How it happens

After the Fairy Gala, Vil saw so much potential in the two of you! But you're wasting it! It isn't long before he's sticking both of you in forced etiquette behavioral lessons.

He's letting Epel escape lessons in favor of keeping the two of you. Rook is confused, and asks if he may be overreacting, and Vil snaps. No! He is not overreacting.

Anyway, after about four months of this, Vil realizes part of his anger is actually just his jealousy that he wasn't a part of your couple. And the rest is history.

What these three Aries' get up to

All of you feel deeply. So the simmering rage is just so much worse…and all of you enable it for each other. Lots of conversations begin with…

"It's so unfair that ______!"

And you both respond…

"Yeah! It's infuriating! We should kill them!"

But because you feel so deeply, it means your romance burns hard as well. It is not uncommon for some unlucky student to stumble upon 2 or 3 of you making out in a broom closet. And while Vil wants to keep up a flawless reputation….he doesn't want to enough to stop these impromptu make out sessions, or to fix his hair after one you accidentally messes it up from running your fingers through it.

Vil still wants you both to be perfect though. So a lot of times, when he gives you and Ruggie something to do to "improve your moral character", you'll both do it, but with heavy glares, and so much spite that anyone else would have perished under your gaze.

But if someone else tries to make any of the three of you do something you don't want to….may the seven help their souls! By going after one of you, they have invoked the protective wrath of the other two.

The good thing about all three of you being Aries' is that none of you need to apologize. If there's an argument, you all just yell at eachother, and then an hour later it's like it never happened. Your friends will see you sitting in Ruggie's lap, while holding Vil's hand, and be like, "aren't you fighting?" And you'll be like, "No?"

In summary, you're a very passionate trio. I would tell you guys to try and calm down a little, but I think the three of you get one another, so you'll probably be okay the way you are.

a fate worse than getting a call from the county jail

twin au where danny is put on trial in the ghost zone but since the ghost zone's judicial system is a mess they call for a character witness from various periods of his life bc he's still technically living

(a word about the court proceedings. due to the fact that i know next to nothing abt real court and i don't want to do research for a prompt i have no time to write, the entire trial is going to be on some ace attorney bullshit.)

damian gets ghost jury duty (i know it's not jury duty but that was too funny not to write)

as it turns out, getting the news that your brothers ghost is still around from a glowing green figure that materialized in your dining room is not a great way to get news. if you want to start the trial right away, damian is whisked off in his pjs. if he gets some time, it takes place that night. still, it's not a lot of time to process that you're about to see your dead brother who is apparently a criminal.

well dannys always technically been a criminal. murder is very much illegal no matter what age you are.

damian isn't allowed to know what the charges are bc it may influence how he recounts the testimony. this does not bode well to damian.

danny on the other hand does NOT know that damian is even going to be there. so the first time they lock eyes across the court room danny is a complete mess.

but guess what's an even bigger mess? the fact that the last time the twins saw each other they were literal baby assassins.

the character witness doesn't help in the slightest. if anything it goes even worse (but for who?)

damian gets to bond with the ghosts of the far frozen during the recess.

WAIT IS FROSTBITE DANNYS LAWYER?? if so i will only be putting him in more elaborate robes, no matter how funny the idea of him in a suit and tie is. non western traditional garb is professional and i will not fall into that pit.

he's basically the pheonix wright of the courtroom. he's gonna get the job done but by god is he gonna make some mistakes.

damian is going to have to be his maya or smth. damian is reading the court files (which are horribly put together who wrote this shit??) to try and help frostbite put a case together and???? WTF HAS HIS BROTHER BEEN DOING WITH HIS AFTERLIFE

to those wondering where the rest of the trio are, they weren't allowed to know where the trial is taking place due to their history of helping danny break out of prison. this doesn't stop them from trying to break him out. or stop them from getting help 👀👀

that's right kiddos, they go to gotham. not for the bats, but to figure out why one of the waynes is at one of the most prolific ghost trials in centuries (dannys gone around the block at this point. people are curious to see the verdict, if any)

Headcanons About The Next Generation After TLH (Part One?)

Because I'm afraid of not getting much info on the next generation after tlh, I need to make headcanons:

Alexander Lightwood: Definitely has some deep rooted trauma about the whole being forced to take runes. Even when he gets old enough and even after he's been doing it a while, runes scare him, and it's hard each time to get them as needed. So he strives to be so good at being a Shadowhunter, that he won't need that many runes to help him. This leads to him constantly training, trying so hard to be the best. This probably doesn't make him popular amongst his peers, viewing him as way too intense and a bit of a hardass. This probably leads him to hanging out a lot with Owen and all the other younger kids more often then people his own age. He wants to train them, but the other kids are kinda scared to given how hardcore he goes with training. But he never gives up, practically begging to train the other kids everytime he sees them, only to be turned down each and everytime. His family definitely worries about him fighting, since he puts on the bare minimum of runes. He fights with all he has regardless, and his family wants him to stop being so reckless, but he never listens. I'd like to think he eventually makes friends his own age that understand him, gaining a parabatai even. Maybe his parabatai helps him with his fear of runes, since getting runes from a parabatai is supposed to be a different experience.

Zachary Carstairs: Lived with his mom in Persia until 1911 when she died, then moved in with Alastair and Thomas in Paris. Then, when Zachary finally began healing, in 1915 Thomas died too, probably in battle. So at only 12 this kid is well versed in loss. (Don't know if these death dates are canon anymore but its all i have to work with) Alastair decides to move back to London to be closer to his friends and sister to deal with the loss, and hopefully get Zachary, who had been too absorbed in the grief of his mother to make friends, to not isolate himself once again and make some connections. After all, Alastair knows all about self isolating himself out of pain, and gives some pretty inspiring advice to Zachary, but he's still struggling. Zachary's a naturally quiet person, he'll be in a room for a while before he's noticed, always surprising people with his presence; Definitely has a rep for being creepy because of that. He's definitely better at sneaking up on demons in a more of a sneak attack thing then just straight on, also enjoys spying. He and the Fairchild twins definitely become very close, forming a little tight knit trio.

Tamara "Tammie" Fairchild and Theodore "Theo" Fairchild (The Fairchild Twins): Their parents are much older than everyone else's parents, so they often find themselves worried about their parents dying sooner then they would like. Tammie adores record keeping any and everything. She likes knowing things, and thinks everyone should know everything as well, often leading to her giving a lot of unwanted rants to others. She writes any and everything down. (She definitely hates Esme with a burning passion) She just really wants a well written record of history for the next generations to come. She is well versed in extracting information from people. She fights demons very robotically almost; she’s good at it, it’s just very cold like. Theo loves fighting, it's honestly a bit concerning. He's a bit addicted to the adrenaline of it. He always came home covered in bruises and the biggest smile, just gotten into another fight on purpose. He fights demon like a monster really, it's kind of scary. Henry probably heard of 'this cool new thing called art therapy' and Theo actually became quite the artist. So the trio of these twins and Zachary definitely have a bit of a rep for being intimidating.

Owen Herondale: No idea if this guy is still canon due to the family tree mess, but I'm just going to assume it is. I think it would be funny if he, unlike every other Herondale to ever exist, is amazing at communicating his feelings, as well as other people's feelings. He's like, 'it's okay, I know you're only lashing out in a misguided attempt to protect me because you care about me, but I assure you this kind of thing is self destructive'. He very much acts as an unlicensed therapist, and random people often just pop up to discuss their problems to him. But he's still a Herondale, so of course there needs to be something, so he often finds himself disregarding his own feelings to help others; He is carrying a lot of people's emotional burdens, and it can be exhausting. He's definitely way too good at playing chess, Cordelia and James having taught him, turning him into a bit of a strategist when fighting demons and other aspects of life.

