I'm actively working on "Home sweet home" and "Thorns", but I also have a few stories at planning stage with various titles.

2. 🍄Describe your WIP/one of your WIP(s) in the format of “___ + ___ =___”

Hallmark movie + snowbaz = a lovely mess

3. 🌍What tags or warnings will one of your WIP(s) need if you intend to share it?

The drarry one has PTSD as a warning, the snowbaz one has Fiona's mad chihuahua and a very thirsty Simon + Baz. And Dev deserves a tag for himself, as per usual.

4. 🧭An alternative title to one of your WIP(s)?

I've got one with an interesting temporary title, but I don't know if I'm going to post it for an anon fest, so I can't share it.

Let's go for the snowbaz one "The veil opens again" (the title will most likely change - it's set 20 years in the future when the veil opens and married snowbaz with their kids visit Watford, so that Baz can see Natasha again, and then Lucy also appears).

5. ⚠️Which WIP your most likely to finish or update next?

I'm trying to work on alternate weeks on my drarry and snowbaz BB, also because one is kind of angsty and the other one pretty light, so it's easier for my mood. The snowbaz will post first because it's due sooner.

6. 💾What is your document of your WIP/ a WIP called? (not the stories actual title but what you’ve saved it as)

They're organised by fandom, and the folders usually have the title of the fic, unless I haven't decided on a title yet. I have a "multiverse" one and a "soulmates" folder.

Drarry - “I forgot to mention that I’m an Unspeakable,” Draco says.

Snowbaz - “Well, I would kiss you.” I don’t know why I said that. Fuck.

Some super angsty subplot that I decided to ditch because it made me want to cry. 😭

9. 🤔What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?

I'd love to write a drarry multiverse, but I also have a couple of drarry fics that I've planned but haven't got the chance to start writing yet (one is a soulmate fic and the other one features professional scapegoat Draco). As for snowbaz, I'd love to write another AU.

I'm actively working on 2 - my drarry and snowbaz BB fics.

Draco is being a lot softer than he was meant to be, and Harry was supposed to be angrier, so I'm struggling a bit with a scene, but I'm getting there (I hope).

Arg! I'd hoped to spend sometime planting the pretty flowers I bought yesterday but to my dismay I discovered an invasive weed was mixed in with my Shasta Daisies, which are just about to bloom. The kind of weed that attaches to your clothes and skin. Gloves came out and two hours later, I made a huge dent. Flowers tomorrow.

I had mentioned there were would be additional categories I'd throw into the mix and today I have one I've been anxious to get to. I'm going to call it Magical Elves. They are the people who help make fandom run. I mentioned @phoenixacid in an earlier post, who has been hosting @hd-fan-fair for ten years. This category will cover folks like her and that do even more...yes, even more...

What I'm reading:

On the Discord Drarry Fans Writers and Artists there is a channel for recs. I stole this one from there but then discovered I'd already read it. However, it was long enough ago that I don't remember all of the details. I think I read it when it first came out and before I hopped back into fandom in spring of 2021. The Ordeal of Being Known (146k) by @lou-isfake. I'm only on chapter 3 right now but I just love this Draco and his Oscar the Grouch house-slippers and his house-elf Timsy. The writing is so fresh and clever, I find myself smiling most of the time. Here's the summary, which I think gives you a flavor of the writing style I'm talking about:

When Auror Potter is anonymously cursed with silence by being forced to hide his own voice inside his mind, there's unfortunately only one person in the country with the qualifications to fix it: Certified and Licensed Healer Legilimens, Draco Malfoy, specialist in Mind Curses and Afflictions. It's obviously a terrible idea, a disaster waiting to happen, but Draco's never been able to back down from a challenge... especially from Potter. Features fuzzy cartoon slippers, devious house elves, 90s music, and lots—LOTS—of memories. Ron is annoyingly hot, Hermione sees right through you, Harry is a powerful idiot, and Draco is a reclusive masochist that would buy an entire city if it would make a kid happy. (And Pansy is "5'2, I wanna dance with you, and I'm sophisticated fun.")

The first person I want to highlight in this category is actually someone I've met in person at HP Cons and we've stayed in touch over the years in real life. *hugs darlin* You've probably seen @sassy-cissa's name as an author or maybe an email asking you about a fic for a fest but I'm betting most of you have no idea how much she's done for fandom for more than a decade and half, especially for Drarry fandom.

Let me list the ways in how awesome she is:

The prophet soon closed down after a few more months due to lack of participation (fandom had moved away from LJ).

i guess this hell has the angstiest ending? not to spoil, bc i haven't posted the whole thing. but none of my fics are angsty, really!

Hello, Lovelies!

Karma here, for a sec, with an event update. (shocking)

For some background, the original intent of the WIP Project was to give AU Fest a bit of a break because AU Fest is so good at spawning bunnies and a lot of people are so busy during the later part of the summer/early fall, that some things just don't get finished. So it was proposed that I give AU Fest a rest this year and do something new and different (tada~~).

We (me and the other mods) thought a sign-up event would be best at the time because that way we could make snazzy completion graphics and other fun things at the end, and we could send out weekly encouragement. Then we started talking and kind of started not really liking the sign up so much.

So, the WIP Project is now an OPEN EVENT.

What does that mean?! Mostly, you do not need to sign up to participate in the WIP Project. If you have a Codywan WIP (as defined by the Project), then you are more than welcome to play along.

If you want sparkly (not really) completion graphics, or a banner or something for tumblr (we're still not sure what we're doing yet?), you will still need to sign up, but there's gonna be a different form that I need to get around to creating at some point before October. ;D

If you've already signed up: Party on! You're all good to go and we'll keep your preferences in mind and keep touching base with you.

If you didn't sign up: Follow the blog for encouragement, writing memes...stuff.

