two things one is more so one of my personal woe things unrelated to you but i deleted my masterlist immediately after finishing it because i didnt like the layout of it; 3 hours down the drain SOBS other thing! imma go ahead and link the other fluff alphabet stuff so its a complete list! actually third surprise thing, WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME I ACCIDENTALLY FORGOT TO PUT P IN THE FLUFF ALPHABET/lh/nm i fixed it now but i cant believe i skipped a letter i feel so dumb

ABSTRACT- if you were to ever abstract he would probably abstract himself. i mean if the things about queener/queenie are true and they were close, then that would mean this guy would lose a loved one TWICE. that would most definitely break someone, and kinger is already on the edge as it is. if he somehow doesnt abstract, he probably becomes even more paranoid; kind of shutting everyone out almost because he sure as hell knows he cant take a third heartbreak. rarely ever leaves his pillow fort, unless hes physically dragged out? sometimes he forgets you're gone, because he just refuses to believe the truth. sad stuff

BONDING- will rattle on and on about cool bug facts, if he has his own collection in his room he will show you it! maybe, if you want, he will let you hold some of the critters! tells a lot of stories, nicer ones from when things in the circus arent so... bad.. usually when hes in a good headspace! you get the feeling he embellishes his stories... not too different from a grandfather trying to make his experiences seem more glamorous and action packed than they really were

CUDDLING- he is very hard, due to him being a chess piece, but his clothes do a really good job at softening him! no arms :(... usually rests his hands on your back, or maybe has one on your shoulder and the other on your hip. switches between being big and little spoon, sometimes he wants to hold and sometimes he wants to be held

GIFT- you know how some people put bugs in like, cases to preserve them or something? i feel like he would give you those with some of his prettier bugs! loves anything you give him, he always keeps them stored safe in his room!

HARSH- you guys dont really get into arguments, i dont think! kinger doesnt like hiding things from you unless its something deeply personal, but otherwise hes an open book to you

JEALOUSY- its not so much as him being jealous as it is him being paranoid that something is going to happen to him or you, so! even if he wasnt worrying himself half to death he doesnt exactly seem like the jealous type to me, tbh

KISS- its time for my favorite thing for characters with no mouth!!! he boinks his face into yours, i actually wrote something for this! not gonna link it since its so short and i can easily relay the idea: but he would internally hype himself up (usually does this if this is the beginning of the relationship, he gets more confident as time goes on!), and just lightly 'pecks' your cheek before pulling away. loves kissing your cheeks as well as the back of your hands. loves being kisses where his mouth would be as well as his cheeks

LOVE LANGUAGE- quality time!! this man follows you around like a love sick puppy, because he loves you so much but also because again, he worries.. he also likes doing acts of service for you, makes him feel like hes capable of doing things on his own (which he is!). loves it when you return the favor via words of affirmation

MENDED- is he dreaming? is he imagining things again?

nope, its really you. somehow, you've recovered from abstracting, and you're now out of the cellar. he wants to hold you and never ever ever let you go, out of fear that hes going to come to his senses any second and youll be gone. wants to keep you in the pillow fort with him, or at least within his line of sight

NO- its less of an active dealbreaker and more of a "hey this is going to stress him out and probably hurt his mental health" but like, i dont think he would pair well with a really really intense person. like sure caien is pretty intense, but its not like caine is going to be spending a significant amount of time with him everyday, but like. you know? like i talk about some characters enjoying being on their toes and left guessing in regards to their partner, but kinger is NOT one of those people. he needs stability

PDA- less of a case where he actively and knowingly indulges in PDA and more so a case where he subconsciously holds onto your hand to keep you at arms length and to feel you. due to his lack of arms he has probably wandered off without you (and his hand) at least once. is not opposed to PDA, though, so long as its not like. insane

QUIET TIME- quiet time between the two of you is very rare. sure kinger can be very quiet when hes alone, but when hes alone with someone else, someone he cares so much about.. he cant help but fill the silence with words, to keep the ringing in his ears at bay .. so really quiet time is talking time

ROSES- ill mention it again in V (i wrote v before this section), he loves giving you roses especially on special occations! loves receiving flowers as well, he seems like a rose kind of guy as well

SHH- the one thing he doesnt like talking about is queener/queenie, well, more so the last few days leading up to her abstraction. it brings up. well, memories. on one hand he doesnt want to forget her, but on the other hand he doesnt want to bare the pain of those terrible memories

TUNES- THIS THIS THIS THIS ONE ALWAYS COME TO MY HEAD WHEN I THINK OF ROMANTIC HCS FOR SWEETIDEAS FOR OLDER GUYS IDK WHY

UPSET- im going back and forth with a lot of these as i fill in the list so! tying this in with E, i mention one of the only times he gets emotional is when he remembers some unfortunate events that took place in the circus. you're going to need to console him and bring him back to the present moment :(. when you're upset he tries to distract you, takes you to his fort, and tells you stories

VALENTINE- on the chance that he remembers what day it is, hes going to give you the most sterotypical date he can give to you. i think it might be because i can kind of see kinger as like, a classic/stereotypical romantic when it comes to you. flowers, he cant take you out to dinner so he takes you out to the digital lake to gaze at the clouds and watch the bugs pass

WANT- he wants a companion, he wants stability, and thats something he needs. he wants someone to be compassionate about him, his wellbeing, and his interests

Aiden is really affectionate with Ash, he has a hard time keeping in how he feels about her so he's constantly complimenting her, touching her, kissing her if she will let him, etc etc. He's just soooo in love with her he can't keep it in- 🫠

B = Best Friend

Ngl Aiden was like the closest thing Ash had to a best friend before they started dating 🤡 he's not that different besides the fact that he can keep his emotions a little more in check (like friend boundaries). Very protective, encouraging, and does his best to listen ^_^

C = Cuddles

Bless him he is touch starved and cuddling is like a feast to him. He LOVES cuddling. Definitely clingy and likes rubbing her arms or back. Man ascends whenever Ash glomps him.

