Tech: "we can't get caught with these chain codes" 🤔 Echo: "we can't get caught at all" 💀 being mom is hard
HUNTER GIVING ORDERS WITHOUT WORDS AGAIN bfkwbxhabckw my fav
Tech to the rescueeee
If I had a dollar for every time Omega was in danger bc of a random imperial droid but is saved at the last second by Wrecker smashing it, I'd have 2 dollars... which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice
Omega's hand is so tiny in Wrecker's 😭🤲
Cut and Wrecker are wearing matching hats 💕
"but I want to stay with you" thanks I didn't need my heart anyway 💔
Suu owns my heart fr
"It responded to that" ~ Wrecker 💀

GET TO KNOW THE MUN. | respond to the prompts out of character!
what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have?
i don't really remember because it's been four years and i have the memory of a goldfish. probably just because he's my type. i do have a type that i gravitate towards writing.
is there anything you don’t like to write?
hurt no comfort. i don't read it on ao3 either. i'm also rly picky about smut and who i write it with. i only like writing it with friends / longterm rp partners.
is there anything you really enjoy writing?
hurt/comfort is my favorite. Obi-Wan Gets a Hug. also soft stuff, sleepy stuff. and bc love mentioned this when she tagged me, i really like having like a plotted universe w/ someone. i had a friend i had an EXTENSIVE modern au with and we were both writing all kinds of characters and it was the best time ever. they're not on tumblr anymore </3 but i love that stuff
how do you come up with headcanons?
they literally just come to me out of nowhere most of the time
do you write in silence or do you play music?
either or but i usually have a tv show playing in the background if not music
do you plan your replies or wing them?
i mostly wing them. sometimes when someone replies i immediately know which way it's gonna go, or sometimes i need to think on it for a couple days to figure out how i wanna phrase things, but mostly i open it and write it on the spot lol
do you enjoy shipping?
yes! for obi-wan specifically i also yearn for an unrequited love plot ie your muse in love with him
what’s your alias/name?
cassidy
age?
26
birthday?
december 30!
favorite color?
pastel pink and blue. i like allll pastels tho.
favorite song?
it changes but it's almost always a taylor song. ummm right now probabbbbly "you are in love" or "death by a thousand cuts"
last movie you watched?
if we mean rewatched, it was rots. watched for the first time... ummmm does a documentary on the slenderman murders count
last show you watched?
currently rewatching tcw
last song you listened to?
lavender haze according to spotify
favorite food?
right this second my favorite food is literally pizza lunchables but usually it's probably spaghetti
favorite season?
i like both late spring and early fall for the temperatures but spring is probably my favorite for the vibes
do you have a tumblr best friend?
@wihlted @kenoebi and there are other people i love v much but i'm scared to tag anyone else in case they're like ew we aren't that close LMAO
Tumblr media
tagged by @wihlted @valorums and i think someone else tagged me but its not showing up now??

A Padmé lives au where she still has to give up the twins for their safety and she herself goes into hiding bc Palpatine is determined to kill her as she's the only one who could bring Vader back to the light side.
Rots goes exactly the same cept Padmé lives after giving birth. Obi-Wan and Yoda do something to alter her force signature so Vader can't pick up on it anymore. Palpatine and Vader assume Vader killed her. The Jedi do some plastic surgery on a random corpse and give Padmé a funeral. (She keeps the japor necklace tho. I think she would struggle a lot with whether to keep it or not bc she would struggle with Anakin's fall but I think she would keep it bc she's not willing to give up on Ani).
Instead of finding some backwater planet to fuck off on she would immediately continue her work of trying to unseat Palpatine and bring the republic back. Luke and Leia would still join the rebellion and would be drawn to Padmé but not know why and would just chalk it up to her dotting nature. She would keep her secret until they found out Vader was their father.
I think Padmé would become a pilot and command a ship (she's not a senator anymore, and she's a good pilot and strong leader. She feels more of use being the commander of a ship vs staying in the war room esp once Leia is there bc Leia is more than capable (it makes Padmé proud))
So Padmé would be on Endor celebrating with the other rebels and she would find Luke and help burn Vader and she would cry. She would try to hide it at first, but it would consume her, and Luke would comfort her "it's okay, it's all over now". But that's why she's crying, it's over. Ani is never coming back to her but at least he's free now. And if we take the fanon that Rex is there too: he puts his hand on Padmé's shoulder bc he is going through similar emotions then Luke is like "...you knew Anakin before he was Vader". And Padmé stops crying and she looks at Luke and very softly says "yes. He was my husband" and Luke thinks "HUSBAND?!" And the math symbols floating around gifs and Padmé keeps going "yes. Luke, i am your mother" (bc I love a good parallel). For 15 seconds Luke goes through the entire breath of human emotion before he just collapses into Padmé's arms and cries and she's crying and Rex is crying bc it's over. None of them will have Anakin back but the war is finally over, they're safe, they have each other.
They come back to the Ewok village and Padmé would hug everyone and she's trying to figure out how to tell Leia and while Leia is watching everyone, Luke would come up behind her and whisper "she's our mom" and Leia would smile and Padmé would marry Han and Leia.
Then at some point, the 3 of them would go through the archive as Padmé told them Anakin's story.
(side note: I think together Rex and Padmé would put together Palpatine's plan. I think Ahsoka and Rex's story could either follow their canon timeline or bail + Padmé would pull Ahsoka into the rebellion sooner and she would pull Rex in. Ahsoka would still become a fulcrum. I think Rex would become a fulcrum too but he would focus on freeing other clones in hopes they would join the rebellion but understand if they wanted peace. Ahsoka and Rex would tell everyone about the chips. They would tell them about Fives and how he discovered the plot and there was more to it. Bail would try to find out more bc he was the head of the security council in the senate but it still wouldn't be accessible. So discovering the plot falls to a standstill. Folks know it's important but they can only allott so many resources to trying to figure it out. None of them can stay on Coruscant anyway. So then one day Padmé and Rex are just hanging out, maybe havin a drink and Rex mentions something off hand, something unimportant and that triggers a memory in Padmé, something she thought was unimportant (i haven't watched tcw so I'm not sure what it could be). Rex sneaks back to Coruscant and downloads the files he and Padmé need. When he gets back to the fleet, he, Padmé and Ahsoka go over everything. They would see how Palpatine manipulated the senate, how he exploited the clones and Ahsoka would share about how fighting the war pushed so many jedi to the dark side. How those that fell weakened the public's view of the jedi. How it weakened and confined the order. I don't think they would figure out every single piece, I'm sure there's lots of things Palpatine had a hand in that can't be gleaned from raw data esp since he went out of his way to make sure others did his bidding without him explicitly saying so and then killed them. For ex they could figure out the invasion of Naboo by the trade fed was to set the stage for Padmé (or whoever since he ordered her killed) to call for a vote of no confidence + to garner sympathy in the senate to increase his chances of being elected chancellor but they probably wouldn't be able to figure out who voted for him bc they genuinely thought Palpatine was the right choice (or why they thought he was the right choice he could easily set up scenarios where he gets to swoop in and be the savior) or who voted for him bc they had been bribed/exhorted into voting for him).
I think the twins would spend a lot of time reviewing tcw bc they would be able see it as the cautionary tale it is. Leia is determined to build the republic better and Luke travels the galaxy, helping ppl and establishing a jedi order. Luke's order wouldn't be one formalized institution but instead lots orders that are set up on planets so they can remain culturally relevant and peacekeepers in their communities but there would be something like a UN so each temple could have support and still work in cohesion. I think Leia would come to the conclusion that one republic won't fit all of the galaxy so she would focus on relationship building between systems. Padmé would be some high-ranking politician and be crucial to creating a new form of government. Rex would be her advisor and unofficial bodyguard

For the roleplayer, what got you into Star Wars?