Lydia Kingsmill: Again, no idea if this is still canon, but here we are. Lydia, ngl, interests me so much; She isn't from one of the main Shadowhunter families we're used to. We know nothing of the Kingsmill's. I'd say since she's basically the only Kingsmill we know of, that the Kingsmill's are probably a family that have a bit of a Lovelace situation. They aren't usually super involved, doing the bare minimum. Maybe Lydia's parents decided to quit when she was a kid, but she refused, wanting to become a true Shadowhunter. So she gave them an ultimatum; her, or a peaceful life. They choose a peaceful life, and she ran off to live in the London Institute. This, naturally, is how she got involved with the Herondales, the Carstairs, the Lightwoods, the Fairchilds, and the Blackthorns. She's definitely incredibly stubborn, probably thinks she needs to be the best because she literally left her parents for this, so every she takes every mistake very hard. The only one that actually trains with Alexander (he literally cries when she accepts). Her and Owen, of course, in his Herondale nature, have quite the love story. They met young, when she first ran away, and she does not appreciate this guy that can tell she's secretly in pain.

How the adult trio deal with having a crush

Brand new content from me for this new sideblog! As the title says, this is a list of headcanons  about how I imagine each member of the adult trio would behave if they had a crush on the reader.

Illumi

·       Definitely the least functional of the trio when it comes to handling a crush.

·       If you’re in the same room/space he will watch you constantly. He can’t help it, you’re beautiful to him and he just can’t take his eyes off you.

·       Low key stalks you – wherever you are he’ll be nearby. Even if he needs to be somewhere far away from you for a mission, he’ll still know exactly where you are/who you’re with etc.

·       Will do an extensive background check on you, he probably knows your family history better than you do.

·       If you have any exes that hurt you or were ever bullied in your life, those people are now dead.

·       Probably didn’t even know that what he was feeling was a crush until someone else (most likely Hisoka) pointed it out.

·       Is freaked out and ashamed that he has feelings for someone. Assassins don’t need feelings he’s been trained to avoid this, why is this happening???

·       Tries to hide his crush. No-one can know about it; feelings are weak after all! (Literally everyone knows he’s into you. It’s painfully obvious and the more he tries to hide it the more obvious it becomes)

·       Has definitely considered killing you to stop this crazy obsession. Ultimately decided against it since that would mean not getting to see you anymore.

·       His internet history is a rabbit hole of wikihows on how to get over a crush/talk to a crush/get them to notice you/how to plan a wedding.

·       Somehow still clueless.

·       It’s sad because all this shame comes from trauma and abuse

·       But the sheer awkwardness is also kind of cute.

·       Chances are, if you like him back, you’ll have to make the first move, and the second, and probably third too…

·       If he somehow does ask you out first though it will be AWKWARD AF.

·       Probably sounds more like a command to go out with him than a request, but there’s a little hint of a blush on his cheeks that gives away how nervous he is.

·       He doesn’t actually mean to be creepy towards you; he just has NO IDEA how to act like a normal person at the best of times, and the fact you make him feel things just makes him get even stranger.

·       Not big on physical affection, will absolutely be a blushing mess if your hands accidently touch even slightly. If you do date him it could take some time before he starts to enjoy being touched and even longer before he actively seeks physical touch.

·       You’ll need set up clear boundaries and have a lot of patience, but if you do date him it’ll be worth it as he gets more comfortable with you.

·       If you two do get together, Illumi will expect full commitment and pretty quick too. Expect to be married within a year.

·       If you’re not interested, be gentle but be clear. He won’t persist if you reject him, but he will be a sad boy deep down. (why would you reject him though, he’s so pretty and just wants to be loved?)

  Hisoka

·       Oh. This boy.

·       Not remotely ashamed/embarrassed by his crush on you.

·       Makes it a point to make his attraction known to you, and anyone else in the vicinity. Often explicitly.

·       Will make any excuse to be around you.

·       Shows off constantly whenever he’s around you (with his nen, his card tricks, bragging about his latest fight or even just walking around shirtless for no reason).

·       Endless compliments, flirting and innuendo.

·       Hands. Everywhere. Hisoka is a very tactile person so expect to be used as an armrest/headrest if you’re shorter than him (likely) and for little touches to your shoulders/arms/legs as he talks to you. Will also chance his luck grabbing your ass and playing footsie with you if you’re at a table

·       He will ask you out first.

·       He’ll invite you on a date initially to have some class, but he’s not shy about just straight up propositioning you for sex.

·       He’s not fussy about taking it slow

·       If you do date him it might not necessarily be a serious or long-term thing, but it will be fun.

·       If you reject him, (Again, why would you reject him? Have you not SEEN those abs???) he won’t be deterred. He’ll see it as a challenge and keep pursuing you, enjoying it if you get annoyed (he may ease up on the touching if you’re really uncomfortable but don’t expect much else).

·       If you keep rejecting him, he will eventually either find someone else or just get bored and leave you alone.

 Chrollo

·       Honestly the most normal of the three.

·       Will do some background research on you to make sure you meet his high standards. May discreetly “acquire” some of your possessions/photos which he’ll keep safely hidden away.

·       Not embarrassed by his crush on you, but definitely more refined and subtle in the way he pursues it.

·       Carefully engineers situations where he can interact with you directly.

·       Actually works to build a rapport with you before asking you out.

·       Pretty smooth talker, very charming and gives a lot of compliments.

·       Direct in asking you out, it’s very clear he likes you and wants to take you on a date.

·       Genuinely interested in you, curious about your hobbies/passions/likes and dislikes.

·       Gives you a lot of gifts that relate to what you talk about. (Don’t ask where/how he gets them!)

·       Won’t touch you until he’s certain you’re interested, and even then, he keeps things very classy and respectful.

·       Is always very cool and suave on the outside, but inside he gets excited to see you and longs to touch you. Already thinks of you as his.

·       If you do date him, it’ll likely be a long-term thing that he’ll take slowly and carefully but with strong commitment.

·       If you turn him down, (I actually WOULD turn Chrollo down so no questions on your taste here) he’ll be very gracious about it and won’t continue to pursue you. (Likely to disappear for a long time without any warning though. There may also be a spike in large scale crime which may or may not be related).

·       You may find yourself being hunted down by the remaining Phantom Troupe members for “disrespecting the Boss” if you reject Chrollo.

I really love all your analyses!! tbh i think in overwatch but especially in blackwatch cassidy was seen as "low maintenance" when it came to physical and mental care because he was so used to having to fend for himself that everyone just assumed so

Couldn't put it into better words myself. But it isn't just the fact that he's always had to fend for himself, yes it started that way for everyone else but with Cassidy he was always responsible for someone else. In the Crisis he wasn't able to let himself feel, he needed to survive, that was the goal, in Deadlock he was responsible for Ashe, Julian and Frankie, making sure they didn't get caught, injured or kidnapped. In Blackwatch he was responsible for Genji, he also became the "big brother", the role model to a lot of the younger characters, specifically Tracer and Pharah. At that point he wasn't allowed to feel, to mess up, to make mistakes or fully let himself relax because people were counting on him, looking up to him. And then no one listened to him when he told people the things happening with Blackwatch, with Reyes, with Moira.

Then Gerard died, Ana died, Mina died, Mei and Sigma went missing, Echo was put into quarantine, and he was everyone else's shoulder to cry on. He most likely comforted Reyes when Gerard, Ana and Mina died, he comforted Pharah when Ana died, comforted Mercy when Mei and Sigma disappeared and he most likely only let himself feel anger when Echo was put into quarantine. Everyone else around him was falling apart so he needed to stay strong, after all he could take care of himself, right? He was low maintenance. He was surrounded by death and betrayal his entire life, he could handle it.

Then the Swiss Base incident happened and he spiraled. I've gone into some details about this but it's heavily implied that Cassidy is a functional alcoholic (getting blackout drunk at various bars, a lot of his interactions/voice lines involving alcohol), it's also somewhat implied that Cassidy has relapsed back into smoking (his old voice line with Mercy and his behavior around Ana). He was taken away from every support system he had and now that he finally needed one it was gone. He was a wanted criminal with a 60 million bounty on his head, he couldn't talk to anyone, he didn't want to put them in danger.