Around September we'll put out a call for writers who want to share snippets of their work, artists who may want to show off some part of their sketch (or progress work), podficcers who want to share a clip of what they're working on, anything and everything else.

hello anon!

i know i have a lot of wips to get back to as well—forever my curse—so i totally get wanting to wait until something is finished to be invested or being generally apprehensive to start a WIP, but i want to put this out there again because i’ve been seeing a lot of these kinds of comments lately, not just regarding my work but some other peoples’ as well. i hope it doesn’t come across as pointed or passive aggressive, but:

it’s not really up to the readers or audience to dictate when something should be updated/posted/etc., simply because they want it to be. and consistently asking or hinting about wanting an update or even saying you might not read something just because it’s a wip isn’t very motivating for the author, even if it’s done with the intention of portraying hopefulness or encouragement.

not to be repetitive on my end or list out excuses, but in regards to why i have so many wips, i’m just a busy person and i have a lot on my plate. as i assume a lot of other people with wips are—at least partially.

as i’ve shared previously, i work a full time job, i do art and other creative things, i have a decently active social life, i also have issues with my mental and physical health that take time away from things i’d rather be doing / make things generally harder for me to do a lot of the time. i just have a lot on my plate 99% of the time besides the fact that most of my writing is done for fic fests, and because my pieces tend to fall on the actual book length end of things, i often fall behind when i don’t mean or want to.

it doesn’t help that i was also overly ambitious last year signing up for fests and didn’t consider how much time i’d actually need to write anything—plus, sometimes you just get stuck on stuff even when you know exactly how you’d like it to go, and that can affect your writing process just as much as not having the time, having other things that need tending to, what have you.

and ultimately, writing is still just a hobby of mine! despite my dedication, i don’t want to turn it into a chore just so i can force myself to constantly put stuff out. and i can’t write when i don’t have the motivation or want to; what i put out when i force myself is absolute garbage and takes more time to fix and rewrite than just waiting to write until i’m in the right headspace.

in terms of my 1d fics, i still intend to finish all of them. just as i’ve said before, i just can’t give clear timelines as to when for xyz numerous reasons, many of which i’ve already touched on.

and my dear anon, i 100% understand why people may not like to read wips out of fear they won’t be finished, or may wait until something is done to read it for that reason—i’ve done it too! guilty as charged!—but consistently or at least on more than one occasion asking for assurances that something is going to be finished, especially when an author has made such assurances that something will be updated/finished (which i very much try to do!) but has something going on which is preventing a timely update from happening, very likely isn’t going to help with that update coming sooner.

for the record, i do very much appreciate your passion and desire to keep reading my work! with this current fic, i’m spending my time after work, as well as on my days off where i actually don’t have anything going on, continuing to write and edit. i’ll also be finishing it before going back and working down my wip list just because i’ve been so proactive and motivated with working on it. if you’d still like to read but would like to wait, or whatever you may choose to do, go ahead! but i am actively and continually working to finish it before i go back to finish other pieces!

apologies for dumping this all in my reply to you—especially as i’m assuming you’ve already inquired about my wips before. this is just really the last time i plan to touch on this topic, and concerning any potential messages i get on this topic from anyone in the future, i don’t think i will be answering them.

tldr: anyway, anon, i once again do thank you for reading my work and liking it so much you feel compelled to check in on updates! all i can do though is assure you that despite the gaps in time you see between updates, my intention is always to finish my works (at least for this community). if that ever changes, i will make an announcement, but i don’t count on that happening anytime soon.

My 2020 Reading List - Dramione

This year, I’ve read way more dramione than I’ve ever read, and I’ve been reading it for 7 years now. I even read things, tropes, I had never bothered with before. 2020 may not have been a kind year, but in the dramione community it has been a wonderful year of reading for me. Please be aware I may spoil some plot lines to dramione fanfictions you haven’t read yet. I have tried not to as best as I can. But anyway below is 20 fics I’ve read this year that have been there for me when I needed them. No particular order. Just a lot of love for these fics.

Wait and Hope - by @mightbewriting - memory loss is one of my favourite tropes but this story. I have never cried over a couch before. But this story. From the moment she first awakes in St Mungo’s to that beautiful ending, I was hooked. I loved how the story left me with not really a care about whether or not Hermione got her memories back. Those bloody text messages 💔 a journey I’ll never forget.

The Unofficial Diary of an Omega - MrsRen - my first time reading anything omegaverse. It still isn’t my favourite trope. I much prefer Veela for some reason 🤷🏻‍♀️ but overall it was a good story, just not my thing.

Apple Pies and Other Amends by ToEatAPeach - I actually gave up on this story the first time I read it. Unsure as to why because the story as a whole is just amazing. Baking and dramione? Yes please! Also dealing with their psychological trauma after the war? Heck yes! The relationship in this story develops at a lovely pace. There were moments I was on edge, others I was smiling ear to ear whilst reading this. Definitely one of my favourites now.

In Search Of Sunrise - @indreamsink - actually just reread this and I still get that warm feeling in my chest. So turns out my break up hasn’t made me lose the ability to enjoy dramione falling for each other. Anyway, the story was so heartwarming, like if I were to describe it as anything I would describe it as a hug. The best non-date fic there is.

Sex and Occlumency - Graendoll - this was the start of my slippery slope into reading smut stories. Like I had read smut before, obviously but I didn’t pay it much attention, normally just swiped past 😂 but this one was a completely different story.

Manacled - @senlinyu - this is truly the most beautifully haunting story I’ve ever read. I remember when I first started reading it, I thought to myself, how the hell could I ever ship dramione in this world? Then those flashbacks. Fuck those flashback chapters were a punch in the gut. The way everything links and connects. I love it’s realistic ending. I often think of this story in the shower cause I had to force myself to go shower whilst I read this cause I honestly couldn’t put it down. And SPOILER, but I laughed so hard at a certain characters death even though I probably shouldn’t have but she was such a bitch. I get flashbacks myself of this story. I’ll be in the shower and I’ll remember a certain sentence, a certain scene in my head as if I truly walked with Hermione on this heart wrenching journey. But fuck manacled Harry, I hate that boy.

