by a squirrel falling down a tree with its acorn stuck in the branch. you turn to tell bachira when you notice he’s already looking at you.
“eyes on the road!”
“i got my eye on you.” and to push it further, he points two fingers in your direction. sighing lighty, you shove his face to turn to the road. “you can eye me later if we don’t die.”
bachira whips his head to look at you accusingly. “excuse me?! my driving skills are maxed out, you know. and besides, who’s the one with the license between us, huh? that’s right. me. bachira megu–” “yeah, yeah. shut up.” you try to shush him however that seemed to only seethe him more. more screams of fury and annoyance comes from bachira. you were only seconds away from tuning him out when you saw the traffic light glow red. immediately, you urged bachira to step on the brakes. with the panic in your voice, he abides at once.
now at a stop sign, deep breaths coming from the two of you fill the vehicle. giggles and laughter following after. “oh my god, stop laughing, meguru.” he halts his laughter. playfully gesturing a zipper over his lips yet the obvious grin on his face gives it away.
“can we both agree to always keep an eye on the road now?”
“yes, ma’am… got my other eye on you tho.”
“bachira.”
Tumblr media
“you taught me 'bout your past, thinking your future was me”
getting into a relationship wasn’t in itoshi rin’s bucket list. or any list really. never did he think that he’ll be here at 3am in the morning, on his bed, with you, and he’s telling you all about him. from the very first time he held a soccer ball to the day sae left for spain. he confided in you, hiding no side of his self and showing you all and even letting you see through him completely.
“so, this is it?” the air was cold. breaking up on a december night? it almost makes him laugh. he’d fight for it but.. what was the point? this is the ending of a lover story. your love story. if he tries to change the ending, who knows what could happen next? you stay with him out of pity? or you get tired and all goes in a circle once more. he stays silent. not uttering one word and maybe that set you off because you dragged a hand down your face. he observes you for the first time in weeks. you look really tired and if letting this end would make you happy then so be it.
he walks past you and that leaves you baffled. so he’s just leaving, you think to yourself. chest aching and hands itching to reach out, but you don’t. because if he’s walking away without a word, what are the chances he’ll hear you out?
“oh god, i never thought it could end up like this.” rin hears you whisper to yourself as he grabs his coat and makes his way to the door. he bites on his lips, urging the tears brimming his eye to not fall. not now. as he strolls through the park, he mutters to himself. “neither did i.” but you weren’t there to hear him. only the moon knows.
Tumblr media
“we're dancing 'round the kitchen in the refrigerator light”
loving mikage reo was unexpected and something you’re grateful for. he’s the best boyfriend one could ever ask for. he fell in love with you at first sight when you took his coffee order at the cafe down the block. the continues to visit the coffee shop with a bouquet of flowers dedicated for you everyday until you give him your number.
cravings at midnight are common. you had them a lot so sneaking out of reo’s arms became something you’re skilled at. tiptoeing towards the fridge, you rummage through every shelf to find something to eat. a yelp escapes you as you felt cold hands slid under your shirt. reo’s laughter breaks your shock, turning to hit him in the chest. that just seems to make him laugh more.
“hi, sweetheart. what are you doing?” he smiles like he did nothing wrong. you scowl at him before turning to rummage through the fridge once again. “i’m hungry. i wanna eat.”
“oh? should we just order then?” reo asks you, pulling out his phone and opening a delivery app.  he was about to click on an item until your hand blocks his phone while you stare him down with a glare. “reo, your fridge is full to the brim. baa-ya even had to push things in the pantry ‘cause there’s no more space!”
“come on, use your inside voice inside the house.” like the smooth man he is, he cuddles you in his arms, swaying the both of you side by side. only to stop when you pinch his side. “ow! what was that for?”
“don’t dance with me when the fridge door is open!”
“but it’s romantic!”
“an overpriced electricity bill isn’t!”
“you’re not even the one paying the bills–ow!”

Of Fire and Ice - chapter 2
Tumblr media
Melissa Schemmenti X reader X Larissa Weemes
Summary: The dinner and questioning
Words: 2367
Notes: so this is going better than I thought I'm kinda living for it!  Thank you all for the love and support its really making me want to just get this out as fast as I can!!
Wanings: slight talk of discrimination.
----
3:45 the last kiddo from your class finally leaves you take that as a sign to get the heck out of there you don’t want to be cornered before the dinner. You gather your belongings and rush out of the school to your vehicle leaving to go pick up some ingredients for dinner.
You can feel them watching you pull out of the parking lot you see Melissa and Barbara standing on the steps to the school. You don’t acknowledge them.
Dinner tonight was supposed to just be leftovers from this weekend but now you actually have to put in effort since people will be coming over. It was lunch when you decided on penne arrabbiata. Your unintentional need to impress Melissa coming to head. So, you go out and buy some fresh parmesan, the rest you have at home, always going to the famers market on Saturdays. You have since picked up some new wines for your collection, so you won't need to get any more and for dessert well you did make some mini cheesecakes yesterday so those will have to do.