[ The Author: Me? ]
[ Uhh, hmm ]
[ I don't know what exactly got me into it, probably KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic) or Dark Forces: Jedi Knights. See, thing is, when I get into something I generally need something or someone or some concept to attach too--and it was one of the franchises, for the longest time, where I simply didn't. ]
[ I liked watching it tho, on occasion, but actually it used to annoy the hell outta me. Cos like i said, I had nothing that attached me to it, nothing that got me invested beyond the surface ( Well fuck I'm more like Anakin than I thought-- shit XD ) ]
[ So how bout I go into a long spiel, and vomit a word wall? I don't talk often without playing Vader, so might as well have at least a small break. ]
[ So let's get personal, hm? ]
[ Whenever I think of Star Wars merits, I think of the song "Kiss from a Rose" by Seal. It probably has something to do with Tim Burton's Batman being around before the Prequels, and the line "you became the light on the darkside of me" ]
[ And I remember the first time I saw Star Wars. ]
[ I mean, bits of it. I was real little, back in the ancient days of Cable Television, and Dad was flipping through channels--and the Sci-Fi channel was playing "New Hope" (Probably in preparation for the Prequels--I was baby at the time ), and it was the one before it became a New Hope--so we're talking unedited OG title drop "Star Wars". ]
[ And it was the Garbage Disposal scene. I remember seeing three people, two dudes in armor and a lady, surrounded by garbage and water, and seeing the *thing* pop out and pull one (Later to be known as "Luke") down into the water. ]
[ And I thought he was dead. I was uh, exposed as a baby to old films where, if you see someone pulled into the water by a monster--you knew they were dead. But no, he popped up fine afterwards. Then the walls started caving in ]
[ And as a child, when the walls start coming in, you knew they were dead. But no, the walls stopped in the nick of time and they cheered. ]
[ And then dad changed the channel not long after. ]
[ The only other times I got exposed to Star Wars after that, was watching Dad play Star Wars video games, like KOTOR or Dark Forces or that one old video game where you get to fly an X-Wing ]
[ I think it wouldn't be until just before the prequels really started coming in, that I was allowed to watch the full original Trilogy. And I mean, the unedited ones, with Han Solo firing first and Boba Fett as played by Jeremy Bulloch with his Clint Eastwood attitude. ]
[ I remember the Prequels too. I remember how off they were--as a kid, the style of the prequels contrasted with the OG Trilogy, they didn't seem to fit even though everyone insisted they fit. Hell, they still don't fit--two different styles with two different eras of writing and lore ]
[ And I remember how Bored I was. Like, they were Boring. Like, if I wanted bad CGI Action with good thrills, I'd go to "Men in Black". If I wanted Star Wars, I'd go to the OG trilogy. If I wanted prepetual whining and complaining quirky characters, I'd turn to Nickelodeon ]
[ Frankly, after a recent rewatching... I'm still fucking bored of em. ]
[ Even with the Clones, they were... Well, Redshirts. Nothing in the films really made you care about them. Nothing in the films really made you care about much else either, so eeeeh ]
[ But Thousands of Years Ago, in the year of 2005 or 6, I watched Revenge of the Sith, and I saw Order 66. And I cognizant enough of events in movie enough to wonder "Now hold on. The clones and Jedi were friends for years, how would a single order cause this? It has to be Dark Side Mindcontrol"... and before TCWs was even a twinkle in my eye, or even a twinkle in the network's eye, it was one of the only things that really got me thinking in the Prequels. Cos, you don't just randomly turn on your friends based on something vague and stupid, not with all of Star Wars' buildup a the time ]
[ Then, in... hmmm, I was in highschool at the time I think... I saw a commercial trailer on Cartoon Network, for The Clone Wars show. And I wasn't interested in Star Wars like that, like I said it annoyed me. Especially this trailer. ]
[ Cos it was weird worm things that went up your nose. ]
[ And to a teenage me, that was just Dumb. ]
[ Now, cut to billions of years in the future, in the far off distant planet of 2020, and I working a dull stressful job (that eventually drained my sanity dangerously in that following summer), and I was thinking about that trailer for one reason or another ]
[ And I decided, I was gonna look up the Clone Wars show. There was something I wanted from it, I don't quite remember what it was right now, I might later. ( It might've had something to do with Homestuck) ]
[ and, I fell in love with it. ]
[ The animations style reminded me of an old CGI favorite, ReBoot (and probably Code Lyoko), the personality of the Clones immediately caught my attention, then there was the short thoughtful stories and arcs of adventure. It expanded so much, made mere boring concepts in the prequels into full blown elements that you could touch and feel ]
[ and hell, it got me through some dark times. ]
[ So I found my first real attachments to Star Wars-- the Clones. Not the Live Action Clones, not the Prequels--the show's Clones, in their CGI voice acted glory. ]
[ And that's where I ran into the concept of the Chip, and that, was brilliant, it reconciled a long time question I had for the Prequels. ]
[ And wouldn't you know, that same spring came Season 7 of TCWs. Cos to remind, the original TCWs started prior to the Star Wars sequels, in the year of 2009, and was canceled in the first year of the Sequels, 2014. So TCWs was apart of pre-Disney Star Wars. ]
[ So Season 7 was a full on 6 years after Season 6 ]
[ And... that's where I found my second set of attachments. And its extremely rare for me, to love a full group of characters all at once. Usually its niche ones here and there that gets me attached to a full series. ]
[ And like most of us doing these blogs--that group was "The Bad Batch", long before their series. Gods I could go on about them, but we're not here for an analysis ]
[ And then came the Order 66 episodes, and I was in utter hurt for the longest time. Cos well, I had attachments, (which is a no no in Jedi code) to the Clones, and Order 66 became the worst thing imaginable. It was... so unbelievably unfair, knowing that those I loved were in the worst place imaginable, and were not only not saved, but were unsaveable. ]
[ Worst kind of broken heart ]
[ Then, billions of years later, the universe ended, the big bang happened, galaxies were formed and I started playing Darth Vader. Cos, I remember the OG, I remember from my childhood what I thought and felt about Darth Vader. He was a helluva of a presence, and I remember that I fucking hated how Disney played him. ]
[ He wasn't an overly fantastic presence, some symbol of power or representation, he was a grounded armored combatant with issues and years behind him. He wasn't some whiny jedi farm boy, he was a soldier who's both gone through some shit and done a lot of bad shit. ]
[ He isn't going to walk in a room and tear a ship apart from around him to throw at you, no, he was gonna walk up and fucking stab you, because someone who's on a constant march across a galaxy isn't gonna waste energy on petty magic warriors with laser sticks. If you backtalk him, he silents you. If you're proud beyond your merits, he snarks at you. ]
[ And if he's redeemed, inspite of all he's done, he's going to have some unique perspectives, and a whole of self reconciliation to do ]
[ He's a great way to have humor, history, a way to explore star wars from start to finish, and to bring to light and life what one little child watching a garbage disposal scene saw, when they first entered the Star Wars. ]

hi! okay so i just finished ahsoka, LOVED it (mostly bc all of it was completely female led which you don’t see often these days). i loved ahsoka, sabine, shin, baylan and thrawn particularly. i’m a major wolfwren shipper lol.
okay but here’s the thing; watching ahsoka has made me want to consume more star wars media. before ahsoka, i only watched the sequels and the other movies before when i was like 12. soo i have no idea where to start.
i believe beginning with star wars the clone wars would make sense, but do i need to rewatch the prequel films in order to understand the clone wars (i basically remember nothing from the prequel movies) or can i jump right into it? and after that there’s all these disney plus shows, like the mandalorian which doesn’t seem connected to the movies as far as i can tell - and then there’s star wars rebels! idk, i guess i’m asking if you could give me any advice on where to start and follow on from there? pretty please???
sure!!! im just going to give you where I, personally, would advice on beginning. so I'd say to look around with some other blogs aswell!
disney+ has a chronological list set up if you want to watch everything as a marathon of some sorts. I'd say now is a good time for a marathon too – the next tv show is only coming out in 01/24/24, so you'll have plenty of time to catch up on everything.
there's also the infamous Machete Order, which takes off tv shows and focuses solely on the movies. I wouldn't personally go this route if you wanna really get into star wars as a whole, but if you just want to be up to date, it's a good place to start too – a bit confusing, maybe. They flip the order quite a bit to make it all flow better as a narrative; the prequels are, actually, just an elongated flashback.
