USD to CAD Conversion Forecast: What to Expect in 2024 (for the US and Canada)
The exchange rate between the US Dollar (USD) and the Canadian Dollar (CAD) is a critical factor for businesses and individuals alike in both the United States and Canada. Whether you're traveling north for vacation, sending money to family across the border, or conducting cross-border business, understanding the USD to CAD forecast can help you make informed financial decisions.
This blog delves into the factors influencing the USD to CAD exchange rate and explores expert predictions for the rest of 2024. We'll equip you with the knowledge to navigate currency fluctuations and potentially save money on your next exchange.
Factors Affecting the USD to CAD Exchange Rate
Several key factors influence the USD to CAD exchange rate. Here's a breakdown of the most significant ones:
Interest Rates: The interest rate differential between the Federal Reserve (US) and the Bank of Canada significantly impacts the USD to CAD rate. A higher interest rate in Canada compared to the US generally strengthens the CAD and weakens the USD. This incentivizes investors to hold CAD-denominated assets for higher returns.
Oil Prices: Canada is a major oil producer, and oil prices heavily influence the CAD. When oil prices rise, demand for CAD increases, leading to a stronger Canadian dollar against the USD.
Economic Performance: The relative economic performance of the US and Canada plays a role. A stronger US economy with higher GDP growth can lead to a stronger USD relative to the CAD.
Political Environment: Political stability and uncertainty can affect currency exchange rates. Events like elections, trade disputes, and geopolitical tensions can trigger significant fluctuations in the USD to CAD rate.
Supply and Demand: The fundamental principle of supply and demand applies to currencies as well. If there's a higher demand for CAD compared to USD, the CAD will appreciate, and vice versa.
USD to CAD Conversion Forecast for 2024: Expert Opinions
Economists and analysts offer varying forecasts for the USD to CAD exchange rate in 2024. Here's a glimpse into some expert predictions:
RBC Capital Markets: RBC expects a modest appreciation of the CAD by the end of 2024, with the USD to CAD rate reaching around 1.39. [Ref. 4]
JPMorgan Research: J.P. Morgan anticipates a slight depreciation of the CAD, with the USD to CAD potentially reaching 1.33 by December 2024. [Ref. 3]
Citibank: Citibank takes a more bullish stance, forecasting the USD to CAD to appreciate to 1.40 by year-end 2024. [Ref. 3]
ING Group: ING Group expects a stronger CAD, predicting the USD to CAD to reach 1.28 by the end of 2024. [Ref. 3]
Economy Forecast Agency (EFA): EFA forecasts a moderate appreciation of the CAD, with the USD to CAD potentially reaching 1.3140 by December 2024. [Ref. 3]
What Does This Mean for You?
The wide range of forecasts highlights the inherent uncertainty in predicting Currency Exchange rates. However, understanding these predictions and the underlying factors can help you make informed decisions.
Here are some things to consider:
Travelers: If you're planning a trip from the US to Canada, monitor the USD to CAD rate to potentially get the most out of your travel budget when exchanging currency.
Businesses: Companies involved in cross-border trade should factor in potential currency fluctuations when pricing goods and services and managing financial exposure.
Investors: Investors considering assets denominated in either USD or CAD can use the USD to CAD forecast to potentially make informed investment decisions.
Tips for Managing Currency Fluctuations
Despite the inherent uncertainties, you can still manage currency fluctuations to some extent:
Currency Exchange Services: Compare rates offered by different banks, money exchange services, and online platforms to get the best deal when converting currencies.
Currency Forward Contracts: Businesses can utilize forward contracts to lock in an exchange rate for a future date, mitigating the risk of unfavorable fluctuations.
Travel Cards: Consider using travel cards that often offer more competitive exchange rates compared to traditional traveler's checks.
Conclusion
The USD to CAD exchange rate is a dynamic factor influenced by various economic and geopolitical forces. By staying informed about the key drivers and monitoring expert forecasts, you can make informed financial decisions when dealing with cross-border transactions in the US and Canada.

heyo got any tips on writing gangs?
Writing Gangsters
Organized Crime vs. Gangs
Although the terms are used interchangeably, there's a difference between organized criminal networks and gangs.
Organized crimes have focuses on material gain and therefore has a more hierarchical leadership structure.
The activities of gangs are usually more fragmented, opportunistic and based on individual contacts, more entangled with the personal lives of its members.
Of course, if a street gang become powerful enough, large enough and resourceful enough, it comes a full-blown criminal organization.
Background: Time, Place, Economic Condition
Research into the characteristics of the time and place where your gang is.
Oftentimes, gangs form when the economic conditions of a country/region is down. People, especially those who are marginalized, are disillusioned which can lead them to make desperate choices.
It's important to note that many gangs are formed initally to serve as the "police" in a neighborhood where no police would enter because (for some reason) they feel as if there's nothing they can do.
Gangs may start with a "good" reason, but it just so happens that eventually they become the very thing they sought to get rid of.
Compelling Character Motivation
With the socio-geographical context as backdrop, give your characters a clear reason why they would join and stay in a gang.
A young teen may join a gang out of pure whim, maybe for money, but eventually it's going to have to be more than that.
Idolization - an older sibling is in the gang
Inclusion - connection with others is so wanted due to a lack of it in a dysfunctional family
Stability - feeling secure in a neighborhood where gangs seems like a viable option; if a gang is already terrorizing the area, joining it may seem like a way to protect one's family
Financial security - jobs may seem out of reach; it si high risk and high rewards but your character may be that desperate
Ambition/thirst for power/revenge
+ Yes, someone may join the gang because they don't want to work a regular job and want quick money, but I wouldn't say they are lazy. From what I understand, gangs require work...