Its 5:00 by the time you get home you immediately set to work on getting yourself ready just because you see these people every day doesn’t mean you don’t want to look nice when they come to your house.
6:30 you have finished touching up your make up and have changed into something comfortable letting your hair out of its messy bun and fixing the loose curls you had this morning. “meh good enough” you say to your reflection.
6:35 you are starting on dinner it only takes about 20 minuets to finish the meal. When the bell rings you flick your wrist and suddenly the dining room table is set. You open the door and see all your friends waiting. “hey, come on in everything is ready” you motion with your hand to let them come in.
“mmmh smells good hun what did you make? I can smell the fresh basil from here.” Melissa looks at you, she looks beautiful, she has changed into comfortable clothes herself and it should be illegal to look that good. You swallow your throat suddenly dry. “oh um penne arrabbiata.” she smirks at you oh god why does she do that. “a woman after my own heart I can’t wait to try it.” she winks at you walking into the house with the others.
You close the door heading to the dining room. “come on in I don’t bite. Well unless you want me too” you joke looking back at them. “Guys I'm kidding” They all sit down at the table and you pull out 3 bottles of nice wine
This peaks Barbaras interest as she hands you, her glass. You pour everyone some wine and serve the food. You hear the collective sigh as everyone takes a bite, Melissas hand lands on your free one as she nods in approval. Your brain short circuits as you take a big gulp of your wine.
“so, how do you want to go about the questions” Jacob askes from his place at the table besides Janine. You let out a sigh and lean back against your chair. “Why don’t y’all take turns, we can start with Melissa and work our way around the table. Sound good?” they all nod as you turn your way to Melissa. “Okay beautiful we will start with you.” you don’t know where the bout of confidence came from, but her smile made it worth it.
“So what kind of outcast are you? We know there are many different kinds so?” wow starting strong “I'm a witch I come from a long line. Don’t worry, the stories make us seem worse than we really are. She nods taking in your answer.
Barbara takes her turn next “So you can do magic like the movies?” “Well yes kinda but it’s a bit more than that its connected to emotions yes but with practice I can use it for most things.
“So, this school you went to it’s like a boarding school?” Gregory asks. “Yes, it’s been around since 1791.” you respond.
“Is it only for outcast or can anyone go?” Janine askes “we have a few normies every so often, but they are rare and far between it is open to anyone but not many people feel comfortable with us.”
Jacob looks at you now “what is the curriculum like?” “well we have the normal stuff but then some more specialized stuff too.” you respond
“Who is this lady?” Ava holds out her phone to show the official nevermore page. Showing you a picture of Larissa. Your breath hitch's she is just a beautiful as you remember her. Those blue eyes piercing your soul all over again. You swallow hard before answering. “That is Larissa Weems the headmistress of Nevermore Acadamy”
Melissa noticed the change in you immediately. “Who was she to you?” “My ex-girlfriend” you let out a sigh and look at her making eye contact calmed you immediately.
Barbara takes her next turn “is that why you were upset this morning? Is she going to be there?” you simply nod your head in response.
Melissa skips the others to ask her next question “when was the last time you saw her? And how long did you date?” You look to her confused as you can hear her voice waver. You grab Ava’s phone “we dated for 4 years, and I haven’t seen her in about 6. It looks like time has been good to her” you turn the phone to her “oh she is beautiful” you can hear the emotion in her voice, but you can't place it. “I was going to propose to her but then things started getting hard and I didn’t fight for her.” you shrug.
Gregory raises his hand. “Yes?” you respond. “Can I go now Melissa Skipped me” you nod to him “cool so like you can do magic can you show us some?”
You grin flicking your wrist and suddenly the table is cleared, and desert is on the table in front of them. You hear a collective gasp and Jacob claps. “Oh, that would come in handy.” Barbara responds.
You nod “I use it more than I care to admit” you respond sheepishly thinking back on all the times you have used it in secret at school. The rest of the night goes on like this them asking you responding.
——
“Well, I do believe we all have to teach tomorrow. “ Barbara says standing “I'm going to take my leave thank you for an amazing dinner and enlightening evening.” the others nod and stand walking with her to the door. All leaving except Melissa who stayed on the couch as you walked them out.
“You, okay?” you ask her from the doorway. She looks up at you and nods clearly there is something on her mind. You take her hand in yours and sit across from her. “Mel?”
“What if I go with you?” she asked now you are confused. “What?” you respond not getting what she is referring to.
“What if I went as your date to your reunion? I could be your fake girlfriend and you can show her that you are better now.”
“I-I um Mel I can’t ask that of you it's a lot.” you are looking into her eyes now. “But you aren't askin I'm offering... so what do you say?”