I think the only people who know and understand what Cassidy has gone through are Angela, Ana and Sombra.

Angela is very similar to Cassidy in that people view her as low maintenance, she's the golden child, the medical prodigy, she's the support for everyone around her, a golden light of hope for the future. It's why you will always see me say that Angela and Cassidy are each others comfort person. They've known each other for 20 years, have been in Overwatch for the same amount of time, they were used and lied to by the people they thought they could trust. There's a reason Ana had to talk both of them into joining Overwatch again.

Ana has only recently realized how everything affected Cassidy, and there is now doubt in my mind that she feels responsible for what he's gone through. She's the only one out of the Old Soldiers Trio who doesn't glorify Cassidy's time in Blackwatch, whereas both Reaper and Solider have voice/elimination lines that indicate they don't grasp the fact that Cassidy was more negatively impacted by his time in Blackwatch.

Then there's Sombra, we don't see much of they're dynamic in cannon but the fact that Sombra has seen Cassidy blackout drunk at a bar, has seen his search history (listen, I know it's a joke but she defiantly saw some concerning stuff in that search history), and is the character with the most similar backstory to him. Orphaned survivor of the crisis joins a gang then ends up working for a big organization.

I defiantly think that Cassidy is on his last footing, which makes me worried for when he finds out about Reaper. Cause either Angela is going to tell him or he's going to figure it out on his own. And as much as I'm of the opinion Cassidy isn't going to be merciful towards Reaper, I don't think he's going to have a healthy reaction.

Hopefully the New Blood crew will help him when he starts to spiral, because they are all very similar to him.

Twitter drama, fandom history: what happened with mha362 and the reddit situation - part 1

I decided to annotate a bit of fandom history. In particular, the whole twitter drama that happened these past weeks, mainly the past week, around mha362: Vocal Pineapple, the reddit post, the fights etc.. I will have some screenshots, but the rest is from memory, while it is still fresh.

On twitter I follow mainly Todobaku, Bakudeku and Izuocha accounts, plus some general BNHA accounts. So my information come from them, and I might have missed other shippers accounts or events, so please, keep that in mind.

I just want to specify that many people who are Bakugou haters/dislike Bakugou were absolutely normal people, NICE people, just the usual anime fans. Rejoying or not, they never went into people's profiles to pick at fans or started to throw bait tweets around.

Regarding what happened, it mainly started with this:

A lot of people, I am sure, were talking about ships and characters and the chapter itself, but Vocal Pineapple (anime youtuber) was probably the biggest twitter user to do so. VP also, previouly, specifically wrote tweet for Bakudeku fans (telling them that he understands the ship) to get more followers, as there are a lot of Bakudekus so... having them as followers is quite beneficial.

It is just a tweet, but because of how popular VP is, it kinda let to many other twitter users less kind than VP to start insulting shippers.

EDIT: I wanted to add that VP was already tweeting with Bkdk shippers before the chapter was dropped, so the reason for this tweet was probably in reply to the fact that he had misinterpreted a post being about Izuocha. The tweet in question was a pro-Kiribaku one about Deku being a stalker (? my memory is foggy). A bkdk fan talked about how at least bkdk had canon moment, and people thought they were attacking Izuocha. VP tweeted/retweeted about it and was in a "tweet discourse" with bkdk fans. So some kind of ship exchange. This might be why he decided to phrase this leaks tweet this way, because he was fighting with bkdk fans.

Again, my memory of the kiribaku tweet is foggy, so take it with a grain of salt. Also I only saw people talking about it after.

The chapter was extra dramatic, throwing everyone in shamble. A free for all. And MHA was trending like nothing before:

The rest was an immediate mess, where people were retweeting him, replying to him, etc. Any reply that would disagree with him would immediately end up with being dogpiled by his followers.

VP was not the only one. A lot of people were posting pictures of "Bakugou's last moments" in reply to Bkdk's users or Bakugou's fans tweets. Plus random people made videos:

People posting Bakugou related ships on unmoderated subreddits (this is from Kamijirou) would receive tons of anti-comments: (this was for a Kiribaku ship in a trio of Izuocha, Kiribaku, Kamijirou, posted on the Kamijirou subreddit)

Random homophobia, random no-spoilers.

DEATH THREATS AND SIMILAR

Then this happened:

Two users (both under 16 or 17 years old) made these retweets of Vocal Pineapple, basically asking for his death. I do not know if anyone reprimanded them (hopefully they did), because these are absolutely wrong and distasteful, and basically equating to death threats/wishes on him.

So death threats were sent to VP (maybe as messages too, I am not sure!). I tried to ask for all of the accounts, as I believe in making sure my part of the fandom acts correctly, but the only ones I have received (not by VP but another user) were those two, who are both minors.

(By the way, VP user name will change a lot, mainly because he kept changing it every couple of hours to taunt Bakugou's death or Bkdks, but if you see a pineapple that is him).

Given that he received these threats, Pineapple thought it would be great to retweet this:

Where he rejoyced about the chance of people being suicidal.

People came in to defend this retweet. Their main argumentations were more suicide jokes, trolling or this attempt at "being considerate": That tweet is okay, but actually tweeting stuff like "If Bakugou dies I die/I will commit suicide" is wrong because it minimizes issues and makes a mockery of suicide.

This user thought he knew that every person joking has absolutely no actual diagnosis, they are just "mocking suicide".

These were the "so many posts"

And this was their reasoning for defending why it was okay to retweet or tweet about "Cheering for suicide of other people".

Except that when I showed them the opposite, the people asking for death if other characters would die, I only received silence.

In general, people (bkdks and Bakugous fans) were posting very dramatic reactions (as expected from the death of a character so popular) which were being hijacked or screenshotted by antis, for the purpose of mocking. Some anties even just left pictures of dead Bakugou under bkdk fans, for the hell of it.

Some people added random comments, trying to gaslight bkdk fans about Bakugou having the card, without even looking at the panels:

2. MISGENDERING

The other big mess was the recording. Someone had recorded one of those twitter spaces vocal/audio chats. Another user (JayKnY) decided to share one of these recordings which had users finding out about mha362 and crying (I did not want to listen to it, but from the mocking, this was what was happening):

Sadly, not all those people were adults. V. Pineapple retweeted the recording and the mockery, but deleted the retweets after finding out that there had been some minors in the audio.

A lot of people retweeted the video, and many misgendered one of the recorded people. It was really a shitshow of transphobia. With zero empathy:

Except that they did never apologize neither took down the misgender-retweet. hello and welcome to another instalment of This Book Has More Than Two Characters I Swear! this time we have judge, calliope and max, a trio of oddballs who pallas has a history with and agnes is meeting for the first time. they’re all really fun to write (calliope especially) and have really grown on me as the plot has progressed lol

The one all in white cocks her head to the side, face twisted in a weird not-smile. Agnes has never seen a girl with hair this short and bright before, a soft cap of copper offset by a multitude of dangling earrings, little charms hanging from pastel ribbons that tinkle whenever she moves. Her face is very oval and her smile is very crooked and wide across it, freckles wrinkling up around her nose in disdain.

“Would you look at that Judge? It’s the principal's little lapdog,” she says in a high, dramatic drawl. “Thought you’d finally gone and found a hole to die in Bloodhound, to what do we owe the pleasure?”

She bows mockingly and from behind the shelves Agnes winces, but Pallas doesn’t even blink. 

“Ah Calliope, glad to see you’ve lost none of your charm,” they say cooley. “Your nights have been restful, I presume?”

The girl in whites smirk shifts into a very unlovely snarl and she moves forward. But before Agnes has time to squeeze her eyes closed a hand comes forward to rest on Calliopes shoulder. From her narrow view between the shelves Agnes can see the third figure stepping forward, touch instantly setting her friend to rest. She’s tall, wrapped in a long tweed coat with straight, narrow black braids framing a straight, narrow brown face, and Agnes is struck in the moment by just how small Pallas is. Smaller than her and definitely smaller than this person. They look almost frail in comparison.