Pile 1: Seashells
For those of you who picked pile one. I pulled: the 9 of pentacles, the fool, the chariot, the 7 of cups, and the knight of pentacles. I see two very contrasting energies, one very grounded, and the other is very free spirited (take it how it resonates, could be you or them) Or they have a certain duality to their personality. They seem very confident in themselves, they see an opportunity, and they go for it. They are so confident that they often wander into situations without much thought (what I got with the fool card) which could benefit them or it just doesn’t. I feel like they are easily influenced, so it’s hard for them to make their own decisions (7 of cups) I feel like when they meet you, they will try not to mess things up with you, and they will make a very slow approach to you (contradicting their free spirit nature) They will see you as a grand person in their best energy, and will try to grow up a little bit in terms of their energy not matching up to yours. I see this can be in financial terms or energetically because I pulled the fool for them (can be interchangeable) and the 9 of pentacles for you. I think they’ll be confused as to whether or not they’re the one for you, but it would become more obvious as time goes by for them. I get a childlike energy for them. (Not childish, but innocent)
Pile 2: Flowers
I see a LOT of action! I pulled the empress, the 8 of wands, the tower, the knight of swords, the 9 of cups, and the king of swords! (Extra card popped out) I feel like before you meet your future spouse, there will be two options (one will be astronomically better than the other person) because the king of swords appeared next to the 9 of cups (9 of cups trying to be just like the king of swords, it’s not) I feel like the “better” option (in your eyes, the king) will try to impress you? I see that your future spouse may be very fiery, they may like debate and is prone to starting fiery debates or arguments. They may be a person who boasts, yet is very fair, intellectual, and humble. They have achieved a lot in life and they like to put their “trophies” on display. I’m getting a specific message for some. They are either really good communicators (really talkative) or they are planning on reaching out to you soon (if you don’t know them yet) I see that they may be family oriented, regarding their mother or a mother figure, or sees you as very warm and abundant.
Pile 3: The Beach
I pulled the 2 of cups, the 10 of swords, the 4 of swords, the 10 of wands, and the wheel of fortune. Very mixed energy, I get that this person can be a bit over dramatic, like they put on a show. You never know what to expect with them (wheel of fortune) but they do have a heavy past (which I’m not going to elaborate on) but despite their acts, they do deal with a lot behind the scenes. They are very hard working, and sometimes bites off more than they can chew in terms of work load. They need to learn how to relax and let go sometimes, let things flow. They mean well, and they will honor this connection. I’m seeing that someone’s angels are bringing you two together. Fate will bring you two together. They are a peaceful person in nature. They value partnerships. I saw the number 101010. You are meant to know this person. I’m hearing that this could be a soulmate or twin flame (take it as it resonates) They could love to take naps. Knows how to pick themselves (and you) up when things are not going well for them (or you) Maybe shy since some cards don’t show their face (or they’re mysterious) I’m getting that (from earlier) they may put on a show to hide their dark past or feelings. Could be physically strong.

Headcanons of The Cousins
Beforehand: These are just my personal headcanons, it's okay if you don't like them; you are entitled to your own opinions and can freely scroll by.
Creator Notes: I headcanon that König's birth name is Darius Doss, I will be using that name and König interchangeably.
Tumblr media
DARIUS "KÖNIG" DOSS
-I headcanon that he's Krueger's younger Cousin by a few months on his mother's side, hence the surname "Doss"
-Born with a cleft lip, a possible reason why he was bullied as a child alongside him being a fairly chubby kid.
-Took up smoking when he was 15 as a way to fit in, he's been clean for 12 years.
-In regards to his social anxiety, it's not that severe as it once was when he was a teen; he gets dizzy when his social battery is running low.
- Darius has dark brown hair, not blond/ginger, natural freckles.
-Buzzes his head constantly to keep cool, it must get hot in his sniper hood.
-Carries an abundance of gear; as much as he is confident in his abilities, he overthinks
-had a huge growth spurt when he was 18, so he went from 6' to 6'8".
-He's mean, alot meaner than Krueger, but he's more patient.
Tumblr media
SEBASTIAN JOSEF KRUEGER
-I headcanon that he's König's Older cousin ( He would be 38 in Modern Warfare 2, so König being a colonel still makes sense to a degree)
-Buzzes his head occasionally, or when it gets too hot to manage
-Lost contact with his external family after he killed his parents, didn't reunite with König until He was in his mid thirties.
-Grew up with childhood food insecurity; even though he lived in one of the more wealthy parts in Austria, his parents didn't make good financial decisions to support a child.
-Started smoking at 15 as an act of rebellion, it slowly turned into a way to relieve stress in the field so he never stopped.
-Too smart for his own good, he was a problem child
-Wanted to look out for his cousin; he doesn't know if it was out of pity or genuine care
-Had the stupidest gelled up hairstyle when he was 16.
-Can't wink, so he just squints.
Tumblr media
HEADCANONS FOR BOTH
-Their families often went on trips to Nordsee Beach when they were younger, gave them time to bond
-Awkwardness runs in their genes, Krueger is just so overly confident that he convinces himself things worked out
-Both extremely observant to the point it's kind of scary, must run in the family.
-Both are extremely intelligent however the moment they are put into a a room together they are two of the dumbest people on earth
- They pretend not to know each other while on duty during cross faction missions. (Both are kind of embarrassed to be related to each other)
-Darius has not forgiven Krueger for parricide.
If you made it this far to the post, I want to thank you for reading! Hopefully my rambles are coherent enough to be understandable xD Please have these Old sketches of them as babies/teens as a thank you :)

I think the main thing that absolutely infuriates me about the "Romeo and Juliet were just dumb, horny teens" take is this implication that because they were so young, their relationship had to boil down to them being dramatic and inventing some great romance to moan about, or lust and hormones. As a teenager, it makes me want to tear the speaker apart with my bare hands. Interchangeably with stabbing, maybe.