“lets do it” you nod grinning.
10:45 Mel has already gone home, and you are filling out your RSVP and plus one paperwork. So maybe today wasn’t the worst day but now you have a whole other thing to worry about but till then that can be a problem for future you.

Blind Faith
Chapter 3: Temperance
Pairing: Matt Murdock x Reader
Chapter Summary: You get private self-defense lessons from the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, who you call Mike now.
A/N: The POV switches a bit frequently in this chapter, between Matt and the reader. I tried to make it as clear as possible. Basically, if you see Matt's name when he's with the reader, it's from his POV. But if it's just described as "he" then it's the Reader's POV. Thanks to all for the kudos you've left on this so far <3 this fic is in its beginning stages but I am really excited to see it through. Enjoy! P.S. This entire series takes place after Season 3 of Daredevil, but Matt kept the black suit.
Chapter 2 here

Hell’s Kitchen
8:00 AM
You hated mornings.
You specifically hated mornings when you were hungover. Your phone alarm woke you up obnoxiously. Groaning, you slammed your finger on the button to shut it off, worried it might wake your friends.
The bright 8 AM sky of Hell’s Kitchen shone directly in your face. No amount of blankets covering your eyes could keep the darkness inside, and you forced yourself to wake up knowing your sleep was well over. You stretched in bed and reached for your phone again on your bedside table.
You scrolled through your notifications.
The Daily Bulletin posted a new article about new restaurants coming to Hell’s Kitchen this summer. You scrolled through mindlessly as you tried to stay awake. You had a few emails from professors, wishing you a happy graduation and good luck to prospective law students. You remembered your job searching app and that you had one new message from one of the firms you applied to.
Nelson and Murdock: 1 view, 1 new message.
You clicked open the message:
Hi __,
Thank you so much for applying to be our new legal assistant. Of all the applications we received, your resume stood out the most to us at Nelson & Murdock. We’d love to have you come in for an interview next week. Does Thursday at 4:00 PM work? We look forward to seeing you.
Sincerely,
Karen Page
Office Manager at Nelson & Murdock
You couldn’t help but smile at Ms. Page’s message. Finally! I get to have some experience working in the legal field before applying for Columbia Law.
You quickly typed out your message:
Dear Ms. Page,
Thank you so much for reaching out! Of course, I would love to come in for an interview. Thursday at 4:00 PM is perfect. Thanks so much for your consideration.
Regards,
___
You added the interview to your calendar and immediately texted your friends’ group chat the exciting news.
Hell’s Kitchen
8:30 PM
You wanted to go out with your friends, but you had other plans for tonight.
“I can’t believe __ is skipping out on tonight!” Hannah exclaimed as she was getting ready in the bathroom. You looked up from the LSAT book in your lap from the couch and mustered up the most convincing shrug.
“If I want to be a successful lawyer, I’ve got to get into law school first. Columbia, no less. That means studying for this Godforsaken test,” you held up the textbook in your hand and clumsily dropped it in your lap.
“Oh, you’ve got the whole summer to study,” Emily pried, dabbing her lipstick on.
“Better start now, then,” you retorted. The truth was, you were absolutely not going to get any studying done tonight. But it was unlike you to decline a night out with your friends, so you used the LSAT as your excuse. You had other plans… of course, if your savior decided to actually show. Who knows? Maybe vigilantes also played games like every guy you’ve ever met at NYU.
“Well, we’ll miss you,” Bella said as she walked out of her room. You smiled at her.
“The bright side is if you guys need me to pick you up, I’ll be sober to do so!” You tried to reason with them.
“True, though we may crash at Ben’s place. Depends how the night goes,” Hannah explained. You nodded, thinking that might be preferable, but you didn’t say so.
You waited patiently, hiding behind your textbook for your friends to leave for the night. Luckily, they decided to get dinner before going out. You would’ve been jealous had you actually needed to study, but the thought of seeing your savior was too exciting to be jealous about anything else.
As soon as they locked the door, you hopped up from the couch and changed out of your pajamas and into a relaxing outfit of leggings, a sports bra, and a hoodie.
It was 9:30—only thirty minutes until your secret meeting with the man in the mask on the rooftop of your apartment building.
Office of Nelson & Murdock
Earlier that day
“Okay, who’s ready to hit up Josie’s tonight?! Karen, Matt?” Foggy Nelson cheered as he slammed his hands on the conference table. Karen Page laughed in her seat as she leaned back in her chair. Her strawberry blonde hair was pushed to one side of her neck.
Matt Murdock suppressed a smile and paused the case file he was just listening to on his Orbit reader.
“I might be inclined,” Karen thought, leaning forward on her desk. “It would be nice to have a drink after coming in to work on a Saturday…”
“Oooh, yeah,” Foggy squinted his face, “sorry about that. I mean, it’s a good thing we’re getting a lot of clients but at the same time, we don’t have enough people here to talk to all of them,” Foggy explained. And then, he remembered something. “Hey, did that applicant ever reply to your message?”