“Easy, it’s not worth it,” the second girl says, her voice deep and raspy and flat. Then, to Pallas: “What do you want?”

“A favour.”

“Interesting idea, one counterpoint: why would I ever do anything for you?”

“Because you owe me Judge. Because if it wasn’t for me you’d be dead.”

At this the one called Calliope starts laughing until a stern “Cal, please” cuts it off. Agnes has never been good with expressions but she thinks the girl with braids—Judge—looks more confused than anything else, a tiny divot appearing between her dark brows. “You’ve never asked for anything before, why now?”

“I’m very tired,” Pallas says and Agnes takes a moment to marvel at how a conversation can somehow sound like the clash of steel on steel. “And I don’t want to go through the mess of making Max’s little brain come out his ears to get you to listen. I'm not going to take chances on this. It’s quite delicate.”

Calliope’s face twists again and she steps further in front of turtleneck boy. There’s something off about her eyes. This is a place filled with terrifying people with weird eyes. “Wanna say that again you demented little–“

“Cal. Not. Worth it.”

“But—“

“They’re trying to rile you, it’s what they do,” Judge says, knowing and measured, straight-edged profile facing her friend before she turns back to Pallas. “Spare the theatrics Bloodhound, and tell me what it is you need. I can decide whether it’s worth my time from there.”

Agnes is starting to think that Pallas smiling is never a good thing, this one is tiny and contemptuous and probably means you are but a tiny ant and I will not hesitate before squishing you very badly under my chunky black boots, or something like that. Judge doesn’t seem like she can be squished, but there’s a first time for everything. “It’s funny you think this is a negotiation, but all right.”

And then they turn and their awful, awful eyes meet hers from between the books. They make an unmistakable beckoning motion with their hand and Agnes has to scramble to drag herself up, avoiding putting pressure on her bad ankle. She pokes her head out from behind the shelves and waves slightly, unsure of what else to do. 

“She’s hurt,” Pallas says, not even sparing a look her way. “You’re going to heal her.” 

The redheaded Calliope makes a whistling sound between her teeth and says: “You’ve gotta be kidding me.” Then she turns towards Judge, who’s already looking Agnes up and down in a way that makes her feel the most awkward she’s ever felt in her life. It’s a magnifying glass stare, one that catalogues and processes, every inch of her laid bare. The line between Judges eyebrows deepens and Calliope says again, now in a tone of complete exasperation and disbelief: “You’ve gotta be kidding me.”

“Cal–“

“Nope. No way.”

“Calliope–“

“We’re not helping the creepy little murderer! Group Rule Number One is not helping creepy little murderers!”

“Group Rule Number One is about healthy communication.”

“Semantics!”

The boy in the black turtleneck and glasses looks out from behind Calliope. The short crop of dreadlocks on top of his head have been strung through here-and-there with colourful beads that pop against his dark clothing. Agnes gives him a nervous smile, hoping that her mouth is moving the way mouths are supposed to move when they smile, and is relieved beyond measure when he raises one hand in a tiny wave. Agnes leans against the towering bookshelf, feeling a lot like she’s stepped into a place she shouldn’t be while Pallas makes a show of examining their nails. 

“It’s just one girl. It won’t cost me anything.” 

“Oh don’t ignore basics, there’s always a cost. And besides, it’s Bloodhound business!” Calliope hisses, pointing as the Bloodhound picks a tiny bit of dirt from under their left ring fingernail.

“Calliope, please,” Judge says in a voice that Papá used on Mother all the time. The I don’t wanna fight voice. The we can talk about this later but not right now voice. Agnes' face burns from just looking at the two of them. Her ankle and throat will probably be fine, why did Pallas have to bring her here at all?

Calliope puts her face in her hands in what must be defeat because Pallas smiles a smile like a crack in marble, and Judge sighs in a soft, exhausted kind of way that makes guilt bubble like mud in Agnes’s stomach. 

“Okay,” she says. “But you’ve got to do something for us.”

Pallas raises an eyebrow. “I’m not bartering with you Judge.”

“Tough luck,” Judge deadpans. She turns to Calliope and the boy in black: “Max-Attack, Cal, this’ll only take a few minutes.” And then looks directly at Agnes, who jumps: “Come on then, we don’t have all day.”

Most Important Scenes - Isi Inci

Part 5 of my essays on favorite scenes for each character.

This is going to be a long one, featuring no less than 10 scenes, from season 5 to 7, simply because Isi has a lot going on. Of course, their gender identity journey, but also the toxic friendship with Constantin and their history of being a bully. Also, Isi is part of a different friend group, which dynamics we have never seen before and which therefore needs to have time to develop as well. And with all of that, the writers of season 7 introduced not one, but two new central characters, one of which is Isi's Love Interest, thus creating yet another storyline to be told.

The result of this is that I could pick almost any scene (apart from those featuring the 'weird trio') and argue why it is an important step on Isi's journey. And it makes me angry AGAIN, because with all of these storylines in need of completion, who on earth thought it would be a good idea to waste half of the season on a Love triangle without any impact on Isi's story? Anyways, let's get started.

I like you. I just don't like if you mess with my friends.

We're starting with season 5, where Isi is telling Nora to keep distance from the Instas, at least for some time, because of her break-up with Constantin. The interesting aspect here is we can already see some problematic aspects of the Isi-Consti dynamic. Consti is hurt by Nora's actions, so he wants to have distance to her. He could very well tell her that by himself, but instead it is Isi who has to deliver the bad news. We can be very certain that this decision isn't made by Isi, but they show unreflected support for their friend at that time. They even say "I like you", and the rest of the sentence can be very well translated into "But Constantin doesn't, and I support him, rather than you".

She's not a burger.

The Fatou-Isi friendship was so unexpected, but ended up being one of my favorite friendships of the New Gen, because their dynamic is so funny (with Isi being basically an idiot and Fatou doing her best to not be completely annoyed most of the time).

I can just imagine the writers brainstorming about how to possibly include Isi in Fatous season and make them a more likeable character, so that by the time Fatou's season had ended, people would be open for an Isi-season. And it's hilarious that they had to go all the way and have Isi and Consti steal a turtle, so Isi can ask Fatou to take care of her. Because, let's face it, these two have so little in common that any more 'normal' set-up for their friendship wouldn't have worked.

Speaking of Consti, Isi has to take care of Consti's mess again. Because it is Consti who stole the turtle, and yet poor Maike is with Isi and they have to approach Fatou to find a new place for her.

I always thought you two were like Spongebob and Patrick?

It takes seven more episodes for Isi to realize that there is something wrong with their friendship with Constantin. Probably because this is a rather complicated topic to adress among the Instas, Isi tells Fatou about it. And Fatou has very little pity for Isi and points out that they are not innocent either. Which is the right message at this point, because it leads to Isi doing some self-reflection and help Fatou out for once. This marks the beginning of Isi's (very much needed) character development.

But I think... she just wants to be seen as well.

Kieu My and Isi are not only doing photoshootings/catwalks together, but actually have a pretty close bond. Even if this scene takes place without Kieu My, it tells us a lot about the two of them. Kieu My is heartbroken, but she doesn't isolate herself and turns to Isi for comfort (even at 3am in the night). And Isi stands up for Kieu My after being almost shocked by the fact that Fatou didn't realize how much the break-up affected Kieu My, simply because she pretends to not care at school.

And yes, I'm willfully ignoring the fact that Isi is literally telling their best friend's ex about her most intimate feelings here. But this is very much 'in character' for Isi, not being known for giving things a second thought (probably not even a first one).

I wanted to apologize to you.

Yes, this scene has it's problems and rushed the bullying storyline to an end way too quickly. But it is an important scene nevertheless, because it is the only personal apology to Ava we see on-screen, and it is an important step on Isi's journey of self-discovery as well.

And I am actually obsessed with this shot, because even though Isi is our protagonist, Ava is in the center and light here.