D = Domestic

Aiden likes the idea of settling down, he would like to live with Ash at some point, especially cuz he grew up in an empty house. It's kinda unfortunate since he sucks really hard at domestic tasks 💀 he's never had to cook or clean a day in his life and he's not very inclined to learn lmao. He's super messy and pretty much banned from the kitchen 😭

E = Ending

Um he would literally rather die 🫠 he will fight tooth and nail to be with her and if he HAD to break up with her it would be like, under pressure that somebody was going to kill her or smth 😭 and then he'd kill the person who threatened her and go get his girl back.

F = Fiancé

He doesn't really care about getting married as long as Ash stays with him :P He likes how his ring looks on her finger tho.

G = Gentle

He's not very good at that haha. He's very...um, intense with all his feelings oop- He's not very good at being soft (verbally/emotionally) in the moment, it's something he needs to give thought too. He can be pretty tender physically tho, likes to kiss her forehead :)

H = Hugs

Loves loves loves hugging, especially if Ash initiated. Totally into squeeze hugging and lifting her off her feet. He kinda hovers around her in public and puts his arm around her so he's constantly "loose hugging" her.

I = I love you

He said it pretty quickly. He doesn't see why he should hide how he feels :p. He probably said it when she was just doing smth, like with no buildup or anything. It was just a very sudden feeling on his part and he vocalised it right away

J = Jealousy

Pretty consistently 🤡 he has attachment issues can you blame him? 😭 (you can). Very not cool with other people (that he doesn't know) talking, touching, hanging out with Ash and he will be hate-watching them the entire time. With Ash he gets a lot clingier and starts complimenting her even more, but if Ash gets weirded out/annoyed by it he tends to react pretty poorly and can get upset with her.

K = Kisses

His kisses vary, but they can be kinda aggressive/intense? lmao. He is just having BIG FEELINGS and he needs to express himself- if hes stressed he'll just. Grab her face and mash their mouths together (jumpscares Ash fr) He really does not care where he kisses Ash like everything is good for him, but when Ash kisses him first on the mouth that's soooo... he goes to heaven fr.

L = Little Ones

Pretty good with children actually! He has some experience with Lily and he vibes pretty well with kid energy, especially if they're hyperactive like him lol. Great with games and stuff. Babies like him a lot for some reason, they always start laughing when he holds them.

He gets up at like 4am all the time to do crap because he's an insomniac. Usually goes to exercise or play a video game/puzzle. Ash is not a morning person, but sometimes she can convince him to crawl back into bed and snuggle 😌

He does go to bed really late 💀 He has an EXTREMELY hard time falling asleep so he just stays up till he passes out. Ash and him have been trying stuff to help him sleep better so they drink tea and talk to each other without looking at their phones.

O = Open

Absolutely not open with his history lol. he pretty much blocks out most of his past and he won't talk about it unless Ash insists or he feels like he needs to tell her to clarify his feelings. Doesnt say more than he needs to.

P = Patience

He has none for everything 🤡 he hates waiting, he hates putting in a lot of effort into something, he hates spending a long time on anything- (except his friends). He kinda has some hidden anger issues, he looks really easy going but like fr. He has problems.

Q = Quizzes

UM it's kinda creepy how much he remembers about Ash 😭 He has an entire space in his brain dedicated to her. He knows how she likes her coffee, her daily schedule, the exact time of her birth...he likes knowing about her sue him.

R = Remember

It's hard to pick his favourite memory cuz he's such a fan of her, even during the time she kinda hated him :> One of his top moments would probably be when she first said "I love you" back to him though.

S = Security

He's soooooo overprotective, the first time he saw her get seriously injured it was his fault and he never let that go. He knows Ash can handle herself but he still wants to keep her safe if he can!!! If somebody hurts her they are never seeing the light of day again ^_^ He always swoons a little when Ash tries to protect him too.

T = Try

His relationships are like one of the only things he actually puts effort in so. He spends a lot of time thinking on gifts, what they can do on dates, etc etc if it involves Ash. Helps her around the house if she lets him.

U = Ugly

He has sooooo many bad habits. He's super addict prone and his BPD means he will do a lot of self-sestructive stuff. Smoker (he hates it), drinker (he hates it even more), joyrider extraordinaire (just kill him now) :/ Working on it at his therapy sessions but he relapses sometimes.

V = Vanity

...I mean, he's concerned about how he looks, but not in a "looking good" way. He dyes his hair consistently because he wants to look like that, same with his contacts. Otherwise he's not like doing beauty routines for his skin or anything lol.

W = Whole

Yes he has an unhealthy attachment to Ash so he would feel incomplete without her 🫠

X = Xtra

Ash isn't his first 'relationship' but she is the first one where he actually felt something. He was pretty easy going so if somebody asked him to be their partner he almost always said yes, but he never seriously cared about any of them...🫠 Ghosted people a lot when he moved oop

Y = Yuck

He knows he has a lot of issues so like he's not gonna judge somebody a lot if they have their own vices. He would probably dislike if Ash started acting like himself lmao (you hate somebody because they reflect the worst parts of yourself) 🫠 For smth she actually does, he doesn't really like how cold she can be sometimes, but he knows she can't help it so he doesn't comment on it.

Z = ZZZ

Sleeps with like 4 different blankets and he doesn't really like wearing pyjamas, he'd sleep in his boxers if he could. The blankets are like, good texture stim on his skin :D

Ashlyn Banner

A = Affection

Not good with it let's be real. Still figuring out her boundaries and what she's comfortable with. She generally just let's Aiden set the pace and if she doesn't like it she'll say something, but it's rare for her to initiate, when she does its usually something lowkey like holding his hand (prefers physical over verbal).

B = Best Friend

Ash hasn't had friends. Ever. Until suddenly she got five that she got bonded to for life 🤡 As a bestie she is generally very loyal and protective, even if she isn't very good with emotional stuff, she tries to show her support in whatever way she can.