He Becomes by @abromaposts - I needed this story. This was the first thing I read after Manacled. Draco Malfoy looking after rabbits with the sole reason being to get close to Hermione, yes please. Rabbits are my favourite animals. It’s just so much fluff. And after Manacled I was grateful.

The Right Thing To Do - @lovesbitca8 - this was the bookshop, slow burn, fluffiness I needed in the summer. The start of a truly wonderful universe. Idiots in love, I’ve never went through so much second hand embarrassment. Every interaction between Hermione and Lucius was fantastic. Especially the final one! Every character was written to a way that I loved them so much. Plus this story makes you think (like the rest of the series) it doesn’t spoon fed you information.

All The Wrong Things - @lovesbitca8 - I never thought I’d be into first person POV. The last thing I read like that was The Hunger Games back in school, many years ago. But I truly felt as if Draco were telling me the story. I love how it filled in things we never seen in the first story. I love Draco’s characterisation. Unlike TRTTD, this feels more lighthearted. Could just be the horny Draco though and his dramatics?

The Auction - @lovesbitca8 - this story. where do I start? When I started reading this story I was in a completely different life. This story has seen me through a terrible time in my life. Honestly the last few chapters before the final chapter were a blur and I had to go and reread them cause my head was all over the place but the story. This story, on it’s own, I would say is better than any fiction I’ve ever read 🤷🏻‍♀️ it grips you, pulls you in. Every question you ask, you get answered with a ribbon and bow. I cannot express my love, for this story and for the hard work that has went into it. The characters in this world so vastly different yet similar to the ones we already learned to love. I could write a love letter to this story.

Hindsight by @floorcoaster - if you haven’t been following this year long, monthly updated story, then you’ve really missed out. Each chapter is a month of the year. The story starts with Hermione planning to trim down her calendar for the year ahead. Although it’s fiction it gave me a sense of hope for my future. I had started this year on a different note than Hermione, and I’m now ending it on a different note as well. I think this story does a good job of capturing the passage of time and just how quickly things can change. I also really love these adorable idiots in this story.

Bring Him To His Knees by @willhavetheirtrinkets (WIP) - the best co-worker, friends to lovers, fake relationship story I’ve read. No question. I sent @magicaltraveler3 a tearful voice memo after that last chapter that was posted (chapter 20). It isn’t the first time I’ve cried at a fanfic, but it is the first time that I predicted something bad would happen, but I didn’t expect the bad thing to be what it was. I can’t wait to see where this story goes. At this point I have completely forgot about the murder plot. I know it exists, and we’ll get back to the murder but I’d honestly read the characters in this story eating breakfast.

The Flat In Bath by @adaprix (WIP) - this was the first story I got into that ada has wrote. Instantly I was fascinated with the use of “flat” over “apartment”. Being Scottish I knew this was someone British. Anyway, a very interesting story and I can’t wait to see how the rest of it plays out.

Good by @lovesbitca8 - I am dying for the update of this story. As so many are, it is 🔥🔥🔥 all I can say. I can’t wait for the update!

The Erised Effect by @adaprix - When ada first told me she was thinking about writing a story about Pansy and Hermione working in a sex shop together. Telling me about having the idea of them meeting in the pub and how she “needed to get some filthy smut out of your system”. I didn’t think it would be my thing. Boy, did she prove me wrong!

The Cell by WrathOfMacy - I don’t know how I came to read this one. But damn, this was a good one (who am I kidding they’re all good ones). I’m still reading through it though. It’s a warfic in which Dramione end up locked in a cell together. The relationship builds nicely. I cannot wait to read more of it.

The Melody Of Touch by @magicaltraveler3 - I never knew I needed a dramione story like this story. I love that there is so much musical imagery incorporated into it. I haven’t read anything like it before. The story, the smut, the taxi and the freaking art work. It is everything!

Every Day, a Little Death by @lovesbitca8 - I’ll be honest with this one. I read the first chapter and the last chapter 🙈 BUT only cause everyone scared me so much. I plan to revisit. SPOILER. I may not care too much that Hermione cheated. Just me? Like yeah I hate cheating and she shouldn’t have done it, but like she admitted to it, and was very regretful for it. Anyway, the chapters I read were very interesting I look forward to revisiting it sometime.

Away by @indreamsink - written for the romcom fest and I got to say I think this one may be my favourite from the fest. Not only do you get dramione but you get the amazing side pairing of Harry/Pansy, which this year has really became my favourite side pairing. It’s like reading two love stories at once, I was interested in the dramione plot line obviously, but I was equally interested in the hansy/potts&pans plot line.

The Path Unexpected by @magicaltraveler3 - this story is a cute little domestic dramione fanfic. And I lived for it. It shows dramione going through the process of having a child and honestly, they’re so damn cute in this fic. The fanart is next level also!

My Year In Review: My Writing

Last year I saw some of my favourite writers do a summary of their own year and decided I wanted to do that too. So I was determined to write as much as possible, and even though 2021 was a busy year for me in my personal life, I managed to write a lot. I could not necessarily write as much as I planned according to my original goals because I was supposed to have more free time after getting my degree and before starting to work, but life got in the way, and that could be sensed in my writing as well. Or lack thereof.

I published 8 fics and wrote a total of 93144 words that were published.

Of course, not including my thesis, which is not fanfiction or fiction, even though I was a fan of my topic, which I spent plenty of time on. I also got that little smudge in front of my name, which I'm proud of, but to earn that the process took the life out of me. Almost literally...

