okay so I saw @jade-of-mourning’s post about how makorra would make bomb yuri and I am 100% in agreement so,, how I imagine tlok would go if mako was a girl.

I feel like this would totally affect mako’s backstory n stuff too because life on the street is rough for any kids but like. little girls with no one to run to surrounded by creepy criminal guys. not great! so not only would that add an extra layer of trauma, but I feel like it would also add dimension to mako+zolt’s dynamic when mako and bolin worked w the triads. like, instead of firebending gang leader who wants to shape a mini-me he found into his successor, it’s. hold on let me make another sentence. it’s a girl who’s learned to protect herself and a man she needs to defend herself from offering to teach her better. so there’s less of the straightforwardness of their canon interactions—mako knows she’s being exploited but is willing to play into it to take advantage of learning zolt’s skills and zolt knows she’s clever but wants her close. idk how fucked up zolt would be, but he could probably have some motivations related to trafficking as a backup should mako turn on him that would’ve been less viable with canon mako. idk. thoughts are thinking too quickly for me to type rn.

I’m not gonna go through everything in tlok for the sake of not yapping for 12 hrs like i did in my 100yr war mako post but through the four books in the context of makorra i imagine it would go:

b1: weirdgirl firebender who’s a control freak becomes the avatar’s best friend. she’s totally not in love btw. and there’s literally no jealousy at all when asami befriends korra either cause they’re just chill. just friends, how friends are, yk. amon is a freak but part of her is relieved he took zolt’s bending. thought the thought of her getting her bending taken away feels like a part of her autonomy being taken and that’s terrifying so she’s relieved when he fucking dies.

b2: from what I recall team avatar is more split up during b2 and do you know what that means. so much pining. it smells like a forest with the amount of longing bro. then mako gets arrested and prison as we all know is such a friendly environment for women so. more trauma. then harmonic convergence happens at that is absolutely when makorra realize they’re in loooove. then vaatu happens and it’s like ohhh shit I’m in deeeep.

b3: new airbenders yay! mako is distracted from korra a little bit when she and bolin meet their long lost extended family, until dear old grammy says that korra would make a fine husband for her granddaughter if she were a man. and cue gay panic cause DOES SHE KNOW???? HOW??? I’m being intentionally vague cause I last watched this show like five years ago and I don’t remember the timeline at all but bear with me. airbenders in ba sing se are freed, krew makes their way over to zaofu to meet opal. this is cool it’s fine. lin is literally mako’s mom and she’s still worried the whole time they’re on zaofu. korra is kidnapped. prison for mako and bolin (again). m+b search the desert for korrasami, it’s all mostly the same except more. yk. gay pining. korra is poisoned but the girls have a girl moment on air temple island after Jinora gets her tattoos :3

b4: korra travels for a while, before returning to rc. then she’s gone again to the swamp. kuvira attacks zaofu, korra defends, and then she’s back. mako and asami are. yeah. blah blah blah that one episode of makorra reminiscing gets really gay, kuvira tries to take over rc, mako lightning-zaps the mech and almost dies and then BOOM. they kiss after the battle. and the lesbians win once again as makorra walk into the spirit world hand in hand.

if you’re wondering why this was written so disjointedly it’s because I kept getting distracted mid-sentence. and I also hate how the romance was dealt with in canon, but it’s such a big part of b1 (my favorite book minus romance) and the repercussions lasted throughout all four seasons so obviously that I physically cannot bring myself to rewatch it. and girls are so. thank u lychee ur really super awesome and cool for drawing makorra as girls because I think they would’ve worked out in canon if mako was a girl. sorry I’m really sick rn and I’m a little out of it lmao 😭🙏🏼

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks...

Oh my gosh this is impossible, I like too much and I'm the most indecisive motherfucker. I actually agonized over this, like this is so broad I was trying to think of everything I've ever liked, and what do you mean by favorite, and do I like the story because of the characters or the narrative, and how much do I like them now vs. how much I used to like them. I was doing way too much.

Basically, this is a list (loosely ordered) of my favorite characters (probably) right NOW, either based in recency bias, or in their lasting ability to remain a favorite years later A.K.A. characters that altered my brain chemistry because I'm insane about them:

Yuri Plisetsky - Yuri!!! On Ice

Yuri Plisetsky is my favorite of all time. If the rest of the list isn't quite in order, he's still at the top every time. There are some characters that just click for you and he's one of them. You're gonna start seeing a pattern here with some of these characters so it might just be that I have a type, but either way I love him like he's me. I love to put him in situations. I love to explore his character. I love to imagine his future. And I love his lil face. He's just so determined, and so angry, and I adore him and all his flaws.

2. Otabek Altin - Yuri!!! On Ice

Now listen, he's not a major character, he doesn't have a lot of screen time, but he made a huge, huge impact. It's not a coincidence that I love Yuri P so much, Otabek is so high because of Yuri P. But ultimately, he's one of my all time favorites because of a version of him that exists in fanfiction and fanon. Specifically, I love Otabek because of "From Almaty, With Love", my favorite fic of all time. I love to inhabit his mind, but also I just love him. He's the type of guy who's nothing like me, but I wish I was more like him. Also, I'm just a sucker for the strong and silent type.

3. Megumi Fushiguro - Jujutsu Kaisen

Current biggest projection target. Oh my god how this lil guy has taken over my mind. I watched JJK for the first time in December, but I don't think I really got insane about Megumi until I read the manga and... just check out my tag #megumi fushiguro's gay little hands. He's just so compelling to me. I just love a grumpy teen. I love a troubled little guy. I love how out of touch with his emotions he is. I love that he's insane. I want to put him in every possible situation and see what he does. He's my favorite, I don't know what to say.

4. Ahsoka Tano - Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Ahsoka!!! I love her so much!!!!! It's been a while since I watched The Clone Wars, and I'm off the Star Wars hundred million franchise properties train right now, so I haven't watched the new show, and I probably won't because I like her just the way she is in Clone Wars and I don't need any more. She's the coolest girl, she pulls like crazy, she's some variety of lesbian, she's a skilled fighter, she has a great personality, and she's a brown girl for brown girls. Like, little boys get cool characters they can latch onto all the time, she's that for me. Love her forever.

5. Zuko - Avatar: The Last Airbender

Ahhhhh, Zuko. I'm gonna try to be normal about him. Best redemption arc ever written in any media ever. He's just so lovable. You get to know him even a little bit early on in the series (The Storm) and it's just...OH. You start to understand. And it just grows and grows from there. He's a sympathetic character (The Blue Spirit), but you don't pity him because you're with him every step of the way as he has to grow and fight through all the pain and conflict inside him (Bitter Work, The Avatar and The Firelord). And he makes the worst mistakes. He makes the wrong choices (Crossroads of Destiny). And he has to earn every little bit of his redemption. And he does. What an incredible character. One of the most iconic voices of all time (Dante Basco, I love you). Also, I just love him. "Hey, Zuko here!" He will always have my heart.

