Every Question that TBB Never Answered In Canon!
Tumblr media
Every Question I Now Have To Answer In Fanfiction!
Season 1
Why did the others accept Crosshair's 'turn' without question?
Where, when, and from whom did Omega learn how to handle a blaster?
Why was Crosshair only 'kinda' missed?
Where did the Lawquanes disappear to after Saleucami?
Why did they start giving away Crosshair's belongings ages before he supposedly quit?
Why did nobody run the concussion protocols on Wrecker immediately, if at all?
Why, if the chips were THAT dangerous, did no one insist on confirming that Omega didn't secretly also have one?
Furthermore, why trust a person's word alone on anything, when liars can and do exist in Star Wars (cough CID cough)?
Why didn't Hunter tell Rex immediately that Crosshair needed help?
Why didn't Omega's energy bow have a stun setting?
Why didn't Hunter think to use the kill setting for Cad Bane?
Why didn't Omega ever find out that Tech was testing her without her consent?
Why did the squad think Hera Syndulla was hallucinating the Empire's threat level?
Why/How did Omega know how to fix the Marauder despite never seeing anyone else do it?
Why/How did Omega learn how to swim despite never going outside back on Kamino?
Why was Omega suddenly able to lift solid durasteel beams despite having average preteen strength?
Why didn't Omega tell the others about the secret entrance back into Kamino at the very beginning?
Why did nobody press Crosshair for more information about his chip removal?
Why did nobody mention whether or not Crosshair had a chip removal scar?
And finally, why was the squad able to retrieve literally everything from pets to people for credits, but not get a trapped sibling away from Imperials with torture machines?

In all seriousness, I did like Jacen Syndulla's design, even if it, uh, wasn't aesthetically pleasing. I liked how it was so different from Shaeeah and Jek Lawquane because it showed variety in how Twi'lek hybrids could look like. Some could look very Twi'lek, whereas some could look more like their non-Twi'lek parent. Jacen got green hair, not a naturally occurring color in humans, while Shaeeah's skin has a lovely mottled pattern with a Twi'lek color and a human's skin tone. The Lawquane kids have eyebrows, which Twi'leks don't naturally grow, and Jacen's ears are pointed, with a tinge of green. The Lawquanes have lekku but no hair, and Jacen had hair with no (visible) lekku. (Though, there was a fan art out there that had Jacen with vestigial lekku in his hair, and I LOVED that.)
I love how wacky and a bit weird Twi'lek hybrids can come out. And that is why I'm disappointed in Jacen Syndulla's change. I'm hoping that it's a temporary disguise, that someone dyed his hair brown, and the green will be his actual color. I've seen arguments on both sides, and I get that Jacen's initial design was not... pretty. And that made him the butt of jokes, and many didn't like it. But I ended up really liking it because it felt... like a realistic way two species could hybridized.

Note: the Bad Batch are Omega's brothers, but they are her guardians. One may argue they are also parental figures, but that is a point for someone else to make somewhere else.

ok so we know that twi’leks and humans are biologically compatible right? i dont know much about biology but wouldn’t that mean that humans and twi’leks are (fairly) closely related? like same genus and whatnot
also would the children of such a pairing be sterile? yknow like a mule? also why do some of these hybrid kids look like this

while others look like

I believe twileks just change colors sometimes, but it's usually just a shade or something
But it's just dramatic in hybrids
Like Jacen being born with blue eyes just for them to darken into brown
And the Lawquane kids are just becoming a different color all together

Omega’s First 4th of July
Today was a special day for Omega. Today was going to be Omega’s first time watching the Fireworks. She is 3 yrs old now. Hunter and the others tried to show her Fireworks but she would fall asleep before they EVEN started. This year they….well Tech MADE sure that she would see her first Firework show. Tech planned the WHOLE THING OUT so Omega would have a WONDERFUL and a MEMORABLE 4th of July with her family. Even her Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins were coming.
Tech made sure that everyone had a KEY ROLE to make this day SPECIAL. This is what Tech gave everyone.
Hunter: Get Omega dressed into her cute Red, White, and Blue Outfit. (I found this picture on the internet)
Tumblr media
Echo: Clean the Picnic Table and set the paper plates and plastic utensils.
Wrecker: MAKE SURE TO NOT BLOW THINGS UP. WE DON’T WANT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT COME AGAIN LIKE LAST TIME.
Crosshair: Picking out Fireworks and Lighting them. He was also in charge of cooking the Hamburgers and Hot Dots on the grill.