When you look at the text, you can clearly see that there is some emotional connection between Juliet and Romeo. Their first conversation is literally a sonnet - which already indicates some sort of understanding and mutuality, and it's also beautiful poetry. They are the only characters in the entire play that they are really fully comfortable talking to. The adults are caught up in the feud, Nurse loves Juliet, but cannot understand her (and makes a dirty joke at her expense in Act I, which for a person Juliet's age would be awfully unpleasant), Romeo's friends, though I Iove them, don't get his sensitivity - Mercutio laughing at it and Benvolio worried by it - which Juliet, in turn, appreciates. They speak of each other with respect and admiration, quite unusually in Verona, where all is conflict and even Juliet's own father insults her: look at the sonnet, the balcony scene, Romeo comparing his sweetheart to the sun or a jewel (in contrast to his earlier quotes about Rosaline, which are literally a compilation of clichés stacked on top of one another). Even when Juliet awaits their wedding night, in a speech clearly centered on sexual matters, there is a visible softness and affection with which she treats Romeo ("cut him out in little stars"...). She waits for the night because it's him, not "I want to sleep with someone because I want to sleep with someone". The two genuinely care about each other, and are fond of each other. Of course, we can wonder if this love would last if they were given an opportunity to grow older, but when the play takes place, this love is there, and it's beautiful.
(Off-topic, I'd also like to note that this is an Elizabethan play that takes place in even earlier times, presumably late medieval - early renaissance Italy. They wouldn't live in the modern world where you can date many different people and settle well into your thirties or fourties. The average marriage age for girls in Shakespeare's time was about twenty, in fifteenth century Florence it was eighteen. Both of them were from wealthy families, so they'd likely be expected - even if Juliet's parents did not force her into a marriage with Paris - to marry earlier, for financial and political purposes. There couldn't be a "growing older" like we imagine it. Even their hypothetical different relationships would be early relationships for today's standards)
And it makes my blood boil when the visible genuine bond between these two is reduced to just "dumb kids being horny". The motive behind these words being partly, of course, the high-school-acquired All Required Reading is Nonsense edginess, but also a deeper issue - the inability to comprehend the fact that teenage love is also often real love.
Being capable of having deep and meaningful romantic relationships does not come baked into your birthday cake when you turn eighteen or attached to your first ever bill. Not every single feeling a teenager might harbour is at its core shallow lust and wanting to get laid. Of course, there's lots of cases of shortsighted infatuation where the pair really have nothing in common! I could name at least a few examples I have seen personally. But still, on every street and every corner of the world, and often a few metres from these pointless infatuations, teens fall in love because there's something more to it. Because they find they have a lot in common, because they get along well with each other, because they are able to see the good in the other person - their kindness, their intelligence, their enthusiasm, you name it. "Teens" including the younger teens, from thirteen to fifteen. And this love is a deep emotional bond. Sure, in most cases it will not last until death (and to be honest, relationships not working out is not really a teenage-specific phenomenon and a sign that young love of all is inherently doomed and it has to die so the curse of growing up is fulfilled), but it doesn't make it less of a love when it still remains, and it includes all the things love is about. Young couples go on dates, and have fun. They confide in each other. They support each other through hard times, they show care, they sometimes make sacrifices for their loved one's good. As any person in love does, at any age.
When I fell in love four months ago, I did not fall in love because I wanted to sleep with someone so bad. In fact, I do not want to - not for the next several years. I realise it's something I might want someday, but it's not today; and above all, I'm way too young. If anything, what I want is to kiss someone, or run my fingers through his hair, or read with his head in my lap - but it's not something I'd go out of my way and date a random person to get, come on. I fell in love because he is actually the first boy that reminds me of myself so much, the first I can understand so well. Because I also have a penchant for history and writing, I also tend to use formal and flowery language in very informal situations, I also enjoy people's attention (though I seem to worry more about being a potential inconvenience than he does), I also believe that we should judge people as individuals, because there's too much nuance in one person to make proper statements about large groups - and I find in him so many things that I can relate to, though of course I can't say I know him well enough to speak much for sure. Besides, he's simply a wonderful person, not flawless, of course, but he has a good heart. He is always kind, and well-mannered, and intelligent, and you can laugh with him. He would care if something bad happened, no matter if he says that he wouldn't. I think I know him well enough to say this at least. And if he loved me back (a thing I consider unlikely for now, but not entirely impossible), would we stay together forever? Heaven alone knows! Maybe not! It is up to the higher power. But even if we broke up, that wouldn't erase the fact that I loved him, and I would have done a lot for him, and we were able to have meaningful conversations. Just because a love isn't forever, doesn't mean it was never there.
Because - what the "dumb kids" people don't seem to grasp - teenagers are also human beings with a functioning, even if not fully developed, brain, capable of having complex feelings and thoughts just like an adult. Note that Shakespeare's leads, at least Juliet, actually do that - hence the pre-wedding night monologue, the "deny thy father and refuse thy name", her statement (I don't know the English original of that one, to be honest) that she is too soft and loving towards Romeo already, but it's because she has such profound feelings for him she can't even pretend to be strict. It's noticeable that she has some emotional maturity, at least - she shows some critical thinking abilities, she understands the consequences of many actions, she is able to see that the feud is pointless and a name is just a name. She's a teenager, and someone in their teens is also a Homo sapiens specimen, not a being from a different planet. Teens think and feel. It might not be the same reality as the adult one, and they don't deal with emotions with such ease as an adult would, but that doesn't mean they are unable to truly love and care, to enjoy talking to someone and want the best for them, like grown-ups do - as developing an affection for someone that makes you happy is a very human thing, and I can guarantee you a thirteen or fourteen-year-old is a developed enough human being to experience it.
So, to sum it up, if I hear any "Romeo and Juliet were just dumb kids being horny" on my watch, the author of this statement will presumably be mercilessly killed, and then I'll do as Fulvia allegedly did to Cicero and stab something through their tongue, except instead of a hairpin, I'll probably use one of the darts my little brother got for Christmas. They are very sharp. We have several holes in the floor already.

I’m sure someone else has beaten me to it, but here’s a translation of the ledger Andreas can find in the abbey library, with my translation notes – long post below the cut:
Mother Katharine, Prioress AD 1459[1]
Sister Hildegard, 16 years old Named Anna Gölderich, of Ravensburg. Proficient in Latin. Studious and obedient, with a soft, pious voice. 150 florins donated by her father. Additional 15 florins annually.