I participated in 5 fests this year.

I had to suspend work indefinitely on my fic I was the most excited about, which means there are more than 22000 words that wait to be continued, as I didn't even reach the finish of the introduction part of the story. So if I ever finish it, this will be a long one. Or at least long in my interpretation.

My longest and most well-received work is a WIP, and my second shortest fic is the second in terms of hits and kudos. The ones I expected to perform well... well... they did not. 🤣

That clearly indicates I have a lot to work on my writing. And on creating cover art or mood boards, which ugh... I deeply detest.

WIP Wednesday

I wrote this last night and really don’t know where I’m going with it because I wrote another section of this that’s completely different from this first part, but I’m having too much fun so this might become a long oneshot or like a two/three chapter short fic eventually. I signed into my Guild Wars account for the first time in forever to watch the chat and apparently Lion’s Arch isn’t as interesting as it used to be. Not that any of that is really relevant. 

This is Zelda and the Champions as internet friends playing a MMORPG video game called Hyrule Warriors.

Zelda Harkinian loved Fridays. Not that it was a rare thing to be obsessed with the weekend, but she maybe loved it a little too much. After a week of lesson plans, and cleaning the classrooms, and sneezing students, and emails asking for an extension on a paper that wasn’t even due yet, she relished the escape the weekend provided. Granted, she still had to grade about a hundred tests, but that was a problem for Sunday or even Monday.

Smiling down at her roommate, a kitten she’d raised when she found it in the street all alone, Zelda fed her girl—whom she’d named Duchess because she had every intent of treating her like royalty—and played with her for a bit before throwing down her bag in her room and then grabbed a water and a granola bar before heading to her desk. She flipped her laptop open and booting up Hyrule Warriors, her favorite open world MMORPG.

Her internet sucked, so she grabbed her phone to aimlessly scroll to see if there was any news or updates. But it was pretty dull.

Instead, she thought back to how this whole weekend ritual began.

She’d been in a cavern just off of Death Mountain for about three days killing fire keese, lizalfos, and beamos. As a mage, her AOE skills made short work of the larger groups, hitting them all at once. It was especially useful here because her main specialties were water and light, but she struggled when boss fights came out. The NPCs weren’t great teammates, and she constantly found herself resurrecting far from the boss, only to make a long run with a health penalty that ended with her getting killed again, until her heath penalty was maxed out and she had to restart for any hope of succeeding. As a mage, her light armor made her vulnerable to physical attacks, and this boss was very physical.

Zelda didn’t like interacting with people in this game. It was massively popular, and the chat was always running. Sometimes, she’d just sit at an outpost and watch people talk. Her favorite interactions were often the random ones. She’d begun to look up the acronyms everyone used in chat just to understand them better. WTS= want to sell.

But after her days of suffering in the lonely caverns in Death Mountain, she relented.

A quick search had her hands shaking, but she typed quickly so she couldn’t back out after she’d hit enter.

xPrincessZx: LFG Dodongo’s Cavern

Holding her breath, she’d waited in the hopes of a private message being sent to her.

One did.

(PM): ThunderstruckQueen: What missin are doing there?

(PM): ThunderstruckQueen: Mission*

(PM): xPrincessZx: I have to kill the Dodongo boss for the main story

ThunderstruckQueen would like to join your party.

Biting her nails, she’d accepted.

(PM): RockRoast12345: Still need someone?

(PM): xPrincessZx: Yes! That would be great! Thanks!

RockRoast12345 would like to join your party.

That had been how it started: A goron warrior with a Warhammer and some serious defensive moves joined as the tank to take as much damage for the team as he could stand, and a Gerudo Paladin had joined her party. Zelda was jealous of the purchase-only red hairstyle the Gerudo had for her character. She had a sword and shield, but her body flickered with elemental lightening magic. In-game purchase effects.

They’d defeated Dodongo with ease, and had gone on several missions together that day, taking down their storylines with relative ease. But they couldn’t function with the NPC healer who barely functioned at all.

So, ThunderstruckQueen had taken to the map chat and put out a request.

ThunderstruckQueen: I found someone. She’s a Zora Cleric. Level 40

RockRoast12345: Let her in! I want to get this one over with

Rutella Zoran IV would like to join your party.

After that, the four of them realized they worked so well together that they’d formed a guild. The Champions. ThunderstruckQueen paid the guild fee, bought a hall, and began decorating it with merchants, and chests. Zelda still shuddered, wondering what she did to have so many rupees ready to go. Needless to say, she made herself the leader.

Some days, they didn’t play together. Other times, only two of them were on. But on weekends, they all came together.

But it had been a Monday when Zelda played, and she’d been alone. Having already tossed her tissue box across her room in frustration, she debated making a new character with more defense, but she sucked it up and went into the Castle Town map, ready to ask for help. She couldn’t wait until she could get to be a higher level. As it was, she’d only gotten to these level 40 areas as a 32 because of Rutella.

Suddenly, a random Hylian man in green with a fancy sword and shield ran up to her and bowed. Zelda scoffed at her computer screen, unsure if she was supposed to respond.

She didn’t need to.

(PM): WildKnightOut2: Hey Princess

(PM): xPrincessZx: Hello?

(PM): WildKnightOut2: Jst wondering if u have a spare flower crown from yesterday’s festival. Missed it. Will pay

Zelda pulled up her inventory, forgetting she was still wearing her flower crown from the Flower Fest. It must have been what tipped him off. In fact, she had four spares.

(PM): zPrincessZx:  Yeah, I do. Come to the chest and I’ll trade.

(PM): WildKnightOut2: Thx

She’d never done a trade with anyone who wasn’t in her guild, so she’d felt nervous running to grab it.

(PM): WildKnightOut2: How much u want?