Tech was in charge of making sure the food WASN’T EATING by Wrecker and laid the food on the table. Tech had invited other Family Members and asked them to bring something too.
Cody & Obi Wan: Potato Salad
Rex & Ahsoka with their kids Jasmine & Jasper: Drinks (Beer & Soda for the Kids)
Anakin & Padmé with Luke & Leia: Chips
99 & Shaak: Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies
Cut & Suu with Jek & Shaeeah: Green Jello
Once all the rest of their family members came, they all started eating and enjoying the food. Crosshair was a GREAT COOK. Especially whenever he cooked food on the BBQ grill. Hunter made sure that Omega was in a DIFFERENT outfit so she wouldn’t get food on it.
Omega was SO HAPPY to see her Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins, that she went to each one of them saying “FIREWORKS! FIREWORKS! FIREWORKS!” instead of saying hi to them.
“Are you excited to see the Fireworks, little one?” Obi Wan asked her. Omega jumped up and down saying “YES!!
“You’re not going to fall asleep like last time are you?” Cody jokingly said with a chuckle.
“NOPE.” Omega said as she shakes her head. Then Omega said this. “I’m not going to fall asleep. Wrecker and I made a promise.”
“Oh. What did you guys promise?” Rex asked when he overheard HOW EXCITED Omega was. Hunter joined too.
“Uncle Wrecker said that if I stay awake when we do the FIREWORKS, he will secretly pull me to the side so I CAN LIGHT a FIREWORK. He also told me that he would give me PIXIE STICKS to help me stay away. Uncle Wrecker told me to not tell anyone but Uncle Echo told me to NEVER LIE if someone tells you something.” Omega said in her cute toddler voice. She is still learning what a secret and a lie is.
Once Hunter heard that, he went over to Wrecker and had a LONG, VERY LONG talk about what Omega told them. Wrecker said that he was the same age when he FIRST lit a FIREWORK.
99 overheard this and yelled back, “The only way you were able to light a FIREWORK because your DRUNK Uncle Alpha took you to a church parking lot gave you a lighter. You guys lit a FIRECRACKER ROCKET which hit the roof of the church! I don’t know how my Brother was able to sneak you out….” Before he could finish, Shaak smacked 99’s head. “The reason you didn’t know was because you were drunk!” Shaak yelled at him.
As Tech saw this WHOLE DRAMA going on, he saw Omega getting emotional. He didn’t want her to have a FIRST 4TH OF JULY ruined. He quickly stopped the fight by yelling at them to stop as he motioned his head towards Omega. Everyone who was arguing stopped to see that Omega was crying. Hunter IMMEDIATELY picked up Omega and told her that they aren’t mad at her as he rubbed her back. Started to come down. Hunter told her that she was TOO young to like BIG FIREWORKS but that she would be able to help light a different kind of FIREWORK. She would light the others SPARKLERS after someone lights her SPAKLER. She would use her SPARKLER to light the other kids SPARKLERS. Omega was happy that she was able to “LIGHT” her first FIREWORK. She stopped crying and asked if they could do it now. They told her that they will do it when it gets a little bit more dark.
As soon as it got dark enough to light a few FIREWORKS, everyone laid out blankets and chairs on the front lawn to watch the FIREWORKS.  Hunter helped Omega get into her cute outfit. It was a little struggle getting it on her because she wouldn’t stop moving. He finally got her in it as she ran outside to sit on the lawn with her cousins.
Crosshair gave Omega a lit SPARKLER and told her to light everyone else’s SPARKLER. As was doing that, Hunter noticed that Omega’s SPARKLER was almost out. She wouldn’t get a chance to draw/write. He decided to tell Omega that she was done lighting everyone’s SPARKLER and traded her a new lit one. Omega had a BLAST drawing and writing letters. She was trying to write “Uncle Wrecker” but spelled it like this “Unkle Wraker”. She is still learning her ABC.
After the SPARKLERS were done, it was now for the REAL SHOW. Crosshair light one after another. Omega was fascinated with the colors and sounds. Hunter was afraid that she would get scared with the loud noises but she didn’t. This was a 4th of July that they will NEVER FORGET and Omega’s first FIREWORK show. She stayed awake through the WHOLE thing. Wrecker might have given Omega 2 PIXIE STICKS when no one was looking. But overall, it was a great 4th of July.