“Oh!” Karen pointed a finger, “Let me check. Ahh, okay! Yes, wow, she did. Uhh, so she’ll be coming in for an interview next Thursday. I just calendared it.”
“Yes!” Foggy put his hands into fists. “Karen, I trust your judgment, unless you want Matt or I to sit in on the interview.”
“Either works. Whoever’s available, I guess,” Karen nodded.
“Cool. So, Josie’s tonight? Matt?”
Matt shook his head.
“I’ve got plans,” he simply said, a smirk on his face. Foggy rolled his eyes.
“Come on, man,” Foggy begged, “you can’t take one night off?”
“I—I can’t,” Matt answered, “I promise next time I’ll join you guys. But not tonight.”
Karen sighed. Matt knew neither of them was pleased with his nighttime activities as they called it, but they’d be happy to know that wasn’t entirely what he was up to tonight—then again, he’s not sure they’d be happy to hear what else he had planned. That was a secret he wouldn’t tell.
“Just let us know if you’ll need us, okay?” Karen asked. Matt nodded.
“Of course,” he said.
“Alright well, guess we’ll hit up Marci to join us,” Foggy suggested.
“Matt, we trust you’ll be fine.”
“I’ll be fine,” he reassured them.
“Well then, I’m going to get a head start on Josie’s martinis. Karen, let’s get outta here.”
Hell’s Kitchen
10:00 PM
You stood by the edge of the rooftop, looking down at the people who walked the streets. You never came up here at all. Sometimes, you and your friends would take pictures up here, but that was it. Being up here alone felt different—it felt like a hideaway. There you were, watching as stores began to close, and bars began to open up. You could see the lights from Times Square in the distance. You shivered when a cool breeze passed.
And then you were startled by something—a thud, somewhere around the back of the rooftop access. You turned around in defense mode, waiting to confirm the identity of what the noise was.
Then, he appeared. Out of the black, into the soft light that reflected from midtown. His black shirt hugged him so tightly, you could see the outline of his muscles on his chest, his abs… his arms. His face was of course covered by the mask, but you saw his lips and the light stubble he had. His hands were wrapped in rope, like a boxer's. He wore black pants and boots to match.
“I wasn’t sure if you would come,” you decided to speak first as you walked toward him. You stopped after a few feet. The man in the mask walked toward the edge of the roof and sat on the edge, facing you.
“I keep my promises,” he replied. “It’s the Catholicism.”
You raised your eyebrows in surprise, “you’re Catholic? And you act outside of the law? Seems like a subjective way of justifying things.”
“I don’t think about it too much,” he responded with a shrug. You eyed him suspiciously.
“So, before we begin,” you cleared your throat to keep the mood light, but truthfully he was making you nervous, for some reason. He had a smirk on his face you wanted to wipe off. “Why did you agree to come here and teach me how to defend myself?”
He was quiet for a few moments.
“You had a convincing argument, from what I remember,” he said.
“That can’t be enough to come out of your way and onto the rooftop of my apartment. Surely, you have more important things to do. So, why did you come? And don’t say it’s because of religion, because that’s bullshit.”
“Maybe I wanted to,” he returned. Your heart pounded when he said this. You were thankful it was dark out, or else he might’ve seen your blush. “And you know, it’s important you know how to defend yourself.”
“Hmm,” was all you said. You pressed your lips together. “Do you give all the girls you’ve saved before private self-defense lessons?”
He laughed. You liked how his laugh sounded.
“You’re my first student,” he said in a low voice.
“So, what should I call you? In my head, I’ve been calling you my savior.”
He smiled, then he got a bit serious.
“Call me Mike,” Mike said.
“Well then, Mike,” you walked closer to him so you were no more than a foot away. You crossed your arms and tilted your head. “I’m a quick learner.”
Mike pushed himself off from where he leaned, so the space between you shrunk even more.
“I don’t doubt that.”
~~~
“Show me what you’d do if someone were to approach you in front of you,” Mike ordered, placing his hands on his hips. You squinted your eyes at him, thinking.
“I’d try to do this,” you began as Mike pretended to “attack” you. You took your arms and tried to hit him away, but he grabbed you by your forearms and steadied you from losing your balance.
“That’s how they can get a hold on you, as I do now,” Mike explained, with a sly grin on his face. “Instead, you want to make sure you move both your arms to one side and do a swiping motion, so they can’t grab you. Try again.”
He got back into position as you did. You braced yourself as he came to you, holding up his arms. You did exactly what he said before, and moved your arms in a swiping motion, gently hitting his arms away.
“Don’t be afraid to hurt me when we do this. I want you to fully grasp how you’d handle yourself, God forbid, you ever had to,” Mike stated. “One more time.”