Mother Hildegard[2] AD March 1481
Sister Cecilia Daughter of the Welser family of Augsburg[3]. Named Adelheit. She is wise and learned in Latin and French. 200 florins given by the family before her arrival. Additional promise of 20 florins annually. AD August 1505
Sister Gertrude Named Metze[4] Huberyn, born in the Variscan Court[5]. Minimal proficiency in Latin. Kind and knowledgeable about herbal medicine. Most knowledge passed down by her father, an apothecary, who donated six florins to the monastery.
Sister[6] Matilda, 17 years old From Kempten[7], named Matilda. Moderately proficient in Latin. Calm, disciplined. Daughter of a Frisian merchant who donated ten florins and a large quantity of ultramarine pigment for the Scriptorium’s use. Mittenwald Ascetarium, May 1515 to September 1515[8]
Sister Illuminata Named Angelina, from the noble Capocci[9] family of Perugia, who were close to Abbot Rudolf[10]. Extremely learned in Latin as well as French and Germanic languages[11]. Restrained[12], sensible, and perceptive. The Capocci family donated 50 florins before her arrival, with an additional promise of 20 florins annually. 1507
Mother Cecilia, Prioress February AD 1510
Sister Sophia Born to the Hafner family in Birgitz. No knowledge of Latin but gentle and reverent. Parents are humble paupers. Three sacks of flour donated. AD 1512
Sister Lijsbet, 34 years old Born in Dutch Trecht[13], from the Hack Woutersen marriage[14]. Moderately proficient in Latin but proficient in Saxon. Hardworking and pious. Merchant parents. She has long been connected to Kiersau through her mother’s family, the Kaufmanns of Rothenburg ob der Tauer. They gave 12 florins, with an additional promise of two florins annually. AD 1514
Sister Margarete From the Auer family in Krimml. Mostly blind due to glaucoma. Can see colours. Moderately proficient in Latin. The daughter of wealthy peasants who each donated bags of wool and pastureland in Krimml. AD 1515
Sister Zdena The third daughter of the Rožmberk family of Tábor[15]. Very learned and proficient in Latin. The Rožmberks paid 100 florins before her arrival, with an additional promise of 30 florins annually.
---
[1] In the original text, the year is written as MCCCCLVIIII. Typically this would be written as MCDLIX, in accordance with subtractive notation (i.e. how we normally write Roman numerals), but there are historical examples of additive notation sometimes being used, for some reason – sometimes both would be used interchangeably in the same document, or even the same number.
[2] This entry likely documents Hildegard’s promotion as opposed to there being two Hildegards in the abbey, as there’s no other information included and the same is done for Sister, later Mother Cecilia below.
[3] The Latin here is originally pretty clunky and obscure (“Welser daughter of the Augsburg Vindelici”); Andreas explicitly mentions Cecilia’s family as well (and telegraphs other important information for the player this way). The Welsers were a German merchant family that rose to prominence in the 16th century as financiers for the Habsburgs along with another family, the Fuggers. They accumulated their wealth mainly through trade and the German colonisation of the Americas, including enslaved labour, so. Yikes!  The Vindelici were a Gallic people based in present-day Augsburg; I don’t actually know if the Welsers themselves were descended from them, but I’d assume so, given that the region is correct.
[4] Diminutive form of Mechthild.
[5] The contemporary name for Hof, believed at the time to be the seat of the Varisci/Narisci people.
[6] Sister Matilda is an oblate, as are Lijsbet and Magarete. Oblates aren’t professed monks or nuns, and so are technically part of the laity, but have associated themselves with a monastic community. They make formal promises – either annually or for life, depending on their affiliated monastery – to follow the Rule of the Order; as a result, they’re considered an extended part of the monastic community.
[7] I initially was stumped by this word and thought it referred to Matilda’s occupation in the abbey as cellarer, but then remembered Andreas reads she’s from Kempten, the old Latin name for which is, indeed, Cambodunum.
[8] Matilda’s age is either current in 1518, which would’ve meant she was 14 when Lorenz Rothvogel attacked her, or her record was retroactively updated to reflect her leave in 1515, making her 20+. Unfortunately, I think both are equally plausible, though being in her 20s would mean her relationship with Brother Wojslav, who imo appears to be older, has (slightly) less of an age gap.
[9] A quick search reveals the real-life Capocci were mostly associated with Viterbo, which is not Perugia lol.
[10] Another clunker originally.
[11] Theodiscus was the contemporary term referring to West Germanic languages; it comes from a Germanic adjective meaning ‘of the people.’ Since Latin was the language of science and religion, theodiscus was its opposite, i.e. the language spoken by the people.
[12] Retinēre very broadly means ‘to keep or hold back’ and so usually gets translated as either ‘to restrain’ or ‘to uphold.’ In describing a person, it can suggest any number of things: literally, physically restrained, or emotionally restrained, as in temperate or even repressed; someone who is steadfast and firm, or simply just is intelligent – as in, literally retains information well. Illuminata is all of these things, but I think ‘restrained’ suits her most compared to, say, tenacious.
[13] Utrecht. The city takes its name from the Roman fort Traiectum on the Rhine.
[14] Imma be real with you chief, other than Hack and Woutersen both being Dutch names, I have no fucking clue what this references – if anything – and I’ve found nothing that would help shed some light on it, either.
[15] The Rožmberk (Rosenberg) family was one of, if not the most powerful noble family in Bohemia from the 13th century until the early 17th century. Zdena is RICH rich, but her story is also pretty sad; it’s little wonder she’s Like That.

Planets, tools, and other objects may be associated with it by various systems, although these associations are significantly less standardised than those of the other four elements. The element of spirit has various names. The most popular are spirit, ether or aether, and quintessence, which is Latin for "fifth element."
There is no universal symbol for spirit, however circles are prevalent. Eight-spoked wheels and spirals are also used to symbolise spirit. Spirit connects the physical and spiritual realms. In cosmological conceptions, the spirit is the intermediary substance between the physical and heavenly realms. Within the microcosm, the spirit serves as the link between the body and the soul.