have you talked about cut/suu/baby yet, i see 'baby' and i start vibrating with excitement lskjfkljdsf
YES OKAY I AM QUITE EXCITED ABOUT THIS THANK YOU SO MUCH :D
I came up with and started writing this story a year or two ago, before The Bad Batch released and completely ruined my plans-
Basically, Suu gets pregnant and the whole family (Cut especially) is VERY excited about the new addition to the family. I’d planned on writing 9 chapters, one for each month of Suu’s pregnancy. They range from Pure Fluff to adorable romantic softness to Cut Coloring With His Children and even a “drill”—Cut slips back into his army days and organizes a practice exercise for when Suu needs to go to the hospital. It fails miserably
I only got to one and a half chapters before I lost inspiration… and then The Bad Batch came out and I realized! That Suu was not pregnant! And there was no baby! So my plans were ruined!
I guess I could revise it where it takes place AFTER The Bad Batch… but Shaeeah and Jek would be much older and I really wanted to write them as little kids, like they were in The Clone Wars ),:
So I guess this is an AU… *sigh*
Maybe I should post the first chapter soon…
I hope you enjoyed—I freaking loved answering!!!

It’s by far not the best Echo drawing out there, but man his eyes captivate regardless. Love me some Echo. And speaking of, just posted up a new chapter on AO3 🥰

Okay guys it’s a hard chapter. I’ll just preface it that way - covers the loss of Tech
Excerpt:
When he landed, Echo and Boost went over the data again, hoping they could make some headway with the encryption. “I don’t know, Echo. You probably could have saved yourself some time and just gone straight to Tech with this.” Boost looked pretty defeated, looking at the technology and coding before him. “This is similar to our old encryption, but definitely more advanced. Maybe if I had a lot more time, I could crack it, but Tech would be far faster.” Echo sighed and nodded, knowing Boost was right. He stood and walked out of the hut where they kept their main computer and radio system, a disgusted, tired look on his face. He brushed his hand over his eyes, covering them for a moment, then decided to go look for Lara.
He found her on the basketball court, playing ball with Jek and Shaeeah, while Suu Lawquane watched with a smile from the sideline. Lara was dribbling the ball, bent over in a rather aggressive stance, watching the two children with careful eyes, looking for an opening in their defense to charge past them with the ball. The two kids were giggling and smiling, watching her, waiting for her to make her move, and when Lara finally did, they both grabbed her in a tight hug, holding on for their lives as Lara dragged them to the goal, laughing all the way. Echo couldn’t help but smile at the scene; she really did have a way with kids that was heartwarming. “Y’all are both such little cheaters - this isn’t football!!!”, Lara laughed helplessly. She stood and turned to see Echo there, next to Suu, his arms folded over his chest with a bemused look on his face. Lara handed the basketball to Shaeeah gravely and said “I need to go talk to Echo over there. You two practice hard, okay?” Lara straightened and breezed over to Echo with a happy smile, her gait and posture one of complete contentment, albeit somewhat unbalanced - she looked like she was smuggling a basketball under her shirt these days.
Echo smiled back at her, turning to intercept her so they could walk and talk. Lara was really heavy with child now, many months into her pregnancy. Everyone smiled that saw her when she walked by, her maternal glow lighting her like a candle from within. She hadn’t stopped going on missions as yet, but she’d basically stopped a couple months back, delegating the leadership more fully to Primer and Boost. She had promoted Primer to Captain (he’d deserved it for years, and really she felt herself a bad leader for that oversight), and Boost to Lieutenant as well, then brought along a couple of new sergeants out of necessity, by name of Falco and Phoenix. Cody had started taking his own small contingent of Dragons and clones out on missions, as did Rex. Overall, the Dragon Company had only ever consisted of one hundred clones, serving under General Lin and Primer. Now, they usually found themselves in groups of five, answering to whichever leader they got assigned to that day. Lara had taught them nothing, if not flexibility. Whether she liked it or not, Lara found herself being pushed firmly and lovingly back from active leadership by the clones, all of them naturally wanting to protect their beloved leader and her valuable baby.
“What’s up, Echo?” Lara asked as they walked along. She could tell something was troubling him; she could sense it within her even if it hadn’t been written all over his face.
“We got a new group of clones out - they’re settling in with the quarter master now - one of them even brought a girl with him.” He said this with a little smile and glanced over at Lara, who smiled back at the news. It was always good to hear that the clones were finding love and making families. “I was able to get a snippet of information off the computer of the ship we raided to rescue them. But I can’t crack the encryption on it.” He looked off over the sea, the irritation plain on his handsome face. “I have a very bad feeling about all of this, where they’re sending our brothers. I don’t know what it is, but for the first time I’m really a little scared.”