You repeated your stance as before, and this time, you aggressively swiped his arms away, feeling your forearm clash against his.
“Good girl,” he smiled in satisfaction. Your heart was pounding again in your chest. You weren’t sure if it was from his comment, or that self-defense training was like a workout. You huffed as you caught your breath.
“And what if they anticipate that? What next?” You asked, genuinely curious. Mike thought for a moment before answering.
“Then you have to use your legs,” he replied. “Let’s try that. Give me your arms,” he held up his hands. You raised your arms, and like slow motion, he wrapped his fingers around you, pulling you closer to him. You gasped at the contact. The tip of your nose barely touched his.
“Listen carefully,” he said in a low voice. “I’ve got your arms. You’re going to want to slip from under, using your whole weight.”
You nodded your head, understanding him. His grip on your arms tightened. You took a deep breath and then plunged, slipping out of his grasp.
“Now stop!” He halted. “Raise your right leg and try to kick my shoulder.”
“I don’t know if I can stretch that much,” you stressed.
“You can. This is life or death. Just try it,” he urged you.
You raised and kicked your right leg, hitting his shoulder and using the weight to push him away. He nodded and clapped his hands.
“Exactly that,” Mike smiled.
“I need a water,” you uttered, “I don’t know how you do this every night. Do you need a water?”
“I could use a water,” Mike answered.
“Okay, I’ll be right back.”
Trotting down the rooftop access stairs, you hurried for two water bottles from the fridge. You glanced at the clock—11:30 PM. Sheesh. Time flies when you’re learning self-defense.
Upon entering the roof again, you were confused to not find Mike where you left him. You scanned the roof, looking for him. Did he leave?
Suddenly, a dark figure came charging at you. You dropped the water bottles and immediately went into defense mode, realizing it was Mike. You thought fast and swiped his arms immediately, swaying him to the side.
“That was a test,” Mike said out of breath.
“Jesus!” You exclaimed, “You scared me!”
“That’s how fast an attacker will be. Out of nowhere, and just like that,” Mike explained.
You shook your head, picking up the water bottles from where you dropped them. You handed one to Mike.
“Let’s take a break, shall we?”
~~~
Matt contemplated coming tonight.
There was something wrong about why he chose to come to you, to fulfill his promise. When he started his activities, he told himself he’d never get attached to the people he saved—never get emotionally involved. He would strictly leave it to business: stop the criminals, and save the innocent person. But for some reason, with you, he couldn’t let go.
The second time he saved you was a complete accident…fate, as you had said. He was in a completely different part of town, and you so happened to be in the same area. He remembers hearing your voice, dignified, yelling at that punk kid to leave that innocent girl alone. He recognized your voice immediately. Matt’s hearing was so sensitive, even after hearing someone’s voice once, he could pick it out in an entire crowd. He liked that you talked to him; that you weren’t afraid of him in his suit.
And still, he wasn’t sure if coming tonight was a good idea. Because he knows he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from coming again.
And now, here was, on your rooftop, sharing a bottle of water with you. He sat against the wall, knees pulled up. You sat next to him with your legs in front of you.
“Don’t you ever get tired?” You suddenly asked in a soft voice. Matt tilted his head to listen to your body. You were calm now. You weren’t when he first showed up. Your heart was beating steady. She feels safe. She is safe. He could smell a lingering scent of your perfume on your skin. It smelled like black cherry and vanilla.
“Of what?” Matt asked in return.
“You know,” you shrugged, “expecting to be everyone’s savior.”
Matt shook his head, “not really. It’s easy to not get tired when you’ve accepted this as your purpose.”
“It’s your purpose, to bear the burden of other people’s situations?”
Matt laughed, despite himself. “Maybe.”
“Well, if you ever need someone to share that burden with—I’m right here,” you told him. “Even though I don’t actually know who you are.”
He smiled a little. “It’s better that way.”
“Is it?” You questioned. “I mean, you could literally be anyone. You might be one of my professors and I might not even know it. Actually, I’d hate that. I take it back,” you shook your head. Matt laughed again.
“I promise I’m not one of your professors.”
“Phew,” you said. “Well, who are you?”
“A New Yorker, like you.”
“I guess that counts,” you smiled. “How old are you?”
“Oh, come on,” Matt sighed.
“What? These are valid questions. I won’t figure out who you are, but I can know basic information. Can I guess? You’re definitely older than me.”
Another reason why this felt wrong. He wasn’t that much older than you—about seven years.
“I’m not that old,” Matt argued. You laughed.
“I didn’t say you were, Mike.”
“Let’s try another defense technique,” Matt said, changing the subject. He stood up from sitting and held out his hand for you. You grabbed it and he pulled you up. He let his hand linger in your touch before he let go again.
“Okay,” he said, “turn around.”
“What?”
“Turn around,” Matt repeated. “Do you trust me?”