C = Cuddles

Not really something she thinks about a lot? She doesn't mind cuddling with Aiden but he is very touchy so she gets overstimulated quickly. She prefers just lying on top of him without him grabbing her.

D = Domestic

She always imagined living by herself so the idea is a little intimidating ngl, but she's ready to give it a shot when the time comes :> Good at household chores, her parents are ex-military so she's well disciplined with making the bed, cleaning her area of the house, and she's a decent cook. Trying to teach Aiden how to do his own chores to since nobody ever taught him.

E = Ending

She would end things if she felt like Aiden wasn't getting better, she can't keep letting his bad behavior slide her entire life. Could see them getting a divorce if they had a kid together and he was still acting like that (we hope not). Definitely the type of exes to still see each other though, he's nothing if not persistent, and she can't quite seem to quit him ^_^"

F = Fiancée

She didn't even think she'd ever get married lol. She doesn't really care about labeling their relationship like that but she did ask him for tax reasons. And he was happy too, so that's a plus :>

G = Gentle

She's said it herself, she's not good at that. She's generally pretty brash with Aiden and she has a hard time being vulnerable. She's also not a very physically gentle person either, she usually initiates contact if she's stressed/upset so it's kinda intense. She's working on it!

H = Hugs

Pretty rare, she doesn't mind if Aiden hugs her, but Jesus, sometimes it feels like he's going to break her ribs 💀 Not that her hugs are much better tho 🫠 Tends to bury her face in his shoulder and grab his hair.

I = I love you

It's soooooo hard for her omg. She can't explain why she just feels really weird/dumb saying it 😭 she usually only says it during the heat of the moment. To compromise with Aiden, she usually writes it down on a sticky note and gives it to him. Writing is easier.

J = Jealousy

Sometimes the autism rejection sensitivity flares up haha 🫠 she's waaaaaay less jealous than Aiden but sometimes she wonders if she's just a passing fancy to him because he's so intense and quick about it (before reminding herself hes loyal to a fault). If other people talk about it (like if Aiden has been spending a lot of time with somebody) she's more likely to get jealous since she will kinda internalize their thoughts (like very "what...? Do you think I *should* be jealous?")

K = Kisses

Supremely awkward. Doesn't understand what she's supposed to do with her mouth aldhlwhd. She likes kissing his cheek because its a very simple gesture and he gets very happy. Will combust if Aiden kisses her forehead ❤️

L = Little Ones

Not the besttttt...she generally finds children to be too emotional and she doesn't understand what they're feeling. Babies are scary to her, they're so...delicate...

She doesn't hate them or anything but she's not volunteering to babysit.

M = Morning

She is CRANKY when she gets up and you can't talk to her before her cup of coffee or she's going to bite your head off. When she gets to sleep in she's waaaaay more affectionate in bed, grabs onto Aiden so he won't leave :p

N = Night

Night owl, which is useful since Aiden has trouble sleeping. She'll keep him company until he can fall asleep, but usually she falls asleep on his shoulder or smth and Aiden has to take her to bed ^_^

O = Open

Not at all. Doesn't like revealing more about herself than necessary :> She only tells Aiden things if he asks her about it. They're both very closed off which is great combo 💀

P = Patience

She's more patient than Aiden, but that isn't saying much. She gets irritated very easily but she's a lot better at managing her emotions so she doesn't lose her temper very easily, even if she's constantly annoyed.

Q = Quizzes

She's not forgetful or anything about Aiden but it's also not something she thinks about a lot. Like if somebody asked her smth about him she'll just answer it without thinking and be surprised with herself lol.

R = Remember

She just likes spending time with him, they don't have to do anything grand or amazing for it to stay in her memory, her favourite moments are the little things. Aiden genuinely laughing/smiling, the look on his face right before he figures out a puzzle, the calluses on his fingertips when she holds his hand...she's actually very sappy :>

S = Security

She is overprotective because. She watched him die. And she's just like that. But she constantly feels like she's failing him since Aiden gets hurt so frequently. Protective in a more subtle way, like if she thinks he's going to spiral she locks his meds away and won't leave him alone for anything. She gets stressed out when he tries to protect her because he can go overboard :p

T = Try

She tries so hard you guys. All of this is VERY new and scary for her, so. Baby steps. Tries to do her part in the relationship; she likes the act of planning dates even if choosing what to do stresses her out, tries to surprise him because she knows he loves that a lot (she's not very good at it).

U = Ugly

Bad habits: Sometimes everything is a lot so she will just. Not communicate with him for a long time which freaks him out. (Like he doesn't do this too 🫠) Hard time talking about her feelings and sometimes relies on the gang to solve their misunderstanding. Sometimes doesn't know where to draw the line and can be too harsh on him.

V = Vanity

Only her hair. She's very careful with it. Otherwise she doesn't care at all.

W = Whole

She's kinda bonded to him for life cuz of all the trauma so yeah she wouldn't feel "whole" without Aiden, but she would handle it a lot better than he would.

X = Xtra

Talks to Taylor about her relationship problems; Tay thinks she just has bad taste 🤡

Y = Yuck

Really hates all of Aiden's bad habits (the self destructive stuff, his own apathy towards himself, how obsessive he is with her)

Z = ZZZ

When she becomes comfortable sleeping with somebody on the same bed, she'll let her hair loose, otherwise she's gonna keep the braids.

Let's make it a series, because I'm overwhelmed with packing. Got ya the mugs, too, they're real.

Ghost and Soap moving in together, part 2.

(Part 1 if you want some more context)

• Soap loves plants, but in his line of work he's not home often enough to take proper care of them, so he resorts to getting the least awful out of the artificial ones. Ghost says they're perfect for collecting dust. They get into a surprisingly heated argument about it. Ghost lets Soap win, but he's not convinced.