This is one thing I really liked about this scene. It isn't primarily about Isi. They never tried to justify Isi's actions, nor came up with reasons to apologize other than wanting to be a better person. This scene is about Ava, giving her at least a few lines to tell her side of the story and voice her feelings. And yes, that's the bare minimum of what Ava deserved, but it's at least something.

Whatever I do, I don't fit in.

Isi's struggles, no matter how different they may be, are all rooted in the same problem: the need to fit in. This is a problem of every Druck main (and also of every teenager in general, I guess) but Isi really spends a significant amount of time only fulfilling other's expectations. Watching Isi in their own season is so frustrating and confusing at times, because they are literally mostly doing what they are told to. We don't really know what Isi actually wants and what's going on inside of them. Watching them finally opening up to someone felt like a blessing.

"Whatever I do, I don't fit in." Isi says. There is a lot of anger in that sentence, but also something I would almost call desparation. "They want either one thing or the other". And Isi can do neither.

And with that, Isi realizes that they are rather alone in their struggle. The emotion of their monologue changes, from anger to sadness. "And in the end, I'm alone anyways." Which is heartbreaking.

Being queer is a beautiful thing which definitely deserves to get celebrated, but it can be a very lonely experience as well. Because after all, we are a minority. Most people around us are heterosexual and cisgender. We grow up in a society with gender and sexuality norms, to which we never can fully relate, no matter how hard we try to fit in. Being different among a diverse group of people is empowering, but being different in a heteronormative society can make you feel like an outcast.

We have seen Isi dressed in all sorts of clothes, mostly pretty and fancy, but also some to try to confrom to gender roles (in the scene right before). Seeing them wearing something so simple as a grey sweater feels so 'raw'. This is the real Isi, no longer searching for the next thrill to forget their problems, but opening up about them. Showing how vulnerable and in need of comfort they actually are. As sad as this scene is, this is a huge step for Isi, finally articulating what they feel and what they want.

But the most important thing is what you think.

Speaking as a younger sister here, there is something very special about an older sibling's advice. Having grown up in very similar circumstances as you, but also having a few years more of experience, often leads the older sibling to already have dealt with experiences the younger sibling is going through. Which is exactly what is the case with the Inci siblings.

Both Isi and Umut struggle with being influenced by their friends and fulfilling their expectations. In constrast to Umut, Isi has now decided to go their own way and make their own decisions. This shows how Isi has grown as a character (as this was their central struggle, now they can give advice about it). And Umut listens to them and takes the advice. The two siblings make up.

I ... I think I need a 'cut'.

Realizing that you are part of a toxic relationship can be hurtful, and actually getting out of it takes a lot of strenght and decisiveness. And Isi has made their decision to take a break from the friendship with Consti. They manage to calmly state what bothered them in the last few months/weeks, even in the face of Consti's reaction, who does nothing but responding with provocations.

Isi breaks away from Consti's toxic influence, finding the freedom to make their own decisions and making the next steps of their journey without him. Finally.

The pronoun scene

I was shocked to hear that Eren had to fight for the pronoun scene, because that scene single-handedly saved the whole season for me.

I love everything about this scene, beginning with the setting, the people present (e.g. Billie who doesn't use any pronouns) to David's encouraging smile after Isi fills in the second name tag.

It's a bold step to take and use different pronouns, and Isi, still relying on other people's opinions, is hesitating at first: "Is it correct like this?". David reassures them. There is no right or wrong here, and there is no pressure to find a definite answer right now. "You can just try it out for tonight."

And with this, after spending a frustrating amount of time not doing what they really want to do, Isi makes a decision which is solely their own. Finally, they have found a place and a group of people where they can be just "Isi".

Did I hurt you?

I cannot write about Isi scenes without having at least one about Saschisi, but, to be honest, I really struggled to find something here. Because they don't talk much, and if they do, it's either not about them, or just written quite badly. But I tried to make the best out of this.

In this scene, they talk about their relationship, their feelings, and eventually about whatever was going on between Isi and Lou. Isi talks about feeling empowered by Lou, but having 'boiled over', i.e. focussing too much on her and having hurt Sascha in the process. Sascha confirms that and Isi asks: "Did I hurt you?".

Which made me feel very confused in the beginning, because the answer is more than evident for both of them. Of course Isi hurt Sascha, they already talked about this.

But, ignoring the possibility of this being bad writing, maybe the question isn't meant to be taken literally. Because it is so clear that Sascha was hurt, maybe Isi wants to know more about Sascha's feelings. They are giving him the possibility to open up and talk about his emotions, even though this is quite uncomfortable for Isi. But this is the absolute neccesary thing to do, as the two of them need to re-establish their bond of trust. And it is quite mature of Isi give Sascha the space to talk about the way he felt hurt by them, especially after ignoring Sascha's feelings for so long. Another instance of character growth.

Sascha responds with "A little bit." which is the understatement of the year... but again, not taking this too literal, I believe he rather says "Yes, but we'll talk about this another time", therefore keeping cheesy happy romantic setting of the scene, just letting the two of them be in love with each other for the moment.

Vale & Grim

I like to think at some point they kinda become in sync with each other?? Like just over little things!! They'll both tilt their heads at the same time, if Grim does the cat thing to paw at his ears you can catch Vale scratching their head...its a lil cute and Ace probably makes fun of them for it lol

To appease the great Grim, Vale occasionally writes little things for him! They jot down like mini epic tales for the cat to re-read. He gets really defensive over them.

Grim would probably be spoiled by Vale if he did better in classes!! The first time they get a failing grade, Vale is ready to eat his tuna right in front of him (and they don't even like tuna!!). they don't do it ofc but man. Grim plz. do your work!!

I mentioned this in the bday post, but since Grim doesn't have an actual birthday, Vale tells him they'll share theirs! The cat immediately starts asking for gifts from everyone else lol he's too impatient to wait a whole year for gifts.

Heartslabyul & Vale

Ace and Deuce are their homies! Ace tends to be a little more harsh with them though, he just wants Vale to be...not a pushover. He messes with them a lot though. Vale just puts their trust in him so they'll fall for stuff, especially if it's related to Twisted Wonderland lore/history/whatever. (ie. Ace: Did you know chickens here can lay golden eggs? Vale & Deuce: :0c Ace: ...I'm joking it's just a fairytale. Vale & Deuce: 😔) Vale likes his magic tricks!! They'll clap for him whenever he does something even if it's a simple coin trick.

Deuce would go to Vale for studying! tbh he's pretty surprised how good they are in classes?? like damn you're not even from here and your grades are so good?? Deuce initiates the study sessions and Vale ends up leading them at this point. THEY ALSO BOND OVER EGGS!! At some point Vale mentions "fake eggs" to him (like that stuff you use to make scrambled eggs really quick instead of using a real egg) and they just bond over how bad that is. Only real eggs in this house!!

Originally, Vale is in possession of the braincell when with these two but now I'm feeling like they might lose it too lol. They really just go with the flow tbh. They won't skip class or do anything TOO dangerous or stupid, but if they're all like...outside and see a sleeping Floyd and Ace is like "I dare you to poke him", Vale would be against it because why would you do that??? After the trio bickers for a bit they end up going to go and do it.

I think that Riddle might enjoy Vale's company?? At least they're a good study partner. Like Deuce, he's pretty impressed at your grades and how hard they try to learn what they can despite not having magic. Vale would probably ask him a lot of questions about the Queen of Hearts and his home in general. He knows a lot and they can definitely take his word over Ace's for true Twisted Wonderland facts.

I don't have much with Trey or Cater unfortunately. I'd just think Vale always does this ✌️ in Cater's pictures because they don't know what else to do. That's now their staple thing. Iconic.

Savanaclaw & Vale

100% would be like a second Ruggie to Leona if they were around the dorm more. Leona wants something? aye aye captain! He might not take too much advantage of them like he does with Ruggie, but it's not bad having a second helper around. Honestly, he's just kinda waiting for Vale to bark back at him. Kinda like how Ace wants them to have a backbone except not as blunt.