They’d reached Lara’s favorite spot on the hill, and stopped to look out over the fabulous sunset. “What are you afraid of, my Echo?” She asked him quietly, her arms crossed over her chest. She looked over at him, the tiniest smile on the corner of her lips - she still called him that, after all this time.
“I don’t know. With all the secrecy, I feel like there has to be some element of disposal to it. They’re taking us clones, and killing us off somewhere, where no one will say anything, hoping no one notices until it’s all over with. And who knows what they are doing to them there, before they’re killed? There have always been a lot of people in this galaxy who don’t even see us as people, so why would they care if they’re experimenting on us and then killing us?” His words made sense, and his sense of foreboding affected Lara, too.
“How are you going to get the information off the disk you made? I assume you already went to Boost with it.” She knew Boost was pretty good with code; if he and Echo together couldn’t break it, that really only left one option. And one barrier.
“I’m going to have to get Tech to look at it.” He said it a little reluctantly; he hadn’t seen Omega since he’d parted ways with the Batch on Coruscant. Tech and Wrecker had both told him how much she missed him, and how hard the adjustment had been for her, without him. To a large extent it was one reason the Batch hadn’t returned to Nidhogg for a good while; they didn’t want to upset the girl further. He saw Lara sigh, place her hand on her belly and then move to sit a bit heavily on the ground. It was strange seeing her moving in a slightly unbalanced way, her typically fit and trim figure distorted by the shape of the baby.
“Sorry, Echo, I just need to sit for a minute. If I don’t keep moving constantly, this thing makes my back annoyed,” she said as she rubbed her belly, a slightly amused, but strangely loving look on her face. Lara crossed her legs under herself for comfort, and watched as Echo sat with her immediately. “I’m sure Tech won’t refuse you. And you know Omega will be overjoyed to see you. Wrecker told me just the other day she’s been doing pretty well lately - Tech is even giving her flying lessons.” She smiled at Echo, the mischief fully apparent in her eyes. She could just imagine what that looked like - she’d been completely stunned that Tech could pull his fingernails out of the ship’s yoke long enough to trust Omega with the controls.
Echo laughed as well. It didn’t surprise him in the least that Wrecker had maintained contact with Lara. What had surprised him more was that Wrecker hadn’t put up more of a fight about wanting to stay on Nidhogg with the Dragon Company, so that he could be closer to his General. “Well, I might have go see that for myself. I have missed Omega. I wish Hunter had been more amenable to staying here. I hear they really like it on that island.”
Lara snorted a little. “I think it’s funny how Hunter ran from one beach side home to another. But yes, from everything Wrecker has told me, they like it on Pabu. And they’re eagerly taking bets behind Tech’s back about whether he’s going to ever make a move on that Phee chick. I need to meet this woman; anyone who’s able to get Tech’s attention off his data pad for more than sixty seconds is a hero in my book.”
Echo looked at her with an ironic expression. “The man used to stare at you for hours, Lara, like you were a mystery he had to solve. I think you already won that particular fight.”
“Well, everybody knows I’m a hero in my own book, Echo.” She gave him a mockingly serious look and then smiled and laughed. “I hope for his sake he actually does go for her. You all deserve happiness with someone who’ll love you back…” Lara looked at Echo very meaningfully while he gazed back with a ‘what?’, look on his own face.
“I do have someone that loves me back.” Echo pointed out.
“I mean physically, Echo.” Lara rolled her eyes at him and looked off in the distance. Silence reigned between them for a while, as Echo tried to come up with a rejoinder that would make sense, and put the argument to rest.
“I…don’t need that Lara. I can still feel the touch of you on my skin, the taste of you on my lips. The memories of our time together were part of what kept me alive on Skako Minor. There is no other touch I want, if I can’t have yours.” Echo reached over and took her hand with his, his expression serious, if not a little sad. “Letting you go was the hardest, but best choice I made in my life, and I’m pretty sure if I had to do it all over again, I’d make the same choice.” Lara met his eyes, her face sad, but understanding. She knew Echo would always be hers; she wondered quietly sometimes if she’d ruined him for others, tainting him with her love. Echo sensed the thought within her - he could see it on her face as well. “Hey. Lara.” He squeezed her hand softly. “I’ll always be the first man you made love to - really, truly made love to, in your long life. Rex can’t take that one away from me.” He gave her a slightly salacious smirk and she laughed.