(PM): xPrincessZx: Actually, I’ll give it to you free if you’re willing to help me with a quest? Or 10k.

WildKnightOut2 would like to join your party.

She accepted and watched his character appear in the corner of her screen.

WildKnightOut2: That’s a rip off, btw. Crowns are with 15k at least. Don’t undersell

xPrincessZx: Thanks. I didn’t realize. I’m still kind of new.

WildKnightOut2: Howd u get out here then?

xPrincessZx: I had a run from a friend in my guild.

WildKnightOut2: Got room for a warrior in there?

Zelda introduced him to the other Champions when they’d signed back on, and after a few weeks, Zelda had leveled up enough that she didn’t need to constantly rely on a teammate. But still. She liked Wild the best after ThunderstruckQueen.

They’d brought in a Rito Ranger named TheBestYouveNeverMet, which immediately set Wild off.

(PM): WildKnightOut2: should I aggro a group over so he has to fight them for us?

(PM): xPrincessZx: No! Don’t do that! I’ll get sent over to deal with them!

(PM): xPrincessZx: HEY! I SEE YOU ON THE MAP!

(PM): xPrincessZx: WILD GET BACK TO THE GROUP

On the mini-map, she saw a hoard of red coming at them and rolled her eyes before joining TheBest to kill them with area attacks. Rutella stayed back to heal them, but Thunder and Rock both continued on, unfazed.

ThunderstruckQueen: Wild you’re an idiot

But that was then. This was now.

They’d been together for months as a guild, and now, the six of them knew how the others worked.

If Wild or TheBest took off on their own, no one would follow. They’d both been killed numerous times in an attempt to piss the other off. Zelda had learned to stay with Thunder and Rock. Rutella flitted between running back to revive the idiots, or sticking with the smarter members while letting them heal on their own.

(PM): WildKnightOut2: u wound me

Zelda chuckled, but he wasn’t done.

(PM): WildKnightOut2: After all ive done for u

(PM): WildKnightOut2: u leave me to die

(PM): xPrincessZx: Don’t run off next time

It was a Wednesday when she and Wild were playing alone, so they freely used party chat for ease. She’d surpassed his level, and towered as a 93 while he was an 87.

WildKnightOut2: Hang on. Fuzzball wants food

Zelda stared at his character on her screen, wondering if he looked anything like that avatar. Blonde hair, muscular, piercing blue eyes. She’d made her character look like herself, so it wasn’t hard to imagine others had. Plus, he was the only Hylian. She highly doubted that RockRoast12345 was actually a giant rock-man, or that Rutella Zoran IV was a short fish lady.

She knew everything about these people except their names, faces, and voices.

She knew that ThunderstruckQueen was a single mother who called her daughter Ri on chat. She was a chief of police, and had a few hundred of her force to look out for. Still, she wanted to quit soon to join the military reserve forces now that her daughter was getting older. Devoted and loyal, Thunder occasionally snapped when everyone would start fighting with each other, though it was usually directed at TheBest and Wild, the annoyance sometimes extended out to others.

She knew that RockRoast12345 was older than all of them and had a young grandson. He’d bonded with Thunder over their children at first, and then, without meaning to, they became the parents of the group. Recently, Rock had retired from working as a supervisor in a mine, and gaming had become his way of relieving some of that boredom. But he told the best stories when they were idling around, just stories about anything, and they were always captivating. Also, he was afraid of dogs.

She knew that Rutella Zoran IV was the daughter of a politician. She cared for her little brother like he was her own, and sometimes, he took control of her character, proudly revealing that his real name was Sidon. She was in school to be a doctor, and that made her family prouder than anything. She lived and breathed for her family.

TheBestYouveNeverMet was a pilot. His schedule was the most hectic out of everyone’s because of the flights, but he was sarcastic to the core, and sometimes, the sarcasm was simply rude and definitely didn’t translate well over chat. He was superior, and since he’d been playing the game longest, he thought it entitled him to make more decisions. But Zelda knew from her private conversations with him that deep down, he was sweet and caring. He’d always be the first to ask her how her day was, and he’d learned some of her students’ names to ask if they’d been nuisances.

But Zelda spent the most time talking to WildKnightOut2, so she knew the most about him. At first, they’d bonded over the fact that they both had cats. His was called Fuzzball, an orange, fat cat that needed to exercise more. He’d tried to leash him, but Fuzz wasn’t interested. Sometimes, Fuzz would crawl over the keys, send Wild running, and send chat a long stream of letters.

He was funny and made comments in her private chat while they were playing that had her roaring at times.

He was a rock-climbing instructor and in his free time, he was a free solo climber. When she’d looked it up, she’d been horrified to see that he basically climbed mountains without a harness or ropes, and a fall could kill him. She’d asked if he was good at it, or just did it for fun, and his answer had been an ambiguous “yes.”

She knew about his family. He didn’t live near them, but he kept in contact with his grandparents, his father, and his little sister.

WildKnightOut2: k back. Where we going princess?

xPrincessZx: I need to farm for new armor out in the Haunted Wasteland. Do you need to do anything?

WildKnightOut2: I need to help u farm in the haunted wasteland. What do you need?

xPrincessZx: 10 Rubies

WildKnightOut2: damn ok I have 2 u can have so u only need 8

xPrincessZx: Thanks. How’d that party go last night?

WildKnightOut2: Sucked

xPrincessZx: Cool details

WildKnightOut2: If ud been there, ud have hated it

xPrincessZx: Why?

WildKnightOut2: Bunch of self-absorbed idiots. Like TheBest is

xPrincessZx: Lol. He’s not that bad.