6. Yuuri Katsuki - Yuri!!! On Ice

It is actually impossible for me to pick only two pictures of Yuri Katsuki because he's just so precious in every single one in completely different ways. I wasn't sure at first if I was going to put him on this list because Yuri P dominates my thoughts around YOI so much. But I don't love Yuri On Ice because of Yuri P. When I'm actually in a rewatch, Yuri Katsuki reminds me how much I love and adore him and how much he really means to me. Discovering Yuri, and everything he doesn't show you through his unreliable narrator ass as the show goes on is so so special. And nothing in that show could make me fall in love with figure skating the way "Yuri on Ice" and "On Love: Eros" did. My 2017 Spotify Wrapped was 90% YOI music because I used to fall asleep to "Yuri on Ice" on repeat. I love him so much. He means so much to me. That's all I can say.

7. Rue Bennett - Euphoria

She is me. I am her. This is less about her character, and more about how she allows me to see myself and be seen. My weakest parts. My most painful parts. The worst experiences of my life. I don't think I've ever related to a character or what they have gone through more than I have with Rue. I don't think I've ever related to a character's flaws and worst moments more than I have with Rue. Say what you will about Euphoria, I don't care. It's so important to me because of Rue. At least....Season 1 is.

8. Effy Stonem - Skins (UK)

Are we starting to see the patterns here? Effy Stonem is THE original indie sleaze girl. I wanted to be her sooooo bad. I wanted to be her in Gen 1 (I loved Effy Stonem before Gen 2, I'm not like other girls. lmao, anyway...) Skins was a very formative piece of media for me. There is no world where I love Euphoria without having loved Skins first. Skins and Effy made me want to go to raves in Bristol, wear ripped tights, take MDMA, smoke spliffs and cigarettes 24/7... it was actually such a bad influence, but it means a lot to me. I loved Effy from her first appearance on screen, and I loved her until her last. Kaya Scodelario you will always be famous.

9. Ash Lynx - Banana Fish

Ash Lynx is one of the most complicated and compelling characters I have ever seen. I had a hard time deciding to include him because I don't feel like you can divorce Ash the character from Banana Fish the story, or from Eiji and their relationship. Do I love him as his own character, or do I love Banana Fish in its entirety? But I do love him. He's very special to me. Banana Fish is about him. It's a love letter to him, in a way. You can't love Banana Fish without loving Ash, everyone around Ash loves Ash, even the horrible people who want to claim him. His pain and trauma is so overwhelming, but you as the audience can see the person he is through all of that even if he can't, and you just want him to find happiness and see it for himself someday. And be safe for the first time in his life. A tragic hero who really shouldn't have been in a tragedy. An unfair tragedy. He deserves the world.

10. Kyo Sohma - Fruits Basket

At this point you have to be seeing the pattern. I love a well-written grumpy boy. And I love Kyo Sohma so, so much. I watched 2001 right before 2019 and let me tell you, the vidication... I was absolutely in love with 2001 Kyo, but I didn't want to get my hopes up. He was my little shojo crush, it was fine if he wasn't Tohru's. Then I popped on 2019, and he had the SAME VOICE ACTOR!?!?!? Bro, the way I melted. And then the show went on and I noticed he was being framed a little different than he was in 2001???? I mean, if you want my whole watch through check my #fruits basket 2019 tag. I had a whole journey. Let's be so honest, Kyo is on here because I'm in love with him. But also, he's an amazing character with so much deep turmoil from really really difficult circumstances, and he still manages to be caring and attentive and kind, along with a million other amazing character traits. Most character of all time. I love him so much.

BONUS (Characters I can't believe didn't make this list):

The Entire Skins Gen 1 Main Cast (who I love more than Effy, but I can't pick just one favorite), Suguru Geto (who's creeping up on me more and more as I dive deeper into his character), Eiji Okumura (the other half of AshEiji, and just the sweetest boy alive who's also the biggest ride-or-die I love him), and Victor Nikiforov (out of the YOI cast, he's my least most favorite, but I love him so much and his lil heart mouth. He's a star, he is the moment, give him his flowers).

Zukka (Zuko/Sokka), from Avatar the last airbender : they're simply idiots in love. I'm not sure I can explain why I love them so much. I think they're beautiful together and that their personalities complete each others.

SuguSato (Gojo Satoru/Geto Suguru) from Jujutsu Kaisen : AH. I won't talk about them or else I'll be writing all night. They're my current hyperfixation (since 2 years). I already made too much posts about them. They smart and idiots in the same time, they're kids who are learning how to love, they're the definition of bromance, the incarnation of gay/bi panic & awareness.

BokuAka (Bokuto Kotaro/Akaashi Keiji) AND KuroKen (Kuroo Tetsurou/Kenma Kozume), from Haikyuu : yes I have to put both because I am not able to choose only one. I know they're in highschool but they're just married. They're two married couples. They're soulmates. They are perfect for each other. They love each other so fucking much it's overwhelming. It's a captain/setter relationship that is so pure and wholesome. They're not even in the same year yet they fit each other perfectly. Also, they're sexy.

Karushuu (Akabane Karma/Asano Gakushuu), from Assassination Classroom : they're just the whole Enemies to Lovers trope for highschoolers and it's so fucking hilarious to imagine them flirting and bickering at the same time. I can imagine them in so many situations, and that's why I keep writing fanfiction about them. They have the exact same personality but just, slightly to the left, and that somehow makes them total opposite. Yet the relationship works.

EraserMic (Aizawa Shouta/Yamada Hizashi) from My Hero Academia : married couple too but they are adults and they also might have adopted a kid (Eri) or 20 (the entire 1-A + Hitoshi). It's the Sunshine/Moonlight trope, one hyperactive extravert in love with the tired emo introvert, and they work very well together. I also write fanfic about them. I had a 4 year long hyperfixation on them.

AziraCrow (Aziraphale/Crowley) from Good Omens : I don't need to say anything, just watch the show. It's on Amazon Prime. Alright, okay, I will say one thing : Genderqueer In Love.

Stucky (Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes), from the MCU : It has been a while since I've read or saved anything about them but I will never forget how much I love them. I will never NOT be mad about the queerbait. They are in love till the end of the line, they cannot be separated, they are a whole pack yet Marvel put them apart. Just, let them be together, I'm begging you.

So I wanted to talk about how some of my "fictional father" rules and ideas work.

First up: What characters from what fandoms would make good fathers? (Sorry it's a long list. Also, if you're wondering why certain antagonists' were listed, there's more explanation further down).

Fandom: Naruto. Characters: Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, Gaara, Yamato, Gai, Neji, Shikamaru, Iruka, Jiraiya, Itachi, Obito, Orochimaru, and Zabuza.