• When they come back from that mission (which wasn't nearly as smooth and easy as promised by intel), both are on medical leave for at least several weeks. Ghost has been shot in the shoulder, and Soap managed to twist his ankle so badly it broke. Got all of the ligaments torn, too. They come back home late in the evening, and are greeted with boxes, dismantled furniture, everything left exactly as it was, now covered in a thin layer of dust. "Fucking hell, Johnny," - manages Ghost, dropping his backpack on the floor. There's not much to add.

• Sitting on the floor with tea is a tradition now, apparently. Honestly, they're way too tired now to deal with any of this.

• They have the stupidest fight about who's gonna take care of the heavy things. Ghost gives it a go before Soap can protest and ends up reopening the wound.

"You pull your stitches again, Si, and I'm gonna finish you off myself," - Soap promises, stitching him up.

"I'd rather you worry about that leg of yours. Heavy lifting and crutches don't go together that well."

"We need to get the bed built at least, aye?"

"Fuck it," Ghost exhales, wincing when the needle goes through the skin again. They end up just moving the mattress into the bedroom (it still took a ridiculous amount of time).

"You know where the bedding stuff is? Right there." Soap points to a big box in the bottom of the stack.

"Fuck it," repeats Ghost and sprawls on the mattress. He's exhausted, his shoulder stings, that mattress is softer than whatever they slept on for weeks now, the heating's on, and Johnny's right there, tucked at his good side, almost cuddling him. He really doesn't care about anything else.

• They end up calling in reinforcements the next day. Yeah, that 'I can do it myself' attitude is something they both suffer from, but they're definitely not in shape to deal with this on their own. It takes a little bribery (a promise of takeout dinner and a couple of good bottles of scotch) to convince Gaz and Roach to come.

• When they get in, it gets way louder than it was. Ghost thought Johnny was the loudest, but these two on leave are something else entirely. Yet, they do spread the boxes out on the floor which makes it easier to take things out, and move the art stuff to the second bedroom so they have space to build the shelf. That helps a lot.

• Ghost gets to sort things and put them away, and falls into a flow state. It doesn't bother his injury, and he's quick and productive. He's aligning Soap's spices in alphabet order, alright? Soap's definitely going to mess it up the second he touches it, but it doesn't matter.

• Johnny's really trying to carry as much as he can at once, but you can only take so much when you're on crutches. So, he hops around with a crutch in one hand, leg in a boot, one arm full of things, and he carries some in his mouth. The others have a field day joking because he can't come back at them in time. He does make all sorts of funny sounds to retort, but it only riles them up even more.

• "Wait, you've only got one bed? That's sus."

Ghost just glares at Gaz, and he drops the topic. But not for long.

"So, when's the wedding?"

He gets a pillow in his face from Soap who just had landed his ass on a sofa, and another threatening glare from Ghost. "The forest is big, Gaz. Easy to get lost," - he threatens, but there's no real heat behind it.

• By the end of the day it looks much better than before, but still nowhere near done. "Can we put your lights somewhere in the living room before we call it a day?" Ghost asks Soap, and he surprises himself with how soft it comes out.

Gaz and Roach just exchange long looks. They know better than to voice it, but the shared thought is "that's not Ghost, that's Simon". They don't want to scare him off, it's not often they get to see the guy in the first place. "Soap's a good influence on him," - Roach whispers almost non-audibly. - "Haven't seen him like that in years." Gaz just nods.

"Yeah, sure, bring them, and I'll wrap them around," - Soap sounds tired. It's been a long day. Their hands brush when they tweak the garlands to fix them in place, it feels like a little electric sparkle. Ghost catches Johnny's hand for a moment, and Soap makes that little surprised sound that's gonna etch itself in Simon's memory forever now.

• With the shelf in place, TV standing proudly in the centre of it, and books arranged neatly, the living room comes to life. Ghost's table is closer to the kitchen, his only black chair sticking out like a sore thumb among Soap's wooden ones. They all have different pillows on them, a chaotic mismatch of colour. It is somehow cozy, cosier than Ghost could have imagined, and they're not even done with it yet.

• Chinese takeaway, scotch, and Mortal Kombat on Ghost's PlayStation is the best way to finish the day. The little lights are on, the flat feels much better already, almost homely despite the mess. The sofa is big enough for all of them, but it still gives Johnny an alibi to stick himself to Simon's good side. It's not cuddling, there's just not enough space, and he ended up there, OK?

• Gaz destroys Ghost in MK, but Ghost just blames it on the shoulder. "Never knew you were a sore loser, Lt," pokes Roach.

"Say that again, and you're gonna become one," - Ghost deadpans. Soap starts snoring, passed out cold on his shoulder. That's when it finally hits him. He's home.

Not as much as he does the boys. April's pretty good about having her own fun, she's got a family to go back to, she can separate herself when she needs to. She can handle herself!

Noted 👀 Though I don't read fanfic very often because I'm. Usually too busy writing it. fhgdkjgf I'm already behind on stuff I want to read. I will put it on my List.

Leo's least favorite is math, he finds it boring as all hell. Raph's least favorite is chemistry. He cannot get any of it right for the life of him. He accidentally made mustard gas once and from then on Donnie was paired with him to make sure that didn't happen again. Mikey's is history! He has a hard time just sitting still and listening. Donnie's least favorite is the mystic arts. He thinks it's unnecessary for him, because he doesn't have a mystic weapon.

Ghost just tells them he's going to teach them something today and they pretty much all show up. If they miss a day, he doesn't scold them about it or anything, he just lets them miss it. If they don't understand something because of it later, he can just teach it to them again. Normally they don't miss more than a day at a time, and if they do there's usually something else going on. Ghost is homeschooling them, and it's not like they're going to college. The point is learning, not to make them suffer when they don't feel like it. ;)

Splinter was giving the boys an education! He taught them colors, and alphabets, and how to read, how to clean, how to take care of themselves. Splinter taught them a lot, and Ghost knows that. He's not mad for Splinter focusing on the more practical things and less on the academic side.