They headed into the Wasteland looking for red poes that had rare drops for rubies. She and Wild took out a few groups before they started to struggle. Neither could play and talk at the same time fast enough to warn the other that something was happening, and they both ended up at the shrine of resurrection more times than they cared to admit.

xPrincessZx: Hey Wild. This might sound weird, but do you have that gaming app where we could just maybe voice chat?

xPrincessZx: Unless you’re not comfortable with that. We can invite the others, and when we play together, and it would probably make life a thousand times easier

xPrincessZx: But it’s okay if you don’t want to

WildKnightOut2: yeah I have it

Oh, Zelda thought to herself. That was easy.

xPrincessZx: Do you want to add me? I have the same name

She watched her phone like it was food in the microwave, only occasionally glancing at her computer to see if Wild had sent her another message. She drummed her fingers and her leg started to bounce until her screen lit up.

WildKnight has sent you a friend request.

She hastily hit accept and grabbed her headphones from the drawer before typing into her phone.

xPrincessZx: Your name is missing a few things here.

WildKnight: Yeah HW already had someone with this name so I added on

xPrincessZx: The meaning completely changes

WildKnight: which do you like better?

Zelda froze, unable to make her fingers type. Was he flirting? Was that how people flirted online? She was really good at reading body language cues, and that was always how she knew someone was flirting. But this? There was no context! How was she supposed to know?

xPrincessZx: Which fits your personality more?

That was a safe way of getting out of answering while still sounding maybe like she was flirting. Right?

WildKnight: this one

Zelda’s face warmed up and she put her head in her hands, unsure how to respond. How does she respond to that? What if he wasn’t flirting? What if he was.

I’ve been reading heavily in the Merlin and Untamed fandoms lately, but I still read One Direction fic if I like the author and/or descriptions and such--here’s what I read slash enjoyed in the h/l category posted in February, many of them *very* new authors, which is always great to see, most of them short as well, which is a win win win! (note: there’s also been some AMAZING trans Harry/other pairings this month, too):

I'm a Mess Right Now, So Baby Help Me Out, maddd13, 1.2k. “Harry's frustrated after a bad interview. Louis bends him over the counter to make him feel better.” NUFF SAID, this feels like a PWP from 2013 in the very best way.

Come a Little Closer, It's Alright, @andtheywerebandmates, 1.7k. I love this fic so much, trans Louis and genderfluid Harry, part of a series, which makes me thank the ao3 gods above for the subscribe button. 

There's Fur Everywhere, LadyLondonderry, 4k. Five times Harry was confused about a bunch of fur in his never-locked car and one time he realizes it's because Louis's a werewolf. Love a good crack fic.

Is It Okay? larry_hiatus, 4k. Gimme gimme gimme Harry exploring nail polish, panties, and makeup and feeling slightly insecure (don’t know what for) about it.

Don't Get Me Wrong, @kingsofeverything, 5k. I can't help but hope a future timestamp shows how Louis's actually a master artist in the future, his terrible high school art is so hashtag relatable (only currently for me, too). 

Tired, habitxgolden91, 6.2k. Harry's insecure (don't know what for, no, I will NEVER STOP), but some dirty talk pulls him right out of it.

blue with the heart of a popsicle, @loveroflou, 6.9k. Sick fic mixed in with some gender exploration is a-okay in my book! The author also just posted Bloom, another soft exploration of gender, this time with flowers, too. Bliss!

Hi! I exist! LMAO. Anyway, this year has been weird, but I have gotten a lot out of it. I started writing fic a little over a year ago, and I didn’t think I would end up here, but I’m kind of glad I did! I was inspired to write more by a lovely supportive group of people on the Love, Victor fic lovers discord server! And now, I actually have five things (not all fic and not all lv) to share which I wrote this year, and that is pretty epic. So here they are!

Hurricane - A Love, Victor Story

This is the first fic I wrote for Love, Victor. It goes through each of the other major characters’ perspectives throughout season 1 as well as going into the aftermath at the end. It is a long WIP that I have already finished writing but plan to update twice weekly! It was super fun to write, and I’m really proud of the end result. It will be 72 chapters in total and I have released 11, so there is much more to come!

Ok so this one. I love this one. It is the first thing I wrote after joining the lv fic lovers server, and I think it might some of my very best writing ever. I wrote it for Benji’s birthday because they seemed to like writing fics for special occasions, and it turned out so freaking well. I’m just incredibly happy that the people in the server encouraged me to write more because if they didn’t, this one shot would not exist, and that would be sad.

Stolen Hearts and Holiday Seasons

This is my fic for the Venji fic fest: Holidays 2020. It is four chapters, and each is based off of a Taylor Swift song that has something to do with Christmas or New Year’s. It is my most recent fic, and I am so glad that I wrote it because it was super fun and extremely fluffy. But it was really fun to write and I finished it recently.

The Story of TJ and Cyrus

So I started writing this one in June/July last year and didn’t finish it until February this year oops haha. But it still counts as this year. This is my Andi Mack fic (on ff.net because I didn’t have an ao3 account yet), and it is my only complete long multi-chapter work. It is 20 chapters of approximately 3000 words each. This was a lot of fun to write, and it’s actually a pretty cute story. It was the first fanfiction I have ever seen through to the end, and I am really proud of how it turned out.

“Are You Gay?”

This one is not a fic. This is literally my life story condensed into 1500 words and 9 pages in a book by Steven Skelley called Gay Heartbreak and Triumph. It is a collection of life stories of gay men, by gay men. I was extremely happy to have had the opportunity to write this and submit it for publication in the book. Sharing one’s personal story can be a really difficult thing to do, and I found the courage to share mine with the world. The book was released a couple of weeks ago, and I bought I copy immediately. I haven’t even read it yet; that’s how new it is. But I can’t wait to do so, and I hope that this book can help some people feel valid and accept themselves. You will have to buy the book to read this one (it is available online and paperback).