“Very true, Echo. Touché.” She smiled suddenly, her gaze going unfocused, and looked at her belly, as if listening to something within her. Lara reached over for his hand and clamped it onto a spot on her abdomen, her smile so beautiful and quietly happy he stared, speechless. Echo felt a sudden nudge against his the palm of his hand and his focus changed to their joined fingers, his face going blank with shock. He looked up at Lara carefully, the question in his eyes obvious. “Yes. That was the baby.” Lara put some pressure on his hand, pressing it down a bit on that spot and he felt a sudden sharp jab from within her. Lara laughed. “It kicked you,” she giggled softly. Echo wished for a heartbreaking moment he still had two hands, so he could put the other on her as well. The thought flashed through him like a flare, but the after burn of it was clear on his face. Lara reached her hand up to his cheek and pressed her forehead against his, wishing she could make him see - make him know - how very unchanged her love was for him, no matter what the Techno Union had done. She had no words at that moment, so she stayed silent, he content to feel her touch, his hand resting against her belly, feeling the sudden swirls of movement within. Echo had always known Lara was a miracle, that everything about her was miraculous; here was further proof in his mind.
Eventually Echo removed his hand, and the two settled in to just sitting with each other quietly. Suddenly Lara spoke, the laughter just noticeable in her voice. “Do you remember that time I woke Fives up with a bag of frozen marbles down the front of his briefs?” Echo’s head whipped around, his eyes startled but already alight with remembered hilarity at the incident. Fives had been notoriously hard to wake up in the morning, often setting his alarm to full volume, then sleeping through it anyway. It drove Lara nuts, listening to it for long minutes waiting on Fives to notice it.
“I can still remember the sound of his head hitting the bottom of my bunk!” He snorted and then burst out laughing, Lara doing the same.
Lara just about couldn’t speak for giggling. “I swear to god he literally levitated off the bed…” She was laughing so hard she leaned forward, placing her hand on the ground to support herself, shaking from the memory.
“He screamed like a little girl - it was the funniest sound I’ve heard in my life.” Echo felt tears run down his cheeks, gasping for air, seeing Lara was also crying with laughter. “Lord, Lara. Those were simpler days.”
She took a deep, steadying breath, suddenly burst into giggles again, and covered her face as a reflex. “Whooo… okay. I’m done. Okay.” Lara looked at Echo helplessly and smiled. “They really were, weren’t they?”
Echo could still feel a laugh or two threatening to escape, but he realized - this was the first time he’d even so much as heard Lara mention Fives’ name since Floston. They’d had so many good memories together - the nights at 79s when they went dancing, the evenings they spent in the Dragon Cave watching TV shows and movies from Earth on her iPad. Days spent helping her dream up naughty pranks to pull on Master Windu, and what horrible supplies she could route through the quarter master to his office. Granted, the pranks had mostly been Lara and Fives, but Echo had usually been there to listen and shake his head at them. He felt Lara go silent and looked over at her, seeing the sudden swell of missing Fives hit her; it was like watching the sun be covered by dark clouds. She closed her eyes for a moment, took a breath and tried to smile bravely, but Echo could see how the loss of Fives still stung her like a near fresh wound.

Rendezvous
Tumblr media
         ➥  Hunter x Reader     |     2952     |     Ao3
⚠️ Gender Neutral Reader, Mild Angst, Established Relationship, S01E02 Rewrite Being neighbours with Cut and his family brought you into regular contact with the Bad Batch. As time passed, you grew closer to Hunter, and soon your feelings for each other deepened until it bloomed into something more. So then, why does this meeting feel like it’ll be the last? a/n: A rewrite of a fic from my old tumblr to make it more coherent and less word vomit because I tripped and fell back into Star Wars. Inspired by the song 'The Rendezvous'.
Tumblr media
The weather on Saleucami is warm today, but in the distance a storm rumbles and brews. In the past, you would’ve enjoyed the storms, but nowadays, they only fill you with anxiety. It’s a looming threat, akin to the growing presence of Imperial forces on your planet.
With any luck, you and your neighbours, the Lawquanes, could flee soon, but you have more pressing matters right now. Like getting Shaeeah and Jek back home to their parents. With the kids’ help, you got all of your belongings either packed or sold off. Now it was your turn to help their family prepare to leave.
“Shaeeah, don’t run too far ahead!”
“I won’t!” The young girl bounces to a stop and waves. She waits for you and Jek to catch up.
“Hey,” Jek begins quietly. “Do you know where we’re going? Mom and Dad won’t tell us anything…”
It surprised you to see Jek with such a concerned and serious expression. The kids were perceptive, having caught on to their parents’ growing concern over the increased presence of clone troopers, and it seemed Jek was particularly worried.