Invoke your god or goddess. This can be accomplished by looking into their correspondences and making sacrifices or burning suitable incense, for example. If you discover a chant you enjoy, you may utilise it as well, or focus on this god, welcoming the message they wish to convey to you.
Practice divination! This is one of the most effective techniques to connect with the spiritual dimension. It allows you to bypass your conscious mind, which sometimes prevents us from receiving subconscious instructions. Whether you use tarot, a pendulum, or runes, calling on spirit or a specific god can help you connect with this element while performing divination.
Keep a dream notebook. We frequently receive messages in our sleep that we quickly forget unless we write them down. When we sleep, our conscious mind is not functioning, leaving us more receptive to receiving messages from Spirit. To interpret the dreams, become familiar with common symbolism and interpret them instinctively.
Draw, paint, or colour a mandala. This is a style of meditation derived from the Buddhist and Hindu practices of Tantra. Mandalas became popular in the New Age movement after Carl Jung presented them as a tool to examine the subconscious, and they can now be found almost anywhere, including adult colouring books.

this is probably a frothing hot take but if you, as a minimum wage employee, get pissed about recreational shoplifters (i.e.: people not stealing for survival) because you think that shoplifting has any impact on your wage or job security
guess what! it's actually the corporation you work for that is threatening you. if they tell you wages are low because people are stealing, not only are they lying to you, the only reason they're telling you that is to make clear to you how precarious your employment is and how they see you as financially interchangeable to a tube of lipgloss. if your employer in any way telegraphs to you, explicitly or implicitly, that your livelihood is somehow tied to someone stealing something, this is a direct attempt to make you feel powerless, small and disposable

Sending Money to Australia from Canada: A Comprehensive Guide
Thinking of sending money to Australia from Canada? This guide explores the different methods, fees, exchange rates, and best practices to ensure a smooth and cost-effective transfer.
Introduction
Sending money to loved ones, business associates, or for any other reason in Australia from Canada can seem like a daunting task. But with the right information and tools, it can be a straightforward process. This comprehensive guide will break down everything you need to know about sending money to Australia from Canada, including:
Popular methods for transferring funds
Factors to consider when choosing a transfer service
Fees and exchange rates
Regulations and limits
Tips for saving money on your transfer
Popular Methods for Sending Money to Australia
Several options are available for Canadians transferring funds to Australia. Here's a breakdown of the most common methods:
Bank Wire Transfers: Banks offer wire transfers, which are generally fast and reliable. However, they often come with hefty fees, including transfer fees, intermediary bank fees, and currency conversion markups.
Money Transfer Services: Specialized money transfer services like Wise (formerly TransferWise), WorldRemit, or Xoom can be a more cost-effective option compared to banks. They typically offer competitive exchange rates and lower transfer fees.
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Payments: Services like PayPal allow for quick and convenient money transfers between individuals. However, transaction fees and exchange rates may vary depending on the amount and recipient location.
Prepaid Cards: Consider prepaid cards as an alternative for smaller amounts. These cards can be loaded with Canadian dollars and used in Australia for ATM withdrawals or online purchases.
Choosing the Right Transfer Service
When selecting a money transfer service, consider these factors:
Fees: Compare transfer fees, intermediary bank fees if applicable, and currency conversion markups. Look for services with transparent fee structures and competitive Exchange rates.
Transfer Speed: Determine how quickly you need the funds to arrive in Australia. Bank wire transfers are typically the fastest, while other services may take 1-4 business days.
Transfer Limits: Be aware of any limitations on the amount you can send per transaction or within a specific timeframe.
Security: Choose a reputable and well-established money transfer service with robust security measures to protect your financial information.
Fees and Exchange Rates
Understanding fees and exchange rates is crucial when sending money internationally. Here's what to keep in mind:
Transfer Fees: These fees vary depending on the service you choose. Banks typically have higher transfer fees, while money transfer services often offer lower or more transparent fee structures.
Intermediary Bank Fees: If your transfer involves multiple banks, you may incur additional fees from intermediary banks. Look for services that minimize these fees.
Currency Conversion Markups: Most money transfer services and banks apply a markup on the exchange rate. This markup translates to a slightly lower amount received by your recipient in Australia. Compare these markups to find the most favorable rate.
Regulations and Limits
Canadian regulations allow for a certain amount of money to be transferred abroad without reporting requirements. Typically, you won't need to report transfers below a specific threshold (check with your bank or financial institution for current limits). However, for larger transfers, you may need to file additional paperwork.
Tips for Saving Money on Your Transfer
Here are some strategies to save money when transferring funds to Australia:
Compare Rates and Fees: Don't settle for the first option you find. Compare rates and fees across different banks, money transfer services, and P2P platforms.
Send Larger Amounts Less Frequently: Sending a larger sum in one go can sometimes be more cost-effective than multiple smaller transfers due to lower per-transaction fees.
Consider Mid-Market Exchange Rates: Look for money transfer services that offer transfers close to the mid-market exchange rate, which is the average rate between the buy and sell prices of currencies.
Avoid Weekend Transfers: Weekend transfers often come with higher processing fees. Plan your transfers for weekdays when possible.
Conclusion Sending money to Australia from Canada doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. By understanding your options, comparing fees and exchange rates, and considering these tips, you can ensure your transfer reaches its destination smoothly and cost-effectively.