“Yes,” you answered. Matt listened to you closely. You weren’t lying. You turned around.
“Do you mind if I…get close?”
It was your turn to pause. “No.”
“Okay,” Matt took a deep breath. He listened to you closely again, and using his senses, he took you in. He knew your hair was down. He slowly raised his hand and moved your hair to one side, revealing a part of your neck. He felt your goosebumps rise at his touch. You shivered. Matt pretended not to notice. He placed both his hands on either side of your waist, bringing you snug against him, so your back was against his chest. You felt warm against him, and delicate. He slid his arms underneath yours so he rested at your collarbone. He was completely holding you against him now.
“You okay?” He whispered in your ear. You took a shaky breath.
“Yeah,” you said in a small voice.
“Someone could come up from behind you, and grab you like this,” he held you tighter for emphasis. “Similar to before if they got hold of your arms, you have to slide out from underneath. And kick back, too.”
“Okay,” you said in understanding. “Let me try.”
Matt anticipated your moves. He felt your muscles tense as you braced yourself to slide down. And you did, quickly. You exited his restraint, and he didn’t feel warm anymore.
“Good,” Matt said, “exactly.”
You caught your breath. “Can we do it again?”
Matt nodded, motioning for you to come to him.
You slid easily back against him, like putting on a glove. It was like your body melted against his, the way you sunk back into position. You rested your head in the crook of his neck, taking a deep breath.
Matt could feel every muscle you had relax when you did this. It was then he slipped his arms under you again, holding you tightly—but not in the way he instructed before, a different way. He held you tighter against him and touched his covered nose on your temple. He took a deep breath, and instantly, like inhaling a drug, you filled his senses to the max. Your fragrance was intoxicating. He listened to your heartbeat slowly pick up its pace until it was pounding against your chest. He heard you take your own deep breath, as you sunk even more into his body.
It took everything in him to practice self-restraint. He repeated Bible verses in his head, the longer he held you.
A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls. Proverbs 25:28.
“Ready,” Matt whispered.
~~~
You slipped out of his grasp, and you were almost successful, but he held onto your right hand. Mike kept holding on, and suddenly, you were pulled right back into his grasp. This time, facing him, you collided flush against his chest.
He was breathing heavily, and God did you wish you could see his face underneath that mask. His mouth was slightly parted, and you were breathing heavily. You felt Mike’s strong arms snake around your waist, pulling you closer to him. His nose gently touched yours. You felt his hand run up the length of your spine before it rested on the back of your neck. And then, his lips were on yours.
The kiss… you felt his stubble tickle your face, but you didn’t care. His lips crashed into yours, which you accepted gracefully. His lips were soft, but his kiss was rough. Needy. Curious. It was intoxicating, being kissed like that. The closest thing to describing it was like a brand new day. It was like exploring a new universe, where only the two of you existed. Yeah, that’s what it felt like right now. You weren’t in New York City, on your rooftop anymore. It was you and him sharing this kiss, with no one else to see. In secret. His head tilted to the side to take more of you in. You breathed in sharply, desperate for more.
And then, he pulled back and rested his forehead against yours.
“Was that your plan all along?” You asked suspiciously.
“No,” Mike answered. “It wasn’t.”
“Good,” you said, “because that’d be messed up.”
Mike laughed.
“I fear we are way past messed up now, sweetheart.”
Hell’s Kitchen
1:00 AM
Your friends stumbled into the apartment. You were on the couch, LSAT textbook in your hand. You kept reading and re-reading the same paragraph over and over. Your mind kept replaying your moment with Mike, just an hour ago.
“There’s our girl,” Hannah walked in the living room, plopping on the couch next to you. Bella made a beeline for the fridge and Emily sat on the floor, turning the TV on.
“How’d studying go?” Hannah asked drunkenly.
You sighed and closed your textbook.
“Terrible,” you answered with a knowing smile, “I’m in deep trouble for this test.”
DIE FOR YOU - chapter 11 : "y/n asf"
Tumblr media
"okay next question," hyunjin took another flash card, "at what age does the brain become fully mature?"
"oh easy, 25 years old." you answered.
hyunjin was currently helping you study for your psychology test for tomorrow, like he promised when he took you out. it was going well so far and there were no major distractions.
"ugghh y/n im bored." hyunjin threw the flashcards on the desk and whined.
"hey! do you think i want to do this right now too?"
"well then lets just not do it.."
"hyunjin i HAVE to study for this test, it makes up like 30% of my grade." in truth though, you've already studied way more than needed. maybe you were just looking for an excuse to spend more time with him.
"oh cmon y/n, we've done 50 flash card and you've been studying the whole week. lets just stop now hm?" he offered
"okay, fine. but what will we do now?" you didn't want him to leave, but you didn't want to be bored either.
"uhhh icecream?" he raised his brow
"hyunjin it's almost 1 in the morning nothing is open." you hit his head softly.