Here's how it goes: a new hope, the empire strikes back, the phantom menace, attack of the clones, revenge of the sith, return of the jedi, the force awakens, the last jedi AND the rise of skywalker.
If you don't want to go Machete but per release, it's just the Original Trilogy, The Prequels, The Clone Wars cartoon and then The Sequels. It's very confusing though. I only do it like this if I'm watching it with someone I know has no knowledge whatsoever of the franchise, Vader's identity… all the nice little retcons disguised as plot twists.
Now, if the person does know about it all, which I think you do by the question, I'd say just go chronological order as it's put into the disney+ list. if you just wanna watch the movies first, it's prequels, original and then sequels. I'm gonna write the list with the tv shows sprinkled into it:
Phantom Menace, Attack of The Clones, The Clone Wars, Revenge of The Sith, The Bad Batch, Solo, Obi Wan Kenobi, Rebels, Andor, Rogue One, A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Mandalorian s1-2, The Book of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian s3, Ahsoka, Resistance, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi aaaaaand The Rise of Skywalker.
Oof! big chunk. Adventures of Young Jedis is a fun little cartoon that before everything, but it's very much targeted towards children beneath, say, 11 years old. But still fun to watch if you want to. Visions are independent and non-chronological episodes, so you don't need to include it if you don't want to. I recommend it tho. They're very well done. Tales of the Jedi are also non-chronological, but they follow and study characters such as Ahsoka, Dookan, Qui-Gonn. I highly recommend watching it after the prequels, but again, they are not necessary per se to understand the scope as a whole. Resistance is… Resistance. I didn't enjoy it as much i wished i could (i love the rebels, i love everything about them as a storyline), but they do provide some much needed information that bridges the original trilogy and the sequels.
Now. The Clone Wars. TCW has their fair amount of filler episodes, and it is a seven seasons big chunk. It also was not released with episodes as chronological, so you'd have episodes that released first but were placed before in the timeline. so no judgement if you decide to go Machete on it. Here's a list to the episodes that contains all the most important arcs in it:
https://www.kotaku.com.au/2023/07/the-essential-clone-wars-episodes-every-star-wars-fan-should-watch/
I think. I think that's it!! Hope this helps you anon. I'm always here if you want to!!

Send ✍️ and I’ll share something from my RP wishlist
Star Wars verse, totally not because I'm hyperfixating on it rn. I'd need to research more into SW first though. But the idea of it taking place around the prequels era with the corrupt governments and the rise of the sith and the whole clone wars.... I need it.
I try not to connect non-op characters to my muses in xover verses, but I think Robin could be a great foil to Dooku. And maybe Obi-wan. Just, there's some similarities in what her backstory could be and what little information we get given about Dooku. And Obi-wan and Robin could sass each other all day.

ok so. damn.
this will be very unorganized
the bad batch has......... potential. but there is a Lot that needs to get done first.
who. did that. to echo. who????? why is he blue??????? and theyre all white?? their eyes are so washed out??? like i knew it was bad from all the promos but god fucking damn they look SO bad. star wars has struggled with this since the beginning. the clones don't look anything like temuera morrison (i stfg if i hear a damn thing about running out of """""jango juice""""") and they did a great job modeling obi wan after ewan mcgregor so the only real reason they didn't do the same for the clones is racism.
same for omega, they dont look anything like a clone. like??? that child is White
also, omega is trans. i do make the rules.
the way they treat wrecker is absolute shit. i couldnt help but cringe at some of his lines bc it was SO forced. like that part in the eval with tarkin when hunter signaled to tech and wrecker, wrecker didn't understand anything? really?? this gimmick they're trying to shove down our throats that wrecker is so unbelievably stupid is not only lazy and racist, it's also just not feasible in gffa. it's just not possible for him to be that dumb and not die on the field of battle. even if he disobeys orders, he would still have to know basic communication, organizational tactics, and use critical thinking. the way they portary him is so one dimensional and lazy, it's infuriating. and he's the darkest of them all, huh. wonder what that's about.
do tech's smart genes also make him look like a nerd?? that hairline is so disrespectful. and he's the lightest of them all, huh. wonder what that's about.
(aside from echo, but thats a different rant.)
speaking of echo, order 66 should have been a bigger deal, right? he worked directly with anakin, obi wan, and ahsoka. he knew them pretty well, and he knows rex and cody work closely with them too, so..? order 66 comes through and he doesn't even mention that? he gets orders to kill all jedi and he's surprised i guess but still way too chill about it.
to circle back around to lazy writing, the show tries soooo hard to make "regs" antagonists almost immediately. after watching seven seasons of TCW and learning and loving so much about the clones, it was such a difficult adjustment for me to just.. see the clones in TBB treated the same way they treat droids in TCW. like. that's a whole human person whose free will was just ripped away from them. man.
also, order 66 is a tragedy not just for the jedi but for the clones as well. anakin says it himself near the end of season seven, loyalty means everything to the clones. TBB was an opportunity to see order 66 from a unique perspective, we kind of got something like that with ahsoka and rex, but it would have been a completely new point of view in TBB, but it felt like that opportunity was just thrown away. instead it was like..... idk. it just really far off from how i expected TBB to address systematic genocide.
i cant fkn stand crosshair and his stupid toothpick lmao. he's so ugly
actually now that i think about it he’s only being a dickhead because of his chip. he doesn’t have free will either. he’s still ugly tho and i hate his voice BDJDBJE
idk. i'll probably have more thoughts on this later, i might watch it again just to see if i missed anything. its just really disappointing.

Bad Batch 1x01 spoilers
I've never done something like this before, but I figured I'd start. Reactions to the first episode of The Bad Batch. (This ended up being a lot longer than I intended, but whatever)
Spoilers under the cut
Red logo burning away starts strong
Yay narrator dude!!
Feels like clones wars
Animated rots scenes!!
And what grevious did after the rots beginning
HOLY SHIT DEPA!!!!!
And caleb right???
And we're in
Omg who voiced young caleb bc it sounds a lot like fpj but aged down and he def doesn't sound like the 14 I know he was when this happened
I like how we started out on familiar characters but not ahsoka or anyone from tcw. We started w young kanan and his master and we know what happened to them and all but if anyone watching hasn't seen rebels they wouldn't be lost as to who caleb and depa are, they'd just assume they're random jedi in o66
Good ol droid screaming as it falls off a cliff
Wow. Them.
I love crosshair
And wrecker
And tech
And echo
And hunter
B1's are so dumb
Lmao the salt from hunter
I feel like depas forehead pearls are a bit unrealistically large but I have no cultural standpoint to really know so...
Caleb's voice is too deep in the same way that jack frost from rotg's voice doesn't match his character model
Ah wrecker not really knowing what she means and echo, the one who has been trained to deal w people and hung out w ani and obi is just like 'thanks general'
Obes kenobes mention
Why is echo so pale
Depa and caleb feel a little too pale too tbh I wonder if it's the lighting or the whitewashing
Wow caleb is a lot like ezra, I can see why kanan wanted to train him lol
Is this what separates caleb and depa, leading to her telling him to run??? Do I need to read dume???