Oh yeah he's gonna flip y'all.

Spoilers! Though I am now thinking of that 03 episode during fast forward where they go to the gala and Donnie is wearing a purple suit. Thank you.

Ghost is still kinda active with the homeless community. He doesn't talk to them, or really show himself at all, but he drops off blankets and clothes he finds when scavenging.

Ghost doesn't know about Don stealing from ATMs at the moment! He won't mind it, though. He's not hurting anyone but big banks by doing it.

Oh you think Ghost's self-blame and self-hatred is bad now? NOTHING compared to what it would be if he'd fallen into Rise after experiencing SAINW. He knows what's going to happen to his brothers. He knows he disappeared, and that the world ended because of it. He'd work a lot harder. I don't think he'd pay any attention to the kids, honestly, I think he'd be neck-deep in making a portal, trying everything, retrying it.

Ghost has accepted that he's stuck in his dimension. Donatello would not.

The TECH! It's so much easier to get high-grade metal and supplies in Rise! He can get SO MUCH SHIT! No wonder Donnie can build things so nicely, people dump out nice stuff!

Phantom is far less scarred than Ell. He still has the leather jacket because I feel like he deserves a leather jacket. Ghost doesn't have the scar over his eye because of Phantom. When Ghost disappeared to the Battle Nexus to try and find answers, Phantom immediately started looking for him. Ghost had only meant to go for a day, but was trapped by Big Mama and forced to fight. Phantom found him and pulled him out of there before he ever got the scar.

Some things are universal constants :)

Whether they survive it or not is different.

Oh 03 Donatello is completely destroyed. He blames himself entirely. He works all the time to get his lost brother back. Ell and Spirit don't blame Donny, but Mike does a bit. It's easier to be mad at someone than the universe.

Ideas: Gotta Catch 'Em All!

(look, I know one whole Pokemon reference and I'm gonna use it.)

I was tossing around ideas with @calypsid about writing events and coming up with ideas and how to write for big events - in fandom, for the monthlong ones especially, but also if you're someone looking at submitting original fiction to a themed anthology or to a zine, or when you just want to WRITE dammit but the ideas won't come. When the idea hutch is empty and the plotbuns won't come, when the creative spring is trickling or you're at the bottom of the well of inspiration, hope is not lost. We put our heads together and came up with a baker's dozen ways to get ideas and look at prompts to get new inspiration when you need it. So if you want 'em, jump below the cut!

Stop looking at words.

Look at art! Listen to music! Maybe what you need is some song lyrics to get your brain going, or art. Play Sudoku. Go to a coffee shop and watch people. Change your mental or physical environment and see what happens.

Prompt lists

Don’t limit yourself to whatever event you’re writing for! If it’s for a fandom ship week, hit up a themed month prompt list (such as Fluffuary, AUgust, or Whumptober). If you’re trying to think of ideas for a zine pitch, trawl prompt lists from fandom or creative writing websites. Mash the TVTropes random trope button until something clicks.

Tarot spreads

Even if you don’t read tarot on your own, you can find websites where you can do tarot readings. Treat it as a story prompt generator: pick three cards, one that is your protagonist, one that is their goal, one that is their obstacle. Look up the meanings. Go wild! You can use the cards for protagonists, antagonists, story arcs…

Lists

Not prompt lists - but every idea you can think of adjacent to a prompt. Tropes, colors, sayings, characters, types (e.g. species of apple, types of wildflowers, names of cocktails)...

An alphabetical list with an idea for each letter of the alphabet.

A list of 20 ideas, as close or as absolutely wild as you want.

A timed list (write ideas for 5/10/15 minutes). The first chunk may be easy, the last few minutes impossibly hard, but right in the middle where your mind is starting to stretch? That may be perfect.

Once you have a list of any flavor, start looking for patterns: that’s a sign your brain is interested in SOMETHING. What ideas/symbols keep showing up?

Look for unexpected intersections

Ideas or prompts may have unexpected links. Randomize your list! Consider resonances between different prompts; they may seem different in a different order. Pick a not obvious combination of two prompts and follow it to the end - what if you put together “pirate” and “arranged marriage”? Use a wheel spinning picker and see what two things the computer matches up.

You can also take a pair of commonly-associated opposites, pick out their most common stereotypical traits. Now swap them. 

Play with other media

Take characters from one piece of media, the setting from a second (hey look, a fusion/AU!). What resonates between them? Grab a non-fiction book about a topic you’re interested in and read that. Ideas might percolate from a number of unrelated sources into one Super Cool Idea.

Change the setting

Turn a sci-fi show into a fantasy setting, or vice-versa. Add monsters. Add gods; add gods with reality-bending dice; add gods with reality-bending dice who are malicious. Flip your characters' genders. Remove the concept of gender entirely. Send your characters to the dimension next door, where only one thing has changed. Or many things. Or everything. Take the characters out of the plot of your fandom, or replace them with side characters; what changes?

Change your mind

Take the prompt at face value. Or, treat it sarcastically. Subvert the trope - or don't subvert the trope. Write the thing you've always wanted to see, even if you think it won't work. Turn everything about the prompt on its head and look underneath for spare ideas. Come at it from every angle you can think of.

Other people

Talk to people about the prompt. Read Reddit or Tumblr conversations, even ones only vaguely associated with the prompt. Let your mind go in new and interesting directions. 

Cool words

Have you run across an awesome word you wish you could use in a story, or a turn of phrase? Write a story around that. Or if you have a list of cool words you keep anyway, flip back to it, see if there are any that might come together in a story.

Titles

If you have a title you've always wanted to use, let the title inspire the fic instead of the other way around. 

First Sentences

Just start writing first sentences, whatever ones come to mind. Don’t be precious about them; the goal isn’t perfect sentences, the goal is something to get your brain moving. Don’t worry about continuing the story yet! Try and get a bunch down without writing any more of the story. If one speaks to you and demands to be written, go back to it after you’ve got your list down.