given that the scientific institution is so flawed, how would you go about refuting the argument often used by religion and conspiracy theorists that, well, you believe in gravity/atoms/the universe etc. because scientists have told you it is so (hence it's no different than believing in god or other such unfalsifiable beliefs). it makes me so angry but i never know how to respond :/
going to be provocative here and say that it's never going to be useful or feasible to try sorting all facts / theories into two opposing buckets labelled 'religious' and 'scientific' so, let's go ahead and toss that fantasy. i also think that it's actually pretty common for people to interact with and accept scientific claims largely the same way they do spiritual / religious / conspiratorial / occult ones, such as by appeals to common sense (think of, like, intelligent design, which is a classic example of both a religious and scientific claim) or by testimony of trusted figures. the result is that for a lot of people, there legitimately is not a particularly well-defined distinction between their spiritual or religious beliefs and their scientific ones, certainly not in how they came to believe in these things; you can say the same about many political beliefs too.
however, the state of this epistemological crisis doesn't justify the fideist claim that scientific 'revelation' is genuinely interchangeable with religious revelation / faith, or the following implied 'ought' claim ("you can't justify xyz scientific claims, so therefore you actually should consider them as having the same philosophical status as xyz conspiracy theory or theological claim"). instead i would say what we're dealing with here is an urgent need to make scientific claims and knowledge-making more transparent to lay people. this of course doesn't mean i'm asking for a world in which there is no difference between the claims made by people with varying levels of knowledge and expertise. but you shouldn't need to be a career scientist, or a person who can afford university tuition, in order to be able to engage with scientific ideas and debates, or to see how working scientists develop their theories and on what evidentiary basis. (hint: this is part of what's at stake when i talk about university abolition.)
obviously, the fact that a scientist claimed something doesn't make it beyond questioning; indeed, many scientific theories and claims are later refuted, revised, nuanced, or otherwise altered. but, when people use the fact that scientific claims can and should be challenged as a reason to throw their hands up and decide that anything and everything might be true, they're not actually engaging with any sort of challenge to the process of knowledge-making, whether in the scientific domain or the religious one. instead what they're trying to do is use the (real and genuinely troubling) problems with scientific community norms (gatekept knowledge, heavy reliance on consensus mechanisms, enforced and widening gap between experts and lay persons in order to protect professional and pecuniary interests) as the basis for a claim that therefore, knowledge simply can't be challenged or verified, their own claims included. this isn't a means of democratising knowledge or reforming scientific practice, it's a shortcut to pushing whatever their ideological or epistemological agenda is. and it will continue to be difficult to refute with any degree of seriousness so long as scientific claims continue to be propagated as top-down expert knowledge that lay people are actively discouraged from engaging with, because doing so would threaten the financial interests of institutions like universities and professional guilds.

The Hamas charters
Hamas has had two charters, the first in 1988 and the second in 2017.
I have posted about this before, where I reviewed the charters and exposed their antisemitism, but I cannot find that post, so I'm making a new one.
The 1988 Charter:
Hamas is also known as the Islamic Resistance Movement.
"Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it" "Our struggle against the Jews is very great and very serious." "Initiatives, and so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences, are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement." "There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad." "In face of the Jews' usurpation of Palestine, it is compulsory that the banner of Jihad be raised."
Hamas was not formed to find a peaceful solution, it is a nationalistic militant group formed to wage what they consider to be a holy war.
Hamas' original charter states that they believe Jews have "infiltrated" all kinds of organizations and have caused several wars, all with the goal of achieving Zionism. When they say "the enemies", they mean Jews. This document does not differentiate between Jews and Zionists and uses the terms interchangeably. Article 22 is where the antisemitism really hits the fan. The following is all one single long paragraph; I've broken it up to single out the individual antisemitic conspiracy theories:
"For a long time, the enemies have been planning, skillfully and with precision, for the achievement of what they have attained. They took into consideration the causes affecting the current of events. They strived to amass great and substantive material wealth which they devoted to the realisation of their dream."
Antisemitic conspiracy theory that Jews are all immeasurably wealthy? Check!
"With their money, they took control of the world media, news agencies, the press, publishing houses, broadcasting stations, and others."
Antisemitic conspiracy theory that that Jews control the media? Check!
"With their money they stirred revolutions in various parts of the world with the purpose of achieving their interests and reaping the fruit therein. They were behind the French Revolution, the Communist revolution and most of the revolutions we heard and hear about, here and there."
Antisemitic conspiracy theory that Jews have caused many wars throughout history? Check!
"With their money they formed secret societies, such as Freemasons, Rotary Clubs, the Lions and others in different parts of the world for the purpose of sabotaging societies and achieving Zionist interests."
Oh hey it's the Judeo-Masonic antisemitic conspiracy theory!
"With their money they were able to control imperialistic countries and instigate them to colonize many countries in order to enable them to exploit their resources and spread corruption there."
And of course the antisemitic conspiracy theory that Jews secretly control the governments of major countries around the world. I remind you, all of this was in one single paragraph.
This document is wildly disorganized, so we go back to blaming Jews for wars, this time, WWI:
"They were behind World War I, when they were able to destroy the Islamic Caliphate, making financial gains and controlling resources. They obtained the Balfour Declaration, formed the League of Nations through which they could rule the world. They were behind World War II, through which they made huge financial gains by trading in armaments, and paved the way for the establishment of their state. It was they who instigated the replacement of the League of Nations with the United Nations and the Security Council to enable them to rule the world through them. There is no war going on anywhere, without having their finger in it."
I just cannot believe anyone who claims Hamas is not an antisemitic organization. Hamas blames Jews for both world wars and is claiming Jews literally "rule the world" and control the UN.
"They aim at undermining societies, destroying values, corrupting consciences, deteriorating character and annihilating Islam. It is behind the drug trade and alcoholism in all its kinds so as to facilitate its control and expansion."
Jews are also apparently behind drugs and alcoholism and want to annihilate Islam. This would almost be funny if this document was not the charter of a real-world organization.
This document goes on and on. It cites the "Protocols of Zion", which is a known fake document written by antisemites and not by Jews:
"After Palestine, the Zionists aspire to expand from the Nile to the Euphrates. When they will have digested the region they overtook, they will aspire to further expansion, and so on. Their plan is embodied in the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion", and their present conduct is the best proof of what we are saying."
So that's the 1988 charter. THIS IS WHAT HAMAS IS FOUNDED ON. These are their FUNDAMENTAL BELIEFS. You cannot separate Hamas from this document, nor all the foulness and hatred it contains.
The 2017 Charter
Let's look at the 2017 charter now. For fairness. Maybe they've cooled down the antisemitism or desire to kill every Jew in the Levant?