Would also get dragged into helping Ruggie out with whatever he has in mind. He knows he can go to Vale and ask for help and they won't ask for anything in return. But I think he'd be willing to give them something for helping.

Don't have much with Jack rip. I just think Vale can go to him for more heavy lifting jobs. If they have to do anything for Crowley, Jack would be like the first to volunteer to help?? If it's a two man job at least. Vale would listen to him talk about his cacti though. Also wants to touch his tail but they know better.

Octavinelle & Vale

If Vale is ever in need of cash, it's time to go to Octavinelle. Or if they're down a member/short staffed I think Azul would call on them for the assistance. Such a benevolent soul knows they need some money (and food) and he needs help at the lounge. It's a win-win, no? Vale is usually kept to waiting tables or greeting guests.

Azul thinks Vale would be a good fit in his dorm. Not because having this magicless human could be of benefit to him, but because they follow the Sea Witch's benevolence. Yes, Azul is the MOST benevolent person in school, but Vale? Always kind. They answer wishes in a different kind of way. So, he's curious about them. Offers a place in the dorm (and a uniform) constantly. Vale thinks he's pretty cool though and is amazed at what he can do. They want to see his true form again and probably wrote about it at some point. I joked at some point about Vale using Azul as a muse for a novel but it might just be true...shh don't tell him.

Vale tells Jade...too much lol. But can you blame them when Jade offers to lend an ear? He is the reason/inspiration for them starting their book club after all. So there's some solidarity in them being the only members of their clubs. They are also unofficial members of each others clubs at some point?? Basically "if you go to my club meeting I'll go to yours". Also Vale would probably fall for his crocodile tears and help him out if he ever needs it. (Ace screaming in the bg)

Vale cannot escape Floyd. If Floyd wants them then...welp that's it. They can't say no to him and it doesn't help that they're passive about being busy or something. They're the only person to keep up with Floyd's whims so that's why he keeps going back to them. "If you dont wana do something with me, then Shrimpy will!" Anyway forced friendship! He's also the one insisting to take Vale swimming after learning they know how to.

Also Octavinelle folks are the first to find out about Vale's surname being Crowley 😂 At some point Azul needs their full name written down and yeah the contract doesn't need to be magical but he knows that just putting "Vale" down doesn't seal the deal. So...haha...funny last name. Floyd mcfrickin loses it over learning this. Jade does to but at least he hides his laughter.

Scarabia & Vale

Not too much here wah! They just struggle being around Kalim because oh god no he wants to party and how do you say no to constant parties when he looks so happy?! If Vale is stuck with him I feel like they'd tell them commoner things and he'd be like super amazed at it.

Vale turns to Jamil whenever they need an escape. Jamil...does his best but man. Kalim. Please. We busy!!

Pomefiore & Vale

Vale doesn't hang around Pomefiore too often, mostly due to Vil being a busy person. They didn't have much of an opinion of him at first, but they're surprised at how hardworking he is?? And yeah he isn't the nicest person but you know celeb gossip and how celebrities are assholes? They were expecting that from him and surprised that's not really the case. Vale starts watching Vil's movies with Ortho and is becomes a low-key fan later on. Vil probably likes going to Vale because on multiple times they seem to have forgotten who Neige is but not him. That's a win, queen!! Unfortunately, I don't think Vale can last around Vil for too long. He wants perfection and Vale doesn't think they can do everything he says rip

At some point I wanted Vale to go ask Rook to learn about archery from him?? So they can have some kinda self defense in this magic filled world. Still unsure if I'm following through on that (it's either this or go to the eels to learn self-defense and get REKT in the process). Other than that I think Vale would read his poetry?? Mans is so eloquent that they read his stuff and has to reread it again. Good prose and all but not their kinda thing.

Can't think of too much with Epel aside from them asking about apple carving?? Maybe use some for inspiration...Vale is also willing to hide Epel in Ramshackle to get away from Vil. Does it ever work? No. Do they keep doing this? Yes.

Ignihyde & Vale

Ace & Deuce may be the homies, but Ortho was the first!! It starts with Vale being kinda shook that theres a robot/android here in school. It's super sci-fi and they think Ortho is amazing! To others it might look like they're trying to butter him up or something but they're just interested in Ortho. What does he like to do and all that stuff. They're also willing to play games with him when no one else wants to (if Ignihyde boys won't play with him then Vale will!!). While Vale is a pushover, if they're going to stand up for anyone it's going to be Ortho!! Ace is proud of them somewhere...

And Vale's friendship with Ortho is what leads to meeting Idia! Ortho, very early on, makes the connection that Vale is interested in games and anime too. Now it's just getting them to meet. tbh Ortho can hype up Idia and Vale will believe him 100%. It's not like Ortho lies about his brother, he is super smart and he made him too! So yeah Vale believes him.

Idia and Vale are a bit...awkward at first. Their first impression still kinda sticks out (meeting over trying to get a manga and p sure Idia wasn't the kindest there). But once they can make a connection on games and whatnot it's all smooth sailing from there. Sort of. Vale would be interested in this world's stories and they could go off about theirs too. Compare anime and video games. They listen to him go off and can keep up with his lingo (most of the time). Idia doesn't trust them at first, too kind and nice, but lmao he likes having someone who can keep up with him...

Haha tag team duo of Vale & Ortho trying to get Idia out of his room. tbh Vale is fine vibing in there with him but like...cat cafes, Idia!! video game/anime themed cafes!! That's probably how they manage to get him out at first.

Shroud bros are also the first to find out the link between Vale & Grim. It really comes out in ch.6. There's one note that shows something coming from Vale when Grim is active. It also doesn't help that Vale can pinpoint exactly which room Grim is in without the bros telling them. little things that give it away!

Diasmonia & Vale

Vale finding out Malleus is also part of the solo member of a club 🤝. Would find books on gargoyles just to show him tbh. Invites him to hang out for their club meeting even if he's not a member. He can be an unofficial one too!! They're down to be an unofficial member of his. Vale is pretty chill with Malleus. Even after learning who he is, they just vibe with him. Nothing changes. The only thing that does is Vale like holy moly dragon!!! They also know Malleus likes being outside and walking around at night but they always ask if he wants to come into Ramshackle too. He usually declines cuz he likes the 'magic' the night air brings when with them.

For the other three...I think Lilia just likes to jumpscare Vale lol. It's so easy and fun to spook them, so he has his fun messing with them. He might be like Ace and trick them into believing things but at the same time no?? It sounds like a trick but it's true so?? Just no one believes Lilia bcuz he's so cryptic.

Vale isn't around Silver and Sebek too often. Vale thinks Silver has a calming aura but they get worried when he falls asleep. They end up getting yelled at by Sebek too often. It doesn't help that they spend time with Malleus more than he does. They think his devotion to Malleus is neat though! They regret telling him that...

I wonder— if the potential Poptropica cartoon would be made and it's based on the books, how would Octavian's evil plot work with the islands in the game? His plot in the books revolves around the islands being from the real world.

The islands in the novels are completely different than in the game and comic strip, because they're only from the real world's timeline, as opposed to many very different timelines…

At the end of the story, Poptropica starts to change (although we don't get to see it). Octavian didn't discover that the Multiverse existed until the end.

The only way I can see Octavian's plot happening with the existence of the in-game islands from the get-go is if those islands were always there alongside the real world islands from the book...

Or if Octavian's plot was completely different from the books.

In the books, Octavian's plot started because he wasn't allowed to change the real world's timeline by saving Paulla from Pompeii. So ever since he got banished to Earth, he planned on finding his way back to Poptropica to save Paulla and also interfere with the other islands to change history and make everything perfect.

If the other timeline islands were there from the get-go, then that means that Octavian and the other Protectors would've had to infiltrate them and learn about their individual histories too. They would've grown up learning about them too.

So, would Octavian only feel entitled to change the history from the universe that Paulla is from? Or all of the other timelines too? That's a lot of work for him! But I can see him going for it.