2019 Year in Review

@dafan7711 tagged me in a very lovely invitation to give a year in review of my writing and I honestly have no idea how to explain what I’ve accomplished in terms of fandom this year, because it has been such a weird and unexpected new endeavor for me (I just barely started sharing my writing in 2018, so I’ve got no frame of reference, really).

Writing

If I look at my AO3 stats, I’ve published 212,569 words this year and...well...that seems unbelievable to me! It took me six years to finish a PhD program and a 150-page dissertation, but I’ve basically written three times that this year alone, and have so much more to go in my three main WIP series...

Lost and Found: The Misadventures of Marian Hawke and Everyone She Meets is my oldest published DA fan fiction child (always incomplete), and it is still my favorite, most of the time, even though my progress on it has not been the most consistent this year (a theme...). It is sort of AUish, with a major break from canon at the end of DA2 that sort of sets the rest of the series in motion. This year, I’ve been mostly writing the middle section, wherein Fenris and Hawke realize their mutual love and grief for Anders and each other...and it’s kind of an angst fest, but with an already-spoilered happy ridiculous ending for everyone (well, at least I think it’s pretty happy). A lot of the later stuff I wrote first, and I’m kind of impatient to get to it in the subsequent parts of the series. So when you see me posting random fenhanders domestic fluff, it’s because I lack any kind of discipline or self-control.

Dread Moon was a collaborative effort with a dear friend who, like me, was pretty new to writing and sharing it. I absolutely loved the sort of gentle, collaborative, constructive process we developed and the way the series has lent itself to our continued, more distant collaboration on two separate, but related and concurrent spin-offs. It’s a different world state from my Lost and Found series, more canonical (except where it isn’t), and involves more of the Inquisition characters. It allowed me to play with some different situations and relationships, and it was great to have someone else’s brain to pick and work with. The accountability of having someone else waiting for me to finish a section so they could write the next did wonders for my productivity, as well! I stole an OC from my collaborator and now I’m mostly focused on writing his and Anders’ fluffy love story, In Deep, in that series.

But of course, in developing my parts of the story for Dread Moon, I realized I needed a Solona Amell, which prompted me to replay Origins for its tenth anniversary. Then, of course, I realized I needed an Origins series to collect all my head canon for that, and so my newest series, Solona Amell and the Rogue Wardens of Ferelden was born. This will eventually overlap with Dread Moon when Anders and Alarion regroup with the missing Wardens. Not sure how I’m going to organize that. I’ve got so many feelings about my Amell and her wife, Divine Victoria...and Alistair, and Morrigan, and everyone else!

Reading

I have not been nearly so productive in my reading of others’ stuff, and it kills me, because I love to read and appreciate and leave comments on fics (it’s what got me started sharing my own writing, after all!), but it can be very hard for me, as the mother of a toddler, to find the time/focus/justification to sit down and read (whereas my writing brain is seemingly always engaged and ready to jot down a hundred ideas at once on whatever I can get my hands on). I have a very dear friend who recently published her second novel in a trilogy. I devoured her first book (I was given an ARC to check for stuff her editor missed) in one night, and have yet to even read the second, and the guilt can be so overwhelming! I feel the same way about some of the fan fics I’ve not been keeping up with, so I’m committing to spending most of January focusing more on reading than on writing (though it would be impossible for me to stop writing altogether)! Apologies in advance for annoying comments on all your old stuff!

Community

Stealing this format from other people, but I really love this aspect of the year in review. I’ve tried to get more involved in the DA fandom community, even though I still don’t really feel like I “get it” in the sense of how tumblr works, how best to share my stuff or stuff I like from other people, but I appreciate tags like this one. I am pretty easily intimidated in these spaces (which, if you knew me IRL, might surprise you), so I have yet to really jump into some of the aspects of this community for fear of not being able to find the time to keep up with stuff at the level of excellence so many of you are capable of. Still, I love and appreciate the little community of mutuals I’ve managed to push my way into. There’s so much love and support and encouragement here, and I can’t wait to push myself a little harder to interact and connect with more of you! I love what you create!

3.  Do you read WIP (works in progress)?  Why or why not?

I have no problem with reading WIP unless they seem to be abandoned—i.e. there have been no updates in several months.

8. Are there any genres that you tend to avoid?

Not really a genre as much as an element within fics, but I’m not into smut, lol, which you already know, because it’s basically how we met, when you tagged me in a fic of yours that was M rated.  If it’s a story that’s more about the relationship development or more about the other plot points but happens to contain smut, I’ll read it (and probably skim over the more racy bits), but if it’s basically porn with plot, I’ll skip it.

14. What kind of plotline are you always here for?

It kind of depends on my mood.  Sometimes I want something light and fluffy.  Sometimes I’m in the mood for a long fic full of action and adventure.  Some angst or whump is okay, but I don’t really care for fics that are nothing but angst-fests.  One thing that will make me love a fic forever is a really, really good plot twist.  What makes a really, really good plot twist? It’s got to be something that I didn’t see coming, but that changes the entire landscape of the story.  It also can’t be something that comes out of nowhere.  It needs to be something that, once it happens, I can look back through previous chapters and see all kinds of clues that I didn’t recognize before.  I love it when a story does that, and I hope to one day be able to write a twist like that myself.

21. Do you like sequels?

I’m not opposed to sequels. It just depends on the individual sequel.  If I liked the original story, it’s well written, and the sequel’s plot is compelling, I’ll like it.

24. What do you wish more fic authors would stop doing?

I feel kind of weird answering this, because every writer has their own style and their own favorite characters/relationships/plot lines/tropes, and I think that’s great. Even if it’s not something I’m into, there’s a good chance someone else is, and I’d never want to make a writer feel like they shouldn’t write a certain way just because it’s not something I’m into. So basically, I just want to make it clear that my comments below are just my opinion.  No attack on anyone else, what they enjoy, or the way they write. Just personal preference.