Deconstruct a story you love and then rebuild it!

Retell a favorite story (or a hated story you thought you could do better). How did they do X? Why did you love (or hate) something so much? Can you do that with some of your ideas? Take out the main character and their sidekick; how does the story read with just the secondary characters? What if you add someone new? How would the story look different as a documentary, a chatfic, an epistolary collection?

A ctivities - what do they like to do with their s/o? how do they spend their free time with them?

Nanami doesn't get a lot of downtime since he just loves to overwork himself [smh], but when he does, it is usually because you force him to. You would have to get this man's day off for him and be like uh-oh, they didn't schedule you in today, that's too bad.

I think he would love a self care day. He would love taking long baths with you and drinking wine and tea and just spending his time at home with you. Lots of holding each other on the couch and eating a lot of food.

But even on a regular work day, I think he would love getting ready with you in the morning. He loves a good morning routine, so to see you there too makes him fall in love all over again. Making breakfast for each other, giving goodbye kisses, he's a sucker for it all.

He also loves cooking and baking with you. It doesn't take super long and he just loves the little room there is in the kitchen so he can be pressed close to you whenever you're cooking with him.

I also think he would like Frisbee golf(???) don't quote me on that, but I think he would really love playing Frisbee with you lol

B eauty - what do they admire about their s/o? what do they think is beautiful about them?

Thighs guy. And back guy. I'm just gonna put that out there.

But other than that, he finds that your kindness is what really makes you shine. He loves that you are willing to love him and finds that to be the true beauty (gosh, i love this man).

I also think he would find it attractive when you cook for him or cook with him. I think he would find that food is a very intimate and loving way to show how much you love him, so he would be obsessed with it.

C omfort - how would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack, etc.

This man is your therapist. If you feel yourself getting to a stage where you just need to talk or take a breath, or even get a little panicky, you go straight to Nanami. He would breathe with you, trying to keep a steady rhythm and then he would ask you to talk. He would hold your hand, squeezing it occasionally, making you feel warm inside and eventually, you would feel a sense of calmness again.

If you're crying, on the other hand, you would run up to this man, falling straight into his arms. He would rub the back of your head, making little "sh" noises and holding you close to his chest. He would whisper how much he loves you and press little kisses on your head.

Now if you're feeling down about your body, this is a whole other subject. This man would be so upset if you were upset about your appearance. He would take you straight to a mirror and ask you to point at the places that you aren't liking and then proceed to press little kisses and rub those parts of your body, after getting onto you about it, of course.

D reams - how do they picture a future with their s/o?

He has thought about kids, but knows that maybe, because he works so much, that it probably wouldn't be the greatest idea, but the thought it always in his mind.

Marriage, though, is top priority for him. He purposely peels his eyes away from any jewelry shop because god knows he would just walk up and buy a ring on the spot for you.

He just wants to live together forever and have a cat, no Gojo involved. That's his dream future.

E qual - are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?

Both of you switch around quite a bit. I think that he would be dominant in certain aspects, while you would be in others. But to be honest, I think it is a very equal relationship.

You would be the one to force him on the couch for face masks and cuddles, while he would be the one to help with emotional problems and any money issues and all of that.

But I honestly don't see either you or Nanami being more dominant than the other and he treats you completely equally (with tons of kisses ofc)

F ight - would they be easy to forgive their s/o? how are they fighting?

I honestly think, since he is so smart, fights with him wouldn't be fun. He would know what he's talking about and definitely thinks before he says anything. However! Fights with him are very very rare, so nothing to worry about too much.

When fights do happen though, it would feel so separated. You're already separated enough because he's always at work, but it wouldn't even feel like he's around anymore. But he's not avoiding you because he hates you, he's avoiding you because he doesn't want to screw up what you already have. He is thinking about how he is going to apologize, or communicate with you.

I think he would be pretty quick to forgive you if you caused the argument, but there would be a long talk. I think this man thinks that communication is key [amen] and that there needs to be a long talk instead of avoiding the situation or pretending like it didn't happen. He wants to see how he can fix his mistake and he wants to tell you what hurt him. He would be very good at working through it, so it feels like growth is happening instead of the opposite.

G ratitude - how grateful are they in general? are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?

Nanami can't even believe he is breathing the same air as you sometimes.

This man is so grateful that every time he comes home from a stressful day, you're there with your arms stretched out and food on the counter. He couldn't ask for anything more. He loves you more than anything in the whole world.

He eventually figured out that you were managing to get time off for him, but he didn't tell you that he knew. He loved that you would do this for him just to spend more time with him and get him the self care he needs, he's honestly obsessed with it, and a little pissed when he has a long day and you didn't choose face masks for him instead.

He is very aware of how much you love him and take care of him and it's what makes him love you more than the earth itself. He wouldn't give you up for anything and honestly needs you.

H onesty - do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? or do they share everything?

Nanami is a very reserved man, I honestly don't think he would be one for secrets, but he isn't chatty either. I mean, I think he would think it's a secret how much he loves you, but you can tell in those gorgeous eyes how hard he's fallen for you lol.

But perhaps if you weren't a sorcerer, he wouldn't tell you about curses or anything like that just because he wants to keep you safe. He doesn't want you to find out how dangerous his life can be sometimes, so he just tells you about his 9-5 rather than he's been fighting curses all day.

I nspiration - did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?

Since Nanami is like the therapist in your life, your mood and overall mental health has gotten so much better after dating Nanami. You are more willing to talk about your problems than hide them, and more willing to be okay with not being okay, so overall, you have become much healthier after beginning a relationship with Nanami.

Nanami has definitely changed because of you. He has learned how important self care is and how much fun it is to try new things like cooking and baking. He has overall figured out himself and what his life needed, and that was you.

J ealousy - do they get jealous easily? how do they deal with it?

Oh yes.

Oh dear lord this man gets so jealous.