Oh no
Noooooooooo
Bb didn't get the order!
Oh caleb nooooo! Nooooooo they didn't receive that order, they can help you!!!
And he's gone
Oh I need an au where caleb stayed with bb and they helped him after depa died
Hunter sounds so much like rex it's weird like ik they're supposed to sound the same but it feels like wrecker is replacing rex or something. Even tho ik rex's story is over for the time being
Crosshair, no! Don't shoot at him! He's baby
Oh no did crosshair get o66???? It didn't seem to trigger anything in any of the rest of them, but is crosshair close enough to 'reg' for it to have triggered???
😭😭good soldiers follow orders
"sure thing, boss" "hey hunter got a sitch"
Crosshair acting sus
Oh I love watching padawans fight, they're so good!!
I hope that hit to the tree did a lil cognitive recalibration for crosshair, he was acting crazy
Caleb looks so scared!! He just watched his master get gunned down by his friends and now strange clones are trying to kill him/confusing him
Oh caleb
Oh no crosshair don't try to kill him!! Hunters trying to help!
Also hunter doesn't sound as much like rex w the helmet off, but it's weird bc most of the clones are distinguishable by voice even w helmets on. I guess it's the 'im in charge' voice
Star wars if caleb had gone w the bb
Oh hunter u sly dog lying to crosshair so he doesn't go after him. U gotta figure out why crosshair responded to o66 and no one else in ur unit did
Oh crosshair knows he's been lied to
I will always love coming-out-of-hyperspace shots
Ooh kamino, always nice this time of year
Echo is done w wrecker
Why hasn't crosshair taken his helmet off yet, lil bit sus
They better get his chip out on kamino, I don't wanna deal w this
Oof hunter
Oh who’s that, giving me cloud city vibes
Extreme cloud city vibes wow
Never realized how many clones are just on kamino
Coruscant guard?!?! FOX?!?!
The vibes here, omg
‘The war is over’ wow
Oh no who was that
A female jedi, doesn’t appear to be shaak, couldn’t see any montrals but never know, we don’t officially know how or where she died
Ok wow none of the bb has their helmets on except for crosshair, who got the order. The regs around kamino all have their helmets on. That scene in victory and death when ahsoka took rex’s helmet off-
And crosshair, he’s actins strange too
Oh tech, do u guys get bullied by regs a lot??
I love their barracks
Lol he finally took his helmet off only to stick a toothpick in his mouth, can he get anymore cliched?
Wrecker is seeming a lot more infantilized than he was in the s7 eps...
Yeah crosshair’s being sus
Ooh, he shifted his toothpick
Lmao ‘what programming’
Well documented my ass
Tech’s speech patterns are so stiff and robotic, it’s like he has to remind himself to talk in basic instead of binary or some shit
Tech throwing shade at crosshair
I can’t quite tell if we’re supposed to like crosshair at this point
Lmao we been knew
Oop ‘more machine than man’ the vader parallels are serving folks
Understatement.
Ugh sheev
Crusty ass bitch
Straight from rots wow
Who is the mystery child and why does he look mandalorian
Ooh he gone
Oh no, the beninning of the empire
Cheering?? Why?!?
That imperial march fade in tho
Thank you echo
Oh shit mystery child is female
Omega, I would not have guessed the pronunciation of your name by reading it wow
She def seems mandalorian
Ugh kaminoans
Oh the kaminoan pronounced it as it usually is, huh.
Omega’s character model def seems more masculine than female, I now headcanon her as trans
Ugh tarkin, I hate that crusty bitch
Empire politics ugh
I love how much shade is being thrown at tarkin and his stormtrooper proposal lmao
Why do all these clones have the standard haircut?? ik them boys like their variety, even if these boys are still under o66′s programming
Wrecker you’re being extremely loud
They’re all being loud in the mess, why
They remember, kid
Lol child
Oh my sweet summer children
The dad instinct was clearly passed genetically from jango lol all these clones got it
Why are background characters so mean? What about it, shiny? Why is ur hair regulation, reg??
The Sad Batchn omg the slander
Lol the food fight I’ve read about in the fics, its finally happening!
Is she.... australian??
The over-animation of character movements in this is reminding me of the looser style of rebels, as opposed to the more clunky style of tcw
Lmao he’s still got food on him
Food fight!!
‘Not again’???!!! Echo!! Wdym not again?! Food fights have happened before?!?? Wait. W bb or w torrent, bc I can see torrent having food fights on the resolute-
Crosshair’s just eating his food until someone messes
I like how echo still has his kamas
Oh no echo!!
Oh echo’s trauma, he doesn’t trust medical droids! Where’s kix when u need him, huh?
Lol, comically long name for a robot trope is alive and well, huh
Lmao the droid lowers his voice like ik this is a perceived bad thing, but I will not tolerate this slander, boys u need to get off kamino
‘The shock’ lmao whyyy
Lmao tech!!
Oh, echo recognized tarkin from the citadel!
‘When you blew up’ lmao
Oh they make me sad
Aaaaah fox!
Man the domino squad nostalgia
Those droids look cool
This is a neat scene, I like seeing them in action
Wrecker reminding me of hevy, but he’s got the training and success to back it up
Live fire???? No!!
Ugh I hate tarkin
Oh no wtecker
Did he just get shot!???!
Oh no crosshair, be careful!
Tarkin’s trying to kill them!!!
Lol wrecker I love you
Echo using his mech hand as a weapon, truly an arc
Now I wanna see what happened on felucia
I like how tech’s just sitting on the droid’s shoulders
And hunter just had a knife
These boys, I love them
Oh no tech bby
Hot damn that was cool
Wrecher things so too lmao
Tarkin’s like “why didn’t that work??’
Oh new baby clones
No tf they could not, they would never serve the empire and those bitches
I love that they have a window apartment lol
Ugh tarkin u shifty
They all stand at attention, only after glaring at tarkin
Oh no onderon
I hate tarkin, he’s a bitch
How quickly could bitch lord and darth sad have replaced the armory on kamino??
Crosshair still acting sus
Neither does echo, kid
No.
I like omega.
Crosshair, with the sassy hand on the hip-
What does that even mean?? Or elude to??
Lmao tech messing w wrecker, they rlly r bros
Its prob the vegetation
Oh, I missed onderon, but not this much
Lol the put-upon sigh
Its clearly saw and his rebels
Saw! Looking sharp, what’s w the hair....
That’s a very geometric beard, saw
They didn’t kill any jedi!
That’s not what happened, tech
‘The clones’ bitch that was rex and ahsoka, check urself
Aw, I’ve always like the design of imperial probe droids
Thank you, echo
It seems like crosshair’s o66 programming and his mutation are warring w his morals
Lmao the shade
I knew she was an enhanced clone!
Oh, so she is (at least on paper) trans! She’s a clone of jango, and yet she’s female! That must be her modification, but it makes me wonder why
Lol *flicks toothpick*
Aw, they have a picture of themselves! Recent-ish, too, its got echo!
Oh no, AZI!
The difference between them arriving earlier and now, the lack of escort...
Creepy how they had to open the hanger door themselves
Oh no! Everyone!
The coruscant guard, I wish they had gotten better
Tarkin u dramatic bitch
‘The brig’ this ain’t some tallship
Lol echo that shade
Their blacks are different from the ones seen in the past
Crosshair, stop being a bitch
Oh, I don’t like that phrase!! And the fact that crosshair screamed it in echo’s face makes me uneasy. Did rex fill echo in on why fives died?? I hope so...