“An adventure!” You said with a smile, which quickly fell when Jek frowned at you. “Honestly, no, I don’t know where we’re going, but we’ll figure it out. We always do. And hey, let’s look on the bright side. Maybe you’ll get to meet other kids your own age.”
Jek looks up at you with a hesitant smile. “Yeah, I guess.”
“That’s the spirit!”
He doesn’t seem too pleased with your answer, but it’s enough to keep him happy for now.
The roar of an engine causes you and the kids to pause, and the shadow of a ship passes overhead. Oh, you’d recognise that craft anywhere — The Marauder.
Your heart races at the chance to see Hunter again. The thought of not being able to tell him you planned to leave had been gnawing away at the back of your mind, and the very idea of him returning only to find you and the Lawquanes gone had kept you up at night.
“Look!” Shaeeah squealed, pointing in the direction the ship went. “It’s landing near our house!”
“Come on! Let’s go!” Jek tugs at your hand before releasing it, running after his sister toward their farm.
“Hey, be careful! You might trip!” Their enthusiasm is infectious and you can’t help but laugh and jog after them. Maybe you could’ve run faster if your luggage didn’t bog you down.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Naturally, Shaeeah and Jek don’t slow down, and despite your repeated attempts to get them to stop running, the kids seem to only run faster. By the time you catch up, they have already exploded into the house and come back out with another child in tow.
As you approach the house, walking along the path between the crops, you take the time to catch your breath. Only for it to be stolen away when you spot Hunter, leaning against the open door, wistfully watching the kids play.
And he notices you too, his eyes widening in surprise. Hunter pushes away from the wall, skilfully dodging the kid’s ball flying past him as he heads toward you. You meet him half-way, coming to a stop in front of each other. Hunter’s eyes flicker over your face, taking you in.
Oh, he’s just as handsome as you remember. You could get lost in those dark eyes and broody features for hours.
“Hey there, stranger.” You choke out, hoping you at least sound normal and not like a nervous teen around their first crush. It’s hard to tell over the deafening pound of your heart.
“Hey yourself.” He says in return, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
The tension is thick between you and Hunter, and it’s taking all of his self-control to keep his hands to himself. Even though the kids were distracted by their game, Hunter didn’t want to want to be caught doing anything inappropriate.
You flick your tongue out to moisten your dry lips and Hunter’s resolve broke almost instantly. With a muttered “kriff it”, Hunter leans in, cupping your jaw between his hands and kissed you with a ferocious intensity that came from a deep longing. You’ve been apart for too long and it sends a shiver of desire down your spine.
Your hands gripped his wrists as you melted against him, returning his kiss with equal passion. You break apart with a gasp, grinning up at Hunter with a dazed and blissful expression. Being with him, touching him, fills you with a pleasant warmth. It’s nice to know he suffered as much as you did in your time apart.
“Missed you.” You let out a small, contented hum.
“Missed you, too.” Hunter whispers against your lips, stroking your cheeks with the pad of his thumbs. He smiles, leaning in to give you another kiss.
“Ew! Gross!” Jek heckles from somewhere behind Hunter, causing the man to stop and let out a defeated sigh. Hunter turned back toward the kids and gave them a stern glare, sending Shaeeah and Jek scattering in a peril of laughter, leaving behind a confused Omega.
She isn’t left alone for long, and you laugh as Shaeeah comes racing back to grab Omega’s hand, dragging her off to play somewhere else.
“So, who’s the kid?”
“Her name’s Omega.” Hunter shakes his head, turning back to you with a smile. “And before you ask, no, she’s not mine.”
“Crosshair’s then?” You ask without missing a beat, arching an eyebrow. The sniper struck you as the one most likely to have a child running loose somewhere in the galaxy. His icy demeanour often drew people in rather than deter them.
“No! No,” Hunter chuckles, “Definitely not. She’s a clone. It’s a long story, but the short version is we had to leave Kamino and we just couldn’t leave her there, but we lost Crosshair.”
“Oh, Hunter, I’m sorry —”
“He’s not dead.” Hunter presses his finger to your lips, silencing you. “Things are… complicated.”
Hunter’s gaze roams up and down your figure, finally catching sight of the luggage you have strapped to your back. Realisation hits him like a ton of bricks.
“You’re leaving, too,” he says in a flat tone. If you didn’t know any better, you’d say he sounded defeated and heartbroken because the only constant in his life, you, was changing too.