Fandom: One Piece. Characters: All of the Mugiwara crew, Trafalgar, Kid, Ace, Sabo, Crocodile, Doflamingo, Lucci, Smoker, Katakuri, the Akazaya Nine, Shanks, Buggy, Marco, and Rayleigh. (I could honestly write almost every character on here as a parent figure, but the list would be way too long).

Fandom: Jujutsu Kaisen. Characters: Lol, all of them.

Fandom: Attack on Titan. Characters: Eren, Armin, Levi, Jean, Reiner, Levi and Erwin.

Fandom: Black Clover. Characters: Umm... All of them? This fandom is beyond rich with potential parent figures, don't even get me started.

Fandom: Guardians of The Galaxy. Characters: Quill, Drax, Rocket, and Yondu.

Fandom: Marvel. Characters: Tony, Thor, Steve, Bucky, Bruce, Scott, Loki, Clint, and Sam.

Fandom(s): DreamWorks and Disney. Characters: Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, Bruno Madrigal, Grug Crood, Death the Wolf. (And a whole bunch of others.)

Fandom: Criminal Minds. Characters: Spencer, Derek, David, Matthew, and Luke.

Fandom(s): Alien movies like Predator, Avatar, or Transformers for some extra flavor and diversity.

Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender. Characters: Aang, Sokka, Zuko, Iroh, and Jet.

Fandom: 911 and 911 Lone Star. Characters: All of them. Every main character within these two fandoms is amazing.

Why are certain antagonists listed?

Well that's because I'm obsessed with bad guys and I love imagining them in scenarios where they are actually good. Antagonists in general are very powerful, crazy and frightening, but if you keep those attributes and turn them into good people with good intentions, they make for some pretty awesome, likable parent figures.

So if I ever write an antagonist as a parent figure, just know that I'm intentionally making them good for the benefit of the reader-inserts and the drabbles. But, hey, if you wanna read and imagine them the way they originally are, then by all means I support you.

I obviously have father figures covered, but what about mother figures?

There are lots of female characters I love, but I primarily want to focus on the males just because that is my preference. However, on down the road I do see myself writing mother drabbles. I wouldn't mind. And, considering the circumstances of the reader-inserts, a mother figure might be more suited for the plot. You never know.

What will the reader-inserts be like?

For reader-inserts under the age of twelve, I will display it in the title as "child!reader".

For reader-inserts over the age of twelve, I will display it in the title as "teen!reader".

For child reader plots, I plan for them to be mostly fluffy and light-hearted. You know, young kids are curious, they're inexperienced, they're clumsy, they get scared, they get bullied, and so on and so forth. There's lots of topics and plots I can create for child reader-inserts.

For teen reader plots, things might get a little bit more angsty. As we all know, teenage years are absolutely insane. Teenagers are rebellious, they're curious, they're discovering their own sexuality, they're going through puberty, and they're trying new, dangerous and some times risky things. Teenagers are also very, VERY emotional, and under certain circumstances they can really struggle with anxiety, depression, social stability, loneliness and a whole bunch of other stuff. Of course there will be fluff in these drabbles, but also some light angst here and there.

For the most part the reader will be portrayed as the biological child of the character, but I do plan on writing lots of adoption stuff too.

The father figures won't always be perfect.

As we all probably know, parents are anything but perfect. They make mistakes. Lots and lots of mistakes. And sometimes parents don't care that they make mistakes, nor do they ever try to right their wrongs and apologize. Some parents don't even want to accept nor understand their child. (I'm sure some of you know what I mean).

But whereas these fictional father figures may make mistakes, they also try to fix those mistakes and right their wrongs. That's what I plan to accomplish with my father drabbles. I want to create loving, supportive, understanding father figures who are willing to do anything for their child. Because when you're a kid and you struggle with life, a loving parent is all you really want.

What about characters who are too young to have kids?

So an example for this would be any character that is around the age of 15-25 like Luffy. Well there are two simple solutions to this. Either I'll age up the characters or I'll say that the reader is adopted. It kind of just depends on what the drabble calls for.

Why am I doing this?

Well if you're like me and you had a rough childhood, then you just kind of want to reimagine yourself in a scenario where you're happy, accepted, catered, loved, protected, safe and cared for. I just want this to be something akin to a safe place for people to come and find joy and peace in the drabbles that I create.

Mild disclaimer: I know I have a lot of characters in mind to write for, but the process of my updates may be slow-going sometimes because I do have a full time job and annoying adult responsibilities. I try to write whenever I can. If updates seem slow, just know that I'm sorry and that I'm trying my hardest to supply you with all the fictional father goodness you crave.

Lapis Lazuli: Waterbending Master

Second finished drawing of my "turning my gay crush characters into benders" this time it's Lapis as (drumroll) a Waterbender! Such * peak, originality I know. Who could have seen this coming? Jokes aside this was a fun challenge, it was cool designing a new Water Tribe outfit for Lappy and I learned a little more how to use other brushes like Water, Hard Rain, and Dove Lake for doing the water spout. Will admit, not a very fun thing to try to make a monochromatic drawing like this pop out but I think it came out around how I had been imagining. Also one thing I forgot to mention in the last post was that I came up with little backstories for the AU. Some like Lapis and Michiko I don't have much on, but basically Lapis I was thinking would obviously be a Waterbending Master from the Southern Water Tribe. I was debating on potentially making her a Bloodbender and having some of the events parallel SU's Lapis and Jasper, or her being falsely accused of one and being locked up, paralleling Lapis being trapped in the mirror. Tbh I've been a little hesitant with either of these because I know Lapis was a controversial character, but I've been fascinated with the concept of bloodbending since I've rewatched the Puppetmaster. Anyways hope you guys are having a good weekend! (Also it's so weird I saw Way of Water today haha…that was an awesome movie)! (Lapis Lazuli belongs to Cartoon Network/Rebecca Sugar, Avatar the Last Airbender belongs to Nickelodeon).

Molly tried her best. When Harry had told them, Arthur had asked excitedly, "is this a Muggle thing?" Hermione had hurried out a "no!" and a frantic history of gender diversity in the wizarding world.

"It's just that I'm a girl," Harry had said, and Arthur had nodded and asked her about how telephone booths worked. He would call her by the right pronouns until the day he died at the respectable old age of one hundred and thirty three, and he would make it seem easy.

But Molly had to try. Hermione explained things faster and higher-pitched every time Molly messed up a pronoun. Molly frowned and muttered and put extra potatoes on Harry's plate at breakfast. Harry slept in Ron's room, which didn't bother either of them but which made Hermione scowl.

Harry got boxes of sweets and warm hugs, as Molly chewed things over. For her fifteenth Christmas, the Weasley sweater she would receive would be a bright, friendly, terrible pink.