Crosshair, ur chip hurting??
This child, I like her.
No! Don’t hit hunter!
No crosshair!!!!
I dislike this immensly
So they do still have inhibitor chips!
Tarkin you monster
Oh poor crosshair
ihatethisihatethisihatethis
Lol tech I love you
Wrecker you sweet pea
Lol that’s adorable
I love how they form a “wall” its so suspicious
He was about to say that, omega
Aaww, echo protective boi
Wrecker shut up tf
That was cool
Sneaky bois
This reminds me of rex and ahsoka sneaking around in v&d
Echo runs so stupid
Oh no they winter soldier’d him!
If he says who the hell is crosshar, I will lose my shit
Yes, he has. They took it from him.
The toothpick
I wonder how they’re gonna get crosshair back to normal
Not good that they nabbed the sniper
Oh, crosshair shot him in the same place he got hit during training!
Ooh, a kaminoan on their side!
I hope omega doesn’t die
Poor trigger etiquette, crosshair
Wonder if omega has any speciality training
They’re just gonna leave him there!?!?!?!?!
Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!
Omega reminds me of young boba
Oh, so its in her dna
Go back for crosshair!!
Holy fucking shit that was amazing! I didn’t expect it to be that long, but I’m not complaining! This ended up being a lot longer than I anticipated, but I don’t feel like cutting anything out, so sorry for the long post but at least I put it under a cut.

So...about that Obitine Anidala rant. Also, you said something about how Sidious and Obi-Wan are foils. I would love it if you elaborate. (Also, I love your blog.)
Awwwww thank you anon!  I just be yelling on here!
*wheezes* okie doke!  Tho I stress that this won’t exactly be a rant because I adore Obitine and Anidala and rant kinda implies aggression towards them, this is more of just a long-ass ramble because while I love them, I don’t always love the way canon portrays them in the narrative, particularly in relationship to each other, because I often do not feel that what the show is trying to push us to think about them is accurate to how they actually act and come across.  Notably, the show attempts to draw comparisons to the two relationships that really don’t exist below surface level similarities.  Again, these are my own personal opinions, and in fact, I welcome discussion!  I truly do!  Please politely debate me on this if you disagree!
(god dammit it got long again, so long I’ll actually put ur Sidious and Obi Wan as foils part in a separate post)
I’ll get to why exactly the show compares the relationships very strangely in a moment, but first we gotta explore the reason why it does this in the first place, which is that the Clone Wars show has decided to make Obi Wan and Anakin narrative foils to one another.  Narrative foils, by the literary definition, are two characters that contrast one another.  They don’t have to be the protagonist and the antagonist, these characters can be on the same side, basically the thing is that they have “opposite” personalities where if one character is hot, the other is cold, if one character chooses to go right, the other will go left.  It’s usually used to show one character’s qualities as more favorable for the situation as opposed to anyone else’s.
TCW does this whenever they possibly can with Anakin and Obi Wan.  I get its reasoning behind it.  I do.  The reasoning is that while Anakin is supposed to be a main character, he makes questionable decisions quite often and for the kiddies watching, those decisions must be seen as Bad even if the hero does it, so they have Obi Wan, the unquestionable good guy, encounter the exact same scenarios Anakin makes his questionable decisions in, and then has Obi Wan make the Right(TM) decision to teach the kids a valuable lesson.  They turn Obi Wan into the voice of reason for the entire show, which turns basically almost everything Obi Wan and Anakin do into a constant competition in the narrative in a way the movies do not do (and I’ll get to the movies later).  I’m not saying it’s necessarily a bad thing, making them foils, but it’s definitely more of a show-only thing and it does it quite, quite often.
So yeah, TCW likes to compare Obi Wan and Anakin to the point that sometimes they try and use Obi Wan to diminish Anakin’s genuine trauma and struggles by going “well why didn’t you do it like THIS?” and I think that writing parallel plotlines for the purpose of shaming/criticism is kinda ://////, but that’s another rant for another day that again, if y’all wanna hear about, lmk
Anyway, the need to compare them absolutely made its way into their romantic relationships as well, as they acknowledge the similarities in the show, and Filoni and the crew explicitly compare the two relationships in interviews.
Basically my problem with how they try and draw said parallels can be boiled down to one quote by Filoni that a cursory Google search could not find but I know exists so y’all can take my word or not, that went along the lines of “Obi Wan and Satine are like Anakin and Padmé but better because they know how to stay unattached and let each other go.  They’re a success story.”  I disagreed with this quote so much it inspired me to write a whole-ass fic about it (Mutuals update: yes, it is coming soon, Darth Maul is just himself and therefore an utter pain in the ass to do a POV on and is fighting me like the bitchass he is)
My thesis that I will be arguing today is that while TCW tried to create Obitine as an Anidala parallel, they’re really not similar in the way the writers think they are.  Obitine is not a success story to Anidala, they’re a goddamn tragedy too; the real parallel to Anidala is that Obitine also ended in death and tears despite making all the “right” decisions instead of all the “wrong” ones, and that is what is sad about them.
Like, on the surface level?  Yeah, the crew-intended parallels are there.  A fancy politician and a Jedi get together after the Jedi is assigned as the politician’s bodyguard.  The first time they see each other in over a decade the guy’s first words are basically “damn girl you’re still hot”, there is Conflict(TM) and the choice to try and be together or stay yearningly apart because they are Forbidden(TM) to be together, and ultimately a Sith Lord fucks them both over because he’s obsessed with the Jedi and uses Politician Lady to his advantage, finds and exploits a vulnerability of hers, destroys her life’s work, and then lets her die to make Jedi Man sad.  The difference is all that one pair said “yeah we aren’t gonna break the rules to be together” and the other said “fuck it yeah we are, let’s do this”
But beneath all of that, they real similarities are different and not at all focused on by the narrative.  Obi Wan and Anakin are extremely different people, as are Padmé and Satine, so their relationship dynamics together will not be the same.  You want to try and compare Obi Wan and Anakin and then compare Satine and Padmé like the crew attempts to, and you can’t, they have the same job but not nearly the same life.  Namely, the funny coincidence is that Obi Wan and Padmé are much more similar in personality, while Anakin and Satine are also much more similar in personality, so the first time they meet again, it’s both Anakin and Satine as the one who’s been pining for over a decade and the one more actively pursuing the relationship, while Obi Wan and Padmé who are more like “uh, hi, wow, you’re hot and this is a Problem because I have a job to do pls don’t look at me like that but also I will Cause Problems On Purpose and flirt with you anyway because I can’t help it”.  I get the Corruption TCW ep with Sati and Pads was mostly intended just to help Satine pass the Bechdel test and also show how similar the two leading lady love interests are, but it was a genuinely creative episode that actually ended up showing how much Satine and Padmé compliment each other instead of mirroring each other, much like Obi Wan and Anakin do.
And, onto my next point, despite the character parallels being wrong, the parallels in the relationship are different too.  Like I said, the parallel isn’t that Obi Wan and Satine aren’t attached like Anakin and Padmé are.  The parallel is that Obitine is actively running from what that attachment means instead of embracing it like Anidala is.  The show would argue that since they try to avoid it, that they are able to live without one another, means they aren’t attached like the Jedi define it, but I argue that they definitely still are attached to a degree because they cannot give each other up.  They held torches for each other from a timerange of 15 YEARS.  Yes I know they spent an entire year together at a young and emotionally volatile point in their lives, but I stand that NO ONE is that hung up on their ex for that long unless there is some serious emotions involved.  Anakin was hung up on Padmé for ten years, and that was because Palpatine was constantly bolstering those affections and reminding him of Padmé.  Obes and Sati both-- or at least Satine, the show always makes Obi Wan’s feelings for Satine in return much more vague --held on to their feelings for five years longer without the influence of a Sith Lord.