"OH I KNOW-" you covered his mouth, "hyunjin shut up!! you'll wake them up" you scolded him
"sorry sorry. anyway how about we dye my hair." he said with a grin on his face.
"im sorry what?" you blinked a couple of times.
"well im kinda getting bored of this red, most of my outfits don't match with it either." he started playing with it.
"but i love the red. its so...you"
"awwww well thank you cutie." he squished your cheeks and surprisingly, you let him.
"well where could we find hair dye right at this time of night? and what color?"
"im sure theres a 24 hour market here somewhere. and i want to do black." he went on his phone and googled up places nearby.
"well, lets go then. you sure about this?" you asked one last time.
he shrugged his shoulders, "i guess"
‿୨♡୧‿
you and hyunjin were now in the convenience store looking at the hair dye. you guys were arguing about wether he should get permanent or temporary.
"hyunjin if you get permanent then you don't like it how will you take it off?" you tried to reason with him
"y/n my natural hair color is black...i know how i look." he laughed at you.
"oh...well my bad i didn't know you before this." you crossed your arms, why is he laughing at you?
"awww it's cute how much you care, cmon lets go to checkout." he dragged you along.
"just for the record i don't care."
he just looked back at you and smiled. you guys were at the register and hyunjin payed, then you left to walk back.
‿୨♡୧‿
hyunjin was in your bathroom on a chair with a towel over his shoulders, while you were mixing up the dye.
you came behind him and looked at him in the mirror "you ready?"
"lets do it."
so you got to work, spreading the dye all over his bright red hair and on his roots. you guys made small talk while doing so, asking him about his friends and whatnot. soon you guys finished and let it dry for 30 minutes, it should've been for longer but he couldn't wait.
you took him back to the bathroom where he leaned his head over the tub so you could wash it. you reached out to his hair and started running your fingers through it messily while he sighed, saying it felt like a massage. you finished up quickly and didn't allow him to look in any mirrors until you finished cleaning.
you led him to your dresser and made him sit down in front of it while you kept a hand over his eyes.
"okay you can look in 3...2...1!! open!!" you raised your hand off his eyes.
"wowww it looks good" he started playing with his hair and styling it.
you guys talked for a bit after that while admiring his new hair, eating some snacks, and obviously not forgetting to take some pictures.
"omg hyunjin its 3 am you have to go home" you couldn't have him spend the night.
"awww whyyy?" he pouted and put his arms around you. lately he was getting very touchy, but you didn't mind.
you tried pushing him off, "because i have to sleep and so do you! i have a big day tomorrow"
"but if i walk in the house that late they'll all be suspicious..." he looked away from you, he forgot about the dare.
"so? just tell them you fucked someone or something." you shrugged while chewing on your granola bar, not thinking much of it.
"can i tell them i fucked y-" you put your hand over his mouth once again, "dont even think about it."
you walked him to the door and let him put on his shoes, then he faced you.
"well, thanks for everything tonight y/n. i hope we can do it again." he smiled at you.
he wants to do this again? with you? damn since when did you become so weak for guys.
"your welcome hyunjin, thanks for taking me out too, it was super fun. oh and studying" you started to remember the whole night.
he went in to give you a hug, so you returned it, squeezing him tight. but when he pulled away you gave him a little peck on his lips.
"g'night hyune" you smirked and pushed him out the door.
did you really just kiss hwang hyunjin? this must be a dream, you thought to yourself. as you turned around to walk back to your room, you were met with three faces right in front of you. so naturally, you screamed.
"Y/N WHAT THE FUCK???" all 3 of your friends screamed at once.
"oh. my. god. yunjin you were here the whole time?" you thought she was with keeho.
"well duh!! i wanted to hear all the details when you came back from dinner with hyunjin but apparently you guys had other plans." she crossed her arms.
"yea y/n, other plans. such as dying his hair." haerin also crossed her arms.
"and kissing him." now hanni crossed her arms.
"ugh guys it's not that big of a deal, come sit down. i'll explain everything"
untitled janet/talia, Bruce's bio kid Tim AU pt. 1 (NOW no choice but to love you)
AO3 Link (a little behind, but better edited)
Janet scheduled her appointment with Bruce Wayne for a Tuesday.
Mondays were for business matters that came up over the weekend, easing back into the daily grind, and not much else. Wednesdays were notorious for dragging on and putting everyone in a poor mood. Thursdays were basically the weekend and Fridays for men like Bruce Wayne were simply not.
It had been a struggle to get such a short notice appointment, but she was wily and knew how to sweet talk assistants and secretaries alike and as such she earned herself her preferred time.
Tuesday morning at 9:30 am.
Sitting in her car at 8:53 am, Janet could only continue driving herself mad with her own swirling thoughts and recriminations. On one hand, she could leave and say “fuck it” to all of her hard work getting this meeting with Gotham’s unofficial official prince. Who would know? Not Bruce Wayne or the paparazzi, that’s for sure.