The next time Harry visited, Molly put her on Ginny's floor to sleep-- for some definition of sleep that involved Hermione hissing threats at three in the morning if Harry and Ginny didn't "shut up about Wronski feints, do you know what time it is."

imagine– we have this kid on the train, the first friend harry meets, with his corned beef sandwiches and smudged nose. ron is eleven years old and he wants gryffindor, because he’s a weasley and that’s what always happens. but it doesn’t happen.

what a way to redeem slytherin house– or, god, at least complicate it. because ron is petty. he is mean and sharp and ambitious and jealous– and he is loyal to the ends of the earth. he is all those things, and he is and always has been good.

potter becomes before weasley in the alphabet, so harry says not slytherin please and gets told might as well be gryffindor. percy and fred and george are all sitting there in red and gold, ruffling the already-ruffled hair of the boy who lived, smug, and then ron sits down and the hat spits out slytherin!

When kids in the Slytherin Common Room tossed jeers at the pudgy feet of Millicent Bulstrode, Harry rose up to do something about it. This Harry, now one of Snape’s own, got fewer House points lost but many more detentions– it had never been the colors on his hem that Severus hated.

This was not wishing Harry an easy path. This was not wishing the boy a warm House. This was Harry, three weeks in, sleep deprived and considering running away and going back to Privet Drive. This was Harry in the back of Potions class, blank-faced under Snape’s disdain the way he’d perfected under the Dursleys’s torments.

When Quirrell shouted “troll in the dungeons, thought you ought to know,” and Harry overheard that there was a girl in the bathroom crying, he still ran off to make sure she got out okay. He hesitated first, at the back of the little pack of Slytherin first years (at the back so that no one could get behind him)– he hesitated.

And Millicent Bulstrode, who could never quite keep her tummy tucked in enough, could never brush all the cat hair off her robes, never quite keep her temper in check, hesitated, too.

Entertainment Spotlight: Briggon Snow

Briggon Snow is a Los Angeles-based actor, writer and creator, originally from South Portland, Maine. He is known for voicing Caleb Michaels in The Bright Sessions and The College Tapes, and roles in The Big Loop (Podcast), Seal Team (CBS), Game Shakers (Nickelodeon) and Masters of Sex (Showtime).

Can you share any fun facts about the making of The Bright Sessions and/or The College Tapes that fans would be surprised to find out?

Oh boy. I was just wracking my brain on this and struggling™. “Should I mention the obvious: That we did this remotely? Talk about those challenges?” And then moments ago my husband stepped out onto our balcony where I was staring at my laptop, read this question, and made a very cheeky suggestion. So here we go:

Everyone loves kissing in audio, right? *crickets* No? Only some of you? Well, I know it’s a hot-button topic, but when it comes to squishy romance feelings I’m here for it, I’ll admit. And well, we recorded this in a pandemic, so...no kissing allowed. And how did we get around that? Well, as one of our illustrious and poor defenseless audio designers got to e̶x̶p̶e̶r̶i̶e̶n̶c̶e̶ suffer through...I sent over “roll-the-tape” recordings of me pulling my husband into my home recording booth to - essentially - makeout for all of your enjoyment/cringes. Now...who’s kissing in The College Tapes? You’ll have to wait and hear (again sorry) because...well...reasons...

If you could have a conversation with Caleb, what would you want to talk about?

I’d love to go on trail with him or go camping and just talk about...feelings. I know the feelings/emotions thing is a constant for him so this is a little on the nose - but in playing Caleb and now writing for him too - I was challenged to submerge myself in my heart and mind and body and meditate with the emotions that pass me by every day. Lauren’s writing gave me a roadmap to identify and place things within myself outside of recording (a gift I’ll never be able to repay). And in these last five years I’ve found myself endlessly fascinated with human emotionality and our awareness or lack thereof and how we move throughout life in relationship with the things we feel. I’d love to look Caleb in the eyes and have us be unabashedly open with each other; the good, the bad, the everything.

Do you have a memory from college or young adulthood that you think would make a good College Tapes scene or episode?

It’s funny. I pulled on so many memories and feelings from my time at college. There’s one particular story involving greek life and my freshman roommate that I absolutely stole when writing my episodes. But I have one memory that’s so...nothing really...but so powerful in my life that I’d like to share...

My best friend in college ended up showing me Avatar: The Last Airbender, and when we’d watch it in his dorm, we would naturally smoosh up on his bed and cuddle under a blanket. And for me, a gay kid - just cuddling up with my straight best friend because we loved each other - and it not being weird or joked about when our friends were around - meant - like - everything to me.

Again, not a big crazy college memory. But let’s hear it for the straight boys out there dismantling toxic masculinity one soft action at a time!

If you could be Atypical in real life, would you want to be? If yes, what powers do you think that you would have?

I want to be an Atypical! I’d love to be able to communicate with anyone (+ animals) regardless of language. I want to know people. I love meeting people. I think one of the greatest privileges of being an actor is that we’re thrown together with other folks who (if it’s going right) open themselves up to you and participate in a created intimacy to seek understanding. More than anything, I’m curious and want to be influenced by other perspectives in this life - and the idea of being able to connect with and learn from a person in Morocco or even an Orca Whale off the coast of Washington is *heart eyes*.

Do you have any headcanons (something that you believe to be true that isn’t explicitly stated) about Caleb?

I don’t know if I’m going against actual canon here. After 5 years it’s hard to keep track of what’s in what episode in The Bright Sessions universe. But I’ve always imagined Caleb as a closet master chef of sorts. I think he learned to cook out of necessity growing up; odd hours for practices and games and his parents being a little scattered. And I think by college, Caleb is super impressive in the kitchen. The kitchen - like the gym or sport or nature - is one of his churches.

Can you share your favorite piece of The Bright Sessions fan art?

There have been so many incredible pieces of fan art over the years and I’ve loved them all. It’s wild how transformative fandoms can be. You never know what aspect of a character or a story is going to take hold in a person’s imagination, and all of the different headcanons and pieces of art our strange and unusual family has shared over the years continues to be my favorite part of being in the cast of The Bright Sessions.

I’ve always adored Grayson’s imagining of Caleb and Adam. Grayson is one of my very favorite artists ever; so much so that I eventually - nervously - reached out, and now he and I have started work on a little project of our own. And I love that. We all get to (and I think have the responsibility to if we can) inspire each other with what we put out into the world. It’s call and answer and it makes for the best stuff.

The house is large, two stories tall and painted a soft gray with white trim around the windows. Holiday lights have yet to be taken down and shine in all colors of the rainbow from the eaves as the camera crew walks up the front steps. The curtains in the window tremble for a moment, then a dog pokes her head through—she is all-black and curious, and looks quite large.

Dorcas Meadowes knocks on the front door; a moment later, it swings open and reveals Sirius Black. “Hey, guys, come on in! You can leave your shoes by the door inside.”