And the thing is, they know it.  Obi Wan and Satine are both fully aware that they haven’t been able to shake each other off like they should and that that is a Problem, that’s why they’re both a mite venomous with each other beneath the flirting at first, they’re both extremely frustrated with themselves for not being able to get over this thing they have, and frustrated with the other for being there as an active temptation.
And yet, they still are attached to each other.  They try to avoid it, they definitely try, and that’s what makes them different from Anidala, but they are definitely still attached.  You can see it in Obi Wan’s actions in Voyage of Temptation when Merrik is threatening to blow the ship, the way he hesitates in attacking him because that would be “striking an unarmed man”.  Obi Wan Kenobi does not prefer violence, no, but he has never hesitated to cut a bitch before if it’s for the good of the many.  This is the man who stabbed someone with a fork and threatened to eat him just to maintain his cover as a dangerous criminal.  This is the guy who had no problem killing Zam Wessel for information to protect Padmé.  This is a pragmatist who prefers peaceful solutions, but he does not hesitate if he feels it is a justified offense.  But this time, when an entire shipful of people is at risk, Obi Wan hesitates.  Because he doesn’t want to upset Satine.  Because he’s probably thinking on how she told him that if he had killed the last terrorist they encountered, she wouldn’t speak to him, how she had criticized every time he used violence to escape Death Watch before.  He hesitates because he’s putting her happiness, just for a second, over the sake of duty.  Do I think that if Anakin hadn’t shown up to save their moral compasses, Obi Wan would have eventually taken out Merrik?  Absolutely; hell, I honestly think Satine might have done it.
But the matter was, Merrik could have pressed the kill switch any second of Obi Wan’s hesitation, and Obi Wan knew that, and was hesitating anyway.
I am calling this attachment solely because if the situation was reversed, if this was Anakin and Padmé in this situation, with Anakin not taking out a dangerous criminal because he doesn’t want to upset Padmé (lol ignoring the fact that Pads 1000% would have shot that bitch, and even if she didn’t, Anakin would because he is perfectly fine with hurting his loved ones’ feelings if he feels it’ll keep them safe), god, the narrative would have eaten Anakin alive.
No, I won’t take criticism.  I know how the show handles the Anidala dynamic.  It would have shown Obi Wan popping up to take out the baddie as him doing the right thing and saving the day, and then Anakin would have been shamed for letting his feelings for his wife get in the way of protecting a shipful of people.  THAT would be the Vader foreshadowing, none of this “only a cold-blooded killer” shit, no way would they ever stick that label on Obi Wan.
So yeah, I’m going off of the fact that if that would have been classified as attachment for Anidala-- which, it would, then. it counts for Obitine.
And then Obi Wan and Satine continue to be hung up on each other for the rest of the eps they’re in, Satine saying in words multiple times how much she loves and cares about him and wishes things could be different, and Obi Wan performing it in actions, risking his own neck and political standing to help her even when she’s a fugitive, probably personally putting in to send his own grandpadawan to help her later.  Right up to the time when Satine decides that she is going to call Obi Wan when she is deposed.  Not the Senate.  Not any powerful politician friends.  Not even the Jedi Order or the Council as a whole.  She calls and addresses her distress call to Obi Wan alone.  And Obi Wan, as now revealed to us by TCW S7, defies Council orders and breaks a century old neutrality treaty to try and bust her, a convicted murderer in the eyes of the Republic and Mandalore, out.  He didn’t even know Maul had her.  Just knew she was in danger and came running to her aid.  He risks starting a potential war to come save her.  They acted so in love that Vizsla was able to guess from being around them for like five seconds, and was able to tell Maul exactly who he would need to bait Obi Wan.
That is where the attachment comes from.  It’s the fact that Obi Wan and Satine tried so, so hard to give each other up and do the right thing, but when it came down to it, they couldn’t lose the other one so they put them first when logically they shouldn’t.  And thus, Satine ended up dead.
Now I know most people will argue with me that actually Filoni means that since they didn’t stay together after the year on the run, THAT is what makes them able to give each other up, and also the fact that Obi Wan didn’t go dark side and murder everyone when Satine died.
But I still think that at least the murder front is a fairly low bar to cross, and anyway, that just because they could live without each other didn’t mean they weren’t still attached.  Anakin and Padmé were apart for 10 years and then even after that, they were apart almost constantly during the war.  Just because they could live apart or even past the other’s death didn’t mean they weren’t attached, as they both still had not let the other go mentally and also broke rules to try and ensure the other would not die, even if the rules said they should let it happen.
So yeah, that’s my big theory.  We can’t compare Obitine with Anidala by saying Obitine was a success story, we compare them by acknowledging that both struggled with attachments and letting the other go, but Obitine at least tried to the bitter end to do the right thing while Anidala didn’t really bother, and both ended up with dead women and broken men regardless, and that is the true sad parallel to me.

The close keep telling stories of him xD he will never live it down xD
I'm pretty sure there is a betting pool between the Jedi what mess Obi-Wan, Anakin and Ahsoka will get into next xD
Ahww that's adorable. Yes. Like some sweets or just nice things ~
My best guess is that it will be set after ROTS, maybe somewhere on Tattooine?
I MEAN. YOU LEFT THAT KID TRAUMATIZED, WHY ARE YOU SURPRISED HE IS TRYING TO KILL YOU MACE?
Well that's touched in the Republic Commando books (old canon, idk what's canon for that anymore and the details might be a bit fuzzy) but back then it was like that: Boba was specifically made for Hangings part of the payment and was unaltered and he and the clones never really got along. Zam and Jango were pretty close, but Zam got killed before. On the RC books some of Jango's old bounty hunter partners/whatever try to find him but can't
But it would be adorable if he got adopted by the clones "He is mine now" "HE TRIED TO KILL ME PONDS" "HE IS MINE NOW" xD and he got kinda adopted by Aura on TCW? But she is not the best influence xD
Years from then he will be hanging out at a bar where a group of clones is only to hear thos story drunkenly shared for laughs. He wants to die then and there from embarrassment cause they didn't forget like he hoped.
Oh absolutely! They all know it's coming but bets are on the scale of it, the amount of damage, the risk and stupidity of a plan used!
I'm loving all the focus Tattoonie is getting lately tbh! I love when more lore gets expanded on (one of downsides to CW when they summarize an event for episode and just focus on the fighting more so then more on planet, etc)
RIGHT?! LIKE THSI SHOULD NOT BE A REMOTELY SURPRISE. then him not doing anything until hostages was shown and like, clones died in thag crash Boba cause, but you dont care if it repeats???? I just, no!