“I am,” you answer, your voice taking on an edge of panic as you continue, “Hunter, I think something bad is going to happen. First there're more troopers in town, then Rex was here going on about chips in your heads?”
You knew some viewed the clones poorly, as little more than things of Kaminoan property, but the very thought they had something in their heads controlling them? It sent shivers down your spine. It was too cruel.
“Hey, hey, take it easy,” Hunter murmurs, trying to soothe you. With a gentle hand, he caresses your cheek. “Let’s head inside. I’ll explain everything that I can.”
You nod and follow Hunter into the house. Taking a seat at the table with Cut and Suu, Hunter fills everyone in on the situation, including what Tech had learned about the inhibitor chips and how their deviant nature prevented the chip from affecting them. Well, some of them.
The conversation brought an unsettling atmosphere to the typically warm and loving home. Hunter and Cut both possessed a strong sense of duty to protect their respective families, but sitting around thinking wasn’t doing them any good.
Suu clapped her hands, snapping everyone out of their turbulent thoughts. There was still more packing to be done, and it was time to focus on the task at present if they wanted to catch the next shuttle off-world.
Hunter’s helping you clear out the Lawquane’s barn when the storm finally reaches the homestead. The rain began as a gentle melody of pitter-patter on the roof, but soon turned into a torrential downpour. Lightning flashes, followed by a roar of thunder so loud that is shakes the barn.
The light in the barn flickers, and your first instinct is to reach for Hunter. He takes you by the hand, guiding you closer and into his protective embrace. Another boom of thunder and the light goes out, plunging the barn into darkness.
You push on the door, peering outside at the wall of rain that blocks your view of the house only a few feet away. “Well, what do we do now? There’s no way we’re getting through that, and the barn is taken care of.”
“Don’t worry,” Hunter says, his voice low and suggestive. His grip on you tightens. “I might have a few ideas about what we can do.”
“Oh, you do, huh? I’m all ears then.” You purr, reaching up to grasp the back of his neck and pull him into a searing kiss.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The air is thick with tension when you arrive at the spaceport. Everyone is nervous and Suu does her best to keep the kids calm, and you try to follow her lead. Cut wasn’t helping the matter by panicking the closer the group got to the check-in kiosk — with no chain codes.
“Something’s wrong. Omega should’ve been here by now,” Cut whispered.
“Stick to the plan, Cut.” Hunter placed his hand on Cut’s shoulder, hoping to keep the other man calm. They ducked their heads as two troopers march past them. You avert your gaze, reaching up to pull the brim of your hat down to shield your face.
“I can’t risk it. We have to find another way.”
“I’m here!” Omega bounded over with a triumphant smile, holding out the disks for Cut to take. “Tech accidentally made an extra one.”
Cut frowned and looked at Hunter accusingly. “You didn’t tell her?”
“Tell me what?” Omega asked, looking between Cut and Hunter with wide, eager eyes. You wanted to interrupt and praise the young girl for getting the chain codes here by herself, but you don’t. Hunter had backed himself into a corner, and much like Cut, you were disappointed Hunter hadn’t told her sooner.
As Suu walks by, Hunter hands her the satchel he was carrying for her. He kneels in front of Omega, letting out a deep sigh. “The extra code is for you. You need a family, kid.”
“But I want to stay with you.” Omega’s voice sounded so small, and hurt that your heart broke for her. You understood her feelings well. You didn’t want to go to some remote planet and start a new life either — you wanted to be with Hunter.
“You have to go. It’s for your own good.” Hunter pats Omega on the shoulder, much like when he’d comfort his brothers, and stands up.
“Hunter —” Your voice trembles as you struggle to keep a lid on your emotions. You’re determined to not cause a scene by breaking down in tears in the middle of a crowded port.
“It’s just for a little while.” Hunter moves closer, stopping you from saying anything more. “You’re going to get on that shuttle and not look back. And when it’s over, I’ll come find you, okay?”
You nod and throw yourself at him, wrapping your arms around his neck. Hunter catches you and embraces you tightly, crushing you against his chest. His face twists in pain at the thought of leaving you again. This wasn’t what he wanted either, but he’s decided to see it through, convinced that it was what’s best for you and Omega.
He pulls back and kisses you goodbye, and you can’t help but feel that it may very well be the last time. You slide your fingers through the strands of hair at the back of his neck and kiss him back, pouring all your feelings into it.
You force yourself to break away first, your heart heavy knowing that if you didn’t, you knew you’d never let him go. Hunter pulls away, forcing himself to smile as he wipes a stray tear from your cheek.