“Thanks, Sirius.” Dorcas kicks off her flats and follows him inside as he sets a dish towel on the end table and leans against it. “How are you today?”

“I’m doing pretty well. Morning practice was productive and I’m feeling good about our upcoming game.”

“We’re here today to ask you 73 rapid-fire questions while you lead us around. Sound good?”

“Sounds good. You can all come inside instead of freezing on the porch,” he laughs, waving them closer. The door shuts with a gentle click.

“First question: on a scale of 1-10, how excited are you about life right now?”

“Hmmm. A solid seven.”

“Do you have any pets?”

“I do!” Sirius leads them into the other room, where the dog is curled up on the couch below the window; he picks her up and gives her a kiss on the head. “This is Hattie and I love her very much.”

“Cute! If you could do a dramatic love scene in a movie with anyone, who would it be?”

Sirius sets the dog down and thinks for a second. “Aside from my fiancé, I’m going to say James Potter. We would kill it and I don’t think it would be that awkward.”

“What’s the origin of your name?”

“Pretty much my whole family has star-themed names. Sirius is the dog star from Canis Major.”

“Brightest star in the sky, too. What’s one thing people don’t know about you?”

“I’m an introvert. Lots of people assume that I’m super social because of my job, but I’m very quiet in real life.” He walks back out to the entrance and takes the towel off the table, then moves into the kitchen. It’s well-lit and painted a deep, warm red. The countertop is scattered with knickknacks and picture frames—clearly, this is a place people spend a lot of time. Hattie, who followed them in, lays down by the oven with a heavy sigh.

“What’s your wakeup ritual?”

Sirius reaches up and pulls two mugs out of the cupboard. “I wake up around seven am and make coffee while Re is in the shower, then rinse off and get dressed while he makes breakfast. It’s a good system. Want some tea?”

“Sure. What’s your bedtime ritual?”

“I don’t think I have one,” he says as he puts the kettle on and ignites a burner on the stove. “Usually we read or watch a movie, then go up to bed and talk for a while. There’s not a big routine or anything.”

“Sounds nice. What’s your favorite time of day?” Dorcas sits on the other side of the kitchen island while he takes a box of peppermint tea down.

“That’s a tough one. I like the in-between spots, like just after sunrise or dusk. Three in the afternoon is usually pretty chill as well. Does anyone else want a cup?”

There are a few murmurs behind the camera and he takes two more down. “What is one thing no one knows about you?” Dorcas asks.

He raises an eyebrow. “If I told you, everyone would know, and it wouldn’t count.”

“Fair enough. Dream country to visit?”

“Anywhere. I think I want to go to Ireland first, though.” Small wisps of steam begin curling out of the kettle, but it doesn’t whistle.

“Do you ever feel pressure to post things on social media?”

Sirius makes a face. “I used to. Eventually I just got tired of it, you know? The whole point of social media is sharing bits of your life with people and it makes me happy to show off my dog, or Re, or my friends. I post things just for fun now.”

The kettle begins to hiss and he reaches back to turn it off. “Sneakers or skates?”

“Skates.”

“Vintage or new?

“Vintage, especially for t-shirts and sweaters.”

“Who is your biggest role model?”

“Pascal Dumais.” Sirius stops pouring for a moment to look up at the camera. “If you ever get a chance to meet him, listen to what he has to say. You’ll be better for it.”

“Wise words. How do you deal with negativity? Oh, thank you.” Dorcas wraps her hands around the mug and takes a small sip while Sirius passes the other ones to the crew.

“Honestly? I don’t give a shit. It used to really bother me, but I’m happy, I have a job I love, and my family cares about me. Why should I care what people I’ve never met think of me?” He sits on the counter and rests his elbows on his knees, blowing on the hot water.

“What are three things you can’t live without?”

“My dog, Remus, and my family.” There is no hesitation in his voice.

“Not hockey?”

“I’d be devastated if I couldn’t play, sure, but it’s not the central focus of my life anymore.”

“What’s one ingredient you put in everything?”

“Does salt count?” He winces as he takes a drink. “Ugh, burned my tongue. I put salt on a lot of things because I drink so much water that it throws my balance off.”

“What is something you’re completely bored of right now?”

Sirius rolls his eyes. “Gossip columns and tabloids in general.”

Dorcas hums in agreement. “What’s your biggest fear in life?”

“Losing my loved ones.”

“Window or aisle seat?”

“Window. Anyone walking by always steps on my foot or hits my elbow if I’m in the aisle. Plus, I get a good view and an easy nap spot.”

“What’s your current TV obsession?”

“Avatar: The Last Airbender, which I’m watching for the third time already.” He shakes his head. “It’s just so good.”

“Favorite app?”

He takes a second to think. “Spotify.”

“Secret talent?”

Sirius looks at her over the rim over his cup. “This is going to shock you. Ready?”

“Ready.”

“Hockey.”

“You’re the worst.” Despite her words, Dorcas smiles. “What the most adventurous thing you’ve done in your life?”

“Uh, probably going to Europe with some of the guys last year. We had a lot of fun, but it was crazy.”

“I can imagine it was. How would you define yourself in three words?”

“Tall, dark, and handsome.”

“And apparently not humble,” Dorcas teases. “Favorite piece of clothing?”

“Hoodies.”

“Clothing item everyone should have?”

“Hoodies.”

A door opens behind them and the camera turns; Remus walks out of the basement, covered in sweat as he wipes his forehead with the hem of his shirt and holds his skates in his other hand. “Baby, have you seen…” he trails off when he sees the group of people in the kitchen. Hattie’s tail thumps on the floor. “Um. Hello.”

“Hey, Remus, how are you doing?” Dorcas asks mildly.

The camera pans out to catch both Sirius, who is laughing quietly, and Remus, who flushes pink. “I’m good. I thought you were coming at ten?”

“It’s ten-thirty, sweetheart,” Sirius says, hiding his smile in his tea.

Remus glances at the clock before giving an awkward nod and walking toward the stairs. “I guess I’ll take a shower, then. Sorry about that. Uh, carry on.”

“What’s a superpower you would want?” Dorcas asks as soon as he disappears.

Sirius shakes his head with a grin. “Uh, teleportation. That would be really cool.”

“What’s inspiring you in life right now?”

“Ah, une grande question.” He thinks, then tilts his head toward the staircase. “Moments like that. And the Stanley Cup, of course.” He reaches back and knocks on the wooden cupboard.

“What cause is closest to your heart?”

“LGBT+ rights, especially trans rights. I’m privileged enough to have a platform and I intend to be loud as hell about that.”

“Good.” Dorcas sets her almost-empty mug on the table. “What’s one thing you’d say to your teenage self?”

Sirius lets out a long breath and drums his hands on the light blue ceramic of his cup. “I would say…it gets better. It really, really does. You’re going to feel super shitty for just a little bit longer, but then I promise you will be so incredibly happy that you wake up every morning and it hits you all over again.”