Oh man, gotta love when multiple sources of shows conflict on canon and stuff is all confusing XD. Oooo, I definitely can see that with Boba and clones not getting along. I'm sure there was some fear of being replaced by a better clone/being same as them/need to be better but theres always another clone better at him in something plus clones conflicted with Boba being the Choosen One/how Boba was likely told he was more then clones or never be like them/jealous general of Boba's spot and more! Plus if they are aged faster then him too, that's a whole another issue of perhaps seeing friends get old while your stuck young longer? ((And man later on after Jangos death I am SURE seeing his dads face everywhere does not help omfg))
Just like, clones are guards watching him in a cell when he is being ready to be taken to council after captur and Boba's having a nightmare that ends up with him accidentally calling a clone Buir in a daze and it was at that moment the clone guards had a 'oh. Oh fuck, we are adopting him, arent we?' Moment Lol
Oooh man, when she first shown I had a 'Aw, he got an new adoptive mom' before it turned into 'Wait a damn second, weewooweewoo vibes are kicking off, UNHAND THE CHILD, MA'AM'. I was really hoping there would have been more talk between Boba and the three captured or least with the clones, maybe as a closure or something else before she came back and took hom to front to be away from the captives? Also Hondo having a 'I ain't touching this AT ALL.' And she being his ex, plus that respect to Jango when he got Boba to tell location :')
Also, Oh man Bossk had my heart. I wont lie, I searched for next Boba episodes and skipped to simply watch the two prison ones (bald and beardless Obiwan is Cursed TM and I NEVER want to see it again). And just Bossk having stayed by Boba's side and have his back???? :')

lots to unpack in the season finale, may need to rewatch
but some stuff i found hmm (spoilers):
was that how the darksaber worked? havent seen tcw but in rebels didnt sabine just like give it to bo-katan? what makes that different?
idk at first glance cgi luke isn’t doing it for me, its not make or break for me, his scenes were still so fuckin good when he was beating robo ass, but might have preferred that seb stan fancast instead of the cgi thing lmao.
deadass when i saw the green lightsaber i was like, EZRA?? and completely forgot luke used one first lmao
??doesnt kyle kill all of lukes students???? im sure theyll come up with something to keep grogu alive but lmao.
the father-son thing was the main (emotional) draw tho, how they gonna go about s3 without it, just replace it with another child?lmao, the only way i can see that “working” is if like the other child is like a teen so that mando now has to deal with teen child raising problems.
sorry cara stans but i wanted her to die, nothing against the character but i just want c*rano out of here lmao
when we called mando king didnt think it was actually gonna happen
at least the child got to see his dads face, but found famibly trope the greatest trope why would u destroy that
yooo they kept that boba series a secret in the investors day right? might watch that yeah

Shoutout to @tiburme for tagging me~!
Rules: Name 10 favorite characters from 10 different things and then tag 10 people.
Oh, massive spoilers below btw.
1. Gon Freecss from Hunter x Hunter: My favorite shounen protagonist by far. At first you think he’s your typical happy-go-lucky bouncy boye :D who definitely doesn’t have abandonment issues or self-destructive tendencies that literally actually almost kill him later on, and then, uwu... The amount of complexity that Gon has as a protagonist who hardly ever has stand-alone development is nothing short of astounding. How during the Chimera Ant Art his characterization totally dips off to the side to become an unknowable entity even to the audience, while still retaining amazing character development regardless -- not to mention how brilliantly daring his decision to threaten Komugi is that nearly every other author with such a happy-go-lucky protagonist would shy away from in cowardice -- is absolutely surreal to me. The more I think and write about Gon, the more I fall in love with him. If I ever meet his father, and by that I mean his real father, the creator, Togashi, I have nothing else to say but,,, well done, sir.
2. Tanjirou Kamado from Demon Slayer: I’m really hoping the Demon Slayer movie comes out soon because I absolutely love this boy and how charming he is. Unlike most protagonists, not just of shounen anime but of seemingly macho story lines that involve power-ups and training in general, Tanjirou never lets go of his kind heart. (Welp, except maybe in some cases when he’s facing the Upper Moons later on -- I haven’t caught up yet -- but WE’RE GONNA IGNORE THAT for now.) From the beginning, Tanjirou’s kindness isn’t an obstacle holding back his power, though other characters pose it that way, but rather he cultivates his empathy to grant peace to the demons he faces. He smiles in the face of anyone who treats him poorly because of his cluelessness, and that’s just so heartwarming to see, and dare I say subversive to the hardened, calculating, and cocky male protagonists we so often get. Good job, Gotouge.
3. Joseph Joestar from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Giorno Giovanna was a close second, but I gotta go with Joseph. He’s the one who made me fall in love with the series, and with the later parts too. Unlike Jonathan Joestar, who was chivalrous and manly, Joseph was a riot: colorful, arrogant, funny, but also extremely clever. I absolutely loved his, “Next you’ll say...!” because at first I expected it to just be him being an overconfident asshole and eventually he’d be proven wrong at the ~Dai Pinchi Moment~ (please excuse my weeb speech, I legit didn’t know what else to call it), but then he hit the mark every time and eventually I was just waiting for when he’d pull that out and it was so hype. Also I surely can’t forget his transformation as an old dude in Part 3 -- him screaming “OOHHHH MY GAAAWDDDA!” and “HOLY SHIIIT!” murdered me every time. And of course, last but not least, the raw fucking emotion when Caeser died -- the dude actually gave a shit and wasn’t made entirely of wit and absurdity, but heart too. Joseph set the tone for what JJBA was as a whole for me (fuck off with that “but Part 3/Part 4 is the best Part” bullshit, Part 2 will always be top tier for me because of Joseph Joestar’s brilliant, bright, and beautiful absurdity -- but Part 5 was really good too). Araki really is a genius.
4. Link from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: My love for this series is a bit older than the series I’ve already mentioned, and TLoZ: TP was actually probably the first time I got seriously obsessed with a fandom. I love all the Links in their own ways, but Twilight Princess really drove home the “lone wolf chosen by the gods, fighting against the world” narrative for me. It made me feel important and strong at a time when no one cared about me. Seeing Link struggle silently through his quest with villagers who meant well but did nothing for him, and Midna who started out as a reluctant acquaintance and eventually became so much more, meant so much to me at the time I played the game. I will always love Twilight Princess the most because of what it did for me at one of the darkest times in my life, and because I felt completely and utterly immersed in every part of the story and gameplay through Link’s character, who was, and in many ways, still is, so relatable to me: Silent courage really is what I use to get through every day.
5. Greedling from Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood): For once I’m not naming the protagonist of a series! Lissen, I still smile whenever I see the slightest reference to Edward Elric, but now he’s more of my childhood love. He’s just a part of my personality already? LOL. Anyway, FMA(B) has so many good characters that choosing just one doesn’t feel right (I mean, same with HxH tho). I say Greedling because that encompasses both Ling and Greed though, two of my favorite characters from the series! Ling’s apparent childishness in constantly running away from fights, making other people pay for his food, and failing to grasp the seriousness of the situation (until Lan Fan’s arm gets cut off lol oops) is so adorable and entertaining. He’s the best kind of idiot asshole, and I especially love how he teases Ed. After him and Greed fuse, Ling’s stout heart becomes even more apparent, as he constantly eggs Greed on to remember his past life, his friends, and become someone outside of Father/the Dwarf in the Flask. Conversely, Greed’s nonchalance and (of course) avarice are nothing short of entertaining and heartbreaking. Greed’s realization at the end, when he finally admitted to himself that what he wanted all along were “friends like these,” completely crushed me the first few times I watched FMAB. And when he’s screaming in the tunnels under Central after having killed Bido, remembering his friends, and he doesn’t understand why, and later attacks Wrath/King Bradley... that shit was so entertaining and cathartic to watch. None of his development feels like forced redemption, nor like it was too little development, since it mostly happens in the background and away from the “validating eyes” of the protagonists other than Ling. And at the end, when Ling and Greed work together to take down Bradley and all the soldiers invading Central HQ... it’s so beautiful. Many have said this before but I’ll say it again: Hiromu Arakawa wrote the perfect series.