If he takes you to a work party and you start talking to one of his coworkers in a cutesy manner, he will scowl like no other, sending said coworker a dirty look.

Now on the off chance you know Gojo/are friends with Gojo, Nanami will hate it. More than anything. Gojo is a naturally flirtatious fella, so when Nanami saw the way he was talking to you, he was about to fight Gojo on the spot.

I don't think he could deal with it. I just honestly think he couldn't. So, to "deal with it", you usually have to walk up and grab his hand, giving him little kisses or hugs as he is still scowling at whoever you were talking to. It would kind of pull him out, but he would just still have this evil look on his face.

He's never mad at you though. He understands how attractive you are and how attractive other people find you, but he doesn't want anyone to look at you like he does. That's his job.

K iss - are they a good kisser? what was the first kiss like?

Omg I've been waiting to write this one.

He is an immaculate kisser. Like so flippin' good. His lips are soft, and he kisses you like you'll just disappear at any moment. His hands caress the back of your head/neck and you pull him closer by the collar of his shirt. It's like literal heaven. This man is just amazing at kissing and no one can change my mind.

Even the first kiss was amazing. It was around your third or forth date with him, you were taking things slow and having a picnic. The sun was setting and it was golden hour. He turned to you with a smile and said, "finally. I've been waiting all evening." And grabbed your chin with his thumb and index finger, placing the softest and smallest kiss on your lips as you sat there in complete shock, wondering how the heck you managed to obtain him.

L ove Confession - how would they confess to their s/o?

As said before, Nanami is a very reserved guy. A quiet dude, for sure. It would honestly be hard for him to put it into words for the longest time. He would show it by giving you hugs and kisses and cuddles. It was all in the way he rubbed the small of your back, but he had never actually said the words "I love you".

Until one day. He came home, absolutely exhausted, immediately falling into your small arms. He could feel those tired tears filling his eyes and he took a deep breath in the crook of your neck, a small smile appearing on his tired face. "I love you more than anything, you know that?" That had you melting for weeks.

M arriage - do they want to get married? how do they propose? what would their marriage be like?

I cannot express enough how much this man wants to marry you. He would drop down on his knee on the fourth date if he could lmao.

He does take it slow, however.

But when he does propose, it's private. No one around, just you and him. It would probably be on your porch as the sun is setting. He would talk about how much he appreciates you and how he wants to be with you forever. Then he would pop the question.

The wedding would also be small. Just friends and family. Gojo is the flower girl.

It would be a wonderful wedding though. Flowers everywhere. Nanami would cry seeing you in the tux/dress. That's the first time you see him really cry. He would look so gosh dang handsome too oml.

I think he would also love renewing your vows in new beautiful locations every couple of years.

N icknames - what would they call their s/o?

I don't think he's the type to give out nicknames, so he would stick to small romantic stuff like: love, darling, dear, honey, etc. Short and sweet.

O n Cloud Nine - what are they like when they are in love? is it obvious for others? how do they express their feelings?

I think the only person it is obvious to is you. The way he looks at you isn't like how he looks at anyone else. His gorgeous eyes constantly watching your figure anytime he can.

As said earlier, he would express his love through the way he holds you with kisses and hand holding and cuddling. It would all be very small, but that's his show. He would also love whispering in your ear how much he loves you and cares about you before you go to bed.

It isn't very obvious when he's in love, but you really know he is when he is willing to hold your hand in public or even just do something as small as cook breakfast for you or softly place his hand on your hip.

P DA - are they upfront about their relationship? do they brag about their s/o to others? or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?

I think that he would do small things in public. Place his hand on your hip softly, hold your hand, give you a kiss on the cheek/neck, but nothing too crazy.

He would mention you to coworkers, but let's be real, the only person he would brag about you to is Gojo.

But typically, when he is jealous, he will straight up start making out with you to show others that you are together. He has a real jealousy problem lol.

Q uirk - some random ability they have that's beneficial in a relationship.

I cannot stress this enough, communication, communication, COMMUNICATION!

He thinks it is so important to use communication in a relationship because that effectively builds everything that's important, trust, honesty, etc. Without communication, what good is the relationship.

R omance - how romantic are they? what would they do to make their s/o happy? cliche or rather creative?

I think that Nanami is a very very very romantic individual, but nothing super duper cheesy. I mean, he loves picnics and giving you flowers, but nothing like ridiculous valentine's day stuff unless you initiate it.

He would do anything to make you happy. He wants to see you with a smile on your face always, but his go to is buying face masks and food and placing it on the table for you to find as a surprise. That and taking the day off. Nothing lights you up more.

S upport - are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? do they believe in them?

Nanami is your #1 supporter. He knows that you can achieve whatever and he will even go so far as to help you. If you need him to hold you while you work, he'll do it. If you need him to help figure out something difficult, he is right behind you. He will go to any even for you and will destroy anyone who tries to get in your way.

T hrill - do they need to try out new things to spice up your relationship? or do they prefer a certain routine?

This man is built on routine. He doesn't want anything too crazy or out of the blue. He loves his little morning routine with you and his occasional day off routine. Picnics and self care days are always the go to. he might try new things elsewhere, but this isn't the place for that lol

U nderstanding - how good do they know their partner? are they empathetic?

This man knows you like the back of his hand. If he senses you're off, he will do what he does best and try to calm you down/work with you on certain things. He knows when you need to be left alone, and he knows when you need a hug, and if he does it, he will be super empathetic and just let you do your own thing until you are willing to communicate what was wrong.

V alue - how important is the relationship to them? what is it's worth in comparison to value of other things?

He cannot live without you. It was so hard for him to find something that he could actually enjoy and love and be passionate about, so if he lost you, he literally couldn't go on. He doesn't want to go back to being the loner who overworked himself and he doesn't want to go back to his old routine. He LITERALLY cannot lose you.