"The Zionist project is a racist, aggressive, colonial and expansionist project based on seizing the properties of others; it is hostile to the Palestinian people and to their aspiration for freedom, liberation, return and self-determination. The Israeli entity is the plaything of the Zionist project and its base of aggression." "The Zionist project also poses a danger to international security and peace and to mankind and its interests and stability."
Um. No, not really. They've decided to pretend they're separating Zionism from Judaism - "I'm not antisemitic, I'm just anti-Zionist!", but the message is the same.
"Hamas is of the view that the Jewish problem, anti-Semitism and the persecution of the Jews are phenomena fundamentally linked to European history and not to the history of the Arabs and the Muslims or to their heritage."
Uh, that's some major denial of literal history there, Hamas. Islamic and Arab countries have absolutely perpetrated violent antisemitism against Jewish people. Like, a lot of antisemitism.
So, through historical revisionism wherein they claim antisemitism is a "Europe" problem, and by pretending to separate "Zionists" from "Jews", the 2017 charter downplays its antisemitism and focuses more on Palestinian liberation. Notably though, it still calls for violent resistance, and though it cedes they would accept the 1967 borders (aka, full Palestinian control over Gaza and the West Bank), it states over and over that Israel is "illegal", and that it does not recognize it as a legitimate state. It does not, at any point, recognize that Jews are native to the region, of course. Zionists are "colonial invaders" and nothing more. It is more polite about its antisemitism, but the antisemitism is still very much present.

Tumblr media
the bingo card template ^^
(breakdown of each box under the cut)
IP brain: several arguments against AI art hinge on IP and copyright law: e.g., accusations of plagiarism or copyright infringement, navel-gazing wrt "ownership" of art, etc. this means nothing to anyone who doesn't believe in the virtue of copyright lol
all art is hobbyism: anti-AI types frequently pretend that all art is something done solely for fun and/or personally meaningful to the artist and/or not labour
the hands/teeth!!!!: a common argument against AI art is that the hands or teeth look uncanny or unrealistic (even though that's one of the coolest things about AI art lmao)
we NEED overworked animators. To Save Human Artists: many argue against the use of AI to automate more menial aspects of creative labour (e.g., background art in animation), even when the work in question is famously backbreaking. (animation is only an example, and this box can apply to other art-related jobs)
art requires intentionality: a bizarre and common argument--"AI art isn't art because real art is 'intentional'." ignores (a) that there are intentional aspects of AI art (even setting aside the formation of prompts, the decision to choose a generated result and share it publicly is an undeniably intentional one) and (b) that several other art forms (photography, documentary, collage, etc) also preclude artists from having that flavour of foundational "every-brush-stroke" control over the piece
art requires a financial transaction: "it's only real art if someone got paid for it" (in other words, the opposite of the all art is hobbyism argumetn. thank god for the consistency of the anti-AI movement o7)
hyper-conventional conception of what makes "good" art: the manner in which opponents of AI target perceived flaws in AI art (blurriness, spatial abnormality, "count the fingers!", etc) tends to betray deeply reactionary values wrt "good" art as art that pursues representational realism.
"techbros": "-bro" is a commonly used, ill-defined pejorative that generally means "any person the speaker doesn't like." opponents of AI tend to cast what they call "AI advocates" as "techbros" interchangeable with NFT shills. besides being implicitly gendering, it's also hilarious--which side in this debate is closer to saying "i own this image so you can't right click it"?
"soul"/"humanity": there are frequent pseudo-spiritual appeals to art (even corporate art, apparently!) as having an essential "soul", "humanity", or even "godliness" that AI art lacks. this is of course meaningless to people who don't see any value in spiritualism
motte & bailey/strawman: opponents of AI frequently switch gears whenever they get cornered--when they realize that "we need stronger copyright law" is an indefensible position, they say "well REAL art requires effort!!", and when they're defeated on THAT front too they switch to "well AI is making artists lose their jobs!" and they keep doing this ad nauseam instead of acknowledging the flaws in their arguments. really it's less motte & bailey and more bailey & bailey & bailey & bailey &
ableism: people critiquing AI frequently choose to be ableist for some reason. the most common trick is inspiration porn (i.e., "so-and-so disabled person learned to paint with their teeth, what's your excuse?!")
"stolen"/"theft": two of the three favourite words of the anti-AI crowd. even if you accept the fundamental IP-brain premise (which, to be clear, you shouldn't), a baseline knowledge of how training datasets work should still make claims of theft fall flat.
reactionary BS (free space): arguments against AI tend to rely on several foundationally reactionary concepts, be they luddism, copyright, or the ~essence of humanity~
(in)directly insults collage/readymades/photography/etc: a massive portion of diatribes against AI include arguments that also lock several other mediums (the above plus music sampling/covers, choreography, film direction, etc) out of "counting" as art. frankly, a massive portion of them are indistinguishable from the reactionary outrage against duchamp's fountain
"you know it's not even ACTUALLY AI right??": people love to point out that "AI" is a buzzword and that computer programs are not actually sentient, and then pretend they've done something
AI artists are immoral/lazy/etc: several pejoratives tend to come out. see also: stupid, talentless, heartless, abusive, etc
"collage": the third favourite word. to be clear, AI image generators are NOT "collage machines", and if they were, that would be a good thing
classism: another thing that jumps out frequently. right-wing ideas about labour and poverty abound
art requires effort: another bizarre idea--the implication that more effort = better art. surely by this logic the amount of labour hours behind Avengers 16 must make it the ultimate opus
"just commission an artist": an annoying adage
stealing jobs from artists: same argument as self-checkouts
childish insults directed at AI: lots of people love making juvenile jabs at the AI. there's no sweeter irony than seeing someone write a diatribe about how AI is Not Really A Person then act as if they've just humiliated it
petty bourgeois artists = underdog: a lot of commission fanartists are convinced that aligning themselves with (petty-)bourgeois interests is going to help them in the long run
acting like AI operates independently: everyone seems to think that no humans are even involved in the process and that AI generators just sit in a dark room operating themselves, spitting images into the void
no understanding of how machine learning works: self-explanatory. opponents of AI don't seem to even know the bare minimum about the subject they argue about
(also yes i do consider diagonals to be a bingo, i dont care if it's not proper lmao)

Happy Pride 🏳️‍🌈
I want to wish a Happy Pride to:
Violets, “the Lesbian flower”
Sappho (c. 630-c.570), the Greek poet who lived on the island of Lesbos, often referenced violets in her ancient poems, thus creating a connection with female love, and this coded association endured for centuries. In fact, in 1927 the New York City district attorney’s office shut down the Broadway play The Captive because a female character in the play sent a bunch of violets to another female character, creating a big scandal
Tumblr media
Crop Tops
Crop tops used to be associated with sports and were a popular option for manly, athletic men. However, the fashion of 1990′s and early 2000’s was dominated by loose and baggy clothing. Crop tops, which had once been viewed as hyper-masculine, came to be seen as more feminine and a fashion statement, which made straight men reject the crop tops and gay men embrace them.