Dorcas nods, and the kitchen is quiet for a moment. “What’s a book that everyone should read?”

“The Hobbit, by J.R.R Tolkien.”

“What would you like to be remembered for?”

“This is going to sound so corny, but I want to be remembered for just being a good person.”

“That’s not corny. How do you define beauty?”

“Remus Lupin.”

“That’s corny,” she laughs, making him smile. “What do you love most about your body?”

“I’m a big guy, which can be a little bit intimidating, but it means I give really great hugs. I’m sure everyone saw the video that went around a while ago.”

“Cap Cuddles?”

He snorts. “Right. You’ve got Finn O’Hara to thank for that.”

“In your opinion, what’s the best way to take a rest or decompress?”

“Being alone,” Sirius says. “There is literally nothing better than getting home and sitting down with a book or something while I can hear Re doing his own thing and Hattie’s napping. It’s one of my favorite parts of the afternoon.”

“That’s the most introverted thing you’ve ever said.” Dorcas grins and finishes her tea just as a faint beeping noise begins in another room. “What’s your favorite way to experience art?”

“Through music, for sure.” He slides off the counter and walks down the hall, leading them toward the laundry room. He gives the camera crew a look as he pulls dry clothes out of the machine and heads back to the living room. “What? Did you think I didn’t do my own laundry?”

“You lost a sock,” Dorcas informs him, picking it off the ground and laying it on top of his head.

“Thanks, D.”

“What question do people ask that you wish they wouldn’t?”

“Lots of people have asked me when I decided to be gay, which is wrong on so many levels.”

“If you could master one instrument, what would it be?”

“Guitar or piano.” He dumps the load of laundry on the couch and opens the back door, holding it for the crew as they walk out into the sunshine. Hattie weaves through their legs and disappears into the bushes along the back.

“I might have to take your dog home with me. If you had a tattoo, where would it be?”

Sirius mock-glares at her. “Let me have my girl! Um, I would love to have a tattoo somewhere on my arm.”

“This might be a hard one. Dolphins or koalas?”

“Oh, that is hard. Probably dolphins. The ocean is terrifying but those little guys are just having a blast.”

“What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?” Dorcas asks as he picks up a tennis ball and throws it across the yard. Hattie emerges from the bushes and races after it in a blur of black fur.

“An engagement ring.”

“Yeah, it was.” Remus walks into the backyard and kisses Sirius’ cheek before bending down to catch Hattie in his arms. His hair is still damp from the shower. “Hello, sweet girl!”

“Who’s your favorite musician?”

“Queen.” Sirius laughs at her surprised look. “I’m gay, what did you expect?”

“True. What’s your favorite board game?”

“Monopoly.” Remus and Hattie disappear from the frame, but the bouncing sound of the tennis ball creates some background noise and Sirius watches them for a moment with pure affection.

“Favorite color?”

“Blue.”

“Least favorite color?”

“Orange.”

“Bowties or knot ties?”

He frowns. “Don’t they all have knots?”

“Smartass.”

“Yep! Uh, regular ties.”

“Bowties are superior!” Remus calls.

“Get your own questions!” Sirius laughs.

“Going off your music answers: records or CDs?”

“I don’t own a lot of records, so I’m going to have to go with CDs. I love the way vinyl sounds, though.” His eyes widen as he looks to the side. “Are you okay?”

“Fine,” Remus wheezes. “I didn’t need those ribs anyway.”

“For the viewers, the dog just football-tackled him into the grass,” Sirius says, and Dorcas snorts.

“Your hair is famously luscious. Blow-dry or air-dry?”

“Air dry.”

“Coffee or tea?”

“Coffee, but tea is nice in the evenings.”

“What’s the weirdest word in the English language?”

Sirius laughs. “There are so many. Uh, ‘jeez’ is the one that comes to mind first.”

“What about the French language?”

“Oiseaux,” he says in a crisp accent. “It means ‘birds’, and you pronounce about three of the actual letters.”

“Good to know. Do you prefer dark chocolate or milk chocolate?”

“Dark chocolate.”

“Stairs or elevators?”

“Elevators. I don’t want to walk up three floors after playing hockey for two and a half hours.”

“Summer or winter?”

Sirius bites his lip in thought as they walk around the yard, where small flowers line the fence in beds and colorful pots. “I love summer because I have actual free time to be with my friends, but winter is hockey season. I don’t know, next question.”

“What’s a dessert you don’t like?”

“I’m not a huge fan of caramel. It’s too sticky.”

“A skill you’re working on mastering?”

“Will you ban me from more interviews if I say hockey?”

“Yes.”

“In that case, I’m working on keeping plants alive, as you can probably see.” He taps the nearest flowerpot gently with his foot; it has ‘Harry’ painted across it in sloppy blue letters. “My godson made that for my birthday.”

“What’s the best thing to happen to you today?”

“This, for sure,” he says with a smile. “I haven’t seen you and Marley in ages.”

“We missed you, too. What’s the worst thing that happened to you today?”

He pouts slightly. “Burning my tongue on tea.”

“Hugs or kisses?”

“Hugs! Though I’ll accept kisses from a few very specific people.”

“Do you have a favorite smell?”

He pauses and cranes his neck to look behind the cameras. “Re?”

“Yeah?”

“What shampoo do you use?”

“Uhhh…” There’s a moment of quiet. “It’s something with lavender, I think.”

Sirius turns back to Dorcas. “Something with lavender.”

“How specific,” she laughs. “What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?”

He smiles to himself. “There was a young woman, maybe sixteen or seventeen, that came to one of the games earlier this season. I saw her standing with a puck and went over, and while I was signing it she looks at me and says, ‘you are exactly what I wish my older brother was like’. Turns out, she was bisexual and her brother wasn’t super accepting of her. That was…” He shakes his head. “That meant the world to me. I’ll never forget it.”

“You’ve definitely made a big impact on the community,” Dorcas agrees. “What’s the last piece of content you consumed that made you cry?”

“Animated, mostly because I wasn’t allowed to watch Disney movies as a kid, so I’ve been catching up as an adult and they rock.”

“What’s your nerdiest quality?

“I love watching documentaries.”

“Sweet or savory?” The back door creaks a bit as they walk back inside and the camera catches a few frames of Hattie and Remus running around the yard together.

“Sweet.”

“In ten years, you have a daughter. What age do you let her date?”

Sirius gives Dorcas a look. “Whenever she wants to. I’m going to impose curfews and stuff, but I’m the last person on the planet to police her love life.”

“Good answer. What’s a song you can listen to on repeat?”

“Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen. Absolute banger.”

“If you could switch lives with someone for a day, who would it be?”