In this alternate version of the story, Octavian and the other Protectors would've grown up believing each timeline is worth protecting (and in Octavian's case, "fixing").

So, in this alternate version of the story, Octavian would be going to every island, including the in-game ones, trying to perfect everything by…

Killing all of the other villains XD

We all know Octavian isn’t above killing (or at the very least, brutally injuring) people who he believes deserves it, or who gets in his way. He admitted it himself:

He was gonna beat the kids

I think this guy is dead

He threatened my boy Nils

These guys are dead

He threw these guys out of existence to kill Spencer Albright 

He tried to kill them in the lava

He most likely was gonna kill them after knocking them out

So, anyway… if his plan in the cartoon (featuring the in-game islands) were to be the same as in the books…

How would the Terrible Trio fit into all of this?

In the novels, Octavian was chasing the trio from island to island because they took his magic map, and he needed it to find certain islands to carry out his plan. (Why he didn’t steal a map from the other Protectors he ran into is anyone’s guess… *shrug*)

But if we were to assume that the maps are commonplace like how they are in the game, then Octavian would have no reason to chase them… he would just find another. But that’s only assuming the maps are commonplace and easy to get like in the game.

So my only guess is that instead of Octavian chasing the kids, the kids would chase him.

The trio know nothing about Poptropica, or how it works. Octavian brought them there. So they believe he’s the only one who could bring them back. So they follow him.

And… They stop Octavian from messing up the islands he goes to, while also solving the problems and defeating the villains from the game (and also stopping Octavian from killing more people).

Well, I can see that working :)

hehehe i don't have much of silver's impact chapter written yet so hopefully jet's will suffice...

Chaos rages for a few minutes, tentacles lashing and topping parts of buildings, lightning frying anything in the vicinity, and occasional beams of Chaos piercing through the city. Jet knows the story of Chaos, knows that he used the emeralds to destroy the Knuckles Clan, knows that it’s wrath has been festering for thousands of years… and that its end goal is to destroy the entire world.

Man, there’s so much he hasn’t done yet. This can’t be the end! He hasn’t found his father, he hasn’t found the Babylon Garden, he hasn’t collected all the Chaos emeralds, he hasn’t even raced Sonic yet! This can’t possibly be the end! He’s still got so much to do!

Speak of the devil, a few people at the front begin to cheer his name. Jet, Wave, and Storm peer at each other before squeezing their way to the front. There’s some sort of light coming from the other side of the building. Is that Sonic?

They shove anyone and anybody out of their way until they earned front row tickets to the light show below their feet. Sonic the Hedgehog stands in the middle of a flooded street, holding seven emeralds that appear clouded and dark. He’s surrounded by his friends who are currently cheering him on; many of them almost look like they’re praying, too.

Nobody knows what is going on, but many of the people here have decided to join in. Children shriek Sonic’s name, and others murmur it like a prayer. The strange trio of a chameleon, bee, and crocodile are all cheering as loudly as they can. The bat is muttering the name, softly, over and over again.

Storm joins in, probably just because he likes yelling. Wave watches Sonic with narrowed eyes, studying him as the lights begin to crescendo. Jet doesn’t cheer. But Jet does pray to any god that’s out there that Sonic is about to fix this mess.

There’s a blinding flash of light. Storm ducks his head, Wave turns around, and Jet holds up his hands to block the light. The crowd gasps, and there, in all his golden glory, floating above them like the angels his people once believed in, is Sonic the Hedgehog.

He’s seen footage of him before, gilded and gleaming, a glimmering pixel in amateur footage, often moving too fast for the eye to comprehend, for the camera to capture. There are few moments where he is close enough and still enough to truly see, where you can see the sparkling rubies of his eyes and the way his fur glimmers, but even then it does no justice to what Jet sees before him.

He glimmers brighter than any gold coin Jet’s stolen, gleaming more than any jewel, more brilliant that any piece of artwork, and more rapturing than any treasure. It’s indescribable, the sight before him, and it feels almost blasphemous to try. 

There is ancient power dripping off of him, might obvious from every sparkle of Chaos energy that ripples across his body. He peers down at all of them, eyes narrowed and sharp, gleaming like freshly gushing blood, fur glimmering brighter than the sun. Despite the ferocity of his appearance, despite the power emanating from every molecule, there’s a gentle smile curling his lips, and it manages to soften all of his sharp edges without entirely taking away the awesomeness of his appearance.

“Thanks a lot, guys!” The gold hedgehog shouts, his eyes focused on whoever is on the ground, before he glances at the people on the building. He gives them a one finger salute. “I’ll fix this mess! It’ll take just a sonic second!”

Then he shoots off, looking every bit like a falling star, a comet dancing across the sky, a golden trail glimmering behind him. Like a sunbeam peeking through the darkest hour, he gleams, he illuminates, he soars, slicing through the ink of the apocalypse.

Wave puts her hand under his jaw and snaps it back to meet his upper mouth. Jet shakes his head vehemently, before letting himself stare after the golden figure, now engaging in a battle with the great beast that’s destroyed an entire civilization. 

“Do you really think he’ll win?” Storm asks, voice softer than he’s heard in years.

Jet’s eyes narrow as Sonic dances, dodging attacks left and right, moving more fluidly than the creature made of water and energy. Sonic doesn’t attack back, simply dodges, ducks and weaves, slinking away and around the giant beast, occasionally striking when the moment is right.

Amsterdam (2022) Review

Kind of weird seeing Chris Rock in something after, well, you know. At least he’s not on a stage. Poor fella. 

Plot: In the 1930s, three friends witness a murder, are framed for it, and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history. The events are inspired by a 1933 political conspiracy in which wealthy American businessmen and bankers plotted a military coup d'état to overthrow President Franklin D. Roosevelt and replace him with a fascist veterans' organization headed by U.S. Marine Corps Major General.

More like AmsterDAMN look at this cast! Like literally everyone is in this movie. Here’s the roll call *deep breath* Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Chris Rock, Rami Malek, Anya Taylor-Joy, Andrea Riseborough, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Shannon, Mike Myers, Zoe Saldana, Timothy Olyphant, Robert de Niro and Taylor Swift (though the latter is in the film, dare I say, very swiftly). It’s a ridiculously stacked cast, and might as well point out the main positive of this movie - its the cast. Christian Bale is wonderfully quirky and provides one of the more likeable and innocent personas in his filmography. Rami Malek is as eloquent as always, Chris Rock throws around one-liners that really slapped (still too soon?), Mike Myers basically brings back his Inglorious Basterds character, Robert de Niro is smoothly cool... Everyone is great in this, no matter how major or small their roles are. And the movie itself is very muddled and messy, so the one thing that really engages the viewer here are all these actors evidently having a great time. Well I say that, however recently the allegations have resurfaced about director David O. Russell bullying his actors on set of his films, so maybe they aren’t having that great of a time, but their performances are solid sauce.

As for the movie itself, yep, its a mess. There’s like 20 different plot-lines and all the possible genres all mixed in one. It’s a whole lotta movie! From one point it tries to be a political commentary on the idea of history repeating itself, as here we had WW1 end, which was supposed to be the war to end all wars. And evidently that wasn’t the case, as history is repeated by those who forget it. Some deep stuff, however on the other side the movie is this slapstick over-the-top comedy with caricatured characters, then it’s also about friendship of the central trio, and then there’s the title of Amsterdam, which a reference to the one good place where the trio found true happiness. And how everyone in their hearts has a place like Amsterdam. And again brings us the the idea of history repeating itself, there are good parts and bad, war and peace and all that jazz. Oh, and then there is also a murder mystery too. And also the progression of medicine and painkillers. The movie just keeps jumping from tragedy to comedy to history to politics to satire to Chris Rock popping in for a one-liner to a little action....again, it’s a whole lotta movie. Does it all work? Nope, as the movie ends up being overly convoluted, especially in the way it mixes flashbacks with present day events, yet also the movie evidently thinks it’s cleverer than it actually is. Let’s take the murder mystery aspect. The reveal is pretty obvious, yet the movie evidently doesn’t think the audience is clever, as the end of the movie we spend a good 10 minutes just being walked through every single step as if we’re children, with every smallest detail explained, and I’m just there like “listen movie, I got it 30 minutes ago”. And overall as I said, the movie is over bloated with stuff, and as such it does drag with pacing issues and a lot of unnecessary mumbo-jumbo. 