Unfortunately, she’d learned the hard way that avoiding this particular problem hadn’t made it go away. No, something had to give and she knew it was going to have to be her.
The thick stack of divorce papers on the passenger’s seat said as much.
She wasn’t much for dithering, not really. She’d gotten her crying out in the shower this morning like an adult and she wasn’t keen on revisiting it. She would have to redo her whole face, probably while walking through Wayne Enterprises to avoid being late. She could only imaging what the soulless corporate drones would think of her.
She let herself wallow until the clocked ticked over to 9. Then she killed the engine and climbed out, smoothing her business casual blouse and skirt. Checking her reflection in her side mirror, she fiddled with her ponytail and squinted over her eyeliner – was it uneven? Oh well. There wasn’t time to fix it now.
Before she walked away, she grabbed her purse from the backseat and checked its contents.
This was a first for her, she thought with a humorless smile; one of the most important business meetings of her life and she was walking into it armed only with a child sized toothbrush and a hairbrush. She would have to stop for replacements on her way home and thought that maybe Tim might like to go with her. The toothbrush was from a passing interest in dinosaurs and these days he was more of a superhero type kid.
The young woman at the front desk – the girl, really, was Bruce recruiting out of middle school? - rattled off a list of rules and restrictions for visitors as she efficiently issued Janet’s visitors pass. Tacked on at the end, she gave impressively detailed instructions on how to get the elevators and which one to take.
Janet nodded easily and was just about to move around to the plainly visible elevators behind the desk when a man appeared and slid into the vacant chair beside the girl. He gave her a little paper cup and kept the other one for himself.
“Sorry,” he said with an easy grin. “You treating our guests right, Becca?”
“I did the badge all by myself,” she confirmed, a slight smile peeking out from behind her general teenage apathy.
“Sorry,” he said again, turning his attention to Janet. He glanced over her pass quickly. “It’s bring your kid to work day, but you don’t need to worry about that if you’re visiting Mr. Wayne. His kids don’t like coming here any more than their daddy does. And the littlest one isn’t going anywhere soon!”
Janet’s answering smile was glass.
“My son actually loves coming to the office with me,” she said, choking back heavy guilt. She never should have come here. She should have made different choices ten times over, never should have dragged her son down with her. “He thinks shuffling paper is the single most important thing any businessman can do. I think he likes the sound of the paper on wood.”
“And he’s right as far as I can tell,” the man – his name tag read “Ron” – agreed easily.
Janet faked a laugh and extracted herself with a friendly shrug before bee-lining for the restrooms. She found a stall and firmly locked herself in before her face screwed up in misery. She shook her hands out, wanting to press them into her eyes or grip her hair, but she couldn’t ruin her mascara or her ponytail.
She forced herself to stop and took her phone out instead. Her phone background was a breathtaking view from a rented home in Tambobamba. She felt, if possible, shittier. Other mothers had their children as their background or lock screen.
Turning her screen off and then on, she stared judgmentally at the picture there of her and Jack. She would have to change that soon.
Then, just because she was deep in her self-loathing, she clicked through into her photo gallery. The last picture she’d taken of Tim was almost a week old from when the two of them went for ice cream after she’d fought with Jack – it had been a desperate grab for normalcy and she’d immediately posted it to her social medias, desperate for someone to see how hard she was trying and-
And what? Praise her for doing the bare minimum?
Tim was a cute kid, he was. But he was so sticky and clingy and he always talked too loud and after Tim fell asleep in his car seat on the way home Janet had cried herself nearly sick.
Janet swiped back to the home screen to search what she’d originally intended when she took her phone out.
Talia al Ghul due date
From the gossip rags, it looked like Talia would have a late summer baby. A son. Bruce Wayne’s “first” blood son.
Just after Tim’s birthday, she thought. Which was... just over two weeks away at this point. She had nothing planned yet. What did people do for sixth birthdays?
…Hiring a clown was probably out.
Janet didn’t sigh, very aware that there were other people coming in and out of the public restroom. She double checked that her phone was set to silent before stowing it away again. Not that many people were clamoring for her time, not anymore. She was viciously glad of the fact. Let Jack choke on all the emails he couldn’t bother reading for all she cared.
Janet slid the lock and stepped out into the fray once more.
She still washed her hands because she wasn’t a savage and quickly exited the bathroom. Now that she knew to look for it, a few of the people she saw around did look too young for the workforce. Stepping into the elevator she needed, she was joined by a couple of employees dressed smartly and a girl around Tim’s age in a shimmering mermaid tail dress.
This had to be a punishment. This was as close to Hell as she believed in.
The little girl chattered happily up until the 21st floor when she was pulled out of the elevator by her mother. The other employee got off on the 25th and Janet rode nearly to the top all alone.