Tumblr media
Pirates
Back in the Golden Era of Piracy (1650-1730s), homosexuality was highly stigmatized on land and illegal in most places. However, piracy was known for rejecting societal standards and expectations. Queer relationships at sea were not uncommon, and pirates even had their own form of domestic partnership called matelotage. If you want to learn more, there are many pirates to choose from, but you can start with these: Anne Bonny, Mary Read, John “Calico Jack” Rackham, and Pierre “the pansy pirate” Bouspet.
Tumblr media
Carabiners
Carabiners are a steel loop designed for rock climbers because they can easily be opened with one hand, which is useful when hanging on by the other hand. This practical tool for carrying around equipment was adopted by working-class people to carry keys. In World War II, a large number of women entered the workforce, and those who went into manual labor were usually more butch than femme. More traditionally feminine industries, like sewing or secretarial work, were closed to them due to their gender presentation. After the war, many women were reluctant to give up their new financial independence, and thus the carabiner is linked to female liberation and working-class aesthetics and this belt-side key chain came to be part of the lesbian style.
Tumblr media
Lavender
Lavender is used interchangeably with “rainbow” to mean “LGBTQ+” at events like Lavender Graduations and the annual Lavender Law Conference. It’s thought that lavender became code for gay because it’s created by mixing pink and blue—colors which are culturally connected to girls or boys—thus blurring the distinction of what is feminine or masculine. One sweet use of this color connection within the queer community is on Valentine’s Day, lavender roses are often the choice of LGBTQ+ partners.
Tumblr media
Lambda (the Greek letter)
In the early 1970′s, based on the recommendation of Tom Doerr, New York City’s Gay Activists Alliance chose as its symbol the Greek letter lambda, which looks like a lowercase “y” flipped upside down, because it’s used in science to represent kinetic energy. Kinetic energy is energy an object has due to its motion, thus making lambda a symbol of change. For example, Lambda Legal works for positive change to the legal status of queer people
Tumblr media
Ace playing cards
Due to the word “asexual” being commonly shortened to “ace,” this led to a play on words by ace playing cards coming to represent asexuality. The ace of hearts and ace of spades are used to symbolize being aromantic and asexual respectively.
Tumblr media
Undercuts
Queer people find ways to challenge heteronormativity, whether it’s gay men bleaching their hair blonde or lesbians rejecting the association of long hair with womanhood. Short hair has become associated with lesbians, whether it’s a bob, a brightly-colored close crop, and most iconically the undercut which is a hairstyle that leaves the top part of the hair medium length or long but has one or both sides and/or the back of the head shaved closely
Tumblr media
Brunch
Brunch is THE gay meal and for a number of reasons. There was a time that brunch wasn’t viewed as respectable, but rather was a meal for those who’d stayed out late partying. Bucking tradition is a queer tradition and so brunch is a natural. On Sundays, brunch exists at a time many people are at church, and it’s a great use of that time for queer people who chose to leave churches that reject them. Gay spaces were generally bars and clubs which are usually nighttime spaces, but brunch was radical as a place gays could gather and be themselves in the daylight. Historically, queer people found it more difficult to secure gainful employment, and brunch is a bargain, usually half the price of dinner, so it makes sense the queer community flocked to a meal that was more affordable. Brunch is more casual than a proper breakfast or dinner and therefore is often accompanied by fun conversation and gossip. Brunch offers a greater variety of food options than the typical meal, there’s something for everyone. Could anything be more queer than variety & acceptance?
Tumblr media
Ms. Frizzle
In the 1990s, the popular children‘s television show “The Magic School Bus” featured a teacher, Ms. Frizzle, who was never confirmed to be queer, but she was definitely queer coded, such as her quirky fashion style of mismatched brightly-colored patterns & those big earrings. She bucked gender norms by being a woman teaching STEM topics, and having a love of adventure. Another clue is she wasn’t married at a time when gay marriage was not legal. Also, the character was voiced by lesbian actress Lily Tomlin.
Tumblr media
Women’s Hockey
Women’s hockey has a joyous history of lesbian players who are visible. In 2017, Caroline Ouellette and Julie Chu—former captains of the Canada and US ice hockey teams—welcomed their newborn daughter into the world. The following year Meghan Duggan, the captain of the US women’s Olympic ice hockey team, married her girlfriend Gillian Apps, who played for Team Canada, and they had faced each other in the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympic finals. Dating & marrying your opponents, lesbians are setting the example for World Peace
Tumblr media
BLÅHAJ
Blåhaj—pronounced blaw-high—translates simply as "blue shark" in English, and is a toy introduced by IKEA in 2014. The blueish body, white underbelly, and pink mouth are the trans flag colors. There’s so few things designed and marketed for trans people, that it’s delightful they latched onto this cute and cuddly plush shark
Tumblr media
Keith Haring art
Keith Haring was an American pop artist who advocated for safe sex and AIDS awareness through his images. In 1988, Haring designed the logo for National Coming Out Day, which is still used today. A year later, he established the Keith Haring Foundation to provide funding to AIDS organizations. He died in February 1990 of AIDS-related complications. His distinctive and instantly recognizable style came to define the 1990′s