“Arthur Weasley,” he says after a moment. “I would love to know what it feels like to get up in the morning and know you’re about to spend another day wrangling our team. It’s a miracle he hasn’t killed us all with his clipboard.”

“How do you know you’re in love?”

“Oh.” Sirius blinks at her in surprise at the sudden topic change. “Well, for me, I think it’s just…being comfortable around someone. Being able to spend time with them without saying anything and knowing you’re safe, no matter what. It’s the best feeling in the world.”

“What are you most excited about at this time in your life?”

A slight smile crinkles his eyes. “Getting married. That’s going to be awesome.”

“Who is your go-to for having a good laugh?”

“James Potter. He’s the best, and I love him.”

“Last question,” Dorcas says, sliding her list into her pocket. “Many LGBT+ people, especially teenagers, have spoken about how you’re an inspiration. Any words for them?”

Sirius hums in thought. “First of all, thank you for being so open and welcoming. I would never have expected the sheer force of people’s love to come through like that when so many people were saying horrible things. Second, to any kids out there who need to hear it: I’m proud of you. It takes a lot to be true to yourself and even if you’re still in the closet, you’re just as valid as the rest of us. Stay proud.”

“That’s a wrap.” Dorcas gives him a quick hug that he happily returns. “Thanks for letting us crash your morning, Cap.”

the most notorious fandoms do tend to spring up from Things That Are Bad (supernatural, bbc sherlock, the onceler) or at the very least conceptually questionable (hamilton has fantastic music but the glorification of the founding fathers is uhhh Not Good), but i dont really agree with the take that “only Bad Media gets fandoms, Good Media never elicits that kind of reaction” because it’s not really accurate

there is plenty of media out there that’s widely considered to be Very Good that also gets heavily fandomized and i for one find it very interesting to look at good media that just has a lot of fans vs good media that Gets Fandomized and what exactly causes that to happen

(defining “gets fandomized” as like, having a lot of fanfiction, character flanderization among fans, and being unable to scroll through the tag for more than like a minute without seeing an x reader or imagine or incorrect quotes post, whereas things that just have a lot of fans will have, like, gifsets and analyses and memes or whatever but not a widespread assortment of the stuff that fandom is really known for)

like, this is just my bullshit musing and not necessarily the 100% comprehensive truth but the way i see it, a piece of media is more likely to get fandomized if it has at least one but often a combination of some of the following traits: is generally lighthearted, can be used to peddle your aesthetic, has easily shippable characters, or has a world people can build off of.

like, people write fanfiction of pride and prejudice, a piece of classic literature, because it’s basically a romcom with a regency era aesthetic. the tag for dead poets society is filled with dark academia and people shipping the main boys. lord of the rings and avatar the last airbender are both widely considered to be the gold standard for their respective mediums, and both have large fandoms because people like to ship the characters and imagine what different facets of these fantasy worlds must be like.

meanwhile, another show that is very good, like the haunting of hill house, doesn’t get fandomized as much because it doesn’t really tick any of those boxes. the haunting of bly manor, which is part of the same anthology series, actually has more fanfic on ao3 because romantic love plays a much more key role in that story than hill house.

and y’know to me the problem seems to arise from fandomizing things that just aren’t really appropriate to fandomize. like pride and prejudice and lord of the rings are fair game as far as i’m concerned but dead poets society not so much (if you watch a movie where tragedy is a key part of the experience and go “but what if these 1950s school boys kissed” then you and i just don’t see eye to eye i’m sorry). and i’m glad hill house doesn’t get fandomized because it’s really not that kind of story

also let it be known that while i do think fandom is generally annoying and bad for genuine literary analysis and critical thinking, i dont think that it’s, like, a moral failing or worthy of scolding or whatever. like i think that making “dead poets society but just the gay moments” compilations is weird as hell and completely derailing from the intended experience of that movie but also none of this matters outside of internet spaces and most of the time it’s just people having harmless fun (tho fandom also lends itself to stuff like harassment and racism, which is not harmless but also not what this post is about)

Ninjago/Avatar The Last Airbender au :)

(more like Legend of Korra au at this point tho, its based in the future, like 2 generations past Korra, but its still more like the Korra era tbh, though i compare some of the characters to atla characters)

Lets talk about Lloyd first. 2 generations of avatars after legend of Korra, the avatar would be from the fire nation, it turns out to be the fire lord himself’s son, and this this is Lloyd. Very ‘if Zuko was the avatar-’ energy. So, Lloyd is the avatar, at the time im thinking he’s still mastering all the elements, he’s done firebending and a little bit of airbending so far, he hasnt done any training in waterbending/earthbending but he can do really minimal stuff, like similar levels to what katara could do in season 1 before they got to the northern water tribe.

Garmadon, the main villain, is of course the firelord, and of course that means that Lloyd has ninjago-movie-level/Zuko-level daddy-issues. Harumi is an Azula equivalent, im just saying, Garmadon adopted her in ninjago and she never had a healthy relationship with Lloyd anyway, so, ive decided they’re siblings now and they hate eachother.

Kai and Nya are very similar to Bolin and Mako from legend of Korra, they live in republic city (which is the equivalent of ninjago city), the two of them are of course firebenders and waterbenders, and they do pro-bending for a living, but I like to imagine that unlike Bolin and Mako, theyre on opposite rival teams.

Jay lives in that metal city from Korra, i think its called Zaofu, yea that. His parents, Ed and Edna, are retired higher-ups in the earth kingdom’s government, and they are both really good metalbenders, Jay was seemingly adopted from the fire nation, and is a firebender with an affinity for lightningbending. The Walker family are among those making the most innovative technology of its time, probably around the same level as our generation, because theyre able to use Jay’s lightning as electricity.

Cole also lives in Zaofu, he’s an earthbender but not a metalbender which must make things quite difficult, I imagine he’s great friends with Jay because they’re both different in a place full of metalbenders. When Cole’s mom died, i think Cole would move to republic city, looking for somewhere that doesn’t remind him of his Mom, and so a place where loads of people have different bending abilities must sound great.

He ends up befriending Kai and Nya after getting a job at the probender’s gym and then stopping one of those earth disc things that was going to hit someone in the head during practice, the smith siblings convince him to become a probender himself, and they end up fighing over which team he gets to join (ive also decided that Cole finally gets his long awaited gay love intrest and that he’s in Kai’s team ao Cole joins that team so that he can get closer to him).

Zane was made in Zaofu, by doctor julien who was a very close friend of the Walkers, Zane knew Jay and and Cole well. Zane moved to the northern water tribe after discovering that he was a waterbender and wanting to get proper training in order to be able to forfill his canon goal/purpose of being able to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

When Lloyd was 12 he ran away from the fire nation, fearing some big attack that Garmadon and Harumi were planning, so he went to seek allies to help him fight, and maybe learn the other elements too. He saw a pro-bender’s match being publicised and decided that these strong buff looking ppl were a good place to look for allies and people to help him train. He ends up meeting with cole, who was the most inclined to talk to some random ass guy who messaged them saying that they had to meet and form an alliance, they end up forming team avatar 3.0.