“Stop holding up the line!” A trooper calls out from up ahead.
You adjust the strap of your satchel and offer your hand to Omega, who hesitantly accepts it. Even if Hunter wasn’t a permanent part of your lives, you were still determined to take care of her. You and Omega take one last glance at Hunter before joining the line for the shuttle.
Hunter’s feet seem to weigh him down, rooting him in place as he watches you and Omega pass through the check-in. He never doubted Tech’s skills. Of course, the chain codes would work, but something kept him there — pulling him toward you and Omega.
Until his communicator beeps.
“Hunter,” Tech begins, “We have worn out our welcome. We need to go now.”
“I’m on my way.” Hunter answers. With a final, longing glance, he gathers himself and rushes off to meet the others at the impound lot. He couldn’t indulge in Hunter the man any longer. He needed to be Sergeant Hunter. Clone and brother.
You catch Hunter disappearing into the crowd out of the corner of your eye. So, this was it then. All that remained now was to put your bags with the others and board the shuttle. But you couldn’t do it. You stood there, staring at the pile, clutching Omega’s hand, and refusing to move.
“Ready?” Suu’s gentle voice caught you off guard, jolting you out of your trance.
“Suu.. I — I don’t think I can do this.” You sniff and bite at your lip to keep yourself from outright crying. Omega held your hand tighter, looking up at you with a mixture of concern and a tiny spark of hope.
“Home is where the heart is,” Suu says with a smile, placing her hand on your arm before tenderly running her fingers through Omega’s hair. “And yours is clearly with Hunter. Go.”
That was it. It made no sense why you needed someone’s permission to chase after your happiness, but it was exactly what you needed to hear. You hug Suu, uttering a quick goodbye and a promise to stay in touch before hurrying off toward the impound lot with Omega.
You know you’re close when you hear the sound of blaster fire.
“Look! There they are!” Omega shouts, pointing at the still grounded Marauder as you dash through the streets. You recognise Wrecker’s larger form wrestling the clamp off the ship.
“Not for long though, let’s hurry!”
The troopers that arrived in response to the commotion have taken up positions at the front of the lot. Luckily, the Bad Batch keeps them distracted. They don’t notice you and Omega hastily sneaking around the containers and climbing over the barricades.
“Wait for us!” Omega calls out, waving her hand in the air. It catches Hunter’s attention, but also that of a nearby trooper. A trooper neither you nor Omega notice as you duck down to avoid stray blaster fire.
“You two!” Hunter gasps as Omega rushes out from behind the container with you trying to keep up behind her. She barely acknowledges the dazed trooper climbing to his feet, and tries to go around him.
“Omega! Look out!” You shouted, but the warning came too late. The trooper reaches out, grabbing the girl’s ankle, causing her to fall. Hunter handles it with ease, shooting both the trooper who grabbed Omega, and past you at the one who had come up from behind.
You let out a startled yelp and rush to Omega’s side to help her back to her feet. Hunter covers you, picking off troopers that were closing in. He looks you both over for any injuries before pushing you toward the ship.
Omega scrambles up the ramp and onto the Marauder. You clamour in after her, and collapse onto the floor, drained of your energy as the adrenaline rush wears off. With everyone safely on board, Echo and Tech climb into the pilot seats and take off.
The Marauder is eerily silent as it makes its way away from Saleucami.
No one’s talking. You expected Hunter to give you and Omega an earful, to scold you about putting your lives in danger, or demanding to know why you didn’t stay with Cut and Suu — but it never came. He remained focused on the console in front of him.
While you were content to avoid the sure-to-be awkward conversation for now, Omega wasn’t. Taking a deep breath, the young girl slipped away from your side and approached Hunter. You stay seated, watching them closely, nervous.
“I know I made a mistake, and I’ve got a lot to learn.. but you don’t have to get rid of me! I left Kamino with you. This is where I want to be,” Omega gestures back at you, “Where we want to be!”
If Omega could bravely confront him about her feelings, then so could you. You get up from the seat and join them by the console, nervously wringing your hands together.
“It’s true, Hunter. We know it’s dangerous being here, and we both accept that. I — We want to be with you.”
Hunter’s eyes widen. He seems genuinely shocked by the confession, as if he had never considered the possibility that you’d be willing to build a life with him while they were on the run from the Empire.
“To tell you the truth, I guess I’ve got a lot to learn too.” Hunter reaches for your hand, and you intertwine your fingers with his. He flashes a smile at you before looking back at Omega. “But if this is where you want to be, then here is where you’ll both stay.”