That being said, I actually enjoyed Amsterdam for what it was. As I said the cast are all very game, and in fact the chances of you enjoying this movie is sorely reliable on if you like these actors or not. I for one do, so I enjoyed watching them get up to their debauchery and shenanigans. There’s also an easy vibe to the whole thing. For all the high political concepts its actually a pretty light watch, and weren’t it for the long run-time this movie would have zoomed by as swiftly as Taylor Swift’s appearance. Yep, don’t could on much from her here, she does get the brunt of the deal. But overall the movie is very forgettable. Enjoyable for what it is, some good moments are funny ones too, but not something I’ll remember in a week’s time.

when did you first learn of exo?

this is really cringy but i first saw exo in twenty-fourteen on a 'youtubers react to k-pop', they were reacting to "overdose" and i kid you not, i was so put off their styling i wanted nothing to do with it. i hated it (and i still bloody do)

and then, a little while later they put out a 'teens react to exo' and i hadn't connected they were the same group. anyways, i saw yixing with that blonde hair and my mind went "that one, i like that one"

so don't let anyone ever tell you a visual is a stupid position

(it was probably a lot to do with the fact the boy i really liked had the same hairstyle)

turns out, my friend at the time was vaguely into them (she was more into super junior & shinee) and we just clicked over that and the rest was history

who was / is your bias?

yixing was my first bias ever, and i vaguely remember bouncing around yixing + luhan but i think like a month in jongdae committed the cardinal sin of a bias wrecker and became the ult bias

don't ask me how, it might have been showtime? but yeah jongdae's been my ult since twenty-fifteen. oh god.

where you team exo-k / exo-m?

i was pretty openly exo-m, because yixing was my bias and would only exclusively listen to their versions of the b-sides, until "the war" and it's funny that jongdae became my bias because i really don't think it was his vocals that sold me on him because i was too busy thinking "i wish lay would get more lines"

now looking back, yeah jongdae (and yixing) were my bias individually but as a collective, i preferred exo-k (also, "candy" and "mirotic" were better than "sorry sorry" + "happiness")

favourite m/v?

"lotto". not my favourite song in the world but the aesthetics, the 'plot', jongdae in the white smashing up that table with a hammer? ugh, love it. jongdae and baekhyun's era.

i love a music video with a plot, i would love to see them do a "now" or "365 fresh" but i don't think my heart could take it lol

honourable mentions: monster & i love 'love shot' probably because its in the same vain as "lotto" if it were less plot, more vibes.

also chanyeol with no shirt and that black leather, ugh.

the music video isn't my favourite, but i love the 'alice in wonderland' aspect of "love me right"

favourite album?

i think it really depends on what day you ask me, also my favourite album isn't always the one i think its their best. i'm really enjoying the obsession album right now but the "love me right (exodus)" is exo's magnum opus and dare i say "lotto (ex'act)" is the best sequel since shrek two.

but i really didn't like "love shot (don't mess up my tempo)" and it killed me inside but i only liked two of the b-sides

not an unpopular "hot take" but i know folk get stick for it

i really dislike superm, like seriously. i really dislike sm's management of it. sm had a perfectly good group to go up against bts on a global stage and they screwed it up. they weren't rookies like most of nct, they weren't too "out there" like shinee and the less said about suju the better.

also, they're a 'global group' yet all their best songs are mostly korean.

but they squandered it, they prioritised the nct brand both with the group itself and superm and tacked exo + taemin into their daft group to make older fans give a shit and they took away exo's chance at their final ot8/9 comeback before enlistment.

also, whilst it was for the better, kris leaving exo really stilted their international growth as a unit and individuals, honestly just the china line generally as they are collectively a lot stronger in their english as opposed to the korean members

showtime, ladder or arcade?

overall, ladder but i love showtime, especially episode eleven. i think that's when i first thought "hey that really fucking loud guy is pretty cute"

How were you able to sound so sweetly collected? Maybe it was hearing his rehearsal moments before that eased you. In his surprise Ingo had almost forgotten the flowers. “Please accept this small favor! I asked the florist for a potted bouquet as you had mentioned your Floette! I wanted to be certain of a gift that would make you both happy!” He gently placed the small bouquet in your hands. “They’re lovely Ingo, thank you. Flowtte will be very happy to see these taken care of,” you breathed in the sweet scent and smiled up at the Subway Boss. His face flushed before continuing, there was growing excitement in his tone as he pushed through each word,” Did you disembark prematurely on your way to the venue this evening? If you would grant permission, I would be happy to see you to your destination!” “That’s a great idea!” “Emmet?” “I am Emmet,” said the other with a smile as he took a photo of his latte with a mound of foam in the shape of a Joltik. You covered you laugh with the back of your hand. Ingo was doubly confused. He looked beyond you towards his brother,”Emmet, how did you know I would be at this depot?” Emmet sipped at his latte almost burning his tongue and fanning his mouth gingerly, ”I arrived with y/n! They live up there!” He pointed with his free hand as he took another sip of his drink. Ingo looked at you and at your apartment window and back and forth again before you smiled,” This is great! I can run up and give these flowers a home, I’ll just be a minute!” And you were off before he could say a word. While in your apartment you snuck a peak at the two Subway Bosses on the sidewalk below. Passerbys waved at them and complimented their attire. Elesa would expect nothing less for her runway venue. Emmet must have caught a glimpse of his brother through the florist shop window upon your until arrival with the twin while you had your back to it. Did he know from the start that Ingo would be here? Was this a set up? Who knows! Emmet stood unassuming and licked the faint foam mustache from his upper lip. “Safety check, have we got everything?” You nodded with a relieved smile and stifled laugh. Ingo offered his arm to you, “Shall we make our departure?” Emmet hooked his arm around your free arm,”Everybody smile!” Ingo continued,” Take care not to come uncoupled from me!” You nodded up at him as he looked from you to the path ahead with the faint trace of a smile and a flush. Emmet smiled happily at the sight, “Check safety. Everything's ready! Aim for victory!” “ALL ABOAAAAARD!” Both twins shouted in unison. Somewhat startled patrons seated at the cafe looked out the shop window at the trio departing. It was comforting walking between the Subway Bosses in that moment. As softly as he could speak, Ingo leaned towards you and complimented you in a way only he could, “Miss y/n, your attire for tonight’s gala is pulchritudinous..!” You raised an eyebrow searching for the meaning before Emmet exclaimed with a smile,”He thinks you’re beautiful!” Ingo’s face was so flushed you swore steam would come out his ears with a whistle.

End Notes: I had a dream out of nowhere where there was this big party and I kept running back and forth unable to get ready or wear what needed to be worn. I really started to panic until Emmet showed up and held my hand. I wasn’t expecting that it was just so WEIRD. I have a history of being late because of difficulty with the passage of time and it causes a lot of anxiety. I’m either ridiculously early or running late. It’s also a reoccurring theme in my dreams, but this one was special because I didn’t expect my subconscious to include both Subway Bosses because I haven’t really been keeping up with the Submas fandom since July. So it was a big surprise to dream about them! I’m a lucid dreamer and this is the first time I’ve had a vivid dream with them as guest stars. I remember Emmet being reassuring in a way that only he can be when I was panicking on being late and messing up in my dream and wanted to share with everyone that he is very warm, understanding, and comforting! He was so patient and gentle and just really good company on that walk. Ingo was very sweet, he seemed worried about something, but that was before getting to talk to him- he is very genuine and earnest. At least that is what my subconscious thinks! I woke up content this morning and scribbled what I could remember. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this fluffy ficlet! Sweet dreams!