6. Ciel Phantomhive from Black Butler: Another protagonist! And another older obsession of mine. Ciel remains in my mind to this day mainly for his heartlessness in relation to his age, and the fluidity with which Toboso tells his story. Normally when authors write younger characters into their serious stories, they make “child adults” of sorts, but Ciel feels totally realistic to the extent that he is both childish and adult to me. Obviously, Ciel is responsible and (normally) level-headed due to being the head of the Phantomhive household, but also from trauma. Yet, his cruelty at times is what sticks in my mind the most: You really feel that he’s someone who feels he’s been abandoned by the entire world, given his experiences, and that makes him disregard or use others sometimes in order to reach his own ends. Normally, authors would be too cowardly to let their protagonists, let alone child protagonists, go to such lengths to avenge their family, or carry out their duty as the dog of the military (looking at you, Arakawa -- she’s still a goddess tho). But Ciel is unforgiving. He lies to Snake and tells him his troupe is still alive. He murders the entire troupe because he’s triggered -- a childish decision, but driven with adult-like power due to trauma. It’s devastatingly riveting, and I cannot forget his unrelenting, contained rage to this day.
7. Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars: The Clone Wars: This one may come as a shock to most of you, because I hardly ever post Star Wars let alone Ahsoka content on here -- but it’s true. Other than the blatant, half-assedly inserted heteroromantic partner they gave Ahsoka in, like, idk season 3??, Ahsoka is a fucking goddess. From her origin as a wee baby in the earlier seasons who didn’t really know what she was doing and was a bit of a cocky brat, to how she matures and becomes wise, resourceful, and fierce in the later seasons, I just love Ahsoka’s design and character to this day. The episodes that stick in my mind aside from the obvious are when she’s possessed by the Dark Side of the Force on that Force balance planet and her arrogance becomes so exaggerated that she threatens and attacks Anakin, her teacher. It was so fucking cathartic. Normally female characters, let alone young protagonist female characters, are never allowed to show the ugly sides of themselves in fiction, since women are always portrayed as perfect beautiful majestic angels or some bullshit like that. (Or they’re cocky/sexy/slutty villain women. ‘Kay then.) Seeing Ahsoka devolve into her basal desires and come out of it like hardly anything happened and she’s still a perfectly valid character was so amazing to see on a meta level; it wasn’t about her learning a lesson or anything, it was a thing that happened like any other character and then they moved the fuck on. I also distinctly remember the episode where she was trapped on that island/planet and she had to take out the aliens that were after her all by herself. That was so fucking empowering to watch and god fucking dammit I need to rewatch this series now. And of course, let us not forget the fact that the entire time, we were all expecting Ahsoka to just be another domino in Anakin’s downfall -- and she was, but not through the refrigerator -- but through walking away from it all. That was so powerful and moving -- and heartbreaking. By the end of TCW, her character carried weight and agency in the narrative, and god, I only wish whoever wrote her could write more female characters in the future.
8. Tigress from Kung Fu Panda: Maybe another surprise, but I think she deserves this spot. Tigress is a female character who starts out as kind of an antagonist, given how she outright tells Po to leave the kung fu temple within the first day of him arriving. She’s even jealous of the fact that he’s chosen as the Dragon Warrior rather than her -- but that’s due to the backwash of years of trying to live up to the memory of Tai Lung in order to please Shifu (which means “master” in Chinese but ok I’ll shut up now), her master and mentor over the years. She never says this out loud in the movie, which is what makes her character more believable. Others even joke about how stoic she is (and not in bad taste). Her character development is definitely present for those who are looking -- but I put her on this list because I’m so happy the movie doesn’t make it some huge dramatic emotional thing, because so often in media women are depicted as being overly-emotional and here Tigress is just a hurt child trying to make her mentor happy. But, she gets over it, her and Po become allies, even friends to each other -- she and Po talk like equals in the second and third movies, and she even tells him to back out of the fight with Lord Shen and he listens (I mean he doesn’t stay put but he doesn’t undermine her opinion either lol, like most jokesy protagonists of Western media would -- looking at you, Marvel). I like Tigress because she’s an antagonist without being a bitch, she’s powerful without being overpowered, and she’s not sexualized despite being a well-trained, at times jealous, and even emotionally awkward kung fu master. And I almost forgot to mention the best part: There is never an indication of romance between her and Po, or any other character, for that matter. She’s perfectly capable, complex, and lovely on her own terms. And that’s that on THAT.
9. Bilbo Baggins from The Hobbit: I wanted to include at least one character protagonist from a live-action movie/book, lol. I feel like Bilbo’s pretty self-explanatory. He doesn’t wanna go on an adventure because he likes his doilies and warm sheets, but then Gandalf seduces him with the call to the outside world and possible death (LOL), and he fucking goes for it, grumbling the entire time. Isn’t that what any of us would do if given such a proposition? I like to think so. Bilbo obviously has his own gradual, evil transformation with the One Ring, becomes murderous and uses it to disappear, and grows a strong bromance with the King Under the Mountain (which happens in both the movie and the book), but I think what I like about him is that he really feels... down-to-earth? Like even though the adventure changes him, it never feels like he’s been stretched in a way that makes his core character traits of grumbling and bluntness disappear. He gets better at the whole adventuring thing, for sure, but he remains Bilbo, at least, to me, throughout the journey. It was heartwrenching watching him try to save Thorin in The Battle of Five Armies, honestly, but Bilbo’s the kind of character that I feel like has his own story and mythology aside from The Hobbit, and maybe that’s just the result of J.R.R. Tolkien writing the lore for every aspect of his universe, but My Point Still Stands. He feels like his own man apart from the series he’s in, yet he’s still so much fun in his series.
10. Barley Lightfoot from Onward: And last, this one is because I saw Onward yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the characterization in it -- and anyone who thinks differently can kiss my *ss. :) I was not expecting the movie to take the twist of fleshing out the “annoying” (more like adorable) overconfident nerdy big brother. Normally those characters are swiped to the side because God Forbid The Comic Relief Have Any Sadness In Them. I was expecting the movie to focus on Ian’s journey to meet his fatha and that the movie would pull something stupid at the end like “oh actually there’s another phoenix gem underneath the school” or “actually since only his legs appeared then you still have 24 hours with him” or some shit like that, but I guess this isn’t an anime so those absurdist explanations wouldn’t hold water anyway. But still, for a kid’s movie, I was NOT expecting this movie to go so hard with the characterization. For once, the main character doesn’t get what he wants at the end, and instead realizes it’s his big brother, Barley, who’s been looking out for him his entire life. Meeting his dad would betray that reality. What happens instead is that the lovable big brother never actually said goodbye to their dad before he died, because when their dad got sick, said brother ran away from the hospital room in fear of all the life-sustaining equipment. (Is this some meta thing about Chris Pratt and Guardians of the Galaxy? Off topic and call me stupid, but I didn’t realize Chris Pratt plays him until I saw everyone freaking out about it afterward on Tumblr laksjdflak.) So instead, the lovable big brother talks to the dad at the end, and unconfident younger brother grows confidence and thanks big bro for being with him his entire life. It was so touching, dude. I cry. But the moment that sticks in my mind the most was when Ian was crossing the invisible bridge... Ian needed to have confidence in himself to be able to cross over a chasm in their path, and Barley knew that if Ian didn’t believe in himself, he would fall and die. They tie a rope around Ian for good measure, and Barley encourages him the entire way, but halfway over, the rope comes loose and slips off. Barley sees this and starts panicking, but of course continues to encourage Ian so that Ian will get to the other side. What got to me wasn’t the fact that he faked it for Ian, but that there are actual tears running down his face as he’s encouraging Ian to get to the other side, because he knows otherwise Ian wouldn’t have the confidence and would fall to his death. Like dude, that raw, complex emotion in a kid’s movie?! DUDE?! I was fucking surprised. The clear anxiety and grief in Barley’s face as Ian’s totally clueless and even dancing around in the air was just too much, omfg. Of course, then it’s played off for laughs, but... I guess that makes sense for the annoying overconfident nerdy big bro character. :’)
Okay these are way longer than I anticipated and I’m sorry, but also I’m really not. Hope you enjoyed reading my thoughts on my favs!