I’m not a fan of fics that contain either Emma or Killian in a relationship with someone else during the story, even if it ends up with CS together.  I acknowledge that Killian loved Milah, and she was an important part of his past.  Same with Emma and Neal.  I just don’t care to read about it.  

Beyond that, I suppose my main complaints would be about fics that contain significant grammar or spelling mistakes or those that aren’t written well, although I would never send a nasty comment to someone.  I’ve run across some fics where I was really intrigued by the plot, but I got bogged down in the writing style.

Phanfic finder fest

Since joining the phandom, I have read so many fics that I loved. For that reason I decided to mostly rec fics that I have already read in the past, therefore they are mostly longer fics. Here we go!

1. Cold/flu/short term illness read between the lines (i will if you will) (72k) by @phanbliss  I can’t even remember how often I have read this fic. Ten times? Twenty? Might be even more than that. It’s the single most amazing phanfic I have ever read in my life. It’s also so on point with both Dan and Phil’s characteristics that I’m still certain Monika hacked into Phil’s old files and simply posted them as a fic. If you haven’t read it yet, please do. It’s brilliant, it’s art, hands down. Monika, wiesz, jak bardzo kocham twoje historie, a szczegolnie ta. Dziekuje za opublikowanie tej i kazdej innej. Jestes niesamowita, mam nadzieje, ze to wiesz.

2. Yoga Try New Things (2,2k) by @bie-lovers I just love this! It’s cute and adorable and both Dan and Phil are portrayed in a way that’s quite special, but it works so so well! (I also love the fact that they’re both just incapable of yoga. It’s very on point :D) 

3. domestic chores when i sing, you sing harmonies (46k) by @leblonde Another fic I would consider a classic, at least for me. It’s amazingly well written in a mysterious kind of way, and I love how the magic shows itself on the grand scheme, but also in the little things like the kitchenware working on its own. It changed the way I saw things, it changed the way i saw myself, and that means a lot. Simply an amazing work.

 Hope for the Good Times (1,1k) by @succubusphan It’s just a short fic, but it’s so cute and nice and the idea behind is is just brilliant. It means a lot to me, and it’s adorable and it has a cat named Satan. What more does a story need?

4. Makeup The Era of the Wingless Angel (~140k so far) by @americanphancakes Sadly I fail to keep up with this story, but it is seriously breathtaking. Admittedly, it’s not an easy read, mostly because it’s angsty af, but it’s more than worth it. The storyline is unique and different, in the best way, and Zero’s style is so, so great. You won’t regret reading it, I promise.

5. Vampire/Werewolf AU The Enemy of My Enemy Is Not My Friend and My Enemy Is Actually My Secret Lover (110k) by darkness_prince_dan I’m a sucker for Vampire/Werewolf AUs, but this one takes the cake. It’s written in a... light way, so to speak, even though some scenes should be pretty dark. Dan is just... special in this, and I love it a lot. It’s definitely worth a read if you have some time on your hands. 

6. family issues Believe in Me (85k) by @elleberquist6 The concept for this story is just amazing. It follows the old japanese folklore of Kitsunes, and that alone is enough reason to love it, even beside the fact that it’s really nicely executed. Phil is the amazing, compassionate guy we all know and love and Dan is just - different. It takes some time to figure out what’s going on, but it’s really nice learning more and more about Dan and what he is as the story progresses. Amazing work!

7. cheating antisocialites watch a wilting flower (70k) by @det395 Just an amazing story. It’s honest and serious and sometimes, almost hopeless, but there’s also cheerful moments and the most adorable scenes between Dan and Phil. There’s a lot of dogs which, let’s be honest, is always a plus, and Phil battles them all over the cuteness crown. Dan has a lot of issues, sure, but he’s working through them, and does an amazing job while doing it; and the concept along with the general style is just amazing.

8. wedding (not theirs) The Bahamas Incident (70k) by @do-it-with-the-howell-lesters Usually, fics with homophobic slurs are not exactly my piece of cake, but I still like this story a lot. The beach atmosphere is great, Cornelia is amazing, and while usually, Co-written stories tend to have a breach between styles, this doesn’t, or at least not in a bad way.

9. midnight walk Let Go Of The Reins (81k) by @natigail This is the fic I’m the most excited about. It has horses. HORSES! As a main topic! For me as a rider and horsegirl that means the world! Add the fact that it’s so well written and I’m hooked! It’s dramatic, it’s honest, it’s adorable, and it has horses!! Yes, I am kinda repeating myself, but I cannot stress this point enough. HORSES! IN A PHANFIC! Cornelia is amazing and Phil is serious but there’s a lot of character development especially for him, and it’s amazing watching (reading?) those two dorks opening up to each other, step by step.

Flight to Flight (14,6k) by me I don’t usually like my own writing, but it just fit the prompt so well I kinda had to mention it. Writing it was joy and hard work at the same time, and the topic and characters mean the world to me. If you like ski jumping, please give it a read. If you don’t, you might just get behind the joy of it.

10. WIP updated in the last month A Coat of Polish (~34k so far) by BourbonWhisky_TwoSicilies I’ve rarely seen a clash between writing style and storyline in such a positive way. The storyline is serious, maybe even dark, but the writing style contrasts it in the best possible way. I love reading it, and it’s seriously underrated. Please check it out.

AmazingSketches (~26k so far) by @philsgiggles Ohhhhhh my god. I wanted to rec this sooo bad. But it hadn’t been updated in a while and didn’t fit the criteria, so I couldn’t... But now it’s back and I can! Yey! I just LOVE this. I don’t even know what else to say. It’s so different, not only in the way it’s written, but particularly in the storyline. It breaks off the way Dan and Phil are usually “placed” in AUs like this one, and reverses it completely, while still having both of them in character. It’s remarkable and definitely worth a read.