W ild Card - random fluff headcanon (im actually gonna do a mini fic thingy, you'll see lol)

"Kento," you reached your arms out to him, pulling him closer. "Kento, come here." "What is it, love?" He giggled as you crawled into his arms, trying not to mess up his face mask. You looked into his eyes with the softest smile, rubbing the dark spots underneath his eyes. "They're lighting up." "Is that so?" You nodded and placed a kiss on his lips. "What would I do without you, dear?" You shrugged, eating whatever snack was closest. "Cry probably." "You were supposed to be romantic, not shoving Cheetos in your mouth." You just giggled, sinking to his touch. To be honest, you didn't know what you would do without him.

X OXO - are they very affectionate? do they love to kiss and cuddle?

YES, YES, YES!!

On his off time, the one thing he is looking forward to is falling into your arms. There literally isn't a time where you his arm isn't around you while you two are sleeping.

Y earning - how will they cope when they're missing they're s/o?

While at work, Nanami get's very stressed. You're usually one to help him out of his stress, but when you're not there, rash emotions will come quicker. But he's used to it, so it't nothing super crazy. Especially since it's only a couple of hours.

Now, let's say you went on a business trip without him. He would HATE that. He would feel alone and have that awful life is meaningless feeling again that would just rip away at him. But it honestly helps him appreciate you 10x more.

Z eal - are they willing to go to great lengths for the relationship? if so, what kind?

Nanami would do anything to make you stay. He will help you when you are upset. He will take days off for you. He will take you out to dinner. He would stay awake for a week if it meant he gets to see you all the time with a smile on your face.

I think he would be willing to sacrifice a lot because you helped him so much, and he loves you more than anything in the whole wide world.

You’re welcome. Sure, I’ll bite. Forgive the formatting here, I’m still trying to figure out how to make it all pretty. For my "favorite" I just did someone I was in the mood for tonight.

F: How would they feel if their darling fought back?

Noriaki is displeased, to put it lightly. He doesn’t understand why you won’t just behave, he’s doing everything right, by all means. If you resist him you might as well just be begging for restrictions. He doesn’t even restrict you that much, he doesn’t have any plans to kidnap you! Stop acting like he’s some obsessed creep and behave. 

H: What would be their darling’s worst experience with them?

Losing your autonomy. If you are incapable of acting right, he’ll make you act right. It’s not like it’s hard to puppet you. He knows how you talk, walk, even how you rest when you stand still for too long. And he just adores the way hierophant green looks on your wrists and ankles. 

Also the social isolation. Once you notice it, it’s too late. 

N: How would they punish their darling?

Noriaki is very, very understanding. He researched how most victims react to overbearing obsession, and to be honest, not very good results! His goal isn’t to harm you, he wants you to flourish! He punishes you socially, have you ever been talking to a group of people and one of them stops the entire conversation to chide you? Social shaming and peer pressure is killer.

Ideals: What kind of future do they have in mind for/with their darling?

Josuke wants to settle down. He’s always been sorta jealous of people who had really loving families, and sometimes family means you, your darling, and maybe a dog. He wants his darling to play house with him. 

Jealousy: Do they get jealous? Do they lash out or find a way to cope?

Only sorta. He’s cool if you show him lots of attention; He doesn’t want to be one of those overbearing boyfriends who ruins every friendship you’ve got. He’s an asshole, yeah, fucking ok, but he’s not gonna get in the way of your friends. He’s not insecure. 

On that same note, it’d drive him up the wall if you talked about another guy like he was better than him. He’s sitting right there, you absolutely cannot be serious. He blows off steam by working out, and telling himself he’s way better than that scumbag you’ve definitely got eyes for. 

Love letters: How would they go about courting or approaching their darling?

I think he inherited his father’s persistence. He can’t take a “no” for shit. He’ll go a seemingly normal route- saying he wants to spend time with you, getting your phone number, doing things he thinks people find attractive when guys do. He peacocks quite a bit, and for good reason, he’s quite handsome. He takes you out on a couple dates before he decides to properly ask, and if you say no, he’s just going to take that as a “Not yet.”

Blood: How messy are they willing to get when it comes to their darling?

Leone is prepared to kill for his darling, and that’s entirely with his hands. He doesn’t use guns, and his stand isn’t one for combat, so it’s either his bare hands or something he can bash someone’s head in with. It’ll be such a pain to get this blood out of his clothes, but he really doesn’t care. He has a job. He can buy new clothes. He can’t buy a new you.

Quit: If their darling dies, leaves, or successfully escapes, would they ever be able to move on?

Never. If his darling died while under his care, he’d kill himself. End of story. What’s the point in keeping his life if he let you rot? He’s a disgusting excuse for a man, he should’ve never gotten impatient and snatched you up. If you ever escaped successfully, it wouldn’t be for long. He’d brood for a week or so- that’s your period to get the fuck out of the country- and then go hunting for the only thing keeping him going. 

Xoanon: How much would they revere or worship their darling? To what length would they go to win their darling over?

Total reverence. Leone absolutely adores you, you make him a better man. He pretties himself up entirely for you- you’re his main motivation for everything. He can’t be lazy, who wants a lazy boyfriend? He can’t be so slovenly, who wants to make out with that? Leone gets rather meticulous about his makeup, Mista’s rushed him out of their shared bathroom more times than he can remember. Get a vanity, man, you’re interfering with poor Mista’s schedule. 

Leone loves to just sit and watch you. He gives you space, careful not to step on your metaphorical toes, and just sits quietly to watch. He won’t look away if you look over while he’s giving you that stupid, lovestruck stare. He’s so lucky he gets to witness you. Your every need is taken care of, he’ll even get down on the ground to rub your feet if you told him to- as long as you’re doing what he wants. If you break his fantasy of you actually liking him, he falls into a bit of a depressive rut, and slacks a bit with your needs.

this was more last season but there’s a bunch of guys in utica that, every time he goes over the boards for a shift, chant a call-and-response of “who’s out?” “bahls out!” and it is beautiful