Cole contacts Jay, whos still in zaofu, saying that he and this group of people are going arround gaining allies to fight garmadon. They are next going to the northern air temple to gain air nomad allies and get lloyd some better airbending training, and, just like in canon, jay was trying to learn how to fly (yall seen his backstory where he jumped off a building to test out a glider?) but yeah because of that jay was like heck yeah dude i’ll meet u there, and he later joins the group

This is of course, nearby the nothern water tribe (both got north in their name), so while Lloyd was learning airbending, Jay, Cole, and Nya went on ahead to the Northern water tribe, because Jay and Cole wanted to reunite with their best friend Zane and Nya wanted to see if being there could improve her waterbending abilities. Cole and Jay’s connection with Zane made things easier to form an alliance with the Northern Water tribe, they arranged for Lloyd to go there at some point to learn waterbending after he’s done at the Northern air temple and to get some of the strongest nothern water tribe waterbenders to come help when garmadon/harumi do that big attack thing. Lloyd doesn’t get to go there in time though because Garmadon/ Harumi do the thing and the gang need to stop them asap.

The day was cool and sunny, the perfect fall weather. Every Side of Thomas Sanders was enjoying their date thus far, having taken a walk along a lovely forest path that had taken a turn into a large lake. 

Patton laughed and ran off the path down to the sand, kneeling down by the shore to look for tiny seashells. The other sides smiled fondly, Remus joining him to see if there were any weirdly shaped ones. Virgil was holding hands with Roman as they walked along the shore, Janus and Logan heading along the shore in the other direction.

“Well, my love, what do you think?” Roman asked as they walked. Virgil smiled, looking around at the red, orange, and yellow leaves, with purple shadows deep into the forest. These colors were contrasted by the green grass, the golden white of the sandy shore, and the blue of the lake that matched the sky. 

“I think that you did a wonderful job creating this place, Roman. I do, however, assume that Remus made sure the lake was deep enough for more of his pet octopi.” Roman giggled at that and nodded. 

“Yes, he insists that I never get the depth quite right, and I’ve stopped arguing at this point. I did the lake first, however, so that the rest of this was all me.” Roman blushed gently, glad as he looked around that he could see his loves and his brother enjoying themselves. 

Virgil grinned brightly as he kissed Roman’s cheek gently, making the Prince flush even further. After that, they continued walking, finding a small stone path that led to a gazebo in the center of the lake. Logan and Janus met them at the entrance, having taken the slightly shorter path around the lake. 

Janus and Roman bowed Logan and Virgil through the entrance, dramatic as ever. Virgil held his arm out to Logan, who giggled slightly as he took it. A little stereotypical, perhaps, but this was the imagination, and they were allowed any silly little romantic tropes their hearts desired. 

Patton and Remus stopped playing in the lake long enough to enjoy the show of Roman and Janus arguing over who would go through the gazebo entrance first. 

“After you, my love.” Roman insisted gently, bowing.

“Darling, I must insist you go ahead of me.” Janus bowed even deeper.

Patton and Remus giggled as they skipped through, Remus grabbing Janus and Patton dragging Roman. Both were dragged inside, to the delight of all. 

Roman stuck his tongue out at Janus. “Technically, I win, because Patton grabbed me after Remus grabbed you.”

Janus straightened his outfit, stalking up to Roman, and kissed him... before pushing him into the lake. However, Roman grabbed the snake-like side and took Janus with him, getting him all wet too.

Virgil, Logan, Patton, and Remus laughed at the two. Then, some of Remus’ octopi bobbed to the surface, latching onto the two sides. 

“Hey, Squishy.” Roman laughed as a red octopus - the red octopus Roman had given Remus when they were both still kids - greeted him gently. Squishy waved at the side who had created him before Remus jumped into the lake. Remus swam up to Roman, who handed the green side Squishy gently. Squishy latched onto Remus, waving goodbye at Roman, who waved goodbye back, and went to help Janus where all the other octopi were stuck in his hair.

“I love Remus, but I swear, if one more tentacle feels up my-” “Hey, Janus, need some help with that?” Roman laughed.

“No.” Janus pouted, pointing at the sucker marks along his human arm. Roman kissed Janus gently, before tickling the octopi so that they left Janus’ skin (rather similar to the Pentapus in Avatar the Last Airbender, both noticed). 

The red and yellow sides heard a small chuckle from above them, and looked up to see their Virgil lounging on the side of the gazebo. “Hey.” He nodded at them, smiling.

Neither of them will admit how they blushed, thinking only of how unfair it was that Virgil could look so hot doing that.

Before they could say anything, however, Patton ran over and pushed Virgil into the lake with Roman and Janus, surprising everyone. Virgil just laughed, though, as he came up for air, making Roman swim over to him to attack him with kisses for being too cute. Janus wasn’t far behind, and soon all three were swimming closely together in the water, enjoying their time together. 

“Patton... would you take a swim with me?” Logan asked, holding his hand out to the more emotional side. Patton nodded excitedly, quickly pushing Remus in before taking Logan’s hand and jumping in with him. Remus quickly engaged the glasses gays in a splash war, which Logan won (to no one’s surprise and Remus’ profound disappointment in yet another splash war defeat). 

Remus’ octopi swam to him, making him laugh as he swam to annoy Virgil. Virgil pet the little octopi, giving Remus time to grab him, throw him in the air, and dunk him like a child. Virgil came up for air laughing, gently kissing Remus before splashing him with water, gently enough to be nice to the octopi. Remus grinned and splashed back, not noticing that the octopi swam away until Roman dunked Remus under the water. Patton and Logan swam over to splash Roman, and once again, it was an all out splash war that Logan won.

Soon after, they swam lazily to the shore, getting out of the lake and letting the sun (and a bit of magic) dry their clothes. They sat and ate their picnic that Roman, Remus, and Patton had conjured up (Patton making sure everyone got second cookies, of course), lazily letting the afternoon wash over them. Roman eventually sat next to Logan, playing with his hair, making the logical side smile. Patton moved to lean against Roman, with Janus curling in between them as much as he could for some extra body heat. Virgil laughed and sat next to Patton so that he could box Janus in, thus giving him some extra warmth. Remus sat between Virgil and Logan, taking Logan’s hand and leaning against Virgil with a happy sigh. 

All the sides felt content, and warm, and loved, and knew that everything would be okay - especially since they had each other. 

The evening was cool and getting slightly darker, as the sides began to leave the imagination. And when they got home, they each hugged and held the others, kissing their partners gently, with all the attention and love and care in the world.

They had each other; they were loved; and all was well as they gently ended their wonderful day that they had spent in the best way of all; together.
